Dublin may have said 'no' to the Lisbon Treaty, but that's no reason to reject the Portuguese capital! Lisbon is a lively, vibrant city that makes for an excellent touring base. Renting a car in Lisbon allows you to get the best of both the city and the surrounding countryside. The city built on 7 hills offers a host of wonderful attractions. The following is a guide to the best ways of spending your time in Lisbon.

Lisbon Airport Mini Guide:

Lisbon Portela Airport is situated 7km to the north of Lisbon. The airport offers a good range of passenger facilities including shopping, banks and restaurants.

Things To See/Do in Lisbon:

Set on seven hills, where the River Tagus flows into, the Atlantic Ocean, the wonderful city of Lisbon boasts a beautiful location that is the perfect base from which to explore Portugal. In the city centre, eye-grabbing sights include the Baixa district, a famous UNESCO World Heritage site. A gentle stroll through the quaint cobbled squares and winding arcades makes it easy to see why. The fact that the city underwent a complete rebuild after the 1775 earthquake makes it all the more remarkable. To gain the best view of the city, it's worth making a short trek towards the Elevador de Santa Justa, a decorative, quirky cast-iron street elevator that carried its first passengers skywards in 1901. Outside of the city centre, popular attractions include Belém, renowned for being the port where Portugal's great explorers embarked on voyages of discovery all over the globe. Rent a car in Lisbon and embrace the spirit of these great explorers. Travel to new territories and discover hidden gems that you never knew existed. The best thing about renting a car in Lisbon is that you won't have to rely on public transport, timetables or annoying scheduled stops, which cut valuable time off you touring experience. Independent of all of these drawbacks, you'll be free to discover Lisbon and its wonderful surrounding countryside at a pace that suits you.

Eating Out in Lisbon:

Eating out in Lisbon allows you to sample some of the best seafood that Portugal has to offer. As the capital, you'll find the largest fish market in the country in Lisbon which always has fresh stocks of fresh fish and seafood. Traditional favourites worth a try include Bacalhau salted cod and Sardinhas assades- grilled sardines.

Day Trips/Events in Lisbon:

Lisbon makes for a fantastic base from which to discover the hidden gems of Portugal's western region, villages and coastal resorts. Attractive excursions include the pretty town of Sintra, located just 45km away. Sun-seekers needn't fret either. The nearby beaches of Estoril and Cascais are the perfect place to soak up the glorious sunshine.

Lisbon has a bubby, frenetic nightlife that would rival Berlin or Madrid in terms of its intensity. The locals really know how to let their hair down in Lisbon and their events calendar gives them every chance to do so. June's fantastic San Antonio festivities take place from the 12th.<bio>Fiona writes for Argus Car Hire and Car Hire Portugal</bio>

Portugal's Silver Coast region is often overlooked when property investors look at property in Portugal. However, in reality, it is the heart of this fantastic country and has so much to offer to both investors and holiday makers.

The Silver Coast extends from Castelo de Paiva at the north end to Arruda dos Vinhos in the south. It also has the largest motorway in the country, running the length of the coast. Even those who do not directly visit the Silver Coast are likely to be wowed as they pass through on their way from Lisbon to Oporto.

Primarily, the Silver Coast is made up of small, traditional fishing villages, although as time goes by, more holiday resorts with new build apartments and hotels are appearing along the previously untouched coast line. A classic example of this is the village of Nazare, which has a wonderful sandy beach surrounded by hotels and apartments, whereas further away from the beach, heading up towards the hills, there are nothing but traditional fishing villages and local residents.

Although the name Silver Coast suggests that the entire region is made up of beach resorts, there is, however, also a large amount of inland space which is equally beautiful. Many rivers run through the Silver Coast area, which keep the inland regions fertile and perfect for growing crops such as grapes, fruit and rice.

The great thing about the Silver Coast is the variety of different styles of property that are available to purchase. At one end of the scale it is possible to purchase a 700 square metre plot of land in order to develop your own property, for less than 70,000 Euros. One of the best ways to invest in the Silver Coast region is to look at the new build apartments that are being developed across the country. By purchasing a new build apartment with sea views, in a popular holiday resort, investors can make the most of the long summer season and the positive tourist market. New build apartments are available from as little as 100,000 Euros and very few sell for more than 250,000 Euros.

Modern tourists were not the first to discover the beauty of Portugal's Silver Coast; the Portuguese royal family regularly visits the ancient city of Leiria which is very close to Lisbon. This beautiful city makes a perfect retreat for the family, as it acts as a good base in order to visit the impressive abbeys of Batalha and Alcobaca.

For those in search of a bit more action, there is the famous resort of Figueira de Foz, which is still one of the most important towns. It was the ancient capital of Portugal, although these days it is better known for its enormous casino!

These well developed areas are an excellent investment for those looking for instant rental and good long-term prospects. It is also a reasonably safe prospect as these regions have had considerable government investment, in order to ensure their success. However, those investors who are looking for a bargain may be better off considering under-developed areas and small villages where the really cheap properties can still be found. Of course, this approach is higher risk, but there is the possibility of huge capital gains.

