I have read about Pearl Harbor in all of the history books just like my friends and neighbors. In fact, I was born just ten years after the attack. I even saw the movie that was based on the events at Pearl Harbor. Nothing, however, came close to helping me learn about the truth of the tragedy at Pearl Harbor like talking with my mother.

My mom was in her mid-twenties during the second World War. She was a nurse that was stationed on land just outside of Pearl Harbor. I didn't know until recently just how horrific the events of that attack were even on the nurses who were stationed there to keep track of the health of the soldiers.

When I was visiting my mom a few months ago we sat down with our cups of peppermint tea and began to reflect upon life before my father passed away. We made our way through old family scrapbooks that captured photographs from our countless family vacations. I asked my mother a variety of questions about what it was like to raise six kids and I asked her what she thought her greatest strengths were as a mother. Somehow we made it all the way back to talking about her childhood and about the years during which my mother grew up. This quickly led to her sharing with me an indepth account of the events of Pearl Harbor as she remembered them.

I have always been interested in history, so I am not sure why it didn't occur to me to ask my mom about the details of World War II earlier than this particular afternoon. It is a subject that my parents never brought up and hence that I had never ventured out to ask them about. My mom tearfully went into her bedroom and came back with a small wooden box filled with photographs, newspaper clippings and handwritten letters from the years leading up to and after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

I learned that my mom lost her first love in the attack at Pearl Harbor. In fact, she was engaged to be married to the soldier and they had a wedding date set for three months after the attack. I guess I had always assumed that my father was her first love, but she relayed to me that she and my father didn't even meet until three years after Pearl Harbor happened. My father had been a soldier during the war as well, but he had never been stationed at or around Pearl Harbor.

I share all this to say that I was reminded that afternoon of what a wealth of knowledge can have by talking with the people who came before us. Find someone who survived Pearl Harbor and talk with them today. <bio>Hallidae Thomason is an author that loves to write about historical events.
Ever wonder what made pearl jewelry so special? What the difference was between real and fake pearls? Why does it cost a lot for real pearl jewelry? I will try to give you a brief explanation in the following paragraphs.

First off pearls come from oysters commonly found in the ocean. The oyster lays layers of different chemical compounds to form the precious stone. The compound is calcium carbonate and conchiolin which combined together makes mother-of-pearl.

Most pearls are white but can be tinted with a vast array of colors to give them a unique and colorful look. Some of the more common colors are blue, yellow, brown, green and purple along with a few others. The rarest of colors is black. Black pearls are much harder to come by due to manufacturing processes. The process that black pearls are subject too has a small percentage rate that actually make it through the process, due to rejecting the nucleus.

Most people believe that pearls only come from saltwater but that is not true. There are two types of pearls; saltwater and freshwater pearls. The majority of pearls come from the ocean in protected lagoons across the world. There are pearls that come from freshwater mussels that live in rivers, lakes and ponds.

The bulk of freshwater pearls today mainly come from China and a few other remote regions.

If you are wondering how to tell a real pearl from a fake pearl apart it is quite simple. The simplest of methods is running your teeth along the pearl, if it is smooth it is more than likely fake. If it has a unique roughness to it that makes your teeth grit it is more than likely real. If you attempting to decipher natural pearls from cultured pearls you will more than likely require a specialist with advanced machinery.

When searching for pearl jewelry buying fake pearl is probably your best bet. It looks usually about the same and costs a lot less! There are many sites on the internet that specialize in pearl jewelry in a vast array of colors, just keep your eyes open. Find the right pearl for you! <bio>More on Pearl Jewelry: http://www.xaxe.com, pearl necklace: http://xaxe.com/pearl-c-21.html, turquoise necklace: http://xaxe.com/turquoise-c-34.html </bio>

Every bride wants her wedding day to be remembered in years to come=97not only by her and the groom, but also by her friends and family as well. A wonderful way to add that special flair to any special occasion is to use pearl accents. Pearls are elegant accessories for almost any formal event and can be used in many ways. Pearl bridal jewelry is a wonderful way to incorporate pearls into your wedding theme. Even more so, pearls are an appropriate choice for most bridal gowns.

Another way to integrate pearls into your wedding is within the flower arrangements. Many florists use pearl stems as fillers in their flower arrangements. In order to ensure that the pearls coordinate well with your theme, you may consider taking your pearl bridal jewelry to the florist. This will help you find the best match for your d=E9cor. Adding pearls to your flower arrangements is not only classy, but also cost effective. Using fillers will always cut down on the cost of buying more flowers.

The wedding cake is usually the center of attention at most wedding receptions. Your cake should fall in line with the theme of your wedding. As your focal point, you should consider using pearl embellishments on your cake. This approach will not only bring out the theme of your wedding, but it will also enhance the overall appearance of your wedding cake. Think of it as pearl bridal jewelry for your cake. Just as you plan to accessorize your bridal gown, you should also accessorize your cake. Using pearls on your cake adds interest and dimension=97two important factors to consider when choosing decorations.

Dinner parties make up approximately 26.9% of all wedding receptions. Although your guests will anticipate eating delicious food at your reception, your reception tables should not go unnoticed either. You might consider using floating candles with pearls floating in the bottom of each vase. You may use loose pearls or a strand of pearls similar to your pearl bridal jewelry. Your event coordinator may be able to find your decorative pearls at a wholesale price.

