Merck developed this drug in 1992 for the treatment of an enlarged prostate gland. As with Minoxidil, some patients taking Finasteride grew hair on their head. Soon afterwards, it was released as a prescription medication for hair loss treatment.

The main cause of hair loss is DHT (dihydrotestosterone). Finasteride works by stopping the conversion of testosterone to DHT, reducing DHT levels by up to 75%.

The well-known Finasteride product is Propecia. In a study, over 80% of the balding individuals who used it experienced rejuvenated growth, and about 5% commented that their improvement was dramatic.

As well as increasing the number of hairs, Propecia increases the shaft diameter of existing hairs. Most of the improvement, taking Finasteride, will come in the first year of use. Since the main purpose of this drug is to prevent further hair loss, I usually suggest it as a first-line treatment for younger patients, for whom maintaining the hair they have is of prime importance.

The studies mentioned above did show that there are some limited side effects. A very small number (less than 2%) showed erectile dysfunction and decreased libido, although the same complaints were found in about 1% of patients taking placebos. These effects are completely reversible if the drug is discontinued, and over half of patients who continued the drug with these side effects saw them disappear.

Finasteride has been around for over 14 years, and has not shown any long-term side effects.

Women should not use Finasteride. The drug acts on testosterone and will not have any effect on women, even in women with high testosterone levels. It has also been shown to cause defects in the sexual organs of male infants, so it is advised that pregnant females not take, or even handle, this drug. If the male is taking Finasteride, Merck feels confident that the trace amounts found in the semen do not put the fetus at risk. I sometimes hear this concern from patients, and suggest they use condoms during the pregnancy to completely eliminate the risk of Finasteride entering the woman's bloodstream. <bio>Dr. Jones is a hair transplant surgeon west of Toronto, Canada.
There are those who claim they can reverse balding with natural hair loss remedies, and there are prescription medications designed to act as hair loss remedies. There are markets for both natural and prescription hair loss remedies, and the proponents of either have reasons for their enthusiasm.

Rogiane and Propecia

Rogaine and other well-known hair loss remedies contain minoxidil, which is the only FDA-approved over-the-counter treatment for baldness. Other than minoxidil, only finasteride, marketed as Propecia, is approved as a treatment for hair loss, and it was not originally developed for that purpose.

Finasteride was originally developed as a treatment for prostate problems; because it inhibits the production of dihydrotestosterone, it may also prove useful in preventing hair loss. Unlike Rogaine, which is applied directly to the scalp, Propecia must be taken orally in pill for, and has been proven to cause birth defects so is not appropriate as one of the hair loss remedies for women.

The choice of hair loss remedies is largely dependent on the underlying cause of baldness. Genetically transmitted male pattern baldness, in spite of it name, affects both males and females, and can range from a small thinning of hair at the top of the scalp to the complete loss of all bodily hair. Estimates are that male pattern baldness affects almost two in five men, so hair loss remedies will continue to be in demand for a very long time.

The hormone dihydrotestosterone is thought to be the major underlying factor in male pattern baldness; minoxidil and finasteride both decrease the amount of dihydrotestoterone produced from the body's testosterone. Because of their inhibiting effects, including minoxidil and finasteride in hair loss remedies seems like a logical step, but Rogaine has not proven effective in all users. Some have seen a complete return of their lost hair; others have seen light new growth, and others have not had any regrowth at all.

Other Causes Of Hair Loss

Hair loss can be the result of things other than hormonal imbalances; scalp infections, allergic reactions, and hair treatments which use harsh chemicals or require the hair to be pulled tight enough to interfere with the scalp's circulation are also suspect.

In those cases, the hair loss will probably be short-term, and the hair will begin to grow back as soon as the conditions causing it are removed. If you have hair loss and think a past disease, allergy, or hair treatment might be responsible, talk to a physician before exploring any hair loss remedies on your own.

To add some to the list are scalp contagions, hypersensitive reactions, use of coarse chemicals for the purpose of hair treatment and treatment which affects the circulation of the scalp. These causes will result in a short period hair loss. These causes can be treated easily and hair growth starts again as soon as the causation ends. If you are feeling that your hair loss problem is one of these causes, then before choosing the remedy you need to confer with a medico. It=E2=80=99s better as some of the drugs you are choosing may not be solving your root problem and a medico can really help you in this respect. <bio>You can also find more info on http://www.hairlosstreatmentshelp.com on male hair loss and http://www.hairlosstreatmentshelp.com/Hair_Loss_Treatment_Shampoo on hair loss shampoo. http://Hairlosstreatmentshelp.com is a comprehensive resource to know about Hair loss Treatment. </bio>

For those who have lost their hair and those who are going through the dreaded experience of going bald, the unfortunate news is that baldness cannot be cured. Yes, you can no longer regain what you have lost from your medical treatment (ex. Chemotherapy and psychosis medications) or your pattern-baldness condition known as alopecia. Whether your baldness is temporary or permanent, there is no known cure for it. But, you need not to fret for though you cannot regain what you have lost, you can easily replace it. Below are some techniques to restore your crowning glory.

Drugs

Drugs used for hair replacement offer the chance to re-grow hair directly from your scalp without surgical procedures. There are many medications that prop up hair growth. Some of the most popular ones are Minoxidil, Finasteride, Corticosteroids, and Anthralin. However, it should be noted that the more widespread the hair loss is, the less effective the medication becomes.

