Many people think that the only symptoms of menopause that you need to concern yourself with are the physical symptoms, but this is far from the truth.

There are certain psychological symptoms of menopause that affects a lot of women. Instead of being scared or worried about these psychological symptoms of menopause, it is important for you to know them, so as to know what to expect and how to handle them.

Such psychological symptoms may include:

Depression

There is the tendency of getting depressed every now and then when you are approaching your menopause. This depression in some women is as a result of the way they think about menopause. Some women have a very negative impression about menopause and this causes them to always feel depressed. For women who have a great sex life, they could be depressed thinking menopause is an end to the great sex they use to have. If you are one of such women, change your thinking because it isn't true that menopause signals an end to a great sex life. You can still enjoy sex even when you get to menopause period.

Mood swings and emotional flare-ups

Many women approaching their menopause also experience mood swings and emotional flare-ups every now and then. While this can be unconsciously, in some cases it is caused by the negative impression women have about menopause. In a society like ours, the negative views people have about menopause hasn't helped matters. Always think positively about menopause and this symptom will reduce drastically.

Other psychological symptoms of menopause include weepiness and memory lapses.

The absolutely best way of reducing these psychological symptoms of menopause is to fill your mind with positive thoughts about menopause. See menopause as a great stage in life that MUST come upon every woman. If you have negative thoughts about menopause, erase such thoughts from your mind.

Also, note that the more negative you think about anything in your life, including menopause, the worse you will feel. Negative thoughts can even lead to serious physical ailment, so always think positively about menopause. <bio>By Bill Johnson Menopause Stress Menopause Diet http://menopause-relief-and-treatments.info </bio>

There have been debates in many places about some women who insist that they don't experience any form of symptoms prior to menopause.

I know it's difficult to believe that these women are stating this, especially when you are aware that you do experience painful symptoms of menopause. Don't be quick to dismiss such claims, because it really happens around the globe!

While most women will experience some symptoms of menopause, it is critical for you to understand that not all women will experience the same symptoms. The fact remains that every woman's body is different from another woman. Nothing works the exact same way in every woman.

Every woman has a different life style, eat different products, exercises or not. Everything they do influence their body.

That's why it is perfectly normal when such women who don't experience symptoms of menopause just gradually slip into it with ease.

Whatever some people have learned menopause does not occur suddenly!

What happens is this; as all women mature and pass through their reproductive years (usually from as early as 15 years to 45 years - depending on the women in question), an egg is released each and every month with the aim of getting fertilized to form a child.

When this fertilization does not take place, this results in menstruation. As this occurs every month, the supplies of eggs gradually decrease because there are a maximum number of ovarian follicles in every woman that develop into eggs.

When the number of eggs has been exhausted, this finally brings about menopause and at this stage, a woman is no longer able to have children.

For women who say they don't experience any symptoms, this is true. They simply get into the stage when they stop menstruating before they notice that they have reached menopause. <bio>Want to Discover 4 Menopause Secrets? http://menopause-symptoms-and-relief.info http://menopause-treatment-tips.info http://the-great-menopause-relief.info </bio>

While thinking about the symptoms of menopause, it is important for you to know and understand that these symptoms differ from women to women. Certain factors like difference in diet and nutrition, general health and health care, etc all affect the way women experience menopause.

The general physical symptoms of most women approaching or experiencing menopause include:

Longer menstrual periods

For a woman who usually has short menstrual periods of, say, 4 days, this can increase to more days. When this occurs, it could be one of the symptoms that she is approaching her menopause. When you notice that this is happening to you and you are approaching your late 40s, there is nothing to worry about. Simply know that this is a symptom of menopause.

Heavier menstrual flows

Some women also notice that their menstrual flows are now heavier than usual. If this happens to you and you are sure that nothing else is wrong with you physically, then know that you could be approaching your menopause, especially if the age is right. If the age is not right, then you are not approaching menopause.

Spotting

Spotting is the situation whereby little drops of blood comes out during the time when you are supposed to be menstruating. When this occurs, it could be a sign of menopause. First, check whether you could be pregnant or not. If not, and if it continues, then it could be a sign of menopause.

Menstrual periods irregularity

There is also the tendency that you will experience general menstrual periods irregularity when you are approaching menopause. When this happens and you know nothing is wrong with you health wise, then it is a symptom of menopause.

Lack of interest in sex

Lack of interest in sex for most women in menopause occurs partly because there is now less fun when having sex. This is because as menopause happens, the estrogen levels decline, thereby making the vaginal walls less elastic and thinner. This eventually leads to pain or discomfort during sex. To solve this problem, there is the need for sufficient vaginal lubrication for women who are experiencing menopause and still want to enjoy sex with their partners. <bio>By Bill Johnson menopause-relief-tips.info menopause-treatments-tips.info </bio>

As sure as death and taxes, menopause will occur to every woman at a certain point in their lives. It is a very traumatic experience for every woman that experiences it.

