It is a fine off white powder that has a mild smell of pine trees, and tastes a little sweet. It is readily soluble and can be used with juice or water. It is made up of galactose, arabinose, and a trace of glucuronic acid.

The Western Larch is a member of the pine tree family. It grows naturally in the Pacific northwest of the USA. This makes it readily available for research and manufacture of dietary supplements.

It is a source of dietary fiber and helps boost your immune system. It has many uses: Larch Arabinogalactan has been found to help protect the body against cancer and it is also a powerful anti allergy and anti-inflammatory substance.

Limited research has been done on Larch Arabinogalactan, and there are many more uses that need to be looked into. Because it is easy to take, it is very convenient for the consumer to take as a diet supplement.

Another diet supplement, which also draws from natural sources, is the Australian Bush Plum, or better known as the Black Current in Europe. These taste exceptionally good and can be used much the same manner as a regular berry. It is made into sweets and syrups like Ribena, as well as cough lozenges. It has been used for many years for cough lozenges in England and due to its vitamin C content, is given to fight colds, coughs, and sore throats.

The Australian bush plum, as its name suggests, is native to Australia and grows from 6 inches to about 2 feet in height. It grows freely through the north and central parts of Australia. The aborigines have used these fruits since ancient times. They are also cultivated in England and known as black currents.

The Australian bush plum has the largest amount of vitamin C in any other food. As such, it is good for protecting the body against free radicals, which are produced by the liver when metabolism takes place. It is now used in conjunction with Glyconutrients to make a powerful antioxidant diet supplement.

Both these natural products are used with the Glyconutrients as diet supplements. The advantage is that they have little or no side effects, because they are all natural products. As more research is done, they will become more readily available and more uses will be found. As with all diet supplements, it is always good to consult your doctor before you take them to be sure you have no underlying problems that can cause conflicts. <bio>Zach Thompson is a Glyconutrients Representative.
The answer is yes, the northwestern Larch tree can boost the immune system. The fiber that has this amazing immune boosting property is found in the wood of the larch tree and its called arabinogalactan (AG). Researchers recently discovered that AG can boost the activity of natural killer (NK) cells, these cells kill off microbes and cancer cells as soon as it detected in the body. In laboratory tests, AG has shown to prevent cancer cells from spreading to the liver and organs prone to secondary tumor development. Researchers speculate that AG will become part of a supplement list shown to fight cancer in the near future.

A study done by the University of Minnesota and Southwest College discovered that AG boosts white blood cell count in health individuals and combined with Echinacea, AG increased the chemical properdin in the blood which helps the immune system fight foreign substances.

AG is also known as a prebiotic which feeds friendly bacteria in the intestinal tract and help bring balance to your colon. Friendly bacteria or flora is important to help fight bacteria and microbes that enter the body through the intestinal tract and also help in the digestion and absorption of the foods we eat.

AG is a fiber and can help get things moving in the colon, in America the average fiber consumption is 15 grams per day, this is 50% less than the recommended 30 grams of fiber needed for optimal colon health. Some don't even get 15 grams a day these individuals may suffer from chronic constipation from lack of fiber. Consuming the proper amounts of fiber each day helps with regularity and can help reduce cholesterol levels.

So to sum it up arabinogalactan (AG) helps support a healthy digestive tract by increasing regularity, by feeding friendly flora and can boost (stimulate) production of natural killer (NK) cells a primary immune system defense against cancer and bacteria.

The statements in this article are not intended to diagnose, treat and cure or prevent disease please consult your health care physician before discontinuing medication or introducing herbs into your diet. <bio>Visit VitaNet® Health Foods at http://vitanetonline.com/.
Some of the best things about Italy are found completely within the Western Alps, if you're a hiker. Of course there's the country's highest peak, which no hiker can resist. Then there is Italy's oldest national park, also found in the Western Alps. Count the amazing variety of flora and fauna, the alpine meadows, and accessible yet remote wilderness areas, and you have the perfect setting for a hiker's dream vacation in beautiful Italy. Discover Colonna mine or encounter wildlife throughout Vallone del Grand Nomenon. Reach your personal goals and try for the six-day trek along the Alta Via 2, known as a particularly challenging route. From Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso (Gran Paradiso National Park) to Valle d'Aosta, to Monte Bianco (the highest peak in Europe), there is a series of wonderful pathways for hikers and walkers who will find that traversing the Western Alps to be the experience of a lifetime.

Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso will stun you with its beauty: deep lateral peaks and plunging valleys below will amaze even the most seasoned hiker. The valleys were cut by glaciers, which left behind the jagged silhouettes and sharp peaks for which the Alps in general have become famous. There are numerous glaciers still within Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, including Italy's highest mountain, Gran Paradiso.

Gran Paradiso is just about 13,324 feet high and full of magnificent larch. Larch is a deciduous conifer, the only type found in all of Europe. Some trees get to be over one hundred feet tall and great stands of larch form sweeping green canopies in the sky which will protect you from the sun as you walk or hike the mountain. Besides larch, hikers will welcome Norway spruce, Arolla pine, and silver fir. The Arolla pine should be especially revered because it's in decline here in Italy. Furniture makers and others crave the beautiful wood for their products, and the pine has been exploited for many years.

Gran Paradiso also hosts several species of birds that are rarely, if ever, found anywhere else in Europe. Take the Bearded Vulture, which was hunted almost to extinction in the 1800s because it was thought to feed on domestic animals. Since the 1970's, however, it's been reintroduced and is now making a comeback. Also, while scaling the mountain, keep an eye out for white partridges, owl, jackdaw, alpine chaffinch, and spotted woodpecker. You might even see a lynx if you get to the higher, rocky areas during summertime. When it's cooler, they come down into the valleys.

Getting to Alle d'Aosta is easy: take a SAVDA bus from Torino (Turin) or Milan. It's also near France's Annecy, Chamonix, and Vald'Isere, and Switzerland's Martigny, if you're in either of those neighboring areas. There are also regional trains to Aosta, via Chivasso if you're leaving from Milan. You can also drive: take the A5 from either Turin or Milan.

