Many people suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). It is an anxiety disorder in which a person has an obsessive and/or compulsive need to do certain things at specific times. A person with OCD may even spend hours at a time being repetitive and it can be almost impossible for them to stop themselves.

For instance, a person with OCD may feel the obsessive need to ramble on excessively about the same subject. They can be irrationally obsessed with religion, sex, or the need to have everything a certain way and could also have an irrational fear over such things as spiders, germs, water, elevators, etc... Sometimes talking to them about their obsession isn't enough and they will need to get professional help.

A person with OCD will sometimes try to make their obsessions go away by doing compulsive things. If they have an obsessive fear of germs, they may wash their hands over and over again or if they have a fear of spiders, they may check the bathroom a dozen times to make sure none are around before taking a shower. Similarly, if they have a fear of elevators, they will always take the stairs, no matter how many floors they have to walk up or down or they may check the stove repeatedly because of a fear of fire, or check to make sure the door is locked over and over again because of their fear of someone breaking in; the list goes on and on.

These compulsions aren't carried out to make them "feel good", but as a way to "fight" their obsession(s). By doing compulsive things, they may feel as if they're getting some sort of "relief" from their obsessions. Many times people will feel uncomfortable with their obsessions and doing the compulsive rituals may help them feel a bit better.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder can begin in childhood and persist through to middle age. Many people suffering from OCD do understand that it's all in their minds, and that they are being irrational but those who don't understand, have what is called OCD with poor insight. Some people with OCD manage not to let it bother them in everyday life, but some have trouble functioning in extreme cases and need professional help. They can also harm themselves physically by doing things such as hair pulling, nail biting or excessive scratching. Quite a few people with OCD can also end up with substance abuse problems.

No one knows for sure what causes Obsessive Compulsive Disorders but it does not seem to be hereditary. It can be triggered in many different ways in different people. Unfortunately OCD is under diagnosed and not everyone gets the treatment for OCD that they need. There are mental health professionals who know how to help people with OCD disorders and quite often people with OCD can also be given a prescription to anti-anxiety medicine that can help tremendously, even in bad cases.

If you believe that you may have some sort of OCD and it is interfering with your life, contact a mental health professional right away to learn about your options for getting help.<bio>Crack Is Not Impossible To QuitSwitching Addictions</bio>

Do you always wash your hand after shaking hands with someone? Do you at least change clothes at least 10 times before you leave for work? Do you go to the doctor for a check up once a week?

You'd better be careful if your answers to my above questions are YES.

Have you ever heard about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)? If you don't, read the details below.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental disease that triggers people to have unnecessary thoughts (obsessions) and to duplicate specific behaviors (compulsions) over and over again.

Please note that it is normal for people to have routines but if you overdo it, it can lead you to OCD.

Some researchers believe that OCD stems from behavior habits that you learn over time. Yet, no one has found a single, proven cause for OCD. Some studies show that it may have to do with chemicals in the brain that carry messages from one nerve cell to another.

There is also a chance for someone to develop OCD if he/she has parents or other family member with the disorder although researchers haven't identified it yet.

Another factor is stress. If you react or retain to stress very strongly, you might also have a chance to develop OCD or any other disorder.

However, it can be cured with the right treatments which are psychotherapy and medications.

Psychotherapy involves step by step exposure to the object that you feel afraid of or to your obsessions.

One of the medications taken by OCD patients is antidepressant which can help increase levels of serotonin.

Yet, both treatments should be followed by big supports from friends and family. Also, joining a support group to share experiences with other patients is also a very good way to be speedily cured. <bio>David W Richards is a happy father of two kids.
As the name suggests, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is the act of being obsessive towards little things in life. In many instances a person with such a condition may not even realizes that he/she is behaving in a compulsive manner. The condition is such that you tend to insist on repeating a certain act even though it does not bring about any result or change. This obsessive behavior may be passive or active depending on which stage it is.

Such behavior has characteristic traits, which are easily noticeable. For this reason most often people around a person with such a condition will be able to identify it. This sort of obsessive behavior may start when the person is young or even at a later stage. Their insistence to do something will have no logical reasoning whatsoever.

If OCD is left untreated it can create havoc in a person's life. In most cases such individuals will not find peace in anything. They just insist on continuing to do the same thing or repeat an act even after the desired result is achieved. A simple example would be they could continue to wipe their hands with a towel if their hands are completely dry. They tend to be very jittery and nervous about their whereabouts. Another noticeable trait is that they also tend to be fidgety. As such they may continue shifting their hands or shaking their feet. This becomes such an intricate part of their lives they don't really realize these idiosyncrasies. Yes medication is necessary but there's more ways that you can adopt to get the right benefit. This is a condition where mind and body are not able to coordinate. The signals sent out by the brain and the actions carried out by am OCD patient vary. It's essential that there be mind and body coordination as this will automatically eradicate obsessive acts, i.e., repetitive acts.

A contemporary treatment option is hypnosis. Treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with hypnosis and start noticing the difference. Hypnosis is intended to enable you to calm your nerves. This is in fact half the job done. If you are able to relax your nerves, you will no longer be so fidgety or restless. Hypnosis therapy can help you find that state of calm and remain in it. You can submerge yourself in the peace and tranquility of the moment where the physical is no longer so important and the metaphysical and mental come into being.