Technically, menopause is the stage in a woman's life when her body stops producing eggs and her ability to bear children ends.

Although menopause usually takes place between the ages of forty to fifty years old, it can occur at anytime in a woman's life.

There are many symptoms of menopause. Some are uncomfortable, such as hot and cold sweats, and irregularity in sleeping, as well as weight gain and muscle pain. The more moderate symptoms include mood swings, irritability, becoming increasingly emotional or depression.

Many women feel that menopause is the worst thing in the world. They can no longer bear children and they fall into a deep depression. There are other women who welcome menopause. With their families and careers established, they embrace the fact that they will no longer have to deal with monthly cramps and all that goes with it.

The most important thing that a woman can do to get through menopause is to be informed. Four thousand women start menopause every day. More than one third of these women have no idea what is happening to them.

There are many treatments for the symptoms of menopause. Some involve the use of estrogen to replace what the body has lost. Anti-depressants are prescribed when a woman has emotional issues that she cannot deal with.

There are some women who have chosen to use natural and herbal remedies to ease the symptoms of menopause. However, there are some herbal remedies that can counteract medication for other illnesses. This makes it crucial that you discuss anything that you intend to take with your doctor.

Menopause does not have to be the worst time in a woman's life. It is a journey into the next plain of life. By working with your doctor, you can greatly reduce the symptoms of menopause and make them more manageable. <bio>http://www.menopausediscuss.com </bio>

What Is Menopause?

As the menopause approaches, there is a decrease in estrogen production by the body. This most often happens between the ages of 45 and 55. This shift in hormone balance affects nearly every body system and causes a mixture of symptoms. Fortunately, alternative therapy offers some solutions to these symptoms.

As menopause symptoms can vary massively from woman to woman, it can sometimes be hard to tell whether they are produced by menopause or another health issue. For example, symptoms of low blood sugar and those of menopause can sometimes be confused. Hot flashes and variations in mood can accompany low blood sugar as well as menopause.

Menopause Symptoms

The commonest menopause symptoms include:

* Hot flashes, referred to hot flushes in the UK * Irritability, anger and frustration * Night sweats * Fatigue or a drained feeling * Loss of libido * Vaginal dryness * Insomnia * Depression (while menopause is not thought to be responsible for depression the two can occur at the same time) * Foggy thinking * Reduced appetite * Rapid heart beat (palpitations) * Diminished skin elasticity * Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) * Panic attacks

Some other conditions can be aggravated during menopause which are not so noticeable. These include:

* Arteriosclerosis, and * Osteoporosis

Can Anything Be Done About Menopause Symptoms?

Menopause isn't life threatening but some have reported that it can feel like it is, because menopause symptoms can be so frustrating! Happily, various measures can be undertaken to help head off menopause symptoms using a programme of natural healthcare. You can create this programme yourself by using the ideas in this article as a starting point. If practical, involve experienced practitioners in complementary therapy for advice and treatment.

Your healthcare programme should include diet, exercise, relaxation and herbal or homoeopathic remedies. Acupuncture can also be very helpful at this time. A programme of this kind can be most worthwhile at menopause, helping you to deal proactively with the symptoms in a regulated fashion.

Herbs such as agnus castus and dong quai have a long history of helping women. However, remember that these will give optimal benefits when used as part of a holistic approach to healthcare - 'your programme'.

Natural Healthcare For Menopause Symptoms

When menopause symptoms begin consider using natural methods to help you manage it. For best results, develop your own 'programme' of measures and follow it conscientiously. <bio>Max Hill has been a practitioner in natural healthcare for over 20 years.
As a woman who wants to know about the symptoms of menopause, it is important to have a deeper understanding of what menopause really is. This deeper understanding will give you more insight into what to expect as menopause starts.

There are many women who don't have all the true information about menopause, except some myths and none-fact information about menopause. Such information only ends up confusing you, instead of helping you.

Menopause is simply the permanent end to menstruation of women. The time that this occurs varies from women to women. In the United States, for example, most women start experiencing menopause from their late 40s. Many other women, start experiencing menopause in their early 50s.

While some women happily and patiently look forward to it, others get scared of it. For those who look forward to it, they could be tired of monthly menstruation and look forward to menopause knowing they would no longer menstruate. This is especially true for ladies who always have painful menstrual periods.

For those who get scared of it, they could still be expecting to bear children and so don't want menopause since it will signal an end to child bearing.

Whichever category you fall into, menopause signals the end of your ability as a lady to bear children. Menopause in most women is preceded by 10 to 15 years during which the ovaries gradually stop producing eggs and sex hormones. This period is also known as the climacteric period.

