The other day I got a call from my niece whose ecstatic voice over the wire made me eager for some hearty bit of news. "Uncle", she said, "At last I have conceived after all these seven years of marriage and you must come to my baby shower". It was a great relief for all of us since she had visited most of the doctors in town and none of them could assure her of bearing a child.

However, as I was very close to her right from her childhood days and she considered me to be her 'most nearest relation', I literally organized a search for some exclusive baby gifts for the baby shower. I was sure that both my niece and her husband must have bought all the gifts that were available locally, so my gifts must have some novelty and freshness about them.

But the local department stores and the shopping malls turned out to be most disappointing as they were full of age-old gift items that neither appealed to me nor my wife, who refused to have anything to do with them. On further enquiries at a different shopping arcade it was revealed that down another floor one section dealt with newborn baby gift items and we rushed there.

The sales person was a young girl and she was enthusiastic about some personalized products that came with the baby's name embroidered on it. There were various kind of bibs brightly embroidered with the baby's name; soft woolen baby blankets that not only had the names but date of birth, weight and dimensions at birth, etc. In short, we liked the innovative idea but were disenchanted since the shower was arranged prior to the child- birth and, therefore, no names could be provided instantly.

But as dark clouds do have silver linings on the western sky, we 'discovered' a small store that specialized in baby gifts that suited our purpose. Here they offered similar personalized items like the baby's name engraved on the gifts with a big difference. They had the seamstress on the premises that could do the engraving in about a day at a nominal charge, to be paid in advance.

This was quite satisfactory as the store provided a call card bearing the name of the shop, postal address and telephone number to be filled in by the purchaser or anyone else on his or her behalf. A telephonic communication, they assured us, would be enough to do the job. Happy at being able to locate the right place, we bought several of the special baby gifts that included a baby blanket that could have the baby's personal information embroidered on it, a sparkling photo frame that had room to engrave the baby's name and a niche to frame the birth certificate.

I was sure when we got back home that both my niece and her husband would admire the novelty of our gifts and my niece could phone the shop as soon as the naming was over. <bio>For more information about gifts for babies, and others please visit our website at http://www.giftsforeachoccasion.com </bio>

It's adopt a pet day at your local pet store and you just can't resist running down there to see if there's any cute and adorable pet that you can get for your niece. When you get there however, you find the place is so crowded that you can barely stick a finger inside let alone get inside to find the right pet for your little niece. You stare in frustration at the teeming mass of mama's and papa's with their little boys and girls looking eagerly to adopt a pet of their own.

Who would have thought that so many people would be pet-less and want to adopt a pet on today of all days. Granted it was adopt a pet day but this is bordering on the positively ridiculous. There's a good chance that the pet store had never had so many customers in the few years since it had opened. Fits and starts of excited yapping intermingled with delighted little cries of joy were ringing through the air at regular intervals.

Two hours later and you can just about stick a finger in there. A little better but not by much, however you feel your hopes start to rise. You hadn't found anything else that might constitute as a suitable replacement to your adopt a pet idea, and if the crowds were thinning then there was a good chance that you would be able find the right pet for your niece.

You find a nice little bench in front of the pet store and sit down to bide your time. As you sit there you watch in growing amazement at the sheer number of people who had come down to the pet store today to adopt a pet. It's all well and good for the pets themselves but would there be any little pet left for you to adopt?

Finally you manage to wind your way through the length of the pet store and find yourself confronted by the cutest pair of eyes staring out at you from within its confinements. It's still a puppy certainly, and it is cute, but whether you could call it small was slightly beyond you. You wanted to adopt a pet but this might be ridiculous.

However you can't shake the sight of those beseeching eyes and find yourself with an armload of Saint Bernard, a bowl, leash, collar, and any other accoutrements that you deemed necessary to keep the wiggling little beast happy. Adopt a pet day at the pet store was a success, and your "adopt a pet" idea for your niece's birthday was also a great success. Now if only your sister thought so too when she caught sight of the overgrown puppy in your hands! <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pet_care/natural_pet_care_index.html </bio>

Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you a little something about a topic very near and dear to my heart. That topic is ballet shoes. These are shoes that you wear when you dance ballet. They're vital to the art of ballet dancing, because without shoes it would hardly be an art at all, just moving around on a floor and kicking your legs into the air. But thanks to the presence of ballet shoes, the form is elevated into the rarified place it currently holds in the contemporary artistic and cultural world.

I once had to purchase a pair of ballet shoes for my niece, who was desperate to become a ballerina after watching a movie in which a ballerina (wearing ballet shoes, of course) danced in front of a king and queen and was selected to become a princess. Everyone in my family decided to purchase for the young girl a different piece of the ballet ensemble, and I was tasked with the purchase of the ballet shoes, so that she would be able to dance and pay proper respect to the medium as an art form.

