Casa Colonial Beach and Spa, is the only real five star hotel in the Dominican Republic. Unlike many five star hotels it is in many ways closer to being one of the best small inns and hotels in the Dominican Republic, with only 40 rooms but also in the whole Caribbean.

We decided to have Christmas in the Dominican Republic, and as we will only stay in five stars, and we don't like all inclusive, we were very restricted. So after reading up a lot of reviews we selected the Casa Colonial for our vacation, and we really had no regrets.

The Casa Colonial Beach is a very attractive small hotel, which has a beautiful kind of open airy feel to it.

The bedrooms are a very good size, large marble bathroom, huge tub, and separate shower, and importantly double wash hand basins!! We had a first floor garden view room, which was very secluded, and it had a very large patio.

We both used the spa and gym facility, and found them very good, and not over the top.

The first thing that struck us was the service, always with a smile, always very attentive, from the moment we arrived , when we were served with a well needed drink whilst we checked in, to the moment we left. Everything from wanting to carry our plates at breakfast to helping adjust sun beds.

We enjoyed the pool which never seemed too busy, no fight for beds, with a very reasonable restaurant for lunch, where the food was good, not too expensive, and even the drinks were not over the top. The same could be said for the food in the restaurant, but this does bring me to what we felt was the biggest drawback to the hotel.

The Casa Colonial Beach is situated on a beach, in a gated secure area, and is surrounded by the all-inclusive hotels I hate. The beach therefore was crowded, and not with the type of people I necessarily wanted to be close to on a vacation. . Although in fairness not on our bit of private beach, which was well served with loungers, and bar service, but you just didn't want to go for a walk along the beach.

As all-inclusives mean guest eat in, there was no alternative but our restaurant for food. In other words we couldn't just go out and eat in a local restaurant, because there really wasn't much to choose from, and any taxi drivers we used all said the food at the Casa Colonial was the best, and the hotel was the best on the island.

Having said all that we had an extremely pleasant stay at the Casa Colonial Beach and Spa, and a very nice Christmas, if a little expensive a day, and would recommend it with the provisos we described <bio>Peter Stewart writes exclusively for http://www.in-kenyasafari.com as well as http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com and he has in depth knowledge of the places he writes about. </bio>

When going on vacation, you can just go to Cape Cod or you can really enjoy yourself and take a serious Cape Cod vacation. By serious, I mean that you need to go the way of many students, craftsmen, and others, who take on Cape Cod for the entire summer -- working a job and living in one of the most awe-inspiring and fascinating places in the U.S. I was one of those adventurers and spent a summer with a couple of friends just hanging out in Cape Cod, living an amazing life there. It was about thirty years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. What a fabulous summer we had!

My friends and I rented some rooms from a guy who fished for a living and his wife. They lived in P-town, what the locals call Provincetown. We had a few odd jobs that we did during the day, like being a maid, doing carpentry work, etc., but when the day turned into night, we started partying. We basically partied the night away and met some great people along the way. We hung out with the townies and had an experience that would rival any planned vacation to Cape Cod. We screwed around, going dune hopping with jeeps that had the air flattened out of the tires. The pools were a great hangout, too. Many of the pools we went to were halfway between the bars and the beach and that suited us just fine.

The beauty of this kind of vacation is that we could also pretend we were one of the regular tourists and attend all the high class art shows, shop all the tourist shops and eat all of the amazing summer treats Cape Cod has to offer. I though I'd burst on all the fudge and cotton candy I ate that summer.

The folks in Provincetown live out on the tip of a peninsula and are some of the nicest, laid back people you'd ever want to meet. They're the folks who slave all winter long making artwork and crafts so the tourists have something to buy when they get there on their summer vacation.

There are a lot of nearby towns to travel through, too. Towns like Hyannis, Woods Hole and the like, have a lot to offer as well. You'll have plenty of towns to explore. Massachusetts is small enough that you can explore nearly the entire state before the summer is done.

No matter how long you spend in Cape Cod, one of the must-sees is a ferry boat ride over to Martha's Vineyard. Nantucket is in that area as well. These are places where only the wealthy and well-established live. There are places to visit on this tour that really take you back to the colonial times. <bio>You will find more from this author at: http://www.mytravel-magazine.com </bio>

As you plan your trip to St. Thomas, you will probably find that one of the favorite activities for St. Thomas vacations is duty-free shopping in Charlotte Amalie. While shopping and walking the streets of this colonial capital might be a great start to a St. Thomas vacation, St. Thomas tourism certainly has more to offer than simple shopping and dining. From the historic colonial sites scattered throughout the island to the natural beauty of the Caribbean, St. Thomas has something to offer any type of tourist. You and your family can embark on exotic underwater adventures, or ride a cable car to the top of a Caribbean peak. The possibilities are endless in St. Thomas.

A favorite of families, the Coral World Ocean Park features over five acres of aquariums, pools, hiking trails and observatories. Feeding shows and snorkeling expeditions allow children to interact with some of the Caribbean's most interesting sea creatures. For the daring tourist, the site even offers parasailing and a swim-with-sharks program. Also for lovers of marine life, the high-tech submarine tour -- Atlantis XV -- allows tourists to coast through coral reefs and observe numerous types of fish, turtles and other Caribbean creatures. Your tour guide will point out interesting and rare species along the way.

