The journey system is one of many memorization techniques recommended for long list of items, a word or phrase and even lines and speeches. There can be a lot of distractions just by recalling a set of information out of the top of your head which can cause a person to pause for a while and force all possible information the mind can retrieve at a given moment.

Problems such as this one can still be overcome. And if you're the person who wants to keep your memorization and mental ability in top shape; allow the creative side of your brain to work with you. This just simply means that you're allowing your creativity to work together with your memorization skills.

Creativity and visual senses are both effective and proven medium for memorization enhancement. When the brain starts to imagine, it sees visual forms and illusion; it then sees colors, forms and images. Connecting all these elements together means that you're using your brain's potential in all three aspects, and in turn, the observation it gets out of each vision is stored distinctively in the brain. This is how one can easily remember which word goes next on the next line.

This is also the same basis for the memory enhancement, journey system technique. The person imagines what he reads from a piece of paper. In using the journey system for memorizing lines or phrases or even just words; associate one keyword to the entire line. Stop and dwell on each line, no need to hurry. Try to imagine the words from the line as you would when you walk to your office or friend's house. It's easy this way because you can associate each keyword to something you're already familiar with such as the big oak tree at the end of the street.

When you have it all arranged in place, you can wind it back in your head and start recalling each key points you used in association to something you already know. This way, you don't need to force anything into your head when you want to remember a word or a line. You'll just have to allow your mind to drift back to the mental journey you made and let the words come out of your lips. <bio>About The Author: Shareen Aguilar is a writer for http://www.memory-improvement-techniques.com which has Memory Improvement Books and Memory Game Software. </bio>

You have heard or read the saying "success is a journey not a destination?" Well I want to talk about fitness and look at it a little differently. When I speak to people they sometimes talk in terms of; when I get in shape, I want to do this or go here. Sometimes they think they will be happier, when they are in shape. But there is a flaw in their logic they talk about fitness as a destination. When are you "in shape?" Is it when you run a marathon or maybe two marathons in a row? Is it when you bench press 500 lbs? Is it when you run a marathon and bench press 500 lbs?

For years people have tried to give us their personal description of what "in shape" means. The problem is that there are many different definitions for being in shape. It can mean different things to different people. However I think that most people will agree that the second that you think you have arrived and are in shape, if you stop training, you are not in as good of shape as you just were when you where still working out. It's like trying to tell the exact time, by the time you read the time it's not the time anymore.

Fitness is like being in shape, it is ever changing, and you must always challenge your body. As soon as you think you've done something hard once, the second time you do it your body will find a way to do adapt to it and usually it no longer affects your body as hard as it used to. I use the example about the first time you walk to the store, it was hard, but the second time it's easier and by the third and fourth time you could do it in your sleep. When an overweight deconditioned man, riding a bike, once told me he was in shape. I smiled and waited for is explanation. He then told me he was round and that round was a shape wasn't it? I did have to agree, it was a shape. It made me think, he was in shape too, and by that I mean, that he could have been in much better shape but he could also have been in worse shape.

Being in shape is a relative thing and we must embrace fitness in all its forms and strive to hone our fitness. We must enjoy the journey for what it is, it is our destination. It's like striving for something that we have always had, but never fully appreciated until it was gone, striving for a city only to find that we have lived there our entire life.

Being in perfect shape is like chasing after the wind. It is something that we can never do. We must enjoy the journey because it is the destination. <bio>So, if you are tired of chasing after the wind, like many of my clients were, you should be part of the MiBo Fitness System tm This is Lyle Dennis from http://www.mibofitness.com saying "Have a Great workout!" </bio>

New Discovery Flight Available

Have you ever thought about learning to fly?

March 1 (Nashville TN) -- Pilot Journey.com has announced a new introductory flight program called Discovery Flight. This program is sponsored in part by Pilot Journey, hundreds of flight schools, and several corporate sponsors. The goal of the Discovery Flight program is to share what learning to fly can do to change lives by introducing them to aviation.

The Discovery Flight consists of a real flight lesson, a Discovery Flight online seminar and a Discovery Flight Plan e-book, all delivered instantly via email from www.pilotjourney.com . The Discovery Flight coupon, online seminar and e-book are all free and entitles someone to purchase a flight lesson at a local flight school for $99, "this is lower than the actual cost of providing the lesson" according to Gary Bradshaw, president of Pilot Journey. "Even if a person never uses the coupon, the seminar and e-book are still free since payment is made only to the flight school if the flight takes place"

"This program is important" says Bradshaw. "this is not just about having just another hobby, this is about doing something that will change someone's life" Asked what he means Bradshaw states that learning to fly seems to have almost a spiritual effect on people, in that it increases self-esteem and cause people to have a can do attitude about other things in life.

There are over 600,000 pilots in America, along with 2,000 flight schools and yet this adventure is still not known to most people. The thought is that one has to be rich to learn to fly. Most pilots actually rent airplanes and fly with others for family vacations, meetings and just plain fun, according to the website. About The Author: Gary Bradshaw is an evanglist for learning to fly at Pilot Journey in Nashville. The company's website is http://www.pilotjourney.com

You might now be tossing the idea of establishing your own business. You might be imagining freedom, and if you have a 9-5 job you might be saying to yourself that this kind of job was never meant for you. If you are a student you might be saying to yourself that you will never put yourself under somebody else's authority and generate profit for somebody else.

If you are serious then you should prepare yourself for the journey. When you are going for a journey you start listing the things you will need.

To have your own business then you must really be prepared. The first thing you need to prepare is yourself. Yes, you must prepare your mind as the journey will not be full of roses. The gardens of Eden are your destination and along your path.