In regards to hypnosis you can now forget the appointments wit therapists and all that you'd have to do to make it for your session on time. So now, you can get on with your hypnosis session at a little more peace. Download your hypnosis speech and listen to it now. This will immediately begin its positive effect on you. When hypnosis becomes a part of your life, you will notice the difference for yourself. Hypnosis for OCD can help one calm down and have a control over the present. This guarantees that you will not break into bouts of obsessive behavior; instead you can control your situation and deal with it. <bio>For information on ocd treatment and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder check the link - http://www.richardmackenziedirect.com/OCD-Hypnosis.htm </bio>

Seven million people in the United States suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is a complex anxiety-based disorder which has two elements to it, obsessions and compulsions. Unfortunately for some, the symptoms experienced do not end there.

andquot;OCD is sometimes accompanied by depression, eating disorders, substance abuse disorder, a personality disorder, attention deficit disorder or another of the anxiety disorders,andquot; states the NIMH. andquot;Co-existing disorders can make OCD more difficult both to diagnose and to treat.andquot;

What exactly are obsessions and compulsions and how do they affect the sufferer? Obsessions are idea's or thoughts related to, or obsessed with, the excessive need for cleanliness or preventing contamination from some substance or another, which in the mind of the sufferer, at first seems rational. However, those that don't suffer the disease can clearly see the irrationality of their obsessions or fears. The fear that harm may come to themselves or their loved ones can lead them to perform repetitive actions such as ensuring that all the doors and windows in the home are securely shut, or that the iron is safely switched off, and such like. The sufferer is constantly striving for perfection and it is sometimes the fear of imperfection that drives their compulsive behaviour.thoughts are intrusive and distressing

Compulsions are tasks or rituals and their actions or behaviour mainly center around hand-washing, checking behaviour and counting actions performed. Sufferers are powerless to stop their compulsive behaviour even though they are consciously aware of the disorder and that it is controlling their behaviour. Compulsive symptoms often make it hard to diagnose OCD as compulsions alone are are not an indicator of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. hey are driven by fear that harm will come to them or loved ones if their compulsive behaviour does not satisfy their obsessive ideas. Because OCD is a anxiety-based disorder much of their compulsive behaviour is acted out in the desperate need to lower their anxiety which is very prevalent in OCD sufferers.

Unfortunately no clear cause that leads to a person developing OCD. There is however help for those that have OCD. Research points to a class of medication called serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SRIs) and selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) that can help to reduce the symptoms of OCD. Once taken, weaning the person off the medication as relapse often occurs when a patient suddenly stops taking their medication.

Behaviour therapy is very effective for treating OCD and works to help reduce the compulsive behaviour of the person. It is important to note that just because someone shows traits of perfectionism or fixation does not necessarily indicate a diagnosis of OCD. Symptoms would need to disrupt the daily life of the sufferer such as spending a number of hours each day involved in performing rituals or repetitive actions such as washing of hands.

A high level of anxiety is associated with compulsive rituals. Compulsions actions or rituals that are performed by the sufferer in an attempt to alleviate the obsessional thoughts of OCD which they often find intrusive or distressing. Often the link between the compulsive actions and the scenario or situation they are intending to prevent, or keep themselves or others safe from, does not make any sense and is not realistic, such as not stepping on cracks in the side-walk for fear of falling through them.

OCD does not affect the individual alone but also creates a large burden on those who live with an OCD sufferer. With the help of a psychiatrist or other mental health professional, OCD can be treated successfully. A treatment plan using drugs as well as behaviour therapy is often the most successful route to take. <bio>Janie Jonah http://www.perfectdrugrx.com (c) 2006, PerfectDrugRx.
Do you have a compulsive need to lie that you find hard to control? Do you wish you could control what you say a little better so that you don't have to tell lies? If you suffer from or know somebody that suffers from compulsive lying you will understand just how devastating it can be to the sufferer and the people around them. Compulsive liars often exclude themselves from certain situations because of their disorder and many people that suffer from it will often find themselves alienated from their communities and even their families because of this behaviour. If you suffer from the shattering disorder of compulsive lying then it is time that you took control and got it dealt with.

Over my career as a hypnotherapist I have helped many people with compulsive lying, both in my private clinic and with my hypnosis download products. I have seen first hand just how this behaviour can rip a family apart and cause no end of future problems for the sufferer. Compulsive lying can become a behaviour in many people for many reasons and over the span of my career I have heard many different reasons from many different people how they fell into the behaviour and then found it hard to get out=85 most actually started with tiny white lies which then unfortunately escalated into lies that would ultimately change their lives for the worst =96 and forever if the disorder stayed un-dealt with.

If you suffer from compulsive lying=85 what would it be like to not have the desire to lie? How much would life change and what bridges could be fixed by understanding your disorder and then getting rid of it? Just imagine taking control now and leaving compulsive lying and your life as a compulsive liar in the past so that you can move on and enjoy what life has to offer you!

Hypnosis works to reprogram the part of your brain that we refer to as your sub-conscious mind. The sub-conscious mind holds all of the beliefs, behaviours and habits that allow your compulsive lying to exist. The hypnosis works with your sub-conscious mind to get rid for the need to lie and helps you on many levels to control and stop this wayward habit.

If you really want to deal with you compulsive lying then I wish you the best of luck and success. I would suggest that you start with a hypnosis download or recording or even looking up your local hypnotherapist. <bio>Get help with compulsive lying now.
Pseudologia Fantastica or pathological lying is referred to compulsive lying in psychology. Compulsive lying is a situation where a person keeps on lying about facts with no reason or any motivation. The person in fact believes such lies to be the truth and often misunderstands the true facts or creates myths regarding the facts. All of their lies suit their convenience. A compulsive liar is person who always lies and has a quality of compulsive lying. A compulsive liar most of the time creates his or her stories in such a way that he/she may even do it with as certain amount of awareness that they are trying to impress others.

