Even if you live in a state that requires no fault insurance, you may not completely understand what no fault insurance is, and how it differs from traditional, standard liability (torte) car insurance systems. And if you are relocating to a state that requires no fault insurance, you may even have more difficulty understanding the changes in liability.

Before you purchase a new no fault insurance policy, be sure you understand what no fault insurance is, and understand your state's specific requirements and your personal needs.

What Is No Fault Insurance?

Currently, 10 U.S. states require no fault insurance (Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota and Utah). Three other regions allow you to select no fault insurance as an option: Washington, D.C., Kentucky and Pennsylvania.

Under the standard liability insurance system, the ability to recover damages is based upon "provable negligence" -- the ability to prove who was at fault for your accident. However, under the no fault insurance system, your ability to recover damages from other drivers if an accident occurs is limited. To compensate for this limitation, you are required to purchase no fault insurance. In the event of an accident, your insurance company pays your damages (up to your policy limits), regardless of whom is at fault. Other drivers are covered by their insurance policies.

A pure no fault system would completely cover you in the event of an accident, as well as prohibit you from ever suing another driver. In the U.S., no state uses a pure no fault insurance system. Instead, no fault states use a combination of a no fault insurance and standard liability insurance systems. This means that under certain conditions, lawsuits are permitted.

In most no fault states, drivers can still be held financially responsible for an accident damages if injuries reach a predefined level of severity. For example, there may be a dollar amount threshold for medical bills that must be met before a lawsuit can be file. Or the law may verbally state a broad definition of what type of severe and serious injuries - like death, dismemberment and disfiguration - qualify for torte action.

That's why it's important to have liability coverage even if you live in a no fault insurance state.

About Your No Fault Insurance Policy: Personal Injury Protection

Personal injury protection (PIP) is the piece of your car insurance policy that pertains to no fault coverage. Due to state laws, the specifics of personal injury protection vary from state to state. PIP often covers expenses your medical insurance does not, such as co-pays and lost wages -- and sometimes even replacement costs (your expense to do something you would normally do yourself). Keep in mind that PIP insurance is not designed to replace your personal medical insurance.

In addition, no fault insurance has no effect on the damages for the automobiles involved in your accident. The insurance companies will still determine liability. If you are at fault and do not have car insurance, both the no fault insurance company and medical insurer can file a lawsuit against you to recover damages. And if you are at fault and don't have collision car insurance coverage, you'll still be responsible for repairing your own car.

No fault insurance was designed to protect drivers by providing everyone with medical coverage, as well as reduce legal and administrative costs associated with insurance claims. Under the standard liability insurance system, victims can be left unable to obtain appropriate medical coverage, and physicians may be unable to recover their fees, while parties sort out liability. Ideally, this would reduce car insurance premiums. However, remaining liability issues often cause no fault insurance premiums to be higher than standard liability car insurance premiums.

Shopping for No Fault Insurance

Before you purchase a no fault insurance policy:

• Understand your state's specific rule, requirements and regulations.

• Create a personal auto insurance profile -- a list of the vehicles you own and their safety features, the driving records of anyone using them, where they are driven, and where you live, what you can afford in a premium, and the assets you need to protect

• Compare rates. Talk to several agents to determine what policy offers you the best protection, as well as car insurance premium.<bio>If you live in a state operating on a no fault insurance system, you can visit Nationwide.com for more car insurance tips</bio>

Rental cars are very convenient to have access to because they keep you from putting the wear and tear of traveling on your own car. They are also great for those who do not have a car that will survive lengthy trips. But there is one thing that has to be considered and that is the fact that accidents do happen. What happens if you are rear-ended in a rental car and you're not at fault? Are you responsible for the damages or is the person who was at fault? Does the car rental company take care of it? What happens? These are all excellent questions because it can be quite confusing when an accident occurs.

It is also a good idea to get answers to any questions you have when you rent the car. It is not enough to hope that you do not get into an accident. When it is not your fault, that means you had no control over what happened. You could not have prevented it in any way. The only actions that you can prevent are your own, so make sure you receive the necessary information from the car rental company regarding what to do in case of a crash.

