The asthma diagnosis comes from a series of tests. In many cases, a doctor will be able to determine if a patient has asthma and diagnose them right on the spot. In these cases, the diagnosis will be determined by the patient's pre history. The doctor will look at the patient's history of illness as well as his family history to determine if the symptoms and signs there are likely to be that of asthma. In addition, most doctors will use a simple examination to confirm their diagnosis of the asthma condition.

When an adult is to be diagnosed with asthma, the doctor may take some measurements of his airways. In asthma, the airways will constrict tightly, not allowing enough air to pass through them. This is a test that offers diagnosis of the condition, but can not be done on children. The doctor will use what is called a peak flow meter to help test and then diagnosis the adult asthma patient. In addition to it using an inhaler to test the benefits it offers to the potential asthma patient. For children to be diagnosed with asthma, the doctor will look at his medical history. Then, to insure that the patient does have asthma, he or she will monitor the child's response to various inhalers using bronchodilator medications.

In many cases, a doctor will diagnosis asthma within a matter of minutes due simple to the conditions that the patient is facing. Those that are facing asthma symptoms will usually be able to be diagnosed based on the conditions in which they face asthma like reactions. Doctors often can diagnosis a patient within a matter of minutes just by knowing the various factors that cause the body to react. In these cases, the final test comes from testing medications on the potential asthma sufferer to see if they do in fact relieve the condition. <bio>Roger Thomson writes about asthma, health related issues and jobs for http://www.idohealthcare.com </bio>

The process referred to as dual diagnosis is one that describes people that have been diagnosed with a mental illness in addition to a chemical dependency of some sort. The presence of a chemical dependency makes it extremely difficult to treat mental illness, and vice versa. Thus dual diagnosis is more intensive than ordinary chemical dependency or brain related treatment.

Though it all looks scary, it is actually not as serious as it sounds, and dual diagnosis is usually effective. Studies have shown that at least half of the population that are victims of any sort of addiction also suffer from mental illness, and there is a high probability that mentally ill folks will eventually become drug addicts. This show clearly that the two regularly go together.

The reason for this is not far fetched: People suffering from anxiety disorder usually don't realize it on time until they become addicted to sedatives and alcohol, which can be a lifelong habit, because they just seem to make such people feel better or normal. Foe instance, depressed people often find medications that play on serotonin to make them feel better. Self medication is often the reason why both conditions are linked, and a greater part of dual diagnosis treatment is focused on this cause and effect relationship.

Fortunately, almost any drug treatment program or mental illness treatment worth its salt is fully informed about this relationship, and dual diagnosis treatment can be administered by the two treatment programs. thus if you or a loved one find yourselves in a treatment program that does not provide any form of dual diagnosis treatment, you should quit immediately.

Often, one of your conditions is designated as a primary one that needs to be treated first. In most cases, it is usually the addiction, but there are occasions when more serious forms of mental illness will need to be the priority. Thus, the initial stage of dual diagnosis treatment is the determination of the nature of patient's mental illness, and the extent of the addiction.

Some treatment programs have gained high renown for their dual diagnosis treatment, and have thus specialized on this and make it their niche. if you are a dual diagnosis patient and it is within your power to make decision, ensure you go for such programs. there are also many support groups and therapists that are experts on dual diagnosis treatment.

Never let your dual diagnosis status worry you and deter you from seeking treatment. You must realize that most addicts are dual diagnosis patients but are not aware of it. And you won't believe this; being a dual diagnosis patient can be beneficial, for example, if due to anxiety disorder, you started drinking, when you treat the disorder, the addiction will also be cured. A case of getting two for the price of one you say. <bio>By Jenny Riley http://www.body-and-mental-health.com http://www.body-and-health-magazine.com </bio>

It has been stated that one in three people will develop a form of Cancer at some point within their lives, making it one of the most prolific diseases that we are now seeing. Due to this doctors have to be highly aware of the possibility of Cancer when making a diagnosis.

The importance of an early diagnosis when it comes to Cancer cannot be emphasised enough; in many cases an early diagnosis is the difference between life and death. An early diagnosis is also the deciding factor on your life expectancy. Early diagnosis is crucial regardless of what type of Cancer you have; this is especially true in the case of lung, ovarian and stomach Cancer as they have a much lower mortality rate if they receive a prompt diagnosis.

Sadly some people aren't treated as early as they should be. There are many reasons for this such as a patient didn't think anything of their symptoms and dismissed them as something else so they didn't bother going and seeing their doctor. Also many people go to their doctor with symptoms but these symptoms are similar to another disease with the same symptoms so they could easily be dismissed. All of these are common human error but it is important that a doctor goes down all avenues when they are diagnosing you.

An example of why it is so important to catch any form of cancer early is people who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the earliest stage they have a 92% to 93% of a five year survival but this can quickly be reduced to 11% or 12% if the cancer has seriously advanced.

An example of when a diagnosis goes beyond simple human error is if a smoker goes to see a doctor with a cough and the doctor merely puts it down to the fact that they smoke. This is completely unacceptable as a cough is one symptom of lung cancer. In a case such as this the doctor should have examined the matter further and investigated the possibility of lung cancer, if for nothing else than to rule it out.

There are many different types of cancer so in order to make an accurate diagnosis you need a medical professional to correctly interpret your symptoms and by looking at your test results thoroughly. Failure to accurately diagnose allows the cancer to spread and grow, which can be at an alarming rate depending on where the cancer is and how advanced or aggressive it is.

