New York has the Empire State Building, and Washington DC has the Washington and Lincoln Memorials. Almost every major American city can boast at least one major masterpiece of architecture. In San Francisco, that emblem is the Golden Gate Bridge, recognized as one of the most graceful steel spans in the world. A tourist's visit to the San Francisco Bay Area isn't complete without a panoramic vista of this gorgeous structure. This isn't a feat of engineering; instead, it is a work of art.

To truly appreciate the Golden Gate Bridge, one must first have a solid grasp of the history that lies behind it. Conceived in the boom years of the Roaring 1920's but constructed during the depths of the Great Depression, the Bridge represents American perseverance and determination. The great project was completed in 1937, and the Golden Gate Bridge stood as the longest steel suspension bridge in the world until 1964, when the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge was completed connecting the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn.

The Golden Gate Bridge garners wide praise for its aesthetics. The American Society of Civil Engineers declared it to be one of the modern Wonders of the World. According to Frommer's Travel Guides, it's "possibly the most beautiful, certainly the most photographed, bridge in the world."

Though the Bridge can be viewed from points across San Francisco, the best vistas are to be had from Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Surrounding the San Francisco Bay, the GGNRA is one of the most visited units in the National Park System. Over 13 million people come to this area each year to view the great red bridge, among other activities.

The Park is deceptively large, as it is not one contiguous land area, but rather a collection of parks that runs from northern San Mateo County down to southern Marin County. It runs along 59 miles of coast. The GGNRA shouldn't be confused, however, with Golden Gate Park, which is run by the city of San Francisco as a separate entity.

There is no shortage of things to do in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. On a warm summer day, it's not unusual to see people biking, rollerblading, and jogging on some of the countless well-maintained paths. In addition, photography is only one art form that is used to capture the majesty of the Golden Gate Bridge. Other artists employ paints, pencils, and sculpting clay to interpret the span.

A trip to the GGNRA isn't complete without a visit to its most infamous attraction. The island of Alcatraz has been the feature of countless movies. Although it hasn't housed prisoners since 1963, its since reopened as a museum. Its positively haunting to walk the halls of this chilling structure, once home to Al Capone and "Birdman of Alcatraz" Robert Stroud.

Spend a day or two exploring Golden Gate National Recreation Area; you're sure to appreciate the Bridge, along with all of the rest of the GGNRA has to offer. <bio>ZaZaGallery.
San Francisco is one of the most romantic cities to visit in California. There are a number of things for couples, both young and old, to see and do in the city. In this article, we will go in depth and cover some of the best romantic spots and attractions that San Francisco has to offer. We will also take the time cover some of the area's finest restaurants.

Part 1: See the City

When anybody comes to a new city for a vacation, the first thing that they want to do is see the city and take in all the sights and sounds it has to offer. In the case of San Francisco, there are a number of world famous tourist attractions, such as the Golden Gate Bridge or the Alcatraz Prison (maybe not the most romantic spot, but a very interesting visit regardless) that you should take the time to see. A must stop location for all couples who visit the city is Fisherman's Wharf. The area is the number one travel destination for those looking to relax in a lively atmosphere filled with street music and entertainment, shopping, and casual dining. A walk along the Wharf and the various piers during sunset is one of the most romantic things you can do in the city. Also, be sure to take a ride in the cable cars that will help you get anywhere you need to go around the city quickly. These cable cars cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

When in the Bay Area, no trip is complete without taking the time to visit the Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge features a parking lot--many couples will park and take a long walk along the sidewalks. If you do plan on walking the bridge, be sure to bring a jacket as it is often colder and much windier on the bridge, than it is in the city. There are also a good number of both biking and walking tours that will take you around the city and across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Part 2: Dining

San Francisco is very well known for the number of top notch restaurants it offers. Since we can't possibly touch on all of them, we will briefly mention a few of the most popular ones. Cote Sud is a great restaurant to enjoy French cuisine and was voted the best French restaurant in the Bay Area in both 2004 and 2005. A. Sabella's Seafood and Steaks is another top restaurant in the area and is perfect for any seafood lover. A Sabella's was voted the best restaurant in Fisherman's Wharf by the San Francisco Chronicle and is a great place to go for a romantic night out.