Because of the huge obstacles that are extremely difficult to overcome at this point in time in your life, you know that you will not have access to resources that will enable you to open a Franchise or your own offline operation. At this point your mind might be set at venturing into an online business because of the limited amount of investment needed for such a business.

The first thing that you need to prepare right from the beginning is your expectations. A home business is still a business and all the rules of business apply. Why are we saying this?

Most of the people who start searching for a home business get so excited when they read and hear about all the different opportunities available online. They forget that they have started the search for a business and they start expecting to get rich within few months. If that was true then you would have found all those big corporations are empty and out of employees.

This fact should not disappoint you, on the contrary this means that you will be among the very few who understand the real nature of home business and it will enable you to continue the journey while finding others returning after a couple of hundred yards and sticking to their jobs.

If you know this fact, then you will be able to mentor the people that you will eventually sponsor according to this fact. You will have an organization full of people who know the real nature of home business. This organization will have solid foundations and will be able to grow much better than most of the organizations in this field.

The second thing that you need to prepare yourself for is that you will have bad days or even bad months. This should not mean that the business is not working. Your home business is an online business, and one of the major differences between online and offline businesses is the location.

In an offline business you might be the only one who is providing this business in the neighborhood. In Online Business the internet is the neighborhood.

In an offline business you might choose a location with high traffic with many by passers who would be able to locate you easily. In Online business you can only choose a product or service of high demand, but to create traffic is your own job. Accidental traffic is never something that you can depend on in online business.

Therefore, the momentum of traffic has to be built one brick at a time, and this needs consistency, time and patience especially when we do not have enough funds to overspend on advertising.

You need to think about those two things a lot, and you need to prepare your mind before you start your home business journey.

The first is to Prepare and control your expectations. The second is to survive the bad times with consistency and patience.

This way you are prepared to start your home business journey with the right mindset. <bio>To find the best home based ideas and opportunities visit: http://www.businessfountains.com </bio>

We all make mistakes in our life. Some are small but with others we wonder if we will ever get over them.

Have you ever made a mistake or failed at something when you had one or more people trying to tell you that if you do it the way you are doing it you won't succeed?

Ok, I know that's a rhetorical question because we all have.

Wouldn't it be nice to go back in time and listen to their wisdom and advice?

In your journey towards your dream, goal, or passion, you will have the opportunity to make loads of mistakes. That's why it's so important to learn as much as you can from other people's mistakes and failures.

A great example of this would be if you were going to travel somewhere for the first time. You may have a general idea of how to get there. You may even have a map, which would be a great thing.

Then the day before you leave you start to talk to someone that has made the exact same trip that you are getting ready to make. They begin to give you advice about the journey.

They tell you where the speed traps are and they draw out a little short cut to bypass a town and it will save you 20 minutes. They even tell you where there is a great little café about halfway through the journey where you can get something to eat, relax, and use the bathrooms.

You now have a choice to make.

Do you take their experience and learn from them, or do you ignore it and say to yourself, "Thanks for the advice, but I think I can find the way on my own."

You may still get to your destination even if you don't listen to their advice, but you may get a ticket, or it may take you longer because you didn't take their short cut, and/or you may get there but be hungry, stressed, and worn out. That's about the time when you say, "Man, if I just would have listened to their advice I would have gotten here so much faster."

However, if you do listen and act upon their experience, most likely you will be ahead of those around you who didn't have the advice of someone who was experienced.

This is one of the reasons it's so important to have mentors and coaches around you who you can trust. They will help you avoid, hurt, pain, disappointment, discouragement, and will help you shave off time on your journey.

Many times, their advice can mean the difference between success and failure.

Now, we will still make our own mistakes in life that we can learn from.

However, I would much rather learn from someone else's experience, than have to learn the hard way. <bio>To get your free 7 part e-course, subscribe at http://www.findyourgreatness.com.
When most people first learn about the Law of Attraction, they focus on "fixing what's wrong" in their lives. They try attracting more money to ease their financial strain, finding a soul mate to ease their loneliness, creating a more fulfilling career, better health - and overall more happiness and peace.

These initial steps are only natural because better life circumstances can definitely make us feel more secure and stable.

But if you work with the Law of Attraction long enough, you start to experience a deeper shift, something bigger happening within you. You develop a new awareness that it's not about the "outer stuff" at all. It's about who you are becoming through the mastery of your inner power. It's about THE JOURNEY; the incredible journey to the center of yourself.

One of the most fascinating things about such a journey is the stunning realization that the outer stuff you were so intent on "fixing" doesn't really matter. It has no power over you except the power you choose to give it. If you believe it matters, it matters. If you believe you can't be happy unless all that outer stuff is "fixed", you must find a way to fix it as quickly as possible - or else.

Ah, but when you surrender to THE JOURNEY, everything changes. You stop fixing and start allowing. You stop struggling and start enjoying. You stop fearing and start knowing. You stop surviving and start thriving. You stop basing your happiness on outer circumstances and events - and remember that it all comes from within you.

Rather than trying to make it through each day, you begin seeing your life as an amazing opportunity to make a bigger impact on the world around you. You start thinking about the lives you can touch and the joy you can bring to others. You start expanding your vision and giving birth to dreams that are grander than anything you dared imagine before. And rather than feeling fearful and intimidated by these bold dreams, you have a strong inner knowing that you'll be given the tools and resources you need to make them happen.

Probably the most wonderful thing about this journey is that you stop taking the whole thing so seriously. You find yourself smiling a little wider, laughing a little louder and expanding with so much joy that you might burst with it! You suddenly find yourself weeping great tears of gratitude for even the smallest of blessings, gasping in awe at the beauty all around you and seeing everything in your life as a breathtaking miracle.

