Freelance journalism is one of the more hectic forms of freelance writing. If you want to become a successful freelance journalist, you'll need to be comfortable with spending much time hunting down stories, traveling from place to place, and writing under short deadlines. If you enjoy all of that, and if you're interested in some of the best opportunities for personal creativity, then freelance journalism may be for you.

When we talk about freelance journalism, we need to distinguish between two types: newspaper journalism and magazine journalism. As a rule, newspaper journalism involves a much narrower range of subject matter than magazine journalism, significantly shorter articles, and a greater focus on form. Typical newspaper articles follow a hierarchical format: the most pertinent information first, the least pertinent last. For example, an article about a local parade would start with "The X Parade will travel down Main Street at 10:00 Saturday in support of Y," while it might end with "Onlookers are advised to bring umbrellas."

Additionally, writing as a newspaper journalist means that you need the ability to find out about the news. Often, a journalist's day looks like this: the editor assigns the journalist an article topic at 6 AM. By 8 AM, the journalist is making phone calls to various parties related to the topic. For a story on rising gas prices, this may include CEOs of oil companies, local gas station owners, car owners (interviewed on the street or at gas stations), car manufacturers, and local policymakers. Journalists usually interview anyone with a meaningful connection to the topic, and who can provide some good, succinct quotes and information.

Information-gathering goes on for most of the day, usually ending around evening. The journalist then works on the article, fact-checking where appropriate, before submitting it for publication sometime that night, with the deadline depending on the individual paper. Then the journalist is able to go to sleep--until 6 AM rolls around again, and the next article topic comes in.

More leeway is available with the larger "feature" articles. These appear in film sections, lifestyle sections, health sections or other less breaking-news-focused parts of the daily paper. Often newspapers publish these sections weekly, rather than daily, to save on printing costs.

For example, the film section may only appear on Fridays, the food section on Tuesdays, etc. The upshot of this is the freelance journalist has more time to research and to work on an excellent, well-rounded article. Using the same research methods (calling everyone connected to the topic, scheduling interviews, synthesizing succinct points from a large information pool), a feature writer constructs a more in-depth look at a given topic than a news writer can achieve in a short column of text.

Additionally, there's occasionally more freedom in the choice of subject matter. Perhaps you know about an excellent local band in need of a profile? Maybe you volunteer in a community organization that does interesting work and deserves a write-up? How about writing an article on the health benefits of soybeans? A newspaper's "features" section can be an excellent venue and a personal one, which can be rare in freelance writing. Additionally, feature articles don't depend heavily on the hierarchical "news" format, making your job much easier (or harder, if you find it difficult to structure an article without set guidelines.)

Magazine journalism is similar to the "feature" style of newspaper journalism, albeit with much more generous word limits (and often more generous pay rates.) The downside is that a magazine may not have as many opportunities for publishing your work. The broader subject matter of a magazine may also result in topics that require more legwork and potential travel expenses (hopefully paid for by the magazine) than just a profile of a local policymaker. To be an effective magazine writer, you'll need to look much harder for article ideas, but the payoff can be well worth it.

How do you scout out freelance journalism jobs? For newspapers, have some sample articles written, a good working knowledge of style guides (especially Associated Press style), and a willingness to work on whatever is available until the editor or publisher promotes you to working on more enjoyable assignments. For magazines, it's best to research your articles and write them in advance; afterwards you can send query letters to the appropriate editors in hopes of becoming published. In either case, submission information is printed on the staff page of magazines and newspapers. You can also find submission information online at the publications' web sites.

The career of a journalist isn't for everyone. Whereas many freelance writing projects are about a predictable routine of research and writing, the variety and novelty of writing news and feature articles eschews all routine in favor of a constant flurry of ad hoc interviews, phone calls and general information-gathering. But to some people, this is far from a drawback. If you're one of those people, start developing your portfolio now, get in touch with some editors (either by appointment or by query), and prepare yourself for a successful career in freelance journalism. <bio>Brian Konradt is the author of the book, "Freelance Poker Writing: How to Make Money Writing for the Gaming Industry," available at http://www.FreelancePokerWriting.com.
There are many different types of journalism styles out there to choose from when starting a career in journalism. You may have already decided on a style that interests you but whether you are into Gonzo journalism or reporting news, most journalists start from ground zero and build themselves and their reputation up from there. No matter what style you chose in the end there are some important things to remember in order to get your work noticed.

There are certain traits a budding journalist will already need to have when embarking on a career in journalism. A good journalist must have; a keen interest in people, an inquisitive nature, ability to meet deadlines and outstanding communication skills. Basically, if you are not interested in what people have to say, their emotions and their achievements you simply can not function as a journalist.

Take up a part time course

I have met many people who have found taking an evening or at home journalism course very helpful. They won't teach you all you possibly need to know but they give you a good base to start with. You can find courses like this at most local colleges that run during the year or even shorter courses for ten weeks at a time. Online journalism schools especially offer an array of courses which are more specialized such as sports journalism, community journalism, photo journalism, feature articles, conducting interviews, shorthand and many more. It will give you a base to start gaining experience which all journalists need. You never know, it might open doors to other things!

Cross your T's and dot your I's!