• Minoxidil also known as "Rogaine" is the most popular hair treatment drug available in the market. It is a non-prescription drug used to treat androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata. Minoxidil usually comes in the form of a shampoo, cream, or foam. In between two to five percent solutions, Minoxidil should be applied once or twice everyday, directly on the scalp. Strands of hair resulting from the use of Minoxidil are often thinner than regular hair strands. It usually takes two to three months before the medication shows visible results.

• Finasteride which is commonly known as Propecia is a prescription drug recommended for male patients who are diagnosed with male-pattern baldness. It comes in the form of pills which should be taken on a daily basis. Unlike Minoxidil however, doctors prescribe the use of Finasteride at the earliest detection of male pattern baldness. This is because Finasteride rarely promotes new hair growth. Instead, it slows down the process of hair loss.

• Corticosteroids are usually in the form of injected drugs that show immediate hair growth in two to four weeks. The injectable treatment should be administered twice a month by professional experts. Corticosteroids may also come in the form of pills, tablets, creams, foam, and ointments. However, such forms are less effective than the injectable corticosteroids.

• Anthralin are available in the forms of ointment, cream, or liquid foams that should be applied directly to the scalp on a daily basis. Usually, its effects can be observed twelve weeks after the first application.

Surgery

Aside from drugs, lost hair can be replaced through surgical procedures such as hair transplantation. The usual process involves hair grafting. The cosmetic surgeon or the dermatologist takes grafts of hair from the scalp of the patient, usually at the bottom back or side portions of the regular hair. He then implants the hair plugs in the bald sections of the patient's head. The hair transplantation process usually takes several sessions. Hair transplantation is recommended only to patients who are entirely unresponsive to non surgical options for hair re-growth. This is because such surgical procedures are far more expensive than the non surgical ones. Surgical procedures are also far more painful than taking hair re-growth drugs. Also, hair transplantation poses risks of scalp scarring and infection.<bio>The author of this article is Benedict Yossarian. For wigs advice Benedict recommends Wig Trendz and for hair replacement Benedict recommeneds LondonHairClinic.co.uk</bio>

Hair loss is a common problem for a number of men as well as women. Locating a successful hair loss prevention remedy is a difficult search. If you are dealing with hair loss, or are trying to proactively prevent it, there are several things that to consider. By understanding different resources available to combat hair loss, you can maintain thicker and healthier hair.

One of the initial products to consider for hair thinning or hair loss is available medication. While medications will not completely prevent hair loss, they may slow down the effects and allow you to retain some of your hair. Monoxidil and finasteride are two medications that are most commonly prescribed. Minoxidil, or Rogaine, is most effective in topical cream formula which is applied to the head twice daily. It will lead to a reaction from the hair follicles that encourages hair to grow. Finasteride workw by preventing enzymes in the hair to interact with the hormone testosterone. This prevents the production of a chemical that affects the hair follicle.

Another consideration in the hair loss prevention battle is your diet. If your hair loss is not genetic, you can take vitamins and supplements, and eat certain types of food that will help to combat hair loss. Your hair then stays healthier. Talk to your health care provider or holistic medicine practitioner for suggestions of treatments for hair loss. There are many creams, oils, and herbal remedies available that also help to prevent hair loss.

If you are experiencing hair loss, it is worthwhile to do a little research into the causes. The cause for your particular hair loss will directly impact what you should use and what will be most effective in your situation. For example, if the hair loss is stress-related, you may want to try a different type of treatment than if it is related to genetics. No matter what the cause, you will find a variety of recommendations available to you. If you are experiencing sudden hair loss that is coming out in clumps, you will want to consult your physician. This may be as a result of disease and should be treated immediately to prevent complications. With disease-related hair loss, you may expect it to grow back once the disease has been treated.

If you are currently losing your hair or are interested in trying to prevent future hair loss, there are a lot of options to consider in finding the solution to your situation. By treating your hair loss, you will be able maintain healthy-looking hair as well as potentially helping retain a full head of hair. You may then find that you feel better and are more comfortable with your looks. Knowing where to look for help and what the various products can do for you is the first step in a battle in which you can have success. <bio>Robert Miller contributes to several popular web sites, such as http://bazox.com and http://tybul.com </bio>

If you are experiencing hair loss, you may have already paid a visit to your local pharmacy in search of a remedy. While there you might have found yourself in an aisle with shelf after shelf of creams, ointments, shampoos, sprays, fungicides, and vitamin or herbal supplements all claming that they could stop your hair from thinning further. Some of them may have indicated they could even re-grow your missing hair.

In spite of what you may have seen on the pharmacy shelves, or on late-night infomercials, there are only two medications which have been FDA-approved, and which doctors routinely prescribe, as treatments for hair loss--minoxidil and finasteride. And of these, the more commonly prescribed is finasteride, in the pill form Propecia.

It is possible to stop hair loss with Propecia because male pattern baldness has been closely connected to an imbalance of the hormone dihydroxytestosterone, or DHT. DHT is created when the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme interacts with testosterone; researchers were able to stop hair loss with Propecia, which inhibited the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme and kept DHT from forming. In other works, they were able to stop hair loss with Propecia by intervening in the testosterone-enzyme-DHT cycle.