Insurance

Your individual insurance should cover you while in a rental car. That is why the rental car company requests that you prove your insurance. They like to have copies of your insurance card in case there is an accident. However, it is fair to assume that they do this in case the accident is your fault and they need to make a claim on your insurance to cover the damages.

When asking the car rental company about how it would work if you're in a wreck that isn't your fault, they may tell you to consult with your insurance company. Being that you're covered by your individual insurance, you are subject to their particular rules and regulations.

What to do in an accident

So what are you to do in the case that you are rear-ended in a rental car? Be sure you call your insurance company before you do a single thing. If the rental car company says that you owe them money, don't just pay up. Make sure you talk to your insurance company first. They will tell you what to do. They will most likely take the claim and then submit it to the insurance company of the individual who caused the crash. That way the damages are paid to the rental car company. If any deductibles need to be paid, then you'll pay that deductible to your insurance company and not the car rental company. There shouldn't be any reason why you would have to pay them any money for a crash that wasn't your fault. It also depends on what your insurance policy says about wrecks when you're in a rental car.

So make sure you know these things before renting a car. That way you'll know exactly what to do if you are rear-ended on the interstate. When being rear-ended it is obvious that it isn't your fault. Most rear-end accidents are considered the fault of the driver who hit you. So proving that the crash wasn't your fault is not a hard task at all. Just know your rights and have all of the information ready so that you don't panic if you're in a wreck. Don't start running crazy scenarios through your head such as having to pay the entire cost of the rental car. That is something very unlikely. Just be sure to call the police and take insurance information from the driver at fault just like you would if it were your own car.<bio>Offers a wide range of truck rentals and car rentals from small size cars to full size trucks.
Car accidents happen everyday, some are serious and fatal while some cause just minor dents in vehicles. A car accident is classified the same though no matter how severe the accident is, so this means that if you hit a vehicle you can be ticketed and charged possibly even if it's minor. When you're young and new to driving you need to especially watch how you drive, because one accident can mean that your insurance jumps to an amount that isn't even feasible. Insurance is always expensive when you first start driving and as time passes along if you keep a clean driving record then it will start lowering in price, but the second you get into an accident it can jump like crazy. If you're found "at fault" in an accident this means your insurance company needs to pay the damages to the other vehicle and it means your insurance is going to rise dearly.

It's very important that you don't get into an accident because if you're deemed the at fault driver then it could put your whole driving career in jeopardy. Usually when you run into something you're at fault and if you put a claim through insurance then your rates will go up depending on how bad the damage was. Now if you get into an accident with another vehicle then it becomes a challenge sometimes, because the insurance companies and police need to find the at fault driver. Sometimes this is easy to determine and other times it is difficult and sometimes you can become the at fault driver even when it wasn't you who caused it. To avoid this circumstance you need to avoid car accidents period because you never know when it could become you who is the at fault driver.

With only one accident your insurance rates can increase as much as 100 percent, which isn't the case most times, but if you're a young driver then you can expect it too be close to that figure. Accidents are not a joking matter and you must ensure that you never get into an accident where it's your fault because it could cost you thousands of dollars over the years. An accident can affect your insurance rates for as long as ten years after the actual accident, which means you will be paying for your mistake for up to ten years.

If you're already an established driver then you won't be hit as hard on the insurance rate spike, but you can expect to pay up to 15-50% more depending on your age and how long you've been with your current insurance company. Some insurance companies will value their clients and if you have a good driving record and then get into an accident after being with them for many years then they may give you a free pass on your accident, which means you won't pay for it for the next ten years. Not all companies do this though so don't assume you will get away with being in an accident.<bio>Miami Car TransportAuto Shipping </bio>

Most people think of life insurance when it comes to having insurance in the event of death; however, life insurance isn't the only insurance that's nice to have when death is involved. People normally purchase life insurance policies for themselves; however, what happens if the death of another person is your fault? If the person died due to an accident caused by something on your property or an automobile accident, in which you were at fault, having an adequate homeowner's insurance policy or car insurance policy.

In America, all 50 states require some form of car insurance or proof of financial responsibility. It's the law, and most people comply. Yet, the amount of car insurance varies from state to state, and the damages that occur during a car accident usually cost more to repair than the minimum requirements for car insurance. If you should be involved in a car accident that results in the death of another person, and you are the driver at fault, your state's minimum car insurance requirements may not be enough to cover the damages. When this is the case, you can bet lawsuits will be filed.