Just east of the capital city of Charlotte Amalie is another tourist favorite, Bluebeard's Castle. Though local legend states that the structure was built by the famous pirate to commemorate his love of Mercedita, the stone tower was actually constructed by Danish colonists in 1689 as a watchtower for nearby Fort Christian. Connected to this site is the complex know as Frederiksberg, a residence erected after the colonial government sold the land in 1818. Today, the buildings serve as one of the most unique architectural sites in the Caribbean.

The highest point in St. Thomas, the 1,542 foot peak of St. Peter Mountain, was once used by the U.S. government as a communications station. Today, this scenic overlook features shops and restaurants that look down upon Drake's passage -- the legendary site believed to have been a lookout for Sir Francis Drake spying on the Spanish Armada -- and the surrounding Virgin Islands. Another great location for that perfect Caribbean view is The St. Thomas Skyride to Paradise Point. The aerial cable car at the site takes you up 700 feet in less than 7 minutes with stunning scenery along the way. At the top you will find a number of fun shops and restaurants, all of which feature amazing views of Charlotte Amalie harbor.

The Tillet Gardens are the home of St. Thomas' vibrant local art scene. Formerly a Danish farm, English artist Jim Tillet converted the property into a center for visual arts and performance after arriving in St. Thomas in 1959. Besides being one of the few colonial farms open to the public, Tillet Gardens are brimming with local paintings, silkscreen prints, jewelry and other crafts all created by the local community. After enjoying a cool drink and a snack, check the event schedule as you may have the pleasure of hearing a classical music performance. The charming fishing outpost known as Frenchtown is another great area to visit and relax while in St. Thomas. Settled in the late 1800s by fishermen from the nearby French-Caribbean island of St. Barthelemy, Frenchtown still features an active fish market. Early in the morning, you can observe fishermen approaching the shore in their small boats and preparing their catch for sale. Resting on a hilltop in the middle of town is St. Ann's Catholic Church, a great place to catch a view of town and the vast Caribbean. Frenchtown also has the beautiful French Heritage Museum with artifacts documenting the French colonial experience in the Caribbean region. A little further off the beaten path is the town of Red Hook, a departure point for many Caribbean ferries and other vessels. Supporting the local marinas are several excellent restaurants and bars, each with unique offerings. Experiencing small towns such as Red Hook, in addition to the capital of Charlotte Amalie and the surrounding countryside, will certainly offer some understanding of the rich culture and history of this beautiful Caribbean island. <bio>This article was written by Justin Burch.
Often with financial help from parents, some college-age students choose to purchase homes or condos in communities where they attend college. This option allows students to live in a property that is usually more spacious and comfortable than typical dormitory-style rooms. For students who value attending a college with a large football program, affordable real estate may be an important criterion when selecting a college or university.

Coldwell Banker, a real estate firm, conducted a recent survey to identify the most affordable college football towns. The survey compared the average price of a single- family home with 2200 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a family room and a two-car garage. The survey evaluated the price of this type of home across 119 communities that had a Division 1-A college football program.

To purchase a home similar to the one described above, the top ten college football towns had an average home price that ranged from $148,000 to $170,000. The top ten most affordable college football towns are provided below.

1. Tulsa, Oklahoma, home to the University of Tulsa, tops the list of most affordable college markets in the U.S., with an average home price of $148,575.

2. Hattiesburg, Mississippi, home to the University of Southern Mississippi, had an average home price of $151,225.

3. Muncie, Indiana, home to Ball State University, had an average home price of $151,238.

4. Fort Worth, Texas, home to Texas Christian University (TCU), had an average home price of $151,250.

5. Monroe, Louisiana, home to the University of Louisiana-Monroe, had an average home price of $153,271.

6. Houston, Texas, home to the University of Houston, had an average home price of $155,304.

7. Houston, Texas, home to Rice University, had an average home price of $155,304 (which resulted in a tie for the number 6 ranking).

8. Lubbock, Texas, home to Texas Tech University, had an average home price of $158,225.

9. Logan, Utah, home to Utah State University, had an average home price of $168,612.

10. Jonesboro, Arkansas, home to Arkansas State University, had an average home price of $170,575.

College towns are lively communities and offer a broad range of academic and cultural activities. If you are a student or the parent of a student who is passionate about big-time college sports, buying real estate in a college football town may be an ideal solution for your sporting and housing needs. An experienced real estate agent can help you buy a home, condo or other real estate in these affordable college markets. <bio>http://www.sdhomedatabase.com http://www.point-loma-homes.com http://www.poway-home.com </bio>

Based on my going-on five years of expat experience in the city of Guanajuato, Mexico's Heartland, I do not think the current expat guides such as Howell, Merwin, and Luboff, apply here. It is so stark in fact, that the difference between Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende is almost like comparing apples to oranges. Here are two cities, two Colonial Mexican Heartland towns, so close, and so different. What's changed it? The Gringo presence and the Mexican's subsequent adaptation (subjugation?) to the Gringo presence.

Is this a bad thing? Is it bad that the Americans have swept into towns such as San Miguel de Allende and with their money effectively changed it from uniquely Mexican to something all together different? My view is that it is a bad thing. My traditional understanding of expatriation, one about which I feel passionately, prevents me from seeing the changes in San Miguel as something good. It prevents me from seeing the Gringos in San Miguel as expatriates. What that city has become is a playground for the rich Gringo. The Mexicans in the town live to serve the Gringos. That is something with which I take great exception. However, for most Americans, living in Mexico would be impossible without a town like San Miguel whose entire infrastructure has been redesigned and functions to serve the American who wants to live there. I cannot argue with the fact that what San Miguel now is, is what it is, and there's no going back to what it was. The ultimate sadness is that the town's Mexicans I am not sure ever had a choice in the matter.

