It's no secret, babies are prone to crying. Crying is their way to communicate to their parents that they want something like food, sleep or a new diaper. But, it can also be a sign of pain, or discomfort like that associated with colic. How can we tell normal baby crying from colic baby crying? Check below to discover three warning signs of colic.

Crying predictably

Also known as the "rule of threes." If a baby cries for three or more hours a day, three or more days a week, for three consecutive weeks, but is otherwise healthy and thriving, she can be diagnosed with colic. The crying jags usually start early evening and may last until well after bedtime. Your baby may be extremely gassy and pass some gas towards the end of the colic episode.

Out of control crying

Baby's cry will be intense and inconsolable. A colicky baby seems to be in pain, and the crying is indicative of this. The face will more than likely be extremely red. And any attempt to comfort will seem almost impossible. Because of the extreme crying, your baby will swallow too much air which results in gas.

Posture change

You will notice your baby tends to curl up her legs, clench her fist and have tense, rigid stomach muscles.

What are the Causes of Colic?

Despite thorough research, no single cause for colic has been narrowed down. The fussiness a colicky baby demonstrates has many different causes. In order to help your baby, you need to become familiar with several different colic remedies to help soothe your baby's pain.

Some possible theories of the cause of colic are:

• Problems digesting proteins like lactose and others.
• Acid Reflux (stomach acid flows backwards into the esophagus)
• Intestinal cramps from an immature digestive system
• Too much air being swallowed which leads to gas being caught in the digestive tract
• Too much mental stimulation on an immature nervous system

Barry M. Lester, Ph.D., director of the colic clinic at Brown University, states that of the approximately four million babies born, 800,000 suffer from colic. His book Why is My Baby Crying is a valuable resource for parents of babies with colic.

In his book, Lester indicates you can differentiate between a "normal" baby cry and a "pain" cry.

"The pain cry is usually high-pitched, loud, and of sudden onset and includes long periods of breath-holding," Lester writes.

Parents of colicky babies can assure you, the cry you witness is a "pain" cry. If you think your baby's cry sounds like she is in pain, please call your doctor right away. There may be other conditions present other than colic.

Parents who watch their baby suffer from signs of colic suffer as well. They might feel utterly helpless. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Colic will more than likely disappear by the third month of life (although some cases have been known to last up to 9 months).

If you doctor confirms that your baby is suffering from colic, don't despair. Although colic will probably disrupt your schedule and make you feel like an incompetent parent, you're not. Colic is not your fault, and there are lots of tools and remedies available to help soothe your baby and make her happy and comfortable again.<bio>Cherie Stirewalt is a colic baby survivor and outlines the colic remedies she mastered to soothe her baby's crying. Download her white noise mp3 and get started on stopping your baby's colic today!</bio>

Even the calmest, most perfect child can turn into a crying scream machine in the car. A wet diaper, an uncomfortable seat belt, or the pangs of hunger or thirst can send any child into a crying fit that can test the patience of even the most subdued of parents. An angry or screaming child can also make the drive itself more dangerous as you become more distracted by the screams of your toddler. Bad moods are contagious. If you allow yourself to become angered by your child's crying you may drive more offensively and be more prone to doing something stupid while behind the wheel. There is no simple or fool-proof way to avoid having your child cry while you are driving him or her around, but these simple ideas may make things less stressful and more safe for you and other motorists.

1.If it is obvious that your child is not going to calm down on his own find a place to pull over (if it is safe to do so) and check to see if there is a simple reason for the crying. Did he spit out his pacifier, is his belt cutting into his shoulder, or does he have a wet diaper? NEVER try to take care of retrieving a pacifier or giving a cookie while you are driving. We have all tried it before and we all know that it is not a wise thing to do, especially in rush hour traffic.

2.For children that are old enough to understand a few basic words try using a de-escalation method such as counting down slowly and calmly from five to one while attempting to make occasional eye contact in the rear view mirror (if possible). This de-escalation method works more effectively if you practice it at home as well. Any time your child is throwing a tantrum instead of immediately putting him in time-out try getting him to calm down by sitting down with him face to face, make eye contact, and do the slow, calming count down. If you can get him to calm down at home using this method he will eventually be able to calm himself down while in the car with your verbal help.

3.Use a sibling as a helper. This isn't an option in all cases of course, but if your crying child has an older sibling in the car consider placing their car seats close enough together that the older child can play with or otherwise distract the younger child for a few minutes until you reach your destination. Obviously, the older child should never be allowed to unbuckle his seat belt while the vehicle is moving.

4.Never allow your child's crying to affect your driving or your attention to the road. At the same time never allow your child's crying to build your stress to the point that you yell at the child in a desperate (and futile) attempt to make him be quiet. A child that is too young to understand words will only be startled by your yelling and will likely cry even more. In addition to this yelling at your child can cause other psychological problems down the road. If you are nearing the end of your rope, pull over and find out what is wrong. Always calm yourself down before opening the door to check on your child.

There is never a perfect method to deal with the stress of a crying child, especially in a confined space. But consider these four simple tips and always stop and think before doing anything unsafe while driving a vehicle. Pulling over may slow you down or make you late, but driving faster or more erratically because of the distraction of a crying child can make you a danger to yourself and others while on the road. <bio>C.
For most parents, the search for the best possible care in ensuring that their baby's needs as far as attention and material needs are satisfied will always be at the top of their agenda. One typical sign that causes alarm for most parents is the usual crying of babies, signaling a certain shortcoming that needs to be attended to since these infants are unable to express in the usual means of what they need and what is bothering them.