The same applies to accidents caused by something on your property resulting in death. You and your spouse might know to skip that wobbly step on the way up to your front door, but your visitors may not, and if a fall results in death, the family of the victim will go knocking at your homeowner's insurance company's door. If there's not enough insurance to cover damages -- and there usually isn't since homeowner's insurance isn't often required -- they'll probably go knocking at an attorney's door next.

Instead of thinking about what you can get away with in the present, think about what situations you want to avoid in the future. Purchase more than the minimum amount of car insurance required, and purchase homeowner's insurance even if it isn't required. <bio>http://www.myquoteguide.com/Car-Tips.shtml http://www.ezquoteguide.com/home/ http://www.ezquoteguide.com/car/ </bio>

New York State is a no-fault state in terms of car insurance coverage. Simply put, this means your car insurance policy will cover you, and the other guy's car insurance policy will cover him, regardless of who was at fault for the damages.

You can purchase New York's minimum car insurance requirements just the same as you would in any other state in America; however, New York's minimum car insurance coverage requirements are a bit more in-depth as far as coverage goes, and pricier as far as costs go.

The minimum car insurance coverage in New York is as follows:

$10,000: Property damage liability $50,000: Basic, no-fault coverage

Bodily injury liability: For injury, $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. For death, $50,000 per person, and $100,000 per accident.

Uninsured motorist's coverage: For injury, $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. For death, $50,000 per person, and $100,000 per accident.

Of course, if you don't own your car out-right, i.e., you borrowed money from a lender to help pay for it, you may have to purchase more car insurance than the minimum.

Despite the high costs of the minimum car insurance requirements, it is possible to get cheap car insurance in New York. Shop around with a few NY car insurance companies (remember, drivers in New York must purchase car insurance from a company licensed to do business in New York) and ask about what kinds of discounts they offer. Some discounts are pretty standard, such as those for good students and multi-line policies; other discounts may be unique to that particular car insurance company.

You may also make changes on your own to your car. Make sure it is up-to-date with safety features such as anti-theft alarm systems and reinforced window. Child-proof locks aren't only safe, but impressive to car insurance companies. And instead of leaving your car in the side of the street, store it in a garage. <bio>http://www.ezquoteguide.com/car/ http://www.myquoteguide.com/car-teen.shtml </bio>

Many individuals don't realize it, but any car insurance company is going to check your credit score right along with your driving record and other car insurance history. Under FCRA regulations auto insurance companies ask for permission to see your credit score to determine your risk. Basically there are two things they look at in coming up with your car insurance quote. First they look at your credit score and then they determine an insurance risk score. This article is going to delve into the scores and how it could affect you as you shop around for car insurance. You will also learn that some states have regulations regarding their insurance premiums.

First there are many things that will determine the premium. The car insurance company is going to look at age, income, gender, race, religion, marital status, and geographical data on the insurance application. Many states have different regulations that must be followed in order for you to gain insurance. For an example Colorado has limits on the lowest amount you can have regarding coverage. In other states like Florida you have what is called a no fault insurance option to avoid any fault being laid on the wrong driver. In other words there were so many rear end accidents caused by individuals who didn't turn on their blinkers, but instead just slammed on the breaks, in which the person following them would hit them. Since the debate could go either way for who is at fault in this instance the no fault insurance was started. We mentioned above that certain states had regulations on how high their premiums can go. Washington is one state that regulates insurance companies so that the premium can't rise higher than is fair for the consumer no matter their credit score.

Let's look at how the credit score and risk score will affect your premiums for car insurance. Insurance companies look at the correlation between credit scores and driving history. They have done several studies showing the likelihood of a consumer filing a claim. They believe that a good driver is someone who is not under financial stress. In other words if the credit score is high the insurance company will believe the consumer is trustworthy as a driver because their financial life is handled responsibly. This means that they are less likely to file a claim. Likewise for someone who has financial stress they are perceived to have more stress and less responsibility. This means that the risk is higher. So the credit score goes into the calculation for insurance risk scores. The lower your credit score is the higher your premiums are going to be based on this system. Even if you are a responsible person and had an instance of bankruptcy due to bad investments or clients not paying you, the car insurance company is going to see you as a risk and therefore your premiums will rise. It is important to understand this correlation in order to understand why your premiums change when you renew your insurance every six months or yearly. <bio>Mark Robinson writes for http://auto-insurance.guidefin.com </bio>

While saving money on car insurance is on everyone's minds when getting cheap car insurance quotes you do have to give them some very careful consideration. It is essential that you check the small print of a policy and understand the terms and conditions as well as the exclusions within a policy to make sure that you have adequate cover.