I really can not stress enough the importance of spelling, punctuation and grammar. Sending off work that has not been spell checked or edited will only look bad on you and will tarnish your reputation. An editor might think you have a good story, but they do not have time to correct mistakes as they have deadlines too. An important tip to remember is to never not proof read your own work and to double check over and over!

Read and write whenever you get the chance

Try to read whatever you can get your hands on. It is important for a journalist to keep up to date and analyse other styles that are out there. This will also help you develop a good news sense. It is a good tip from early on to archive clippings of any articles you have written, as you might need to fall back on them later.

Try and read and rewrite smaller articles as much as you can. This is a good habit to pick up to keep you in the 'write' frame of mind. I find it helps before writing anything as the words seems to flow more.

When I first started writing as a freelance journalist the only way I could really publicize myself was to write for free for a local community newspaper. Free jobs like these I feel is where the most experience is gained as you get the chance to strengthen your style and build up the speed in which you can produce a good article. It will give you a good opportunity to build up relationships with editors and get to know good contacts.

There are also many different outlets out there that you can use to advertise your work. The internet is one of the best for this. You can also start your own website, blog, ghost write... There are many websites that offer new and experienced writers places to showcase their work. With the internet especially, there are no limits to what you can do!<bio>The author writes for several websites including her own Article Directory BB Articles, the Creative Writing and Make Money From Writing sites where you will find lots of tips and information about making money from writing.</bio>

Traditionally, journalists have more or less worked alone. Journalists in both the news business and feature writers for magazines typically will develop their stories, dig up their leads, conduct their interviews and draft the final product themselves. In the newspaper business, major stories will sometimes become collaborative efforts where several reporters are working on aspects of a story and their work is edited into a single piece, published under multiple bylines.

Communicating with a journalist was generally a haphazard affair, placing a call to a switchboard or desk and leaving a message. Today, major newspapers all have websites and provide email addresses for most of their journalists and nearly all of their columnists. People who write columns and opinion pieces are generally more open to communicating with the public because their work is often designed to generate controversy and feedback is important. Occasionally columnists will find ideas for new topics in the email traffic they receive, or will write about the heavy response they received on a particular piece.

A journalist with some initiative can take this communications process one step further by setting up a personal website. That site can serve several purposes: all of them require some work. The function of the site depends, to some degree, on the amount of time the journalist is willing to devote to it. A working reporter may also have to negotiate permission to engage in some online publishing of his own with the editorial staff of the paper or magazine that employs him.

Internet blogs have made some opinionated people in this country powerful and well known, just by virtue of their daily journaling. A working journalist could set up a blog for which he could provide occasional entries, relating to his work or to other news stories or totally unrelated subjects. The value of a blog is that it provides the opportunity for open dialogue among all who wish to log on and participate. Name recognition can be meaningful to some journalists and blogging is one way to develop andquot;viralandquot; recognition by inviting communication. Many people will be attracted to the opportunity to communicate with someone who gets paid to publish.

Blogs can develop story lines for topics for journalists, particularly columnists and feature writers. They can help a professional writer build a persona that doesn't enter into the straight journalism he produces on the job. A personal blog is a way to build a public and well rounded profile that the constraints of a traditional journalism job don't usually allow.

A personal website can also provide the journalist an opportunity to showcase a andquot;profileandquot; of work that is unrelated to the job, or at least has gone unpublished by the employer. Here again, there is a fine line between what the journalist can do online - which is essentially public exposure - and what the requirements of exclusivity on the job may be. But if a journalist has ventured into fiction, a personal website is a great way to put it out there for exposure.

If the goal is a publishing opportunity for fictional work, the website may be a way to short circuit the formal submission rules for fictional work that magazines and book publishers maintain. An established journalist is already a professional writer. Asking a book publishing editor or potential agent to look at product posted on a website is much easier than engaging in the formal process. <bio>Madison Lockwood is a customer relations associate for http://www.apollohosting.com. You put the words into the search bar and it comes up with page after page listings of them.

Well, have you ever heard of freelance web copywriters? Most of these freelance copywriters are much less expensive and can give you pretty reasonable results as well. Some are familiar with the search engine optimization system while others are not, all you have to do is ask them.

These freelance web copywriters offer solutions to help you build your web site, By offering a versatile variety of doing web sites on various products and informative sites as well. There are those who are new at doing freelance web copywriting so it is better to get one that has been doing it for a while. However, those who have been doing it for some time will assist you in any way they possibly can, in order to get your web site in order the way you want it to be.

Using whatever is on your web site such as information or products they basically come up with an outline of what or how you want your web site to be. Then, they use the use of words to design your advertisement for the web site. Freelance web copywriters can be as efficient as those who are higher priced. They know that the use of text and putting as many as the keywords as possible into the advertisement is the key to it all.

This causes the generation of traffic, customers, and those just browsing your website, in which by the way are usually caught up in the freelance web copywriters writing that the one that is browsing your web site continues on your web site, checking out your products and various things they might find on it. The freelance web copywriters that are aware of search engine optimization, also know that through the text, there will be even more traffic to your web site, simply because every time a keyword they have placed in the advertisement for your web site will ultimately appear with the search results.

In a lot of cases, freelance web copywriters can be more thorough with your web site on a personal level as well. They choose unique keywords that are specifically designed to direct traffic to your web site.

