Keyword density is the ratio of your keywords to the other text on your webpage. Keyword density is one of the things that search engines look for when evaluating a website. If you get your keyword density just right, then it is a big help in your search engine optimization.

Suppose you have 400 words in the text portion of your website, and one of your keywords is repeated 12 times. Then that particular keyword has a density of 3%. Keyword density is important because it shows that a particular document is really concerned with that word.

Keyword density can also be broken down for the sections of your website. You should check the keyword density of your title tag, description tag, body text, headers and link text

There are various tools to help you to find out the keyword density of the important sections of your web page. A free keyword density tool can be found at <a href="http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/keyword-density/" >http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/keyword-density/ . There are also keyword density tools packaged in search engine optimization software such as Web Position gold and SEO Studio

If you want to get your keyword density just right, the first thing to do is to write your page naturally, for human beings and not with the search engine in mind. Good search engine optimization starts with such natural copy. If you are well focused you will probably mention your keyword in the beginning and probably repeat it a few times in the body and will probably use it when you rap up. Your keyword density should be fine. Also if you put your keyword in your main title, and in a subheading, then that will help your readers while also pleasing the search engines.

The most important tip I can give you for getting the right keyword density is to keep it natural. You can use the keyword density tools to check your site but if you get in the habit of writing well-focused pages you will not have to add any keywords or "stuff" your text with additional keywords.

In any case, by all means go ahead and check to see how you are doing. After you have written you page, check the densities in the total document and in the various parts. A density of 2-5% in your text is considered good however when you also take into account your meta tags, then the density may rise to as much as 15%. Take a look at the competitors and see what they are doing. Also read your pages aloud, if your keywords sound like you have stuck them in unnecessarily then you have probably gone over the acceptable keyword density for the text portion of your document.

It will take some trial and error, but once you get it right, proper keyword density can be an important contributor to enhanced search engine rankings for your website <bio>Donald Nelson is a search engine optimization specialist and website content provider.
Keyword density is an important factor in search engine optimization (SEO). Keywords, as the name indicates, are the key factors in a web page, while searching. The webpage will be displayed in response to the search about the particular keyword. However, it won't be an easy job for the search engines to list the results, as millions of web pages, with the respective keyword, are indexed in the internet database. The viewers will require the most comprehensive search, and hence, search engines have formulated certain criteria to rate the quality of the web pages. And, keyword density is one of the significant parameters of the search engine algorithms in listing the webpage in the search engine result pages.

Keyword density is the relative frequency for the appearance of the keywords to the total amount of words in the text. The web page will be oriented on the keyword and obviously, the keyword has to be repeated several times. The number of repetition of the keywords will be increased along with the increase in the word limit. Since the word limit of the web pages differ, it will be difficult to suggest an optimum number of repetitions for keywords. And, keyword density has thus formulated as an adequate parameter to represent the number of repetitions of the keyword corresponding to the word count of the whole text.

As for everything, optimum limit exists for keyword density also. It is certain that search engines as well as viewers are bothered about the quality of the content in the web pages. As a rule, it is reviewed that a lower amount of keyword density will reduce the focus of the webpage on the keyword, and increased number of keywords are feared to affect the readability of the subject. The keyword density will also account the phrase keywords.

Keyword density of a webpage becomes crucial, when the webpage developer tries to optimize it according to the preferences of the search engine. Everybody is in the urge to place their webpage in the top ranking and hence they have to adopt the search engine principles, to maintain their position. The optimum keyword density is important in SEO since the search engines will not entertain both the lower levels as well as higher levels of keyword density. The lower keyword density pages will lose their importance in the listing. But, overstuffing of the keyword is a serious offense for search engines and considers it as an act to deceive of them with keyword stuffing. Chances exists that search engines may run spam on higher key word density web pages and ultimately ban it.

Hence, an optimum keyword density is always advised as a part of SEO techniques. Even though the exact values of the search engine algorithms are not clear, 5-7% is approximated as the optimum limit of keyword density. For strict maintenance of the keyword density in the particular ratio, keyword density analyzers are available in the internet. Adopt any such tool, maintain the optimum keyword density and ensure a better position in the search engine results. <bio>Mike Francis' page : http://www.pegasusdirectory.com is a free web directory, that helps webmasters increace their traffic and get known on the internet.
Keyword density is an indicator of the number of times the selected keyword appears in the web page.

But mind you, keywords shouldn't be over used, but should be just sufficient enough to appear at important places.

Follow these tips for some great success:

If you repeat your keywords with every other word on every line, then your site will probably be rejected as an artificial site or spam site.

Keyword density is always expressed as a percentage of the total word content on a given web page.

Suppose you have 100 words on your webpage (not including HMTL code used for writing the web page), and you use a certain keyword for five times in the content. The keyword density on that page is got by simply dividing the total number of keywords, by the total number of words that appear on your web page. So here it is 5 divided by 100 = .05. Because keyword density is a percentage of the total word count on the page, multiply the above by 100, that is 0.05 x 100 = 5%

The accepted standard for a keyword density is between 3% and 5%, to get recognized by the search engines and you should never exceed it.

Remember, that this rule applies to every page on your site. It also applies to not just to one keyword but also a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service. The keyword density should always be between 3% and 5%.

Simple steps to check the density:

=95 Copy and paste the content from an individual web page into a word-processing software program like Word or Word Perfect.

=95 Go to the `Edit' menu and click `Select All'. Now go to the `Tools' menu and select `Word Count'. Write down the total number of words in the page.

=95 Now select the `Find' function on the `Edit' menu. Go to the `Replace' tab and type in the keyword you want to find. `Replace' that word with the same word, so you don't change the text.

=95 When you complete the replace function, the system will provide a count of the words you replaced. That gives the number of times you have used the keyword in that page.