San Francisco is a wonderful city for couples to visit and is thought by many to be one of the most romantic places on the West Coast. There is a lot to do and see, but the whole environment is laid back and the weather is just perfect all year round, so be sure to spend a lot of your time outdoors just walking through the city, resting on one of the area's many sandy beaches, or taking in the sites and sounds San Francisco has to offer. <bio>Ron Zvagelsky has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
San Francisco is a city of great architecture which is engulfed by beautiful fog.
Sisel International released a press release on 8 June 2007 in response to the lawsuit issued against them by Neways International.

Neways was sold to Golden Gate Capital in 2006 and since the acquisition, Golden Gate has sold off assets such as the corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Utah. As with its acquisition of Herbalife, it seems Golden Gate are liquidating Neways in preparation of a sell off as a former shell of itself or to use the funds raised for other take-overs.

Sisel International is run by Darrick Mower and Tom Mower Junior, the sons of Tom and Dee Mower who were the founders of Neways International. It has a small range of nutritional products available but intends to bring to market a larger range of nutritional and personal health products that they claim will be the highest quality in terms of safety and effectiveness for consumers. It also claims to have a compensation plan that has ironed out all the foibles of other compensation plans currently available.

Neways International was the original company built by Tom Mower Senior and Dee Mower. It was sold to Golden Gate for an estimated $US700 million. As the Mower Mission was the core of building Neways, Sisel poses a threat to Neways because of the loyal distributor base following the Mower Mission and not the new Neways under Golden Gate's control.

Tom Mower Junior stated "We will aggressively defend our right to provide the greatest products anywhere. We aren't interested in taking cheap shots at our competitors." This seems to be the Mower way, getting on with the job. Further Darrick Mower stated "We recognize this lawsuit for what it is: a transparent attempt to slow by litigation the progress of what could become the greatest network marketing company in history."

Golden Gate had no comment preferring to let their lawyers do the talking in court.

Either way, the lawsuit is not good for millions of Neways distributors who remained loyal throughout the takeover. The whole company is reliant on the distributors continuing to sell products through their networks. These distributors are very loyal to harmful- ingredient-free products and now that the manufacturing facility has been sold, the integrity of the products themselves is in doubt.

Overall it looks as if Neways could be a house of cards ready to fall under Golden Gate's management. <bio>Kathy Hassed is a freelance writer. http://www.strictly-anything.com </bio>

Home to almost 8 million people, the San Francisco Bay Area provides the only real break in the coastal mountains of California making it one of the most ideal spot for living within the state. It is divided into 6 sub-regions (North Bay, San Francisco, East Bay, Peninsula, South Bay, and Santa Cruz) and composed of 10 counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, and Sonoma).

North Bay is a sub-region north of the Golden Gate Bridge, is separated by water from the rest of the Bay Area. It has numerous affluent communities and is probably the least urbanized among the 6 sub-regions. North Bay has many undeveloped parks, farmlands, and plantations. One popular location is Napa Valley, which is well-known for the world class red wines produced from its vineyards.

The City and County of San Francisco was once the largest city, in terms of population in the whole Bay Area. Although it no longer holds that distinction, it remains as the traditional, cultural, financial, and urban center of the region. The most famous landmark in this area is the Golden Gate Bridge, which spans the Golden Gate Strait, a water passage connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The bridge connects the city/county of San Francisco with Marin County in the North Bay.

The East Bay area is split into 2 regions, the Inner East Bay and the Outer East Bay. Inner East Bay, located along the bay's coastline, is more urban, densely populated, and has a more ethnically diverse population. Old buildings in the area suggest that it is one of the oldest developed regions. Outer East Bay, on the other hand, is composed of inland valleys separated from the Inner East Bay by hills and mountains. Its development dates back to less than 60 years ago and is mostly suburban to rural.

San Francisco Peninsula (or simply Peninsula) is the area between East Bay and San Francisco. It is composed of a series of towns, small cities, and suburban communities along San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

South Bay is the sub-region where the past blends well with the present and the future. The past is typically characterized by the city of San Jose, the oldest city in California, while the present and the future could be gleaned from the products churned by Silicon Valley. In 1990, San Jose became the most populated city in the area.