Whatever you are looking for as a property investment, Portugal's Silver Coast is bound to be able to come up with something to suit you. So get in there, before you get priced out of this booming region! <bio>Providing essential information on buying Portugal property, Tem Pearson is dedicated to offering all the necessary information for people looking to buy property in Portugal . But their city was falling into decay and renovation became a priority.

Recent years has seen Lisbon begin to clean up its act. Hosting the 2004 European Football Championships focused the city and brought about an exiting new era.

For years Lisbon sat awash with building sites and rubble, eager to regain its status as one of the major calling ports of Europe.

Downtown Lisbon was stuck in a time warp. Tight, cobbled streets were a throwback to the 18th century, a million miles from the ultra-modern, cosmopolitan capitals of Europe.

Today, Lisbon is at the dawn of a bright new age and keen to promote itself in a new world of tourism.

The devastating earthquake of 1755 led to new town planning, much of which exists to this day. Urgent reconstruction was necessary to keep Portugal's capital up and running. A new infrastructure heralded the start of a new era.

The Praca do Comercio sits at the edge of the waterfront. The pretty square attracts the pigeons en masse and looks up to a magnificent archway. The perimeter is laced with retail stores; busy shoppers dart from one to the other, seeking their bargains.

The square provides a focal point for much of the local community. The folk gather and exchange conversation whilst children dance and play, adding to the general din.

The delightful smell of cooking emanates from the surrounding restaurants and drifts enticingly across the square, inducing your hunger.

Opened in 1901, the Elevador de Santa Justa is an outdoor cast-iron lift. Catering exclusively for those with a head for heights, the elevator provides unparalleled views of the streets beneath. The tiny people below scurry around the busy backstreets, all with somewhere to go.

East of the city, Alfama is a legacy of Moorish times, retaining much of the old architecture. Following Christian victory in the religious wars, the Romanesque cathedral was built on the site of a mosque in 1147. <bio>Steven Cronin owns the City Breaks website featuring city break special offers from luxury hotels to budget accommodations.
The Algarve is atypical sun and sand holiday destination attracting tens of thousands of Europeans every summer. Although the region has much to offer both the package holiday maker, independent traveller and, of course, golfer, many visitors to Portugal fail to get beyond the trappings of the holiday resorts and sample the real Portugal.

Outside of the Algarve, Portugal has a long and illustrious history. An independent nation since 1143, Portugal is one of the oldest nations in Europe and it's location on the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula dictates a long history of sea faring and discovery. A vast monumental and cultural legacy has been left for modern visitors to enjoy. The tourist information site gives an interesting and informative overview of the cultural and historic attractions of the country as well as useful guides to the regions and cities of Portugal (http://www.portugal.org/tourism/index.html ).

The capital city, Lisbon, is an ideal location for a short break and is rapidly gaining a reputation as such. A thriving and bustling mix of the old and new, Lisbon retains a respect for its historic past whilst offering the visitor the attractions and amenities that could be expected of a main European city. The city is dominated by the old port area -- the departure point for explorers such as Magellan -- and recent regeneration of the area is sympathetic and impressive. Lisbon comes to life at night as the locals descend on the pavement restaurants and bars creating a relaxed, sociable and informal atmosphere.

Further North and the impressive, World Heritage status city of Porto can be found. The city, of course, lends its' name to the world famous variety of wine but the city's baroque and Romanesque architecture leave a lasting and perhaps not as regrettable impression. Although the Algarve signs to mind when you mention beaches and Portugal, the coastal region of Minho, to the north of Porto have perhaps the most stunning beaches in the country. The area has some resorts, but these are quieter and smaller in scale to their southern counterparts and offer a quieter, perhaps more relaxed beach holiday than the Algarve.

Travelling to Portugal via, Lisbon, Porto or Faro is relatively easy from the UK with most operators offering direct flights from a range of UK airports. Internal flights are relatively inexpensive and the rail system is cheap and efficient. Portugal is a relatively small country and is negotiable by road for those looking to traverse wide areas. Car rental in Portugal is abundant -- especially in Lisbon and Porto and most of the major car hire firms offer one way or return car hire in Portugal (http://www.easycar.com/car-hire/destination/Portugal.aspx/EN ).

The Algarve is an ideal family holiday destination and has many charms but Portugal as a country has much more to offer for those willing to explore a little further. <bio>Michael is a keen writer, and internet marketer living in Scotland: Contact details: E-mail: samqam@googlemail.com Phone: 0131 561 2251 Michael's Website: http://www.gransha-taxi.co.uk </bio>

Portugal is a great place to live and work. Any property you buy will sure to be a good investment. Since 200 the property market has steadily grown at around 10-15% annually. With properties of such a high standard and with its economy the way it is it is not hard to see why people are moving to Portugal.

