It seems that all television offers today is reality TV and crime series, but what is the reason for this? Both are extremely popular and have an incredibly large fan base, but what is the real appeal of these sorts of shows? When it comes to crime series in particular, there are a few different reasons believed to explain their overall popularity.

Why We Love Them

Crime series such as Crime Story and Wiseguy have reached heights of incredible popularity, and there are several reasons thought to be behind this. The most major is that people are interested in general by crime and how crimes are solved, and so shows such as CSI, for instance, which give us a detailed account of the steps that are taken to catch the bad guys really get our interest.

Not only that but they also include the audience as a part of the show, as throughout the duration of the show there are various hints and clues which are given that the audience can attempt to use themselves in order to piece the puzzle together.

Controversy

Although crime series are generally loved by all, there has been some controversy surrounding them, especially recently. For one there has been much debate on whether or not these crime series are playing a role in the increased rate of violence in the real world. It is thought by some experts that because more people are watching violence and crime in these sorts of shows that they are carrying this violence into their own life.

Research on the effects of not only violence in television but in the media in general has been conducted extensively over the past few years in particular, and whether or not exposure to media violence causes increased levels of aggression and violence in young people is really the question of media effects research these days.

Some researchers believe that it is the psychological effects of media violence that end up causing this aggressive type of behavior, while others focus on the ways in which media violence primes or cues pre-existing aggressive thoughts and thus could really not be avoided. There have been various studies and cases conducted on this issue, and yet even with all this controversy surrounding them, crime and other violent programs continue to be incredibly popular worldwide.

This issue is definitely one which should continue to be researched, because if by reducing the violence and crime shown in media we can decrease the amount of violence and crime in the real world, then there is obviously a real goal to work towards here. <bio>Do you watch crime series tv shows?
There are many people who dream of becoming crime scene investigators (CSI). Who can blame them? This job can be fun. If you don't believe me, just watch the television show, CSI: Miami.

But reality can be different. The role played by crime scene investigators on TV can be different from real life. This is why some things need to be set straight about the CSI career. This article will address the 3 things all aspiring crime scene investigators must know before they become one.

1.Those aspiring to be crime scene investigators must know that not all law enforcement agencies will hire a civilian CSI. There are various reasons for this.

One of the reasons is that the agency may not be big enough to dedicate a person to doing this job. So what these types of agencies do is have a police officer to play the role of CSI. This way, the officer can be doing other things when he or she is not collecting crime scene evidence.

Another reason is that the budget is just not there to support the position of a CSI. Like everything else in life, money is also an issue for law enforcement agencies. They have budgets and limited resources they have to live under. What these law enforcement agencies do when there is a crime is request for the help of a CSI from other friendly law enforcement agencies. This way, they save the cost of having a CSI on staff.

2.A CSI must be available to work 24/7. Crime has no appointed time. It can happen any minute or hour of the day. It does not know the weekend.

So, somebody who wants to work as a CSI must avail themselves at all times. You may be called in the middle of dinner or in the middle of your kid's birthday party. You have to be ready and willing to pick up and go to the crime scene.

3.In the past, most crime scene investigators were trained in-house by law enforcement agencies. Thanks to television, this is changing. You now have colleges offering CSI education. You can get anywhere from certificate to masters degree in crime scene investigation.

But keep in mind that all the education will not replace the additional training you will receive by the law enforcement agency that employs you. There is nothing like real life training and guidance from real life CSIs. But the education you get from college will definitely give you an advantage, both in getting the job and performance after you get the job.

I have covered the 3 things I believe you should know before becoming a crime scene investigator. There are of course other things you have to know. Covering every little thing is beyond what I can cover in a short article like this. I encourage you to continue to expand your knowledge if you aspire to become a CSI.

Note: You are free to reprint or republish this article.
Did you know that one of the easiest ways to ensure low rate car insurance for yourself is to drive a vehicle that is both safe and considered "low-profile"? It's true. You're more likely to get low rate car insurance on a minivan that you are a flashy sports car or SUV.

If you choose a safe vehicle, not only are you better protecting yourself and passengers, but you're also protecting the vehicle itself. Insurance companies will look at how much it's going to cost to repair your vehicle in the event of an accident, as well as how safe you and your passengers are going to be inside the vehicle in the event of an accident. Insurance companies are going to look at statistics such as crash test ratings and features such as air bags for both drivers and passengers, so you should research them as well when you head out to purchase your next vehicle.

Also, if you choose a "low-profile" vehicle, it's less likely to be burglarized, vandalized, and/or stolen. This is especially true for people who already live in areas that are considered "high crime" areas; that is, areas where a lot of crime, including auto-related crimes, occurs. Insurance companies can find information about particular vehicles by checking out the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) and the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI). These organizations keep track of vehicles that are most often burglarized, vandalized, and/or stolen.

