One of the most important decisions you will make once you find you are pregnant is that of picking the perfect baby name. Everyone has their own idea of what a great name is, sometimes it is as simple as whatever is currently fashionable as per the top 10 names for the country in the year that the baby is born, sometimes it's a family name that honors a favorite relative, and sometimes it's just a name that the mother (or father) really likes.

The baby name chosen will occasionally carry certain cultural significance. This happens often in the case of popular baby names as they are fashionable for a certain period of time and then the trend changes and so you can put babies with those names into a certain decade. Television, and to a lesser extent movies, can influence these trends as certain television shows have characters with names which are "different" and which parents like so this is added to the list of potential baby names. There are exceptions to this however, as there are some baby names which are timeless and have been handed down generation to generation throughout the family.

Whether or not to choose the baby name before the baby is born is a matter for personal preference. There are parents who decide what their baby's name will be from the moment they have the pregnancy confirmed - and in some cases, they know what baby names they will choose before they are even pregnant! Then there are other parents who wait until the baby is born before naming it. Sometimes this is because they can't agree on a name, or because they haven't found one they like, or sometimes just because they want to wait to see how the baby looks before naming it.

Once the baby is born, there's still time to pick the perfect baby name for your baby. Even if the name was decided months before the birth, it's possible that having seen the baby, the name will change. When you see your baby for the first time, and hold it in your arms, you may decide that the name chosen doesn't seem to fit with the baby you are looking at. Maybe the baby has more delicate features than the robust name chosen suggests, or vice versa. It's also possible that there was someone instrumental in bringing the baby into the world that you want to honor by naming your baby after them - and this won't be known until after the birth occurs.

Take time to choose the perfect name for your baby, and don't be afraid to change your mind at the last minute if you feel it's not quite appropriate, after all the baby is going to wear that name a long time!
Naming your baby is a real challenge, if you go for a popular name your child might not like it because it's too common, if you go for an unusual baby name it's hard to get a balance between unusual and weird. Then there's the unique baby names but what constitutes as unique when there are 100,000's of names to choose from.

Some say go for names of your ancestors but then you can struggle because names are like clothes in that fashions come and go. A name that was popular in years gone by can be seen as absolutely horrendous when associated with a young child. And then there are personal tastes, what one person likes another hates, even close families can often disagree so how on earth do you make a decision as to what name your child would like before your baby is even born.

Naming babies is a challenge that so many of us face and some get it right while others get it totally wrong. All's you can do is do your best, put time and effort into finding that perfect name, consider the pro's and con's of the extremely popular (perhaps one of the top 10 baby names), selecting from the top 100 baby names or going for the unusual or unique baby names and go for what you feel is right.

It's often useful to run your short list of names by close family and friends to gauge their reaction and get a feel as to how your favourite baby names are perceived by others. Also, seek the opinion of different age groups as the older generation may be inclined to go for traditional names while others might like the more unusual or unique baby names.

What is so important is that you do not choose an unusual or unique baby name that will be seen as a joke allowing your baby to be ridiculed from birth, through school and beyond. Do not select a name that is cute for a baby but a nightmare as your baby grows up and think carefully before choosing a name that is so popular that there will be three or more in every class and several in the office when they start work.

Once you have chosen your baby's name always say it out loud several times and write down the initials. The most perfect baby name might prove an embarrassment to your child if it doesn't fit well with your surname and if the initials stand for something it could result in your baby being ridiculed for life! <bio>For a baby website with a difference visit: http://www.1st-4-baby.com/Baby_Names.html </bio>

Naming a baby is easy. All you have to do is think of a name that would suit him or her and viola, the child will carry it all throughout its life. Some pressure.

Relax though, naming a baby should not be difficult. Just make sure that whatever name you come up with will suit the baby up until the baby becomes a full-fledged adult.

The following are helpful tips to make baby naming a fun, enjoyable work.

Know what you want and do not want

Early on, it is best that you decide what kinds and types of name do you want to call your baby. Do you imagine yourself shouting "Ralph!," "Amanda," "Edward, or "Raul?"

What you call your baby now is what he or she will be called for life. So decide where and how you want to go about choosing names. Do you prefer a more traditional route or would you want to choose from a list of unusual baby names?

Ask family and friends

To probably give you an idea on the names you might want to call your child, ask around or interview relatives and get to know your family tree as well as your partner's. If there are those people whose lives have touched you or those who have played a significant if not meaningful part in your lives, you may consider their names. Make sure though that both you and your partner agree to such a condition and that it is a name both of you will like.

Make a list and check it twice

Another option you could do is making a list of your personal favorite artists, actors, actress, places, characters from novels, movies or plays or from history or art, mythology, etc.

It would be best if such names or places have a significant meaning to you and your partner. If you and your partner considered the capital of France as the place where you definitely fell in love, proposed, (or where the baby was made), name the child Paris (at your own risk of course).

Know your lineage

In struggling to come up with a beautiful baby name, take this opportunity to also know your family's heritage as well as your partner's.

Would you want to have a specific ethnic sounding name for your baby? It may also be a chance for you to acknowledge or recognize your own or your partner's nationality.

Buy a baby name book

This cuts out the effort, sweat, toil and tears of having to come up with a unique name or in looking for one. Through a baby name book, all you have to do is open its pages, close your eyes and let your finger do all the walking.

Wherever your eyes or your finger rests on may be the name that you might be looking for all yourlife. Be careful though and always feel free to change your mind just in case your finger rests on a Bartholomew or a Willamina.

