Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system. It occurs when the immune system attacks the central nervous system, which leads to demyelination. A demyelination disease is a disease of the nervous system when the myelin of the neutrons is damaged. Multiple sclerosis usually develops in young adults but can occur in just about any age group. It is most prominent in women. The very first case of multiple sclerosis was discovered in 1868 by Jean-Martin Charcot.

Multiple sclerosis affects the brain and the spinal cord; specifically the myelin sheath that is wrapped around the nerve fibers. These myelin sheaths electrically insulate the nerve fibers when working properly. Despite being discovered over a century ago, there is no known cause of multiple sclerosis. There are ideas that the disease can be caused genetically, by an infection or even by other environmental factors. There is also no known cure for multiple sclerosis. Treatment is used to restore the body to a somewhat normal state after an attack and is used to possibly help prevent any further attacks. Having multiple sclerosis does not affect the life expectancy of patients. MS patients tend to live just as long as the non-affected population.

There are a variety of symptoms that can appear in a person that might have multiple sclerosis but not all of them will appear at once. These symptoms will appear gradually and from time to time. They are weakness, inability to balance or stand, acute or chronic pain, fatigue, muscle spasms, random eye twitching along with bladder and bowl difficulties.

As mentioned earlier, there are some environmental factors that could play a role in the development of multiple sclerosis. They are extreme stress, a decreased exposure to the sunlight, decreased Vitamin D intake and production and even smoking.

There are treatments available today for patients with multiple sclerosis but there is no known cure for the debilitating disease. The main focus of the treatments is to return the body to a normal functioning state, prevent any future attacks and to prevent any disability to the body. Some alternative treatments not used widely by many doctors is a specific diet tailored to the patient, the use of hyperbaric oxygenation and different types of herbal medication.

The prognosis for people with the disease is promising despite no known cure. Almost 40 percent of patients reach the seventh decade of their life and 15 percent of deaths from the disease are directly related to suicide. Over 50 percent of deaths in multiple sclerosis patients is directly related to the consequences of the disease. The majority of patients with multiple sclerosis loss the ability to walk prior to death but 90 percent of patients are still able to walk 10 years after the disease was diagnosed. More over; the number is at 75 percent for people who have had the disease for 15 years.

Multiple sclerosis is a disease that cannot be entirely prevented nor entirely cured. With proper treatment and excellent care patients with the disease can go about living their lives.<bio>California Drug Recovery Recover from Addiction</bio>

Currently suffering from MS? Want to know more about MS? Or, just want to meet and chat with people from around the world online who are also suffering from MS, or share the same MS story as yours? Well, there is one particular thing that you can do to answer such needs -- look for and participate in some MS message boards.

MS or Multiple Sclerosis is in the first place a life long chronic disease. Many people have been victims of this disorder. According to some studies, MS is an autoimmune disease triggers the immune system to attack the body's myelin.

Myelin is a fatty protein that acts as an insulating matter for nerves. When this protein becomes damaged, messages from the brain and spinal cord get "short-circuited". Inflammation then occurs in various areas of the body, and when this occurs, symptoms worsen and at time, new symptoms develop.

As mentioned earlier, many people suffered form this disease. It was reported that twice as many women as men have multiple sclerosis. There is actually no evidence that MS is directly inherited, but there is considered a predisposition to the illness among the family members.

Being so serious, MS gained interest from a number of people around the world. Both those who suffer and non-victims of MS were encouraged to find out some facts about multiple sclerosis. And, as more and more people are looking for some resources, more and more MS message boards were designed and developed to provide people access to some important facts about multiple sclerosis.

MS message boards are now highly accessible online. These generally serve as a perfect niche for people who are affected by MS to gather and discuss or exchange some thoughts and opinions about the disease. The MS message boards also serve as the perfect hubs even for those who only wish to find and meet friends with the same story of MS online. And, perhaps what's great about these message or bulletin boards is that they are a great place to learn about multiple sclerosis and some related diseases.

Now, if you've got a problem on where exactly online you can find and access MS message boards, I have here a short list of the most commonly noted bulletin boards that talk about multiple sclerosis. Google these boards online for they are really great places to visit, join and participate.

MS Central Support Message Boards

MS Central Support has designed their own forums and message boards for people who wish to know more about MS. At their message boards, you have the chance to post your questions and make friends for others coping with multiple sclerosis. Perhaps what's nice about their forums is that it is free to join, and a great place to share your multiple sclerosis experiences. Your questions will be answered not only the members of the forums, but by the experts of MS Central Support themselves.

