There are no specific high blood pressure symptoms, and if you have high blood pressure, you cannot tell by the way you feel. If you experience severe high blood pressure then you may end up being hospitalized. A lot of people suffer from high blood pressure and it is indeed a matter of concern. High blood pressure symptoms may lead to some serious health hazards like heart or kidney disorders.

Suffering from cardiovascular diseases like angina, heart attack, kidney damage, eye problems, gangrene may be high blood pressure symptoms. The cardiovascular high blood pressure symptoms are related to other high blood pressure symptoms irrespective of the fact you smoke or not, or if you have diabetes or even high cholesterol.

Some lifestyle factors can add to high blood pressure symptoms but it might be the case, that in spite of the same lifestyle some people experience high blood pressure symptoms and some do not.

Hypertension or high blood pressure symptoms can run in the family. However, that does not mean you cannot notice high blood pressure symptoms if any one does not have high blood pressure in your family. If you are overweight, if you consume a lot of alcohol, if you eat a lot of salt, or if you are under a lot of stress it is likely that you could develop high blood pressure symptoms.

Many people with hypertension don't have any specific high blood pressure symptoms. You may not know you have high blood pressure. Some of the usual high blood pressure symptoms are headaches, neck aches, black out, fits, blurred vision etc. If you have such symptoms, you must regularly check your blood pressure, lead a healthy lifestyle, you should try losing weight if you are overweight, take proper and regular medicines, visit or consult your healthcare provider at regular intervals, keep a healthy diet, exercise daily, and quit smoking.

You may also have to get a number of tests done if your high blood pressure symptoms have an impact over your body. These tests might include: examination of your urine, a blood test, checking the condition of your kidneys, a chest X-ray, identifying any enlargement of the heart muscle, and an ECG. These are a few check ups that you might have to undergo if you suffer from hypertension.

If you suspect you are suffering with high blood pressure you should consult your primary care physician immediately. <bio>Paul Johnson.
A considerable part of the world's population is overweight which brings weight loss on the agenda of virtually every other person on the planet. Cutting down on calorie intake, increasing physical activity are a few conventional ways of shedding extra weight. These techniques work, but take they take their own time and you are most likely to get a little impatient in this case.

Every one want results-- quick, effective and visible. Liposuction is the answer. Also called 'lipoplasty' and 'suction lipectomy', the method basically involves a cosmetic surgery for the removal of fat from many different parts of the body which may include thighs, abdomen, buttocks or arms. The fat-removal is usually performed by a respiorator and cannula.

Liposuction however is not exactly an alternative method for weight loss. It is actually a surgical method for body contouring, wherein the how much fat is removed varies depending upon the doctor, the patient and the method used. It is not that you can get as much fat removed as you want. There are a number of factors that restrict the amount of fat that can be removed safely in a single session. It is a decision that the surgeaon and the patient make. Excessive fat removal can produce what look like dents in the skin.

Therefore, if you have heard or read of someone having got 25 kgs of fat removed in a session, it is exaggeration. The kind of body contouring that liposuction makes possible can make one appear to have lost weight far greater than the amount of fat actually removed. Liposuction may be performed with general or local anesthesia. The technique is safe so long as only optimum amount of fat tissues are removed, a safe anaesthsia is chosen and carefully admnintered and the overall health of the patient is sound.

Liposuction is quite a modern body contouring technique and is attributed to the French surgeon, Charles Dujarier. However, way back in 1926 gangrene developed in a French model's leg after Dr Dujarier had perfomred liposuction on her. This casued the contouring to be discontinued for decades after that. Liposuction came back in its modern outlook aftre the 1982-presentation by Dr Yves-Gerard Illouz.

Through the 1980s it is experimented with mixed results. Then, in the late 1990s, ultrasound stepped in to facilitate fat removal through ultrasonic energy. Now, after three decades of medical experimentation and improvement, fat cells can be removed with little blood loss and with largely reduced risk. However, there are still a few questions asked about the safety and practicability of this method, but by and large, medical preatitioners have accepted liposuction as an option. <bio>To get more information on herbal weight loss, weight loss tips and weight loss surgery visit http://www.thelosspill.com/ </bio>

Cellulitis is an infection that is caused by bacteria. When it affects your face it is called facial cellulitis. This infection can affect both children and adults. Cellulitis is caused by three types of bacteria, namely, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and Haemophilus influenzae.

A person with facial cellulitis experiences swelling, redness and pain in the skin on his or her face. Apart from the skin being infected, the person also has swelling and pain in the tongue. The other symptoms include fever, irritability, body aches and decreased appetite. Once you notice these symptoms it is mandatory that you go to the doctor to get the symptoms diagnosed. This is because this infection can present considerable risk factors to the person. Once diagnosed appropriate treatment can be provided to the person and the infection can be quelled.

There are a number of ways which the doctors employ to diagnose cellulitis. One simple way is to touch the affected are. It will be tender and warm. When this is combined with the redness that the doctor can see, he can include cellulitis in the possible infections list. To confirm this, he check if the person has any open wounds or cuts which may have facilitated the entry of the bacteria into the blood stream of the person and thus causing the infection. Even if the doctor does find an open wound or cut, he cannot be conclusive about the infection. The sure-shot way of confirming cellulitis is to conduct a blood test. If bacteria are present in the blood, the doctor can confirm Cellulitis.

Once the infection has been diagnosed as it posed considerable threats to your body. Facial cellulitis can infect your brain which results in meningitis. There are some other rare conditions that can develop when you have cellulitis. These are thrombophlebitis and Gangrene which are rare and you do not have to be too concerned about it. But you have to realise that, if you do not get cellulitis treated quickly then you are at the risk of developing the above mentioned conditions too. If you have diabetes, then your immune system is not in very good shape. In this situation if you are infected with cellulitis, this will balloon to other potentially complicated problems that can put you in a great deal of difficulty.

