One of the biggest concerns that can happen to a person is to lose the data off of their hard drive and it can happen when you least expect it. Many of us store personal and business information on our computers. Data viruses are a serious threat and very possibly they can delete some of your important data from your system. And like many of us, you may have accidentally deleted some data or important documents. Like many serious business owners you can't leave yourself vulnerable to these dangers as you have a lot to lose if you have no way of recovering lost data. That data is lost forever.

There is data recovery software that is capable of recovering any data should you lose it. And it's something any serious business person should have.

What Data Recovery Software Can Do

1)Recover any information that's been lost after virus attacks, software failures, power cuts or any other types of threats.

2)Undelete files or information that have been deleted.

The best way to avoid compromised data security is to put safeguards in place. A few common data security measures are encryption, antivirus and firewall protection. Encryption translates data into a secret code. To read an encrypted file you must have access to the key or password that enables you to decrypt it. There are many software programs and services that provide encryption services depending on your security needs. Other security measures are available such as anti-virus and firewall protection. There are some software programs that combine anti-virus and firewall protection for overall data security.

Some people take computer safety lightly but if you are an active computer user, it is vital to have a backup plan and additionally good software for data recovery just in the event you accidentally lose your data or in the event of a virus attack. For active computer users, data recovery software is a must whether you're a business owner or just a computer amateur.

Some people are reluctant when it comes to the cost of protecting their data, as well as the time involved in doing secure backups. What they fail to consider is the cost of their lost personal and productivity time that is spent trying to recover data that could be recovered in just minutes if they had properly taken the time to safe guard the data in the first place. If your computer data files are the lifeblood of your business and personal life, the time and money involved in protecting that data adequately and properly is worth the extra cost.

Data recovery either from a crashed hard drive or lost through compromised data security can be a frustrating and devastating experience. The best situation is to avoid the loss of data all together with regular computer backups and data security measures in place. Data recovery software takes only minutes to install and it virtually takes care of itself. Your computer data will remain where it needs to be, on your hard drive.

© Copyright 2006 Judy Howard <bio>We feature helpful advice on working from home discussing many things such as data security.
An important and vital element of computer security is the ability to retrieve information that has been lost. Data recovery software solutions save a tremendous amount of time, money, headache and hassle. How many times have you been working on an important document only to have your computer quit or shut down before you can save your work? It happens from time to time, and it's an enormous nuisance when it does. Fortunately, there are ways you can always protect and store your data. Backups are the most common, affordable and simplest way of ensuring your data is never permanently lost.

Data backups involve simply saving and storing your work or documents in a location other than on your computer's desktop or hard drive. Let's say you're working on a very detailed, very extensive report. You can easily save it on your desktop. But what if for some reason your computer security fails, or what happens if it's infiltrated by spyware, or if your antivirus software fails? Then you're stuck with no report, and no way to enable data recovery.

By simply saving your report to other locations, you can save countless time, money and frustration in it comes to attempting to recover your data. Email the report to yourself =96 that way, you can work on it wherever there is a computer handy. Burn the report onto a CD, save it onto a disk, or even download it onto a jump drive. You can even print out a hard copy of the report from your computer. Security measures are only effective when every possible avenue of possibility has been exhausted. By saving your vital information onto a variety of different locations, it does not matter if your wireless security, or your laptop security has been breached =96 you have increased your possibility of total data recovery exponentially.

If however, you have not created any data backups and still require data recovery software and solutions; there are companies and firms who specialize in that particular area of computer security. These are skilled professionals who can locate and retrieve information that has been accidentally wiped out or deleted. They can also locate any documents or files that have been lost due to a failure in wireless security or laptop security. They also can target and sources of spyware, and suggest to you antivirus software that can prevent your data from being lost ever again.

It's important to understand and realize that if your data has been lost because of faulty computer security, you should locate and fix the problem immediately. Hackers and crackers are becoming more and more sophisticated with their programs, worms and viruses, making data recovery that much more difficult to achieve. Data backups are the simplest, easiest and most affordable way to protect your vital documents and information. How many times have you seen that terrible message "the application word has unexpectedly quit"? It's frustrating and annoying, because all that hard work you've done is lost and you need to start over. It's also annoying when you lose your data because of spyware, viruses, or faulty laptop security or wireless security. These are issues that can be fixed so that you'll minimize your needs of attempting data recovery in the future.

Regardless of how you use your computer, you are always saving information on it. Don't allow your PC security to be compromised to the point where your files get lost and you require expert data recovery services. Make certain your computer is always protected from viruses, spam and spyware. <bio>Micheal Coley specializes in data recovery tips and techniques, having suffered from it once too often.
One of the fastest growing segments of Internet connectivity today is Wireless Internet. Wi-Fi, or Wireless Fidelity, is Internet connectivity over dual band networks that are classified by a set of standards most commonly referred to as 802.11, 802.11a, and 802.11b. Although there are several other standards, these three are the most common at this time. Access over these types of networks is available in most major cities in the United States, and the technological standards used to define Wi-Fi access are in use in many other countries.

The 802.11 standards can be classified by several unique features, as well as the potential speed available. 802.11a and 802.11b are currently considered the two fastest wireless network standards offering uploads up to 11mbps and downloads at a brisk 54mbps. Clearly these speeds can compete with any satellite or DSL Internet offering, and many cable services are significantly slower.