Instead of worrying stiff about when menopause will start and the symptoms, it's more important to start preparing your mind and body for it. If you need to bear children, start early before your late 40s and early 50s. This will ensure you get done with child bearing before menopause catches up with you. <bio>Want to Discover 4 Menopause Secrets? http://menopause-diet-and-relief.info http://natural-menopause-relief-tips.info http://menopause-relief-and-diet.info </bio>

Normally, women experience the first symptoms of menopause during their late thirties and early forties. Menopause is a natural occurrence and a gradual transition occurring in every woman. Menopause is not any disease or illness but a total cessation of menstrual cycles for twelve months or more. Some women experience first symptoms of menopause earlier than other women do.

Early development of first symptoms of menopause could be due to higher stress levels, unhealthy lifestyle, lack of regular exercise, irregular eating patterns, insufficient consumption of healthy foods, etc. The most prominent first symptoms of menopause are irregular menstrual cycles. Menstrual flow during such period could be very high or extremely low.

While you experience the first symptoms of menopause, your menstrual cycles could occur frequently within a fortnight or sometimes, you miss your periods for over a full month too. There could be widening gap between menstrual periods overtime.

There is also no set limit over the menstrual flow, sometimes it could be for three to five days while sometimes it could continue for more than a week. The first symptoms of menopause could lead to total disruption in your regular and systematic menstrual cycles.

Other common first symptoms of menopause include tenderness in breasts, inability to handle stress, lapse of memory and other nervous problems like depression, anxiety, confusing thoughts, mood swings, etc. It is common to note the setting in of the first symptoms of menopause with a gain in your body weight. Your body tends to retain more water and you seem to bloat.

Changes in hormone levels in your body indicate the first symptoms of menopause. Such hormonal changes are often the cause for your low energy levels and a lower drive to face the challenges in life. In other words, you seem to lack sufficient interest in life. These hormonal changes are also the cause behind your sudden hot flashes, which are the most common first symptoms of menopause.

You experience such sudden hot flashes at any time, more often at night. There is no method to predict occurrence of these first symptoms of menopause. More than forty percent of women having regular menstrual cycles also experience such hot flashes in their forties. These are therefore a prelude to the first symptoms of menopause.

There is no particular time limit for occurrence of such hot flashes. Around eighty percent of women experience hot flashes for around five years while around ten percent of women experience it for ten years too. Although there is nothing to predict their occurrence or lapse, these first symptoms of menopause definitely decrease overtime. <bio>Jodie Phillips is the owner of several Women's Health-related websites at http://nail-fungus.gaodr.com/ and she shares her knowledge and research on Women's Health in a series of articles. </bio>

For women in their thirties menopause is the last word they want to hear and the last thing they want to think about. No one wants to admit that they're at that stage of their life yet, even if it is just the "pre" menopause stage. It doesn't ever feel like it should be happening yet, especially when most people still have babies or small children at that age. And yet, you can tell your body doesn't feel 100% normal. You're not eating any differently but you started gaining wait, your breasts are sore, and your periods are becoming irregular. You're skin is dry and your sex drive just isn't what it used to be. You're irritable, tired, and getting headaches. So what's the deal, what is happening?

Pre-menopause is something that all women either know about or have at least heard about, but no one seems to have a name for it or be able to recognize it when it rears its ugly head. Millions of women are going through pre-menopause or have experienced some kind of symptoms, but don't think there's any possible way it's menopause because they're still in their early thirties.

Symptoms that come along with pre-menopause are basically the same as those that go with menopause: PMS, endometriosis, fibroids, tender and sore breasts, fatigue, irritability, depression, foggy thinking, sudden weight gain, having a hard time conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to full term, memory loss, migraine headaches, light or very heavy periods, spots, bleeding in between periods, and cold hands and feet. While it is a pretty long list, chances are you won't have every single symptom, but instead just a select few.

All of these symptoms are caused by hormone imbalances, mostly from having too much of the hormone estrogen and not enough of the hormone progesterone. These symptoms are not just scientific and medical; they also have a lot to do with and are more evident in women who are out of touch with their bodies and feelings. Basically, stress heightens the symptoms.

When women have the prescribed pre-menopausal symptoms doctors will usually administer estrogen supplements. Unfortunately, if estrogen doesn't clear up symptoms, doctors will often perform hysterectomy's or try drugs for depression such as Zoloft of Prozac unnecessarily. Other than getting pills, women can utilize a healthy diet and regular workout and exercise regimen to help with these early pre-menopause symptoms and an easier life transition.

