One of the most powerful techniques to build your online business is building an opt-in email list. Email is the most convenient way to contact people these days. Also if you are trying to promote a web site, then all of your prospective visitors should have access to email. To build an opt-in email list, you will have to obtain people's email addresses, which is not the easiest task to accomplish.

People are not too eager to give out their email addresses to just anyone. With spam at an all-time high, many people already receive many emails everyday that they do not want to receive. However if you give a person an incentive to give you their email address, then they will be more inclined to do so. Usually a nice gift, consisting of a product, a magazine subscription, an e-book, etc. is a nice incentive to get a person to give you their email address.

Another good way to build an opt-in email list is to create a series of emails like "7 Ways to Build an Opt-In Email List", and then send one email a day for a week. Then at the end of the week, you can send them an email that lets them know they have received a free subscription to your email list. After that you have two ways to allow them to accept or decline your invitation. You can tell them they are signed up for the newsletter, and give them the chance to opt-out, or you can tell them they have a chance to receive this email, and allow them to opt-in. Most of the time people will not opt-out of an email list, but they also might just send your email to the trash folder without reading it. With an opt-out email you will build a large email list, but the users might not be very responsive to your message. However, if the user has to opt-in to your email list, then you will receive fewer people on your list, but they will be more apt to listen to what you have to say. These users will be more likely to purchase your products as well! <bio>Jack Born is the creator of http://squeezepagemaker.com Squeeze Page Maker, a new push-button tool that creates unlimited squeeze pages at the push of a button, and nothing to download.
The easiest way to acquire an email list for your ezine or email marketing is just to buy one. They're not too expensive, and they provide you with a long list of names and email addresses.

But if there is one thing I've learned as the owner of an ezine, it is that the easy road is not always the one that brings you the best results. The problem with buying an email list is that none of the people on that list know who you are. When they receive an email from you, most likely they will just delete it without bothering to open it.

That is why it is so beneficial to build your own opt-in email list. Yes, creating a list from scratch is the more difficult and time-consuming solution, but at least it is a solution. Email lists rarely bring the desired results, so the money you spend on them might as well be flushed down the toilet.

Email marketing and ezine distribution isn't about blasting a bunch of strangers with sales pitches and information they don't want and didn't ask for. If you really want to achieve results with your email list, you need to build your own.

Here is a list of questions you need to ask yourself when building your email list:

Who is your target audience and what do you have to offer them? What kind of relationship do you want with the recipients of your emailings? What method or methods will you use to collect email addresses? Web forms, registration or subscription forms, trade shows, telephone contacts and sales calls are all viable ways to get the email addresses of people who will be interested in what you have to offer.

Will your emails come in the form of ads, newsletters, deals and specials, company announcements and press releases, or discussion lists?

Will you handle the creative aspects of your mailings, such as copywriting and editing, or will you need a little help? Once you're ready to start building your list, use outside lists to help you get started. You can recruit opt-in list members by renting an opt-in list to send out an announcement. You could also try taking out an ad in a targeted email newsletter or discussion list <bio>Mohamed Rabea - Build Your Own Adsense Empire For Free. http://www.webempirelive.com </bio>

Have a Mailing List of Your Own

No matter what type of email you send out, you'll need a mailing list. The basic way to build a mailing list is by capturing name and email address information for everyone who buys or shows interest in your product. This can be accomplished by using a list manager on your site. List managers also provide the HTML coding for the form on the Gateway pages. A list manager collects the email addresses that are gathered with the form. Thus, your email list is collected. This might take some time so there are methods to use until you get your own email list built.

Three ways to build a list

1. One way to build a mailing list is to do ad swaps with other list owners. The way this works is, you (as company A) have an email list that you send newsletters to and another list owner (company B) has a list they send newsletters to. Company A and Company B place ads on one another's mailing lists. Each of you is promoting the other's list.

2. You can rent or buy targeted email lists. The list you develop using your own customers' names is called your "house list." Of course, when you're first starting out, your house list is likely to be skimpy. To augment it, one way to go is rent or buy a mailing list. There are two ways to buy or rent a mailing list=97approaching the company you want to rent from directly or using a list broker. Any company that emails information to its customers usually has a list manager, who handles inquiries and orders for the mailing list.

3. Another way to build an email list is to list your newsletter in all of the ezine directories.

Conclusion.

