You already know that switching to solar energy can have a big effect on the environment, but you might be wondering just how big an effect. After all, can one person or one family switching to solar energy for heat and electricity really make that much of a difference on the environment?

Yes! One person or one family can save 20,000 tons of greenhouse gas from polluting the environment just by using solar energy to heat your hot water and heat your home. 20,000 tons is a lot of greenhouse gases! And that's just if one home just switches to solar energy. Imagine the decrease in greenhouse gases that could happen if 20,000 people per year switched to using solar energy to heat their hot water and heat their home. Add to that the effects of reducing energy consumption by 50% if you use solar energy for electricity and suddenly the impact on the environment is enormous.

In addition to reducing the amount of greenhouse gases that you put out switching to solar energy has a big impact on the environment because you will be reducing the amount of fossil fuels that you are using. Fossil fuels are very bad pollutants and contribute directly to poor air quality and other environmental problems.

The environment isn't just hurt by people burning fossil fuels for energy. The environment is also hurt by what is necessary to get those fossil fuels. Enormous portions of the earth need to be dug up, processing plants and refineries built, and natural ecosystems destroyed all over the planet just to get to the fossil fuels that are buried in the earth. Most of the pristine wilderness is gone in any country that has natural deposits of fossil fuels because of the ever-growing demand that countries around the world have for fossil fuels.

When fossil fuels are processed there is a huge amount of solid waste, much of it toxic, that is left behind. This waste takes up space in landfills and then seeps into groundwater while the runoff flows to the waterways polluting the water and the soil. The carbon dioxide and other gases that are released poison the air for miles around the processing plants of these fossil fuels.

Solar energy might not solve all of the environmental problems that we face as a result of the overuse of fossil fuel but it's a start. Just having a few thousand people per year switch to using solar energy to heat and power their homes will be a big step towards creating a safer, cleaner environment for everyone. And since the costs of buying and installing solar panes is dropping all the time soon it will be a lot more common for homes to use solar energy for their power needs.

Some of the related articles at SolarPanelCenter.net are as follows:

* What are Solar Photovoltaic Systems?

* The History of Solar Panels

* Types of Solar Panels

* Solar Panel Shingles

* The Benefits of Using Solar Energy in Your Home

* How Much Money Can Installing Solar Panels Really Save?

* Solar Panel Use Around the World

* Solar Panel Use in the United States

* Is Using Solar Panels Right for You?<bio>Ainuddin Mohamad is the Webmaster of http://www.SolarPanelCenter.net and many other websites including http://www.Personal-Finance-Info.org and http://www.ForexTradingHQ.net</bio>

In all the debates on the effects and implications of global warming, climate change and CO2 emissions, one thing can certainly be agreed; things are changing. There may or may not be reason to discredit the idea that climate change is a man-made phenomena, and there may or may not - though this writer would definitely argue that such claims are false - be reason to doubt the detrimental effect of such concepts. But there can be no dispute on the fact that CO2 emission levels are rising; the EIA shows that CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels has risen steadily every year for 20 years.

With that rise, necessarily, comes global warming, and the shift in the earth's atmosphere and ecosystems that we generally term climate change. Some skeptics argue that the rise is either natural - a result of the great climatic pendulum - and others argue that it is unpreventable; it is quite validly claimed, for example, that the steady rise in world population levels are the chief contributor to growth in CO2 emissions worldwide. The argument goes that - short of official birth control policies - it would be almost impossible to curb the rise in population, and CO2 emissions are the inevitable consequence.

That view needs to be challenged. Certainly, there is some truth in the claim; population rises mean more people, and that creates a greater demand for fossil fuels, the source of most things that are able to feed, clothe, and house us. But that summation implies a necessary dependence on fossil fuels. It is true to say that the modern world relies on fossil fuels, so that the correlation is a strong one, but it is not a doomed relationship; much can be done, even if a total independence from fossil fuels is a current practical impossibility, to greatly reduce the world dependence on fossil fuels.

That can be seen when world population rates are compared with CO2 emissions percentages. The world's largest annual polluter, the U.S, contributes around 20% of annual world carbon emissions, and China, which comes in second, is closer to 15%. But China has the world's largest population, at close to one fifth, and the U.S comes in third this time, with roughly 5%. India sits between them, at around 17%. In world CO2 emissions levels, India falls in fifth behind Russia and Japan.

What this information resolutely shows is that, whilst there is certainly a link between the rise in population levels and the rise in CO2 emissions levels, they are by no means proportional; if one nation can contribute a fifth of annual emissions with just 5% of the world's population, then the problem of CO2 emissions levels must lie much more firmly in lifestyle habits than population levels. If that is the case - as evidence shows - then global warming, climate change and CO2 emissions are not unsolvable issues, and damage can be limited.

It seems like a fairly basic point, but it is such an important one; if CO2 emissions are not linked to unstoppable phenomena, then human beings can be made accountable. And if human beings can be made accountable, then those who subscribe to the dangers of global warming, CO2 emissions and climate change, are valid in their attempts to do everything they can to curb such an all consuming problem. Skeptics beware.<bio>Chris Woolfrey is an expert on global warming and climate change.
Have you ever considered making biodiesel? Well now is the time to start considering it. Anyone who reads the papers knows that fossil fuels are hurting our environment. Increased emissions of greenhouse gases are polluting the atmosphere and creating the effect of global warming. The effects are already seen in rising temperatures, poor air quality, acid rain, and failing health.

