Homeschooling can be an expensive choice for parents. There are many expenditures that need to be taken into account and the financial burden can be heavy particularly if only one parent is working.

However, many families have chosen homeschooling and found the homeschooling experience to be rewarding and fruitful.

Though homeschooling is expensive, there are some tips that will help you to reduce the cost of homeschooling and help ease your financial problems.

1. Learning materials

You can obtain your child's textbooks and other learning materials easily without necessarily buying them. You can always borrow them from the library. Your local schools may be able to lend them or sell them to you at a cheap price and you can go online and download the educational materials and print it out yourself.

Visit the homeschooling forums online and just ask where you can ask free or cheap learning materials. You'll be sure to find some tips.

2. Educational Field Trips

Educational trips can mean visits to the local zoo or science center. You can teach your child about animals and plants in your local garden or the local garden community.

You could teach history by visiting historical sites. You could teach culture by visiting other cultural sites or watching plays etc. All these are usually free or for a cheap price.

3. Be part of a community

There should be many local homeschooling communities in your local neighbourhood. By joining these homeschooling communities, you can pool their resources and shared it among the members.

For example, a homeschooling community can approach the local school and ask for donations for used textbooks, writing materials and other items such as whiteboards, desks and chairs etc.

Or the homeschooling community can pool their financial resources together and negotiate with a publisher for cheaper prices. Since you have more bargaining power as a community rather than an individual, you stand a greater chance of successfully negotiating a deal with the publisher.

If you do not have a homeschooling community in your local area, try online homeschooling communities and forums. They offer support and guidance and often free homeschooling resources are available

I hope I have given you some ideas on how to save money when homeschooling. As long as you are creative, you can find more ways to reduce the cost of homeschooling. <bio>Ricky Lim is the founder of http://www.homeschooling-guide.info where he regularly write homeschooling articles to help educators and parents. </bio>

The existence of chamber of commerce dates as far back as the 16th century and has since then maintained an essential role in business to business and business to consumer relations. Chambers strive to protect the concerns of its business members while maintaining the interest of the community as a whole.

While the chambers in the US must be registered, businesses are not required but are encouraged to join. Large chambers that work together are better able to protect the interest of its members, sway local business trends and even change the local community for the better.

A chamber of commerce is able to highlight and support its particular local businesses such as startups which may help to pave the way for future success. Also, they can rally around a long standing company which may have deep roots but be experiencing hard times. On the opposite side chamber members can officially or unofficially blacklist certain local businesses or members they feel are counterproductive to developing a good strong local community, environment and economy.

With this power comes the responsibility to know your community. Know the foundations and the goals, and try to influence them for the good. Sometimes strictly looking at the business side of the community ignores such issues as the need to tear down a rundown building in order to build a community park. A farsighted plan is able to see the value in supporting something good for the communities which will in turn support the environment and the economy of that community.

The local environments are a difficult issue for local communities to tackle. The solving or correcting of bad business' environmental problems is costly and sometimes painful to confront. It may mean turning to a longstanding member of the chamber and urging them to stop a certain practice or even pursing legislative action.

When focused on building these strong communities and healthy environments chambers are in turn building the local economy. Furthermore, strong economies only get stronger when surrounded by these healthy communities. Take for example a chamber of commerce which commences a revitalization plan for a dying downtown, if they clean up the area and promote a sense of community with its inhabitants it will consecutively foster more and more business activities in that community.

One great way for a local chamber of commerce to rally its members together and connect with the community is to put on a local chamber of commerce trade show. Almost every chamber now has these trade shows since they are a great way for business to connect and actually see what other services and products other members offer. These shows also allow non-members to see the value being a member and also meeting other local business people.

Often non-profit or local organizations can reserve a trade show booth so that they can let a broader audience know their concerns. And since businesses are usually able to make a bigger impact, bending the ear of local business people is a great way to further your campaign for change.

Another great way to connect is simply hosting non-formal social events, such as having food and drinks at a local restaurant on Friday afternoon. Hosting these events is a great way for business people to connect in a more laid back and welcoming environment. Hosting such events captures a broader interest so more members are likely to attend, which promotes a sense of community among business owners.

Building a stronger chamber of commerce through having social events or putting on a trade show will in turn help foster a better chamber community. And that better community will be able to build a better community at large, a cleaner environment and a stronger local economy. <bio>Andy Keeler is the owner of http://MODdisplays.com, an internet-based trade show booth sales company. While MODdisplays sells trade show products and exhibit accessories like trade show flooring on a national scale, the company is a strong supporter of local communities. </bio>

Hi, my name is James Warren and i would like to take this opportunity to share with you some of my experiences with my latest project.