A Compulsive liar always misguides or misleads the people around him or her to increase their social value. A compulsive liar is said to have a serious mental disorder or problem, which is to be rectified. In most of the cases compulsive liar is aware of the fact that he or she in lying and know what are they doing. Compulsive is not recognized as a clinical disorder. During a legal case it becomes very difficult for the plaintiff to prove that he or she is lying. Compulsive liars can even convince themselves so much that even polygraph fails to detect that they are been lying. Even if the get caught for the first time they just avoid it by saying that they were afraid or they were joking. Everyone does lie one or the other time, compulsive liars tell lies as if it's a routine for him or her regardless of the situation. Lying is a habit of compulsive liar. Compulsive lying may start by the will of a person to become famous or fear that they are not interesting enough. A compulsive liar also wishes to be perfect in everything so to obtain perfection in the eyes of others a person may begin lying. They may do it for fun or as they are bored and for some excitement, they start compulsive lying. Compulsive lying just adds up tension for him or her as it is very difficult to keep track of what you have said to whom. When compulsive lying becomes a habit and you can do it easily, you may even forget that you are lying.

Compulsive can be worst when you are caught. For example you boast to your friends that you have won a certain competition several times and you are being awarded gold medal several times. You find a lot of people getting attracted towards you, but someone asks you why you don't play now? You start with another one that you were injured during the play and you can't play now. Well someone finds out that there was no such event held ever and the experience may be very shameful but a compulsive liar will not stop.

If you are suffering from compulsive lying than you have a very effective cure for you, which is hypnosis. Hypnosis helps you make yourself understand and control yourself from compulsive lying. If you feel that compulsive lying has become a problem for yourself and you want to put an end to it, go ahead and download a hypnosis compulsive lying mp3 or videos which will help to get rid of your condition and pave the way for a better life of truth and honesty with nothing to fear. <bio>For more information on compulsive liar and compulsive lying check the link - http://www.richardmackenziedirect.com/Stop-Compulsive-Lying-Hypnosis.htm </bio>

You receive your paycheck and you are too happy about it. You have planned to save every 6cms wide and 15cms long bill with the famous presidents posing with their wide smile. But instead you visit a shopping mall and decide to buy jeans. You do grab it, and as if that's not all, you see a sale banner at the shoe store and go ahead and grab that too. Now you have a pair of shoes and jeans, so you decide to get a shirt to wear as well. You keep on buying stuff though you have it all and you really don't need these things and obviously you end up with no money and your credit cards have reached the maximum limit. Well of course you may panic, but you may still continue spending.

My dear friend you are addicted to compulsive spending. This addiction is observed more in women then men. Women can spend their entire bank balance at a single store.

The reason for compulsive spending or shopping can be temporary depression, or even loneliness. If you think compulsive spending makes your life happy and makes you feel light, think again because it offers momentary pleasure but actually makes your life worse. After spending everything you have, you may be faced with an emergency and you will be left with no financial aid. To a large extent it affects your family, your work and your health, as you are constantly dealing with the pressure of how you are going to manage your expenses and pending bills and the list goes on. You may take an extra job to pay the bills as pending bills might hamper your credit scores but you still won't stop spending.

You might not be taking drugs nor are you an alcoholic and even if you're simply spending on clothes and shopping, this excessive spending is categorized as an addiction and you are a victim of compulsive spending disorder. A disorder that is totally destroying you much quicker than you would expect.

A compulsive spending disorder makes you buy things, which are even beyond your capacity or will and are not even needed by you. The compulsive spending disorder is a symptom, which indicates that a person is deeply disturbed. The best way to overcome the compulsive spending disorder is to recognize and acknowledge that there is a problem. If you realize that your compulsive spending is the reason for your problems then you may start avoiding it. You can always consult a therapist. You can overcome the compulsive spending disorder as this ever-addictive behavior can be treated. Just go ahead and see a therapist. With a little help you can overcome the disorder and live a life, which is priceless.

Why not try something different? During the later part of the last century. people the world over were experiencing the benefits of using Hypnosis to do things like stop smoking and lose weight. Since then the practice of Hypnotherapy has come a long was with many reaping its benefits to help them over come their compulsive spending disorder. <bio>For more on compulsive spending and compulsive spending disorder check out the link http://www.richardmackenziedirect.com/Compulsive-Spending-Hypnosis.htm </bio>

Almost every one you know has lied about something for various reasons. Lying is considered to be a way to cover the truth because of some kind of fear. It could be fear of getting hurt, being rejected, humiliated, judged and so many more. But when a person lies in an exaggerated manner and continues doing so for no reason, this person maybe suffering from a compulsive lying disorder.

Considered to be a mental disorder, compulsive lying can be traced to the person's constant need for attention. In most cases, the line separating reality and truth has become so distorted that the person no longer realizes that he is lying. If the person continues, friends and families will no longer believe him and the person's credibility is shattered. Remembering the story of the boy who cried wolf, a compulsive liar will be alienated and never trusted.

A person most at risk for compulsive lying is someone who is not comfortable with himself. Because of this, the person ends up creating stories and believing it himself. You will even be surprised at the consistencies of his lies. This only shows that compulsive lying is indeed a psychological disorder.

If you happen to know someone who has picked up the habit of compulsive lying, you should help this person by taking him to see a medical expert. Fortunately this disorder is treatable once the cause and risk factors are determined. As soon as the reasons have been established, doctors will recommend a treatment program.