Santa Cruz, although regarded by most as part of Monterey Bay Area, some agencies and records show it as a part of San Francisco Bay Area. It is sprawled along San Francisco Peninsula, Santa Cruz Mountains, and Monterey Bay.

With tourism being the region's leading industry, the Bay Area is teeming with tourist destinations and historic landmarks. It is one of the wealthiest regions in the United States. Of the 280 metropolitan areas nationwide, the Bay Area has the highest median household income with $62,024. Six of the top ten places in California with the highest per capita income could also be found in the Bay Area. These figures are a testament of the boundless opportunities available for the citizens residing in the region.

With its idyllic setting and mild climate, living in the Bay Area is an investment that you can never be wrong about. <bio>Visit the beautiful State of California http://www.stateof-california.com/popular-city/popular-city.html, California information and places to visit with the entire family or business.
A short term bridge loan may be just what the doctor ordered if you are having trouble making ends meet. A short term bridge loan helps you to "bridge the gap" between your expenses and income. A bridge loan is not a long term solution, but it is an excellent short term solution to your money problems. If for some reason your income has been eclipsed by your expenses, you may need to borrow money to pay for those additional expenses until you get paid again.

It happens. For example, maybe a once-a-year payment has come due that you have simply not had the money to save up for it. House insurance, property taxes, or annual life insurance are all examples of when this can happen. Unfortunately, paying those things is not optional... especially if you want the service! Or maybe it is simply a mistake in your monthly <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/budgeting" rel="tag">budgeting and you find yourself short of cash one month. This happens to people during the Christmas season. Or maybe there was a once in a lifetime opportunity you couldn't pass up... but now you're paying for it! No need to worry about it! There's a solution.

Instead of defaulting on your expenses, you can now pay them with a short term bridge loan, then pay back the short term bridge loan over time.

A short term bridge loan allows you to take control of your finances again. But it comes with a warning!

Be sure that repaying your short term bridge loan is possible within your current budget! You don't want to have to take out a bridge loan to pay for your bridge loan! Secondly, if you are taking out bridge loans every month or two (even if you are paying them off regularly) that should be a warning sign that you have a budgeting problem that needs to be addressed. And when you have a budgeting problem, you either need to increase your income or decrease your expenses.

No one wants to live their life in poverty. There's no need to be hit hard by being a week or two short between your budget and your income. If that's the case, you can simply apply for a UK short term bridge loan as your solution! <bio>Tim Renolds is the creator of the http://www.loan-source.co.uk website. This website provides U.K. homeowners with free no obligation secured loan quotes. </bio>

From a topographic standpoint, Marin County is situated in just the right geographic location to reap the benefits of lower summer temperatures and more winter precipitation than its immediate neighbors to its north, Sonoma and Napa counties. Combining such weather patterns along with its terrain and rich fertile soils, Marin County's grape-growing season is extended beyond its neighbors because the fruit take longer to ripen. This results in a wide variety of wines that are more balanced, have a superb natural tang and maintain a lower alcohol level, usually under fourteen percent.

Because of its awesome landscape, its irregular climate, its viticultural tendencies and the high quality wines its wine industry produces due to its extended growing season, Marin County has been said to be much more similar to Burgundy, the world renowned giant of French wine country, than it is to Sonoma and Napa, the wine country of Northern California. And like Burgundy, Marin County produces the elegant Merlots, the Pinot Noirs and the Riesligs.

Marin County's viticulture began when the vitis vinifera grapes were introduced at the same time as San Rafael Mission opened its door. Wisely, the residents of Marin County immediately recognized the value of their natural assets and their potentials. Seemingly overnight and regardless of their size, just about every family in Marin County began to cultivate small vineyards on their own plots.

The vineyards that were established by the San Rafael Mission and worked by the local Native Americans were soon snatched by General Mariano Vallejo who first banished religion and than had the vineyards pull up and moved to his own lands in Sonoma County.

Vallejo's actions and the Prohibition in the 1920s significantly slowed the budding wine industry of Marin County but what truly brought it to a full stop was the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1937. With Marin County being conveniently reached via the new Golden Gate Bridge, all eyes turned away from its vineyards to its lands and housing.