Portugal is a country with a rich seafaring history and is located on the west coast of the Iberian Peninsula west of Spain. In the summer you can expect beautiful hot sunny days inland and on the coastal areas slightly cooler. Along the Algarve the coast is sheltered from north winds and has the higher summer temperatures. The Portuguese winters are very mild and pleasant without the hot weather.

The biggest appeal of buying a property in Portugal is the benign tax system which allows avoidance of the worst effects of capital gains and inheritance tax. Also the annual rate of unemployment is very low which is encouraging.

Despite the fact that Portugal is one of the smallest and least developed countries in European terms it has the fastest developing economies in the EU. One of the main reasons is because of the easy access to 360 million neighbours and the fact that the work force is young with labour costs considerably lower than those of the rest of the EU countries. The country was also given 22.8 billion Euros from the EU and part of these funds went into developing the transport system which included privatisation of the airline, building a light train track, as well as developing an airport at Porto. In 2004 the country hosted the European Football championships which brought in plenty of revenue at the time. With regards to natural resources Portugal has huge deposits of timber cork, iron, copper coal and marble.

One of the top choices regarding which city to move to is the Silver Coast. It is an up and coming area with many Brits selling up in the Algarve and moving up to the Oeste Region which is located just about Lisbon. The Algarve used to the hot spot to live but now it is over run with Brits. The attraction to The Silver Coast area is partly because it is a very Portuguese area with farming being the main source of income for the locals. You can really experience the Portuguese way of life. Because the properties are much cheaper than in the Algarve area it's it worth investing in. The potential of significant property prises in the area is attracting people wanting to buy and live in the area as well as buying to let a holiday home. The Silver Coast stretches from Porto down to Lisbon and has some of the most spectacular beaches, amazing cliffs, beautiful country side and some great historical sites.

Moving to Portugal is always better if you're planning on learning the language. The locals will respect you a lot more if you can show you are trying to fit into their society. It's the same with moving to any foreign country. Apart from making every day life a lot simpler it also means you will be able to speak to the locals and really interact and get into the Portuguese way of life.<bio>Carolyn is the webmaster of overs International Ltd experts in Removals to Portugal, removals to Spain and Removals to France.</bio>

Choosing the top 10 is always difficult, however the courses listed here all provide a variety of challenges and are set in magnificent surrounds.

Great greens in sunny Algarve Central Algarve's premier golfing destination, the Quinta do Lago Estate has two of its four excellent 18-hole courses listed among Europe's top 25 golf courses. These are bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Ria Formosa nature reserve, there are 72 holes of challenging golf with immaculate greens. Quinta do Lago South, the original championship course, is still regarded as the best.

Just 20 minutes' drive from Faro International Airport, the par 73, 18-hole Vilamoura Old Course has a great variety of holes that include some some steep grades. The course, lined with pines and cork trees, deserves its reputation as one of the best in Europe. Facilities include a driving range and putting green.

Vale do Lobo, Portugal's biggest luxury golf and beach resort, has three courses. The Royal and the Ocean, both par 72, have stunning views of the coast, and its 5 km-long sandy beach. The ultimate Algarve course is San Lorenzo rated in the top ten in Europe, it is difficult to get a tee time unless you stay in the 5 star Dona Filipa hotel which owns the course.

One of the best courses in the Algarve, the par 72, 18-hole Vale da Pinta, was designed to retain natural valleys and undulations. Free of green fees for those lucky enough to be staying at the Pestana Carlton, the course, with large, deep greens and bunkers, follows hills and valleys through old olive, almond and fig orchards.

The pick of the Lisbon Coast Oitavos Golf Club at Quinta da Marinha, is the home of the Portuguese Open. Kept in pristine natural condition, coastal scenery combines with holes lined with umbrella pines, shrubs and dunes. It is Europe's first Audubon Gold Signature Sanctuary. The two consecutive par 5s on the front side, and two par 3s on the back are part of one of Europe's toughest 18-hole courses.

The Ritz-Carlton's Penha Longa course features 27 holes in a stunning natural setting that runs to 6,890 yards from the championship tees. A nine-hole option, The Monastery, includes a section of old ruins.

Estoril opened in 1936, is short (less than 6,000 yards) but tight and difficult, and the longer holes require accurate wedge and iron play. Guests of the Palacio Estoril Hotel are given preference to play here, although the course is included in some golf packages.

Aroeira I, opened in 1973, is renown for its stunning natural beauty. The 18-hole, par 72, championship course is one of the best in Europe, and has hosted the Portuguese Open.

One of the most challenging courses in the Lisbon area, Quinta do Peru, is in the Costa Azul region, between the castle towns of Sesimbra and Setubal. The par 4, 12th has a lake running the length of the fairway and the par 3,16th, all of 200 metres, has a lake guarding the green.

In the North of Portugal, an hour from Lisbon, lies the challenging, par 72 Praia D=E9l Rey course with its mixture of links-type fairways and forests and dunes. Many of the holes have ocean views, but the walk between some greens is long and hilly, so a cart is recommended.