An online specialist broker in car insurance can not only search around on your behalf for quality cheap car insurance quotes but they will also offer information and FAQs on car insurance so that you can learn all you need to know about the various types.

There are basically three different types of car insurance - comprehensive car insurance, third party fire and theft, and third party only. Comprehensive car insurance gives the most cover and protects your car against fire, theft and damage regardless of who is at fault if there should be an accident. If you buy a brand new car or a used car that is over a set amount then you may have no other option but to take fully comprehensive insurance.

Third party fire and theft will cover your car against fire and theft but it will not cover you against damage caused by an accident which was your fault, though it will pay any third party costs. Third party only will pay out for damage to others property but will not for repairs to or replacement of your own car if you are in an accident.

Along with the three basic types of car insurance there are also add-ons such as breakdown cover which can give total peace of mind but of course boosts up the cost of your cheap car insurance quotes. A specialist broker website will be able to find you the cheap car insurance quotes but you do have to give them some serious consideration and read the small print and exclusions within a policy. <bio>David Thomson is Chief Executive of BestDealInsurance (http://www.bestdealinsurance.co.uk) an independent specialist broker dedicated to providing their clients with the best deal on their home, motor and life insurance. </bio>

It would pay out to repair your car and the other party's if you should be involved in an accident which was deemed to be your fault and insure against it being stolen or damaged by fire.

Third party fire and theft will pay out if your car should be stolen or damaged by fire and will also payout for damage to the other party's car through an accident of your fault.

Third party only will only payout for any damage to the other party's car if you cause an accident and is of course the cheapest form of insurance but wont payout to repair your car.

A car insurance rate will vary from provider to provider so it is essential that you get more than one quote whichever type of car insurance you wish to take. By shopping around and comparing the car insurance rate you will be able to get the best possible deal on the type of insurance that you want or need and the quickest way to do this is by letting a specialist website compare quotes on your behalf. <bio>David Thomson is Chief Executive of BestDealInsurance (http://www.bestdealinsurance.co.uk) an independent specialist broker dedicated to providing their clients with the best deal on their home, motor and life insurance. </bio>

People have different opinions when it comes to leasing a vehicle and buying a vehicle, but here's the basic gist of it: buying a vehicle differs from leasing a vehicle in that buying a vehicle requires you to pay for the entire vehicle, whereas leasing a vehicle requires you to pay for the amount of the vehicle you "use up" during a set period of time. Simply put, once the time period is up the person leasing the vehicle may decide to buy the vehicle, or move on.

There's no difference, however, in purchasing automotive insurance for bought and leased vehicles. If you lease a vehicle and finance through the dealer or a bank, you're still required to purchase automotive insurance for your leased vehicle. Just because you're only paying for the portion of the vehicle that you use during a specific time period doesn't mean you aren't responsible for repairing the damages to the leased vehicle, or the damages your leased vehicle may inflict upon another person's vehicle, or another person.

For example, if your leased vehicle is involved in an accident that is your fault and involves another party, you're responsible for paying to repair not only the damages to your leased vehicle, but the damages to the other party's vehicle, as well. At the same time, if your leased vehicle is involved in an accident but no other party is involved, you're responsible for repairs to your leased vehicle if the accident was your fault.

Too, your leased vehicle may be involved in an accident that wasn't your fault with a party that doesn't have automotive insurance. By having automotive insurance for your leased vehicle, you are safeguarding yourself against drivers who don't have automotive insurance.