=95 Using the total word count for the page and the total number of keywords you can now calculate the keyword density. <bio>Claim Your Free Advertising Ebooks Here: http://www.460freeadvertisingsecrets.com Find out how you can build a large list very fast: http://www.7dollarsecrets.com/?=geri_mason@ntlworld.com </bio>

If you are a webmaster, the first and foremost thing that comes to your mind is getting ranked in google for your all important keywords. Though traffic comes from other search engines too, but as everyone knows, google is the King as it gets the most traffic. Let me discuss on this topic today.

Some people give more importance to content while some on links. I think for getting a decent google rank, a proper combination of both is required in addition to on-page optimization. The first thing you should do is to make sure your on-page optimization is perfect. For this you will have to make sure your title, headings, meta tags, and keyword density is right.

The title is very important for google and you must include your main keyword(s) in the title. After that you have to make sure that your meta tags for description and keywords is perfect and all important keywords are included in your keyword tag. After that, the first paragraph in your content must contain your important keywords but ofcourse written in a user friendly way and must make some sense. Opinions are divided on keyword density, some seo's try to have more keyword density while others say that excessive use of keywords may be harmful as google is very strict. I too personally believe that its better to be safe than sorry, and you must be very careful here to ensure that all important keywords are there and at the same time they are not used excessively. A high keyword density may work well in msn and yahoo but may not work in case of google. My experience says having a keyword density of 5-10% works best.

Hope you people liked reading this, do share what you think about this. I will discuss about backlinks in my future blogs. <bio>Deepak Khanna - Seo expert http://www.services-india.com </bio>

Not content with your site's page rank? Of course you want to be on the first twenty search results when somebody typed in the keyword you are targeting. However, you are apparently getting nowhere. Perhaps it's time to do something about it.

--- Keyword Density Misconceptions

One of the first things you should check is your page's keyword density. Check your articles' content. They say, to increase the traffic in your site, you need to maintain a keyword density of 2% - 12% in your articles. The higher the percentage, the better are your chances to be on top.

Since you think this is the best that you can do to increase the traffic in your site, you will keep in mind to maintain such a percentage. Hence, in writing your articles, you will aim to reach a certain percentage that you have set. This would not be a problem as long as it is well-written and organized. However it is more than likely that your articles will not make sense because of such great keyword density.

--- Keyword Spamming

After packing your pages with keywords, you may not still be able to attain your page rank goals. Your articles may be keyword-packed but the search engines may just lump you up with the keyword spammers. This will not do at all.

The key here is to use other words related to your keyword. How will you do it then? Perhaps the dictionary will help you on this. Writing an article can be exhaustive, though, and it will be even more exhausting if you need to seek related words. There may be times when you run out of words and all you can do is to keep on repeating your keyword/s.

--- The Wordtracker Solution

Should you want your site to be top ranking in search results try other means aside from maintaining a certain percentage in word density. Analyze your articles keyword content and variation using a wordtracker.

In case you don't know, wordtracker is a tool that you can use to search for other words related to your keyword or keywords. Just click on the word universe and all the words related to your keyword or keywords will appear. Thus, you will not keep on repeating the same word or set of words over and over again until you finish your article.

Through the wordtracker, your article will appear very well-written and informative without much difficulty on your part. You can now write as many articles as you want, each packed with relevant keywords that would boost your site ranking, without sacrificing the quality of the information you are conveying to your target market or readers. In short, your pages are keyword-rich even while they makes sense to your target readers.

You may wonder how you can be on top of the search engine results pages if your keyword is not mentioned in your article a lot of times. The fact is, search engines can now group keywords and keyword variations. As long as you have a lot of your keyword variants in the article, that article will still be considered keyword dense and thus relevant. This can lead to increased page rank.

There is a bonus, too, to using word tracker. Once your target consumers reach your site, they will find your content and articles informative and easy to read since it is not filled with a recurring keyword or keyword phrases. Your readers will then find your articles worth reading because you don't sound so redundant, and they may be induced to bookmark your page, refer you to others or better yet, buy your products or avail of your services. <bio>David Bain is the author of the free report Top 10 Search Engine Optimization Mistakes.
Keywords... always keywords! It's amazing how much of a headache they can be. You spend hours and hours researching, planning, making lists, and calculating keyword density, for what? To be successful online, to reach those high SERPs all webmasters and online entrepreneurs dream about: to be number one.

You are ready to pay the price; you are ready to choose a company that promises you top ten results guaranteed. Guess what? There are no warranties; there is no keyword secret formula. You want to be number one? That's hard to achieve, but not impossible. You can do it on your own. You'll need to learn a lot, to work day and night, to invest your time in this effort. But you will succeed.

So here you go: choose your keywords wisely. Use them even wiser.

To use keywords means to introduce them into the content of your web pages in a natural manner: not too many, not too few...

Is there a keyword density secret formula? Nope.

There are, however, some guidelines.

No keywords = no placement in the SERPs (search engine result pages). No placement in the SERPs = no traffic. No traffic = no revenue. No revenue = you don't have a business. So invest time and effort in choosing and using keywords.

It is important that your keywords appear in the META tags (page title, meta title, meta description, meta keywords) and the content of the page. However, too many keywords could get your site penalized for spamming. Too few... bring no results.

Each search engine places different importance on keyword density. Google requires a maximum of 3%, Yahoo! needs a 5-6%. Is it safe to go beyond Google's guidelines? Not really. Then what? Place importance on the keyword modifications: bold, italic, type size, underline, highlight, hyperlink. Take care where on page you place the main keywords: the heading, at the beginning of your first paragraph, at the end of the last sentence of your text, in subheadings, in hyperlinks and so on. You do this in a natural, readable manner and you cannot fail.

So don't target too many keywords or keywords phrases: one or two will do. You could even target three if you have a lot of content on one page, but not more. Don't optimize your page for fast results, but for lasting results. Pay attention: if you want to be competitive, focus on one keyword per page and keep its page density to the minimum.