One of the most effective ways to treat compulsive lying is through hypnotherapy. This method involves altering a person's subconscious and leaving suggestions that he should stop lying. Of course, this is done when a person is under the influence of hypnotism. When availing of this treatment, make sure that the person doing the hypnotherapy is qualified and have had several clinical experiences.

On the other hand, if you are the one suffering from compulsive lying, it would generally be difficult to self-diagnose. In fact, compulsive liars are known to deny it. You will not be able to notice symptoms although the people around you would certainly take notice and point them out to you. Before it gets worse, you can always see a hypnotherapist, who specializes in compulsive lying. Your doctor or counselor could help you unearth the real reasons why you lie and help you recover your credibility. <bio>More on compulsive lying at: http://compulsivelying.y54.com/ </bio>

Compulsive spending is a major problem that can be caused by any number of psychological issues. Though it might not seem like a big deal to most people, controlling spending is a major issue for others. When spending goes wild, folks can damage their bank accounts, their careers, and their relationships. Compulsive spending is just like any other compulsive disorder in that it takes control of a person. After a while, there is no chance to even make a good decision regarding your spending. You might need to seek help if this is you.

Have you ever been to a store and found that you couldn't keep from buying something? I am not talking about going to a store and buying something that you need. That's a normal action. When spending becomes a problem, people go to a store and buy a product just for the sake of spending. They can't go a day without some sort of compulsive spending. Why do people suffer from this problem? It can come from any number of problems that could be from the past.

If a person has gone through a past that was a little rough, they might be trying to make up for that. They could hide behind the excuse that they are simply trying to provide something that they never had earlier in life. While this is fine some of the time, holding onto that grudge from the past is not healthy. In addition, people might go on compulsive spending binges because they want to trick people into believing that they have their finances in order. These are problems that must be fixed quickly or the problem will continue.

Hypnosis can help with the problem of compulsive spending. People don't understand that hypnosis is actually a solution for many mentally related ailments. Though it won't heal cancer, hypnosis can help people deal with other issues. If all you know about hypnosis is what you have seen in the movies, then you need to do more research. Compulsive spending is one problem that hypnosis can effectively fix.

If you can't get past your spending problems, then consider using hypnosis as a solution for the problem. Though it is not as common a medical practice as it should be, hypnosis has been known to help with all sorts of problems. Get a solution today for your problems and find out if hypnosis is right for you. <bio>For more on compulsive spending and how to overcome your compulsive spending disorder, please visit Richard MacKenzie's website http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/shop/compulsive-spending-mp3.htm and http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/compulsive-spending.htm </bio>

All types of compulsive activity can become a problem if they aren't held in moderation. This goes for compulsive spending, as well. Compulsive spending is a problem that makes people spend pretty much every dollar in their wallet. People with a compulsive spending problem can often be found buying things that they don't even need. They see it and they buy it just because they can. If you don't get help for this problem, it can cause substantial damage to your life. Spending problems and money problems have been the ruin of quite a few relationships. Compulsive spending can ruin lives.

Compulsive spending could be the result of some sort of problem in a person's youth. Maybe they didn't have much money as a kid. Maybe they didn't get to buy things when they were young. It could be an addiction to clothes or another product. Whatever the case, it can cause damage to a person's life. People with compulsive spending disorder can spend more money than they have. They can hurt their future and the future of their loved ones because they blew every dollar in the bank.

If you feel like you can't control how much money you spend, then it is time to seek out some help. It's time to address those things which are causing your spending problems. One great way to do this is to go through hypnosis. Hypnosis is something that is a mystery to many people. They see hypnosis on the movies or in a magic show and they don't understand its purpose. Hypnosis is really a full attack of the subconscious. It is used to replace broken thinking with some more positive thoughts.

In my time reaching clients as a hypnotherapist, I have seen people come through with problems like compulsive spending. I have seen them come in with a problem that they felt was incurable. In short, hypnosis was their last resort. Then, they came and found help with hypnosis and their lives were changed forever. After hypnosis made them change their thinking, they no longer had money problems that put a riff in many of their relationships. I am confident that hypnosis can have a similar impact on your life. If you need a change in thinking in order to get over a problem with compulsive spending, then go ahead and get all of the information that you can find on hypnosis. You will be very glad that you did. <bio>For more on compulsive spending and how to overcome your compulsive spending disorder, please visit Richard MacKenzie's website http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/shop/compulsive-spending-mp3.htm and http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/compulsive-spending.htm </bio>

After yet another display of lining up toys or endlessly performing the same behavior over and over it's not unusual for parents to wonder if their child may have not one but two disorders - autism and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).

OCD is a neurological disorder that causes obsessive thoughts and behaviors and can greatly disrupt a person's life. There are two main elements to OCD, thoughts or obsessions and compulsions or behaviors.

The obsessions are experienced as thoughts, images or impulses and can be persistent. Whereas compulsions are repetitive behaviors that the sufferer feels compelled to carry out whether they want to or not. The performance of the repetitive behaviors is usually done to reduce distress or to stop a particular event.

It is common for people with an autism spectrum disorder to also display repetitive behaviors and have repetitive thoughts, comparable to those who suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is a condition that generally makes sufferers feel uncomfortable with their symptoms, and wish that they could get rid of them. On the other hand children with autism are usually unconcerned with their various obsessions or behaviors and may even see them as comforting, increasing the frequency during stressful situations as a calming mechanism.

There are two possible treatments for autism and OCD-like behaviors: behavioral therapy, and medication. Frequently, these two forms of therapy are prescribed together.