So, the next time you set out to purchase a new, or even used, vehicle, do some research. Find out how safe the car is and how well it will hold up to collisions or other auto-related accidents by checking out the crash test ratings and safety components of the vehicle. Also find out whether or not the vehicle you have in mind is at a high risk for being burglarized, vandalized, and/or stolen. These factors will help you get low rate car insurance. <bio>http://www.myquoteguide.com/Car-Tips.shtml http://www.ezquoteguide.com/car/ http://www.ezquoteguide.com/health/ </bio>

The science of forensic investigation has been around for hundreds of years. In the past hundred years however, Forensic investigation has developed and the progress that has been made is astounding. The art of forensic investigation is used every day on crime scenes throughout the world. A forensic investigation refers to the investigation of a crime scene. A crime scene investigator reconstructs the crime scene, analyzing evidence and carefully documenting each one of their findings. If only one piece of evidence is documented incorrectly, it could put the whole criminal case in jeopardy, potentially setting a criminal free to run the streets.

Crime scene investigators are specially trained members of the police force. They are the first people on a crime scene, and only they can release any property or information once the investigation is completed. There are different types of forensics that fall into the category of forensic investigation. The most simple of type of forensics is fingerprint. This is when a crime scene investigator gathers finger print evidence from a crime scene and analyzes it to get a finger print match.

Perhaps the most recognized form of forensic investigation is DNA testing. This testing is done by testing physical evidence such as secretions or blood from a crime scene and testing it to determine if it belongs to the victim. It doesn't, the sample will reveal certain genetic markers including the blood type of the unknown person. In cases such as assault, robbery, rape and murder, an experienced crime scene investigator is critical. They are trained in what to look for and how to test the evidence. Even the smallest piece of dust or a single hair can yield a wealth of information to a trained investigator. A single hair found at a crime scene can literally tell the investigator if they are looking for a male or female, or if the hair belongs to an animal.

A trained forensic investigator can take a half eaten apple and use the bite marks as identification, sort of like finger prints, thus catching a criminal who thinks that he or that they got away with a criminal act. A forensic investigator not only investigates murder scenes, their services are also used to detect forgeries by handwriting analysis, and testing water for purity.

Performing a forensic investigation is a long and complicated process. Every inch of a crime scene needs to be processed, starting with collecting finger print evidence from every inch of the crime scene. Once the finger printing is done, the more tedious task of collecting every bit of dirt, dust, paper, clothes, fluid samples and everything else that is on the scene. Often, it takes weeks to process an entire crime scene. <bio>http://forensicshq.com/ Forensics HQ investigates the world of forensics and crime scene investigation. </bio>

I would like to take a look at the always-repeating problem of crime and punishment from spiritual point of view. What I will write in the following lines can sound rather oddly, but I am convinced it's really true. One way or other, as many people believe it, all what we are doing is ruled by beings who govern to our Destiny. And sometimes, these beings can even force us to commit crimes.

All through the ages, the same scenario is repeated: somebody committed a crime, hurted by it somebody else and then he is punished for it, whereas the both of them suffer - both the victim and the criminal.

As it is known, a violence - crime and punishment in given case - begets another violence. And this sizeable scenario does not solve the always-repeating cycle of crime and punishment at all.

Let the law-makers and various impersonators and executors of imperfect and to my opinion wrong human "justice" realize, that the Right and Justify Court over each crime should consist of the following:

1. The judging of the convicted.

2. The judging of the bad spirit who forced the convicted to commit a crime (crimes are always committed - through people - by evil spirits).

3. The judging of him who sent the bad spirit to force the convicted to commit a crime = the judging of the highest bad spirits.

4. The judging of the God for ordering the highest bad spirits to send the bad spirit to force the convicted to commit a crime.

5. The judging of the Highest Universal Might for ordering the God to order that the highest bad spirits.

6. The sentence and affranchise of all.

This only right court would make the only right verdict regardless of what crime it would deal with! - and that would be this one: "All are convicted and are not convicted, all are found guilty and affranchised." This from the reason that anything is linked with everything and anything is the result of all the other and so are all the crimes.

As for the solution to crimes in human society, I know three ways of atonement:

1) The only fully efficient one, although to my dismay unrealizable, is a way back through the time and prevention of the crime.

2) The temporary and only partial atonement of the crime is the increasement of happiness in another life of the victim's soul.