Pre-menopause is the mixture of a body beginning to cross yet another age marker, and symptoms that every woman will notice around 10-15 years before actually going through menopause. It's kind of like a dress rehearsal for the big show. <bio>Kathryn Whittaker.
There is much talk surrounding the subject of menopause and it might be easy to forget that menopause is not a disease or condition but rather a natural process of aging. There are some unpleasant symptoms of menopause, the severity of which varies from woman to woman, and the treatment of menopause is to alleviate the annoyance of the symptoms, not to stop or reverse menopause itself.

The onset of menopause is gradual as the ovaries gradually produce less and less estrogen. It is the fluctuations of hormones which occurs during this time that is the culprit for the common symptoms which are experienced by most women.

Some of these symptoms include night sweats, palpitations, hot flashes, as well as mood swings, anxiety, and depression.

The average onset of menopause is around fifty years of age, it varies among women. If the onset of menopause occurs before the age of 40, it is called early menopause and can be due to genetics, or surgery and illness.

For years, hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, was recommended for women but this has always been open to debate and there is much disagreement among medical professionals as to whether hormone replacement therapy is indicated or even safe to recommend. HRT is often considered to combat osteoporosis which is age related loss of bone density.

To manage the bothersome symptoms of menopause, many products have been brought to market. You can visit your health food store or search online for natural menopause remedy, and you will be presented with many products which help to balance the body and hormones to make the passage through menopause less stressful.

If you have any concerns about whether you should be taking hormone replacement therapy or if you are wondering which supplements are safe to take, the best advice is to discuss it with your doctor who knows your medical condition well and can help you come to the best solution for your particular situation. <bio>Miranda Thompsen is a staff writer at http://www.aging-guide.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.wellness-digest.com. </bio>

There are some women who don't have any symptoms as all, but not many. Symptoms last different lengths of time for different women and are caused by the hormonal transition and imbalance in a woman's body.

One of the menopause symptoms in women is mood swings. Approximately 10% of women suffer from mood swings during menopause. Mood swings, basically, are drastic changes in mood over a short period of time. For example, laughing one minute, yelling and being angry, then crying, and then feeling depressed very shortly after. Many women get on medication for mood swings, while others prefer a more natural solution.

One of the main menopause symptoms in women is change in the menstrual cycle. In fact, less than 10% of women go through menopause without any irregularity. Periods will more than likely shorten and begin sooner than usual. The heaviness of blood flow may change as well and your periods may become either lighter or heavier. Birth control is often prescribed to help make periods more regular.

Women can begin having hot flashes, also called vasommotor symptoms, either in the pre-menopausal stages of peri-menopause or after their last menstrual period. They last longer for some than they do for others, but usually last somewhere between three and five years. Sometimes women will feel anxious, tense, agitated, or unsettled as a hot flash is coming on, and many times the heart rate will increase. They are often worse the first year following the last period. The only outward physical sign of a hot flash is the skin turning a pink or reddish color and sweating. Hot flashes can be mild or severe and some women may experience chills. As with any other menopause symptom, it is different for every woman.

Insomnia is a common menopause symptom. Some women have hot flashes mainly at night and cannot sleep due to that; while others have difficulty falling asleep even without hot flashes. A common pattern in many women is falling asleep for a few hours, waking up, and then not being able to go back to sleep.

Women sometimes complain of having short-term memory loss and difficulty concentrating as a menopause symptom. While many experts say that lower estrogen levels probably do play a role in memory loss and a lack of concentration, some think this is due to aging. The stress of going through menopause also may have an effect on memory and concentration.

Lower levels of estrogen cause some sort of menopause symptoms in all women, but they are different in every case. Some women will have very distinct and obvious menopause symptoms, while others only go through mild changes. <bio>Kathryn Whittaker.
Does the prospect of approaching menopause scare you? You really shouldn't be. It's vital to know that the signs vary from individual to individual. Factors like difference in diet and nutrition, general health and health care and so on, are the basic parameters that determine the way menopause manifest in women.

Below are the common physical symptoms noticed by most women who are either approaching or already experiencing menopause:

Longer menstrual periods: Women who normally have brief menstrual periods like four days can suddenly notice it increase to a week, and the occurrence of this could be a sign of approaching menopause.

Heavier menstrual flow: Women who are in their late 40's and who also notice that their menstrual flow is now heavier than is usual should also know that it's a sign of menopause-- but those who fall below this age bracket should realize it could be a health problem.

Spotting: The phenomenon by which blood come in trickles at a time when you are supposed to be menstruating is known as spotting, and it could be a sign of menopause when it occurs.

However, women must confirm they are not pregnant, if not and the situation continues then it is sure that the person is at the threshold of menopause.

Menstrual periods irregularity: A general tendency is that many women will also experience frequent irregular menstrual periods as they approach menopause.

Those who experience this and are sure they are healthy should be rest assured that it's a clear case of approaching menopause.