A list manager collects the email addresses that are gathered with the forms. Thus, your email list is collected. An email list that YOU COLLECT YOURSELF is worth its weight in gold

All the best, Jos van Helvoirt <bio>Jos van Helvoirt is owner of The Dutch MoneyMaker, writes on a variety of subjects about homebusiness.
Email marketing is comprised of two major parts: the email itself and the email marketing list (also known as the contact list). This list is the very core of every email marketing campaign, as well as the reason why you are email marketing at all. Without this list of people, all who should have given you permission to email them, you have no reason whatsoever to indulge in email marketing to promote your business, goods or services. Here are three questions most email marketers must ask when they're just starting out:

Where can I get my email list?

Before I go into where you can get your list, it's better to discuss where you shouldn't get your list first. Buying, renting or scraping email addresses off the Internet are all terrible ideas. Why? Because those people haven't given you permission to email them. The quickest way to lampoon your email marketing campaign is to obtain a list that includes wrong email addresses and people who haven't given you permission. This results in spam complaints that will ultimately ruin your email marketing reputation.

There are many creative, effective ways to build an email list. Your first shot is putting a ListBuilder (also known as a sign-up box) on every single page of your Website. Site visitors can use this box to enter info and subscribe your email or newsletter. You can also build subscriptions by providing email address cards at your shop, tradeshows and other venues. If you are creative and ambitious about growing a permission-based email list, you can do these things and you'll see your list grow.

What should I do with that list once I have it?

Your next step is to segment your list, if possible. Try and divide up the names and email addresses on that list by product likes and dislikes, geographical location and other data. By doing this, you're dividing your list up and making it more targeted. Sending an email that canvasses everyone on your list may work, but you'll most likely have better luck sending different emails that promote the products certain customers have already show they're interested in.

How do I choose an email marketing service?

If you're not sure where to start, go online and find which service you like best. The best email marketing services have sophisticated list management systems that not only let you segment your list and upload it to the system, but store your lists online and access them 24/7. The advantage of a Web-based email marketing suite is that you can pay a low monthly fee to use the service and you can access it anywhere in the world, as long as you have Internet access. The best email marketing services also include reporting suites that can tell, in real time, just how successful your email marketing campaigns are with recipients.

As an email marketer, remember that email marketing requires lots of patience, planning and creativity. However, if you build a great list and manage it accordingly, you'll gain more sales and respect from your email or newsletter recipients. <bio>Gary San is a best practices activist and advocate for Benchmark Email ( http://www.benchmarkemail.com/email-marketing.aspx ), a leading Web and permission-based email marketing service. </bio>

If you're interested in getting involved in email marketing, you may not know where to begin. You know that email marketing is really taking off and is being used by some of the most successful marketing gurus and business owners around. But, you've likely never thought about how it could work to impact your life and your business. Take a look at these tips on how to build your home based business lead email list and get started!

One of the best ways to draw people into your email list is to have a "Join My List" button on your website. People who are interested in you or your products and services will use the sign-up box to get on your list. You can easily have this done with the use of an email marketing service. Or, you can maintain it yourself. It just makes sense for you to use the list sign-up button option since most people who want information about you will visit or search for your website. It can help you make great business contacts.

Another way to get people on your email list is to simply ask your clients, customers, or potential customers for their email addresses and permission to send them email. You can do this over the phone, in person or via email. Tell them about what you plan to email them and that they could benefit from your email communications. If you are a retail store with a store-front, you may want to think about putting a sign-up book in your store for those who visit you physically. If your business is conducted on the Web only, you can always send a follow-up email when someone orders, to ask them if they would mind if you put them on your email list. If you happen to have employees, be sure to make it very clear that getting email addresses of clients or customers is a vital part of their job.

Networking is a large part of business success. When you have great contacts, good things could come your way. Therefore, when you meet people at networking events or trade shows, it is important that you tell them about your free newsletters or email-only correspondence. If you offer email-only sales, you may want to mention that as well. They may be able to use your services or they may know someone who can use your services. Either way, you'll be adding to your email list. The more people you add, the better your chances of business success are!

Remember, when you first begin your email marketing campaign, your list will be small. You have to really make it a habit of asking for email addresses in order for your list to grow. Any opportunity you have to make your email list grow and thrive, do it. Train your employees to be on the constant search for people interested in signing up for your email correspondence. Take advantage of all meetings and business conferences by gathering email addresses for your list. Do everything you can to ensure you are getting the most out of your email marketing. <bio>Next Level Enterprises, LLC is a successful Internet marketer working with top leaders in the home business and Internet marketing industry.
One of the trickiest types of MLM leads is the MLM email lead. A MLM email lead is something that a person has to be very careful with because of the laws and regulations about SPAM.