Being on a more personal level gives them the advantage with working with you on a one on one basis and figuring out exactly how your web site should be, Some bigger copywriting agencies have many contracts to do web site advertising so they don't have the time, to put their absolute best into the web site.

However, freelance web copywriters are becoming more and more heard of and used by different web site creators. Considering all the web sites that are created everyday, there are a lot of advertisements that need to be done for the web sites.

Freelance web copywriters get the job done as quickly as possible however they also get the job done as professionally as possible too. They know that through their advertisement and the description that they put forth on your web site basically is like painting a picture without the use of brushes or paint. Yet, through the use of wording they can lure even the best customers to your web site. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects.
Writing a press release doesn't need to be difficult. Here are 10 tips for writing a successful press release.

1 - You are writing for <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/journalists" rel="tag">journalists Press releases aren't for customers or consumers they are for reporters, journalists who will use them as a starting point for a larger story or feature. Write your story as you would like to have it told. Press releases written as sales pieces will be completely ignored. The points you make in your press release and the order in which you make them may direct the journalist in how to develop the story.

2 - Start with a strong "lead" The first paragraph of the press release is known as the "lead". The lead needs to be strong, communicating your message quickly and concisely. You need to use your headline and first paragraph effectively so that they standalone and that if only those portions were to be read, there would be enough information to understand what the release is about. The rest of your press release should provide the detail. Journalists see maybe thousands of press releases a day, you have a few seconds to grab your their attention.

3 - What is your angle? The media are always on the look out for a good story. Your press release needs to be more than just. fact, it needs to be newsworthy. Understanding why journalists would find your story interesting is the key to success. Think about the release from the journalist's point of view, put yourself in their shoes. It is best to make your press release timely and to tie it to current events or social issues if possible. Find a good angle, a good news hook and you have the start of a good press release.

4 - Who, what, where, when and why A good press release needs to answer all of the "W" questions (who, what, where, when and why), providing the journalist with useful information about your organization, product, service or event. If your press release reads like an advertisement or sales pitch, dump it.

5 - Why should anyone care? Company launches, new websites and changes of management happen all the time and so aren't interesting. You need to concentrate on what makes your new company, web site, CEO or product unique. Ask yourself the question, "Why should anyone care?" Concentrate on the aspects of your press release that makes it different.

6 - Add the human touch Always use real life stories about how your organization identified a problem and solved it. How did your service or product fulfil a need or help the community. Real life examples communicate the benefits of using your product or service in a powerful way.

7 - Keep to the point Use enough words to tell your story, no more and no less. Don't pad your release with unnecessary adjectives or flowery language. But at the same time make each word count.

8 - Limit the jargon The best way to communicate your news is to speak plainly. You may need to use some jargon or industry specific lingo, but limit it to the minimum. Industry specific terms are only understood by people in the same industry where as your press release is aimed at a general readership.

9 - Add an "About" section Make sure you add an "About" section where you describe your company and services. This will be useful for setting the press release in a context. Don't forget to add the URL of your website.

10 - Add good contact information If a journalist picks up on your press release they will want to talk with you. Just adding your website URL isn't enough. As a minimum you need to add a contact name and an email address. Even better add a phone number where you can be contacted. <bio>Gary Sims has a degree in Business Information Systems from a British university.
One of the most in demand freelance professionals is photographers. Freelance photography is lucrative especially if you have established a good reputation in the industry and in the community. The going rate per assignment can skyrocket, and many freelance photographers charge per picture and not per assignment.

The Internet has provided more work for freelance photographers. With the rising costs of basic commodities, many are turning to freelance work as a side line or as a means for extra income.

Below are just some of the ways in which you can do freelance photography.

Photo Sites

Photos.com (www.photos.com) and similar websites provide photo services to people and businesses. Freelance photographers can submit their work online and get paid for each photo. Of course, the pay is not as good as being hired to do photographs for an event, but you can earn royalty payments based on the number of photos you submit.

Wedding Photographs

Many freelance photographers do wedding photographs. Not only are you hired to take photos for the wedding day and the receptions, but also before the wedding. In fact, many couples hire a photographer to do their engagement party, their bachelor's party and their bridal shower. Photographers can also do engagement portraits as well as wedding portraits.

Another area you can earn money during weddings is taking photograph shots of the guests and then selling them afterwards during the receptions. As most people do not have someone who can take photographs, you can actually earn a lot from this. If you can, offer packages at low prices. This way, you will be able to earn more. You can even suggest they use photos as their souvenirs.

Event Coverage

Freelance photographers can earn a lucrative income by covering events where the pay is given per picture. This is often the case with magazines and newspapers which hire correspondent photographers to cover the events for them. Online webzines and other websites are also other areas which you should look into. Companies with websites also pay freelance photographers to update their online pictures and photos. <bio>Launch a freelance career today!
Many small businesses are still not aware of how has the Internet changed the rules of sending a press release. Most people don't realize that big front page stories do not come as a result of a press release - the big stories come about because of specialized pitches to a particular media organization. So what are press releases for, if 9 out of 10 are deleted or tossed by the journalists? The Internet has changed these four rules for sending out a news release:

1. Post online for content to be picked up by search engines instead of journalists.

It used to be that a press release was written to catch the attention of a busy journalist. Now when you write a press release you need to optimize the content for what your audience, the end user, is searching for on the search engines. When you write a press release it should be rich with key words and key word phrases.

