Crohn's disease is a systemic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) of unknown cause, that results in chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract.

It can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus, and can also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract.

The incidence of Crohn's disease in North America is 6:100 000, and is thought to be similar in Europe, but lower in Asia and Africa Unlike the other major inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis, there is no known medical or surgical cure for Crohn's disease.

Many medical treatments are however available for Crohn's disease with a goal of keeping the disease in remission.

Many patients with Crohn's disease have symptoms for years prior to the diagnosis. Because of the patchy nature of the gastrointestinal disease and the depth of tissue involvement, initial symptoms can be more vague than with ulcerative colitis.

Common initial symptoms of Crohn's disease include the following; Abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, and peri anal discomfort.

Typically, Crohn's disease only affects areas of the large intestine. Because Crohn's disease is most commonly associated with the large intestine, the most common symptoms are diahrea or constipation, and abdominal pain and cramping.

Like all autoimmune disorders, Crohn's disease is a pretty serious condition, and there isn't really any cure for it. There are some new treatments available, but nothing that will cure it outright.

Some people seem to get occassionaly flare ups from their Chorn's disease, but more or less live normal lives. Others suffer from chronic flare ups their entire lives, which can sometimes lead to more serious complications.

The medications you take if you are having a flare up are basically immunosuppressant sorts of drugs and of course steroids, neither of which aren't really all that pleasant to take. They both have a lot of side effects, and the immunosupressants boost your chances of getting some kind of opportunistic infection. <bio>Crohn's disease is a progressive disease of the gastro-intestinal tract that is considered an autoimmune disorder. http://1crohnsdisease.info </bio>

It is a disrupting condition in which sufferers usually experience gastrointestinal discomfort and bowel habit variability. Although, info on irritable bowel syndrome shows that the symptoms are extensive and reminiscent to other gastrointestinal disorders, it can be diagnosed by eliminating other conditions that have similar signs, and investigating the patient's history and physical symptoms.

Aside from the main symptoms of abdominal pain and bowel habit changes, there are also other symptoms, which present themselves with irritable bowel syndrome.

Some of these symptoms include abdominal bloating or gassiness, presence of mucus in the stool and a feeling of not having been completely emptied after a bowel movement.

Bowel habit alterations are either predominately diarrhea or constipation depending on the variety of muscle contractions in the intestines. Although, some people can alternate between diarrhea and constipation.

The disorder is long-term in nature but is manageable and can be treatable, and the condition causes no physical changes or damage to the Gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Even in children, if they have IBS, there has been seen to be no effect on their development or growth.

The exact cause or trigger for IBS is still unknown. One explanation is that it may be caused by faulty communication between the brain and the intestinal tract, which causes muscle contractions thereby altering the digestive process presenting the symptoms of abdominal cramping and inconsistent bowel movement.

Neurotransmitters can be seen as chemicals in the brain that act as information carriers to the rest of the body. It is thought that with some IBS sufferers certain elements and hormones throughout the body may have been altered or inappropriately produced due to stress, sudden hormonal changes or immunological response.

These interactions between the neurotransmitters and the intestines may adversely affect the signals in the digestive system and so cause muscle spasms and contractions in the intestines. As spasms and contractions intensify, it can lead to the common symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

Some theories suggest that irritable bowel syndrome stems from the presence of a previous disease, virus or condition.

Continue reading to discover how you can sign up for our free newsletter and find out what really works to relieve IBS.

IBS itself can not be the cause of other graver illnesses like inflammatory bowel disease, appendicitis or ovarian cancer.

Studies have shown that those with IBS seem to have hypersensitive intestines which react more powerfully and frequently to stimuli. Pain or cramping is usually the most common symptom as nerve endings in the gastrointestinal tract are often irritated.

There are speculations whether food allergies trigger irritable bowel syndrome. As a preventive measure, it is recommended to try a hypoallergenic diet and keep a food diary to gather as much info on irritable bowel syndrome, and the foods that may trigger your condition as possible. <bio>Sign up for Susan Reynolds' free IBS newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about info on irritable bowel syndrome at http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/?source=is </bio>

If suddenly you find yourself suffering from a gluten allergy you are not alone. It's important to learn to live with a gluten allergy and the best way to do that is to understand the allergy.

With a gluten allergy your immune system will respond to the gluten which is found in a variety of foods that have the proteins found in cereal grains. The difference between a wheat allergy and a gluten allergy is Celiac a disease of the gastrointestinal tract.

Not everyone but a majority of people that suffer from a gluten allergy will develop Celiac which targets the gastrointestinal tract. In fact it wasn't until recently when it was determined that Celiac was caused by a gluten allergy. Prior there had been no connection made.

A person suffering from a gluten allergy must ensure that they have a gluten free diet. When diagnosed with Celiac disease one must ensure that their diet is gluten free to ensure that the problems associated with Celiac are avoided.

When a gluten allergy turns into Celiac disease the biggest problem is that it does not just affect the gastrointestinal tract, it also affect the brain causing brain dysfunction, inflammation of the lungs, and arthritis.

The classic symptoms that accompanies a gluten allergy that has become Celiac is diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating, weight loss, iron deficiency, and malnutrition as a result of not absorbing the nutrient. And that's just the beginning of what this dreadful disease can do.