3) A real solution for our future is the cancellation of the alternating of excessive good and excessive evil (since every of these two opposites forces it's own opposite to come to existence = excessive good forces excessive evil like it's opposite to occur and excessive evil beget not only excessive good like it's opposite but also another excessive evil to be repeated itself) or the interruption of our Karma = a change and a reshuffle of the way by which we all exist - of the whole human society in the way that no crimes would be committed in it any more. <bio>I am the author of free ebooks on spiritual knowledge, martial arts and dogs.
Cities are a hive of activities. People go to schools, do their business, drive around traffic, and sell various things. Unfortunately, a city is also a thriving environment for notorious people and lawbreakers. It is not uncommon in any city that is everyday news about robberies, murders, speeding, DUI, or any other crime.

Due to the presence of these crimes and activities, law enforcement has developed ways and technologies to apprehend or at least monitor the perpetuators. For example, state police monitor regularly monitor freeways on the lookout for drug traffickers. Some policemen are assigned to go undercover and risk their lives during a stakeout. Other crude yet ingenious ways include placing realistic cardboard cutouts of police cars or officers to discourage criminals from doing their crimes! After all, a criminal would hesitate when he sees a police unit before committing a crime.

New technologies include the development of nonlethal weapons and the improvement of exiting technologies, such as, complicated databases and citizen identification. One of the more controversial technologies is the video surveillance camera. These cameras are located in many public places where police think that crime is most likely to happen.

In theory, video surveillance cameras can deter or even prevent crime. In theory, they are able to provide evidence for a crime. But do these theories really sound as good as they are?

To gauge how efficient surveillance cameras prevent crime is a somewhat problematic issue. That's because there are a lot of vague variables to take into consideration. No matter how skilled policemen and investigators are, they can't entirely be conclusive that a crime has been planned just because something suspicious came up in the surveillance report. In fact, other factors, such as, law enforcement strategies, the city's economy, and even the season can contribute to such vagueness.

For example, a recent study shows that since 2006, seventy-three cameras that are installed in the general Washington, DC area have never recorded footage that has helped solve crimes. For the local government, this has been a pain in the neck since it has invested millions of dollars for such equipment only to find out that the system is not as efficient as it was predicted.

So are CCTVs useless? It's far from it. Knowing that there are hidden cameras around, criminals now think twice before doing their nefarious crimes. In fact, the New York police department stated that along with increased police patrols, video surveillance cameras have made the crime rate in the Big Apple drop to 30 percent. This is especially true in high-crime neighborhoods such as in the Bronx.

Other U.S. cities reported the same results. For example, in New York city's urban housing centers, crime dropped at 36 percent. In Baltimore, crime rate dropped at 17 percent; in Philadelphia, 37 percent.

Aside from the more nefarious crimes, the presence of these cameras also reduced auto-related crimes and accidents by as much as 41 percent. And, of course, they are always helpful for post-crime investigations.<bio>Steve Strong's is an employee with Sun Security a leading supplier of <a http://www.sunsecurity.com/security-cameras-bullet-cameras-c-119_150.html">Bullet Security Cameras, Surveillance Camera Systems and 16 Channel DVR Security Cards.</bio>

A neighborhood watch group is an effective way to prevent crime and vandalism around your home. Since 1972, neighborhood watch groups have been helping to protect communities by working with local law enforcement agencies.

If you are thinking of starting a neighborhood watch group in your area, here are some tips to help you get started:

1,Get to know your neighbors. Find out what their concerns are and how they can help.

2,Contact local law enforcement agencies for training.

3,Choose a regular meeting place and have an agenda to keep the meetings on track.

4,Meet with your group often and decide on an action plan.

5,Get facts about your community's crime rate =96 check police reports and databases to find out what is happening in your area.

5,Canvass door-to-door to let your neighbors know what you are doing and find volunteers.

It is important to remember that a neighborhood watch group is not a vigilante group. If a crime or suspicious activity is witnessed, notify the police immediately. Notify police if you witness any of the following:

1,A crime in progress.

2,A vehicle making slow, repeated trips around your neighborhood.

3,A stranger hanging around homes or businesses, or going door-to-door.

4,Unusual noises.

5,Items being removed from a home without the owner present.

In addition to looking out for crime, neighborhood watch groups can provide many useful services to the community, including:

6,Community Education. Neighborhood watch groups can speak to schools and businesses about preventing crime, vandalism, or arson.

7,Escorting the Elderly. If there are seniors living in your community, your neighborhood watch group can help them get around safely.

8,Safe Houses/Block Parents. Elect one or two families in your neighborhood to host "safe houses." A safe house is a place where children can go if they feel afraid or need a trusted adult.

9,Neighborhood Beautification. Completing beautification projects out in the community not only feels good, but it deters crime. Clean up vacant lots, cover up graffiti, and send the message that you care about your community.

10,Promoting Personal Safety. Sponsor home security inspections in your neighborhood or host a self-defense class. Help your neighbors feel empowered to prevent crime and know what to do when one occurs.

