Most people see a big dog and think that they need a large living space. Well, for the most part they would be correct, but some dogs, like the Great Dane, are just as happy with a small space as with a large one. Ironically, most large dogs have a lower activity level, while smaller dogs require a much greater level of activity. Giant breed dogs usually require two good long walks a day. Small breed dogs generally require more intensive free play as well as a few walks daily.

This gentle giant loves to lie around and only requires at a minimum a good long walk once a day. Once house trained, this breed will let you know when its time for her walk. The Great Dane does not bark much and only becomes aggressive when the circumstances require it. Larger urban areas are no problem for the Great Dane as it loves everyone and needs to be around people. Dignified, kind, and affectionate, it is playful and patient with children. However, because of her giant size and head strong nature, she should be socialized and obedience trained at an early age and always kept on leash. The Dane can even adapt to being left on her own during the day as long as she gets a walk and lots of companionship in the morning and evening.

Like the cartoon dog Marmaduke, this breed is a lovable family pet; loyal to the bone, affectionate, responsible and dependable.

As an apartment dog, she will need a few things to make her and you happy:

1. A space of her own. Whether a corner in your bedroom or a space in the hallway, you will need to provide at least a little spot for him to call his own.

2. A very soft bed or large cushion to lie on or she'll be up on the furniture like no tomorrow.

3. A raised dish.

4. And for those colder climates a coat or cape to keep warm on those long daily walks.

As long as you provide a little space in your home, get some obedience training and provide the exercise this breed needs, then the Great Dane makes an excellent apartment dog. Loyal and brave, she will guard your property. Relatively bark free, gentle and affectionate, she will win over the neighbours. Have an apartment but want a big dog, then get yourself the gentle giant, get a Great Dane! <bio>Mike Mathews is a contributing writer and editor for the popular dog breed site: http://www.dog-breed-facts.com .
Whether you are in need of something for business or pleasure, a good flash drive can make all of the difference. Many of us depend on our flash drives for business mainly, but there are many other types and classes of flash drives out there. For the time being, lets focus on the cool flash drives available; that is, the best suited flash drive for your needs.

Did you know that there are flash drives available right now that are bullet proof, water proof, impact resistant, or even the size of a credit card? Do you frequently carry a pocket knife or pen? What if your pocket knife or pen had a usb flash drive built into it?

Many people just purchase any flash drive because of an immediate need. The difference between a flash drive and a cool flash drive is in its additional features.

SanDisk 1 GB Cruzer Profile Biometric USB Flash Drive (SDCZ5-1024, Retail Package)

For those who are big on security, this is one of the best tools to use for safekeeping information. This cool flash drive doesn't only hold information, but it also contains a thumb print reader built into it. You can use this device to keep your billing information safe as well. Today nearly a third of the population pays some bills online; likewise, identity theft is at an all time high. Besides not saving your passwords on your internet browser, you can also keep your billing statements safe on this biometrics flash drive.

Dane-Elec 1GB Dog Tag External Hard Drive =96 Black

This particular flash drive is unique because it can be worn as well as personalized. For some, this is an important feature especially for those who are very rough on electronics. Usually, a standard flash drive will not hold up very well throughout regular wear and tear. For these reasons, Dane-Elec's Dog Tag Flash Drive is an excellent gift for the average dad or even a coworker.

Victorinox SwissBeat MP3 Player 1 GB

Most people who work hard for a living need at least a little pick-me-up throughout the course of their day. What better than to have loads of music to help speed up the dead moments in the day. With this cool flash drive you not only get a device that holds information, but also an mp3 player and a pocket knife. The pocket knife is most likely the main feature of this customized flash drive, but regardless of your daily habits, this is a great addition to your own gadgets.

eXpansys Memory Walletex 1GB Credit Card Flash Drive

If you already carry quite a bit of gadgets and extra equipment throughout your normal day, you may wish to consider this particular flash drive. It's slim and fits into standard credit card slots within most wallets and purses. This is also a great business oriented gift as well as a great tool. Just getting into the habit of keeping your information in your wallet can also help you avoid forgetting to bring important data. <bio>Find some of the greatest deals online for Cool Flash Drives as well as some of the best shipping options available. Most of these dogs need lots of exercise and a fair amount of living space. Many of these dogs have thick double coats and can be heavy shedders. The heavy shedding breeds include the: Akita, Alaskan Malamute, Great Pyrenees, Newfoundland, Saint Bernard, Samoyed and Siberian Husky. The top 10 most popular Working Dog breeds in the US according to the American Kennel Club 2005 registrations are discussed below and their registration rank is included in brackets.

1. Boxer

The Boxer (#7) is a large, strong and muscular dog that is energetic, good-natured and playful. Boxers are very popular because they love children and are a good dog breed for active families with children. Toddlers and young children should be supervised carefully when around young or adolescent dogs that will knock them over when they get excited. This breed needs early socialization and obedience training while they are puppies and exercise while adolescents to control their exuberance. Boxers are alert, intelligent and eager to please and can be trained to a high level for agility sports and obedience competitions. Boxers make good watchdogs and can even be trained to be guard dogs.

2. Rottweiler

The Rottweiler (#16) is a very heavy, muscular and large dog breed. A well-bred Rottweiler is calm, intelligent, confident and courageous but can be aggressive toward strangers and strange dogs. Therefore it is important that this breed be thoroughly socialized and obedience trained starting when it is a puppy and continuing through adolescence. The Rottie needs exercise and mental stimulation and makes a good obedience, agility and schutzhund competitor. Rottweilers are not suited for indoor life and enjoy being outside. A well trained Rottie does fine with older children but this breed should be restricted to people who have the time to thoroughly socialize, obedience train, and keep this dog active.

3. Doberman Pinscher

The Doberman Pinscher (#21) is a strong, muscular and athletic large dog. Dobermans are usually protective but also are sweet and docile family dogs. This intelligent breed needs early socialization and obedience training when it is a puppy and this should be continued through adolescence. Dobermans do fine with older children if they are raised with them. Male Dobes can be very aggressive with other male dogs and shouldn't be trusted with small pets and strange children. Dobermans need lots of exercise and companionship and shouldn't be left alone for long periods of time. This breed should spend a significant amount of time at a dog training school. Dobermans make good guard dogs and good watchdogs.

4. Great Dane

The Great Dane (#24) is a very large and strong dog and is known as the gentle giant of dog breeds. The Dane is gentle, quiet, loyal and affectionate towards its family. This breed would rather lean against you for a pat, than be aggressive towards anyone. The Dane is great with family children but small children must be supervised carefully to avoid knockdown. The Dane is so large that it must be socialized and trained to behave very cautiously around children and pets. Because the Dane is so large early obedience training is essential to prevent it from exerting dominance. Young Danes, up to three years old, can be boisterous and need strict supervision. Danes make excellent watchdogs.

5. Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky (#25) is a very handsome medium to large dog breed that is playful, friendly, athletic and independent. Siberians get along well with older children but are not recommended for toddlers and small children unless raised with them from a puppy. Too many people are attracted to this handsome dog without realizing this is a working sled dog that needs a lot of physical activity. Siberians belong outside in an escape-proof large yard but get bored and destructive if they have too little exercise. Training is quite challenging and must be started when the Sibes are puppies and continued through to adulthood. Siberians don't bark much (although they howl from time to time) and are too friendly to make good watchdogs.

6. Mastiff

The Mastiff (#33) is a gentle giant dog and one of the heaviest dog breeds. This gentle giant is a great family dog that is calm, dignified, good-natured and very fond of children. Because of its giant size, toddlers are in danger of knock-down, and should always be supervised carefully. Mastiffs need a house with a large fenced yard. This breed needs lots of companionship and should have early and on-going socialization and obedience training so that you can control the Mastiff with only voice commands. This breed is naturally protective of its home and family and must be socialized early and often with other dogs to prevent it from becoming combative. Mastiffs make good watch dogs and guard dogs.

7. Saint Bernard

The massive Saint Bernard (#37) is the most famous of all giant dog breeds and one of the best known of all dog breeds. The Saint is an intelligent, courageous, obedient and good natured dog breed. The breed is very good with children and also other pets but because of their very large size, young children and toddlers should be supervised carefully to avoid any accidents. The Saint is relatively easy to train but must be thoroughly socialized and trained while it is young and hasn't grown too large to handle. The Saint Bernard makes a good watchdog even though it doesn't bark much and is fairly tolerant of strangers.