Security Issues:

The convenience and ease of use of Wi-Fi connectivity also comes with several security issues. Along with the standard security concerns inherent in a wired connection, data sent and received via a wireless connection can be intercepted and received almost anywhere within a given range. With the introduction of Wired Equivalent Privacy, or WEP, encryption has become a standard security measure with almost every wireless high speed internet connection. Even with a WEP key in place the wireless data can be captured, it is simply unlikely that the information would be useful. Of course a determined hacker could eventually access the data, but this would be the exception not the rule.

A more common Wi-Fi security problem is referred to as an Evil Twin Attack. This type of attack takes place when a hacker hijacks a wireless network signal. The hijacker creates a wireless access point in their own laptop computer, basically offering a wireless network to anyone within range of their signal. The hacker then enters a popular wireless access area such as a coffee shop or mall and makes their network available.

When a user tries to log into the network offered by their favorite coffee shop, it is possible they mistakenly choose the hacker's wireless access point. This is a way a hacker can bypass many security measures often including encryption. Every packet of data sent or received via an Evil Twin is available to the hijacker. There are several security measures that can be taken to avoid an Evil Twin attack as well as other dangers. These include:

=95 Use WPA or WPA2 security. This configures all security keys at the router, and prevents any unencrypted data from being sent. This is often only available with a home service.

=95 When setting up home wireless access, rename the network from the factory preset to something unique. This will insure that the correct network is always used.

=95 Never log into a wireless network that does not use Secured Socket Layer (SSL) security.

=95 Use a smart software client that encrypts all data before it is ever sent to the Internet.

=95 Try to only use a wireless connection that provides Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA). WPA further strengthens the security provided by WEP. <bio>Jon Norwood is a managing partner of the http://www.high-speed-internet-access-guide.com, a site dedicated to providing reviews of broadband Internet service providers, as well as information on wireless Internet service and satellite Internet. </bio>

Computer Data Recovery

Data Disk Recovery, does anyone really think about it when they buy a new operating system? I guess many of us wouldn't. Most people wouldn't think that something would go wrong until it happens to them. When we think about Data Recovery Services or any kind of Data Recovery it's something one would not like to even consider taking on. If your PC just decides to stop functioning or you accidently removed software or data that you need, one may think that this info is now lost and unrecoverable. Even supposing one had use of information recovery software on your personal computer, it makes ones feel somewhat at ease knowing that if data is lost we can get it back at a click of a button.

Quite a lot of people do not comprehend is that there are many reasons why things can go horribly wrong on their pc system. Whether it is your own computer system you are responsible for, or a small company computer, if you have a way to go about restoring the data when things go pear shaped can be of the utmost importance. The computer system could possibly run a lot slower or be filled to the rim of malicious spyware from your surfing habbits and this can ruin your files or even hijack your private data such as credit card details, passwords, etc. Terrible as it may seem, at a click of a mouse all that information could be damaged and you wont be able to get it back by the normal methods. Bad weather storms can cause power serges without giving you much notice and you could lose the data this way as well.

This is not the only way one could lose the data on their pc I would imagine a lot of people feel this wont happen to them, but in reality it happens to a lot of people. Whether you're a professional computer operator or a novice, it happens. To to avoid this happening I would suggest to find some hard drive and data recovery software to be on the safe side. Don't get left behind the pack, keep ahead of the crowd, save that time consuming process of having to re-install your operating system and you can't go wrong if you take the steps now to get yourself a hard drive disc and data recovery utility, it's not that expensive, though some versions are, simply google for them to find the best ones out there that fits your budget. <bio>If you would like more information on http://computing.ask-me-about.com/xcalcs-subnical-permission-security-recovery-tools.html with fast tools then pop by for some of the common problems and the solutions. http://computing.ask-me-about.com </bio>

Do you know all possible ways to take information out of company so that no one would know about this? I'm sure, even there are some certain security rules there are still some possible ways for information leakage. Let's think about how can we control this process.

First, it's necessary to understand that there no any absolute means about security. Even if USB port it blocked, it's still possible to write some data to USB, if there is system that controls outgoing mails, then it's still possible to use some trick that intruder might use to send out important data out of the company.

So how to manage information security policies to prevent possible data leakages? Let's list all possible ways to prevent leakage. There are two general categories - active and proactive security. These terms are sometime hard to understand in real word, so let's discuss another approach. There are means that will help to prevent the fact of information leakage, and there are means that will help to find out, if information was leaked. Both methods should be considered when building information security at your company.

How to prevent information leakage. First, it's necessary to apply a security policy which will guaranty the access to the certain data only for trusted persons, in this way you will always know who has access to the data, so it is easier to find possible intruder and to control your employees.

Second, consider all possible ways for information to be stolen, such as sent out by email, copies by some employee, stolen by some spyware software, copies to the external drive, etc. Think about all possible ways and think about risks applied. Try to minimize the risk for the most important data.

Let's list some possible security issues and the ways how we can get rid of them.

Keyloggers and other spyware software. Keylogger is a program that works in background, records all keystrokes and send out information to third-party. The good idea is to start with firewall, which will allow access to the internet only for a certain programs.