With twenty-five winemakers of today, the wine industry is slowly being resurrected in Marin County. In spite of their efforts and the first-rate wines they produce, Marin County's wine industry is still being kept in the shadows cast by its gigantic neighbors, Napa and Sonoma Counties.

The Marin County Grape Growers Association has helped by encouraging and motivating its members to persist with their industrial endeavors. They meet every other week to acquire news about the industry, to brainstorm, to discuss and to inspire.

The fact is that Marin County has only 200 acres of vineyards and merely twenty-five wineries while Sonoma County has better than 40,000 acres and nearly 300 wineries and Napa County has 45,275 acres and 316 wineries. Those are facts indeed. But there is still one more fact that I would like to share with you and that fact is that Marin County had the extended growing season and produced the first-class cold-climate wines that Sonoma and Napa Counties could only dream about.<bio>Learn more about Marin County Real Estate and homes for sale in Marin County by visiting us today.</bio>

Making a wooden gate all by ourselves is an exciting adventure. If we do everything systematically it shouldn't be too hard. To build a wooden gate we need the right design for a specific purpose. There are some simple home projects which you do not need to go out and hire some expensive contractor or carpenter. One of these which you yourself can do is a wooden gate for your yard.

Relax, making a wooden gate all by ourselves is an exciting adventure and doesn't need to be hard or impossible. If we do everything systematically it shouldn't be too hard. To build a wooden gate we need the right design for a specific purpose.

In making a wooden gate ourselves the first thing we need to do is design it. This means we take exact measurements based on the width of the opening where we want to put up the gate. We also consider the height of the fence around it. Everything must be complementary, after all we want form and functionality, right?

Then we buy the needed wood pieces--4 by 4 inches latch and hinge posts, gate frames measuring 2 by 4 inches and picket wood pieces measuring 1 by 2 inches. These are mere suggestions; wood sizes may vary depending on our wooden gate design. We also need screws, some nails, 3 to 4 hinge sets, and the latch. The sizes and number of pieces depend on the size of the wooden gate.

We dig holes for the latch and hinge posts. A depth of 3 feet, more or less, ought to do. Insert one end of the posts into the holes and reinforce with rocks and earth intact at the sides to keep it from moving. Or pour concrete at the sides. Then we install horizontal frames for the wooden gate fitting the gateway. We also fix the gate hinges permanently to the hinge post.

Then we install the diagonal frames. Measure them to accurately fit the horizontal frames. To attach, drill holes through them and the horizontal frames and insert long screws. Mark spots, which are evenly spaced, allotted for the pickets. Use a square. Then attach them to the wooden gate using nails or screws at their bottom side. Two screws or nails each would do.

Finally, re-mount the wooden gate. Detach the gate to render the wood to a smooth finish and accurate fitting by scraping extra wood thickness. Then re-mount by attaching again to the hinges permanently. Make sure the wooden gate opens and closes to and from its jamb or latch post smoothly.

It is best to make the wooden gate right where we intend to install it. This enables us to get the actual measurement needed and base the wooden gate dimensions from it. Handle carpentry tools and materials with the greatest care and make sure to wear fitting gloves when hammering nails, driving screws, or cutting with a saw.

Make sure all tools are in good condition, like ensuring that the chisel or plain blades are sharp. Sharp tools make the work easier and safer. Wear a carpentry apron if necessary.

It's exciting to make our own wooden gate. We can start experimenting with our garden gate.<bio>John Grant is a the author for a how to site where he is writing articles about how to build a gate.</bio>

If you are after something a little different for your landscape and if you have quite a lot of space, you could easily build or fit a bridge. This is a perfect way to bring some extra class to the landscape which will look extremely impressive. If you have the creativity, you could incorporate a bridge easily into your landscape and it will not really take a long time either.

Are You Considering Adding a Bridge to Your Landscaping Project?

With all of the different ideas and features that you can add to a landscape, one of the most impressive has to be a bridge. It can offer a peaceful feeling to the landscape and it could even go over a pond or small water feature. This really would be an impressive feature to add to any garden and it will give you a sense of serenity too. The benefits are plain to see and if you are considering getting one, you really will notice the difference straight away.

