Are muscular abs your goal, or would you prefer to settle for firm flat abs instead? I know that personally speaking I started out with the goal of getting muscular abs, but as time passed by and I went through the motions of getting my muscular abs, I slowly changed my mind. Now, instead of wanting muscular abs, I have decided to settle for firm flat abs instead. There is a hint of a six pack lurking around to be seen, but for the most part, my abs are not muscular, they are flat and firm.

What changed my mind? Well, a lot of things really, but this is not about me. This is a personal choice that you need to make and one that you will need to make soon enough when you reach that stage where you can either progress forwards with even more intensity and focus on getting muscular abs, or you can stay where you are and be content to keep the new shape that you have worked so hard to get.

What about you though? Where would you draw the line? Would you go in for firmer flatter abs than you have now, or would you push on striving to get muscular abs instead? Obviously you will need to be aware of the facts and things, and how you feel at the time, but in general, if you are not very fond of exercising (and I wasn't and in fact, still am not), then you might find that going beyond the realm of firm flat abs is beyond you.

To get muscular abs you need to do so much more than if you only wanted firmer flatter abs. You will need to change your diet around almost completely so that you body has the proper nutrition it needs to help develop and keep, those muscular abs you want. You will have to cut down, or cut back completely on things like processed and sugary foods, empty calorie foods, alcohols and other things like grease laden meals from the diner around the corner.

Another thing that you will need to take into account, is that you will need to exercise more, not more frequently, but with more intensity in your workout than otherwise. As you can see in order to get the muscular abs you want, you will not only need to stay fit and work out more, but you will also need to watch what you eat. And after you weigh everything up, you can then decide whether you want to go in for muscular abs or not, at which point you will know exactly what you want of course. <bio>http://www.healtharticles-lk.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com </bio>

As you age, you start collecting tons of little aches and pains you didn't have when you were younger. Are you wondering just how bad it's going to be when your reach, say, seventy-five or so? Backaches and neck pain are especially common; my mother is continually complaining that her back hurts. Given my luck, I'll probably have the same types of aches and pains when I reach her age. In any event, I've decided to be proactive and find ways around having a backache for the rest of my life.

I know there are perfectly good treatments out there and I'm ready to go for it and get some relief. How about you? Do you suffer from joint pain, hip or lower back pain? If so, are you ready to do something to be pain-free forever? Think about what types of treatments or therapies available to you that may help rid your body of pain from this moment on.

The first step is to find a reasonably-priced and effective low back pain or joint treatment. How exactly do you accomplish this? If back pain seems to be the biggest problem you have, consider seeking the advice of a chiropractor. If you don't have one already, getting set up with one is a good idea. As you age, aches and pains are inevitable so you may as well be proactive about it.

Chiropractors are specialists in bones and joints and they understand how the body works, especially the skeleton, including the spine, and the ligaments and muscles. I know a chiropractor who treats both young and old for back and neck pain. He says that many of us wake up with pains in the back and neck and that most of the problem has to do with our poor postures, the type of bed you sleep on, your pillow and the type of shoes you wear.

These are things you can easily fix and if they don't work, you can see the chiropractor to treat your pain. In some cases, however, it's not a matter of a simple ache or pain. Some people, however, suffer from serious injuries and need more intensive treatment like surgery and medications.

Acupuncture is a type of back pain therapy that is really gaining in popularity lately. A form of treatment originating in China, acupuncture involves the insertion of needles in various parts of the body in order to heal pain and cure disease. Backaches and other muscular pains respond very well to acupuncture, when done properly.

While this is a type of therapy used for many conditions, back, neck and muscular pain are conditions that are particularly suitable for acupuncture. If you're interested in finding someone who does acupuncture near you or who treats back pain in your area, go on the Internet and do a search for acupuncture or low back pain. Do your homework to find the right treatment for you. You don't have to suffer forever with pain your whole life. <bio>Read more from Joe Goertz at: http://www.myhealth-magazine.com </bio>

Trying to do sit ups with neck injury or worse, is probably not one of the best things that you can do. In fact, trying to sit ups with neck injury is a sure fire way for you to trigger or aggravate even more health problems or neck and other bodily pains.

The best way for you to do sit ups is only when you are feeling fit and when you don't have any strains or pains in the neck, shoulder, or back area, or indeed any other part of your body. All forms of exercise should be undertaken with caution, and if you know that you are suffering from, or are prone to strain your neck or even your back, you should ideally stay away from doing sit ups, or better yet, learn how to do sit ups using the proper form and technique.

In fact, unless and until you learn how to do sit ups in the proper manner there's a more than good chance that you will get neck injuries or worse. This is true no matter what type of shape you are in when you decide to do sit ups. It is all too easy to do sit ups and use all the wrong muscles to help get your abs into shape, this is where you will find that you are doing sit ups with neck injury, sometimes without even knowing about it.

To stop this, and to get a better handle on how sit ups are really done, you should ideally consult with a fitness trainer, or someone who is qualified in these matters, to help you learn how to do them. You will find that once you know how to do sit ups properly, and how to make the most use out of your ab muscles to do the sit ups, that you are getting better results than when you were doing sit ups in correctly.

And if you know that you suffer from, or you are recovering from a neck injury, then avoid doing sit ups, or find a piece of exercise equipment that will support your neck while you are doing sit ups. Free-style sit ups are not everyone's forte and you might be better off doing your sit ups aided by a piece of exercise equipment that will take the strain from your exercising, but which will still give you the workout you need. Just remember to be careful, no matter what you're doing. <bio>http://www.healtharticles-lk.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com </bio>

For thousands of people all over the world sit at a desk at their workplace and work for hours together.Back and neck pain is a common complaint associated with this kind of work. The primary reason for getting such pain is due to unnatural posture of the body that is maintained for hours together.