The best way to go about this process is by highlighting the names you or your partner prefers. Then start from there.

Look at the big picture

Now that you may have a probable list of names, try to check how they stack up against the last name of the baby. First and last names that rhyme really do not sound too good. Long names are really not preferred, imagine how your child will write his or her name or introduce him or her self during their first day of school. Also, try to avoid any names, the nickname of which may be unflattering.

All in all, naming a baby is supposed to be a fun thing to do. Enjoy it, until the child grows up and become old enough to legally change it on its own.

All Rights Reserverd - Reprint of this article is only authorized when links remain intact. <bio>Ashton Renderly talks all about naming your new little one at http://www.bestbabygift.info..
While looking into search patterns I stumbled upon the fact that parents to be or other people that has an interest in baby names are divided into to major groups. Nothing special about the fact that people belongs to different groups but this one shows a trend that has been gaining strength for the last 5-10 years.

On one side we have the parents that are searching for phrases like "top 100 baby names", "top ten baby names", "popular baby names" etc. All of these phrases have in common that the surfer is looking for what everyone else is naming their baby.

Now don't get me wrong... There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to call your baby a commonly used name. There can many reasons for wanting to name your baby boy or baby girl the same name as most other kids. A reason could be that you want the baby to be socially accepted when he or she grows up and starts playing with other children.

Another reason would be that it might be easier for the baby to get called in for a job interview and maybe even get the job. It can be a tradition in the family to name the babies the name that ranks number 1 in the previous year.

There can be a lot of reasons for naming a baby after the majority of the babies born in that time period. This is not the part that got my attention.

What got my attention was that on the other side there is a similar large group of parents that is looking for the exact opposite. They are searching for phrases like "unusual baby names", odd baby names", unique baby names" etc.

Again the reasons for wanting an unusual baby name can be many and I can only guess what they might be but from what is happening in society I think that some of the most obvious reasons are these:

You want to show the outside world that your baby is something special. By giving your child a name that only a few people carry then you have made them special. They now have a name that will (probably) be easier for other people to remember because of the fact that they haven't heard the name before.

A second reason can be that it has become a trend to name you child a unique name. Over the years this trend has been increasing and like with the common name a special name can now apply status as well.

Why people are divided into these categories no one knows. There is naturally still the third category left and that are the ones searching for neutral baby names. It is hard to say anything specific about these search patterns but it is a fact that they exist and there is nothing right or wrong no matter what category you might fall into. <bio>http://Unique-baby-footprint.com provides you with information on all kinds of baby keepsake related issues like baby handprint picture, baby footprint and more.
Wading through the mess of baby names can be both inspiring and exhausting. How do you decide which name is right for the child you have yet to meet? How will you and your spouse ever agree on a single name? And finally, when you get the name picked out, what happens if it is totally wrong for the baby when she arrives?

Fortunately, there are things to consider that will significantly ease the process. Choosing the best name for your baby should be one of the most joyful parts of planning, and these tips will help put you on the right path.

#1 -- Meaning

Consider the origin of the baby name and what it might mean to you or others. Will this baby represent something to you or is she a miracle? Look through the meanings of baby girl names to find something that signifies what she represents. Likewise, be careful of the meanings of names. Making a decision only to find out your picked "the fool" from all the baby boy's names available can put a damper on your fun.

#2 -- Impression

Strongly consider the impression of the name on you and others. Is it hard to pronounce or understand? Does it roll of the tongue naturally or does it sound forced? If you have a long last name, you probably want to avoid a very long first name. Consider the way a first name sounds with your last name. Sometimes baby names are beautiful in theory, but awkward in reality.

#3 -- Memories

Does a certain memory inspire you? When selecting a name, consider what memories that name conjures up. Did you pick a name that sounds entirely too much like your ex-boyfriend? This might make things a bit uncomfortable for you and your spouse. Some names are simply not an option, but I doubt anyone would complain too loudly about not being able to name their daughter after a husband's ex-fiancée.

#4 -- Religion

Often religion plays a role in making the final decision among baby names. Certain religions have specific expectations regarding the birth of children into the faith. If you are active in your faith, it would be wise to investigate what your religious teachings have to say about naming children.

#5 -- Honor

Does your selection of baby girl names include a friend or family member you are thinking about honoring? Naming a baby girl after her grandmother or a special aunt is extremely special to all parties involved and can help the baby develop closeness with her namesake as she grows. Middle names are used often for the purpose of honoring others. Naming a child after a family tradition works the same way. For the child's sake, however, if you name him after his father or her mother, find the baby a nickname to help ease the confusion of having the same name as someone else in the household. <bio>Article provided by the http://www.muslim-names.co.uk site, which also includes http://www.muslim-names.co.uk/muslim-baby-boy-names-A-1.html and http://www.muslim-names.co.uk/muslim-baby-girl-names-A-1.html </bio>

The purpose of a baby shower is to celebrate the arrival of a new baby, and to welcome the little one into the world. Today, expectant mothers often decide to know the gender of the baby before they give birth, and it is known ahead of the baby shower. However, in some cases, parents choose to wait until the due date to know the sex of the baby and be surprised the day that the infant arrives.