Lack of interest in sex: There is often no enthusiasm for sex in many women approaching menopause because the fun in having sex is simply not there again.

Scientists attribute this to declining estrogen level, which also makes the vagina wall lose its elasticity, and which ultimately leads to discomfort during sex. <bio>Bernie writes articles on a number of different topics.
"The Change" - Menopause happens to every woman and is a part of the natural aging process. Estrogen and progesterone production slows down and menstruation ends.

Menopause is not an illness or a disorder, but a natural biological transition. The signs and symptoms of menopause vary widely for each woman and can typically occur between the ages of 42 and 56. Some women experience very mild symptoms while some women suffer more. Some of the symptoms include:

* weight gain * depression * hot flashes * mood swings * night sweats * insomnia * fatigue * joint pain * short-term memory problems * urinary tract infections * itchy skin * dry eyes * vaginal dryness * bowel upset

While you can't stop the symptoms from actually occurring, there are a number of remedies to help ease the discomfort. Hormone therapy (HT) has been widely used in recent decades to relieve the signs and symptoms of menopause and -- doctors thought -- to prevent diseases associated with aging. However, new long-term evidence has demonstrated that HT may actually increase the risk of serious health conditions, such as heart disease, breast cancer and stroke.

Many women are seeking safer alternative treatments for menopause. Herbal supplements with components that are similar to the estrogen found in a woman's body are leading the way. Herbal supplements generally have no side effects and can bring relief for the multitude of symptoms associated with menopause.

There are several excellent products on the market that are specially formulated for menopausal symptoms. Native Remedies has developed several formulas to help women ease discomfort of their specific symptoms. It is very important for women going through the menopause transition to eat healthy and exercise.

Menopause is not the end of life, but a new stage of life. Many woman worry they will not enjoy sex after menopause but many women discover a renewed or even redoubled libido after the menopause.

It is important to remember that women can and do enjoy active and fulfilling sex lives throughout their menopausal years. <bio>For more information about Herbal Relief for Menopause please visit us at the http://herbalbuyersguide.com </bio>

As women approach midlife and menopause one of the things to be on the lookout for is depression. While menopause is not thought to be a cause of depression the two can occur at the same time. What is believed to be a cause of depression is changes in estrogen levels which occur during menopause. It is known that women are affected by depression over twice as much as men and that a family history of depression can factor into this as well.

The symptoms of depression and menopause are very similar and include sleep disorders, hot flashes, fatigue, anxiety, and irritability. Many women associate these symptoms with the changes that menopause brings, but they may be a sign of depression that needs to be understood and dealt with. There is no reason women need to suffer from depression during menopause. It is important that they accept the physical changes happening to their bodies during this time and work with their doctor to mitigate the symptoms of menopause, but it is also important that they realize that depression and menopause can be mutually exclusive and both can be dealt with.

As women approach menopause their menstrual cycles begin to change and start to become unpredictable. This unpredictability of their monthly cycle is a sign of erratic ovulation. Erratic ovulation causes unpredictable releases of the hormones estrogen and progesterone leading to mood swings, forgetfulness, hot flashes and all the other symptoms associated with menopause.

Most women going through menopause feel that they are loosing control of their bodies when in fact it is just their natural reaction to the aging process. This feeling of loss of control can lead to symptoms of depression. As the symptoms of both menopause and depression worsen they start to feel that there is nothing they can do and a feeling of hopelessness falls over them. This feeling of hopelessness is a major part of depression and left untreated can lead to severe depression.

Untreated depression is a major health risk. Researchers have found that depression is linked to an increased risk of heart disease and in some cases it can lead to bone deterioration increasing the likely hood of osteoporosis and broken bones.

The treatment for depression and menopause can follow a two pronged approach. It is important to treat not only the depression with antidepressant medications and counseling but also to treat the symptoms of menopause as well. Menopause can be treated with hormone replacement therapy where synthetic forms of estrogen and progesterone are used to even out the woman's hormone levels.

If you are a woman approaching midlife and menopause be aware that depression can be a very real side affect of the changes that will happen to you. If start to see the symptoms of depression it is best to talk to your doctor about what treatment options may work best for you. <bio>Andrew Bicknell is a writer and owner of http://depression.health-choices-net.com.
Women are different from place to place, culture to culture; but no matter where we live or who we are, we share common ground when it comes to our gender. One such commonality is menopause =96 the permanent ending of our reproductive lives as evidenced by the cessation of our menstrual cycles. Menopause can occur naturally =96 as it often does =96 or be brought on by a surgical procedure, but the results are the same.