If a cancer diagnosis is failed to be made then your correct treatment will be delayed, which will increase your chance of dying from the disease; however this problem can also be turned around, which basically means that if a doctor makes a diagnosis of cancer and there is no cancer present then this can cause a person a lot of unnecessary emotional suffering and shock and it may even lead to them receiving the incorrect treatment. Any situation such as this will be viewed as a form of medical negligence.

If you feel that you have suffered from medical negligence in the past three years due to actions that were taken or actions that were failed to be taken when it comes to your Cancer diagnosis then you could be entitled to make a claim for compensation.

Thousands of men and women across the UK have already claimed the compensation that they deserve after being involved in some form of a medical negligence claim, now it's your turn so get in touch with a legal team today to find out where you stand with making a claim for compensation.<bio>Helen is the web master of Accident Consult, specialists in all aspects of Medical Negligence Compensation Claims. </bio>

If you're child has received an autism diagnosis, you may feel like all of the hopes and dreams you had for your child's future have ended. These feelings of guilt, grief and fear are normal for parents when they first discover their child is autistic. However, you need to know that you're not alone and there is help out there for both you and your child.

To help you cope with the autism diagnosis, the following are 10 guidelines for you to take into consideration:

1.Don't Panic -- Feeling overwhelmed is natural at first, but this drowning feeling will pass. You need to remember autism - although a challenging condition - is not a life threatening illness. Autism isn't the end of the world; take the time to calm down and rationally think things through.

2.Your child is still the same -- An autism diagnosis doesn't mean your child is any different than he/she was prior to your knowledge of his/her condition. A diagnosis has only provided you with the chance to better understand your child, so you can provide him/her with the support that will allow him/her to have the best life. The love you have for your child and all the good you see in him or her will remain their forever. No diagnosis can change that.

3.Educate yourself -- Find out everything there is to know about autism. You can find information in books and articles in your local library, bookstore and online. The internet is a fantastic resource for autism.

4.Ask questions -- don't forget to address any questions or concerns you may have with your doctor.

5.Find out what your child needs -- Depending on the type of autism diagnosis your child receives he/she may have many or few special needs. Carefully analyze your child's behaviors and discuss them with your doctor to determine the best course of action for treating the issue. For instance, does your child have sensory problems? Speech delays? Social deficits? Etc.

6.Find out what is available -- Just because you discover what your child needs, doesn't mean you'll have immediate access to the therapies required, or even know how to work them into your lifestyle if they are available. . You also need to find out if your medial insurance will cover any of the therapies your child will need. Once you have everything sorted out, you can begin to set up a program that can meet your needs.

7.Stick to basic therapies -- When you research therapies, you will discover that there are numerous treatments. Instead of becoming overwhelmed, focus on the basic therapies that are readily available, appropriate to your child, and funded. The basics usually include speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. There may also be therapies offered within schools.

8.Introduce treatment slowly -- Remember, most therapies are a slow process that take weeks or even months until you begin to see a difference in your child. Therefore, try not to introduce too many therapies after the autism diagnosis. When you take it slow you are able to observe how your child responds to each, and determine what is successful and what isn't.

9.Relax -- The wellbeing of your child is important, but so is yours and the rest of your family. It's imperative that you find ways to relieve your stress, take breaks, and enjoy your own life. You will be able to better care for your autistic child when you are well rested.

10.You're not alone -- There are many autism support groups you can join both locally and online after receiving an autism diagnosis. Talking to other parents with autistic children, and hearing and sharing your experiences can be very helpful and therapeutic to you and your child. <bio>By Rachel Evans.
Differential GERD diagnosis secrets shine the light on misdiagnosing GERD. Listen up. Large surveys have shown that about half of the general population has monthly heartburn or regurgitation. What that means is that GERD is likely the most common gastrointestinal disease seen in primary care. GERD can be very painful and is debilitating in severe cases. What happens is that the lower esophageal muscle or sphincter opens the wrong way allowing gastric acids to back flow up the esophagus. Unlike the stomach, the esophagus has no defense against gastric acids.

This is hard to believe, but most GERD patients wait one to three years before consulting a physician.

Folks, this is a very treatable disease.

Differential Diagnosis of GERD

A differential diagnosis of GERD occurs when a physician misdiagnoses the condition. Put differently they assure the patient that they have a problem other than GERD when actually GERD is the imminent problem. This is a common happening, as the symptoms of GERD are so wide spread that they link up to a myriad of other health circumstances as well.

Pay close attention to what I am about to tell you. A differential diagnosis of GERD can be life threatening, particularly if the condition is already quite severe in the first place. Not only will the patient have to cope with the anguish of the disease but also it can in reality cause an attack of various other diseases.

When to Call the Physician

Let's face it, it is absolutely critical to get assistance for a condition such as GERD as soon as you can, and so if you ever start feeling any of the symptoms of GERD, such as:

* Asthma * Trouble swallowing * Chronic dry cough * Heartburn * Dyspepsia * Chest pain * Nausea * Hiccups * Regurgitation * Dysphagia * Hoarseness

This is when you call the physician. Don't wait for three years to do this. Your health is crucial to your well being.

Likewise make certain that you don't experience a differential diagnosis of GERD, and lets face it a differential diagnosis of GERD can go in either direction.

Mistakes

Either you may be assured that you have GERD while you actually don't, or you may have GERD and your physician might suppose that you have different health conditions. They are human. They make mistakes. In order to make certain that you get an appropriate diagnosis, you'll need to do a lot of exploring on one's own. Naturally your physician is a medical professional and generally knows his Ps from his Qs, but anyone can make a mistake and misdiagnosis can be the result.

