Depression is a mood disorder that can degrade the quality of our lives. While there are many treatments, medications and methods of dealing with depression, there needs to be a way of detecting if someone is going to be at risk from depression. This is where a depression self test can be of great help in finding the early symptoms of depression.

While these self tests are of great help they do not promise to cure or even prevent depression from progressing further into our lives. Nor can they replace the medical evaluation and diagnosis of a doctor. What these depression self tests do provide is an indication that our depression may be a passing phase or that it could be part of a mood disorder.

A search on the internet will provide you with a large choice of depression self tests. When you look at a depression self test you will notice that it is fairly easy to do. There will be a number of questions for you to answer. These questions will be based upon your mental and emotional outlook. The self test may have questions like "I get tired for no reason".

The answers to the questions on the depression self test are not intrusive. They merely give an indication of what you maybe going through. They can also provide a guide to hidden feelings that may cause depression. You may find that there are answers that you can choose from.

The format of the answers can be something like this =96 A little of the time, Some of the time, A good part of the time, and Most of the time. It is possible that there will be buttons or spaces on the depression self test next to the answer. You indicate your choice by clicking on the answer that most reflects your mental state.

You will need to answer all of the questions on the depression self test or the form will reset itself. Some depression self tests will let you use the BACK button on the browser so that you can complete the test with the answers that you have already provided.

Once you have fully completed the depression self test, clicking the Calculate Score button that is found at the bottom of the test will indicate if you are suffering from a depression disorder or if what you are experiencing is the normal but brief periods of feeling depressed and blue.

Should you be unsatisfied with the results you can always take the depression self test all over again. However you need to realize that depression self tests are only a way of finding if you do have a depression disorder. By taking a depression self test you are only finding out if you might have any depression disorders and are not replacing a doctor's medical evaluation. <bio> http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_Depression.html , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html </bio>

There are three main categories of depression disorder. They are known as Bipolar Disorder, Chronic Depression Disorder and Major Depression Disorder. Of the three mood disorders Major Depression Disorder is the most severe. This disorder may also be called Severe Depression.

In Severe Depression the cause can be a single traumatic event in your life. It could even be the result of many personal disappointments and problems in your life. Sometimes it is possible to develop Severe Depression without any traumatic events or life problems. Still other times people who suffer from Chronic Depression can go into Severe Depression as a result of a traumatic event.

The symptoms of depression are also present in Severe Depression. They are however more intense than normal depression symptoms. For most people who suffer from Severe Depression, they can either have a recurring Severe Depression episode or their Severe Depression may occur only once in their lifetime and never reoccur again.

Recurring Severe Depression is where the individual will have periods of Severe Depression that are followed by periods of depression. After these bouts of depression are finished, they will be able to live at least several years without any episodes of depression. They may have another episode of Severe Depression which can arise due to some traumatic event. In a single episode of Severe Depression the symptoms occur due to a major traumatic event in the individual's life. Once medical treatment has taken effect, the Severe Depression will not occur again in their lifetime.

In general the medication that is prescribed for Severe Depression is anti-depressants. There are several types of depression medications that are used for Severe Depression. These medications include Tricyclics, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, Serotonin Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors, Noradrenergic and Serotonergic anti-depressants, Serotonin 5-HT (2) Receptor Antagonists, Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors and Bupropion.

The other type of treatment that works for Severe Depression is that of cognitive-behavioral therapy. The best method of treatment is that of medication combined with cognitive therapy. The therapy is used to treat the psychological aspects of Severe Depression while the medication will treat the symptoms of Severe Depression.

The intensified symptoms of Severe Depression include restlessness, irritability, insomnia, oversleeping, fatigue, thoughts of death, suicide, early morning waking, pessimism, hopelessness, weight loss or gain, and a change in appetite

These symptoms coupled with any traumatic incident or an accumulation of life problems can trigger either recurring Severe Depression or episodic Severe Depression. Both types of Severe Depression need to be treated as the consequences can be life threatening. Should you suspect that you may be having Severe Depression then you should get immediate medical help. <bio> http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_Depression.html , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html </bio>

Many people suffer from bi-polar disorder, and unfortunately it is oftentimes undiagnosed. Some people suffer for years before they finally get the correct help while some never get help at all and end up suicidal. When it is diagnosed, it takes specific medication modification to help at the appropriate times, as well as counselling.

So what is bi-polar disorder? It is also known as a "manic-depressive" condition and causes a person to be severely depressed at times and then be extremely euphoric at others. Both men and women can suffer from bi-polar disorder, and it can hit at any age but many people seem to start noticing the symptoms in their twenties, although teens have been diagnosed as well. It also appears that approximately 85% of people suffering from bi-polar have a family history of depression.

Health experts classify bi-polar disorder into four types: Bi-polar Affective Disorder 1, Bi-polar Affective Disorder 2, Cyclothymic Disorder, and Bi-polar Affective Disorder, not otherwise specified.