For example a gluten allergy can actually affect the tissue causing eczema, skin rashes and itching, and it can even cause hives. It can also cause respiratory problems including asthma and it can cause

Arthritis will develop in about 45% of those suffering from a gluten allergy that do nothing about it and about 15% in those that change to a gluten free diet. Those with Celiac see an increased risk of esophagus, pharynx, and small intestinal cancer. Fibroid lung disease is also seen at a much higher rate than in those that do not have Celiac or a gluten allergy.

Recently studies have shown that a gluten allergy is often combined with a dairy allergy. If you know you have a gluten problem it's a good idea to replace dairy products with soy products or some other alternative.

Be sure to include natural supplements in your diet when suffering from a gluten allergy. There are several things they can do for you. They can replace the nutrients you are missing because of a diet that is gluten free and they can help restore the body to health and build the immune system back up to a healthy state.

With a gluten allergy you want gluten free diet will have no wheat, barley, rye in any form. The best diets are made up of foods that are good for you and also foods that taste good. Try to make the changes so as not be depressed by a long list of what you can't eat. You gluten free diet should be comprehensive.

A gluten allergy can be a tough diagnosis to hear but once you know what's wrong it's much easier to start making yourself feel better. <bio>Get all the latest information about allergies, from the only true source at http://www.1allergyinformation.com Be sure to check out our gluten allergy pages. </bio>

Researchers have yet to find a specific cause for irritable bowel syndrome or IBS. It is known as a functional disorder, which means that the way the bowel words is affected. However, there are yet to be found any physical abnormalities that can explain the symptoms.

One theory that has been proposed is that people who have IBS have a large intestine, or colon, that is quite sensitive and reactive to both stress and certain foods. It is thought that the immune system may also be involved.

Symptoms of IBS seem to be caused by contractions of the muscle in the bowel wall some researchers think. These contractions are thought to be stronger and more frequent in people that have IBS. The contractions seem to worsen after eating certain foods and in stressful situations. If a person is intolerant to certain foods such as dairy products, tea and coffee, it may trigger symptoms.

IBS may often develop after a bout of gastroenteritis which is an inflammation not only of the stomach but also of the bowel linings. This often causes diarrhea and sickness. An infection with a bacteria or virus may be the culprit here as well as food poisoning.

These are some other causes of IBS which you may want to think about:

Normal movement, or motility, may be absent in the colon of someone who has IBS. The motility can be spasmodic, also called a spastic colon or it can even temporarily stop working. Spasms are strong and sudden muscle contractions that may come and go periodically.

The lining of the colon which is also known as the epithelium is affected by both the immune and nervous systems. It regulates the flow of fluids both in and out of the large intestine or colon. In a person who has IBS, the epithelium seems to work properly.

However, when the contents inside of the large intestine move too quickly, the colon is not able to absorb the fluids. This results in watery stools. In other people, the movement inside of the colon is much too slow.

This causes any extra fluid to be absorbed, and thus the person suffers from constipation.

With a person who is suffering from IBS, their colon may respond very strongly to certain foods or to stress that would normally not bother other people.

Recent research has found that serotonin and normal gastrointestinal functioning are linked together. Serotonin is a chemical, or neurotransmitter, that delivers messages from one body part to another. Approximately 95% of the serotonin in a person's body is found in the GI tract, and the other 5% is located in the brain. Cells which line the inside of the intestines work as transporters and work at carrying the serotonin out of the gastrointestinal tract. People who suffer with IBS do not have as much receptor activity as normal people, and this causes a build-up of serotonin in the GI tract. As a result, people with IBS suffer from problems with bowel movement, sensation and motility since they have more sensitive pain receptors located in their GI tract.

Researchers also have reported that IBS may be linked to a bacterial infection in the GI tract. Studies have been documented that people who have had a bout of gastroenteritis may sometimes develop IBS.

These are the main causes of irritable bowel syndrome. If you think that you may be suffering from this disease, it would be wise to consult your physician. <bio>Article written by Jessica Bradbury, she has a site dedicated to bottom line information on IBS at http://www.ibs-information.com </bio>

You may have heard the term Probiotic from friends and family but never knew what it was. In this article we will discuss good bacteria and its benefits to the body, who may need to supplement probiotics in their diet and where to find them. For those who have never heard of probiotics, this term is given to bacteria found in our intestinal tract also known as friendly bacteria.

The human gastrointestinal tract houses more than 400 different live beneficial bacteria. Among these good bacteria include L. acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum, the two most abundant friendly bacteria found in the gastrointestinal tract must keep balance with bad bacteria such as E.coli or your health starts to decline. If you suspect you have a problem in your GI tract, some of the health problems you may be experiencing are poor digestion, headaches, and intestinal yeast an overgrowth of the bacteria candida albacans which can make life unpleasant.

L. Acidophilus produces acidphilin, lactic acid, and hydrogen peroxide which together produce an antimicrobial agent in the GI tract which fight against foreign environmental borne pathogens. This effect also enhances the immune system as well as boost the digestion of foods, help alleviate digestive disorders, help prevent bad breath, enhance the synthesis (production) of B vitamins, help with calcium absorption, help as an anti-tumor and anti-cancer agent, help in the digestion of dairy products like milk, and fight against excess yeast growth such as candida.