I am building a website which is targeted to the local people of the town that i live in. The town is called Sudbury. It is in the county of Suffolk in the UK.

The purpose of the site isn't to attract people to the area or to inform people about any of the features that the town has to offer. It is all about communicating within the local community. It is my aim for the people of Sudbury to become regular users of the website. I want them to find information about local events and read reviews about the restaurants in the town and to keep visiting the website on a regular basis.

Why do you want people to keep visiting?

It is my aim to sell advertising space to local businesses and traders. This along with Google Adsence and a few Affilliate links should generate a half decent income. So with the people of Sudbury coming back time and time again, i will be in a good position to put premiums on advertising space.

The website is progressing well and i hope to launch it very soon. I will have to do a lot of marketing in the town to really promote it and get people to actually visit the site and hopefully through word of mouth and some decent press releases, i should be able to establish a good following. What do you think? Is i something that could work in your opinion? Why not have a look at the site and give some feedback. <bio>http://www.sudbury-suffolk.co.uk and http://www.warrendirectpublishing.com </bio>

When you look for a carpet cleaner you have two main choices. You can hire the big local cleaning company or you can hire an independent owner and operator. Read this short article and learn about why you should choose an independent carpet cleaner over that big company in the area.

There are many reasons to choose an independent carpet cleaner over the big local carpet cleaner. The biggest reason is experience. Although that large company might have been in business for years, how long have their employees been carpet cleaning. This industry is unfortunately a high turnover one and if you want someone who has years of experience you are usually not going to find that at a large company. Another reason to choose an independent over a large company is the fact that an independent will usually pay closer attention to the details and spend more time on the job. They have more stake in the job than some college kid working his way thorough school. They are looking to build a business and therefore appreciate and will work harder for your business. Also do not underestimate the benefit of the owner being on every cleanin job. The last reason to choose an independent is to support local business. Is that large company based here? Are they a franchise that is sending much of their money out of the area. When you hire a local independent cleaner you can be sure that you are supporting your local community by using someone who actually lives in the community.

As you hopefully can see, there are many many reasons to use a local carpet cleaner. I hope that one of these reasons has rung a bell with you and that you will take my advice and hire an independent carpet cleaning company. Good luck with whatever you decide. <bio>Visit http://www.glendalecarpetcleaning.info for more information. </bio>

Do you have skate parks in your city? Are you aware of the significant impact skate parks can have on a city or town? Most skateboarders are all too familiar with the "No Skateboarding" signs that are posted in many desirable skating locations. Providing towns with skate parks gives the skaters a safe, designated place to skate and it benefits the youth of the community as well as all of a community as a whole.

Building skate parks takes effort from many different individuals and organizations and it's not as easy as it may seem which is likely why there are not enough skate parks as it is. If you want to help fight the good fight for more skate parks across the nation and even across the world, what can you do?

First, to build skate parks, you need to have the help of as many people as possible. You will want to form an organization. This is the first step toward getting in touch with skateboarders you know or see and also soliciting the aid of other people in the community. While many people incorrectly think that city council members will want to see adults speak about the construction of skate parks in towns, we have noticed that often quite the opposite is true. It is much more compelling to have the actual skateboarders do the lobbying since they are the ones who will want to use this skate park.

If parents, teachers, local businessmen and other individuals in the community support your plan to build a skate park, you should definitely make this known and add all you can to your committee but to really make your case heard, you are going to need as many actual skaters as possible. You will want to personally show that there is a direct need for a skate park in your community and no one can do that as well as the skaters themselves.

In communities all over the globe, many skaters are losing their places to skate because of legislation, tenant complaints, zoning regulations and neighborhood restrictions. These are the people that need to be there speaking out for more skate parks. These are the people who will directly benefit from the skate parks and they need to be directly involved with the process of requesting one.

In addition to skateboarders, you are also going to want to bring to your team, in-line skaters, BMX and freestyle bikers and other people in the skating community. Do not limit yourself to only the skating community. You will also want to get important people from your community involved such as religious leaders, local law enforcement and even local business owners. It will take all of your efforts combined to see action in your town.

Once you have your organization and members, you will begin forming a plan to lobby for skate parks in your area. Remember that you are going to be asked to prove the need for them in your area. You will need a location to have meetings and be sure to have regular meetings to keep everyone fired up and on pace with your project. Have an agenda and stick to it and you will begin to see things happening and hopefully more skate parks appearing all over the world! <bio>Chris Angelo is a skating enthusiast.
I was talking to a neighbor and fellow NWMer last year about marketing ideas....while we were both cleaning up our yards after a recent hurricane. He shared some pretty neat tips I'd call "community branding".

Here's just one "semi" inovative idea for you to chew on:

Participating in community charity activities. Just that simple....but with lot's of potential.