Excessive crying is only natural for babies. These are usually referred to as colic issues. Colic is usually referred to as the extreme end of normal crying behaviors of babies usually in the span of 3 weeks and 3 months of age. Some people would often mistake or misdiagnose colic for excessive crying of babies, but the main difference can be identified for babies who are diagnosed to be healthy yet continuously cry despite consoling efforts of adults. Colic is usually at its worst for a span of about 6 to 8 weeks but would slowly decrease on its own in the succeeding weeks. Physician would term this as colic exaggerated infant crying behavior, something that can be expected for a newly born infant that is trying to find its way into the new world and environment that he finds himself in.

The degree of intensity to which most off springs would cry excessively depends as well on inherited nervous systems from the genes of their parents. Sometimes these would be traced as hereditary which is only normal. There should not be any cause for alarm, and other abnormal behaviors related to health such as vomiting and diarrhea are in no way closely related to colic issues. In such cases where health related problems are becoming recurrent, it would be best to relay this issue towards the family physician for consultation. But to identify this as related to colic child behaviors may be incorrect. This is something that misleads most parents into believing that there is an abnormality as far as the upbringing of a child. Treating such issues is only normal, since being newly born infants; parents are naturally concerned about the sensitivity of their child to the new environment they may find themselves in. <bio>Jason Rickard is the owner of Your Favourite Shop - http://www.yourfavouriteshop.com - Offering White Noise and Relaxation CDs - Visit Hapa Health - http://www.hapahapa.com for more articles. </bio>

Stop crying now. Dry your tears. Stop whining too. It's driving your family and friends crazy. So okay, your girl left you. Literally, it's painful and figuratively, it's her of saying "wake up and do something about this relationship else I'll bury you to the darkest chambers of my heart". So what are still doing there? Fix yourself and start planning how to get your ex back before its too late.

Things you need to know and consider in planning how to get your ex back.

1. "I'm sorry" is not enough. These are just words and even if you say them with all sincerity they will remain as plain words. Your ex-girlfriend will be somehow touched by the words but still it won't be enough. The fact that she broke up with you meant that she no longer thinks that saying you're sorry will fix the problems in your relationship. "I'm sorry" should be accompanied by actions.

2. One great tip on how to get your ex back is to free yourself. Free yourself with anger and negative thoughts that can be the outcome of too much pain. Everybody who has gone through a break up knows that there are moments when you blame yourself and then a minute after you'll blame your ex. These are also the time when yesterday you were angry at yourself for letting her go and today you're furious with her for leaving you in the first place. Those conflicting and fluctuating emotions are normal but then you still have to control feelings. See, you're not the only person who's suffering with the break up. Your ex-girlfriend is surely crying as if there's no tomorrow too. If you let go of these ill feelings then you'll never have to deal with a nagging feeling when you're trying to win her back.

3. Another tip on how to get your ex back is to quit pretending that you're a macho man and stop using the I-don't-care-I-can-find-someone-new attitude. Be real. If you really love and want to fix things then go for it. Do not second guess yourself and if you really can't hide your tears then don't be ashamed. There's nothing wrong in crying for the exchange of happiness and love. But boy, be wary. Crying is far different from being overly dramatic. Crying naturally can make your ex-girlfriend mushy inside. Being overly dramatic can irk her a lot. And you want your girl to be back in your arms because of love, right, and not because of pity.

4. One more tip on how to get your ex back is to be passionate and sincere in winning her affections again. A big no-no is to act too desperate. Talk to her, show her that you're willing to make it worth but never plead or beg. Maintain your self-worth because at the end of the day, you have to live with your actions and losing your dignity is another hurtful slap in your face. Just be honest and open with your feeling and she'll see the truth in your eyes.<bio>Want to learn how to get your ex back?
When I was younger, I used to get really irritated when my sisters used to start crying. It seemed as if they have nothing better to do but cry themselves to sleep. Nowadays, however, a smile creeps on my lips every time I hear my daughter cry. It has become music to my ears. Fact is, up to this point that I'm writing this article; I'm still wondering how this has happened. I, who have always sworn never to give birth, now have a beautiful daughter. I, who have always been a happy go lucky gal, am now content just playing with my baby.

I was on my second trimester when I started feeling fears. I was afraid because I didn't know how to give a baby a bath. I was afraid that I might not be able to make my baby stop crying. I was afraid that my baby might die because I couldn't take care of her properly. My husband kept telling me, everything will be alright once the baby's born, but I didn't believe him at the time, I continued to fret and cry at night.

Now that my daughter is here, I found out that taking care of her is so much easier than I imagined, thanks to the help of my mother and friends who had babies before me. Just like most mothers, I've found out that a baby's cries are simply their way of communication. Since they are unable to provide anything for themselves, they rely on us to provide them with the food, warmth and comfort that they need. For new parents, it can be difficult to work out what your baby is trying to tell you -- whether they are feeling cold, thirsty, uncomfortable or whether they just want to cuddle. As your baby gets older, he or she will learn other ways of communicating such as eye contact, make noise or even smiling which will greatly reduce their crying. To reassure yourself, here is a list why babies cry and what you can do to soothe them.

1. Your baby is hungry.

People say that this is the main reason why babies cry. Babies' stomachs hold very little and would need to feed very often. Offer your milk and let him or her keep feeding until she wants to. If your baby doesn't stop crying, then he or she might be expressing her next need.