• Bi-polar Disorder Type 1 is when full blown mania occurs. Bi-polar 1 deal with the manic episodes associated with bi-polar. A person with Bi-polar 1 is extremely restless and energetic, and has trouble sleeping as their mind wonders nonstop and they appear to talk a lot more than usual. Sometimes they can even hallucinate and in some cases are even thought to be "psychotic". In the extreme cases of Bi-polar 1, a person may even have to be confined.

• Bi-polar Disorder 2 is sometimes referred to as "swinging Bi-polar". A person diagnosed with Bi-polar 2 can experience at least one depressive episode and one manic episode. Unlike Bi-polar 1, those diagnosed with Bi-polar 2 aren't known to have psychotic episodes. They can, however, suffer badly from depression and sometimes this depression will come crashing down on them all at once from loss of a loved one, job, relationship, etc and it will be very hard for them to cope.

• Cyclothymic Disorder is when a person has a period of mania and depression but not to a major extent. Their manic and depressive episodes can go back and forth over a period of time, but not enough to meet full criteria of major depression. Those diagnosed with Cyclothymic Disorder do have trouble functioning at times.

• Bi-polar Disorder - NOS is a person who experiences some characteristics of Bi-polar, but none of which can be classified as one of the three other types. Studies have shown that a person with Bi-polar Disorder - NOS will most likely go for help during a depressive episode. It is very important that their doctor or therapist obtain information about their family history. If the patient's family has a history of depression and mania both, then there's a chance that depression isn't the only thing the patient has to worry about. If the patient is only given anti-depressants to help with his or her depression, then they can quickly switch to mania.

Thankfully there is help and treatment for those who have any type of bi-polar disorder. There are skilled doctors and therapists who can recognize the symptoms early on and give patients the help and supported needed. While there is no cure, there is good treatment out there. If you think that you or someone you know may have bi-polar disorder, support and treatment is available. You don't have to live in fear or worry; you CAN get the help you need.<bio> Loved One Addicted To Drugs Loved One Addicted To Alcohol</bio>

Depression is not a small societal problem. It affects a rather large segment of our population. The word depression is a broad topic, and actually there are a variety of different type of the condition known as depression. These different types of depression are defined by different types of symptoms that are present.

The most commonly type of depression treated today is known as major depression. Major depression is denoted by a lack of energy by the individual, unable to get a good night's sleep, and just a general lethargic feeling or feeling blue for extended periods of time with no breaks in the mood and no apparent cause for the feelings.

For those suffering from major depression they have a tendency to stop doing those things that they normally enjoy doing. Major depression can be a condition that will not go away without proper treatment. These symptoms of major depression are usually defined as such when they persist for a period of at least two weeks without leaving. Although some people do get and stay better after a bout with major depression, many times the individual will have to do battle with these conditions several times throughout their lifetime.

Dysthymia is a type of depression that is not as severe as a major depression and is not as commonly discussed. People of suffer from dysthymia will often have the same symptoms of major depression just to a lessor degree. They may also only experience a select few of the symptoms that accompany a major depression. Due to the less pronounced symptoms a person who suffers from dysthymia can sometime do so for their entire lives without getting treatment.

A different type of depression and a very specific type is bipolar disorder. Bipolar doesn't occur nearly as frequently as the other forms of depression. This type of disorder is earmarked by the afflicted individual experiencing both extreme emotional highs along with extreme emotional lows. Because of the nature of these extremes, a person suffering from bipolar disorder can have their way of life devastated. During the highs they may become overly excited, very talkative, and even spend large amounts of money. While the low side is fraught with feeling blue and unsociable. This bipolar type of condition is one that needs to be addressed in order to be control-able.

If you suspect that someone that is close to you is experiencing any of these types of symptoms of the various depression sorts, you should recommend that they consider seeking professional assistance to get them on track.

Even though depression is a mental disorder, it presents itself as very real physical symptoms and should not be taken lightly. Healthcare providers today have a variety of options to treat depression including medications if necessary.

With depression it is not just a matter of 'snapping out of it'. If symptoms persist, get some help. <bio>For more important information on depression be sure to visit http://www.0-depression.com where you will find advice and tips on preventing and treating depression as well as other articles on keeping you living the fullest life you can. </bio>

Seasonal Affective Disorder is not an easy disorder to diagnose because most of the time it passes as light depression. However, if it is left untreated for a long duration, the possibility of its getting worse cannot be overruled. It may start off slow with the person feeling a little low during certain seasons but may grow gradually into a disabling disorder affecting one's normal life to a very large extent. It can throw one's life out of gear.

Generally, those suffering from this disorder feel that what they are feeling is nothing more than helplessness of a temporary kind. Then, gradually it gets serious and the season starts making them increasingly depressed. It is only when the problem becomes unmanageable that the experts are approached.

Many of the studies on the subject have shown that one out of every ten of us has suffered from the disorder in some form though it cannot be considered a disorder because it occurred once in a while. It becomes a disorder only when it starts affecting a person regularly and its impact disrupts one's normal life.

