So when was the last time you interviewed? How did it go for you? My guess is that it went poorly for you and that is no slam on you personally its just that most people fear interviews and lose a lot of jobs as a result. I read something like 85% of people in the work force right now had to go through 5-6 interviews before they landed the job that they are in right now. Now there may be multiple reasons for this figure but let me tell you the overwhelming majority of people, if they knew the secrets of successful interviewing skills would land the job they want every time. Instead of getting turned down, they would be turning down job offers.

So isn't it just a personality thing? Well yes and no. Personality certainly goes a long way in carrying a conversation and presenting yourself in a good light, but very few people have this endearing personality. There are a lot more people who land jobs than people with gregarious personalities--and that is because they now how to interview. Yes, interviewing skills can definitely be and should be learned. So how do people learn?

Well a lot of people have learned interviewing skills through trial and error. The more you do something the better you get at it (usually!). But who wants to learn like this...I mean there are few things that are more painful than getting a rejection letter. Also how fun are interviews in general? Basically most people want to avoid them entirely! Then, wouldn't it be great if you could learn what makes a successful interview from the eyes of the potential employer? Wouldn't it be nice to go into an interview with the mindset that you are evaluating them and not the other way around?

Another important thing to remember is that this goes much deeper than learning interviewing skills or tricks. In fact the training that makes you good at interviewing, makes you successful in life. Communication for instance is a fundamental part of success whether it be social confidence, or ability to manage, or network...and on and on.

Learning (and I 100% guarantee that you can learn this stuff) interviewing skills is profitable for anyone from the fresh graduate to the seasoned business man. It is also great for you life outside of work including parenting, dating, marriage--you name it! So don't wait any longer to get this valuable part of your success under your control! <bio>Josephine Stungger has been writing and speaking about how to thrive in an interview for the last 10 years.
For Some people interviewing can be nerve racking. What do I say? How do I make a good impression? What should I wear? etc.

With so many tips and advice out there, here are some suggestions for interviewing from a Bookkeeping and Accounting Employer to help you out.

Remember the four C's of interviewing:

1. Confidence 2. Communication 3. Curiosity 4. Class

1. Confidence -- Confidence is a learned skill. It is also the skill that I think is the most important to have and portray in any job interview. You cannot easily fake it without coming across as arrogant or a know it all. But again you can learn it. So how do you learn to have confidence? Well for starters understand what it is.

Confidence is the outward expressions that displays to others through verbal language, body language, and eye language that you believe in who you are and what you can do. You may have noticed the term eye language in the previous sentence. It's sometimes said eyes are the window to the soul. It is important to look people in the eye when interviewing. Constantly looking down at the floor or off to the side can lead someone to believe you are not very confident in what you are saying.

To help you feel more confident in job interviews remember the following. The person who is interviewing you is a lot of times more interested in how they are interviewing then listening to everything you are saying. This may sound strange but it is often true. Sometimes the people giving job interviews have not given enough interviews to feel comfortable. You can use this to your advantage in many situations. If you recognize you are interviewing with this type of person you can subtly make them feel better by being relaxed, and making them feel like they are doing a good job. For an example say the interviewer's boss comes into the room to speak with you or see how things are going. You can make a comment like, "(interviewer_name) has given me a really good description of the job and it makes me even more interested in working for the company."

2. Communication - Remember communication is a two way street. One of the quickest ways to get in the unemployment line is to constantly talk in an interview without taking time to really listen to the other person. Slightly nodding your head every once in awhile affirms you understand what the other person is saying. Also it is important to speak clearly and intelligently. You can sometimes control the tone of an interview by how you answer questions, make comments, and ask questions. The tone of the interview can summarize how the interview went. If you sound like a pre-programmed robot then the interviewer may walk away feeling like the interview was boring. Be relaxed and remember that it's not all about your skills, education, and experience only. A big part for interviewers is determining if you would "fit in" to the group.

3. Curiosity - If curiosity kills the cat then non-curiosity kills the chances of you getting the job you want. To clarify, by curious, I don't mean asking question after question or making sure you understand every single detail of the position. Since this is your career, and what you will be doing, (if you accept the position - notice the confidence J ) make sure you ask questions when it is not clear. Sometimes when I interview candidates I feel like I could stop in the middle of my sentence and say "as part of this position you will be eating ant hills" and not receive a blink of a response from the candidate.