Diary

Keep a diary. List the different conditions and symptoms under which GERD occurs. Make sure that you check the list to determine whether there is improvement or a decline in the conditions or symptoms that you are experiencing. Then, it is possible to ascertain whether the diagnosis you are receiving is a misdiagnosis or not. Differential GERD diagnosis secrets should be no secret when GERD is involved. Take appropriate action by working with your physician to achieve the best treatment possible to get you back on your feet. <bio>Alan Dicalux is a researcher/writer who has been involved with acid reflux and studied its effects for many years.
When most people think of endometriosis, they think of the type that happens to impair fertility. This type is usually in the reproductive system. What many don't know is that some of these women also have intestinal endometriosis.

This is when endometriosis implants grow on the outside, and sometimes on the inside, of the bowel. In many cases, these women might be diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome or another related condition, when they in fact have wide spread problems with endometriosis. In some cases, this can even be found as high as the small intestine.

If a woman is told that she has IBS, and she also has endometriosis, she may be getting the wrong diagnosis. If the IBS-like symptoms (bloating, gas, cramps, diarrhea) seem to only happen when a women is having her period, the IBS diagnosis might be wrong. There may also be bleeding from the rectum, during a woman's cycle, and that is another sign that the endometriosis might be in the intestines as well as in the reproductive system. Along with those signs, there may be long periods of painful constipation.

Because this problem does mimic IBS, it can be hard to diagnosis. Only a smaller percentage of women with reproductive endometriosis will have it, so it is often not the first thing a physician will think of when a women mentions her symptoms.

IBS is known to flare up when a woman has her period, so that helps lead to the wrong diagnosis. There are times when ultrasound will not show intestinal endometriosis, so many doctors will miss it. It will become more obvious that the IBS diagnosis is not right when blockage of the intestines occurs or when the growth becomes so pronounced that it can finally be found.

Most women with intestinal endometriosis will not have to worry about blockage occurring, but it can happen. Only about one percent will ever have that problem. With or without blockage, this is quite a trying condition for anyone who has it and can be quite hard to live with before the proper diagnosis can be made.

Quite often there is intense pain around the time of menstruation that can leave women feeling incapacitated. The bloating, cramps, and pain are quite pronounced, but it is not just contained to the reproductive area. Once the proper diagnosis can be made, there are many things that can be done to treat it.

Treatment can include pain medications, and hormone therapy. A laparoscopy may be performed with this type of endometriosis, just as it is with reproductive-related endometriosis. This is a simple surgery that will find and remove the growth (for biopsy), and it can sometimes be done through the belly button to minimize incision and recovery time.

Though treatment will offer some relief, and a patient may feel good for many years, intestinal endometriosis is likely to recur again. When this happens, hormone therapy and a laparoscopy will probably be needed again. In the unlikely case of a bowel obstruction, that obstruction must be removed immediately so the bowels can resume normal function.
The first and foremost part in the treatment of ovarian cysts is the correct diagnosis of ovarian cysts. No cure is possible until and unless there the right diagnosis. It is true that if you overlook the warning signals or symptoms then the diagnosis of the ovarian cysts can be really difficult. And in some cases there tends to very few or even none of the usual symptoms apparently available. However, very subtle symptoms can be found. And you yourself can definitely diagnose your own condition through different ways that are available. But you first need to understand the different techniques in order to accurately understand your condition.

The need for diagnosis

The correct diagnosis is the first step taken towards the treatment of ovarian cysts. Diagnosis helps in selecting the right course of treatment as well. Sometimes in the absence of the right diagnosis even some cases of manageable cases of ovarian cysts have turned complicated and dangerous. In absence of diagnosis sometimes women tend to turn to home made remedies which do nothing but delay the actual treatment and further complicate the case. More so since no uniform treatment has yet been found for all the various form of ovarian cysts, a wrong treatment can really be very dangerous. The right diagnosis is really the most important thing in case of a ovarian cyst.

Self-diagnosis

Diagnosing ovarian cysts medically can be lot easier if a woman understands the symptoms herself first. In such cases it is possible to start treatment right at the initial stages. There are lot of common symptoms that can help a woman to understand if she might be suffering from this particular condition before she decides to go to a medical practitioner.

(1) Irregular menstruation: In most cases of ovarian cysts women suffer from irregular menstruation conditions. They tend to miss months at a stretch or they might have months of very less flow or too heavy in fact.

(2) Pain in the pelvic area: In many cases women tend to feel a continuous severe kind of pain in their pelvic area without any apparent reason. This can be a sign of the presence of the ovarian cyst condition.

(3) Infertility: temporary infertility and repeated miscarriages can be a sign of ovarian cysts.

(4) Change in the structure of the body: Ovarian cysts sometimes affect the hormonal balance of the body. In such cases the woman might start looking less feminine or start gaining a lot of weight suddenly.

(5) Sudden appearance of facial hair, hoarseness of voice is also a symptom of ovarian cysts.
(6) Pressure on bladder: Ovarian cysts can cause a pressure on the bladder which might lead to frequent urination or the urge to urinate frequently or other related problems.

(7) Miscellaneous symptoms: Some other symptoms include breast tenderness, nausea, and vomiting, severe pain during sexual intercourse, dizziness, weakness, pain and cramps, acne problems and many more related problems.

Sometimes it becomes very difficult to self diagnosis the condition. As has been mentioned earlier sometimes there is simply no apparent symptoms available to suggest the presence of the condition. In such cases the condition becomes apparent only during regular ultra sound examinations or pelvic examination of the patient. The diagnosis should definitely be confirmed scientifically. Symptoms might also vary from one case to another, but anything abnormal related to gynecological health should always be checked out with a medical practitioner.