Building and Adding a Bridge to Your Landscaping Project

If you design and make the bridge yourself, it may be hard work but it really will be worth it when it has been erected and installed into the landscape. If you do not want to do it yourself you can either get someone else to make one, or you could even buy a ready made one. To be able to create your own bridge from scratch you will need all of the right tools such as wood and nails and a bit of creativity would really help as well. You need to make the frame for the bridge first so that you can be as creative as you like for the shape.

What Can the Bridge Be Used For in the Landscaping Project?

When people place a bridge into their landscape, they usually use it to get from one part of the garden to the other. It could be that it leads up to a more secluded part of the garden. It can also be used to step over water features, a small lake or even a garden pond. This is where you can be creative and add whatever you want. You will just need to make sure that the bridge fits perfectly and that it is sturdy enough to walk over. Adding the extra features will help to compliment the bridge and it will make it look extremely impressive.

So, overall a bridge really can help to improve the overall look of the garden. If you do have the space it would be well worth adding one and you will instantly see the benefits as soon as it is all finished. <bio>Andrew Caxton use to write on lawn care and subjects for http://www.lawn-mowers-and-garden-tractors.com .
With some much attention being given to Northern Californian, there are new American Express Travel deals that are now available for travelers interested in seeing the many wonders of Northern California. Northern California is quickly becoming one of the most popular destinations for travelers interested in seeing more of the United States. Northern California is perfect for any type of travel enthusiast and has something to offer travelers of all ages. But Northern California is especially popular with travelers who are interested in the colorful and diverse history of the state.

Hearst's Castle

According to American Express Travel, the most popular tourist attraction in Northern California is located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Hearst's Castle is a resplendent estate left to the state of California as a California state park. Publisher William Randolph Hearst's 165-room estate was designed by noted Bay Area architect Julia Morgan. The Castle was built between 1919 and 1947 and was a popular destination for some of the most famous stars of classic Hollywood.

"It was so moving, so breathtaking, so amazing. I almost couldn't believe that what I was seeing was for real. I was nearly moved to tears by the sheer majesty," says Georgia Johnson, Director of Sales and Marketing for AMT Wedding Division. The Castle can only be viewed by taking one of four distinct guided tours offered daily. Evening tours are offered during the spring, fall and select holidays. The Castle is created out of ancient art and architecture that was imported from all over the world. Hearst's Castle is one mansion of history you don't want to miss.

San Francisco

Just north of Los Angles and Hollywood is San Francisco. The Bay area has a colorful past, and offers its tourist a wide variety of sights and entertainment. The most famous sight is the Golden Gate Bridge. Drive on it to read Golden Gate Park, where the best photographers go to find the best shots of the Gate.

In San Francisco itself, explore Fisherman's Warf. Pier 39 offers breathtaking views of San Francisco, the Bay, and Golden Gate Bridges, along with more than 110 unique shops and 13 restaurants. Pier 39 is home to the Riptide Arcade, the Aquarium of the Bay, and the famous sea lions that populate the beaches. Take a cruise to the infamous Alcatraz Prison, where Al Capon himself once stayed. Take tours of China Town, Nob Hill and Haight-Ashbury. And don't miss the high-class cuisine, the moving nightclubs and city ghost tours for evening entertainment. With so much to see and do, you'll never be bored.

Sacramento

Sacramento is the capitol of California, and offers a number of entertaining attractions. A Sacramento trip is not complete without taking a tour of the capital building. This 19th-century granite building is modeled after the U.S. Capitol. The capital is also home to the California Legislature and houses a public museum.

Make a stop to nearby old town Sacramento. This historic area consists of restored buildings, museums about the gold rush of 1849 and novelty shops, including hand made candy, brings life to the Sacramento waterfront. There are even play actors who will engross you in the rich history of the state. This is a must see for all history enthusiasts. That is why it is very important that you get a gate that is easy to open and close firmly. Do your best not to step over the gate, particularly when the youngster being protected is watching. You don't want the child to learn a bad habit.

Flexible Baby Gates. When thinking of baby gates we usually imagine wood or metal barriers. Not all safety barriers are made out of these materials. Some are made from Plexiglas or high-strength fabrics. As an example, the Kiddy Guard safety barrier protects children up to the age of two.