Intruder insider your company. Statistics shows that there are some in most companies. The bad news is that these people might produce more damage that all other attackers. Make sure you know about what employee do, what he or she keeps on his hard disk and all you do comply with privacy policy of your company.

Hardware that might be dangerous. There are software that allows to lock USB ports, there are software that allows to block access to any other writeable media, consider installing these tools on computers and user accounts which doesn't need to use this functions during their work.

Finally, the key principle about fighting information leakage is to be proactive. You don't need to wait until some information will be stolen, being a little paranoid will help to save your business. It's easy to install and integrate into the security policy some audit measures, that will regularly check your company for possible security holes, it's simple, but it's work. <bio>If you are concerned about data leak, check Sam Miller web-site: http://www.findprotected.com/ </bio>

VoIP security has been called in question recently, though there is little evidence to indicate that VoIP security is any less than conventional telephony systems.

VoIP voice data is transmitted via a packet-switched data network using IP. VoIP systems can carry a significant higher number of calls, and very much faster, than traditional PSTN networks due to compression of the voice packets, modern broadband technology and a number of other gateway developments which have reduced the previous packet delivery problems to an extent that the protocol is now a viable mainstream telephony solution to most business needs.

VoIP security should therefore be shown to be at least as effective as that of traditional telephone systems.

There is actually very little difference between VoIP security and that required for any other type of data transmission system. Look on it the same as you do your email system. The same as your office LAN if you have one. You probably have a system in operation whereby only authorized personnel can use certain aspects of the network. VoIP security can, and do, use the same techniques.

However, having said that, let's have a look at potential weak points in VoIP security that budding hackers may see as good points of attack.

IP PBX CALL MANAGEMENT BOXES

PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange, and is piece of software running on a server. It's function is to deal with all the switches and connections involved in the telephone system. These can be attacked by hackers or viruses which could compromise sensitive data. VoIP security systems are designed with this risk in mind.

PBX equipment should be placed behind firewalls, locked down and regularly monitored for unwarranted intrusions using intrusion-detection software. It is also possible to put the server in a different domain from the rest of the system, making it much more difficult for intruders to reach. PBX security is a basic aspect of VoIP security systems

GATEWAYS AND DATA PACKETS

The gateway's job is to convert voice to data packets, transmit them then receive and convert the packets back into voice. These are a potential VoIP security risk in that thy can be hacked into unless there is an access-control system in place to prevent unauthorized people from accessing the system. VoIP calls should only be permitted to specific people, and most good VoIP security systems allow only authorized user to operate VoIP systems under password control.

The data packets themselves can be hacked into using data-sniffing techniques. This can be a serious VoIP security risk and packet sniffers, as they are often called, capture binary data passing through your network and can reroute it to a computer on another network for decoding into a readable form. In order to do this, the `sniffers' has to be on the same network wire as the packet is using to reach its destination. The problem in installing an effective VoIP security system is that there is usually a lot of information passing at any one time, and the hacker has a higher probability of getting useful information than from a conventional telephone system.

Encrypting VoIP traffic and routing it through a virtual private network would reduce the VoIP security risk, and most corporate systems have multiple encryption layers for external messages. Internal security could be improved by running internal VoIP messages through this corporate network. Small businesses should seek the advice of their supplier, or of a security expert if they feel that they may be subject to such attacks.

However, VoIP security advisors can point small to medium companies in the right direction. Corporate VoIP security is generally not so much problem in that it is normally contracted out to expert advisers.

In the final analysis, however, there are no real differences between VoIP security and the normal security concerns associated with any data network service, such as normal office internet and email LANs. The security firewalls and restricted access to use, common on these systems, should suffice to deal with VoIP security <bio>Peter is an industrial research chemist with almost a fixation with data transfer systems, starting with audio and video file formats and codecs, and here with telephonic transmission systems which allow what is commonly known as VoIP. His fascination with subject is obvious from his website: http://www.data-voip-solutions.com </bio>

Saving a hard copy of all vital information can require more space than many businesses have room to accommodate and in the digital age, it only makes sense to use electronic data storage devices on which to maintain online data backup of every conceivable type.

Modern data storage devices allow users to store as much information on a one-inch square microchip that would, on paper, require a four-drawer file cabinet. Access to the information is also faster as electronic searches can recall the information more rapidly than searching through file cabinets.

Regardless of which data storage device is used, the prime concern is the security of the information as well as the stability of the data storage device. Data Rebound prides itself on its unmatched safety and reliability of its data storage devices. Your files are encrypted and sent in a secure socket layer tunnel providing additional security for the transfer. The outcome is that your information is completely protected and the only one who has the key to decrypt your data is you.

Some of the main concerns people have in choosing data storage devices include the unpredictability of the information, meaning how well it is preserved on the media without becoming corrupted, and the ability to access the information. Ideally, data should be recalled in any random order without additional time required to pull it off the data storage device. Data Rebound can diminish your concerns with our state-of-the-art data backup facilities that are environmentally controlled as well as protected by security personnel on a daily basis. You will also have the ability to restore any files to your computer for immediate recovery.