MSRC Message Boards

The Multiple Sclerosis Resource Center (MSRC) message boards are also a great place to start with our search about MS. As noted, you can access all the available MS message boards here without needing to register. However, if you choose to register, it will bring advantages in how you can use the boards. It can also save you entering lots of detail every time you make a post as once you log in for a particular MS session, you will always be identified until your choose to log out. <bio>Discover 23 Common, Ironic, Internet Marketing Dogmas That More Than 90% Of The People Who Go Online In Pursuit Of Riches Subscribe To - That Is Responsible For Denying Them Online Wealth!
Since ancient times, natural light was known to have positive physiological effects on the human body. It dates back to a time when the famous Greek philosopher and the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, used the sun's rays in his naturopathic treatments for diseases. Heliotherapy is the practice of using sunlight to fight ailments and restore health.

In the early 20th century, heliotherapy was extensively used to treat diseases like tuberculosis, rickets in children and war-wounds. Its importance was formally recognized when Dr. Niels Finson got the Nobel Prize in 1903 for devising a method of ultraviolet therapy in tuberculosis-cure.

Heliotherapy involves using sun's ultraviolet rays to initiate Vitamin D production in our skin and thereby prevents breast cancer, osteoporosis, prostate cancer, psoriasis, acne, etc. The increased metabolism in the body due to vitamin D production also multiplies enzyme reaction rate, cell regeneration, tissue repair, blood flow speed and increased oxygen supply.

Some significant beneficiaries of Heliotherapy

Spinal Cord Injury patients -- Paralytic people suffer from severe loss of lower-extremity bone mass. Vitamin D causes Calcium (which is the most vital component of bone-growth) to be absorbed from the intestinal tracts. Vitamin D deficiency causes deformed bone-growth, increasing the probability of fractures.

Multiple Sclerosis patients - Studies reveal that people located in lesser sunlight-exposed areas are more prone to multiple sclerosis. For example, Norwegians living near the ocean and consuming vitamin D enriched seafood, report lesser cases of multiple sclerosis than those living inland.

Old Age patients - Vitamin D production in a body decreases with age. Studies say that this vitamin acts as a preventive agent against prostate cancer, which is the second most common cause of cancerous death in people over 75.

Athletes - Repeated researches in sports medicine have shown that routine exposure of athletes to the sun not only optimized their performance capabilities, but also significantly reduced the incidence and recovery time from minor injuries.

Apart from its medicinal virtues, heliotherapy signifies that Helios, or the sun, has always been a buoyant factor for perking up people's moods. This has been reflected over the ages in several poems, songs and movies. Interestingly, researchers have also found that exposure to sunlight increases the production of serotonin, a chemical that stimulates the human brain's pleasure centers, thereby uplifting our moods in moments of depression and anxiety. Herein remains the connection between heliotherapy and our mental well-being. <bio>Jesse Taylor gives you interesting news on http://www.thentheresyourhealth.com for you and your family.
All right, this is just plain... distressing. If you're at all squeamish about parasites, read on at your own risk. Researchers at the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde will try to understand why auto immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis are so rare in countries where parasitic worm infections are common and whether this may lead to new effective arthritis treatments.

Yes, that's right. Parasitic worms living inside the bodies of populations from tropical regions without causing them any trouble at all. And perhaps, strangely, providing some benefit. Which leaves you to wonder if Mother Nature doesn't know just exactly what she's doing after all...

The scientific community is well aware of an inverse relationship between worm infections and diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, type-1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis. Countries where people are naturally infected with this particular parasite seem to have lower rates of these conditions than those countries where this type of infection doesn't occur or has been eradicated.

Luckily for the squeamish among us, it's not the actual parasitic filarial nematode worm that the Scots scientists are wanting to put into our bodies, it's a large molecule they secrete known as ES-62. This substance is found in the bloodstream of parasite infected people in the tropics, and seems to provide some protective benefit against the inflammation the worms should be causing in their human hosts. The good news is that ES-62 has no known adverse effects, leaving the body perfectly able to fight off other infections.

"ES-62 appears to act like a 'thermostat' to effectively turn down disease-causing inflammation while leaving essential defense mechanisms intact to fight infection and cancer," according to Iain McInnes, a member of the research team and Professor of Experimental Medicine at the University of Glasgow. "This property also makes ES-62 a unique tool for scientists to identifying how such disease-causing inflammation occurs."

The team is going to try and produce a synthetic (again... whew!) version of the ES-62 molecule from the worms in an effort to come up with an anti inflammatory therapy that works effectively for auto immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, type-1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis. The three-year study is being funded by the UK's Arthritis Research Campaign.
Earlier work has also shown ES-62 to have real potential as a therapy for allergies too.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a potentially crippling joint disease that comes as a result of your immune system attacking itself. Inflammation in the joints and internal organs is the result and is an incredibly painful condition.