Mexico as a Concept

So, what is the Mexico as a Concept that draws Americans to towns like San Miguel de Allende or any Prime Living Location in Mexico? What is the Concept of Mexico about which the popular expat guides, online websites, newsletters, seminars, speak? What Concept or Image of Mexico is attracting the American who wants to leave the U.S. to live here?

Primarily, Americans think they can come and live here because Mexico and her people are just like us. I mentioned this in our first book, The Plain Truth about Living in Mexico. I tried using the phrase, "Don't forget, Mexico is not America." throughout the book to try get across the point that is very much lost on Americans: "Mexico is not America." Americans typically do not hold any depth of cultural awareness and too often think that all that is necessary to live with Mexicans is throw some money or technology at them under the guise of "Now, we gringos are here to help these poor third-world Mexicans" charities and soon the Mexican will jump through America hoops and be "just like us." I've often wondered if Americans would be so willing to move here if they knew in advance that there is not someone "just like me" under that Mexican's mestizo skin.

Do not think me glib or disrespectful here. This American woman in Guanajuato was once telling me how the Gringo Charity to which she belonged was here so that they might help these "little brown people." At first I thought I had misheard her until I asked my wife in private who had also heard this hideous remark.

I remain convinced that Americans think they can come to Mexico to live because Mexicans are just like Americans, only in a different wrapper. That seems to be the extent of America's cultural awareness. I cannot begin to count how many times I have heard the following two statements from the mouths of American expats:

1. I know they understand what I am talking about and are pretending they don't.

2. If they are going to work for me, they are just going to have to adapt to me and assimilate my ways, including speaking English.

I really wonder if Americans would come here if they really knew what lies deeply layered underneath the surface of the Mexican mind?

Americans, and especially Texans, think that because they've eaten tex-mex, attended some cross-border festivals, have driven across the border to go shopping, worked with a few Mexicans in a construction project, screamed at a few of those projects' Mexican workers, had a few Dos XX beers while camping in Reynosa, can say "Yo quiero Taco Bell," that they've pretty much mastered Mexican culture and living in Mexico will be a cinch. Americans (and don't forget those Texans) delude themselves into thinking they know Mexicans. They are more willing to admit that there are vast language and cultural differences between themselves and the Chinese than they do with Mexicans.

They are convinced they are cultural experts when it comes to Mexicans and therefore willingly pack it up and move here based on this delusional Concept about Mexico: Mexicans are just like us; Mexico is just like America. They can handle it, they reason, because after all, they are just Mexicans and are just like us.

NEXT: Mexico As a Concept and Not As a Reality part 4 <bio>Doug Bower http://www.zyworld.com/theolog/Page1.htm </bio>

Unless you have a month on your hands, forget about seeing the whole of the Western Cape in a single trip. There are so many charming seaside towns and villages nestled in picturesque valleys to visit, you will have to plan your route very carefully if you want to see everything you want. You should decide whether you want to spend your time primarily on the East Coast, the West Coast or in the interior. Whichever route you choose, you are bound to have an unforgettable experience.

One of the most popular tourist routes to take is of course the world-famous Garden Route. This goes from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, and meanders through charming Karoo towns and stunning beachside resorts. If you want to make a week of it, you can stop at several towns along the way including Oudtshoorn, Wilderness, Nature's Valley, George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Each of these towns would make the perfect holiday destination, but a tour of all of them is possible within a few days.

If you choose to take a trip up the West Coast, make sure you are there in time for the wildflower season. During certain months of the year the hillsides are dotted with stunning flowers of all varieties, and driving along the coast is a thrilling aesthetic experience. Spend some time in stunning resort towns such as Langebaan, Paternoster, Darling and Britannia Bay where you can experience some of the best fishing and wine estates in the Western Cape.

The Western Cape is of course famous for the wine produced in this region, which parallels some of the finest French varieties in terms of quality and character. Spend a day touring the wine estates in the Stellenbosh and Franchoek regions, where almost every estate offers exclusive wine tasting days and delightful restaurants. One of the most famous of these is the Spier Wine Estate, which offers itself as a center of culture, art, food and wine in the Western Cape.

If you are a nature enthusiast, there are plenty of places that offer stunning walks at any difficulty level. Amateur walkers can take a stroll through the beautiful Kirstenbosh Gardens, but for those who want to experience Western Cape nature at its finest the Otter Trail has more to offer than any other trail. This five day hike crosses a wide variety of terrains and ends up in the stunning Nature's Valley, a premier Garden Route destination.

If you are planning a trip to the Western Cape, be sure to set out your itinerary carefully or you could end up without a direction to follow. Decide whether you want to experience scenery, culture, excitement or night life and plan your trip accordingly. Don't be concerned with missing out though, because anywhere you go you will have the time of your life. <bio>Let us help you with your next vacation to the Western Cape by visiting http://www.westerncapeaccommodation.co.za </bio>

The cities and towns of Napa County are small, friendly and diverse. If you have the good fortune to live here, you might start your morning off with a "hello" to a neighbor riding a horse, stop in at the local produce stand to pick up something for dinner, or even have an iced coffee and a slice of freshly made raisin bread at the locally owned bakery on Main Street. You might be retired, work in light industry or tourism, or be raising a family. On any given day, you might enjoy the multitude of festivals, performing arts, and outdoor activities or other entertainment that the towns of Napa County offer. Conversely, you might want to take advantage of being close to major U.S. cities like San Francisco and Sacramento, which are just a short drive away. So you might just say that when you live in the cities and towns of Napa County, you have the best combination of nature and civilized living that you can possibly imagine here on earth.

