It is the ASES mission to promote widespread use of solar engery for the short term as well as long term.

The American Solar Energy Society publishes a bi-monthly magazine that has won a number of awards. Called Solar Today, it covers all facets of solar energy and other renewable energy technological breakthroughs. Continuous topics addressed in the issues include case study building, solar and other energy policies and projects on a community-wide scale.

ASES is the U.S. arm of the International Solar Energy Society, and as such dedicates itself to adoption and development of renewable energy including solar energy, wind energy, hydrogen energy, geothermal energy, ocean energy, energy from biofuels and overall energy efficiency.

Some specific and ongoing ASES projects include the promotion of regional and national short and long term solar energy sue, the organization of the national conference on solar energy, the annual nationwide solar tour, and the online newsletter, the Sunbeam. ASES also sponsors roundtable discussion on solar energy and related issues in our nation's capital, distributes publications of interest to solar energy advocates, and organizes a network for solar action.

On its Web site ASES publishes answers to frequently asked solar energy questions. Here are some of the more commonly asked questions and their answers.

Can solar energy be used for my home or my business? How do I determine if I will have enough sun for it?

The answer is that there are few places where the solar energy would not be adequate to meet at least some of your solar energy system needs. A solar energy system designer in your area, or an installer or builder or solar architect can assess your requirements for power, your property, the type of system you would need, the availability of sun and other factors to make the determination if your solar energy system would meet your power needs. Typically, a solar energy system will give off plenty of energy even on a cloudy day. It will just give you less than on a sunny day.

The next question is about whether solar electricity can be used to heat a home or office's water? The answer is that this is impractical, as a solar water heating system is much more cost effective. Similar, if you want to heat a small space you could do this best with equipment that creates solar thermal heat with passive solar designs or collectors that are transpired. <bio>http://energy-hq.com Learn everything you need to know about Energy, from conserving it to energy drinks </bio>

Affordable Solar Energy

The cost of obtaining solar energy is decreasing. The cost of solar energy systems and the cost of solar energy panels is more reachable than ever before. Essentially, the cost of solar energy panels is less in price and produce more electricity. This is only natural to occur seeing the trend of technology. Things such as the cost of installing solar energy starts off expensive and then gradually drops. The cost of solar wind generators can be found for less than $800.00, while an the cost of an entire solar energy system can be purchased for less than $12,000.00.

There are many prices to think about based on your needs. Whether you are looking for a solar water heater, solar panels, solar wall heaters ($600-$800.), or generator, price ranges can peak at $4000.00 or less for the heaters, or more based on what you are buying, like the panels which go up with wattage.

The years of the big spenders having the solar energy is pretty much over. Prices of solar energy have come down to earth so much that even the normal everyday homeowner can get in on it. Residential solar energy costs are getting lower all the time. You can search many invaluable websites that have everything from solar panels, to solar wind generators, storage, the entire solar energy system itself. Some things are pricey, yes, but overall, what I have seen out there is fairly reasonable, and when it is installed, there is just something very appealing about it that makes the initial upfront cost worth it.

Costs of solar energy will involve the purchase of solar energy panels which can generate 50-500 watts a piece, the solar energy generator for transforming solar energy into electricity usable by the homeowners. Solar energy panels can power many things in your home. Think about all your lights, and their individual wattage. Calculate the watts generated by a solar panel. These are some of the things you need to think about. A home solar energy system can be explained by a professional, as they assess your needs. They can further explain all the energy assessments needed fro configuring your home solar energy system.

Their are many things you can do to put into practice for saving energy. If you do not ahve a home yet, pick up some of the energy saving light bulbs that all utility companies offer for free! Leave your AC on when needed, and program it in cycles when you're not at home. There are appliances, lights, computers that can be turned off or on low to conserve energy. When you do get that dream home, your mindset will be energy saving and hopefully cost savings on solar energy!

Whatever your decision. do your homework. Study solar energy, its benefits, non-benefits, the pros and cons. Ask yourself, will it become a necessity in the future? Should I just invest in it now? Do not jump into it blindly. Remember, knowledge is power. Use it to your advantage.<bio> This text is a link to a page on the World Wide Web.</bio>

Want a Home Solar Energy System?

The thought of not relying on the local power company for electricity, saving all that money in the process by using your won home solar energy system is quite interesting to me. They call this being "off the grid". It is really a feeling of independence, in a way that puts the environment back in our hands, almost like the early settlers of our country.

When you own your own home solar energy system, that makes you independent and free. Just think about as if you were embarking on a whole new frontier like Lewis and Clark, except in the arena of solar energy. You own your own electricity. I mean the sun isn't going to send you a bill, is it?

The home solar energy system can be costly up front. Perhaps that is a problem for you. Some can afford to have a professional install the home solar energy system for them, others will have to install it on their own, if they can. Some will have to install their home solar energy system piece by piece. If you are having trouble financing such a solar system here is a place to go to, http://www1.eere.energy.gov/solar/related_links_financing.html

If you are looking to convert your home over into using a home solar energy system you can. It may take time but use the available information resources from your local state government's office to provide such info. Don't let cost and inexperience wish away a great opportunity to help the environment and get your independence back, at least in this area.

Try Home Made Solar Energy

There are a lot of benefits to home made solar energy and when we say home made solar energy we mean the kind of systems installed by professionals but made for your home. If you do not have home made solar energy yet, consider converting your home to solar energy. When you have converted over you will notice the difference between the cost from what you had with the local power company to the cost of home solar energy. The difference in your bill and the environment will speak for itself.