In American society, when the gender of the baby is known, parents often begin brainstorming ideas and deciding on some names that they believe will be perfect for the baby. In many cases, parents already know what they want to name the baby even before the child is born, which allows friends and family members the opportunity to personalize baby gifts for baby showers or to welcome everyone home from the hospital. (For a great selection of personalized gifts, go here: http://www.simplyuniquebabygifts.com/personalized-baby-gifts.html)

This is not the case, however, for various different cultures. There are a variety of different cultures that view the baby-naming process from a completely different perspective. Each cultural group generally has some sort of a baby-naming ceremony or traditional process. From the Jewish to the Japanese, each culture views the act of giving a name to a baby from a very interesting and distinct angle.

In Japan, the baby naming ceremony is typically held seven days after the baby's birth. The name is written in Kanji, which are Chinese characters that are usually used in the modern Japanese Iogographic writing system. On this seventh day, the Japanese give their children a first name and a last name, but no middle name, which is a common custom in American society. Girls are usually given names that are associated with purity and morality, and boys are often associated with their position in the family. Lists are often consulted with top 100 baby boy names and top 100 baby girl names. The idea is to either choose one that is very popular or the rare baby names from the list.

Greek baby names are chosen in a totally different fashion. Greek families also often name their babies on the seventh day after their birth, and sometimes on the tenth day. Traditionally, first-born males are named after their paternal grandfather, and first-born females are named after their paternal grandmother. The Greek Orthodox Church also strongly influences the baby-naming process, and many infants are given the names of saints. Because of this saint name acquisition, children acquire their saint's "name day".Therefore, many Greek Orthodox people celebrate their lives on two occasions: their actual birth date and their saint's name day.

For many Italian and Hispanic cultures, baby names are also often influenced by religion. In these areas, the Roman Catholic religion is the most prevalent; therefore, biblical names like Maria (in Hispanic culture), and Paulo (in Italian culture) are common. Many parents are not only looking for unique spanish baby girl names and baby boy names. They are looking to the bibles for biblical baby names.

In Jewish culture, baby girls have what is called the Zeved Habat ceremony, while baby boys have the Berit Milah ceremony. The Zevet Habat is a small ceremony held at a home or in a synagogue. During the ceremony, which is led by a Rabbi, the mother recites a word, the name-giving prayer is said, and she then gives thanks to everyone.

There are countless different ways of naming a baby, and there is no right or wrong method to giving your child the perfect name. It is interesting to see, however, the traditions and customs of baby naming across the globe - how they are similar and yet, very unique, according to customs and traditions.<bio>Edie Mindell is the Creative Content Writer for SimplyUniqueBabyGifts.com.
Naming their babies seems to have become a growing trend (and some might even call it a sport) among celebrities, actors, actresses, pop musicians and the likes. The ultimate goal is to give the kid the coolest and rarest name in town (ShowbizVille).

Ten years ago or even five years ago the task was easy but since then it has become harder and harder to come up with something unique that would make headlines. And then you're also competing with your fellow showbiz colleagues' babies named Alaia, Amandine, Rebel etc.

So when reading the stories in magazines and newspapers what do we ordinary people do when hearing these maternity celeb baby names? Surely we're not able to create the same headlines or make it the 7 o'clock news but we can at least feel inspired.

The fact is that the showbiz world influences us in a lot of ways. It can be the way we cut our hair, the clothes we chose to buy, the make-up and the cars that we drive. So in reality it isn't that strange to see ordinary people giving their children names just like the celebrities.

Some examples of celeb baby names are: Alaia (Stephen Baldwin), Amandine (John Malkovich), Apple (Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin), Assisi Jade (Jagger), Atticus (Isabella Hoffman and Daniel Baldwin)...

The list is long and every week a new celeb baby name is making headlines. There has actually been published a book called "Cool Names for Babies" that has tons of celebrity baby names along with lots of other unique (some might call them strange) baby names.

To be honest I think that it is great that people are naming their kids are old Greek philosophers, Roman gods, extinct animals and the likes. It provides us with a great, colorful landscape of names and it sends out positive energy.

However I do feel that you need to give it some thought before giving your child some crazy names just to make it special. It might be unique to be names "Ass" but I'm sure that it'll give the kid a hard time growing up. So be careful what you end up naming your baby.

To end I'll give you a few more maternity celeb baby names for inspiration: Cosima (Nigella Lawson), Daisy Boo (Jamie Oliver), Dexter (Diane Keaton), Dixie Dot and Bibi Belle (Anna Ryder Richardson), Elijah Bob Patricus Guggi Q (Bono), Gulliver (Gary Oldman)... <bio>Unique-baby-footprint.com provides you with information on all kinds of baby keepsake related issues like baby handprint picture, baby footprint and more.
Remember Cinderella's industrious little 'fairy' Godmother who swept her away from her wicked stepmother, in a pumpkin horse carriage to meet her prince charming? Of course you do. You also remember Marlon Brando, silent and sinister, Mario Puzo's Godfather. The term God 'parent', therefore you see, ranges over a plethora of meanings and indications. Often therefore it is seen as a rather confusing term by new parents.

The God parents have been a traditional a part of the naming ceremony. But whether the term itself is appropriate to be associated with the event remains a point of much disagreement amongst people.

Some argue that the term Godparents is inexorably linked to religious christenings and baptisms, usually sacrosanct events which are viewed as far more significant than an ordinary Naming Ceremony. The word 'God' apparently enlivens in people a feeling of religion, which can be a burden. They thus started trying to replace the word God with far 'simpler' words for the purpose. Everything from the term 'Guideparents' to 'Guardparents' to 'mentor' and 'Sponsors' have been known to be used recently. As the Naming Ceremony itself becomes more popular far more such names are expected to rise up.