The benefits of acidophilus, bifidus, and other probiotics to maintain proper GI health have been demonstrated by the scientific community for several years now. If your digestive system is in poor health, this poor GI condition can further reduce the levels of acidophilus and supplementation is required to restore your system to proper health.

If you have ever suffered from candida, you know with out a doubt that probiotic supplementation is a must. By supplementing with a good probiotic one can stop yeast over growth, boost the immune system, and rebuild their GI bacteria. The fastest way to destroy probiotics in the intestinal tract is by taking an antibiotic. In the past few years, doctors have been over prescribing antibiotics for every little sniffle and cold, even those with a yeast infection in the GI tract. Antibiotics are great for fighting bacteria and in some cases you just can not get around taking one; but the use of an antibiotic will destroy all the probiotics in your GI tract. Research has determined that 70% of your immune system resides in your intestinal tract, by taking an antibiotic you can knock out your immune system if you do not restore it with a good probiotic supplement. In North America, environmental toxins, food toxins, and a high stress life style can reduce the probiotic population in your GI tract as well. Note: if you are currently on an antibiotic do not take your probiotic at the same time that you take your prescribed antibiotic. The antibiotic will destroy the probiotic. Allow 2 =96 3 hours between applications. If you consume your antibiotic at 12noon wait till 2pm or 3pm before taking your probiotic. This will help prevent the antibiotic from completely destroying all life in your intestinal tract.

There are several sources one can get probiotics from, by a food source or in supplement form found at your friendly health food store. Foods high in probiotic culture consist of natural cheeses, yogurt, kefir, and buttermilk. These are perhaps the best food sources for probiotics. Some other foods like wheat grass, spirulina, and chlorella are also rich in probiotics and are also packed with vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that can boost the immune system and help detoxify the body. For those of you who are allergic to the list of foods first mentioned (dairy), an alternative to those food sources is a good enteric coated probiotic from your friendly health food store in capsule form. Whether you choose to eat foods high in probiotics or visit your friendly health food store, getting a daily infusion of probiotics can improve your health and quality of life. <bio>Please visit VitaNet Health Foods at http://vitanetonline.com/ VitaNet sells high quality probiotics like Kal brand Acidophilus probiotic 4 to boost Intestional flora and overall wellness. Yes, Irritable Bowel Syndrome can certainly interrupt your hot date and incredibly impact your life.

Defined as a functional disorder of the gastrointestinal tract, IBS is thought to impact almost 15-20% of the adults in the United States. Characterized by recurrent abdominal pain and discomfort accompanied by changes in normal bowel function, such as loose or more frequent stools, diarrhea, constipation or often a combination of both, typically occurring over months or years, IBS is most often seen in women with females making up almost 70% of those diagnosed with the disorder.

Gastroenterologists, physicians who specialize in the medical treatment of disorders of the stomach and intestines, most often manage the care of IBS sufferers and IBS is the most common disease diagnosed by this group of doctors. And if that weren't impressive enough, IBS is also one of the most common disorders seen by primary care physicians today.

IBS is thought to be a result from a disturbance in the communication between the gastrointestinal tract, the brain, and the autonomic nervous system, specifically the portion of the nervous system that alters the regulation of bowel motility (motor function) or sensory function.

Regardless of the specific cause, those suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome need not have one more hot date ruined by symptoms of this disorder. Antioxidants are compounds that can oxidize very easily, or in other words sacrifice one of their molecules to carcinogens, which are compounds looking to steal molecules from normal, healthy cells.

Carcinogens, or free radicals, in the body are considered cancer causing agents because they damage the body's cells by stealing molecules. This can cause the cells to grow out of control, thus developing into cancer cells.

Green tea is thought to be extremely beneficial because the tea leaves are fresh and unfermented, thus preserving the antioxidants, called catechins, present in the leaves. The tea leaves come from the plant Camellia sinensis, which is the same plant that black tea comes from. The difference lies in how the leaves are treated. . T

he black tea leaves undergo the oxidation process, which oxidizes much of the specific antioxidants that are present in the green tea leaves. Of course, black teas have been found to contain many beneficial and unique antioxidants of their own, but do not contain the same amount of antioxidants as green tea.

These catechins found in green tea are considered better and stronger antioxidants than those found in black tea because they are water soluble and oxidize very easily, giving them a better chance of neutralizing free radicals before they have that chance to damage the body's cells.

There are currently 30 epidemiological studies of green tea's use in the prevention of cancer. However, there are very few studies on the treatment of preexisting cancers with green tea. A majority of the studies on green tea deal with whether the antioxidants present in the tea leaves help prevent gastrointestinal cancers.

One particular study on laboratory rats showed that 93.8% of a group of rats fed the extracted catechins from green tea survived after exposure to a strong mammary carcinogen (DMBA). This is compared to only 33.3% of the control group of rats not fed the protective catechins.

In another study was conducted on 1004 Chinese men: 190 of who had gastric cancer, 42 of whom had esophageal cancer, and 772 of whom were cancer free.

