At least, it wasn't until now, when you came across these great tips for repairing holes in walls. <br /><br /> Tip #1. Determine what <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/size+hole" rel="tag">size hole</a> you are dealing with. Measure the hole and determine the method as follows: small holes, such as <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/nail+holes" rel="tag">nail holes</a> only need a patching with joint compound. Sand it smooth after it has dried. For somewhat larger holes, about the size of a deck of cards, you will need to place a filler such as newspaper in it for a surface for the compound to adhere to. Medium <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/sized+holes" rel="tag">sized holes</a> (about 3 inches by 3 inches) need a hot patch, which is a piece of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/drywall" rel="tag">drywall</a> applied by leaving a patch on each side. Very large holes, over 3 inches in diameter have to be treated just as a new wall. Remove nails and screws and cut a piece of drywall, secure it in place and then tape, compound and sand it just as you would a new wall. <br /><br /> Tip #2. Get all of your tools and supplies ready before you start. Repairing wall holes requires quick work, so you don't want to be looking around for supplies in the middle of the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/job" rel="tag">job</a>. If the hole requires more than just a compound patching, you will need to have newspapers, drywall material, tape, trowels, etc. on hand before you start. <br /><br /> Tip #3. Apply just enough <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/spackle" rel="tag">spackle</a> or compound. Excess will take longer to dry and be subject to lumping. The rule is to apply as little as possible and add more if necessary, letting it dry and sanding between <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/coats" rel="tag">coats</a>. <br /><br /> Tip #4. Repairing a hole means working Wit spackle or wall compound, and this requires patience. This is not a job to be rushed. Make sure the patching material is fully dry before you sand and repaint. Don't skip coats; if you need to put more than one or two to make sure the hole is filled and covered, do so. It will be worth your while to take each step slowly, otherwise the patch will show through and ruin the look of your wall. Use the drying time to clean up your tools and work area. <br /><br /> Tip #5. No matter how smoothly you were able to put the compound on, you have to sand the patch. You may not notice now, but there may be ridges around the edge that will show up once you apply a coat of paint. Nor does it come from feelings of lack and desperation, such that you are dependent upon external factors as if the world owes you anything. Gratitude comes from a realisation, a proper understanding of things, that goes as deep and as true as that of a mother's love for her child. <br /><br /> Thankfulness cannot be faked or forced. You can train a child to say "Thank You" when he is given something good, but you cannot cause him to truly experience <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/deep+feelings" rel="tag">deep feelings</a> of gratitude and appreciation in his heart. <br /><br /> Perhaps this is why grateful people have always been in short supply. Let's say, for the sake of this analogy, she is able to live solely on air. These holes also happen to bring in a little light into her pod. <br /><br /> Abundance is the virtually infinite supply of air that exists as a plenum outside her pod. <br /><br /> Gratitude is the hole that punctures the pod, allowing some air and some light to enter it. <br /><br /> As she lives and breathes in the pod, she is able to notice the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tiny+holes" rel="tag">tiny holes</a> that have been sustaining her throughout her life. As she has been paying attention to only a fixed area of tiny holes, she thinks those are the only holes that exist to nourish her with much needed air, when in truth, tiny holes dot the entire surface area of the pod. <br /><br /> Every day, she lives a life of struggle, constantly panting and heaving and gasping for air, punctuated only occasionally when she musters the courage and effort to place herself close to an area of holes and really suck in the air from outside the pod. <br /><br /> Let's say she is not likely to suffer from asphyxiation because she is able to survive on very minimal amounts of air. <br /><br /> One day, she experiences a breakthrough. During one of those rare moments in which she gets the strength to really suck in air from one of the holes on the pod, she notices that her suction had caused the hole to expand in size, thus, the amount of air that streams in increases. <br /><br /> At first, she ignores this phenomenon. But when the effect happens for a second, and a third time, she sets out to turn her hypothesis into a fact. Soon she discovers that there are actually more holes dotting the surface of the pod than she had realised, because of the increased amount of light that enters due to the increasing size of the hole. So she experiments with the other holes dotting the pod, sucking in the outside air with all her might, until eventually, she has a couple of big holes on her pod that bring in really huge amounts of air and light. <br /><br /> Day by day, she continues this new hole-expanding effort of hers. One day, because of the increasing sizes of the holes and the number of holes that have expanded, the structural integrity of the once solid pod diminishes, and she finds that she can easily, almost effortlessly, rip apart the pod as if it were made of paper - hence, finally liberating herself and transcending into a whole new world of abundance. <br /><br /> Bizarre as this analogy might seem, most of us live like the girl in the pod. There are tiny streams of abundance entering our self-imposed imprisoned life. All it takes is our awareness of these sources of sustenance and abundance and to expand our awareness of them, thus increasing our prosperity in all areas of Life. <br /><br /> Everything is an asset. There are actually several different types of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/velobind+strips" rel="tag">Velobind strips</a> available on the market. It is essential to