Menopause generally occurs during a woman's late forties to mid-fifties and is defined by the ending of egg production by the ovaries. In addition to the cessation of egg production, the ovaries will also cease to produce estrogen =96 the hormone responsible for keeping the intricate processes of a woman' body in balance. The end to egg production results in the end of the menstrual cycle. And the elimination of estrogen results in a number of menopause-related symptoms. Some of the more common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, disruption in sleep, memory loss, vaginal dryness, loss of sexual desire, and mood swings. However, not every woman experiences every symptom. And when symptoms are experienced, the severity with which they are experienced differs greatly from woman to woman.

Menopause does not suddenly happen. It is a gradual process that normally occurs over the course of several years. However, there is also medically-induced menopause that occurs as a result of a surgical procedure.

While it is true that menopause is a physical event and manifests itself through physical symptoms, it can also have a bevy of emotional manifestations. The ending of a woman's reproductive life can be enormously sad for some women and marks the closing of a whole chapter of life. And when you are feeling a host of symptoms =96 some of which can be disruptive to your every day routine =96 it can have emotional consequences as well.

However, the experience of menopause doesn't have to be a difficult one; today's medical advancements offer a host of therapy plans designed to minimize the effects of menopause. If you find that you are having difficulties through menopause, consult your doctor to see what treatment options are available to you. <bio>For easy to understand, in depth information about menopause visit our ezGuide 2 http://menopause.ezguide2.com </bio>

Considered by many to be the main, and most uncomfortable, side effect of menopause is the hot flash. Hot flashes during menopause can happen on an average of every 2 to 4 hours, daily for 2 to 5 years depending on how quickly you move from perimenopause to menopause. Hot flashes and menopause can last up to 10 years in some women. The intensity will be stronger during perimenopause but will diminish as you progress towards the end of menopause.

An interesting bit of information is that hot flashes are more common in Western cultures then anywhere else in the world. They are particularly prevalent among American women. It is reported that only about 10% of women in Japan, Hong Kong, Pakistan, and Mexico have hot flashes during menopause. It has been proven that this is the case because of the women's low-fat and high-fiber diet. This adds to the information that women can control the level of intensity of hot flashes just by changing their diet.

It is also a fact that thinner women experience more hot flashes during menopause since the fat cells you have in your body convert the hormones that are secreted by the adrenals into estrogen. Although you don't want to gain weight specifically to avoid hot flashes, it might not be so bad to retain a few pounds during menopause, especially when you first begin perimenopause.

Hot flashes can be best characterized as mild, moderate, and severe. The faster you transition from being perimenopausal to post menopausal has a direct effect on how severe your hot flashes will be. Hot flashes during menopause are most severe with a surgery induced menopause. This is also true of a chemotherapy induced menopause. In general, with all menopause hot flashes, symptoms do begin to improve approximately 3 to 6 months after you experience your first hot flash, although they may last significantly longer. <bio>Discover how YOU can relieve hot flashes and menopausal symptoms without HRT. For most women this occurs between the ages of 48 and 55. Perimenopause is a transitional time before actual menopause when women begin to experience some of the symptoms associated with menopause although they are still menstruating.

Perimenopause can begin up to five years before menopause. While the woman is still experiencing menstruation, it may become irregular with many months passing between periods. For many women it may take a while to realize that perimenopause has given way to menopause. Medical professionals can now administer tests that determine the stage of menopause currently being experienced and is a viable option for women who want to know if they are indeed going trough menopause or simply suffering from the perimenopause stage. The presence of certain symptoms can also assist in knowing whether or not menopause has set in. The purpose of this article is to discuss the various symptoms experienced by perimenopausal and menopausal women.

Hot flashes are by far the most common symptom for menopausal women, affecting nearly three-fourths of women during perimenopause and menopause. The occurrence of hot flashes can begin during perimenopause but generally become more severe with the onset of actual menopause. Hot flashes feel like an ultra hot flushing through out the face, neck and sometimes the limbs.

Often hot flashes are accompanied by:

headaches nausea heart palpitations sleeplessness and insomnia urinary incontinence burning while urinating discomfort during sexual activity changes in vaginal appearance and/or discharge

These symptoms are generally attributed to the changes in levels of estrogen in the bodies of women going through perimenopause and menopause. The inconveniences caused by these symptoms can understandably cause moodiness and grumpiness in menopausal women. Social relationships can become strained while the family and friends of these women find it difficult to understand and sympathize with the mood swings and other hormone-induced negativity common in women going through menopause.

There are other symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause that pose greater health risks to women going through these stages of life. These symptoms include the loss of bone density, a rise in bad and total cholesterol levels, and a thinning of the skin. However it is difficult to determine how much of these symptoms are the result of the menopausal stage or simply causes by the natural aging process.