These men were studied over the course of 4 to 12 years. Those participants who were known to drink green tea on a regular basis showed a 50% lower risk of developing gastric and esophageal cancers.

This is a significant difference. It basically means that 50% fewer participants in the tea drinker's group developed cancer than of those in the group found not to drink tea on a regular basis.

There are a total of about eight studies that show drinking green tea on a regular basis can reduce the risk of stomach cancer. It's possible that green tea is also more effective in the prevention of esophageal and stomach cancers because it moves through the intestinal tract and is in direct, prolonged contact with those tissues.

Many researchers are saying that it is still too early to state conclusively that green tea can help to protect its drinkers from developing gastrointestinal cancers or even help fight the cancer that has all ready developed.

However, the current clinical studies look promising. Many tea drinkers claim the possible benefits of drinking green tea outweigh any small inconveniences.

Green tea has been used for hundreds of thousands of years in China and Japan. In fact, the numbers indicating the risks of developing gastrointestinal cancers in those two countries are among the lowest in the world

Not all green teas are the same. There is a wide variance among green teas concerning freshness, consistency, and concentration of the antioxidants in the teas. Information about the concentration of the antioxidants can sometimes be found on the packaging.

It is best to find your preferred brand of green tea and stick to it, drinking the tea habitually. <bio>Marcus Stout is President of the Golden Moon Tea Company.
There are new studies for relief for arthritis pain. The purpose of the study was to compare the effects of two common drugs on the gastrointestinal tract. This can make it easier for people who suffer from arthritis choose the right drug for their pain management program.

Arthritis patients who take the COX-2 inhibitor etoricoxib experience fewer incidence of upper gastrointestinal clinical events, symptoms and problems, than in patients who took the NSAID* diclofenac, according to an Article in The Lancet.

This information will assist with the treatment of arthritis, and when physicians need to make decisions concerning pain management.

NSAIDS are a long term arthritis treatment. However, they increase the risk of upper gastrointestinal clinical problems including, but not exclusive to, bleeding ulcers. Previous trials did not simulated standard clinical practice because gastrointestinal protective therapies like proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) were not allowed.

Loren Laine (University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, Los Angeles, USA) and colleagues analyse data from three randomised trials from the MEDAL (Multinational Etoricoxib and Diclofenac Arthritis Long-term) programme to assess the effects of the two drugs in a setting that simulates real-world practice, in patients with gastrointestinal risk.

Upper gastrointestinal clinical problems were less common with etoricoxib than with diclofenac, but only in simple cases. The more serious complicated events showed no significant difference whether patients took PPIs or asprin.

The authors of the study concludes: "The results of the MEDAL programme provide new information about upper gastrointestinal clinical events and symptoms to assist arthritis patients and their physicians to make decisions regarding NSAID use."

In an accompanying Comment, Joost Drenth and Freek Verheugt (Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands) stated in an email, unofficially: "Though eterocoxib reduced upper gastrointestinal events, the effect was only small as 259 patients need to be treated to prevent one uncomplicated gastrointestinal event. The alternative, addition of a PPI to standard NSAID might be less expensive, potentially less cardiotoxic, and advantageous in terms of reducing dyspepsia, but here confirmation needs a randomised trial."

Arthritis can drastically reduce the quality of life. Suffering from gastric problems, caused by drugs, can further reduce the quality of life. There is relief for arthritis patients, but they need to consult their physician before changing drugs or embarking on a pain management program.

Pain can help arthritic patients understand what is wrong with their bodies and correct the problem instead of masking the pain. There are supplements and practices that will help reduce the joint damage and inflammation that causes many types of arthritis.

Jumping on every new drug study may have negative effect on the body. Patients suffering from joint pain need to understand that other factors, like stress and weight, will cause arthritis and the level of pain suffered.

However, patients who are suffering from gastric problems may find some relief in the results of this test. It may give their physician an alternative to their current pain management program.

Patient empowerment is a strong element in patient care today and patients are encouraged to research pain management programs and make suggestions that fit their lifestyles, while still working with their physician's program and techniques. <bio>Ethan Miller advises on improving your heath and reducing pain from his web site at http://www.acnerescue.com

He invites you to get his FREE health guide http://www.acnescarsmagic.com </bio>

Crohn's Disease is a disorder that most commonly affects the colon or small intestine. Crohn's disease is chronic and causes inflammation of the digestive or gastrointestinal tract. Crohn's belongs to a category of illnesses known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). One disease related to Crohn's is known as ulcerative colitis, and also belongs to IBD category of disease. The symptoms of both diseases are very similar and it is often difficult to accurately diagnose. Nearly one in ten of ulcerative colitis and misdiagnosed as indeterminate colitis. The strong, and to some what, identical symptoms of the two diseases both show signs or cause the response of the bodies immune system to be described as abnormal.

in our immune system we have cells and proteins to protect us. attacks often occur on intestinal bacteria or microbes thinking they are foreign and so begin attacking what is in fact cells that occur naturally in our bodies. This process inevitably causes ulcerations and bowel injury. This occurs because the white blood cells that move in to affected area produce chronic inflammation. These are the symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Crohn's disease can affect the gastrointestinal tract and is most commonly found at the beginning of the large intestine and the end of the small intestine. The other disease mentioned earlier, ulcerative colitis, is only seen to occur in the colon, and only affects the superficial layers of the colon. It usually begins at the anus and moves progressively towards the colon. In Crohn's disease, all layers of the bowel can be involved and the disease can affect different isolated areas within the bowel.