Napa County has quite a few charming cities, with the city of Napa itself being the largest. At a population of about 75,000, the city of Napa is the business and economic center of the valley, and as such, is also the county seat. The city of Napa is also the oldest city in the county. It was founded in 1847 and has quite a history, including playing a major part in the great California Silver Rush of 1858. Today, it is a flourishing city with many local businesses, shops, restaurants, several art galleries, and is home to the Napa Valley Opera House and Lincoln Theater. The City of Napa is a key participant in the continuing development of the wineries, agriculture, and tourism that continue to make the region flourish.

Further north from the City of Napa is the town of Calistoga, whose name comes from combining the names of California and Saratoga. While its economy was originally based on silver mining, Calistoga is now more famous for the hot springs and volcanic ash that supply the local spas with highly sought after therapeutic treatments. Calistoga is also the gateway for several natural wonders like the "Old Faithful" geyser of California, the petrified forest, and the Robert Louis Stevenson State Park. Calistoga retains much of its charm of yesteryear thanks to being an official desination of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Other cities of Napa County include American Canyon, St. Helena, Yountville, Milliken Creek, and Putah Creek. These are all smaller towns that center around a walkable and usually historic downtown area featuring a "Main Street" atmosphere with many local eateries, shops, and businesses. There are many famous residents that own property in the valley and while there is quite a bit of tourism in the area, most towns are zoned to protect the privacy of local residents. So, if you like the sophistication of a metropolitan area combined with a small town atmosphere, Napa County is the perfect place to be.<bio>We can help you with your questions on Napa County Real Estate and find homes for sale in Napa County.</bio>

The most romantic hotel in Sri Lanka is undoubtedly Taprobane Island, and you must take the opportunity to stay there for a few days during your vacation in Sri Lanka.

Taprobane is an amazing place, and incredibly romantic, not the least of its charms is that you can only get to it by wading through the sea.

The 2.5 acre island has 5 en-suite bedrooms with good size living areas, balconies, verandah, lovely tropical gardens, and of course an infinity pool. There is a staff of five who only exist to pander to your every whim.

It is of course hardly an hotel, more a fully staffed villa, and in my book absolutely perfect for a honeymoon stopover, whilst enjoying Sri Lanka. Taprobane is really a throw back to a long lost colonial era, and you could easily be in the 1930's with the huge walk around verandahs, the colonial style furnishings.

What I liked best was the fact that you could ask the staff for almost anything in the way of food, particularly seafood, and they would wade ashore and get it for you -- nothing it seemed was too much trouble. You can feel less than secure in the tropics, even although the Sri Lankans still hold the English in very high esteem, but the presence of a security guard should allay any fears.

There really is nothing to do, but of course this is perfect as a top honeymoon destination. You can simply swim, read, paint, eat, swim, read, paint, eat, drink...............

The main drawback is the journey from Colombo airport, of over 100km. This doesn't seem much, but the roads are crowded, and it could take as much as five hours, which is a long time after a fourteen hour flight. My advice would be to overnight nearer Colombo, or visit Taprobane in the middle of your honeymoon in Sri Lanka. <bio>Ian Smith travels extensively, and never pays the full brochure price,he does a lot of research before booking an hotel, and his opinions on the best worldwide vacation spots are now accepted by many people all over the world.
Any real estate agency can achieve a global reach through the Internet. Your website marketing can be based on specific products or services without regard to location.

But what if your business isn't global, and can never be? A local service business can only cover a limited geographic area doesn't need to advertise to the world. In fact, it only want to reach customers in a specific geographic area covers a limited number of towns, counties or municipalities.

In some ways, it's easier to target 'widgets' on a global scale than to optimize a web page for widgets in a dozen or so specific municipalities. A web page can only be optimized for a half-dozen or so keyword phrases. What if you are a regional company that covers three counties and twenty municipalities? How do you optimize your website for all those specific areas?

You split up your website.

What this means is to take your website and break it apart logically. If your services cover several counties, create county-specific pages listing all the municipalities you cover. If you cover several specific towns, create specific town pages.

Here's how we did it with a client of ours:

From the website home page, we listed the counties and major cities services. Those county and city pages were then directly linked to individual county and city pages that were.

We then created a separate County location page. It included a small map of the county, along with the county name in the and

tags.

Serving X County New York's Real Estate needs. Our real estate buyer and seller services include the following towns in X county.

This was followed by a short paragraph describing the services, along with a bulleted list of the towns and villages in the county that were served by the agency.

Our service area includes the following zip codes in X County:

Then a bulleted list of zip codes in the county was added. A lot of people search locally by zip code. If you don't have them listed on your website, how will you be found? (Realtors are notoriously bad at not listing their service areas!)

Finally ,we added a few testimonial blurbs from customers who lived in towns within the county and linked to a contact form on the bottom.

The effect:

These pages were designed and linked to in a way that vastly improved the results for any searches related to the company's location and service.

It worked so well for the counties that we ended up creating special pages for several of the major cities serviced. The concepts applied, except the content was written specifically for the city, along with links in the copy to the service pages. <bio>Brought to you by http://www.RealEstateAgentProfiles.com and http://www.RealtyFeedSearch.com - helping real estate agents improve their search engine marketing. </bio>

The "Irish Riviera" is the name given to the sunny south coast of Ireland, where small towns nestle next door to each other along a beautiful coastline with sandy beaches, welcoming people and fantastic food. Within easy reach of visitors arriving by air or sea, it's the perfect holiday destination for those who want to experience a true taste of Ireland.

