The best thing the Warriors did was trade Derek Fisher away in a salary dump, but got nothing but spare parts and bench players in return. It was a necessary move, however, as the Warriors needed to cut costs and create flexibility in future years.

The only other player move of note was drafting another center in the first round, and it seems that the Warriors have been searching for a quality pivot since the days of Joe Barry Carroll. The Warriors tabbed Patrick O'Bryant from Bradley. There are many doubts surrounding O'Bryant, and most don't think he'll be able to contribute early because of Nelson's for rookies and the fact that O'Bryant is seen as a "project," which is a dreaded word for centers. It's safe to say that O'Bryant won't be moving Golden State Warriors tickets by himself this season.

Strong Suit

The Warriors aren't known for doing any one thing better than anyone else, but they are young, athletic and extremely talented. If Nelson can get perennial head case/locker room problem/training room regular Baron Davis to play to his unlimited potential, he'll be a miracle worker.

If that happens, however, Davis will make the other young potential stars even better, as Jason Richardson and Ike Diogu are either already somewhat known by NBA fans or about to hit the headlines. Mike Dunleavy and even Troy Murphy need open looks, as they can't create their own shots, but if they get them, the Warriors could be deadly.

Outlook

The Warriors appear to be what they are every season - young talented, and dripping with the dreaded "p" word - potential. If they can put it all together, if Nelson can keep everyone happy, if Baron Davis can stay healthy and toe the company line, the Warriors could indeed be a surprise. That's a lot of "ifs," however, and probably too many to be answered in one season. Plus size clothing is now so much more available that it was back when we were little.

There was a time when you could maybe catalogue order from Lane Bryant or Newport News but you couldn't walk into a nice shop and find a gorgeously styled outfit that was cut for your body type. Now you can. There are chain stores galore -- Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug Plus, Catherine's, Chico's. It is so much more comfortable for a B-FAB (Beautiful Fat Ass Babe) to go to a store where there is an abundance of things that will fit her. It's wonderful to go into a store filled with women who look like she does instead of being the one lone fat girl hoping to find something in the Junior department at Macy's.

We do, however, hold many plus size fashion manufactures criminally liable for some of the fabrics they try to foist on us. We'd like to be crystal clear here. Double-knit polyester doesn't look good on anyone not even a S-FAB (Skinny Fat Ass Babe). There are size 8's out there whose cellulite would defy the doubleknits they try to force us B-FABs into. Is this a conspiracy? Have the hard-body young-ones decided to flush the adipose carriers out in the open with this flammable synthetic we call "double-knit turquoise pants". Don't do this to yourself. There is no reason to look or feel that way. In summer, for god's sake, try linen. It's loose, light, cool and shows it's own wrinkles instead of your dimples. Linen wrinkles in a way that works (unless you're on Daytime TV wearing the horrifying outfit with the linen jacket that Janette chose when we taped the Tyra Banks show... sometimes we all make mistakes. If you happen to have a stomach that is kind of like a big jiggly bowling ball beneath your belt, it might not be the best choice to wear knit pants and a stretchy little t-shirt with a bare mid-riff. Since Janette won't wear a bathing suit or form fitting clothes she has been questioned about whether or not she does, in truth, embrace her BFA (Big Fat Ass). If that's what you think you may be missing the point of embracing your big fat ass. Embracing your BFA doesn't mean that you convince yourself that you look like Jessica Simpson. It means that you recognize that there is a bias in this country that only calls thin beautiful. It means you find the beauty and the gifts in who you are as you are. Embracing your ass when it comes to fashion means that instead of wearing the fashions that look best on Paris Hilton that we choose things that are the most comfortable and flattering for us. It means choosing outfits that boost our confidence and remind us that we are actually NOT operating with a handicap. We can be as hot as anyone else. This was a project on a 4-lane road with 1/2 of the two lanes on my side paved... and the other 1/2 getting prepared for paving to continue. The problem is that the 1/2 that was paved was the left lane and this caused a height difference and;ridgeandquot; of approximately 1 - 2 inches of asphalt between the two lanes (of course I was in the right andquot;low-sideandquot; lane).

This wouldn't have been a problem if I could have stayed in the lane I was in... but once into the paving area all cars had to merge from the right to the left lane. Speeds on this road were about 40 miles per hour and on a normal motorcycle this would have been scary enough! On a chopper (let alone a wide rear tire) it was one of the scariest things I have had to do. In the moment before the transition I tried to slow down as much as I could in the andquot;bumper to bumperandquot; , gripped the firmly, and then once there was an opening in the traffic to move over I tried to make the andquot;cutandquot; at as sharp of an angle as was possible.

Let me just say that andquot;I made itandquot; but it was really an for a few seconds. It made me remember why teach you that andquot;if your tire goes off the road... stay off the road and slow way down... and then sharply turn back on when there is a safe margin to do soandquot; and that is in a 4-!