2. Write to attract the web surfing consumer and not the journalist.

You press release should be key word rich, and it should "speak" to the end user instead of a journalist without beinging a blatant sales pitch. Your message should be informational and not a "buy now" message. A good press release answers all of the "W" questions (who, what, where, when and why), providing the reader with useful information about your organization, product, service or event. If your press release reads like an advertisement, rewrite it.

3. Write longer press releases with more content - previously limited by the media because they were overwhelmed by too many.

When you write, stick to the facts. Tell the truth. Avoid fluff, embellishments and exaggerations. But, because you are not writing just for a busy journalist who is reading through hundreds of news releases you can write to appeal to the end user who has found you while searching for specific words or phrases found by the search engines in your press release. You can tell more of your story because your audience is the end user.

4. "Legitimate" news that a journalist would cover is NOT required content - promote whatever you want to within your release, not just what the media thinks is newsworthy.

If your news release provides relevant information or an announcement that addresses the key words and key word phrases that the end user is searching for - then your news release is "newsworthy" since it is what the end user is looking for.

Keep in mind that a press release should not be confused with an article. Your press release should not educate but inform about your product, service or individual in your company.

One final tip from PRWeb. According to PRWeb about 30% of all press releases are submitted with a personal email rather than a "role email". Use a role account instead of a personal account. A role account is pr@companyname.com. A personal account would be pat@companyname.com. Using a role account allows you to redirect e-mail to someone who can respond while you are on vacation. After all, you do not want to miss valuable contacts. You never want readers and responders to your press release to receive a message telling them that you are unavailable during the week because of your high school reunion or business convention. <bio>Melody Campbell, Business Coach invites Small Business Owners to do an "Extreme Marketing Make-Over."
The term freelance has been described as andquot;A person who sells services to employers without a long-term commitment to any of them.andquot; This is essentially the truth of freelance writing. In many ways a freelancer works as a subcontractor. A freelance writer accepts work offered by a magazine or newspaper with no long-term commitment or promise of ongoing assignments.

It is possible that someone you have written for on a freelance basis will return to you with an additional assignment, but you have no guarantee.

The typical scenario for a freelance writer is to receive payment by the word, although some publishers will offer a specified fee for a word range. For instance they may offer $100 for a thousand words (within 50 words either side of 1000).

Most freelance writers do not rely exclusively on freelance writing for their income. Many freelance writers have part or full time jobs and will offer their skills with the written word as time allows.

Publishers enjoy the benefits of freelance writers simply because they do not have to pay a full time salary, nor do they have to provide benefits. They also have a choice of who they want to work with and on the specific jobs they determine the freelance writer is best suited for.

Much of the success of freelance work begins with speculative work. In essence, the beginning stages of freelance work means you write articles that may never be in print. By following submission guidelines carefully you have the best chance of having an editor take a look at your material and possibly consider your services as a good fit for their publication.

Many established freelancers will have clients return to them for additional work. Many freelancers find seasons when they simply fulfill writing requests with no additional push in finding new work.

Editors and publishers are looking for people that are capable of handling work in a timely fashion and with the skill and style that is a compliment to their publication. When they find a good freelancer they are likely to return to that individual regularly for additional assignments.

If you have considered working as a freelance writer begin your journey with research and speculative writing and then remain persistent. <bio>Scott Lindsay is a web developer and entrepreneur.
Freelance work is growing by leaps and bounds. Perhaps this is because what Americans earn in their regular jobs is no longer sufficient to support their monthly expenses. With the rising costs of living, this is not surprising anymore.

Freelance work also benefits the company. As opposed to hiring regular employees, companies don't have to provide benefits to freelance workers. In fact, most of these freelance workers have a job of their own and are just in need of a little extra cash in their hands.

Freelance jobs often involve creative works like websites, web content and graphics. Some also need or hire people who can sell products on the side in exchange for a commission. Though it is not so hard to do freelance work, it is important that people manage their time as this can become a source of stress for them.

Below are some tips you can follow to have a stress-free freelance job.

Make a time table

As hard as it is to do and as obsessive-compulsive as it may seem, setting a time table for your freelance work is one way to deal with it. This is important as most freelancers have a day job that they attend to.

Divide and conquer

Eating a whole pie in just one serving can give you indigestion. The same goes with freelance work. Doing all the work in just one day can lead you to high stress levels.

What you can do to avoid this is to divide the job into smaller pieces that you can "chew" everyday during your free time. This way, you are slowly completing the job without feeling a lot of stress. Make sure when you divide the job, you will not lose the continuity and make the job appear to be disjointed.

This is especially true with jobs that must have coherence such as with writing or with drawing. Moods for the day can influence the drawings and the style of writing. Before you divide the job, make sure you have taken this into consideration.

Discipline yourself

Managing your time and dividing the work cannot be done if you don't have the discipline to see it through. This means you have to make sure you stick to your schedule. For instance, if you have to finish a specific amount of work at a certain period, then make sure you finish it.

If you don't, at least make sure you can cover what you have not done on your next day. For example, if you promised yourself to finish three articles every day and you managed to finish only two today, then you will need to finish four the next day. <bio>Launch a freelance career today!
Don't want to write articles yourself but still want to capitalize on article marketing? Then using a freelance writer is for you! Believe it or not, it is very easy to find freelance writers who will write articles for you on the Internet.