Do not forget about your mother and mother-in-law-to-be. It is important to carry your pearl theme throughout the entire wedding. Choose a matching set of pearl bridal jewelry for your moms' to wear on your special day. Their bridal jewelry will not only add a special touch to your special day, but to other events in the future. Pearls are a timeless treasure that will never go out of style. <bio>Michelle Lindsey writes for Silverland Jewelry and gifts.at http://www.silverlandjewelry.com where you can shop for pearl bridal jewelry and unique bridesmaids gifts. </bio>

Pearl jewelry is a very classy yet classic look for any woman. As a kid I remember growing up watching Marge Simpson wearing her pearl necklace in every episode of The Simpson's. Any piece of pearl jewelry instantly makes an outfit and a woman appear classy. Pearls have a very regal air to them, like only the richest people in the world can afford to own them. However these days, pearls have become so affordable that almost anyone can afford them. A pearl is a very magical piece of jewelry in that it is a natural occurrence, which is painstakingly created by an oyster. Many ancient civilizations believed that the pearl's magic did not stop in its creation. The Chinese believed that pearls would fall out of the air when dragons would fight in the clouds. The ancient Romans believed that a gift of pearls would place you in the goddess Isis's good graces.

A pearl is naturally created by oysters. Not every oyster will create a pearl, but every oyster has the possibility of creating a pearl. The only way an oyster will create a pearl is if some foreign substance like a piece of sand or part of a shell gets trapped inside the oyster. Then the oyster covers the foreign object with nacre, and over time the foreign object is shaped into a pearl. In nature a pearl is not created very often. Years ago, this fact caused the prices of pearls to be very expensive. Since then pearl farms have been created to lend nature a helping hand. At these pearl farms, a small piece of mother of pearl shell is placed inside an oyster's shell to start the process of pearl formation in each oyster. Some of these oysters still do not create a pearl, but the chances of a pearl being created increases tremendously with this practice. The main pearl farms were originally located in Japan, but due to their population problems they are now facing a water pollution problem that has limited their ability to produce quality pearls in recent years. However, China has now moved into the forefront in the pearl farming market. Since the Chinese have developed their techniques the price of pearls has dropped dramatically. Now everyone can afford their favorite piece of pearl jewelry.

Now that you can afford a piece of pearl jewelry, you will need to know how to take care of it correctly. The most important thing to remember about pearl jewelry is that pearls are a natural substance, so they are very fragile. You should put your pearl jewelry on after you are completely ready to leave your house. Cologne, hair spray, and makeup can cause major damage to pearls, because they can dry them out. You should also not submerge pearl necklaces in water, because it will cause them to expand and stretch out the strand that keep them attached to each other. Most pearl jewelry is sold in a very nice silk pouch. The reason for this is pearls can be scratched very easily if they are kept next to other jewelry. For this reason make sure that you keep each piece of pearl jewelry separately in their silk pouch away from all other jewelry. If the jewelry gets dirty then try to hand clean it with a soft cloth. If your pearls start to lose their luster, then just trying wearing them, because the natural oils from your body will renew the moisture in the pearl. This will cause the pearl to shine like it was brand new again. <bio>Check out pearl jewelry at http://www.xaxe.com/ </bio>

Mom. The name brings up so many emotions in the minds of people: love, appreciation, respect and adoration. How can you ever repay her for the support and love she has given you throughout your life?

Well, it's impossible. The amount of time and sacrifice she's put in to help mold you in to what you are today isn't transferable to a monetary value. However, you can show a little bit of your appreciation in different ways.

One way is to find appropriate birthday gifts for Mom. If she's like a lot of Moms, she'll tell you not to get her anything for her birthday. But you know better!

So, what are good birthday gifts for Mom?

The options are limitless. You could get her clothes, a gift certificate for a spa or perfume. Or you could get her freshwater pearl jewelry and watch her expression as she realizes what you just gave her.

Freshwater pearl jewelry is the real deal. They come from freshwater mussels and are one of the most popular forms of pearls cultivated today. Freshwater pearls are found throughout the world, including many states in the U.S.

They have long been a favorite of women throughout the world. Jacqueline Kennedy has long been associated with the rise in pearl popularity. Her glamorous wardrobe was admired by women throughout the world and she was rarely without a string of pearls around her neck.

Natural freshwater pearl jewelry is rarely perfect in size and shape, however the beautiful coloring and sheen more than makes up for that. Freshwater pearl jewelry comes in a wide variety of rich colors like red, pink, brown, purple, blue and yellow. The variations in color are due to a variety of factors like water quality, species of mussel and their genetics.

Because freshwater pearls come in a wide-variety of colors and sizes, they can be used in a wide variety of jewelry. The oddly-shaped ones make great earrings, pendants and rings.

The rounder freshwater pearls are used to make freshwater pearl necklaces and are generally more expensive that their odd-shaped counterparts. This is because inconsistencies are easily-noticeable on necklaces.

The freshwater pearl necklaces of today come in a wide variety of lengths and colors. Many jewelers even do custom necklaces and bead the freshwater pearl necklaces by hand.