Solar energy in the home is a win win situation. You are doing the environment a favor as well as increasing the influence for others to have solar energy homes. In this day of energy conservation and concern for the effect that human activity is having on our planet you want to get a home made solar energy system installed and let your wallet and help our environment relax a little.

Converting your home to solar energy is costly. But the overall cost in the long run will make your new home made solar energy home be free of local electricity, saving you money and making you money because you can store excess power and resell it back to the local grid as they call it..

Which would you rather have, a solar energy system for your home, or the local power company making electricity the old fashioned way that will continue to omit harmful gases into the atmosphere?

Using home made solar energy is a great way to save money and the environment at the same time. If more people took the initiative to convert their home to solar energy this world would become a cleaner place.<bio>This text is a link to a page on the World Wide Web.</bio>

Passive Solar Energy

Solar panels can be used to create the type of solar energy that does not require mechanical aid called passive solar energy. This type of technology uses sunlight to provide heating and cooling of water and air. This is quite interesting in that the very design and location of a home will be based on this technology. The altitude of the sun in winter and summer, and the geographical location of your home, are all variables in utilizing passive solar energy. One example of passive solar energy would be a sunroom, or commonly called a solarium.

Passive solar energy can be used based on the construction of a house to supply energy for heat, and to cool your home. Heat is ventilated into your home after storage. You can also heat your water using passive solar energy.

It has been noted that solar panels used to generate passive solar energy to heat water generate more power than those used for generating electricity. Maybe we should call passive solar energy, straight sun power - uncensored.

The trick to passive solar energy is that it doesn't have to convert solar energy into electricity, thus losing a certain amount of energy in the process. What you're left with is a more efficient heating and cooling system than you would have if you converted solar energy into electricity and then used that solar energy for your water heater, A/C, electric heat registers, and other such appliances.

However, you may want to complement the cooling aspect of this system with a dehumidifier or two, to take the humidity out of the air, which can make the cooling feel a lot more efficient, or you may even want to have an air conditioner for back up for particularly hot days that reach degrees in the three digits. People in Texas and Nevada, Arizona, will need this.

Solar panels will cover about 1/3 the total square feet of your home. Whether you are using panels for passive solar energy or solar energy for electricity, or both, the cost savings is worth it. In time it will pay for the initial cost of installation.

Installing your home solar energy system right the first time with aid of a professional will position you to enjoy free energy safe for the environment and beneficial to your family. Not to mention, increase the value of your home.

As always I like to remind everyone that although the cost may be high at first, there is financial aid and breaks available from your local state. Just log on and search for solar power financial aid. There are great incentives given due to the ever increasing awareness of the condition of our environment. These incentives are much like the ones for owning an electric car.

So, we hope that you have been given something to think about as you consider using solar energy for your home. After all the sun is going to shine and not bill you for its services. The only initial charge is the upfront installation of the system itself.<bio>This text is a link to a page on the World Wide Web.</bio>

With all the information we hear on a daily basis about dangerous ultraviolet rays and the threat of skin damage as a result of overexposure to the sun, it's no wonder that we're a little wary of this omnipresent star. But, the truth is, we can't survive without the sun. And in addition to the warmth it provides our planet, it also holds a wealth of energy; energy that we can use to power our life in an efficient and environmentally responsible way.

A solar heater literally harnesses the energy of the sun. The sun's core holds enormous energy in the form of radiation; the energy that reaches the earth is considered solar energy. Our ability to convert this solar energy into usable, every day energy such as heat and electricity, may one day transform the planet. For now, solar energy continues to be largely experimental among homeowners.

In the case of a solar heater, we literally "collect" the solar energy that makes its way to earth. Flat plate collectors are thin panels that trap, store, and convert solar energy. They are most often placed on the roofs of homes so that their exposure to the sun is consistent. When the sun hits the flat plate collector the solar energy is contained inside and used to heat coils within the collector. These coils heat the surrounding air and the warmed air is pushed through vents to the entire home.

Another style of solar heater is the concentrating collector. A concentrating collector =96 rather than an immobile unit =96 moves its panels to follow the sun. Clearly, a design of this type gathers quite a bit more solar energy and is thereby more efficient. Those larger structures that are using solar energy find this type of solar heater far more effective for their purposes.

The greatest benefit of the solar heater =96 in addition to its enormous environmental impact and efficiency =96 is the future it promises. A solar heater that heats one home today can mean a future of exclusive solar power; the possibilities are hard to imagine. <bio>For easy to understand, in depth information about heaters visit our ezGuide 2 http://heaters.ezguide2.com </bio>

Basically, solar power is energy that is actually harnessed from the sun. Although the sun is millions of miles away from earth, if we had the ability to harness all the energy coming from the sun, there is more than enough power there to provide all the energy we need for the entire earth. In fact, there is enough energy to provide plenty of energy for 10,000 earths. While you can use solar power for a variety of appliances and other items, you have to realize that this is different than using this power to produce heat.

There are two different principles that are used with solar power. If you want to produce hot air or hot fluids, then solar thermal principles are used. However, if you want to product electricity, photovoltaic principles are used instead. If you want to produce solar power, there are four components that are needed, including a battery, a charge controller, a solar panel, and an inverter.