Data backup is probably the most important factor involving the use of computers. There are many reasons why data backup is one of the most important aspects of data storage. For instance, no matter where you are saving your information, there is always a chance that your computer will crash. Essential information and data saved on your computer will be lost if the computer is stolen. A huge risk of owning a computer is the possible infection of a virus, which has the potential to crash your hard drive. At Data Rebound you can choose what data you want to backup and how often you want it backed up. For example, you might want to do a data backup every day, or every other day, etc. Once our software is set you will never have to worry about data backup again. Our software will automatically run, continually backing up your data as often as you would like.

Data Rebound is the leading provider of online data backup solutions. We are backed by over 4 decades of experience as well as the understanding of the needs and wants of our customers. We guarantee a reliable and secure online data backup. Our belief is that you only benefit from data backup if your computer crashes or a disaster occurs. This is why we offer the Pay-per-restore option.
In today's world, where businesses depend on technology, saving information and other important data has become a very serious concern. Because personal information of clients and company's valuable data are kept within their computers, hosting an online data backup has become a successful and profitable business.

Online data backup services work because they provide businesses with a way to save all their important information. This is accomplished by uploading the data via the Internet into a secured, online database. Because of this, businesses will never have to worry about loss of information, struggle with backup software, or lose money when their database of clients is erased.

Due to the popularity of this simple concept, and the development of numerous companies hosting online data backup, it is important to consider several factors before choosing a company to host your data. For instance, ask about the company's security in terms of their offsite storage, time required to upload and backup information, and duration of storage and restoration before inquiring about service charges.

Choosing an Online Data Backup Company

Small businesses often benefit from online data backup services because they don't have the money hire people to backup their data every day. Although backing up your data online may be an effective solution to store important information, it is important to understand that of all the hundreds of companies offering online data backup, half of them provide excellent services, while the other half should be avoided.

In terms of performance, be aware that several factors will influence how well a company can upload and store your data. These include your internet connection, number and size of the data that you need to backup, duration of uploading and restoring, as well as the technology used by the online data backup provider. For this reason, it is a good idea to ask the company how long it would take for you to backup and restore a certain amount of data, for instance, two or five gigabytes.

The items you wish to backup will affect the duration of uploading and restoring. Some companies only backup their documents from the main server once a week. If this is your case, it will only take a few minutes to backup. However, if you want to backup all your servers, workstations and databases every day, then you will spend more time in the backup process. In this instance, you should ask the provider about the protection or security of their online data backup services.

Costs of online data backup services will vary depending on your preferences, such as the amount of data to backup, the level of performance you require, the services you select and other packages you wish to subscribe to. <bio>Andrew Manifield is the owner of http://on-data-backup.com, the best source for all the information you might need on the subject of Data Backup. </bio>

Whether your computer is for business or personal use, losing your data is tragic either way. Your data is your life, keep it protected and secure! This is why you should always have a data backup plan! There are many different data backup methods to choose from. You can use a zip drive, USB drive, a secondary hard drive or simply use a CDR/DVD writer and copy your data onto CDs. What ever method you use, your system should be backed up at least once a week.

A simple and easy method is to get 4 blank CDs and label them week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4 and also write the month and year. Then, at the beginning of each week, backup your data onto the disc labeled for that week. Do this for each week every month, so that if your computer was to crash you will only at the very least be one week behind on your data. This way it wouldn't be so devastating and it will be much easier to recover.

Another simple method is to use an online storage service. This method is the most popular and one of the best options for data backup. Here are some of the reasons why this is the best option.

Number one is SECURITY!!

With an online storage service, you never have to worry about losing your data or your data being destroyed. You can always be sure that your most important data is stored safe and secure.

Number two is AVAILABILITY!!

With an online storage service, you access your data whenever and wherever you are. You can be sitting at your home, or visiting family and friends in another state or country. You will always have access!

Number three is SHARING!!

With an online storage service, you can easily share your data with business cliental or even your family and friends! You can share any data you may store, whether it is important documents, or simply photos from your child's birthday! Sharing is simple and easy!

For whatever purpose you use an online storage service, make sure to pick the most perfect and secure one for you, and make sure it is always password protected in a safe manner.

You should never use an obvious password. You should never use anything like your date of birth, the city or state you live in, your name or even your social security number. One of the safest ways to make a password is to use letters and numbers and make the letters in different cases. This makes it harder for anyone to guess. And you should never use the same password for everything. Yeah it may seem easy for you, but remember, it also makes it easier for someone to access your information and accounts or, even worse...steal your identity. So make sure to always be secure and backup your data.

Did you know that 70% of businesses that lose their data never fully recover and go out of business within a year?

That is why it is very important to backup your computer as often as possible. You can even use the old-fashion floppy disc if necessary. But backup your computer as often as you can and do it now before disaster strikes and it is too late and you lose everything!

Remember 76% of data loss is due to hardware failure or simple human error!

Hurry up before it is too late! <bio>Elizabeth is a researcher/writer who is a successful website publisher. http://www.treksoftware.com </bio>

Once there was a time when a person or company's files were placed in boxes, sealed with tape and placed into a warehouse. With today's movement to digital media, data storage solutions, while requiring less physical space, present additional challenges. Everyone considering where to keep their data files needs to look at a few things to determine their needs and the best method of keeping their information secure.

For personal information the data storage solutions are fairly straight forward. You can transfer all the files you want in storage onto compact disks or data tape backup systems and store them in a safe and secure location. Many choose to utilize bank safe deposit boxes for high security information such as financial data and funding information, but you will want to be sure you can access the information rather quickly.