Even better, the more deeply you immerse yourself in this journey, all of that "outer stuff" that bothered you so much before starts transforming before your very eyes. As you heal your perspective, everything around you heals too - effortlessly and instantaneously. You realize that nothing is truly broken. Nothing needs fixing - just a tiny tweak in consciousness is enough to trigger a ripple of transformation that seeps into every corner of your life.

When you lift your perspective and stop trying to figure it out, when you truly start LIVING the Law of Attraction, you embark upon a journey that will change you forever - from the inside out. <bio>Need more insight on the Law of Attraction?
The tendency in fashion is to have a smooth thin look, especially in evening wear. For many people that look is not easy to achieve. One woman bought a very fashionable form fitting dress to take along on a seven day cruise. The dress was a bit warm, but the journey had advertised several different exercise classes and multiple activities so she thought that by the last night of the journey the dress would fit comfortably.

She forgot that the journey also offered indefinite food. By the fourth day of the journey all of her clothes were proper a bit warm. She went to the spa to find out about the body cover treatment that she had seen advertised in a guide. The pamphlet had stated that you could lose multiple inches the same day that the body wrap was done. She new she had to do something in order to look nice in her new dress.

The spa employee explained that the body wrap procedure took about three hours. First the technician takes your body measurements. This is done so that you can see how many inches you have lost after the body wrap is removed. Next a thin coating of a mud like mixture is placed over your entire body and then the body cover is applied. The body wrap is thin layers of bandage like material that is pulled tight.

You then lay in the body wrap for about an hour covered in heated blankets to help sweat out poison and improve the texture of the skin. The body wrap does not allow for much movement during this time. After this the body wrap is removed and the mud combination is cleaned off. You are encouraged to refrain from showering for as long as possible to allow the ingredients in the mud mixture to continue to purify the skin.

The body wrap procedure has multiple benefits. Many people utilize it for quickly losing inches, but the body wrap also helps improve circulation and can help to improve pain in the joints and muscles. Because the body wrap is tight and used in conjunction with heat the muscles and joints feel better. There is also the benefit of losing inches over the entire body. People have reported a losing additional inches day after the body wraps procedure is completed.

The woman on the journey felt wonderful after the body wrap procedure and the texture of her skin had improved. Her husband thought she looked wonderful in the new form fitting dress. She did have to admit that the dress looked better after she purchased a body wrap undergarment from the clothing shop on the journey ship. By the use of both body wrap techniques she looked and felt her best. <bio>John Wellington provides readers with up-to-date commentaries, articles, and reviews for http://www.body-and-mind-magazine.com, http://www.free-acne-treatment-class.info, health and other related information. </bio>

First, let me welcome you to my personal development article. I=B4m really excited to be able to share my visions and thoughts about how to attain a better and more abundant life. I have been on this fantastic journey quite a while already - about 20 years by now - and I thought it is about time to share some of my experiences here. Maybe it can be of some help to you.

Personal Development is a journey, an inner journey and you will not get there overnight. But since everybody on this planet is on her own unique journey, one day we will all get there - everyone at her own pace. It is a process going along "your" path which keeps changing depending on your view and perspective of life. The adventure of personal development will be much fun but there will be also times when you rather would like to turn around and go back.

There might be certain habits you are well acquainted with and they leave you and something new comes into place. You might loose your job because your attitude towards yourself has changed and you don=B4t fit in that job environment anymore. It is very important not to be afraid of changes. At first sight they might look as if they were negative and we are going to suffer but that is only because we cannot see the whole picture. Our view of existence is limited and directly related to our past and present experiences and the way we live.

Personal Development has to do with trust. Trust in yourself, your feelings, trust in existence, in life as such. Nothing never goes wrong, everything has it=B4s cause and effect, it=B4s purpose - it is just us who don=B4t understand.

If you walk the road of Personal Development (PD) you have already realized that your potential is far greater than you once thought. You have certainly had glimpses of a different life, other possibilities and potentials. PD opens up a new world of possible life changing perspectives so that at times it might be difficult to decide which way to go. Realizing the greatness of a human being (yourself) has an immediate impact on how your relate to yourself and your environment.

Issues like damaged self worth or fear of expressing our thoughts and feelings without thinking about the possible consequences will be resolved on your way and for the first time you will taste the utter feeling of personal freedom. The freedom from oneself. But this is like taking the second step before the first.

At first in the beginning everybody who engages herself consciously in personal development has to ask a few questions:

What does my life mean to me? What are my goals? Which dreams are going through my mind? What do I fear the most? What are my habits? Which ones have proved useful and which should I drop? What do I expect of myself? Am I responsible or do I throw responsibility on others? What are the things I enjoy doing the most? At which moments do I feel happiness and joy?....and so forth.

In our everyday lives we are affected by everything around us. Watching TV, reading the newspaper, going out to dinner. Our lives are overwhelmed with media and information and it is hard to find a quiet place or time to listen to the inner voice which is a valuable resource in our personal development journey.

Personal Development is about celebrating your life. It is about learning and education, taking the next step necessary. You are going to realize what a wonderful gift life has given to you and the only responsibility you have is to reach and fulfill all your dreams.True success and happiness comes from within and is living the life you truly desire to live =96 spiritually, physically, relationally and mentally. Make a commitment today and soon you will have a new passion in your life: Your Personal Development Journey.

Summary:

What is the meaning of your life? Are you living up to your expectations? What are your dreams? Is your life worth a dime? All these questions are asked when you go on an adventure journey in personal development - the deeper challenge of life. <bio>Copyright Ingrid Nirupama Grzeskowiak Let me thank you for your time and patience reading this article and feel free to download it for your purposes as long as this resource box is included.
After the initial shock at his knowing my thoughts,I said,"Yes, sir. The Ambrose Stone. Do you know anything about it?"

