1.Add ! White with your present color scheme will both cool and brighten, adding the freshness that only white can! If your tend toward the warm side, such as yellows, browns, or reds...then choose creamier white such as ecru or ivory. If you have cooler colors in your room, such as greens and blues, go with the brighter, cleaner whites.

2.Try painting your focal wall, (that is, the one most seen) in a sunnier, brighter, or lighter shade of your current wall color. It will add lightness to the room without drastically changing the whole scheme. Don't worry, you can always go back to that rich red in the fall, but how about a little petal pink, or sky blue? Remember, its only paint, its cheap!

3.Add a floral print fabric to your room. Using the already in your room, visit your and pick out a you love with at least one of those primary colors in it. (The more, the better, but don't feel you must have every color in the room also in the fabric!) Use that floral fabric to make table scarves, placemats, pillow covers, and simple seat cushion covers. Pair it with a solid already in the room, and you have a custom coordinated look, for just a few dollars and some simple straight sewing!

4.Pick up some pretty from the dollar shop, and display it where the sun will light it up! You could even use clear glassware, and fill it with colored water to coordinate with the room. Use your glassware as vases, pencil holders, or candy dishes, but make sure it is seen! Glass sparkles and adds a bit of sunshine to a room.

5.Take down your curtains, and just leave your mini blinds underneath. Don't leave it bare, though, we don't want boring! Swag some dried or silk flowers over the top of the blinds, or use some muslin to twist around a curtain rod for an informal but airy valance. (No sew!)

6.Keep your windows sparkling clean. Dirty windows cut down on a surprising amount of light, and make a room look dull. As a bonus, clean windows mean more sparkling glass, and that makes room feel larger and brighter!

7.Pot up some pansies from the garden center and use them indoors as houseplants. They are cheap, easy, and add flowers to a room without the cost of replacing floral arrangements every week! You can even coordinate the flower color to the color scheme of the room. Don't match the colors, just pick something complementary.

8.Clear most of the artwork and accessories out of your room, and just keep a few larger, simpler pieces. It declutters the room, and helps to put the focus on the freshness of a room. Consider picking up a white lattice from the garden center, and hang it on the wall as a focal point. Place a potted plant in front of it, or hang small framed garden catalog prints from it. Let it be a reminder of the outdoors all season long!

9.Use a stencil or a stamp to add floral and nature motifs to your room for very little money. Stencil vines around windows and doors, hand paint seasonal sayings over doorways with a paint pen, or stamp a floral bouquet on the front of cupboard doors. You can always paint over those small areas with touch up paint in the fall. (Or you might love them so much, they stay year round!)

10.Finally, don't forget your entry area when you are creating that spring glow all around your home. Remember, your entries are a visitors first impression of your home! There are tips and specialized treatment you can use for certain flowers so they will last longer and to show them to their best advantage in your .



Gerberas are large flat daisy like flowers that include shades of orange, pink, red, yellow and white.

There is also a mini gerbera which is not so common that is a much smaller variety.

Gerberas are very versatile and they can be used in many different styles of arrangements. Because of their large s and bright colours they are perfect for modern floral designs.

Give gerberas a long drink before arranging them.

If the are soft, snip off the ends of the stems and place them in a bucket half filled with water.

A piece of can be placed across the top of the container and the flower stems inserted in the holes with the heads resting flat against the top of the chicken wire. This will help support the flower heads.

You can also use a piece of cardboard with holes made in it instead of the chicken wire. As the stems take up water, they will stiffen.

Leave the gerberas standing in the water for at least 4 hours before arranging them.

Wiring Gerbera Stems:

After a few days, the heads of gerberas can sometimes go limp.

Wiring the stems before you arrange them will help the flower heads stand upright in an arrangement.

To do this, insert the end of a long 22 gauge wire x 45cm (18")vertically up into the base of the flower head for about 2.5cm (1") and wind the wire three or four times spirally down and around the stem.

Cut off the excess wire level with the end of the stem.

Liliums

Liliums grow on long graceful stems and have open trumpet shaped flowers and long pointed buds and come in many different varieties.

They look wonderful used on their own in flower arrangements. A tall classical container filled with liliums always looks elegant.

Liliums also look great combined with other flowers in traditional and modern style arrangements.

White liliums also look spectacular used in flowing cascade bridal designs.

Tiger lilies in orange with brown spots are ideal for exotic type arrangements.

Liliums have long stamens with anthers at the tips which are covered with pollen. If the pollen comes into contact with anything, including clothing or a tablecloth, it will stain it with a brownish yellow stain. It is recommended you snip the tips of the end of the stamens before arranging them.

For this reason, many florists remove the tips as soon as liliums come into their shop.

If pollen does accidentally come in contact with fabric, brush the pollen away with a soft brush or tissue and then place in the sun for a few hours. Another method is to remove the pollen with clear sticky tape.

Violets

These delightful small purple flowers are sold in a bunch surrounded with their attractive heart shaped leaves. Violets mainly drink through their faces. Snip off the ends of the stems and then immerse the heads under water for a few seconds and then place them in a small container of water.

Spray the violets each day with water. A few violets look pretty used in dainty posies and circlets for bridal designs.

These ornaments can be made from you already have on hand. They are called andquot;country ornamentsandquot; because of their homemade, handspun look. They look best when made from leftover quilting scraps. I decided to recycle some fabric from my boys' crib sheet that was ripped and ready to be thrown away. I thought it would make a great keepsake for family members to use the fabric from the sheet to make the Christmas ornaments, as well as a great way to recycle the fabric.

Here are the supplies you will need:

3andquot; s Scrap fabric Scissors Small paintbrush

You will only need four or five strips of fabric to cover each ball. Cut a strip of fabric approximately 1 1/2 inches wide and long enough to wrap completely around the styrofoam ball. Cut five of these strips. Cut one extra strip a little bit narrower to use for the .

Spread out a piece of newspaper to work on and use the paint brush to glue on the back of a strip of fabric. Make sure to liberally cover the fabric so that it will completely adhere to the styrofoam.

Wrap the strip of fabric around the styrofoam ball and hold it there for a couple of seconds until the glue begins to dry. Glue on the other strips the same way until the ball is covered. When gluing the last strip on, thread the piece you are going to use for the hanger under the strip on one end before you press that last piece down (see photo). Tie the ends of the hanger together.

Press down all the strips of fabric to smooth out any gaps in the fabric. Use the paintbrush to add glue to any spots you missed.