For businesses, the data storage solutions may be a little more complex depending on the type of date you are storing. Customer information and records will need to be secure and unavailable to others. The cost of such secured storage may be high, but it will be less than the cost incurred if someone is able to obtain that information and begins using your customer's personal data to steal their identity. The cost of customer notification and your loss of reputation would far exceed the secure storage cost.

Separate Backup Server May Be The Answer

Many businesses are installing a separate server offsite for data storage solutions, allowing only limited access to the information for security reasons as well as having the ability to get to the information whenever it is needed. By having the server offsite it also provides protected space for business critical information that can be readily accessed and moved back to your mainframe in the even of a problem.

Lessons learned too late include that many of the portable storage devices have a glitch in their design that may cause the inadvertent loss of data. Using USB memory chips for data storage solutions has left some without the information available when they need it the most. Compact disks have also been found to drop information over time and are not considered the answer for most data storage solutions.

Before looking into data storage solutions available, determine how much space you will need, today and in the future, the type of information you will want to store and the length of time it needs to be stored. You can also look into companies offering online data storage solutions, if your information is not business critical. <bio>Simon Peters is the owner of http://on-data-backup.com, it is THE best source for advice on the subject on backing up your data, nothing to sell, just information . . . </bio>

Learning about data backup and restore procedures is incredibly important, especially so that you can be aware and informed in case a bad situation ever happens to you. For instance, if suddenly the power goes off and you were working on something it could be deleted, however if you know and understand about the available data backup and restore procedures, then you are really going to be prepared and thus will be able to do something about it.

What are the Data Backup and Restore Procedures?

There are actually various different data backup and restore procedures, however there are certainly the most basic that should be learned about, and the most common data backup and restore procedures would be just the regular way, as in how most people do it on their computer, which is to have an automatic data backup retriever on the system.

This way, if the power goes off or for some other reason your computer turns off when you weren't planning it to, and you were working on something and it ends up that you didn't save your files in time, this backup and restore procedure is already in place so that your files can be retrieved once you turn the computer back on.

However, you should know that there are further steps that can be taken in regards to your backup and restore procedures, and so you are going to want to make sure that you take all of the necessary steps that you need to, and this means speaking to a professional so that someone who knows what they are talking about will be able to let you know for sure what you are going to need.

Basically the results will depend on how much time you spend on the computer, as well as how upgraded your computer is and thus how likely it is to keep from failing on you. Once all of this is taken into consideration, then the professional will be able to figure out what the best data backup and restore procedure would be for you in particular.

None of these procedures will be all that expensive, and so you can definitely rest assured in knowing that you will not have to spend an insane amount of money simply over getting a data backup and restore procedure for yourself, which is obviously a very good and positive thing overall. <bio>Simon Peters is the owner of http://on-data-backup.com, it is THE best source for advice on the subject on backing up your data, nothing to sell, just information . . . </bio>

The almost flawless convergence of personal computers and the Internet brings convenience to a whole new level in the 21st century. Not having to leave the comfort of your own home to purchase the latest novel by your favorite author or getting your hands on that rare collectible via <a href="http://Amazon.com" >http://Amazon.com is the ultimate in convenience. Shopping online just beats having to sit through traffic and standing in line to pay for the goods that you want. Online banking is another example of the advantages that we have today that did not exist a few years back.

Banking through the Internet enables us to make transactions like checking our account balances, making bill payments and fund transfers without having to deal with unfriendly or overly friendly bank employees. In utilizing our computers for performing the tasks mentioned, we tend to forget that vital personal information has been stored in our computers or in the database of the site where we make our virtual shopping sprees. It has become part of our daily lives, a routine, that we become oblivious to the basic fact that our computers hold a significant amount of data that translates into the who, what, how and where of our being.

Malicious individuals with even the most basic programming knowledge can make use of complex codes to violate your personal space online. Siphoning off personal information from your computer with your participation through phishing or without your involvement through remote access is a common practice among Internet scam artists and hackers. The data they're usually after are credit card or bank account information, social security numbers and other personal details.

A slighter kind of intrusion can annoy you with harmless yet irritating programs or make your life really complicated by trashing your system with a malevolent virus.

Trojans, worms and other malicious software abound in cyberspace and there is no shortage of nasty characters to use or create them either. Loathing these people after the fact is common but that will soon be replaced with a feeling of inadequacy as you begin to blame yourself. You'll ask yourself why you didn't take time to download the latest security patch for your operating system or updated the virus definitions of your antivirus software. There really is only one thing you can do to combat data theft or electric incursions and that is arming yourself with the right information at the proper time.

Knowledge about your system's security issues, vulnerabilities and fixes will get you far with regards to data protection and "wellness" of your machine. Therefore, information will be your primary ammunition against various attacks whether they are specific assaults or just random annoyances. Information about computer security of any kind can be had in an instant in the net. Blogs and websites offer advice and tips for free, so there's really no excuse for us not to be vigilant. It is our responsibility to be in the know when it comes to plugging security holes in our system. Read up and you'll be on your way to a trouble free and more secure computer system. <bio>http://www.IT-Security-Blog.com </bio>

The realization about the need to prepare for safeguarding crucial data on your hard disk may come a little too late when the computer or the hard disk has crashed. Data loss could mean, for a small business, going out of business unfortunately, sometimes permanently. Rebuilding years of data is out of question. It is pertinent to know the whys and hows of data loss in order to understand data recovery better.