SPAM is basically unsolicited junk email. If a person does not specifically sign up or ask to receive email from a source then the email sent from that source would be considered SPAM. SPAM is a lot like telemarketing calls; however, with SPAM there is no list you have to sign up for to be protected from it.

Most email providers and internet service providers are very strict about SPAM. If a person is found to be sending SPAM they will likely lose their email account and could even lose their internet service.

In order to get a legitimate MLM email lead a person has to collect them themselves. It is not wise to buy email leads because of the risk of them not being legitimate.

Collecting a MLM email lead can be simple. It can be done through putting up a form on the website for a request for more information or to sign up for a newsletter or free information.

When the people enter their name and email address then the marketer can then legally send them emails. Therefore, this is the best way to build an MLM email lead list.

Many times email marketing can be quite profitable. It is also very easy and a person is not spending any money on it, so it is well worth the try.

A MLM email lead is something every MLM marketer should try out. As mentioned, it is free and easy. The whole process is something that will take very little time or effort and could produce great results. There really is not anything to lose my giving a MLM email lead a try. <bio>Anna Hugi is a sole parent of three young boys. To be able to stay home with them she runs an online home based business.
Have you ever measured what response rate you get from your email campaigns? Didn't you notice that a small mailing list can give you a high response and a huge list can get a very, very low response rate? That is because it's not the number of emails on your list but the quality of the list that does really matter.

Although sending out magazines and newsletters to millions of addresses through bulk email software is free, you cannot afford to risk your fair name by offending people. Your email address lists should only contain those that signify they want to receive email from you. Otherwise, your unsolicited advertising will be classified as spam mail. Plus, the cleaner your list is, more profits you will get.

Here are some tips how to maintain your mailing list clean and up-to-date:

1. Verify your targeted email list for bad and undeliverable email addresses before you send to it. You can use email validation software to do a list check. You can just search the Internet for an email address verifier tool to choose the one that suits your needs best.

2. Exclude bad email addresses from your list.

3. Manage bounces thoroughly. Not all bounced emails should be deleted from your list. Delete hard bounces. Hard bounce is when recipient mail server rejects your email. Soft bounce is when your email accepted by recipient's mail server but bounced back because of reasons like mail box is full, your message is large than receiving mail server upper limit etc. Try to send the messages a few times to soft bounced email addresses before you delete them. There is chance that the message will be delivered after several attempts.

4. Use double opt-in subscription method. This way you can make sure that the email address is valid and that the subscriber really wants to receive mail from you.

5. Delete unsubscribers. Always provide an easy way to unsubscribe. Before sending an email campaign, do a search for people who unsubscribed and delete them from your database.

6. Provide an option for subscribers to change their email address. Some list management software or services provide a link to your subscriber details and lists he opted for. From there your subscribers can change their email addresses and update their profiles.

7. Don't buy email lists. Most email addresses on those lists are collected by website email extractors and belong to people who didn't hear about you and don't expect any mail from you.

8. Avoid spelling errors. If you manually import your subscribers from your old list manager to the new one or from your helpdesk to your mailing list manager etc, be careful to type the email addresses in the right way.

9. Try to avoid free email accounts. It's a little hard to do though because nowadays people often use a free email account like hotmail.com, yahoo.com although they have their own domains. This is because they don't want to reveal themselves or they might be afraid that the owner of the list might send junk or spam to them. <bio>Author is a technical expert associated with development of email marketing program: http://www.glocksoft.com/amlv/.
If you're a business owner and have heard anything about internet marketing, you've likely started your email list for your email correspondence. If you haven't taken the step toward building an email list, you need to start right away. Studies show email lists really connect with customers and bring them to your site. They help your potential clients build trust in you and your business, which will help you gain profits in the future as well. Use these tips to instantly gain more exposure and addresses for your business email list and you'll turn your moderately successful home business into a raging success.

Use The Space You Already Have

The bona fide easiest way to get people to sign up for your email list is to put a link on your website, blog and any other online pages you maintain or own. Something as simple as a "Sign up for my free newsletter" on a button will be successful. If you have articles on other people's websites, consider adding an ending line with a "Join My List" link on every article. Make sure the link points directly to your newsletter sign up page, to be most effective. You should enforce the point that the newsletter is free. Offering an incentive like a free report on business success is also a great way to draw people in. You may want to have monthly contests, to get people to sign up. You won't have to give away anything expensive. People will be happy to sign up for your free email list if you are giving them something for no-charge.