8. Bullmastiff

The Bullmastiff (#42) is a very large dog that is a cross between the Bulldog and the Mastiff dog breeds. The Bullmastiff is loveable and trustworthy but also fearless and afraid of nothing. Normally this breed is mild mannered and docile but once aroused can be aggressive with other male dogs and strangers. Bullmastiffs make great family pets for families with older children but young puppies or adolescents are too exuberant to be around toddlers or small children. Bullmastiff puppies must have early socialization and obedience training that is reinforced through adulthood. This dog breed is too large to allow it to have any unruly behavior and at any sign of aggression get professional training assistance. Bullmastiffs make fantastic watch dogs and great natural guard dogs but should never receive additional guard dog training.

9. Newfoundland

The Newfoundland (#46) or Newf is one of the giant dog breeds whose teddy bear appearance gives an indication of what a wonderful family dog it is. The Newfoundland has a wonderfully sweet and gentle disposition that is reflected in his kind expression. This intelligent, gentle and good-natured giant dog is great with children and makes a terrific family dog. Toddlers should be supervised carefully as one slurp from his big tongue could knock a little one over. Newfs and all giant breeds should be socialized and obedience trained early while puppies and through adolescence. Newfs need lots of companionship and need to be involved in family activities.

10. Bernese Mountain Dog

The Bernese Mountain Dog (#47) is a very handsome large dog which is outgoing, intelligent and affectionate and makes a terrific family pet. Berners love children but should be supervised with young children because they are large and can knock the toddlers over. Berners should be socialized early with small children and animals when they are puppies. Bernese are intelligent and very trainable and make good dogs for competitive obedience trials. These mountain dogs like to be outside and thrive in cold weather. Berners are fairly tolerant with strangers but still make excellent watch dogs and guard dogs. <bio>About the Author - Mike Mathews is a contributing writer and editor for the popular dog breed site: http://www.dog-breed-facts.com .
When you are shopping for a dog bed for your dog, there are a few things that you need to avoid so that you can make an informed, intelligent purchase. Don't buy the first dog bed that you see, take your time and shop around. If possible, bring your dog with you when you shop for a bed so that you can make sure that you get one that is large enough. Otherwise, keep handy these five common mistakes and take care to avoid them.

It is not chew proof

If you have a chewer and your bed is not chew proof, you may come home one day to a shredded doggie bed. Check the liner as well as the bed itself and see how durable they are. Some beds are chew proof and you can purchase new liners or use old blankets for the inside of the bed. Another consideration here is regarding chewing. You don't want your dog chew his or her bed and get something stuck in their throat or choke. This is pretty unlikely, but there is always a possibility. It is better to be safe than sorry.

It is cheap

When you buy a cheap doggie bed, you usually get what you pay for. Chances are your cheap doggie bed won't last long. You may do better to get a slightly more expensive or better made bed for your dog. With a better made dog bed, preferably by a name that you can trust, you know it will hold up well.

It is not the right size

You don't want to get your bull dog a doggie bed that is made for a toy poodle and you don't want to get your Chihuahua a doggie bed that is made for a Great Dane. The point here is, make sure that your doggie bed is the right size for your dog. Your dog should be able to comfortably turn around, curl up and stretch out in his or her bed. You do not, however, want to get a doggie bed that is too big for the dog either. If the dog feels lost in a huge bed, they may not want to stay in it. If you get a bed for a puppy, remember that puppies grow - fast! You may want to get a larger bed, but pile a comforter or blanket in it so that the puppy can make a nice little nest in which to sleep.

It is not washable

The last thing that you want is a doggie bed that you can not clean. You want a bed that is fully washable. Dog beds can become quite odiferous over time, plus, they can harbor fleas. Get a bed that you can wash the lining regularly and wipe down the bed itself if it is not able to be thrown in the washing machine. Use a mild solution of bleach and water to clean your dog's bed. This is the best way to deodorize and disinfect the bed and bedding.

It does not suit your dog

Finally, make sure that the bed fits the dog. If the dog is warm natured, he will swelter in a bed lined with sheepskin. If your dog is cold natured she will freeze if you don't throw in some blankets. The bottom line is when seeking a dog bed, think of the dog first. What is safe and what suits them best. <bio>Before you purchase any dog bed, find the great variety of discount dog bed and up to date information at http://www.dogkindercare.com </bio>

In the movies, the Doberman is portrayed as an aggressive dog that lunges at people with vicious eyes. In truth, Dobermans are loyal, intelligent family pets.

The American Kennel Club places the breed in the working group class along with dogs such as the Great Dane and the Boxer. They were originally bred for police work and even used in the German military (which is not surprising since the sight of these powerful dogs could make a person anxious.)

Physically, the Doberman is square with a strong chest and a bullet shaped head. It can weight around 55 to 90 pounds with a height of 24 to 28 inches. The coat is black, red or fawn with tan markings. Some Dobermans have a small section of white fur on their chest. The eyes are almond shaped and dark and most owners dock the tail to prevent painful accidents in the future.

The Doberman is a very energetic dog. They do need a lot of exercise so an apartment setting is not suitable. Even if you do have a yard, Dobermans enjoy time with their owners and need to be walked daily.

This breed is a family dog. They are eager to please and can be trained successfully. If you have a puppy in the same house as a small child, you might want to be a little more vigilant because the puppy doesn't know its own strength yet and can knock the child down.

Begin training as soon as you bring the dog home. Dobermans are smart. They can get into trouble if left alone. If you have a puppy, enroll it in puppy obedience class while still young and easy to control.

Nutritionally speaking, the Doberman pincher needs plenty of food and the food must be specially formulated for large dogs to ensure it gets the desirable nutrients.

As a breed the Doberman are prone to becoming overweight when they get older. Check with the doctor to ensure your dog is on the right track. Other possible afflictions are heart disease, hypothyroidism and a hereditary disease called Von Willenbrand's disease.

It is relatively easy to groom your dog. All that is required is to brush the it once a week to remove dirt and cut their nails when they get too long.

In truth a Doberman Pincher is a pleasure to have in the family. If you want a dog that can guard the home and still be loyal and loving then you should definitely consider the Doberman. <bio>George Adams is a staff writer at http://www.pets-digest.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.recreation-digest.com. </bio>

Doesn't matter how big of a backyard you give your puppy they will still try to get out. You can stop this though by making sure that the fence is secure enough. This is important that the pup has to stay in the fence because most all public places have leash laws. That keeps them from roaming the street alone or getting hurt by a car or another dog.

Available Fence Choices

There are several different kinds of fences that you can choose from. The quality of the fence depends on a few things: What does the budget look like? How big and strong will the dog get to be? Does the area you live in have any restrictions in installation of the fence or are there any issues you need to think of such as gas or phone lines?

The fences that attract the most eyes when people pass are those made of wrought iron, masonry, and wood stockade. These usually cost more than other options. The fences that are popular with those who are wanting to keep the cost down are chain link fences. Others that are really expensive are out of the question for most people due to budget constraints.

An electric fence is also an option to contain your puppy. The electronic fence has a buried wire that goes around the area you want the pup to stay in and a collar that the dog wears. When the dog passes the wire he is given a shock. This will cause the pup to back up and quickly learn stay away from that area. This works well in areas that do not allow you to put a fence around the property.

There are warnings with this fence though, if the pup sees a cat or a car that they may chase it. They will be able to run through the area with a quick shock and when the chase is over they will not want to come back into the yard because they won't want to be shocked. This effectively shuts them out of their area.

The other little problem with an electronic fence is with the space being left open the fence doesn't keep the pup away from strangers or other animals. While the dog cannot leave the area there is nothing stopping others from getting to your pup. If your pup is a little territorial what ever enters could get hurt.

Other Fencing Details To Keep In Mind

If your puppy is real small right now they will be able to pass through some types of chain link fences. So you need to make sure that you get a fence that has smaller chain link. So they won't be able to pass through.

You also need to think about your dogs climbing skills dogs like Pit bulls can climb the fence and be out. Some dogs like huskies can tear the fence so you need to think about that as well. Other dogs that are really tall like Great Danes will be able to jump some fences. I have seen a Dane pup jump a six foot fence from a stand still.