Important Causes of Data Loss What you hoped will not occur, perhaps because of no reason, could always hit you hardest unless you are safeguarded against them. Computer running slowly could be because of spyware scrupulously installed could be working behind screens to destroy or transmit data to their masters eventually causing hard disk to crash. Others like electric storms, power surges, mechanical failures, fires and floods and user errors (sometimes in disregard of warnings) could affect your computer without any or sufficient warning.

You could also loose data because of sudden but unintended deleting of files or programs. Accidental disk format, virus attack, partition loss are some more causes for data loss.

Data Protection Data protection is the best policy than ruing over the loss. You can make use of trusted data backup software which automatically backup your data regularly, if you can't do it yourself manually. Keeping backup of backups will safeguard you against the worst eventualities, too. Turn off your computer immediately as you hear strange noises like creaking run of hard disk. It is also wise to unplug power cords, modem and telephone cables when you are going out of home or office for a long time.

Data Recovery The first thing you need to understand when dealing with data recovery is not loosing cool. Never act in haste and don't attempt data recovery yourself unless you are an old hat at that. Call for professional help from your area and who you know.

Data recovery software does a neat job in most of the cases. There are quite a few reliable softwares available, no matter what platform your computer operates on. Data recovery softwares are available for Mac, Windows, Linux, and so on. Don't attempt to use the software yourself out of gut feeling. If you must, check for user friendly personal packages.

An average company in US alone spends anywhere between $100,000 and $1 million in total for desktop-oriented disasters. This should more than emphasize the need for data safety and disk recovery. <bio>Alan Ross is a regular article contributor on many topics.
The technology moves fast and leaves us with gizmos and gadgets, which are more and more functional, and at the same time smaller than we have ever thought they could be. What's more, the technology also adds these gadgets the mobility so that they can be used as and when required, wherever they are required.

One such device following the suit is your hard drive and with the introduction of an external hard drive, what you get is data storage and security with added mobility. These are the hard disk drives (HDD) that are actually placed outside of the computer system. With the data security, mobility and an option to remove this drive, you can take all your data with you.

The external hard drives or HDD are built to perform externally. This means that the HDD comes with built-in cables that allow you to interface with your computer system. While the conventional HDD connectors would use SCSI or SATA cables that connect to a type of HDD connector inside your computer, the new variants of this external HDD uses an innovative and simple method of connecting via the USB or the FireWire.

Most of the external HDD come with the ability to backup the data from your PC. The only limiting factor for the HDD as on today is the cost, as they tend to be more expensive as compared to the internal HDD with the same capacity.

These devices are purely meant for data storage and backup but how much data can it store? There are many options available for you as far as the data storage capability of this device is concerned. Usually, the most common drives are of the same size as a normal hard disk inside your computer.

However, there are many other storage disks that are available at this point of time, with as much as 1000GB of data storage capability. With this amazing speed of the technology, it won't be too long before we move into true Terabyte reign. These huge storage capacities are responsible for this device rapid popularity as popular form of computer backup for the computer users.

The reasons to opt for this particular device are many, for instance, it provides the user with convenience and simplicity of use. This is so as most of the computer owners are not comfortable opening the cases of their computer and installing additional hardware. This is eliminated when you simply opt for this device rather than an internal HDD.

With this particular device there is no need to open the PC case, instead you simply need to plug it in and go. Another advantage of the external HDD is its portability and mobility. Compared to the internal drives, external drives can be moved from PC to PC in a matter of minutes, simply by unplugging them from one and plugging them into another.

Thus the external hard drives are often used in the business world, especially by traveling employees. Traveling employees can instantly sync up the data on an external hard drive with that on their desktop or laptop PC, and then easily carry that data anywhere in the world. This also might eliminate the need of carrying the laptop. <bio>For more information visit our website http://www.laptop-harddrives.net </bio>

With so many computer viruses lurking on the Internet ready to attack your computer, it is important that you are prepared for and know how to fend them off even before they arrive at their intended destination. Computer viruses can conceivably delete or destroy all the data on your computer. Worst of all, they can extract information from you computer and transmit it to other computers along with the virus itself.

It is essential that you protect your computer with an anti-virus security program which you can either download from an Internet merchant or buy at any computer software store. A good anti-virus program is one that is capable of detecting and blocking incoming viruses before they hit your PC, as well as detecting viruses that are already there. Once the virus is detected, your anti-virus program should be able to safely quarantine, repair, or simply delete infected files so your computer retains its optimum health and functionality.

There are three types of computer viruses that should be of concern to you. The first is a common and standard computer virus that is typically delivered through the medium of a launched program on your computer. The virus will then spread throughout your system and eventually infect other programs that it reaches. Most security software is designed to protect you against such viruses, but there are new viruses being developed every day by computer thugs, so it is vital that you keep your anti-virus definition file updated at least weekly.