Accommodations in Valle d'Aosta include moderately-priced small hotels around Aosta and in the suburb of Sarre. Use any one of these as you base, and enjoy the wonderful experience of hiking Italy's Western Alps, and Valle d'Aosta. <bio>Macchi http://www.keywestvacationguide.com/ </bio>

You eat right, exercise, but your body may still not be in tip-top shape. What are you missing? Internal cleansing and detoxification. When most people think of their internal health, they consider the things they are eating and taking into their body. What about the things that are just sitting around inside? There is a lot of waste that needs a way out.

There are many people who know the best way to deal with this and give your body a good cleaning, is a regular cleansing of the colon, but they may not realize there are a number of other organs that need to be cleaned out as well. In addition to your colon, your skin, kidneys, lungs and liver need a cleaning too.

Frankly, the most important organ in keeping your body clean is your liver. It has to deal with all sorts of toxins, and when the work gets to be too much and there are more and more toxins, eventually something has to give. The liver can't handle it all and some of those toxins end up in your blood and then getting into trouble throughout your body. Any effective cleansing and detoxification program will make sure to have a special emphasis on the liver for that reason. Then the other organs need to be taken care of, as well as your blood (vascular) system and lymphatic system.

While there does need to be special focus on the liver in a cleansing, the first area that needs to be cleansed is the colon, and for good reason. As we get the rest of the body's detoxification and cleansing going, a lot of that waste is going to have to make it through the colon to be removed from the body.

When you consider herbal cleansing, here are some of the ingredients you well may expect to be used to accomplish the job:

Red clover: Red clover serves two purposes, to be an expectorant and cleansing the blood.

Artichoke leaf: A formula that includes artichoke leaf is beneficial to the liver, helping heal the liver cells and helping to produce bile.

Mullein: This ingredient is good for the lungs, helping to remove mucus.

Larch gum: Larch Gum assists in the cleansing and detoxification of the lymphatic system.

Corn silk: When it is time to clean the kidneys, corn silk is the ingredient. It is a mild diuretic that will help remove waste.

Milk thistle: This antioxidant is a friend to the liver and will make the cell walls stronger and assist in the secretion of bile.

Beet: Beet will aid the liver by getting rid of fats that may be harming that organ.

Dandelion: Dandelion is a mild laxative that will help remove waste from the body during cleansing and detoxification and will also assist in the secretion of bile.

Burdock: When the skin needs cleansing help, burdock comes in, helping to expel toxins in the skin.

There are other ingredients you may want to consider as well including hawthorne berry (beneficial to heart health), aloe and rhubarb (assisting in the cleansing of the colon), and ashwagandha (which promotes healthy adrenal glands). Another easy daily way to keep your colon clean, so it's always ready for cleansing, is to eat a lot of fiber. That way you will always be pushing waste and toxins from your body. <bio>Brandon H.
Lake Louise strikes you for two reasons: the absolutely stunning scenery that surrounds it, and its huge size. Lake Louise is located in a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in Canada's first National Park. It has more than 4200 skiable acres (1700 hectares), which makes it one of the largest ski areas in all of North America. What's nice about Lake Louise, it offers all sorts of terrain, from bunny hills and easy green runs, to manageable blue runs and more difficult single and double-black diamond runs.

The terrain is nicely divided into 25% beginner runs, 45% intermediate and 30% for advanced skiers, so there is truly something for everyone. For us who most enjoy blue and single-black diamond runs, Lake Louise was heaven since it offered such a huge selection.

Naturally, such a large area needs to be serviced by a highly efficient lift system, and Lake Louise offers Summit Platter t-bar (which whisks you up to summit area of Mount Whitehorn which clocks in with an altitude of 8,765 feet (2,675 m). There are 7 chairlifts, most of them high-speed, and the Top of the World Chairlift actually holds 6 passengers, this was the first time we saw a 6-passenger chairlift. Our favourite of course was the Grizzly Express Gondola which is more than 2900 m long (over 9500 feet) and in just about 10 minutes takes you up a vertical of more than 2400 feet (736 m). In our skiing experience (essentially East Coast skiing up until now), this was the highest vertical that we ever transcended in the shortest amount of time.

Naturally, Lake Louise Ski Area is a well-known stop on the World Cup Circuit: it hosts the Winterstart Men's and Ladies World Cup Downhill and Super-G Races. Since 1991 Lake Louise has become the traditional venue for the year's first Women's Speed event. We partook of the World Cup spirit by "racing" down the Men's and Women's Downhill Slopes. The steepness of this slopes is astounding, and it is hard to imagine that ski racers actually go down these mountains straight, searching for speed, without making a turn. These two runs, the Men's and Ladies' downhill actually became my favourite runs and they were quite doable (although I didn't go straight down), especially since they were perfectly groomed.

We had a chance to go skiing twice: yesterday and today (after my exciting dog-sledding advanture) , and fortunately for us, today was a perfect winter day with crystal blue skies. The view at Lake Louise on a clear simply knocks your socks off. This mountain panorama is something else. Right when you come out of the gondola you are looking straight at a rugged mountain range whose center is highlighted by a frozen Lake Louise nestled into the Victoria Glacier.

For those who get hungry on the mountain, Lake Louise has a wide variety of choices: The Lodge of the Ten Peaks is located at the base of the gondola, and the place where I enjoyed another nourishing poutine (yes, I do feel guilty...) and a very tasty cream of asparagus. It holds a variety of eating, shopping and pub facilities. Temple Lodge is located in the valley between the Powderbowls and the Larch Area and Whitehorn Lodge is located half way up the south side of the mountain at 6750 ft (2057 m).

Lake Louise has 3 main ski areas: the Front Side or South Face which offers 1100 skiable acres. This area offers a variety of green, blue and single black diamond runs and is quite skiable for intermediate / advanced skiers. The grooming was great and we skied down some smooth mountain slopes, many of them quite steep, but nevertheless very skiable.