Baby Gates can be used in doorways and stairways, and normally expands up to 51 inches. These gates typically open and close much like a door. This makes them more suitable for areas you'll be walking through frequently. They can be mounted between two walls, two banisters or a banister and a wall. Hardware-mounted gates are intended to be installed into a solid wood surface. If your doorway or opening is already framed in wood you can install the gate without any preparation. If not, you'll have to install a Gate Mounting Kit, obtainable where you buy baby gates.

Baby Gate Warning. When looking for the right baby gate, it's vital to remember than some gates themselves are dangerous. As an example, accordion-style baby gates with large V-shaped openings along the top edge and diamond-shaped openings between the slats are a strangulation risk. Children who have tried crawling through these gates have died when their heads got trapped in the V-shaped or diamond-shaped openings. The hazardous accordion-style baby gates have not been sold since 1985, though you may still find them at yard sales or in thrift stores, so be alert! <bio>Much more information about http://www.baby-gates-e.com on this website.
Gold -- the idea, the image, the mental pictures that come to mind when you hear the word -- glorious, pre- cious, a symbol of love, power and strength.

All these words and images apply to gold, which, in its most natural form, is a valuable metal -- valuable, that is, to the eye of the beholder. As with anything, gold is measured by the worth to its owner -- and this is one commodity that has never suffered from lack of value -- material or personal.

It's one of the highest standards by which to live, history tells us: Man was always seeking gold, whether by chasing down a andquot;lost treasureandquot; or digging and pan- ning for it, as in California's famous andquot;Gold Rush.andquot;

It's classy, there's no doubt: It's in the titles and lyrics of timeless songs; the name of a proud landmark, The Golden Gate Bridge; America's Gold Coast; the andquot;gol- den oldie, andquot; otherwise known as the songs we adults grew up with and are now referred to as andquot;oldiesandquot;; The Golden Age, which applies to any period of time in which people enjoyed great happiness and prosperity; and, of course, The Golden Rule, taught to us all with great seriousness as youngsters.

And from the sublime to the ridiculous, let's don't forget andquot; The Golden Archesandquot; of McDonalds, the gold dig- ger, whom most of us have come across at least once in our lives; and the goldbrick, known both as a piece of brick that is either thought to be gold or is passed off as such, or the goof-off: The worker who regularly shirks his responsibilities.

But those are the exceptions, not the rule: This world is and has always been fascinated by gold, something truly valued as the finest of its kind, or more years than we can truly count.

Gold is in the dramatic, opulent castles of Europe, the majestic domes built in the Far East to symbolize glory to nation; in the steepled and imposing churches built throughout the centuries; in the magnificent, im- posing building known as the Vatican; and in one of the most-visited places on earth, simply because of its absolute grandeur, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, along the Euphrates River in Egypt.

In smaller, simpler ways, yet revered with equal grace, it is also present on the ring fingers of married or engaged couples, to symbolize love;

And, of course, we all know about the lucrative world of gold mining -- but some may not realize that this malleable metal, also a mineral, has been mined for literally thousands of years.

Today's gold mining industry continually strives to operate in an environmentally responsible manner -- protecting wildlife, reclaiming mined land, and using the newest forms of technology for safer environmental operations.

And so it goes; this timeless appreciation, protection, and continued search for one of the finest examples of elegance we know, will remain an endless process -- at least one thing we know will never disappear with the ravages of time. <bio>Yvonne Volante, the author, is a big fan of gold and writes for foilgold.com, which is the premier gold resource on the internet.
San Francisco offers a wide variety of attractions for the locals, visitors and tourists. The possibility of things to do in the city seems to be endless. However, the "Top Things to do" in San Francisco involves visits at the waterfront, around town, and on the city's ocean and bay fronts.

One spectacular sight at the Waterfront of San Francisco is the "Golden Gate Bridge" the most photographed sight in the world. It stretches 4,200 feet with a towering height compared to a 65 story building. A walk at the bridge is one of the most enjoyable things to do.

Another popular sight of San Francisco's Waterfront is the Alcatraz, a former prison for the notorious criminals. The interesting part to do at this place is the self-walking guided tour through the aid of headphones that narrates the whole story of about Alcatraz.