At present there is no cure for this severely debilitating condition, but there is lots of research currently underway, and various arthritis treatment options are available that help take down the painful inflammation and keep joint damage to a minimum. One such treatment has recently hit the headlines -- a drug called Tocilizumab (which will be sold under the brand name RoActemra). This works in conjunction with another arthritis drug Methotrexate and works to halt symptoms.<bio>Over 14,000 people have joined Kirsten's popular (and sometimes controversial) Daily Health Bulletin, so why not join them and stay up to date with the latest on arthritis treatment and general health news daily. You also get 5 comprehensive health reports free when you join - giving you all you need to treat common ailments, lose weight, look younger and feel healthier.</bio>

Vertigo is a condition where you experience dizziness with a change in the normal environment. Sometimes feeling a movement in space too is a sign of vertigo. However, it is not the case that all types of dizziness is vertigo; but certainly all vertigo is dizziness.

The true form of vertigo is a severe form of dizziness that results in movement hallucination. Such people suffer from a peripheral vestibular disorder like benign positional vertigo. These conditions in turn lead to tinnitus and hearing loss. With vertigo, you get the impression that you and your surroundings seem to move and you may experience some vomiting, tilting, and a feeling of falling through space. Some cases also lead to eyes jerking back and forth uncontrollably. It commonly lasts for periods ranging from a few days to a few weeks and though these symptoms generally improve, they may persist for a few weeks to a few months.

There are many causes for vertigo, the most common one being the Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPPV). This is a disorder of the inner ear, whose cause is not exactly known. However, it is usually an upper respiratory tract infection or a blow to the head that seems to be responsible for it. This is because it leads to a dislodgement of crystalline structures in the ear's balance detectors. This form of vertigo is most prevalent, especially when the head moves up and down, or when turning in bed. These attacks generally last 30 to 60 seconds and its occurrence can be reduced by avoiding positions which bring on vertigo.

Vertigo is also caused through labyrinthitis. This is a condition of the inner ear, which is associated with inflammation, maybe nerve deterioration, an upper respiratory infection or may occur independently of other situations. A symptom of various central nervous system disorders like multiple sclerosis, neck injuries, epilepsy, some forms of migraine, cerebellar and brain stem tumors and acoustic neuroma can be vertigo.

There is no common treatment for vertigo. Your physician has to do a complete medical evaluation to find out the true cause, and correspondingly advise the right solution. If some medication is found to cause your condition, lowering the dosage or discontinuing it can eliminate it all together. Some doctors also advise Vestibular rehabilitation therapy, which is the most popular physical therapy used for the treatment of vertigo. Here, dizziness is minimized, balance improved and falls prevented by restoring the normal function of the vestibular system through exercises that make the brain adapt, and compensate the cause of vertigo. Some types of vertigo are also treated through medication while multiple sclerosis, cerebrovascular disease, and tumors may need medication, radiation or surgery. <bio>Jason Rickard is the owner of http://www.yourfavouriteshop.com - Offering White Noise and Relaxation CDs - Visit http://www.hapahapa.com for more articles </bio>

A balance in essential fatty acids is crucial for many bodily functions. It promotes good overall health as well. Particularly, omega-3 fatty acids are essential for human development and achieving good health throughout life. The tissues of the body require omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in order to function properly. There are many conditions that are improved by supplementing with omega-3 oils including high cholesterol levels, prevention of strokes, cancer prevention/treatment, psoriasis and eczema, heart disease, high blood pressure, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Diets that are high in saturated fat are often linked with high blood-cholesterol levels, which is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease such as coronary heart disease and stroke. Many diet therapies that aim to reduce the build-up of cholesterol and risk of CHD focus mainly on reducing the total and saturated fat intake. Dietary interventions that reduce saturated fat intake by simply three percent could even prevent about 100,000 new cases of coronary heart disease within the next 7 years. Once dietary saturated fats are decreased, they may be replaced with polyunsaturated fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids that lower both total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol.

Although a person's genetic inheritance has a lot to do with the likelihood of developing heart disease, it is becoming increasingly clear that modifying your lifestyle can improve the effects of your genes. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., but people can reduce their risk by adopting prevention habits. Some of the most crucial tactics are avoiding smoking, maintaining a desirable blood cholesterol level, keeping blood pressure in the normal range, and regularly engaging in aerobic exercise. Along with these lifestyle habits, alpha-linolenic acid can be taken as supplementation to improve the body's ability to fight heart disease.

Alpha-linolenic acid has also been shown to lower the risk of stroke, which is the third leading cause of death in the U.S., after heart disease and cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids have also been shown to lower blood pressure by small but significant amounts and have also been able to lower levels of hypertension. Essential fatty acids also have the ability to reduce inflammation of the synovial fluid in the joints, which means that they can help in rheumatoid arthritis, a disease that affects at least forty million people in the United States.