Our favourite runs were coming down from the Gondola and taking the Top of the World Express 6-Pack Express where you get to ski above the treeline and since you are on the edge of the mountain you get to see down into the gentler south side and the much more treacherous north side of the mountain.

The "Powderbowls" are located on the north side of the mountain and they are primarily intended for expert skiers. Most of the runs on the north side are single and double black diamond runs. The steepness and the moguls were quite intimidating for us, but nevertheless we found some green and blue runs to get us down safely. Riding up the Ptarmigan Quad Chair it's an awesome sight to watch some of the expert level skiers and how they manage this terrain so skillfully. I have a feeling we'll be sticking to blue and single black diamond runs for the foreseeable future.

Across the Powderbowls is another ski area called the "Larch Area" which offers a vertical drop of about 1230 feet (375 m). This area features mostly green and blue runs, although some of the blue runs (especially a run called the "Wolverine") had some pretty pronounced bumps built into them too. Runs like the Larch and Larch Poma are wide expansive trails with excellent grooming where you can really enjoy gliding down the mountain at pretty high speeds.

For the last hour and a half of our skiing today we made our way back to the South Side, taking the older Ptarmigan Quad back up to the top station of the Gondola. We made it up to the Top of the World a few more times and just couldn't get over the view.

I made sure at 3:50 pm today that I got another run in to the Top of the World and I really took my time going down. <bio>Susanne Pacher is the publisher of http://www.travelandtransitions.com, a web portal for unconventional travel and cross-cultural connections.
Regular internal cleansing and detoxification is essential to your overall health. Although many people will define cleansing as increased bowel elimination or simply "colon cleansing," the truth is that purging harmful toxins and waste involves the entire body, not just the colon.

Because toxins are present throughout the body, detoxification and cleansing cannot be limited to bowel cleansing alone. Rather, detoxification must be viewed as a comprehensive process that involves all of the organ systems. These organ systems are collectively referred to as the body's "channels of elimination," and each must addressed if total-body detoxification is to be effective. The five primary channels of elimination are the colon (or bowel), kidneys, liver, lungs and skin.

In addition to the five primary channels of elimination, the blood (vascular system) and lymph (lymphatic system) are critical channels of elimination that must be supported for complete detoxification to occur. When the liver is overburdened with toxins, the load travels via blood and lymph circulation to the other organs of elimination. It is therefore wise to begin with a general cleanse that is designed to support all of these organs simultaneously, with a special emphasis on the liver. General cleanse programs are easy to use and may last anywhere from two to four weeks.

An effective colon cleanse is the first step in the detoxification process. A clogged colon must first be cleared before beginning any deeper cleansing programs (such as those targeting yeast or parasites). Although some may consider it normal to eliminate only once during the day, a significant amount of waste may still remain in the colon. This waste creates toxins and can eventually lead to a chronic condition. By first cleansing the colon, a pathway is cleared for the rest of the organs to begin the detoxification process.

While there are a number of approaches that can be used to facilitate cleansing and detoxification, one of the most effective is an herbal cleansing program.

Since most of us today lead busy, stressful lives, it is important to keep the cleansing process as simple as possible. An effective herbal cleansing formula may include the following ingredients:

Milk thistle: Milk thistle stimulates bile secretion, acts as an antioxidant, and helps strengthen liver cells.

Dandelion: Dandelion stimulates bile secretion and acts as a gentle laxative.

Beet: Beet helps reduce damaging fats in the liver.

Artichoke leaf: Artichoke leaf stimulates bile secretion and protects liver cells.

Mullein: An expectorant, mullein helps expel mucus from the lungs.

Burdock: Burdock helps purge toxins that cause skin conditions.

Corn silk: Corn silk is a diuretic that helps to flush the kidneys.

Red clover: Red clover is a blood purifier and expectorant.

Larch gum: Larch gum supports the lymphatic system.

The formula may also include herbs to support the heart (such as hawthorne berry), as well as the adrenal glands (such as ashwagandha). It must also address colon detoxification. Aloe, rhubarb and triphala may help stimulate peristalsis, and magnesium hydroxide helps to lubricate the bowel. It is very important that the colon function properly or it will not be able to eliminate toxins from the liver. If that happens, the toxins will re-circulate and create more problems for the body. Fiber is also an important part of any herbal cleansing program. Cleansing stimulates the liver to release toxins into the bile, which is then secreted back into the digestive tract (via the gallbladder). During a cleanse, it is necessary to ingest extra fiber to absorb these toxins and remove them by way of elimination. <bio>Brenda Watson is a New York Times Bestselling Author, Naturopathic Doctor and President of RenewLife Formulas.
What comes into your mind when you hear the word tree? For starters, it surely is something tall and towering. You may start thinking of big trunks and a deeply rooted body. Of course, that is the generic perception. That is until the bonsai tree came into the picture.

Bonsai is a word used to describe miniature trees. To qualify as a bonsai, a tree should be a lot smaller than it ordinarily is, even at a mature stage. This means that it has all elements like leaves, flowers, roots, trunk, body and sometimes, even fruit. This Ancient Chinese technique of growing plants started two hundred years ago for medical purposes. However, the times changed and bonsai is now considered as a work of art ready for display... rather than a portable tree ready to be used as medicine.

Some of the common themes in bonsai growing are founded by the Japanese and Chinese Schools of Thought. The Japanese aesthetic pays much attention to the harmony of heaven and earth in one container. As such, they pick plants that mainly consist of flowery bushes and similarly colorful shrubs. Some of their favorite subjects are maple, elm, juniper, flowering cherry, azalea and larch. According to the Japanese, the bonsai is a perfecta attempt in evoking a plant's essential spirits.