Steps after diagnosis

Once diagnosis of the ovarian cyst is confirmed treatment should start immediately. Many forms of ovarian cysts resolve themselves on their own but some are serious and require intensive treatment. Most women opt for conventional medication but unfortunately conventional medication does not hold an ultimate solution for this condition. It is because though conventional medication does relieve the symptoms but it cannot completely eliminate cause of the cysts. Hence, the cysts kept recurring unless their root is cleared completely. Thus after diagnosis it becomes important that you look for alternative forms of therapy in order to get completely cured.

The complete cure of ovarian cysts is possible through the holistic approach. After the diagnosis you should consult a holist practitioner who will go beyond the mere diagnosis and find out the real cause behind the condition. The holistic practitioner will look for individual characteristics of the cysts, the actual cause, and the best treatment possible. With the help of the multidimensional approach of holistic treatment it is possible to completely wipe out the ovarian cysts and its actual cause, thus preventing it from recurring ever again.<bio>Mary Parker is an author of the best-selling e-book, "Ovarian Cysts No More- The Secrets Of Curing Ovarian Cysts Holistically ".
A nursing care plan defines the nursing care that a patient requires. There are some steps or medical actions on the basis of which a nurse requires to treat nursing problems this is also known as the intermediate stage of the nursing process. The nursing plan has the nursing diagnosis, which has objective and subjective data that determines the goals that need to be reached which includes deadlines and nursing intervention classification.

Aims Of A Nursing Care Plan

The aims of this type of care plan are to eradicate or remove a problem that exists, to check if it requires continuation in future or not, it is made on the basis of the health and nursing problems, it has a holistic focus towards any problem and it is also defined as an outcome of a systematic pattern.

What Is the Nursing Process All About?

The nursing process is the foundation stone to a nursing care plan. The first step of a nursing process is that the nurse requires collecting data of both types that is subjective as well as objective which is later required to be compelled into a systematic way like Marjory Gordon's functional health pattern. It further helps in diagnosing where the person requires nursing care. A nursing diagnosis is made on the basis of this data and the pattern created.

After checking a patient and making a nursing diagnosis, the next part is what sort of outcome should be expected from the diagnosis. In the diagnosis, the nurse also has to give a specific time by when a patient should recover. After the nursing diagnosis and time period for recovery is determined, the next is the nursing intervention to be provided. This nursing care plan needs to be followed to get the patient on the path to a speedy recovery. The care plan should have all the details and how often the plan has to be followed should be clear and easily readable by any nurse or medical attendee.

The time period (also known as the goal date) defined is the first step towards evaluation of a patient. There are many more factors such as if the patient met the specified time period for recovery or if he's not met it or whether the plan needs to be changed or some things require to be changed to improve the nursing care plan. In cases where the nursing care plan was defined for some small problem then the plan is stopped. If it is a chronic sickness, the plan is continued. And if it is problem or illness has not improved then the plan is changed or modified immediately to improve the plan. These plans are also given to various people at illness at various levels. There are plans for "wellness" and "high risk" plans.

Another aim is to stop problems from occurring again and improving the health pattern of the body, which will benefit the body in the future. So if you are the one who are considering about this, the detailed described above may help you to make the right decision more or less. <bio>http://www.nursing-plan.com </bio>

Diagnosing bipolar disorder has always been tricky, particularly for doctors and therapists. If there was a laboratory test or x-ray that could give a definitive bipolar disorder diagnosis, preliminary investigations by doctors would provide a much clearer result.

This lack of quantifiable analysis is part of the reason for the difficulty in determining whether the symptoms indicate mental illness or not. Accurate diagnosis is usually only reached after careful analysis of behaviour, thought patterns and consultation with family and loved ones.

Why Accurate Bipolar Disorder Diagnosis Is So Tricky

Symptoms indicating a bipolar disorder diagnosis could also indicate other physical or mental conditions. This makes it even more difficult to provide the appropriate treatment. For example, prescribing pain relief for the physical symptoms instead of digging deeper to identify psychological problems could be quite disastrous for the patient.

This problem is further exacerbated when patients displaying physical signs related to a potential bipolar disorder diagnosis consult their medical doctor and not a psychiatrist. As the average general practitioner is not specially trained to easily recognize mental disease, bipolar can often remain undiagnosed until the condition is well advanced. This can result in escalated episodes involving police, ambulance and drastic treatment for the patient.

The Main Issues Affecting Bipolar Disorder Diagnosis

There are several issues for therapists and doctors to carefully take into account when making a bipolar disorder diagnosis.

1. Ignoring international standards. Although an international standard exists for making a bipolar disorder diagnosis, many therapists and medical practitioners simply disregard it. This results in a patient becoming confused by getting different diagnoses from several different practitioners.

2. Self-denial. There has always been a negative connotation or stigma attached to the condition of bipolar disorder, commonly known as manic depression. This is one of the main reasons for bipolar sufferers retreating into self-denial, ignoring their symptoms with a "head-in-the-sand" approach. Instead of investigating a possible bipolar disorder diagnosis when the illness begins, the patient ignores the warning signs and does nothing about it. This approach only serves to increase the symptoms and advance the condition further than if the illness had been properly diagnosed early on.

3. Limitations of some general practitioners. Some general practitioners and medical doctors are experienced and qualified only in treating medical and physical conditions. Doctors in this category are not qualified to diagnose a mental or psychological illness. This risk in consulting with this type of doctor is getting symptoms treated as opposed to investigating the real source of the problem.