A stockade fence or masonry wall may be the best choice because your dog cannot see or been seen from the other side of the fence. With a stockade fence territorial problems between your dog and other dogs in the neighborhood are a thing of the past. <bio>Joann Henry operates "Doggie Health Care" http://www.DoggieHealthCare.com, a blog all about our pooches health.
The variety of dog species is so great that sometimes it's better not to think of them all as part of the same species at all.

Biologists do because they can interbreed. Dog owners have different purposes, so it can be better to emphasize the differences over the similarities.

A Jack Russell terrier looks, thinks and behaves much differently from a Great Dane.

The latter are generally very calm. A Golden Retriever is a very different animal than a Collie. Golden Retrievers are fun loving, but excitable.

A German Shepherd and a Chihuahua have little more in common than the name 'dog'.

As a result of these differences, training should be tailored to the breed you're attempting to train. Patience is required for training all dogs, but more is required for some than for others.

German Shepherds are intelligent and take to obedience commands readily and with pleasure. Jack Russell's are also very smart, but much more willful and will require a different technique.

With terriers, for example, distraction techniques are very handy. Terriers are high energy, highly active dogs. They have evolved to spot movement in an instant and go after the animal producing it.

Keeping them focused is a real challenge, so make sure at all times that their eyes are on you. Use treats, toys or other objects and wiggle them to see that the terrier's eyes are on you.

Collies are equally trainable, but much more mellow. They're extremely loyal and protective, which is great. But it presents its own kind of challenges.

A collie will spontaneously bark and chase any stranger who appears to threaten the family. That can be desirable for a watch dog guarding the house at night.

But it can be annoying if carried out every time a child walks by along the sidewalk during the afternoon.

Bark collars are sometimes necessary under these circumstances, but remove the collar when the sun goes down. That way the dog may only associate the discouragement with daylight and still continue to function as a watch dog when it counts.

Dalmatians make for excellent companions, but they are ultra-energetic and very strong.

That can be a troublesome combination for one that spends all its time in a small backyard with no one to play with. If you plan on owning one of these excellent dogs, be prepared to spend time working off some of that excess vitality.

Dalmatians need a large area so they can run at top speed - the only speed they know.

They'll work best with someone who can toss a ball far away, and has the presence to command them. They can be extremely loyal, but they need a strong hand.

Being the alpha dog when faced with a Dalmatian requires a forceful owner.

Tailor your training regimen to the actual nature of your dog, including both those aspects derived from the breed and the unique characteristics of your specific dog. Just like humans, dogs are individuals. <bio>Dog Health Revealed is an excellent place to find dog links, articles and information on your dog's health.
Dog beds come in all shapes and sizes, large and small, which makes it both easy and hard to find the right bed for your dog. Sure, you have a lot of options: big, small, round, rectangular, colored, patterned, custom and even luxury and designer dog beds. But with all the choices available, you'll still spend lots of time picking out the right bed for your dog.

Buying a dog bed may seem straight forward, but it's more complex than you think. Just as you would if you were buying a bed for yourself or a child, think about the comfort of your pet, and remember that this should be your primary criteria. No matter how much you want the bed to match, say, the décor of the living room, bedroom or other area, you have to think about the comfort of your pet over your own desires.

That said, here are some tips and tricks for finding a good bed for your dog (or for any other pets!):

Cheaper is not necessarily better. You want the bed to be made of good, sturdy warm material that will keep your dog comfy while wearing through bouts of scratching, gnawing, drool, accidents and all the other normal habits of a dog. There are plenty of reasonably priced beds that are really well-made, so shop around before you settle on the cheapest deal. There are also many designer and luxury dog beds available if you feel like splurging on your pooch.

Think about your dogs sleeping habits. Does your dog sleep in a ball or sprawl out? Always edge one way on the bed? Wiggle a lot? Toss and turn? Sleep sound as a rock? Identify your dog's sleeping patterns and choose a bed accordingly.

Think about the shape and size of your dog. Don't skimp on size and always take your dog's measurements before buying them a bed. Also, remember with dog beds its better to err on the side of larger than smaller. You also need to think about size if you have two dogs that sleep together. An extra big bed can fit two little lap dogs easily; however, if you have a way larger breed, like a Great Dane, you may have to go custom, though there are companies, like Mammoth, who offer larger dog beds for up to 200 lb breeds.

Think about padding. This ties somewhat in to the shape of your dog, but also its weight. Over time, dog beds wear out and bed padding thins; make sure you get a material that can withstand at least a decent amount of time. New technology has provided excellent stuffing materials for dog beds, like high memory, virgin upholster filling.

Keep in mind just these few tips and you should be well on your way to finding your much need and much wanted dog bed. From luxury and designer dog beds to cheap, flimsy ones, there are an unlimited number of choices; use the above criteria when searching for your pet's bed and both they will ultimately get the bed that's right for them. <bio>Mammoth Dog Beds is a manufacturer of vet recommended bedding.
As winter arrives in the northern parts of the world and we break out our down filled parkas, our fleece lined ski jackets, long-johns, hats and mittens - do we stop to think of our four legged friends and companions? Well, most of us don't, which is hard to imagine seeing as he's one of our best friends.

Most of the dogs that we keep have not been bred for a severely cold climate. They were bred for size, companionship, show and as working dogs. Only the Spitz-type dogs such as the Alaskan malamute and the Huskies were bred for cold climates. These are large dogs with heavy mass and thick coats that are able to retain and maintain their body heat.

Many of the larger short haired breeds such as the Bulldog, Boxer, Dalmatian and Great Dane appreciate a sweater in cold weather. However, most of the dogs we have as pets in our homes are from the medium to smaller dog breeds. These dogs, because of their smaller body mass and typically thinner coats, can get cold very quickly. Their extremities, being smaller, have a greater chance of being damaged by the cold than do the larger breeds. Small and toy dogs have an extremely hard time maintaining and retaining their body heat. At worst frigid air, snow or slush can cause your dog to get frost bite and at best it will certainly make her him not want to go outdoors for exercise, walks and toileting.

One of the best ways to protect your pet from the elements is to kit them out with specialty dog clothes designed to keep them warm. Like our own clothing, the materials used are designed for comfort and durability. Fleece, cotton and nylon are commonly used in the construction of doggie coats, capes, sweaters, shirts and boots. If you want keep your dog comfortable in cold weather you will need to purchase at the very least a coat or cape (to help retain body heat) and fleece lined nylon boots (to protect the feet from snow and cold). Almost any pet store will have dog apparel to suit most breeds. To find larger sized clothes (for breeds like the Greyhound) or specific brands and styles, you may have to search out an on-line store that carries these products.

If you live in the Snow Belt, do your dog a favor - get him some warm clothes to wear. He'll be happier for it and you'll have peace of mind that your dog is safe and comfortable. <bio>Mike Mathews is a contributing writer and editor for the popular dog breed site: http://www.dog-breed-facts.com . He is strongly competitive, has an excellent mind and is skilled at playing games such as physical sports as well as poker. Before coming to the United States and playing his first poker game in Santa Cruz, California, he excelled in tennis and soccer as well as chess and backgammon.

Considering that Gus is relatively new to the game, he has done remarkably well in a short period of time and although early in his career, he has high visibility among the more seasoned champions.

Some of his successes are:

• 2004, First Place World Poker Tournament Superstars Cruise NLHE • 2003, WPT Battle of Champions • 2003, Third Place WPT Five Diamonds World Poker Classic • 2003, First Place WPT LA Poker Classic NLHE • 2002, First Place WPT Five Diamonds World Poker Classic

In 2004, along with the legendary Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson and "Maverick" actor James Garner, Hansen was inducted into the Poker Walk of Fame in the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. The men's handprints and signatures are now permanently displayed in the Casino.

During the first season of the WPT, he received Player of the Year title and has played at four finalist tables. Gus was also in WPT events that were specifically made for television and won the first championship in the "Bad Boys of Poker" playing against Antonio Esfandiari, Paul "The Truth" Darden, Phil Laak and David "Devilfish" Ulliott as well as amateur player Mark Richardson, a bank teller from Illinois.