2. Your baby needs to feel comfortable.

Babies cry when they need a diaper change or if their clothes are too tight. Babies also need to feel warm. To check if you baby is too hot or too cold, try feeling her stomach. It is also advisable to keep your baby's room at 18 degrees Celcius or 64 degrees Farenheit.

3. Your baby needs to be held.

Babies need cuddling and reassurance. Older children may be soothed by seeing or hearing you but babies need physical contact to feel comfortable. If you already fed your baby, or changed their diapers and he or she keeps crying, chances are, she needs to be touched.

4. Your baby needs to rest.

Some babies find it hard to sleep especially when they are getting too much attention. Some babies just want to stop the noise so she can rest for the day.<bio>Mark Crockrum -Article Marketer http://www.baby-assistance.info</bio>

If your little bundle of joy has colic, you may wonder if you will survive this trying time. The good news is that colic is not permanent. The crying will stop and your happy baby will return. Until then, those hours of endless crying try even the most devoted parents. Here are a few tips for keeping your sanity with a colicky baby.

See Your Pediatrician

It is important to rule out other health problems if your baby has extended periods of crying. Colic is often accompanied by gastric disorders and feeding problems. These conditions can cause hours of crying alone. It is crucial to treat any underlying health problems. Get medical confirmation that your child has colic and not something else.

Most babies begin exhibiting symptoms of colic around three or four weeks of age. The condition may continue for four or five months. The exact cause is unknown, but a common theory is that some children are born with an underdeveloped nervous system that results in overstimulation and inconsolable bouts of crying. Colic is very distressing for babies and caregivers.

If you feel like hurting your child during an extended crying spell, you are not a bad parent. It means it is time to get help and support. Call a neighbor, a grandparent, or friend to care for the baby for a while or place the baby in a safe place, like the crib, and go outside for a few minutes of fresh air and quiet time. If you are feeling angry, walk away from the child and call for a back-up caregiver.

Try Repetitive or White Noise

Repetitive noises often soothe colicky babies. Special music CDs with a rhythmic heartbeat and soothing lullabies are available. You can also place a tennis shoe in the dryer, or try using white noise. White noise is an audible noise with a constant frequency spectrum. Tune a radio to a blank station, turn the TV to a `snow station', run a fan, dryer, hairdryer, or vacuum cleaner =96 they all produce white noise. White noise can be very soothing for colicky babies, perhaps because it blocks out other stimuli.

The Car Ride

Colicky babies love car rides. The wind noise and repetitive motion of the moving car quiets their crying spells. Stop at a red light and the wailing begins again, so unless you have all night and a full tank of gas, this is not the best option. A car ride does work in a pinch.

Reduce Stimulation

As the dark hour approaches of your baby's usual crying spell, decrease the stimulation near the baby as much as possible. Turn down lights, keep things quiet, and adjust the room temperature. You can place cotton in the baby's ears and cover his head with a hat to help reduce auditory stimulation. Swaddling is helpful for some babies. Wrap your infant snugly in a blanket, leaving only his head free.

Try the Swing

Baby swings work for some colicky babies. The rhythmic movement may stop the crying altogether or it may result in breaks between heavy wailing. This may be due to the constant motion or it may provide enough of a distraction to stop the crying.

Colic is not a life sentence to cohabitation with a screaming child. Colic resolves on its own, usually before the child reaches five months of age. Support from friends, family and other parents of a colicky baby are the most important intervention for any family dealing with colic. <bio>Find helpful and creative ideas for parents and grandparents while you shop a great selection of kids furniture and classic toys.
I've been a stay at home dad now for a while and have seen lots of changes and challenges with our baby son. In the past 4+ weeks one of those challenges has been my sons crying. Its extremely frustrating as a parent to have a baby that cries frequently, but even more so when there is no apparent reason for the crying.

Even more frustrating can be the strain this puts on the parents relationship. Normally I consider myself a very patient and rational person, it is what has made me successful as a manager in my career. However, I found myself becoming very short tempered and all around an unpleasant person to be around. To make matters worse my wife could not understand my frustrations, or didn't appear to anyway, and consistently made comments about my ill-temper, sometimes calling me a butt head which only infuriated me further. So on that note, Moms and Dads if your spouse is having similar troubles with a crying baby, I'll give you a hint on what it is that I finally realized I needed from my wife during this time. I felt that my ill temper was mis-understood, and considering I was unable to cope with the crying or do something about it I was a bad parent and that my bad mood made me a poor spouse as well. This only makes matters worse, and looking back I wasn't a bad parent and found that I was doing everything a father should do. What I needed from my wife wasn't a miracle, I needed her to acknowledge, even though she may not understand where my feelings were coming from, that I was having a difficult time dealing with the incessant crying, not to call me names or judge me. I needed her to listen to what I was saying. Now everyone has a breaking point and one day I did. I called my wife and told her that the crying was just not right nor normal. I read all over the Internet that when your baby cries to just hold them and comfort them, but I questioned the logic of doing so when you took care of all the babies needs and the crying persisted for hours. It didn't make sense to me to put myself through this and get angry and upset from the noise and the inability to calm or meet the babies needs. Many sites with similar questions about what to do with a crying baby had various parents seemingly scorning them for not knowing how to take care of their baby and not just holding and comforting them, ignoring the fact that these were good parents and they had. That only makes it more frustrating when you read the same thing over and over, you begin to question your parenting and if you are a fit Mom or Dad. So I asked my wife to get us an appointment with our pediatrician.