There are a number of freelance websites where you can find someone who will write articles for you for a very low price. However, you do want to be careful and select those writers who will provide quality articles in which you can market for your website.

There are a few things to check into when selecting a freelance writer. First of all check to if they have good comments or feedback from previous customers of theirs. If other customers have been satisfied with their work then chances are you will also.

You also want to be sure that they write original content, as duplicate content is not allowed and will not be published by article directories. You can test the waters by having a freelance writer write an article or two and then check it on http://copyscape.com to make sure the articles were not just copied from somewhere else.

You want to choose a freelance writer that is knowledgeable in the subject you want articles written about or is willing to research information to create accurate original documents for you.

Now that you know what to watch for in hiring a freelance writer, go to the freelance site, and post your request. Writers will then bid on your projects and many of them will provide you with samples so you can see the quality of their work. Many marketers opt to choose more than one freelance writer to write for them. By doing so they increase the number of articles and increase their chances of getting great articles to submit. Remember, these articles will reflect on you so you want to be sure you are receiving quality articles.

You will see results in the search engines rather quickly if you have provided your freelance writers the proper keywords and instructed them to use them in the title and several times throughout the articles. One article has the potential to be worth hundreds of dollars so paying for well written articles is absolutely worth it!

Once your articles have been posted you should start to see targeted traffic sent to your site and you should also see some sales. If the sales are coming in and you're making money, you will certainly want to have your freelance writer or writers write more articles for you.

Using freelance writers is a great way to be involved in article marketing without having to write all the articles yourself. Many marketers would rather spend their precious time in another area. By hiring writers they can maximize their time and efforts to promote their website and product. Using the tips above everyone can be successful in article marketing and begin to see the positive results that it brings.<bio>Sign up for my free article marketing report and learn the secrets of article marketing to boost online profits at Article-Marketeer.com .</bio>

All wedding photographers take pictures of a bride and groom in a setting known as their wedding. A wedding brings to people together to celebrate a decision made by the couple to spend the rest of their lives together. There are many things that come together for a wedding celebration, the invitations, the reception at a designated banquet hall, limousines for the bridal party and family, a wedding cake and wedding photographers.

Wedding photographers are responsible of freezing a moment in time on a joyous occasion and have it live forever in the eyes all of the family and friends to see. A journalist writes about an event that has taken place in a news publication, reporting on the important moments of the events and highlighting what was key.

A wedding photojournalist combines all the skills of both a wedding photographer and journalist and captures the wedding event is such a way where he or she tell their story through the angles of their pictures. They take images that represent what they want to say and transpose it into 1000 words. They take pictures like any other photographer would but do it in such a way that there is more then what meets the eye.

The difference between a wedding photographer and a wedding photojournalist is a wedding photographer takes wedding pictures as a still photo; there is a backdrop behind the couple, however, the photo does not do more than emphasize the 2 posing for the camera. A wedding photojournalist takes a photo similar to the wedding photographer, with the focus on the newlyweds and a backdrop in the background but what differs between a wedding photographer and a wedding photojournalist is the photojournalist creates a story with the picture. A photojournalist is able to make a min-story, a theme behind the picture as if it is explaining an ad, or displaying a product through the entire photograph.

The photo that a photojournalist takes is not a photo but a visual write-up of the moment, it says so much more than what a photo taken by a wedding photographer does. They create a story with every picture they take. Now, don't get us wrong, wedding photographers are skilled at what they do, they take excellent pictures and capture every moment exceptionally. It is just that a wedding photojournalist sets up a photo differently than a wedding photographer does.

So in conclusion, a wedding photographer is a vital component to any wedding celebration, they allow you to capture a moment in time with your wedding by celebrating it through the magic of film or video. A wedding photojournalist allows you to capture a moment in time on your wedding celebration, however the difference between the 2 is that a wedding photojournalist does so by capturing a story, something a journalist would do through the use of a camera and some imagination and you have a 1000 word story instilled into one photo!<bio>Toronto Photojournalistabylon is proud to offer a spectacular experience for your entertainment needs.
I was at a school where racial segregation SEEMED to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. To them. Because the black girls had total control over our entire environment, and all the boys were in their section of the playground. The black girls were somehow in the spread out zone map of egalitarian war. I was the "journalist." I wandered the playground, interviewing every segregated group on it. There were the black girls who jumped rope like it was goin' out of style. There were the white girls who had to bow to that Goddess of Jumping, the master of the black girls. Everybody was into it funny. I didn't cause any of the "events" that happened there, I just entered each girl section of the segregated girls playground, interviewing every one of them like I was Alex Hailey or something, the ghost writer who helped Malcolm X write his book.

I will never make it that far in life...

I even got my damn African glasses knocked off when I tried to go to the boy's playground and interview them. They had a non-racist playground going. We had a racist, tallist, shortest, Jewest, Christian, fat girl segregated playground going, and somehow, if it meant something to us that we were evil incarnate, that worked for everyone else but me. Me? Nuh uh.

No fat girl section on the playground. All the girls were getting ready for an unknown zone called Basic Training for Viet Nam, I guess. They had to keep their figures.