You have a public relations website. Then "public relations" is your keyword phrase. Start optimizing for it. Create sub pages to support the home page optimize those for keyword variations and some related low competitive keywords. Keep your content simple, relevant, useful...and don't stuff it with keywords. That's all you need to know about keyword density.

Not convinced? How about this: Google will change its algorithms soon. Why don't you run a keyword density checker on your website and have a chat with your SEO team or expert? You wouldn't like Google to ban you for keyword stuffing, would you? <bio>Scott Lindsay is a web developer and entrepreneur.
One of the main keys to search engine optimization is keyword density. This refers to the number of searchable keywords and keyword phrases that you are on your web pages. Keywords are vital to achieving a high page ranking. If there aren't any keywords on your pages to find for the search engines to index, there is literally nothing to find in the search engine results pages (also known as SERPs).

One of the most common mistakes that new entrepreneurs make when they are first starting a small start up ecommerce site is to only submit keywords to the search engines. They either forget or just don't realize that those keywords also have to be placed somewhere in the text of the site or the search engines just won't have anything to "hook" onto when someone uses one of your keywords to do a search. So do make sure that whatever you do the same keywords you are using out of context to promote your site are also used in-content inside your site.

You also need determine how many keywords or keyword phrases should appear on your web site. The number of keywords appear on the page, makes a difference to all of the search engine algorithms. Of course if you choose very general or highly competitive keywords and keyword phrases you just might end up with a lot of untargeted traffic. The keywords and keyword phrases that have the most density on your site should be the ones that improve your search engine optimization in terms of bringing you customers who intend to buy.

Keywords are, perhaps, the most important part of web content, but making sure they are properly implemented is crucial to the ranking of your site. The Texas web designers will do this for you, but it is still a good idea to acquire an understanding of how this works and why it matters.

The keywords used to send others to your site are called search terms. These terms are typed into the search box of a search engine and results related directly to these terms are then displayed. These keywords are a vital part of where you are ranked in the list of results, and the placement of them in the content of your site can literally mean the difference between being ranked fourth or 100th. That is why it is important to make sure the proper keywords are used in each page of your site. While the Texas web designers will do this for you, you should know what they are and at the very least understand the role they play in how people find your site.

Keywords are the function of the search engine and without them, the search engine would have nothing to find. The Texas web designers will devise content that is specifically written for your site, but that contains the proper number and density of keywords. This means each keyword will not be overly used, or used in a way that causes the content to read illogically. This would matter to both the search engine, as it looks for logical content when ranking sites, and the people who find your site, since they want to clearly understand what you have to offer. That is why keyword density is important.

The most important keywords are what lead potential customers to your site, so they should be chosen very carefully. The Texas web designers will write your content and can advise you on keyword usage. That is why the keywords should be as relevant to your site's content as possible, and should be used in the content just as they would appear in a search.

Keyword placement is an important factor in how the search engines find them and rank your site. While this importance may vary with different search engines, the literal placement of the keywords can play an important role in how your site appears to the search engines and how it is ranked.

Keyword density is the second important consideration, and can make a big difference in how the search engines view the content. Since many search engines use algorithms for ranking sites, the density, or number of times each keyword appears, will help determine how the overall site is ranked in the search results. Once you submit the information you would like to appear on your site, the Texas web designers will write the content with the keywords implemented in the correct places and with the right density.

The choice of which keywords to target on a page is often of vital consideration, especially where highly competitive keywords are concerned. If your site is advertising a business that is similar to many others found on the Internet, you may run into the use of keywords that appear on many other sites. That is why your content should be very fresh and unique. The Texas web designers will insure this is the case.<bio>This article is brought to you courtesy of Jordan FeRoss who is one of the Texas Web Designers Specializing in SEO Web Design</bio>

I talk a lot about articles and how they can drive traffic to your list building page. This is a very important idea. Driving traffic to your squeeze page is the most important thing you can do. Without traffic... NO subscribers. So, let's talk a bit more about using articles to send traffic to your list building page. How can you make articles andquot;search engine friendlyandquot;? Getting your page to the top of the search engine results pages increased your list building power exponentially.

First, get a list of keywords together and keyword phrases. Got to Overture, use their search tool and check to see if there were many searches on your keywords for the previous month. Use any that have a search rate of 500 or more, but the higher, the better.

For instance, if you search the term andquot;list building, andquot; at Overture, you might get results like, andquot;email list building, and opt-in list building.andquot; It may be hard to compete with some of the highest-ranked keywords, so you may want to concentrate on keywords that are less searched because there is less competition.

So, let's say you choose andquot;opt-in mailing list,andquot; and want to use so that you can rank for both list building and andquot;opt in mailing list.andquot; And let's say you're promoting an ebook about list building. OK, then, your title might say: andquot;List Building Magicandquot; or andquot;Opt-In Mailing List Secrets.andquot;

In the body of your article, you'll tell people how to build their lists by reading this free ebook. Right? Use andquot;opt-in list buildingandquot; and maybe andquot;free ebookandquot; as many times as you can, without what's called andquot;keyword stuffing.andquot; You want to keep the flow of your article natural and you want to use the keywords early and often, especially in the title. Just be sure the article flows when you've finished it.

Then, in your resource box, you'll use your keyword phrases again, like this: Joe Smith is an affiliate manager and a list building ninja. Let him show you how to build a great opt-in mailing list at his website http://listbuildingmagic.com.

How do you know if the density is too high or too low? The guideline for the entire article, including the title and resource box is 2 to 5%. But how can you tell?

You can find some keyword density analyzers online, where you can input text and they immediately tell you how high your density is. It's simple! But if you want to count the number of keywords you used and divide by your toal word count, you'll come up with the density, too.