The disorder is indicated by extreme sluggishness. So much so that people tend to sleep for more than 10 hours everyday, and even after that feel tired on getting up. It is true that the disorder can cause depression, but it is equally true that it might also be a contributing factor. Studies have shown that those who are suffering from depression of some kind are more susceptible to the disorder. The studies connect the disorder to lower exposure to the sun because a lack of sun makes the body to produce lesser amount of vitamin D, which can be a cause of the disorder.

The disorder is found to affect people of all ages but is not found in young children and tends to dig its claws on women of above 35.

If there are symptoms indicating Seasonal Affective Disorder, it is advisable that you seek expert assistance immediately because it can sometimes be cured simply by a making a little alteration in one's diet. The treatment for the disorder is relatively easy and quite effective. So, there is no point in continuing to suffer from it. <bio>To get more information visit http://www.about-disability.com/what-is-disability/, http://www.about-disability.com/social-security-disability-benefits/ and http://www.about-disability.com/disability-training/ </bio>

ADHD means Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and it's a condition that appears in some children and might affect their childhood, and even a large part of their life. The main thing that this syndrome does is that it doesn't allow children to pay attention to what's happening around them, or sometimes it is manifested by not being able to control their behaviors.

Another good to know fact is that many children seem to have this syndrome around the world. Studies show that 1 out of 30 children are likely to have the adhd syndrome. Depression has an important role in everybody's life, but the question that many doctors ask themselves is - what is the result of depression and adhd in children and how does this depression and adhd in children affect them.

Depression and anxiety

Some of the children with ADHD also suffer from depression and anxiety, luckily there are methods to cure this, and if this is done in time by the children's parents, or by specialists, their lives improve vastly. There are treatments that will allow the children to concentrate better and to behave better with more complex tasks, like the ones used in schools, for example.

Another important stage in the lives of the children with ADHD is the bipolar disorder, which is different from the depression and adhd in children. This is characterized as moments of intense highs and lows, throughout different periods, and these moments behave almost like in a cycle that comes back regularly, thus affecting their moods.

Fortunately, there is a possibility to treat depression and adhd in children. But every treatment depends on the child, his or her family and the recommendations of their doctor. There have been a different set of complex studies on the condition, the most known and the most comprehensive is the study made by the National Institute of Mental Health and is known as the Multimodal Treatment Study of Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Our Conclusion

The treatment is made by different people representing the medical staff. All are doing a part of the job, and together, along with the family of the children, are completing the treatment trying to find more effective and more fast and secure ways for the treatment of depression and adhd in children. There is always hope in life, just as there is with this particular condition, if your child suffers from such a disorder, you are not the only one in this position and there are people out there willing to help. <bio>If you want to learn more about Depression please visit our site which is free to the public.
Cyclothymic disorder and bipolar disorder are both mental illnesses.

Do they go hand in hand? Is cyclothymic a precursor of things to come? Does it transition into full blown bipolar disorder?

With the clinical depression disorders that exist today you must be aware that some clinical depression disorders, almost as a warning sign of the future. You must watch for the warning signs.

Many of those who suffer with cyclothymic disorder are quite likely to develop full blown bipolar disorder.

Cyclothymic disorder exhibits many of the same symptoms of bipolar disorders, such as the extreme highs nor the extreme lows of bipolar depression; however, neither the manic highs nor the depressive lows well known to be associated with bipolar last very long and they are not especially tough to deal with at this early stage. For this reason in this early stage of the game, cyclothymic disorder is not referred to as called bipolar disorder.

Let's really understand the distinction here.

At this early phase of symptoms, cyclothymic disorder truly mimics bipolar disorder with the only change being that the highs and lows are not as severe nor do they last as long nor are they completely disruptive to life.

However, this is a serious matter as cyclothymic disorder has a high probability of converting into full blown bipolar disorder and so it must be aggressively treated in this early phase for the best possible outcome.

Cyclothymic disorder can begin to rear its ugly head in early adulthood or in some cases even in the late teen years.

Cyclothymic disorder is known to essentially affect both males and females equally, with only a slightly higher percentage of females being affected.

Cyclothymic disorder seems to have a genetic component as evidenced by the fact that many of those suffering from cyclothymic disorder also have a family member who has suffered from bipolar disorder. Many also have a family history of drug and alcohol abuse.

It is quite important that anyone suffering with cyclothymic disorder avoid all drugs and alcohol as they can further complicate any mental health disorder as well as interrupt treatment progress.

Remember that someone suffering from cyclothymic disorder will not exhibit severe symptoms such as those usually seen with bipolar disorder. These symptoms that you see will be much milder but they absolutely, positively will affect your daily life.

It is also important to remember that you must seek treatment as soon as you see these symptoms since ignoring them can only make them worse and can make treatment much more difficult. Cyclothymic disorder treatment typically encompasses combination therapy, including medication as well as counseling. Particularly with this disorder, combination therapy is vitally important.

In fact one therapy will not work without the other. Unlike other types of depression, using only an antidepressant as treatment is not necessarily the only prescription medication that will be required.