An additional dilemma with fossil fuels is that the resources are becoming fast depleted. Although technically renewable, nature fills fossil fuel reserves at a very slow rate, and companies tap them very quickly. With the combined effect of fossil fuels being required, they are also bad for the environment and soon to be gone as the world is finding itself in an awful dilemma. Yet this dilemma may be solvable by making biodiesel fuel as an affordable and clean alternative.

In the past, we have attempted to solve the fossil fuel problem using a combination of two methods. The first method has been to encourage people to use less fuel through education. This is ineffective and unnecessary. Although some people may be excessive in their fuel consumption, our society's dependence upon technology has created a system in which that consumption is necessary.

A second solution has been to increase the cost. Although rising prices are a side effect of increased demand and decreased supply, they also serve to limit the amount of fuel people can afford to consume. Unfortunately, this means the wealthy can still use just as much, while everyone else cannot. If everyone was making biodiesel, there would be no limit, allowing people to drive their vehicles to work and heat their homes in the winter easily.

It is bad enough that fossil fuels and the oil companies that peddle them should be polluting the water, air, and land. Now that those resources are almost gone, should society stand by paying exorbitant prices, waging wars to secure more resources, and denying people much needed comforts? Instead of limiting pollution and saving fossil fuel reserves at the expense of ethics and quality of life, people can have it all by making biodiesel fuel.

Although it may sound complicated, the production of this alternative fuel source is actually quite simple. All it takes is a desire to make the change, a little dedication, and the right information. Unfortunately, as with every new and alternative technology, there is plenty of false information and companies wanting to exploit consumers.

Anyone interested in saving themselves money while saving the environment should seek online information that is fact based and backed by a reputable website. When conducting your own research, start with http://www.ultimate-biodiesel-guide.com. This site not only offers a comprehensive manual, but also a complete site with additional resources, newsletter subscription, and a lot of free bonuses. In addition, the brilliant minds behind the site are always available to answer any questions or concerns about biodiesel fuel. They can be reached directly using the site's interactive contact page. <bio>Excitement Limited http://www.ultimate-biodiesel-guide.com is a London-based company that seeks to empower consumers through knowledge and simple, well-written publications about making biodiesel. </bio>

The answer to all of America's energy and oil needs might be as simple as a grass, switch grass to be exact. Switch grass is an amazingly easy to produce grass that can be converted to ethanol. Ethanol holds lots of promise as an alternative to gasoline.

When you look at all the benefits of switch grass, it's hard to believe that it isn't being touted more heavily. Switch grass could not only replace some fossil fuels use, it could help alleviate the damage done by years of burning fossil fuels as well.

Switch grass might be thought of as a weed by some, which probably explains its lowly status. But switch grass was elevated to a new, lofty place when President Bush brought it up in his 2006 State of the Union address.

Switch grass has many worthwhile and useful qualities. Chief among them is how easy it is to grow.

Switch grass grows abundantly in the Great Plains and is native to large parts of North America. Picture yourself driving through the Midwest, when you gaze out the window you're looking at lots of switch grass.

cattle, horses, sheep and goats all love to munch of switch grass.

Unlike most plants, switch grass is not picky about soil and conditions. It's incredibly easy to grow even in clay or sand, flood or drought. A gardener's dream plant. Remember, it andquot;grows like a weed.andquot;

Switch grass could be a new bumper crop for American farmers, who are being financially squeezed from a million directions.

Not only that, but switch grass can be used to purify water. It's roots can take pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizer out of water before it reaches the main waterways. this trait alone makes it useful.

Now as if all that weren't enough, the humble switch grass plant can even help in our efforts to clean the air. Switch grass cleans the air because it absorbs carbon dioxide, that nasty green house gas.

Many places are already experimenting with switch grass as a source for energy, either as pellets for burning or converting it to ethanol.

Democratic Senator Joseph Lieberman has already brought up switch grass as a cure for international tensions over competition for fossil fuels. Noting our growing competition for fuel with China before the Counsel on Foreign Relations, Lieberman suggested lots of agricultural products like switch grass, corn and sugar can be used to create new sources of fuel to power our cars and keep our houses warm.

In a world of dependence on fossil fuels and rising gas prices, it is critical to find new sources of alternative energy. In this case, we may have to look no farther than America's andquot;amber waves of grain.andquot; <bio>Dave Larsen has worked for twenty-five plus years in the alternative energy business.
Biofuel is in one respect the oldest form of man-made fuel in the world; long before industry boomed and the industrial period began, biological organic matter was the cheif source material for fuels. It was only until the relatively more powerful use of fossil fuels became dominant that biofuel found its admirers dwindling; in the age of industry, it has suffered relatively low popularity, though that point stands for most alternatives to fossil fuels, which is the source material for over 80% of annual energy production across the world.

With the rising interest in climate change affecting governments, individuals and the world's media, though, fossil fuels are seemingly on the decline; whilst more than three quarters of energy production has conistently come from the source for a number of years, this has gone hand in hand with dangerous levels of carbon emissions, of which it is reported that fossil fuels contribute more than 20 billion tonnes anually. With experts suggesting that global natural resources can only induce half of that figure, and global warming increasingly becoming a world concern, investment into alternative energy has risen by over 140% in the two years.