There are various treatments available for getting rid of cellulitis. This is a recurring infection and hence the foremost form of treatment should be preventive in nature. You should be generally hygienic and should avoid contact with food that is spoilt. If you have diabetes, you should take extra care of not cutting yourself and thus exposing and open wound or cut through with bacteria can enter. You should regularly clean the affect area if you have already contracted the infection and take the prescribed medicine regularly. As the infection is caused by bacteria, the best form of medicine is antibiotics. You can take antibiotics orally or intravenously. If you have an open wound or cut and are susceptible to bacterial infection, it is a good idea to take antibiotics to prevent the infection.<bio>Visit our website if you are interested in more articles about laser hair removal treatment, acne, skin care, laser acne treatment and more.</bio>

Green tea consists of high nutritional and medicinal values. Many research studies has resulted that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels as well as improving the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol and also decreased the growth of cancer levels.

Green tea consists of most powerful antioxidants and green tea is also not fermented. Green tea enhances the body's antioxidant enzymes including glutathione that is very helpful in treating arthritis. Green tea can reduce inflammation and cartilage breakdown which will be done only with the help of Glutathione. By taking green tea regularly can protect against many diseases that are caused by free radical damage and also to diabetes.

Green tea also has a significant effect to diabetes as they can low blood pressure and sugar level in body. Green tea are ease to find and inexpensive way to preventing us from diabetes. Green tea has assist to break down of blood glucose. Research suggested that green tea may in fact help to prevent the development of diabetes while also helping to regulate blood sugar levels in those who already have diabetes. Diabetics do not produce insulin which breaks down glucose in the blood, but the use of green tea may help in regulating these blood sugar levels and so be beneficial for diabetics.

Insulin, close relate to diabetes, is made in response to the level of glucose or sugar in the bloodstream. Insulin serves two purposes: it lowers blood sugar levels and increases the availability of sugar for normal cell functioning. Either the pancreas secretes little or no insulin in response to the rise in blood sugar after a meal or the pancreas secretes a normal amount of insulin but the cells do not respond to the hormone. In either case, the result is that blood sugar levels remain high; sugar spills into the urine, and many complications, such as diabetes, can develop in the body from the abnormal blood sugar levels.

Long-term damage can be severe, including such devastating effects as gangrene (especially the feet), ulcers, kidney failure, blindness and diabetes. Diabetes is also a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke because it makes the blood vessels less elastic and more likely to become clogged with plaque.

One study found that feeding green tea to rats reduced both blood glucose and insulin levels, and those catechins were very effective starches and sucrose blockers in the digestive tracts of rats.

Similar results were observed in humans. When 300 mg (about 3 cups) of green tea were given to subjects ten minutes before taking in 50 grams of starches, their glucose and insulin levels did not rise nearly as much as was expected. Besides, because of green tea's starch-blocking effect, it may also help get rid of excess fat, the villain that can cause diabetes or make it much worse.

Green tea is possibly the closest one can get to a miracle drink with its health benefits for a large range of variety diseases as well as for diabetes. Try some green tae for your health.<bio>Health Care</bio>

When you're in cold weather, there are some real health dangers you need to be concerned about. That's why outerwear protection is so critical to job safety. Even if you don't feel cold, your body may be suffering in ways you don't realize until it's too late. The health risks associated with the severe cold should never be taken lightly because they can have life-altering and life-threatening complications. For these reasons, you should consider investing in hats or hoods from Carhartt outerwear to protect some of the most vulnerable parts of your body.

Hats, Hoods, and Hypothermia

Hypothermia is a serious condition that occurs when our bodies are no longer able to properly stay warm. To keep our organs and other parts functioning properly, we need to keep our core temperature at a certain temperature but when that temperature falls too low our bodies begin literally to turn off. As a result, we can go into a death-like state.

Even in the coldest temperatures, our bodies work hard to make sure any heat that is lost is replaced quickly so our core temperature doesn't drop dangerously low. Unfortunately, if the heat is being lost too quickly that can't happen and that's why it is important to wear Carhartt outerwear.

Carhartt Outerwear Can Make the Difference

And that's the reason why Carhartt outerwear hats and hoods are so important. Research on warm-blooded animals, including humans, has found that up to 80% of our body heat can escape from our heads for two reasons. One the skin on our heads is so much thinner that the heat has less difficulty escaping and two because heat rises to the highest point possible. In humans, that point is our head. By wearing hats and hoods like those from Carhartt outerwear you can keep in that heat and reduce your risk of hypothermia.

The Risk of Frostbite

Another big risk you'll be facing by working outdoors in the coldest temperatures is frostbite. Basically, this condition occurs when parts of your body become so cold the blood flow to them is slowed. Without that blood flow, the body part literally begins to die even though it is still attached to the body. Because frostbite isn't always painful, the condition can quickly worsen and go unnoticed. If gangrene sets in, the only option is usually amputation.

The role of Carhartt Outerwear in Stopping Frostbite

Two of the most likely targets of frostbite, besides your hands, are your ears and your face because they have the least blood circulation and because they are often the most exposes parts of your body.

When you wear hats or hoods, such as those available through Carhartt outerwear, you're going to be protecting these parts of your body. Your ears, for example, can be completely protected by a warm thermal or flannel lining that will keep out the cold. Some of the hats available even come with face masks attached to offer full protection to that vulnerable part of your body as well.<bio>WorkWear1.com offers a great selection of Carhartt Clothing in addition to a wide variety of Carhartt Outerwear and many other Carhartt Clothing items.</bio>

Surgery is the most common medical practice around today that employs investigative work and treatment in one. Surgery is used to remove tumors, bone fragments, investigate a health issue after x-rays have been taken or even to repair broken bones or torn ligaments in the elbow, knee, or ankle. Surgeries are also used to save a trauma victim's life, repair a torn off finger or toe or even ear (see Mike Tyson). An elective surgery is done to repair a non-life-threatening problem. Emergency surgery is just that; to repair an organ or body part or save one's life in an emergency situation. An amputation is when a leg or arm needs to be removed from the body due to an infection that has spread or a wound that cannot be healed by any other means.

Surgery has adapted immensely over the past 200 years. During the United States Civil War, soldiers were operated on in large rooms with hundreds of other soldiers lying right besides them. Obviously, not the most clean or sanitized situation. Surgeons would remove legs and arms and then patch up the patient. Most surgery patients, if they didn't die on the table, wouldn't last much more than a year or two, if that long, after surgery was performed. They would contract gangrene or other infections.

The oldest known methods of surgery date back to the ancient Egyptians about 3,500 years ago. There are texts from this period documenting surgeries performed by priests who were 'specialized' in medical treatments. All of these procedures were documented on papyrus, known as the first patient medical records.