Your physician may also add mood stabilizing drugs in an attempt to help with the highly variable mood swings that can be so unbearable and can change at a moment's notice. Your physician may also add a sleep medication to help regulate nighttime sleep.

As we all know, there is no cure for mental illness. It is something that must be managed throughout life. Cyclothymic disorder is no different from any other mental illness.

There is no cure. However, with appropriate medication and aggressive treatment you have a shot at feeling that life is worth getting up out of the bed each and every day. Ignoring cyclothymic disorder will not make it go away; it will only lead to a more tragic situation.

Seek help. It is the right thing to do. <bio>For more important information on depression be sure to visit http://www.0-depression.com where you will find advice and tips on preventing and treating depression as well as other articles on keeping you living the fullest life you can. </bio>

There are many different types of depression. Depression can take many forms, and so many healthcare professionals use a number of different terms when referring to depression. Seasonal affective disorder, clinical depression, and bipolar depression are all commonly diagnosed types of depression. What really causes a lot of confusion when someone is diagnosed with depression is that it can very often overlap with another illness. Conditions such as substance abuse or an eating disorder may be confused with depression, and can make any form of depression rather hard to diagnose. The following are some very common forms of depression.

You will hear the term major depression when you are experiencing one of the depressive disorders that are severe enough to require treatment. For example, say you are very active at your local gym but have experienced some type of severe emotional trauma and start to avoid the gym at all costs. It is very likely that you could be experiencing a bout with major depression.

Another one of the major types of depression is bipolar depression (also known as manic depressive illness). Bipolar depression is commonly recognized as someone experiencing being overly happy, then suddenly becoming horribly depressed. Many doctors believe that bipolar depression is an imbalance in the brain that can often be successfully treated with medications.

One of the major types of depression that women are known to suffer from is postpartum depression. Healthcare professionals have determined that many women suffering from postpartum depression have already suffered from some form of depression previously. Most women that go through giving birth feel badly the first few days afterward. However, those that are not able to snap out of the depressive feelings can experience them for months, if not years, if not properly treated.

Of the many types of depression, a common subtype of depression is seasonal affective disorder. This form of depression seems to be tied to the way people react to the amount of sunlight that is available to them each day. Light therapy by use of special lamps is a common treatment for those suffering from seasonal affective disorder.

A very serious form of the many types of depression is psychotic depression. Those that suffer from psychotic depression very often hear voices in their head in addition to having visual delusions. Individuals that are suffering from this need to have someone help them seek treatment as soon as possible. Most sufferers are not able to think rationally, and therefore are likely to hurt themselves or others. Psychotic depression strikes about 15% of individuals suffering from major depression.

People that seem to be suffering constantly from a mild form of depression are likely to be suffering from dysthymia. People that are suffering from dysthymia can also be hit with a bout of major depression, the more severe form of depression that results in necessary close medical monitoring and aggressive treatment.

Another of the many types of depression that are very commonly suffered by women is atypical depression. This form of depression is commonly marked by experiencing things like panic attacks, overeating, and sleeping disturbances. Someone with atypical depression will feel depressed for a period of time, feel better, and then feel worse again. Atypical depression is very common in a person's younger years, and if gone untreated will follow them into adulthood.

No matter which one of the many types of depression you might be suffering from, knowing the difference between them is the best way to get the best possible treatment. Once you know which is the best course of treatment you will know the best way to battle whichever of the many different types of depression that you might be suffering from. <bio>Ryan King is a author that concentrates on helping people better understand depression, for cutting edge information you NEED to know about Depression check out his website at http://www.depressionhelpbook.com </bio>

There are many resources in today's world for someone who is wondering if they are suffering from depression and want to identify depression and self-test themselves. The internet is an option for those who are intimidated by telling a professional because so often feelings of guilt and shame accompany depression. In order to aid in the identity of depression and self-test, one has to understand that only a qualified professional is able to diagnose the disorder and administer medical treatment, if required.

There are a variety of questions that a professional would ask you, these are in the same vein when identifying depression and self-test. A series of questions would better help recognize that what the ailments may come from a chemical imbalance or other imbalances within the body. There are many symptoms of depression and self-test may be the only available option to you so you should begin by looking at some symptoms and if you are displaying many of them, depression and self-test may be the road for you to follow preliminarily.

There are many depression guides online available to absolutely anybody who has an internet connection. They are private and you do not have to leave personal information. They tend to outline symptoms more than to recognize depression and self test but are still very useful in the identifying and treatment.

Having trouble sleeping at night is a major sign that depression might be setting in. Crying spells, or feeling like crying and loss of appetite are symptoms that depression is present. The mind feels like it is in a state of constant fog and habitual tiredness and lack of energy are indicators in depression and self-test.

Suffering from the feeling of inferiority and uselessness, the inability to make decisions, the lack of libido can also be factors in distinguishing depression and self-test. Feeling unsure about the future, restlessness and a general feeling of not being either wanted or needed often appear in individuals displaying depression.