As for the Chinese, bonsai is a great way of capturing nature's beauty in contrast. This is an influence of Taoism, a philosophy that became so popular in China hundreds of years ago. Such double-sided metaphors are related to legends on the yin and the yang. More than the art of growing the bonsai itself, the Chinese also pay much attention to the pots they use. There you will see calligraphic designs, dragons and other stylized paintings that spell common passion for this race.

Bonsais are also very delicate to culture. You don't just plant them, leave them under the sun and water them once in a while in order to live. A bonsai gardener will always have to patiently check so many aspects of the plant's surroundings if they want to ensure that it doesn't dry down, rot or simply wither to die. The reason behind this is the plant's weakened health. Due to the restrictions in growth, the plant's immune system suffers a little. As such, it is up to those who care for these plants to prolong their lives so that they could enjoy its beauty longer.

That is the bonsai... colorful, meaningful and delicately beautiful. Experience all these and start your own bonsai garden no. All you have to do is buy materials on the net or a nearby plant store. With a little caution and a lot of care, that bonsai plant of yours will surely be in full bloom! <bio>Owner of http://www.mishobonsai.com , has been practicing bonsai for over 8 years. Found a distinct interest in propagation, especially seeds. Mishobonsai.com sells tree seed and provides bonsai tree informations. </bio>

The term deciduous means "tending to fall off" or "temporary." The word deciduous is used in reference to trees or shrubs that lose their leaves during the winter season. There are several types of trees that belong to the deciduous family. Deciduous trees include the species of oak, maple, aspen, birch and elm.

The deciduous family also contains a number of coniferous genera. In this category the larch and metasquoia are the most common. It is important to note that all of the oak species are not part of the deciduous family. A deciduous tree is known for periods of beautiful color and then periods of barrenness. The period in which a deciduous tree sheds its leaves coincides with winter months or a dry season.

In the field of botany the term deciduous refers to trees, shrubs and plants. The types of trees, shrubs and plants that fall under the term deciduous are those that shed their leaves for part of the year. The process of shedding leaves is known as abscission.

If the deciduous tree is located in a colder climate then the tree will typically lose its leaves during the colder months of the year. While deciduous trees that are located ion warmer climates tend to lose their leaves during the dry season. There are several plants and trees, such as the evergreen, that are considered to be semi-deciduous.

Most of the deciduous plants will flower during the time when they are leafless. When the deciduous plant flowers this increases the effectiveness of reproduction and pollination. The absence of the leaves on the deciduous tree is perfect for the improved wind transmission of the pollen . This is most effective with the transmission of pollen from wind-pollinated plants.

The absence of the leaves also increases the visibility of the flowers to different types of insects that are required for insect pollination in several types of deciduous plants. The flowers of the deciduous plant can become damaged by frost during the cold winter months or in dryer areas the flowers become damaged from water stress.

By losing the leaves during the winter months a deciduous plant can reduce waster loss since most of the water that the plant or tree will come into contact with is ice. There is less trunk and branch damage from ice storms when the deciduous trees are leafless. The loss of leaves to a deciduous tree is not only a necessity in terms of reproduction but also in terms of protection.

A deciduous tree is usually located in a forest with other plant species. The deciduous tree provides shade to plants that require full or partial shade. When a deciduous tree re-grows its leaves the leaves actually form a canopy surrounding the tree and the forest area. Many people become breathless at the sight of a deciduous forest in full bloom or when the deciduous tree is changing color in preparation for winter. A deciduous tree is beautiful to look at during the spring, summer and fall months. <bio>http://www.mishobonsai.com </bio>

It's easy to blame our parents for how we are:

"How can I be successful and happy when my father always told me I wouldn't amount to much?"

"My mother was never a role model for a happy, healthy woman."

"No one ever showed me love when I was a child, so how can you expect me to have good relationships now?"

"I was sexually abused by my father so everything's wrong with my life now."

"No one ever expressed emotions in our family; they still don't, so don't expect me to be demonstrative."

"My brother was always the favourite, so no wonder I'm insecure."

Does any of this sound familiar? May be not those exact words, but do you find yourself justifying who and what you are by what your parents did or didn't do? It's easy, because it allows us not to make any

effort to change, but it's hard because it means we stay where we are -- in our pain and anger.

But stop a minute and think: if you're blaming your parents for how you are, you have to blame their parents for how they are. It's not logical to say they're to blame for how I am and for how they are.

Does it mean that none of you have any independent action? It may be so, that nothing will change, that they are as they are, and that you are as you are, and that if you have children you will visit it all on them.

Does that let them off the hook? Does it mean that you have to forgive them? Not necessarily, but if you want to change things, you need to accept what they did to you and move on. Staying angry with them forever will hurt you at least as much as it hurts them.

How can you move forward? One thing you need to do is recognise that you did and do have choices. Take this example:

"I can't help that I'm a workaholic because my dad always worked long hours."

"I can't help being a workaholic because my dad never worked and I saw what pain that caused my mum."

Two very different fathers, but two identical sons. This suggests that whatever the background we still can make some choices about how we react to childhood events.

But we can also do more than that. We don't have to accept the messages -- either by copying them wholeheartedly or by reacting against them. Think of the childhood messages you got. Here are some hints to get you started -- what did your parents say:

You'll never .....

You'll always .....

Men should/can't ...

Women should/can't ..

When you've worked out a few of the messages, take just one. Think about how you can change the message. Here are some examples:

"You'll never be any good."

List all the things you are good at. Ask friends and supportive loved ones for ideas if you can't think of many yourself. Put them on notes and stick them round the house so you can see them, or write them in a book and read it first thing in the morning or last thing at night.

"Women can't be good at mechanical things."

Do a web search to find women who are. Enrol in a class.

"You'll always be fat. It runs in the family."

Look at the research about how effective exercise and a healthy diet is in maintaining a good shape. Ask your slim friends if any of them have fat parents. Get yourself a personal trainer.

"You'll never amount to much."

Take the Bach flower remedy 'Larch' for confidence. Find a therapist to help you.