Hansen has a number of female fans and in 2004, was called the "Sexiest Poker Player" by People Magazine. He follows a strict physical routine in preparation for poker tournaments

Gus learned his aggressive style while playing backgammon where this behavior is necessary in order to be a winner. His opponents never know whether he has a bad hand or "the nuts" during his constant attacks as he very often knows how to manipulate them due to his advanced knowledge of probabilities and odds. Thus far, opponents have found it impossible to read him because he plays practically every hand. He is a very popular player at tournaments with a good following and is considered by many to be the most interesting player in the WPT.

He is also considered a dangerous opponent due to his playing style because he is known to raise during pre-flops and plays rag hands very casually. Gus is the only player who has won three tournaments in the WPT and is also a strong competitor on the European Poker Tour. As of this date, his total winnings are $2,247,049.

Hansen has also started an online poker room of which he is quite proud. He stated that he feels it has superior software and interface compared to other poker room websites.

His typical response when asked the secret of his success is, "Not to say that I am a great player or anything, but somebody has to win." <bio>Kenneth Bateman writes numerous articles on the subject of poker and its players.
Judy writes:

andquot;I have a 6 month old Great Dane that I bought a pinch collar to stop bad habits (nipping, jumping up). This worked great for about one week but now it is very difficult to give a 'motivational' correction. It's almost like she's gotten used to the collar and doesn't respond to it anymore. This is especially the case when she is on the couch. Sometimes she bites at this time (not hard, but it's very annoying), and it is impossible to give her a 'motivational' correction. Any advice?andquot;

Dear Judy:

Here's a blurb from an article I wrote on how to use the pinch collar:

Basics of the Pinch Collar

The pinch collar is designed to replicate the way the mother would correct her pups in a litter. Or similarly, how the Alpha dog in a pack would correct the subordinate dogs... that is, by giving a andquot;nipandquot; on the neck.

The prong collar (also frequently called the pinch collar) is made of a series of prongs that link together.

Most pinch collars are designed pretty much the same: There is a safety ring which rides next to the dog's neck and a andquot;Dandquot; shaped ring that you hook your leash to. Some pinch collar manufacturers have developed andquot;quick releaseandquot; mechanisms which may work somewhat differently.

A Safe Fit For the Pinch Collar:

In order to properly size and fit the collar, you must do the following:

1. Understand that size and fit are two different issues. The size is determined by the SIZE of the prong... not the diameter. Sizes usually come in small, medium and large. For dogs up to 40 pounds, a small prong usually works best as you'll get more andquot;pinch to the inch.andquot; Dogs 40 to 80 pounds will usually need a medium or sometimes a large size prong.

2. The fit of the collar is determined by adding or subtracting prongs to change the diameter. Simply break the collar open at one of the looser prongs in the middle of the collar and pop off one or more of the individual prongs.

3. Properly fitted, you should only be able to fit approximately 1/2 finger space between the tip of the prong and the skin of the dog's neck. Trust me, you won't be doing your dog any favor if it's too loose and you have to give 10 times the number of corrections and it's rubbing and chafing her neck because YOU weren't using it correctly. Make sure it's a snug fit... 1/2 finger space!!!

Don't Teach Your Dog To Be Collar-Smart!

If you put the pinch collar on your dog immediately before training, she'll become COLLAR-SMART! She'll respond like a complete angel when the collar is on but like a real devil when the collar is off. So, just like the Alpha dog who always has the ability to correct the subordinate dogs (with her mouth)... so must you! In other words, leave the pinch collar and a tab (1 foot leash or longer) on your dog ANY TIME YOU'RE INTERACTING WITH HER. You'll know when she's proofed when you can call me up and bet me $100 because you're so confident that your dog is responding with 100% reliability. If you take the pinch collar off sooner, you're running the risk of making her collar-smart! Specific to answering your question, usually when people tell me this the culprit is one of the following reasons:

- The pinch collar is too loose, and they need to take another link out. In such cases, you should only be able to put 1/2 a finger space between the prong and the skin of the dog's neck. Sometimes even less.

- When giving the correction, the handler isn't using slack, but is instead mistakenly pulling the leash tight-to-tighter. It needs to be loose-to-tight-to-loose, in a sharp, snapping tug motion.

- If, after trying all of the above, you're currently using a medium sized prong collar, I'd suggest going up to the large. Or vice versa.

Sometimes a different sized prong works better on different dogs. However, this is usually a non-issue, as the culprit is HOW the collar is used (see above.)

That's all for now, folks! Adam <bio>Adam G.
Why do dogs need toys? Well this is a good question and there is no simple answer. Dogs are like children or at least many owners treat their dogs like children. So for the same reason parents buy toys for their children, so do dog owners buy toys for their dogs.

There are many toys for owners to choose for their dogs. Choosing toys that are safe relies on a number of considerations which I cover briefly in this article.

First of all what do we mean by toys for dogs. Basically they fit into two categories. Special toys you can buy from a pet shop or other similar retail outlet. Household items or objects found in your garden or local park. Let's take these in that order.

Special Dog Toys

Although you can buy toys for your dog in a shop that does not mean that they are all safe for your particular dog. Also you should realise that toys you can buy for dogs do not have to meet the same stringent safety standards imposed on the manufacturers and retailer as required for children's toys.

Dogs of any age are like children at a young age and cannot distinguish between a safe toy and one that can cause harm. Of course Dogs can be trained to avoid toys that can be harmful but that really only applies to household items or objects used as toys which I cover in the second category. It is really up to the dog owner to choose toys that are safe for their particular dog.

So what criteria should dogs owners look for when choosing a safe toy for their dog. Well of course the toy has to be fun because that is the primary objective of a toy. Then it has to be practical in that the toy needs to be durable - it needs to be capable of quite a lot of abuse from your dog and you want it to last for a while. Finally it has to be safe and what is safe for one dog may not be safe for another.

Most dogs like to chew almost anything that comes near them, particularly when they are a puppy. So a soft cuddly toy which squeaks may be safe when bitten by a small Chiwawa but can be harmful and certainly not durable when chewed buy a Great Dane. Plastic toys can break up and cause harmful splinters for a dog with a powerful jaw.

Anything that is small enough to be swallowed by your dog is potentially harmful. Choosing a toy of the right size for your dog is very important. Much of this is common sense to the majority of sensible dog owners and if in doubt about a toy then ask the shop attendant before you buy. Chew Bones are very popular and are safe provided they are not small enough to get stuck in the dog's mouth and provided they are not made from a brittle material. Hard rubber toys are usually a good choice. Kongs are probably the best toy ever invented and come in a variety of sizes to suit any dog. So lets move on to the next category.

Household Items or Objects used as Toys

Well the list here would be endless so I will talk only about the type of household item or object that can be found around the house, garden, local park and anywhere you are likely to take your dog. Vigilance and common sense by the dog owner is very important particularly with young puppies that have yet to be trained.

Avoid allowing your dog to chew or bite on anything that can be harmful. Items such as string, shoe laces, cord of any kind (especially electrical), discarded socks etc etc. All of these things can be swallowed and/or trapped in your dog's throat. Anything that is likely to break into small pieces when chewed or bitten must be avoided.

Whilst a dog owner can usually control what happens within the confines of the house and garden, it becomes much more difficult in the park, in the field or down by the local pond. This is where vigilance by the dog owner is so important. When out in the open, most dog owners like to play 'fetch' with their dogs and the choice of object used as a toy in this type of game is similar to the criteria used when buying a safe toy from a shop. Twigs and small branches are usually ok provided they cannot be broken or splintered too easily. Tennis balls are used as very popular toys for dogs as many are other types of ball. The main criteria here is to ensure the ball cannot be swallowed or become stuck in the mouth or throat of larger dogs.

In summary, When choosing a safe toy or object for your dog to play with it really comes down to just plain common

sense. <bio>For more information and articles on dogs and dog health visit http://www.aboutdoghealth.info/ </bio>

Career moves can be stressful. But if the pros outweigh the cons, then you have a good thing going. It may mean you have to say goodbye to the old neighborhood, uproot your family, and start anew, so you have to be ready with your planned refinance mortgage loan.

Not Just A Case of Money

Deciding on a career is not always about money. There are several reasons that go beyond the usual petty office indifferences. But when the tension in the work place is already choking you and running your self-esteem in the shredder, it's time to go.