Before the advent of the computer, this problem was not quite as pronounced as it is today. Our forefathers did not have such problems as they were not confined to their desks for long periods. Thus, for us modern day desk hands, having a computer screen in front of us with a keyboard to type on, there are certain methods to be employed stay away from back and neck pain.

The first thing to avoid back and neck pain is to have a proper chair which should maintain neck and head in a proper position while looking at the computer screen. You should at least have a chair with arms to support your elbows, and which help in supporting your neck as well. Many people choose ergonomically designed chairs that will be sure to prevent back and neck pain.

There is also other special equipment that can be used to minimize back and neck pain that can be availed of and which only needs you to contact a health service. You would also need to have a small foot rest that helps in elevating your legs and thus ensures that your body remains at an ideal ninety degree angle that will certainly go a long way in relieving your back and neck pain from starting. And, if you also consciously make an effort not to wear shoes with heels, you would get further relief from this debilitating condition.

It is also possible to prevent back and neck pain by keeping your computer monitor at an angle and distance so that you do not have to look up at it while working on your computer, as it can result in severe neck tension, especially when you are constantly craning your neck to look up at the screen. You would also do well to get up once in a while and walk about throughout the day as it will bring relief to your back as well as neck, and it helps readjust your body and provides a welcome break from constantly sitting in the same and rigid position for long periods of time.

For more Information Please check http://www.arthritisreliefhelp.info <bio>Roger Thompson writes articles on arthritis and pain relief for http://arthritisrelief.info </bio>

Neck arthritis, which is otherwise called cervical spondylosis, is a type of arthritis which is caused by degenerative changes in the bones and the intervertebral disks of the neck. It is primarily due to aging, as although there are other contributing factors as well, the condition usually presents itself after the age of 40 and then continues to process on from there.

With neck arthritis, the bones in the neck, as with the rest of the body, progressively degenerate as your body ages, and over time, arthritis of the neck may result from bony spurs and problems with ligaments and disks. As well, the spinal cord may end up narrowing and compressing the spinal cord and nerves, and injuries from neck arthritis can in fact cause full spinal cord compression.

There are a number of signs and symptoms that you are likely to notice from the onset of neck arthritis, and this includes: neck pain and stiffness that is usually worse with upright activity, you may have numbness and weakness in the arms, legs, hands and fingers and have trouble walking due to all over weakness, you may feel or hear grinding noises or popping in the neck when you move. you may experience muscle spasms or headaches which will typically originate in the neck area.

When it comes to the treatment of neck arthritis, most of the time, if your symptoms are mild, your doctor will most likely recommend a variety of non-surgical treatments such as rest and medication. However if your arthritis is very advanced or incredibly painful, they may opt to go for more serious forms of treatments.

Remember that different forms of treatment work differently from one person to the next, and so what works great for one person may not have any affect at all on you. This is why you may have to try out a few different options before you can settle on one specific one.

The most important thing is that you keep on top of your health and that you make sure to watch out for any signs or symptoms of arthritis, not only in your neck but over your entire body. Arthritis is, after all, one of the most common diseases worldwide, and although it can be treated, the pain and discomfort that is caused by it is incredibly severe.

Make sure that you get in for regular checkups with your doctor, so that together you can make sure that you are always top notch when it comes to your health.

For more information check http://www.arthritisreliefhelp.info <bio>Roger Thompson writes articles on arthritis and pain relief for http://arthritisrelief.info </bio>

There are many different kinds of headaches, varying in severity. However, the most common type of headache is a tension headache, also known as a muscle contraction headache. These types of headaches are caused by spasms and tensions of muscles in the neck and shoulders, making "neck spasm headache" an accurate description of a tension headache.

While tension headaches are extremely common (sixty percent of people in a study claimed to experience one or more tension headaches in a week), they are difficult to diagnose and treat. It is important to understand the various ways that a neck spasm headache can be treated so that, if you suffer from these painful headaches, you can decide on the method of treatment that best fits your individual lifestyle and condition.

What Causes a Neck Spasm Headache?

A neck spasm headache or tension headache is caused by muscle spasms in the neck and shoulders that irritate nerves in the head. The irritated nerves generally produce pain at the scalp and base of the skull. You might be wondering what causes muscle spasms. Well, there is a wide range of causes for muscle spasms and they vary greatly in severity. One cause of muscle spasms leading to a neck spasm headache is a rear end motor vehicle accident.

This is one of the more serious causes of a muscle spasm. Such an accident places a large amount of force on the neck, and the muscles located in the neck tighten in response to the pressure. The neck muscles can remain in spasm long after other injuries have healed, and this is why a neck spasm headache resulting from a car accident many become chronic.

Less serious causes of the muscle spasms in the neck that could lead to a neck spasm headache include situations where the neck or spine may be held in one position for too long, such as when you sleep in a chair, work at a computer, or drive for a long period of time.

Treatment of a Neck Spasm Headache

There are several different methods used to treat a neck spasm headache. One of the more common ways is manipulative therapy, which usually reduces the muscle spasms and will return normal motion to the spine. Manipulative therapy is often performed by quickly stretching the muscles. However, other methods of manipulative therapy, such as "counter-strain" also exist. Manipulative therapy is a great treatment option for those patients who do not want to take medication. <bio>Ann Marier writes informative articles about family life and general health issues, Her lastest are about headaches.
What is On-site massage

On-site massage is a relaxing massage therapy specifically designed for the work place. Though this therapy originated quite recently in the Silicone Valley, USA, it is based on the principles of an ancient Japanese massage technique called "Anma". The popularity of on-site massage in the corporate sector has been steadily growing in the recent years. This invigorating massage therapy totally de-stresses the body and refreshes the mind with a minimum of fuss, and best of all, it achieves all of this while you are still at work.