The psychological symptoms of bipolar disorder can also be difficult to detect, even by experts. Many symptoms can easily be mistaken for the symptoms of other psychological illnesses such as major depressive disorders, schizophrenia, substance-induced mood disorders, or mood disorders caused by medical conditions.

Even highly experienced psychiatrists and mental health experts can have difficulty reaching an accurate bipolar disorder diagnosis. It is therefore wise to avoid mis-diagnosis and seek help from a qualified mental health professional when symptoms and behavioral changes first start occurring. This at least gives a good chance of the illness being properly managed so that the crippling effects can be minimized. <bio>Jean Littman and husband Ray Hogan co-own http://www.bipolarclues.com, a resource and support site for sufferers of bipolar disorder(manic depression). Diagnosed with bipolar in his mid-twenties, Ray has learnt first hand the strategies which enable him to live a normal, fulfilling and stable life. </bio>

In the world of canines, many diseases and infections exist everywhere, even in the most sophisticated homes and yards. Diagnosing a dog disease comes from seeing the symptoms your dog may show and then having the necessary tests done to find the exact cause of the disease. The top canine diseases are canine viral hepatitis, bloating, aortic steonosis, distemper and the parvovirus. With proper health care and diet, dogs can live a healthy life as your faithful companion for many years.

Diagnosis of Dog Diseases- Canine Viral Hepatitis

This viral disease affects younger dogs and puppies. Affecting the liver and inner lining of the blood vessels, this disease is transmitted from dog to dog by way of a discharge from the infected dog. Some symptoms of the disease stomach bleeding, increased thirst, lack of appetite, vomiting and a tender stomach when touched. Dogs do show discomfort when experiencing canine viral hepatitis.

Diagnosis of Dog Diseases- Bloating

A life threatening and serious problem in dogs, also called gastric dilation volvulus, comes from over eating as well as other health problems. Some breeds are prone to this because of their breed, but others just plain over eat. The symptoms of bloating are a restless dog and a fat looking stomach that happens quickly. Dry heaves follow such a condition and proper diagnosis is required by tests. Sometimes taking food away for twenty-four hours will help reduce the bloating problem in your dog.

Diagnosis of Dog Diseases- Canine Distemper

Canine distemper is a viral infection that affects the immune system and can lead to serious complications if not death. This disease is contracted from contact with the excretions of an infected dog. Airborne particles can also contribute to infecting other dogs. Dogs rarely survive, but when they do, they suffer from muscle spasms and convulsions. The symptoms of a fever over 104 degrees, depression, pus in the eyes, convulsions, diarrhea and vomiting, if you see these signs, you need to contact your vet immediately. Proper vaccination of your dog prevents this viral disease from taking the life or livelihood of your companion.

Diagnosis of Dog Diseases- Aortic Steonosis

Aortic steonosis is an obstruction of the blood vessel that carries blood from the left ventricle and is an inherited health problem. No symptoms are visible for mild cases, but severe cases prevent the dog from any type of exercise. Dogs tend to faint when performing any kind of exercise due to the severity of the blockage. If your dog shows symptoms of fainting, tests will determine the exact cause and the vet will describe treatment objectives.

Diagnosis of Dog Diseases- Canine Parvovirus

Puppies under six months of age succumb to this particular disease. The intestinal tract, lymphoid tissue, immune system and the bone marrow are affected. Symptoms may be vomiting, convulsion weight loss and dehydration with coughing. For some puppies, death is immediate. Puppies need proper medical attention and proper vaccinations to prevent such an untimely demise. <bio>You can also find more info on http://www.aboutdoghealth.org/symptoms/illness.html on dog illness symptoms and http://www.aboutdoghealth.org/symptoms/diagnosis-for-dog-illness.html on diagnose dog sickness symptoms. http://AboutDogHealth.org is a comprehensive resource to help dog owners. </bio>

Continued from tcm Part 1

If you look closely at most acupuncture charts you will usually see the meridian lines on the chart and the pressure points are on the lines.

Most acupuncturists will first talk with the client/patient and have the patient fill out a questionnaire in much the same manner as a regular Western medical office. Then, the acupuncturist will do at least one version of Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis. There are many different diagnosis methods including but not limited to looking at the tongue or eyes or end of finger tips but the most common traditional method is Pulse diagnosis. Advanced masters can diagnose by sight.

To perform pulse diagnosis the acupuncturist will place their fingers on the palm side of the wrist and feel the energy flow through the soft tissue of the wrist. The sensations being felt for are a fast, slow, extra strong or extra weak pulse in one or the other of the meridians. Also, the practitioner is feeling for heat/dryness or wetness and/or any sensation that distinguishes one meridian from the others. Any difference in sensation indicates an imbalance in one or more meridians which in turn reflect physical problems or maladies. The idea in acupuncture is that by adjusting the meridians the physical state should also improve. A very sensitive touch is required to diagnose this way but it is simply a matter of practice to learn it.

Once the diagnosis has been made then the acupuncturist will consider the treatment options and insert the needles into the correction points. Then, the TCM physician uses sensitive touch once again to turn and adjust the needles so that they are influencing the flow of Chi through the meridians and hence adjusting the Chi flow through the entire body. Multiple follow-up treatments may be required to get the body to go back into balance and to fully accept the chi flow adjustment.

Historically, in China once the needles have been inserted into the patient then the TCM practitioner will influence the chi flow by using their hands and fingers to direct chi through the needles without touching the needles or the patient. This method is rarely practiced today as most practitioners do not have the knowledge or skill required to properly do it. Also, the Chi flow can be directed without needles. Using energy to direct the flow of Chi is taught in our more advanced programs. <bio>Sigung Richard Clear has over 30 years of continuous study in Tai Chi and Chi Kung both in the U.S. and China. http://www.clearstaichi.com </bio>

It would seem there are more alarming autism statistics each year. These are often hard to comprehend, and can be very misleading if you don't understand what you are reading. Autism is a blanket term for quite a few different conditions that are all related, yet vary in degree of function.