But making a career move is not always about money or getting a refinance mortgage loan for a beautiful home by the beach in far-flung Florida. The decision is also influenced greatly by family matters like:

1. distance of home from the kids' school. 2. long commutes from office to work. 3. unsafe neighborhood. 4. a child going to college.

Non-family reasons could be:

1. unhealthy environment and culture at the workplace. 2. more pink slips. 3. undervalued or underrated work.

If you're still at your old office cubicle, unsure of what to do, have your blood pressure checked. Don't wait until you blow up and ruin everything, including your refinance mortgage loan application. You'll still need the good graces of your boss for the smooth ride of your loan approval.

The impending company merger made up your mind. This meant that some people in the office would be offered as sacrificial lambs. Since you have been bypassed for promotions several times (another gloomy sign), you suspect you'll be the first to go. Rather than go meekly like a lamb, you'll exit like a lion. Anyway, you've got a refinance mortgage loan, a new job waiting, and a house ready to snap up in Florida.

Time For A Refinance Mortgage Loan

When the signs are out in the open, it's time to look up opportunities outside the office. Update your resume if it hasn't been aired for a long time and ask your friend at the staffing agency to find you the best match anywhere. While you're busy consolidating your chances for a better-paying job, or a job that you'd pay top dollar just to get in, let your wife complete all the requirements for your refinance mortgage loan.

Since you've been a good customer (you pay your monthly installment on time) and you have not incurred incredible credit card debts, your loan papers will be processed faster than you can blink.

Is It Time To Say Goodbye at the Water Cooler

Going to the water cooler and saying goodbye to friends and colleagues can be a sentimental journey, especially if you're leaving after 8 years with the company. But you have finally decided that your stint is over. The signs were all over the place. It was now time to go and map out your refinance mortgage loan to finance your move and your new home.

But you'll miss your friends, especially Mr. Dane who never refused you small loans whenever you were short of cash. You'll never hear Ms. Old Maid scold and fuss, she who always borrowed your orange stapler and your headphones. There's John, your poker buddy and Precy, the office beauty who walks like the world will always wait for her.

The goodbyes at the water cooler will be outwardly cheerful. You'll miss them all and they'll miss you - the office jack-of-all-trades. So slap the guys back and kiss the women goodbye. It's time for the biggest change in your life. Your refinance mortgage loan will start you afresh on a new lease in life. If you've made a smart career move, make a smarter refinance mortgage loan choice this time around. <bio>Let your refinance mortgage loan (http://www.whataboutloans.com/mortgage/mortgage-refinance-loans.html) work for you, whether you're going for a Florida refinance (http://www.whataboutloans.com/state/mortgage/florida.html) or a California refinance (http://www.whataboutloans.com/state/mortgage/california.html).
For thousands of years now, dogs have been selectively bred to produce varieties with characteristics superior to their predecessors. At first, the breeding focused on the dog's use, for example its hunting ability. This resulted in a vast diversity of dog breeds. But it did not stop there, later dogs were bred for more distinct and attractive forms.

A variety of dogs can be called a breed (distinct kind of family) on the condition that its parents have offspring of the same characteristics (e.g. behavior and characteristics). This is called true breeding.

Generally speaking, the majority of traditional breeds are termed andquot;purebredsandquot;. Domestic dogs in general are called Canis familiaries.

The following are the different classifications of dog breeds:

* Bulldogs * Extinct dog breeds * Cur * Fighting dogs * Gun dogs, including Pointers, Retrievers, and Spaniels * Herding, including Sheepdogs * Hounds, including Sight hounds and Scent hounds * Sled dog * Hunting * Toy * Terrier * Working (or Utility)

However, these can be further classified into smaller but similar dog breeds, such as the Lurchers, Mastiff types, Pitbulls and Spitz types.

The herding breed is most commonly known as the sheepdogs. They have the ability to control the behavior (specifically the movements) of other animals. These are usually an intelligent type of dogs and are devoted to their owners, whom they consider partners, for they normally use their own judgement as well as their owner's commands. Most forms of this breed have the tendency to drive and to gather the herd.

The examples of the herding type are Puli, Briard, German Shepherd, Collie, and Old English Sheep dog.

The oldest dog breeds is the hounds. They are differentiated into two categories:

* Sight hounds -- which hunt by sight and include the greyhound build. * Scent hounds -- which hunt by scent and include the foxhound build. * Some breeds have the combination of both and some don't look like hound dogs at all.

The examples of which are the Basenji, Basset hound, English Foxhound, Saluki and the Beagle.

On the other hand, are the non-sporting dogs, also known as the companion dog breeds. This is the most diverse of all dog breeds and is sometimes considered the catchall for dog types that cannot be categorized elsewhere. The following are the examples of this dog breed: Bulldog, Boston terrier, Dalmatian, Chinese Shar-pei, French Bulldog, Standard and Miniature Poodle, and Tibetan Terrier.

The sporting breed are the modern hunters. In general, they work with hunters to complement the hunter's abilities. Setting and pointing breeds work by locating game for the hunter. Spaniels are known for flushing out the game so the hunter may shoot the prey. The retrievers bring the game back to the hunter. Examples of this type are the Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, English Setter, Field Spaniel, Pointer and the Sussex Spaniel.

The terrier group includes the dogs that hunt for rodents and other vermin found near the ground. The term terrier actually originated with the word andquot;terra, andquot; which means earth. Some were later bred to fight against one another. Vermin-catching terriers are further classified into two types: the long-legged and the short-legged.

Examples of this dog breed are the Irish Terrier, Bull Terrier, Lakeland Terrier, and the Miniature Bull Terrier.

The toy dogs are usually comprised of the miniature version of the other groups of dogs. However, quite a number of these types are ancient in origin, which makes it difficult to trace them with other dog varieties. This group includes: Chihuahua, Papillion, Japanese Chin, Poodle, Pug, and the Toy Fox Terrier. The working dogs on the other hand are known for their intelligence and hardiness. They are sub-divided into:

* Sledding breeds * Protecting or guarding breeds * Rescue breeds * Carting breeds

Examples of this dog breed are the Boxer, Alaskan Malamute, Bull mastiff, Great Dane, Doberman, Newfoundland, and Rottweiler. <bio>Patricia Johnson writes for several online magazines, including http://lajop.com and http://lotuv.com </bio>

It can influence and interrupts eating, sleeping or judging manner. It is different from unhappiness or a "down" feeling. It is also not an indication of personal flaws or a condition that can be motivated or wanted away.

Persons with this disorder cannot just gather themselves together and get well. Usually, treatment is important and significantly vital to healing.

* Are there different types of depression?

Yes, there are actually three primary types of depression. Most of these are established by how ominous the signs are. They are:

• Major depression -- This is the most serious type of mood disorder based on the number of signs and austerity of symptoms. It has become a severe health disorder and significant health concern in this country.

• Manic depression -- This type involves both high and low mood swings. It also indicates other major symptoms not found in other depression types.

• Dysthymia depression -- identifies the low to moderate level of depression that continues for about two years and sometimes longer. Though the symptoms are not as serious as a major depression, they more lasting and defiant to healing. People with this type develop a major depression for a moment when depressed.

* What is major depression?

This is the most serious type of depression. More symptoms found in this depression that are usually severe and serious.

Sometimes, it can be an effect from a particular disturbing incident in your life or it may develop gradually because of various personal frustrations and life struggles. Some people seem to develop the signs of a major depression with no apparent life problems.

Major depression can happen once, because of a major emotional trauma, react to healing, and will not happen again as long as you live. This is normally what they called a "single episode depression".

Some people are inclined to have habitual depression, with events of depression followed by periods of a number of years without depression, followed by another one, typically in reaction to another distress. This would be continuing depression.

Usually, the healing is similar, but that healing normally is over a longer period for continuing depression.

* What is Post-partum depression?

Postpartum depression can vary from temporary "blues" following childbirth to serious, unbearable and emotional depression.

Post partum depression signs are just the same to those experienced by other depressives, involving desperate belief, feelings of despair, low self-confidence, and constant fatigue and mood changes.

It can be healed successfully as long as the mother and her support group identify the warning symptoms and examine them with considerate clinical experts. While some psychological occurrences and depressive feelings might be completely normal, constant feeling of unimportance or desperate views are not.

The secret to healing is to be honest with what you feel during each post partum meeting with your physician.

* What is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)?