4. Class - Last but not least, make sure you have class about you. Always dress professional, be polite, don't cuss, or park in some ones spot. Sometimes it is the little things that you do or don't do that can turn your employment search into a long adventure. <bio>http://www.ebookkeeper.org offers free bookkeeping and accounting resources to businesses, bookkeepers, and job searches. </bio>

One of the biggest reasons for parent dissatisfaction is lack of communication. It's extremely important in any small business and especially in family daycare. Remember daycare centers are taking care of a persons must valuable asset, their child. So it only goes to show that a parent is concerned about the level and commitment of care that they are receiving from a daycare provider. Communication is of such importance, not only does it show that you care about your clients, but also that you are a professional in the daycare industry.

1.	When a parent comes at the end of the day to pick up their child, always start out a conversation with positive information. If there is anything negative to say about a child place that information in the middle of a conversation. So in other words, start with positive comments, than negative, and always end in positive.

2.	When interviewing parents for enrollment to your daycare, always ask many questions regarding a families habits and patterns. What do they enjoy doing on weekend, what are their concerns regarding childcare, what are they looking for? Really try to find out what kind of family your customer is and what their needs are. Chances are you will be better off filling their needs if you know who they are from the very beginning.

3.	Establish your rules and guidelines from the beginning. Having a contract stating your rules and regulations establishes a boundary in your business. So many times I hear from other daycare owners that parents do not respect their wishes. From the start you need to set the rules and boundaries, if you don't parents may take advantage of you.

4.	Always give parents enough time and warning. If you plan on closing your daycare, raising your prices, or making any type of change give your parents enough time. Many people do not do well with change so it's always important to give them more than enough time to make the appropriate changes.

5.	Once a year do a survey in your daycare. Find out if your parents are happy and what kind of improvements they are looking for. The more information you find out about your parents and what they want the better off you will be. Make sure that the survey is anonymous so that parents are not afraid to tell you their thoughts and opinions.

© CG Groth Inc. 2006 <bio>The "Daycare Queen", Christine G.
People love to hear an interesting conversation because dialogue makes things fun. But when you are <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/podcasting" rel="tag">podcasting solo you miss out on that element. However, interviewing guests can add that exciting element to your podcast.

Interviewing is not as simple as ask a question and get an answer. There are a few things that you should consider.

1. Prepare for the interview. Make sure to do background research on your subject. Background research includes the 5 W's and H (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How), previous media coverage that your subject has received, and obtaining bio sheets if applicable.

2. Prepare your questions. Write down your questions in advanced and make sure to organize them in a way that flows.

3. Prepare to listen. When newbie interviewers have the questions written down they tend to not listen to the answer that the person gives. They just ask a question and move on to the next question. But when you truly listen to the answers, you'll come up with more questions that will add depth and excitement to your interview.

4. Prepare your guest. You'll get a much better interview if your guest is prepared as well. Before you start, be sure to inform your guest of the types of things that will be discussed. Don't give them each question word-for-word because that will give your interview a "scripted tone". However, given them a basic overview so that they can prepare.

More Tips:

• One thing to remember is to always maintain control of the interview. Don't allow your guest to ramble.

• Make sure you ask open ended questions. Avoid questions that begin with do you, have you, would you, could you.

• Avoid asking leading questions. Take your opinion out of the question before you ask. For example, if you ask "Were you excited about the tour" you'll either get a yes I was excited or no I was not excited. The guest will be focused on the word "excited". But if you ask "How did you feel during the tour?" you'll get a much better answer. <bio>DJ Nelson can help your business communicate effectively.
If you are in the process of hiring new employees, you will need a very organized way of eliminating all the bad cantidates as well as selecting from the top ones. Start by preparing a list of basic interview questions in advance. Also, while you won't want to read this off like a robot, you should definately take the time to rehearse it properly.

1. Make A Good First Impression

Remember that an interview scenario is a mutual engagement and the person you are interviewing will at the same time be interviewing you. Thus, you will want to make a good first impression. Have a strong pose, and ooze confidence in your operation and what you are doing. If you can, exhibit flawless communication skill and a very tidy and professional appearance.

2. Explain Everything In Detail

Many interviewees will be somewhat sceptical of your business. They may be wondering, mostly, what the terms of their employment will be and what their hourly wage is, if there will be any benefits, etc. A good place to start is to explain the job and describing the company. Then move on to the heart of the interview. You will want to ask about several general areas, such as related experience, skills, educational training or background, and unrelated jobs. Open ended questions are always preferable to ones that can be answered in one word.