If you've never been to the Irish Riviera, but the idea of sea, scenery and seafood appeals to you, then here are 3 great reasons why you should book now:

1. The towns

The Irish Riviera is a collection of towns of various sizes, serving a range of local and tourist communities. From Waterford in the north, where the famous crystal is designed and produced, to the popular town of Kinsale in the south, which host a large arts community and some of the best restaurants in Ireland, you can find a coastal or inland town that makes you feel welcome. Set in an area of considerable historical and cultural interest, the towns of the Irish Riviera alone make it a great holiday destination.

2. The attractions

The main attraction of the Irish Riviera is clear: its coastline. With beautiful beaches, sheltered coves and working fishing ports, this part of the Irish coast has something to offer anyone who loves the sea. Youghal, the town at the centre of the Irish Riviera region, has two blue-flag beaches, and other areas offer sheltered bathing, rock-pool fun and excellent wildlife watching. It's not just the beaches that bring people to this part of Ireland, though. Music, literature and crafts are an important attraction, with festivals and on-going entertainments keeping visitors occupied all year round. There's plenty of sport available too, including golf, water sports and the famous Irish horse racing calendar.

3. The accommodation

Whatever type of holiday accommodation you prefer, you can find it on the Irish Riviera. From hotels for those who like to be pampered, to friendly bed and breakfast rooms for those on the move, accommodation is of a high standard and a reasonable cost. Try a self catering cottage just yards from the beach for a perfectly independent, yet truly memorable holiday experience. <bio>The Irish Riviera is a dedicated to promoting the south coast of Ireland, helping you to find accommodation, travel and things to see and do.
Just when I thought I experienced the best in New Jersey's resort destinations at the Jersey Shore, a friend suggested I visit the Lakeland area in Morris County, in particular Lake Hopatcong. This is New Jersey's largest lake and actually is located in two counties Morris and Sussex . The towns of Roxbury, Mount Arlington, Jefferson and Hopatcong border the lake. Each of these towns although distinct in ambience, has real estate properties in common. There are beautiful homes that are affordable where many of the employees of the resort areas reside. Also available are very upscale homes overlooking the lake. Many New Jersey residents are purchasing vacation homes in these lakefront towns. The vacation homeowners use these as their summer/fall retreat and the rest of the year subsidize their income by using the property as a rental.

Lake Hopatcong offers camping, water sports, fine dining, some of the best fishing in New Jersey much more. On Sunday mornings there are sailboat regattas. Regattas are a very exciting event to witness, especially when the lake wind kicks up!

Water skiing! Lake Hopatcong is like glass in the early morning. This is the place to be for water skiing, Lake Hopatcong has many coves, which offer wonderful water skiing conditions. If you have never water-skied before, there are water ski instructors for the novice or for the beginner who wants to become an expert.

Every type of recreational boating is welcome, whether it be speed, sail or pleasure boats. And yes Patio boats are also welcome, the "party barge" is alive and well on Lake Hopatcong.

For those who really enjoy the great outdoors, there are two public beach areas and Mahlon Dickerson Reservation for camping. Many New Jersey vacationers take advantage of these accommodations and use the local marinas boat rentals got their water sports activities. <bio>Centruy 21 Joe Tekula Realtor http://c21tekula.com/links.htm is an expert in finding your favorite vacation spot to purchase your Lake Hopatcong vacation home. </bio>

Like many of its Caribbean neighbors, St. Kitts still bears many markings of its colonial past. A tour across the island will reveal old sugar plantations, stone fortresses and period European architecture. One of the most celebrated sites on the island is the oldest colonial plantation and its mansion, Romney Manor. Established in the 17th century during the first major stage of colonial development, the property has been owned by only six families in over 350 years. Today, Romney Manor retains much of its antique charm and certainly has plenty of stories to tell the curious visitor.

Before colonizers gained control of the land surrounding Romney Manor, it is believed the site was occupied by the village of Chief Tegereman =96 the leader of the Carib Indian tribe. Soon after European colonizers defeated the native tribes, the land came to be owned by the ancestors of Thomas Jefferson. Many of the structures from the once-successful tobacco plantation known as the Wingfield Estate date to this early colonial period. Adjacent to the Wingfield Estate, the Earls of Romney established their own sprawling plantation and resided over both estates by 1735.

The story of Romney Manor in the 18th century is, in many ways, the story of the Caribbean. In the fields, African slaves focused on the cultivation of sugar cane while the Romneys tended to their airy Caribbean mansion. After the emancipation of slaves in 1834, sugar production slowed considerably =96 not just at Romney Manor, but also throughout the region. As more Caribbean nations gained independence in the 19th and 20th centuries, plantation farming came to a halt and colonial structures such as Romney Manor fell into disrepair. However, in 1974, this majestic property again became a site of culture and industry.

Today, Romney Manor features one of St. Kitts' most celebrated local businesses =96 Caribelle Batik. Using the traditional Indonesian method of treating fabric with wax to resist dye, the artisans of Caribelle Batik have been creating their apparel and tapestries for over 30 years. When you visit the site, you can watch the artists at work and even learn the technique during hands-on demonstrations. Known for their durability and inventive designs, handcrafted artworks from Caribelle Batik are some of the finest souvenirs you can find in St. Kitts.