I'm not saying it's easy. You have to keep working at it. Take one small part of the messages and focus on that. It may be hard work, but isn't it a better alternative than locking yourself into a future

That's determined by the past. How long have you been an adult? How long where you a child? How many more years have you got to live? Live them as a strong adult not a hurt child. <bio>Jane Thurnell-Read believes we can all make small changes to make our lives better.
The ski resorts of Les Arcs and La Plagne in France is surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges and both ski resorts attract phenomenal amount of skiing enthusiasts on vacation in France and Europe. La Plagne is like a space city, with its own suburban satellites and at least 2.5 million so called 'skier days' and is arguably the single most visited ski resort in the world along with its link to neighboring Les Arcs ski resort. With so many visitors to La Plagne and Les Arcs, it follows that there are many hotels and accommodations to cater to the skiers and tourists alike.

La Plagne, is a 'third generation' French ski resort and it probably influenced other French resorts like Flaine, Avoriaz and Les Arcs to go for brave new world space age architecture abandoning the traditional charming rustic designs of ski resort architecture.

Skiing in La Plagne, you will encounter every conceivable permutation of piste and off piste, from exhilarating descents on the huge sweeping glacier at Bellecote (3,000m or almost 10,000ft), to delightful cruising down quiet, meandering, larch lined avenues to the charming villages of Montchavin-Les Coches, Champagny-en-Vanoise and Montalbert. In between these two extremes is La Plagne's biggest attraction for intermediate skiers anxious to cruise till they drop in the seemingly endless wide open skiing adventure.

Having extended its empire to 10 different ski villages, La Plagne is planning to send a tentacle across the valley between Montchavin and Peisy Vallandry to form what will arguably be the third ski domain in the world.

Les Arcs, whose connection by Eurostar train terminal at Bourg St. Maurice makes it the most accessible high-altitude French resort and has always been at the cutting edge of skiing and snow boarding. It pioneered 'ski evolutif', a technique for fast learning by progressing quickly from very short skis to longer ones. It became the principle home of the Kilometre Lancee in which daredevils on huge 237cm or 8 ft skis, clad in thin aerodynamic plastic suits and 'Darth Vader Star Wars' style visors, speed down a special track at breathtaking speeds of about 240kph or 150mph.

Similar to La Plagne, Les Arcs has acres and acres of good cruising and its off piste opportunities are simply fabulous. The Aiguille Rouge, which dominates the resort has many challenging runs down its front face and is also the starting point for one of the longest skiing descents in the French Alps. The largely black run down to the charming village of Villaroger is over 16km or about 10 miles long. Can you beat that!

With such wonderful skiing opportunities, is it any wonder why La Plagne and Les Arcs ski resorts claim to attract the most holiday vacation skiers not just in France but in the world as well? <bio>Chris Chew is an avid traveler.
Menopause. The word is a scourge to many women. It is the shifting of one stage of life to another -- from being a creator of life to a point where that is no longer possible. There are many changes which take place on the biological level which can lead to alterations in mood.

In addition to common symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, many women develop rapid mood changes, anger, and depression. These mood swings are the result of hormonal changes brought on by menopause. While there is no 'cure' for menopause as it is an entirely natural process, hormone therapy is recommended by some doctors. Even with available treatments to ease this potentially troubling period of time, it is necessary for women to learn to cope with the emotional fluctuations associated with menopause.

When a person is angry or depressed for an extended amount of time, and the menopause can last a number of years, it can lead to negative changes in body chemistry. To gain insight into your anger or depression, it is probably a good idea to get a journal or notebook and keep a running list of things that you believe are causing you to feel this way. By externalising what you are feeling, you can give your emotions a more concrete display and you can examine them.

One way to cope with menopause is to join a support group. Since every woman will one day endure menopause, there are plenty of groups available where women can share their experiences with others like them. Not all women experience significant mood changes, however, many do. It is important to speak to others who may be going through the same trials and tribulations as you are.

In addition, it is a good idea to explore methods of keeping yourself at ease and reducing stress and anxiety. Think about heading to a day spa, getting a massage, floating in a pool, meditation, purchasing a relaxation tape, taking a warm bath, learning breathing exercises, and taking up yoga.

If you have never heard of the Bach remedies, it may be a good idea to check them out. When you take Larch, Wild Rose, Gorse and Gentian together, it may help alleviate some of the symptoms of depression. There are many holistic remedies available that have provided excellent results.

You can also look into aromatherapy and acupuncture, which not only can provide relief from symptoms of menopause -- they can also help you feel better all around. Hypnosis is also an interesting avenue to explore. Through hypnosis you may be able to eliminate some of the behaviors that are troubling you. Hydrotherapy, light therapy, and sound therapy are also treatments that may help you feel better and give you the peace of mind to combat the emotional symptoms of menopause.

If you are depressed for an extended period of time it is suggested that you contact a mental health professional such as a psychologist. Just a few sessions of counselling may help you get in touch with your feelings and realize that they are essentially a reaction to hormonal fluctuations. While it may be difficult to control at all times, encountering your issues up close and personally may give you the strength to overcome them.

Anger and depression are common symptoms of menopause. With help, knowledge, and support you can overcome them. There is no reason that you have to remain feeling angry and depressed for an extended period of time. You owe it to yourself to take control of your situation by seeking the help that you need or implementing coping strategies. Waiting around for things to get better won't change a thing and will probably make your life and the lives of those around you more difficult. <bio>Kathryn Whittaker has an interest in Menopause.
Grab your skis and get out here!

Those seven words were the start of the most epic adventure of my life. They came in the form of a phone call from a remote lodge in Eastern British Columbia.

"Man you will not believe what the last 2 days were like. It hasn't stopped snowing here for 42 hours. Dude it is almost waist deep. We signed up for another 4 days. There is one spot left. Grab your skis and get out here.

"I am in" I hastily declared not quite sure how I was going to get away from work.