If you find your density is too low, add keywords where you can without making the article sound funny. Or, edit out some of the text. If you find the density is too high, find ways to say andquot;opt-in list buildingandquot; in a different form, like plain andquot;list building.andquot; It will be hard to find synonyms for that phrase, but you get my meaning. If your density is too high, get rid of some keywords or write more text.

When you have your keyword density between 2 and 5%, you're set. Check your spelling and upload your article to a directory. It will soon start driving traffic to your squeeze page and you'll be list building in no time. <bio>Tellman Knudson is the CEO of OvercomeEverything, Inc. and a master at list building.
A successful SEO process comprises of multiple steps and one of the important steps is analyzing competition. Competition plays the all important role in defining the growth of your business. If you undermine competition, you'll be out of the market in no time. Hence you need to not only identify your competition but also see and analyze how they have positioned their website to sell their services or products.

There is no perfect or specific time for analyzing your competition. Whether you are at the bottom of the ladder or at the top, competition is always going to be there. The only thing that will change is the face of the competition, the tactics and the technology. Competition analysis will help you to find the way to the top of the table or in terms of page ranking.

This article covers the various on page factors like Meta tags, keyword density, etc. that will affect your standing in the face of competition and determine your fate in a SEO environment.

There are basically three key on page factors you need to consider for competition analysis and they are:

1. Meta tags and titles 2. Keyword density 3. Special formats

Meta Tags and titles

In the recent past, the value/usage of Meta tags has gone down but it is still important to add them on your site. More and more weight age is being given to titles as they make an SEO campaign effective.

When you analyze Meta tags and titles, you are basically trying to find a way to enhancing the performance or effectiveness of a keyword to attain optimum keyword density. If you check a KDA tool then it will tell you what percentage of your competitors tags contain the targeted/primary keywords. Some of the advanced KDA tools display the average of these percentages.

Keyword Density

Keyword density is one of the key driving factors for effective SEO. There has been a debate going on for some time now to decide what the optimal keyword density is. Many experts feel that it is unimportant but the truth is that most search engines look for the various on page factors and to make SEO possible or effective a certain percentage of your online content needs to have the targeted/primary keywords. The existence of a certain percentage of key phrases will indicate to various search engines that your web site is relevant based on a given phrase.

But on the other hand when we talk about keyword density, it doesn't mean that your content will be crammed with keywords. You can always use an advanced KDA tool to help you find the optimum level of density for your business or industry. Once you get the keyword phrase, you can use it in the title and in percentages that vary from 1% to 3% depending on the requirement.

Special Formats

Special formats include different elements used within the content format like colors, highlighting, anchor text etc. The special format helps in making a particular part of the content stand out especially when a search engine is trying to spider your site.

Positioning is important for special formats as you need to position your keyword in the right places within the content on a particular page. You will also have to position the keyword and the entire content with respect to the page code.

A special format helps in positioning specific content and displays them as important with respect to the rest of the content. If you are able to use special formats well then it will certainly help you to improve your website rankings.

The bottom line is that competition will always exist whether you remain in the industry or whether you change your industry and the best way to fight it by analyzing it and getting ahead of it and always keep one step ahead! <bio>Seomul Davis is search engine optimization specialist for SEO 1 Services links http://www.seo-1-marketing-services.com http://www.seo-1-marketing-services.com/company.htm http://www.seo-services-expert.com </bio>

Because keywords help determine the ranking of your website, and therefore how visible your pages are to Internet traffic, it is important to use keywords properly in the creation of your site.

In today's world of Internet lingo, you may frequently hear the terms "keywords," "search engine rankings," and "keyword search results" bandied about. However, not everyone knows what keywords are, and how important they are to the success of a website.

Keywords are essentially words or phrases that summarize the topic of a site. When a Web surfer types a word or phrase into the blank field of a search engine such as MSN or Google, the search engine returns a list of related sites. Each site on this list is determined by the presence of the search terms, or keywords, in the site's meta tags, image tags, and content.

Keywords and Meta Tags

Meta tags are like a site's "dog tags." They identify the site's title, description, and keywords. Meta tags are invisible to Web surfers, but they are instrumental in a search engine's recognition of the site's content.

Title Tags

A title tag gives the title of the Web page. A title should only be around six words long, and the primary keyword -- the word or phrase that the site is primarily identified with -- should be in this title tag. The closer to the beginning of the title the primary keyword is, the stronger the association with that keyword will be.

Description Tags

A Web page's description tag provides the search engines with a summary of the content contained on the page. Once again, the primary keywords for this page should be contained in the description, as close to the beginning as possible. Description tags only allow 200 characters of text.

Keyword Tags

The keyword tag lists all of the keywords that can be associated with the Web page. The primary keyword used in the title and description tags should be first, followed by other keywords in order of importance and relevance. Although keywords can be separated by commas, they don't have to be; however, keywords should not be repeated more than three times, lest the Web page be rejected by the search engines as spam. Between 800 and 1,000 characters are allowed for keyword text.

Keywords and Image Tags

Image tags are the text that shows up in place of an image, if the image fails to load for any reason. However, image tags serve a more important function: they allow the search engines to "read" your images. Without image tags, search engines have no way of interpreting your images. Therefore, image tags can also help boost the visibility and relevancy of your site to search engines.

Keywords and Web Page Content

The tags that you use on a Web page are important identifiers for search engines. However, in order to maintain a respectable search engine ranking, your Web page must establish relevancy. In other words, the keywords in your tags must pertain to the actual content on the page. Therefore, the same keywords you list in your tags must be used within the text your page displays.

The most important part of the content is the opening paragraph. The primary keyword -- the keyword that was used in the title and description, and listed first in the keyword text -- should be used several times in the first paragraph, and then occasionally throughout the rest of the page. Other, less important keywords can be used occasionally throughout the content, as well. This will indicate to the search engines that your page really is relevant to the keywords listed in your tags.