The most common kind of medication prescribed for treating OCD behaviors in autistic individuals are SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). SSRIs are antidepressant medications that have also shown to be helpful in reducing OCD behaviors. However, they can come with some serious side effects including an increased risk of suicide. Parents' whose children are on SSRIs should monitor behaviors closely and report anything out of the ordinary to a medical professional.

Behavioral therapy can be another way to reduce repetitive behaviors, however there is not one treatment that has been found to be consistently effective for all cases of autism. This is due to the fact that no two cases of autism are exactly the same.

Therefore, before a behavioral therapy is selected to deal with autism and OCD symptoms, an IQ test and/or functional cognitive level test will usually be administered. Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) works well for lower functioning children or younger children, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy can show good results for higher functioning, more verbal children with autism.

To ensure best results it is often recommended that behavioral treatments and medication be combined. The medication is usually prescribed to help the child become more open to the behavioral therapy. Since behavioral therapy can be challenging -- especially as most children don't see their OCD behaviors as undesirable -- medication can make the difference in encouraging children to be open to the suggested changes.

While autism and OCD can occur in the same individual, it is much more common for children with autism to simply display behaviors that are similar to those of OCD, but that are in fact a part of their autism symptoms and not a separate case of obsessive compulsive disorder. Nonetheless, it is believed that autism and OCD based repetitive thoughts and behaviors are quite similar in the early stages of development, but become dissimilar over time as they often serve different functions within the two disorders.

Dealing with autism and OCD at an early age should be prioritized to ensure that regular childhood and life experiences such as early education occurs more smoothly. The fewer obsessive-compulsive symptoms a child with autism has generally, the more positive their educational and life experiences will be.

If you believe your child is suffering from OCD contact your doctor to discuss diagnosis and treatment options.<bio>Grab your free copy of Rachel Evans' brand new Autism Newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you and your family find out about the different types of autism and whether repetitive behaviors mean your child has autism and OCD.</bio>

This article is a shortened excerpt from the book "Tiger by the Tail" available at http://Lulu.com

Tiger by the Tail is the story of my personal recovery from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This is not a scholarly work; it is a memoir. I have no credentials as a health care professional, nor am I a layperson who has done exhaustive research.

So much for what I am not--what I am, is a survivor of OCD--who has recovered. I wrote this book for others who would also be survivors and who would find the tools that they need to do so. It is also for those who love, wish to help, or live with someone who is afflicted with this disorder.

I had been a life long sufferer of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, although I, like so many others, was so clever at disguising it that I was never diagnosed. Were you to ask any of my oldest friends, they will remember my needing an extra forty five minutes to leave the house so that I could check every electrical outlet, lock, gas jet, faucet, etc.--several times. They will remember my having to go home to get things "I forgot," or practically pulling doorknobs off doors in order to be really really sure they were really really locked. However, they will not remember, because they never saw, a thousand and one things that I was able to conceal, as this disease is always far worse than anyone watching really knows.

Next, came a realization. I had a choice to make between life and death. That is the part that eludes many suffers. Through our rituals, we are trying to avoid "the worst" happening to us and our loved ones, but are blind to the fact that the worst has already happened. It is the awareness of this fact that holds the key to recovery. This realization provides much of the strength to face the fear. OCD is founded in fear, but not just in fear. This disease also contains a great deal of hope. The extremes to which we are willing to go show us how much hope we carry. It is however, completely misplaced. Once you realize that this is about choosing between life and death, you discover the strength to win and the proper purpose for all that hope.

Recovery from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder has four requirements.

1. Trust: Trust in one's self and trust in the universe.

2. Continuity of Consciousness: Awareness of the connection between one moment and the next moment.

3. Acceptance: That the worse thing that can happen--has already happened.

4. Self-honesty: To the extreme.

OCD is a term that, (in my opinion), combines two separate and very different problems.

Obsessive Thoughts are at the very core of the problems that plague the entire human race. In some people this habit, (for that is exactly what it is), reaches greater heights than it does for others and we call it Obsessive thinking. However, it is just a matter of degree. Everyone suffers from it. Yet, without it, we would not be able to survive in the world. As Jill Bolte Taylor puts it, "it is the price we pay for having language."

There is a new and very powerful body of work on this topic created by Eckhart Tolle, Thich Nhat Hahn and many other teachers and writers, still living and working. If you or your loved one suffers from the pain caused by "the voice in the head," you will find gold in the works of these people. They are available as books, audiobooks, lectures, interviews and many other venues. Find them. Listen to them.

My OCD problem was with Compulsions. I too, like everyone, suffer from Obsessive Thinking, but at the usual levels. Therefore, this work does not spend much time on Obsession.

Compulsive Behavior was my problem--it is the other side of the OCD coin and it is completely different in nature. I think that I understand why these two different issues are lumped together. There is a thought, or more accurately, a belief system at the root of Compulsive Behavior. It is a conscious or unconscious form a Magical Thinking, but it is not the same thing as normal or excessive Obsessive Thinking. Compulsions ruled my life and nearly ruined it. Now I am fully recovered. This book is about the thinking and the belief system that created MY Compulsive Behavior. However, I do not think that I am unique.

I first wrote this book around 1997. It was not until 2000 that I "cleaned it up" and attempted to get it published the first time. It is now June 2008--and many things have changed for me.