A neighborhood watch group can be a great way to get to know the people in your community. With a little organization and support from local law enforcement, you and your neighbors can make a difference. <bio>Ralph Winn has over 32 years of education and experience in the security industry http://www.homesecuritystore.com </bio>

Are we all likely targets for crime? You would be correct, to some extent, if you answered this question in the affirmative. There is no one person that is immune from crime, but there are segments of our society who stand a greater chance of a run in with a criminal or criminal act.

These segments would benefit most by being familiar with ways to avoid being crime's targets. Recommended is that this group [as should all] become familiar with crime through crime reports and the recommendations contained therein. Obtaining some self-defense devices and learning how to use this technology is likewise, recommended.

Well, who are the people that make up this segment of our population and why are they more vulnerable?

They are more likely to be a victim of crime for various reasons including there age, their occupation, the time of day they work and the area in which they live. This list is not inclusive and there are plenty of combinations of scenarios that would also make a person more vulnerable.

Here is a short list of examples of groups of people and their occupations that would benefit from modern personal self-defense technology:

• Senior citizens • Night Shift Workers • Taxi drivers • Disabled persons • Delivery drivers • Babysitters • Postal employees • Bar maids • Joggers • Tourist • Retail clerks • Students • Health workers

The above list is far from exhaustive and the groups named in the list should be obvious to anyone giving it some thought.

We would hope that our communities would get the word out to this segment of the population, but we know that is not always going to be the case. In actuality, we must depend less on these agencies [including the police] to give us continuing and proper protection because their plates are full and they can only do so much. Sometimes we will have to take the matter and precautions into our own hands. Now is the time to give people the necessary tools and information they need to protect themselves and their loved ones. <bio>The author is active in the "war on crime".
One piece of information that can help anyone who is renewing or purchasing home insurance in Washington State regards the procedure required by insurance companies when it comes to raising rates. It seems all too common for an individual to secure a great insurance rate only to see it rise the next year. In Washington State, homeowner insurance companies have to justify any rate increase to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. Although this information is helpful regarding increases, everyone still wants to find the best rate possible.

There are a few tricks and tips that can help anyone who is looking for home insurance. The first is quite straightforward. If you live in a high crime area, consider moving. Home insurance rates are naturally going to be more expensive in areas where crime is rampant. The threat of property damage or burglary directly impacts the rates you'll be expected to pay.

If you're building a new home, consider what's holding it up. Homes made from wood generally cost more to insure. If a brick home catches fire, the damage could be contained, yet when a wood home meets the same fate, all too often, it's completely lost. It's a good idea to inquire about this with a home insurance agent before construction begins.

Some home insurance policies charge a premium for additional living expenses. If your home is damaged and you can't stay there, this coverage would provide for a hotel and some limited expenses. If you have family close by, consider having this coverage removed. You'll likely notice a reduction in premiums once that's done.

Finding the best rates for you is really an individual process. You have to weigh what is absolutely necessary in terms of coverage against any add-ons that you are willing to pay for. From there you can shop around until you find a policy that fits your home like a glove. <bio>Recommended sites for low rate insurance http://www.ezquoteguide.com/home/ Lowest Rates on Homeowner's Insurance in Washington http://www.myquoteguide.com Combined Home and Auto Insurance to Save Money </bio>

There are numerous crime shows filling the prime time slots. And you can find some version of Law and Order, CSI etc. on at any time of day on a number of channels. The writers are increasingly creative and have a tireless supply of inspiration from real life events that they can put various spins on. The actors are dedicated and the directors are creating stories that are engaging and elicit emotional responses.

I know that personally they are my favorite thing to tune in to when I watch television. I watch a complicated crime unfold and the story develop around it until the criminals minimal error is exposed and the perp is collared! Usually this error is exposed by using a combination of a mastermind underpaid detective and the limitless resources of forensic science. I have often feared that this information may be misinterpreted by some as instruction. The program lays out how to commit the crime, what errors to avoid and if arrested how to see your trial through to acquittal.

The truth of the matter is that the numerous crime shows and frequency with which they air are in fact having an effect on real-world expectations. This effect has earned its own buzz phrase named the "CSI Effect" which is also referred to as the "CSI Syndrome". This effect is described as the viewing of crime shows raising victims and jury members expectation of forensic science. The television writers can overstate the accuracy of forensic techniques as well as exaggerate the ability of forensic science. The expectations of crime scene investigation and DNA testing are especially affected. Prosecutors are being pressured to present more forensic evidence in court. Potential jurors are sometimes asked if they are viewers of Forensic Crime shows as this trend is being considered.