The Madeira Islands' best course The Madeira Islands have three major golf courses, and the par 72, 18-hole Palheiro, on the main island, is recommended for its challenging greens. Built on volcanic hills, the course traverses peaks and valleys, and is set among a pine forest and other natural vegetation. <bio>Rod Ritchie, a travel writer and editor, writes for many publishers including AA Publishing and Fodors.
The Casino Estoril is the largest of Portugal's casinos with 21 gaming tables and some 1,000 slot and video poker machines. In fact, it may well be Europe's largest casino, as the Portuguese claim, but with the building programs going on that might not last much longer.

One of the things that makes the Casino Estoril so different amongst not just Portugal's casinos but the others of Europe is the role it had from the 1920's to the 1950's. Estoril was quite the most fashionable part of Europe for a certain set. After World War One, Dr. Salazar set Portugal up as a Fascist State: that doesn't sound like the sort of thing that would make a place popular, we know. However, what it did mean was that as the various problems arose in Central Europe, the various revolutions and so on, and then WWII itself, Portugal was seen as a safe haven for those with money. So there were a lot of dispossessed aristocrats, even some royalty, that made their way to Estoril over those years. The fact that Portugal (like Spain) was not in WWII either helped as well. It wasn't until Grace Kelly's marriage to Prince Rainier after WWII that Monaco usurped that position as "the" place to be.

A list of Portugal's casinos includes:

Espinho : Casino Solverde de Espinho

Estoril: Casino Estoril

Figuera da Foc: Casino Figuera da Foz

Madeira: Casino da Maderia and Casino Park Hotel

Monte Gordo: Casino Monte Gordo

Portimao: Hotel Algarve Casino

Povoa de Varzin: Casino Povoa de Varzim

Quarteira: Casino de Vilamoura

In addition to this list of long-established Portugal casinos, an entirely new one opened in April 2006 in Lisbon called, amazingly, the Casino Lisbon.

There's another reason why the Casino Estoril is quite the grandest of Portugal's casinos, over and above those inter-war years. The entire area around Estoril has been the playground of the rich Portuguese for centuries. Just north is Sintra (which is where Lord Byron wrote Childe Harold), which is where the Portuguese landowners would vacation in the cool away from the stifling summer heat of the plains. As fashions changed and people decided that being by the sea on vacation was the thing to do, then the nearest two villages to Sintra were Estoril and Cascais. Both places still keep that aura as a place for the rich to vacation, far away from the hordes of the less wealthy, who tend to use the beaches on the other side of the river from Lisbon. <bio>This article is the property of http://www.portugal-casinos.net </bio>

Portugal is a great choice for golf. It's close enough to get to easily and far enough to offer a very different feel to back home. On top of that, Lisbon is great for food and culture and has plenty of very good courses within easy reach. Luxury golf holidays near Portugal's capital "tick a lot of boxes!"

Here are five golf courses near Lisbon that you must sample while you're out there. You simply won't find a stronger concentration of quality anywhere else in the country.

5. Quinta do Peru

This is a fairly flat and generous course for the most part, punctuated with a couple of soft climbs and two long par 3's where you'd do well not to drop a shot. The real bonus about this course is its setting - in a pine forest of more than 300 acres and with the Arrabida Mountains as a back drop, this fine golf course in Portugal not only provides a great game but is a real pleasure for the eyes as well. It's one of the most exclusive in the area but we can book you a tee-time or two.

4. Penha Longa

The first thing that will strike you when walking around Penha Longa is that you've left in your camera in your room! The combination of waterfalls, ancient monuments and gorgeous countryside make playing this course a real treat -- but don't let it distract you from the course, for this is Trent Jones at his most subtle. Well-protected greens and hilly terrain make club selection and playing with your brain vital. One of Europe's finest and past host to the Portuguese Open.

3. Praia d'El Rey Obidos

The par 72 Praia d'El Rey is a soft links course that offers a real taste of "the way golf should be played" without being overly difficult. It's also beautiful. Spread out amid pine trees, beachside dunes and inland water, it's very easy to find yourself distracted but stay focused, look at how the terrain is shaped and enjoy! Designed by the highly-regarded American architect Cabell B. Robinson, this golf course near Lisbon should definitely be on your list for a rewarding round of golf combined with Atlantic Ocean views.

2. Troia

This is a very fine test of golf and very difficult off the back tees. It's also extremely attractive with the trees, fairways and dunes mingling to perfection. Robert Trent Jones Senior designed one of his best courses here and he is deservedly proud of it. It's got his typical hallmarks: bold bunkers, raised greens and challenging doglegs but it's got that X Factor too. To get to the club, you need to take a short ferry crossing from Setubal to the Peninsula of Troia -- it all adds to the magic of the day.