The second type, and the one for which you are likely most familiar, is the email virus which can be sent unknowingly from person-to-person before being detected. These viruses are hidden in an email message; opening that message on the receiving end activates the virus. It can then collect, for example, the email addresses you have registered in your email client and send copies of the same virus to every person on your contact list. Most email services have built in protection that scans messages for viruses as an email is received, but the best protection is know what to look for in the first place. Email viruses "hang out" in emails from unknown sources and in attachments, usually from people you do not know.

Finally, the most dangerous of the computer viruses is the "worm." This type of infection has the ability to worm its way from computer to computer across the Internet or a local area network. They copy themselves directly onto a computer without being notice, so you might not be aware you have one until your data is completely stolen or gone. They are written to seek out specific weaknesses of your security program through which entrance is made onto your computer. The best way to combat a worm is through a computer firewall. These front line security programs inhibit attempts to access your computer and alert you to when you have a potential danger.

Knowing now the high level types of viruses, you are in a more strategic position to protect yourself and your computer from pending dangerous data theft or destruction. <bio>For practical PC security info (http://www.pc-security-keys.com/best-internet-security-software.shtml), visit http://www.pc-security-keys.com, a popular site providing great insights to help combat viruses (http://www.pc-security-keys.com/norton-virus-protection.shtml), spyware, adware, and more! </bio>

As the hub of the information technology department, data centers are an integral part of daily functioning for most companies. Preserving your data keeps your company running, and any downtime of the data center results in lost money and time. What challenges to companies face when it comes to data centers? How can some of these challenges be mitigated?

Brief History of the Data Center

Data centers now occupy the space that once belonged to the super computers of the early computer era. In the early days of computing, dedicated rooms were required to keep the huge machines cool, safe, and free of dust and other contaminants. These dedicated rooms later became home to data centers.

In the 1990s, the complex systems employed by information technology departments were gathered together in these dedicated rooms. Client-server networking became standard for information technology departments, and the dedicated room was perfect for the hierarchical design of the data center.

Eventually, data centers outgrew these dedicated rooms. As the Internet age came into being, companies learned that having an Internet presence was an integral part of doing business. These new requirements of Internet data centers brought with them a host of challenges for many companies.

The Challenge of Physical Space

While the early data centers could fit in a single dedicated room, the advent of the Internet data center made it much harder to find space for all the necessary servers, cables, and other important equipment. Finding the space for all this equipment became a challenge for many companies.

Private data centers were created to solve this problem. Rather than find dedicated space for a large Internet data center on site, a company could outsource their data center needs and use the space for other activities.

The Expense of Operating a Data Center

Even for companies that can find the physical space to house a large Internet data center, the cost of operating a large data center can be prohibitive. Outfitting a large data center with the necessary technology is no small undertaking. Good servers are expensive, as is the rest of the necessary equipment.

In addition, staffing a data center isn't affordable for many companies. Internet data centers must be running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This means that companies must pay their information technology employees to be on site and available during all times of the day. Staffing a data center during off hours can be very expensive.

Again, this is where private data centers have provided a solution. Rather than buying the equipment and hiring the staff for their own data centers, companies can use the services of a private data center instead. This has helped many companies significantly reduce the amount of money they spend on their data centers.

The Problem of Security and Reliability

Besides the challenges of physical space, equipment expense, and staffing, operating a data center also comes with a multitude of security and reliability challenges. A company is only as reliable as its data center, and if the data center goes down for any reason, a company usually has to suspend operations.

Reliability and security depend on having properly trained staff and good security practices in place. In addition, a good disaster recovery plan is necessary in make it easier for a company to come back from a major event.

Private data centers help many companies with this challenge by taking on the responsibility of storing the data securely. Finding a private data center can drastically reduce the stress associated with providing secure data storage and can make recovering from a disaster as quick and easy as possible.<bio>Leading provider of managed hosting solutions with offices strategically located in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Quebec City.
Informing patients about identity theft risk is not a strict legal requirement but not informing them could lead to serious consequences, not only for the individual involved but also for the hospital or clinical practitioner who decided not to inform the patients of identity theft risk. In this article we will look at a number of ideas to help you establish how, when and whether you should inform your patients about the possible risk of identity theft.

The first principle which you should always try to stick to is one of data security. Hopefully with proper security systems in place the need to inform patients about breaches in this security will be minimal. Data security involves systems such as secure passwords on all your computers, data encryption, anti-spyware software and any other security measures which your IT specialists may suggest. If these security measures are strictly adhered to and staff are trained in these and the importance of data privacy then informing patients about identity theft risk should only happen on the very rare occasion.

Some people feel that by informing patients too often of the risk of identity theft that they will become de-sensitized to the risk, however, if you have correct security systems in place you will hopefully not need to do it too often, and it is important that if there is a real risk of identity theft that the patients are informed of this risk in order to take precautionary measures.

If the risk is high in a certain case of breach of security then it important that patients are informed of the risk of identity theft in a timely manner and they should also be informed of what the hospital is doing in order to catch the suspect and prevent further harm from being done.

It would also be a good idea in these circumstances to provide guidance for patients concerned as to what measures they should be taking in order to protect themselves =96 such as contacting the credit bureaus, creditors and other parties.