"Just some old stories," he replied, "But I have no idea where it is."

He followed me home where my mother served dinner and my father carried on a lengthy chat with him. He said he was a traveler and that he was on a journey to meet an old friend. He seemed not to want to comment any further on the details of his life. How exciting to have this gypsy adventurer visiting my home! I was spilling over with questions, but it would have been considered extremely impolite to bother a guest.

After dinner was finished, he thanked us and said that he must be on his way. We asked him to stay a while longer, but he insisted he had promises to keep and a long journey ahead. As he was about to leave, he hesitated and turned to face us once more. Putting his hand in his pocket, he pulled out a small pouch and handed it to me.

In my family it was customary never to accept payment for any good deed we did for others, so I said, "No thank you, sir."

"Oh no! This isn't money . . . of that, I have very little. I don't have the Ambrose Stone either, but this is another stone called the Jahar-Mora. If you're ever bitten by a snake or stung by a poisonous insect, hold the Jahar-Mora to the wound and in five to ten minutes, it will draw the poison out and you'll be fine. It will also bring you good fortune." Waving good-bye, he departed; I never saw him again.

I kept the stone in a little box with the few other "treasures" I'd collected, then promptly forgot about it until one day, walking through the woods, I accidentally disturbed the nest of some ill-tempered, South American wasps. Before I knew it,there was a sharp sting over my right eye and stunned, I fell to the ground. The pain was so terrible that I could hardly get up,but finally I was able to stumble back home. By this time my eye was almost swollen shut and I was beginning to run a high fever. The sting from this type of wasp could make you very ill. Some children were known to have died from it.I was really scared. <bio>Lecturer, entrepreneur and MBA business consultant, John Harricharan is the author of the award-winning book, "When You Can Walk on Water, Take the Boat."
Sting is one of the most talented, spiritual, intuitive, and exceptional artists of our time. He is a Grammy award winner, and author, a father, and an motivation to many, myself included. His book Broken Music opens with a powerful description from a time at the height of his solo career.

Sting is in his 30's as book begins. With startling imagery and detail, Sting takes the reader into a most vibrant description of a hallucinogenic drug experience he and his wife share out in the jungle. He shares with such emotion, clarity, and honesty that one can almost take the journey right there with him. Actually, one can, if one is willing to go.

I would not even want to try and do it justice, not would I want to mess up the book for anyone, but suffice it to say Sting describes a most remarkable and healing and intense journey using sacred medicine, as it is sometimes called.

The hallucinogenic journey was truthful, yet also somehow symbolic of his life and career. Like most of us, Sting is on a winding and traveling life path; he steers as best, as he can; yet somehow fate moves him along without volition it seems.

I once heard him say something along the lines that he felt like he was preparing to be a famous musician nearly all of his childhood years. It would certainly seem that way. He loved music and singing at an early age.

What strike me most about Sting are his transformational and sometimes finely profound lyrics. He no doubt writes from experience.

My belief is that His lyrics are reflective of a profound spiritual awakening he has undergone. He writes of his pain in various early songs. andquot;I can't Stand Losing Youandquot; andquot;King of Painandquot; are two song titles that come readily to mind that speak of his pain.

But along side of his pain, he writes of hope. Spiritual hope. andquot; There has to be an invisible sun, that gives its heat to everyone.andquot; It would be hard to write down a line like that and not have some trust in the natural Divine world. Sting also wrote a song called Secret Journey, that speaks of enlightenment and seeking and learning from a Master.

So, despite his early pains and sometimes dark lyrics, there is a thread of deep optimism and unconditional love that runs through out his work.

I once heard him say that the song andquot;Every Move You make andquot; flowed out of him in about five minutes, as if he were not writing it all, and it was some type of automatic writing.

Whatever the source or inspiration of hiss writing is, truly it has touched a lot of lives. Clearly he is happier now than he was in the early days of his career. Sting is one of the profound teachers of our time, and music is his medium. <bio>Glen B.
It's often said in Martial Arts that the meaning doesn't lie in how good you are or what belt you have, rather the meaning lies in the journey. Before I get into "What Black Belt Means To Me", I would like to talk about my journey of these past few months.

The Journey

Last week I had flown to Nashville to test for my long awaited San Dan (3rd degree Black Belt - This is kind of like becoming an official "Teacher"). Prior to the test I had been training consistently since April of this year at a friends dojo and my local gym.

It had been about 5 years since I've last practiced my discipline, Wado-Ryu Karate-Do, so my recollection of the system was very vague. After watching numerous tapes of myself as a young martial artist, I had re-learned my under belt curriculum, however I was struggling to remember my black belt curriculum. If you know anything about martial arts, one's under belt knowledge is essential because it is considered as the foundation of one's training. On the other hand, a lot of people believe that your training truly begins when you achieve your first black belt. I couldn't agree more. When I was promoted to Sho Dan (1st Degree Black Belt) my interpretation about Wado-Ryu and the martial arts had grown dramatically and I began to really learn.

Either way, I needed to know everything that could have possibly been thrown at me because it had been 10 years since my last official test.

In July, I went to Nashville to train with my highly recognized and beloved instructor Sensei Wayne Tyler. I consider him as a father figure in my martial arts career because of his vast knowledge of Wado-Ryu and unconditional love for his students and the art. Imagine being a scientist and your teacher was Albert Einstein -- that is what it feels like to be under the wing of Sensei Tyler (or Mr. Tyler, as I call him). I was in Nashville training with Sensei 2 -- 3 hours per day for 5 days. I caught up on my curriculum and took the extra knowledge that was passed down by him and applied it to my training back in Denver.