When Propecia was tested on a group of men suffering from mild or moderate androgenic alopecia, some of the men saw hair growth after only three months; and eventually 86% of them experienced re-growth of thinning hair. Over 90% of the men had no additional hair loss for the two years of the study, so the researchers had managed both to stop hair loss with Propecia and to re-grow hair in a majority of the study's subjects.

While attempting to stop hair loss with Propecia has produced minor sexual side effects in less than 2% of the men using it, Propecia is considered safe for adult men. Women, however, should not try to stop hair loss with Propecia; it is known to cause birth defects.

It is also not suitable for young children because it can lead to abnormal sexual development.

Because the longest study done to stop hair loss with Propecia only lasted two years, the long term effects of using Propecia are know yet known. But those who have decided to stop hair loss with Propecia must consider it a permanent part of their hair care regimen; those who discontinue it will have a recurrence of their hair loss. Propecia, fortunately, is taken in pill form once a day and does not require the application of messy creams or ointments. </bio>

Hair loss is a very common problem for both men and women. It can lead to anxiety, hurt a person's self confidence, and it can lead to mental and emotion problems. This information has lead many manufacturers to market various hair loss treatments. While some of them work well others are simply a waste of money.

For men, there are several very effective hair loss treatments to choose from including natural essential oils, natural herbs, medications, shampoos, serums, lotions, and conditioners. Finasteride, Minoxidil, and Rogaine are among the most popular hair loss treatments for men. Finasteride is often sold under the name of Propecia. Rogaine has to be used twice each day for a period of three to four months before you will see results.

Minoxidil is a very effective hair loss treatment for younger males to try. It does come with some irritating side effects though including a dry, itchy scalp. It can also affect a person's libido if it is used for long periods of time. To avoid such common side effects, many men choose to try natural hair loss remedies including Dr. Proctor, Thymuskin, Viviscal, Hair Genesis, Revivogen, Tricomin, and Nisim. Thymuskin is more effective for women than men by about 20%. It works by removing debris, dirt, and oil from the hair follicles. The main ingredient is Thymus Peptides that offer a deep cleansing. Viviscal shampoo helps to maintain healthy hair. It is available as a lotion, shampoo, or an oral pill. Hair Genesis products are also available as conditioners, topical serums, oral supplements, and hair regrowth shampoo. This products works by stopping the DHT blockers. <bio>You can also find more info on http://www.medicalhairtransplantation.org/hairlosstreatment/Finding_permane= t_hair_transplant_methods_today.html on top permanent hair and http://www.medicalhairtransplantation.org/hairlosstreatment/Hair_Treatment_= Center.html on hair treatment center. </bio>

This drug was originally designed to treat hypertension because of its vasodilating effects. However, it was found to have the side effect of hair growth. These hair transplants can grow for a long time since they are resistant to baldness. Hair transplants are made to mimic the natural structure of hair follicle groupings, which is 1 follicle: 1-4 hair strands.

Finasteride

This drug is more popularly known as Propeciaor Proscar and is classified as an aza-steroid. Finasteride was originally marketed as a treatment to benign prostatic hyperplasia. It works as an effective treatment to baldness because it prevents the production of the enzyme called 5-and#945;-reductase. This enzyme converts the testosterone in the body into DHT.
Finasteride is not recommended to be taken by pregnant women because it has been known to produce defects in fetal male. This drug is more prescribed to men than in women as it has been thought to be ineffective in women. However, this claim has been refuted and recently, it has been used a treatment for women as well.

It is important to remember that a consultation with the doctor is still the best solution to this problem.<bio>This article was provided by the London Hair Replacement Clinic and Wig Trendz Women's Wigs</bio>

Have your ever noticed a hair loss product advertising itself to increase the blood supply to your scalp? Unfortunately, this is one of the most common excuse used by fake companies to sell fake hair loss products.

Some scam hair loss products claim that your scalp needs vitamins and nutritional supplements for preventing hair loss. This is a very familiar line that they use because there is a popular myth that hair loss is caused by a lack of nutrition flowing to the scalp.

It is the high time to spot the scam hair loss products before clicking your mouse to obtain your hair loss treatment.

No time to waste

A reason why it is vital to get on hair loss treatments that work (or at least has a chance of working) is that male pattern baldness is a progressive condition that will, gradually, or in some cases, very quickly, lead to balding.

By staying on fake hair loss products for too long you will waste time in your quest to reverse hair loss. In fact, some of the ingredients used in fake products might do more harm to the scalp and hair follicles, which will expedite the process of hair loss.

Although there is a wide range of hair loss products available in the market, finasteride has been used extensively for hair loss cure. But the main side effect of this drug is that it causes erectile dysfunction among some of the users.

Do be careful in avoiding some sites that claim to sell genuine finasteride (propecia). These sites are in fact set up to deceive people in paying for something that has no effect on stopping hair loss.

Is it FDA approved?

The best way to avoid fake hair loss products is to thoroughly research the hair loss market and then purchase products that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because they have undergone extensive testing and have some validity as a serious hair loss treatment.

Some of the sites selling fake products are getting clever. Realising that many people are on to their deceiving ways, they are getting better at the way they market their products thus making it more difficult for people to discern whether the product is real or not.

Before adopting a suitable hair loss treatment, you must ascertain the exact cause for your hair loss. Men do not always suffer from androgenetic alopecia, so it is best to get an opinion from a doctor.