Informing patients about identity theft risk is not a strict legal requirement; however, if hospitals are found negligent in this then the consequences could be severe and amount to millions of dollars in fines. The consequences for the patients involved could also be severe, not only in terms of financial risk but also in terms of personal health information that could land in the wrong hands. All data security measures should be in place long before this need ever arises but if there is a serious risk of identity theft occurring then patients should be informed in a timely manner and given guidance as to how they ought to proceed with protecting themselves and what the hospital is doing in this regard.

Take the time to protect your identity so that you too won???t have to suffer through the loss. If you pay bills on line make sure you only use secure sites to do so. With so many great firewalls and computer programs such as Norton???s anti-virus it is tough to break down such security systems in place. <bio>You can also find more info on http://www.preventidentitythefthelp.com/Identity_Theft_Scams on Identity Theft Scams and http://www.preventidentitythefthelp.com/Identity_Theft_Shield on Identity Theft http://Shield.Preventidentitythefthelp.com is a comprehensive resource to find how to secure your ID. </bio>

You just cannot predict when something is going to go wrong with your computer or one of the files you have stored there, and when it does happen, any information you have stored is going to be lost, usually forever. It is always recommended that computer data backup files be kept separately where it can be recouped in event of loss.

Security for your computer data backup information may not always imply security from theft or intrusion. It may mean to protect it from similar damage that has affected your main file system. If you store backup files on the same computer hard drive as the original files, if something happens to the hard drive, your backup files will be lost as well.

Although you may believe that since you have not had a problem with your computer data backup is a waste of time. Just like wearing your seat belt. If you have never had a car accident, you probably still wear it just in case. There are numerous ways the information on your computer can be lost or corrupted, including system failure, and when that happens your life, as you know it, is lost.

What Files Need Backed Up And Where

Generally speaking, you should look at the information stored on your computer and determine which files cannot be recreated if destroyed or no longer accessible. The files you mark for computer data backup may include financial information, family photographs, music you bought and downloaded as well personal projects and email address books.

Whether you decided to use disks, CDs or another form of external device for computer data backup is not really important, rather making sure you will have the means to recover the files from that source available later on, is. Looking back a few shorts years, every computer has at least one drive for three and half inch floppy disks. Not anymore. If you backed up your information on your old computer with these disks and your new computer does not have that drive installed, your filed are still inaccessible.

You may also consider looking for online computer data backup services, where using a secure file transfer protocol (FTP) site, your files, which may include the entire content of your hard drive, can be transferred and securely stored for easy retrieval. Saving your files locally may work, but in event of a disaster could still be lost along with everything else. <bio>Roland Jefferson is an online researcher based out of Los Angeles, Calfornia.
Too Big for a Small Business

As businesses began to increase their focus on having reliable and available data centers, data centers began to grow in size and complexity. No longer a single room housing a comparatively simple computer system, businesses now required very large Internet data centers. These large data centers are expensive to run, expensive to maintain, and expensive to staff.

These huge data facilities were out of the reach of many small businesses. These smaller organizations also needed the high speed Internet connectivity and high availability of data, but they did not have the resources to build such physically large and expense data centers. Even the equipment required for such an endeavor was often out of the financial reach of a small business.

The Advent of Data Center Outsourcing

Private data centers became the go-to solution for small to medium business information technology needs. Data center outsourcing grew in popularity, largely because it was a practical and financially more viable solution to the problems created by huge, on-site data centers.

Not only are outsourced data centers more affordable, they also lift much of the heavy responsibility from the business. Disaster recovery, adhering to industry standards, ensuring a secure and hospitable environment for information storage and management, and many other practical concerns can make in-house data centers a logistical nightmare. When organizations place their trust in an off-site data center, they do not need to shoulder this burden alone.

What to Look For in Outsourcing Data Storage

When you outsource your data center responsibilities, you want to be selective in your choice of a data storage partner. Every moment that you network is not up and running, your business is being affected. A high availability data center will place a great deal of emphasis on the following:

- Skilled IT Professionals: A data center is only as good as its staff. Security and networking teams need to be well-trained, skilled, and experienced. Network technicians need to be trained to the highest industry standards.

- Proper Environment: The environment of a data center is of the utmost importance. There must be an uninterruptible power supply or backup generator, a highly sensitive HVAC system to filter air, a fire suppression system, and proper installation of equipment.

- High Level of Security: Your data needs to be protected, and the first level of defense is the physical security of the building. There should be controlled access, video surveillance, and extensive employee background checks.

- Top of the Line Equipment: Network infrastructure is one of the most important aspects of data center planning. When selecting a data center, make sure equipment selection and infrastructure set-up receive the emphasis they deserve.

- Strict Adherence to Standards: Industry standards are around for a reason. They help make sure data centers provide high quality service, maximum availability, and top-shelf security measures.

The Advantage of Outsourcing

In house data centers simply cannot offer the same kind of reliability and economic viability as off-site data centers. An organization must allow its focus to remain on the health of its business operations, rather than getting bogged down in the details of managing data. Outsourcing your data center allows you to keep your focus where it should be: on your own organization.

The complicated and expensive nature of today's data center needs make it impractical for a company to expend huge amounts of resources on an in-house data center. It just doesn't make good financial sense. Instead, outsourcing your data center allows you to put those resources back into your company, further strengthening your organization.<bio>SAS 70 certified Data Center provides clients with business continuity, managed hosting, managed security and disaster recovery for organizational security.</bio>