Outside the main home, you will find some of the most beautiful botanical gardens on the island. Spread over six acres, the gardens feature many varieties of tropical flowers and plenty of animal life. At the heart of the gardens' diverse plant life is a 350-year-old saman tree, also known as a rain tree. Having seen all stages of St. Kitts' diverse history, this giant tree =96 it covers nearly half an acre =96 has long been one of Romney Manor's most popular sites. In many ways, the saman tree and the gardens it presides over add to the majestic aura of the site.

At the farthest reaches of the botanical gardens, you can even spot the beginning of the island's dense tropical rain forest. As you walk amongst the ruins of the oldest plantation in St. Kitts, you can hear the creatures of the rainforest calling to one another and see the land rise to the volcanic peak of Mt. Liamuiga. If you want to explore parts of the rainforest while you are at Romney Manor, guides are available to help you find the best trails and teach you about the ecological diversity of St. Kitts.

Many tours visit Romney Manor each day and it is easy to find if you venture to the site on your own. Perhaps more than any other destination in St. Kitts, Romney Manor has many stories to tell about how the island used to be and how to best appreciate it today. <bio>This article was written by Justin Burch.
There's nothing new under the sun. Take shutters, for example. Shutters have been in use since the time of the early Greeks. Before the advent of glass, there was no way to keep intruders out of the home, except to have shutters over the windows. Or wind or rain or other inclement weather, for that matter. Glass was not used for windows until medieval times, and was so expensive that it was generally put into the top floors of houses, not on the bottom floors where they could be more easily broken.

When the Europeans came to America and began to build their homes, they brought the concept of the shutter with them. By this time glass was not expensive but it was still easy to break, and of course for security reasons having shutters just made sense.

The shutter evolved for each geographical area in which it was put in use. For example coastal locations which were subject to hurricane winds would need a much stronger shutter, made out of much stronger material, than that used in homes facing the relatively placid weather of the midwest.

The Plantation shutter evolved to suit the needs of the huge mansions of the South. The Colonial shutter has narrow louvers, whereas the Plantation shutter has very wide louvers, from two to three inches in width.

The Colonial shutter evolved on the east coast of the United States where weather is more inclement, with a cold wind always blowing during winter time.

Wealthy Southerners, overseeing their plantations of cotton or tobacco, built homes to show off their opulence, as well as to house the many members of their family. The signature elements of a plantation home are Greek pillars, balconies, formal ballrooms, covered porches, and imposing staircases (made most famous by the film Gone With the Wind, starring Vivien Leigh), and those shutters with wide louvers.

With no constant cold wind blowing to concern themselves with, the inhabitants of the South began using wider louvers which allowed more sunlight and air into t he home during the summer months when the heat of the day could be very oppressive .

These days, the choice between Colonial or Plantation shutters depends on your own personal taste. When you're dusting louvers, is it quicker to dust several narrow ones or only a few wide ones? Do you want a lot of sunlight streaming into your home or not quite so much? And of course do you like the simple elegance of narrow louvers or the solidness of the wider.

Shutters are made from vinyl, PVC, or wood. One of the knocks on vinyl shutters is that they don't have the grain and elegance of the wooden shutter, but determined inventors have been working on that project for decades. You don't want to use wooden shutters in areas of high humidity, as they will warp or crack. However, vinyl can not be shaped as easily as wood for specialty designs. <bio>Andrew Caxton is the author of many resources on vinyl patterns related topics published in http://www.home-decorating-reviews.com .
When you are traveling through North Dakota, there are many things that you are going to want to be sure to see. Most people think that there probably isn't much to North Dakota, but that is part of what the charm of this state is. It is a small state, with a sparse population, but with a lot to see.

The people in the small towns are part of the quaint charm of North Dakota. Try visiting any small town =96 from Jamestown, where you can talk with not only the people, but visit the Worlds Largest Buffalo as well, to Devil's Lake, where at first glimpse one might not see much, but after you have been there for awhile, you're bound to notice that even a trip to the local feed lot can be a learning experience. The Buffalo Festival takes place each year in Jamestown, and if you happen to visit in the summers, you can be apart of it.

Another thing worth mentioning about North Dakota is that each small town has festivals each summer, complete with booths to visit, street dances, and arts and crafts. You can visit each of these, in small towns, such as Minot, and you can get a glimpse of what real small town Dakota life is.

There are several things that you should be sure to do while you are in North Dakota, such as to check out the big cities such as Fargo and Grand Forks. These cities can provide you a wealth of interesting things to see and do, and you will be able to see many different attractions such as museums and different historical sites. Shopping is big in North Dakota, and on any given day, farmers from small towns will have made their way to the larger cities to shop.

History is big in North Dakota because a lot of the lives of the people who settled this great country can be found preserved for all of time in places in North Dakota. The historical landmarks that are all over the state give you a look into the lives of settlers, and you can learn what life on the prairie was really like just by visiting the old time museums that focus on history found in just about every small town.

Driving is the best way to get through North Dakota, and it is worth it because if you are driving, each time you come to a small town with a local attraction you can stop and see it. Many of these attractions are not on maps and are not in tourist guides =96 the best things about North Dakota are those that you stumble in to. <bio>Greg Chadwick owns and operates the North Dakota Hotel Finder website.
If you are engaged and considering destinations to celebrate your wedding, Connecticut can provide many luxurious opportunities. For couples with families and friends in the Boston and New York City areas, historic Connecticut offers an attractive halfway point for guests to gather. If you reside in Connecticut, you know that your state offers nearly four centuries of rich American history, a lovely and romantic backdrop for any couple just starting out life together.