What the exact cause of IBD is still unknown. It seems to appear that the immune system once turned on, knows not how to turn it's self back off. Some studies suggest that foreign particles trigger the immune system defenses, but there is no conclusive evidence to back up this theory. You may be wondering just how safe are you from developing an IBD disorder. Again there is very little known about this but it can be caused by a complex interaction of factors. Some of the factors that may contribute to someone developing Crohn's disease are environmental factors, human genetics, possibly hereditary, and the immune system itself. Many scientists now believe that it is foreign bodies (virus or bacteria) that trigger a response of the immune system to fight, and then lead to the disease it's self when immune system is unable to stop. <bio>Janie Jonah http://www.perfectdrugrx.com (c) 2006, PerfectDrugRx.
A homemade colon cleanse, from the name sounds really medical. However, in reality, it is much more simple after the initial hurdles are crossed and after one gains confidence with a straightforward detoxification plan. For the layman, the colon is the last part of the alimentary canal or the route which the eaten food takes after entering the body. It is through this small tract that the food (now waste) finally leaves the body and its healthiness ensures the well being of the person. One needs to keep it particularly in good shape as important physiological processes are associated with the colon.

These facts are quite enough to make even the laziest of men go in for a homemade colon cleanse. But then how does one go about doing a personal treatment, this is the main issue. Speaking more traditionally, several people have opted for natural ways only like eating proper food and not going in for junk food binges like burgers, pizzas and chips. Then another popular method to keep the tract clean is through the constant use of natural herbs and plants, especially those which have been mentioned in the ancient Indian medicinal systems and other oriental medical practices. Ayurveda is one really upcoming alternative to natural cure and is already sought by more than a hundred thousand people in Europe alone. Apart from these methods, there are several other man made procedures which are equally popular and these include enemas, colon cleansing kits, simple pills to loosen the parts or a medical session. But which is the best? This question is purely subjective and depends from person to person. An enema may suit a gentleman more than a lady who would prefer to go in for a more pill oriented or herbal approach which is not so difficult.

Before actually divulging into the precise details of the procedures which are involved, a few medical facts will perhaps make this remedy a more interesting and important one, even to the casual reader. The Royal Society of Medicine in the United Kingdom states that over ninety percent of chronic ailments are due to a malfunctioning gastrointestinal tract and these ailments can be treated effectively. According to a survey by a major English University, almost 5 million people in Europe and more than a 100 million Americans suffer from at least one kind of digestive disorder or sickness in the gastrointestinal tract. Infection in the alimentary canal is very common across all the people in the world no matter what their nationality. Many doctors believe that this is purely the result of improper eating habits which then meddles with the natural digestion processes. Another disturbing fact which was highlighted by this survey was that at least one in twenty of them would later develop rectal or colonic cancer and if the eating trends continued, this figure could rise by as much as a factor of four. Apart from this, many believe that there is a parasite residing inside the intestines of one in six men and one in ten women. A very common fact also states that there is more than two pounds of fecal matter stored in the colon out of the average four pounds that it stored and if the person does not take proper measures to have it cleaned, he could face many difficulties. Therefore, such a cleanse, it seems, is much more important than you first thought. Together with the fact that with this you can easily perform the process in the comfort and privacy of your home, it is highly beneficial.<bio>PART 2 - For part two of this article, head on to Homemade Colon Cleanse where you can also find shocking stories on the Colon Detoxification.</bio>

It is very common for the average adult to once in a while get constipated. While the sensible solution to the problem would be to increase the fiber intake and perhaps also drink some prune juice for a day or two to naturally get things moving inside your gastrointestinal tract, the temptation to instead reach for a commercially available over the counter laxative is too strong for many to resist. After all, the laxative promises a quick solution to the problem and many of these substances now advertise themselves as being gentle, natural and so close to nature that the body will not perceive the laxative as being an artificial substance.

In theory this is a great idea, but in practice this habit may actually backfire. The fact is that constipation is most commonly related to poor eating habits (namely a lack of natural fiber and an overage of processed foods). A quick laxative negates the necessity of changing your eating habits by simply circumventing the symptoms that indicate your body's need for healthier food choices. Sooner rather than later your digestive tract becomes to rely on the laxatives for help in voiding fecal matter.

Studies have found that laxatives are actually physically habit forming. It has been shown that the intestines are quick to rely on the outside help of the laxative for taking over their functioning, and before long constipation will become chronic. You will find that the use of the laxative has become a trap and you are requiring the assistance of this substance more frequently than you had originally anticipated. Of course, this kind of bodily change in function is not without far reaching consequences. In many ways other areas of the body will be affected by the changes and upset of your gastrointestinal tract.

For example, consider the fact that laxatives not only affect your hardened fecal matter, but also contribute to serious bouts with electrolyte imbalances which in turn may hint toward hydration problems in the body.