For example..... how about your group running in a local 5K for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.....all wearing T-shirts with your group/business name on it. Carry a sign across the finish line with "The Yada Yada company running for a cure" (or whatever....be more creative than that obviously....LOL). Talk to media covering the event. Network with fellow participants. Be involved.

How about your group volunteering to help at functions for your local YMCA ....or local library....or rec center....or PTA...or.... you get the idea.

Or...very timely for us....go out as a group and help clean up your neighborhood after something like Katrina.

Have something like a sign, banner, T-shirts that say who you are (special T-shirts only for something like Katrina clean-up). But don't pass out brochures and company material. Just network and create visibility. Maybe have a few business cards in your pocket and hand them only to those who ask. You could also have brochures etc. in your car maybe.

Just DON'T make it look like a big marketing gimic. The public will see right through it. Instead create an identity and branding within your community. This establishes a sense of acceptance and curiosity you can build upon by following up with contacts made during these events.

You might even make the local news as a community interest story. Nice publicity.

We have a couple groups who apply this concept very well in our annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life events. You could too.

Remember to adhere to any "rules" of the specific event sponsor (if an event) and your particular company.

Basically....just be seen and have fun.

Makes for a good team building excercise too. <bio>Michael is the author of the Best MLM Resources Blog where you can get more MLM tips, wit, and wisdom [ http://Best-MLM-Resources.blogspot.com ].
Trees need roots to grow. When a gardener plants a tree, he does not water the leaves or the branches. Instead, he sticks a hose near the roots and lets them soak up all the moisture they can hold. In the same way, whenever we begin a grass-roots business, whil we have the opportunity to expand, we must remember to maintain our roots: the community in which we live and work.

In the past the success of a home business relied large on its geographical location. Local farmer would sell their produce to local consumers. Basket weavers would weave their wares for the general public in their community. However, the growth of the internet has literally allowed local home businesses to explode into the global market place. As a result, many home businesses have lost touch with what once was the bread and butter of the home business world: the community.

Home businesses owners must recognize the unique customer base they have within their own community. These are the people they can see face to face, and thus the individuals that can recommend the home business products to others locally. Word of mouth is a powerful (and cheap) advertising tool, and thus home business owners must work hard to cater to the literal customer while serving the virtual customer as well.

Secondly, home business owners can use their particular geographic location to their advantage. Let's say you live in the sticks of the Midwestern United States. Your closest neighbor lives over a mile away, and the closest paved road is well over two miles away. You drive 30 miles one way to get groceries, and 60 miles one way to eat out at a restaurant that doesn't consider "hashbrowns" a legitimate side. You get the idea. You need the global customer, the virtual customer, to survive. So how can you take advantage of your geographical location? Two words: graphic design. If you live in a beautiful, unique part of the world, then use those images as a part of your business logo or website.

Finally, participate in the community. When the local school has their homecoming parade, enter a float for your home business. Join the local small business association, and participate in community activities under the auspice of your business. Contact the local school and see if you can contribute to the booster clubs and put your business name on a plaque as a result. Whenever you have the opportunity for advertising your business and building a positive image in the community, do it.

Just because the world has given us the opportunity to go global does not mean we can or should forget our neighbors. The home business began at home and relied solely on the goodness of those in its immediate vicinity. We should remember our roots when we start to grow, and continue to water them as we hope to reach the skies of prosperity. <bio>Jim Biscardi is owner of Dynamic Wealth Systems, LLC and writes on a variety of subjects.
Moving can be scary, but it can also be an adventure. New people, new surroundings, new favorite haunts.

A great way to get to know the new community is to get out in it. Go pick up the community newspaper. Almost every town or city has one. Rather than focusing on the city as a whole, it just focuses on what's going on in your area of town, such as events, restaurant openings, ads for shops and anything that might pertain to you.

Research your new community online. There's always a wealth of information on anything you want to find on the internet. The Newspaper Association of America has a website on how to find local papers with a map and search engine that will find events and information going in the are that you reside in.

Head to the library. They usually have community bulletin boards and all kinds of local information on how to get plugged into the new area. Get a library card so you can get all you need to be prepared in the new area. Be sure to get a map of the area's transportation system. This will give you a guide to the train, trolley, bus, and subway maps for free.

There are often free magazines that many cities publish in stores and street corners about area happenings. They contain events such as restaurant reviews, theatre events, readings, concerts, festivals, and all kinds of activities. They are geared toward all ages, whether you are in your twenty-something or have a family already or are older.

A great way to get to know a new community is through the recreation centers and community halls. They offer a variety of activities form fitness center to yoga classes, gym classes, and every kind of sport class imaginable.