While all of the previously mentioned symptoms can make life uncomfortable or downright miserable for women experiencing perimenopause or actual menopause, there are treatments that can help. Your doctor, medical professional, or pharmacist should be able to recommend several of the treatments available to cope with the symptoms of menopause. Treatments should be thoroughly researched before use and should not be disregarded because they are "natural", "herbal" or "alternative" treatments according to the FDA. <bio>Richard Smart writes for Natural Health Products, Inc and online natural health company specializing in Hot Flash and http://www.hotflashfreedom.com Relief. </bio>

By the time most women have reached their forties and fifties, they are exhibiting the physical changes which accompany menopause. Menopause can bring emotional turmoil as well, but it is the physical symptoms which can make the menopausal years so traumatic for millions of otherwise well-balanced and happy women. And among the most distressing symptoms are the hives of menopause.

Increasing Occurences

The hives of menopause are a mystery to medical science, which has yet to provide an explanation for their appearance. Yet the hives of menopause seem to be affecting more and more women, and they can erupt in only small areas, or they can cover the entire body. The hormonal changes which occur during menopause could be at least one factor in the appearance of the hives.

The Stress Factor

Pharmaceutical companies have developed skin creams specifically to relieve the itching and inflammation of the hives of menopause, but there is a school of thought that the hives may be aggravated by stress. Those women plagued by the hives of menopause have nothing to lose by reducing their stress levels as much as possible, but even that does not promise an immediate end to the condition. It can take months to eliminate the hives of menopause and the other menopausal symptoms.

There are some women, however, who experience the hive of menopause only once, while others have a chronic case of hives known as Urticaria. If the hives are a single occurrence, they will shortly clear up without intervention. Urticaria, on the other hand, can last up to six months.

The hive of menopause can range in size from tiny red patches to those with the diameter of a half-dollar. Severe cases of the hives of menopause can lead to a condition known as Angiodema, which causes edema of the hands, eyes, and lips.

Other suspected contributors to the hives of menopause are food allergies; many women change their diets suddenly as they attempt to alleviate their symptoms. They may be eating some food for the first time, not realizing that they are allergic to them. A serious case of the hives of menopause really deserves the attention of your doctor so that you can try to determine and remove its cause. The best way to conquer the hives of menopause is to eliminate their causes, and that may be difficult.

Medications that may be prescribed for menopause relief include Zoloft, Prozac, and Estrogen tablets. A doctor should prescribe these medications and you should agree with these methods before undertaking them. Some women feel these medications are not needed, but remember you are not the only on affected by menopause. While it is your body, your family is privy to your emotional ups and downs. You may not see the affect menopause is having on you and you may not want to admit these changes, but your family can see what menopause is affecting. So keep in mind your doctor as an outside source as well as your family wants what is best for you. <bio>You can also find more info on http://www.menopausesymptomshelp.com/Menopause_And_Depression on depression menopause and http://www.menopausesymptomshelp.com/Menopuase_And_Insomnia on menstrual cycles. http://Menopausesymptomshelp.com is a comprehensive resource to know about Menopase Symptoms. </bio>

'The change of life' is an expression commonly used to refer to menopause, a natural occurrence that is associated with advancing age. When the reproductive system gradually begins to shut down, the ovaries stop producing estrogen and menopause symptoms soon follow. This causes the body to produce alternating levels of hormones which can trigger numerous symptoms. These symptoms include depression, anxiety, mood swings, irritability, the inability to concentrate and hot flashes.

Most women begin to see a menopause symptom at the age of 50, but there are instances where women may experience menopause earlier. In an effort to help her through this process, a hysterectomy is often performed as a routine surgical procedure. Following that, post-menopausal symptoms will be present and the woman will be more susceptible to the development of osteoporosis.

For years, Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) has been a common form of treatment for menopause. In part, this method has been so widely recommended because it is thought to reduce the weakening of bones that is often seen in osteoporosis. However, recent years have revealed that HRT may increase the risk of other serious illnesses, including a heart attack, stroke, breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease. For years, women have been urged to participate in this type of treatment while dealing with the effects of menopause. Today, an increasing number of women feel that menopause is a natural process as opposed to a disorder.

Due to the unique physiological makeup of every individual, the type of and severity of menopause symptoms will affect each woman differently. Some may have all of the symptoms while others may not have any at all. The only way to properly confirm the menopause condition is to receive a proper diagnosis from a licensed physician, especially since its symptoms often mimic those of other serious conditions. Along with a diagnosis the physician can offer recommendations for treatment, including a replacement of the necessary hormones no longer being produced.