Do you know that excessive or premature hair loss maybe an indication of underlying medical conditions, but in most cases it will be androgenetic alopecia or better known as male pattern baldness (genetic hair loss).

Trusted sites

Buy your hair loss products from a trusted website. There are quite a few well-known sites that sell genuine hair loss treatments. A good place top start researching them is on Hairlosstalk.com.

Also, be careful that there are some treatments that aid in stopping hair loss or regrowing hair, but are not likely to be viable hair loss treatmens in their own right. <bio>http://www.howtoall.com/Menshealthfiles/howtounderstandhairlossandregrowyourhair.htm http://www.howtoall.com/Menshealthfiles/howtousenizoraltohelpstophairloss1.htm </bio>

Prostate enlargement, or benign prostatic hyperplasia, is a common diagnosis that affect many men over the age of forty years or older. While it is not a common cause of prostate cancer, it can cause the bladder to shut down if it is not treated, as well as urinary tract infections, and a great deal of discomfort.

Understanding what the prostate is will help you understand your condition as well. The prostate is very small, almost the size of a nickel. It is located near the base of your bladder. It is the gland that produces the white secretion that later makes the semen. The secretions from the prostate help to nourish the sperm when it is ejaculated from your body.

Before seeking the help of a doctor, you need to determine if your symptoms might be the cause of an enlarged prostate. The first sign is urine leakage. This soon turns into frequent urination, and then eventually you will not be able to urinate at all. If you are having any of these ate gland, or benign prostatic hyperplasia, is a condition that a man faces who is over the age of forty. It is also thought to be the most common diagnosis for men over the age of sixty. While having an enlarged prostate does not necessarily mean that prostate cancer is ahead, it is still a very uncomfortable problem to deal with.

The cause of an enlarged prostate is almost as mysterious as the common cold. A normal prostate gland is smaller than a quarter, but larger than a peanut. As the prostate grows, it begins to squeeze the urethra causing a large amount of pain. After this occurs, the bladder feels the constant urge to push urine down the narrowed urethra in a forceful manner. The bladder will eventually feel the urge to not completely release itself and it is then that the patient starts to have urinary retention.

In order to prevent the worst from happening, it is important that you spot the signs and symptoms of an enlarged prostate before the condition becomes worse. The first sign is the leakage of urine. If you let the problem continue, eventually you will not be able to completely empty the bladder. This will cause you to have frequent trips to and from the bathroom, especially in the middle of the night. Of course, the last symptom is the inability to urinate. You should not take any of the symptoms lightly and seek medical attention at the sign of the first symptom.

In the worst circumstances, patients who have let the problem persist without getting help for their symptoms have experienced fever, chills, nausea, extreme lower back pain, and blood in the urine. This could cause the patient to be hospitalized until their condition has been rendered stable. This is also one of the main reasons that men are recommended to visit the doctor each year for a prostate check. If the doctor finds that an enlarged prostate is present, there are two certain medications that can be used: Finasteride and Alpha-blockers.

Alpha-blockers can be used to relieve the symptoms of the enlarged prostate by relaxing the muscles in the gland. Doctors will then follow up with Finasteride in order to start shrinking the prostate gland. Mixed with the Alpha-blockers, the condition can be treated appropriately and you will not be in an extreme amount of pain as you were prior to the diagnosis occurring.

If medicine does not cure the problem, there is a surgical procedure that can be done, known as the transurethral resection of the prostate. The procedure consists of scraping tissue from the core of the prostate with the aid of a telescope. The transurethral incision of the prostate has also been considered as an option as well. Unlike the resection, the incision procedure involves a few cuts in the prostate in order relieve the pressure from the urethra. There is no scraping involved which is why it is preferred over the first procedure. If you sense that you might have an enlarged prostate, do not wait about seeking medical attention. The condition will only worsen if you wait.<bio>Visit Prostate Glands and be aware of the reality about the importance of prostate.</bio>

Loss of female hair is not the same as male hair loss determined by heredity. Female hair loss is temporary and is seldom an advance warning of baldness. Transient loss of hair should not, however, be ignored. It is possible for a woman to suffer from hormonal hair loss leading to baldness.

Some of the most common causes are:

1. Pregnancy 2. Severe emotional stress 3. Under medical treatment 4. Hormonal hair loss Is there a relationship between hair loss and menopause?

The most common cause of hair loss is low thyroid function, which is common among menopausal women.

Other causes include, but are not limited to: changes in hormone levels, increased testosterone, increased stress, which can either be physical stress, or emotional stress, various medications, scalp/dermatological issues and heredity.

Any time sudden hair loss is experienced, one must consider events which took place up to three months prior to the hair loss, as factors affecting hair loss can often take up to three months to have an effect, i.e., were you diagnosed with something new in the past few months? Did you start taking medication during the past few months? Did you go through a traumatic experience. Subsequently, any treatments for hair loss should be given at least three months to have noticeable effects.

There are of course various ways to solve hair problems, such as:

1. Wig / toupe 2. Hair-weaving (weaving in extra hair) 3. Hair transplant 4. Cosmetic hair treatment courses 5. Therapy

There are only a few products available worldwide which have been conclusively proven to combat hair loss. They are Aminexil, Alopesan 400, Maxilène, Minoxidil and Finasteride. It's very important for you as a consumer to know this if you are thinking of taking steps to combat your hair loss. Rogaine is another one of the more popular brand names in the hair loss industry. <bio>Every Hair Counts!
Many people suffer from or worry about hair loss. In fact, almost two-thirds of men will experience this at some point in their lives. However, one has to realize that it is a natural occurrence to everyone and usually is not a cause for alarm. Your hair falls out daily and then grows again as part of its natural growth cycle.