Maps are great to find things like churches, hospitals, schools, recreation centers, and libraries. Be sure to pick up a tourist guidebook while you're learning the area. They can give you a background on the town, ideas on where to eat, activities, and many other useful ideas. <bio>John Harris is an expert researcher and writer on real estate topics such as economics, credit improvement tips, home selling advice and home buying preparations.
Here are some other ways to promote your website offline. This article is continued from Part I.

This next method can be costly but this is what I consider taking your business to the next level. Sponsoring local community events, little league teams, high schools, and any other events you can get your hands on. Once you are the official sponsor you can post your banners on gyms, at high school football games, and any other events that draw a large crowd. Pass out free T-shirts, caps, pens, pencils, and anything else you can think of. Here are a couple things to remember. First and foremost by sponsoring the community you are building trust. Next you are creating repeated exposure for your business. Imagine having sponsored all the major events in your city, yes the cost to sponsor everything would be great but your profits would be even greater. People go with what they are familiar with. That is why all the major companies sponsor all the major events they can get their hands on. This all depends on your budget but it is well worth the cost.

The next method is placing an ad in your local paper. I think that this is a great alternative if you do not have the money to sponsor local community events. Just take out an ad in your local paper. Try to get the most for your money. If you are going to use this method I would advise to take out the ad space each week because repeated exposure is key.

The last method is advertising with banners on your car. Personally, I would never put banners on my car but if you are okay with it go right ahead. What I do instead is pay people to place banners on their cars for me. Make sure their car is decent looking because the car reflects your business. To find people willing to do this just post an ad in the employment section of your newspaper. Well that's it so good luck. <bio>This article was written was written by Eric Fields.
The businessman performs a vital role in the community. This sounds like an obvious statement but they are often taken for granted by the people that work for them and the entire support structure, but without them there would be no need for any of the above.

Take for example a person who sets up a restaurant in a local community. Initially, it is necessary to gather capital together =96 people want to dine in a nice atmosphere thus it is necessary to spend heavily on this. What does this involve?

It may be necessary to convert a previously unused building so immediately the full range of trades is required through joinery, plastering, perhaps plumbing, tile fitters, painters, decorators' etc. Additionally, a huge range of materials will need to be purchased from tiling, carpets, wallpaper, kitchen materials and cooking facilities etc.

So immediately the benefits to the local community are evident and suppliers of these trades and services benefit.

Going further back, when the idea was being formed, the chances are that an architect would be used to help form the final design and possibly a quantity surveyor to analyze the anticipated costs of the project, perhaps interior designers to help with the proposed theme. Additionally, an accountant's services will probably be employed to prepare a business plan and cash flow projections.

Continuing down the line, once the restaurant is open it will require staff, again a benefit to the local community, and will require constant maintenance, taking us right back to square one.

Now, as we all know, each business has different requirements, but this gives a general idea of the necessity of entrepreneurs in the local community.

The businessman is proactive, takes financial and reputation risks, and, like other trades or professions, provides a valuable and necessary service.

In many communities, businessmen who do well are often scorned and questions abound throughout the community as to the morality of the individuals required, without taking stock of the above however this is perhaps a natural human emotional response.

It may be levied at the businessman that his goal is to maximize profit, but then of course he is or he wouldn't have ploughed capital and taken the risks in the first place; indeed, is that not the goal of any profession or trade also? It would be absurd to imagine someone getting out of bed in the morning if the goal were not to maximize profit?

Of course there are unscrupulous businessmen and unfair employers, but are there are there not also unscrupulous tradesmen, professionals, or indeed politicians and heads of multi national corporations?

The average community, if there is such a thing, would greatly struggle without the businessmen; indeed, the argument could be put forth that the community as we all know it, would perhaps cease to exist =96 someone can only get employment if someone else takes the risk to set up a firm.

Every trade or profession is dependent on the businessman to a degree, they may even be businessmen themselves by definition and the community ticks round as we know it due to the businessmen taking risks, employing local advice and inputting capital to whatever venture is involved. <bio>Naz Daud is the Founder of the CityLocal Internet Business Franchise Opportunity. http://www.citylocal.co.uk http://www.citylocal.co.uk/frontend/franchiseinfo.php?cityid=79 http://www.citylocal.ie http://www.ecademy.com/account.php?id=120141 </bio>

In their forward looking book, Cluetrain Manifesto, the authors list 95 challenging and enlightening marketing rules ("theses") for both companies and marketers.

As an independent contractor, you get to play both roles.

Here are two big ones to challenge you right now:

"#34. To speak with a human voice, companies must share the concerns of their communities.

#35. But first, they must belong to a community."

Community: A group of people having common interests: the scientific community; the international business community.