With historic sites such as Mystic Seaport, Old Saybrook, and Yale University within its borders, the state of Connecticut has so much to offer visitors, particularly those seeking a colonial flavor or a New England touch with the luxury and long tradition of towns like: Greenwich, Westport , New Canaan, and Darien to name a few. Indeed, if you are planning a Connecticut wedding your choices for wedding venues are enormous and range from colonial era Congregational churches to 21st century state-of-the-art reception sites; as well as fabulous weddings on the water. Yes, the state's rich combination of modern highways and old post roads allows for visitors to go from historic site to modern setting within minutes, a perfect combination for couples seeking to blend city style with country grace.

Getting Started

When planning a Connecticut wedding, it can seem somewhat overwhelming as to where to get started. Thanks to the internet, you have a world of helpful resources at your fingertips, information that can help you plan everything from finding a local floral designer, hiring a photographer, locating a church, and so much more. Indeed, you can save yourself plenty of time and money by doing much of the groundwork right online. Connecticut is also home to some of the countries top wedding planners so if you find you are short on time and long in the to-do list rest assured that they can guide you in the right direction without wasting your time or resources.

Laying the Foundation

If you live outside of the state, but want to take advantage of all that Connecticut has to offer, consider researching the various bed and breakfast inns scattered across the state. A bed and breakfast inn can be a charming and comfortable place for your guests to stay and, in many situations an inn can host a wedding right on their grounds. Your guests could enjoy the wonder of staying in a Georgian revival home or silk baron mansion while attending a ceremony held on an expansive lawn or inside of a formal English garden.

If you are planning a larger wedding your guests could still stay in one of Connecticut's many historic inns while your ceremony is held underneath the majestic spire of an 18th century countryside church. Indeed, if it is a vintage feeling that you want, you could arrange to have a horse drawn carriage bring you and your espoused to the church and then onto the nearby mansion, castle or yacht club offering all of the modern amenities you desire. What a great way to enjoyably combine the best of the old with the finest of the new!

Finalizing Plans

Many couples are utilizing the internet well beyond simply searching for information. Indeed, savvy couples are creating complete web sites to help guests in so many ways. Your site, which can be hosted through companies who specialize in wedding planning, could include the following helpful information:

• Directions to the wedding and receptions venues with detailed maps included.

• Detailed Information about accommodations. If you strike a deal with an inn purveyor, you can instruct people to mention the "Smith party" in order to secure the best price. Your out of town guests may be delighted to stay an extra night or two in a historic bed and breakfast inn, especially if you made basic arrangements with the owner ahead of time to reserve rooms for your wedding guests.

• Links to gift or bridal registries. You can make it easy on your guests by setting up detailed bridal directories at your favorite stores. Consider providing links on your web site to each store's online directory to make buying a gift as easy as a couple of clicks of the mouse.

• Links to local sites. On your wedding site you could include several links to key local sites of interest. Share information about museums, parks, shopping, restaurants, entertainment and the arts, etc.

• Say it with pictures. Yes, you can update your site after your honeymoon by including wedding and reception photographs, honeymoon pictures, and more.

A Life Together

Truly, your Connecticut wedding can easily combine New England elegance, colonial history, and modern conveniences together to form a rich and memorable tapestry. Take advantage of all that the Constitution state has to offer to you and your espoused by planning an event filled with all of the wonder that historic Connecticut has to offer. <bio>If you are in need of a Connecticut Wedding Planner, please visit: http://www.theromanogroup.net/ Michael Brito is a freelance writer/internet marketer for a variety of consumer goods and services.
Sri Lanka's casinos are among the very few that are legal in South Asia. In fact, the whole country is rather more laid back and unstuffy about such things than anywhere else in the region. This is probably an influence of the majority religion, Buddhism, which pays much less attention to what other people ought to do than to what the individual might want to think about doing. That isn't something all that common amongst religions.

While gambling and casinos are legal all over the island, Sri Lanka's casinos are in just two cities. One in Kollupitiya and the others are all in Colombo.

A list of Sri Lanka's casinos includes:

Kollupitiya: Kollupitiya Casino

Colombo:

Bally's Club

Bellagio Casino

Continental Club

Crown Club

MGM Club

Star Dust Club

Ritz Club

Tokyo Club

As can be seen from the names and their similarities with those in Las Vegas and elsewhere, these are not just local outposts. They are clean, properly functioning, reliable casinos.

There are probably many more casinos across the island, but we're not really able to find out quite how many. For only those with a casino licence may call themselves a casino, while almost anybody can run a game of chance. So the true number of Sri Lanka's casinos is either unknown to us or, if you prefer, we know that nine call themselves casinos so that is the number there are.

Sri Lanka, the island, is a tropical near paradise (along with all of the implications of that including a separatists war in the north). Formerly known as Ceylon, it was a British colony and also has had substantial Dutch and Portuguese influences. The last added a dose of Catholicism to the islands religious mixture, the Dutch a bit of Protestantism and the Brits, in their way, didn't really take religion very seriously at all. There are also substantial Muslim and Hindu minorities.

One of the odder leftovers of that colonial history is in the cuisine. While the British took curry and tea away from the islands, you can still see traditional foods such as Bolo Fiado, a Portuguese style layer cake, Breuhder, Dutch Christmas Cake, and other influences maintained by the Burgher People (a long standing cultural rather than racial grouping, descended from intermarriages between the various colonial invaders and the locals).