It is the solar panels that actually get the radiation from the sun and use it to charge up the battery. Then, the charge regulator actually makes sure that the battery charges as it should. Of course, probably the most important pieces of equipment are going to be the solar panels and usually they output energy in watts. These panels can be wired in a variety of ways, although usually parallel or series wiring is done to either increase the amperage or the voltage.

So, are there benefits to using solar power? Yes! There are a variety of amazing benefits to using solar power. In fact, many people all over the world are already using this type of energy to supply their electricity. Some of the benefits are as follows:

- Creation of new hi-tech jobs - Protection of the environment - Solar power is abundant, free and renewable - Fuel supply is diverse - Rapid and cheap deployment

As long as the sun is hanging there in the sky, we will be able to have the energy that solar power produces. In fact, there is so much energy there, more than 10,000 times the amount of energy we need is available. You should learn as much as possible about solar power so that you will know about the great benefits offered and how your life will change for the better if you decide to go with solar power instead of using other energy sources.

CONCLUSION

Whether you have a business or a home, you'll find that solar power can offer many advantages for both. Solar power is one of several alternative fuel energy sources that is cheap and renewable. From a business perspective this can add to the bottom line tremendously. From the home perspective using this can cut down on expenses. Since solar power is friendly to the environment, you will not have to worry about toxins or pollutants from this type of energy and you won't have to worry about the issue of global warming either. <bio>Milton Barnes makes it easy to use solar lighting quickly and easily.
After the last couple of summers we have experienced, the idea of solar power being used effectively in the UK to create power may not seem to be a great idea, with our continually cloudy skies is solar power really a viable option to the average homeowner in the UK. The idea or myth that you need blue skies for solar energy to be effective, probably arises, because although people in general understand the basics of how solar panels work they probably do not understand the intricacies of how solar power is produced. I will hopefully dispell a couple of these myths in the article.

1st Myth: You need blue skies with the sun high in the sky.

Blue skies in the UK doesn't seem to happen that often, but, let me ask you this have you ever been to the beach on a cloudy day, and been sunburnt at the end of the day. At the same time you are getting burnt by the suns energy, solar panels can be collecting this energy. This will be less than the amount of energy you would collect on a sunny day, but as long as their is a degree of sunlight, the panels will continue to collect the sun's energy. This energy can then be stored in batteries, solar modules, and then used in the evening to provide power to a home.

2nd Myth: We don't get enough sunlight in the UK

Over the course of a year, on average, the UK experiences 2.5 hours of sunlight a day that can be used to produce energy. Not very much, but with current technology it is more than enough to handle the power demands of the average home without fully draining the solar modules. The methods and technologies used in storing and gathering the solar energy are also continually improving which will allow for even greater demands on the stored energy.

An average solar panel can capture 15 to 20% of the energy collected, again this looks like a low figure, but it is enough to power an average home during a cloudy day, without having to dip into the battery power. Storing the energy in solar modules allows future use of the energy and is easily expanded by adding to the number of panels and modules.

Solar energy is still a relatively new resource in our search for alternative energy options. While the concept of solar power has made some great advances in the past thirty years or so, the next decade should see a number of technological improvements. These new innovations will make the harnessing of the suns rays even more viable as a means of not only safe and clean power to our homes. As we continue to refine the process of using solar energy, perhaps we can also rid ourselves of some of the misinformation about solar energy that has become part of our public consciousness in the UK.
There is something misleading about the name "Solar Power." All forms of energy is derived from the sun some way or the other. Without the sun, there would be no life on earth, as the sun provides the energy that sustains all plant and animal life. Like all technologies and systems, solar power, too, has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of solar power, by far, outweigh its disadvantages.

The Advantages of Solar Energy

Solar energy saves you money, period. Once you recover the cost of installing the equipment, there is no running cost as the energy from the sun is 100 percent free. Since production of solar energy does not require any fuel, you aren't affected by its supply and demand, or the ever-increasing price of gasoline.

Solar energy is clean, renewable and sustainable, and so protects the environment in a number of days. Unlike gas, coal, and oil, the supply of solar energy is renewable, though only for the next 4.5 billion years. Unlike more traditional forms of electricity generation, it doesn't pollute the environments with carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide or mercury. We would be healthier if more people get their energy from solar power.

Since solar energy doesn't release any pollutants into the air, it does 'ot contribute to global warming. Rather, it contributes to the decrease in emissions of greenhouse gases. Solar power systems can operate independently, without any dependence on a power or a gas grid. Not only does solar energy reduce your electricity bill, it is available at all times and is not affected by power outages.

The solar energy systems are practically maintenance free. Once installed, they can last for decades, with no recurring costs. They are silent in operation and do not create any offensive smells. If your electric needs increase, extra panels can be added to the existing system.

The Disadvantages of Solar Energy

The main disadvantage of solar energy systems is their initial installation costs, as the semi-conducting materials are expensive. To achieve a good level of efficiency, solar panels require a large area for installation. The location of the sun also affects the efficiency of the system, but this is overcome by installation of extra components--an added cost.

Pollution in the air, as well as the presence of clouds, affects the production of solar energy. There is no production of solar energy at night. However, this can be taken care of with a battery backup system or net metering. Net metering is a scheme, available in 40 states and Washington D.C., through which your utility company buys the extra energy that your solar energy system produces from you, building up a credit on your account. If you need to buy some of this back, you might break even. <bio>http://www.real-estate-magazine.com http://www.tech-tips-now.com </bio>

The most exact definition of Solar Energy is plainly -- "the energy from the sun". It is a term used to classify the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the sun and intercepted by the Earth. It is the world's most permanent and reliable source of energy and the most copious.