Challenge: Given what you are marketing now, who is YOUR community? What are some common interests you might have with others, that would bind you all to (some aspect of) what you market?

This is akin to knowing you have a bias, a strong interest or leaning, as in the scientific community, the arts community, the Christian or Buddhist community...

Members of any vibrant community are people who have a strong (not just a passing) interest in their beliefs about it, and its leaders seek to grow the community ever larger.

How would you describe the 'community' you are part of, as it relates to your product or business?

It starts with you. Marketing as a means to discover and grow a community of like minds is not marketing as usual: No more "them versus us." No more feeling of marketer as hunter cornering its prey, who, as a group are doing their best to hide (e.g. Do Not Call Registry, Tivo, Caller ID) or become more immune to these attempts at fake communication (they just glaze over).

Here's what it IS about: US finding more of US.

Once you have defined YOUR interest, or hot button, as it relates to your product, then you can legitimately, authentically and credibly reach out and find others who'd fit right into your (virtual) community. And of course let them know up front you are marketing something that might be of interest to them, because it was, to you.

Assignment: How would you describe the common interest that defines the community YOU belong to, as it relates to what you market? Someone who... <bio>Kim Klaver is Harvard and Stanford educated.
A neighborhood watch group is an effective way to prevent crime and vandalism around your home. Since 1972, neighborhood watch groups have been helping to protect communities by working with local law enforcement agencies.

If you are thinking of starting a neighborhood watch group in your area, here are some tips to help you get started:

1,Get to know your neighbors. Find out what their concerns are and how they can help.

2,Contact local law enforcement agencies for training.

3,Choose a regular meeting place and have an agenda to keep the meetings on track.

4,Meet with your group often and decide on an action plan.

5,Get facts about your community's crime rate =96 check police reports and databases to find out what is happening in your area.

5,Canvass door-to-door to let your neighbors know what you are doing and find volunteers.

It is important to remember that a neighborhood watch group is not a vigilante group. If a crime or suspicious activity is witnessed, notify the police immediately. Notify police if you witness any of the following:

1,A crime in progress.

2,A vehicle making slow, repeated trips around your neighborhood.

3,A stranger hanging around homes or businesses, or going door-to-door.

4,Unusual noises.

5,Items being removed from a home without the owner present.

In addition to looking out for crime, neighborhood watch groups can provide many useful services to the community, including:

6,Community Education. Neighborhood watch groups can speak to schools and businesses about preventing crime, vandalism, or arson.

7,Escorting the Elderly. If there are seniors living in your community, your neighborhood watch group can help them get around safely.

8,Safe Houses/Block Parents. Elect one or two families in your neighborhood to host "safe houses." A safe house is a place where children can go if they feel afraid or need a trusted adult.

9,Neighborhood Beautification. Completing beautification projects out in the community not only feels good, but it deters crime. Clean up vacant lots, cover up graffiti, and send the message that you care about your community.

10,Promoting Personal Safety. Sponsor home security inspections in your neighborhood or host a self-defense class. Help your neighbors feel empowered to prevent crime and know what to do when one occurs.

A neighborhood watch group can be a great way to get to know the people in your community. With a little organization and support from local law enforcement, you and your neighbors can make a difference. <bio>Ralph Winn has over 32 years of education and experience in the security industry http://www.homesecuritystore.com </bio>

Whether or not you have ever personally experienced the excitement and fulfillment associated with community service, it is never too late to take it up a notch. Contemporary community service organizations offer to interested individuals the opportunity to service a community through their actions. Ranging from a simple project like a daycare service for young women professionals and their infants, to a more complex one like building the local school facilities of a village in Eastern Africa, community services are part of a global effort to assist another group of people by offering experts advice and the required set of skills.

But community service, apart from it being an alternative sentencing technique used in criminal justice, it can become a wonderful outdoor experience for those who decide to get involved. Today, some examples of community service projects include a school team cleaning the nearest park, a group of volunteers collecting much needed items such as clothes, shoes, bottle tabs and cans, canned food and packaged water for families in distress, volunteering to help the local fire or police department, taking older people out for a walk, arranging and organizing sport games for people with disabilities, or becoming a guide for blind or deaf people. Regardless of the volunteer effort you provide, outdoor community services can help people reach a better standard of living and you can be satisfied for performing something good for yourself as well for your fellow citizens.

Particularly important is outdoor community service that engages youth, often called youth service. Introduced as a methodology to strengthen young peoples' senses on civic engagement issues and nationalism, as well as assist them in meeting their educational, developmental, and social goals, youth outdoor community services are a great tool for contemporary societies to instruct children and infuse basic values. Some schools have gone to the level of requiring youngsters to perform such type of outdoor services so as to be qualified to advance to the next grade or even graduate from high school. Although this practice can become dubious in terms of its final results, its introduction was intended to make community service an effective learning tool and assist younger generations in realizing that great things in life result from a shared vision and the devotion team members experience while focusing on a cause.