It is a cause for alarm, however, when the hair loss is more severe and does not seem to be growing back. In this case, it is time to go see a doctor to try and find a solution. However, realize that though some hair loss treatments may work for some, they may not work for others, and in fact there is no real guarantee that any of these treatments will work.

There are many reasons for hair loss -- it may be certain medications, illness, or hormone imbalance in your body. You can start off by trying some natural remedies, supplements or shampoo. But with severe hair loss, it is probably a good idea to go see a doctor and get medication. There are several medications that can help stop or slow your loss such as Rogaine or its generic name Minoxidil, which is an over-the-counter topical medication that seems to be quite effective. It is applied to the scalp and massaged in, but it may take up to six months to see any positive results. Another popular drug is Propecia or generic name Finasteride, and is available only by prescription. It is in pill form and has to be orally taken, and again, takes up to six months for any results to show.

Other than trying medications, you can also try restyling your hair to make your baldness less obvious. For example, men with baldness on top of their head can comb the remaining hair on either side over the top to cover the bald patch.

If the bald patch is too obvious, then probably something more concealing may work better, such as a wig or toupee. Wigs or toupees nowadays are much better made than those years ago. Wigs today are also less obvious as they can be made with human or good quality artificial hair.

If you are experiencing hair loss, then time is of essence. You should seek the help of a doctor right away. There are plenty of treatment options that will help stop your hair loss and allow it to grow back again. <bio>To stop Hair Loss, visit Susan's site at http://www.hair-growth.info.
When we think of breasts, we typically think about women but the fact of the matter is that man have the same plumbing that women do. The real difference between the two is that women have their breasts activated during puberty so that they grow large. The way that the body does this is actually very complex but it has a lot to do with the female sex hormone, estrogen. The male sex hormone, testosterone, does exactly the opposite by keeping the breasts from developing larger. If this hormonal balance gets out of adjustment somehow, it is possible for the male to develop large man boobs as if you were a woman. What can be done about it?

It actually depends on the underlying reason of why the man is growing breasts in the first place. There are some medical conditions, such as gynecomastia which would cause a boy that is going through puberty to produce an abundance of estrogen and he may begin to grow breasts in this way. There are some anti-estrogen treatments that he can go through but it is really hard on a boy's body when he is going through a difficult growing stage such as this anyway. Fortunately, this condition tends to go away after a year or two and the man boobs will disappear along with it. At that time, the boys estrogen and testosterone balance will be back.

It is also possible for this condition to happen as a result of taking medicines that causes an abundance of estrogen in the body. Some of the estrogen producing medications include cimetidine, spironolactone and finasteride. You may not be able to stop taking these medicines but your doctor can probably give you advice on what to do in order to gain your hormonal balance again.

Another reason that you may be lacking in testosterone is because of tumors somewhere in your body. These could be on the testicles, pituitary or thyroid glands just to name a few. Because these glands are responsible for the production of certain hormones and regulate growth it could cause you to grow and impressive set of breasts. You might need to take medication in order to gain your testosterone balance back if this is the case.

Still another reason why you may be experiencing man boobs is because you are obese. This is probably one of the most common reasons and there are a few things that you can do about it. Aside from getting breast reduction surgery done, you can lose weight, and therefore the breasts, through diet and exercise. It may take some time and some effort but it will be well worth it if you lose your man boobs.

One common thread through all of this is that testosterone is very important for a male in order for him not to develop large breasts. Even in the case of obesity, the production of testosterone is often reduced to next to nothing. So if you are having a problem in this area, build up your testosterone and you will see that it actually is the anti-breast juice. <bio>To find out how you can get rid of your manboobs, please visit http://www.allaboutmanboobs.com </bio>

There are many medications that can deal with male hair loss. A well known medication is known as Propecia. This particular medication is designed to specifically help men who are experiencing male pattern hair loss. In clinical studies, hair count increased during the first year and was maintained in those that took Propecia for 24 months. If you wish to take Propecia, it is useful to know how this medication can possibly help you in your hair loss.

Propecia, in generic terms is known as Finasteride. It is known to help men that are dealing with male pattern hair loss, also known as DHT. This particular pattern of baldness and hair loss is known to directly affect men because of genetics that are inherited from both their mother and father. The genes cause the hormone of DHT to react with the enzymes that are located in the scalp and hair region. When this happens, hair begins to thin and eventually causes for it to fall out completely.

Propecia is a prescription medication that has proven to be more effective in men than in women. Propecia will interact with male pattern baldness by adding an androgen hormone as a possible treatment. This will then balance out with the enzymes and other chemicals that are causing hair loss.

Women must not use Propecia when they are pregnant or hoping to get pregnant. Propecia can potentially cause abnormalities of the male baby's sex organs, a condition known as hypospadias. Additionally, women should not handle crushed or broken tablets when they are pregnant or may potentially be pregnant.

Propecia is FDA approved. Despite this, there are side effects to taking Propecia. Because of the added hormone, a small percentage of men have reported less desire for sex and difficulty in achieving an erection and/or a decrease in the amount of semen.