Surgical patients are, for the most part, sedated with anesthesia so they do not feel the pain of the surgery while it is taking place. The anesthesia 'knocks out' the patient to the point of a nap. After surgery the patient must spend a required amount of time in the hospital's recovery ward for the wound or area to heal properly and if there are any complications the doctors and nurses are only a room away. Following surgery, most patients are placed on painkillers if the surgery requires them. Some types are Percocet, Motrin or even Oxycontin.

There are all types of surgeries that are life saving and elective. They are plastic surgery to repair a broken nose or to 'improve' upon one's body, colorectal surgery, oral surgery, podiatric surgery, ophthalmology and cardiothoracic surgery to name a few.

Surgical procedures can be the most expensive medical procedures available today. There are so many doctors, nurses and equipment involved that some procedures can cost anywhere from $10,000-$15,000 apiece. The most popular form of elective surgery in the United States today is plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is used to increase or reduce breast size, reconstruct a face either by choice or after a horrific accident, repair a torn off ear from an accident, reshape the lips or adjust the eyelids. All of these surgeries are performed by licensed surgeons across the country and cost a hefty penny.<bio>Substance Abuse Mental Health Services</bio>

What is it?

The development of deep connective tissue massage therapy is credited to the German, Elizabeth Dicke. She had a medical condition in her legs that caused them to stay cold and discolored, and develop gangrene. One day while doing stretches in her lower back, she noticed warmth and a tingling sensation in her legs. When she continued the stretches, her legs gradually improved over time. She began to develop a massage technique based on her observations with two medical doctors, Kohlrausch and Teirich-Leube. This technique eventually came to be called deep connective tissue massage.

Deep connective tissue massage treats the body as a whole instead of just focusing on individual areas at a time. In this manner, it can treat the problem areas in the body by massaging connective tissues. Connective tissues fill the spaces in the body between muscles and fibers, and form a layer around blood vessels to protect them. They are very delicate and do not take stress well, therefore they can become injured and painful quite easily. Deep connective tissue massage aims to release myofascial restrictions in the body by healing injured connective tissues and breaking up any restrictive scar tissue.

How does it work?

During a typical therapy session, the massage therapist will focus on releasing tension from the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia with deep, intense strokes. Oil or lotion is not usually used in this form of massage therapy. Deep connective tissue massage therapy works by physically breaking down adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments. These adhesions occur due to chronic muscle tension or injury and can result in blocked circulation, pain, limited mobility and inflammation. Deep connective tissue massage therapy also restores the length and flexibility of connective tissue by normalizing it and by improving the strength and overall health of the entire connective tissue system.

What are its benefits?

Deep connective tissue massage helps in relieving chronic tension, increasing the body's range of motion, improves posture and enhances the natural harmony of the entire body and mind. It is a very powerful remedial tool for recovery from sports-related injuries, repetitive strain injury, osteoarthritis pain, fibromyalgia and muscle spasms.

Precautions

Because deep connective tissue massage is a very intense form of massage therapy, do consult a medical practitioner before signing up for a therapy session. It is not recommended for people with infectious skin diseases, rashes or open wounds, people who are prone to blood clots, people who have just had surgery and pregnant women. <bio>Sharon Hopkins authors web content for http://www.massagehealththerapy.com Massage Therapy, which provides a relaxing experience by artistic hand strokes on the body to rejuvenate and revitalize you.
If you are planning an outdoor vacation and hiking is on your list of activities, it may be a good idea to refresh yourself on some basic first-aid. Three of the most valuable first-aid skills hikers can learn are CPR, the Heimlich maneuver and caring for fractures.

Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is used to return someone to normal breathing. Formal CPR training is much better, but here are some tips in the meantime that may help if an emergency occurs while hiking.

First, immediately call 911 or the local emergency rescue team if you can. Yell out loudly for a trained medical specialist or physician who may be on a nearby trail or lodging. If it is necessary, especially if the person is turning a bluish color, there are several things to consider and check.

Consider how the problem happened. If they were swimming in cold water, they may simply need warmed up. A sunny climate will not suffice in those situations. Now, if they went under the water and were pulled out, try putting them on the stomach and remove the water by short, modest compressions on the diaphragm located below the chest just above the stomach.

Place them on their back, hold their nose and breathe into their mouth while watching for any chest expansion. Then, stop and tilt the body allowing the water to exit the body. Repeat this, giving two breaths of two seconds in length. If this does not work, try chest compressions by pushing down firmly right above the diaphragm along the sternum.

Secondly, the Heimlich maneuver is used to remove foreign objects such as food from air passages interfering with breathing. Do not slap the person on the chest as this will cause the object to lodge even deeper in the throat.

Rather, stand them up, move behind them and grasp your wrist with your opposite hand so that the bone at the base of your thumb is against their body. Make a short, firm jerk inward against their diaphragm watching for the object to dislodge. You may have to repeat this several times, but be sure to press against the diaphragm only and not the rib cage.

Finally, fractures can range from a simple toe break to a painful, compound fracture. The most serious fracture is a compound fracture when the bone is protruding from the skin leaving the additional threat of infection. Apply sterile gauze to cover the wound. A splint should be used to keep the limb straight and immobilized, whether it is a straight stick or walking pole. Secure the limb with medical tape or a thin vine if none is available.

Do not try to straighten the fracture yourself, and be careful not to completely shut off the blood flow to the leg to avoid gangrene.

If goes without saying that in all of these situations you want to get professional help as soon as possible. Nearby lodging is a good place to start, if available. But, never continue to hike! <bio>Vince Paxton continually makes detailed papers on subjects dealing with La Manga and Costa Blanca. Recording his experience in detailed writings such as http://www.alicante-spain.com/lamanga_golf.html ,he showed his expertise on news about golf in la manga spain. </bio>

You may already know all too well the dangers of working in the severe cold. While it might be nice if you could stay indoors to do your job on those particularly frigid days, that's just not in the cards for many occupations. The good news is you can take precautions to protect yourself from these dangers and Carhartt Clothing can help you make that happen.