So show your mother how much you care for her on her special day. There are no better birthday gifts for Mom than the ones that show her that you love her enough to only give her the very best. Freshwater pearl jewelry is exquisite jewelry and your Mother will remember that day for years to come. <bio>Find the best birthday gifts for mom (http://www.uniquecollectiblesgifts.com) this year. It is the day when she becomes one with her beloved, and she usually shares this unforgettable moment with her closest family members and friends.

The wedding day is the perfect time for a bride to be at her most beautiful. The bride needs to be so glamorous on this special date, so wedding accessories are a necessity. Bridal jewelry may be the most important accessory which can add elegance to the bride's image.

Most designers recommend pearls as the top choice to make the bride exude radiance during her wedding. Pearls are timeless and never fail to add grace to a woman, making her the center of attention on her day.

Among pearl jewelry, a pearl necklace is most preferred by women. It helps to add that stylish look to a person's identity while also maintaining that traditional look at the same time.

In the earlier days, pearl jewelry was affordable only to the some of the richest people in the world. However, the prices have come down so dramatically these days that even the common man can afford to buy a pearl necklace today.

Pearls hold an important place in the mythology of some cultures of the world. The Chinese and Romans held the pearls in high value. For the Chinese, a pearl was a result of a fight between dragons and for the Romans, a way to placate goddess Isis.

In spite of all these beliefs, a pearl has its origin only in an oyster. A pearl is created in an oyster if a substance like a piece of sand or part of a shell gets trapped inside the oyster. This foreign object is covered with nacre by the oyster and over time gets shaped into a pearl. However, all oysters do not form pearls only a select few of them form into pears.

Some years earlier, pearls were created only by this natural process at the bottom of the ocean. But these days, increase in artificial production through pearl farms has brought down the prices of pearls significantly. China and Japan are the two countries leading in the area of artificial pearl production. In these countries, a pearl shell is placed in the oyster to start production of the new pearl.

Certain precautions are to be taken to ensure the longevity of your pearl jewelry. The following information is a listing of precautions.

•As these are very fragile, they should not be subjected to excessive wear and tear. •They should not be brought into contact with the chemicals used for make up. •They should be kept away from the contact of water. •They are liable to appearance of scratches easily. So they must be kept separate from other jewelry. •They should be cleaned only with a soft cloth.

Exposing pearls to sunlight can dry them out and make them lose their shine. However, the good thing about pearls is that by just wearing them, the moisture in them can be renewed from your body's natural oils. So pearls are worth your investment and can really make you look graceful on exclusive occasions. <bio>Linda Polansky writes about http://www.jewelryanddiamondguide.com/, BlueNile codes and Diamond coupons. </bio>

Pearls are created by living creatures called mollusks unlike gemstones which are created from within the earth.

Mollusks have a soft body and a hard shell like a snail has.

Today there are 100,000 species of mollusks they live in salt water, in fresh water and on land. Their evolution history dates back 530 million years.

If a mollusk produces a shell it can produce a pearl. Naturally occurring pearls are rare they are found in one out of every 10,000 animals. More pearls are produced today than at any other time in history. Since the 20th century the cultured pearl industry has thrived.

It has developed techniques to improve these odds.

The core from which the pearl is created begins when a grain of sand, a parasite, a fragment of shell or a fishbone wedges itself into the tissue of a mollusk. Out of millions of cores only 20% or so survive producing marketable pearls. Every pearl has its own quality and character. . If the pearl-mollusk is taken care of, regularly fed, and its temperature regulated then it is called cultivated.

The process for cultivated pearls may take one to several years.

Cultivated pearls are smoother and are a high quality.Pearls is the only gem that is created by a living organism.

All pearls are different from each other. They have been worn for more than 4,000 years. The pearl was the first gem to be discovered and is known as the Queen of Gems. Pearls can be found in many shapes and colors not just white.

A small grain of sand or grit is placed inside the muscle tissue of an oyster or other mollusks in order to produce cultured pearls. The oyster then begins discharging a substance Nacre or mother of pearl, this is formed around the grit in order to reduce the irritant, and it grows in size until it forms a pearl. Mother of pearl lines the inside of the shell. Most pearls on the market today are cultured pearls; real pearls are rare and expensive. Luster, surface condition, , shape, color and size determine the quality of Cultured pearls, matching of quality in a strand of pearls is also important.

Pearls can be spherical, cylindrical, elliptical, and even cubical. They come in many colors but the most highly valued are cream, black, white and rose. The Indian rose pearls are the most esteemed.

Color varies according to the environment of the mollusk and its species.

Unlike other gems, pearls are not cut or polished. They are injured by heat and acids as organic products they are soft and subject to decay.

White is the most common color for fresh water pearls but they can be found in yellow salmon, pink, , bronze, lavender, , green, cream, blue, copper brown, silvery white, purple red and white.

Natural pearls are not as desirable as cultured pearls; they tend to be irregular in shape. Natural pearls that have a very symmetrical shape and are large in size (diameter) are extremely rare. It can take many years of near-perfect conditions for natural pearls to form in nature and make a significant gain in size<bio>Jayne Waldorf lives in England with her husband. If you would like to learn more about wedding jewelry and other wedding goods please visit Jayne's web site Waldorf Elite today</bio>

With fashions returning to encompass suits and dressier jackets pearls are also making a comeback in fashion. While pearl jewelry making may not look all that complicated there are a few tricks to know to make it better. With the expense of pearls there really is no easy way to use them in jewelry and still have a quality piece of jewelry.