So the next morning we went to the pediatrician and when asked what the visit was for, I explained the reason of persistent crying. The doctor asked about times and duration and if the baby seemed to have gas or not and then examined our babies health. Turning to his intern Doctor he asked so what does that sound like to you? And very quickly he said colic. Not even realizing it their was a pattern to his crying, about 45 minutes after waking up my son would cry for an hour and a half, then nap. then repeated itself after his nap but this time it would be for about 3 hours, then nap. then he would be good for a couple hours and start again until bed time. He was sleeping through the night though. So colic is by my understanding simply a condition when a healthy baby cries without any discernible reason and usually during a specific period of the day.

My next question to the doctor and the one that I had while searching through the Internet was, "So now that I know what is wrong with my son, how do I as a parent handle it?" The Doctor laughed a little and said, "When you have done all the normal things to help comfort and sooth your baby; feed, change the diaper, hold them, and try to comfort them, you need to let the baby cry and remove yourself from the area and go to another room and simply check on him every 15 minutes or so and ensure once again all his needs are met and if so and the crying persists leave once again for another 15 minutes and repeat. He stated that holding him was only going to cause me to get frustrated and that good parents do can do bad things under these circumstances. He also stated that with a colicky baby holding him would not do him any good and when checking on him you would re-enforce the idea that you are there to help him and comfort him and ensure needs his needs are met but that staying was not necessary and inadvisable for both our sakes." Now what a relief to my I'm not a bad Dad! I told my wife what the Doctor had said and I believe for the first time she actually understood what I was going through. That understanding and the Doctors advice has made the situation more bearable for both myself and my son. I'm once again the patient good natured person I once was and enjoy the times that we are together.

One lesson I learned from this experience is that if something seems overwhelming and abnormal to you, you should see your Doctor and get his advice =96 professional opinion, to diagnose the problem and let him advise you as to changes to be made or if what you are experiencing is normal. Just knowing where you stand in your unique situation with your son or daughter will make it that more bearable. <bio>I am a stay at home dad and write about my experiences about houseparenting and being a stay at home dad at my site http://www.houseparenting.com </bio>

One night last week, I walked by this gal with a friend, plus my friend's 10 year-old niece.

We three got about 15 feet past her, and suddenly we heard someone burst into tears. I turned and saw the woman just crying her heart out, right in the street.

We all walked back, and asked her what the matter was.

andquot; It's just so hard out here, I work so hard to play and I can't pay my rent...I was just evicted and my husband and I don't know what to do...One man gave a dollar and then took it back...andquot; and she just cried. She said her name was Nancy.

We all felt terrible for her, so we gave her $25. Until then, I'd put $1-2 in her hat from time to time. Since then, everytime I've passed her I've put in $5.

Last evening, my friend and I again walked by her. This time she was crying loudly again, with a few people around giving her extra money.

andquot;Geez,andquot; I said to my friend, andquot;do you think something else bad happened to her today?andquot;

andquot;I don't know,andquot; said my friend, andquot;maybe she's found a new way to get some extra money from people who walk by.andquot;

andquot;Duh,andquot; I said, thinking how slow-witted I was.

andquot;Well, andquot; said my friend, andquot;at least she doesn't have to maim her kid.andquot; (see for reference: <a href="http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?p=6408" >http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?p=6408 )

To explain, that's something my friend had personally witnessed in Turkey 20 years ago, and which she had related to me not a week before these events...

Shall we count our blessings? <bio>Kim Klaver is Harvard andamp; Stanford educated.
If you were a baby, you'd cry too. After being thrust into a world full of strange people, strange sights and strange sounds, you'd want to return to the womb; a happy haven where it was warm, cozy, and the sound that lulled you to sleep was a pleasant kind of whooshing. So how do you show you are unsatisfied with your current living arrangement? You cry. And you drive your parents bonkers. What is a parent to do?

Experts believe that you can significantly decrease crying associated with colic and recreate this whooshing noise by playing white noise for your crying baby.

What is White Noise?

White noise is all around us. The humming of a fan, the road noise in the car, these are all forms of white noise. And in your baby's case, the whooshing in the womb was white noise. Quite simply, white noise is all the sound frequencies a human ear can hear all being heard at once. Almost like a crowded room of people all talking at once. That roar you hear is white noise.

Why Would My Baby Want to Hear White Noise?

Your baby needs something to soothe her and remind her of her happy haven in the womb. Playing white noise will accomplish this goal and more.

First, you can play white noise to help drown out, or mask other noises. Several people sleep with a fan running to not be disturbed by other sounds in the house. Likewise, by playing white noise while baby sleeps, most sounds will be masked. So, if the dog barks, or the phone rings, you don't have to worry about your baby being disturbed. She will sleep more soundly and be much happier.

Second, the white noise will mimic the sound your baby heard for 40 weeks or so while in the womb. That rush, whoosh, or roaring sound is easy to recreate with simple things you might have around the house. The sound that most resembles the sound baby heard is a vacuum cleaner running, but there are a few more options you could try.

How do I Recreate White Noise?

You can recreate white noise by using everyday items around the house. Below are some ideas.

- A radio set to static
- A vacuum cleaner running
- A fan running
- A dishwasher running
- A hair dryer running

The goal is to create a soothing atmosphere which reminds baby of her environment in the womb. You can take other actions to achieve this atmosphere by turning down the lights, turning on some white noise, and keep baby gently swaying (swings work great for this). Another idea for creating the womb environment is to swaddle your baby. Swaddling helps your baby feel safe and secure.