Multiple sclerosis, a disease of the central nervous system that destroys myelin sheaths that cover the nerve and creates inflammation, has symptoms including blurred vision, dizziness, numbness, weakness, tremors, slurred speech, and staggering. Studies have shown that multiple sclerosis is at least partially caused by the deficiency of prostaglandins, which are produced from essential fatty acids.

Psoriasis, a skin disease that is characterized by patches of scaly skin on the knees, elbows, and scalp, but possibly anywhere, is considered essentially incurable by conventional methods, but dietary methods have offered some hope. Because of its rich essential fatty acid content, flaxseed oil is one of the natural therapeutic agents suggested for psoriasis. There is some evidence that suggests that a consistent supply of omega-3 oils may help to prevent fat-sensitive types of cancers, as well as inhibit breast, colon, prostate, and pancreatic cancers.<bio>More information on essential fatty acids is available at VitaNet andreg;, LLC Health Food Store. http://vitanetonline.com/</bio>

Disabilities, based on the classification made by the education sector, may be grouped into three categories, "physical disabilities", "acquired disabilities", and "developmental disabilities"

Physical disabilities appear right after a child is born. These are usually caused by illnesses, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, cystic fibrosis, and Down's syndrome. A child with cerebral palsy has lost his ability to control his movement. Sometimes, the mental capacity is reduced but sometimes it is not affected. A child with spina bifida has a defective portion in his spinal column. Having sensations below this portion is zero and this leads to physical impairment. Incontinence may also occur. A child with cystic fibrosis has an obstruction in the gastrointestinal and pulmonary systems. This illness is inherited. And a child with Down's syndrome becomes mentally retarded. If retardation is severe, the child can never take care of himself.

Children having the above physical disabilities would need mobility devices such as crutches, walking sticks, wheelchairs, stair lifts, and floor lifts.

Acquired disabilities can happen at any age. These are not selective and give no warning. This type of disability may be due to diseases such as AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome), multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer's disease. AIDS is a sexually transmitted disease (can also be transmitted via blood transfusion) that impairs a person's immune system. Multiple sclerosis is a progressive disorder that affects the central nervous system. The brain degenerates and this means that the control center for body functions becomes unreliable. Alzheimer's disease also affects the brain and the common sign is that the afflicted person suffers a progressive loss of memory.

A person may also acquire a disability if he had a spinal cord injury, often due to a fatal accident.

Developmental disabilities are also known as "learning disabilities". Some examples are ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), dyslexia, mental retardation, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and speech impairment.

Of the three types of disabilities, the first two types (physical abilities and acquired disabilities) would require the assistance of instruments and equipment to help the affected person overcome barriers to his mobility. The disabled persons must understand that their problems can be alleviated and addressed by choosing the right mobility device. They must also realize that such physical condition is a hindrance that can be overcome so that they can still function normally. For example, the game basketball can be played by people in wheelchairs. This is why they are referred to as "differently-abled".

People who have no disabilities should also understand that such are conditions and not communicable diseases, nor a topic for amusement. <bio>The author is a certified physiotherapist and wrote a website about all kinds of stair lifts at http://www.treppenlifte-treppenlift-treppenlifter.de </bio>

Parkinson's disease, especially in its early stages when the symptoms are mild, is not easy to diagnose. The non-specific, and easily overlooked signs of Parkinson's disease make it difficult to spot, and unlike many illnesses, there is no one laboratory test or radiological exam that will provide a definitive diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.

Patients exhibiting Parkinson's-like symptoms may undergo blood and urine tests, or CT or MRI scans to exclude other conditions, but none of these provide a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. The best way to test for Parkinson's disease is to conduct a systemic neurological examination that includes tests to gauge a patient's reflexes, muscle strength, balance, coordination, gait, and overall movement. However, according to information presented on The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research website, up to 25 percent of Parkinson's disease diagnoses are incorrect.

Why is there confusion about diagnosing Parkinson's disease? The simple answer is that the symptoms of Parkinson's disease are not clear cut, and therefore, it is easy to mistake them for other conditions, or to classify them as Parkinsonian when they are not.

Here is an overview of the top three conditions mistaken for Parkinson's disease:

* Multiple system atrophy (Shy-Drager Syndrome). This is a rapidly progressing disease that first features autonomic nervous system insufficiencies (dizziness, lack of bladder control, impotence, etc), and then takes on Parkinson's disease-type symptoms, such as rigidity, bradykinesia, tremor, postural instability, and difficulty walking. Some neurological specialists have speculated Shy-Drager syndrome may be a form of Parkinson's disease rather than a separate condition, but for the time being, it remains its own entity.