Irrespective of what you call them however the primary duty of the 'Godparents' is to take care of the child in case some unfortunate event claims the parents.

The Naming Ceremony and the selection of the Godparent is of course a completely secular celebration and is in no way linked to the ceremonies held in order to induct individuals into a certain religion. Nor is the event a precursor of a possible baptism or christening. It is simply an event marking the arrival of a new member of the family which is attended by everyone who belongs to the family as a whole.

The Naming Ceremony therefore is an event marking a welcome of sorts; it's a way of inviting the individual into the world, into society. <bio>Jackie Kent is an author and mother.
So you are ready for the the most difficult challenge of having a new baby; it's time to choose your baby's name! Seriously now, for some couples it appears that choosing a name for their baby is as difficult as trying to empty the whole sea with a spoon!

Of course, no matter how desperate you are about choosing a beautiful name for your newborn, this article will definitely give you some great ideas! More importantly, you will get rid of the annoying question "Have you picked a name yet?"

Putting the jokes aside now, let's get our hands on some important tips that will really assist you in picking a beautiful name for your baby.

Well, the first thing that you have to do is to try to think about a person that you admired through your whole life. Of course, this will probably lead you to the common practice of naming your baby after your mother/father (it's almost impossible that this has not already crossed your mind) but there are also circumstances when you are going to remember other people that you always adored.

No success? Well, have a good look at your sweet newborn; does it reflect something really unique? Is there something special about your baby that reminds you of a beautiful name? People have named their children with names such as "Star" or "Aurora" because that's what they felt their baby was reflecting. Among names of this category, there are also names that represent moral values; you could consider those too.

If you still haven't picked up a name yet, you are probably lost among the thousands of names available. If this is the case then the whole matter boils down to finding a name that both you and your partner like. Sit down, discuss about various names and make a list of potential choices. Try to filter out names that you don't really like and you will hopefully end up with your best choice. Good luck! <bio>http://www.baby-parenting.co.uk - Baby Parenting UK http://www.baby-parenting.co.uk/baby/irish_baby_names.html - Irish Baby Names http://www.baby-parenting.co.uk/pregnancy/pregnancy.html - Pregnancy information </bio>

Choosing to give your baby an unusual baby name requires careful consideration before making the final decision. Unusual baby names can be attractive and can single your child out, especially if the name is one that is thought to be "cool" or attractive. The danger is that you are making your child different from its peers by naming it something unfamiliar - and this isn't always a good thing for a child.

Babies grow into adults, and the name you choose will be that of an adult for far more years than it will be sitting on the shoulders of a child, but an unusual baby name could make those few child years seem like a lifetime if the child is carrying around a name which opens them up to teasing. Whilst there are some very positive reasons why you should give your child an unusual baby name to let them stand apart from the masses of Emmas, and Davids, you need to seriously consider the childhood years and how this name will affect them. The formative years will be what shape them into the adults they will become, and if you give them a name which is too unusual, it may be too big for them to carry in which case they will tend to keep in the shadows as much as possible so as not to draw attention to themselves and not realize their full potential.

As adults, many people especially in show business have made a living by changing their name into something that can identify them from the others in the same line of entertainment. Even in business, it can be to someone's advantage to have a name that stands out from the rest as it will be more likely to be remembered.

If you decide that you do want to use an unusual baby name, choose something that whilst "different" from the other names on the top 10 list, is still a name that is going to be accepted as not being "weird" by your child's future classmates. Take a look at baby names for different cultures to your own, perhaps think about your own heritage and where your ancestors came from, and see if there is a name common to that part of the world which will give you the unusual baby name you crave, without making your baby cringe every time he or she hears it called out in public! With a bit of research and forethought, you can give your baby the unusual baby name you desire, one that will set him apart as an adult, whilst at the same time not draw too much attention to the name during his school years.
Imagine. Your baby, now 4 years old, has just completed her first day at kindergarten. You're waiting anxiously for the return of the school bus, praying that she enjoyed her first day at school, that everything went well, that she'll be OK. She gets off the bus. You rush forward to hug her. And she's in tears. Through her sobbing, barely able to understand what she's saying, you desperately try to find out the cause of her meltdown. Gradually, between sobs, you hear little Apple mumble "they made fun of my name. I'm never going back there. Never."

Happily, this is not a true story. (As far as I know). But when you're trying to select your new baby's name, it's something you definitely want to avoid.

Picking a name for your baby, especially your first, is not easy. It can be difficult, time-consuming, and fraught with anxiety. These ten tips will help you successfully give your baby one of her most important lifelong gifts -- her name.

1. Start looking at baby names early. You are likely to change your mind often, so the more time you allow, the easier it will be.

2. Use the internet. There are lots of great resources online, from baby name lists, to articles about the meanings and origins of names, to forums.

3. Classic is classic for a reason. Classic means time-tested, well-loved. Classic names always work well.

4. Don't be too trendy or cool. For example, Brittany was # 3 on the popularity charts in 1990. Today, it doesn't make the top 50. Tastes and fashions change.

5. The pressure to use names that have been "handed-down" for generations may be hard to resist. But you should try. Alfred isn't what it used to be.

6. Pay attention to what a name may mean, even if the meaning is obscure. The biblical name Helah, for example, actually means "rust." In this age of the internet, any meanings will be dug up by your child's middle school friends, so be sure to do a background check on names you are considering.

7. Don't make it too hard to pronounce. There's a reason why Caoimhe (pronounced "kee-va") hasn't made it into the Top 100 yet.