The Risks of Cold Weather

Before we get into how Carhartt Clothing can protect you in frigid conditions, we first need to address the particular dangers you could be facing without the proper protection from the elements. Two of the worst problems are hypothermia and frostbite.

Even if you are active, you can still suffer from hypothermia when your core temperature drops thanks to exposure to a combination of low temperatures and a biting wind chill. In its final stages, hypothermia resembles death. The disorder can and is often fatal if quick actions are not taken. The second concern is frostbite. Frostbite reduces the blood circulation in the hands, feet, face, and ears and can even lead to gangrene in those parts. Even when frostbite is treated, severely affected body parts will always be more prone to frostbite in the future.

Protecting Yourself

Carhartt Clothing can play an important role in protecting yourself from these conditions. For example, you're going to want waterproof or water-repellant clothing when the temperatures are not just cold but also snowy or damp. Carhartt Clothing has two entire collections dedicated to these specific demands. The collections include tops, bottoms, jackets, and other attire that is going to protect you. Remember wet skin is more vulnerable to frostbite and can lower your core temperature faster.

Having good headwear is also important when you're working outdoors. A great deal of body heat can escape through the head but by wearing a hat you can hold more of it and prevent a drop in temperature. Carhart caps are a good idea but Carhartt Clothing also offer a line of hoods which can provide greater protection by keeping the ears warm and less vulnerable to frostbite.

Choosing Good Socks

Socks are an important part of staying warm in harsh environments. Carhartt Clothing offers a wide variety of socks that are going to be perfect for protecting not only these extremities but also for helping maintain your body temperature. Remember to avoid cotton socks which can hold in moisture and have the opposite effect on your body. Carhartt Clothing offer some cold weather socks made from blend of acrylic, nylon, wool, and spandex which makes them warm but also thin enough not to restrict blood flow and cause your body to cool down too fast.

Gloves

Of all the attire you need, one of the most important is going to be your gloves. These provide protection from the wind and cold for your fingers which are one of the most vulnerable to frostbite. Carhartt Clothing carries an entire line of work gloves that are ideal for working and staying warm.<bio>WorkWear1.com offers a great selection of Carhartt Clothing in addition to a wide variety of Carhartt Outerwear and many other Carhartt Clothing items.</bio>

Gout and diabetes have been together longer than peanut butter and jelly. These two sinister diseases have been wreaking havoc on the human population for many years, but why?

Before we discuss the connection between diabetes and gout, let's review exactly what diabetes is. Diabetes is a disease where sufferers inject insulin to treat high levels of sugar in the body. A diabetes sufferer doesn't make enough insulin by themselves so they need injections on a daily basis. Sometimes, patients need multiple injections per day to remain healthy.

While this may not sound like such a big deal, the major headache associated with diabetes come from the practically endless list of long-term problems that result from it.

The list of complications associated with diabetes reads like a laundry list of debilitating diseases: cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, severe eye damage, nerve damage, sexual dysfunction and possible gangrene, which can lead to amputation.

It's here that gout shows its ugly face. The connection between gout and diabetes is linked to poor blood circulation in the limbs. The chances of coming down with gout increase when poor circulation in the feet result in a build-up of uric acid in the joints. Poor circulation is a hallmark of diabetes, so the two illnesses are closely associated.

So, what can be done?

While there is no cure for diabetes, there are some treatments available to help increase blood flow to parts of the body.

One of the most basic treatment methods is the application of a warm, wet cloth or towel to the infected area. The heat and moisture can help dilate blood vessels in the foot, therefore increasing blood flow.

If this rudimentary treatment doesn't work, there are other options.

Exercise is a common way to help increase blood flow to the limbs. This may be difficult, however, for sufferers of gout, since standing or putting any pressure on a gout-ridden foot tends to be excruciating. So this works best as a preventative measure.

Drinking an extra glass or two of water per day has shown to help blood flow problems.

There are also many all-natural supplements that you can add to your diet to help put an end to gout outbreaks associated with diabetes.

Cayenne tincture has been a long-used cure all for anyone suffering from circulation problems. The herb has shown in studies to not only increase circulation, but also help in clearing the arteries and strengthening the muscles around the heart.

Ginkgo biloba is another herb that has many benefits for the body beyond simply improving circulation. While it does a fine job in that, ginkgo can also help improve memory, help with asthma symptoms and helps strengthen blood vessels.

If you're looking to improve your circulation, keep gout away and scare off vampires, than garlic is the herb for you. Not only will it help your blood move easier, it is an excellent blood cleanser and helps with high blood pressure.

In conclusion, diabetes and gout are inexorably linked. While you may not be able to fully avoid gout if you suffer from diabetes, there are ways to help lessen your chances of coming down with this painful joint condition. <bio>If you are looking for more http://cure-gout-now.com/blog/2006/11/30/gout-linked-to-diabetes/ symptoms please visit http://www.cure-gout-now.com/ and sign up for a free newsletter. </bio>

When you're young and healthy, you probably don't need a lot of vitamin supplements to ensure you get the complete nutrition required to keep your body healthy. But as you get older and your body changes, so will your needs. If you don't meet the required vitamin dose you need, your body will use up its store and you'll end up experiencing the symptoms of a vitamin deficiency.

Vitamin deficiency can cause a lot of trouble so why wait until it happens to you? They can range from mild to annoying and can easily turn serious if uncorrected in time. If you want to know what vitamin supplement is best for you, find out what deficiencies you want to avoid and which you want to correct.

What's your deficiency? If your body is not working as well as it did before, there's a big chance you have some form of vitamin deficiency. Here is a list of vitamins and the deficiencies they prevent or help correct:

Vitamin A Problems with the eyes and eyesight such as macular degeneration, dry and hard eyeballs, retinal detachment, conjunctivitis and color-blindness. Vitamin A is also good for treating acne, jaundice, skin infections like cold sores, impetigo and boils, warts, skin cancer and scleroderma.

Vitamin C Cataracts, dim vision, glaucoma and myopia. Vitamin C is also effective against acne, Addison's disease, stress, dry skin, bed sores, jaundice, gangrene, skin itching, prickly heat, rashes, hematoma, wrinkles and shingles.

Vitamin D Vitamin D is indicated for people who are at risk of bone diseases and degeneration such as osteoporosis. Vitamin D is usually found in sunlight and a deficiency may occur due to limited exposure. This vitamin is usually taken with Vitamin C for maximum absorption.