The purpose of automotive insurance is universal. Regardless of whether you buy or lease your vehicle, and regardless of your reasons for buying or leasing, you must still purchase automotive insurance. <bio> http://www.myquoteguide.com/Car-Coverage.shtml http://www.ezquoteguide.com/home/ http://www.ezquoteguide.com/car/ </bio>

Maybe this is your third speeding ticket this month, and your driver's license is about two points away from being revoked or you have been in your fifth accident in five years (only two of those were actually judged to be your fault). Whatever your driving history is, you may need to evaluate your car insurance again, and find out whether or not there are other options for you.

The problem with being a bad driver (or just an unlucky driver) is that if you lose your driver's license, your car insurance company is probably going to drop your coverage. If you get dropped, and then get your license back after a while, you are going to find out that it is difficult to find cheap car insurance. You can get as many car insurance quotes as you want; you are going to end up paying a lot of money for insurance.

So how do you find a good car insurance if you aren't too reliable of a driver? The best bet is to talk to several agents in person, and see what they can do for you. Sometimes, you may be able to take defensive driving courses or even the entire driver's education course again in order to get a discount or reduce the number of points on your license. Any little bit helps, and you may find out that the money that you save monthly by taking a weekend course on driving from your car insurance company is going to save you money in just a couple of months (and maybe even make you a better driver).

No one wants to admit that they are a bad driver, or that they were at fault, but the key to getting cheap car insurance is to sometimes admit that you are not the world's best driver. A lot of times, you can plead "guilty" to an offense and get reduced fines and penalties rather than pleading "innocent", going through the whole legal procedures and then getting the full fines.

When filling out the paperwork to get a cheap car insurance quote, make sure that you tell the truth. Before the policy is issued, they are going to take a look at your driving record, and lying about how many accidents you have been in is going to just cause you trouble with the car insurance company.

The final tip to finding the best car insurance if you are a not-so-great driver is to get quotes from all sorts of car insurance agencies. You may think that you are stuck with car insurance from those who deal with high-risk drivers, but you may just be able to get a normal company to cover you. If you can get regular car insurance, you may be limited in options initially, but after awhile you should be able to find a cheap car insurance option.

Car insurance is one of those evils that we have to buy. Those who can't get any car insurance at all are either a menace on the road or doomed to taking the bus. Driving safely and keeping your eyes on the road will eventually pay off by having cheaper car insurance. <bio>Quoteme.ie provides the cheap car insurance quotes from top-notch insurance companies in Ireland!
If you do not hail from an insurance or commerce background, shopping for auto insurance can be a quite confusing affair. Auto insurance websites and proposals are full of insurance jargon that can sometimes get difficult to decipher. In order to make the overall process a little less taxing on your mind, we have explained some of the commonly bought auto insurance policies in a simple manner, as follows:

1. Property Damage related Auto Insurance: In case you're found at fault in an accident that causes serious damages to the other driver's car, then this type of auto insurance policy will pay up for all pertinent repairs of the other vehicle. Such policy can be a great lifesaver if you end up colliding with an expensive sports car due to your own mistake. In its absence you might even have to take expensive loans to cover up the damages. We all know that repairs of expensive cars never come cheap.

2. Personal Injury related Auto Insurance: This type of auto insurance is meant for covering up the injuries you suffer in a road accident. It normally covers up all your medical expenses and in some plans it also compensates for the lost wages due to your inability to attend office. There are certain options available in personal injury insurance through which you can even ensure that your nominees are paid compensatory amount in the unfortunate event of your death in a road accident. Please note, you'll be paid medical expenses even if you are the driver at fault in an accident.

3. Comprehensive Auto Insurance Cover: Although very expensive, this type of insurance policy will ensure complete peace of mind in your driving routines. Such auto insurance cover pays up for all expenses resulting from any vehicle related accident that you suffer. It also includes coverage in the cases of fire, theft, vandalism and natural disasters. With a comprehensive insurance cover, you'll never have to worry about waiting for months/years to claim damages from the other driver or his/her insurance company.

4. Bodily Injury related Auto Insurance: It is no news that medical expenses can cause serious damages to anyone's pocket in America. In the even that you meet with an unfortunate accident and end up hurting the other driver, bodily injury insurance will come to your rescue to save you from the compensatory expenses. Hence, this type of insurance can prevent the other driver from suing you for medical expenses.