1. Oitavos

Regular host to the Portuguese Open, this course is a master class of how to mix bogey, par and birdie holes. You can attack, you have to defend and you have to think. Play Stableford or Matchplay and try to play the course twice as there are lots of surprises first time round. The wide fairways lead to narrow greens through dunes and umbrella pines so you can be relatively loose off the tee but then it's down to the serious stuff! Close to the Atlantic, there's definitely a links feel and the "design" clubhouse and delicious estate wines provide the perfect frame to a great day's golf.<bio>Morgan Clarke is the Chairman of Your Golf Holidays, a company that has been providing bespoke golf holidays for over 25 years. They are experts in the world's best places to play, including luxury golf holidays in Portugal, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Dubai, Morocco and over 20 other countries.</bio>

The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of wonderful coastline. Italy is such a wonderful place and the Amalfi Coast really encapsulates its beauty. The terrain can be rugged, but the scenery is to die for. And there are plenty of things to do. You'll find great local items--try the wine while you're there.

The Amalfi Coast is a World Heritage Site. There are several coast towns, including: Amalfi, Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Ravello, Scala, Atrani, Conca dei Marini, Positano, Praino and Furore. You're also right by Naples, which is a great Italy city.

Most of the famous sights along the Amalfi Coast are churches. There are great scenic spots, little shops, bars and other places to visit. If you're planning to stay anywhere in the Amalfi Coast area, you can a wide selection. There's the "world famous" luxury hotels, the small bed and breakfast, the budget-friendly hotel and everything in between.

Here's a collection of Amalfi Coast hotels that you might be interested in. I've broken them down by location along the coast as well.

Positano

Il San Pietro -- This is the best place to stay around Positano, from a luxury perspective. The price is higher, but you have access to a private beach and bar. There's even a pool on the upper level of the hotel. This hotel is just outside of Positano.

Palazzo Murat -- If you want to be in the heart of Positano, this hotel is for you. The price is midlevel. The bedrooms are very comfortable and bigger than usual. They take guests from April through September (the typical Italy vacation season).

La Fenice -- This is a budget-friendly establishment. It's a smaller hotel located on the edge of Positano. The walkways are steep, so if you have issues walking, this wouldn't be a place for you. Try to get a room that's closest to the water.

Amalfi

Santa Caterina -- This is a large mansion that located just outside of the main area of Amalfi. It's one of the best hotels along the Amalfi Coast. This hotel features 66 rooms, 2 restaurants, cable TV, saltwater pool, gym, beach access, bars, and data ports. It's definitely a great place to stay if it's within your budget.

Hotel dei Cavalieri -- Located on the outskirts of Amalfi is this clean-looking hotel. The rooms are bright and fully furnished. You can start the day right by enjoying their breakfast buffet. This Amalfi Coast hotel offers 54 rooms, one restaurant, cable TV, and a bar.

As is the case with any hotel along the Amalfi Coast, you need to book ahead of time. As you can see, these hotels don't have thousands of rooms and they will get booked up. The Amalfi Coast is very beautiful with lots to do. You really can't go wrong with spending some time here. Some Italy vacationers spend their entire vacation in this area. This area is a great place to enjoy a relaxing and fun filled holiday. There are many activities to choose from and picturesque places to view and photograph.

Oregon Coast vacation rentals can make your holiday quite comfortable and relaxing by offering the advantages you would find at home including your own kitchen and laundry facilities. Other amenities include barbeques, stereo systems, movies, hot tubs, fireplaces and games. You could also find a unit that allows you to bring your pet as well. These types of amenities are not available at all locations so it is important to find this out while doing your research.

Oregon Coast vacation rentals are great holidays for families to bring their children, as there is plenty for the kids to do especially along the beaches. The coast is not all beaches as there are magnificent rocky shorelines featuring crashing waves on the shore. There are magnificent forests that reach right to the coast as well. Some areas along the coast offer great crab and clamming along with fishing.

While staying at Oregon Coast vacation rentals there are plenty of activities to undertake in urban areas as well. These activities include antique shops, fine dining, artist studios, and galleries. Other tourist locations along the coast are The Sea Lion Caves, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the Chinook Winds Casino and the Newport Historic Bayfront.

Many people take advantage of Oregon Coast vacation rentals to enjoy whale watching. Gray whales spend many months near the coast, especially in the summer and fall months but you can see them year round. Wear appropriate clothing and bring binoculars. Try to have the sun at your back to locate the blows with your eyes then focus in with the binoculars. In addition, calmer weather is much better for whale watching. You do not need to be on the water to see them, as there are many great vantage points along the coast. In the morning, with the sun at your back is best.

You can also find some excellent golf courses along the coast as well. Therefore, your Oregon Coast vacation rentals cover activities on land and on sea. Some people also enjoy sea kayaking along the coast too. You can find rentals that feature just one bedroom, two bedrooms, three bedrooms and even four bedrooms or more in some cases. Many homes available for rent are right on the coast so you get a spectacular ocean view.

There are many outdoor activities you can take part in while enjoying your Oregon Coast vacation rentals including biking and hiking that we have not already mentioned.
Golf holidaying with a family presents its own special challenges. Keeping non-golfers in the family happy and feeling like they are having a real holiday, while at the same time getting your fill of golf, is worth that bit of extra travel planning. The following European golf resort holiday destinations are perfect for family holidays.