There may also be possible allergic reactions that occur, which can be noted from rashes, itching or irritation that takes place. If you should observe any of these symptoms, it is best to stop taking the medication and ask your doctor before you continue with the prescription.

Propecia is one of several medications that are available for those dealing with male pattern hair loss. Speak to your doctor to find out more about Propecia if you are interested to use this medication to help you in your treatment of falling hair. Knowing what your options are and evaluating your risks, will ensure that you make the best choice possible for treating your male pattern hair loss. <bio>Kathlene Capelle writes on female hair loss, male hair loss, cause of hair loss, hair loss prevention and natural hair loss treatments. Genetics, hormones and some medications can all contribute to this particular condition. If you are suddenly noticing bald patches or that your hair is thinning and coming off in clumps, it may be time to start to consider your options in hair loss treatments. The good news for this is that there are many ways to combat it. There are topical solutions, medications and some surgical procedures that can be done to help your alopecia. If you are considering to pursue a hair loss treatment, the first thing you need to do is to visit your doctor and get an examination and guidance as to which of the many hair loss treatments is the best for you.

There are lots of hair loss treatments available, there are the ones such as Rogaine and Nourkrin to name just two. Rogaine contains minoxidil in either a two or a five percent solution. Minoxidil can be rubbed into the scalp to stop any current hair loss, and in some cases can actually regrow the hair. This type of treatment only works when it is used consistently, which means that once product use has ceased hair loss will again resume. Nourkrin is a natural treatment that is backed by celebrities and is FDA approved, making it the leading brand for hair loss.

Medications

Medications such as Finasteride, which is also known as Procerin is an oral medication that is used as a hair loss treatment for men only. This product works by inhibiting the hormone DHT, which is known to shrink the hair follicles by turning testesterone into the hormone DHT. This medication has to be taken continuously, as ceasing taking this will result in the process of hair loss resuming. Procerin has not approved for women and can actually be dangerous for the unborn child of a pregnant woman.

Surgery Hair Loss Treatments

There are two main types of surgery hair loss treatments, and these include hair transplants and scalp reduction. A combination of these two treatments is often done to maximize the results. Surgery hair loss treatments can be a painful process that have some risks associated with them. The decision of surgery should be thought of very carefully. If you are concerned about the thinning of the hair, talk to your doctor today and find out about the appropriate hair loss treatments available to you.

There is now a product on the market that can be used at home that doesn't cost a fortune like the laser treatments that are available. This is the Laser Comb, which is also FDA approved and has been proven to help many people achieve thickening of the hair and some hair growth. <bio>If you would like to find out about the latest and best hair loss treatments and read the reviews and the many helpful articles please visit http://www.best-hair-loss-product-reviews.com </bio>

A condition that is common in older men, usually over the age of 40, is benign prostatic hyperplasia, or enlarged prostate. It has been discovered that a fourth of all men will have some form of swollen prostate by the time they reach the age of 50. However, it is in a small number of cases that hyperplasia will be severe enough to require a surgical procedure or medicines. Either way, an enlarged prostate is very uncomfortable and painful so it is not a condition that should go undiagnosed.

A normal prostate is slightly larger than a peanut and weighs around 20 to 30 grams. A swollen prostate can weigh anywhere from 50 to 100 grams. It should also be stated that prostatic hyperplasia is not a sign of prostate cancer. When you go in to the doctor to determine if you have an enlarged prostate, before the doctor can diagnose you they will test you for numerous things to make sure that it is prostatic hyperplasia instead of cancer.

There are several symptoms that will help you determine if you should visit the doctor for a diagnosis. The first sign of an enlarged prostate is urine leakage as well as feeling overall uncomfortable. As the problem persists, you will have a frequent urge to urinate, which is shortly followed by not being able to urinate at all.

The most common way for the doctor to check for an enlarged prostate before conducting tests is through a rectal exam. While this can be very uncomfortable, it is the only way for the doctor to see if your prostate is swollen or enlarged. However, many times the doctor is not able to diagnose the condition with a simple rectal exam. Instead, an x-ray picture of the urinary tract and prostate, or ultrasound pictures is the best way for the specialist to diagnose you properly.

After the doctor has determined your condition, you will have several treatment options. In most cases the doctor will try medicines first. Finasteride is an approved drug that forces the prostate gland to shrink naturally. The doctor will also prescribe an Alpha-blocker that helps relieve the pressure of the enlarged prostate.

In the event that the medicines were not effective, there are two types of surgery procedures that can be done. The first surgery procedure is the transurethral resection of the prostate. This is when the specialist will scrape an amount of tissue from the core of the prostate to help relieve pressure. The second option that many men are requesting is the transurethral incision of the prostate. Instead of scraping away at the core, the specialist will make several cuts in the gland to help relieve pressure.

In some cases, the patient's condition is already so severe that the medical treatment would not be effective first. Instead, the person has to undergo immediate surgery in order to prevent the bladder from experiencing more damage. If you are experiencing some or just one of the symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate, then you should not wait to see if it will improve.<bio>Visit Prostate Glands and be aware of the reality about the importance of prostate.</bio>

The enlargement of the prostate is a regular event for many men over the age of 50. As a man ages, the risk increases. While some men are more susceptible than others, it is still a very painful condition, which if left untreated can cause permanent damage. New medications are being approved on a constant basis in order to help treat an enlarged prostate. There are also alternative methods and surgical procedures.