5. Collision Auto Insurance: Such type of auto insurance cover only compensates for your vehicle damages in an accident caused due to your fault. In the event that your vehicle is damaged beyond repair, you'll be paid the existing market value of the car in cash.

6. Uninsured Motorist Auto Insurance: Despite the strict auto insurance laws, there are several negligent drivers out there who drive around without even the basic insurance cover for their vehicles. An uninsured motorist policy ensures that you are able to claim damages for your vehicle and yourself even if the other driver is at fault and he/she doesn't hold an insurance cover to pay up your expenses.

We hope that by describing different types of auto insurance policies in this article, we have made your task of purchasing one a little easier. <bio>Mark Robinson writes for http://auto-insurance.guidefin.com </bio>

Many families do not think about car insurance until they need it. That's perfectly natural. However, to save your family some stress and anxiety, be sure that you always have current car insurance. Your car insurance protects you and your car in case of an accident.

Policies vary, so it is critical to check your car insurance policy. Most car insurance policies will cover you if you have a car accident with another car at either you are at fault or it is a no-fault accident. Your car insurance will pay to have your car repaired. This car insurance will also pay to have the other car repaired as well.

Most car insurance policies have a deductible that you must first meet. This is a dollar amount of a claim that you must meet before the car insurance company will pay anything to repair your car. Typically, the more expensive your policy the lower your deductible. When your car insurance is inexpensive there is a strong chance you have a high deductible. It is a wise step to confirm what your deductible is before you have a car accident.

Most car insurance companies offer a variety of deductibles and you can change your deductible limit by paying either more or less. The decision to do this is very personal, and only you can decide which policy would be best for you. There are people who haven't had an accident in twenty years that want a low deductible. Then there are people who have had a recent accident that want a high deductible. Everyone is different.

Some states in the U.S.A. actually do not require that you have car insurance. However, many states do require that you have both a registered and an insured car. This protects you and the other drivers on the road from any possible accident. Were you to get in any type of car accident, an insured driver is covered for the most part by putting in a claim. An uninsured driver often winds up getting a personal lawsuit from the other driver as a result of the accident. Sometimes the uninsured driver does not have enough assets to pay the other driver what they are owed. Car insurance is a great benefit that certainly protects your family from a potential lawsuit and any other stresses.

Many car insurance policies will also cover your medical bills if you are in a car accident. This includes hospital and surgery bills. Some car insurance policies will pay for physical therapy or reconstructive surgery. There are even car insurance policies that will protect your pets from possible harm. It is nice to know that were your pet to be harmed during a car accident, that the car insurance company would pay their medical bills as well.

Some people may complain about the cost of car insurance and having to pay for it. No one likes having to pay an additional bill. However, the benefits of car insurance far outweigh the negatives of possibly having this type of insurance. There are so many reasons to be happy that you have car insurance. Anyone that is driving a car should have car insurance. To drive without car insurance is to take a real gamble.<bio>For more detailed information about imported car insurance you can visit http://www.fancyacar.co.uk/.</bio>

No matter how many safety features car-makers add to our vehicles, there is still the human element to deal with. Somebody runs a red light, doesn't brake fast enough, or is in too much of a hurry to notice the 18-wheeler in the next lane and an accident is the result. As more and more people get on the road, the odds increase that something will happen to you and your vehicle. Because of that fact, having quality insurance is important, whether an accident (and the resulting ticket) is your fault or not. But what happens when the accident is your fault? What if there are a few accidents and tickets that are your fault? Here's some advice on what to do and what to expect after you've had an accident.

Double-Check Your Coverage

One of the first things you should look into after you've had an accident is what exactly your auto insurance covers. Different policies from different auto insurance providers will cover you against different incidents and for different amounts. Knowing what you're covered against is a good first step to knowing what to expect financially for the future.

Contact Your Auto Insurance Provider

Even after you've exchanged information with whomever you've had an accident with, you should call your car insurance provider to let them know what has happened. While they are sure to find out eventually, calling them allows you to give your side of the story, and being proactive never hurts either.

Work With Your Car Insurance Provider

Depending on the accident, and how many you've had, your car insurance provider may increase your premiums, require you to attend classes about responsible driving, or they may simply cancel your policy. Be aware of these possibilities and be ready to work with your car insurance company to overcome any issues that may present themselves.