Central Algarve Central Algarve, with its beautiful scenery, perfect weather, and exceptional golf courses, is one of Europe's top golfing destinations. Resorts such as Vilamoura, Quinta do Lago, and Vale do Lobo, and Vilamoura offer much more than golf and will provide non-golfers with all the holiday variety they would expect from a first-class resort. At Quinta do Lago, a 2,000-acre exclusive residential and recreational estate, you have countryside and pine forests, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Ria Formosa nature reserve as your playground, plus 72 holes of golf. Horse riding and tennis as well as a variety of water sports will keep your family occupied during the day, and there are classy restaurants, hip nightclubs for night-time entertainment, as well as the Bourganvilla Shopping Centre and a health club. The stunning two-mile stretch of golden-sand is a bonus.

Vale do Lobo, receiver of accolades such as "Best Resort of the Millennium", and the Algarve's largest leisure resort, has quality accommodation and diverse sporting facilities, including one of the largest tennis facilities in Portugal. Vale do Lobo, with its two (going on three) 18-hole championship courses, hosts around 100,000 golfers each year.

Vilamoura, twice the size of Vale do Lobo, has tennis courts, a riding school, fishing and shooting facilities, and indoor and outdoor sports complexes, as well as five golf courses. Amazing vessels are moored at the large marina, home to restaurants, cafes and shops. A surprisingly cosmopolitan nightlife consists of bars, clubs and restaurants.

Costa Del Sol Costa del Sol offers variety both on and off the fairways, and the mild winters and beautiful springs and autumns are perfect for golf. There are around 20 courses, leisure areas, playgrounds and family attractions, as well as beaches and seaside promenades. Three excellent water parks are open from Easter for the summer season, with water slides, pools for all ages and abilities, as well as picnic areas and restaurants. At a number of nature parks you can see animals and enjoy educational programs. Selwo Aventura has over 2,000 wild animals and an unrivalled nature reserve, and Selwo Marina has exotic birds, an underwater observation centre, and dolphins. At the Benalmádena Sea Life Centre, an interactive underwater park, you can walk on the bottom of the sea and view thousands of aquatic species.

The Lisbon Coast There are great golf courses here and the beaches are perfect for families. The scenery, magnificent with its small fishing bays and towering cliffs, and the superb local cuisine worth the trip alone. And nearby Lisbon, has all the diversity that a capital city can offer. Quinta da Marinha resort has leisure facilities including three salt-water outdoor swimming pools, a fitness centre with heated indoor swimming pool, six tennis courts and a tennis school, a Turkish bath, sauna, Jacuzzi, gym, massage room, bicycle hire, horse riding, and, last but not least, an 18-hole golf course.

Praia D'el Rey Marriott, just 60-minute drive from Lisbon airport, is a beachfront hotel with spacious family rooms, away from the tourist crush. The hotel has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a health club, Jacuzzi and tennis courts. Nearby Obidos, a charming hill town set within 14th-century castellated walls, is a perfect day trip destination. And the Praia d'el Rey golf course, one of Europe's finest, is right on your doorstep. <bio>Rod Ritchie writes for many publishers including AA Publishing and Fodors. http://www.billgoff.com and http://www.longshotgolf.co.uk offer great value golfing breaks to many European and worldwide destinations. </bio>

The Sunshine Coast is just north of Brisbane the capital of Queensland, Australia and takes in 65 kilometers (40 miles) of beaches up the coast.

Central to the landscape of the sunshine coast are the Glasshouse Mountains. Named by Captain Cook in 1770 when he first discovered Australia, because with the morning sun glinting off them they reminded him of the glasshouses from his native home of England.

The Glasshouse Mountains are a significant attraction on the Sunshine coast and surrounding hinterland, that recently they were added to the Australian National Heritage Register.

Along the entire coast line and scattered through the surrounding hills are many towns geared for the traveler, with events happening continuously.

And with such beautiful scenery and fabulous weather, it's not hard to see why it is fast becoming a holiday haven.

The glamour spot on the coast is Noosa, with high rise accommodation, night clubs, shopping, galleries, world class restaurants and of course the championship 18 hole golf course. Whatever, you could wish for on a holiday, you will find it here.

Just a few miles along the coast are many other delightful holiday towns including Caloundra, Coolum and Maroochydore.

Get away from the beach and travel up into the mountains of the hinterland. Visit charming Maleny and Montville. This area is a Mecca for artists and those of creative spirit. You could easily spend several days wandering the streets visiting many interesting shops and galleries. It is a great place to find unique gifts for family at home.

Whilst on the Sunshine Coast you must visit the acclaimed World Heritage listed Fraser Island. The largest sand island in the world, it is 123 km (76 miles) long and a must see. Enjoy a tour of the island in a specially designed 4wd bus or hire your own 4wd for a do it yourself tour. For your first time, I suggest the tour -- they are great fun and provide heaps of information, we went a few years ago and had a blast.