The information in this article is to be used for informational purposes only. It should not be used in place of, or in conjunction with, professional medical advice. If you notice a menopause symptom or multiple ones, a physician will conduct a brief interview and perform tests to confirm the diagnosis. Anyone with questions regarding a suspected menopause symptom must consult their physician for further information. <bio>Melissa Ream is the wellness and health content editor at http://symptomsofmenopausenow.com.
Like all major turning points in women's lives, reaching menopause can be challenging and even a little frightening. Like puberty, menstruation, pregnancy and childbirth, menopause carries with it a whole host of natural, but nonetheless challenging and sometimes uncomfortable, physical changes. Moreover, it also carries with it a plethora of normal emotional and spiritual reactions, ranging from denial, confusion and even grief. After all, menopause marks a completely new phase in a woman's life. It heralds the end of our childbearing bearing years and ushers in a different phase of deep female maturity. And, since unfortunately we still live in a culture that equates femininity with sexual fertility, it's no wonder that many women regard menopause as a negative thing. Sadly some regard it as a nullification of their worth as women, something that couldn't be further from the truth. Menopause also reminds us we are getting older and our are bodies are naturally aging. That fact in itself can be a difficult to accept.

But what is menopause exactly? Menopause is an intermediary stage that takes place when a woman's reproductive organs fail to produce eggs, causing her menstrual cycle to stop. Typically menopause begins after or around the age of 50, however there are exceptions with some women commencing menopause earlier or later in life. And, more often than not the symptoms of menopause begin some time before onset.

There are a whole host of symptoms that can accompany menopause. Some of the more common signs are hot or cold flushes; weight gain; mood swings and irritability; emotionality; decrease in libido; muscle and joint soreness; depression; rapid or irregular heart rate; disordered sleeping patterns and irregular periods as well as lighter or heavier menstrual bleeding. In fact, the symptoms of menopause are so many and so individual that it is almost a case of "expect the unexpected". Some women even say they feel as if their skin is crawling!

The truth is that menopause should not be feared. Instead we should embrace and celebrate it as a normal stage in our cycle of health and wellness. That said, the symptoms and signs of menopause can be difficult to live with, and women should not face it alone. Think about it this way. If men had to go through menopause, just imagine the level of support, public awareness and caring workplace practices that would be established to help them through it! As it is, women have to muddle through menopause as best they can, dealing with it day-by-day, with their friends and sense of humor as their best allies.

Like all health matters, being well-informed about the sorts of symptoms you might experience allows you to physically and mentally prepare. Indeed, some women do not even realize they are going through menopause because they simply lack the information to explain what they are feeling! It's not until they research and explore the signs that they make the connection. And it's no wonder, given that the list of potential symptoms is so long and diverse. <bio>Kathryn Whittaker has an interest in Menopause.
The main problem with menopause is that there is a drastic reduction in production of the female hormones. This is what causes all the physical discomfort and hot flushes in menopause. The popular line of treatment is to take menopause hormones externally. Substitution of menopause hormones can be in the form of oral medication or it can be local application in the form of topical ointments.

It is important to take these menopause hormones strictly under a doctor's guidance. A doctor studies the patient's symptoms and entire family history and then recommends the correct dose and combination of menopause hormones. This ensures that the patient is not at risk and is taking the right menopause hormone.

Women can take either one or both menopause hormones depending on their physical condition and age. Women who have undergone a hysterectomy must take both estrogen and progesterone. Such women have a greater risk of heart disease, blood clots and breast cancer. Women taking estrogen alone have a chance of suffering a stroke.

Menopause hormones give good relief from hot flushes and vaginal dryness. There is no proof that they prevent heart disease or improve one's general health. The benefits of menopause hormones vary with age. Women with early menopause greatly benefit from a short course of menopause hormones. Older women who take menopause hormones have a greater risk of developing breast cancer or tumors.

Younger women do reduce their chance of heart disease by taking menopause hormones. A comprehensive study to determine the benefits and risks of menopause hormones in younger women is underway. The results of this study can provide vital clues for improving the health and quality of life of menopausal women in the years to come.

There is a need to regulate the duration of menopause hormones. One must take estrogen daily and progesterone about twice a week. The exact dosage varies with the patient's symptoms and medical condition. However, it is worth taking menopause hormones for a short time and not on a continuous basis.

A woman must regularly review the dosage of menopause hormones with her doctor. If the hot flushes have ceased, she must stop taking menopause hormones gradually. She can also shift to other localized medication like creams and patches. Menopause hormones are not a cure for age related problems like osteoporosis and heart disease. They are the last step in therapy when other medications have failed for these medical conditions.

Thus, a doctor must prescribe menopause hormones only after a detailed study of the patient's medical record. Menopause hormones are not a magic cure for the symptoms of menopause, but they do gradually lessen some of its symptoms like hot flushes. <bio>Jodie Phillips is the owner of several Women's Health-related websites at http://menopause.libyso.com/ and she shares her knowledge and research on Women's Health in a series of articles. </bio>