Get the Forms You Need

Depending on the severity of the accident, and how many you've had, your auto insurance provider, or the courts, may require that you get certain forms that acknowledge your status as a high-risk driver, or that you don't have car insurance at all. If you have North Carolina auto insurance this form is called a FS-1, and if you have Virginia car insurance it's called a SR-22, but they're essentially the same thing.

Getting Your FS-1/SR-22

Most auto insurance providers will file these for you if either they or the courts dictate that you must have one, however, if you don't have car insurance and you need either the FS-1 or the SR-22, you clearly can't rely on your car insurance company to file them for you. There are typically locations throughout any town or city that can provide the form and file it for you for a fee. Having this form is not a form of car insurance, but more an acknowledgement of your risk status or lack of auto insurance.

Be Prepared

While you can't truly prepare for an accident, being prepared for what happens after you've had one, including knowing what to do, can help save you time and money down the line. If you're a high-risk driver then being prepared for the worst is probably the best idea as it will allow you to be prepared for whatever might come. That doesn't mean, however, that the worst will happen. <bio>Christy Winston is a Branch Manager for Insurance Doctor, which can be found at: http://www.myinsurancedoctor.com .
If you are one of those people who think auto insurance is a scam, beware. There could be some major payout in your future. Car insurance is extremely valuable, particularly in today`s society as more and more people find themselves involved in accidents that aren`t even their fault. You can literally be the safest driver around and still end up in a car accident. While it may not have been your fault, you may still be liable for some of the damages and this is where it comes in very handy to have auto insurance.

It Could Be Illegal

Depending on where you live, chances are it`s illegal to drive without insurance, so you`ll want to make sure that you have the minimum required, which is liability. Even in areas where you aren`t required to have insurance per se, you ARE required to have the money to cover an accident. You will need to actually prove that you can pay for damages, should they occur. This could be a big problem if you don`t have much money stored up in the bank.

Most drivers without auto insurance end up doing hit and runs, to avoid being caught, which usually results in jail time. It`s not a good idea to drive without auto insurance, but this isn`t the worst that could happen if you avoid it.

Since driving without insurance or the ability to pay for damages can hold some big consequences, you will want to know what they are in your area. Some states only charge a fine (often in the thousands) or impound your car, but many will include jail time.

Bigger Losses, Bigger Payouts

What happens if you are in a car accident and you haven`t purchased car insurance? You will be in big trouble, to say the least, particularly if the accident is deemed to be your fault. You will be responsible for any injuries and damages involved in the accident, which can grow very rapidly.

Not only will you be penalized for not having the appropriate insurance, you will also be required to pay out of your pocket. This can literally bankrupt someone and it can be extremely bad for your record. You could even lose your license, which negates the need to buy auto insurance after the fact.

A major car accident could end up costing you hundreds of thousands of dollars, plus fines and jail time. It`s really not worth it when you consider how little you would pay each month for peace of mind with auto insurance. Not to mention, if you are the one injured in an accident and the other driver has no insurance, you are really going to be in trouble. You`ll end up having to pay your own medical bills, which, as we all know, can get very expensive, very fast.

Driving without auto insurance could be the biggest risk you`ve taken in your life. While you will be saving money in the moment, there`s no telling when (not if, but when) you will be in an accident and need that insurance. Rather than paying a minimal amount along the way, you`ll end up being responsible for everything all at once and that`s a hit that most bank accounts just can`t deal with.

Rather than risk your savings, it`s far better to invest in auto insurance and simply pay by the month or year, eliminating the need to lose everything when you have a collision. The minimal amount of insurance will keep jail and fines at bay and doesn`t have to be terribly expensive.<bio>Complete home insurance and auto insurance Ontario.
Auto accidents are a very common occurrence that sometimes results in injury and sometimes doesn't. When an injury has not been incurred, some may not find it necessary to report the incident to the police, especially if no damage was done to the vehicles involved. However, an injury does not have to be recognized at the time of the crash. Some injuries can develop days and even weeks later. It is similar to when you are lifting weights and you wake up the next morning with soreness in your muscles. You didn't feel the pain while you were doing it, but you definitely feel it the day after.