Another way to judge keywords is via a concept called "keyword density." Keyword density shows the frequency at which a keyword is used. The density is calculated by taking the total number of words and dividing it into the number of times keywords appear in the text. The resulting number is multiplied by 100 to create a percentage. Keyword density can be a tricky business, however. Too low a density will fail to be noticed by the search engines, whereas too high a density can cause a Web page to be rejected as spam. Typically, a keyword density of around 5% is sufficient.

The Importance of Keywords

Keywords are a vital part of the creation of Web pages because they directly affect how visible the page will be to search engine traffic. The presence of keywords needs to be a consideration in every aspect of designing a Web page: designing the tags as well as writing the content. Because of the impact keywords can have on the success of your site, it's important to know how to use them properly. <bio>Andy West is a freelance writer and communications specialist.
Let's hop into our Internet time machine and take a trip. Today we're headed back in time to 2000 -- in Internet time, that seems like 100 years ago. You're an SEO expert and you want to write a book on how to get to the top of search engines -- what do you talk about? Meta tags are definitely on the way out. Links help but this is cutting edge stuff -- not the basis of your book. So you talk about keyword density. You say if you want to get ranked highly for a specific term, you need to have that in your title and you need to have it show up towards the top of your page, and in other parts of the page and have your page be keyword dense for your chosen topic. And I'm not talking about 1-3% keyword density -- 100% keyword density for a word actually worked for some phrases.

Ahh, the memories. The days when keyword density actually mattered.

Back to late 2006. Keyword density is dead. DEAD! In fact the question comes up if it's even important what content is actually on your webpage or if it all depends on links.

Let's take some famous examples -- first go to <a href="http://google.com" >http://google.com and type in the word failure. The first result you'll see is President George W. Bush's bio. Go ahead and look at the page, and tell me how many times the word failure shows up on the page. Yep -- zero.

To be fair, let's go back to http://google.com again, now type in waffles. The number one result you'll see here is John Kerry's website. Go ahead and count the number of times you find the word waffles on that page. Indeed -- zero again.

So what's going on here? The reason George Bush's and John Kerry's site are showing up so highly for failure and waffles is because of anchor text. (This particular tactic actually has a name -- called GoogleBombing -- but that's for a different day.) A large number of websites, have links pointing to George Bush's website with the word failure in the link.

So what should this tell us -- first of all, stop worrying so much about perfectly optimizing your website and start worrying about what the websites linking to you say.

Now I should say that having the keyword you want to rank highly for in your tag and having relevant content on that page does definitely help, and if you're targeting a highly competitive word, then you'll need to have relevant content on your page. However, don't worry about having exact keyword densities for your pages -- they're not helping you, in fact they may be hurting you since the search engines found out that ranking by keyword density was easily abused so now they actually penalize sites that are considered "overoptimized" or too keyword dense. Just write naturally and leave it alone -- that's what the search engines want.

Instead, make sure the links pointing to your site tell your story and say what your site is about. Instead of links that say "click here", get links that say "widgets" or whatever your site is about.

Before I finish here, I want to give you my favorite example for "Google Bombing." Go to the home page of http://google.com. This time type in French military victories and click the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. Nothing against, the French, but that's hilarious. Click on the French military defeats link for a good laugh. <bio>Gary Ruplinger is an SEO expert on a mission to stop the misinformation that so called SEO gurus keep telling the general public.
Delete texts in alt tag

This is a true story happened to a SEO friend of mine. What he did was right in early SEO practice, however time has been changed. Google has changed its rules and some SEO techniques have to be updated. The alt tag of the first image of a website should be your most desired keyword phrase. That's right. Let's say the alt text is `online bookstore'. My SEO friend put `online bookstore buying' as the alt text in the second picture and `bookstore for sale' as the third alt text...etc. That's not right. Every individual term should only appear once in your alt text, anything more than that would only harm you. The sad thing is that you wouldn't even notice it even though it is hurting you because you would not be banned overnight. Your ranking in some of your strong keywords with a lot of anchored links would not even have any changes. Guess what happen after I told my SEO friend to delete the repeated keywords which means if `bookstore' is in the first alt tag, the other alt tags should not have `bookstore'. 2 days later after Google cached the changed page, one keyword phrase raise from 180 to 75, another main keyword phrase raise from 33 to 10, and another main keyword phrase raise from 8 to 4. The other 3 strong keywords with a lot of anchored links remains the same, number 1. And that's not all. I bet there are so much different in the ranking of other keyword phrases too, but I have only checked 6 of them by hand in Google since Google doesn't like auto detection.

Don't optimize every page

Another SEO strategy is that: don't optimize every page! The main page and the sub-pages sometimes share very similar keywords. Take the bookstore as example. If the keyword phrase `online bookstore' appears in your main page, your sub-pages would probably have the same term `online bookstore' written. And you usually encourage other websites to link to your main page not your sub-pages. And you must be thinking Google would rank for your main page in the keyword phrase `online bookstore' because you have a lot of links to this main page. However, you don't know what Google is thinking. This sub-page which has no inbound links rank in this phrase instead of your main page. This situation doesn't always happen, it is indeed rare. However, still it happens. You might be thinking `I don't care, as long as it ranks.' What would really happen is your sub-page would rank very low because of lack of inbound links. So, the current ranking sub-page has to be de-SEO. After undo the SEO of the sub-page, such as bold text keyword phrase=85etc, the main page is ranked for the targeted keyword phrase instead of the sub-page. And because the main page has many inbound link, it ranks much higher than the sub-page. As I remember, it jumped about 60 positions. Only optimize the sub-pages if you are getting links for these sub-pages. So once Google choose your sub-page to rank it would rank high.