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a mood disorder felt by most people during Winter months. It is characterized by a seasonal depression, the "down" feeling, a longing to sleep for too long and habitual desire for starchier foods.

The signs of SAD normally start in the late Fall where there is already less daytime. It may not start subside until late winter or spring.

Symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder include:

• Symptoms such as unnecessary eating and sleeping, weight increase normally take place during the Fall or Winter months.

• Complete reduction from despair happens in the Spring and Summer months.

• Indications have taken place in the past two years, with no seasonal depression episodes.

• Seasonal episodes considerably outnumber no seasonal depression episodes.

• There is a longing for sweet and starchy foods.

* What is bipolar depression?

Bipolar depression, also identified as manic depression, is categorized as a type of affective disorder or mood disorder that happens during life's normal difficulties. It can become a severe clinical condition. It is a significant health concern in the United States. This is distinguished by irregular episodes of acute excitement, elevated mood, or bad temper (also referred to as mania) opposed episodic, common depressive signs. <bio>Dane Loveless is a regular contributor to depression-related guuides and sites such as 'Depression Tips.'
When that sweet little puppy face is staring at you, begging you to take it home, it's easy for rational thought to go out the window. And if that adorable face comes complete with a few face licks, you're most likely already sold. The moment you're being bombarded with wet kisses, you're probably not thinking about all the time and energy, not to mention the cost of owning a dog.

Besides the time spent training and caring for it, there are also the basic expenses of food, a warm bed, grooming and veterinary care. In addition, you'll want to have a few other things on hand: a leash and collar for walks, toys for playtime and treats for training. Most of these expenses vary from dog to dog.

Take food, for example. A three-pound Chihuahua will eat less than a 100-pound Great Pyrenees. But it's not only the amount of food they eat; it's also the type of food. You can spend a nominal amount on low-quality dog food that contains a lot of fillers, and not enough protein and minerals, or you can spend several times that amount on a special raw diet. While these types of diets generally offer all the nutrients and vitamins a dog needs, minus added filler, some dog owners like the convenience of a dry or canned food.

As smaller pets take up less space, so do their accessories. A teacup poodle-sized dog bed would never accommodate a Great Dane. A tiny bed will cost considerably less than a large bed. But then again, you may decide to forgo a dog bed altogether in favor of letting the dog sleep on a family member's bed. A toy that is the perfect size for a tiny Yorkie mouth could be dangerous around a larger dog. A big dog could choke on a toy meant for a small dog.

Larger toys are in order if you're getting a large breed dog. Buy a few nice toys, if you can. Consider it part of the cost of owning a dog.

Grooming is another consideration. It's important that dogs are bathed and brushed regularly. This helps keep their skin healthy and their coat shiny. As some dogs are prone to skin disorders, it's always a good idea to maintain good habits in this regard. Some dogs shed more than others. Even dogs that are touted as "non-shedding" breeds still shed, but maybe not as much as others. The home of a golden retriever might harbor tumbleweeds of dog hair in every corner, while in the home of a maltese, you might only find a few hairs here or there. Regular washing and brushing can help control shedding, though at certain times of the year, dogs lose more hair in preparation for the change of seasons. It's also important to keep a dog's nails short. If nails are left to grow, the quick (the fleshy portion on the underside of the nail) grows along with them, making it difficult to trim nails short without damaging the quick. If the nails are excessively long, it can be difficult and uncomfortable for a dog to walk on them. To save money, as well as bond with your dog, you can do all of the grooming activities yourself. You'll spend more on the initial supply of shampoo and nail clippers, but they'll pay for themselves the more you groom your dog.

The most critical expense to consider is that of veterinary care. Unlike toys and treats, this expense cannot be eliminated in a pinch. This is a necessary cost of owning a dog. In a perfect world, dogs would see the vet once a year. They'd go for annual rabies and distemper shots, as well as tests to check for other canine diseases. This schedule would stay in effect for the life of the dog. Unfortunately, sometimes dogs need more frequent vet visits. Ear infections, sprains and stomach ailments are among the most common reasons dogs visit their vets. Thankfully, these are usually temporary issues, and dogs recover rather quickly.

But other diseases are much more serious, and much more expensive to treat. It's said that fifty percent of all dogs over age ten will die of cancer. But certain breeds of dogs are more likely than others to have particular health issues, even before that age. Bulldogs, pugs and other short-muzzled breeds are predisposed to breathing problems. Hip dysplasia is not uncommon in golden retrievers. Cocker spaniels are susceptible to eye disorders, such as cataracts. Of course, most dogs live long, full, healthy lives, but it's a good idea to research your breed to understand what to expect.

Other items such as collars, leashes, toys and treats, run the gamut from inexpensive to downright pricey. You can find serviceable nylon collars and leashes, or you can opt for the rhinestone-encrusted collar with matching leash. It's the same with toys. You can find an inexpensive fleece chew toy, or an indestructible rubber polymer bone. Dry kibble treats can be purchased in bulk, or you can opt for natural treats that are made with real meat and vegetables.

Whether you spend a lot or a little, your dog won't know the difference. However, what he will know is how much love and attention you lavish on him, and he'll be forever grateful. If you figure affection and loyalty into the cost of owning a dog, you may find that you get back everything you spent, and so much more. <bio>David Beart is owner of the http://www.professorshouse.com , a site dedicated to family, relationships, dog health, and household issues. </bio>

Beautiful beaches and lavish accommodations aside, St. Thomas is widely regarded as the Caribbean's premier shopping destination. With over one million cruise ship passengers and overnight Caribbean resort guests visiting St. Thomas each year, the island's ports have long been bustling centers of commerce and trade. Much of the finest duty-free shopping is concentrated near the waterfront of the island's historic capital, Charlotte Amalie. At discounts of 40-60% off American mainland prices on goods such as jewelry, fine china, crystal, electronics, perfume, clothing and liquor, the bargains are seemingly endless. Adding to the allure is the fact that U.S. citizens are allowed a duty-free shopping allowance of $1,600, twice the amount of any other island in the Caribbean and three times that of European nations.

Visitors to St. Thomas should begin their shopping tour in Charlotte Amalie's downtown and waterfront areas. The historic Dutch provincial warehouses along Main, Back and Waterfront Streets, beautifully restored to host a plethora of unique shops, allow visitors to shop and sightsee simultaneously. In the alleys surrounding the Main Street area (Royal Dane Mall, Palm Passage, Riise Alley and many others), shoppers will find smaller boutiques specializing in unique local products and Caribbean oddities. Inviting restaurants and entertaining bars are located amongst these stores, ideal for lunch or an island cocktail. Most shops in this exclusive shopping district are open Monday through Saturday; including holidays from 9am to 5pm. Shops in the downtown and waterfront areas are typically closed on Sundays, unless a cruise ship is in port. The shops at larger St. Thomas hotels usually remain open on Sundays, however.

The Havensight district is another concentrated collection of shops catering to St. Thomas' visitors. Located near the primary cruise ship dock, this shopping area is comprised of The Havensight Shopping Center, The Buccaneer Mall and The Port of Sale. Featuring over 60 distinctive stores within the waterfront warehouses, the Havensight district is another great option for cruise ship passengers with limited time and overnight tourists alike. Like the shops on and around Main Street, tourists will find great prices on jewelry, clothing, perfume, liquor, electronics, music, sunglasses and assorted souvenirs. Also, Havensight is another great location for lunch, featuring a number of friendly cafes. Shops in the Havensight district are generally open from 9am to 5pm, 7 days a week when cruise ships are in port. Yet, during high season some cruise ships stay in port later into the evening. On such days, the shops in the Havensight will remain open until 7pm.

Also in Charlotte Amalie, across from Emancipation Park and Fort Christian, is the Vendors' Plaza, an assortment of small booths, tables and tents displaying a vast assortment of souvenirs. Here, in addition to the luxury goods found in other shopping districts, you will also find many locally produced products and unique regional food items. Vendors' Plaza is generally open Monday through Saturday from about 7:30am, when the vendors start setting up, until 5:00pm. On Sundays, fewer vendors set up, though the Vendors' Plaza is still worth a visit when one or more cruise ships are in port.

Directly across the street from the Vendors' Plaza is The Native Arts and Crafts Cooperative. Run by local artists, the Cooperative features a plethora of Caribbean artwork not available in any mall or shopping center.