If you are considering of what you should be doing with your extra time, try volunteering for an outdoor community service. Apart from helping those less fortunate than yourself, you will be gaining valuable experience and increasing the impact of your role in society. For your kids, consider taking community service to a new height by offering them the opportunity of adventure-based outdoor education and experimental education activities with other urban or rural youth members. Socialization, interaction, exchange and personal development are some of the positive outcomes of such a practice. Do not think it twice. Check your local community service association's projects and enlist yourself and your child. At the end of the day you will be extremely glad you did. <bio>Jonathon Hardcastle writes articles for http://theoutdoorslifestyle.com/ - In addition, Jonathon also writes articles for http://recreationandmore.com/ and http://ecookingcentral.com/ </bio>

Whether you're buying a residential house for investment purposes or as your home, the local neighborhood and community where it is located will make a big difference in your enjoyment of that property and in your prospects for the future. Here are some of the basic things to look for:

1. Essential Shops and Services

Are all the essential shops and services in the area and are they you're your house? Drive around and look for the local grocery, convenience stores, church, gas stations, dry cleaners and the like. While you're at it, take a good look at the community's leading shopping center. Oftentimes, if the local shopping center is in decline, chances are that the neighborhood is in decline as well. In addition, if there are a lot of vacant storefronts along that neighborhood, it might be a good idea to explore other options, perhaps go down a street or two for your house hunting.

2. Proximity to neighborhood center You want your home to be neatly tucked away at the center of the residential neighborhood or as close to it as possible. You do not want to purchase a house on the edge of town or close to its outskirts. And neither do you want a house that is at the back or side of a busy thoroughfare either. If it's a single family residence you are eyeing, try to avoid purchasing property that borders a bustling business enterprise, condominium, apartment complex or school because these places are naturally bustling with activity which can be a distraction.

3. Access to major thoroughfares The ideal property provides easy access to local highways, major traffic routes and major thoroughfares as well as to mass transit. Try to avoid purchasing a house located on a street that is a favorite shortcut of motorists between two busier streets. If it's a residential home you're thinking of buying, also avoid a house located at a corner lot since these tend to attract more street traffic and may not be that safe for children. Instead, try to find a house that is in the middle of the block or on a cul de sac. Now if it's a business or commercial property you are eyeing, a corner lot would be more desirable. <bio>Jonathon Hardcastle writes articles for http://yourealestatesource.com/ - In addition, Jonathon also writes articles for http://4investing.net/ and http://letstalkaboutfinance.com/ </bio>

Groundbreaking in both quality and scope, Berks aims to revolutionize the way local news is done...by truly makingit local.

Berks features interviews and video footage of local people, events and businesses. Run by Reading local Tara Karleen, Berks presents a picture of Berks County and the Greater Reading region that you can't get anywhere else. And best of all, it's available on the web for free: all the time, any time.

One of the least tapped potentials of the internet has been the development of local community. But there is evidence that this is changing. Even the search engine giants like Google are directing their efforts towards localized content. Berks is looking to speed up this trend by using the enormous power of online video to strengthen and inform the local community in Berks County.

According to Tara Karleen, andquot;The primary mission of Berks is to serve the Reading and Berks County communities by highlighting the very best of what our region has to offer. In the process, we hope to build strong relationships and encourage regional collaborations that otherwise might not have happened.andquot;

So far, Berks has acheived a great deal of success. In their first month broadcasting over the web, they've already talked with the Mayor of Reading about his high-tech plans for the city, covered the local Berks County wine scene, interviewed a number of artists and musicians and even had top notch video footage of the 2006 Reading Flood. More recently, Berks was ableto interview Governor Ed Rendell about his vision for the Latino community in Reading, PA.

The emergence of online video marks a major milestone in the history ofcommunication. Grassroots efforts such as Berks are ushering in a media revolution that encourages an organic collaboration between ordinary citizens and traditional media outelts. Accordingly, Berks plans to partner with existing media organizations to enhance the viewer's ability to access regional information online.

With the decentralization of media on the web, one might worry about lowering standards of quality. But Berks puts those worries to rest. All of Berks footage is shot in high quality 1080i HD video footage and presented via the ubiquitous QuickTime media player. While popular siteslike Google Video and YouTube settle for lower-quality, smaller-sized video, Berks publishes high quality video to make the future of internet video happen today. <bio>The mission at Berks.TV is to chart the continued rise of the Greater Reading region and to help make connections among those in the community. Video on the Web is the perfect medium to carry out this mission-: http://www.berks.tv </bio>

Finding good community colleges in Arizona can be quite a challenge. When I first started taking courses working towards my Associates from Arizona community colleges, I was quite disappointed. At all of the Arizona community colleges that I tried, it was like the professors were not even there. Neither were the students for that matter. Everyone in my Arizona community colleges courses just seemed to remind me of lazy jellyfish in the sea, just drifting along, only studying enough to pass the test with a medium grade, and go on to the next class. They were extreme slackers.