3. Sample Interview Questions

- If you could invent your own perfect job, what would it be like? - How do you structure your time? - What are three things you like about your current job? - What were your three biggest accomplishments in your last job? In your career? - What can you do for our company that no one else can? - What is your biggest strengthweakness? - How far do you think you can go in this company? Why? - What do you expect to be doing in five years? - What interests you most about this company? An interviewer that seems alert and interested should be given precedence over one that slouches, yawns, or fidgets. Look also at the quality of their clothing - is it clean and neat, is it obvious that they have ironed their clothing prior to the interview? People that can't even make the effort for an interview shouldn't be considered - being late almost always should discredit them from being considered. <bio>For more great interview related articles and resources check out http://weknowrecruiting.info </bio>

Every daycare needs a way of communicating to their parents and a newsletter is a great way of sharing important information. Every newsletter should be fun, exciting and newsworthy.

Activities that children participate and love at daycare can be shared with parents. There are so many things that happen at your daycare so don't be afraid to tell parents about all the activities and fun that is going on. Your parents will appreciate every bit of information that you tell them so don't hold back they will love it.

Tip #1 Make your newsletter appealing. Use fonts, pictures, and make sure you spell correctly. You want parents to be exited about picking it up.

Tip#2 Always use the same color of pager, the same font. You don't want parents getting confused as to what's going on.

Tip#3 Talk about your parents and children, mention little things about them with their permission. Have lots of pictures of the parents and children who attend your daycare.

Tip#4 Talk about what is going on in your classroom and how parents can reinforce that behavior.

Tip#5 List resources that would be helpful to parents. Websites, magazines, books, that would help parents with raising their children.

Tip#6 Find out what kind of information your parents are looking for in your newsletter. Don't feel shy- ask your parents what kind of information they are looking for, maybe they need help with potty training their toddler, or are frustrated by todder behavior. There is truly so much information that you could include in your newsletter that would help parents in "parenting".

Your parents will love having a newsletter that will communicate all the activities and fun that occurs at your daycare center.
It can be a nerve-wrecking prospect to think about your impending job interview. What will you say? How will you dress? What if the interviewer asks questions for which you don't know the answers? These are all questions you may run through your mind before ever meeting the prospective employer.

But while interviews can be intimidating, they don't have to be feared -- especially if you come equipped with the right knowledge. So let's look at three tips that can help you place the job you want in the palm of your hands.

Tip #1: Conduct Practice QandA Sessions

Before you ever set foot on the property of your prospective employer, it is important that you mentally prepare for the challenge you're up against. Being that you've never interviewed before, it may seem impossible to prepare for the unknown. But luckily for you, there are bound to be some individuals in your life who have been on job interviews. So give them a job of helping you prepare.

A good way to start your preparation is by first conducting some research on the company you are interested in working for. After you've learned the company's overall mission, what they look for in employees, and most importantly, what they want in the hiring position, you can give this information to your helper. Then he or she can compose interview questions, have you show up for the mock interview in full attire, and ask the questions so that you can begin to feel comfortable with the process.

Tip #2: Dress for Success

This is probably one of the more important aspects of interviewing for any position, no matter how casual you think it might be. The prospective employer wants to confirm how serious you are about the job, something that is partially accomplished by dressing up in business attire for the interview.

While this may seem to be common sense to some, there are many newcomers to the world of interviewing who show up wearing khaki pants or low-cut tops. So if you already knew that wearing a business suit (clean with no wrinkles) is the way to go, good job. But if you were just about to walk out of the door in your T-shirt and khakis, you may want to go change your clothes.

Tip #3: Speak from the Heart

Starting off in your practice QandA session, and eventually transitioning into your actual interview, it is important that you place personal value on your decision to apply for the job. If you go into the interview thinking that you won't like the job, the interviewer might sense the apprehension and pass you up for the position. However, if you come in genuinely enthusiastic about the position, it will be much easier for you to find the right words to express that enthusiasm.

If you follow these three tips, you'll be that much closer to securing the job of your dreams. So practice, practice, practice with your QandA session, go buy a suit that makes you feel comfortable, and go to the interview with great passion. You'll see that your budding confidence in your interviewing skills will skyrocket in time for your very first interview.<bio>Heather Eagar is a former professional resume writer and is passionate about providing working professionals with current, reliable and effective job search tools and information.
Are you interested in hiring a real estate agent?

If so, you should take your time during this process.