But I Don't Want to Burn Up My Appliances!

If you try running your vacuum cleaner during a crying spell and your baby calms down quickly, you might want to invest in a white noise cd, or white noise generator. You can find these readily available for purchase online.

A white noise cd is more portable. You can just throw it in your diaper bag and go. If you prefer, you can opt to download a white noise mp3 and have them on your computer to burn several disks for your baby's other caretakers. The other plus about having a white noise cd is you can control the volume. You can also put the cd on repeat and let it go for hours.

So, if your baby has colic, and you are looking for a fast, easy solution to try to soothe her crying, pull out your vacuum and plug it in. Recreate that happy haven she experienced in the womb by making your own white noise. Baby will get some peace, and mommy and daddy will get some quiet.<bio>Cherie Stirewalt is a colic baby survivor and writes about the colic remedies she mastered to soothe her baby's crying. Download your own white noise mp3 and get started on stopping your baby's colic today!</bio>

Baby colic is one of the common disorders in infants. Baby colic is characterized by repeated excessive crying episodes, without any distinguishable reason. Most often, parents tend to blame themselves as the cause of the crying and see it as their incapability to handle the baby. However, baby colic has nothing to do with parenting, and the real reason behind the disorder remains unclear. The interesting fact associated with this disease is that the disorder can typically occur in well fed healthy babies. A baby suffering with baby colic is seen crying three or more hours per day, three or more days per week, ongoing for three or more weeks, however, it is not considered as a serious disorder since the symptoms will gradually disappear by its own, without any particular treatment.

Usually the outbreak of baby colic starts from three weeks of age and becomes severe in between six weeks and eight weeks. It will slowly subside by three months of time. Any how, in some cases, baby colic will last for six months of time. Even though it does not cause any impairment in the growth and development o the child, it creates must annoyance to the parents since no parent can easily tolerate his or her child crying.

Baby colic can be differentiated from other disorders, with its characteristic symptom of periodic outbreak of crying, which cannot be soothed easily and associated symptoms such as baby extending its legs, arching its back, face becoming red, clenching its fists, passing gas and having difficulty in passing stools. It is also seen that it will regularly occur in early evenings, which is related with disturbances in melatonin diurnal rhythm. The underlying reason that caused the disease is constantly being searched for and the possible answers include adverse conditions while pregnancy such as maternal prenatal anxiety, cigarette smoking, or labor medication,

The treatment for baby colic is not definite since the possible reason is not clear. However, many reasons can be looked at. The important reasons include the insufficient neurological development of baby, digestive system related problems, gas, protein allergies and diet problems of feeding mothers. The primary care for the baby is given according to the symptoms for outbreak of crying.

Baby colic treatment mainly includes measures to console the child. Primarily check whether your baby has any discomfort such as the need to change the diaper or hunger. If these are not a problem, then try to soothe the baby by taking them in horizontal position and keep them in motion. You can cradle, rock or dance with them in hand if you have any discomfort to carry in hand, take the child in a sling or front pack. Listening to white music and vibrations such as of appliances is also seen as being soothing for the child.

In case of baby colic due to digestive complaints, you have to lay your baby on their stomach, in order to pass gas. Gripewater, Mylicon drops and colic tablets may have to be given in prescribed dosage to avoid gas and other such digestive problems. If the baby is milk intolerant or fructose intolerant, in bottle fed babies, try to use any of the specific formulas such as Whey-based, Soy-based, and Hypoallergenic formulas. In breast fed babies, the mother has to be conscious to avoid spicy foods and allergenic substances such as high fibre grains, beans, onions broccoli, cabbage, and caffeine in diet, to avoid discomfort for the baby.

Baby colic is a temporary disorder in infants, which require patient attention and pampering formulas to overcome the repeated bouts of crying. <bio>Jason Rickard is the owner of http://www.yourfavouriteshop.com - Offering White Noise and Relaxation CDs - Visit http://www.hapahapa.com for more articles </bio>

Growing up, my siblings and I were never aloud to cry even just one tear. No matter how sad, mad or hurt we were, tears were never allowed. We were told that truly tough people didn't shed a tear no matter how bad life got. Tears, our parents said, were for wimps and people who weren't strong enough to handle life.

As I grew into my teenage years, I found it nearly impossible to make it through week after week without crying a single tear. Since I knew my parents would not allow me to cry, I'd often spend many tearful evenings alone in my upstairs bedroom or in the treefort high that remained high in one of our favorite backyard trees. I knew when a tear or two or many was about to come and so I'd quickly make my way to somewhere that I could be alone. I'm not sure if any of my other siblings did this as well, but I am quite sure that I never got caught in all my years of secret crying.

I made a commitment to myself early on in life that my own family would always be allowed to shed a tear or to cry as hard and long as they felt like. I would never subdue the emotions of my children as my parents had done for me. Now, as a counselor of children and adolescents, I have been even further convinced that children and people of all ages need outlets where they can safely and fully shed a tear.

So my advice to parents, teachers, siblings and friends is to let the people around you shed a tear if that is where their emotions take them. Of course, there are always more and less appropriate times to let your emotions carry you away, and I am by no means suggesting that people should be allowed to shed a tear or many at any time. I am simply saying that we need to reconsider what we are teaching our children about emotions. I do not want to be responsible for raising children who are unaware of their emotions or who are so busy trying to subdue them that eventually they succeed and end up living a life without feeling anything.