So whether you like strolling the beach; swimming; bush walking; shopping or just lazing around the Sunshine Coast has heaps to offer and is sure to be a holiday you won't want to forget.

Happy Holidaying Lisa Paterson <bio>Lisa writes for http://www.the-great-barrier-reef-experience.com/great-barrier-reef-location.html about the Great Barrier Reef and what it has to offer as a holiday destination. </bio>

A Great Mexico Travel Special should include time spent on the Mexico Caribbean Coast, where you will find so much to do and so many things to enjoy. You can easily organise a Mexico Vacation Package that will allow you to travel around Mexico seeing some of the Country's amazing sights and then allow you to finish with a relaxing time on the Mexico Caribbean Coast.

On the Caribbean coastline of Mexico there are spellbinding soft white sand beaches, and clear unpolluted turquoise blue seas. There are lagoons, coves and inlets, and that is the reason for the popularity with tourists, and many many thousands of Mexico vacation packages are sold every year to the Yucatan Peninsula. That is not to say it is all like Cancun and Cozumel, busy and energetic, because there are many other places of great charm for holidaymakers to stay, and many many things for them to do.

The Mexico Caribbean Coast is in the state of Quintana Roo, with Yucatan to the north, the west by Campeche, and then there is the British Belize to the south.

The way that the Caribbean coast has been developed shows different characteristics dependent on where you go. As an example Puerto Morelos is a very relaxed fishing village sort of place, whilst Playa del Carmen is packed with resorts and is a home to the all inclusive vacation.

The Mexico Caribbean Coast isn't just about beaches and partying, and many people have a Mexico Travel Special vacation involving the Mayan culture. Wherever you look along the coast there is evidence of this ancient civilization in the ruins all along the coast.

Tulum on the coast has dramatic ruins overlooking the Caribbean welcoming the sunrise every morning, and are the only Mayan ruins overlooking the sea. If you then go a short distance inland to Coba you will see the towering pyramids which are now covered by the jungle but nevertheless impressively shows how important the site was in ancient times.

If you continue to travel south along the Mexico Caribbean Coast you will come to the archaeological dig at Kohunlich where there are not only pyramids but also temples and palaces. This is a great place to go because despite all the wonderful work unearthing these ancient buildings there are very few people who visit.

Right down at the border with Belize there is the capital of Quintana Roo calledChetuma This is a modern city but worth a visit just to see the brightly painted wooden houses left over from time gone by.

To summarise some of the top reasons to go to the Mexico Caribbean Coast.

The ruins of Tulum. Diving or snorkelling at Puerto Morelo's Natural reef Park. Exploring the inland jungle and the ancient ruins. Relaxing, perhaps with a thoroughly decadent massage or body treatment in an all inclusive resort for which the Mexico Caribbean Coast has become famous. If you like fishing, then casting for bonefish off the Chinchorro Reef.

Here there is something for everyone who takes a Mexico Vacation Package

For more information go to http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com/categories/Caribbean-Hotel-Hideaways/ <bio>Peter Stewart writes exclusively for http://www.in-kenyasafari.com as well as http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com and has visited personally many of the places he reports on, and has done extensive research on the others </bio>

Central Coast California real estate-this is the location of many people's dreams.

Obviously, California is considered by many people as one of the most spectacular states in America, with it's mix of mountain ranges, national parks, lakes, and of course, the bordering Pacific Ocean to it's west.

Combine that with the warm and dry weather the state receives, and it is one of the most in demand places to live anywhere in the country. No, it's not cheap to live in this area of the state, as I will explain later, but there are some ways to save money.

What areas does the central coast consist of? Generally, it is anyplace between Monterey Bay and Point Conception.

It goes through five different counties in between. As you might expect for this area, central coast California real estate is very pricey when compared with real estate around the country, due to the pacific ocean and of course, the fact that it's in the state of California.

Anywhere you want to move in California, you can expect to pay an arm and a leg, and this is just amplified if you want to live on the coast.

However, if you have the money, it is definitely worth it. The area has a thriving tourism industry, as many people want to bask in the California sunshine during their breaks.

Obviously, as I alluded to before, it has tremendous views of the pacific ocean, and in fact, the coastline in the area stretches for some two hundred and fifty miles. The university of California and California state are both located in the area as well, so if you have kids that will go to college someday, this is another consideration.

Another benefit of this area is that it is not a big city atmosphere. Unlike San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, etc, this area is much more subdued and relaxed, and offers the great weather these places do but without that big city atmosphere.

The area actually only contains about three percent of the state's population, largely because there are no big cities located within the central coast of California. However, despite the smaller town feeling, you still get all the benefits of being near a large city, as San Diego and Los Angeles are both just a short drive away.

No matter what kind of entertainment you enjoy, you can find it in these cities, so the central coast really is the best of both world, in that you get all the advantages of a big city without actually having to live in the daily hustle and bustle of it.

How do the prices compare with the rest of the state? Generally, they are around twenty percent higher, but unless you plan on moving to Santa Barbara, the homes are still reasonably priced.