(there is a free ebook that shows you how you can profit as an estate agent for you to download at the bottom of this page)

Many people make the mistake of hiring the first real estate agent that they come across, and in no time at all they are fed up with the person they are doing business with.

One alternative is to interiew estate agents before your hire one.

Interviewing a real estate agent does not mean that you have to sit down with them, and treat it like a formal job interview. Instead, write down some questions that you have, and ask every real estate agent that you talk to.

Make sure that as they are answering the questions that you write them down. This way when you are done speaking with all of the real estate agents on your list you can go back and find the one that is best for you.

Chances are that you will be able to tell what real estate agent is right simply by talking to them. They will be able to tell all about their past experience, as well as exactly what they can do for you.

Make sure that you not only hire a real estate agent that is experienced in selling homes, but also that you find somebody who you do not mind working with as a person.

Remember, the real estate agent that you hire will be in your home on a regular basis, and you will have to keep in touch with them. If you do not get along with them it is going to make for a rough time when having to communicate.

Overall, interviewing a real estate agent before hiring is quite important. This is essential if you want to get set up with the best agent for your situation.

There is no rush when hiring a real estate agent. Take your time to speak with each one, and then make a decision on what you are told. If you are having a tough time making a final decision there is nothing wrong with making another round of phone calls to narrow things down a bit. <bio>Download A Free Ebook That Shows You How You Can Make $100,000 Per Year As An Estate Agent: http://www.freelandproperty.com/agent.htm </bio>

When babies cry for more than three hours per day, they are said to have colic. This period of excessive crying differs from baby to baby, but usually occurs when a baby is around three weeks of age and wears off when a baby is in between the age of four to six weeks. During this period of extreme disturbance, the parents usually get little or no sleep.

Most doctors believe that colic occurs to a child in order to psychologically awaken, and prepare the parents of the newborn child, for a new life. This sense of awareness created through colic, is said to make the parents understand that a new member is now in the family. It is just as though the child is announcing their presence. If not for colic, doctors say that the normal way of life will resume and the parents will need more time to adjust to their new beginning as parents.

Usually what most parents would want is for the child to meet their demands. If the parents want to go out they would expect the child to stay quiet for the sitter, when they want to sleep they would imagine that the child would also fall asleep with them. This is not the case as the colic introduces a lot of change into their current active life. This helps the parents adjust their lifestyle to accommodate the newborn child instead of the newborn complying to parents lifestyle for each other. Reason for this belief has risen due to the fact that when parents have adopted a new lifestyle accommodating the newest member of the family, the colic stops.

Also what parents should understand is that colic is not a disease or an illness of some sort. It is very normal for a child to go through this period. The crying in some children will be more than others but this soon all this will go away. It is just another sign that the child is growing physically and mentally healthy. <bio>Jason Rickard is the owner of http://www.yourfavouriteshop.com - Offering White Noise and Relaxation CDs - Visit http://www.hapahapa.com for more articles </bio>

In the past, people married right out of high school and college and had their children while they were still in their twenties. Due to the fact that many people are marrying at a later age and having children while they are in their thirties and forties.

Many of these parents are quick to point out the advantages of having children when you are older. When compared with people in their twenties, these older parents are more financially stable. They have successful careers and can provide their children with more expensive material items. They also can give their kids educational advantages that younger parents could not afford.

Older parents may also be less self absorbed than their younger counterparts. Younger couples may resent the fact that they cannot go out on the weekends while older parents have outgrown this phase in their lives.

These more mature parents also have additional life experiences to draw from when dealing with their children, making them more prepared to become parents. Older parents also tend to have more patience in dealing with younger children.

Older parents also tend to put more stock in the quality time with their youngsters. Due to their maturity, older people tend not to take the small things for granted.

There are several disadvantages to staring a family at a more advanced age. Many older parents do not possess the physical stamina that their younger counterparts have. For these parents, simple activities such as running and climbing may be impossible for them to do.

These older parents also have to worry about their encroaching old age and death. Many of these individuals worry that they will become a burden on their child just as this youngster is becoming an adult. They also have the worry that death will take them before their child reaches adulthood.

An older parent's set of values may not be in sync with the modern problems and issues that their child is dealing with. An older parent may need to educate themselves about these issues so they can better advise their child about how to act in a specific situation.