I can not figure out for the life of me what any of these people were planning to do at all. Did they think that this attitude that let them just drift by in Arizona community colleges would lead them to succeed in Arizona universities? And if they were not even planning on going on to a 4 year undergraduate program, why would they enroll in their Arizona community college courses at all? Someone would only do that when he or she they wanted to enjoy the class and really put some efforts into it.

My experience with Arizona community colleges was so terrible that for a while, I took online college programs. I sort of felt bad for myself for dropping my classes in Arizona community colleges, but I did not see any other alternatives. I did not want to hang around with bad students who did not really even want to be in the community college classes that they were taking.

With the online college courses, at least I could study by myself and not worry about the other people annoying me all of the time. It is hard to understand how much bad students in Arizona community colleges can really put their toll on you if you are compelled to spend hours with them every single week. I know this might sound snobbish, but it is really true, no joke.

Once I started taking my online degree programs, though, things started picking up almost right away. It was so exciting and relieving to think that I could earn a degree without even setting foot in any of those traumatizing Arizona community colleges again, that I just got completely psyched up for it. Although I think that it still might be better to work in person with a teacher, online degree programs have the great advantage. They let you work for your own degree on your own time and schedule, at your own pace. And that is not something that you should take lightly. <bio>http://www.just-arts-and-all.com provides the latest news, reviews, articles and write-ups on all the arts and humanities http://www.hobbyguidezone.com </bio>

As more and more Baby Boomers are breaking through the "55-years-and-above" barrier, the lifestyle offered by an active retirement community is becoming attractive for the increasing number of baby Boomers who have broken through the "55-years-and-over" barrier and become senior citizen material.

An active retirement community enables its residents to live as independently as their capabilities allow, while supplying them with every possible amenity. An active retirement community can consist of apartments, town homes or duplexes, or single family residences.

For senior citizens who prefer to spend their time on things other than household tasks, an active retirement community offers a nearly maintenance free way of life. The community management will even remover the efforts involved in arranging social, shopping, sporting, or entertainment activities.

An active retirement community may be located near golf courses, or have its own swimming pools and tennis courts for the enjoyment of its residents. It will organize and provide transportation for day trips to museums, concerts, art galleries, and movies or plays. Every active retirement community will have a clubhouse in which residents can gather to socialize or watch television; but the residents are required to take responsibility for their own health care arrangements. And only rarely will an active retirement community offer laundry services. For more info see <a href="http://www.seniorliving-review.com/Senior_Living_Centers/" >http://www.seniorliving-review.com/Senior_Living_Centers/ on Senior Living Centers.

Active Retirement Community Regulations

The age restricted active retirement community is required, under regulations established by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, to have a resident population with at least four-fifths, or 80%, of its members above the age of 55.

The remaining twenty percent of the facilities residents must be at least nineteen years old.

The other class of communities, the age-targeted retirement community, is also governed by the HUD regulations. An age-targeted retirement community is designed for residents over the age of 55 who have no children or minors in their care. The regulations do not exclude young people and grandchildren from visiting; they are welcome, but cannot become permanent residents.

The leisure, or resort, active retirement community will have a variety of onsite facilities for the use of its residents. This type of active retirement community emphasizes the social aspect of retirement, and will have fitness facilities, swimming pools and spas, tennis or even handball courts, and an active social calendar. Arranging classes in arts and crafts, and have community picnics and outings to local cultural attractions, an active retirement community will often have its own shuttle service to area grocery stores and shopping malls.

The active retirement community is an ideal solution for those who see retirement as the chance to catch up on everything they had no time for during their working years. It will provide them with an attractive, safe environment in which to make new friends, explore new interests, and just relax and enjoy life! <bio>You can also find more info on http://www.seniorliving-review.com/Adult_Community_Centers/ on Adult Community Centers and http://www.seniorliving-review.com/Affordable_Senior_Housing/ on Affordable Senior Housing. http://Seniorliving-review.com is a comprehensive resource to know more about Senior Living. </bio>

There are many benefits that go along with living in a golf community. If you have never looked into this way of living you are missing out on a lot. No, golf community living is not right for everybody, but you at least owe it to yourself to look into what this lifestyle has to offer. Many people think that golf communities are only for people who like to golf a lot. Even though this can be true, it is not necessarily the case with everybody. Regardless of who you are a golf community may be the perfect living situation for you.