It was during this process that I learned a great deal about the construction and traditions surrounding ballet shoes, and this information is so fascinating to me that I feel compelled now to convey it to you. Did you know that men wear white ballet shoes, and women wear pink ballet shoes? It's true, and it is a custom that dates back to the earliest days of ballet, perhaps even to the time in which that young ballerina performed in front of the king and queen to become a princess, and so inspired my young niece to attempt to become a dancer herself. Yes, women wear pink ballet shoes and men wear white, except sometimes they both wear tan shoes, which makes it look like they're wearing no ballet shoes at all. But they are, so it remains art.

This is not the only interesting fact about ballet shoes that I am excited to be sharing with you now. In addition to the color, the material with which the ballet shoes are constructed can vary, but not according to gender - rather, ballet shoes vary in material based on how expensive the shoes are. Some are made of leather and some are made of canvas, but the most important thing about a good pair of ballet shoes is that the sole remains thin and flexible, because people have to dance in them, and it's really hard to dance properly in shoes that don't have a thin and flexible sole. This is why the soles of ballet shoes are thin and flexible.

Now that you've learned a bit more about ballet shoes, I hope that you understand why this is a subject that is so important to me personally. In case you were wondering, my niece did not stick with ballet and is not a ballerina anymore, although it is not because the ballet shoes I bought for her weren't good enough. She eventually outgrew them, however, and she was not all that graceful anyway.<bio>For further information regarding our range of ballet shoes, please visit our website at http://www.dancedirect.com.</bio>

I own a junk yard and a mechanic shop, and it has at all times been to my advantage to find as many uses for used car parts as possible. Even though both are profitable businesses, there is substantial overhead, so the smaller amount of stuff I have actually store or throw away, the better that it is for me and my business. Of late, I have discovered a novel idea. Not that I thought of it, actually came from my crafty niece.

She always had the talent to make quite a cottage industry out of bags from torn blue jeans, or interesting bracelets out of scraps of things she finds around -- that kind of stuff. So it was hardly that surprising when she created a license plate purse out of a custom license plate from some old Corvette. It wasn't until then I had realized what a great idea license plate purses would make.

So that's how it all started, I went into business with my niece. Each morning, the two of us would meet up and make a license plate purse or two. Recently she has also figured out how to make other kinds of license plate hand bags, some of them made out of several plates carefully folded over together to create a seamless whole.

Though I am aware that I won't make much of any money doing this -- right now we put them up for sale for about thirty bucks per license plate purse, and that too we make only a couple a day -- but for her the money from the sales are great, and sure she gets to keep what she makes. For me, it's just a good excuse for us to spend time together. If I get to make a neat looking license plate purse or two while doing it, so much the better. Her license plate purses are a hit among her friends. In fact it seems like every other license plate purse that she makes is actually a present for a friend.

Ever since we started to work on the whole license plate purse thing, she has taken an interest into what I do, too. At first, she was not so in to cars, but she has always liked working with her hands, so I assumed that she would be a natural. Sure turns out that I was right. The fact is she is every bit as good with a muffler as with a license plate purse. Shortly I'll start to show her the inside of an engine, and then we will be down to business. Undoubtedly this license plate purse thing has been the source of great things in my life. <bio>Glen B.
There are as many genres of books as there are readers. Life To The Max is hardly a children's book, yet there are aspects of it that I thought might appeal to the younger reader.

With that in mind, I decided to experiment. I have a niece, Maggie Coulon, she is only 9 years old, but she is smarter than many adults. I asked Maggie to read the book, and here is what she had to say:

What I Think by Maggie Coulon

I think that Life To The Max was a terrific book, but I also think it was sad. The dog was very sweet compared to what the story said, it did not deserve to die. Some people might really like this book or some will think otherwise. I think what was sad is that the dog had a disease, but even more sad Bernie and Max died.

Mom and dad were really sweet to the dogs, even Amber. They didn't care how much the vet cost, plus they got him from a center twice! And if I was an owner I would want to be like them.

About halfway through the book Maggie looked at me and asked, "I wonder who really wrote this book because I know it wasn't the dog."

Did Maggie get it right? She is only 9 years old. Maggie does not know what a maxim is. But she certainly knows good from bad.

Robin Reynolds clearly understands the difference between right and wrong. Life To The Max is one of those books that you pick up, you read, and most importantly you think about it. I give Robin high praise for having the guts, grit and sheer determination to put this book together. Dogs maybe labeled as man's best friend, yet often times they are thrown to the garbage when times get tough.