When it is waist deep I can always find a reason for getting out of work. I was buzzing. It has been a long time since I have gone skiing in the back country. I quickly threw a couple changes of clothes into my pack, gloves, helmet, goggles, in also. Transferred some money around and I was on my way to the adventure of a lifetime, literally.

I was going to Golden BC to enjoy some great snowcat skiing about 80 north of the small mountain community. Some guys I knew from Calgary were up on a 3 day tour at Chatter Creek and called me after their second day in waist deep powder. The excitement in their voice (and probably a bit of alcohol as well) had me vibrating within seconds of hearing the words "waist deep".

Of course with a lot of snow falling in the past several days the mountain pass between Golden and neighboring Revelstoke was treacherous to say the least. Traffic had been getting through intermittently between closures for avalanche control.

Getting into Golden was a relief since the helicopter flight to the lodge was in just under an hour. I had just enough time to stop at 7-11 for gum and other junk food, get to the airport, sign a waiver and board the chopper.

The 22 minute flight was something else. We skirted up the valley from Golden with the Selkirks on the left and the Rockies on the right. A final quick jump over the Kitchen Range and we were into the Chatter Creek Drainage. I could see the blue roofing of the lodge appear like a sapphire in the green and white of the surrounding terrain.

The first night of the trip was a blur of food, booze and faces. 35 other people with the same crazed look of powder that I had. It was hard to get to sleep the first night but before long I was woke up by my watch. First thing was to look out the window to see how much new; 22cm on top of the 96 cm that fell in the last 4 days.

The morning continued with breakfast at 7:30 followed by a safety briefing about the snowcats and more importantly avalanche safety and the use of transceivers. This was followed by boarding the cats for a 15 minute ride to the East Ridge.

Running almost east to west for 7 km, the East Ridge is 2200 vertical feet of north facing trees and south facing cut blocks.

The snowcat stopped at the top of a run called Bad Boys. The top 1/3 of the run in the alpine and continued down through old growth spruce and larch. Bad Boys certainly looked great. Our group of 12 got out, the cat roared off to the bottom to wait for us. We all got geared up and followed our guide to where we would drop in. The guide said to stay center and stop at the tree line. With that he turned and disappeared into a cloud of white.

I sliced my way past a couple of my buddies and dropped in. The first turn took me by surprise. It was like there was no bottom. By turn three I was able to get a glimpse of where I was and pointed to where I needed to go. With that the most epic 4 days of powder skiing began. <bio>Adventure Wild is a complete guide to http://adventure-wild.com/snowcat-skiing.html and http://adventure-wild.com/helicopter-ski-tours.html in British Columbia Canada.
What are Glyconutritional Supplements, you ask?

A good deal of hype surrounds "glyconutritionals" these days. It is not uncommon to see the words "miracle cure" in connection with them. So let us cut to through the hype and get to the nitty-gritty. Allow me to investigate glyconutritionals, describing in real terms what they are, what their role in the body is, and what part they play in a healthy diet.

Recently, a lot of valid research has been done in the field of glyconutritionals. But to put things into the most simplest terminology, the term 'glyconutritional' or 'glyconutrient' is a scientific name for an individual carbohydrate nutrient. Commercial uses of the term will more commonly refer to particular blends of polysaccharides, dietary fiber compounds and plant extracts.

Polysaccharides are large carbohydrate molecules consisting of a number of monosaccharide monomers such as fucose, lactose and glucose. These glyconutritional formulations were initially discovered by the Research and Development Corporation out of Texas that made some neat discoveries. They have been marketed around the world by associates as having health benefits, and there are a number of other companies now supplying "so-called" or copy-cat glyconutritional products.

So how do you know which one to buy from? Ask them if they are involved with the original advanced glyconutrients. And make sure that they have the eight glyconutrients, and not just one or two.

The eight valuable glyconutrients are:

* Galactose

* Mannose

* Xylose

* Fucose (not fructose)

* Glucose

* N-acetylgalactosamine

* N-acetylglucosamine

* N-acetylneuramic acid

Companies sell formulations of polysaccharides and fiber as glyconutritionals, with varying constituents that have been previously used in health products, including: aloe vera extracts; arabinogalactan fraction of Larch extract; gum arabic and gum acacia; ghatti gum; gum tragacanth; kelp; cordyceps; xylitol; glucosamine; fenugreek seed; oat fiber; and Shiitake and Reishi mushroom.

Medical sciences have noted that soluble fibers, including polysaccharides, are transformed into beneficial short-chain fatty acids after fermentation in the large intestine. Further, there are proven anti-inflammatory benefits with saccharides such as glucosamine and gum acacia, with trials showing beneficial effects for patients suffering from inflammation-related conditions like arthritis and asthma.

The beneficial actions of the arabinogalactans in glyconutritionals have been demonstrated as a prebiotic effect, a reduced incidence of opportunistic pathogens, stimulation of the body's immune system, increased numbers of gut anaerobes and reduced levels of ammonia.

With these benefits, glyconutritional formulations are categorized as an alternative therapy.

In the marketplace, however, there is a myriad of confusing statements. With so many different types of natural supplements flooding the market, reputable journals have recommended that those looking for "healing" or "miracle cures" should take care and seek out reliable nutritional and medical advice. Research and science will start to differentiate different companies and natural supplements. Those seeking the benefits of glyconutrients should seek medical advice.

Ultimately, the ingredients in glyconutritionals have been shown to have incredible health benefits. The manufacturer of the product known by its trademarked name Ambrotose, has been shown to have no ill effects. Individuals are sometimes advised to consult medical advice that can take into account personal health circumstances when considering the use of glyconutrition, but it would be about the same as consulting medical advice before starting to permanently change your diet to include more fresh organic fruits and vegatables. To learn about glyconutrients research, science, or why you need them, visit the site below.

You may wonder "Has anyone tried glyconutrients before?" or "How are the results?"

For a Free glyconutrient consultation, call (888) 401-9141. <bio>To learn more about glyconutrition, visit http://www.ifoundhealth.com </bio>

Few tourists enjoying the romance of Venice, Italy, can resist a ride in a gondola. The gondolier and gondola have become, for millions of tourists, the very symbols of Venice.