The uses of solar energy on earth include solar heating for buildings, solar heat for manufacturing or industry and electricity production. So what is solar energy? How does it affect us?

Solar energy is responsible for weather systems and ocean currents. It provides light, heat, and energy to all living things on Earth. It has many uses. It supplies electricity; it can be used to power cars.

Solar energy is also used as a power for satellites in space and in space shuttles. It could also power boats, generators during emergencies, toys, and even security systems.

The amount of solar energy that the earth receives is about 770 trillion kilowatts (kW), an amount 5,000 times bigger than the sum of all other energy, may it be terrestrial nuclear energy, geothermal energy or gravitational energy.

There are two types of solar energy. These are:

1. Thermal Energy 2. Electric Energy

What is the difference between the two types energy?

Thermal energy is kinetic energy. It is everywhere. It makes the earth hot and even heats up our homes. It helps us to dry our clothes. It is used as well to heat up water for household use or even pools. That is why thermal energy is called the heat energy because it is stored in the center of the earth as well.

Electric energy is widely known to us as the electricity. It is an essential part of nature and it is one of our most widely used forms of energy. This uses sunlight to power ordinary electrical equipment, such as household appliances, computers, and lighting.

Most applications of solar energy depend on systems including collectors, storage and controls. Storage is needed for a reason that solar energy is only available at daylight hours, but the demand for energy is needed both day and night. Controls are used to guarantee that the storage system works safely and efficiently.

The accessibility of solar energy is determined by three factors:

• The location is usually measured by latitude, longitude and altitude. • The time. • The weather.

Aside from knowing that solar energy is a free energy still, you have to realize that it also has advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages are:

• Solar energy is almost limitless; it will be available for as long as there are still humans in the earth. • It is abundant. You will not worry of running out of it. • It could provide more power than all known fossil fuel reserves. • Solar energy is available during the day when electricity usage is really important. • It is the most inexhaustible, renewable source of energy known to man. • Solar energy can be absorbed, reflected, transmitted, and insulated. • It can be collected and stored in batteries.

The disadvantages are:

• It is not suitable in cloudy areas. • It is not available at night time. • And it may require large land areas.

As a reminder, solar energy levels are lesser the farther north the site. Considering geography, season is an important determinant of solar energy levels because the Sun's position and the weather vary greatly from summer to winter. <bio>If man can harness the power of the sun the opportunities are limitless. Solar energy has so much potential that we owe it to ourselves to explore this awesome source of power.
The elements of nature have been created for man alone. Every single need can be acquired and it is present in nature around us. Man only needs to travel and explore the hidden treasures of nature and use them for the fulfillment of his basic needs of life. Something that doesn't need any searching shines up above in the sky. The sun is the basic source of life on earth. If there was no sun no life would have been possible.

Sun emits light which is known as the solar energy and you may have heard and studied about solar energy being used for thousands of purposes. This energy has been used for heating systems and thermal power plants are run through solar energy and so on. When you read or hear about these things you simply pass on because this is too common.

When it comes to solar powered cars it is very likely that you stop and think for a while. It is a promising future prospect and you wish you live long enough to see only solar powered cars racing down the streets, no running out gas, no waiting at the filling station, no more paying for the petrol. Imagine how quickly you would be able to increase your standard of living.

Solar powered cars have been in existence since the mid of the 19th century. They have been increasing in number year by year and organizations tend to hold solar powered car racing each year and thousands of people invest their money and bet on their solar powered cars. The mechanism of these cars is very simple. The batteries installed in these light bodied cars charge themselves from the solar energy. Then this energy is converted by them into electrical energy thus it helps the motor run.

Now this prospect is very simple or more likely it sounds very simple and trouble free. The sun shines everyday and there doesn't seem to be any such problem with these cars. But the fact is that the amount of energy stored at a time by these cars enables them to drive at a very slow pace. The road has to be leveled and not steep because that requires even more energy. It will need more powerful batteries and more storage capacity.

Have you never noticed that this is the reason why solar powered cars are small; light weighed, and can carry one person at a time? There are many technical facts that render the concept of these cars as vague. <bio>Jonathon Hardcastle writes articles for http://worldofautomotives.com/ - In addition, Jonathon also writes articles for http://supershoppingtips.com/ and http://recreationsource.net/ </bio>

Solar energy facts for kids in New Zealand are considered unnecessary by some. When winter hovers over New Zealand, it may seem that day after day is cloudy and grey =96 especially in some parts of New Zealand. On such days, it is difficult to imagine that solar energy could supply enough electricity for a New Zealand home. Most areas of New Zealand, however, have plenty of solar energy that can be harnessed.

Solar energy can be calculated with a map such as the one on the Sun Wize website. This is called a world solar insolation map. "Insolation" means it is exposed to the sun's rays. The map shows how many hours of each day a country is exposed to the sun's rays - in the worst month of the year. In other words, the map shows how much solar energy the country gets each day.

When you find New Zealand on a world solar insolation map, you will see that most of the country gets between 3 and 5 hours of solar energy each day. Remember that 3 to 5 hours is the amount of solar energy in the worst month! On average, counting good and bad days, New Zealand gets approximately 2000 hours of bright sunshine each year.

Solar Energy Facts for Kids

Solar energy facts for kids might include many things, depending on the age of the children involved. A small child of 6 years might understand only simple concepts such as the heat generated by solar energy. Older children of 14 to 17 can grasp the technology of solar panels and generators, and how they convert solar energy to electrical power.