How does On-site massage work

On-site massage is carried out with the client fully clothed and sitting in a specially designed chair. No oils or creams are used during this massage therapy. The massage therapist uses his or her hands and elbows to stimulate over a hundred specific pressure points on the head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands and back. This sequence of massage improves the flow of energy throughout the body and stimulates the functioning of the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. It also reduces muscle tension in the upper body, especially the neck and shoulder regions. A typical massage session could last from anywhere between five to twenty minutes.

On-site massage works in two ways. First the gentle massage reduces the build-up of tension in muscles that are commonly used while sitting and working at a desk. The dissipation of all this tension which is accumulated in the neck, shoulders and back leaves the client feeling very relaxed. The therapist then stimulates the pressure points to improve the functioning of the various organ systems of the body. This has an invigorating effect on the body and the mind.

Benefits of On-site massage

On-site massage has a dual benefit. It not only benefits the person receiving the massage, but also benefits the employer that has arranged for this session of on-site massage at his or her workplace. Let us see how this happens.

Benefits to the employees

On-site massage addresses all the symptoms associated with spending long hours working at your desk. It provides relief from head, neck and back aches, relieves stress and muscular tension, improves concentration and mental alertness, relieves eyestrain, and reduces migraines. In addition to providing relief from these stress related symptoms, on-site massage also improves the functioning of the body by stimulating the vital pressure points. It has been proven to be especially useful in the treatment of conditions such as sciatica, lower back pain, whiplash injuries, arthritis, tennis elbow, pre-natal pains and menstrual disorders.

Benefits to the employers

You already pay your employees enough. So why should you invest some more money to give them massages, when they should be working? Well, the statistics speak for themselves. On-site massage benefits the organization and the employer by increasing the productivity of the employees. The equation is simple. If your employees are stress-free they will be able to work harder for you and thereby increase the profitability of your organization. On-site massage helps to boost the morale of your staff and results in greater creativity and input on their part. Most important of all, it shows your employees that you care about their well-being. This results in increased staff loyalty towards the organization and towards you. <bio>Sharon Hopkins, Webmaster for http://www.massagehealththerapy.com, your online guide to a relaxing experience by artistic hand strokes on the body.
A sagging neck is something that comes with age, but there are of course, other factors that can make your skin neck look older before your time. Neck skin care is very important if you want to avoid a double chin and a turkey neck. The sooner you start the better, although is never too late to start taking care of yourself and your neck skin.

The main causes of a sagging neck are:

1 - Solar exposition - Excess of sunbathing dry the skin, destroy collagen and elastin fibers, giving less elasticity to the skin neck.

2 - Being overweight - When you are overweight is easier to accumulate fat under the chin, which will give you a double chin.

3 - Bad food habits - The consumption of foods such as sausages, cakes, biscuits, canned food, food rich in fat, sugar and sodium should be avoided or reduced. Eating this foods could provoke swelling to your body and neck. Is better to eat fresh fruits and vegetables and to drink at least six glasses of water every day.

4- Genetics- If there is a tendency to have a sagging neck in your family is time to start a good neck skin care regime.

Neck Skin Care Solutions

It is very important to give the same care and attention that you give to your face to your neck, because neck skin is thinner and more fragile.

1 - Use a moisturizer during the day and a nutritive during the night. You could use the same cream that you apply to your face, but there are some really good neck skin care products in the market. Specially effective to delay or diminish wrinkles neck are cosmetics that include retinol or vitamin c. There are other specific cosmetics that will help to tighten or lift the neck. Apply the products with a massage to activate blood circulation and stimulate cellular renovation.

2 - Use an exfoliator once a week and apply a moisturizing mask after.

3 - Always use sunscreen with high SPF, even in cloudy days.

4 - To conceal a double chin with make up, apply dark loose powder from the base of the chin to the end of the neck.

Neck Skin Care: Simple Neck Exercises

Apart from following the advice given before, you can do this effective and simple neck exercises to tone the neck

1 - Pronounce all the vowels, from A to U in an exaggerated manner without closing the mouth in any moment. Repeat several times a day.

2 -Pull down the sides of your mouth until you notice that the neck muscles are tight or tense. Repeat several times a day.

3 - Place your hands over the neck and pull the skin down. In this position tilt the head backwards and come back to the original position. Repeat forty times, three times a day.

Nutritive Mask for the Neck

You will need half glass of fresh cream, one boiled carrot, one mashed avocado and three spoons of honey.

Mix all the ingredients until consistent. Apply in the neck and leave it on for about fifteen minutes. Rinse off with warm water and apply a moisturizer. <bio>If are you interested in finding out which are the best sellers anti aging skin products and why, please visit http://www.anti-aging-skin-care-guide.com/best-sellers-anti-aging-skin-care= -products.html

You can also find out the "why" and "how" of aging skin here http://www.anti-aging-skin-care-guide.com/aging-skin.html </bio>

Unfortunately, anxiety is more than just a pain in the neck. Head and neck pains caused by anxiety can be a truly debilitating situation and what is worse than that is the fact that it is self inflicted. Of course, no one really wants to experience pain, especially the type of pain associated with head and neck pains associated with anxiety.

People who suffer from anxiety induced head and neck pains feel a constant ache in their neck with their nerves on end as well as a vice grip like hold on their heads. This sort of head and neck pain can go on for long periods of time without reprieve and will not go away with normal pain relievers because pain relievers subdue pain, not anxiety.

The reason that it is said that head and neck pains that result from anxiety are self inflicted because this is a classic case of a psycho somatic occasion where a mental state of mind has manifested itself physically. This is actually a natural way for the body to inform the mind if things that otherwise may stay in the subconscious. Perhaps, we are not aware that we are anxious or over indulging in a lifestyle that is prone to anxiety. The head and neck pain that result from anxiety alerts us to this fact so that we can do something about it set ourselves free from the physical as well as mental anguish.