1. The Venice gondola is made from nearly 300 pieces of wood.

Not all the same wood either. A genuine Venetian gondola is built with seasoned mahogany, elm, lime, oak, walnut, larch, cherry and pine. There are more than 280 separate pieces of wood used in gondola construction. When finished, most gondolas are 11 metres length and weight about 600 kilos.

2. All Venice gondolas are painted black

It wasn't always so, Once wealthy gondola owners tried to outdo each other with gilded prows, elaborate carvings, brightly coloured paint and ostentatious seats and cushions. It all came a head in 1562 with a city edict which ruled that gondolas must be uniformly black - the colour of the waterproofing pitch used in their construction. The black colour rule persists to this day.

3. One side of a Venice gondola is longer than the other

Take a measuring tape to a gondola and you will find that the left side is about 24 cm longer than the right. The modern twisted gondola design emerged in the 19th century when the skewed construction raised stern and helped improve manoeuvrability. It compensates for the weight of the gondolier and his single oar. The bottom is also flat, so the gondola can sail in just a few centimetres of water.

4. There were once at least 10,000 gondolas in Venice.

In 1600 there were an estimated 10,000 gondolas in daily use in and around the canals of Venice. Nowadays there are only about 500 and their use is limited almost exclusively to the tourist trade. And with an estimated 20 million visitors to Venice each year the gondoliers rarely wait long for a customer.

5. Venice gondolas are only built in "squero"

The "squero" is a special Venetian boatyard. The name probably comes from the Greek "eskarion" (harbour) but some think the name is derived from the "squara", a special tool used by carpenters. There were once hundreds of such boatyards in in Venice. Today there are only five, each turning out a new gondola every three months with a price tag of at least €20,000. At the "squero" of San Trovaso in Dorsoduro you can still watch the craftsmen at work.

6. The metal prow of a Venice gondola always has six teeth

The toothed metal nose on the front of every gondola helps to balance the weight of the gondolier. It always has just six 'teeth' in a decorative double S design. The stylized shape represents the S of the Grand Canal and the six teeth are the six "sestieri" or areas of the city of Venice. The backward facing tooth represents island of Giudecca.

7. Venice gondolas once had cabins

Before being used exclusively for tourism, gondolas often had a removable cabin called a "felse" for use in the winter or at night. It came with a door, sliding windows and curtains. The "felse" offered protection for passengers from bad weather and prying eyes.

8. Venetians build special gondolas for racing

The gondolino is a fast boat similar to a gondola but much more difficult to row. It is used exclusively in the annual Historic Regatta (Regata Storica) race. This annual event is a trial of strength and skill for the city's gondoliers. It begins with a grand procession of historic craft along the Grand Canal course followed by races. The gondolino dates from 1825. It looks like a gondola but is shorter at 10.5 m and it weighs only 160 kilos.

9. Venice gondoliers use a paddle, not a pole

Contrary to popular belief the gondola is never poled; the waters of Venice are too deep for that. The gondoliers' oars are large paddles made out of well seasoned beech. They must have a special taper to work properly and building the oars requires great skill. Specialist carpenters called "remeri" were once dedicated to it..

10. The Venice gondola was first mentioned in 1094

The gondola of Venice is mentioned for the first time in an official document in 1094. in a decree from the doge Vitale Falier in which he allows the citizens in the south of Venice to use a "gondulam".The origin of the name is very uncertain. Some date it back to the Latin "cymbula" ( little boat) or to "cuncula" ( shell). Others claim it is from the Greek "kundy" ( navigate) or "kunto-helas"( paddle boat).<bio>Andrea Delucia is a city travel guide writer for TravelSavvy Venice</bio>

Look out from the main parking lot of the St. Mary Lodge and Resort, located at the East entrance of Glacier National Park in Montana, and behold one of the largest intact ecosystems in the lower 48 states. Glacier National Park encompasses 1.4 million acres (1,600 square miles) of wildlife preserves and offers some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable.

William Howard Taft was U.S. President when the area was officially declared a National Park in 1910, but its history goes back 170 million years before then. Colliding continental plates, massive glacier movement, and natural erosion all joined hands to create this wonderful monument to the forces of nature.

Although tourists began visiting back in the late 1890s, archeological evidence indicates that the land was inhabited by humans as far back as 10,000 years ago. Home to the Blackfoot and Kootenai Native American tribes, there are areas in the Park which are still considered to be sacred grounds.

About The Ecosystem

Glacier National Park offers a simultaneous view into pre-historic times and modern flora and fauna.

Most of the rocks formations are from the Proterozoic age which ranged from 1,600 to 800 million years ago. Although rock formations of that age found in other parts of the world have been radically changed by the Earth's natural aging process, those in Glacier National Park still bear most of their original characteristics. This provides a wealth of information to geologists and some very unique experiences for tourists.

These ancient rock formations are home to fossils including stromatolites, a species of algae that inhabited the warm shallow seas that pre-dates the Rocky Mountains which are part of the Park. The fact that these fossils have survived makes the Glacier National Park a living classroom for scientists studying the evolution of Earth.

Of course, it's the glaciers that give Glacier National Park its name. These glaciers are thought to be only a few thousand years old, making them relatively young compared to the overall timeline of the Park.

Climate change is impacting the Glaciers and causing them to shrink as more snow melts during the warm season than forms in the cold season. But when the Glaciers were active, they filled the valleys with moving currents of ice which sculpted the mountain ranges you see today.

A Sea Of Wildflowers

The glacier movement combined with other natural erosion forces left behind fertile soil. That's why Glacier National Park is inhabited by an array of plants, trees and wildflowers including larch, spruce, fir, western cedar and pine trees, as well as heather, gentian, beargrass, glacier lily, pasque flower, lupine, Indian paintbrush, gaillardia, asters, and other wildflower species.