In a similar vein, there are findings that suggest that forensic science shows help criminals cover their tracks. According to Joshua Marquis, an Oregon prosecutor, "It's not uncommon for criminals to now bring bleach with them to sanitize the crime scene." Criminals are learning what not to leave behind at crime scenes and getting much better at covering their tracks. Crime show effects on criminals can also be looked at on a flip side which is much more positive. It is likely that the message being conveyed to many is that no matter how they try to cover their crime, forensic science will reveal their identity.

Whether we look at the positive or negative effects on the criminal, victim or juror, the cultivation theory is supported by any one of the findings. The cultivation theory holds that television cultivates a distorted worldview in which one's perception of social reality resembles the reality portrayed in the television program. When looking at crime shows, the cultivation theory would say that the impact on an individual would be the tendency to overestimate the rate of violent crime or the prevalence of law enforcement officials.

We are exposed to a plethora of crime shows. The writers are increasingly creative and have a tireless supply of inspiration from real life events. And it seems that life events are being equally affected by the shows themselves! The emotional responses that these shows tend to elicit are carried over into our views, opinions and expectations of real life scenarios.<bio>I have an extensive background in Finance and Fiscal Procedure.
Crime Scene Investigation or CSI as you may know it, because of the television show has become one of the most popular programs on network TV in the last few years. The original show also spawned the programs CSI: Miami and CSI: NY.

Those shows are created and produced by Anthony E. Zuiker. This article isn't about how to create a television show, but I wanted to point out the popularity of a career based on the general public's knowledge about it from television.

When the movie Top Gun was released in 1986, it helped the Navy and Air Force boost their recruitment. CSI has no doubt sparked interest in crime scene investigating and forensic science. Everybody wants to be in a field that is demanding, not just because of the allure but because a career that is being sought after has many benefits.

What does it take to become a crime scene investigator?

A college degree is not required but it can help to move you towards the list of people that will be considered for such a career. If you have a formal education, you'll also need to add other skills to your resume. Photography, computer skills and drafting are all essential in crime scene investigation. Just like the television show CSI, the people involved in gathering evidence also are able to process it and that includes a general knowledge of forensic science.

Some on the job training will be provided by the employer and if you want to extend your knowledge of crime scene investigation, it wouldn't hurt to visit a body shop to see how a car door is removed. This way you gain a better understanding of what goes into collecting evidence.

Some applicants will even ride with police officers or emergency medical technicians (EMT) to get a first hand look at crime and science. Those who spend time in a morgue will no doubt become familiar with what may become a regular scene of the human body.

Why become a crime scene investigator?

Good question!

Do you like science, or do you like gathering evidence to help solve crimes? Does medical curiosity draw you in?

All of those aspects go into crime scene investigation. So you need to ask yourself are you willing to investigate it further. You will be able to learn about other jobs while you are a crime scene investigator. You will work with local law enforcement, hospitals, medical labs and even law offices to present evidence.

Each area listed above uses crime scene investigators. You'll primarily learn to gather evidence and process the crime scene. You will also be working with a team. If you're the type of person who likes working alone, this might not be the best career choice.

Crime scene investigation can really be an exciting career for those that love the type of work described above. If you are interested, I urge you to investigate it further. You can do this by visiting websites that cover CSI in more detail.

Note: You are free to reprint or republish this article.
A question often asked is whether or not securing your car will help to reduce your UK car insurance premiums. Will this is certainly a factor you need to discuss with your car insurance company, you should note the following:

Steering Wheel Locks

While steering wheel locks may deter thieves from steeling your car, the fact is that most UK car insurance companies will not allow for the fact that you have one to affect the level of your car insurance premium. In short, if the thief is a professional, steering wheel locks are not much of a deterrent.

Immobiliser

If your car has an immobiliser system inserted -- such as the Thatcham Category 1 -- then you should be talking to your UK car insurance company about ways to reduce your car insurance premium. Indeed, as a security extra on the car in itself, your car having an immobiliser is likely to be the only factor your car insurance company will be willing to listen to when discussing ways to reduce your annual car insurance premium.

Garage

26 percent of all car theft in the UK last year took place right outside the front door of the car owner! So, if you have the ability to lock your car away at night in a garage, then mention this to your car insurance company as there is a very good chance that this will cause you to have a reduced car insurance premium! Remember, however, that if you arrange to have a car insurance discount based on the fact that you'll be locking your car away all night, you'll need to make sure that's exactly what you do -- otherwise, if your car is stolen from in front of your house -- you may find that your car insurer will not pay out!

Location

64 percent of car crime in the UK last year took place in the neighbourhood of the car owner! In most cases, these were inner city areas. Where you live, and the crime rate in your area, will have a major influence on the car insurance premium you are quoted. So, if you are being quoted a very high UK car insurance premium, it might be time to consider moving!

And finally...