8. Make sure it works with your surname. If your last name is Tree, don't name your son Ash or your daughter Jade. And if your last name is Johnson, please avoid John.

9. Consider the siblings, present or planned. If you already have a daughter named Caroline, it would be a little odd to name your son Flint.

10. Finally, be proud of the name you pick. If you've done your research, and agonized over it, you've done the best you can. And that's a special gift for your new baby. <bio>Neil Street is co-owner of http://www.babynamesgarden.com, a baby naming website.
Parents can get carried away in thinking of names to call their baby even before birth. Due to the excitement, parents tend to formulate names from the ordinary to outlandish forgetting that the name which they will bestow to their child will be a lifetime gift. So before your child ends up with a name that he or she may either love or hate, read on some guidelines on naming a baby to avoid the latter.

Pick a name that you like

It is important that the child's name conveys happiness. Avoid names that will bring images of sadness, anger or unpleasant events.

Choose a nice-sounding name

Practice saying a name with the surname. Listen for peculiarities in sound which may end up being used to tease your child in school in the future. Likewise, avoid names which spell out unpleasant or improper words when initials are put together. It is also beneficial for your child to have a name that is easy to pronounce.

Do a research on the meaning of a name

A child will definitely appreciate a name with a lovely and positive meaning.

Be aware of possible nicknames

Just like the formal or real name, the possible nicknames that people may give to the child must be thought of well. Play with the letters of the name to come up with potential nicknames. Choose a name with possible nicknames that you like.

Think about the baby's gender

While it is easy to set your mind on a girl during the early signs of pregnancy, you might just end up with a boy. So be sure to think of possible names for a girl and for a boy. Getting too attached with a girl's name can lead to disappointment when a boy arrives instead. In some cases, names can be used for both genders so that must be considered also.

Consider naming after a family member

Some families carry the tradition of naming babies after older family members. Others choose to name a baby after the mother's mother as a sign of respect and love.

Keep the spelling simple

In an effort for uniqueness, some parents complicate the spelling of simple names not realizing that the child may find it troublesome to keep on spelling his or her name every time. It is more advisable to keep the spelling simple and easy to remember.

Decide whether to use popular or unique names

A popular name is easy for people to spell, recognize and remember. However, your child may find it frustrating to share the same name with a number of people in one group. A unique name, on the other hand, creates recall and the story behind it may be the start of a conversation and making friends.

To help parents decide on baby names, various websites provide a list of possible names for baby girls and boys. The names are provided with meanings or origins. Popular names are also listed. Baby name books are also available in bookstores. With a variety of sources to research on, it has become easy and fun for parents to find a beautiful name to go with a beautiful child.<bio>Grunty's day care nursery is a long established Nursery School based in Blackpool.
Nowadays, fewer parents are naming their kids with traditional and classic names, trying to find a different, refreshing name for their child. Because of this, finding a really Unique baby name is becoming much harder.

These are some helpful tips that we think may help you find an unusual, yet comfortable name for your child.

Traditional (but Unique Baby Names): There are still the traditional ways of selecting your baby's name. The first, of course, is using a name that has been in the family for years - perhaps the name of an aunt or uncle, or a grandparent. The other way is to browse through the Baby Names Dictionarys' 28,000+ names to select from. Although some of the names are common, you can certainly find some unusual names.

Name meanings: To choose a unique name, you could decide on what you want your child's name to mean. Baby Names Dictionary has a resource where you can type in what you want your child's name to mean. From there, we will pull out a list of names, both popular and unusual, with that meaning.

Place names: A lot of parents nowadays are using this method to name their child. Some places actually make pretty good names, but because method is becoming popular, naming your child after the place she or he was born may not make a very uncommon name anymore. Places like Colorado, Phoenix, Denver or Salem are some popular names for boys. As for the girls, Paris, Vienna, Asia and Atlanta are some of the preferred names.

Names from nature: Words from nature are also a unique way of naming your kids. That way, the beauty of that word is in your child's name. How about something like Raine, Leaf, Sky or Dew?

Using a surname as a first name for unusual baby names: This is also another method of naming that is becoming more and more common. It means taking the surnames of your ancestors, famous people, or anyone of your choice and using it as a first name. Like for girls, some popular surnames used as first names are McCartney, Bronte, Liotta and Piper. For boys, Beckett, Addison, Brewster, Donovan and Jenson are popular.

Anagrams: Want a unique name for your child but there are a few traditional ones that you really like? Take that name and create an anagram of it. Use Scrabble tiles from the game and shift the letters or add a few more. Be creative. Let your imagination run wild.

Telescoping: Take the name and drop letters until you've found a name you like. Kahlil and Gibran can be combined and then telescoped to Kabran. Schuyler can be telescoped to become Sky. Get the picture?

>From the father's name: You can name your child after their father. For example, if the father's name is Donald, his son can be Doni or his daughter, Donnie. Or John. It can be changed to Joanie, Joanna or Jonalie.

>From the mother's name: Naming a boy after his mother's maiden name is one way of doing it. You could change the mother's name to a suitable name for a boy. Like Mary, you could alter it to Martin, Matt, Mason or Marren. Or if it's a girl you could name her Marii, Marinne or Marine.

Name or word combinations: This means a name taken from combining two other names; most of the time it's from the child's parents or grandparents. For instance, let's say a couple, Ridge and Brooke, have a baby girl. They could combine their names together and name her Bridgette. This may not be very unique, but you get the idea. A better example would be David and Trina. (Davina) This way, you get an unusual name for your child and at the same time, you can honor a family member.