Life To The Max is a delightful, but maybe too short celebration of our canine friends. My niece may not understand what the word maxim means, she may not understand complex concepts (I'll bet a buck she does), but she does however understand good from bad. It was interesting to get Maggie's input. She is not as worldly wise as us older folks are, yet maybe she brings something to the table that we do not have? I am old and jaded, my views are set in stone.

Author Robin Reynolds has done a fine job with this book, she has had a long and industrious career writing, but I do believe this is her first foray into this kind of book and a very fine job she has done.

Life To The Max should appeal to kids of all ages, I am 52 and I liked it!

You can get your own copy from Amazon, well you can't have mine, I promised Maggie she could have it!<bio>Simon Barrett is an adult educator in Calgary, Alberta.
Wow! When I looked into airboat tours with Cypress Airboats I had no idea what a ride of a lifetime I was going to have. I'm a freelance photographer and have always been interested in wetlands and the wildlife in the Florida everglades. Yet, I'd kept myself to what I considered safer pursuits after hearing horror stories about photographers and journalists going into the everglades and getting severely hurt, so I was afraid to try it until now.

However, my friends mentioned the great experience they'd had on a Cypress Airboats private tour, so I went for it, but insisted my friend accompany me. I never expected it to be so enriching and couldn't thank her enough for recommending it to me. The private airboat tour far exceeded any expectations I had. From the pleasant staff that was ready and willing to answer all my questions to the ride itself, I had no problems and my hesitations disappeared within minutes of the trip as I began photographing the gorgeous birds, plant life and beautiful scenery.

As a photographer, light is important and I was able to schedule my private tour so that I could capture some sunset imagery. I think the best shot I took was one of an American alligator resting on a log that was mere feet from the open airboat. I was so absorbed in the photo opportunities that I forget all my fears about being immersed in the Florida Everglades.

The pace of the tour was slow enough that I could get good quality shots, and being that I had a private tour, the staff at Cypress Airboats was willing to take that extra time so I could get my best photographic opportunities. I felt like I was on another planet, intimately immersed in the Everglades and all it's lush life. It almost seemed unreal when the tour came to an end and I was back in the rush and bustle of daily living.

As I live in the Miami area, we took our tour through the South Cypress location. Thanks to my friend's previous experience, we chose the Gold Package that allowed me three hours of photographic wonder in the Florida Everglades. The trip was so rewarding to me that I am thinking of taking my niece, who's six, on a Bronze Package tour for just one hour the next time I am up visiting her in West Palm Beach. I'm certain I will have a great time photographing my niece as she views the wonders of the Florida Everglades up close and personal. I can't think of a better gift to give her, and I'm sure the staff at the North Cypress location will be just as helpful as they were when I took my tour at South Cypress Airboats. <bio>Cypress Airboat Rides have been providing visitors to Florida with one of the most exciting adventures they can ever take. With both private and package http://www.cypressairboats.com, you will find the experience you are looking for. Open year round. </bio>

I am a huge proponent of online shopping because there are so many more benefits than physically visiting a mall or outlet store. From large discounts for shopping online to free shipping, the internet offers a lot of advantages that can be found all in the comfort of your own home. As a large fan of online shopping, I have converted all the shopping that I can into online purchasing, especially my clothing needs. If there is a rare item that you need to find, or you cannot leave the house due to illness, the internet is especially handy when it comes to these certain instances. However, even if there are no circumstances such as these, the internet cannot be ignored as one of the premier resources for online shopping for clothes.

With the internet, you have the ability to compare items from different brand names side by side which can help you make a decision as to what to purchase. Another large advantage of shopping online is the selection that is offered which is considerable larger than individual stores stock of clothing. This allows for extended shopping within each brand name and comparison between items you may not have known were offered by those companies. The larger selection also helps you add depth to your wardrobe by allowing you to buy more clothes from the brands you enjoy.

Along with the absolutely huge selections, one of the things that I love about shopping online is the fact that you can ship the present to any address you would like. This option came in handy last year around Christmas as I was able to shop for both my sister and my niece. I found that most websites offered, besides a large selection, a good percentage off as a result of the holiday season. Though this discount may have been found in the physical stores themselves, the discount alongside free shipping let me know that this is the best deal I can get on clothes. One website that I found to offer the most was FashionBug.com, where I did some shopping for myself, my sister and my niece. I found the clothing that I would've liked to buy for them and myself and then set out to work finding discounts on the web. Using Fasionbug.com coupons as my search term, I found multiple additionally discounts that I could use to further discount my total. I ended up adding an extra item for myself as a reward for doing my homework and finding a deal on the shopping I just took care of. This is a prime example of just how efficient a shopper can be when online. I made the purchase at a discount with free shipping to my relatives, while saving time and money on running out to the stores and paying for postage. I also did this entire process on my living room couch at midnight!