An Abundance of Wildlife

One of the contributing factors to Glacier National Park's designation as being one of the largest intact ecosystems in the lower 48 States is the fact that there are so many species of wildlife calling the Park home. From the endangered American Bald Eagle to the Western Jumping Mouse, nowhere else in North America brings together so many wildlife species.

Glacier National Park's biggest wildlife attractions include Lynx, Mountain Lion, Black and Grizzly Bear, Bison and Wolves representing but a few of the 272 species of birds and 63 mammal species found there.

Lakes of Glacier National Park

Framed by the Park's legendary mountain peaks, Glacier National Park is home to over 700 lakes including 650 named lakes. One of the largest lakes of Glacier National park is St. Mary Lake, home to St. Mary Lodge and Resort. The largest glacier-formed lake is McDonald Lake, situated 3,153 feet above sea level on the Park's Western portion and West of the Continental Divide. The lake is 10 miles long with depths ranging to 427 feet. Its shimmering water led to it being called "Sacred Dancing Lake" by the Native American Kootenai tribe.

Over 500 creeks and streams are also located in Glacier National Park as well as plenty of water falls. All in all, Glacier National Park is covered by 2,000 acres of water.

With this abundance of water, it makes sense that Glacier National Park is also home to a great many species of fish as well. The most abundant species include cutthroat trout, ling, northern pike, whitefish, kokanee salmon, grayling, rainbow trout, lake trout and the protected bull trout.

You Can See It All In One Place

Go ahead. Plan your next vacation to Glacier National Park, one of the largest intact ecosystems in the lower 48 states. You'll be glad you did!<bio>http://www.stmarylodgeandresort.com</bio>

Since the year eight hundred ten the city of Venice, Italy has been standing strong and mighty with its ever present clock tower, and St. Marks square. What few people know however is that 'The city of Venice rests on the hearts of Larch.' In the ninth century the name 'Pine' had yet to be coined, so today if you translate that saying, you get, 'The city of Venice rests on the hearts of Pine.' Today heart Pine is a very valuable building commodity, so imagine that the entire city of Venice rests on hundreds of thousands of antique, 'hearts of pine,' trunk, bark and all.

Pine trees throughout the world, have, since the beginning of time, been a key factor in the advancement of man kind. When cave men discovered fire, it was such a hot commodity that in order to keep their precious new discovery burning throughout the night, they would collect pine cones from the forests of towering pine trees and place them on the smoldering embers. The resin would act with the moisture of the pine cones and burn for hours. The next morning the Neanderthals were able to stoke the fire, and billows of smoke would come wisping out and as they added twigs of slag pine, and small, dry, kindling, branches the flames would begin to pour forth. The men would catch fish with triton's made from twisted and carved pine tree branches, and kill boar, and small game with spears caved from the small, strait, trunks of young pine trees. As the women would make loin cloths from the skins of large animals and cook food over flames, the men were experimenting with building. It is thought by some that the caveman evolved into the Neanderthal when he learned how to build. The evolving men would drive posts into the ground and strap pine tree limbs to the top using the sinews of animals, and resin from the pine tree was used to help secure pine tree needles to the roof for shelter.

Pine trees are evergreen, coniferous, (conebearing) trees that are found in all parts of the world (six of seven continents). There are approximately one hundred twenty species of pine trees. There are short pine trees, tall pine trees, wide pine trees, skinny pine trees and colored Pine trees. Pine trees have green to bluish grey leaves in the form of needles that are arranged in bundles of two to five or six to eight, depending on species. The cones of pine trees range in size from " to 12 inches. The Longleaf pine, Pinus paulustris, bears one of the largest cones, up to 10 inches and the Mugo pine, Pinus mugo, has one of the smallest cones at " to 2". Pine trees can tower to 130 feet high, such as the Longleaf pine, or grow to a shrubby 8 feet high, such as Mugo pines.

Pine trees are so adaptable that they are known to naturally cross pollinate between species to evolve into an improved species. This is the case with the Sonderegger Pine, Pinus palastris x Pinus teada, of the Southeast. A natural hybrid cross between Longleaf Pine and Loblolly pine that takes on the best qualities of both species: longer pine needles and fatter pine cones with faster consistent growth, resulting in a mature tree in an unbelievably short amount of time.

Pine trees are the leading source for paper products and building materials in the world. Loblolly pine, Pinus teada, is one of the leading timber species in the United States, growing from New Jersey to Florida to Texas. The timbers of this species are very compact and make them a great choice for pine tree flooring.

In the 19th century, pine tree growers noticed that the sap from pine trees could be collected and boiled down with several bi-products that could be equally marketed, making the "Tree Sap Boom" so successful. Resin oil could be taken for cough, and scratchy throat, and some soaps, and glues were also processed, with turpentine as the primary bi-product. Pine trees also began to be harvested around this time on a commercial level devastating forests to make paper, and build houses.

Pine trees are also known throughout the outdoor world as a survival plant. The cambium, or sub-bark, is moist and almost sweet, but rich in vitamins A and C. In Sweden in the winter time the Swedes often make 'strunt' tea from the needles and tiny baby pine cones of the Pinus nigra - European Black Pine tree or Austrian Pine tree.

Pine tree cultivars recommended to plant and grow in the United States, whether, you grow them as a specimen tree, or plant entire Pine tree plantations are as follows: Loblolly Pine, Pinus taeda; Longleaf Pine, Pinus palustris; Mugo Pine, Pinus mugo 'Compacta'; Slash Pine, Pinus elliottii; Sonderegger Pine, Pinus x 'Sondereggeri'; and White Pine, Pinus strobus.

"Strange that so few come to the woods to see how the pine tree lives and grows and spires, lifting its evergreen arms to the light ..... to see its perfect success." -- Henry David Thoreau <bio>Patrick A. Malcolm, owner of TyTy Nursery, has an M.S. degree in Biochemistry and has cultivated pine trees for over three decades. http://www.tytyga.com </bio>