For the more adventurous tourist, smaller shopping areas catering principally to residents are located throughout the island. Such shopping centers as American Yacht Harbor in Red Hook, Lockhart Gardens, Tutu Park Mall and Nisky Center offer visitors distinctive cultural opportunities in addition to essentials like grocery stores, pharmacies and clothing stores. Tillett Gardens is a charming local haven for pottery, silk-screened fabrics, candles, paintings and handcrafted jewelry. The Mountain Top and Paradise Point centers are also interesting options because shopping is accompanied by captivating, hilltop views. In Frenchtown, travelers can find some of the best cuisine the Caribbean has to offer.

As the heart of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas continues to astonish travelers with its refined pleasures. Combining a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere with the vibrancy of city streets, St. Thomas may just be the best of both worlds. <bio>This article was written by Justin Burch.
Commit your work to the LORD, and then your plans will succeed. -- The Bible

This world needs big dreamers and achievers that will make a change in our world, and you are one of them! Yes you. You have a great potential within you, and you have the choice to write and create history. Gods' purpose with your life is so overwhelming and good. Grab it!

Why not just invent the future!

Do you have the winning attitude?

We all have the ability to see our dreams come true. The power of a dream is powerful in the hands of a person with the right positive attitude; the winning attitude! A dream that comes true is not just pure luck; but it is rather hard work, perseverance, and a positive mind. The winning attitude is a positive mind. Do you think positive thoughts or is your mind filed with skepticism and negative thoughts that destroy every single dream? If you want to see your dreams come true, start to think positive and look for an opportunity in what might not look too great. Do you see the cup half empty or half full? Start in the small and you will experience what is inside of you grow, and become a beautiful tree with lots of good fruits. It all starts with a small seed, and then you feed that little seed with positive thoughts and then it will start to grow.

Our dreams must be stronger than our memories. We must be pulled by our dreams, rater than pushed by our memories. - Jesse Jackson

A dream is not just a goal you will see fulfilled in the future. No, a dream and a goal is a journey in which you go though adventures and hard work and enjoy your life. You need to take some risks in life. Take the chance and do the impossible and get the experience of being on un-safe ground. That is where you grow and you will see a side of yourself you have never seen before. You need to get out of your comfort zone and step out into the water.

I remember when I was a kid, I was really afraid of rollercoaster's. When I was 18 years of age I had the opportunity to sail with a sailing ship for a whole year and though that year I just had to get used to all the waves and winds. Well I grew up in Scandinavia where we have the sea almost next to our front doors! And I have never been seasick, but still I was afraid of heights and big waves. But on the ship I tried it all; I forced myself to climb the huge masthead way up in the air. Off course I had a safe line! But I realized that I loved it, and stayed up there and have kept going back since then.

Sometimes we experience hurricanes while being on the sea. I often had to climb the mast to pull the sail. And while the ship was going crazy jumping up and down and even under the water and us being on the deck. It was insane! But I still loved it. It was a great challenge that really helped me develop my personality and to believe in myself. Since that time, I have continued to go on adventures, and keep on dreaming. I believe that adventures can shape your life, and it is never too late to go on one. Do not tell yourself that you are too young or to old, because it is never too late. Get out of your comfort zone!

You need to get out of your comfort zone. You need to do something that will "shake up" your life. Don't be lazy, sitting in front of the Internet the whole day and playing online games. It is so easy to do nothing; actually that's the easiest thing in the world. But to take a step in "faith" takes courage. If you do not think you have courage, then just do it anyways! You need to get out and do whatever makes you shake from the inside! You do not need to go to Kosovo or to some planet out in space. It can be the simplest thing, like helping distributing food to the homeless or cleaning up the beach for trash. The one thing I know for sure is that it will change your life. As you step out, doors will be open to you in life and your dreams will be "taken care of". Helping others is the best thing you can do. You will start to see things from another perspective. Your own dreams will suddenly have a new focus. Your dreams will be sharper and clearer!

See the invisible, doing the impossible. See what no one else is seeing Think what no one else is thinking. Do what no one else is doing. Make a difference.

Many years ago I heard this quote, "Heroes see through their eyes what others miss. They see through their spiritual eyes. Heroes see parts of the world that others miss." Keep your eyes open for even the smallest opportunity. You never know what might happen next. It doesn't have to be the thing you actually dream about, but maybe it will lead to that dream. On an adventure you don't know what happens next, but it is exciting. Take the change and unlock your potential. Keep your eyes wide open for the needs of this world.

We need men who can dream of things that never were. -- John F. Kennedy

Jesus Freak Supporters

I am a big soccer fan and have been inside many stadiums. My favorite club that is in Copenhagen has brought me lots of attention. Then when I was around 20 years old, I got the crazy idea of making a new supporter group/fraction. I am a Jesus Freak, so why not just make a Jesus Freak Supporter group. It all actually started when I bought a soccer jersey from the club, and had them to write Jesus Freak on the back. I tell you, people looked at me and asked questions. I was standing among the most hardcore supporters with my Jesus Freak jersey!

Jesus Freaks!

Then one day I decided to create a Jesus Freak Supporter group for the soccer club. And while searching though the internet I found another Dane who was looking for others who wanted to start a Jesus Freak Supporters group as well. We met and started the first official Jesus Freak Supporter Group in our favorite soccer club in Copenhagen, Denmark. Our group grew fast and we even made a magazine and website as well. The media wanted to know more about us. They interviewed us and we came in many nation wide newspapers. It was really a great experience. I had a dream and it came true. It was hard of course, but I was driven with energy because I had a passion and wanted to see it accomplished. You can do the same. See one of your dreams come true by the right attitude and hard work.

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. --Frank Outlaw

Please take one more look at that quotation. Keep it somewhere and remember it! As I started key two, which talked about the mind and out attitude, I wanted to end with it. It is so highly important, and maybe the most important of all when we talk about our life.

We need to watch our thoughts. Are you a positive influence on yourself and other people? Start to think positive and visualize your dreams come true in your mind. There is hidden power in your mind. God created your mind, so please use it! Surround yourself with positive people, who are full of energy, and this will make the journey easier. Getting the support from your friends and family is also important. Maybe they think some of your dreams are a little weird, but that doesn't matter!

Think big, talk big, act big. Because we have a big God. -- Kathryn Kuhlman

Our words:

We need to watch our words. The power of the word that comes out of our mouth is bigger than we realize. Even an innocent joke we say can have devastating consequences or a tiny comment can make the world go mad. Watch your tongue. It will be your life. If you are always negative your will have a negative life where everything is bad. Even the weather. "Now it is to cold=85.. Now it is to warm=85=85" if what comes out of your mouth is always complaining and negative words you will surely be depressed! The people you hang out with will be depressed as well. Break that circle and renew your thoughts and words. Be an encouragement instead of a discouragement! If your friend is always complaining, then tell them to stop for a minute and start to speak good and positive things to his/her heart. Keep doing it, but refuse to listen to all the rubbish all the time.

Friends are important, and we should listen to them when they need us just to listen. We should also be mature to tell our friends if they are always complaining and need an attitude adjustment. What comes out of your mouth? Is that positive? Is it building people up or breaking them down? You have the choice to build with your mouth! What does come out of your mouth? The next time you talk, try and listen to yourself, and see what comes out. If it's mostly negative then change your vocabulary.

Every word you speak will have an impact on your mind and actions! So be positive, talk positive. Do not fear obstacles, use them instead. Tell yourself that you can do it, over and over again. Train yourself in using some of these positive words: I am a child of God! - I'm a winner =96 I can do the impossible =96 I will =96 I can change anything! =96 It's easy! =96 I love my family =96 God is giving me peace =96 I have no fear =96I can do it - God is my coach!

This is closely connected to a winning attitude. So mind your words.

Our Actions and habits:

Beware of your actions because they could become your habit, which then could lead to a change in our personality and character. I've heard if you do the same thing for 21 days it could end up creating a habit in your life. If you take some exercises for 21 days, you will properly continue doing it. So if you complain about the same thing for 21 day you will continue to complain! And you will be like a complaining jukebox! Or you can decide to be a person of positive influence. Why not try it. Give it a chance and create some good and healthy habits in your life that will be integrated in your character. People are looking for others who have a strong character and who are a role model.