Of these alternative energy types, biofuel is one of the most prominent, and it seems that man-made fuels have come full circle. Though production of the fuel is substantially lower than solar power and even hydroeletricity, it remains one of the most important examples of alternative energy.

And indeed, research into the field has reaped rewards, with new developments granting the industry a potentially greater fuel efficiency.

Experts have now suggested that the use of a bug that thrives on detritus will increase the speed at which the original biological matter is broken down and converted into fuel. It will originally be used in the production of ethanol, but it is hoped that the bug can increase efficiency of biofuels across the industry. Indeed it is beleived that the bug can also increase then range of material included in the conversion process; more hardy, it is beleived to be able to break down tougher plant and animal life that current conversion techniques cannot.

It will certainly strengthen the case for a return to biofuel as renewable energy types gain momentum, and it could perhaps do with the positive press after some controversial statistics have begun an increasingly polemical debate on the ethical standards of biofuels; the World Bank reported that the consumption of crops across the world for biofuels has resulted in a rise of 75% in world food prices.

The debate does not simply centre around economics. On their website, Friends of the Earth have questioned the actual environmental impact of biofuel production, claiming that they could actually produce more green house gases than the process reduces; it is generally argued that CO2 emissions from biofuels are offset by the consumption of carbon during the source supply's lifetime, but the orginsation claims that the combined energy cost of planting, production, conversion and transport negates the theory.

On a similar agenda as the World Bank, they take the rising food price to be an indication that biofuel production could directly affect food supply levels for some of the earth's most poverty stricken populations.<bio>Chris Woolfrey is the environmental expert for http://www.ecoswitch.com,specialising in research for the energy industry, including biofuels.</bio>

Global warming is the heating up of the earth's temperatures. This has been studied in great detail during recent times and scientists are trying to find ways to slow down or stop global warming.

The main issue with global warming is how off balance it will throw the world. With the temperatures steadily getting hotter and hotter it can start to melt the icecaps and let harmful UV rays from the sun in. These effects will cause massive damage to the earth and the way we live life.

Before you get scared of all this you should know there are solutions. The first solution comes in the form of fossil fuels. We use gasoline and diesel to power our cars, boats, planes, trains and most any moving vehicle we have. The problem comes when the fossil fuel is being burned and the exhaust hits the atmosphere effectively destroying it. This also applies to homes, businesses, and anything that requires electricity.

The best way to fight these negative effects is by using alternative fuel sources. By using these alternative fuels we are helping fight the effects of global warming while still proving the power we need.

If global warming isn't stopped it could lead to some disastrous problems we will face in the world. Imagine having to wear sun block just to get your mail or for a quick run to the grocery store.

Not all of the problems associated with global warming are caused by us. Volcanoes are also helping to cause this warming effect on the earth. However, we cannot prevent a volcano from erupting. What we need to do is take action against the little things that humans personally cause to create global warming. If everyone takes small steps it will help us all make a big leap in preventing global warming in the future. <bio>Learn more about The Greenhouse effect at <a href="http://greenhouseeffect.typepad.com/" >http://greenhouseeffect.typepad.com/ </bio>

Matching key rings and coin purses complete the set.

We often worry whenever we find a handbag of our dreams that the price tag will make it unreachable. This is not the case with Fossil handbags. Fossil handbags come at very reasonable prices. Furthermore, when a new season stock of Fossil handbags arrives, the previous Fossil handbag styles usually go on sale.

Fossil Handbags are Made with Other Accessories in Mind

When we grow so fond of our handbag that we use them more often than we originally intended, we start looking for matching accessories. Fossil knows this, so they also offer along with the Fossil handbags such items as schedule planners of the same material and design; lipstick, key, glasses and check holders, coin purses and money holders of various sizes.

When we add accessories that go well with our handbag, we complete the look and style we are after. Having a whole set manufactured by one company -- and by one like Fossil -- ensures that the coordination is impeccable and the items themselves are of excellent quality.

When it comes to shoes and bags, no modern woman ever wants to be out of step. Being in style in this area and having class without having to spend a fortune is part of our idea of looking great. That should make a Fossil handbag, with its reasonable price and uncompromised quality, an irresistible proposition. <bio>Find more Helpful [http://www.handbagsonsalenow.com/]handbags tips, advice (and Resources) Click Here: http://www.handbagsonsalenow.com

A Popular website that specializes in tips and resources to include Gucci Handbag, Kate Spade Handbag, and [http://handbagsonsalenow.com/marc-jacobs-handbag.html]Marc Jacobs Handbag </bio>

While many countries have started down the track of setting up resources and infrastructure to develop alternative energy such as bio fuels, wind and water as well as solar power there is still huge scope to increases the levels of energy created.

Mankind's technological progress and our developing societies as a result have come along way by harnessing energy for electricity and using fuel to power vehicles we have created the ability for huge industries. To date these industries have relied on nonalternative power sources such as fossil fuels.

These sources are extracted from the ground and need to be processed so we can harness the fuel and electricity. They are commonly referred to as coal, natural gas and hydrocarbon fuels. We rely on them heavy and the costs are pollution and usage of our natural resources, which are not infinite.