An old wise saying says that, andquot;anxiety is a payment in advance for a debt we may never oweandquot;. We need to keep this adage in mind in instances where we tend to get agitated and anxious. To the person who is anxious, it may seem that anxiety, worry and stress are a natural reaction to stimuli but that need not be the case; unless one enjoys the stress compounded by severe head and neck pains.

Individuals who find themselves victims of head and neck pain from anxiety need to wake up to the realization that they will need to manage their stress and anxiety to be able to manage their physical pain. Do not put yourself I situations that will merit stress and challenge your peace of mind.

For sure, there will be things in life that will not go our way and cause us a huge amount of anxiety if we allow it. But the truth is simple. We are responsible for how we feel and decide how to act to given stimuli. We all know that life will constantly throw challenges our way and we will find ourselves in instances where it is impossible not to get stressed. However, we have the power to manage our stress levels and choose peace of mind rather than dwelling on stress. <bio>Low Jeremy maintains http://Headache.ArticlesForReprint.com.
What is Neck and Shoulder Massage

The neck and the back are the most common areas of the body that are prone to stiffness and accumulated tension. Continuous build up of stress and tension in the neck and shoulder region lead to stiff necks, aching shoulders and headaches .Desk jobs, long working hours and incorrect sitting position may all add to a discomforting neck and shoulder.

A Neck and shoulder massage is primarily done to relieve the tension and stress around the neck and shoulder area. The importance of the neck and shoulder region lies in the fact that the neck is a flexible structure that connects the brain to the rest of the body. Tension in this important part of the body invariably causes overall discomfiture and slackness.

Moreover, anxiety and monotonous posture severely reduces the usual 360 degree mobility of the neck and shoulder. A neck and shoulder massage can eliminate stress and relieve the neck and shoulder of any signs of discomfort.

A neck and shoulder massage can be either rendered by self or by a professional therapist. This type of massage can be given either in a seated or lying down position. If traditional massage is considered expensive and time taking one can also check the latest electronic neck and shoulder massagers that may provide some beneficial results.

Neck and Shoulder Massage Techniques

Here is a compilation of neck and shoulder massage methods that can be administered by using self massage techniques or simple techniques one can administer for others:

Self Massage Techniques

For the Shoulder:

• Squeeze and knead one shoulder firmly with the opposite hand, then change sides and repeat.

• Apply either the Jojoba or Massage Oil directly on the skin to ensure smooth, frictionless movements.

Techniques to give others a quick massage for the Shoulder:

• Ask the person to lie sideways, with a pillow for head support and the top leg bending forward for steadiness

• Gently massage the arm and the side of the neck

• Hold the shoulder with both hands and gently move the shoulder up and down, then forward and backward.

• As the shoulder and arm relaxes it gets heavier, now start making circular movements with the fingertips under the shoulder blade to release tension.

• Replace the arm and effleurage and repeat with the other arm.

Self Massage For the Neck I:

• Hold the back of the neck with one hand and squeeze firmly to ease muscle tension.

• Shrug the shoulders and bring them up close to your ears.

• Hold the shoulders in this position and count up to 5 and release.

• Relax the shoulders down and feel the tension drain away.

• Repeat this exercise two more times.

Self Massage For the Neck II:

• Clasp the hands together and place them on the back of the neck.

• Squeeze hands together and press gently.

• Breathe deeply as you enjoy the stretch.

Self Massage For the Neck III:

• Using one hand, move the fingers in a circular motion on the neck on one side of the spine.

• Apply deep pressure one feels accumulated tension in this area.

• Repeat on the other side using the other hand.

• Breathe deeply and slowly to maximize the benefits of the neck and shoulder massage.

Benefits of Neck and Shoulder Massage

Here are some known benefits of a neck and shoulder massage:

• Massage brings renewed mobility in the neck and shoulder region.

• Alleviates stiff neck and/or shoulder muscles and promotes flexibility.

• Improved blood circulation and overall feeling of well being.

• Neck and shoulder massage relieves pain and stress.

• Relaxes and soothes the mind and body. <bio>Sharon Hopkins authors web content for http://www.massagehealththerapy.com, which uses artistic hand strokes to rejuvenate and revitalize you.
There are plentiful factors which are responsible for back and neck pain and sometimes the worst pain does not involve the worst conditions. Anything from a simple sprain to a herniated disk can be uncomfortable with muscle spasm in the back and neck often presenting pain so severe the victims cannot stroll or position up instantly. In other cases of people with a disk incompatible or even those with degenerative spinal column ailment or any infection may feel little or no pain.

Can You Be Liberated From Back And Neck Pain?

Muscle potency and elasticity are important to reducing the incidences of back and neck pain and habitual exercise can keep them from becoming inflexible. It is this rigidity, when activities are made out of the normal that causes back and neck pain. If you can understand how the muscles work in back and neck and what needs to be done to prevent any spasm or injury, can help make them strong enough to stay away from pain.

Maintain Proper Posture Of your Neck and Back

If you work behind a desk or computer all day long, chances are it contributes to your back and neck pain. A solution to this problem is that use a chair wit proper back and neck rest so that strain to these muscles can be minimized. By standing and stretching for just a few seconds every hour and taking a walk during your lunch break, you are providing yourself with the key for reducing back and neck pain.

Use a Foot Rest

Another therapy you can try is to stand with one foot on a small stool. Interchange your feet after every five to fifteen minutes while keeping your back and neck straight and your head and hips aligned correctly. This will help you to relieve back and neck pain by keeping the pressure off your back and neck and will help you if you have to stand for long periods of time. These are few things that you can do at home or office to help relieve that pain. However, before you try anything, make sure you discuss the techniques with your doctor to make sure you aren't doing more damage than good.