Half a dozen blocks along the Waterfront are the Fisherman's Wharf, Pier39, and Ghirardelli Square. Simply walking along the streets, your attention will be caught by some entertaining performers. The street also has plenty of tempting souvenir shops and great seafood restaurants.

Around the town of San Francisco is Union Square -- the third largest shopping area in the United States. It is a fabulous place to shop for clothes, art works and items for your home -- but make sure that you have enough money because prices are quite expensive.

A must see attraction in San Francisco is the "Crookedest Street in the World" or simply Lombard Street. Watching the vehicles make their curves as they go down the crooked street is a great a attraction and a marvel to the eye. Others have said that it is much more interesting to experience the crooked section of the street by riding or driving a car.

San Francisco also has many places for antiques that you can visit. One of these places is the Cliff House where you can find the Camera Obscura that was invented by Leonardo Da Vinci. The Cliff House is also a very nice place for a drink because it offers excellent views of the Pacific Ocean and Seal Rock.

The place in San Francisco where there's always something to do is at North Beach. North Beach is full of activities, but most involve eating. The area has tons of cafe's, restaurants, delicatessens, and bakeries for you to choose from.

There are other plenty of things that you can do in San Francisco...the possibilities here are truly endless. <bio>Ron Zvagelsky has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
Believe me or not, that's the plain truth. According to the various Labrador Breed Associations and national kennel clubs, Labs come in just three recognized colors -- and golden is not one of them.

However, if you go browsing through advertisements for dog kennels, you can't help but notice that there are many ads that loudly proclaim that they breed golden Labrador Retrievers. And by that, they do not mean a Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever mix (which are also known as Golden Labrador Retrievers). They actually saying a golden colored PUREBRED Labrador Retriever.

Suspected Scam

The only three recognized colors of purebred Labrador Retrievers are yellow, black and chocolate (which used to be called liver). Yellow Labrador Retrievers have there are many shades of their yellow hair. Some are so pale that they are called "white", even though their papers will call them yellow. The darkest shade of yellow is sometimes called "gold". But still, even the darkest golden Labrador Retriever will not compare to the luster of a Golden Retriever.

Sadly, like PT Barnum said, "there's a sucker born every minute". These kind of people will believe whatever they are told. If they are told that there is such a thing as a purebred golden Labrador, they will break open their wallets and buy one. Even when they can clearly see that the puppy's color is yellow, they think the "golden" label means "premium" and they will buy the so-called "golden Labrador Retriever" at higher price, over the identical-looking "yellow Labrador Retriever".

Golden Lab Is Not Always Better Than A Yellow Lab

If you do discover that your pricey "golden Labrador Retriever" is simply a yellow Lab, take it easy. Your dog will still be loyal and comical and loving. Keep the dog. But by all means, complain to the Better Business Bureau about how the dog was represented. It would help if you had a copy of the original ad that lead you to the kennel and a copy of the contract. You did get a contract with your "golden Labrador Retriever", didn't you? If not, there's ANOTHER thing to complain about.

If you had your lab from a rescue shelter and your lab was listed as a purebred golden Labrador Retriever, the staff just made a common mistake. Don't rip into them about it -- they are doing the best they can. You could write a thank you letter about how well you are getting on with your rescue dog and just casually mention that, officially, there is no such thing as a purebred golden Labrador Retriever. Once that is done, concentrate on building up a great friendship with your new Lab of whatever color.

Closing Words

If you already have a golden labrador retriever, don't stop caring for your lab even now you know that he (or she) is not a purebred. Telling about this fact you have just learned to people around you that is considering to buy a labrador retriever would be something valuable. For them and for yourself.<bio>Discover more about labrador retriever at labrador fans website.</bio>

A traveller to Italy can never miss visiting the wonderful Ponte Vecchio. Ponte Vecchio is Europe's oldest wholly stone, closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge built over the Arno River in Florence. Also called as the Old Bridge, Ponte Vecchio houses a number of jewelry shops selling antique and designer jewelry.

The structure and idea behind the entire architectural piece and the surrounding area is exceptionally splendid and a visit to the bridge would add a real value to a tourist's itinerary.