My recovery from OCD began in 1989. It was accidental at first. It was not until the following year that I first heard the term "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD." Nevertheless, when I did hear it, I recognized it as my problem instantly. At that time, I was in the thrall of Compulsive Rituals. A long-term relationship ended in divorce and I was beginning a new life. For some reason, it was my time to get it together. When I wrote "Tiger by The Tail" in 1997, I looked back almost ten years to the start of what led to the end of my compulsive days. Now, another ten years later, I look back at Tiger--in a very similar way.

Since I have changed so much, I considered rewriting this book to update it more to my current self, and the discoveries of my last ten years. However, I soon realized that it was impossible to do so. I am not the person that wrote this book any more. I do not feel that pain. OCD and its rituals are so far behind me that I can actually smile at them in my memories. I am no longer qualified to write it, or to rewrite it. This is a sincere and brutally honest work describing a serious problem--that is old news to the person that I am now. A rewrite would take away the power of its words--born from pain and the joy of recent release. Yet, I admit to some editing to make things more clear.

For me, now, life is about learning to be present. In this regard, I am always working on the human problem of Obsessive Thinking and yes, keeping a sharp eye out for any effort that my conditioned mind may make to begin new Compulsive Rituals. But that part is no longer an issue for me; I have won that battle--completely.<bio>B.
It is not uncommon to experience difficulties with sleeping every once in a while; but, it is only when the problem persists for a considerable period of time that it may be considered to be a sleep disorder.

When it is caused by anxiety, the problem may not be quite so simple to cure as you might have expected because anxiety sleep disorder can range from mild to very severe which can keep you from getting any sleep at all. Among the different kinds of anxiety sleep disorder, you will find one that is especially nerve wrecking and that is when you get panic disorders.

Panic Disorders

Panic disorder is a severe instance of anxiety in which the sufferer will feel that something terrible is going to happen and it is also something that can strike without giving any warning. Also, the condition is particularly devastating at night when it may even require the sufferer to be hospitalized because of its intensity, and it is in such situations, really an extreme case of anxiety sleep disorder.

Another type of anxiety sleep disorder that a person can suffer from is the one that is called post traumatic stress syndrome in which a person will feel very anxious after having had a traumatic event such as an accident, rape or even terrorist acts. Such events come to haunt the person especially in the nighttime when the person becomes most fearful and will thus have difficulty in getting any sleep.

There is also another type of anxiety sleep disorder which is the one known as obsessive-compulsive disorder in which the sufferer is obsessed with thinking about rituals that are quite uncontrollable and which persist even though the person knows that these thoughts are quite senseless. It is an instance of anxiety sleep disorder which can be attributed to feeling fear and thus a person will not get to sleep because he or she is in dread of experiencing nightmares, while it can even be due to depression turning into anxiety much as can other mental disorders.

To be able to deal with an anxiety sleep disorder, one may need to take certain steps including practicing good sleep hygiene and even attempting self hypnosis. While a hot bath before turning in for the night is also recommended though it should not be a shower that can prove to be a bit too stimulating and which could thus keep you from falling asleep. Another option available to anyone suffering from anxiety sleep disorder is to listen to soothing music while in bed and even meditation and some yoga movements can help in treating the problem. http://www.about-sleep-disorder.com/ <bio>http://www.about-sleep-disorder.com/ </bio>

Fluoxetine hydrochloride is an antidepressant drug used medically in the treatment of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia nervosa, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and panic disorder.

Fluoxetine is also used to treat many other conditions, such as ADHD. It is sold under the brand names Prozac®, Symbyax®, Sarafem®, FLUX®, Fontex®, Foxetin®, Ladose®, Fluctin®, Prodep®, Fludac®, Oxetin and Lovan®. Fluoxetine was derived from diphenhydramine, an antihistamine found to inhibit reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin.

Compared to other popular selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), fluoxetine has a strong energizing effect. This makes fluoxetine highly effective in treatment of clinical depression cases where symptoms like depressed mood and lack of energy prevail. Although stimulating, it is also approved for a variety of anxiety disorders, including panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Prozac was approved by the FDA on December 29, 1987 and introduced in the US at the beginning of 1988. The drug became very popular, with millions around the world having taken the medication. In the fall of 2001, Eli Lilly lost a patent dispute with Barr Laboratories and now fluoxetine hydrochloride is manufactured by many companies. Prozac's popularity and selling success has been aided greatly by Lilly's extensive marketing campaign for the drug, considered one of the most successful in the history of American pharmaceuticals.

Fluoxetine hydrochloride is approved in the United States to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia nervosa, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and panic disorder. In the United Kingdom, it is approved to treat depression with or without anxiety, bulimia nervosa, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

In December 2003 the FDA approved Symbyax® to treat bipolar depression. Symbyax is a combination of fluoxetine and olanzapine. (However, the pure form of fluoxetine can cause mania, mixed-states, rapid cycling and psychosis in bipolar patients, particularly if the patient is not also taking a mood stabilizer.)

Common adverse effects include anxiety, which is possibly associated with an interaction of fluoxetine with the pineal gland, in addition to restlessness and insomnia. Weight loss, trembling, weakness, skin rash, anorgasmia, itching, and a decrease in sexual drive, have also been reported. Finally it has been reported to cause subsequent weight gain.

Like other SSRIs, an overdose of fluoxetine or combining it with other antidepressants can lead to serotonin syndrome.

Fluoxetine is eliminated very slowly by the body. The half-life of fluoxetine after a single dose is two days and, after multiple dosing, four days. The liver then metabolizes fluoxetine into norfluoxetine, a desmethyl metabolite, which is also a serotonin reuptake inhibitor; norfluoxetine has an even longer half-life, i.e. 8.6 and 9.3 days for single and repeated dosage respectively. These long half-lives may be helpful in those patients with compliance issues, but fluoxetine is most effective when taken daily. Other SSRIs have, by comparison, a very short half-life.