We will not attempt to sort the following facts by age or importance, but simply present them as a collection of ideas to be explored.

* In New Zealand, a solar energy water heating system can save as much as 75 per cent of your family's water heating costs.

* The word "photovoltaic" comes 2 words. "Photo" refers to light and "voltaic" refers to electricity. A photovoltaic array system changes solar energy collected from sunlight into electricity.

* Cover the roofs of every New Zealand home in photovoltaic (PV) panels, and together they would convert enough solar energy into power each year to supply more than 25 per cent of New Zealand's needed electricity.

* Solar energy can provide the total electricity needed by a normal three bedroom New Zealand home that is energy efficient.

* Solar energy is quiet, easy to install, and needs little upkeep from the New Zealand home owner.

* Any New Zealand child can, with a little help, build a solar energy stove to cook a small banger.

* Solar energy has been used for many years by New Zealand mums to dry clothing outdoors.

* Germany, a country that is much cloudier than New Zealand, converts solar energy into electricity more than any other country does.

* Solar energy is greater than you might think on cloudy days, since the sunlight that gets through reflects off the bottoms of the clouds.

* Solar energy can turn ocean water into healthy drinking water.

* Solar energy can be used on boats and ships around New Zealand.

* Solar energy is absolutely free to New Zealanders. No other country can charge money for it.

Suggestion for New Zealand teachers: Have a contest to see which group of students can discover the most solar energy facts for kids. Younger children will have fun simply listing solar energy facts for kids. Older students might be required to expand each discovery statement.

Disclaimer: The author receives no compensation from any company mentioned in this article.
Solar energy is frequently used in residential homes to heat water. This is an easy application, as the desired end result (hot water) is the storage facility. Solar energy is also relatively weak because it must first pass through the atmosphere, which protects the Earth from the sun's intensity. As such, the intermittent and variable manner in which solar energy arrives on the Earth's surface means it creates reliability problems. Solar energy is produced at the core of the sun by nuclear fusion. This energy is then radiated to the convection zone, where mixing transfers the energy to the photosphere.

Photovoltaic energy is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. A photovoltaic cell, commonly called a solar cell or PV, is the technology used to convert solar energy directly into electrical power. Photovoltaic solar energy is produced when the sun's energy, in the form of photons, strikes a photovoltaic cell and is transmitted to electrons within the semiconductor material in the PV cell, causing an electrical current. Each photovoltaic cell generates only a small amount of energy, so many cells are grouped together into a module; then several modules are combined to form a solar panel. Photovoltaic energy systems cost an average of $12,000 to $18,000 per kilowatt, according to data from Solar Services Inc. The price goes down per kilowatt installed.

Solar energy is an easy source of renewable energy to harness for home use. There are many residential solar power systems of different sizes which absorb and store different levels of energy. Solar energy is derived ultimately from the sun. It can be divided into direct and indirect categories. Solar energy is also often used to heat water (a solar collector is mounted in direct sunlight, which warms a heat transfer fluid, which in turn heats the water in your hot water tank).

Solar energy is the energy force that sustains life on the earth for all plants, animals, and people. The earth receives this radiant energy from the sun in the form of electromagnetic waves, which the sun continually emits into space. Solar energy is produced by solar cells, which are also known as photovoltaic devices. The cells are flat structures that absorb the solar energy in sunlight to produce electrical energy. Solar energy is the technology used to harness the sun's energy and make it useable. Today, the technology produces less than one tenth of one percent of global energy demand.

Solar energy is inexhaustible and nonpolluting, but converting solar radiation to electricity is not yet commercially competitive, because of the high cost of producing large-scale solar cell arrays and the inherent inefficiency in converting light to electricity. Solar energy is a highly reliable and proven technology for producing clean energy at your home. A good quality professionally installed solar PV system is likely to outlast the rest of your home. Solar energy is on the rise, and new developments will hopefully keep taking place in order to make this energy form as efficient and cost effective as possible. Take the importance of clean, renewable energy into consideration as you go to the polls this year.

Solar energy is cost effective in terms of fuel (because no fuel is required) and its price would not be affected by the supply and demand of fuels. Solar energy is also pollution free.<bio>Julie Landry runs an Earth4Energy site which talks about Earth 4 Energy, the most popular manual for building your own solar power and wind power generator at home.
2008 is the Year of Solar Energy, According to New ChangeWave Survey

"Keep your face to the sunshine..." -- Helen Keller

No matter where you look, alternative energy is the topic du jour. Driven by the economics of record-high crude oil, the spotlight is shifting to non-traditional renewable energy sources, particularly solar power.

But while solar stocks were some of the biggest gainers for much of last year, recently the solar power industry has taken big hits =96 with several key leaders such as First Solar (FLSR) SunPower (SPWR) and Evergreen Solar (ESLR) down as much as 50% off their 52 week highs.

To find out what's going on with solar energy and the other renewable energy sources, we recently surveyed 182 respondents working directly in the alternative energy industry.

Solar Leads

Solar energy continues to show the most momentum of all alternative energy segments, according to industry respondents. Not only has it shown strong gains since our previous survey in February 2007, but it also leads in each of the following areas:

=95 Most Rapid Economic Growth =96 Past 12 Months: When asked which alternative energy sector has experienced the fastest growth over the past year, solar energy (49%) topped the list =96 up a whopping 14-pts since our previous survey in February. In comparison, Biomass =96 including biofuels and bio-products =96 came in at 41%.