Necklaces and bracelets are probably the most sought after pieces of jewelry and pearl jewelry making will test your patience as you string the beads. You choice is always whether to tie a knot between each bead or not, but there are two good reasons to do so. First, having a knot between each one prevents them from hitting together and getting scratched or broken. The second reason is that if the string breaks you will usually only lose one pearl instead of them all.

How many pearls you will have to string for a necklace will depend on the size of the pearls and size of the necklace to are making. A 16-inch necklace will be typical with the length extending to 18 inches once the clasps have been added. The number of pearls needed will be determined by their size. Most of those into pearl jewelry making will use one size of pearl, usually about six millimeter, but there are others who use larger, or smaller ones.

Buying Pre-Drilled Pearls Eliminates Work

When you buy pearls for your jewelry there are suppliers who sell them already drilled. At the cost difference many choose to pay the extra for pre-drilled while others believe pearl jewelry making involves all aspects of working with the pieces. If you plan to drill your own you may start out with a hand drill and single-size bit. Once you decided you like what you are doing, you may go with an electric drill to make the process faster.

When it comes to knotting the pearls, whether on a necklace or bracelet, pearl jewelry making it is going to take time to do it right. Each pearl will need to be knotted with the knot drawn snug to the pearl. It should not be too tight, simply snug, or you risk the chance of breaking the cord. Typically, a tri-cord string is used and what size will depend on the size of the pearls and the size of the hole drilled through them. <bio>Ann Mariera writes articles about family life and health issues.
Wouldn't it be nice to find real pearls from edible oysters? That would be the day when eating edible oysters would bring in not only food for the table but also pearl for jewelry. However, such thing is next to impossible considering that pearls do not grow in edible oysters.

Pearls are produced by mollusks including oysters, mussels and clams. However, mussels and clams rarely produce pearls while oysters commonly produce pearls no matter if they are in freshwater or in saltwater.

The idea that pearls are produced from sand intruding into the shell of an oyster is false. Sand is an inorganic material while pearls are formed by organic materials that are caught inside the oyster. As a defense mechanism, the oyster wraps the organic material with a substance called nacre, resulting to what is known as mother of pearl.

Most people believe that pearls should have an imperfect form since they are products of nature. However, there are those that are formed perfectly and these are considered very valuable pearls. Unlike the common belief that pearls are usually white, pearls come in various colors like black, green, red and even blue. Different-colored pearls can be found all over the world but only the South Pacific has produced black pearls.

Instead of waiting for the natural occurrence of pearls, there are people who culture pearls in the same manner that they are naturally formed. However, the organic irritants are intentionally inserted through a crack in the oyster's shell. Natural pearls are however more expensive than cultured pearls because of their rarity.

Among the kinds of pearls are cultured pearls either in saltwater or freshwater; South Sea pearls that are produced by the silver lipped oysters are rare pearls that are cultured in Australia and are usually very large; South Sea pearls produced by golden lipped oysters and are cultured in Indonesia and Tahitian pearls or black pearls that are produced by black lipped oysters and are cultured in Cook Islands or in the French Polynesia.

So how can one determine if a pearl is real or an imitation? Real pearls tend to feel sandy when rubbed along the edge of the front teeth while imitation pearls fell smooth.

Aside from the kinds of oyster from which pearls are produced, the quality of pearls is determined according to their luster or shine. Thick nacres that have been left in the water longer are generally shinier. The shape of a pearl is also important and the rounder the pearl, the better. The larger the pearl, the rarer they are and the more expensive.

Pearls are generally used as pieces of jewelry but they are also used in making cosmetics. Powdered pearl that is made from shells and pearls of not so good quality is said to produce paler skin with a natural glow. Pearl cosmetics are actually being exported by many countries including China to the Unites States. <bio>The author is a regular contributor to http://www.dealsonpearls.com where more information about pearl bracelets, rings, necklaces and other types of jewelry is available. </bio>

Not only are pearls the birthstone for the month of June, but they are also very popular accessories for both a bride and her wedding party. And, coincidentally, June is the most popular month for tying the knot. Pearls are thought to symbolize health and longevity, which make them the perfect gemstone for celebrating either a birthday or a wedding.

By definition, a pearl is a highly prized gem formed within the shell of an oyster or other mollusk. Although they are available in many shapes, sizes and colorations, pearls are classic in any form. In today's jewelry market, pearls can be both classic and modern. At Almost Diamonds, a popular online retailer specializing in sterling silver jewelry, buyers are sure to find a `pearl' of a design. From the classic stud style to dangle earrings and breathtaking necklaces that include a cubic and pearl cross set in sterling silver, there is something for everyone and every style.

When it comes to shopping for pearls, affordability is a big concern. Because Almost Diamonds offers beautiful designs set in sterling silver and a variety of both freshwater and faux pearls, the designs remain just as easy on the wallet as they are on the eyes. For the bride who wants `something new' or the mother of the bride who wants to start a new tradition by purchasing a piece of jewelry and lending it to her daughter as `something borrowed,' pearl jewelry is ideal. For the birthday girl who celebrates in June, pearls are the perfect gift to give as you wish someone another healthy year and a long and happy life. As mentioned earlier, pearls do symbolize health and longevity.