choose the right supplies for your machine since most of them are not cross compatible. The easiest way to determine the type of <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/velobind+supplies" rel="tag">Velobind supplies</a> that you need is to punch a sheet of paper and count the holes. If there are eleven holes you will need either 11 pin hotknife strips or GBC One Eleven compression <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/binding+strips" rel="tag">binding strips</a>. If you have ten holes you will need GBC Surebind binding strips. The finished side is designed to go on the front of the book while the receiving strip is designed to go on the back of the book. Inserting the comb portion of the strip (the one with the pins) through the pages of your document can be made easier by using the edge of a countertop or table. You can simply hang the binding edge of your book over the edge of the table so that you can see a clear path through the holes on the edge of your document. Hold the document firmly in place with one hand and use your other hand to thread the pins through the holes. This is significantly easier than trying to hold the document in the air when trying to insert the velo comb. <br /><br /><br /><br /> 4. Velobind binding strips are available in sizes up to three inches thick. This means that these systems offer the ability to bind documents that are thicker than any other type of desktop binding system. However, if you are going to want to bind documents using three inch spines you are going to need a Velobind System Three hot knife binding system. Smaller systems will not bind documents with the larger sized spines. <br /><br /><br /><br /> 5. You can actually use your Velobind system to bind hard cover books. You simply need to order custom hard cover cases to use along with your system. These hard cover cases will include a binding case and two adhesive fly leaves. Usually on the selector knob, you will see a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/picture+of+a+hammer" rel="tag">picture of a hammer</a>. Obviously, this is the position you would use for hammering. <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/cordless+hammer+drills" rel="tag">Cordless hammer drills</a> accomplish hammering via gearing. But again, if you are setting anchors or need to drill longer or bigger holes, you owe it to yourself to try a cordless rotary hammer drill.<br><br>If you go on to any commercial job site, you will see cordless <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/rotary+hammer+drills" rel="tag">rotary hammer drills</a> in use. While the cordless hammer drill has that distinctive whine, rotary hammers have a lower tone and you can actually hear the bit hammering. Rotary hammers are actually have a pneumatic hammering system, the tool turns slower, but hits much harder than a cordless hammer drill. The bits for this tool are referred to as sds or sds bits. The shank of the bit is about 3/8" of an inch with two dimples and two grooves. You don't chuck them in, you just snap them into the tool.<br><br>Like the cordless hammer drill, the cordless rotary hammer does well with the smaller bits. The interesting thing with the smaller bits is that the bits will actually last quite a bit longer as the tool doesn't heat up the carbide because it spins slower. When it comes to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/drilling+holes" rel="tag">drilling holes</a> larger than ", the rotary hammer will blow away the cordless hammer drill. Many of these cordless rotary hammers are rated for up to 1" and thin wall core bits. Some of them can even turn off the rotation and you can insert a chisel. You won't believe how hard these tools can hit!<br><br>Now that many of these cordless rotary hammers have gone to lithium, they are going to 36 volts. Talk about a must have these things have great power, run time and are lightweight.<br><br>Keep these simple points in mind when deciding what kind of cordless hammer to by. The cordless hammer drill, in my opinion is really just a tool for the smaller holes. Remember that is my opinion based on what I have seen in the trades over the last 15 years. Even if you are just drilling the smaller holes, give a cordless rotary hammer drill a try. All it takes is a little patience and a dash of creativity! So, gather those old books lying around your household and let the adventure begin. <br /><br /> Napkin Rings <br /><br /> This will surely be a hit in any book lover's party or any book club gathering. This napkin rings are so easy to make that it can be addictive! Prepare the following: old book pages, a 3-mil lamination which can be found in most copy shops, <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/thin+ribbon" rel="tag">thin ribbon</a> of your choice, scissors, and a <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hole+puncher" rel="tag">hole puncher</a>. <br /><br /> When all materials are at hand, the fun of making the napkin rings begin. First, measure a 5"x 2" strip of paper from your old book's page. Choose pages that have interesting prints or characters on it. Laminate and cut it. Be sure to leave a small clear edge of the lamination enough to punch holes about 0.5cm will be ok. Laminating your strips will make it stronger to hold the napkins. Use the 2" side of your <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/paper+strips" rel="tag">paper strips</a> to punch holes. Do it for both ends. One hole in the center and the other holes near the corners. This will serve as your ribbon eyelets. Lace up your ribbons to tie up your napkin rings. <br /><br /> If you want to add a more personal touch to this, you can try to cut some letters out of magazines or colored papers to form your guests' name. Stick it on the middle of your paper strips before laminating and just follow the same steps. Your guests will surely appreciate the effort and you can give it to them as souvenirs. <br /><br /> Candle Holder <br /><br /> This project will make a perfect candle holder for your study or living area. Tape the hole-saw drill bit using the masking tape with the same measurement. This will prevent you from drilling all the way. With the hole-saw bit, drill your holes in the book. You can make 2-3 holes and you can equally or randomly space them, bearing in mind that these will hold your candleholders. Get