When speaking to children who have older parents, the negative and positive views vary. While some children feel that they are closer to their older parents when compared to their friends whose parents are younger, others feel that the age gap causes more problems for them. Many children feel embarrassed when their parent sits on a bench at the park while younger parents are playing with their children. It may also embarrass them when strangers assume that their parents are their grandparents. Having the oldest parents present at school functions may also make the child feel uncomfortable.

These children may also feel that their parents are too old fashioned to offer any viable advise and may avoid discussing their problems with their parents. Other children feel that they can speak more openly with their older parents as these adults are less quick to judge than younger parents might be.

There are advantages and disadvantages to being an older parent.
Finding biological parents the easy way using online public records

Do you want to find your real parents? Are you curious about where you came from, who your parents are and why they gave you up for adoption? If you've never known your biological parents then it's only human nature that sooner or later you'll start to wonder why it is that they left you. You may not want to meet them, especially when you find out what the're like but I bet that you would like to know something about them even if you do it secretly.

Before the Internet and the availability of public records online the only way to find someone was either to spend a lot of time making enquiries in the places where you think the person may have resided or to spend money on a private detective who would do the work for you. The first option often meant a lot of traveling to follow up leads that you find. The second option is expensive and enough to make most people think twice about finding their lost parents.

Start searching for your birth parents by looking yourself up

You have to start somewhere and you aren't going to get far unless you know the names of your parents and have at least an idea of where they lived when you were born. This information should be on your birth certificate but if you were adopted then you might not possess a copy. If you don't have your real parents details then go online and look up information on yourself. You should be able to find the information that you need amongst the public birth records.

Armed with the information about your parents from your birth record you can now search for their details using the same online database. If you know their names and where they used to live you should be able to find out where they are located now.

And there's more. When you start finding information on your parents you can find out much more than simply where they live. You can find telephone numbers, criminal records, marriage records, arrest records and all sorts of things that you never imagined.

Tracing birth parents confidentially so that you decide if you want to contact them or not

You might have a burning desire to get in touch with your real parents or you might just be curious to know who they are and what they've been doing. You might not know yourself whether you want to contact them at this time. Either way there's no harm in doing the searches and tracing your biological parents and possibly the rest of your real family because it's all done with 100% confidentiality.

When you have the information you can decide what you are going to do with it. You can pick the phone up and call them or you can quietly ignore it and get on with your own life.

Using an online public records database to find people doesn't work for everyone, some people just can't be found, but it is the best and certainly the easiest way to search for someone by a long way. If you are even thinking about the parents that you've lost then you owe it to yourself to give this a try. You might get a very pleasant surprise and you don't have anything to lose.<bio>Trace yourself, your birth parents, your family and practically anyone How Do I Find A Person? Popular guides and tutorials http://www.howdo-i.com/</bio>

Most often than not, parents find their children a handful both emotionally and physically. They love their children and want to give them the best they can -- and always feel that they could have done better if they found/ had better guidance. Parents mostly feel lost when it comes to establish a mutually respectful relationship which can alternate love and respect effortlessly.

Where Do You Look for Parenting Guidelines?

Usually, when you are stuck in your day-to-day parenting chores, you tend to ask your parents -- because in your mind they would know best. Similarly, you should understand that for a child, the parent is the ultimate authority often for life -- though this would not be visible at the first glance.

It would be great if there was a parenting curriculum, which could act as a standard for all parents. Since this is not there, it is left on the intelligence of the parents to work out the best solutions when they have a problem with parenting; the internet is priceless for this purpose. One can search and find parenting forums, chat lines, websites, books and even hotlines for experts which can provide much better guidance than any parenting curriculum would have ever done.

Your Own Parents

The best parenting guidelines would always be your gut feeling and the advice of your mother. Whenever you feel that you are stuck, all you need to do is to get in touch with your mother and ask her how she would have handled it. Unfortunately, most of us lose emotional touch with your parents after we marry and settle down to raise our own family. We often forget that both the 'school' and the 'parenting curriculum' can be found in our own parents!

There are a lot of things that experience hands down over to parents along the years; and often this experience becomes a private parenting curriculum, which is bundled tightly in the mind's attic waiting to be unfolded and used at the appropriate time. Hence, you will never find a better parenting curriculum or guidance than that your own parents collected over the years to hand over to you. This is why the relationship between parents and their children and that of children and their grandparents is so meaningful.