Perhaps one of the biggest stumbling blocks in developing alternative energy is the cost some third world countries and even private companies that seek to find independence from hydro carbon created energy don't have the necessary funds to be able to do so, this is where alternative energy finance comes into play.

By selling surplus energy created to other business you can offset costs and some large power generating companies will even buy excess energy off you. With the looming threat of global warning and possible peak oil production being reached There has never been a better time to seek financing for alternative energy projects, whether it be an ethanol energy project, wind farm turbines, hydro electric, coal bed methane, seam gas, green energy, sustainable energy, feothermal energy, hot rock energy, or clean coal.

Before applying for finance for any project you first need to have completed all research and have a development blueprint but there are many experts out there that can consult with you on how to achieve this. Governments around the world are desperately backing alternative energy projects, but banks won't give you a fair go - they see alternative energy projects as providing poor returns, or say the project teams lack experience!

The time for action is now before the natural resources mankind relies on for energy manufacture is totally depleted. Mankind must also stop the damage being done to our planet through the high pollution traditional energy manufacture causes.

If we wait till the fossil fuels are totally depleted before we develop sustainable alternative energy sources we may see a return to the horse and carriage days and having to resort for candles for light and indoor fires for heating.

We must all take responsibility now before its too late or we will see a huge reduction in our population and backward steps in our society functions as a whole as we are totally reliant on fossil fuels not only to power our own vehicles but to transport food and other goods globally.

Thankfully there are companies that are willing to help others by providing the finance needed for individuals or companies to develop highly needed alternative energy sources<bio>Jenna Scott the author specializes in helping those seeking to create alternative energy sources finance.
While we often think of energy efficiency as the way to save our environment, we also often consider it a costly endeavor. Did you realize, however, that your homes energy bill might be reduced by up to 30 percent through energy-efficiency that includes the purchase or energy efficient appliances and other products? In other words, you can save yourself money while you do your part to save the planet.

Every time you buy a new air conditioning unit, a new washer or dryer, a new refrigerator, microwave, or piece of office equipment, you are affecting the environment, either positively or negatively depending on your choices. Smart choices of products designed for energy efficiency help the air we all breathe and reduce your energy bill each month.

Here is some basic information about how energy efficiency works and why its helpful. A great deal of the energy you consume in your home is produced by local power plants that must burn fossil fuel to create the energy. These fossil fuels might be natural gas, coal or oil.

These fossil fuels also create pollution. This pollution harms not only the environment but ultimately the people, as it causes smog, acid rain and respiratory diseases. Fossil fuel pollution is also a strong factor in changing the climate of the globe.

While we hear a lot about the harmful gas emissions that emanate from vehicles, what we dont hear much about is the fact that your home probably produces twice as much of these emissions as the average automobile.

Opting for energy efficiency through your choice of products that are energy efficient is one of the best ways you can reduce your consumption of energy and thus your distribution of harmful emissions of greenhouse gas. Any household that buys equipment designed for energy efficiency puts a big dent in harmful emissions of carbon dioxide.

In fact, over the lifetime of one of these energy efficient appliances or other products you will have reduced pollution the equivalent of what would be saved by one fewer vehicle for seven years. The use of energy efficient household products reduces nitrogen oxides too, which contribute extensively to acid rain and smog.

The average U.S. household spends about 1500 each year on energy. Energy-efficiency can reduce this bill by 400-450 annually. If youre concerned about energy efficiency and wish to not only save the environment but save yourself some money it will help to know which appliances account for what portion of your energy use and bill.

The biggest, which probably comes as no surprise, is your heat and air conditioning. This is a whopping 45 percent of your energy bill. Your water heater uses up 11 percent of your energy, and your washer and dryer 10 percent. The lighting for your home is seven percent of your energy costs, while your refrigerator is six percent of your bill.

Your dishwasher, computer, monitor, TV, VCR, DVD player and similar equipment each use up about two percent of your total energy consumption. Stoves, microwaves and other smaller appliances generally account for the rest, though at less than two percent of the total each. <bio>James Copper works for http://www.newcareerskills.co.uk as an Energy Career Advisor. </bio>

When you make a decision to use a biodiesel blend in your vehicles and machinery that run on gasoline or regular diesel fuels such as Diesel No. 1 or 2, you are being proactive about the environment. You are being even more proactive if you use a cleaning agent such as Fuelboost to your blend.

First of all using biodiesel blends help reduce the unburned hydrocarbons that are often the result of using straight diesel. Smog is created form unburned hydrocarbons. This creates the brown gas you see called NOX. If you also add a fuel booster (like Fuel Boost) that is designed to decarbonizes engines you will drastically cut the amount of unburned particle matter that you discharge into the atmosphere.

Aside from the particulates and NOX, the use of biodiesel can help cut emissions of sulfur oxides by as much as 8%. The overall emissions of methane can be cut almost 3% all just by using biodiesel blends. These might seem like small amounts but it matters a lot in terms of the big picture or even if you just happen to be operating a fleet of large vehicles such as trucks or cruise ships. When it comes to making an initial gesture towards halting global warming, using an additive like Fuel Boost is definitely a start towards optimizing those fuels so that you get the most of them both in terms of performance and haulage.

If you are running a large operation that involves the operation of a lot of farm machinery you are reducing your carbon footprint by cutting your fuel with biodiesel and even more by adding a designer fuel boost blend.