rid of any excess paper from the holes. Seal the pages together by applying a gel medium to the book's sides, front and back covers. Do not forget to apply gel medium to the holes' bottom and sides for a more finished look. Wrap the drilled books with waxed paper and secure with binder clips. Allow them to dry. Pile other old books and use the drilled ones as the top. Angle books in different directions for a more interesting layer. Put your candle holder and candles and light them up. They are great for any holiday and only limited by your imagination! You can transfer any simple shape onto a tin can to create a beautiful candle holder for any occasion. <br /><br /> I chose to make luminaries for Christmas this year. You can choose any simple design to transfer onto your tin can. I used a favorite <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/clip+art+program" rel="tag">clip art program</a> on my computer to look for easy Christmas designs to print out. I chose a Christmas tree, a snowman, and a pair of gingerbread men. <br /><br /> Here's what you need to get started: <br /><br /> Empty <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/tin+cans" rel="tag">tin cans</a> (washed and labels removed)  Design to transfer onto can  Hammer  Large nail  Tape  <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/dish+towel" rel="tag">Dish towel</a> <br /><br /> It is easiest to punch the holes in your tin can if you freeze some water in it first. Fill the can with water, leaving 1/4 inch space at the top for the ice to expand. Place in <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/freezer" rel="tag">freezer</a> until frozen. Your can may bulge a little at the bottom while in the freezer, but after you remove the ice you can use the hammer to flatten out the bottom of the can. <br /><br /> You might want to freeze a couple more cans then you think you'll need in case you make a mistake and have to start over again. <br /><br /> After the ice has frozen, take the tin can from the freezer and tape your design to the can. I used packing tape, but you can also use duct tape. The tape won't stick to the cold can, but you can wrap the tape all the way around the can so it will stick to the paper. <br /><br /> If you don't have a design on paper, you can also draw a design on the can freehand with a permanent marker. You can also just punch the design freehand without drawing it first. <br /><br /> Lay the can on a folded dish towel so the towel will catch the ice chips that try to escape. It will also hold the can in place. Using the <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/hammer+and+nail" rel="tag">hammer and nail</a>, tap holes around the border of your design, trying to <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/punch+holes" rel="tag">punch holes</a> evenly and not too close together. You want a simple design so that when you see only the holes in the can you will be able to tell what it is! <br /><br /> After punching the holes, remove the paper and tape and admire your design. It is really so easy! If you plan to hang your luminary, also punch two holes at the top of the can. You can make a handle out of wire (from a craft store) or a wire coat hanger. <br /><br /> Place the tin can under running warm water to melt the ice. Dry the can with a towel and place a votive candle in the bottom. You will need a long lighter or match to light the candle. <br /><br /> To further decorate your tin can luminary, you can spray paint the can any color you wish. Be creative! <br /><br /> This is a great family project. Just make sure kids have adult supervision while using the hammer and nails. A full installation can be done in an hour or two, and the small amount of extra money is well spent when considering the price of a high end television set! All you need is the right tools and materials, and of course, a plan in mind. <br /><br /> The options other than paneling are usually dry walling, which is messy and time consuming, or tiling, which does not work in every room, or wall paper, which is not very easy to do properly unless you use self stick. <br /><br /> Paneling is a nice inexpensive option, but it may not be ideal fro every situation, and it also depends upon the kind of paneling you get.     <content:encoded><![CDATA[I'll start by explaining how squeaking floorboards starts. <br /><br /> Quite often, over a period of time, the flexing of the floor or expansion and contraction of the timber may loosen floorboard nails. <br /><br /> It is the resulting movement of the wood against the nails or against the neighbouring boards that produces the typical irritating squeak. <br /><br /> The simplest cure is to drive the floorboard nails in deeper with a nail punch, which allows the tapered edges of the nails to grip the wood more securely. <br /><br /> We have found that sometimes, however, this may not be a lasting solution. <br /><br /> If the problem persists, use either a larger or ring-shank nails. You can buy all of the items I talk about from general <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/diy+stores" rel="tag">DIY stores</a> - I'm sure that you will have a local store to you. Alternatively companies like Screw Fix or BandQ or other DIY stores should be able to help. <br /><br /> Using larger nails or <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/ring+shank+nails" rel="tag">ring shank nails</a> will give a better grip as they are designed for situations like creaking floor boards; however they need to have <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/clearance+holes" rel="tag">clearance holes</a> drilled through the boards. I would recommend you use a normal electric or hand-drill to do this. <br /><br /> The clearance holes must be slightly larger than the diameter of the nail to ensure that they grip the bottom of the board securely. <br /><br /> After you have put the nails in make sure that you fill any redundant holes with matching wood filler - the closer the colour match the better. You can almost completely disguise the nail heads this way. <br /><br /> If the boards can't be re-nailed satisfactorily (for example, because of twisting or bowing), use countersunk stainless-steel woodscrews. <br /><br /> Remember that you need to bury the heads of the screws deep enough to cover them with filler or with matching wooden plugs.