Another reminder is that `don't be afraid the lack of keyword density, only beware of too much keyword density.' I have seen a page only have its keyword phrase mentioned once and ranks number one in a very competitive term. Who? That's Wikipedia. After all, the quality of the content and the quality of links are the most considerable factors. <bio>Please feel free to use my content and give credits by linking back to us with anchor texts. http://www.fiofio.com/index2.php, http://www.fiofio.com/services_en.php, http://www.fiofio.com/marketing2.php </bio>

Do the words "search engine optimization" put a cold chill into the center of your heart? Does it seem too complicated? Do you even know what SEO means? Well, there's no doubt that it will bring lots of traffic to any website, which will in turn, intensify your list building efforts. However, to do it on a large scale, it takes very specialized knowledge. Can you do it? Should you do it? My answer is yes. There are some very simple techniques that can make your list building efforts go through the roof.

Remember to be list building on every page you can. Put an opt-in box on your website's homepage. Also put an opt-in box into your blog template, and into your profile at MySpace or wherever. If you haven't done these things, do them now! They're extremely important to list building.

To improve your list building efforts, you'll then need to send traffic to those sites. First, find your optimum keywords, specific to your niche. Take a piece of paper and write each one that you can think of down, just anything you think that people might search for.

Maybe you're selling some really cool jewelry. So, you'll probably come up with keywords like necklaces, rings, bracelets, and so on. Keep going, until you can't think of another single word that applies. Then, go to http://inventory.overture.com and find out how many people searched for each term in the previous month. Get rid of the words that have the highest number of searches because they're just too competitive. Also forget terms with 3,000 searches or less because no one is looking for them, and they really won't help you.

The words that are remaining are all potential keywords for you, but choose three to five that you can rank for. Then, be sure to use one keyword in every post you write at a density of around 2%. that means if you write 400 words, about 8 of them should be keywords. But don't try to get more than one keyword to that density. It's much too difficult to use more than one, and your words could come off sounding spammy. You don't want that.

But how does this apply to list building? You'll see. Hang on...

When you've finished your post, and you're sure your keyword density is around that 2% mark, go to your post and make the one of the keywords you used bold or italic. Also link to your website with one of the keywords you used, and make the hyperlink to your list building page. After making several posts in your blog, you should start to see your site rise in the rankings, and you'll be getting more people on your list. Don't expect immediate results because SEO takes a while to kick in. Just keep posting and using your keywords, and you should see some results.

Do the very same thing with your MySpace profile, or wherever you hang out, and use your keywords. Your homepage should have your keywords in it for around a 2% density, too. If you do these simple things, you'll be amazed at how much they really help. <bio>Tellman Knudson is CEO of http://OvercomeEverything.com.
The contract arrived and read in part, andquot;A keyword density of 10 percent in required.andquot; The writer who had originally agreed to craft an article based on a keyword let out a low whistle as a mental image of the finished product assaulted his good sense.

In a five hundred word article this would mean the keyword would be used fifty times. That's not bad if the keyword is 'the', but for a product keyword or phrase this is called 'keyword stuffing'. The practice is not limited to online content.

In the end, an article with a keyword density that high does not connect well with readers. You may ask yourself why someone would request an article like this. The answer is simple - the belief that this approach helps them achieve higher rankings in search engines. The truth is this article will eventually be detected as spamming and will cause the overall site to be penalized for the 'get rich quick' mentality that requested the article.

Keyword stuffing is also a problem in Meta title information and other descriptions. When you compromise the message of your website to get visitors to your site, it is possible that your site will not have anything relevant to say to your visitor because it reads like a foreign language or broken record.

Perhaps it is a lack of patience, but there are many online businesses that can't seem to wait for legitimate SEO strategies to take effect. Many of these individuals will spend hundreds of dollars with SEO firms that promise top ten listings. What many of these 'businesses' do is find a search term nobody is using (and may not even be related to your product or service) and optimize your website through Meta titles and other html language to ensure that an often bizarre term comes up first in the search engines when that exact term is used. If you're asking yourself how this helps, you have just asked a very good question.

The old adage that there is andquot;no such thing as a free lunchandquot; is true in site optimization strategies. The proper strengthening of your site position takes time, instruction and a deference to honorable SEO techniques that result in positive long-term rankings. By taking this approach you will also find that your site visitors will have the best opportunity to take your site, products and services seriously.

Techniques like 'keyword stuffing' are generally a turn-off to both search engines as well as visitors. In the end what use is increased site traffic if you have little substance to sustain the visit and maintain the long-term connection with potential clients. <bio>Scott Lindsay is a web developer and entrepreneur.
In terms of relevancy Yahoo! is the number one search engine, while Google leads the market in terms of popularity. The question is: could you optimize for both? It depends...

Keyword Optimization

One of the major differences between Yahoo! and Google is the keyword density tolerance. Google tolerates a maximum of 3% keyword density while Yahoo! around 5-6%. Now, the question is: are you going to ignore Google and start optimizing for Yahoo!?

If you go over the 3% keyword density boundary Google might penalize your website, considering it keyword stuffed. Are you going to take that risk for higher rankings in Yahoo?! Certainly not. Then what could you do to "score" in both search engines?

Use synonyms. The Yahoo! search algorithm is language based so it will recognize your words and reward your website for its variety. This way you'll add a few more searchable keywords to your content and this might bring good results in Google too.

Stemming works well in Yahoo! too. Stemming refers to word variations, including prefixes and suffixes. For example the stem forms for tattoo: tattoos, tattooing, tattooed, tattooer, etc. Google doesn't consider stemming spam either, but you should be careful how many keyword variations you use.

These two techniques will help you write your page copy in a more natural form and well-written content is valuable for your clients too. As a matter of fact the main purpose of your website is to rank well among your visitors. That's why natural language is the best approach.