The best advice for depression and self test, would be to seek professional help to be sure that you are not suffering symptoms of an underlying issue that is being hidden by depression symptoms. Self-testing is a wonderful option but it should only be used as a practical guideline and cannot be compared to a diagnosis by a qualified professional. Always seek medical advice before starting any treatments to help deal with depression or any other disorder. <bio>If you want to learn more about Depression please visit our site which is free to the public.
Anyone that has a problem such as acute depression, stress or anxiety must need a proper treatment for their problem. A good option for them would be acupuncture for insomnia depression anxiety which will be sure to help them because acupuncture is a holistic means that helps in the integration of body and mind functions to solve all kinds of problems in a natural as well as effective manner.

Thus, it is safe to say that acupuncture for insomnia depression anxiety is a far better means of treating insomnia depression anxiety as compared with taking anti-depressant pills, or even drugs for combating anxiety.

Elevates a Person's Mood

In fact, acupuncture for insomnia depression anxiety is a great means of elevating a person's mood and so it pays to know a bit about what acupuncture is before considering it as a viable means to treat insomnia depression anxiety. Acupuncture is a treatment method that involves sticking fine needles into certain parts of the human body which results in relief from pain and also disease. It works in that it balances the life energy also called "Chi" that in turn causes the spiritual as well as physical and also emotional balances to be enhanced.

When choosing acupuncture for insomnia depression anxiety as a treatment method, one must realize that there are different techniques used and it could mean getting acupuncture with or without the use of needles. Often, the cause behind a person suffering from migraines and headaches is a lack of proper blood circulation and acupuncture can help restores the blood circulation which makes the mind clear and betters the concentration while also making a person more positive in his or her feeling.

Acupuncture for insomnia depression anxiety is probably the best alternative and when a person suffers from insomnia he or she will not be getting enough sleep and with acupuncture you will find that it helps to send complex signals to the brain that induces a person to relax and also get enough sleep thereby curing the disease.

Along with insomnia, depression as well as anxiety are other ailments that cause different physical as well as mental diseases for which acupuncture for insomnia depression anxiety is most suitable as it involves inserting needles in the ear cartilage, skin as well as on fingertips and some other meridian points in order to let the energy flow that had been blocked.
Feeling sad is very normal for human beings. You feel it when you break-up, lost a job or someone dies. After feeling down, you should soon recover from the sadness and move on with your life. Unfortunately not everyone can do this. Sometimes, for no apparent reason, people get sad for long periods of time. This is considered to be depression.

Depression is considered to be a psychological disorder that can be very harmful. Mild cases of depression would make a person cry for no reason and feel inconsolably sad. People, who have extreme depression, find themselves unable to function normally. They stay at home, do not sleep and even refuse to sleep. The worst depression is when you begin contemplating ending your life because you find no reason to be alive.

Some women, after giving birth, feel depressed because of the enormity of their new responsibility and the sudden changes in their lives. In this case, the condition is referred to as post-partum depression. Other people prone to depression are those who have lost someone suddenly, those who have very poor coping mechanism and those who actually find pleasure in feeling depressed.

If you have been feeling sad for no reasons at all, you should speak with a professional to determine whether or not you have an obsessive compulsive disorder. A psychiatrist would be qualified to diagnose you and even prescribe ant-depressant if you require one. Many depressed patients, unfortunately, become addicted to the medication and find it difficult to feel better without the prescription drug. Basically this can increase your risks of being drug-dependent.

Other less harmful treatment involves hypnotism. The relatively new hypnotherapy works by targeting your subconscious and embedding anti-depression ideas. Since the subconscious actually dictates about 90 percent of the brain's activity, it is not surprising that hypnotherapy has become effective in treating psychoses like phobias and addiction. Depending on the level of depression, a person can feel its effects after one to five sessions. The treatment is safer, less expensive and less probing.

For people who are depressed, you should first admit that you have the disorder for the treatments to be effective. You should also make sure that your commitment does not waver. Life is too short and too beautiful to be sad all the time. By getting help, you are giving yourself a new lease in life. It will also free you permanently from depression's bad effects. <bio>Find out more about hypnotherapy for depression here. http://depression.y54.com </bio>

Bipolar disorder, or manic depression as some people call it, is a very frightening condition to live with. The symptoms of this disorder can be harsh, they can come and go rapidly and they can lead to mood swings that are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Bipolar depression is the particular swing that can present some of the most problems for those who suffer from the condition.

To understand bipolar depression, it's a very good idea to have a basic grasp on this condition in its entirety. Those who suffer from this condition tend to endure very extreme mood swings. Manic behavior is on one end of the spectrum and depressive the other.

The swings are not caused by a desire to get into trouble. They are not caused by a psychological problem, per say. Rather, the root of this medical phenomena is an imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain. When these chemicals are out of whack, behavior can be, as well.

While both phases of bipolar disorder can cause very real, very lasting problems for those who suffer from the disorder, it is the depressive phase that can be the most troubling. This is so for a number of reasons.