=95 Most Rapid Economic Growth =96 Next 12-24 Months: Going forward, respondents see solar energy (58%; up 20-pts) as experiencing the most rapid growth in the industry for the next one-to-two years.

=95Most Momentum =96 Next 5 Years: Over the long term, solar energy also retains its strength, as 31% of respondents (up 5-pts) say it will be the top sector for the next half decade.

In sum, solar energy leads all of the other major alternative energy categories in terms of rapid economic growth.

Solar energy is also seen as experiencing the biggest technology breakthroughs (27%; up 2-pts). But perhaps most importantly, solar cells are expected to be affordable enough to achieve a competitive return on investment within seven years (by 2015).

(Detailed charts, along with additional ChangeWave Solar Industry survey findings, can be downloaded at http://www.changewave.com/energy).

"Demand for solar cells is unquestionably robust, the price of oil is trending higher, and solar tax credits will likely be extended," according to ChangeWave Analyst Josh Levine. The forces are all lining up exceptionally well for the solar industry. It's the right time for investors to be exposed to the sun and invest in solar stocks."

According to solar industry experts, the sector's growth is being propelled forward by global photovoltaics manufacturers like First Solar (FSLR), SunPower Corp. (SPWR) and SunTech Power Holdings (STP) - companies that have developed superior business models and excelled in project management.

Levine adds that the next big challenge for the solar industry is the scaling of production facilities for mass production at the gigawatt level. "The next generation of leaders will be those companies that are best equipped to leverage the latest innovations in materials research through manufacturing know-how," he said.

Clearly, solar energy has the momentum in our latest ChangeWave survey. We'll continue tracking solar energy and other non-traditional energy sources in the alternative energy industry for new opportunities in 2008. <bio>The ChangeWave expert research network is composed of 15,000 highly qualified professionals.
Solar power is not a new concept by any means. It has been used for many years in such things as calculators and even by swimming pools for heating the water. But the use of solar power for automobiles is still a relatively new method of study. Solar power is a natural means of energy that is given off everyday. If it could somehow be utilized in the proper way, it may prove to be an efficient source of power. The race to discover the best fuel alternative is on as science continues to seek a better way.

Solar power is really nothing more than the energy that is given off by the sun. The key is finding the right means of trapping it and making it useful for other purposes. Solar powered grids are often used to attract the sunlight and absorb the sun's energy. It can then be transmitted to the object that needs to be powered.

It may come as a surprise to some consumers to learn that science has been studying solar powered vehicle options for years already. Many solar powered cars are very small and not ideal for today's market. But with increasing amounts of study this possibility might become a reality sooner than we think. Scientists have even been racing their solar powered creations in order to see how they hold up.

Solar powered options have been considered for today's current vehicles. Mazda once created a sunroof that was solar powered. It was designed to keep the inside of the car warm when it was not running and the temperature outside grew cold. These innovations are just a hint of what might be right around the corner.

One of the most obvious concerns regarding a solar powered car is what one would do if the clouds cover the sun. Normally, that would result in the loss of power and the car would come to a stop. And that certainly is not realistic in rush hour morning traffic. To fix this problem, a backup battery is included to automatically take over when the sun is absent.

For using a solar powered car, the energy from the sun would have to be diverted to both the backup battery as well as running the car. Otherwise, there wouldn't be enough energy to cover both facets. This could be seen as a serious disadvantage of a solar powered car.

Another drawback of using solar power as a fuel alternative is that it has to be converted after it comes from the sun. It just cannot be done direct. This might include added costs just to obtain the energy needed to power both the car and backup battery.

The solar cars that are currently in use by science for study are nothing like today's cars. You cannot get in them and they are very low to the ground. It is virtually improbable to see this get on the market. However, if the idea behind this model could be upgraded to fit the cars of today, it may be a worthy possibility.<bio>Enjoy your family and find the best deal on the auto insurance coverage you need.
After the success of Solar One - the world's first large-scale thermal solar power plant - and its update, Solar Two, Europe has now entered into the race for sustained solar power.

Solar Tres, located West of Ejica in the Andalusia district of Spain, has been modeled on the Solar One and Two projects, which were developed and updated in the Marstow Desert, California, in 1981 and 1995. Like its American predecessor, Solar Tres will produce energy through heliostats: large mirror assemblies that track and reflect the sun's rays throughout the day. From there, it is bounced onto a central column, named the 'Solar Power Tower', which absorbs and stores the energy, to be converted into thermal power.

What marks Solar Tres above its prototypes is that it uses molten salt as its conducting fluid, so that the energy can be stored in molten form and converted at any time. It means that the new European Solar Power Tower can be operational 24 hours a day, allowing for greater energy storage and conversion, and it outstrips its US counterparts, which ran on oils, and so had a lower capacity for storage after conversion.

It also looks to expand on the size of Solar One and Two, with a heliostat field that is three times larger than Solar Two at its optimum. It means that Solar Tres has a potential capacity of 15MW, where Solar One and Two could reach a maximum of 10MW. Not only can it run more efficiently, then - working right round the clock - but its output is greater, allowing for sustainable energy that is produced more quickly and in abundance.

By all intents and purposes, it is a larger and more ambitious project. With the backing of the EU Commission, who have provided 5 million Euro through the EU 5th Frame program, it has the potential to move thermal solar power into the competitive energy markets.