* Supranuclear palsy. This disorder results in rapid paralysis of eye movements, difficulty speaking, rigidity, and subtle mental shifts. Supranuclear palsy is a disorder of a different part of the brain than Parkinson's disease, and patients with this condition do not tend to respond to standard anti-parkinsonian drugs such as levodopa. The speed at which this disease progresses also sets it apart from Parkinson's disease.

* Benign essential tremor (familial tremor) is a gradually progressing condition that presents as tremors in the hands and arms on both sides of a patient's body, and occasionally the head. Unlike Parkinson's, familial tremor does not affect the legs, and the two illnesses respond to different drugs.

Beyond those three, there are several other conditions that are confused with Parkinson's disease, including multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease), Striato-Nigral degeneration, normal pressure hydrocephalus, pseudobulbar palsy, Wilson's disease, Hallervorden Spatz disease, olivopontocerebellar degeneration, Huntington's disease, dystonia, and brain tumors.

With such a variety of illnesses sharing the same symptoms and characteristics, it's not surprising Parkinson's disease is often misdiagnosed. People who have mild symptoms, or who would like a second opinion, should ask their doctor about having the diagnosis confirmed by another physician. With early diagnosis as the key to maintaining longer-term independence and a high quality of life, it is important to have an accurate diagnosis so that appropriate treatment therapies can begin immediately. <bio>David Williams contributes to several popular web sites, most recently http://becid.com and http://depek.com </bio>

While a myeloma diagnosis can be overwhelming, it is important to remember that there are several promising new therapies that are helping patients live longer, healthier lives. The estimated frequency of multiple myeloma is 5-6 new cases per 100,000 persons per year. Accordingly, in the USA 15,980 new cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2005. At present there are more than 50,000 people in the United States living with multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma is a malignant proliferation of plasma cells that involves more than 10 percent of the bone marrow. It is a prototype primary malignancy of the bone associated with malignant plasma cells that secrete monoclonal immunoglobulins into the serum, the urine or both.

Multiple myeloma is the most common primary cancer of the bones in adults. The annual incidence in the United States is three to four cases per 100,000 population. Multiple myeloma represents 1 percent of all cancers diagnosed in the United States and 10 percent of all hematologic malignancies. The median age at diagnosis of multiple myeloma is 62 years. Only 2 to 3 percent of cases are reported in patients younger than 30 years.2

The disease is called multiple myeloma because myeloma cells can occur in multiple bone marrow sites in your body. If you have multiple myeloma but aren't experiencing symptoms, your doctors may just need to monitor your condition. If you're experiencing symptoms, a variety of treatments are available.

Blacks in the United States are twice as likely to suffer from multiple myeloma as whites. In fact, multiple myeloma is the most common hematologic malignancy in the U.S. black population.3 Multiple myeloma is rare among persons of Asian descent, with an incidence of only one to two cases per 100,000 population. Standard therapy for multiple myeloma includes alkylating agents administered with prednisone. The most commonly used alkylating agent is melphalan (Alkeran). Melphalan, 9 mg per m2, is given orally with 100 mg of prednisone on days 1 through 4. Courses of therapy are repeated at four- to six-week intervals for at least one year. <bio>Multiple Myeloma is the most common Cancer of the Plasma Cells.
Critical illness insurance can be a Godsend for anyone who would suffer financially if they were to be diagnosed with a critical illness such as cancer, a heart attack or stroke. If something such as this should happen, then the bills would soon mount up, bills including your mortgage, your medical bills if any, taking care of your family and the future - these all come into play.

Critical illness cover gives you a tax-free lump sum payment that can be used as you wish. Some people pay off their mortgage, others use it to pay for private medical treatment or put it in the bank to allow them to carry on paying their every day bills along with making any changes that might have to be made to their home to accommodate their illness.

The illnesses covered by this policy varies from company to company as well as how much you pay for your policy. There are many types of policy available and the level of cover will determine how much you pay for the insurance and also what is included in the cover. However the policy can be tailored to some extent, with some companies offering benefits for what you can afford to pay.

It is imperative that you fully understand critical insurance policies, as with any type of insurance there are many exclusions within them. Policies will only pay out for the conditions which are listed within them and these usually include heart attack, stroke, any major transplant of an organ, cancer, coronary heart by pass and multiple sclerosis.

However even with these being outlined within the policy it still doesn't mean that it is cut and dry, for example with some insurers you have to have proof that your heart problems are not such as angina, as this is excluded from some policies. So always make sure that you read the small print and what is and is not covered by the policy.