First off, bipolar depression is generally the phase that causes misdiagnosis. Doctors recognize the depressive symptoms and fail to recognize the manic ones. This means a person suffering from this very real, very biological condition is more likely to be treated for the single phase, rather than the entire disorder.

Make no mistake, however, the blame doesn't necessarily fall entirely on the doctors. It is possible the patients and their family members, too, fail to connect the manic episodes with the depressive ones. This can mean a doctor is forced to treat a patient with only half of the picture to go on.

Since this condition involves a chemical imbalance, the medications used to treat depression might not always be helpful. A careful management of bipolar disorder needs to be present to help ensure a patient leads as close to a normal life as possible.

The second major reason bipolar depression is a big problem is the symptoms themselves. Often mirroring true, clinical depression these symptoms can range from loss of appetite and fatigue to feelings of helplessness, sadness and guilt. It is even possible that thoughts of death and suicide will be present and even acted on. The suicide rate for untreated bipolar depression is higher than many might think.

The depressive phase can also be misidentified as nothing more than "the blues." Since the bipolar patient can go through such extreme mood swings, it can be very difficult for the person suffering and those around them to take the depressive state and recognize it for its seriousness.

Living with manic depression requires very careful management. While there is no known cure for the condition, there are treatments that can help keep its most troublesome symptoms in check. When the disorder is properly treated, the signs of bipolar depression and even the manic phases are kept well under wraps in most cases. <bio>For more information on bipolar, try visiting http://www.bipolardetails.com - a website that specializes in providing bipolar related tips and resources to include information on bipolar depression. </bio>

These various types of depression are called Clinical depression. With Clinical depression the condition needs to be treated as soon as possible.

In Clinical depression some sort of treatment is needed to help control the symptoms or to prevent the depression from turning life threatening. There are three main types of Clinical depression. They are Unipolar or Major depression, Bipolar or Manic depression and Chronic or Dysthymia depression.

Each of these depression disorders can affect their sufferer differently. In general people who suffer from Major Clinical depression will have recurrent attacks. The severe depressed state can last from a few hours to a few months. These people will tend to feel absolutely worthless and feel a loss of motivation. Feelings of complete hopelessness and in many cases suicidal feelings may also be present.

For the sufferers of Bipolar Clinical depression they experience the same symptoms as Major Clinical depression. In addition their moods will swing towards a high euphoric state of mania. Then they will experience feelings of extreme low. While the sufferers are in the high mood they can exist for long periods of time with almost no food and no sleep.

These individuals will feel that they can accomplish anything and they will also feel invincible. These people sometimes believe that they have a personal communication link to God and their own personal celebrities. The other pattern of Bipolar Clinical depression is that these individuals have a very high thinking and speech process.

While sufferers of Chronic Clinical depression will not experience any of these symptoms they will suffer a prolonged feeling of being sad and depressed. They will experience no sense of personal satisfaction from their various day to day tasks. There maybe occasions when their depressed state could cause them to feel suicidal.

Any of these forms of depression are in their own way debilitating to the sufferer. However for any depression to be classified as a disorder it must last for quite a while without disappearing. While Chronic Clinical depression is not always life threatening, both Major Clinical depression and Bipolar Clinical depression need to be taken seriously and treated as soon as possible. Your doctor or physician can prescribe medication should you need to be treated for any of the forms of Clinical depression. <bio> http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_Depression.html , http://www.herbalremedieslk.com/home_remedies.html </bio>

When people talk about depression, they usually mean a person who is feeling down and lethargic, and who has generally lost interest in life. Most people don't realize that there are many different types of depression a person can be suffering from, with each type often showing different symptoms.

While this isn't an exhaustive list, here is a quick overview of the most common forms of depression.

Mild/Minor Depression is the least severe form of depression. Usually the symptoms aren't so severe that they have a major impact in the life of the sufferer, although the depression can still cause distress and disruption. Many people who are suffering from mild depression never seek treatment - they don't believe the symptoms are severe enough.

Dysthymic Disorder is a long-term form of mild depression (lasting two or more years). Like mild depression, most sufferers never seek help as they don't believe their symptoms are severe enough. Also like mild depression, the symptoms of dysthymic depression don't usually have a huge impact on the sufferers day-to-day life. But when the long-term results from the depression are considered, the impact can be huge. People who suffer from dysthymic depression often can't remember a time when they weren't depressed.

Moderate Depression fits somewhere between mild depression and major depression. The symptoms of moderate depression are more severe and numerous than mild depression, and they begin to have an impact on the work, home and social life of the sufferer. While mild depression and dysthymic depression can go unnoticed by others, the symptoms of moderate depression are usually noticeable. If left untreated, people suffering from moderate depression can slip into major depression.

Major Depression (also known as clinical or unipolar depression) is what most people think of when they think of depression - the individual seems to have totally given up on life, and has a large number of obvious symptoms. It is unlikely that someone suffering from major depression could function normally in a work, social or home setting - their symptoms are too pronounced. Suicide can be a huge risk with major depression, and professional help needs to be sought to treat the depression.