Another place you can easily sweep in email list address additions is in your daily emails. When you put a "Please Join My Free Email List" in your email signature, you will be automatically sending out an invitation to each and every person you email on a daily basis. This could be huge and requires almost no effort on your part. It's free advertising basically. You may want to say something like "If you'd like to hear more about (your business) and sales we have throughout the year, click here to sign up for our free newsletter". Or, you could offer coupons each week for those who subscribe.

Lastly, if you really want to drive the point home about your free email correspondence, you should put it in writing. Literally. Be sure you include information on how to sign up for your free email list on all printed material. You may want to include it on your business cards, any signs and on any printed advertisements.

You'll find that these email list building tips can help you run a successful home business, with very little effort from you. The more contacts you add to your email lists, the better your chances are of developing a larger client base. So take every opportunity you have to grow your email list. Easy changes to your website, email signature or printed materials can be quite effective when it comes to your internet email marketing campaign goals. <bio>Mark Stewart frequently writes on topics in the home business and Internet marketing industry.
Building an opt-in list is something that you may want to do if you own a web site. Of course, this is not necessary for every type of site, but there are many that would benefit greatly from having an opt-in list. Of course, this is not always easy to do; especially in today's day and age where spam is huge. But with that being said, you can begin to build your opt-in list with success if you put your mind to it. After all, you might as well give this a try. If you become a success you will notice that your email marketing campaign is in a much better position to succeed.

The first step to building an opt-in list is having an area on your website where you can get people to sign up. This is hard to do because there are conflicting opinions about where you should put this. As a general rule of thumb, you will want to give visitors the ability to sign up for your opt-in list on the home page. This is where they will start their search, and a home page placement gives you the best chance to capture their information. Make sure that you are not too much over the top when you are designing your opt-in list subscribe button. If you are, people are going to be immediately put off. You may also want to add a disclosure saying that you will not spam or sell email addresses. Something this small may help to grow your opt-in list larger than you ever thought possible.

So why would you want to build an opt-in list? This is a question that people struggle with all the time. The great thing about an opt-in list is that you will have information, such as names and email addresses, for people who are genuinely interested in whatever you have to offer. After all, if they have taken the time to sign up for your opt-in list they must be interested in what you are saying. In turn, you can then use this opt-in list in order to make sales. You should add it to your current email marketing campaign, and then take things from there. When it comes down to it, you have a much better chance of success with an opt-in list than most other ways of marketing. For instance, if you cold call people you may have some success, but you are not sure if they really want to hear from you. On the contrary, with an opt-in list you know that the recipient is interested in you and your products or service.

As you can see, building an opt-in list can help your business to thrive! <bio>Pasi Kaarakainen owns the website with resources of everything you'll ever need to start, run and grow a home based business.
Do you operate a home based business? Do you have an email list you've been building? If not, you really should think about creating one. An email list can do several things for businesses. For one thing, it can keep your clients and customers informed about the happenings of your business. Maybe you've got a sale coming up in a few months and want your customers to know about it. An email list would be an organized way to quickly send emails to everyone interested in your business. When you do decide to start your email list for your business, consider using these simple tips.

Incentives Can Get Email Addresses Fast

It seems that people are much more willing to hand over their email addresses when there is an incentive involved. If you offer an incentive for people signing up for your email, you will likely get more people to sign on. Everyone loves to get something for free, or to get a chance to win a nice prize. Of course, you don't have to give away something expensive like a car. You can offer a simple article on the secrets of your business, or something completely cost-free and people will still get excited. Anything you can give away for free will help you pull in email addresses.

Bring Your Friends Along

You may want to offer something to those who refer others to your email list as well. You can explain in a newsletter that if they will forward your newsletter to someone they know, you will allow them to be entered into a prize winning contest. If you use an email marketing service to maintain your newsletters, you should easily be able to see who forwards the letter and who doesn't. When the friends receive the forwarded newsletter, they too might become interested in getting your newsletter and your list will grow instantly.

Teaming Up Is A Good Idea

There are many businesses that are correlated to your business, but that would not be considered a competitor of yours. If you can contact one of these businesses that are somehow related to yours, you can work together on email marketing. You can use each other's customer lists to reach more people, without seeming pushy about it. You can work this in several ways. One way is to feature your partner's business in your newsletter and ask them to do the same thing for your business. Or, you can ask your readers to join the list of the other business. If you want to be subtle about it, simply put a link to their website in each of your newsletters and allow your readers to do the searching.