When you add a biodiesel blend to your engine you are reducing your carbon footprint. In fact you are giving back more energy to the environment. Lifecycle studies about the use of biodiesel show that for every unit of fossil energy it takes to manufacture fossil fuel, 3.2 units of energy are gained. This kind of lifecycle study would take into account the planting and harvesting of the soy or canola as well as its transportation, production and distribution to the end user.

The overall he overall lifecycle production of wastewater from biodiesel is 79.0% lower than overall production of wastewater from diesel. To put it another way, petroleum diesel generates roughly five times as much wastewater flow than biodiesel. This means that you will be polluting the ground and oceans less if you use biodiesel. To keep these diesel machines running smoothly and reliably so that you don't have to rely on the "wrong " kinds of polluting fuels in various weather conditions you should also use Fuel Boost.

Scientific research confirms that biodiesel exhaust is less harmful to humans then petroleum-based fuel because it contains NO aromatic compounds like sculpture. The purer the biodiesel the less likely it is to create the cancer causing compounds polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and nitrated PAH compounds. PAH and nPAH compounds cause cancer. The best way to keep your vegetable based fuels running clean is to use something like Fuel Boost which helps reduce sulfur emissions. <bio>Ron Petracek was born in Southern Idaho and working on Farm Diesel Equipment Petracek first hand witnessed the deterio of fuel.
For decades, the terms nuclear power have sent feelings of fear in those hearing them. We have all been influenced by the movies and reports on the devastating impact that nuclear power can have on our Nation. However, nuclear power can also be a positive thing for our Nation, offering as an alternate source of emission free energy. Used properly, nuclear reactions can be used to generate energy in the forms of heat and electricity.

Few people realize that many countries, including the United States are already using nuclear power as a source of energy. The United States uses nuclear power to supply up to 20% of the overall usage. Other countries use it a lot more. For example, France produces up to 80% of its energy from nuclear power.

Not only is nuclear power able to produce emissions free energy, research indicates that using it can help reverse the greenhouse effects. That is one of the main reason environmentalists are pushing so hard for nuclear power to replace the use of fossil fuels. The issue has been pushed to the back burner for decades. However, the government and the people have found a renewed interest in nuclear power as an energy source due to the continuous rise in the price of oil. The average citizen is frustrated and worried about the high price of gas, with no relief in sight.

Some developers worry about the risk of building nuclear power plants. Special designs are being considered to help prevent accidents from occurring. Another concern is the possibility of radioactive contamination from such nuclear power plants. It seems everyone wants to use the energy, yet no one wants a plant to be built in their area. Further worries involve nuclear power plants being used in terrorist's attacks.

The prospect of using nuclear power as an emissions free energy source is very good. With the right technology, it may one day replace fossil fuels as our main source of energy. Doing so would result in the United States being less dependent on other countries that supply us with vast amounts of oil. Until the actual risk can be assessed, this idea will continue to be in the works with the government, researchers, and designers. <bio>Visit Nuclear Power Now for more information on Nuclear power, the world's largest source of emission-free energy: http://www.nuclearnow.org </bio>

The use of ethanol as an alternative fuel is becoming increasingly popular by ever conscious consumers wishing to do their little bit for the planet. It may even be a better alternative to bio fuel, it seems that it is a lot more pleasant to make at any rate.

What is Ethanol?

Ethanol is a grain alcohol, or plant mass formula derived from the natural sugars found in bio mass, or vegetation such as corn, wheat, barley, potatoes and sugar cane. This is then processed to make a renewable form of fuel or fuel additive, which is both cost effective and good for the planet. Many cars are able to run on Ethanol and gasoline mixtures. Although at the moment, the mixtures are only a ratio of 10% Ethanol, to 90% fossil fuel.

Benefits of Ethanol

There are many benefits of using an alternative fuel such as Ethanol, for starters it is a renewable resource, fossil fuels used to make gasoline is not renewable, so one day they will run out, it is because of this that people, have become more aware of alternative fuels and additives. Another good reason for using an alternative fuel such as Ethanol is the reduction of pollution, we only have one planet and if we keep polluting it we may very well find ourselves with nowhere to live. Any steps that we can make toward reducing pollution is a positive. Another good reason to consider a fuel alternative such as Ethanol is that it is far more cheaper to use and make, the main cost involved in making Ethanol is in the processing method.

How is Ethanol Produced?

The process used consists of 8 stages, corn is the main product used in this method, Milling the corn, to make it into a fine powder, or meal Liquification, which is mixing the meal with water and Alpha-amylase, then heating it at temperatures of 120-150 deg Celcius, the heat reduces bacteria. Saccharification, is the process of cooling the mash, and adding glucoamylase, this converts the starch to dextrose, Fermentation, is where the yeast is added to ferment the sugars to convert it to Ethanol. This process consists of the mash going through several different tanks, and takes about 48 hours.

Please note that this procedure is risky and I do not recommend making biodiesel without further research of the process, these are just general guidelines of the making process, if you wish to actually make your own bio diesel please consult expert companies or professionals.

Distillation, the mash now contains about 10% alcohol and 90% non fermentable solids, the solids are now separated from the alcohol, to reach about a 96% strength of alcohol.

Dehydration, is where the last of the water is removed to make the alcohol about 200 proof.