Again, since I didn't know what to expect, I conditioned myself to be ready for almost anything. Not only was I practicing my basics and katas (Japanese forms), but I was also running 2 miles, three days per week, 15 -- 20 minutes on the rowing machine and about 6 -- 7 miles on the stationary bike. I don't think I could have been more prepared for this test.

I successfully passed my test and was promoted to San Dan on October 17th 2006. I must say, this was one of my greatest accomplishments in my martial arts career and a dream come true. It has taken me several years to reach this goal, but it has reinforced my interpretation of being a black belt, or in my case -- San Dan. <bio>Javier Lozano, Jr. was a world champion Karate point fighter as ranked by NASKA and is now a 3rd Dan (San Dan) in Wado-Ryu Karate.
We had no idea what we were going over when the Learn GA Now request came across our desk. In fact, the first thing we thought about was this had to do with Georgia because of its initials, but boy were we wrong. However, this was an intriguing review because we learned something new. What we realized is this program introduces you to the local language in Ghana.

If you don't know much about Ghana, we'll keep in simple and just let you know it's in West Africa. While many people feel it's not the easiest language to learn, according to this online learning course they have the answer. So we'll tell you a little bit about it and if it's what you've been looking for then definitely take advantage of it. You may find that it's even easier then you. Best of all they will even help you take a trip there.

A Vacation and Cultural Experience

On your journey to Ghana, it would be nice to know before going that you can converse with the locals, right? Seriously, there is nothing worse than traveling somewhere and feeling like an outcast because you don't know the language. Plus, you will only enjoy the culture that much more if you understand the language. However, this is just the first benefit of many associated with the Learn GA Now program.

Online Classes

If you've never experienced online courses before you will like the information in the next couple of paragraphs. Since we live in such a fast-paced world, many people don't have the time to spend in a classroom locally. Utilizing an online class when you get to choose the time and place you're ready to study is a monumental asset. Since it's at your own pace you could have it done in as little or much time as you want.

Now the Learn GA Now classes are a little different because not only are you able to learn the language, but also the teacher as well. Mix in a little information on getting a Ghana Visa and being able to take an online tour of the area itself will leave you wanting know more about this underrated country. Why? Well, the more you know before you go the better because it will help you on your journey and experiencing everything throughout.

More Than Text Classes

Yes, it's great to learn the language online, but what if you don't grasp the text versions? This is important because you'll find audio areas on their website as well. So if there is something you can't pronounce, then you'll be able to hear it with crisp and clear audio submissions. Let's face it, you don't want to be in unfamiliar territory telling someone you want to break an item when you really meant to say you want to buy it.

Our Overall Analysis

When it comes down to it this will be based on the fact that you either want to take a vacation there, have some sort of schooling trip, or even have a friend here in the states who you want to be able to have a conversation with on a daily basis. Whatever the reason may be, there courses are set up to help you and if you're ready to take this journey then looking more into the Learn GA Now could be a wise decision.<bio>Let Travel Review Kings Brian Keith Garvin and Jeffrey D. West present to you more about the Learn GA Now this very second.
Early in the fourteenth century there was something in the air. In 1336 Petrarch, an Italian scholar wrote the first European travel account. His journey was modest: he merely climbed a mountain and looked down from the peak at his companions who had refused to follow him. He wrote disparagingly of his cowardly friends and so a rich tradition of European travel writing was born. Little did Petrarch know, as he toiled up Mount Vetoux, that the first and arguably the greatest ever Islamic traveler and chronicler of times and places Abu Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Battuta was engaged in a journey that would take him 29 years. It would also make him a legendary travel writer, respected in Islamic history for taking the message of Islam wherever he went.

A great historian, traveler and storyteller of our own era, Tim Mackintosh-Smith, has made Ibn Battuta's name famous in the West over the past decade. In 2001 his book Travels with a Tangerine: A Journey in the Footnotes of Ibn Battuta was published by John Murray, London. It is an account of his journey following the first leg of Ibn Battuta's epic journey (just from Tangier to Constantinople =96 Ibn Battuta eventually covered three times the ground covered by Marco Polo) and is a marvelous transportation both across a territory largely unknown to the Western reader, namely north Africa and the near East, and between the 14th century and the present day. The book spread Ibn Battuta's name more widely than ever before.

Not much is known about Ibn Battuta; all that we know of him he tells us himself. He was born in 1304 and died some time between 1368 and 1377. He was a Berber Sunni Islamic scholar and jurisprudent from the Maliki Madhhab, a school of Fiqh (Sunni) law and at times a Qadi or judge. But it is his work as an explorer and travel writer that earned him lasting fame. His various accounts document his travels and excursions over a period of almost thirty years, covering some 73 000 miles (117 000 km). Ibn Battuta's journeys covered almost the entirety of the known Islamic world at that time, and beyond. His travels took him through north and west Africa, through southern and eastern Europe, the middle east, the Indian subcontinent, central and south-east Asia and China.

At the insistence of the Sultan of Morocco, Abu Inan Faris, Ibn Battuta dictated accounts of his travels to a scholar named Ibn Juzayy, whom he had met while in Granada, the seat of Islamic Spain. The account, written by Ibn Juzayy and interspersed with the latter's own comments, is the primary source of information about his journeys. The title of the work may be translated as A Gift to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Traveling, but is most often referred to simply as the Rihla or Journey. While apparently fictional in part, the Rihla still gives as complete an account as exists, of these parts of the world in 14th century. For centuries his book was practically unknown even in the Islamic world, but in 1800 it was rediscovered and translated into several European languages.