Except properly trained, these muscle groups will grow feeble with age and lack of use and intense therapy may be needed to end back and neck pain. By working the muscles properly on a steady root, they can be strengthened, helping the spine remain straight and pain free. When a person suffers from pain, the usual reaction is to not use the muscles, because it hurts. This will cause them to weaken and be unable to support the spine in a neutral position.

No matter what option you choose, make yourself sure that you intend to beat at the very root cause of the back and neck pain, which might even mean having to reduce weight, strengthening your muscles and also maintaining the correct posture and positions especially when standing, sitting as well as when sleeping. <bio>You can also find more info on http://www.backpainreliefhelp.com/Back_Pain_Medication on back pain treatment and http://www.backpainreliefhelp.com/Back_Pain_Relief on pain relief. http://Backpainreliefhelp.com is a comprehensive resource to help in Back Pain Relief. </bio>

Some guitars will just NOT adjust properly with the standard methods available like the bridge saddles, nut filing adjustments and the ability to set the bow (or lack thereof) of the neck itself. Adding <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/shims" rel="tag">shims to the bolt on neck may be necessary to get the guitar to play properly at all locations up and down the neck.

A nut shim acts as a spacer between the nut and neck raising and lowering the distance between all of the strings at the lower end of the guitar, starting at fret 1 and moving towards the body of the guitar.

A neck pocket shim acts as a spacer between the neck and body, changing the angle from which the neck protrudes out away from the body.

Try to imagine the strings of your guitar as a flat plane and the fret board as a parallel plane running underneath them. The angle of the top plane which contains the strings is controlled by the position of the tremolo and the nut. The angle of the lower plane which is the fret board is controlled by the neck pocket of the body.

If your setup is perfect these two planes will have an equal distance between them at any point. If your guitar doesn't look this way try adjusting the height of the tremolo itself first. This will usually take care of the problem unless you find your action becoming too high or to low equally across the length of the fret board. If adjusting the height of the tremolo corrects the problem but leaves you with too high or low of an action (distance between the strings and fret board) then you will need to resort to using a shim. You may want to "block" the tremolo before you start the shimming operation.

Shims can be found and used in two different areas of the neck. One is under the nut and the other is directly under the heel in the neck pocket of the body.

Nut shims are usually made out of one or more thin sheets of brass. Shims located in the neck pocket are usually made out of a thin piece of wood. In either case you can produce your own shim if needed by using a sheet of heavy stock paper such as a business card. For shims in the neck pocket you might need to fold the paper stock 3-4 times to get the required thickness needed, then trim to fit properly.

First determine if the distance between the strings and fret board is to close right up against the nut itself. If this is the case then add a shim under the nut and raise the tremolo by adjusting the tremolo posts until the strings are an equal distance from the fret board down the entire length of the neck. If the distance between the strings and the fret board located right up against the nut is OK then you will have to place a shim in the neck pocket to correct your problem as directed below.

If your strings are higher on the Low E side, place the shim in the neck pocket under the heel of the neck and parallel with the length of the neck on the Low E side, which raises the entire neck down the Low E side when it is bolted on. Before doing this check the angle of the tremolo to make sure it is flat against the body and not floating at an angle.

If your strings are higher on the High E side do the opposite, as explained above, by placing the shim parallel to the neck on the High E side in the neck pocket. Again before doing this check the angle of the tremolo to make sure it is flat against the body and not floating at an angle.

If your strings become higher the closer they are to the body place the shim across the neck pocket in the end closest to the neck pickup. This will turn the other end of the neck pocket into a fulcrum point and move the head stock towards the back of the body lowering the strings over the high end frets.

If your strings become lower across the high end frets place the shim across the end of the neck pocket furthest away from the neck pickup. This will raise the headstock away from the back of the body, raising the strings up from the end of the fret board, closest to the body.

In some instances you might find that you need the shim to raise only one corner of the two planes as described above. In these rare cases, make a smaller shim and place it in the appropriate area of the neck pocket. Of course upon removing the nut from the neck or the neck from the body, if you find a shim already there determine what action it was doing in the first place then make the necessary corrections.

Shimming a guitar neck is definitely an ART. However, if you look at it scientifically, as angles against a plane, you can understand the "how and why" of adjusting a guitar neck this way. <bio>Michael Grainger is a music studio owner and has vast experience setting up guitars for his customers.
Overview:

Botulinium Toxin (popularly known as Botox) is a purified toxin or poison that is used in very small amounts to paralyze the muscles to treat wrinkles. Botulinium Toxin is mainly used to treat lines near the eyes, forehead, neckbands etc. Botulinium Toxin can change the appearance in a short time with very little discomfort. Lets find out how a toxin is used medically to give a youthful look.

What Is Botulinium Toxin?

Botulinium Toxin is a toxin. This toxin is produced by bacteria most commonly known to cause a type of food poisoning- botulism. If you take Botulinium Toxin orally, all your muscles will get paralyzed. This toxin is purified and injected in very small quantities to paralyze or relax the muscles that have deep wrinkles in them.

Types Of Wrinkles Treated By Botulinium Toxin:

This toxin is mainly used to treat the wrinkles called crows feet near the eyes- the vertical lines between the eyebrows and on the bridge of the nose. Sometimes, it is also used to remove the muscle bands on the neck.

Botulinium Toxin injections are not for pregnant women or breast-feeding women. They are also not to be given to anyone with neurological disorders. Before getting injections in your neck to remove the muscular bands, discuss the details with your doctor.