Denaturing, is used then to make the alcohol unfit for human consumption, this is done by adding a small amount of gasoline, like 2-5%.

There are 2 co products derived from this process as well. The first is the non fermentable product, this is used as a livestock feed, the second is the carbon dioxide which is collected from the process and sold to other industries.

There are many reasons to use Ethanol as either an additive or an alternative fuel; one of the main reasons is the reduction of pollution. Regular fossil based fuels are not only damaging to the environment they are a non-renewable resources; once they are gone they can never be replaced, or regenerated. <bio>Simon Oldmann is an avid writer and a green activist, he has been writing about Ethanol use since the growing popularity of Ethanol these last years, Simon writes for http://ethanol.zupatips.com/ at http://ZupaTips.com </bio>

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Sequestration have been in the news recently, and many people believe that this technology is on the verge of resolving the greenhouse gas problem.

The principle is simple: burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil produces carbon dioxide (CO2), which right now is released into the air. This is where most man-made greenhouse gases come from. What if instead of releasing it into the air, we pumped the carbon dioxide back into the ground? Then we could keep on burning fossil fuels and not worry about greenhouse gases.

Several large-scale demonstration projects have already pumped CO2 into underground formations and more are planned. The three big projects are Sleipner, off the coast of Norway, one near the town of Weyburn, Saskatchewan in Canada, and one at the In-Salah gas wells in Algeria. Although they are the biggest projects in the world, all of them put together do not add up to the capacity required for one typical coal-fired power plant. And none of them uses CO2 that comes from burning fossil fuels, in fact they burn extra fossil fuels in order to capture and store CO2. Two of them take CO2 that occurs naturally in gas fields, bring it to the surface, purify it and put it back underground.

Applying CCS to power plants is more difficult because typically less than 10% of what comes out a chimney is CO2 and it is at low pressure and mixed in with impurities. Before it can be pumped underground, it has to be purified and compressed, and that takes a great deal of energy and of money. It costs over $100 a ton, according to the experts, about half of which is extra energy costs. If you want to clean the emissions from that extra energy, it costs even more. Some high-profile projects have been cancelled recently because of the cost, including the SaskPower 300-megawatt, clean-coal plant near Estevan whose cost went from $1.5 billion to $3.8 billion in a few years, and FutureGen, a 275-megawatt integrated sequestration and hydrogen production plant in Mattoon, Illinois, which would have cost $1.5 billion more to build than its total revenues.

A panel of experts on U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Carbon Sequestration Program, formed by the National Research Council, recently concluded that carbon sequestration could not be implemented unless there were a significant carbon tax, and examined carbon taxes of $100 or $300 a ton. Even then the benefits are not very large. The panel members could find no environmental benefit and no security benefit to DOE sequestration research. To make sequestration a viable alternative you need a high tax on emissions. But those taxes make other low-emission energy even more attractive than fossil fuels. Whatever the price of energy, other sources of energy always give a better return on investment.

One risk factor to investment is public acceptance. The EPA announced in October 2007 that it intends to develop regulations to govern sequestration under the Safe Drinking Water Act, but will people want to have a CO2 capture or sequestration site near where they live? In low concentrations CO2 is safe, but in high concentrations it is deadly. Carbon dioxide sometimes naturally seeps out of the ground, for instance near some volcanoes, and when it does it kills all plant and animal life in its path. Because it's heavier than air it stays close to the ground and suffocates them. Even though experiments show that leakage and seepage should be relatively rare, will the public accept the risk? For instance, the West Pearl Queen experiment in New Mexico went wrong and leaked.

Is the risk necessary because people are never going to consume less energy willingly? The latest figures show that in the US, Canada, Japan, and much of Europe, energy consumption stopped growing and started declining a couple of years ago. The debate on carbon sequestration gives us two options to choose from: either we consume more energy and invest in sequestration technology, literally pouring our money into a hole in the ground, or we decide to use less energy for equivalent economic results. The first gives us the costs and environmental impacts of increasing the world's energy production so that we bury the CO2. The second requires more investment, but means we reduce our energy use, need fewer coal mines and oil wells, and makes us more competitive on the world market when the price of energy goes up. <bio>Martin Laplante, PhD, is Vice_President of RES Policy Research.
Perhaps the most timeless of fashion accessories =96 pun intended =96 is the wristwatch. Aside from their obvious role as a timepiece that has kept us on schedule throughout the decades, the watch plays an equal role when it makes a statement of style and success. The right watch can convey a message about you just as much as your clothes, and while everyone knows the kind of message sent by a Rolex or Cartier watch, it is no secret that their exorbitant price tag is part of that equation. However, with a Fossil watch you can embrace a sense of style without spending hundreds or even thousands, and you can even do it with your own personal flair.

Started in 1984, the Fossil watch company has staked their place on the wristwatch landscape by providing a selection of watches that can appeal to a wide range of tastes and nearly any budget. Offering casual and dress watches that typically cost between $50 and $150 dollars, a Fossil watch is not a cheap watch; it is an affordable, high quality timepiece.

Boasting a selection of watches that rivals any company, with looks to match, Fossil watches could get by on their looks, quality, and price alone. However, Fossil has taken watches to a new, innovative, and original level by offering several lines of watches that are a product of outside-the-box thinking.