Adding More Content

Adding content works for all search engines. It's like a magic potion: Google, Yahoo, MSN fall in love with content-rich websites. But you'll need to do this constantly. You'll also need to refresh web content on regular-basis. Additionally, more pages mean more possibilities to be found be your target customers.

When you add more pages don't ignore website usability. Your visitors should be able to find their way through your website and not feel as walking thorough a virgin forest. This is why you need a site map, good internal linking, clear menu bars and a easy to use website navigation.

Both Yahoo! and Google love fresh content so both love blogs. Adding a blog to your website will give the search engines a reason to come back and crawl your site more often. Yahoo! treats blogs even better than Google, so it shouldn't surprise you when you see a blog placed higher in the Yahoo! SERP than in the Google SERP.

Remember that each page, no matter how new, needs its own title and description. META tags are not as important in Google as they are in Yahoo!

In conclusion, enough quality content, good keyword choice and relevant linking will bring you results in all search engines, no matter the algorithm differences. But if you optimize for Yahoo! it is always useful to know that content is really the key. <bio>Scott Lindsay is a web developer and entrepreneur.
How can I get more traffic? This is a question I hear a lot. Although SEO (search engine optimization) is very complicated, I will attempt to break it down into lamens term.

Link Popularity, Adding content and meta tags all working together is what gives you good positioning in search engines. The first thing that is looked at by a search engine would be the Link Popularity. Basically it is someone elses site haveing a link or path to get to your site. Your site is populare because of how many other sites know of it. Trading links sole purpose is for YOUR OWN site to gain placement on search engines such as GOOGLE, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves and MSN.

Easy ways to get involved in link Popularity:

1) Linking to directories:like Directory Revolution, DMOZ and others. Linking with directories is a great way to find sites like yours and who are willing to trade links because most people who have signed up for a directory usually understand the importance of "Link Popularity"

2)Search Google for keywords that describe your practice and/or location. For Web sites that are well ranked. Where appropriate, submit your Web site to those Web sites.

3)Create a link to me page: Create a page on your site to notify others that you are aware of the benefits of link popularity and are looking for link partners. Once you start adding links to your site be sure to come up with a good management system for keeping in track of those who have linked and those who have not.

4)Download and use the Google Toolbar to track the popularity and traffic rank of your Web site, as well as other Web sites of interest. Click here to download the google toolbar.

How to give your site exposure. Below are way's to improve exposure on your site besides link popularity.

Adwords and AdSense Pay Per Click (ppc) Post to forums and BLOGS! Buy ad space Affiliates Provide free resources Send e-mail newsletters

Does your site read well?

Keyword Density is how many search words are mentioned on your page. For example if your site is about real estate in Orange County then your Target Keyword should be "Orange County Real Estate" Now this phrase should be mentioned within your pages at least 3-8% of the total text that is on that page. This is how a search engine can tell what your site's content and how to index you in a search.

There is a fine line between spamming a search engine by repeatedly typing in "Orange County Real Estate" and the 3-8% which that text should appear. If you are ever in doubt you can use tools like This free Keyword Density Analyzer. Here are a few site examples to see what other busy people just like you are doing for keyword density.

Keyword Density

Keyword density is important since search engines use this information to categorize a site's theme, and to determine which terms this site is relevant to -- the perfect keyword density will help archive higher search engine positions. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly (too low and you will not get the optimum benefit, too high and your page might get flagged for 'keyword-spamming').

Keyword density is the ratio of a keyword or key phrases to the total number of words on that page. It is one of the most critical aspects of successful search engine optimization. To improve your search engine ranking potential, your keyword density must be just right. To calculate your keyword density, divide the total number of words on your page by the number of times your primary keyword or key phrase appears. Keyword density is critical when outlining the keyword portion of your search engine optimization strategy.

Naturally, there is a fine line between strategically scattering these keywords throughout your content versus grouping them all together, separated by commas. The latter is known as spamming and you will get penalized for doing it. Don't think you can fool the search engines ---- they have the technology to figure out these little tricks.

1) Incorporate your Meta tags into your keyword phrases on your site. People often forget that search engines will spider the heading Meta tags first because they proceed and stand out from your main site content.

2) Write keyword-rich content that not only satisfies the search engine algorithms but is equally informative for customers visiting your site. This is the most difficult part of writing your content =96 but also the most critical.

3) Try to write at least 300 words for each page on your site. Again, the more content you have the better chance you will have to include those all-important keywords you diligently researched and ultimately selected.

4) Too often we see content saturated with too many keywords that, as popular as they may be, just don't relate to the site itself. Avoid doing this =96 it will only irritate potential customers.

The Right Ratio

The most essential part of optimizing keyword density is using the correct ratio of keywords-total words on your page. Keyword density ratios are discussed as a percentage. A good range for keyword density for a target keyword is 2% to 6%. Meaning, when you divide the number of times you used a keyword on your page by the total number of words on your page you should get a percent somewhere between 2 and 6.

The Wrong Ratio

Having a too high or too low keyword density can be to your page's detriment. If the density is too low your page will be considered an irrelevant result for that keyword phrase. But don't be fooled into thinking a higher keyword density equals a more relevant result. Search engines combat spam pages by penalizing pages with a too high keyword density, or keyword: total word ratio.

More info on Keyword density

Even more info on keyword density

Can you belive it but there is even more information about keyword density

Meta What????

What is a Meta Tag? A meta tag is a hidden description about your site solely used for web crawlers to help catagorize and index your site in a search.

Do's and Don'ts for meta tag use.

Some dos and don'ts:

Do use keyword research tools like Overture's Search Suggestion tool and Wordtracker to find 2-3 word key phrases to target.

Do use 3-4 keywords or 2-3 keyword phrases in the Title Tag - the most critical tag for rankings. Remember the words farthest to the left have more "weight." You might want to move the company name to the end, unless it includes targeted keywords.