Asperger's is a relatively new term that covers a wide range of higher functioning children and adults. This is something that is relatively new, and people are now just getting the proper diagnosis. Though it would seem that the numbers of those with autism is rising almost out of control, it may be that diagnosis has been wrong in the past, and it is now easier to make the proper one.

If you go by the number presented in 2007 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 150 births will result in autistic children. This number seems scary, but the actually cases are probably about the same as before, but many others just were not known or could not be diagnosed. Some of these children had never been seen by a doctor, and many grew into adulthood with a different but wrong diagnosis. They may have been living with autism, but they were thought of as introverted, troubled or disruptive.

If you go back to the findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 2001, it was estimated that about 1.5 million children and adults are living with autism. The statistics from that year in comparison to this year would leave you to believe that the cases of this condition are rising by 15%. That seems alarming, but it might show in increase in proper diagnosis rather than an increase in overall cases. More and more children are now being diagnosed with autism when they would have normally been left to fall through the cracks and suffer needlessly.

There is some good news, even though the numbers seem to be very troubling. It would seem that an early and proper diagnosis might help avoid some of the costs of raising and caring for a child with autism. Most of the extra costs are ones that occur in adulthood, with some people requiring care for their entire lives.

When a child is diagnosed early, they can go through programs designed to help them communicate and socialize with others more effectively. This lessens the costs associated with caring for them when they reach adulthood in most cases. Though many children with autism are unlikely to fully integrate into society, some manage their condition well and go on to have pretty normal interactions and jobs when they reach adulthood.

The rise in Autism statistics can not be attributed to bad parenting nor is it something a person can ever leave behind, but through the proper support and intervention they can lead happy and fulfilled lives. <bio>By Rachel Evans.
Sadly sometimes children are faced with medical problems usually associated with adults and adult behavior. While the age difference between children and adults can be substantial, the negative impacts can be as severe with a child as it is with an adult. Sometimes the child's negative impact can be more dramatic and harmful than the adults. When this happens, it is unfortunate that the children haven't built up the strength or immunity to fight it.

The effects of insomnia in children can be quite dramatic. There are a number of residual effects with a child that suffers from bouts of insomnia. These effects can make the child's life very difficult. Difficulty in school, an inability to maintain a social life and a host or other problems can result from a poor night's sleep. Successful treatment for insomnia in children always starts with a proper diagnosis. A proper diagnosis leads to effective proper treatment. There are lots of conditions that could lead to the insomnia. Insomnia can be the result of both mental and physical problems. As with many disorders, there is an unfortunate tendency for parents to downplay a potentially serious condition that is in fact quite serious.

Ascertaining a Proper Diagnosis of Insomnia in Children

Most people will have to deal with insomnia at one point or another within their lifetime. If the insomnia becomes continual, that may indicate a serious underlying condition. Parents must take insomnia in a child seriously. If it isn't taken seriously, then a proper diagnosis can't be made and without a proper diagnosis, proper treatment can't take place. This doesn't help the child and may, in fact, lead to a worsening of the underlying condition. If your child displays signs of general tiredness or his attitude changes or his mental process slows down, it may be a sign of poor sleep. It has been proved that a child's IQ suffers more from poor sleep than exposure to lead. Get it checked.

Insomnia in Children and the Parent's Role

If you as a parent notice the presence of insomnia in your child, it is then your responsibility to make sure the condition is treated properly. In your primary role as caregiver, you must not neglect this responsibility. Neglecting the condition won't help and in fact can make it worse. The ramifications can be dire. So many things in our adult lives are planted in us as a child. Let your child have all the chances to grow up strong and confident. No sleep equals limited abilities.

As a parent you must not ignore potentially serious conditions and while insomnia may not seem like a serious condition, it can be. A superficial analysis of a problem by an untrained person isn't the way to go. Insomnia in children should be diagnosed and treated by a professional. There are sleep doctors in most major cities. If you child is suffering from insomnia, search out a sleep doctor or have your family doctor refer your child. <bio>Ken Glauser http://www.yoursleepdisorders.com </bio>

Adware is one of those intrusive things that seems to have just "happened". Of course, early computers weren't often connected to the internet so the chance for annoying Adware to appear was a lot less. Unless you had the misfortune to use an infected floppy disk, you were probably OK.

Then came the turn of pop-up adverts but with the advent of pop-up blockers the adware companies have had to resort to other ways to get our attention. If most people block pop-up adverts most of the time, what's the point in using them?

Some pop-up adverts are still unblockable - they just appear on your screen, sometimes below your current browser window, sometimes occupying the full screen. Most times you can just click the "close" button, but it's still annoying. After all, why should anyone have the right to take you away from the current web page you're viewing? It's the internet equivalent of cold calling on the telephone and is enough to make you growl!

Adware gets worse when it starts to slow down your computer. The most intrusive is difficult to uninstall, such as programs that display random adverts and crash your browser in the process.

If you know exactly when the Adware installed itself, you may be able to get away with doing a Windows System Restore to a point in time before the Adware affected your computer. Always assuming that the Adware didn't install itself with another program that you actually wanted.

Sometimes you can get remove Adware by paying an upgrade fee. Browsers like Opera work this way - you can have a free copy, supported by advertising, or you can pay a small fee and get rid of the adverts. Or you can change to an alternative program that doesn't inundate you with adverts - this is easy with a web browser but may be more difficult with a more specialist application.