Though the internet may take away from some of the aspects of going out to a store or mall to get the clothes you have been saving up for, the internet provides plentiful advantages that benefit the shopper much more.<bio>Article by Cindy Davies.
Feeling guilty spending too much time at work even on weekends? Can't take a vacation with wife and kids because there are those weekly boardroom conferences that run like clockwork every Mondays? It's time to convince yourself to take a crack at audio conferencing.

Get that vacation!

It's been two years in a row since you had a really fun vacation. Business has been picking up and you cannot leave your workforce of 16 people on their own for a day, let alone a fortnight for a grand vacation in a cowboy ranch with wife and kids. Business can't run without you at the helm, so you'd better stay put.

It's your unhappy wife who introduces you to audio conferencing. She has heard about it from her niece who works for a big company. The niece says she can be at national teleconference even when she's at home filing her nails. No need for her to fly the long haul just to be stuck in a tedious meeting and it saves money for the company too.

Well, you grudgingly agree to look up an online information site on teleconferencing. It looked good. But how much would it shave off from your finances? Your wife glares at you and threatens to dump your dirty socks in the furnace if you won't take her and the kids away from the cold weather.

Audio conferencing

Soon it becomes clear to you that audio conferencing, a standard conference call, makes it possible for you to have a conference with 2 or all of your staff without your bodily presence, and with less cost in terms of international calls. You just dial a local number without having to schedule a conference if you got a reservationless program.

It is also convenient because you can use your mobile phone for the teleconference. The cinch that does you in is the greatly reduced fees for the teleconference compared to the standard long-distance calls you used to make.

You were not required to sign a contract. Yours is a small enterprise and you need that teleconference only twice =96 and until the next vacation your wife demands.

The next step is getting a dial-in number and a password, which you'll share with the people you'll have to teleconference with. You remind them to have their mobile phone batteries fully charged on the next couple of Mondays. The next step is planning the vacation, which of course your wife leads.

Family time in Texas

A vacation in Texas in November is perfect for your family =96 you all adore the great outdoors and want to try horseback riding. There are great home-cooked meals and great accommodations. You all start planning the trip and the kids are all worked up.

It has been a long time since you've enjoyed this kind of family planning. You didn't notice that you didn't make a dash for the computer. Instead, you and your wife had a fun evening with the kids for a change =96 something you should do more while your children are still little. Learn to relax because audio conferencing will make your vacation less stressful. <bio>Want to know more about audio conferencing (http://www.audio-conferencing-guide.com/), the benefits of VoIP technology (http://www.audio-conferencing-guide.com/what-is-voip.htm/), and conference call etiquette (http://www.audio-conferencing-guide.com/conference-call-etiquette.htm /)?
One of the master basket weavers of the Pomo Native American Tribe was Elsie Allen, the author of a number of how-to books in the art of Pomo basket weaving. She worked to preserve this art form that defines her people and Elsie's descendants carry on that legacy today.

Born in 1899, Elsie was raised by her grandmother in the Cloverdale area of northern California. The young girl learned the art of Pomo basket weaving from her mother, Annie Burke, and her grandmother, Nellie Burke, as well as a number of other older Pomo women that congregated at the family home. These women spent hours weaving these items, which were given as gifts, sold, or kept as heirlooms.

At the age of eleven, Elsie Allen was captured by government authorities, who packed her off to a boarding school to learn the English language and American ways. She continued to practice her basket weaving craft while she was away to ensure that she would not forget the techniques that were taught to her by her family and people.

Elsie returned to her family as a young woman and took up weaving with her family right where she had left off. Once she had married, Elsie had to work a variety of jobs, such as a domestic and a farm laborer, which left her very little time to practice the craft that she loved. It was at this point that her mother Annie began to train Elsie's children in this ancient craft.

An interesting tradition among the Pomo basket weavers included the burial of their baskets and weaving equipment and tools with them when they died. Annie begged Elsie to ignore this tradition as she wanted her daughter to have these items when she could begin her own basket weaving craft again. Upon Annie's death, Elsie retained all these valuable artifacts and kept her promise to her mother.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Elsie Allen organized the Pomo basket weavers and began to write books describing the steps that are used in making these extraordinary items. The money raised from her writings and the baskets that the weavers sold was used to help Pomo families in distress, to set up Native American college scholarships, and to finance a large lawsuit on behalf of the Pomo tribe.