Do create keyword combinations specific to each page on your site based on the page text. Think in terms of themes or subcategories. Example, if you have a garden e-commerce site, for the "bulbs" page use specific keywords like: fall bulbs supplier, tulip bulbs, flowering bulbs.

Do change your meta tags seasonally to include holidays and seasonal changes. Start about 6 weeks before the targeted month or holiday to ensure time for the search engines to pick up the changes in time.

Don't stuff keywords into your tags. More is not always better and can get you banned.

Don't use the same word more than 3 times in the keyword meta tag, and avoid using the same word consecutively. By omitting commas, you can create more combinations and avoid overusing the same words.

Don't target generic, one-word keywords with extreme competition, for example, gardens or gardening.

Don't make your title tag one long string of keywords. Make it a readable sentence or phrase.

Meta tags can help you round out your rankings in addition to other factors like page content (important) and link popularity. Do your research and use them wisely.
Writing ezine articles is one of the top ways to drive increased traffic to your website. Three of the advantages of using articles in your marketing are: it is effective, it is easy, and it is free. All you need in order to be an author of ezine articles is a reasonable knowledge of spelling and grammar, and a willingness to spend some time writing articles.

To use ezine articles successfully as a means of obtaining free website traffic, you also need to know the right way to use keywords in your articles. An article without relevant keywords or with poor a keyword framework is of limited use as a promotional tool.

Firstly, you need to choose your keywords wisely by picking keywords or phrases that get regular searches but don't have millions of web pages already in competition for that search term. Secondly, you must know how to use the keywords in your articles.

One thing you have to avoid is what is known as "keyword spamming". This refers to the practice of over-use of a keyword with the intention of attracting the search engines. How does a search engine determine the author's intention? As even Google hasn't yet developed a way of reading minds, the search engines have to rely on mathematical ways of hunting out your secret thoughts. Life for ezine article authors is made a little more complicated by the fact that we are not privy to how these algorithms and mathematical equations work; we have to go on the basis of best guesses.

The current best guess of what the search engines deem to be the appropriate level of keyword density in an article is that it is about 1%. That sounds very low but if you take a 500 word article comprising of four paragraphs, it equates to once per paragraph and once in the title. If you are using a single word, it could seem quite natural to use it more often but, it you are writing around a five word phrase, your article would probably read oddly if the phrase was used more than once in each paragraph. It is far better to use one main key phrase plus a secondary phrase and keep both of them down to a density of no more than 1%.

The best way to employ your keyword is to use it in the title of your article, once in the first and final paragraphs and two or three times in the rest of the body of the article (to be adjusted depending upon the word count). The keyword should be used within the first three or four words of your article title in order to grab human attention and to show the search engines that it is an important word.

Writing in a natural way using carefully selected keywords in the correct density is the key to writing a good ezine article. Of course, you are hoping for some extra free website traffic in return for your efforts, but pleasing the search engines is only part of the puzzle: appealing to human readers should take priority because they are your potential customers. <bio>Elaine Currie helps people to make money online working at home at her Free Work At Home Directory at http://www.huntingvenus.com and is the author of Ezine Article Writing - 10 Steps To Success.
The previous article described what a press release is, and why it can help your Internet marketing business. This time, let's talk bout how a press release is written.

As with any other form of advertising, your headline will be the most important part of your release, and let's face it... You're announcing some important event, but you're also advertising your business. And remember that your headline will be shown among many, many others. To get people to click on and read your release, it has to grab their eyeballs. Try to associate your announcement with something in the news. A pop culture reference generally works the best. You can surely find something to use at GoogleNews.com. Here's one we used to launch our Free list building CD promotion: "Stop Wasting Your Time with American Idol and Learn to Make a Living Online: Insider Marketing Experts Reveal Insider Secrets."

The next part of your release is important, as well--your subheadline or a short description of your event. For the example above, we used: "Internet marketing masters Tellman Knudson and Kyle Battis unleash their 'Insider Secrets' to creating massive profit-pulling lists in 90 days or less." Decide what your release is about and describe it in just a sentence or two.

Your story will be told in the next section--the main body. You're going to want to make the announcement and give the who, what, when, where, and why of the event, but it begins with a dateline, like this: July 28, 2007 Brattleboro, VT. Then immediately begin your story. If you're writing about an Internet marketing site launch, be sure to include the important information--who's opening it, what will the site be about, where is it located (URL), when is it going to open, and what's the purpose of the website? Sprinkle some quotes throughout the release, too. Even if you're a one-man show, be sure to quote yourself. Just be sure to keep the release in third person (he, she, it, his, hers, its, they, their, theirs) and don't write in first person (I, me, mine).

Another important consideration is keyword density. Be sure to use the keyword that you want your Internet marketing website to rank for to around a 2% density. It means that if you write a 500-word article, 10 of those words should be your keyword. If you use more than a 2% density, Google may penalize you for keyword stuffing, which brings more harm than good. Find out what your keyword density is easily by going to http://live-keyword-analysis.com and plugging in your release before uploading it to a directory.

In your "About the Company" section, be sure to provide particulars about your Internet marketing business. When was it opened, who owns it, what's its purpose? Just provide a short description in about three to five sentences.

The next section is your contact information. Be sure to give the name of your Internet marketing business again, a person's name to contact, their email address, telephone number, FAX, or any other information that will make it easier for people to contact you. Remember, media people and consumers will be reading this release and you want them to know how to find you for more information.

That pretty much wraps it up. If you follow this structure, you should have no trouble getting your release approved by the directory editors. Next time, let's talk about PRWeb and how it helps you to add more bells and whistles to get your release noticed and even more traffic to your Internet marketing site. <bio>Tellman Knudson is CEO of http://OvercomeEverything.com and a master of list building.