Change the spelling: Make an ordinary name more unusual by changing the spelling. Like Caitlin, it can become CaitLin. You could change Rianne to RiAnne. Or, you also could add an apostrophe, and Janet becomes J'Nette/J'Net.

Unique names are fun, different and anything goes! Its only limitation is your imagination. Names are inspired from everywhere, from fashion designers to colors to months. June and April make nice names for girls. Azure, Gray and Burgundy are also great names. Countries or states like Dakota or Carolina are also used. But remember, with every pro, there's a con.

Names that are very complicated to pronounce or spell, although it makes them stand out, it also brings aggravation to your child because they would have to constantly correct the spelling or pronunciation for the rest of their life.

Oh yeah, and also, giving a boy a girl's name or vice versa is something you absolutely do not want to do. Imagine the amount of teasing he or she would get from their classmates. Not something you would want for your child, to be laughed at and teased. Howard O'Brien is now Anne Rice, author of the famous vampire books. She was given a boy's name because her folks wanted a boy!

Overall, unique names are not a bad thing. Just be kind to your kid and choose wisely. <bio>This article was taken from Baby Names Dictionary. What if I don't always know what to do? Will I be a good parent? If you are already asking yourself these questions, don't worry, you're already a good parent because you care enough to worry.

If you're like many soon-to-be parents, you probably own one or more books on baby names. Afterall, the name that you choose will be with your little one forever and you want to make sure it's a good fit. The first thing to look for in naming your child is a good flow with the first, middle and last name. In some instances, an infant is named after the mom, dad, grandparent or other close relative. It may help to research the meaning of names, which could later prove to be very significant in your child's life.

In planning for the new arrival of your baby, it's important to establish a nursery and furniture selection is essential to making this room a soothing and relaxing place for the newest addition to the family. You will need to choose a bassinet and, for those sleepless nights, a sturdy rocking chair. A changing table will also prove to be a very convenient accessory because it not only offers an easy to way to change diapers, but often features storage compartments for use in keeping your baby's essential changing materials nearby. Otherwise, you can place a drawer unit next to the table for easy storage and accessibility. A baby bathtub, stroller and diaper bag are also important items to include on your major shopping list.

Preparing for the arrival of your new baby is exciting, but it may also be exhausting. Many women are given a baby shower in celebration of the upcoming addition to their family. As the name implies, the mom-to-be is showered with baby gifts that are sure to make decorating the nursery a piece of cake.

When a couple experiences the joy of having a baby, they are often overcome with emotion. From fear and anxiety to happiness and pride, these are all normal feelings that simply mean they are preparing themselves for the best adventure of all - parenthood. <bio>http://www.red3enterprises.com/ </bio>

Have you ever had to participate in naming a baby? Parents naturally know the vast importance of a name. Have you ever met a mom-to-be that didn't fret over what she was going to call her child? She certainly has good reason to spend so much time coming up with the perfect name for Junior. After all, good and bad names can be forever. It's too bad many entrepreneurs don't spend as much time thinking through the name they will use for their business.

People naming businesses don't always understand the ramifications of picking the perfect name. Where parents spend countless hours and even sleepless nights picking their child's name, a business may be named in a few short minutes.

Comparing the two name choosing processes can lead to better business and product names. A business name, just like a person's name, sets the tone of the business. When choosing names you should limit the number of people involved in the process. You should also strive to find a name that is recognizable but unique while avoiding far-out, unpronounceable combinations. Like all good marketing endeavors, the rules of picking names, even my rules, are made to be broken.

Carefully Decide The Personallity Of Your Company Or Product First

Names set the tone for personality and they tend to be forever. If you go by the name Jonathan Edward Winthrop, III you are telling the world something about your personality. What would you immediately think of when you met someone with that kind of name? You are also telling people something about your personality if you tell people, andquot;just call me Jon.andquot; One name is stuffy and alludes to a rich and formal persona and the other is a fun loving andquot;normalandquot; guy. The name is the first indication of a person's personality. Business names are the first indication of the personality of a business too.

Jonathan Edward Winthrop, III versus Jon. One of these names is equivalent to naming a law firm and the other is the model name for a skate board shop. Think Apple Computers versus IBM. Get it? They are both great computers but one is know as the fun creative computer and one is know as the business computer. Basically they do the same things. So, before you even start picking names, decide on the personality you want your business to project.

Limit The Number Of Decision Makers

Parents are normally limited to two decision makers when picking names. Occasionally a mother-in-law or a andquot;helpfulandquot; friend gets involved in the process. A few men I've known left the naming decision completely up to their wives. You normally have two decision makers, at times three or more, and occasionally one. Which do you think is an easier and less painful process? No matter if you are naming a baby or a business; I'll guarantee the one person decision maker is the fastest and easiest path but also might not the perfect solution.

Just like working on a name with your spouse, in business you must find a decision making balance. I would try to get the owner or president, a creative type, and someone with some advertising knowledge involved. In the case of a one person start-up, you wear all those hats anyway, so lucky you, you are back to the one person decision; well unless you want to get your mother-in-law involved. Hey, she may be a creative type.

Don't Be Afraid To Make A Change Or Break Some Rules

Some people change their names when they reach adulthood. While making a change can be a wonderful experience, twenty, or more years of name recognition is lost. Think of all those family reunions where you would have to tell people, andquot; My name used to be...andquot; The same applies for a business. Can you imagine trying to change an established name like Starbucks? Then again, if your parents gave you a name like Hornbuckle, can you imagine not trying to make a change? People pick weird names for their kids and businesses everyday. You're sure to have seen a business name that not even a mother could pronounce.