Usually there will be a waiting period before you can make a claim on a policy and a critical insurance policy can usually be taken out between the ages of 17 and 70. <bio>David Thomson is Chief Executive of BestDealInsurance (http://www.bestdealinsurance.co.uk) an independent specialist broker dedicated to providing their clients with the best deal on their home, motor and life insurance. </bio>

These conditions include diabetes, high cholesterol, psoriasis, and multiple sclerosis. While manufacturers continue to market Glyconutrient products for their health benefits, the medical communities have been hesitant to embrace glyconutrients, even in the face of what appears to be undeniable evidence.

The effects of Glyconutrients can be confusing for most of us. We all associate Glyco with sugar, and we have been taught that sugar is the enemy. However, research has identified that the body should have these eight different sugars in it. Most people have a diet that only has two of those eight sugars in it.

Many people ask if glyconutritionals have been approved by the FDA - the answer is no, nutritional supplements are not approved by the FDA. Preliminary tests show some nearly unbelievable health results from glyconutrient supplementation.

Thousands of users of Glyconutrients believe in the power of these nutrients. They have chosen to take it daily because it makes them feel better. This type of alternate medicine has become very popular- you just do what works, whether your doctor says it should help or not.

Most medical professionals will not promote glyconutrient products, because they are not educated in nutrition, and nutrition is not what they are experts at. Glyconutrients are not known to cause any negative side effects in the human body.

Remember, glyconutrient products do not cure any disease - avoid anyone who claims that they will. <bio>Visit http://www.glyconutrients-online.com for more on glyconutrients. </bio>

While no one likes to think about death or illness and, it does happen and if you were diagnosed with a critical illness it would put severe stress not only on yourself but also your loved ones.

With the advancements of technology today more and more people who are diagnosed with a critical illness do recover and go on to lead a normal life. However, it is during the recovery time that you could need help and peace of mind that you wouldn't have to struggle financially. A lump sum payout could help to pay medical expenses or day to day living expenses whilst you recovered and this would come in the form critical illness insurance.

Critical life insurance will pay out a lump sum of money if you should be diagnosed with one of the specific critical illnesses outlined in a policy. The sum of money and the term that the policy is taken out is determined at the time of purchasing the policy and if you should suffer from one of the critical illnesses defined on the policy then that sum of money would be paid out providing that you survived for 28 days after you were diagnosed with the illness.

The actual conditions defined as critical illness will vary from policy to policy but they usually all include such as cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, major organ transplant and multiple sclerosis. There are many others but these are usually the core illnesses so always check with a particular policy under the terms and conditions.

If after the term ends on the policy and you haven't been diagnosed with a critical illness then the policy simply expires there is no cash payout. A critical illness life insurance policy can bring great peace of mind to you and your loved ones and get you through a stressful period of time but you have to be careful when choosing your policy. The easiest way to get the best deal on a critical life insurance policy is to go to a specialist provider and let them secure the cheapest deal for you. <bio>David Thomson is Chief Executive of BestDealInsurance (http://www.bestdealinsurance.co.uk) an independent specialist broker dedicated to providing their clients with the best deal on their home, motor and life insurance. </bio>

A large percentage of heart disease is known to be genetic. So, as experience with patients has also shown me, even more important than looking beyond total cholesterol levels is testing for the number one gene that affects cholesterol and heart disease -- Apo E.

Most people are still not sure how they feel about genetic testing or what to do with genetic testing results if they have been tested. Because it is such a new technology, most people have never discussed a genetic test with a medical provider, let alone had one performed. Yet if you have had a baby born into your family in the past few years, chances are the baby has had a genetic test for phenylketonuria (PKU). The routine genetic testing of newborns can identify genetic disorders that must be treated early in life and is the most widespread use of genetic testing. All 50 states have passed laws requiring that newborns be tested for PKU because if it is not identified and treated very early with dietary restrictions, it causes mental retardation.

While the medical industry is in its infancy with respect to genetic testing and handling the results of that testing, we know enough to say that proper genetic testing can provide you with some important information that can help you determine how to best protect or improve your health. This does not mean that everyone should be gene tested. Gene testing has some involved, complicated medical and ethical issues associated with it. I won't get into the debate about genetic testing from a philosophical standpoint, but rather, share with you certain conditions under which you may -- or may not -- want to consider genetic testing. Your decision about whether or not to take the Apo E genotype test should be made with the help of a practitioner, ideally the one who will then order the test for you if you decide in favor. I will offer guidelines below to help you and your practitioner in making the right decision for you.

Drawbacks of Testing

The decision to get tested for the Apo E gene is not easy, and one of the main reasons is because your health insurance company and your employer could find out that you have an above average risk of developing Alzheimer disease or cardiovascular disease. Besides their knowing, you might rather not know that unless you make major changes to how you live your life, you have a 90 percent chance of developing Alzheimer disease. If you are considering the test because your family has a history of Alzheimer disease, or you have very high cholesterol, you should talk with a medical provider who has experience performing these tests and can help keep your test results confidential.