I had to go to each segregated section of the playground, interviewing every evil loser queen on it, because the black girls were winning on our Negativity Playground.

As I went through life, I became the heroic Lost Girl Journalist in it. Yeah, there is now Jeanne Emerson, is there not? I was never able to become a tall white male journalist.

First I saw the black girl section, three black girls there, saw them skippin' rope like sixty double dutch, and said to myself, "I can't do that, what's up with that? I know what. There's a section of the playground I can play in." I did a limp wrist at them and said aloud, "Ah, tha's jus' them," and moved on to the white girls who were skipping rope. They hated me completely becuase they had forgotten what they were doing while being forced into doing it.

It wasn't even double dutch, and I still couldn't handle it. I jumped a teeny bit, and moved on. For I was the fat girl, I was ALWAYS new there, and there was no such fat girl section on the playground. But as I moved on, I headed towards the boy's section of the playground, and as I walked toward it, thinking they wouldn't mind, a white boy with black hair saw me, and threw the ball as hard as he possibly could.

It was a basketball and it zoomed straight into my face and knocked off my glasses because it didn't hit very hard after all. I started to cry, contained myself, and picked up my glasses. There was no glasses section on the playground. I put my glasses back on and continued, as my part Indian self and part black self woke up, and knew it wasn't Jesus Christ the Lord. I sighed. I would tell them something, somehow, but I didn't know what. Some say I never did.

I moved on. Eventually there was the tall girl section of the playground. As I had previously exhibited courage, they let me in. Probably the tall Catholic girls. Dunno. They let me in conditionally, conditionally to what, I do not know. When I admitted I favored Indians, especially Indian chiefs, they kicked me out.

Wow. I next move on to the segregated Jewish and Christian or mostly Jewish or whatever section it was, cottoned to it being the Jewish section right away, you know Christians, they read both books...I hung out with them for this:

Miss Lucy had a steamboat The steamboat had a bell Miss Lucy went to heaven The steamboat went to hello Operator, give me number nine And if you disconnect me I'll kick you in the behind The refrigerator There was a piece of glass Miss Lucy sat upon it And broke her little ask me No more questions I'll tell you no more lies...

So I added the last line, already, already. Which was the boys are in the ----room Making chocolate pies. <bio>RAINBOW WRITING, INC. http://www.rainbowriting.com -- We offer inexpensive freelance writing, copy editing, ghost writing, graphics and CAD, Internet marketing, publishing help, search engine optimization, professional free services and supercheap dedicated web hosting and site development.
Once you have a little experience you can show your potential clients its time to start looking for them. The simplest way to to this is to create and maintain a client list.

To get your client list started, research what companies you would like to work for. Check out their websites, especially any employment section they may have, as they may have freelance opportunities listed. If they already use freelancers you'll have a much easier time getting them to consider you than if they are unfamiliar with freelancers.

Study their needs. Even if they don't have any job listings on their website or don't have a website, you can research what the company does to determine where you could help them. You need to know how to present yourself and your skills when you write your query letter. Showing that you understand what their business does shows that you are a professional.

Expect rejection. It's simply a fact of life as a freelancer. Maybe they just don't need you at the moment or maybe your style doesn't appeal to them. Whatever the reason there are plenty of other things you can do.

Do not pester companies to hire you, but don't give up too quickly either. Monthly is about right when it comes to checking to see if their needs have changed.

Even though you now have experience, don't neglect the online resources mentioned before. Now is the time to start going for the higher paying assignments and more challenging employers. Clients who appreciate professional work don't mind paying for a good job. They may not always be easy to find but they are out there.

If writing articles is your style, don't forget to buy Writer's Market. It's one of the best resources out there for freelance writers. There are similar resources for other freelance careers.

If you aren't getting enough work, just use the time you would like to spend working for pay practicing your skills. Pretend you have an assignment. Interview family members, write articles, reports, instruction manuals for software you own, whatever you hope to do for an employer do on your own.

Above all else, keep your habits professional. Maintain a solid work schedule and don't treat your business as a hobby or that is all it will be. <bio>Stephanie Foster runs http://www.find-freelance.com/ as a resource for freelancers to get their careers started.
What's an easy way to gain Massive Publicity?

Massive publicity can give your music career an enormous boost which can mean more music sales and much more exposure. There are many ways to get publicity. Certain tactics and gimmicks like controversial stunts have been utilized by countless musicians to get public attention and many these work great.

One of the exceptionally effective ways of promoting one's music is by attracting music journalists. The key is to leverage the extensive media resources of music journalists in your favor.

Music journalism is a form of journalism which deals with writing reviews and criticisms about music. You may encounter several music journalism columns in the major dailies and the magazines. These people know how to write, therefore attracting people to read their columns and read about a musician and their heart-felt music. Many have a huge reach and can get your name, web address and event dates in front of a huge audience.

There are tons of music journalists out there and they can be the best way that a budding musician can get into the spotlight if you don't already have connections to the big leagues. A good strategy is to put the elements of the Internet and music journalism together. A musician can strike a deal with a music journalist that they will do an interview and the write-up can be displayed on-line by both parties. A website would be more interesting to read if there is a section on "Interviews" or "What music journalists are saying about the music." Interviews convey interaction and it is more interesting to read write-ups which are based on wonderful interview questions.