Obviously securing your car is more than just about reducing your car insurance premiums -- it is about making sure no one steals your personal belongings. To this end, keep in mind that 90% of car crime in the UK is opportunist car crime, so make sure you minimise the chance that your car will be stolen by keeping your car safe and secure at all times. <bio>Joe Kenny writes for the UK personal finance sites http://www.ukpersonalloanstore.co.uk and also http://www.cardguide.co.uk </bio>

A recent look into the security of our homes has shown that many homeowners are almost leaving the door open and the welcome mat for thieves to enter their homes. It seems that many home owners are not taking even the most basic of steps to ensure that their property is safe and secure.

Even those who have taken precautions to ensure that their property is secure lapse, with those who have fitted such security features as alarms forgetting or, in some cases, admitting to not even bothering to activate them. A staggering fact is that 1 in 5 of all homes that are burgled are done so when the occupants are at home, yet despite this fact there are many homeowners that leave the back door unlocked while they are in another room.

The burglars themselves have admitted that the majority of home owners leave themselves prime targets and make their job so much easier. They say that home owners do such things as leave the windows wide open allowing them easy access, along with leaving keys near to letterboxes and so within easy reach for them to just unlock the door and walk in.

With crime rising it is essential that home owners don't make it any easier for thieves than it already is and to be aware that they are making themselves prime targets. Currently Britain has one of the highest rates of crime in Europe.

As the rate of crime is so high while it is essential that you ensure you do everything you can to keep the thieves out, it is also essential that you have adequate insurance should, despite your best efforts, you do become a victim of crime.

In order to determine the amount of cover which you need you should take your time and make an inventory of the items in your home and this will bring you to a rough figure. Of course you will have to take into consideration whether or not the policy will cover any items of particular value and take extra cover for these if need be. Always make sure you understand what the policy covers and doesn't and also check the many exclusions that are hidden in the small print of all policies. <bio>David Thomson is Chief Executive of BestDealInsurance (http://www.bestdealinsurance.co.uk) an independent specialist broker dedicated to providing their clients with the best deal on their home, motor and life insurance. </bio>

Here is something you must know about injuries resulting from crime. The criminal is not compensated, only the victim is, and he will only be compensated if it is proved that his physical or mental injury was caused by the crime. Even then, if it is proved, the victim will only be compensated if the crime happened within England, Scotland, or Wales.

And so it goes that even if you are British, you will not be compensated if the injury-causing crime happened abroad.

Unlike other types of injury claims where both sides agree on how much should be paid to the claimant, in injuries caused by crime, it is the Criminal Injury Board that sets the compensation in black and white. Your injuries must be severe because the board only has 25 compensation levels where victims are paid between GBP 1,000 to GBP 250,000. The maximum amount on a criminal injury claim, after losses and expenses, is GBP 500,000.

There are set guidelines on judging if your injury qualifies for compensation. To claim for criminal injury compensation you must have been assaulted or injured in such a way that you were severely mentally or physically damaged. The injury must be also be serious enough to qualify for the minimum award, and the crime must have happened in England, Scotland or Wales. Unlike other injury compensation claims, claiming compensation for criminal injuries can be done through the victim's own efforts without the need for a solicitor. When you make a claim, you are assigned a caseworker to work with you on finding evidence and documentation for validating your claim. However, your still need a solicitor to help you through the nitty-gritty of the compensation guidelines.

There are some things you must do first from your end before making a criminal injury compensation claim=96 receive medical attention and have you injuries documented, report the incident within 48 hours to the police, and apply for a claim within two years from the date of the crime. In cases where the victim died, his dependent or relative can make a claim.

Apart from physical and mental injuries, i.e., actual physical damage that injures the brain, a victim can also file a claim for mental anguish. However, again, the mental anguish must also be documented. It is easier to file a claim for certain crimes like rape, since there is already a lot of documentation on the physical and mental injuries that this crime can cause.

If you need help in your criminal injury claims, there are many no-win, no-compensation solicitors that promise victims hefty checks on their injuries in their advertisements. Often, in order to get paid, the solicitor takes a cut in the compensation, typically 10% to 30% of the actual amount awarded.

You cannot claim compensation for crime-related injuries if your injuries happened August 1, 1964. You also cannot make a claim if you already claimed compensation for the same crime under another compensation scheme in England. You also cannot make a claim for criminal injuries by family members for crimes that happened before October 1, 1979. <bio>Hunter writes articles for Start2Claim and Real Compensation No Win No Fee Personal Injury Compensation Solicitors http://www.start2claim.com/ http://www.realcompensation.co.uk/ </bio>

Many individuals are interested in the position of crime scene technician and how to get a crime scene technician job. This particular law enforcement position is extremely valuable when it comes to evaluating scenes, in which a crime occurred. It involves gathering evidence from that area, collecting and evaluating evidence, and concluding what occurred at a specific time, and any potential motive associated with the scene. This type of position is often referred to as "Forensic Science".