Crying a tear is a healthy thing. It is healthy mentally, emotionally and even physically. Humans were made to feel and experience the deepest and most raw emotions. Don't allow yourself or other people to live in the bondage of not being able to feel deeply. Life is much richer and more real when it is experienced through the emotions. So go ahead, shed a tear or two. <bio>Hallidae Thomason loves being a children and adolescent counselor. She loves encouraging her clients to shed a tear when they need to. See http://www.tearhub.info for more on the importance of shedding tears and feeling deeply. </bio>

Remember the scene in the movie "Lonesome Dove" after Gus (played by Richard Duval) saved Laurie (played by Diane Lane), who had been abducted and assaulted. Since her rescue she had been unable to speak, and they were camping on the way to join their friends on a cattle drive to Montana. They particularly enjoyed playing the game of poker together so he set up a table and cards for them to play. The beautiful memories of pleasant times brought tears in her eyes. He hugged her close in his arms and gently told her to let them flow, to cry it all out; saying something to the effect that what happened was in the past and that was the way to keep it in the past so it wouldn't follow her the rest of her life.

Truly those were wise words coming from a medium of entertainment. Just imagine what would happen if parents did that when their children starts to cry. Sure, no one likes to see their children in pain, and crying is a sign of extreme distress. However if they are not at the present time either injured physically or extremely uncomfortable due to external conditions such as cold and heat, or even very hungry, then maybe they just need to shed a few tears. Whatever the reason may have been to upset them is in the past; perhaps the tears are just a way of helping every person insure that the bad incident fades into distant memory.

For a number of us have experienced how beneficial crying can be. No matter how you try and resist the tears, but when they flow there's relief, and what's more a cleared head and new perspectives. In the same way, when young children are in someone's loving arms when the tears flow, and at the same time are told that the bad feelings will pass, they will surely experience the same kind of relief.

Of course, this isn't to say that is would be a great idea for kids to be encouraged to demand attention at any whim or to cry persistently. Parents at all times should use their judgment about where and when it's a good idea to pause whatever they might be doing and give a child a big hug and let them know that its okay to cry. Or else, if you have something pressing to do, you can even say I've only got five minutes, but I'm all yours for that time, and maybe we can chat about it soon after.

For sure, this pertains to families where children and adults are basically normal people. For children who have either behavioral problems and act out often and extremely, you may want to consider calling a professional in some aspect of psychology or a pediatrician. <bio>Linda E.
Have you ever felt compelled to do something, and not known why? Yet you have just done it, followed the urge, and found yourself in an amazing situation to do good, and do something almost heroic and yet not known why you ever had that urge in the first place?

One of my ideas in life is that everything happens for a reason. I do not always see that at the time it is occurring, however upon reflection I can make the links.

A near tragedy, which changed my daughter's life forever, can be linked to a fateful day when she saw a puppies for sale sign in a yard two blocks from our home. Many times before we had gone past and many times she had asked for a puppy from that house with the a puppies for sale sign, and I had said no!

I was resolved that a puppy, lovely as it might be was impractical at that time in our busy household. I had no intention of changing my mind.

My daughter has always loved dogs. We had a gun dog that was in his senior years. My wife and I knew that we were not going to have him as part of the family for much longer, but we did not know how we were going to break this news to our daughter.

She was ten years old at the time and much attached to the dog that was eleven years old. She came home from school one day very excited because she said a friend had been allowed to have a puppy. A lovely puppy for sale at the place we passed so often, and also there were more in the litter still for sale. Her friend had seen the sign from the school bus.

So my daughter wanted to know if we could go see the puppies. I told her that her father only bought dogs that were registered and that we had not idea what kind of puppies the neighbors had for sale. The people that had the puppies for sale were fairly new to the neighborhood so we did not know them or what breed of dog they owned.

She pleaded to go see the puppies. In the end I perversely promised her we would walk over after supper and see them. I had no intention of buying. I felt it was something I must do. Just go there.

We went to the house that had the puppies for sale and knocked on the door.

You could hear dogs barking and a baby crying but no one came to the door. We rang the bell several times and then knocked on the door.

I was concerned because the child crying sounded frantic. I looked in the side window by the door and saw a woman lying on the floor. I tried the door and it was open.

Then immediately I could see that the woman was obviously very pregnant and unconscious. The telephone was lying on the floor next to her. In a playpen was her 12 month old son crying.

In another playpen was a mother dog with seven puppies. I moved gently rolled her on to her side for her safety and called 911.

Within minutes the paramedics arrived and there was nothing they could do but deliver her baby in front of us, and soon a Doctor arrived as well.

My daughter was awestruck. The mother recovered and the shock eased. The lovely puppies, watched us. The 12 month old kid who we fed and bathed, and then the crying, but that came from a perfectly healthy baby being born, and all this happening in the house with us.

The woman's husband has been out of town on business and had not been due back until the next day. She had tripped and fallen, striking her head as she fell. The doctor told her that if we had not come over at that moment she and the baby might have died.

The puppies for sale sign saved her life. Did my daughter get her puppy? What do you think? <bio>The Dog and Puppy News.
It is always a fear of facing a divorce. First of all, I want you to touch your heart and answer this question truthfully. "Do you still love him / her?" If the answer is "Yes, I don't want a divorce" or " I don't know but I still feel for him / her". Please do whatever you can to save this marriage. Especially, if you have children, it is no longer talking about the two of you only because effects of divorce on children is unfair to them because a divorce can greatly affect their emotions and thinking.