Of course, for those who cannot reach out to their parents, there are millions of websites which can act as surrogate parents in difficult times. Fortunately, the internet can be used at any time of night and day with excellent results. It is very rare that you search something on the internet and you come up empty-handed -- parenting help included. <bio>Ann Merier writes articles about family health, house and garden Topics. http://parentingtips.ultimatehealthinfo.com http://stopsmokingtip.ultimatehealthinfo.com/ http://losingweight.ultimatehealthinfo.com/ </bio>

Your heart is beating faster than usual, your hands feel clammy, your mouth is so dry it feels like you have cotton inside -- and your supposed to feel confident. Are you going to an interview or a torture session? The answer is -- "it's all in your perspective."

Ideally you would sit poised thumbing through a magazine, feeling relaxed as you wait your turn to have a conversation with the interviewer for the company. Think about it - what do you have to lose here? What's the worst thing that can happen? What if you don't get this job - is the world going to stop turning? I realize of course, that bills must be paid, but you are taking the wrong approach if you are going to come across as desperate -- "Please, please, hire me." Interviewers smell fear.

A change in thinking

The first, and most important step is to change the way that you view the interview. This is not an appointment with the dentist who may inflict pain. It is a conversation with another person. What is the worst thing that can happen as a result of the interview? You won't get the job, which may not have been the right job for you anyway.

Secondly, this is a conversation - a two-way process. You will be interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Is there a good fit here -- both ways? What looks good on paper may not be what it appears -- for either party. It will be part of your job during the interview to investigate whether this a good place for you, and whether you want to invest a significant part of your life here. When you are not checking them out and what they have to offer you are missing an opportunity that you may regret later.

Calming techniques

One of the best techniques to handle stress is through breathing. Take deliberate, shallow breaths. Take air in through the nostrils and exhale quietly through your mouth. This is a technique that should be practiced as a relaxation technique before the interview so that your body gets used to slowing down the breathing process and relaxing.

Relaxation techniques such as yoga, and meditation classes, are recommended for anyone who has an extreme case of "interview fright." The interview can cause panic attacks if the fear is strong enough. Pre-conditioning will do wonders for this type of anxiety.

Preparation before the interview

These are competitive times and you should steel yourself to expect some rejection. Think about it this way, "Did you get a marriage proposal after every date?" Well, you probably aren't going to get a job offer after every interview. For every job you apply for there are more than likely three to four equally qualified candidates in line for the same job. Whether you stand out from "the crowd" will depend on your preparation and ability to show confidence in yourself -- believing that you are the "best candidate for this job." How can you possibly sell anyone anything if you don't believe in it yourself?

Preparation will make you feel more confident and less anxious. Can you imagine giving a performance without some practice and preparation? "Winging" the interview in today's market is a big mistake.

Fear of Rejection

You may have had a number of interviews with no offer. You may be feeling defeated, and it's beginning to affect your-self esteem.

This would be true of anyone. But it is a mistake to take it personally. There are so many factors that could be affecting the offer that it is impossible to say what is happening. There may be internal candidates, relatives promised jobs, a competitor who is a perfect match for the job, a lack of chemistry between you and the new boss, a mismatch in salary needs, etc., etc.

Let it go

Give yourself credit for getting an interview -- only a small percentage of people get this far in the process. Give yourself credit for going out there and putting yourself on the line, even though it is painful for you. Give yourself permission to not get job offers. Believe that an offer will come through when it is the right offer -- the right fit for the company and for you. Take the control back and reject the feeling of fear.

When you have done everything to prepare for the interview, and you are satisfied that you can present yourself in the best light possible, the next step is for you to let it go. You can learn something from each interview. Learn to enjoy meeting new people and having new experiences. Who knows you may even grow to like interviewing. <bio>Carole Martin is a celebrated author, trainer, and mentor. Carole can give you interviewing tips like no one else can.
In the early days of television, there was a top ten show called "The $64,000 question".

Players would be asked a series of more and more difficult questions. As the questions got more difficult, their price tag got bigger. The final one was the $64,000 question.

Answer that one and you were home free.

Sounds a bit like your last interview doesn't it?

You know, the small talk is easy. Then you settle in and the questions get tougher and more specific.

You are concerned about making sure you know your business and can answer those tough questions.

You don't pay much attention to the easy ones, like, "so - John, why don't you tell me about yourself?"

Most of us don't take that question seriously. We consider it small talk. We answer in generalities, cliches, and superficial comments.

"Well, there's really not much to tell" -or- "when I was six my parents moved us to Montana".

This question is loaded though, and should be answered carefully.