Some professionals feel that it is fluoxetine's long half-life that gives it much of its therapeutic utility, however this has never been proven under rigorous scientific study. Nevertheless, its long half life is also relevant because suddenly discontinuing SSRIs is known to produce both somatic and psychological withdrawal symptoms, a phenomenon known as "SSRI discontinuation syndrome". It is generally accepted that fluoxetines withdrawal symptoms are much smoother than with other SSRIs, as the substance takes several days to completely leave the system. Fluoxetine is a potent CYP2D6 inhibitor, which can decrease metabolism of other medications.

Disclaimer - The information presented here should not be interpreted as medical advice.
Spending a lot of money on shopping is not some thing new as manufacturers try coming up with new products every now and then. Getting attracted towards such products is quite normal, but when a product is nothing to you and you tend to waste the precious dollars earned by you on shopping for things that are of no use to you, there seems to be a problem. Many a time people come across the new gadgets that have come up in the market. In order to buy such high-tech products people tend to spend more than even what they have, at the end what they have is nothing more than the stupid gadget that is of no use for you and of course a credit card bill that you are supposed to pay for.

Compulsive spending is commonly seen in today's youth, where they tend to spend money on shopping, the frequent visits to a shopping complex does not mean that a person is crazy about shopping, at times many tend to buy products that are of least use. Spending heaps of money will surely ruin a person's future making it a nightmare for him. He/she would remember those days when compulsive spending drained the best out of him/her. Such a situation might create an alarming scenario with your loved ones as you might be ruining your as well as your loved ones future. In order to avoid such scenarios try overcoming this compulsive spending disorder by getting proper treatment for this.

May be you are aware of the compulsive spending habit of yours and try avoid spending money, but this so called temporary motivation doesn't work for more than days or a weeks time, and the next time you pass by a store you think of just checking out the latest collections, and lo you find yourself spending your money again. Treating it requires help from something that has achieved success in past. One such highly satisfying treatment is hypnosis. A hypnosis treatment directly interacts with your upset mind that is always thinking of spending those precious dollars. However you yourself can do the hypnosis treatment by downloading mp3 contents from the Internet that can help you deal with compulsive spending.

Hypnosis is a kind of treatment that is related to every mental issue and suffices as an efficient means of treating your mental blocks regarding the habit of compulsive money expenditure. Mp3 downloads can help you with the cure for your compulsive spending disorder. Start using it before you have nothing left in your bank account. Maybe if you have already come across this treatment you would be thinking why you wasted all the time and money in the past, where you could have saved even more money. Mp3 downloads come to you, as a beneficial treatment that is a great investment where you can use it repeatedly. The hypnosis for compulsive spending puts your life in perspective where you begin to understand the worthlessness of your buying habits. It helps you see the pointlessness related to your compulsive behavior and enables you to control your spending binge. <bio>For more information on compulsive spending and compulsive spending disorder check the link - http://www.richardmackenziedirect.com/Compulsive-Spending-Hypnosis.htm </bio>

Lying is common to people. Fear from a reprimand is the usual reason why people lie. But this cannot be referred to as compulsive lying. If a person lies because of a constant perceived punishment, it becomes compulsive lying. Lying with the belief that it is the truth despite being confronted with the truth is what normally characterizes compulsive lying.

Reasons why people lie on impulse are usually due to habitual lying. Some may lie because they see that other people do it and still get away from it. Lying becomes a normal thing to do that it comes out impulsively in some instance. While some believe that lying would help them get what they want. When lying becomes a habit, it is now referred to as compulsive lying.

Although it is a fact that children lie, compulsive lying, though, must be concerned about. This ultimately results in suspicious and doubtful parents while children become more uncontrollable and dishonest. Once compulsive lying and mistrust starts, stopping it would be near impossible.

It should also be considered that lying may be a sign of a graver problem. Compulsive lying is prevalent among children who have problems with social behaviors such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Mood Disorder (presence of manic or severe depression manifested in intermittent episodes). Such children also exhibit impulsivity which makes them prone to lying.

Compulsive lying typically comes with other behavioral problem like theft, deceit, violence, bad temper, miss classes, persistently losing things, and poor manners in social settings Problems like impulsivity, an obvious failure to connect consequences with actions, distraction and uneasiness in social circumstances may be at the heart of lying.

Initiating a process of viewing why a child lies, and finding the aid needed in stopping the compulsive lying. To help stop compulsive lying the intervention of an experienced therapist who can work with children is advised. Such therapist would be able to give parents particular parenting way and a profound comprehension of the dilemma they face. The child will also be granted, and be associated with medical professionals giving the needed assistance.

Punishment may also work in minimizing compulsive lying because it is intended to diminish a learned conduct. However, punishment does not teach and strengthen an alternate manner. Punishment devoid of love and careful explanation is an ineffective means, and most often lead to injustice and exploitation. <bio>More on compulsive lying at: http://compulsivelying.y54.com/ </bio>

Compulsive lying is something that can tear apart your relationships and life if you suffer from it. It is also something that seems impossible to get out of as each and every lie continues to build a story of deception that can seem to keep you imprisoned and unable to find a resolve. Whatever reason that triggered your compulsive lying the fact is that if you have suffered at its hands for a while that it would have become a habit for you. You probably catch yourself just after doing it and feeling disappointed in this seemingly uncontrollable disorder. What would you be prepared to do to have your compulsive lying behind you? Imagine it being in the past so that it can not bother you again.