Sometimes breaking the rules wins the game. A company name like Yahoo doesn't fit my rules, but the company is quite successful. If you choose to go the path of a Yahoo, be prepared to open your wallet and spend big bucks to heavily promote your company name. You will need to create name recognition for a name that means absolutely nothing to the general public.

When you decide to pick a name for your business, think of it like you are naming a child. After all, this growing business is your baby too. Spend a lot of time choosing your company name. If you're lucky, like your kids, your new company name will last longer than you. <bio>Philip Busk has managed and consulted in sales and marketing, business development, and internet business marketing.
Baby Name Meaning. Judging by the vast number of baby name websites, people take the subject of naming their baby very seriously, which is as it should be. After all, their name stays with them their whole life usually, so best get it right!

The problem is, if you choose your baby name according to the meaning given in a typical 'list of baby name meanings' or in a baby name book, you are not given the personality traits of that name, just a very brief general description, sometimes this can be just one word. For instance, look up the meaning of the name Emma, and you will be told this name means `all-containing' and `universal'. Look up the name Paul in these lists and most come back with the meaning 'small' or 'little'. Ok! You are none the wiser about your child-to-be based on that! My opinion is that the lists provide invaluable inspiration by giving you a wide choice of names, but that is all.

However there is a scientific system that used to be used in ancient Egyptian times and in Hebrew countries, for the naming of the Royal Children. This system ensured that they would be given positive names that would help them have a well-balanced life. This ancient system reveals the full personality traits of any name and also looks at the meaning of the individual letters of a name. According to this system, the letters in our name affect what happens to us in our lives, for better or worse, according to whether a letter is positive or negative.

With this system of Name Analysis you would learn that the name Paul indicates a love of justice, someone who will fight other people's battles. It also indicates relationship problems, and suggests a person with too much nervous energy. These are just a few of the many qualities indicated with the name Paul, to give you an idea about how names affect our personality.

The letter P in Paul indicates 7 years of power and success at various ages (these can be exactly pinpointed in an analysis reading) with the possibility of ruin and bankruptcy also with this letter if they are not careful with their finances. The letter U brings 3 years of emotional and/or financial losses every 11 years.

The letter E in Emma brings 5 years of extremes at certain ages, and the M's bring change, sometimes very sudden change.

Look up the name Harry on most lists and it will give the meaning as 'home ruler' or something similar. How does that help you decide if that is the right name for your baby?! According to the ancient system of name analysis, the name Harry totals a positive number that gives leadership ability, excellent communication skills, strength of character and determination. Ideal careers include the armed forces, which is interesting when you look at Prince Harry's current career path, in the army. (This is just a small selection of the traits of that name). Even more interesting is the fact that the name William totals the same number...

However, the letters in the name Harry are a bit of a mixture of negative and positive. The H brings 8 years of stress and strain at various ages (initially from birth up to the age of 8), the 2 R's indicate 18 years of being very busy, active, rushing around a lot (initially from the age of 9 till 27) and the Y indicates 7 years of success at various times, initially at the age of 27 to 34. So, if you are thinking about the name Harry for your baby, it is important that your surname has positive letters to counteract the negative letters in Harry.

So, as you can see, there is a lot more to baby name meanings than most people are aware of! The name you give your little one will have a massive impact =96 it will affect not only their personality but also it will determine the events in your child's life. <bio>I am a professional Name Analyst and do readings by email and post worldwide. http://www.babynameanalysis.com </bio>

We've all seen and heard those commercials on TV and radio spouting forth the glory and amazement that are name your own price plane tickets, but do any of us really know how they work? How can these travel sites (such as Priceline and Hotwire) allow travelers to name their own price on a plane ticket without going bankrupt? It just doesn't seem possible, or at least legit.

Name Your Own Price Plane Tickets - Legit, with Exceptions

The act of naming your own price for plane tickets is simply another form of bidding on airfare. Instead of the airlines setting the price, you do (the prospective purchaser). Travel sites that offer name your own price plane tickets partner with travel consolidators and the airlines to get deep discounts on travel tickets across the globe. They then put these discounted tickets up for auction, allowing the consumer to bid on the plane ticket and set his/her own price.

Of course, this form of ticket purchasing isn't as clear-cut as it may seem. Even though you can name your own price, it doesn't mean you actually get the ticket at that price. Since andquot;namingandquot; actually means andquot;biddingandquot;, someone else can andquot;nameandquot; a different price (a.k.a. bid a higher amount) and get the plane ticket out from under you. Remember, andquot;Name your own price for plane ticketsandquot; is just a fancy way of saying andquot;Bid on airfareandquot;.

Name Your Own Price Plane Tickets - Bidding with a Blind Fold On

The big catch with naming your own price on plane tickets is that in many cases you're bidding without knowing the exact airline or flight times. You know the day of the flight before you bid, but you won't know what airline you'll be flying or the flight times until AFTER you've won the auction. And once you've won the auction (by naming your own price on your ticket), you're locked in - you can't back out if you don't like your departure time (i.e. 3 a.m.). So basically, when you're naming your own price on a plane ticket, you're taking a gamble on when you're leaving, how many layovers you'll have (many andquot;name your own priceandquot; travel sites only offer flights that have multiple layovers), and what airline you'll be flying.