Remember, if you are running a home based small business, it is essential that you find a way to reach your potential clients. Creating an email list is a great way to reach potential customers or a fine way to get repeat business from those who've already purchased a product or service from you. <bio>Dustin Cannon, of Next Level Enterprises, LLC is a successful Internet marketer working with top leaders in the home business and Internet marketing industry.
If you have looked into email marketing, you have probably come across an email marketing agency or two. You may have even encountered the concept of email broadcast software and mailing list lead generation. But, if you are unfamiliar with the inner working of these strategies, they can seem very confusing. In this article, we'll take a look at each to determine how they work and how they can help grow your business.

Email Marketing Agencies An email marketing agency can help you to design a direct email marketing campaign to promote your business and increase your sales. Though each agency works differently, most offer advice on mailing list lead generation, introductory emails, email design, email list management, sales promotions, and database marketing. If you need extra help, you be able to find an email marketing agency that can offer you email broadcast software to help you build, send, and track emails.

If you are unfamiliar with building campaigns and email strategies, an agency can offer you the information you need to become an expert on the subject. Most agencies will also provide you with marketing tips to help drive readers to your website and get them to opt-in to your email list.

The price you pay for these types of services can vary significantly. Unfortunately, so can the results. If you are thinking about hiring an email marketing agency, be sure to check their credentials, and ask plenty of questions about how their process works. You may also want to question why the agency stands out among their competitors. If they can't provide you with a good answer, consider contacting another email marketing agency that can offer you more.

Email Broadcasting Software All companies should have the ability to communicate with their customers efficiently and effectively. Using email broadcasting software can make this a whole lot easier. With software, you can bring your email marketing management in house. This ensures that your email list won't get into the wrong hands, and you will not have to worry about unexpected and unfounded surcharges. Software can be used for newsletter distribution, email marketing, promotions, and much more.

Good email broadcasting software has mailing list creation and editing, email message composition tools, and professional email broadcast. Great email broadcasting software has everything mentioned in the previous sentence, plus data-processing tools, link and email tracking, a bounce-back pickup system, mailing list lead theft protection, an integrated sign-up page, and a double opt-in option.

Mailing List Lead Generation If an email marketing agency or email broadcasting software won't bring you the leads you need, you can look into the many companies who offer mailing list lead generation. These companies can provide you with qualified leads that you can use to find new customers. However, you will want to be very careful. It is important to get leads suited to your business. If you can't turn the leads into customers, any work or money that you have spent will turn out to be a waste. <bio>Cliff Posey, owner of CRP Marketing, owns and operates http://webbusinesstoolsonline.com.
I am writing this article with no background whatsoever in its topic. I really have no idea what an email search really is and so in the next few paragraphs I will consider what I can be as well as the utility of such a thing.

Email search... ...well I guess it could be a new computer users search for the ever elusive email account of their own. But then again this person would literally have to be senseless because everyone and their brother is bombarded with offers for free email accounts from all manner of connections including your magazine subscription, your church, your school, your favorite restaurant etc. So if it is really someone looking for an inbox of there own it is more a "weed-out" than a search because you will do more turning down of offers than searching them out.

So what else could it be? Well here maybe is a more legitimate possibility, especially as the computer age completely overtakes us. Rather than doing a snail mail address search, or a phone number search, maybe an email search is the hunt that we all do when we want to contact somebody but don't know how. I know for a fact that I find email way more convenient to use as a line of communication than the other two aforementioned modes and so if I wanted to make a connection with someone for some reason or other I may just get on the internet and look for a way to find their email address. In fact I have done this many a time when searching for a way to get a hold of a classmate or a professor on my school's web page.

An email search could also be an effort to locate talent, or a long lost or newly discovered relative, over the email. It could be the search for a lost email that wound up not getting to its intended recipient, it could be investigative work that is looking high an low for an email that contains something really incriminating. It could be a hunt for a list of potential customers for a certain product that will allow the salesman to carry out an email campaign to this list of a targeted audience so that he can increase his sales ratio. Couldn't it?

Well I am glad that this email search article is coming to a close because I am not sure that I could come up with any more possibilities for this elusive concept. And so with not really any sadness at all I will now give up and bring these sorry paragraphs to a close. <bio>Hallidae Thomason works as a freelancer on the internet and contrary to what you may believe has conducted many an email search of her own looking for material.
Many online businesses are using email marketing lists to send ads and other promotional materials to people in an effort to generate traffic and sales. This opt in email marketing can come in the form of newsletters, updates and special discounts as well as software upgrades announcements. This is a chance for website owners to keep in touch with those on their email marketing list and to hopefully gain new and repeat customers.