The Apo E test, along with an advanced cholesterol test, can give you clear nutritional direction and guidance. The question then becomes whether you need an Apo E test, or just advanced cholesterol testing. Personally, I think it depends on what you want, need, and are willing to do. I do not recommend that testing be done just to find your risk of contracting Alzheimer disease. Rather, the decision to be tested should be based on your desire to obtain the information necessary for proper nutritional guidance and assistance in preventing chronic illness.

Reasons for Doing Genetic Testing

Indications and warning signs that may be a reason for genetic testing are a personal history of:

• severe cardiovascular disease
• Alzheimer disease
• Parkinson disease
• severe neurological disease
• gout
• alcoholism
• high triglycerides and/or LDL
• insulin resistance or diabetes
• substance abuse
• morbid obesity
• depression/anxiety disorder or other mood disorders
• confirmation of a high cholesterol disorder potentially being affected by the Apo E gene
• confirmation of a diagnosis of late onset Alzheimer disease in a symptomatic adult or to reduce risk with dietary prescription
• assistance with treatment of multiple sclerosis by dietary prescription
• assistance with treatment of Parkinson disease by dietary prescription

At the same time, if you have one of the following chronic illnesses or conditions and you are not getting better with your current care plan, you may want to consider getting an Apo E test to help improve your dietary patterns. Here are just a few conditions that I have seen find exceptional success with dietary change related to an Apo E genotype:

• acne
• arthritis
• gout
• diabetes
• depression
• alcoholism
• chronic pain
• ADD and ADHD
• high cholesterol
• cardiovascular disease
• hypertension
• Parkinson disease
• multiple sclerosis
• severe peri-menopausal symptoms
• anxiety
• chronic obesity
• fibromyalgia
• insulin resistance
• insomnia
• menopausal symptoms
• glucose intolerance

I strongly recommend that you find a medical provider who has been trained in the advancing field of genetic heart disease and in integrative nutritional medicine to support you.<bio>Pamela McDonald is a leading Integrative Medicine Nurse Practitioner, who specializes in the prevention of heart and Alzheimer's disease, and chronic illness. Plasma cells are a type of white blood cell present in your bone marrow -- the soft, blood-producing tissue that fills in the center of most of your bones. The exact cause of multiple myeloma isn't known.

Although multiple myeloma may not cause symptoms early in the disease, it's likely that you'll experience symptoms as the disease progresses.

Signs and symptoms of the disease can vary from person to person. One of the most common symptoms, however, is bone pain. A common sign is the presence of abnormal proteins, which can be produced by myeloma cells, in your blood or urine. These proteins which are antibodies or parts of antibodies -- are called monoclonal, or M, proteins.

Often discovered during a routine exam, monoclonal proteins may indicate multiple myeloma, but also can indicate other conditions.

Common potential sign of multiple myeloma is a high level of calcium in your blood. This can occur when calcium from affected bones dissolves into your blood. As a result, you may experience signs and symptoms such as:

Excessive thirst and urination Constipation Nausea Loss of appetite Mental confusion

Plasma cells usually make up less than 5 percent of the cells in your bone marrow. But if you have multiple myeloma, a group of abnormal plasma cells (myeloma cells) multiplies, raising the percentage of plasma cells to more than 10 percent of the cells in your bone marrow. The result can be erosion of your bones. The disease also interferes with the function of your bone marrow and immune system, which can lead to anemia and infection. Multiple myeloma may also cause problems with your kidneys.

We urge you to gather more information on myeloma so that you can easily recognize the signs if you do encounter such a situation. Knowing the symptoms early can save a life! Be it your life, or a life of your loved ones. Find out more about Myeloma today! <bio>Multiple Myeloma is the most common Cancer of the Plasma Cells.
As we age, the lens in our eye starts to lose its elasticity, and the muscles that control the lens shape get weaker, resulting in a form of farsightedness called presbyopia. There are several other factors besides age that can accelerate the onset of presbyopia, including eye injury, diseases such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis, drug use, gender (women tend to get it at a younger age than men), and occupation (if your job requires a lot of close up work, presbyopia may occur sooner). While you may be able to control some of the risk factors, there is no known way to prevent presbyopia and it is considered part of the natural aging process. If you find yourself having to hold books and other reading material farther away from you to read it, you may be developing presbyopia and need bifocal vision correction. Contact lenses are now available for people who need bifocals and after a discussion with your eye care professional, you can decide if contact lenses are the right choice for you.

Bifocal contact lenses are available across the whole range of contact lens materials, from rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, to traditional soft contact lenses, to the new silicon hydrogel soft contact lenses, which allow much more oxygen to reach the eye. They are also available across the spectrum of wear schedules, from the RGPs which can last several years, to daily disposables.