The Fossil watch website is a great place to begin looking for that special watch that fits your wrist and personality. At the Watch Bar, you can build your own watch be selecting from a wide variety of styles, sizes, and wristbands. You can literally mix and match, adding what you like until you get exactly what you what. Individual components are priced separately, so you can not only build a style you like, but you can do it for a price that is equally agreeable.

Fossil's personalized options do not begin or end with the Watch Bar, or your ability to create a watch that suits your tastes. For the sports fan there are watches sporting the logos of your favorite NCAA and NFL teams. Fossil also has a large line of collectible watches featuring some of the most popular characters in pop culture. From Batman to Elvis, Snoopy to Star Wars; Fossil has a wide range of collectible watches for the fan of nearly anything.

For those with tastes that lean toward contemporary, designer looks, there is a Fossil watch for them too. Fossil has teamed with people like Frank Gehry, Philippe Starck, Michael Kors, and Marc Jacobs, to make designer watches at affordable price points. Even the technophile can find a Fossil that will scratch the technological itch. The Fossil wrist PDA and its LCD touch-screen allow you to access your calendar, personal planner, and much more.

Affordable quality, stylish looks, and a price that anyone can afford; it is no wonder that there is a Fossil watch for nearly any budget, taste, or occasion. <bio>For more information on watches try visiting http://www.Watches4All.com, a website that specializes in providing watch related tips, advice and resources to include information on the fossil watch. </bio>

When we talk about renewable energy we are referring to power that delivers energy from resources that will not be depleted because of our use of them. Renewable energy is an alternative to non-renewable fossil fuel energy for reasons other than the factor of non-depletion.

One basic benefit of renewable energy, and the reason environmentalists all over the globe are advocate its use, is that it does give off greenhouse gases and other harmful pollutants as do the by-products of burning fossil fuel for energy. Renewable energy such as solar power, water power and wind power, while the widespread discussion of which is new, are anything but new.

In both newly developing and highly developed countries wind, sun and water have long been used as power sources, though not to the extent of providing the primary energy source for large metropolitan communities.

The mass production of such renewable energy is become commonplace in recent years as more and more people come to realize how climate is changing due to the pollution of fossil fuel gases, due to the exhaustion of the availability of these fossil fuels and the political and social concerns of energy sources such as nuclear power.

Many countries and non-profit environmentally-conscious organizations are encouraging the use of renewable energy sources by passing legislation on tax incentives for their use and subsidies to offset the added expense of converting from fossil fuel to renewable energy.

The flow of renewable energy involves phenomena that occur naturally in our world. Tides, sunlight, wind and heat derived by geothermal occurrences all provide renewable energy. Each of these energy sources is unique both in where we can use them and how.

Most technology that converts renewable energy into power sources we can use are powered at least in part by the Sun if not directly at least indirectly. The earths atmospheric system stays in such equilibrium that the heat that it gives off radiates into space to an amount equal to the radiation that comes to earth from the sun.

The result of this energy level within the atmosphere is roughly translated to the climate of the earth. The water of the earth, also referred to its hydrosphere, absorbs a lot of the radiation that comes to us from the sun.

Most of the radiation gets absorbed at the lower latitudes of the earth that exist around the equator. This energy gets dissipated all around the globe, however, in the form of ocean and wind currents.

The motion of the ocean waves might have a role in transference of mechanical energy between the ocean and the earths atmosphere by way of wind stress. Solar energy also provides the means by which precipitations is distributed and then tapped by hydroelectric energy projects as well as plant growth that then creates biofuels. <bio>James Copper writes for http://www.propertycareerskills.co.uk who offer energy assessor training courses for people who wish to change career. </bio>

Global warming is an issue that is still hotly debated by scientists. Most do agree that there is general evidence supporting the idea that global warming is occurring. The thing they are unable to agree on is if the global warming is being caused by our actions, or if it is a natural part of the earth's evolution.

The Evidence

It is possible to measure some parts of the environment to identify current trends. For example, the levels of methane and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are higher now than they have ever been in the past 650 years. The glaciers are melting at an increasing rate, and coral reefs are being destroyed due to increasing temperatures.

The Greenhouse Gases

Among the facts about global warming is the cause of the warming. Greenhouse gases cover the atmosphere and trap the sun's heat. Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide are emissions that cause greenhouse gases. Burning fossil fuels is a fact about global warming that is the cause of most carbon dioxide emissions. We burn fossil fuels when we drive our cars and generate electricity in power plants. Reducing these emissions is the most important reason everyone needs to know the facts about global warming.

Public Education

It is important that people learn about the effects of global warming and hear both sides of the argument =96 it may be that global warming cannot be prevented, but if everyone learns about global warming and researches environmental issues for themselves, they will be able to make more educated choices, and understand other conservation issues at the same time. Global warming is not the only thing we need to be concerned about =96 many resources are being rapidly depleted, and energy conservation will benefit the environment in many ways.

Small Changes Do Help

We can all help reduced the pollutants released everyday by changing our transportation choices, changing our light bulbs, use renewable energy sources and conserving paper products.

Automobiles cause twenty percent of United States carbon dioxide emissions. The United States is the world's larges consumer of oil. We could reduce our dependence on oil by carpooling, using public transportation, building bike paths and just driving less.