The next step in Adware removal is to do a search on the web for instructions. If you've been infected by a fairly common piece of software, this can be a viable option. But it still frequently involves delving around in the Windows registry, which is a dark and scary place (even to some geeks) and if you get something wrong you can destabilize your computer further.

Alternatively, you can get a piece of software to do the hard work for you. This has the advantage that - providing the software has been programmed correctly - it should be reliable and a simple process. Adware removal software is available free or fairly cheap. The free programs like Spybot Search and Destroy work well but you usually have to remember to run them.

If you've got more than enough things to remember already, it's worth spending a few dollars on a program that will work away in the background of your computer in much the same way as your anti-virus software does. Incidentallt the only reason I can think of as to why most of the anti-virus companies don't check for Adware as well is that they can sell us another program. But that's life. <bio>Download a free Adware diagnosis tool from http://replymagic.com/adware-diagnosis-tool.html to check whether your computer is running any Adware that you're not aware of and eliminate Adware here http://replymagic.com/adware-diagnosis-tool.html </bio>

When Windows first started out, programs stored pretty much everything they needed in the same folder as the program. The files were simple text files, called "ini" files. They contained all sorts of information, from the last files you opened to color choices and much more. The big advantage of this was that when you changed computers you could usually get away with copying a program's folder across to the new machine and the program would still run. And if you ran into problems with a program, you could almost always solve them by checking the contents of their ini file.

Then came the Windows Registry.

It was supposed to make life simpler. One central repository to store everything vital about your computer. Everything you ever need to know about your machine is stored there - software, hardware, applications, settings, hardware drivers, helper files, where that window was when you last opened it and whether it should open there again.

This means that the Registry is good in theory.

In practice, it's not always as easy. Much the same as mending your car used to be simple, now it takes more computing power than it did to land on the moon.

Entries get stored there but not removed when they are no longer needed.

Because it's near enough incomprehensible to real people, nasty programs can hide details in the Registry. Programs like viruses, adware and spyware. Not to mention keystroke loggers and other nasties.

When the registry gets too full with stuff it doesn't need, your computer starts to slow down with all the extra (unnecessary) workload. Booting up takes longer. Launching simple programs gives you enough time to brew a fresh coffee. Closing down your PC is just as bad.

The most radical way to sort this out is to completely re-install everything on your computer from scratch. But assuming you live in the real world or have nothing better to do for the next couple days, this likely isn't a viable option.

Next up, if you're brave, is by using the Regedit software that comes with Windows. Unless you're manually removing something that you installed when you wrote a program, this really isn't recommended. Type in or delete the wrong thing and your computer could become more unstable. Sure, try it on a machine belonging to an enemy (when they're not looking, of course) or a computer you no longer use. But messing with the registry by hand on your regular computer is not something to be undertaken lightly, if at all.

Far and away the best way of cleaning up your registry and speeding up your computer is to use software specifically designed for the purpose. There are plenty of programs around and your choice is likely to be dictated by the one you come across first - near enough all modern registry cleaner programs work efficiently and will get your computer back up to its full speed quickly and without any of the worries associated with tackling registry entries manually. <bio>Download a free Registry diagnosis tool here http://replymagic.com/registry-diagnosis-tool.htmlto analyze your Windows Registry and clean it up if necessary with this Registry Checking Tool at http://replymagic.com/registry-diagnosis-tool.html </bio>

Sleep apnea, fairly common among adults, is a disorder in which the soft tissue located in the back of the throat narrows and repeatedly closes during the time you are asleep, obstructing the breathing passages. This obstruction results in a reduction in or a total cessation of breathing during sleep.

The well-wired human brain responds to the interruption in breathing by causing you to wake up in order to resume breathing. These periods of interruption in breathing lasting at least 10 seconds or more are known as apnea.

Because apnea episodes can occur several hundred times each night, sleep becomes interrupted and completely ineffective leaving you feeling tired and irritable the following morning. You may not even realize that you have been awakened during the night, yet you wake in the morning feeling like you have been run over by a Mac truck!

There are two different types of sleep apnea, the most common of the two is known as obstructive sleep apnea, while the other is known as central sleep apnea. A diagnosis of sleep apnea is based on a person's medical history and the results of medical exams that can be used to confirm the diagnosis. Sleep apnea may be treated with either surgical or non-surgical methods.

Apnea interrupts sleep because when apnea occurs your brain causes you to either wake into a more shallow level of sleep or it causes you to wake completely, both of which will cause you starting to breathe again.

Enduring many nights of interrupted sleep because of apnea can lead to other physical issues, as well, such as complete and total exhaustion, excessive irritability and frustration with daily life.

Sleep apnea is a medical condition that requires intervention from your healthcare provider for an accurate diagnosis and an appropriate and individualized treatment plan. Don't settle for interrupted sleep; put sleep apnea to rest today. <bio>For more important information on getting a good night's sleep be sure to visit http://www.sleep-good.com where you will find advice and tips on sleep habits, insomnia, sleep apnea and more </bio>

Living with bipolar disorder can be difficult at best. Getting the correct diagnosis and treatment is generally the first hurdle to overcome in helping a person lead a normal, productive life. The hitch with coming up with the correct diagnosis in this case is that bipolar symptom possibilities tend to come in two completely different sets.