If the enlargement is not severe, doctors will normally suggest medicines first, or an alternative treatment, without considering the use of surgery. Prescription medication to help improve the urine flow is usually prescribed to men with an enlarged prostate. These are also called alpha-blockers, and they act by relaxing the bladder. Some of the commercial brands have been found to cause eye disorders and are not recommended for men who are planning eye surgery or have undergone eye surgery.

Another popular medicine is Finasteride, also called Proscar. The drug has been found effective in shrinking the prostate. This type of treatment is only used if the condition is not severe. While this medication is slightly controversial, it has been proven to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. However, it has also been proven to accelerate the growth of tumors in men who have already been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Most medications will come with the normal side effects, such as nausea or dizziness. In order to avoid this, it is recommended that you take medications with food. When taking medication, you should also be careful about the other substances that you intake. Alcohol should be limited, as well as caffeine. You should only use herbal supplements with the approval from your doctor. While this might be explanatory, over-the-counter medications can cause certain reactions, especially decongestants and antihistamines. The reason is the fact that these medications might affect the muscle control of the bladder.

Herbal remedies are often tried by men if they are trying to avoid the visit to the doctor. The only problem is that the remedies are not required to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. This means that they are not required to go through testing in order to make sure that the remedies are safe for patients to use. This also means that the side effects of these remedies are not always understood or reported, and no one knows what the consequences of taking the remedies will be at a later time.

If you are not able to make it to the physician right away, there are several things that you can do at home to help take some of the pain or pressure from your bladder. One tip is to drink a less amount of fluids after 7 or 8PM. This will minimize the trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Cutting down on your alcohol consumption as well as caffeine is a good start as well, especially since you will be recommended to do this after you visit the doctor. As always, exercising regularly will help your condition as well.<bio>Visit Prostate Glands and be aware of the reality about the importance of prostate.</bio>

There are thousands and quite possibly millions of men who are suffering with an enlarged prostate at this very moment. Also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH, this condition affects most males over the age of 40, and more commonly over the age of 60. While being diagnosed with this might scare men, it is not a sign of future prostate cancer.

It is known that men produce a male hormone called testosterone, which is also the most important chemical in their body. Men also produce a very small amount of the female hormone estrogen. As a man ages, his amounts of active testosterone will decrease. The ending result is a higher level of estrogen. Some research studies have shown that when there is a higher amount of estrogen, it might promote more growth of cells in the prostate, which later results in BPH. There is another theory that suggests that when dihydrotestosterone accumulates within the prostate, cell growth is also promoted.

It has been studied and revealed that a man's age plays an important role in determining if he will have an enlarged prostate. This is one of the most common risk factors associated with BPH. There have also been studies that have proven that if other men in your family have had an enlarged prostate, then you are at a higher risk as well.

Even after you have your enlarged prostate treated, there will be a certain amount of risk factors that follow you through the rest of your life. Many men have complained of having a larger amount of urinary tract infections after being diagnosed with an enlarged prostate, frequent urination problems, and other bladder related issues.

In order to prevent certain risk factors from coming true, it is important for each man to have annual check-ups of the prostate as well as tests. The proper precautions are much smarter than waiting until a complication occurs to have your prostate checked. There are many health insurance companies that require their patients to have annual prostate check-ups if they are over a certain age or else they could have a higher premium. It is best to go ahead and have the evaluation conducted instead of taking the risk.

The good news is that if you have all of the risk factors and you are diagnosed with an enlarged prostate, there are two types of medication to help reduce the size of the prostate and alleviate the pains of an enlarged prostate. Finasteride helps reduce the size of the prostate while Alpha-blockers help relax the muscles at the neck of the bladder to make urination a simpler task.

When the medication does not work, there are two types of surgical procedures that can be conducted. One procedure involves scraping away at the prostate to reduce the size. Since this can be painful after the anesthetics wear off, many men are opting for another procedure. This involves making a few small cuts around the prostate to help alleviate the pressure on the bladder. There are many factors that are involved with an enlarged prostate. Make sure that you are taking the necessary precautions to prevent yourself from going through this painful situation.<bio>Visit Prostate Glands and be aware of the reality about the importance of prostate.</bio>

So your losing your hair? Feels like its the end of the world does it? Well I'm here to give you some good news and some bad news. We will start with the bad first and that is unfortunately hair loss isn't the only annoying change that goes with breaking into the golden years. Other changes include erectile dysfunction, swelling prostates, urinary symptoms that go with large prostates, decreasing time in stage 4 sleep, and the list goes on and on. The way I see it going bald is the least of your concerns.

Ok so the good news is that in today's age of pharmacy, there are several great options to solve many of the above mentioned problems, including hair loss. So you don't have to just accept your genetically determined fate. Not only are there good pharmalogical options but the semi surgical options of hair implants are always improving.

So what causes hair loss otherwise known as male pattern baldness? Well it is in the genes as mentioned above. The rumor is that it runs through the maternal line. So if your mom's dad is bald than you'd better start getting ready. That isn't the whole story though. It turns out that there is an enzyme that changes testosterone to dihyroxytestosterone or DHT. DHT which is produced in greater amounts and for which some are more sensitive to acts in many different ways including the root of the hair and actually acts as a toxin to the hair permanently ending the ability of the hair producing proginator cells to continue growing hair.