Here are some ideas:

1. Answer the question as it pertains to the interview at hand. Tailor your response to highlight relevant professional and/or personal accomplishments based on how the interviewer drives the discussion.

2. Focus on mapping your unique knowledge, skills and abilities to the perceived need of the employer. If the interviewer has shared an interest of theirs with you, seize on it, if you can. Never initiate a discussion based on personal interests though.

3. Ask the interviewer what they want to know. For example: " Do you want me to focus on the major accomplishments at my current or last position or do you want me to provide an overview of my experience?

This may sound presumptuous, but the tactic helps focus the interview in your direction.

4. Answer the question with your two minute pitch. Make sure it is tailored to the industry and niche you are interviewing for.

5. If you are a career changer, provide an interesting, meaningful story about how you evolved in your career to this point. Integrate your transferable skills into the story.

6. Explain how your past life accomplishments and skill sets provide a smooth transition to the new career. Explain how you can add value with a fresh perspective.

When you analyze this question you can prepare an effective strategy to steer the interview in your direction. Successful interviews are ones that guide the interviewer and encourage him/her to ask the questions that you have the best answers for.

Your resume can be a great help in this process. Prepare a resume that highlights the accomplishments you want to discuss. When you answer the $64,000 question you can lead the interviewer directly to those accomplishments you want to promote.

Here's why:

The majority of interviewers don't read resumes before the interview. They just don't have the time. Therefore, they will be happy to have you lead them through your accomplishments as long as you can integrate them into the interview framework.

The 30 second impression

HR professionals will tell you that most interviewers make up their minds (at least on a subconscious level), in the first 30 seconds. You can't fight that cliche so don;t be concerned.

I like to focus on the ten minute impression.

In the first ten minutes you will be asked to "tell me about yourself". How you answer this question may have a significant bearing on the outcome of your interview.

Your objective is to focus on your successes and ignore your failures. Measure the mind of the interviewer and align yourself with their values and culture.

The next time the interviewer asks you to "Tell me about yourself", save the small talk and unleash your strategy.<bio>Perry Maisin is a business communicator with 25 years of experience in resume writing, business process documentation, and technical staffing.
So, you have wanted a horse all your life, but you can't seem to get your parents to agree to get you one. Well, what you need is a plan, a parent friendly plan that shows your parents just how a horse will affect your life.

Start off by getting a job. I know, everyone says that, but it is really important. By getting a job you will show your parents that you are responsible enough to manage money. You will need at least $500-600 a month to care for a horse, so show your parents that you can earn that much money. Start a savings with your income and set aside enough money to pay for at least two months of board.

Next, find a barn that is local where you could keep your horse. Find out what the costs of keeping a horse there are. Be sure to include vet and farrier costs in your cost estimate. Get all these numbers on paper so that you can show your parents the actual costs.

Now consider what you could be doing if you did not have a horse. Are you currently spending a lot of time out partying or hanging out with friends? Be prepared to lose much of that time to your horse. Show your parents that these things are less important to you than your horse would be. Explain to them that you would be more concerned about paying your horse's upkeep and working with your horse than going out late to parties or getting into things your parents would prefer you avoid (after all, who can afford drugs or alcohol if all the money is going to the horse).

With this information in hand, sit down with your parents and have a long talk. Discuss doing a trial run of horse ownership. You can either take on a part board situation or a lease of a horse. This way you avoid the initial cost of buying a horse, but still get the chance to show your parents how you will handle horse ownership.

If your parents agree to the trial, be sure to keep up your side of the bargain. Pay your horse's expenses. Your parents should not have to foot the bill unless there is an unforeseen emergency. Go out to the barn as often as you can, and avoid going out and partying late. If you can keep this up for a year's lease or part-board, your parents might actually start to see things your way.

Owning a horse is a huge responsibility, and you will need to do everything in your ability to prove that you are up for the challenge. Many kids just can't manage the stress of having a job and paying for their own horse. On the other hand, parents are stressed enough just paying for the general bills. If you can prove that you will be self sufficient, you will give your parents the chance to accept your proposal without fretting that you will leave them in the lurch.<bio>Lydia K Kelly is a writer for HorseClicks, classifieds of horses for sale Alberta, horses for sale British Columbia, horses for sale Manitoba and other provinces.
When interviewing for a job, whether it's to start your career after finishing school or to move up to a better position, the best thing you can do is come prepared. Dressing appropriately and researching the company are two ways to prep for the day, but it also may be helpful to give your resume another look and anticipate interview questions.