After the relative success of the original US Power Tower Plants, the improvements to Solar Tres mean a bold step towards sustainable energy in the world at large. With a project of this scale, it signals a move from personal sustainability initiatives - the efforts made, from individuals to family units - to a potentially full-fledged commercial representation of universal solar power in the community.

It now means that two of the world's major political powers - The US, and the EU - are committing themselves to the importance of sustainable energy. Whilst Solar One and Two are now closed, they represent important first examples of what Solar Tres can now make possible.

And that is not to say that the US have abandoned the pursuit; upon the closure of the original Solar One and Two site in 2001, they commenced production of Nevada Solar One, which became operational in 2007, and boasts a maximum production capacity of 75MW. With three major Solar Power Tower Plants built since 1995, moves to a genuine production of solar power are being implemented on both sides of the Atlantic. Sustainable energy is a real possibility. Let's hope other nations follow suit.<bio>Chris Woolfrey is the solar panels expert at www.EcoSwitch.com The environmental social network EcoSwitch</bio>

Solar panels seem to be an excellent way to generate less costly electrical power. They seem a good way to heat water, as well as the air inside homes.

Solar panels and the IRS should be friends, since the government purports to be seeking alternative energy sources. The U.S. government should give tax credit to those who invest in solar panels. But does it?

The value of solar panels in the IRS' eyes is shown in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 for Individuals. In 2006, inflation adjustment figures were given, but the act remains basically the same.

Energy Policy Act of 2005 for Individuals (EPACT) - Summary

Individuals can make energy-conscious purchases, and receive tax benefits for doing so. The law provides tax credits for making your principal residence, which must be in the U.S., more energy efficient. It also gives tax credits for buying specified energy-efficient items, including alternative motor vehicles such as hybrids.

Solar panels, says IRS, will earn tax credits if they are on your main home, and that home is in the U.S.

Most of EPACT remains in effect throughout 2007. Many think it will be renewed or expanded in 2008.

Detail Regarding Solar Panel Tax Credits

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 makes a tax credit available to those who add qualified solar panels to their homes in the U.S. The IRS allows one credit equal to 30 percent of the qualified investment in a solar panel up to a maximum $2,000 credit. The IRS also allows an equal credit for investing in a solar water heating system. You could credit of up to $4,000, $2,000 for solar panels, and $2,000 for solar water heating.

Whether you add solar panels or a solar water heating system, you cannot use any part of it to heat a hot tub or swimming pool.

Solar panels, for IRS tax credit qualification, must be placed in service between December 31, 2005 and January 1, 2008.

State Rebates or Tax Incentives and the IRS

You may find that your solar panels are eligible for state rebates or tax incentives. Your state's energy office website may have more information on that. If your state or utility does give incentives for installing solar panels, the IRS tax credit applies to the basis remaining after you have taken state incentives.

Example: Your $10,000 solar panel array receives $5,000 in state tax incentives. It would then be eligible for a credit equal to 30 percent of $5,000. Your Federal IRS tax credit would be $1,500.

To locate any tax incentives your state may offer, simply search on the state name with the words solar incentive, without quotation marks.

Wouldn't a Tax Deduction Be Better than a Tax Credit?

Normally speaking, a tax deduction is less valuable to you than the same amount of tax credit. A tax deduction takes away a percentage of the tax you owe the IRS. But a tax credit reduces your tax, dollar-for-dollar.

Solar Panels absent IRS Credits

Even if EPACT had not been signed into law, and the IRS offered no tax credits, solar panel installation could still be a wise investment. Many find that a solar panel array pays for itself within 3 to 4 years. They then save money on electricity for many years with little maintenance.

So, while tax credits are welcome, you may still want to do more research into the potential savings of solar panels.

Disclaimer: Please note that the author is not a tax professional and cannot offer you tax advice.
With zero emissions, solar cars present a sunny solution to eco-friendly car buyers. It also makes good sense to develop a green car technology that doesn't call for a complicated infrastructure or any type of fueling station. What could be easier than using an already existing energy source like the Sun, right? After all it was around since the beginning of the solar system, well before fossil fuel. If it were only that simple, we'd probably already have done it. In spite of universities and corporations building solar cars every year for the past 20 years for the annual Australian World Solar Challenge solar car race, we're not quite there yet.

How do they work?

A solar car is really an electric vehicle powered by solar energy. Photovoltaic (PV) cells in the form of solar panels convert sunlight into electrical energy. The process generates heat, which is converted into electrical energy and stored in an on-board battery. The battery serves the same basic purpose as a gas tank on an internal combustion car.

In spite of the great bounty of sunshine there for the taking, solar car technology is elusive. The solar electric power source needs a lot of PV cells, which are expensive, and the efficiency level of PVs is estimated to be only 10% to 15%. These are daunting challenges facing engineers, and it's more likely a hybrid solar with another fuel source is the only viable option in the near future, yet the concept is intriguing enough for engineers inside and outside universities to take a pure solar car prototype into a more advanced development stage.

Are there any solar cars out there?