Although hazardous in the extreme, Ibn Battuta survived all his journeys unscathed. He died in Morocco at a ripe old age (for those times) of over 60. He succumbed to the same disease that claimed his mother's life -- the Black Plague. <bio>Justine has been a journalist for 20 years and is a contributor to http://www.justtheplanet.com, the online luxury travel magazine for independent travelers. </bio>

Most people think writing a novel is just writing. I have lost count of the number of people who say "I want to write a novel" and think that they will just sit down, put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard, and the whole thing will just unfold before them. I've read a few novels, they think, why can't I write one?

If only it were that easy!

The process of writing any story is exactly that, a process. And whether you are tackling a novel, a short story, an essay or a non-fiction book, you need to begin by planning your story.

This is the most ignored stage in the writing process, and yet it is by far the most important. JK Rowling spent five years planning the Harry Potter novels. And that certainly paid off, didn't it?

The key to writing any story well, is to find the story that only you can write. This story carries your own emotional truth, and as you progress through the story writing process, your character will take you on the journey of emotional growth just as they will your readers once it's published.

The Deeper Character Journey

The deeper character journey is the most important aspect of any story. It is what your readers will remember and it is what makes the process of writing a story so worthwhile for the writer. Every time you take your character on a journey, you go on that journey yourself.

So how do we find that deeper character journey? Where do we begin?

We begin with this simple exercise:

Without thinking too much about it, finish this sentence:

=95 I am interested in writing a story where the main character discovers the importance of =85=85=85=85=85=85

Write for 5 minutes, preferably in long hand, allowing whatever comes up to just flow onto the page.

When you have finished you will find that you have written a lot of different values into your answer. Values are universal qualities of human experience, either positive or negative. Take a few moments to divide these values into their positive and negative groups. You'll find that a few similar ones in each group will stand out, so isolate these and then decide on the most important ones from each group.

Once you have done this you can now write your deeper character journey in one simple sentence.

=95 I am interested in writing a story about a character who goes from being=85.. to being=85..

What is your character's weakness?

Every character has a weakness =96 something they need to learn to have a better life. Your character's weakness should now be pretty clear to you, as it is strongly connected to what they need to learn the importance of from the above exercise. With your character's weakness in place, you can now begin to put them and their weakness under pressure and suddenly your story is off and running.

Predicament

Stephen King says he starts a story with a character in a predicament and watches them to see how they get out of it. So at the start of your story your main character must be in some sort of predicament or stuck in some way. The predicament your main character is in should be a symptom of their weakness. They are aware of their predicament, but they are not aware of their weakness.

For example, a character who needs to learn the importance of patience, is stuck underground on a broken down train. He becomes more and more exasperated and angry as the minutes tick by as he needs to be at an important meeting. As he's underground his mobile phone has no signal, and he also can't just jump off the train, as the doors are electronically sealed, and besides he's underground so he can't just wander off up the tracks in the dark.

So we know our character's predicament will expose his weakness, which is impatience. The question for you to answer is, what does he do? How does he respond? What choice does he make? And he will make that choice based on his personal values.

Values in Conflict

Conflict lies at the heart of all powerful stories. It is a well worn adage in story writing that nothing moves forward in a story except through conflict.

But a good story also isn't just a sequence of random conflicts, things that happen with no apparent pattern or meaning. It is a series of events, putting your character(s) under more and more pressure, forcing them to respond. This then shows us their true character.

Values underlie our choices, our decisions, and in storytelling they drive the story through the characters being forced to make difficult decisions where their values are challenged. A value is a belief system based on what is important to the individual. A value represents something in your character's life that they are willing to fight for. So if you have a married woman who is attracted to another man, her choice of whether to go with the other man or stay with her husband will be based on the values of romance versus fidelity or loyalty.

Once you have nailed the values underlying your character's choices, you will have connected strongly with your character's deeper journey. This in turn connects you to your readers, who will recognise similar conflicts in their own lives.

And you also have the essence of the story that only you can write. <bio>Suzanne Harrison is the Director of Writers Central, an online creative writing school and community.
Many who follow the band would have proclaimed for years that Journey tickets would never again be available. The band's reign as the rulers of the power ballad has been extremely tumultuous, and personal and artistic conflicts have littered the history of this highly-successful band. A look at how they were formed and how they grew both together and apart may help explain the twisting and turning story of this famous band.

Early Beginnings

The wheels of putting the band together were set in motion when Greg Rolie, a keyboardist and part-time vocalist for the band Santana decided to leave the group after a series of disagreements with its leader, Carlos Santana in 1971. Rolie went home to Seattle and opened a restaurant while another conflict within Santana brewed.

A short time later, Herbie Herbert, Santana's road manager, had a heated falling out with Carlos Santana after a miserable tour of South America that was aborted early due to several circumstances both within and outside Herbert's realm of control. Herbert spoke to Neil Schon, a guitarist, before leaving, and Schon expressed a willingness to work with Herbert moving forward.

Herbert got in touch with Rolie and connected him with Schon, and the two hit it off. They decided to form a band, and all three men went to work on filling out the personnel. Ultimately, the Golden Gate Rhythm Section was formed in 1973, and the band got to work on their first appearances and recordings.

The band sent a demo tape to a San Francisco radio station and gathered feedback from listeners. It was generally positive, but the band decided it needed a new name, so they held a contest to see which listener could come up with a name they would use. Ultimately, Journey was chosen.