To understand how Botulinium Toxin works, it is important to know how the lines and wrinkles form. Imagine exercising any part of your body. The muscles will gradually become stronger in that part. Similarly, when we make a facial expression, the muscles form lines and the more we use that expression, the more the lines get stronger. After many years, the lines become permanent. With a botulinium toxin injection, the muscles get relaxed and don't show any lines. The paralysis of muscles is used to relax the muscles totally and treat the lines and wrinkles. It is difficult to treat the laugh lines around the mouth, because the muscles are used for important functions such as eating.

Procedure Of Botulinium Toxin:

In this procedure, the doctor injects a tiny amount of Botulinium Toxin in the muscles. You will have to keep your head straight for about four hours; otherwise the toxin may spread to surrounding muscles. The toxin takes up to two weeks to show effect and the process may need repetition after three to six months. The pain involved is only of the injection and the procedure does not take much time. With repeated injections, the muscles get relaxed forever and after some time you may not need the injections.

Botulinum Toxin- facts

1. Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscles where it is injected by paralyzing it.

2. Botulinum toxin cannot be taken orally. If taken orally, it can paralyze the muscles of the body.

3. Botulinum toxin injections are used to treat lines and wrinkles that are formed because of constant muscular tension and subsequent line formation, for example, the lines on the forehead above the bridge of the nose.

4. Botulinum toxin injections have to be repeated after some days. After few repetitions, the problem may disappear and you need not take any more injections.

5. Botulinum toxin should not be taken near the mouth. It may create problems for you while eating. <bio>Social network users, go to http://www.wishafriend.com/ac/ for myspace comments and http://www.wishafriend.com/graphics/ for myspace graphics.
You've probably heard, or uttered, those words. Doctors hear them often. Back pain is one of the most common complaints in medical practice.

Causes of Neck and Back Pain

What would cause a sharp searing pain on my right back side? What causes upper back shoulder pain and neck pain? What causes neck and back pain?

These are but a few of the questions asked by millions who suffer back pain each year -- about 6 million in the U.S. alone. An estimated 80% of us will experience back pain sometime in our lives. It may occur by itself, or be accompanied by other symptoms such as fever and chills.

The causes of back pain are many, making diagnosis difficult and critical. We recommend that you see your doctor for all back pain. Most causes of back pain involve no serious underlying problem, and the pain can be relieved in a few days or weeks. If the causes of back pain you experience involve other symptoms, the tips offered here are not to be followed without medical advice.

Causes of Back Pain in the Lower Back

Low back pain affects the lower part of your back -- between the bottom of your ribs in back down to the top of your legs.

Doctors break down low back pain into three categories according to how long you have had it:

1. Acute Low Back Pain -- you have had it less than 6 weeks 2. Sub-acute Low Back Pain -- you have had it 6 to 12 weeks 3. Chronic Low Back Pain -- you have had it longer than 3 months

Causes of back pain in the lower back are most often linked to strain of back muscles, ligaments, or tendons. Sometimes the cushion between the bones is strained. Sometimes you will know the exact causes of back pain in your lower back. Other times, it may hit without warning.

Causes of back pain in the lower back include:

* past injuries that are not fully healed * incorrect lifting techniques * incorrect posture * little exercise * vehicular accidents * improper setup of your work area * long hours at a desk * long hours by the TV * obesity * pregnancy

Causes of Back Pain in the Mid Back

The causes of back pain in the mid back usually fall into the category of irritation or injury to muscles and ligaments of your middle spine -- the area along the backs of your ribs.

Some or all of the following may be causes of back pain in your mid back:

* past injuries that are not fully healed * incorrect lifting techniques * incorrect posture * little exercise * vehicular accidents * improper setup of your work area * long hours at a desk * long hours by the TV * obesity * pregnancy

Causes of Back Pain in the Upper Back and Neck

Some people refer to this as upper back shoulder pain and neck pain. This pain is felt in the area between the back of your chest and the base of your skull.

Causes of back pain in your upper back, unrelated to the shoulders and neck, are usually muscular irritation and joint dysfunction.

Shoulder and neck pain are more common than pain in the center of your upper back. Your neck supports your head. Made of seven, stacked vertebrae bones that are cushioned by cartilage discs bound together with ligaments, your neck is very mobile. Muscles provide movement and support to your neck.

Your neck is more susceptible to injury than the rest of your upper back. Trauma, poor posture, and degenerative diseases such as arthritis, are the most common causes of back pain in the neck area. Whiplash is another cause of back pain in the neck.

If you were a vehicle passenger involved in a rear end collision, you may have suffered whiplash injury to your neck. The impact of the collision would force your head back and then forward at a great speed. This would stretch your neck and upper back too much and too quickly, resulting in a strain or tear to supporting ligaments, muscles and discs. It could even irritate your upper back nerves.

Your shoulder is a ball and socket joint that offers a large range of movement. Like your neck, this mobile joint tends to be more susceptible to injury. Your shoulder joints depend on shoulder muscles to keep them stable. Causes of back pain in the shoulder area usually involve these muscles.

Incorrect posture can cause both neck and shoulder pain.

* Standing with your shoulders slouching, chin jutting forward, can put extra strain on your ligaments and muscles. * Sitting with your head down for long periods of time as you work at a desk or read can exert similar strain. * Slumping in your seat is another cause of shoulder and neck pain. * If you tend to sleep on your stomach, your sleeping posture could be the cause of back pain.