Some tips for attracting music journalists are:

1) Study the stories that various media journalists publish on a regular basis. 2) Ask yourself what made these stories newsworthy. 3) Choose similar newsworthy characteristics about yourself or band and create a write-up that you can submit to these music journalists.

Another good idea is to have a live chat interview that can be accessed through the website, if possible. This way, people can also participate in the question and answer portions. This can be done using the free Voice Over IP telephony service called Skype. http://www.skype.com

What you do is record your call using pretty much any sound editing program that will pickup the sound that comes through your sound card. A excellent and free program to use for this is Audacity located at: audacity.sourceforge.net . Next save this as an mp3 for easy distribution.

Facing a music journalist is no joke. They will ask questions that the interviewee should be prepared to answer instantly. Preparing for an interview takes nothing more than being sober and being punctual. All the questions can be answered by a musician from their heart and that's all that matters. Many musicians screw up their interviews with music journalists because they want to sound sophisticated whereas they would have done better if they stuck to the truth and be simple.

After having an interview, it would be best if the music journalist can be able to see the gig. The interview is actually the easy part, it's the gig that really matters. The music journalist will have ears for the notes and eyes for the whole performance. Music journalists know their stuff and how they are going to write their experiences. <bio>WMP Article Staff Start Selling Your Music Online Within The Next 20 Minutes http://www.websitemusicplayer.com </bio>

The expiration date on your copyrighted music isn't something you have to worry about, at least not in your lifetime. The music that you've written is copyrighted the moment you've put it onto paper or recorded it. The reason you don't have to worry about expiration is because the music is protected until 70 years after the death of the author. In the case of your music, that author would be you.

This rule about copyright music expiration was first put into place so that the families and heirs of an author could still earn royalties even after his or her death. Ultimately this means that if you've taken the steps to copyright your music and have registered the copyright, then your music will be protected throughout your lifetime until 70 years after you or the last surviving author (assuming a collaboration) is deceased.

Copyright music expiration is not something you should make a primary concern unless you are having issues of someone respecting and/or honoring your copyright at the moment. You should take comfort in the fact that as long as you are alive you are the only one who can assign your copyright to another person; and as long as you haven't given up your ownership of the music it still belongs to you.

This is different, however, if your copyrighted music was work "made for hire." If that is the case then you cannot have ownership of the music, as it never legally belonged to you, but the person or entity who hired you to produce the music. Works made for hire have different copyright music expiration than those owned by the creator. With works made for hire, the copyrights are in effect for 95 years from the original publication date or for 120 years from the creation of the work, whichever of the two is shorter. <bio>Brian Scott is a freelance journalist who covers copyright law for http://www.ResearchCopyright.com. </bio>

More people are finding freelance employment outside of their regular day jobs. They leave the security of their regular employment to move on to the challenges of freelance employment. Freelancing has become a career choice for many people who enjoy the benefits that it offers. Freelancers often attribute their interest to freelance employment to the following factors:

=95 Wider range of job opportunities; =95 Fast turnaround of projects; =95 More freedom to choose projects of choice; =95 More flexibility to work on different jobs on a simultaneous basis; and =95 High income rates

Do you have what it takes to freelance? Before you take the plunge and begin the journey of working at home, read through the following steps.

1. Determine the amount of money you'll need to earn to sustain your expenses. If you have a day job now, you will save a lot of money once you make your shift to freelance employment. If you begin to work at home, you will save a lot of money from commuting, food, taxes, and more.

2. Take a self-assessment test. List all of your skills and experiences. Include your hobbies and interests; doing this will determine what types of freelance jobs you can handle. Do you keep a personal website? Then perhaps you can freelance as a website designer? Do you keep a personal blog? Maybe you can freelance as a writer or blogger? If you know how to conduct searches on the Internet, you can write about any topic that may be given to you.

3. Visit websites offering freelance jobs and see what jobs are currently offered. Take notes and keep a list of these jobs. You should also be on the lookout for companies and organizations which use freelancers for their projects. Look at how much they pay freelancers and pay attention to the different rates for different projects. Keep a list of these important details as they will surely help you in estimating how much you should charge for a project.

4. Try to estimate the costs of a project if the client were to award it to you. Keep in mind the number of hours or days it might take you to complete. What would you need to charge for an hourly rate? When you have done this, you will be able to determine how much you could potentially earn.

5. After doing all of the above, you can start applying for freelance jobs. These jobs will help you earn some amount that you can later use after quitting your day job.

6. Once you have confirmed that the projects have been awarded to you, use a table to plot specific data about them. Write down all the information about these projects such as contact persons and their contact details and number of days to complete the projects.

7. As you begin freelance work, you will start to feel the flow of freelance employment. Bear in mind that you will not get all the projects that you want, so apply for different jobs. Be cautious when taking on several jobs. Don't take on more jobs than you can handle.

8. Always track your freelance jobs and how often clients pay you. When you have developed an effective system of securing freelance work (and getting paid for your time), then you might feel you are ready to quit your day job.