Possible long-term consequences from laxative use include:

Abdominal cramping Muscle spasms Irregular heartbeat associated with an insufficient amount of electrolytes Frequent years infections Pain during exercise and everyday activities Occasional feelings akin to those associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome Problems associated with the health of your colon.

Therefore it is wise to avoid the laxative trap altogether and instead try to rely on natural laxatives as often as possible. Warm baths, high fiber foods, prunes, and a change in eating habits that stresses natural choices in favor or high fat, high carbohydrate food choices should be chosen every time! Laxatives, no matter how tempting the quick fix idea may be should be avoided at all costs. Granted, you will find that for a couple of days you will be uncomfortable and perhaps even feel like giving in just once will not make a big difference. But if you remember that your intestines do not need many chances to change their behavior, you will know that even one time could be one time too many. <bio>Richard Smart writes for Natural Health Products, Inc and online natural health company which provides a very effective constipation and colon cleansing product. http://www.newcolonsweep.com </bio>

Trillions of microorganisms live on and inside us. Human beings, as well as animals, play host to many types and high number of microbes. Microbes live on our gastrointestinal tract. Microbes live on our skin, in our mouth, and all the way through our gastrointestinal tract. In fact, in reference to the human body, it has been estimated that there are more microbes associated with it than there are human cells in it. It has been estimated that more than 400 different species, or type of bacteria make their homes on humans. By providing large numbers of these friendly bacteria to the intestinal tract that may increase the population of these bacteria compared to other, less desirable, strains. These strains may then competitively inhabit the growth of undesirable strains by competing for space and nutrients, while also inhibiting the production of toxic substances produced by some desirable strains.

Many types of diarrhea illnesses, with many different causes disrupt intestinal function. Recently, a paper was published which reviewed nine studies on the effect of Lactobacillus therapy for diarrhea in children. This paper conclude that "Lactobacillus is safe and effective as a treatment for children with acute infectious diarrhea"

Can it replace antibiotics?

The purpose of antibiotics is to kill harmful bacteria. Unfortunately they often kill normal bacteria also. This can result in disruption of the bacteria flora, leading to the diarrhea and other intestinal disturbance. Replenishing the flora with normal bacteria during and after antibiotics therapy seems to minimize disruptive effects of antibiotics use. Studies have been recently reported suggesting a role of probiotics in decreasing symptoms in patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative coalitis, inflammatory bowel disease and pouchitis.

Probiotics helps prevent lactose intolerance.

Yogurt was found to aid digestion of lactose because the lactic acid bacteria used to make yogurt produce lactase and digest the lactose before it reaches the colon. In addition to yogurt starter bacteria, L acidophilus and Bifidobacterium have been shown by several studies to improve digestion of lactose.

It is unlikely that eating yogurt will significantly increase the number of beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract. The bacteria used to produced a fermented food like yogurt is not concentrated for the purpose of supplementing your body's probiotics level. Besides the lack of potency found in food producing bacteria, sugars and preservatives cause the bacteria to go through their life cycle before the food product even reaches your store. The strains used in natural probiotics are selected as being the most beneficial for supplementing the probiotics level in your body. These strains are not found in yogurt.

In general, everyone should supplements themselves with probiotics. Without taking probiotics supplements, most people will not have enough beneficial bacteria in their systems to deal with many digestive tract related upset. However, there are some common conditions associated with a lack of beneficial bacteria. If you have poor skin, diarrhea or constipation, slow peristalsis (how long it takes your food to be digested and eliminated), flatulence or bowel wind, bad breath, bad body odour, lactose intolerance, or a low resistance to infections on a regular basis, your body be telling that you need more beneficial bacteria. The best way is to supply your body with natural probiotics supplements.<bio>Bardnurz Sham, Write an article to educate people so that they can improve their life by eat well and have a wonderful life.
Being a chronic gastrointestinal disorder, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is closely connected with the food we eat, and the way we eat it. This is why diet plays a very important role in alleviating or aggravating IBS. For the gut to properly function in digesting and moving waste material, a diet, modified according to the needs of the sufferer must be followed. Several food categories and methods of eating are more beneficial and are included in any recommended diet for irritable bowel syndrome sufferers.

Although symptoms are generally similar for most irritable bowel syndrome sufferers, there is no general pattern to be strictly followed in creating the optimum diet to relieve symptoms. Each diet is individualized, according the predominant symptoms they are suffering from, any specific allergies or intolerance they may have, their lifestyle as well as the patient's personal preferences.

A dietary regime will usually begin with a general diet that has been shown to relieve symptoms in the majority of people, but changes may be made throughout the course of treatment, to adjust to the symptoms presented, as well as individual preferences.

Continue reading to discover what foods in an IBS diet can help relieve symptoms, and sign up for our free newsletter.

There are proven effects that some foods have on the gastrointestinal tract, which is why the content of the diet, as well as the manner of eating must be carefully observed to attain results. Generally, foods that make symptoms worse, by increasing abdominal pain and worsening bowel habits, are processed products, gas-forming fruits and vegetables, alcohol, lactose and caffeine. Also those foods high in fat and insoluble fiber are usually excluded initially from the diet.