When a non-injury motor vehicle crash occurs, it is important to exchange information with the other driver in case a health issue or vehicle issue does come about later on. However, it is a good idea to go ahead and call the police and listen to what they suggest should be done if no injury or vehicle damage occurred. They may elect to come investigate the crash or may suggest simply exchanging information between drivers.

However, if there was no injury and there was vehicle damage, it is very important to call the police because of insurance purposes. The police must file a report regarding who was at fault in the accident so that the one who was not at fault can turn the report and any other information over to the insurance company. If this is not done, the driver who was not at fault in the accident will have to pay any deductibles associated with their insurance. That is why it is in their best interest to seek payment from the insurance company of the one who was at fault in the accident.

This makes it very important that the insurance companies know who is at fault in order for the repairs to be paid for by the proper party. The most reliable way of learning who was at fault is through the police report. The police report outlines the stories of both drivers, which can determine who was truly at fault in the accident. The report includes any witness accounts that can be very beneficial to the case of the driver who was not at fault.

But again, listening to what the police have to say is very important, but if you absolutely feel that a police report should be filed, you can ask them to send someone and that you will wait for them to arrive. If the impact caused any kind of jerking of the neck or shoulder, then it is important that that be documented in case an injury develops later on as a result of the crash. At other times, it is up to the two parties involved in the crash as far as what to do, but this can be somewhat risky depending on the impact of the crash. Plenty of minor fender benders have turned into a case of whiplash because it doesn't really take much to cause a neck injury even if the car didn't receive a scratch. All it takes is for the vehicle to be hit in the right way for someone to become severely injured.

So use your head when dealing with a non-injury motor vehicle crash situation. It can be a very upsetting experience, so it may seem easy to just walk away, but it is important to evaluate the situation and see if it is necessary to call the police. To be extra cautious, it is a good idea to go ahead and call them and have a record of the incident in case it is needed in the future. <bio>Located in Toronto, Bergel, Magence has been handling cases of catastrophic personal injury, brain injury, slip and falls and wrongful death for many decades. http://www.bergellaw.com/ </bio>

It's bound to happen. Sooner or later, if you drive long enough, you're likely to have some sort of automobile accident. With luck, it will be minor. But irregardless, knowing how to handle an auto insurance claim can possibly save you thousands of dollars.

If you are involved in an accident, particularly in moderate to severe accidents, the first thing you need to do is contact the police. They will arrive quickly and help you sort out what happened, who may be at fault, and contact towing companies to remove your vehicle from the scene of the accident if necessary.

The second thing you should do is contact your insurance company. They will likely want the insurance information of the other driver. Get that information from the other driver if possible, but if they are angry or uncooperative, do not push them. They must give that info to the police, and your auto insurance company can get it that way if necessary in order to process your claim. It takes longer, but it can still be done. This also saves you from escalating an already stressful situation if the other driver is extremely agitated.

An auto insurance claim is simply a process by which you are covered in the event of an accident. If you were at fault in an accident, your insurance company will conduct an investigation, and pay for damages. This will likely result in an increase in your premium, or if you have had multiple accidents over the past few years, your insurance company may drop you completely. If another party was at fault for the accident, your insurance company will handle to process of handling the claim with the other drivers insurance company. Depending on the severity of damage to your vehicle, they will either issue you a check for the current market value of the vehicle, or they will provide you with information about where you can take your vehicle for repair.

The process of filing auto insurance claims is a very stressful one. However, one possible benefit to this unfortunate event is that you learn quite a bit about your insurance company in the process. It's very easy for companies to promise the world, until you actually need them. At this point, you have the opportunity to evaluate how they treat you as a paying customer. Are they responsive when you contact hem? Do they process your claim quickly? Do they get you back on the road with a repaired vehicle or a check in a timely manner? Do your rates go up? Do they drop you?

As difficult as it may be to go through, there is simply no better way then having to file an auto insurance claim, to find out if you are with the right company. Here's hoping you don't have to find this out for many, many years to come! <bio>Mike Long is a successful Webmaster and publisher of http://www.AutoInsuranceSuperguide.com - a website that specializes in providing auto insurance advice including easy ways of Understanding Automobile Insurance Coverage that you can research anywhere, anyplace, anytime.