By submitting an email address, a web site visitor agrees join an email marketing list and to receive updates and other promotional information from the website. Use only opt in email addresses for your marketing campaign. There are many legitimate email suppliers out there but with any email marketing list that you purchase, be sure that the addresses also include full name, IP and date stamp in case you need proof.

Using email marketing lists, companies can send their promotional materials in a number of different formats from plain text, to pages complete with animated full color graphics. Each business has their own unique layout design, but more important than the style, is the content. Email content is what grabs the attention of potential customers subscribing to an email marketing list. So what is essential when sending promotional materials to your email marketing list and what keeps subscribers interested?

Preparing Your Email Marketing List

Keep your promotional materials light, creative and original. Most people on your email marketing list don't have the time or interest in reading a stuffy emails filled with technical information. So keep it light and friendly. Short is better than long but if necessary divide your promotional email into several short articles. Taking in several smaller bits of information is easier to digest than one long run on article.

Your email promotional materials should be clear and informative but not overly technical and should appeal to a wide range of people. In creating an opt in email marketing campaign, well written content and articles are important, Effective copy should outline the benefits of your product or service and why those on your email marketing list need what you are offering. This is where a professional copy writer can come in. They can write content that builds trust between your company and your customers.

Add photos and color in your marketing materials. Provide clear and crisp images of what you have to offer subscribers to your email marketing list. An image might be just the thing to get a reader to click through to your site for more information.

Email your promotional information or newsletters from Tuesday to Thursday. On Mondays people are usually busy with getting back to work and on Fridays they are just too busy looking forward to the weekend. So an informative and light email arriving in the middle of the week might be a pleasant little break. <bio>Kirk Smith is an expert author on SEO, Affiliate and Internet Marketing.
It's been almost three and a half years since the U. S. CAN-SPAM act went into effect, and though it didn't help to stem the flow of spam into our inboxes every day, you still have to follow the law.

"I'm just a one-person operation," you may be thinking. But even so, even if you're just starting out with list building, you have to remember that your'e still liable. One spam complaint could shut you down or worse. Though you're probably protected if you use an online autoresponder service, if you're handling mail on your own, there are some things you need to be aware of.

Here are some important parts of the law:

* No false or misleading email headers. The "To" and "From" lines must be accurate, and you must provide accurate routing information. That should include the location of your domain and your proper email address, and it must identify the person sending the email.

* No misleading subject lines. For instance, you can't write to people saying the message is from their doctor when you're trying to sell them Viagra. It happens all the time. Those messages are illegal.

* People must be given a way to opt out of the list, and provide a return email address. When someone does opt out, you have to honor their request.

Whatever opt out method you choose, it must be active for 30 days, at least. You only have 10 business days to get people who have requested to be removed off the list.

* You have to identify your message as an advertisement and include your snail mail address, too.

Those are the general rules. But there are a couple of other things to consider. Never, ever buy lists of email addresses. Harvesting of addresses is also illegal, so don't do it. Set up a proper list building page that sends your subscribers' names and email addresses to an autoresponder that automatically confirms subscriptions. This "double opt-in" process is just safer. Nothing in the law says you have to do this, but it just makes things safer.

Always include a link in your email where people can opt out, and show that's what it's for. Usually, when you use an online autoresponder service, this is handled for you. Just be sure. And if you're using your own software, be sure you're in compliance. If you're not and you're accused of spamming, you could receive an $11,000 fine and/or be sent to prison. Is it worth it?

Definitely not. <bio>Tellman Knudson is CEO of http://OvercomeEverything.com.
Now you know that you need a list and have started to build one. The next step is to build the relationship that will make the list profitable. Below are 9 tips to help you get that process started.

1. Unsubscribes are good. The only way that you will not get unsubscribes to your list is to never send to them. Not everyone will like your personality or writing style. Those that don't will never follow your recommendations so it is not a great loss when they unsubscribe.

2. Be yourself. Let your personality come through to your list. People will buy from you because they trust you. Try to be something you are not and it will come through to your list and you will never develop that trust.

3. Be informative. Make sure that you are supplying quality information to your list. Even if you are presenting a product for sale make sure that you are also supplying information. Create the problem and your product as a solution but also let your subscribers learn something about the topic even if they aren't interested in the product.

4. Stay on topic. If your list is about desserts that should be the topic of your email. Now don't send marketing tips to your dessert list or desserts to your marketing tips list. Yes, there may be a few that have interests in both (I am one and have both types of lists), but the person signed up for a specific topic and you are violating that trust you have worked so hard to create.