Although white pearls remain the classic when it comes to pearls, a more modern approach to jewelry design now includes black, pink and even peach colorations. These pearls offer the same shapes and sizes as the white pearl, but are created to spruce up a jewelry wardrobe through colors and trendsetting fashion. Speaking of fashion, pearl jewelry can be worn with practically any outfit. Whether you choose to pair your favorite pearl necklace with a white shirt and jeans or you enjoy a more dramatic look with a turtleneck and a pair of dangle earrings, you can't go wrong with a classic. If you have dinner plans or are spending the evening on the dance floor, pearl jewelry will look ideal with your favorite black dress or business suit. From the boardroom to the dance floor and even the grocery store, pearls are always in style.

As women, we enjoy purchasing jewelry that will make us look great and still allow us to stay within our budget. Additionally, it's always a good idea to spend your money where you know the design is not one that's here today and gone tomorrow. Pearls have been in fashion for years and they continue to be a staple in every collection. If you want something that will not go out of style, but is still set in a precious metal, such as sterling silver, give the gift of pearl jewelry to someone else or treat yourself to one of the most traditional gems in existence. <bio>For more information on pearl jewelry and sterling silver jewelry, visit Almost Diamonds at http://www.almostdiamonds.com </bio>

Drop pearl earrings combine the elegance of the pearl with the charming teardrop design of the precious metal. It is perfect for casual get up but may also look well with the most formal dresses.

Jewelry, based on certain characteristics like shape, accentuates a woman's features so there are some things to keep in mind when shopping for drop pearl earrings.

1. Shape Matters

Earrings highlight the face of the one wearing it so it is critical to choose the right kind of pair to wear.

With drop pearl earrings, the pearl is the center of attention when one looks at the jewelry. Depending on their design, pearl earrings can flatter or exaggerate the shape of the face. Pearl earrings that have a drop-pendant design bring the attention of viewers downwards to the neck and away from the face, making the wearer seem taller and slimmer.

2. Precious Pearls

Pearls on jewelry have traversed long distances from the mollusks in the ocean floor to the artistic hands of the jeweler. No two pearls look the same making it rare and a perfect choice to make jewelry.

Only 20 among 8000 species of mollusks can produce pearls regularly. The varying shapes and sizes of these natural pearls are very irregular which makes them difficult to incorporate in the design when making jewelry. Artificial methods have been designed to produce cultured pearls. The production of cultured pearls is very ideal because it allows one to influence the shape and size of the pearl.

3. Quality of Pearls

Like any jewelry, drop pearl earrings is more than a fashion accessory. It is both a cherished collection and an investment that would last a lifetime.

The price of drop pearl earrings depends on the color, size, shape, luster, nacre, and texture of the pearl.

Pearls come in a range of colors from white, black, gold, silver, green, or cream. It primarily depends on the kind of mollusk which produced the pearl and the conditions of the water. Cultured pearls may vary on color depending on the nucleus which was used to stimulate its production.

The most expensive pearls are the perfectly round pearls. The shapes vary and may actually depend on personal preference or design requirements. Drop pearl earrings use pearls that are shaped like tear drops. The drop pearl earrings are also highly valued like spherical ones.

The price is also determined by the size of the pearls. The general rule of thumb when shopping is that the bigger the pearl, the higher the price. Most pearls have a diameter of 6.5 to 7.5 millimeters. There are also other factors which may affect the price. For instance, a cherry-sized pearl may cost lower if it lacks luster and has lots of imperfections.

Nacre refers to the substance which composes pearls. This affects the luster and color of the pearls. Thicker nacre makes a pearl more expensive.

The quality of a pearl is also reflected on its surface, which should not have bumps, spots, and discoloration. The surface should also be clean and smooth.

4. Taking Care of an Investment

Drop pearl earrings are an excellent investment. Like any other prized asset, pearl earrings must be well taken care of. It is best to placed them in a separate container since other harder gems may scratch their surface or crack them. Moreover, when wearing them, pearls should not be in contact with cosmetics or perfumes which can easily be absorbed and discolor them.<bio>Like other pearl jewelry, taking care of your pearl earrings will ensure its value and longevity.
Practically every woman I know loves pearls. No one can deny it. Least of all, not the women themselves. There's precious little that they enjoy more than going out on the town decked in their best clothes and wearing their most stunning jewelry.

If there's one staple in jewelry for formal evening affairs, it has to be pearls.

If you ask me, one pearl just looks like the others. Some are shinier than others or bigger than most, but they look the same to me. As it turns out, there are different classes of pearls as well. For my wife's birthday, I set out to buy her a nice pearl necklace and was confronted by a host of different choices. Since I'm one of those careful shoppers who love to compare, I went to different jewelry shops asking everything I could from the type of pearls available to how much they are worth. I got different answers from different places, except when I asked one thing. To the question, "what's the best kind of pearl that you have?" Most of the time, the answer always was 'Mikimoto pearls'.