Using renewable energy sources whenever possible will reduce the need for fossil fuel usage. It may not be possible to stick solar panels to the roof of your house, but, if you can switch to an energy provider that uses wind power, and take 'green' public transport if it is offered in your area, then you will be doing your bit for the environment.

Another change that could help in a big way is to consider environmental issues during election time =96 voting for a government that supports conservation and renewable engergy sources would be a big step forward. <bio>Become a smarter traveler and do your part to save the earth.
Fossil information sites are abundant on the web. But not all sites are created equal. Some sites are scholarly and may be over-the-head of the first-time or casual fossil collector. At the other end of the spectrum are sites that are a collection of links with no real information. Their sole purpose is making money from their google ads. There are plenty of sites in between that offer every form of fossil information you can imagine and for every audience.

Focused Sites The scholarly sites often delve deeply into one fossil information topic. Dr. Sam Gon III's site- http://www.trilobites.info/ shares just about anything you would want to learn about trilobites. His site is easy to navigate because it links logical topics, but also because it has a long list of the topics covered on the home page. Elasmo- http://www.elasmo.com/ covers sharks: fossil sharks, modern sharks, classification and disputed classification. This site is usable by the novice, but has enough depth to bring you back over and over again.

General Sites Sites like UCMP- http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/ approach the fossil information topic from a broad perspective. They have a huge amount of information on fossils. They include fossil-related topics like geologic time and classification (phylogeny) of both fossil and modern species. Fossils-facts-and-finds'- http://www.fossils-facts-and-finds.com/ target audience is teachers and pre-college students. The topics covered relate to both fossils and geologic time, but additionally include tips and lesson plans for sharing the information with students, and there are projects that students can do on their own.

Especially For Kids Since fossil information is often needed by young students, there are sites feared toward short, quality information about specific species. Enchanted Learning- <a href="http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html" >http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html gives a little information about LOTS of topics...not just fossils and dinosaurs. Their approach gives good starter information.

No Help Here Watch out for "links-only" sites. These sites contain long lists of linked sites that MAY contain pertinent fossil information, but you can waste huge amounts of time following these links and never really find what you are looking for. (Of course, that's what these sites WANT you to do, because for every click, they make money!)

Fossil Directories Good niche directory sites, on the other hand, can be of great help. Bob's Rock Shop- http://www.rockhounds.com/ is a good directory of fossil information sites because Bob has looked at the sites and puts a short note about the information you can find at each linked site.

Read the descriptions! With a little scrutiny, you'll save yourself time, avoid the "no information" link sites, and get on to the business of getting REAL fossil information! <bio>For more fossil information visit http://www.fossils-facts-and-finds.com. If you need fossils for classrooms, scouting activities, geology activities, or homeschooling http://www.fossilicious.com offers free shipping, quantity discounts, and a wide selection to fit your needs. </bio>

The world's reliance on oil is staggering, and it seems that new predictions for when we will run out of petroleum are popping up every day. World governments are moving to start drilling in new places, in a desperate attempt to secure more black gold. Oil is used for a variety of products, including fuel, which is the number one commodity that people associate oil with.

If we are to survive as a species, it is integral that we embrace the number of alternative fuels that are sitting before us. Even if one alone is not enough to wean us off oil, it is surely possible that together, we can replace oil once and for all, at least in terms of fuel.

There are innumerable benefits to embracing alternative fuels, and very few negatives. In fact, the only arguably bad thing about alternative fuels is that they ultimately decrease the profits of oil companies, although most people do not care about that. Petroleum based fuels are known to release greenhouse gases and harmful pollutants in to the air. Over time, greenhouse gases have been shown to accelerate global warming, and the dirtier the air is, the unhealthier we are. By taking advantage of alternative fuels, we can reverse these downward trends, stop global warming, and make air completely safe to breathe again.

Proponents of oil say that our economy would be extremely damaged by our disposal of traditional fossil fuels. It seems, however, that the onset of alternative fuels will actually be beneficial to our economy. Companies that research and provide alternative energy are popping up at an increasing rate, creating jobs and stimulating the economy. If alternative fuels were supported more heavily, additional companies could enter the market and continue to innovate.

Solar power is the process of converting the sun's rays in to energy. The vast majority of sunlight which strikes the Earth is left unabsorbed, so we might as well try to take as much as we can get. Solar energy is produced through the application of solar cells, and several solar cells put together form solar panels. The solar cells convert sunlight in to direct current energy through the photoelectric effect. When light hits the surface of the cell, electrons are released, and they are harnessed in to usable electricity. Solar engineers are currently trying to develop more efficient and effective solar cells, so that we may one day be able to rely on them for the majority of our appliances.

Wind energy uses the power of the wind to generate electricity. Wind is converted in to electricity through the utilization of wind turbines, which have taken on a thin, three bladed shape in modern times. Currently, wind power supplies one percent of the world's electricity needs, although with coming advancements in wind technology and the expansion of the industry, that number could rise substantially in the next few years.

Hydroelectric power is the most used form of alternative energy, supplying nineteen percent of the world's electricity. It is generated by the potential energy of falling water, which powers a water turbine and generator. Large dams have been constructed solely for the purpose of creating this kind of energy, and due to the continuous flow of water, hydroelectricity has proven to be quite effective. Like other renewable energy sources, there remains a lot of untapped potential in this field.<bio>Stop right now, don't pay for your electricity any longer!