The Key to Name Your Own Price Plane Tickets- Be Flexible

The key to saving money and your sanity with name your own price plane tickets is to be as flexible as possible. You can find great deals on flights with andquot;name your own priceandquot; travel auction sites. You just have to be willing and ready to depart and arrive at weird hours and endure a few layovers. If you're a flexible traveler and don't care what airline you fly, bidding on airfare and naming your own price on plane tickets is your best bet for saving on your flight. <bio>cFares is the first choice thousands of knowledgeable travelers are using right now to save hundreds of dollars on low airfares.
You go to the store to purchase a baby monitor. All you know is that you want another way to ensure your baby's safety and having baby monitors will help you to do that. However, you start down the aisle with the baby monitors, and you are overwhelmed. Who knew that there were so many choices when it comes to baby monitors? Maybe I can help.

There are the simple, low priced baby monitors. This type of baby monitor has one unit that you set in the baby's room and one that you can take into another room of the house. The unit in the baby's room picks up any noise in the room and sends it to the other unit.

Then there is the baby monitor that also acts as a walkie-talkie system. Both units can send and receive. This type of monitor is more expensive than the simple baby monitors.

Another type of monitor is one that you can attach to the baby's crib. It is similar to the simple monitor in that the unit in the baby's room sends sound to the other monitor. The difference is that you can use a remote control to activate vibrations and soothing sounds on the baby's unit.

There is also the monitor that allows you see and hear your baby. You mount a camera in the baby's room and you can watch and listen to your baby from another location in the house. The camera and monitor are lightweight and can be moved easily.

In order to decide which baby monitor will best fit what you want and need you must consider a couple of things. You need to think about your budget. You also need to think about what your baby needs. Maybe your baby needs the soothing sounds monitor, or maybe s/he just needs to hear your voice. The most important thing is that any monitor that you buy will help you make sure that your baby is sleeping safe and sound in his/her room. <bio>Christine Loxley writes for http://www.babymonitorhut.com, a website packed with baby monitor information </bio>

Choosing a baby name is a fun yet potentially overwhelming experience. After all, you can't help but worry about how your child will be perceived based on his or her name. Whether we like it or not, there are certain reactions we all have when hearing certain names. For example, the name Bambi brings up images of an "airheaded" female, while the name Stewart may bring up images of a smart young boy. Despite all of your concerns, you don't have to worry about the name you select defining the personality of your child. Just follow these tips and you will be sure to come up with a great name.

Tip #1: Consider Family Names

One great way to come up with a name for your baby is to look into your family heritage and to use a name that is already found in your lineage. Perhaps you can name your child in honor of a favorite uncle or grandfather. Naming someone after a family member, whether still alive or deceased, is a great way to honor their memory.

Tip #2: Look at the Meaning of Names

There are many sites on the Internet that allow you to research names and to find out the meaning behind these names. Start doing a bit of research and you will likely find a name with a meaning that is special to you.

Tip #3: Check for Compatibility

After narrowing down your favorite names to just a few choices, check for the compatibility of that name with your last name. As a general rule, it is better to pick a shorter name if your last name is long or has many syllables. In addition, if your last name starts with a vowel, it is usually best to avoid a first name that ends in a vowel. First names that rhyme with last names is usually not a good idea and names that are puns, such as Candy Kane, should be avoided. Similarly, check the initials of the name to make sure they do not spell something that is unflattering or that could otherwise cause problems for the child as he or she is growing up. <bio>Find cool and unique baby names at http://www.namingforsuccess.com/ </bio>

It was a great relief for all of us since she had visited most of the doctors in town and none of them could assure her of bearing a child.

However, as I was very close to her right from her childhood days and she considered me to be her 'most nearest relation', I literally organized a search for some exclusive baby gifts for the baby shower. I was sure that both my niece and her husband must have bought all the gifts that were available locally, so my gifts must have some novelty and freshness about them.

But the local department stores and the shopping malls turned out to be most disappointing as they were full of age-old gift items that neither appealed to me nor my wife, who refused to have anything to do with them. On further enquiries at a different shopping arcade it was revealed that down another floor one section dealt with newborn baby gift items and we rushed there.

The sales person was a young girl and she was enthusiastic about some personalized products that came with the baby's name embroidered on it. There were various kind of bibs brightly embroidered with the baby's name; soft woolen baby blankets that not only had the names but date of birth, weight and dimensions at birth, etc. In short, we liked the innovative idea but were disenchanted since the shower was arranged prior to the child- birth and, therefore, no names could be provided instantly.

But as dark clouds do have silver linings on the western sky, we 'discovered' a small store that specialized in baby gifts that suited our purpose. Here they offered similar personalized items like the baby's name engraved on the gifts with a big difference. They had the seamstress on the premises that could do the engraving in about a day at a nominal charge, to be paid in advance.

This was quite satisfactory as the store provided a call card bearing the name of the shop, postal address and telephone number to be filled in by the purchaser or anyone else on his or her behalf. A telephonic communication, they assured us, would be enough to do the job. Happy at being able to locate the right place, we bought several of the special baby gifts that included a baby blanket that could have the baby's personal information embroidered on it, a sparkling photo frame that had room to engrave the baby's name and a niche to frame the birth certificate.

I was sure when we got back home that both my niece and her husband would admire the novelty of our gifts and my niece could phone the shop as soon as the naming was over. <bio>For more information about gifts for babies, and others please visit our website at http://www.giftsforeachoccasion.com </bio>