Vitamin E A very effective antioxidant like Vitamin A, Vitamin E is also used to treat and prevent blisters, bed sores, hot flushes, scar tissue, stretch marks, wrinkles and aging skin.

Vitamin B group This group of vitamins is sometimes referred to as Vitamin B-complex, composed of 8 B vitamins including B1, B2, B3 (niacin), B6, B12, biotin, folic acid and pantothenic acid. The vitamins in the B group, whether alone or in combination are effective against wounds, cataracts, glaucoma, retinitis, night blindness, photophobia, Addison's disease, skin ulcers, eczema, dermatitis, seborrhea, pale skin, rosacea, dandruff, graying hair and other problems with the skin and nails.

Certain vitamin groups, such as antioxidants like A, E, D and K, are important for preventing free radicals from affecting body cells. Antioxidants effectively maintain the health of cells to prevent damage.

These antioxidants are also fat-soluble vitamins. They are absorbed by the body along with fat sourced from other foods. The vitamin-rich fat is then broken down by the bile and used by the body. If you take too much, the excess vitamins are stored in your liver and kidneys.

Water-soluble vitamins like Vitamins C and B, on the other hand, are easily absorbed. If you take more than your body needs, these vitamins are simply excreted through urine.

The danger of too much of a good thing You don't have to worry about overdosing on water-soluble vitamins because your body knows how to take care of them. It is the fat-soluble type that you should be careful with. Vitamins A, E and D are toxic in high doses for long periods while too much Vitamin K can increase the risk of hemorrhage. If you must use a vitamin supplement, the best thing for you to do is to keep within the recommended daily allowance. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects.
Diabetes is an insidious disease which can often lie undetected for many years and can cause very serious complications. These include cataracts, blindness, nephropathy, and thrombosis. Many treatments can and should be given to help give any person who suffers from this condition the chance of a normal life.

Side effects of diabetes include nausea, tiredness, and palpitations. However, the most frequent side effects for the diabetic person are hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, serious conditions which can cause induce coma in the diabetic person. In the long term, more serious diabetes complications include blindness, infarction, limb amputation and renal diseases. However there are currently many available treatments that allow a diabetic to lead a healthy life. Diabetics should be encouraged to take advantage of these treatments and seek medical advice immediately upon suspecting that anything is wrong.

Until insulin was discovered, type 1 diabetes always proved fatal. Now with the discovery of insulin and other remedies people with type 1 diabetes can live a long and fruitful life. In western countries the main cause of blindness and renal disease is the result of incorrect diabetes care. Diabetics are also more sensitive than non-diabetics to specific oral and gynecological infections because the bacteria involved in these infections like sugar. A diabetics feet are particularly fragile and problem-prone. In diabetic people, wounds can lead to abscesses, even gangrene; this then results in amputation of the infected limbs.

Especially when the person's diabetic state is not well looked after, chronic hyperglycemia, over a period of time, gradually damages the small blood vessels in the kidneys and eyes, as well as the nerves. Over the years, this eventually leads to a failing of these specific organs. Certain blood vessels are prone to blockage in a diabetic. Therefore in a diabetis, certain parts of the body, such as the heart and lungs do not receive an adequate supply of blood. The person can die as a result of this. Also as previously-stated, permanent excess blood sugar leads to complications such as renal insufficiency, blindness and neuropathy of the legs.

Fainting or coma caused by hyperglycemia are usually acute complications of diabetes type 1. These situatations also occur in people suffering from hypoglycemia. Both conditions are due to insulin not injected or an insufficient dose being given, respectively. Sometimes it is difficult to determine whether a diabetic person is hyperglycemic or hypoglycemic. One excellent method to determine their proper state is to smell their breath. You will find sweet breath present in a person suffering from a hyperglycemic condition. This is the result of ketones in the body being burned for fuel. When the body can no longer use glucose as fuel, this condition is known as acidic ketosis. This occurs when sugar can not penetrate the cells because of the absence of insulin. The cells are then savaged, resulting in abnormally massive ketone degradation. Ketones are the human body's toxic waste. Untreated, it results in coma and eventually premature death. <bio>David Brown writes for several web sites, including http://bowem.com and http://sofod.com </bio>

A diabetic is required to be extremely vigilant about his feet. If the feet are neglected, gangrenous changes may develop, when there may not be any alternative other than the removal of the gangrenous part of the foot/limb. The following should be strictly followed:

(i) The feet should be properly cleansed with soap and water. These should be properly dried, especially in between the toes.

(ii) If the feet tend to sweat, apply any powder, especially in between the toes.

(iii) Injury to feet should be avoided. If injury occurs, it should be dressed using alcohol or mercurochrome. Do not bandage tightly and avoid adhesive tape. Local antiseptics which are likely to irritate/burn the skin should not be used. Oral antibiotics are required to combat infection..

(iv) Do not use hot water bottle or heating pads on the feet.

(v) Do not soak sore feet in hot water.

(vi) Avoid tight shoes. New shoes should be comfortable. They should be broad at the tip so as not to jam the toes.

(vii) Socks with a tight elastic band should not be used. In winter, warm stockings are preferred.

(viii) If your feet ache, remove shoes and sit with legs elevated to hip level. This should be done regularly.

(ix) Never walk barefooted.

(x) Nails should be cut straight across and filed carefully to avoid rough ends. They may be cut after a bath when soft. If they tend to crack, leave them for the doctor's care.

(xi) Corns should not be cut. Do not apply corn remover. The doctor should be consulted.

(xii) A careful examination of the feet is required by the physician. The feet should be regularly examined for any injury, loss of temperature; inter-toes area must be looked into lest a hidden area of gangrene is missed.

(xiii) Tingling sensation in the feet, numbness or coldness of feet, change of colour of skin, like deep-red, or purple in between toes, toe-nails, and pain, tenderness, sepsis of feet are some of the warning signals. The physician should be immediately consulted.

Other instructions for diabetics

(i) A diabetic should bathe regularly. Powder should be used frequently in areas of skin prone to excessive sweating.