The location of the distance and near correction in bifocal contact lenses varies with style. Some, called aspheric, have near and distance correction dispersed around the contact lens, and the eye will learn to use the part it needs at the correct time without you being aware of it. In others, called concentric, one type of correction is found in the middle of the contact lens, while the other kind of correction encircles it around the outside of the lens. Translating lenses work much like bifocal glasses, with one type of correction on the top, and the other on the bottom. Another option for people with presbyopia is to have the different corrections in different eyes, called monovision. In other words, in one eye you would wear a prescription to correct nearsightedness, and in the other, you would wear on to correct farsightedness. You will probably not even notice the difference, and because the lenses are less specialized, it may be more economical to purchase contact lenses this way if it is a style that works for you. <bio>James Brown writes about Contact Lens, Contact Lens Coupons http://www.bestcontactlenscoupons.com </bio>

Headache is a mass disease. At one time or the other, you must have gone through the ordeal of it. Many a times, it is a passing feature! It doesn't require any treatment at all. It comes, takes its time, tests and bothers you to the extent it can and departs away! All that you need is to have patience and understanding then!

This much about the normal headaches! The real problem starts when it becomes chronic. The severe pain will drive out all understanding and patience within you and you feel that you must have instant relief, otherwise the head will break!

Scientists and researchers all over the world are worried about such headaches and are trying out various combinations to combat this. They have come out with several products depending upon the nature of headaches and Elavil is one of them!

Elavil, in the first instance was prescribed to treat bulimia (an eating disorder). Subsequently it was used to control chronic pain and to prevent migraine headache.

Does Elavil cure the headache directly? Perhaps it is not its direct function; it is only a responsive action! It is a member of the group of drugs called tricyclic anti-depresasants. Doctors prescribe Elavil to treat a pathological weeping and laughing syndrome associated with multiple sclerosis.

Utmost care is to be taken about taking the doses as prescribed by your physician! Go strictly by the quantum of the dose, and do not skip doses. Even if you feel like not taking the dose, due to depression or any other factors do not skip the dose. If you miss a dose for any reason, do not take two doses the next day, to make up for the shortfall. When you start the therapy, the side effect at the initial stage, may be drowsiness. Do not panic and give up the doses. This condition will disappear after a few days. Rewards are promised for the patients who have patience for 30 days. The thumb rule is that never take 2 doses at a time. It is dangerous.

The side effects of Elavil are thoroughly discouraging. The side effects reported are: constipation, blurred vision, dry mouth, rapid heart beat, and a greater danger of sustaining a nasty fall!

Owners of Elavil, be careful! One wrong decision and your headache may prove to be too costly. <bio>http://www.headacheupdates.com/migraine/ andamp; Headache Relief provides detailed information on headache, natural headache relief, headache treatment and more. </bio>

Supervision and Safety. Saunas are safe for most people providing one follows a few simple rules. Remain inside no longer than 30 minutes at a time. Rest lying or sitting for 10 minutes afterwards. This allows time to eliminate dead cells and other debris. Drink mineralized water before and after the sauna. Make sure the bowels move regularly, as sauna therapy will increase elimination.

Use the sauna with supervision if you have a chronic condition. If debilitated or very heat-sensitive, begin with a shorter time. The presence of an attendant or friend is also most helpful. Those with multiple sclerosis, hyperthyroidism, hypertension or serious heart conditions should consult a health professional.

Slow metabolizers may use the sauna up to twice a day. Upon arising and at bedtime are excellent if time permits. Evening is probably best if you use it once a day. If ill, however, the morning is better when energy levels are higher. Less often is also acceptable if beginning or to maintain your health. If you are very debilitated, begin with once a week. Work up to daily use as you feel able. Fast metabolizers should use the sauna once or twice a week.

Increase Blood Circulation with Sauna!

Temperature elevation produces an increase in blood flow and dilation directly in capillaries, arterioles and venuies, probably through direct action on their smooth muscles. The release of bradykinin, released as a consequence of sweat-gland activity, also produces increased blood flow and vasodilatation. (see Sauna Detox)

How Often Should I Use the Sauna?

One may use a sauna twice a week to twice a day. If one is very debilitated, begin with once a week. Work up to daily use as one is able. When beginning, many people do not easily sweat. Instead, their bodies overheat and tolerate less time in the sauna. In a few weeks to a few months, as the body acclimates and is more able to regulate its temperature, sweating becomes easier. Also, the more one relaxes, the more one will sweat.

So what are you waiting for? We urge you to find out more about how you too can detox and burn up those stored calories as fast as ever! <bio>The http://www.saunadetox.info is electric, wood or gas fired. Either way, they are excellent http://www.saunadetox.info/articles/index.html methods. </bio>