An excellent resource to learn about launching a freelance career is Andy Anderson's book or audio book, "How to Make Money from Home as a Freelancer," published by PaydayPublishing.com. <bio>Launch a freelance career today!
Freelance jobs are an excellent way to make money online. Outsourcing has become a major way to do business competitively. There are numerous ways to freelance online and several good websites that match buyers and providers for freelance projects. There are several different categories of freelance jobs, and these range from creative or descriptive article writing to complete web site design, and everything in between.

To be successful at freelancing, and to actually make money online from it, you must be able to work independently and meet project deadlines. There is no boss reminding you of things, so being organized is a plus if you plan on freelancing. Sit down and list all of the skills and qualifications that you have. Honestly assess how well you can use a computer and the Internet. Figure out what operating systems and software you are proficient with. These facts will determine exactly what freelance job categories you are qualified for.

There are a number of websites that you can join to bid on freelance jobs to make money online. Most of these sites are free to browse jobs, but if you win a bid and accept the project then there is usually a fee unless you are a member and pay a monthly or yearly fee. If you plan on doing a lot of freelance work to make money online, then it is a good idea to pay a flat fee per month and save some money. This is because the fees can add up to hundreds of dollars each month, depending on which job categories you qualify for and can do successfully. Some web design projects may pay a thousand dollars or more for one or two weeks work.

Only use freelance programs that offer an escrow feature for your own protection. An escrow account ensures that you receive payment for your work, and it also guarantees the buyer that the project is completed to their satisfaction before the money is released. A lot of these sites allow the provider and the buyer to rate each other after the project is complete, and these reviews are available to other buyers and providers. This allows buyers to evaluate the quality and professionalism of your skills, and lets other potential sources of income know how you rate as a freelancer.

To make money online by doing freelance jobs, you must first honestly evaluate what categories of jobs you would be successful at. Once you have decided this, research some of the freelance websites out there and join one or two at least. Browse through the available jobs and bid on the ones you can do. Once you have bid and won a project then you can accept it. Never start the project until the money has been deposited into an escrow account, so that you do not end up working for free. Making money online by doing freelance jobs is very possible if you know how.

Copyright =A9 2007 Joel Teo. All rights reserved.
Getting your site indexed by Google must be one of the easiest taskes to learn when doing SEO. It is absolutely essential to have your site indexed as without your site appearing in Google's searches you may as well not have a website.

There are a number of ways to get a website indexed by Google, some are Excellent and some are terrible. I will start with the bad ones first.

1) Go to Google's Add URL page and fill in the form.

This technique does work. However, it can take up to 6 weeks for your website to be indexed by Google. This technique is not recommended, I would even go so far to say that you should NEVER use the Add URL form.

2) Use a Variety of Automation Software to submit your site to hundreds of search engines.

This technique does not work very well for a number of reasons. The main reason is that some software resubmits to websites over and over again. This can get your website banned before you even start. Avoid using Auto Submission software at all costs.

3) The Only Way to Submit to Search Engines is to get backlinks to your site!

This is certainly the best way to get your site indexed by Google and the fastest too. All you have to do is get a website with a Page Rank (PR) of 5 or more to link to your site and your website will appear in the search results in 3 days or less. Also, there is no chance of your site being banned and you won't have to wait weeks and weeks for your site to appear in the search results.

By getting a single backlink to your site, all of the major search engines will be able to find your website. These include Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask Jeeves. <bio>Chris Angus is a freelance writer and journalist.
So you've decided to be a freelancer. Now all you need to do is go out there and get some clients, right?

That depends. How serious are you about this freelance thing? Does your success matter to you?

A solid business plan is part of being a serious business owner. This isn't something you need to slave over for months before you get started. It is a way for you to create direction for yourself.

Start out with an objective. Think about what you want to accomplish as a freelancer.

* What kind of work to do you want to do? * Do you want to work full time or part time? * Are you supplementing your income from another job or do you dream of using this as your sole income?

Now you need to think about how many hours you are willing to commit toward achieving your objective. Be realistic about the amount of time you can commit. If you are planning on working around something else in your life, be it another job or caring for your family, you need to know how much time you can spend without overdoing it. Nothing causes burnout faster than working too hard.

You may want to have a calendar, whether you prefer a day planner style or a large wall calendar, and write down the times you plan on working on your freelance career.

Decide on a time frame for your goals. Maybe you want to give yourself a year to get established as a freelancer, or maybe you think a few months is all you need. You need to decide on definite points to review your progress toward your goals. This can be a frustrating or an exhilarating experience, but it is very helpful to see where you are going.

What kind of freelancer do you want to be? There are so many options out there. Technical writing, copywriting, reporter, artist... there are all kinds of ways you can be a freelancer. Some will appeal more to you than others. Decide on how firm you are about your specialty too. You may decide to accept the occasional assignment outside your specialty.

Now the fun goal - how much do you want to earn?

This one takes a bit of research. You need to take a look at what hourly rate is realistic for the kind of freelancing you want to do.

When calculating what you will be earning, remember that you must break down the hours per week that you are willing to work into two parts - billable hours and time spent finding work and other details of running your business. Early on you will spend more of your time looking for work than actually working. Assuming a 50-50 split between the two is a reasonable way to calculate your early goals. Later on you can adjust them to reflect the amount of time you typically spend on each part.

Now that you have some ideas on what you want from your business, it's time to start reaching for your goals. <bio>Stephanie Foster started http://www.find-freelance.com/ to help those who want to freelance get started.