The best thing about central coast California real estate is that the prices have been going down as of late. Particularly with the recent economic woes, so if you want to get in, now is definitely the time.

The bottom line is, if you are looking for an outdoor lover's paradise, with tremendous ocean views and year round ideal temperatures, and you have the budget to handle it, then this is the place for you.<bio>Tired of overpaying and losing money with real estate?
Africa is a land of mystery. The diversity of culture throughout the dark continent is a portrayal of humankind's evolution from its beginnings to modern times. The native inhabitants of the continent are a conglomeration of tribal communities, but in the fifteenth century the Europeans sent explorers to Africa in their quest for expansion. In the southwest, along the Gulf of Guinea, is The Ivory Coast. In the mid eighteen hundreds this land of abundant resources captured the interest of the French government who established a colony there. The Ivory Coast was subject to the crown of France for over 100 years until it gained its independence in 1960.

France's influence on The Ivory Coast is such that even now, with an independent government, the African nation has maintained firm ties with its European benefactors. In 1985 they officially established themselves as La Republique de Côte d'Ivoire (French translation for the Republic of the Ivory Coast) and are listed on the United Nations registry as such. Although British and American news agencies still refer to it as The Ivory Coast, presumably to minimize confusion, the country is properly known in any language as Côte d'Ivoire.

It is an exotic country that is a mosaic of coastal forests laced with inland lagoons that give way to the savannas and grasslands of the interior. The climate in Côte d'Ivoire is warm and humid with three distinct seasons. They are warm and dry from November to March, hot and dry from March to May, and hot and wet from June to October.

The agriculture of the Ivory Coast makes it one of the most prosperous regions in Africa. In the south, on the Ebrie Lagoon, is a land mass of converging islands and peninsulas. This is where the city of Abidjan was built. Abidjan is a booming business and cultural center, and was once the former capital of Ivory Coast. It is known as the "Paris of Africa" with fashionable shopping districts and world class hotels, and is billed as one of the safest most desireable tourist destinations in West Africa.

Abidjan international airport is serviced by Air France and Swissair, as well as other local airlines. There are taxis, buses and trains available in the terminal. These options are inexpensive, but safety precautions need to be taken when using these modes of transportation. Car rentals are also available.

There is a good selection of hotel accommodations in Abidjan. The list includes Hotel Tiama, Novotel Abidjan, African Queen Lodge, Ibis Abidjan Marcory, and the Hotel Ivoire Intercontinental to name a few.

Vacationing in Africa would be considered adventure travel by most. The cultures there are diverse and, at times, are at odds with each other. But, going beyond one's own boundaries and experiencing the customs of a different culture can certainly help in bridging the gaps in a conflicted world. Abidjan is a city that has effectively integrated its cultural diversity into a functioning society. Travelers would benefit from the education of visiting there.<bio>For more information on the Ivory Coast, visit http://www.AbidjanBlog.net</bio>

Whether you're piloting a 40-foot sailboat or a canoe, the United States Coast Guard requires that every boat carry certain safety equipment. The equipment is not expensive or hard to find and may save your life in an emergency. Boaters who carry the standard safety equipment are statistically far more likely to survive a boating emergency than those who don't.

The Coast Guard requires that there be a personal flotation device for each person present on the boat. Although the Coast Guard does not mandate that the personal flotation device actually be worn, some state laws require them to be worn at all times when the boat is underway by children under a certain age. Most reputable marinas will be able to provide you with information on applicable state laws regarding personal flotation devices. Additionally, if a boat is more than 16 feet in length a personal flotation device that can be thrown into the water, like a life ring, is required by the Coast Guard.

Every boat, of all sizes, must have a whistle or horn. This noisemaking device serves to warn other boats of your presence and to use as a distress signal in case of emergency. Boats larger than 39.4 feet must carry both a bell and a whistle. The whistle must be able to be heard at a distance of one half a nautical mile. The bell must be at least 7.87 inches in diameter.

Visual distress signals for night time use, such as emergency flares, are required on all boats traveling coastal waters, the Great Lakes, and any connecting body of water that is more than two miles wide. Larger boats are required to carry a daytime visual signal as well. Besides flares, other visual distress signals include flags, flashlights, water dye markers, and smoke signals.

Boats larger than 26 feet must carry a Coast Guard-approved fire extinguisher. Boats with no motors such as canoes or row boats and boats less than 26 feet that don't have permanent fuel tanks are not required to carry a fire extinguisher.

The Coast Guard recommends, but does not require additional safety items. These include a blanket, oars in case the motor is disabled, a bucket for bailing and a first aid kit. Other useful items include rain ponchos and a tarp or plastic garbage back to keep yourself and your boat dry in a storm.

Finally, the Coast Guard recommends filing a plan with a responsible party before you leave so that there is at least one person on land who knows where you plan to be. <bio>Kadence Buchanan writes articles for http://4boatingstuff.com/ - In addition, Kadence also writes articles for http://baseballstuff.net/ and http://sportsoftheworld.net/ </bio>