(ii) Infection anywhere in the body should be promptly treated. Care must be taken to reduce the dose of antidiabetic drugs as the infection is controlled, otherwise hypoglycaemia may occur.
Cellulites- Overview

Cellulites is a bacterial infection of the skin. Cellulites generally affects only one limb, but it can also affect other parts of the body. The skin may become red, swell, warm and have other clinical features. Cellulites may create complications if left untreated. Therefore it is necessary, that we find out more about what is cellulitis.

Cellulites> Symptoms>

Some of the symptoms are as follows. Cellulites commonly affects one limb. The skin appears red with swelling and blisters may form. The affected limb becomes tender. There is a feeling of warmth on the affected site. Abscesses may also form on the affected site and the lymph glands may swell to drain the infection. Fever may also develop with cellulitis.

Cellulites> Causes>

A bacterial infection causes cellulitis. Streptococcus pyogenes causes most of the cellulitis. Staphylococcus aureus also causes many cases of cellulitis. These are bacteria that attack the skin and cause inflammation and swelling.

The bacteria normally cause more trouble to those, who are weak and vulnerable for various reasons. Diabetics have lesser immunity than others. Diabetics may form chronic ulcers of the feet and these ulcers are vulnerable to bacteria entry.

Some people may be on immune suppressant drugs for some diseases. Their immune system gets suppressed and bacteria can easily flourish if they find an entry in such people. Many diseases such as AIDS, etc. also suppress the immunity and make the person more vulnerable to bacterial attack. If you have a healthy immune system, your body can easily fight the bacterial infection. As your defense becomes weak, the bacteria find it easy to attack you. The same is true with aged people, because their blood circulation becomes poor and the body is unable to send the required number of white blood cells to all parts of the body.

If you have chronic problems such as athlete's feet, bacteria find it easy to enter the body via the cracked and peeling skin.

Cellulites> Complications>

The face and lower legs are common places affected by cellulitis, but note that any part of the body can get affected. Many complications may arise with cellulitis.

If the infection enters the deeper layers of the body issue, it can cause serious complications. Once the bacteria enter the deeper layers, it spreads rapidly in the body. By entering the blood stream and the lymph nodes, the bacteria causes big harm to the body. The major complications of unchecked cellulitis can be meningitis (if cellulitis is on the face), sepsis, gangrene, etc.

Cellulites> Treatment>

Topical and oral antibiotics are commonly used to treat the early cases of cellulites at home. If the infection is severe, hospitalization is recommended and intravenous antibiotics are administered. For further advice, consult your doctor.

Precautions:

If you are susceptible to frequent cellulites or are immune depressed, take care to prevent it. Treat fungal infections immediately. Protect yourself from the smallest skin injury by wearing protective clothing and shoes. Moisturize the skin regularly so that it does not crack. For further advice, consult your doctor. <bio>Social network users, go to http://www.wishafriend.com/ac/ for myspace comments and http://www.wishafriend.com/graphics/ for myspace graphics.
Long before orthodox medicine took center stage in the health care practices around the world people who were sick used to visit different kind of doctors. These doctors were not the steth-wielding, tech-savvy, white-coated medical geniuses of today. Mostly, they were bearded, wizened and gnarled humans looking less like physicians and more like witches or wizards. But they were revered, loved and even feared because of one particular skill they possessed -- the healing touch.

In the early days of civilization, a vast majority of people were cut off from 'formal' medical care. Competent physicians were a luxury, to be enjoyed only by the super-rich and royalty. For everyone else, there was the local witch-doctor who was respected for his or her in-depth knowledge of folk medicine. This was the man or woman who treated everything from boils to gangrene, from cesarean to malaria and even small pox.

What is astonishing is that many of these so-called 'doctors' effectively cured their patients. What is even more interesting is that these medicines have lost none of their charms with the passage of time and more and more of them are finding their rightful place in mainstream medicines.

Remember how your grandma used to give you wild cherry bark for cough, or boil the twigs and leaves of red cedar to cure your cold? Well, that's folk medicine! If you were to ask your grandma how she learnt those techniques, she'd draw a blank! These unofficial health-related practices were passed on informally by word of mouth and were developed through observation and experimentation.

Illnesses ranging from the common cold and sore throat to warts, cancer, malaria, impotence and arthritis are said to be treated through folk medicine.

Folk medicine largely depended on the use of natural materials such as herbs, plant roots, trees, barks, fruits, insects and food items. Therefore, these practitioners paid a lot of attention to botany.

But the advent of modern medicine saw a decline in folk medicine as these 'rustic' practices were put under the microscope, dissected and then discarded as worthless. One more reason contributed to the decline of folk medicine.

Folk medicine started its downward slide with the advent of magical healing powers. Seedy people on the lookout for a few fast bucks were successful in capitalizing on the trust and faith of large sections of the society. Once their ruse came to light, people began to lose faith in folk medicine. Soon folk medicine was relegated to a gray area between orthodox medicine and quackery.

However, as more and more people have started to realize, there is a wealth of knowledge in traditional folk medicine. As people have started adopting the holistic way of life, there is a struggle to re-invent the precious folk medicine of yore. In recent years, the folk medicine of indigenous people is becoming more popular.

Some examples of folk medicines that we use in our daily life are:

Garlic - to reduce blood cholesterol levels Chinese acupuncture - to treat blood clotting and migraine The juice of neem leaves - to treat malaria Poultice - to treat infected wounds

Turmeric - to treat bee or wasp stings

Today, amazingly more than two-thirds of the world's population rely on the healing powers of folk medicine at some point of their lives. For many nothing else is available or affordable. For some, nothing else is acceptable. And for a very few, nothing else works. <bio>http://www.methodsofhealing.com </bio>

Most women feel very sure-footed when walking along streets and into buildings, but those people that wear high-heeled shoes has had to train all senses to be aware of obstacles in their path. Most women that wear casual shoes regularly would never think about crossing over air conditioning grates that are built into the sidewalks and streets in large metropolitan areas. A city woman that is wearing heels would think twice about walking that route because they know the high heels could lead to painful injuries.

Spiked heels, in particular, have a tendency to lodge in cracks in sidewalks and severe ankle injuries are the result. Some shoe manufacturers have recalled shoes due to the number of injuries that clients experienced, and the company absorbed the cost of offering refunds to customers, but many tried to offer customers the option of trading the defective pairs for a shoe style that was stylish but safer. Many shoe styles that are equipped with high heels are safe but wearing the shoes safely will require a bit of experimentation and numerous hours of wear.