Bipolar Depression (BPD) is sometimes known as manic-depression, and is characterized by the sufferer having large mood swings from very upbeat and energetic to extreme lows. Both periods normally last for several weeks at a time. Bipolar depression is usually categorized into a number of sub-categories. While there is no firm consensus on how many sub-categories there are, the four most common are Bipolar I Disorder, Bipolar I Disorder, Cyclothymic Disorder and Bipolar NOS.

People with bipolar I disorder have the most extreme mood swings. Their low moods can be classified as major depression, while in their positive moods they can engage in crazy, outrageous and even dangerous activities. During this 'mania' state they may even suffer from paranoia or hallucinations.

People with bipolar II disorder have much less extreme mania periods. Indeed, many bipolar II sufferers go untreated because people mistake their 'mania' phase for simply getting over their depression. People with bipolar II don't suffer from paranoia or hallucinations.

Cyclothymic disorder is a milder but much more long-term version of bipolar disorder (usually lasting for two or more years). Like bipolar II the mania phases are relatively minor, but in addition their depressive phases aren't so severe that they classify as major depression. If left untreated, cyclothymic depression can develop into bipolar II depression.

Finally, Bipolar NOS (Not Otherwise Specified) is a catch-all category for people who have some of the symptoms of bipolar, but those symptoms don't allow the person to be neatly categorized in one of the three other categories. For example, the sufferer may have fast cycling between the manic and depressive states, or manic states without depressive states.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) that affects between 3% and 8% of women. Symptoms of depression appear around a week prior to menstruation, and disappear within a few days of menstruation beginning.

Postnatal (Postpartum) Depression can occur any time in the first 12 months after a baby is born. Some form of postnatal depression affects over 80% of new mothers, although most who are affected only have a very mild form of depression that usually passes naturally with rest and the support of family and friends. However around 15% of mothers get a more severe form of postnatal depression, and like major depression the sufferer needs treatment and support to overcome the illness.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression caused by the changing light levels throughout the year. The most common for of SAD is caused by the low-light levels of winter, but a much rarer form of the disorder is triggered by the high-light levels of summer.

As you can see, depression comes in many different forms - each type of depression has different triggers and symptoms associated with it, and each type of depression also responds better to different treatments. By being aware of the different forms depression can take, you can be much more prepared to help a friend of family member.<bio>Jason Anderson is a long-time depression sufferer who finally decided to do something about it for himself and others.
Apart of Manic Depressive Disorder (also called Bipolar Disorder) the two main known types of depression are Major Depression and Dysthymia. Both types of depression can easily be distinguished from each other although intertype episodes, especially of Major Depression in Dysthymia patients, are commonly experienced. So what are the differences between those two types of depression?

Major Depression

Arguably Major Depression is the mental disorder that a layman would associate with the term "depression". As the name of the illness implies it is the case that patients suffering from this type of depression show many or even all classic signs of depression in their most severe form. Such symptoms include a change in natural sleep patterns leading to excessive sleepiness and / or insomnia; a loss of appetite, motivation and drive even for simple activities and ones, which had previously been enjoyed by the patient; (often unexplainable) deep sadness; anxiety episodes; the inability to meet and entertain people, including close friends and relatives; a general lack of self-esteem; and potentially strong thoughts of terminal disease, dead and suicide. Major Depression can happen as a single devastating episode often associated with a so-called "life-event" such as the death of a dear relative or close friend, or an accident leading to permanent disablement. In such cases it may pass away after proper treatment, usually by combined application of anti depressants and psychotherapy, to never appear again. However, in many instances episodes of Major Depression happen without a major life-event though some external trigger can normally be identified. Triggers of Major Depression may for example be a seemingly minor incident such as a family quarrel, or a more severe incident such as chemical poisoning. Also, there are many cases where this type of depression occurs more then once during a patient's lifetime.

Dysthymia

In a way Dysthymia is the less severe of the two mentioned types of depression as the usual symptoms of depression described before commonly occur in a weakened form and are less debilitating. However hard it is for her the Dysthymia patient usually is still able to live her life and to pursue her work (although it costs her much effort), while someone suffering from Major Depression may not even be able to leave his bed in the morning. In other words: The Dysthymia patient does not function properly =96 the Major Depression patient may not function at all. However, the downside of having Dysthymia rather than Major Depression is that the former is a chronic disease that may need constant treatment during a patient's life. Also, Dysthymia patients often experience one or more episodes of Major Depression on top of their Dysthymia disease during their lifetime.

While Major Depression and Dysthymia are closely connected but different types of depression they have in common that they are both types of depression that can be treated very successfully. The usual treatment for both types of depression includes anti depressants, talk therapy and a change in lifestyle towards proper nutrition, sports and selected recreational activities, etc. Treatment does possibly though not necessarily result in a cure of the disease, i.e. the disorder never reappears after treatment is stopped. In any case it does definitely lead to an increased standard of living as there will be prolonged episodes without disease. Thus, while both types of depression are severe mental disorders they have lost lots of their threatening potential due to today's medical achievements. <bio>To learn more on the two types of depression and bipolar disorder check out http://www.beatdepression.org, your information portal on depression and treatments for depression. </bio>

If you suffer from General Anxiety Disorder symptoms can include but are not limited to those also suffered by panic disorder victims. It has also been found that General Anxiety Disorder affects women proportionally more that it does men.