The individuals that perform this job as professionals work in collaboration with many different law enforcement departments, as well as legal professionals, and individuals in the criminal justice system. Typically, one way in the educational process is attending a criminal justice academy. This assists in providing an individual with the basic knowledge of law and the criminal justice system.

Another way is attending a criminal justice school.
Common sense dictates us to lock our doors at night and when we are away from home, but residential crime prevention comes in many other shapes and sizes. Effective residential crime prevention depends on everything from properly fitted doors to stopping your mail delivery when away on vacation.

The Basics

Residential crime prevention starts with taking the proper steps to secure the outside of your home. Basic residential crime prevention measures include installing outside floodlights, keeping your yard clutter free, pruning shrubbery so it doesn't hide windows and doors and cutting tree limbs back from upper-level windows.

Not every intrusion can be prevented. Knowing what to do when faced with different situations not only protects your possessions but can save your life. Ask all service and delivery people for proper photo identification, do not enter your home if something looks questionable, such as a broken window, opened door, or slit screen and leave your home immediately if you suspect someone is breaking into your home, and if you can't leave safely, lock yourself in a room and call 911.

Doors and Locks

Burglars, on average, spend no more than 60 seconds trying to gain access to a home. Installing proper doors and locks on your home makes breaking in more difficult and often deters burglars. The following guidelines for doors and locks significantly improve residential crime prevention: install solid wood or metal doors, fit each exterior door with properly fitted dead bolts, do not rely on knob locks or door chains; they are easily broken, secure sliding glass doors with commercial grade locks or place a sturdy dowel in the door track and never hide keys around the outside of your home; instead give a spare to a trustworthy neighbor.

Alarm Systems

An alarm system installed in your home, especially if you live in a secluded area or high-crime neighborhood, can provide needed residential crime prevention. To achieve effective residential crime prevention, you first need to evaluate your home's needs. Your home's location and surroundings determine the level of residential crime prevention you need. <bio>Ralph Winn has over 32 years of experience in the security industry.
Several studies have evaluated the impact of the rising U.S. home ownership rate on American's society. Besides boosting the economy (in 2005 alone, 16 % of total economic activity was from the housing sector), home ownership also provides other social benefits. A study conducted by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) found that home ownership positively impacts the U.S. society in at least five areas: social stability, educational achievement, civic participation, crime rates and participation in public assistance.

1. Promotes Social Stability: Homeownership has been found to contribute towards social stability. Since homeowners have greater financial stake in their neighborhoods, they typically remain in their homes for a longer period than renters, thus indirectly contributing to the stability to their neighborhoods. When compared to homeowners, renters are five times more likely to move.

The U.S. Census Bureau found that even between a homeowner and a renter of equal age, income and marital status, the renter is more likely to move out of his/her residence in a given year than a homeowner. Residential stability has been found to indirectly strengthen local social ties. The NAR Research concludes that homeownership does bring positive social outcomes with respect to housing stability or less frequent change of residence.

2. Improves Educational Achievement: NAR Research reveals that homeownership has a significant positive impact on educational achievement of children. Although it is difficult to point at one particular factor as the reason for better educational outcomes, many studies indicate homeownership as having a positive effect on the educational outcome of children.

3. Increases Civil Participation: Many studies reveal that homeowners have greater community involvement than renters. They are more politically active, participate in elections more frequently, and have greater awareness of the political process when compared to renters. Church attendance and membership in voluntary organizations were also found to be higher among homeowners.

4. Contributes Toward Lower Crime Rates: Homeownership and a stable housing helps contribute toward lowering crime rates. Homeowners have a greater financial stake than do renters especially in the case of property crimes or other crimes in their neighborhood. Hence, homeowners have more reason to prevent crime by working with the society and participating in crime prevention programs. The research also states that homeowners are less likely to become crime victims.

5. Lowers Dependency on Public Assistance: Homeownership and stable housing in a stable neighborhood brought down the rate of teenage pregnancy consecutively reducing the use of public assistance. Another research points out that homeowners are able to cope better after being laid off from their jobs because they can access their home equity credit lines rather than turn to public assistance.

Thus, besides improving the homeowner's financial status, increased homeownership brings in these numerous benefits to the American society. <bio>http://www.sdhomedatabase.com http://www.scripps-ranch-home.com http://www.scrippsranchcondos.com </bio>

If you were to commit to memory and put into practice the following 10 tips on avoiding crime, it would go along way in protecting you or your family from being victims of the criminal element in our society.

1. Be Alert! Keep your head up. Be aware of your surroundings. Stay in well-lighted, busy areas. Avoid walking alone and avoid known trouble spots.