You can watch videos of Ponte Vecchio and the Arno banks on You Tube here <a href="http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=old+bridge+florence" >http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=old+bridge+florence and read the description of a pleasant walk near the river provided by this florence hotel http://www.rosarygarden.it/florence_art.phtml

History of Florence Old Bridge

It is believed that this bridge was first built during the Roman times with wood. In 1333, a flood severely destroyed it after which it was again rebuilt with stone in 1345. Taddeo Gaddi was the master brain behind the design of this marvelous piece. In 1565, Cosimo I de Medici got the famous Vasari Corridor above the bridge. The architect this time was Giorgio Vasari and the corridor connected the Palazzo Vecchio (Florence's town hall) with the Palazzo Pitti.

Down the ages, the bridge had been a huge shopping complex. Originally, shoppers preferred this place due to some tax exemptions. Since 1942, a corporate association of butchers had monopolized this bridge. To maintain the dignity of the bridge, Cosimo I de Medici prohibited the meat shops here. Immediately, gold merchants took the place.

Interesting facts

It was believed that locking padlocks in the structure of the bridge and throwing away the key into the river would unite lovers for eternity. There were numerous padlocks locked to various places especially in the railings around the statue of Cellini. Since this practice would spoil and damage the ancient bridge, thousands of padlocks were removed from time to time. Recently, the government has displayed a penalty of 50 euros for those caught doing this.

With explicit orders from Hitler, Ponte Vecchio was the only bridge left undestroyed by Germans during their retreat in 1944.

It is believed that the word and the idea of bankruptcy originated here on the bridge. When a merchant did not pay his debts, the table on which he had displayed the goods (banco) was broken by soldiers (rotto). Not having a table anymore, the merchants were not able to sell any more.

Architectural facts

Ponte Vecchio consists of three segmental arches. The span of the main arch is 30 meters. The two side arches span about 27 meters. The arch rises between 3.5 to 4.4 meters. Span to rise ratio of the bridge is 5:1.

Tourist Information about this wonderful spot in Florence

The central chamber of the bridge is exposed to an area with vaulted pillars offering a stunning view of the river Arno. During summer, one can see the bridge filled with visitors, street performers and portrait painters making it a highly entertaining and thrilling experience for the tourists. On a clear day, it is a fantastic sight to view the bridge during sunset, which adorns the bridge with golden and yellow hues. Standing over Ponte Santa Trinita, one can have a great view of Ponte Vecchio while it is illuminating the night of Florence. <bio>Dan Ganz is a freelance copy-writer currently travelling around Italy.
Ponte Vecchio is probably the most worldwide celebrated bridge in Florence: the modern architectural structure we can see today consisting of three stone arches, and followed in 1565 to a old wooden bridge built in the ancient Roman times. The first wooden building dates back to 972 and was smashed by a flood in Florence in 1117. The most beautiful architectural part is surely an opening midway of the bridge that offers a stunning view of the river Arno and its shoreline (The shore it's pretty visible, because there's not a lot of water in the river!).

The Bridge

Ponte Vecchio is Europe's oldest wholly-stone segmental arch bridge. There are three arches, the main arch of 30 meters, and the side ones of 27. The Medici family, in 1953, prohibited butchers from selling in Ponte Vecchio, thus enforcing the bridge dignity; the butchers were rapidly replaced by gold merchants.

The Shops and the Vasarian Corridor

Today, the bridge stages numerous jewellery shops trading antiquities and gold and silver selections. Above the shops runs the Vasary Corridor, a long passage built in 1565 for order of Cosimo I De' Medici Duke of Florence, which crosses the suspension bridge and link the Uffizi Gallery and Palazzo Pitti.

Ponte Vecchio, during World War II, has been the only Florence Bridge not destroyed by the Nazis during the retreat in the August of 1944; but the Arno flood, the one of 1966, severely damaged the bridge and the jewellery shops.

Ponte Vecchio is really the most evocative route you can take in Florence historical centre: probably one of the most romantic bridges in the entire world. I don't know if it's true, but it's really impressive=85 <bio>You can easily attain Ponte Vecchio in only 5 minutes from this 3 star http://www.hotelcolomba.com Florence hotel in the heart of the historical centre of Florence. </bio>