5. Only send one item per email unless it is a newsletter. Sending multiple items to your list can be extremely confusing to them and never get you the action you are looking to get. Make sure that you have a call to action in every email. Never leave your subscriber wondering what you wanted them to do.

6. Always have a reason This tends to go with number 5. Make sure that there is a reason for the email that you sent. If you have a purpose then people will tend to keep reading. If they have no idea what your reason is for your email then they will quickly stop reading all of your emails.

7. Track what works. Tracking is the only way you will know which of your emails works and which don't. This will allow you to improve your emails to your list. Do remember that the only purpose of your email is to create the click through to a sales page. If it does that it is successful whether you sell a product or not. The sale of the product is dependent on the sales page.

8. Use contact information. You are building a relationship and that is based on trust. Let people know who you are and how to reach you.

9. Be responsive. If you receive an email from a subscriber answer it. That goes a long way to building the trust that is necessary to create a customer. People buy from those that they trust.

These tips will go a long way towards helping you to build the relationship that is necessary to build a profitable list. <bio>Mike Paetzold is the co author of Opt In Master Course (http://optinmastercourse.com/mikepaetzold.html) and specializes in helping people build a profitable list. </bio>

The other day, I was giving a workshop entitled Modern Marketing in Action and I was giving the students a number of tips to help them build a massive email list. One of the students asked me why anyone would want to do such a thing. He gets all kinds of spam email and has learned to hate the offending companies as a result. In fact, I suspect he subscribed to these various lists one way or another and just didn't realize it at the time. Nevertheless, he makes a good point and it's always good to begin the process by understanding the underlying motivations.

There are many reasons to develop an opt-in email list but this article will focus on just three. And let me say before we begin that if you have a website that gets a lot of traffic and you're NOT accumulating email addresses, you're making a big mistake. You're throwing real money right down the drain and I hope the following paragraphs will help explain why.

The internet is a fascinating place. People can visit your site from any corner of the globe and in most cases, you may never know they were there. Yes, there are traffic monitors and analytics platforms that can give you a lot of information about your websites visitors but the fact remains that you never SAW the visitor, you never shook hands, you never said hello. This lies in stark contrast to the corner stores of yesteryear. Building an email list is an effective way to quantify your audience and know who you're speaking to. So quantifying your audience is the first reason.

The second reason is to build a massive email list is to have a way of contacting these people in the future when you've expanded your product or service offering. These are people who found you all on their own. They are watching you, whether you like it or not. And if you have a new product you're introducing, they will have some natural interest in hearing about it. More importantly, you can contact these people and sell them products with absolutely zero marketing expense.

The third reason to accumulate email address is that it actually contributes real value to your business. In other words, if you sold your business one day and you had a large opt-in email list of customers, you would get more money for your business. Everybody knows these email lists represent a way of selling products with zero marketing expense and that means the company's profitability benefits by having the list. If you want to maximize the value of your business, you're well advised to start building an email list today.

As a business owner, there's always something else you have to do. It seems like your job is never over. And the task of building an email list is just one more thing you have to think about. But believe me; this task can contribute far more to your business than most others. The best approach is to integrate the task into your regular business. Find a way of accumulating email addresses without having to create a separate process. And after a while, you'll end up with a real asset on your hands =96 one that can be tapped or sold at any time. Nothing wrong with that! <bio>Tactical Execution with Patrick Schwerdtfeger (http://www.tacticalexecution.com) is a strategic company focused on growth marketing and program implementation across business markets. </bio>

Email marketing is a powerful technology that can bring in sales and improve your online presence. Unfortunately, it also leaves lots of room for abuse. In order to avoid getting marked as a spammer and exiled to the bulk email file, follow these five important rules when crafting and sending an email marketing campaign:

Say no to Spam

Spam is any unsolicited commercial email. Sending spam is illegal and the Federal CAN-SPAM act dictates that if you violate federal laws and send spam, you may face jail time or heavy fines. If you're not sure if you're sending spam, ask yourself the following questions. Where did your list come from? If you bought it, rented it, or simply scraped email addresses off Websites, it is a spam list. Have your recipients given permission for you to send them emails? If they haven't you are acting as a spammer.

Collect email addresses in a responsible manner

If you need to build a permission-based email list, build one and grow it on your own. You can do this by putting a List Builder or sign-up box on your Website. You can offer people gifts if they sign up for your email or newsletters. You can solicit emails from customers at trade shows, sales and other special events. Never buy or rent a list or scrape email addresses of Websites. If you do, you'll be marked as a spammer before you can even say CAN-SPAM Act.