After doing some quick research on the internet, I realized that Mikimoto pearl necklaces are the top of the line as far as these little round cultured wonders go. They will make any woman's face light up and smile. I was really impressed when they placed the Mikimoto pearls right beside the other types of pearls. The contrast was simply stunning. The Mikimoto pearls just seem shinier and fuller, more solid looking. And when you touch them, their texture seems smoother and firmer to the touch. I'm already anticipating my wife's face when I give the pearls.

There was one problem that dawned on me, though. I wondered, if I got my wife a Mikimoto pearl necklace this year, what would I get her next year? Of course, I will have to top this year's gift, wouldn't I? They're a pretty hard act to follow. And all of a sudden, I knew what to do. On her next birthday, I'll just get her a Mikimoto pearl bracelet and earrings. Problem solved. <bio>Kadence Buchanan writes articles for http://ijewelrycenter.com/ - In addition, Kadence also writes articles for http://ipetcentral.net/ and http://universeofbeauty.net/ </bio>

The perception of beauty greatly varies among individuals. Thus, some people may prefer perfectly round pearls, while other may prefer baroque pearls. Here are some of the reasons why some people choose irregularly shaped pearls.

1. Some people like to be different

Wearing pearls is a part of dressing up to impress. Some people like to wear just one piece of jewelry like a ring, necklace, or a pair of pearl earrings. There are also individuals who take pleasure in being different from the usual. Their taste is on the more radical side. Baroque pearls cater to these personality types. In a way, baroque pearls are a type of informal jewelry. Because of their rugged look, they can be very appealing to some people who don't like to go for a very polished or symmetrical look.

2. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

When you happen to see a catalog of the vivid and perfect color combinations of these baroque pearls, it will not matter that the pearl standards call it baroque. You will notice that despite the irregular shapes, the finished product is beautiful.

It can be used for both casual and formal surroundings, but whichever setting you may want to wear these pearls in, you will definitely stand out. Baroque pearls give the aura of confidence and show that not all deformed things are unlovely. Baroque pearls are well-loved by many as they fit many different personalities and looks.

3. Baroque pearls are affordable

Here is the best deal that you can get from baroque pearls. It is economically favorable for those people who want to wear pearls but do not have the money to indulge in expensive ones. When you go shopping for baroque jewelry you can purchase a set of earrings, necklace and bracelet and maybe a ring for a lesser amount than getting one big and perfectly round pearl ring.

It is true that shape of the pearl directly affects the selling price. However, the designs of baroque jewelry make up for its esteemed value. Its patterns and color undertones are a feast for the eyes. In the addition, because of its irregular shape, crafting a piece of jewelry made of baroque pearls is a challenge and the designs that are made are one of a kind.

When choosing baroque pearls, see to it that they have at least a recognizable shape whether, petal shaped, tear shaped, ovoid shape or other groups of shapes that exist. It need not be perfectly the same though.

There are many available color mixes with baroque jewels, like red and white interlace, pink and white combinations, and many others. Regarding the choice of color, get the pearl jewelry which complements your skin tone. Pink and rose colors are best suited for white skin, gray, black and other darker shades of colors will suit darker-skinned individuals.

Sometimes it is enough to wear one or two pieces of matching pearl jewelry at one time. You can go for a combination of matching pearl ring and pearl necklace, or pearl earrings and pearl bracelet duo. Mix and match, but it is not advisable to wear all of them at once.<bio>The baroque pearl jewelry may overpower the total personality of the individual. Wear any pearl jewelry you like as long you're not breaking any rules of style.
Everybody likes to present themselves in a unique form. They have their own style. Clothing and jewellery are the two best ways to present oneself. An elegant pearl piece looks gorgeous on anyone irrespective to look, height and figure. Pearl jewellery acts as a very flexible wearing in the wardrobe.

Wearing clothes are bounded with a number of rules as one has to consider the garment, the place, color of the dress according to the skin tone etc. But wearing jewellery is bound with no rules. A simple pearl beaded necklace looks elegant on any type of event and different costumes. Jewelry adds to the way that you dress. It gives a complete look. The craze of pearls is seen even today. Pearls look great in any form. It may be ring, necklace, anklets or bangles. Fashion of wearing pearls is never out. It is an evergreen material and can be adorned any time round the year.

A pearl enriches one's beauty with gold, silver and white polish. Even if accompanied with diamond or any other kind of gem it is able to maintain its charm. Pearls are available with the wide variety. There are plenty of sizes and colors in pearl. The shapes in which pearls are generally seen are round, square, button, drop, oval etc. Round pearls are difficult to find, but they give a great look when adorned in a piece of jewelery. Pearls also are available in a variety of lengths such as collar which is 10 to 13 inches long, choker which is 16 to 18 inches long, princess which is 17 to 20 inches long etc.

Pearls are made naturally or cultivated. Now days they have been cultivated in a number of countries. Natural pearls are quite expensive but cultured once are at affordable rates. Cultivated pearls can either be made of fresh water or salt water. There are three types of salt water pearls- the Akoya, South Sea, Tahitian. Mikimoto ranges highest in the quality, Akoya is white, silver or cream in color and others are of darker shade. These pearls are valuable than the fresh water pearls. Pearl jewellery may cost more than diamond jewellery. It is life time treasure which can be passed from generation to generation.