General Anxiety Disorder symptoms are many and vary from person to person. There are however a few symptoms that are the same across the board for most people and which generally characterize their lives and lifestyles.

One such symptom of General Anxiety Disorder is chronic and incessant worrying. Although worry is a natural emotion and most of us experience it from time to time in our daily lives, for the General Anxiety Disorder sufferer their worry is chronic and most times pathological. Most times the chronic worrier will let their worries overtake their world and will sometimes let it go so far as to incapacitate them in their daily lives.

By this, I don't mean that General Anxiety Disorder sufferers have a choice over whether or not they worry ceaselessly, on the contrary the person might be aware that they're worrying needlessly but be unable to stop it or help themselves.

By the same token General Anxiety Disorder symptoms can bring on insomnia, panic attacks and depression. Intense anxiety and fear are also quite common to General Anxiety Disorder symptoms.

Other more physical, General Anxiety Disorder symptoms include headaches, diarrhea and nausea, lightheadedness, trembling or twitching. A palpitating or pounding heart, shortness of breath and trouble concentrating are also General Anxiety Disorder symptoms that can occur.

Irritability and mood swings, constant tension coupled with the inability to relax are all General Anxiety Disorder symptoms, and are all contributing features to other General Anxiety Disorder symptoms as well.

This vicious cycle can sometimes take its toll not only on the General Anxiety Disorder sufferer but also on the family of the General Anxiety Disorder sufferer. The pressures of living with a person who suffers from General Anxiety Disorder, the inability to cope with the persistent and sometimes inconsequential worrying, the constant depression and mood swings can all take their toll. Most families don't survive too well if someone within the family suffers from General Anxiety Disorder symptoms.

That's why medical attention should be sought as soon as possible to alleviate your symptoms. General Anxiety Disorder can be cured and you should know this. Treatment methods are readily available to you and it's merely a matter of finding the courage to go out and find it. Rest assured that your doctor or therapist can help you in alleviating your General Anxiety Disorder symptoms properly and it will only take a little time and patience and will power on your part to cure yourself. <bio>Author's sites: http://www.easyhomeremedy.com , http://www.myanxietyguide.com , http://www.home-remedies-for-heartburn.com </bio>

It's normal to feel low or down at some point in a persons life. Depression however is a totally different matter, as it is an illness which affects the whole of a person, in other words the mood, thoughts and body. It influences everything from the way a person eats and sleeps to the way that they feel about themselves and think about things.

Depression or depressive disorder is very different from a simple feeling of being low. It is not a sign that a person has a weak character or a condition that can simply be wished away. People with this disorder can't just snap out of it and feel brighter. When someone has depressive disorder and they do not look for suitable treatment, their symptoms can last for weeks, months, or sometimes even years. Obtaining the appropriate treatment for depressive disorder can help most of the people who suffer from depression.

Depression symptoms can be different from individual to individual and can also depend on the severity of their depression. Depression will affect a persons thinking, behavior, feeling, and physical health.

* Affects in Thinking

When it comes to thinking, a person could have problems with focus and decision making. Other people may find that they have problems with their short term memory and seem to forget things all the time. Depression is mainly characterized by feeling pessimistic, feeling guilty, thinking negative thoughts, self-criticism and low self-esteem. When a person's depression is more severe, they may experience self destructive thoughts.

* Affects in Feelings

An individual might have feelings of sadness for no reason and might even find they no longer enjoy the things that they once enjoyed doing the most. It is quite common to become apathetic, lack motivation, feel tired or slowed down all the time and even have trouble controlling their temper.

* Affects in Behavior

When a person is feeling depressed, the negative emotions that they feel can cause them to act more indifferent, it is also likely that a person may withdraw from the social circles they usually inhabit as they feel uncomfortable being around other people. A person's appearance and hygiene may suffer in cases of extreme depression. The lack of motivation in a person with depression affects their productivity at work and responsibilities at home and as a result these areas are neglected, they may even have trouble getting out of bed.

* Affects in Physical Health

It is common that a person with depression suffers with chronic fatigue and even excessive sleeping whilst others may be unable to sleep or not sleep very well. Those unable to sleep may just lay awake for hours or wake up a lot of times during the night whilst the people that over sleep can spend all day asleep and still feel tired. A lot of people with depression suffer from a loss of appetite, complain of aches and pains and feel lethargic or slowed down whilst others may feel restless and unable to sit still.

Depression is found in a person if they show these symptoms for at least several weeks, but it is not a good idea to diagnose yourself, so seeking the help of an expert as soon as possible is highly recommended. Depression is treatable so getting a proper diagnosis and treatment is imperative. <bio>Clinical Depression Treatment is you free resource for depression and depression related information.