Make it easy for customers to contact you

When you send out customer emails, make absolutely certain that their replies go to an email box you check frequently. Also, at the bottom of every single email or HTML newsletter you send, make sure to include your contact info as well as your company's email address. Think of your email or newsletter as the first contact in your overall sales campaign. If you want customers to open their wallets and buy your products, make certain they have an easy way to reach you so you can answer their questions.

Always include a link to your website

Always include a link to your Website in your emails. Some email marketers forget this very basic concept and end up sending an email marketing campaign with no link back to their Website. Don't make this mistake. Make it easy for customers to come back to your site and view your products or services.

Write honest, crisp email copy

Think hard about what you want your email to say and write it accordingly. Remember that one of the best ways to build customer trust is to tell the truth in your copy. Don't promise something you can't deliver, just be honest about what you're selling and offering. Also, make your email marketing copy crisp and clean. Email marketing copy should be easy and interesting to read. If you throw together some copy and it's too long or not compelling, customers will open your email, skim it, and dump it in their online trash can. The key is not only to get customers to open your email campaigns, but take the time to read what you have to say and eventually buy something. <bio>Gary San is a best practices activist and advocate for Benchmark Email ( http://www.benchmarkemail.com/email-marketing.aspx), a leading Web and permission-based email marketing service. </bio>

If you run a business online you know how important it is to use email when you do your advertising and marketing campaigns. This is one of the most popular ways of reaching customers online. Those who engage in it know full well how vital it is to their marketing efforts. By engaging in email marketing, they know that email can catapult their sales through the roof.

The thing about this is it doesn't matter whether you are a small or large business, you have access to email. Therefore you should use it as a means of marketing to your customers. Do you have a website? If you do, are you collecting email addresses from your visitors? The best way to market online using email as the advertising medium is by placing a form on your website that collects each visitor's name and email address. When the person fills in the form, you have recorded the information so you can make contact in the future when you have something of interest to share.

There is one catch to this though. Email marketing is one of the best known ways to market your products to the masses, but it does have its drawbacks. As you probably know, spam is a problem that will not go away. The government is trying to curb it, but that effort will not last long, because spammers know how to get around the system. So in order for companies to get around this problem, they use what is known as opt-in email.

Opt-in email works for the benefit of both you and your visitor. When your visitor comes to your site and sees your offer, there will be a request for his or her name and email address. That person signs up for your offer. The user then gets an email from you asking for verification of the email address that was provided. The email states clearly the person is willing to accept offers by email. Once they click on that link or reply to verify the address, your system records that information and that's it. Since the user did agree to receive future mailings from you it is not considered spam.

As for the system that is used, most companies prefer to use a third-party list service. This type of company handles all of the collecting and sending of email, leaving you free to take care of growing your business. Using a list service may cost you money, but with all of the email notifications and rejections that may come your way, it can be well worth it.

Opt-in email is a viable method to make money online. People who use the system properly make a lot of money with it. So opt-in email does work. <bio>Scott Lindsay is a web developer and entrepreneur. If you spend some time, energy and money building a good list, though, it can be very lucrative. Here are 11 ways to build your email list.

Use a DHTML popup on your website DHTML popups are a great way to solicit signups to your newsletter -- they grab your site visitorss attention, but are not as aggravating as standard popups.

Use an opt-in on orders Give your customers an option to opt-in to your newsletter during the order checkout process.

Sponsor a give-away Give away a piece of your merchandise -- to enter to win the freebie, people must subscribe to your newsletter.

Do joint ventures Form joint ventures with other related websites. Place signp boxes to each other's newsletters on your thank you pages. Joint ventures can be a great way to grow your list with targetted subscribers.

Add phone in orders When taking orders over the phone, ask customers if they would like to be added to your e-newsletter.

Give away free stuff on your website Give away free reports, free e-books or other goodies in exchange for people signing up for your e-newsletter.

Put a signup form on every page of your site Integrate your newsletter signup form into your site template so that visitors can signup for your newsletter on any page of your site.

Use offline marketing methods Add the option to signup for your e-newsletter on all of your offline marketing materials, such as order forms, postcards, etc.

Rent lists Rent email lists to promote your site and your email newsletter.

Use opt-in services Purchase opt-in subscribers to your newsletter. I would suggest double opting them in to ensure that they really want to receive your emails.

Article marketing Promote your newsletter in your article resource boxes then submit your articles to article sites. <bio>Grow your business with Email Marketing. http://www.datadial.net/pages/email-marketing.aspx </bio>