The different categories of food can be detrimental to the passage of waste material in the intestinal tract and the colon. Adverse effects can cause pain in the area, as pressure of the contractions excites the nerve endings and also cause the swelling of the colon or abdominal distension, due to air accumulation.

These restricted foods are those that have been categorized as being gastrointestinal stimulants or irritants, which hamper the gastrocolic reflex. When there is a dysfunction of the gastrocolic reflex, digestion, absorption and evacuation can be difficult.

Soluble fiber can greatly aid in bowel movement, by relieving and relaxing the muscles in the intestines responsible for moving digested particles. In the case of irritable bowel syndrome, there is either hypercontractility (excessive contracting), which hastens the movement of the bowel, or hypocontractility (not enough contracting), which delays the movement of the bowel. The former can cause diarrhea, while the latter can cause constipation. It is not uncommon for both conditions to occur alternately in irritable bowel syndrome.

Soluble fiber can significantly help ease the contractions, which can reduce pain and discomfort in the area and stop both diarrhea and constipation episodes.

Choosing the right diet for irritable bowel syndrome relief is important. The identification of trigger foods and the introduction of foods that help ease symptoms, while restricting those that cause the symptoms to worsen is a slow but essential part of overcoming IBS. <bio>Sign up for Susan Reynolds' free IBS newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about diet for irritable bowel syndrome at http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/?source=is </bio>

I would recommend you to find a company which provides free of cost legal consultation. Almost every good company has a website. It is a good idea to go through the website. You should try to know about the work experience of the company which is providing legal support. You should go through the old cases which were handled by the lawyers of the company.

Mesothelioma is one of the worst forms of cancer. The main cause of mesothelioma is chronic inhalation of asbestos particles. The asbestos particles can be very harmful for human body. They can harm the lungs as well as other organs of the body. These particles specifically attack mesothelium. It is a special covering of the organs which allow them to move smoothly. The cancer developed in the mesothelium is not limited to one part of body but can also become malignant. The people who are diagnosed with mesothelioma do not live for a long time.

It is very important to diagnose the disease in a timely manner. You should have enough information about the signs and symptoms of the disease. The common symptoms of the asbestos cancer are dyspnoea, chest pain, weakness, and weight loss. If any of the above symptoms appear in your loved one then it is a good idea to visit a physician or an oncologist.

The three main organs or systems which are attacked by asbestos particles are lungs, gastrointestinal tract and heart. The most common form of this cancer is pleural form. If the cancer cells invade the gastrointestinal tract then it is known as peritoneal form. The third and the rarest type of mesothelioma is pericardial form.

You should spend some time in finding more information on this topic. You should have enough information about every sphere of the legal process. It is a good idea to find informative websites or blogs which are devoted to this type of cancer.
UTI or urinary tract infection is very common both in humans and in dogs. The symptoms of this disease in your pets are very much the same as it is in you. More often than not, this disease is caused by bacteria such as the E. coli. If left untreated, UTI may develop into a disease of the kidney that could otherwise cause death to your pet.

To treat UTI, dogs are usually given antibiotics. But sometimes, the high dosage of antibiotics can produce some side effects on your pets that are equally harmful. To rid yourself of thinking about these side effects and to keep your pet from suffering from it, you can try giving natural herbal medicines to your dog for urinary tract infections.

Garlic can be given to dogs suffering from urinary tract infection. Just sprinkle garlic bits in your dog's meal so that your pet can ingest them. Garlic proves to be very effective in removing infections inside the body. This spice can also be added generously on your pet's food if you feed home cooked meals for your dog. Aside from garlic, Echinacea is also an effective herbal remedy for dogs with urinary tract infection. The effects of this herb are very much the same with that of garlic.

Rosehip is another herb that can help a lot. It contains irons, which is needed by dogs with UTI. Rosehip also has high levels of Vitamin C, which could alleviate your dog's condition. Uva Ursi and alfalfa can also be given alternately. These herbs are known to reduce the acidity in the dog's urine and treat the irritations present in the mucosal lining of the dog's stomach in the process.

Yarrow and buchu are two herbs that can cure urinary tract infections in dogs. Yarrow can increase the vitality of dogs, while serving as a tonic for their nervous system and the blood. Buchu, on the other hand, can cleanse the blood of your dog, ridding it of impurities that can form into bladder stones. Buchu is in fact, the best natural remedy for UTI in dogs.

These herbal remedies for urinary tract infections are the best complement of the antibiotics given by the veterinarian to speed up the dog's healing process. However, you should inform the vet with your decision to give natural remedies to your pets before actually administering them. Some chemical antibiotics may cause unexpected reactions with the natural elements of these herbs. Aside from the vet, herbalists may also give sound advises when it comes to these matters.

More than herbs, your dog need to maintain a healthy diet to keep the urinary tract infection from recurring. Treating your dog from UTI is just the first step. You should make sure that you give your dog the diet that it needs on its recovery stage and several years thereafter. Urinary tract infections in dogs can strike again if you're not particular about your dog's diet. If you dog had suffered from UTI, a total lifestyle change is necessary.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome with constipation is a treatable medical condition. It is characterized by recurring abdominal pain and discomfort, and bloating along with constipation.