Other Causes of Back Pain

As shown above, causes of back pain are most often linked to strain of back muscles, ligaments, or tendons. There are many conditions other than strain, however, that can cause back pain. Below is a partial list:

* Arthritis -- causing joint inflammation * Herniated disc -- irritating nearby nerves * Spinal stenosis -- spinal canal narrowing that compresses nerves * Spondylolisthesis -- slipped vertebrae resulting in pinched nerves * Vertebral fractures -- resulting from trauma or osteoporosis * Degenerative disc disease -- aging process that breaks down discs

Whatever the causes of back pain, the most effective prevention is to overcome incorrect posture and incorrect lifting techniques. <bio>©2007, Anna Hart.
For a music aficionado, the electric guitar is the instrument that offers the greatest thrill. Many classes offering courses in guitar playing have sprung up. Hence purchasing the right electric guitar will help you to enjoy your learning experience. Here are some easy to understand tips that will enable you to make a correct decision in purchasing your electric guitar.

Are all the guitars the same?

No. There are many types of electric guitars available in the market. The right guitar depends on the sound that you are interested in. While some guitars can easily switch between jazz, blues and rock without any perceptible difference, the others cater to only one type of sound. Choosing the sound that you want will simplify your purchase decision. Besides, the sound you also need to take into account the location of the neck on the guitar. The two most common types of positions are the "set-neck" and the "bolt-on" necks. The set-neck allows you to keep on playing longer than bolt-on. The meeting point of the neck and guitar is tighter to allow the sound to move freely between the two.

The only disadvantage of set-neck is that it is difficult to repair or replace once it is damaged. The bolt-on style is available with the cheaper versions of guitars. The design is simple, locking the neck in a slot of the guitar body. Musical experts consider that this type of neck style does not give good quality sound and cannot be played longer, but this is more due to type of materials used. If you don't mind spending money for a superior quality sound but not a durable electric guitar, go for a set-neck.

What are frets?

You can choose the electric guitar based on how wide and long the neck is. 21, 22 and 24 are the number of frets that you can get with the usual guitars. The guitars from Stratocasters have 21 frets. This gives you a shorter neck but opting for large frets will let you play more easily. Jackson guitars have higher frets. The number of frets you should choose will depend on the number of notes you want to play. A higher number lets you play more sounds. <bio>For other great articles about guitars and electric guitars please check out http://www.electricguitarsadvice.info and http://www.usedguitarsadvice.info.
Alexander's 4 concepts of good use:

1. Allow your neck to release so that your head can balance forward and up 2. Allow your torso to release into length and width 3. Allow your legs to release away from your pelvis 4. Allow your shoulders to release out to the sides

What exactly do we mean by release?

Try this little exercise while you are reading this article.

Pick up a cup as though you are going to drink from it.

Hold the cup close to your mouth and release as much tension from your neck, shoulder and raised arm as possible without actually moving the cup.

Can you feel the tension releasing?

If so, and the cup is still there then it can be seen that any extra tension you had before "the act of release" was in fact totally unnecessary.

You were still doing enough work for the cup to remain in position. The muscles were not "relaxed" because this implies that they are doing no work at all, and this obviously cannot be the case as the cup remained in situ.

Similarly you can apply these techniques whilst sitting at your desk working.

Sit at your desk and write something that is not especially demanding. As you write, think of releasing the tension in your neck and shoulders. Feel how your shoulders drop as you release. Try to feel the tiredness evaporating along with the tension. Notice how you are holding your pen, can you grip it and write with less tension in the fingers? you should find that you can.

While you are still writing, notice any extra tension in your legs and feet, consciously release these with your feet on the floor with ankles crossed.

At first, as soon as you think about something other than releasing the tension, notice how the tension actually returns. Do not let yourself be discouraged as your body will quickly learn to stay in a state of reduced tension as it will innately "feel" that it is a more attractive state for it to be in.

Some people like to think of tension as "noise" and releasing as "quieting" that noise.

The first two concepts of good use are considered to be interdependent.

An effect of the combination of these 2 concepts is that they encourage you to maintain length in your spine.

Alexander proposed that the spine, being a curved and flexible structure, can either be posturally compressed which is obviously harmful, or lengthened, which is beneficial.

Concept 1: Allow your neck to release so your head can balance forward and up.

The well being of the spine depends ultimately upon correct head balance.

When your neck muscles are held tight your head presses down on your neck and compresses the entire spine. Therefore it can be seen that you have to first eliminate the incorrect use of your head before you can practice Concept 2, the lengthening of the spine.

Head forward and up;

You allow this to happen by freeing and releasing your neck muscles enabling your head to balance and poise easily on the top of your neck.

In accomplishing Concept 1 we need to understand and feel the difference between 2 bipolar positions namely;

- head "back and down"

- head "forward and up"

Place a hand gently on the back of the neck with your little finger under your head. Now tighten the musculature under your hand.

Note how the curve in your neck changes and the back of your head comes closer to the bottom of your neck.

This position is "back and down".

Now release the tension in your neck muscles so the head actually rotates forward.

Your face will lower slightly, but the overall effect is that your head will ease up off your neck; your neck will simultaneously lengthen as it is no longer compressed.

This position is "forward and up"

Concept 2: Allow your torso to release into length and width .

When you sit in a slumped posture the actual distance between the top of your head and the bottom of the pelvis is decreased. The spine is actually being compressed.

Similarly if you sit up straight as you might be ordered to at school with your lower back very arched. The torso is again compressed.

If you sit in such a way that normal curves in your spine are maintained with your torso muscles working only so much as to keep you upright, your torso will achieve its proper functional length.

Torso widening is a similar concept to torso lengthening.

To prevent "back arching" think of your lower back widening as your release muscle tension.

Similarly with the shoulders, to avoid shoulder rounding think of widening across the front of your torso.

Pulling the 2 concepts together:

Sitting without Back Support

A good training exercise combining the first two concepts is to practice sitting correctly without back support.

This will be uncomfortable at first, like anything worth doing in life the Alexander Technique takes time and patience to master, and then more time still, for your body to build the endurance it needs to remain lengthened after years of incorrect use, muscular atrophy and in some cases a degree of ligamental shortening.