Shoes that fit closely on the foot are likely to cause some injuries during the first month of wear. Many shoe customers know that some shoe materials will require a breaking in period before they are comfortable and safe to wear. During the first weeks of wear, many customers will love the shoe styles and injuries will occur when shoe material rub against the skin and cause it to blister from the friction caused by contact with materials such as leather. Some customers fail to treat the blisters and end up with an infection that could cause gangrene if not treated by a doctor.

Other shoe styles cause injuries due to the angle at which the bottom of the foot rests in the shoe. Some people are unaccustomed to wearing shoes made of cork or hard leathers and will recognize the unsuitability of long-term wear after only a few hours. The most common complaints that people voice when wearing shoes styles made from these natural materials are a painful ache in the arch of the foot that never seems to go away. A warm soak of the feet might ease the ache, but many will prefer a vigorous foot rub from a family member.

Many shoe styles mimic the natural form of the foot. People wear these shoe styles and injuries rarely occur. Some brand-name shoe manufacturers have built an empire from the natural curvature of the foot and have styled shoes that are form fitting but also breathtakingly beautiful. These natural shoe styles are fashioned for wear at casual or dressy occasions and are extremely comfortable. Most of these natural shoe styles accommodate natural curves with thick rubber soles that help absorb shock to bone ligaments and joints as people walk in them.

Government research panels have eyed shoes styles and injuries and have had a great influence on regulations that govern shoes worn in certain environments. Construction workers wear boots that are reinforced in the toe region with a steel plate. Electrical workers wear boots that have rubber soles in place for insulation against shocks from systems that are worked on throughout the day. Other workers wear low-heeled shoe styles and injuries are reduced tremendously. Service personnel in restaurants wear shoe styles equipped with non-skid services due to the wet flooring found in most eating establishments.<bio>James Brown writes about ShoeMall web code, Payless Shoes web code and Shoes.com web code</bio>

Diabetes is a condition in which the concentration of glucose in the bloodstream is chronically higher than normal. Diabetics are two to four times more likely than non-diabetics to die from stroke or heart disease. Diabetes may also lead to blindness, kidney disease, nerve disease, amputation, and impotence. It is responsible for over 180,000 deaths each year.

Diabetes causes rampant damage to the arteries and veins due to an accumulation of glucose in the blood. This accumulation sets an enzyme called PKC into overdrive. In addition to giving signals to the genes and causing cells to grow and divide fast, PKC also starts a chain reaction that reduces the elasticity of the veins and arteries. The consequently hardened arteries are very prone to breaking. Blockage of these arteries results in reduced blood flow to vital organs which could lead to conditions such as gangrene and blindness. Blockage of larger arteries leads to heart disease and stroke.

The complications of diabetes from heart disease and stroke to diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and damage of the nerves, have all been linked in some way to the formation of free radicals. Studies show that omega three and omega six fatty acids neutralize free radicals, and provide the additional nutrition so desperately needed by diabetics. One way of obtaining these required nutrients is to harness the power of nature and nourish the body with medicinal plants.

The Purslane Herb

Purslane, or portulaca as it is also known, is an herbaceous garden weed with fleshy succulent leaves. Purslane is one of the richest sources of fatty acids known in nature. It is also full of nutrients that can help manage diabetes. The main components of Purslane are tocopherals which are known to be strong antioxidants. It also contains vitamins C, A and E and minerals such as phosphorus, zinc, calcium, magnesium, manganese, silicon and phosphorus. A regular intake of Purslane in the form of salads should be an integral part in the management of diabetes.

Purslane is also an anti-inflammatory, demulcent, antibiotic, and anti-parasitic. It is regularly used in cosmetology due to its soothing properties. This property of Purslane can also be utilized in the treatment of the skin conditions, such as boils and sores, associated with diabetes.

Purslane is also used internally to deal with the symptoms of toxic dysentery, boils, sores, vaginal discharges, and urinary tract infections.

Essential oils and diabetes

Although essential oils cannot claim to cure diabetes, they can be used to reduce the side effects of diabetes related ailments such as ulcers, loss of skin integrity, and skin infections. The use of essential oils can reduce inflammation, encourage cell regeneration, and eliminate infection.

Some of the common essential oils that may be used are Palma Rosa, Rosemary, Juniper, Lavender, Tea-tree, and Peppermint.

Essential oils can also alleviate the stress of coping with a chronic condition such as diabetes and ease the burden of living with such a debilitating disease. Aromatherapy is a known antidote for relieving stress. Some of the essential oils that can be used for reducing stress are lavender, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Lemon, Bergamot, Neroli and Germanium. <bio>Sharon Hopkins regularly features articles in http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com and http://www.aromatherapies.net.
Although flat feet affect a significant part of the population, so does diabetes. Like those with flat feet, people with diabetes can develop foot pain. However, the foot condition that affects diabetics is called diabetic distal symmetric sensory polyneuropathy, better known as diabetic neuropathy.

Diabetic neuropathy is a condition that results in the loss of sensation in the feet. Diabetic neuropathy often develops from poor blood circulation and nerve damage in the feet.

Poor blood circulation can occur in diabetics when the arteries harden from: smoking; high blood pressure; high fat levels in the blood; high blood sugar. When arteries harden, the feet receive poor blood flow which also slows down healing. Poor blood supply symptoms include:

- Cold feet - Leg pain during walking - Foot pain while sleeping

Nerve damage can be a hazardous condition. This is because it is through the nerves that the brain registers sensations. Someone with nerve damage may not realize that they have an injury such as a cut or blister. If not taken care of, these minor foot injuries can develop into ulcers, and if the ulcer isn't taken care of, gangrene can develop which can lead to amputation.

Nerve damage symptoms include:

- Pins and needles, pain, or shooting pain in the feet - Numbness in the feet - Burning sensation in the feet, especially on the soles

Preventing foot problems -- There are many things that can be done to prevent foot injury and alleviate discomfort. The following are some preventative tips --

Tip 1 --Monitor your blood sugar levels and carefully follow the diet provided by your health care provider. Controlling your blood sugar helps lower the risk of nerve damage.