IBS with constipation is common to a number of people. Getting accurate information on what causes IBS with constipation may help in improving the condition. It is also recommended to seek medical assistance from doctors who specialize in this type of disorder.

It is not really clear why some people develop IBS with constipation while others do not. IBS with constipation can be caused by a sensitive, slow working gastro-intestinal tract, which causes abdominal pain, bloating and constipation. This was thought to be due to the way the gastrointestinal tract reacts to the changes in serotonin. Serotonin is a natural occurring chemical in the body that plays an important role in making the gastrointestinal tract function normally.

IBS with constipation may also be affected by diet and disease. Most constipation cases are due to insufficient fiber as well as inadequate fluids in the diet. Fibers are important since they help to soften stools, and water or fluids help to flush stools through the body.

Diet is partially to be blamed for the occurrence of constipation especially for people over 65 years old. Constipation occurring in people in this age range is due to medications, poor diet, and lack of water intake, as well as poor muscle tone.

Teenagers or younger people are also at risk of IBS with constipation; in fact, a great number of young people are suffering from irregular bowel movement. They also experience bloating and abdominal pains. Another factor that contributes to IBS constipation is traveling since most people who are traveling tend to suppress the urge to go to the bathroom. There are also some cases where some people just can't have a bowel movement in bathrooms that are not familiar to them.

There is still no specific cure for IBS with constipation however there are proper treatments for the symptoms that goes with it. Bowel habits may also be stabilized to diminish abdominal cramping as well as lessen the pain associated with bowel movements.

For symptoms that are transient and only happen occasionally, no special treatment may be needed. However, for those who have persistent and chronic symptoms special treatment may be needed. There is no specific therapy that can resolve all symptoms in patients. However, some treatments may prove to be effective in treating symptoms of IBS with constipation.

The first treatment calls for lifestyle changes. This means recognizing and dealing better with stress. Take some time to relax, sleep, and exercise. The diet for IBS entails for eating smaller amounts of food more frequently. This may help in alleviating symptoms of IBS. Eating foods that are low in fat and high in carbohydrates is also beneficial to keeping a healthy intestine.

Fiber in diet is also excellent in controlling IBS with constipation. The dietary fibers are known to add bulk to the stool creating stools that are much larger and much softer making bowel movements easier and less painful.

Medications are applied for patients that have severe and recurrent symptoms of IBS with constipation. Nevertheless, medications like treatments need to be customized to suit various needs of the patient since different patients tend to respond differently with various medications.

Psychotherapy is also applied to some IBS cases since stress sometimes affects bowel movement. Psychotherapy can provide assistance in coping with chronic illness and uncovering emotional triggers that may be present.

If you suspect you are suffering with IBS, you should first consult your primary care physician before taking other steps. <bio>Susan Reynolds. Although the exact cause of IBS is unknown, several factors seem to influence the development of the conditions. But can Candida Albicans cause IBS?

Candida albicans is a yeast or fungus that normally is present inside the human body. It can generally co-exist with no health risks, and in fact it has a part to play in a healthy functioning digestive system =96 It is only when there is overgrowth that problems occur. Candida Albicans is generally kept in check by the natural flora of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, and the body's immune system, and the numbers are kept at an acceptable level.

Candida albicans is helpful in a number of processes that occur in the body and has relative functions in immune responses.

However, just like any other microorganism, overgrowth of Candida albicans can be detrimental. The flora that manages its number may experience certain changes that allow excess fungal growth, which will allow it to increase in number and proliferate in the intestinal tract and colon. It is believed that this action can then cause the symptoms of IBS.

The proliferation of yeast infection and bacteria in the digestive system can result in an increase in toxins being released leading to abdominal cramping, pain and episodes of diarrhea. It also can cause skin rashes and allergies, which is not good news for irritable bowel syndrome patients who already have hypersensitive intestines. Hypermotility can result and aggravate the symptoms of abdominal distension, diarrhea and flatulence.

The true mechanism of how the toxins from Candida albicans cause IBS is not fully understood, and indeed there are many in the medical profession that do not believe the theory that a candida infection could trigger IBS. However, there are many personal stories of those that adopt an anti candida diet finding their IBS symptoms alleviated.

Candida overgrowth can be slowed and even reversed by consuming the right diet, which restricts the intake of sugars, processed foods, foods that have been fermented or contain fungus or mould, and those made with cows milk. There are many similarities to the anti-candida diet and a diet that is helpful for someone with IBS, so they can be combined.

Continue reading to discover natural methods to relieve IBS symptoms and sign up for our free newsletter.

There are also other approaches that can be taken to improve the immune response and help suppress candida including bolstering the levels of friendly bacteria in the gut by taking probiotic supplements or foods, eating foods that have natural anti-fungal properties like garlic and taking herbs that have been shown to help improve the gut flora.

So, if the medical community where asked can candida albicans cause IBS, they would probably consider it unlikely. However, they seem to be missing the evidence that is presented by people who have adopted a program to eliminate candida and seen improvements in their IBS symptoms. <bio>Sign up for Susan Reynolds' free IBS newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about candida albicans cause ibs at http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/?source=is </bio>