An estimated 70 percent of all those with diagnosed bipolar disorder have suffered through incorrect diagnosis and treatment. The most common misdiagnosis for this condition is depression, since the signs of this particular phase tend to be a little more troublesome for those around a patient. Unfortunately, misdiagnosis tends to lead to poor or incorrect management of the condition, which means individual bipolar symptom possibilities can still arise.

This biological condition does not have a blood test to screen for it. It also does not have any terribly easy to spot signs. Generally, a person must endure several full swing episodes before there is even a chance for diagnosis and treatment of the chemical imbalance in their brains that causes this condition.

The most common bipolar symptom and signs will depend on the phase of the cycle. For example, a bipolar symptom in the manic phase will likely be quite different from those present during the depressive state.

Some of the most common bipolar symptom possibilities, by phase include:

Manic

During this phase of bipolar disorder a person's mood is greatly elevated and they tend to be the life of the party, but some more serious bipolar symptom possibilities might arise, as well. They include:

* Inflated ego or self-esteem. People who display this bipolar symptom tend to have an elevated self-worth and also tend to misjudge their own abilities and talents.

* Racing thoughts. This symptom has people moving from subject to subject in speech without much rhyme or reason.

* Lack of sleep. Those who are in the manic phase are known to go long periods of time without sleep or rest.

* Increase risk taking. The manic phase also brings about, or can, a lessened inhibition to taking risks. This might mean a person will become sexually active with strangers, might take drugs or could be more willing to go into debt and make very bad financial decisions.

Depressive

The typical symptoms of this state tend to mirror actual clinical depression. This is the number one reason so many people with bipolar disorder are misdiagnosed. The symptoms of this phase include:

* Feelings of sadness, guilt or hopelessness. * A lack of desire to perform normal activities, including favorite hobbies. * Appetite changes. This might include a lack of desire to eat or binging on some food items. * Fatigue. * Thoughts of suicide or death.

When mood swings are evident and symptoms from both side of bipolar disorder are present, it is extremely important for people to push for the right diagnosis. When a bipolar symptom is spotted and the trend is there, getting help can lead to control. This means a correct diagnosis can keep the symptoms in check and help those who suffer from this condition lead relatively normal lives. <bio>For more information on bipolar, try visiting http://www.bipolardetails.com - a website that specializes in providing bipolar related tips and resources to include information on bipolar symptoms. </bio>

Who needs to be examined?

Individuals who have been exposed (or suspect they have been exposed) to asbestos fibers on the job or at home via a family contact should inform their physician of their exposure history and any symptoms. Asbestos fibers can be measured in urine, feces, mucus, or material rinsed out of the lungs.

A thorough physical examination, including a chest x-ray and lung function tests, may be recommended. It is important to note that chest x-rays cannot detect asbestos fibers in the lungs, but they can help identify any lung changes resulting from asbestos exposure. Interpretation of the chest x-ray may require the help of a specialist who is experienced in reading x-rays for asbestos-related diseases. Other tests also may be necessary.

Almost anyone who has inhaled asbestos dust is at risk. Even a worker's families and friends can be at risk, because asbestos can often be carried on clothing.

Exposure to asbestos dust can occur at major construction job sites, in shipyards, in industry, and during construction or renovation of commercial buildings. See the list at right for certain occupations that are known to be those where risk of exposure to asbestos is great, and the numbers of people in such occupations contracting asbestos disease are high.

Why Mesothelioma Mostly Affect Men?

Millions of workers have been exposed to asbestos over the years, and the unlucky ones have discovered several decades later just what an impact their work had on their health. Many of the cases of mesothelioma coming to light today are in men, as it was mainly men that worked with asbestos several decades ago.

The dangers of asbestos exposure have now been far more widely recognised. However, millions of people worldwide have been exposed to this mineral.

Mesothelioma Diagnosis

The diagnosis of mesothelioma is not always easy. Many doctors are still unfamiliar with the symptoms which could be put down to a number of other, more common diseases. Timely diagnosis of mesothelioma is particularly difficult because of the latency period between contraction and display of symptoms. <bio>Mesothelioma is a rare disease that is strongly related to exposure to Asbestos.
How does a person get measles? How do you treat it? Do you know the answer?

Measles, also known as rubeola, is an infectious viral disease that affects the a respiratory system and mostly occurs in winter and spring. The most common symptoms of measles include fever, runny nose, a hacking cough, conjunctivitis, and a spreading rash, some of which last about 2 weeks. In most cases, measles treatment simply involves treating the symptoms with paracetamol, regular rinsing of the mouth, and plenty of fluids to drink. Serious and rare complications can result from measles, such as hepatitis, pneumonia, and brain inflammation (encephalitis). Immediate medical treatment should be obtained if there is any sign of these developing. Measles symptoms and its complications are usually more severe in adults.

The measles virus resides in the mucus of the nose and throat of infected people. When they cough or sneeze, droplets spray into the air. These droplets remain contagious on infected surfaces for up to two hours.

Measles is a highly contagious disease, and about 90% of non-immunized persons will develop measles if they live in the same house as someone who has got the disease. The measles virus can be spread to other people from airborne droplets of fluid from the mouth or nose. People with measles are contagious from about 5 days after exposure to about 5 days after the rash appears.

Diagnosis of measles is based on the symptoms. Various laboratory tests may help with the diagnosis, but they are usually not necessary.

In some cases, if your doctor suspects that you or your child has measles, a virus culture or serologic blood test may be ordered. This blood test can detect measles antibodies, which indicate whether you have had an infection of the disease.

If you suspect that you or your child has measles, then contact your doctor as soon as possible in order to avoid the risk of developing complications or spreading the disease. <bio>David Williams contributes to several popular web sites, most recently http://becid.com and http://depek.com </bio>