One of the best treatments is a drug called finasteride or propecia which inhibits the enzyme, alpha 1 reductase, that catalyzes the reduction of testosterone to DHT. If begun early enough it can prevent (or signigicantly slow) hair loss. This drug has been shown to be wonderfully efficacious at relatively low doses, which limits the side effects to a tolerable minimum. One problem with the drug that has recently been made much of in the media is the olympic ban on propecia. It turns out that it can and has been used as a coverup for anabolic steroid performance enhancing drugs. So a significant issue that fortunately effects only a very small minority of balding men.

As mentioned there is also the implant option which for a while seemed like it made you look worse than just having no hair. The corn rows weren't what most guys were going for and were any thing but natural. Now however you really have a hard time noticing the difference unless you are around a guy and all of a sudden they have a head of hair that didn't use to be there. So like I said, compared to the other problems that will eventually crop up, hair loss is tame. But lest we suffer in the looks department fortunately there are good options to stem the "disease." <bio>Trenton Martkes is a pioneer in the treatment of male-pattern hair loss, and he marvels at how far we have come in this area. He loves to offer this hope to men.
Do you suffer from hair loss or thinning of hair and looking for ways to hair growth or hair loss remedy/treatment? Read below. Some hair loss remedies may promot hair growth/hair regrowth.

We lose 20 and 100 hair each day without noticing it. Proper hair care can give you fabulous, shining, thick, beautiful, gorgeous, and dandruff free hair. Home made beauty recipes like hair care, dandruff care and hair loss based on herbs and natural ingredients help improve the hair.

The Biology of Hair Loss The average human scalp is covered by 100,000 hair follicles. If you've got all your hair, that may seem like a big number but when you start to lose it, the fate of each follicle becomes more important. What makes hair fall out?

Sprouting New Locks Today, many men turn to hair implants to cover their bald spots. And implants can look like the real thing. But as doctors remove hair follicles from where the hair is growing and implant them in spots where the hair is bare, implants in a too large bald spot make the whole head of hair look strangely sparse. That, and the length of the procedure--spanning about 16 hours in two sessions--is the reason that only two percent of men with male pattern baldness are estimated to seek out the surgery.

In the case of hereditary hair loss, as a man ages, some of his hair follicles become sensitive to the hormone dihydrotesterone (DHT), a chemical that is also partially responsible for the formation of male characteristics.

These hair follicles shrivel up and stop growing new hair. But what's not yet understood by scientists is why follicles in the back of the head never become sensitive to DHT, as hair continues growing there throughout a man's life.

To take advantage of the faithful follicles, a hair loss surgeon trained in hair cloning would remove a few hairs from the back of the head. But instead of inserting these hairs back into the top of the scalp, as in the case of transplantation, he would take them to a lab where the hairs can be broken down into individual cells and reproduced an almost infinite number of times. Those new hair cells can then be sent back to the doctor a few weeks later, where they are reinserted into the patient's scalp. In theory, the new follicles would begin to grow hair within three months.

Female Baldness A drug used to treat male baldness could also help women with thinning hair, an Italian study suggests. Up to half of women experience some hair thinning during their lifetime.

The hair loss researchers said the Archives of Dermatology findings showed finasteride could be used for those who could not use the standard lotion treatment. <bio>The average human scalp is covered by 100,000 hair follicles.
While the forty percent of all men who are likely to experience some hair loss in their lives constitute an enormous potential market for an effective hair loss remedy, and research to supply them with one is ongoing, only minoxidil has proven somewhat effective in cases of male pattern baldness. Another drug, originally created as a treatment for prostate problems, and now marketed as the pill Propecia, also shows some promise as a hair loss remedy.

But there has yet to be discovered a substance which will function as a universal hair loss remedy. No product currently used as a hair loss remedy can be effective in all instances of hair loss, because there are many underlying causes of baldness. Those people who educate themselves both about the way in which healthy hair grows, and the reasons it stops growing, will be much less likely to be hooked by the exaggerated claims of effectiveness which often accompany the latest hair loss remedy.

Research has indicated that the hormone dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, may be one of the major factors in male pattern baldness. Enzymes which can inhibit the body's production of DHT from testosterone are credited with preventing hair loss; minoxidil and finasteride, the active ingredients in Rogaine and Propecia, have each been given FDA approval for use as a hair loss remedy.

Even though a hair loss panacea has yet to be discovered, those suffering from hair loss will benefit from determining why they are experiencing it so they can either search for an appropriate hair loss remedy, or choose not to use one at all.

Some of the conditions leading to hair loss are curable; if its underlying cause is eliminated, the hair loss will take care of itself. Both lupus and diabetes, for instance, may contribute to hair loss in their sufferers, and only by talking with your physician will you know if either of them is a contributing factor in yours.

Stress, both physical and emotional, has been linked to hair loss, which was reversed as soon as the stress-inducing situations were eliminated. In cases of stress, time may be the only hair loss remedy necessary.

Hormone imbalances may lead to hair loss, and if the hormonal balance is restored, hair growth may be as well. If someone is not genetically pre-disposed to hair loss and begins experiencing it, however, he or she should not use any kind of hair loss remedy without first seeing a doctor to determine if there is an organic reason for the condition.

The herb Gotu Kola has been used by Chinese herbalists for centuries s one of the most effective natural hair loss treatments; it has been researched and found to restore the hair and thicken the skin of rats suffering from alopecia.