Tip 2 -- Maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising regularly, lose weight, quit smoking, limit alcohol consumption, and reduce stress.

Tip 3 -- Wash your feet daily with tepid water and mild soap. Dry your feet thoroughly, particularly between the toes. Also, inspect your feet daily for blisters, cuts, color changes, or any other signs of injury.

Tip 4 -- Maintain short toenails by cutting the nails straight across. Be sure to file down any rough edges.

Tip 5 -- Wear shoes that are properly fitted to your foot and provide you with support. Your toes should be able to move freely, and you shouldn't have to "break in" the shoe. Avoid wearing heals or shoes with pointed toes or going barefoot (even in your home). Ask a podiatrist for recommendations.

Tip 5 --Have your doctor examine your feet on a regular basis (at least annually) to check for poor circulation or nerve damage.

Treating foot problems -- If you have developed an injury or condition, keep the following in mind:

Corns or calluses -- Never try to remove these on your own, or with over-the-counter treatments. The skin on your feet is very sensitive and you don't want to risk causing further injury. Have a podiatrist remove them.

Cuts or blisters -- Use a mild antiseptic to clean the injury such as liquid savlon. Cover the injury with fresh gauze and surgical tape -- not a band-aid.

Pain -- if you are experiencing pain in your feet, try taking general pain relief medication such as aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen. However, these pain relievers may not be enough, and you may require prescription meds from your doctor.

When to seek the assistance of your doctor -- Although it is not necessary for you to bring every cut or blister to your doctor or podiatrists attention, you should seek medical attention when: - An injury or cut becomes red or does not heal within 2 days. - You develop throbbing, swelling, heat, pain, or discoloration in your feet.

Remember, most diabetic foot pain issues can be prevented when you take care of yourself and your feet, and you respond quickly to problems. <bio>By Dave Wilson.
Eucalyptus is more than just that crafty stem of leaves used in wall decor and other home made crafts. Although these decorations add a fresh scent and attractive accent to your home, eucalyptus is also available as an essential oil that may benefit you in other ways. Eucalyptus oil has a clear, thin appearance that provides a fresh, cooling, and soothing application with a soft earthy aroma. Eucalyptus oil is most commonly used to treat skin irritations such as insect bites, blisters, irritations and other wounds. The use of Eucalyptus oil is also widely used to treat congestion and respiratory distress as well as other medical disorders. Sinus pressure can be relived naturally by simply massaging a small drop of Eucalyptus oil onto your temples and on your 'third eye' or where your nose meets your forehead, being careful to avoid contact with the eyes. Eucalyptus oil will also provide relief to sore muscles when added to massage oil. Isn't it amazing what one little plant can do?

Essential oils are very complex and are often referred to as the "Life Force" of the plants from which they are derived. These essential oils are stored in the plants cells, ducts and glandular hairs that extend along the flowers, through the leaves, stems, bark and down into the roots. These plants are often considered a gift from Mother Nature to provide us with a unique medicinal healing, along with a protective, regenerating and intoxicating essential oil that is exceedingly beneficial to all human kind. A single essential oil is so highly concentrated and very powerful.
What is an ingrown toenail?

An ingrown toenail is simply a curving of the nail border into the flesh of the toe. When the pressure from the curved or deformed nail becomes excessive, the underlying skin or tissue is pierced or opened and this provides entry for harmful bacteria. It is common for bacteria to be around the nail without an infection. However, when the skin breaks and these bacteria enter the area, a bacterial infection begins. Ingrown nails can also result from the development of fungus in the nails which cause deformity and secondary bacterial infection. Some people will not get an infection initially but will just have pain and redness.

Signs of an infection include pain, redness, swelling, foul odor and yellow drainage. Many people develop ingrown toenail infections on a regular basis. These are often treated with soaking and antibiotic pills. Typically, these treatments only provide short term relief.

If the infection has been present for a long period, x-rays may be taken to make sure there is no bone infection. Bone infection is a serious problem and must be treated in other ways. Also, those with poor circulation can develop gangrene from an infection. It is highly recommended that the patient with these conditions seek early treatment to avoid more serious conditions.

Generally, ingrown nails present problems multiple times over a period of months or years. Initially, there is pain and redness which then results in infection.

Why some treatments provide only temporary relief:

Why is only short term relief provided with these seemingly strong treatments? While there is an infection present, it can not be healed without draining the infection or abscess from the side of the toe where the nail is piercing the skin. This piece of nail acts as a foreign body and must be removed for proper healing.

Unfortunately, many people seek treatment for these problems and are treated for months with antibiotics and never heal until they see a Podiatrist for removal of the piece of nail and drainage of the infection. The removal of the nail portion and drainage of the infection should actually be the first treatment received. All other treatments, including antibiotic pills or creams and soaking, are secondary to what is known as incision and drainage or drainage of infection.

Treatments are often done by you, the patient. This is known as "bathroom surgery" and is often performed with various homemade instruments. Often relief will be obtained but eventually many patients end up seeking professional help due to excessive pain and infection.

It should be noted that often after drainage of the infection, oral antibiotics are not always necessary. The problem with taking antibiotics over and over for this condition is that the bacteria modify themselves so that the antibiotic no longer works and antibiotic resistance is the result.

How can I get permanent relief from Ingrown Toenails?

Assuming that the infection is controlled and circulation is adequate for healing, there are procedures to remove the ingrown nail permanently. Normally only a small portion of nail is removed, not the complete nail. The result is cosmetically pleasing once full healing has occurred. There is a 95% success rate!

There are several methods for the permanent procedure. The most common method is using a chemical for the destruction of the nail root or growth area, also known as the matrix. Common chemicals used include phenol and sodium hydroxide.

After removal of the abnormal nail portion, the chemical is then used to destroy the root. A light bandage is applied. Care at home is simple and recovery involves cleaning the area and applying antibiotic cream. Most people have minimal pain after the procedure. Some redness, swelling and clear drainage are normal for several weeks to a month depending on the individual reaction to the chemical. There are rarely complications, however, as with any procedure you physician will review possible complications.

So, there is no need to suffer with ingrown nails when you can have this procedure. The procedure is safe and performed in the office with a local anesthetic. The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes.

Dr. Katz prides himself on compassion and concern for all patients.