Do you find it hard to keep up with the lies that you tell? Do they just seem to pop out and then leave you feeling regretful? Does it just seem like an ugly habit that has just got out of control? Would you like to just put it in the past and move on in life? If not then this article is not for you and you can stop reading, however if you are serious about getting your compulsive lying sorted, then read on!

In my clinic and through my download program I use hypnosis and self hypnosis to help my clients get the results that they want and need by putting their compulsive need to lie in the past so that they can move on. This massively successful approach works because it deals with that part of your brain that causes you this habit of lying. The area that I am referring to is called your sub-conscious mind and it is this section of your brain that holds all of your beliefs, behaviours and habits so it makes it the best place to start.

How great would it be to start taking control of this habit today? Just imagine life in a year's time without the worry of having to analyze everything that you say in case you incriminate yourself with friends and family. Just imagine moving on from this today and how great that will feel.

Hypnosis works to reprogram your sub-conscious mind and gets you the results that you both want and need =96 after all =96 results are all that matters when you want to get rid of a habit like compulsive lying.

If you are serious about dealing with your compulsive lying then I recommend that you try a hypnosis download or recording.

If you are smart enough to take my advice then I wish you the best of luck and success. <bio>Are you a compulsive liar?
The subconscious is a dark and mysterious place. It can manifest itself in many forms. In the case of sleep and anxiety disorders, the subconscious may obsess to the point where the person experiences dreams and nightmares regularly. This may lead to sleep disorders which are often the result of psychological reasons such as anxiety, obsessions and compulsions. Excessive thinking about one of more subjects can seed the subconscious. The subconscious then interferes with the sleep process. Sleep and anxiety disorders are often brought on by the subconscious.

Depression, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorders are four things that commonly lead to anxiety. With anxiety, people will frequently suffer from sleep disorders. Sleep and anxiety disorders are often closely related and one can lead to the other. Traumatic experiences or panic attacks can lead to anxiety attacks. The anxiety attacks can be also be brought on by worrying or thinking too much about the problems in your life.

Treatment of Sleep and Anxiety Disorders

To get rid of sleep and anxiety disorders, it is best to try and curtail your worries. Don't dwell too much on your problems. I know that is tough to do but with practice and a bedtime ritual that puts you at ease and relaxes you before you go to sleep; you can minimize the sleep and anxiety disorders during the night. There are remedies including professional help for panic disorders. Panic disorders are common at night and include waking up with a pounding heart, sense of panic, cold sweats and disorientation.

Do you feel like you have been violated? You have no control of things. These are often the result of traumatic events such as a death of a person you are close with, or violent acts against yourself or someone you love. There are many situations that may be classified as trauma. You can overcome these with some professional help. You can help the psychological process by coming to grip with the situation. You have to come to terms with what happened and get your life back under control. If you can do this, then you are well on your way too minimizing or even curing your sleep and anxiety disorder.

Another common impediment to having a good night sleep is obsessive-compulsive disorder. OCD can be manifested by a number of things. Something is wrong with the bed or room. Someone is watching as you sleep. Real or imagined, these things will affect your sleep patterns. Compulsions such as hiding under the blankets, counting tiles on the ceiling or anything that takes up all your thoughts or being too aware of your surroundings are all indicative of OCD. Sleep and anxiety disorders are frequently by-products of OCD.

Too get a good night's sleep you must clear your head. Work and personal problems must be dealt with or discarded in your mind before you will sleep restfully. Sleep can also be promoted by aromatherapy and massage. A lot of sleep and anxiety disorders can be negated with a regimented routine before retiring for the night. <bio>http://www.yoursleepdisorders.com </bio>

Compulsive spending is something that people suffer from and they don't really know why. Though many people would laugh at the idea that spending could be a problem, there are many others who have real problems with their spending. When they go into a store, they have to spend every dollar in their pocket. It doesn't matter if they have one dollar or one million dollars. They have it, so they are going to spend it. In those cases, these people can ruin their relationships and drain their bank accounts. They can hurt their future and the future of those people who are around them.

Compulsive spending is a problem that is born out of other problems within a person's life. Sometimes, people go on compulsive spending binges because they are unhappy with who they are. They want to make people believe that they are something different. They want people to think that money is no problem when in reality; it might be a huge problem. Other folks use compulsive spending as a way to correct some of the things of their past. They want to make up for the fact that their parents couldn't provide the finer things in life.

If you are one of those people who can't save any money because it is constantly being spent, then you need to try to make a change in your thinking. You probably don't want to spend this money and it's likely that you even feel a good bit of buyer's remorse after a big purchase. You won't stop spending, though, unless some outside help is found. That outside help can often be found in the form of hypnosis. Hypnosis can go to work on your subconscious thoughts. Subconscious thoughts are the things that power your actions. If you can learn to harness those thoughts through hypnosis, you can fix compulsive problems and a bunch of other things.

I have treated people for lots of different conditions. I have helped people stop smoking and stop gambling by using hypnosis techniques. Hypnosis is something that many people are unaware of. They have preconceived notions about what hypnosis might be. If you have problems with compulsive spending, then hypnosis could something that helps you get over it. It is important that people with all sorts of problems explore all of their options. An adult with social phobia, likewise, is terrified at the thought of speaking out at work or at work meetings. People suffering from social phobia always prefer to work by themselves.

Thankfully, there is help available for all types of anxiety disorders and they happen to be some of the easiest mental disorders to treat.