Do you know why marriages fail?
Are you sad because you have just broken up with the man you love? Do you want to know how to get back with ex and be happy again? Yes, it is possible!

You can get the ex back just like magic with the right plan and if you avoid some of the most often made mistakes by women shortly after a break up. You will discuss later about a proven plan that will get your man back just like a "Magic Love Recipe".

But there are some mistakes that women tends to make after the break up and I will discuss five of them. Even if you have already made these mistakes you can recover from them with the right plan, a plan that works like a magic love recipe.

1. Give Him Space

Yes, you need to give him some space. He needs time to sort through his thoughts and feelings. It will take him longer because, after all, he is a man. He will most likely be more stubborn about making up than you. Not only does he need space, but you also need the time to get control of your emotions and lay out a plan on how to get back with ex.

2. Be Patient With Him

Sometime rushing to solve a problem will make it much worse. You do not want to rush or push him towards getting back together. First, you have to determine what was the problem or problems that caused the break up of your relationship. This is part of the plan on how to get back with ex, you need to plan before you act on getting your man back.

3. Crying

You don't want to always be crying to your ex all of the time. You have to get control of your emotions. You don't want to make him feel guilty or sorry for you so he will come back to you. You want to build a new and better relationship with your ex because he loves you, not because he feels sorry for you. A relationship built on pity will not last long.

4. You Can't Live Without Him

Telling your ex that you can't live without him is similar to the crying all of the time. A woman usually want to express their feelings and emotions more than a man, a woman will want the man to know she still loves him. The more you tell him you love him the more turned off he becomes.

5. Placing Blame

Now is not the time to place blame, you have decided you want to get back with your ex. Placing blame will only drive you and your ex further apart. There will be a time for you and your ex to sit down and discuss how to improve your relationship going forward. This is will be part of the plan that works like a magic love recipe on how to get back with ex.

Like I said in the beginning, even if you have made some of the above mistakes your chances of getting him back are excellent. You can be happy again with the right attitude and a plan on how to get back with ex.<bio>At this moment you need help on how to get back with ex, getting your ex back can be easy if you take the time before you act to think and get a plan together. What you need is a " Magic Love Recipe", a recipe for that answers the question "How To Get Back With Ex?". "The Magic Love Recipe" I mentioned above is in an excellent e-book by T.W.
When babies cry for more than three hours per day, they are said to have colic. This period of excessive crying differs from baby to baby, but usually occurs when a baby is around three weeks of age and wears off when a baby is in between the age of four to six weeks. During this period of extreme disturbance, the parents usually get little or no sleep.

Most doctors believe that colic occurs to a child in order to psychologically awaken, and prepare the parents of the newborn child, for a new life. This sense of awareness created through colic, is said to make the parents understand that a new member is now in the family. It is just as though the child is announcing their presence. If not for colic, doctors say that the normal way of life will resume and the parents will need more time to adjust to their new beginning as parents.

Usually what most parents would want is for the child to meet their demands. If the parents want to go out they would expect the child to stay quiet for the sitter, when they want to sleep they would imagine that the child would also fall asleep with them. This is not the case as the colic introduces a lot of change into their current active life. This helps the parents adjust their lifestyle to accommodate the newborn child instead of the newborn complying to parents lifestyle for each other. Reason for this belief has risen due to the fact that when parents have adopted a new lifestyle accommodating the newest member of the family, the colic stops.

Also what parents should understand is that colic is not a disease or an illness of some sort. It is very normal for a child to go through this period. The crying in some children will be more than others but this soon all this will go away. It is just another sign that the child is growing physically and mentally healthy. <bio>Jason Rickard is the owner of http://www.yourfavouriteshop.com - Offering White Noise and Relaxation CDs - Visit http://www.hapahapa.com for more articles </bio>

Any new parent is both excited and scared when they first bring their newborn home. Let's face it. After nine long months of waiting, or if you've waited for an adoption that took a long time to come, you've doubtless spent months getting ready. However, even though you're as ready as you can be, you might also be a bit nervous and even scared. No matter how prepared you are, you can always use a little extra help. So here are some important baby care tips to keep in mind.

Baby Care Tip #1: Bath water temperature

Of course, your newborn's skin is much more delicate than yours is, so bath temperature is one thing you have to be very careful as in order to avoid making the bath temperature too hot. When the baby first comes home, it can't be immersed in water for about the first month, so simply give sponge baths at first.

However, once the baby is about a month old and the umbilical stump has fallen off, you can give him or the first bath; of course, you should check with your pediatrician or nurse to make sure just when you can do this. Once you get the go-ahead, though, there are special bath inserts specially made for this purpose that you can put in your sink to lay baby in so that the baby is not fully immersed, but can still get wet enough to be bathed even before he or she can sit up.

In regard to water temperature, test the temperature by putting the inside of your wrist on the water's surface. Your skin here is very sensitive, similar to baby's, so you'll be able to test the temperature based on how the baby will actually feel it. The water itself should feel room temperature against your wrist.

Baby Care Tip #2: Swaddling your baby

Of course, newborn babies will be very sensitive to cold temperatures, since they've been in a nice warm uterus for the past nine months. Therefore, tiny babies should be dressed relatively warmly. In addition, it may make your new baby feel much more secure to be swaddled. Swaddling simply means that you wrap the baby snugly (but not too tightly) in a blanket so that he or she feels securely encased, similar to how he or she felt in the womb.