Elsie Allen also served as a Pomo activist, fighting for the reclamation of Native American land and struggling to establish equal rights for her people in a very biased 1950s California. She also began to teach Pomo basket weaving to anyone who wanted to learn, regardless of race. As many of her students were white women, her own people began to criticize her as undermining their way of life.

In 1972, Elsie wrote of her disappointment in her attempts to pass on the Pomo basket weaving craft. Very few of her students at this point were Native Americans, although the attention that her classes drew from universities did help the Pomo people to be accepted by the general population.

In 1980, Elsie Allen finally found an apprentice that could learn and pass on the art of Pomo basket weaving in the form of her great-niece, Susie Billy. This niece continues to teach Pomo basket weaving classes and has served as a collaborator on several books detailing this art form.

In 1990, upon Elsie Allen's death, the collection of baskets and tools that belonged to Annie Burke as well as items that were added by Elsie passed on to Elsie's oldest daughter, Genevieve Allen Aguilar. Genevieve has placed this valuable collection of Pomo artifacts on a long-term loan to The Mendocino County Museum, where the works of these incredible women can still be viewed.<bio>We have baby gift baskets that are cute and practical.
You're the funniest and most charismatic member of the family and now your niece has just asked you to emcee her Scarborough wedding. The joke about the priest and the rabbi gets lots of chuckles at the family reunion but it just won't do in front of 300 wedding reception guests. The following are a few pointers and suggestions on how to make an entertaining Scarborough wedding reception.

Know the Order of Events

It is imperative that you know beforehand all the important events which will take place during the wedding reception and when each one will occur in Scarborough wedding reception.

Be Knowledgeable Make it a point to know every member of the wedding entourage, by name. Especially if there is to be a receiving line, familiarizing yourself with each member of the party becomes extremely important in your Scarborough wedding party. Be Engaging Get the audience involved in the entertainment. Have a few guests offer a toast to the bride and groom in your Scarborough wedding.

Be Enthusiastic

You don't have to be deliriously funny or charismatic but a huge smile and a hearty laugh goes a long way in a Scarborough wedding party. Take note as to how well the guests receive your joke or story in your Scarborough wedding party. If, after you've told your best joke, you can hear a pin drop - you'll know it's time to move on. Know Your Limits Even though you are the master or mistress of ceremonies at your Scarborough wedding, it does not mean you have to announce every single aspect throughout the course of the wedding reception. While you should announce that the bride and groom are now going to cut the cake in your Scarborough party, you should not have to point out that Uncle Darrell has just gone up to the buffet table for the third time in your Scarborough wedding party. <bio>At Babylon Video andamp; Photo Productions we specialize in individually tailored Wedding Photography, Videos and DVD's, offering an experienced, highly professional and affordable service http://www.VideoBabylon.ca </bio>

With spring comes parties and giving gifts. With several parties to attend over the next two months, I found that Mother's Day was causing me a little problem with coming up with gift ideas for my mother and mother-in-law. Since they have collected everything they could need over the years, finding a gift for them was difficult. Here is a well put together hobby related page http://www.hobbiesforfun.com. As I was trying to discover some gift idea, a friend told me she was ordering from Cookies by Design. Having never heard of this, I had to ask what she meant. Apparently, Cookies by Design makes various cookie bouquets and other treats for many occasions. They even deliver.

Deciding to look them up, I found that Cookies by Design offered a spring bouquet that would be perfect with a spring collage of tulips, daisies, and other flowers. Quickly ordering two of them, I let Cookies by Design handle the delivery for Mother's Day. The bouquets were a hit with both of our mothers.

While still celebrating Mother's Day, I received an invitation to our nephew's graduation party in three weeks. Since my sister-in-law needed help with decorations for his party, I suggested that she look into Cookies by Design. Searching their website, we found several graduation themed bouquets as well as several sports themes, which was helpful since my nephew played several sports while in high school.

Cookies by Design came to the rescue again as we planned my niece's baby shower. With absolutely adorable baby shower bouquets, you almost don't want to eat them. However, the cookies actually taste wonderful. Cookies by Design offers a unique twist to center pieces and gifts. Not only are they beautiful and eye-catching, but you can also eat them! <bio>Scotty helps out with: http://www.hubcapreport.com http://www.mywebrelease.com </bio>

Generating a decent income for one's self isn't as hard as you may think. The truth is, practically anybody can make money these days! See, the thing is, we all have some type of skill; or just a raw talent that could potentially earn us some serious cash. If people would just think outside the box a little bit when it comes to making money, they would probably realize that they could be making a lot more cash then they are now.

You gotta ask yourself, "is there a certain skill that I have that others would pay for?" There's a good chance that you do.