At this point you are probably wondering about the many benefits of a golf community, right? Well first off, the majority of homes in golf communities are great properties. Not only are the homes top notch, but the land is also very nice. In fact, many homes in golf communities are right on the course.

Another benefit that goes along with a golf community is that you can take advantage of the course as well as the other offerings in the area. For instance, if you like to golf you will never be very far away from a course. In most cases you will be able to walk from your home to the clubhouse. This makes it quite easy for you to play a round of golf anytime that you would like. Additionally, in many areas when you buy a home in a golf community you will get to take advantage of the other perks that the course and club have to offer. For instance, you may get a free membership. This will allow you to golf when you want, and also get involved with the other activities offered. This includes everything from swimming to tennis to eating at the club.

If you are unsure of the benefits of a golf community, why not get in touch with a real estate agent who specializes in this area? They will be able to give you information on what golf communities are all about, as well as what you can expect by taking the leap. And on top of all that, your agent can also show you some homes in a number of different golf communities in your area. Seeing properties first hand is the only sure fire way of finding out if you are interested in living in a golf community.

Overall, there are many benefits that golf communities have to offer. If you think that you may be interested your best bet is to collect a bit more information. This way you will be able to make an educated decision in the end. <bio>Robert Flournoy writes about golf community real estate for http://www.golfhomeconnect.com .
When you retire do you know where you want to go? Some people simply want to stay in the home that they lived in their entire life. But on the other side of things there are people that want to retire to something a bit more comfortable. One of the best options fore people like this is retiring to a golf community. If you like the game of golf, and are not against moving, this is one option that you should definitely look into.

The best thing about a golf community is the golf! If you like to play the game, this will give you the ability to hit the links everyday of the week. Regardless of what time it is or what day it is, you are never any longer than a short walk or drive to the first tee.

In addition, golf communities are also great places to live as well. Most of these communities have many options to choose from. In most cases you can buy a home or condominium, or if you would rather you can rent an apartment. Just make sure that you know what decision is best for you, and then move forward with a golf community that can suit your needs.

When searching for a golf community to move into you will want to take your time. By jumping into things too quickly you may end up finding out down the road that there was a better option available. Most retirees like to move into a community where there are other people their age around. This is a great idea and there are many golf communities that cater to people who are retired.

Finally, just because you do not have a lot of money does not mean that you cannot move into a golf community. There are thousands of these all over the country with each one offering unique features and price levels. Simply search around until you find something that suits your needs and budget.

Overall, retiring to a golf community can be a lot of fun. Not only will you get to live in a nice home for the rest of your days, but you can also play golf anytime that you want. For some people this is as good as it gets. If you are interested, start your search today. In no time at all you will be living the life of luxury. <bio>Ronald Martinez is a writer covering golf course property .
This week snow hit the UK and it was amazing to see how those little flakes of ice, caused so much trouble. Within hours the schools were shut and parents couldn't go to work as there was no one to look after their kids. The roads become like ice rinks and travel became difficult. The news channels did their usual sensational newsflashes with the snow being the headline as the UK just ground to a halt.

All while this madness was going on, something incredible was beginning to happen. I woke on the first day of snow at about 6am, after my partner, Jackie thought that it was that important that she should wake me up to tell me, "its snowing!". After about half an hour of watching the 'devastating' news on the television, I got up and looked out the window. It was 6:30am and there was people, young and old, building snowmen and having snowball fights in my street. People were laughing and joking and having fun -- there was a true sense of community in the air.

This was great as in British culture the sense of community seems to be slipping away by the day. So, what caused the snow to bring the community together? Maybe it was the generalised feeling of helplessness, because now one could get anywhere, or maybe it was just the child coming out in everyone? Who knows? But for two days it was great to see!

Two of my last articles have been on the topic of kindness. Now I want to get you thinking about kindness and community. What things can we do in a kind way, that like the snow we could bring the community together? I have listed a few below to get you going.

1. Organise a street party for the spring. This is great as you could make sure that everyone is involved and that a good time is had by all.

2. Get a group of local residents together that like gardening and give your street a spring clean. You will soon find that others want to join in and help.

3. If you are a mother of a young child, then why not organise a coffee morning where your toddlers can meet other kids and you can meet other mothers in your area.

So there are three great ideas to get you started. Having a sense of community around you can make all the difference. Putting a little 'time investment' in the people around you will make you feel great. <bio>Richard MacKenzie is an expert in the field of Hypnotherapy - http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/ He is also the best selling author of Self-Change Hypnosis - http://www.amazon.com/Self-Change-Hypnosis-Richard-MacKenzie/dp/1412045320 </bio>