It is very important to choose the right kind of pearl. Some important observances should be kept in mind while purchasing it. Luster of the pearl is the most important point which has to be focused on. The quality of the pearl can be judged by the kind the luster it has. One should be able to see the reflection on the pearl. The surface of the pearl should not be with any kind of unevenness, spots etc. To get the idea of the thickness one can rub the pearl on the teeth. If there is a rough feel it has good thickness.

It is recommended that the young should prefer wearing a small piece of pearl to give a delicate look. The older ones can prefer long sized pearl to enhance their personality. <bio>Rock Ren is the owner of http://xaxe.com group.
From Audrey Hepburn and the English Crown Jewels to long necklaces done by fashion giant Chanel, there is absolutely no doubt to the timelessness of a great pearl jewelry. Pearls are a wonder of nature, like most jewels are. Born from an irritation in the inner lining of mollusks (oysters and pearl mussels create pearls that are considered valuable); it becomes something beautiful and spectacular. There are different kinds of pearls, they come in different shapes, sizes and colors. The rounder the pearl is the rarer and much more expensive it tends to be. Pearls are either salt water or fresh water pearls, cultured or natural. The environment of which the pearl is created greatly contributes to how a pearl will turn out.

STORAGE =96 Pearl jewelry cannot be haphazardly thrown in with the other jewelry in your armoire. Pearls have a softer surface compared to other jewelry. In fact, pearls are located in the lowest rung when it comes to hardness with diamonds being at the top. So, if you throw your pearls with other jewelry that contains sapphires, rubies, emeralds, etc. or even gold links that have sharp edges on them, you are endangering your pearls from getting scratched or damaged. The best thing to do is to put the pearls in a separate container. If you do not have the luxury, the time or the space to store your jewels separately, then you could get inexpensive felt or velvet pouches that you can buy in craft and fabric stores. Keep your pearls in these pouches so that they do not get scratched by harder gemstones.

CLEANING =96 There are a lot of jewelry cleaners that are available in the market. DON'T use them with your pearls. Again, as said, pearls have a softer cover in comparison to other gems. Commercial jewelry cleaners can damage the surface of your pearls and cause them to loose their luster. When you need to clean your pearls, the best thing to do is to clean them with a dilute solution of soap and water. This will help remove the dirt and still keep your pearls intact. For better results, use warm water when cleaning them and soak them for at least 10 minutes. Don't leave them on too long because it can also damage the pearl and make it loose its luster. Another tip that will keep the pearl clean and help it keep its shine longer is to put on your perfume first before putting on the pearl. This way, you do not get any of the oil and the alcohol from the perfume directly on the pearls.

MAKING THEM LAST =96 Pearls need to be restrung at least every year or when the string they are attached to becomes frayed. Re-stringing pearls help avoid a fiasco of having your pearls rain down all over your floor with you getting on your knees looking for each individual piece. Restringing can be done by a professional; your local jeweler can probably do the job for you. <bio>If you enjoy reading this, you may enjoy to read more about http://www.brightonjewelry.net and http://www.jaredjewelers.net or http://www.mykayjewelers.com </bio>

Though pearls are common as parts of more expensive jewelries, they were for long, have been reserved only for the richest people of the noblest standards. Before 1900s, a single pearl necklace can never be equated to anything. It is known to be been the most expensive stone throughout history and was hailed as the Queen of Pearls.

Who first discovered pearl and recognized its uniqueness are questions that are still to be answered. But according to George Frederick Kunz, the first American gemologist firmly stated his belief that the first people who appreciated pearls and brought them to market is an ancient fish eating tribe which existed somewhere in the Indian coast.

And since the first discovery of the pearls, its glory has continued until the present age. Traces of pearls in history tell us that it has been well credited in many of the ancient worlds, specifically ion China, India, Egypt, and the Roman Empire.

The Romans are notably the craziest people over pearls. This is marked by specific times in Roman history when pearls played the central part. The most celebrated of these is the banquet in Cleopatra's hall.

To convince Mark Antony that Egypt is above conquest, she showcased her land's wealth and heritage by giving the most expensive dinner in all history. During the said dinner, Queen Cleopatra crushed a piece of a large pearl from a pair of pearl earrings. She dissolved the pearl in a goblet of wine or vinegar and drank the liquid down. This account ended with Mark Antony declining the dinner and the matching pearl earring. He then gave the admittance that the queen won.

The popularity of pearls rose at the height of the Roman era. On one account by Suetonius, he mentioned that the General Vitellius sold a single pearl earring and used the money to finance an entire roman army campaign.

The Romans are the craziest with regards to pearls but the Arabs have the deepest love for the gem. This affection over the pearl is evident in the Koran, especially in the section where the Paradise is being described.

All these craze on pearls had run down in history due to the gem's rarity. However, by the turn of the century, pearls became practically a common jewelry. Most present users actually no longer appreciate the values of their pearl necklaces, pearl earrings and the likes. This is brought forth by the mass production that has revolutionized the status of the most valued gem.

The great irony in the most glorified gem is that even the lesser priced cultured pearl rivals the quality of the most expensive natural pearl there is. In a sense, its value was lost over the "synthetically" produced pearls. Though this became a very welcomed source of the rare pearls, this resulted to unfair treatment of the once exulted gem.