For example, say that you love to draw, and you've been doing it your entire life, receiving compliment after compliment about how great your work is. To you, it might just be a cool hobby of yours; but to some, that hobby of yours is worth paying for.

People are always looking for someone to draw there new logo or tattoo; and as popular as tattoo's are, you should have no problem finding eager clients.

What about that one kid in the neighborhood that knows absolutely everything there is to know about computers? You know the one that everyone goes to whenever there new software isn't running properly; or when that confusing error message won't go away. Whatever the problem is he could always fix it or explain why the problem occurred, and what steps can be taken to resolve the issue. That kid could easily turn his skill into a very lucrative business for himself as well as for others. He could easily start charging a small fee for his assistance; or better yet offer classes teaching others what he knows.

Now think about all of those gadgets that you may have been developing over the past few years. That weird looking thing that makes cutting the grass easier, or that cup you invented for your 4 year old niece that lights up and talks every time she picks it up.

New ideas can easily turn into big bucks for those who take action with them.

Turning your niche into dollars is a very realistic concept. Take time to think about what it is that you do best; and turn that into a short or long term income. Search the internet for tools and resources that can help you get started with promoting your niche. Use your family and friends, even co-workers to help you get the word out. Ebay could be a good place to look at, considering what your niche is. Do not hesitate to let your god given talent or skill provide a financially stronger life style. <bio>http://www.successfulhomebusinesssecret.com </bio>

One night last week, I walked by this gal with a friend, plus my friend's 10 year-old niece.

We three got about 15 feet past her, and suddenly we heard someone burst into tears. I turned and saw the woman just crying her heart out, right in the street.

We all walked back, and asked her what the matter was.

andquot; It's just so hard out here, I work so hard to play and I can't pay my rent...I was just evicted and my husband and I don't know what to do...One man gave a dollar and then took it back...andquot; and she just cried. She said her name was Nancy.

We all felt terrible for her, so we gave her $25. Until then, I'd put $1-2 in her hat from time to time. Since then, everytime I've passed her I've put in $5.

Last evening, my friend and I again walked by her. This time she was crying loudly again, with a few people around giving her extra money.

andquot;Geez,andquot; I said to my friend, andquot;do you think something else bad happened to her today?andquot;

andquot;I don't know,andquot; said my friend, andquot;maybe she's found a new way to get some extra money from people who walk by.andquot;

andquot;Duh,andquot; I said, thinking how slow-witted I was.

andquot;Well, andquot; said my friend, andquot;at least she doesn't have to maim her kid.andquot; (see for reference: <a href="http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?p=6408" >http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?p=6408 )

To explain, that's something my friend had personally witnessed in Turkey 20 years ago, and which she had related to me not a week before these events...

Shall we count our blessings? <bio>Kim Klaver is Harvard andamp; Stanford educated.
Have you ever experienced getting an invitation to a birthday party of your beloved 2-year old niece or nephew and do not know what to give? The moment you step into the toy store you find yourself in the midst of fascinating toys and you just can't decide which one to pick.

Well, if you have, then I'm sure that these five tips will be a big help to you in choosing the best toy to give -- toys that are fun but still educational.

Tip number one is to be sure that you are buying a toy that really is for a toddler. Sometimes we may over-estimate them and treat them like bigger children.

But no matter what many may think, you should still buy a toy that fits in the age range of a toddler. If you buy a toy that isn't, there is a large possibility that the child wont like it. Also, try not to buy toys with detachable parts because the child might swallow it.

Tip number two is to choose something that will help the child build abilities or skills that aid them, when they grow up, in their academics. Remember that a child will be at his or her best when he or she is open to letters, numbers and sounds at a young age.

So that the child will be interested, you can look for blocks, books, flashcards or puzzles with bright colors. Some toys can even talk to children. These kind of toys are a big help to the children.

The third tip is to make sure that the child as well as the parent will like it. Look for something like a book. You can easily spot toddler books because they are usually made from cardboard and are colorful.

Some books have sounds and they recite nursery rhymes. Some have pop-ups and fur for the kids to touch. It is better for parents to read to their child, to show the child that learning is very much important.

Fourth is not to be carried away. Remember that giving the biggest and best gift isn't the most important part of a present. Choose something that won't empty your pockets but will still fill the happiness of the child. Give a gift that will help them in learning at the same time be enjoyable.

The last tip is to always be creative. When you shop for the toy, think of something original yet not too weird.