In addition, this can help the baby stop crying. Remember that crying is the only way for a very new baby to communicate. So if the baby is crying, it may not mean that he or she is hungry or has a dirty diaper that needs to be changed. It may simply mean that he or she does not feel secure. By properly swaddling the baby, you can help him or her feel much more secure.

Need more information?

If you need more information, no doubt you can ask your pediatrician or other health professional for more advice. However, simply asking other, more experienced parents what they have done in similar situations will give you valuable advice. The Internet is also great way to look for more information; there are also many self-help groups for new parents out there. If you're a new parent, don't worry. Pretty soon, you'll get the hang of it and be giving advice of your own to others. <bio>To learn more about general baby care tips and information visit our site at http://www.basicbabycare.com </bio>

All parents pass through a tedious period when their baby experiences baby colic. Baby or infant colic is a condition where you may find a perfectly healthy baby crying for no reason at all. Sometimes screaming also accompanies this crying and this situation is common amongst babies who are a few months old. At the age of eight months, the child may stop experiencing baby colic.

Colic is more common in the bottle fed baby, however, this does not imply that it is not seen in breast fed babies. There are cases of breast fed babies also experiencing baby colic and bouts generally occur during a specific part of the day, mostly early evening.

The cause has not been proven yet. It is found that the amount of colic in babies tend to differ from one to the other. Babies are generally considered to be suffering from baby colic even if, after all its causes have been ruled out, the baby keeps crying for hours daily, more than 3 days a week, throughout the month.

Colic was first assumed to be abdominal pain that developed with trapped gas in the digestive tract. However, it is no longer considered to be the only cause. Some doctors conclude that the baby's delicate nature, its developing nervous system, and the new and harsh environment it lives in all generally lead to baby colic. A condition called mild gastro esophageal reflux has also been linked to it. Sometimes, babies suffering from lactose intolerance may also suffer and circadian rhythms' effects, smoking of the mother and smoke in the air, along with existence of too much stress in the pregnant mother during the third trimester of pregnancy have all been found to be associated with baby colic.

There has never been any fixed medical treatment. The treatment of baby colic differs between medical practitioners and physicians of different countries. In fact, there are some physicians who advise the baby to be left alone, and let the baby colic run its course, as there is no actual cure for baby colic. Some doctors today advise simethicone to treat baby colic; this is effective in some cases, and not in others.

Allergies in the baby and mother have now been proven to be the major cause, so it is often advised to control the diet of the breastfeeding mother. This move has in fact produced amazing results. However, it does not necessarily cure it. Soothing measures like pacifiers and rocking have found to be rather effective in calming the baby during bad bouts. Parents generally try all types of methods to cure baby colic. If you have tried several ways, but still not able to solve the issue fully, don't feel disappointed. Baby colic will last only a few months. <bio>Jason Rickard is the owner of http://www.yourfavouriteshop.com - Offering White Noise and Relaxation CDs - Visit http://www.hapahapa.com for more articles </bio>

A puppy always tells his dog owner whether he is getting too much or too little dog food in several ways. Crying is one of the most often recognized, but least likely to be always accurate. Although hungry puppies do cry, so do cold puppies, hot puppies, puppies that were disturbed from a nap, lost puppies, sad puppies, etc. Crying is simply nature's way of giving a puppy a means of telling everybody that he is unhappy. Anything that makes a puppy unhappy will probably also make him cry, even having his tummy too full. Therefore, to say that a puppy is crying because he is hungry requires a judgment on the owner's part. And since we do not think like a puppy, we have to use the reactions of the puppy's system to determine whether or not he is getting enough to eat.

Every time you give dog food to a puppy, two things should happen. First, he should have a bowel movement and second, he should urinate. Sometimes a puppy may need a little encouragement by rubbing his anal area, but he should always perform both acts if everything is going right. The makeup and amount of his feces and urine are important clues that tell you how well you are doing when it comes to properly feeding your pet. For one thing, the puppy's stool should be formed as it is expelled, but its consistency should be soft and pasty. The color will depend to some extent on what you are feeding him. But in every case, it should not vary from a pale tan to a mahogany brown. The inside of the stool may be yellow-brown in many cases. Stools that are green, bluish-white or clear signal trouble. Even tan or brownish stools that are watery, lumpy, hard or curdled may indicate something is not right. Whenever either off-color or off-form stools occur, stop feeding all dog food immediately and skip the next feeding entirely .

Begin the following feeding with a formula that has been diluted one-half with boiled water. Continue to feed the same quantity as you did the undiluted dog food. If this fails to produce an improvement in the stool, reduce the quantity you are feeding by 25 % at each feeding. If stools continue to be off-color or off-form, consult your vet.

A puppy's urination is an indicator of his water balance. The quantity should be about the same each time the puppy urinates. It might be pale yellow to almost clear, but should never be deep yellow or orange. Also, it should always be like water and never like syrup and should smell like urine. Urine that is scanty, dark in color, or syrupy, indicates that the pup is not getting enough water. More water should be supplied, either added to the dog food formula or fed separately. If the urine seems excessive in amount, unduly clear, or thin, the water concentration of the formula should be re-checked to make sure that he is not getting too much water. If urine production stops altogether for longer than four feedings, take the puppy to a vet as soon as possible. <bio>John Mailer has written many articles about dogs and puppies and how to train them. His main business is as an internet marketer. http://www.howtostartonlinehomebusiness.com http://www.basicsdogtraining.com/dognutritionfood.html </bio>