Habit and character will create your life. And the great thing is that you can help yourself! You have such a great future ahead of you, and you can do the impossible. I pray that the great potential in your life will be released. Start to dream, and do not be afraid of the impossible. The impossible is possible. God put something in you to help you on your life adventure. So, as I said earlier, step out on the water and walk on it!

Qualifications come when you follow the purpose, your dreams and goals. Your potential will be unlocked Don't be discouraged, but keep moving. Don't give up. Presidents and leaders were ordinary men, but they kept dreaming and trying even though they met opposition and faced discouragement.

Commit your work to the LORD, and then your plans will succeed.
It's been another tumultuous year in the music industry, a business that's seeing significant challenges to virtually every aspect of its business model, and that needs the pressure of such change as much as a polar bear needs a heat lamp. With peer-to-peer downloading of music that seems unstoppable no matter how many companies get shut down, bad press generated by poorly conceived punitive lawsuits against said file sharers, declining CD sales, increasing failure among traditional music retail stores, and well-known artists like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails striking out on their own and offering new releases online for free; it seems these days the music industry can't catch a break.

But with all of this doom and gloom, the one positive for the industry in 2007 has been a relatively strong live concert market. Nostalgia has been the order of the day, with classic rock acts continuing to hit the road, their numbers bolstered by reuniting 80's acts who've either got the itch as part of a midlife crisis, or who want to pad out their retirement income. Just look at the acts currently (week of November 20, 2007) holding the top fifteen spots on Pollstar's Top 50 list of concert tours:

1. Bon Jovi 2. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band 3. Van Halen 4. Celine Dion 5. Foo Fighters 6. Neil Young 7. Ozzy Osbourne 8. Tool 9. Billy Joel 10. The Police 11. John Mellencamp 12. Elton John 13. Stevie Wonder 14. The Spice Girls 15. Rage Against The Machine

I count four reunions (five if you include Springsteen touring with the E Street Band), one lounge act trying to escape Las Vegas, and a couple of relatively current bands. The rest will definitely fit nicely under the "nostalgia" umbrella - not that Billy Joel or Elton John aren't good or relevant, it's just that their music isn't what you'd typically expect a twenty year old to be rocking out to, as their first choice.

The numbers aren't all in yet, but the grosses are looking pretty good. While their tour actually began in 2005, The Rolling Stones' A Bigger Bang Tour wrapped up in the autumn of 2007 and made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-grossing concert tour in history. Just how big is that, you ask? They raked in $560,000,000 (US dollars) for the 144 dates they played. That's right, over half a billion dollars; almost four million dollars per night. Not bad pocket money.

Before we get all star-eyed about the dough that's being made hand over fist on touring though, there are a few reality checks to consider.

First of all, the record labels themselves seldom see any money from touring, so it's not like the concert revenue is helping to make up for declining CD sales. The artists themselves can find touring a very lucrative business, although even they don't typically see the bulk of the cash that's collected at the gates. According to industry averages, an artist can expect to net as much as thirty-five percent of ticket prices and fifty percent of merchandise sales for a show. The bulk of the take goes to paying promoters, road crews, venues, ticket sellers, and anyone else who has any involvement in the planning, marketing, running, setting up or cleaning up after a show.

Complicating the equation is the fact that ticket sales themselves have actually been relatively flat; as a matter of fact, they have shown a slight decline in some recent years. But, ticket prices have continued to increase significantly, especially among bands whose audience demographic skews toward the older, wealthier listener. According to Rolling Stone, the average concert ticket cost under =A318 in 1999, and in 2003 that had increased to over =A324. An LA Times investigation determined that the average price had climbed to =A330 for 2006, so clearly there is something more than simple inflationary pressure at work.

This key issue becomes the critical factor behind the ranking of top-grossing touring acts. Promoters charge what the market will bear, and a group with a history (like the Rolling Stones) or a significant pent-up demand due to a break-up (The Police) or tendency to have somewhat older fans (both The Rolling Stones and The Police) will allow the promoters to charge considerably higher ticket prices. So it's no surprise that the mega acts like The Stones, U2 and The Police can manage to tour, consistently pulling off premium ticket prices at multiple dates and ending up topping the concert charts, even though they may not have released a new CD in over twenty years.

Looking at numbers supplied by Pollstar (note: these have been rounded), you can easily see that relationship. In the 2005 concert year, the top concert gross list displayed what has become a familiar pattern: domination by nostalgia and classic rock acts, with the top five spots being held by The Rolling Stones, U2, Celine Dion, Paul McCartney, and The Eagles. Okay, Celine Dion is an odd one, but you can attribute that to gamblers in Las Vegas with more money than they know what to do with and a healthy bar tab.

The Rolling Stones captured the top spot by earning =A380 million with an average ticket price of =A365. U2 came in second, grossing =A368 million with an average ticket price of =A349. Look for a contemporary act on the top twenty list and you can find Coldplay in seventeenth spot, grossing =A311 million with an average ticket price of a much more modest =A319; Green Day hit number 12 with =A317 million on =A318 tickets. See the pattern? Even if Green Day or their promoters tried for the big payday at this point, would there be enough "kids" willing to shell out =A349 for tickets? Would they attract enough baby boomers to make up for the shortfall? I doubt it.

The relatively lower grosses don't mean other acts aren't doing well touring, it simply means they aren't playing as many gigs to as many fans, or they're not charging nearly as much for tickets. They can do quite well, just not well enough to make the big early retirement pay cheque.

So now we've established that 2007 has been a pretty good year to be a touring rock band and gotten the financial nonsense out of the way, which shows have actually been getting the buzz?

The Police rank up there pretty highly. At first people watched with morbid curiosity, half expecting the old tensions to resurface and end with Sting and Stewart Copeland beating the hell out of each other on stage - come on, admit it, you were hoping it would all go down at the show you saw. Despite a slightly rough start, showing the band was clearly out of practice after all these years; they quickly found their groove and played to sold out shows and excellent reviews. The critics were happy, and the fans couldn't buy tickets fast enough.

Rage Against The Machine was another of the most anticipated reunion acts, especially among the younger alternative rock set. The comic soap opera that has been Van Halen and David Lee Roth settled down enough to actually hit the road in 2007. Genesis reformed =96 at least the Phil Collins-led version of Genesis. Canadian progressive rockers Rush toured in support of their Snakes and Arrows CD. The Rock the Mic tour brought Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott together for a series of over 30 shows. According to Forbes magazine, the Dixie Chicks took less than a week to sell over =A322 million in ticket sales for 57 shows.

For the pre-teen and (possibly early teen) set, Disney's Hannah Montana has been "rocking" sold out venues everywhere. Another reunion of sorts, The Smashing Pumpkins, were also back in 2007, along with veterans Gordon Lightfoot, Van Morrison, John Fogerty, Rod Stewart, Roger Waters, Bob Dylan and Neil Young who all toured. Even occasionally befuddled rocker Ozzy Osborne has started out with Rob Zombie. Bon Jovi is selling tickets in a big way with favourable reviews, and old new wavers (is that a contradiction in terms?) Duran Duran and The Cure were on the road. Justin Timberlake got his groove on and Dane Cook proved that stand-up comics could sell out arenas too. Not to be left out in the cold by classic rockers and reunion acts, Incubus, Tool, Foo Fighters, Avril Lavigne, Mr. Avril Lavigne's band (Sum 41), Korn, Modest Mouse, Jimmy Eat World, Fallout Boy, Cake, Avenged Sevenfold, Band of Horses and Arcade Fire, all made representations for the alternative rock crowd.

So how is 2008 shaping up in terms of concerts? Obviously we can't predict too much at this stage, but I will be willing to throw this one out: tickets are going to continue to rise in price at a rate greater than inflation and the biggest grossing acts will once again be ageing rockers, with the ultimate combination of rocker and reunion topping the list. If the chemistry was right for their reunion concert in December, and if Robert Plant and Jimmy Page don't end up in fisticuffs, it just might be that Led Zeppelin may commit to a tour, and if that happens look for them to be at the top of the list by this time next year. But coming back full circle to the problem record labels are having with declining CD sales, mega group and thorn-in-the-labels-side, artists' rights champions Radiohead are also planning a 2008 world tour. Don't count them out either.

It's bound to be an interesting year. <bio>This article was written by Brad Moon for http://Viagogo.co.uk, a leading European ticket hub.