I think that was the closest I have come to andquot;going downandquot; on a bike in over 20 years... so, I am writing this down so I don't forget. When you have to cross over and onto a ridge that is running parallel to your path of travel:

Slow down as much as possible (I didn't do this enough). Get a large safety margin between other traffic (Wait for a large opening). Get a firm grip on the handlebars. Try to cross-over the ridge at a strong angle (don't try to ease up on the ridge). I didn't do any of these things very well and it almost ended in a crash. For me, my biggest mistake was #1... so next time I am faced with this I will be sure to slow down much more and get a better angle on the ridge.

SIGNALING - GET INTO GOOD HABITS

It is not always a legal requirement to signal when driving. In some states, you are only required to signal if your change in movement is likely to affect drivers around you. For example, when driving down a deserted freeway at 4.00 am with no other drivers for miles, it may not be necessary for you to signal a turn. Having said that, it is wise to "always" signal turns and lane changes. From a defensive driving standpoint, if you signal on every occasion, no matter what the circumstances, you create a habit which kicks in on autopilot, helping to keep you safe and accident-free.

The important point about signaling is to ensure you are sending clear information. Take care to signal at just the right moment. Signaling too soon or too late causes other drivers confusion about your intentions. For example, can interpret your signal to mean you want to turn later or sooner than you really intend.

Some drivers deliberately do not use turn signals, believing that by forecasting a lane change other drivers will counter their move by closing their "" in the lane. Although this does happen, it only occurs in the minority of cases. Most drivers WILL make a space for you if they know you want to .

DEFENSIVE DRIVING LANE CHANGE TECHNIQUES

Learn and developing these defensive driving skills for correctly changing lanes will go a long way towards ensuring you remain safe and accident-free on the roads.

Scan the road ahead and plan in advance. Before changing lanes, scanning the road ahead and checking what other drivers are doing is vitally important. Things to watch out for include pedestrians about to step on to the road, other vehicles reducing speed, and drivers about to merge across your lane. Keeping an eye on the brake lights of vehicles in front of you is also a good indicator of trouble ahead. Cars beginning to slow down will usually hit their brakes giving a vital warning to alert drivers behind.

Monitor the rear vision mirror. The rearview mirror gives a much wider view than the one provided by your side mirrors. The rearview mirror should be checked with a quick glance, simultaneously keeping your main focus on the road ahead. Things to watch out for when glancing in your rearview mirror include traffic coming up faster than you are driving. Also keep your eyes peeled for vehicles signaling to change lanes behind you who might be increasing speed to pass your vehicle.

Always signal your intentions. Communicating with other drivers is the most important part of defensive driving. Signaling is done to communicate to other drivers what you are about to do. By signaling to other drivers, you give them the chance to slow down and allow your lane change to be made safely. For example, drivers in front of you who is planning a maneuver may stay put if they see your signal. It always wise to remember that people often make unexpected moves. Don't take anything for granted and get into the habit of anticipating the worst!

Don't forget your blind spot. Turn your head and take a quick glance over your shoulder to ensure there is no other driver in the lane beside you. If you do see a vehicle there, stay in your own lane until the vehicle has gone past.

Recheck ahead=85.(again) before changing lanes. Immediately before turning the steering wheel to navigate your lane change, check once again to make no driver is slowing down or straying into your path. Move gradually into your lane change with only a slight adjustment of the steering wheel. If it is not possible to change lanes when you check the blind spot, cancel the maneuver and prepare to begin all over again.

Don't change lanes at intersections. Make sure you plan your lane changes either before and after intersections where side roads, streets or crossroads meet the road you are using.

You've bowled enough to know that it's a serious sport. Closing your eyes, holding your breath and hoping for the best as you hurl a house ball towards the waiting pins is not your best choice...and you know it.



But just how does that "pro" in the next lane over make his do those awesome tricks?



His ball screams from one side of the lane to the other, only to come out of nowhere, right into that sweet spot and "STRIKE!" again and again.



The answer is simple. By taking advantage of the ball's , he gains incredible control over how his down the lane.

How does the center of ?

Out of all the factors that can affect how a bowling ball moves down the lane, the center of gravity is the one that can make the biggest difference to the beginning bowler. Look at the balls in the pro shop. You will notice a small, off-color dot. This mark denotes the center of gravity on that ball. Just beneath this spot are a couple of ounces of extra weight, which allow the ball to roll straight when the have been drilled. The ball would the lane without this extra weight.

Clever bowlers realized that by drilling the holes slightly off of the center of gravity, the ball would be heavier on one side, shifting the center of gravity to that side. The ball would react differently when thrown, hooking to one side or the other, ensuring better control of the ball and hitting more pins, depending on the placement of the grip holes. Amazing!

If you're doing the same speed as the traffic behind you, they can't catch you unless they're speeding and or your slowing down. If you think you cannot accelerate to their speed, ease off the gas pedal and let the vehicles go by, then quickly pick up speed again to stay ahead of the traffic coming up from the lane you want to merge into, if it is clear ahead of you.

When necessary, stop if you have to let all traffic go by and merge in only after the lane you want to merge into is clear. The vehicle traffic in the lane you want to merge into should not have to brake to let you in. Sometimes you will find a courteous driver easing back on the gas pedal to let you in. Quickly accelerate and move in, only if safe and clear ahead of your vehicle.