Struggles

The band began to cut albums, but their first few releases were a failure, and Herbert scrambled to pick up the pieces. Rolie had been handling the vocal duties up until then, but was spread thin with his other responsibilities. Herbert discovered a young singer named Steve Perry and he was ultimately invited to sing for the band. It turned out to be the best move the band ever made.

Success

Perry's influence gave the band a signature sound, and their albums began to sell better. Journey tickets were also becoming a popular item, as the band was gaining an on-stage identity and a reputation for intense live performances. Momentum was beginning to build and the band was reaching ever-greater heights.

In 1981, Journey's seventh album, Escape, climbed to number one on the charts, and a new superstar band was born. Over the next ten years, the band released nearly a dozen albums and soundtracks, and they became as recognizable as any band in the world. Their hottest songs were power ballads, which were love-themed songs played and sang to rock and roll beats and guitar rifts. Millions of records were sold all over the world.

Split

Perry had been given nearly all the credit for the band's success, and that began to wear on the other members. Ultimately, Perry left the band in 1987 after an extensive tour, and went to aid his ailing mother. Perry had also just ended a six-year relationship, so music was far from his top priority. Other members of the band began to go their separate ways as well.

Over time, there have been revivals, and the current effort is the strongest push to date, but it does not include Perry. Regardless, Journey tickets are a chance for everyone to relive their past through great music. <bio>Written by Jay Nault sponsored by http://www.stubhub.com/ .
If you have installed a GPS auto navigation system in your car, then you should follow a few simple rules when driving in order to maximize your safety on the road. It doesn't matter whether you are a long distance driver using the GPS auto navigation system to plan the most efficient route possible, or just using your satellite navigation system to find a route around the traffic problems in your home town, the rules for using GPS systems safely are the same.

The first thing to check before you set off on your journey is to make sure that the GPS receiver is firmly mounted. If you have a windshield mounted receiver that uses a suction cup to hold it in place, make sure that it is firmly attached, while if your GPS receiver is mounted on the dash, check it to ensure that it is not going to fall off.

There is nothing worse than the unit falling off its mounting while you are driving, and this is a very dangerous thing to happen, especially if you start to reach around and try to reattach it while you are driving. If your system is removable, you should take it out of the car whenever you leave it parked in order to remove any temptation for thieves who might otherwise try and steal it off you.

Once you have started on your journey, and set the SatNav system up to plan your route, you should not touch it again. The SatNav should be there to assist you, not to distract you. Ideally, it will give you information about directions through the car's audio system, and you will not need to look at the screen too often when you are driving, as this means that your attention will be diverted away from where it should be =96 the road.

It is important to remember that the advice given by a GPS auto navigation system is not infallible, and it is not a substitute for common sense. If you feel that you are being misdirected, and the route that you are following is wrong, do not be afraid of ignoring the advice and following an alternative route.

When used properly, and safely, an GPS auto navigation system can provide you with all the information that you need in order to get to your destinations quickly and easily, with a minimum of fuss, and managing to avoid any traffic problems.

By behaving sensibly with your GPS auto navigation system =96 making sure it is well fitted, leaving it alone when you are driving, and paying attention when you need to =96 you will have a safer, quicker and more enjoyable journey than ever before, and never need get lost again. <bio>Jason has been in the construction equipment and industrial sales business for over 10 years.
Australian holidays are all about long journeys and adventurous travel. You could just lounge on the beach or have a city break in Sydney during your holiday to Australia, but you would be missing out. Australia is one of the best countries to explore on a longer journey, with vast tracts of unspoilt wilderness and an amazing variation in the scenery that you'll encounter.

Not only are there plenty of sights to see on a journey through Australia, there are numerous ways to travel. Whether you prefer a train, a car, a horse, scuba flippers or just your own two feet, you are sure to find an Australian holiday journey that suits you. Here are five amazing ways to explore the country...

Drive...along the West Coast

A driving holiday on Australia's West Coast allows you to explore a wonderful and comparatively untouristed part of the country. Unlike the more populous East Coast, you can drive for miles and miles without seeing a soul, but there's plenty to keep you occupied; on the classic route from Perth to Exmouth, highlights include feeding wild dolphins in the sea at Monkey Mia, scuba diving at Ningaloo Reef (smaller but just as exciting as the Great Barrier Reef) and exploring the stunning scenery of Kalbarri National Park.

Ride...in Victoria

Victoria is a popular Australian holiday destination, especially for nature lovers; the dramatic and diverse landscape includes alpine mountains, arid plains and wet, temperate Gippsland. This was horse riding country back when the settlers first arrived, and this remains the best way to explore this beautiful part of Australia. There are plenty of horse riding holidays available, ranging from centre based and beginners holidays to arduous cross country trips for the more experienced rider.

Catch the train...from Adelaide to Darwin

The famous Ghan train (a shortening of Afghan Express, named after the Afghan camel trains that trekked the route before the railway was built) crosses the entire length of Australia, north to south, in just 48 hours (though of course, you can make stops along the way!) Started in 1878 and not fully finished until 1929, a ride on the Ghan is an unforgettable journey for your holiday to Australia, taking in some of the best scenery the country has to offer alongside highlights like Adelaide, Darwin and Alice Springs. For train lovers on an Australian holiday, this is the journey to take.

Walk... through Tasmania

Known as "the Natural State", over a third of Tasmania is covered by national parks, giving you an idea of just how much amazing countryside there is to explore here as part of a holiday to Australia. It is a land best seen on foot; highlights for the eager trekker include Cradle Mountain, Wineglass Bay, the Western Arthur Mountain Range and Freycinet National Park.

Dive...to the Great Barrier Reef

A journey to the Great Barrier Reef may be one best measured in metres rather than miles, but it is a journey as epic as any of the other Australia holidays on this list. The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef in the world, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and is a scuba divers paradise.