French manufacturer Venturi says their solar electric AstroLab hybrid concept car yields an improved PV cell efficiency level of 21%. It's not exactly a family car with its 2-seat tandem cockpit configuration, but it's one possibility. The Hungarian manufacturer Antro has designed a solar gas-electric hybrid other wise known as a tribrid scheduled for production in 2012, and Tesla Motors has an electric car that can be recharged with solar power with 2009 models available in the U.S. and Europe. These are only the first advances in solar car technology. As time goes on more and more manufacturers will be developing and incorporating some type of solar technology into preexisting propulsion systems. This will create a new sort of hybrid, disconnected from fossil fuels, yet still not fully reliant on the Sun's energy

Perhaps with the recent high intensity photvoltaic cells designed by a company in Israel, many of the energy efficiency problems will be taken care of. It is not clear though if they can be designed for cars.

Conclusion

Solar energy and more specifically solar cars would be an amazing advancement in future car technology. They would allow for free travel and nearly unlimited accessibility. Time will tell if all the problems associated with harnessing the world's oldest energy source can be dealt with. If the hurdles can be passed then for sure solar cars will be the wave of the future.<bio>Andrew Beckers writes about information helpful to humanity.
Solar energy is a natural source of energy that comes directly from the sun. When solar energy hits the earth it spreads over the earth's surface and provides warmth evenly. If you could capture the sun's rays into a particular area for a long period of time it would provide enough warmth for nighttime or on cloudy days. Learning where to find solar energy can help you to get started today. Solar energy does not cost anything because it comes from the sun. The source that you choose may cost some but in the long run it should be your only expense, unlike gas or oil heaters that you continue to pay for monthly in order to have power or gas heat in your home. Solar power can provide heating, cooling and ventilation.

If you want to make your own solar power to capture the energy for heating its easy to do if you can find a solar collector, which is anything that attracts the heat from the sun in a concentrated amount, such as glass or clear plastic. Getting into your car that has sat out in the hot sun all day long can be extremely hot and you have to roll down your windows to cool it off inside. That is because the glass has attracted the sun and the objects in your car, including your seats, have trapped the heat not allowing it to escape. When you roll your windows down you are allowing the heat to escape causing your car to cool down. The same thing is true about greenhouses. The glass or clear plastic can attract the sun and not allow it to escape causing the greenhouse to maintain the heat for the plants to grow effectively.

In order to heat your home using solar energy, you need to know the information on a passive and an active home. These two types of solar homes offer the homeowner options to choose from and your cost of heating may be down. Solar energy does not only heat your home but it also heats your water and if you use solar energy lights it can light your home at night.

Passive homes do not use any equipment to heat the home. Passive homes use windows that are made to allow the maximum amount of sunlight into your home. The sunlight is controlled by keeping the doors closed in the hottest part of the day not allowing any heat to escape. At night thick curtains may be used on these windows so that the warmth stays inside during the night. This allows the sun to naturally heat your home without any help.

Active homes do use equipment to help circulate the heat in the home. Some of the equipment that may be used includes pumps, blowers and an alternative heating source in case the sunlight was not enough during the daytime. In order to heat the home with sunlight these homes use special boxes on the outside that attract the sunrays to it. They are made from a dark colored metal to help attract the sun more. The water or air that is carried in the pipes and ductwork is heated by this glass box that has captured the sunlight. Then the heated water or air is then carried to the rest of the home.

In the long run, solar energy helps to heat the home naturally and without depending on a company to supply it for you. Solar energy can be found anywhere the sun is. <bio>Atila runs an informative site about solar power and solar energy at http://www.online-article-library.info/solar-power/ .
Solar power harnesses the sun's heat and light emissions. It is the power we get from converting the sun's energy. The energy of the sun is abundant, clean, and environmentally friendly. Every day, we receive more energy from the sun than the entire world could use in 27 years! Solar power is highly renewable, as the energy from the sun is estimated to last another 4.5 billion years.

The basic difference between generation of solar power and the conventional power is:

• Solar power doesn't need large, polluting power stations • Solar power can be generated at home and in industries • Once installed, there is no further need of any raw materials to generate solar power

Converting the Sun's Energy

There are many different ways of converting the sun's energy, in the form of light, into electricity. Photovoltaic cells, more commonly known as solar cells, are made of semi-conductors. These energy converters convert the energy in sunlight into electricity. Sunlight, which is a stream of energy particles--photons--falls on the semi-conductors or the conductors and transfers its energy to them. The photons transfer their energy as they hit the silicon atoms in the solar cells, thereby releasing the electrons from their orbit around the nucleus, generating electricity.

To help concentrate the sunlight on a small area of photovoltaic cells, Fresnel lenses, mirrors, and mirrored dishes are used as concentrators. A Fresnel lens consists of concentric rings of segmental lenses with a short focal length. Multiple solar cells are combined to make a solar panel. For protection of these solar cells, glass, with an anti-reflective coating, is used as a cover. Solar panels usually produce 12 or 24 volts of DC power.

Boiling Fluids -- Mirrors or reflective surfaces are used to concentrate the sun's energy onto a fluid reservoir. This leads to steam generation by boiling the fluid, which in turn spins a turbine to generate electricity. Using a turbine to generate electricity is similar to the conventional way of power generation, except that solar energy is used in place of non-renewable fossil fuels. Either DC or AC electric power can be generated using turbines.

Heat Engine -- The heat engine, the most common one being a Stirling engine, has a gas- enclosed compartment. Through mirrors or reflective surfaces, the sunlight is concentrated on the engine, which heats the gas. This causes a piston to move, which runs the generator. The gas gets cooled and returns to go through the heating cycle again. These heat engines are silent. Depending on the generator, they can produce either DC or AC current. <bio>http://www.real-estate-magazine.com http://www.tech-tips-now.com </bio>