In short, when you are choosing a gift in a toy store, remember that the toy you are about to give should be creative and interesting. Remember that it should fit the age of the child. Just don't forget to wrap the gift, and don't give it bare to the toddler! <bio>Low Jeremy maintains http://educational-toys.articlesforreprint.com.
Family Health Care

Now that my daughter is getting older I am becoming more and more concerned about family health care. When she was a baby I would have to pay for her shots and her doctor's visits with cash. Though I realized that if something horrible were to happen I would have to pay for everything out of pocket. Now to she's getting older I want to take care of her health coverage. This means I have to worry about having a comprehensive coverage package that includes our entire family.

For my family, this wouldn't be such a problem if it were not for some unusual circumstances. My husband and I have a family health care plan through his employer. However, because my daughter is actually my niece, and we have yet to officially adopt her, she is not allowed to be on our health care plan. We are now in the process of adopting her, but until then, my family health-care costs must come out of my own pocket. As she near school age, this begins to concern me more and more.

New York State does have a family health-care plan. If you live in New York you have probably seen the commercials for this. Though the commercials say that their family health-care plan is simple and easy, I have to say that I disagree. I have gone to the application process numerous times for my daughter, only to find her coverage canceled for stupid reasons.

One time they got my address wrong, and her insurance cards were returned to sender. When this happened, they canceled her insurance policy without trying to contact me and another time they lost my payment, and her insurance was canceled with no notification.

Until we can get our family health care problems under control, I can only continue to hope and pray that everything remains as it is. We have been blessed with a very healthy child, and her medical expenses thus far have not been very bad. I don't think that I will completely be able to relax about the situation until we have her adopted and she can then be added to my husband's employers family health care plan.

Though I never wish anything to happen to anyone, you can only sleep better at night when you know everyone in your household is covered. I cannot rely on the State of New York any longer. <bio>Ann Merier writes articles about the home and family health.Article topics include mothers day, diabetes, detox diet, yoga, pilates exercise http://ultimatehealthinfo.com http://losingweight.ultimatehealthinfo.com/ http://skincare.ultimatehealthinfo.com/ </bio>

A home based business is just as much work as any other business and takes extreme amount of dedication and determination. Working hard each and everyday in the beginning is going to be something that you will need to do. You will need to invest time and money into your home business to keep it running.

After all of that hard work you put in you are going to have a business that you are in control of. This means that you will have more freedom then you ever experienced working for anyone else. Owning your own business means that you will have the freedom to spend time with family. Your daughter has a ballet recital, or your son has a baseball game? No problem for you, because you are free to take off and go when ever you need to. If your child gets sick you do not have to worry about calling in sick to work to stay home and take care of them. Doctor's appointments for you and your family are no longer difficult to arrange, because you are free to go at any time that is available to you.

Many people would love the freedom to just go on vacation when they wanted to. When you own your own business you have that freedom. You can take a couple of days off to go on vacation any time of the year you want. Depending on the type of business you are running you may even have the freedom to take your business with you where ever you go.

An internet business can be run from anywhere in the world. If you have a laptop you can take your work with you anywhere. That soccer game of your son, daughter, cousin, niece, or nephew is now your office. Perhaps you would like to take an extended vacation but need to keep tabs on your business and how things are being run. Not a problem at all if your business is an internet based business and you have a laptop. Go on a cruise, or take a trip to another country all while still working and making the money to enjoy your life.

Running an internet business and taking it with you wherever you go also means that you can even work at the park or some other out door location. This is especially nice if you have little children who need the time to be out doors but you still need to do the work to keep your income level where it is.

Remember that the more work you put into your home based business the more money you are going to make. The more profitable your business is the more freedom you will have to do the things you really want to do. Having freedom to do the things that you want to do will lead to a more happy and fulfilled life. Obtaining your goals for your life is one of the reasons that many people enjoy having their own business. <bio>Joey Aucoin is owner of http://www.Thousanddollarprofits.com/joey to learn more about starting your home business visit http://www.Thousanddollarprofits.com/joey </bio>

In my devotion time this morning, I was reading a passage of scripture I have read many times; however, this time my eyes and thoughts focused on the word andquot;leaveandquot;. In Genesis 12:1-3, the Lord says to Abram, andquot;Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.andquot; How many of us would drop everything, leave our family, our jobs, even our country to follow the call of God? Yet, Abram left, not knowing exactly where he was going, but with a promise that he would be blessed and all the nations of the earth would be blessed through him. I wonder what would have happened if he hadn't left? Certainly, history would have been written differently. If Abram, who later became Abraham, had not stepped out in faith we may not be believers today. The scripture declares that Abraham is the father of us all. His stepping out, his journey of faith established a chain of events that ushered Christ into the world. We are believers because of Abraham's leap of faith.