As far as interview questions, know off-hand such things as the name of the company you work for as well as your title and a description of your responsibilities. Also, be able to recall all of your employment history quickly. Have your resume readily available for reference, but refrain from reading it as a script. The interviewer has the same resume and can read it just as well as you.

When asked about your previous job, be sure to stay honest. Keep the focus on the job and your accomplishments, not on the company, your boss or your coworkers. Talk about what you expected the job to be like and how it turned out. Stay away from being negative. If you did not like something about your former job, simply say it did not meet your expectations rather than chalk it up as a bad job.

But be careful. Don't make your position sound more impressive than it was as this could come back to haunt your later. Try to discuss responsibilities from your current job that overlap with the job you are interviewing for to show you have experience. If asked about challenges you faced in your current or former job, make sure to answer with specific examples. Show that you are proactive but don't make it seem like you did all the work. Interviewers want a team player, not a hero.

One of the toughest questions to answer deals with examples of problems you had with a coworker and how you resolved them. In your answer, don't bash your others. Instead, discuss a situation in which there was a misunderstanding or miscommunication. Discuss a problem with a definite resolution. If the problem was never solved, don't talk about it!

Another difficult question to answer is why you are leaving your current job. Again, be honest! If you were fired, say your skills did not fit the companies' expectations and that you learned from your experience. If personal problems caused you to leave, say so, but also add that the problems have passed. Always stay away from insulting anything about your old company. If you bad mouth your previous company, what is to keep you from bad mouthing the company you are interviewing with when you leave?

One of the final questions an interviewer may ask is: "Why should I hire you?" This is your final chance to show the interviewer you are cut out for this job. Go over your skills and experience and line them up with the job requirements. Leave out anything that is not relevant to the job description. Also, emphasize your ability to learn new things quickly and to work as a team player. Such skills are things employers always want to hear.

At the conclusion of the interview, make sure you have some questions of your own. This shows you are interested and prepared and gives you the ability to assess the company to see if it is a fit for you. Ask about the responsibilities of the position, the management style of the company, expected travel and other points of interest to you. However, stay away from asking about time off, what the company is about (you should already know) or if you got the job.

Most important, immediately after the interview, send a thank you note to the interviewer. Even if you know you got the job, this will show the employer you are thoughtful and polite and will help you stand out. If you feel you need more prep before your interview, check out the Internet for more common interview questions and preparation tips.<bio>Melissa Mashtonio writes for Manta.com, the go-to site for researching company profiles.
It all depends on how birth parents and stepparents get along with each other. If everyone involved is friendly with one another than no special arrangements need to made and the bride and groom can plan the wedding however they want. However, this is rarely the case. If there is some problem with birth parents and stepparents, this article will outline some guidelines that can assist the stepmother in following correct wedding etiquette.

Begin by thinking of the wedding invitations for divorced parents. Traditionally, the parents of the bride will host the wedding ceremony and they will be first on the wedding invitation. It is proper etiquette to have the mother and father on separate lines on the invitation if they are both contributing money to the wedding. If stepparents are also contributing money to the wedding, they can be included on the invitation as well.

The next thing to consider is your seating plan. What is the correct etiquette for parents who are divorced? The bride decides this but usually the mother should be seated up front. If the mother and father get along, they can sit on the same row together. If they do not get along, the father can sit on the row behind his former wife. Typically, the stepparents sit in back of birth parents. Of course it is awkward to have ex-spouses sitting on the same row together but the day is not about who is the current wife of the biological father, it is about the bride's special day.

Family photos can be an etiquette problem as well. The majority of photographers will shoot different photos for birth parents and stepparents. The two sets of parents will not usually be in the same photo but if this does happen, the mother and stepmother should be put on opposite ends of the photograph. It is not strange for the stepparents to not be seen in the official wedding photographs at all. Therefore, do not be personally offended if this occurs because it does fall within correct etiquette for parents who are divorced.

At the wedding reception, etiquette dictates that stepparents take a back seat to divorced parents, that is unless they are co-hosting the reception with the birth parents. If the mother hosts the wedding and the father hosts the reception, it is acceptable if the stepmother takes a place in the receiving line and the mother is not there. However is the birth mother is hosting the reception, it is best that the stepmother not attend. Obviously these petty points on wedding etiquette for divorced parents is only a guideline and can and should be adjusted by the bride's needs and wants.

Lastly you have the family dance.