The major manufacturers of these cultured pearls are Japan and China. Kokichi Mikimoto developed a technique of producing the gem "on demand". But while he painstakingly created his methods, Tatsuhei Mise and government biologist Tokichi Nishikawa independently created the similar process of pearl culturing.

Chinese producers adopted their methods, and the 1970s astounded the world with the immense number of literally "cheap" pearls. Thus the coming of relatively cheap pearl earrings, necklaces, pendants and other pearl accessories.

The glory has ended and new trends of pearl production have arrived. So what's in store for pearls now? About The Author: Robert Thatcher is a freelance publisher based in Cupertino, California.
Once you know the right color of pearl suitable for your complexion and hair color, it is time to figure out the sort of pearl necklaces, bracelets and earrings would be ideal to your age, face and neck type, and personality, and the occasions on which you want to wear them.

The younger you are, the more attention you want to draw to your neck, because nothings shows off youth to a better advantage than an elegant string of small pearls. Try the 10 to 13 inch long collar necklaces, and pair them with small pearl droplets for earrings, absolutely great for casual wear. If you have a longish or heart-shaped face, dangling pearls would complement you perfectly. For a round or square face, studs are better. Pearl chokers are classic for formal wear, be it a wedding or dinner, and would do any gown or feminine blouse proud on a glamorous evening.

For those in their prime or graceful old age, the ideal length of a pearl necklace would be 18 to 24 inches or a Princess pearl necklace, with the pendant hanging two or more inches below the neckline. A chunkier pendant would look nice, as would bigger sizes of pearls. Other necklaces for this age group would be the Matinee pearl necklace at 20 to 24 inches which teams well with a business suit or a dress, or alternatively, an Opera pearl necklace which is 28 to 34 inches and is suitable when you want to be dressier. These longer necklaces can be teamed with studs, and they look nice with pantsuits as well. Wide bracelets with bigger pearls are also ideal for an older woman.

Of course, whatever your age, you need to keep in mind your neck type while selecting your pearl necklace. For a shorter neck you should have strands of pearls two inches below the collarbone to make your neck look longer. For heavier necks, wear longer strands, because they help give you length instead of girth. For long and thin necks, triple strands of pearls with the shortest hugging the base of your neck column would be ideal. On the other hand, with a bony neck, take attention away from the neck by having strands lower. Studs for shorter and heavier necks, and danglers for long necks would be the rule for earrings.

Your personality should also guide the pearls you choose, white or yellow pearls in a demure collar design may be a better option for a hard-hitting executive at work, than a flushed pink Princess. If you are more of the funky type and want to wear pearls semi-formally, a good idea would be to go for baroque pearls which are irregular, non-spherical in shape, or have bumps and ridges. Strung together innovatively with gold or silver wire, these form great offbeat organic jewelry.

Pearls are as versatile as you want to make them, choose pearl jewelry that is crafted to bring out your features and attitude to their best advantage. <bio>Rock Ren is the owner of http://xaxe.com group.
What Is Costume Vintage Jewelry?

Tell me about costume jewelry

Vintage jewelry that is also costume is made to look like it is real. The main difference is that it is a fake or faux piece of jewelry. These jewelry items look so real that a jeweler would be the only one able to tell that it isn't real. These pieces are rings, necklaces brooches and other jewelry items that don't cost a lot to make or to buy. That is also a reason that it is called costume, is that it isn't real. It is also called costume, because it can also be used on a costume. This vintage jewelry is inexpensive to own, but looks very real and expensive to anyone that doesn't know that it is a piece of costume jewelry.

Give me an example say of a costume ring.

A vintage jewelry costume ring can be described as a very real looking ring that is an absolute fake. Let me describe a costume ring to you. Let's say that you have an antique ring with a beautiful carnelian oval stone set in it. It is a perfect fit and gold to the hilt. Is it real? No! The carnelian is nothing more than paste, the gold is a fake gold and best of all, it costs nothing like a real vintage jewelry piece that could cost much more and possibly worth a lot more than the fake ring. And if it is stolen, you are not out a lot of money.

Let's look at Brooches.

When looking at vintage jewelry that is also costume, you need to take into consideration that the piece is a fake piece and worth nowhere near what a real one would cost. When looking at brooches of this sort, you can appreciate the fine craftsmanship and know that a real piece would set you back a pretty penny. You can get an inexpensive costume brooch for next to nothing and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing that people will compliment you on this piece of vintage jewelry. They don't know that you paid a small price for this brooch and that it isn't worth millions.

How about a funky necklace?

Necklaces in vintage jewelry that are also costume are wonderful pieces of art that can be worn without fear. These funky and fashionable necklaces are a funky throwback to the age of Aquarius for example. These big and bold necklaces are full of fun and brilliant color and are dynamite to wear with denims and a knit shirt for example. With vintage jewelry of this type you will always have a piece of fun, funky jewelry that can be worn anytime and anywhere. These are bold colors and bold designs that are pure 1960's and enjoyable to wear. They don't cost a fortune and look expensive to boot. They are fabulous knock offs of other pieces of jewelry that are much more expensive. They can also be lost or stolen without breaking the bank.<bio>Know what's always in style? Pearl Jewelry.