Well, what does all of this have to do with life coaching? It seems to me that a life that is really worth living is a life of faith. It is a life that dares to step out into the unknown, to take risks, to pursue a call or dream. It's a life that knows how to leave the familiar and comfortable behind.

My niece just started graduate school and it's a big step for her. She has really left the familiar, her home, her state and her friends to embark on a new journey. It's only been a few days and the report I have heard is that it's been tough. I am sure when my sister and brother-in-law helped her move her into a strange apartment, in a strange town, there had to be many tears. No doubt my niece probably thought, andquot;what I have done now?andquot; Boy, do I remember those tears. When my parents drove me from Richmond, Virginia to Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, I think both of us cried for a week! I had never lived away from home, but college turned out to be one of the better experiences of my life. I am sure it will be for my neice as well.

The truth is, without risks there is really nothing gained. In 1992, Gail Devers ran 100 meters in 10.82 seconds to win the Olympic gold medal for the 100 meter dash. A year prior to this achievement, she could barely walk. In 1990, she was diagnosed with Graves' disease. During her radiation treatments, she received too much radiation and experienced serious side effects. In fact, the doctors told her that if she had walked two more days both of her feet would have been amputated. They immediately modifed her treatment and by March of 1991, she returned to the track. When she entered the Olympic track stadium in 1992, she prayed, andquot;God, help me run the race of my life.andquot; God answered her prayer. andquot;If you have a problem and you are about to give up,andquot; Devers said, andquot;think of meandquot;. andquot;Last year, I couldn't walk. Now, I've got a gold medal for running. The last three years of my life have definitely been a miracle.andquot;

Life is an incredible adventure and there are no doubt all kinds of provisions and miracles waiting for us, if we will just andquot;carpe diemandquot; (seize the day). I am constantly amazed and delighted by the women that are, not only my friends, but the women I have the opportunity to life coach. What a privilege to know and walk with them through their journeys! I can think of several women who have taken some courageous steps. They have dared to say andquot;yesandquot;, and to step out of their comfort zones into the unknown. As a result, their lives have radically changed. They don't look or act the same. There is a glow in their countenance, and I believe they have a new sense of purpose and passion for life. Some of these women are taking risks to start businesses and others have left the familiar to become involved with or start ministries. They have the left the comfortable and the familiar behind and are going for it!

Others I know are taking on personal challenges to grow, stretch and reach new goals. On a personal level, I recently had the privilege of walking with a dear friend through cancer. She not only walked through cancer with complete grace, surviving radiation, chemo and hair loss; but has gone on to accept new challenges in her life! To the complete amazement of her doctor and friends, she recently ran a 26 mile marathon and is in training right now for a triathalon which involves swimming in the gulf of Mexico! Wow, what will she accomplish next? Not only has cancer not deterred her but, in all likelihood, has probably emboldened her to take new risks and accept new challenges.

Harry Emerson Fosdick said, andquot; It is cynicism and fear that freeze life; it is faith that thaws it out, releases it, sets it free.andquot; Maybe you and I don't need to leave our country like Abraham did, but maybe we do need to get off the sideline of life and jump in, take a risk. When we dare to leave the familiar and comfortable behind, I believe we begin to live a life really worth living. When we step out in faith, all kinds of doors and opportunities open to us that we never dreamed possible. We can look back over our lives like Gail Devers and and say, wow, didn't we experience the miraculous! <bio>Janet Daughtry, MDiv, CBC, is a certified life coach helping women realize their potential and walk in their purpose. Thus, the kind of toys we get them are crucial, because, as children, the best way to impart knowledge into their fresh minds is through play. A child's playtime should never be dismissed as just something to pass the time; because it is during play that they absorb everything they hear, see, smell and touch. Getting him or her an educational toy or game is one of the best things you can do for him or her right now.

The educational toys below are ideal to help jumpstart your kid's curiosity and sense of discovery. The next time you're going out shopping for a new toy for your kid, or for a gift for your favorite niece or nephew, you might want to consider the suggestions below.

LeapFrog's Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Set

When shopping for an educational toy, you might want to get something that is okay for even the youngest toddlers to use. This is definitely an educational toy that will last a long time (provided that it doesn't get smashed!) and bring a lot of benefits to you and your kid.

Shopping for educational toys and games is not really difficult, given the fact that toy manufacturers have effectively classified them into age levels and learning capacities.

However, with the multitude of products for every age group, getting the right game that would hold your baby's attention could be a challenge. Ask the store attendant to give you a demonstration of the toy first before you bring it to the cash register. If it's something you believe your child will enjoy, go for it. <bio>Low Jeremy maintains http://educational-toys.articlesforreprint.com.