2. Vary Your Routines. Predictability makes you a more likely target.

3. Lock It! Home, car, office -- locks are your first line of defense.

4. Make Your Home A Tough Target. Use floodlights, motion sensors, a security system, deadbolts, etc.

5. Foil Car-jackers. Keep windows/doors locked; check mirrors and blind spots when stopped. Stay one to one and a half lengths away from the car ahead of you when coming to a stop. This is necessary so that you have enough room to pull out in a hurry if someone approaches your car Sound your horn and flash your lights if you think you are approached by a car-jacker.

6. Avoid Car Theft. Lock it! As mentioned above this is your first line of defense. Use an anti-theft device. Turn the wheels when you park. This makes it harder for anyone who tries to move or tow your car. Never leave a spare key inside the car. Always park in a well-lighted place. Put packages in the trunk.

7. Be Creative. Think of unusual ways to protect yourself and your valuables.

8. Be Informed. Learn the crime trends in your area and work to protect yourselves against them. Knowledge and familiarized is great, but lack of knowledge or lack of being aware of your neighborhood or surrounding can be costly.

9. Get Involved. Have you joined or organized a Neighborhood Watch?

10. Do Not Give Up! Do not throw in the towel on "the war on crime." Crime can be reduced with action, not apathy! Do not get discouraged or become to comfortable with you daily routines, stay aware.

The following of this advice is good protocol no matter where you live and work. Whether it be city or suburbia, north, south, and east or west. <bio>The author is active in the "war on crime".
Retail crime is increasing and 86% loss of stock through crime or wastage was attributed to crime in 2005, according to a report released by the Centre for Retail Research in the UK in the latter part of that year.

The survey covered a large number of European retail businesses, who returned results that suggested that external burglary and theft by staff were the biggest causes of loss. These figures are rising and yet, in 2005, an estimated €7633m was spent on installing and updating security measures.

It's clear that deterring crime is a major challenge for retailers all over the world and, as with many such challenges, a combination of approaches is often the best solution.

Suspicious behaviour

Learning to identify suspicious behaviour is a key part of crime prevention. Retail managers and staff should be properly trained so that they know what to look for in terms of body language, verbal questions and recognised shoplifting tactics. The more skilled staff are in spotting these behaviours, the more likely they are to raise the alarm or step in before a crime is committed.

Placing of stock and monies

Most retailers want to put their best goods in the window or near to the entrance, to attract shoppers into the store. Unfortunately, unprotected, high-value goods can also attract criminals, so use alternative methods of display that deter thieves from trying to steal the merchandise. Examples of this could be lockable cases for jewellery and visible electronic tags for clothing. Similarly, you should have a secure method of dealing with cash payments, including times when money needs to be taken from the till.

Monitoring systems

A highly visible and advertised CCTV system can also act as a deterrent to retail criminals. Strategically-placed cameras that can be easily seen by staff and customers, together with noticeable warnings that monitoring is in place and the consequences of attempting to steal from your store can be very effective. You can always take advice from retail security specialists or community police officers who can advise you on the best way to run a CCTV system. <bio>Interlink Telecom is based in West Yorkshire and can supply and install CCTV systems and other security equipment.
I watched an old Alfred Hitchcock film the other night entitled I Confess. It starred a very young Montgomery Clift as a priest. The movie also stars Anne Baxter. At the beginning of the movie an immigrant murders a wealthy man from the town during a robbery on accident. After the murder he returns to the rectory where he works and confesses the crime to Father Logan played by Montgomery Clift. The next day when the murder is discovered, Father Logan must act like he knows nothing of the crime. However what the immigrant didn't know is that Father Logan would later be accused of the crime.

When Mike Logan returned from the war his sweetheart, Ruth played Anne Baxter had married another. He did not realize this until after spending one last night with her in an abandoned gazebo. The next morning the owner of the gazebo catches them and knows the husband of his sweetheart. Upon hearing that she is married, Mike Logan leaves and joins the priesthood. The owner of the gazebo, Mr. Villette, starts to black mail the young wife. After five years, Anne meets up with Father Logan and they decide to talk to Mr. Villette about the black mail. Unfortunately, he is killed the night before.

The police find out this information and start to suspect Father Logan of the crime. The interesting part of the story is seeing a man accused of a crime he didn't commit and knows who committed it, but is drawn to the loyalty of an oath not to reveal. Even up until the end of the movie when Father Logan is cleared and they suspect the immigrant he does not reveal who the true murderer is.

This is not one of my favorite Alfred Hitchcock films, but definitely worth checking out. If you enjoyed this movie I would recommend Hitchcock's others such as Strangers on a Train or Dial M for Murder. <bio> http://www.youshouldtryit.com/montgomery_clift.html </bio>