Sit on a firm chair close to the edge.

Place both feet on the floor about 12 inches apart. You may initially be tempted to slump, but do not give in.

Think of your head leading up and your torso lengthening and widening as you "think" your back muscles into adopting their true spinal length.

To determine when you are sitting correctly, the sitting bones, "ischial tuberosities", 2 bony prominences at the very base of the pelvis will be pointing directly downwards into the seat of your chair.

If you are slumping they will move forward, if you are overarching they will lift off the chair.

As I talked about in my first article Alexander proposes that we are largely victims of the society we have created for ourselves.

As humans we have evolved a beautiful upright posture over millions of years.

But, as in many walks of modern life, as a species we have grasped defeat from the jaws of victory by designing furniture that encourages us to simply collapse into it, and also by granting ourselves the luxury of thinking it is fashionable to adopt chronic incorrect posture as the habitual norm.

The skeletal muscles work in opposing partnership with each other. Take for example sitting with your torso fully lengthened and widened. All the pairs of muscles surrounding the torso do their job in a balanced efficient way. The muscles are working in equilibrium.

In the same fashion, when you slump in your so called "comfy" sofa, the posture that the furniture is imposing on your spine requires that the back muscles are overstretched, while those in the front are over shortened. i.e. both muscular groups are being strained in opposite directions to maintain the postural position the furniture is imposing.

Neither are working efficiently to give good support.

In part 4 of the series i will be discussing Concepts 3 and 4 in detail and also "Inhibition", an essential adjunct to Alexander's four concepts. <bio>Mark J Shaw.
Many people get headaches as a response to physical strain, cramped muscles, and pinches nerves. These muscular headaches can be brutal, and are usually reoccurring to a very persistent degree. Usually, there is some level of tightness in or soreness in the area the muscle strain is occurring, like your neck or back area.

Because your nerves in that region are all connected and ultimately lead to your head, strain in your neck, shoulders, or back can produce headaches. Usually these kinds of headaches start out very localized, but can often spread over your entire head. Cures for headaches of this kind are difficult, as you have to cease doing whatever it is that is causing the strain, and may need extensive physical therapy to help your muscles recover.

Then there are sinus headaches. These are especially nasty, but fortunately are rarely a constant reoccurring phenomenon. Sinus headaches result from pressure in your sinuses, as a result from allergies, colds, or a sinus infection. If you get sinus headaches a lot, you may be suffering from allergies. Cures for headaches of this type can range from allergy treatments, to decongestants. My favorite is Claritin.

Unfortunately, headaches are one of the most complicated and poorly understood phenomenons in the medical world. Have you ever tried asking your doctor about cures for headaches? If you ask ten different doctors about headaches, you'll get ten different answers.

The reason why doctors give you so many different answers is because headaches can have so many causes, and a lot of them aren't really clear. If you get a lot of headaches, the first step you should do is try and figure out what kind of headaches you're getting. From my understanding, there are a few different kinds.

Last but certainly not least, are migraines; everyone's favorite and the least understood of the headache family. There are so many potential causes for migraines its not funny. If you suffer from migraines often, like me, it's a good start to keep a kind of headache log.

Record hours you slept, how well you slept, what you ate and drank, what you did during the day, anything you can think of and see if you can detect patterns with your headaches. If you can't get your finger on it there's always painkillers. While they're certainly not cures for headaches, they are better than nothing.

If you suffer from frequent headaches like me, finding some effective cures for headaches has probably been a personal goal of yours. I know for me it has been like the search for the Holy Grail. I would gladly sell my soul for some kind of magic pill of treatment that would serve as a once and for all cure for headaches. <bio>Giving you the information that you need to cure your headache. http://curesfoheadaches.info </bio>

Leashes are made up of cotton, nylon and leather. It is better to use leather leash for your dog as your dog can easily tare into pieces cotton leashes. Nylon leashes can slip from your hands easily and your dog can run away and may affect anyone including you too. Therefore, leather leashes are the best as they neither slip from your hands soon nor your dog can tare them into pieces within minutes. During dog leash training, a dog is taught to make a habit of having a leash on its neck.

When the dog wears first time leash on its neck in the beginning of dog leash training, every single dog does not like leash and wants to get rid of it but as time passes, your dog does not feel irritation when it sees leash on its neck. All dogs seize the leash when they wear it in the beginning, you should not stop your dog or beat it when it seizes its leash but let it seizing its leash. It is necessary for making successful dog leash training because when your dog touches the leash, it comes to know that this leash does not affect it when it touches it and does not cause pain. Your dog will soon leave the habit of seizing the leash in this way and that is what you want to see during dog leash training.

Always tide loosely the leash on your dog's neck. It is necessary to tide loosely the leash on your dog's neck as if you are not around your dog and your dog tides more its tight leash, it may result in the suffocation and your dog leash training will surely end but the result will not be the positive and according to your desires. Do not tie too much loosely the leash as in this case, your dog can take the leash inside its foot and the result will be once again the suffocation. Therefore, you should always be careful about tying the leash on your dog's neck during dog leash training. Neither tie it too loose nor too tight. Tide the leash in such a way that the leash may not affect your dog even in your absence.

If you want to cut out the habit of seizing from your dog, never stop your dog when it seizes the leash as if your dog is stubborn, it will never stop seizing the leash but will seize it more. Therefore, let it seize and as time goes by, it will automatically stop seizing it. Another method of cutting out the habit of the seizing from your dog is that you should never catch tightly the leash when you take your dog anywhere with you as when your dog feels pain or irritation on its neck due to the leash, it will try to get rid of it permanently instead of developing the habit of having the leash permanently on its neck during dog leash training.<bio>Andy Ayres is a dog training specialist and helps dog owners solve problems with their pets.