If you go diving while on holiday in Australia, you will enter another world, a hive of biodiversity, beautiful coral reefs, and a huge variety of wildlife, including dolphins, turtles and over 1,500 species of fish. It certainly won't be the longest trip that you'll take while on holiday in Australia, but it will certainly be one of the most spectacular.<bio>Kieron Sellens is the marketing manager of the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AiTO).
Books on the spiritual journey of growth and guidance come in many styles. Some people believe that such books should be based on a person's life experience or should be relevant to a particular religious belief, but that is not necessarily the case. Spiritual growth and guidance books can also be fiction and the books on 1-inspirational-quote-book.com would fall into that category, even though many who have read these stories are convinced that they are based on fact. You see, real historical events have been interwoven into these spiritual journey growth and guidance books in a way that challenges peoples' concept of reality.

As the Angelic Being in the book says, "What may seem a reality is but an illusion. Your true essence is above the physical. When the Higher Self is confined within a mortal body it is like a death to it. Consequently, when the physical death finally comes, it is like a rebirth. See through the illusion of physical life. It is a dream and you are the dreamer! Always be careful not to get too wrapped up in your own dream. Physical life is nothing but a fleeting moment, a blink of an eye when compared with the great cosmic clock."

From our limited point of view these spiritual growth and guidance teachers are extraterrestrial, but from that perspective are we not all such Beings? After-all, our true essence is not of this Earth - we are simply visitors on a spiritual journey called life. We will return to our true home once this journey is completed.

As the angelic White Star says, "You are on a wondrous journey of self-discovery. From the moment you separated from the Source you chose to go through certain experiences in order to learn and develop through these trials. It is not wise to seek the end of the journey prematurely. There is much to be gained along the way. Become engrossed in the excitement of your quest and you will suddenly realise that you are a Co-Creator in the Divine Plan. You create your own reality. You re-affirm your reality through your beliefs. If you dwell on the negative, you will manifest that negativity in your life. Similarly, if you concentrate on the positive, you re-affirm that reality, in your personal life, and throughout the universe."

These spiritual growth and guidance books are told from the viewpoint of a divine race of extraterrestrial Beings who are concerned about the direction that humankind is taking on our planet.

As White Star would say, "You must remember that this is a grand play. On Earth, you have awards for your actors who are outstanding in their roles of various productions. They are awarded statues as a symbol of their achievement in acting. In reality, all who incarnate on the Earth deserves such an award, for each of you play the part to the fullest, becoming so engrossed that you believe it to be real."

One critic wrote 'You can either ponder the author's far reaching ideas or you can put the brain in neutral and simply enjoy the ripping good yarn'. Taken simply as an entertaining read, they are acceptable to all, regardless of personal beliefs or persuasions - all can appreciate an inspirational metaphysical book that is presented in a light-hearted fashion. Simply enjoy the journey ... and remember White Star's words, "There is no right or wrong in this world. It is simply a balancing of energies. Some are rising; some are falling. All are learning through the experience. Remember it is only one stage of the play. Even though some things may seem out of balance, or unjust, when they are viewed from a wider picture it is simply a balancing of energies."

"Every individual has the potential to heal the planet and to help unify the people in cooperation and understanding. Every individual has the power of creative visualization. Each of you has the potential to use your power of thought to bring about change in your own environment. There is power in numbers and the more people who project positive thought-forms at the same time, the more powerful the effect. Now the future is in your hands. Put a little effort into creating the future that you desire, and you will achieve miraculous rewards. It is up to you!" <bio>Born November 30 in New Zealand, Gau-Ghan shares the same birthday as Mark Twain. And likewise, avid readers will stick with Gau-Ghan like paint to the picket fence in Huckleberry Finn.
The summer after I graduated from college I had the unique opportunity to travel to France with my roommates and friends. A group of six of us left for France on the cheapest flight we could find the morning after graduation. We had plans to stay for the entire summer and just see what unfolded. None of us had jobs lined up or anything to rush back to, so we just took things in stride and determined to have the adventure of a lifetime. We learned quickly, however, that forgetting a French dictionary was not the best way to start a great summer.

We talked briefly about what we should bring on our journey to France, and I even remember hearing one of the guys mention that we would do well to remember a French dictionary since none of us spoke a word of French. I thought that advice was wise, but I never thought to bring a French dictionary myself. I was convinced that one of the more organized and responsible guys would surely remember to bring such a valuable tool for our survival.

I was wrong. Not one guy out of the six of us thought to bring a French dictionary with us on our journey. We realized this on the eight hour flight to Paris from our hometown of Chicago. We laughed about our mistake at first with sighs that we would just figure our way around and that we would be fine.

Landing in Paris we quickly learned that it would have been wise to include a French dictionary in our packing. We learned that while many French people speak and understand English, far fewer of them are willing to help lazy Americans who haven't taken the time to learn any of their language. So we were stuck in a country that mostly spoke English but that wasn't willing to help us get around their land.

We made it through what turned into a four month journey through most of France. We talked about leaving the country to explore nearby Italy or Spain, but we decided to remain in France and focus all of our time and energy on exploring this country in a more detailed way. We picked up small bits of French as we went along, but most of our weeks were spent struggling to make it from town to town on nothing but our English. A French dictionary sure would have been nice.

The moral of my story: bring a French dictionary the next time you visit France. Or better yet, bring a dictionary to any country you visit that doesn't speak your language. <bio>Triston Huntsmin has lived for years with the regret of not bringing a French dictionary on his first trip to France. He has since become fluent, however, and even lived in Paris for nearly ten years.