With the multiple ethnic groups and religions on the island, and despite the one large rebellion in the North, Sri Lanka is, in general, an accommodating and relaxed place. There is certainly no outcry to insist that people should stop doing what they wish to do, as long as it harms no one else, which may explain the number and popularity of Sri Lanka's casinos. <bio>This article is the property of http://www.sri-lanka-casinos.com </bio>

You want your vacation to be relaxing, but it will not help if you get stressed out trying to find the right place to stay. You know the routine; you have to find a place that suits the needs of everyone in your family, is within your budget, is clean and comfortable and located near the attractions you want to visit. If you are looking for accommodations in the Costa Blanca, your problems may be solved by using one of the many online property managers who offer accommodations in the right town in the Costa Blanca for you.

First you will have to decide which in the Costa Blanca appeals to you the most. Most of the towns in the Costa Blanca are situated on the beautiful white sand beaches the area is known for. The town may be scenic, offer marinas and beach facilities, have a lovely historic section, or all of these. The towns of the Costa Blanca may be different from one another, but they all have the same thing in com mom: sheltering western mountains that keep the harsh weather away, and warm breezes off the Mediterranean to temper hot days.

Alicante is the most central town in the Costa Blanca. It has a hub airport from which you can travel to other cities. Head north toward the towns of Calpe, Altea, Javea and Benidorm or south to Torrevieja.

One of the best solutions for accommodations in this region for many people is a Costa Blanca Villa. You can search for a property in either of two ways: find a city you like and contact an agent who represents property in that city, or find a property that interests you and make that city the base for your vacation explorations. On line property managers are happy to show their clients abroad how to find a Costa Blanca villa.

If you are familiar with the Internet, you know that one of the great advantages is being able to see a property right on the company's site. You can check rates and availability and then compare them to other villas you may be considering.

Most of the villas in the Costa Blanca have a number of bedrooms, baths and many have private pools. They are typically located in areas that are close to the main attractions of the region, or near the beach.
The Kruger National Park South Africa has long been the place to visit on a South Africa Safari Vacation. Then there is only one place to stay, and that is the Royal Malewane when you are on a South Africa Game Safari. Yet having said that Game Drives are not the only reason to come here.

Royal Malewane will give you a range of activities from game drives to bush walks, spa treatments, and wonderful new gymnasium, and game watching from the verandah or the swimming pool. This is a real haven of peace and quiet whilst being completely surrounded by the African Bush. This is why people who value their privacy come here.

Seclusion is the best word to describe the suites at the Royal Malewane. They are simply enormous with canopied King size beds, window sized Victorian baths, and indoor and outdoor showers, with views to die for from the suites. In addition they are air conditioned, and yet have a fireplace. There are six one bedroomed suites, and the two bedroomed Royal and Malewane Suites with their own personal butlers. Each suite is unforgettably old colonial Africa in concept.

To sit on your veranda and watch the splendors of Africa unfold in front of you is bewitching, because the fact that all the suites are raised up on stilts gives you the elevation to improve your view no end. The plunge pool of the suite might even be used by passing elephants to sneak a drink from it is that close up and personal.

Elevated walkways link the suites to the main lodge continues the old colonial theme in its furnishings, and even dining is in keeping with the best china silver and crystal.

The service is exceptional, and the food is exceptional, with a great wine list It is extraordinary the first time you look up from the dinner table in the middle of a sumptuous feast to see a group of elephants walking by..

Royal Malewane is at once luxury, and then unforgettable, and thirdly almost without fault. Places don't come much better than this, with a maximum of sixteen guests in the Thornybush Game Reserve area right next to the Kruger National Park. This is the home to lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino amongst others, and to over 250 recorded birs species. This will give you one of the best game viewing experiences in South Africa if not all of Africa.

The Kruger National Park South Africa has many quality lodges but nothing like Royal Malewane which somehow manages to combine colonial splendour with the quality of hospitality and facilities associated with the best traditions of the 21st Century.

Of course you take a South Africa Game Safari to see game, and you will find that the staff do all in their power to ensure you see what you want to see, with great rangers and trackers to ensure this happens, and their enthusiasm and knowledge is huge.

The Royal Malewane has to be seen to be believed. It really is the place to stay for the Kruger National Park, and it will give you a totally memorable South Africa Game Safari Vacation.

For more information about Vacations in Africa go to http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com/categories/Vacations-in-Africa/ <bio>Peter Stewart writes exclusively for http://www.in-kenyasafari.com as well as http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com and has visited personally many of the places he reports on, and has done extensive research on the others </bio>

The town ancient Italian capitals, Turin (from 1861 to 1865) and Salerno (from 10th February to 15th July 1944), have established a bright artistic twinning becoming the towns of art and lights. Nights have become magic thanks to the wonderful lights that decorate the towns. They emphasize the beauty of monuments, buildings, and churches; they give a new charm to shopping; they create a magic atmosphere made of cheerfulness and enthusiasm.

Lights in Salerno and Turin are real masterpieces: works of art set up in the most charming and picturesque corners of the two towns, from 8th November to 31st January in Salerno and from 6th November to 13th January in Turin. The atmosphere is unique: towns seem different; lights convey cheerfulness, warmth, and enthusiasm. Palaces and houses have now a new aspect thanks to the new chromatic effects created by lights. Streets and squares acquire a new charm that involves inhabitants and makes them feel like living in a new and more beautiful town. Tourists are enchanted; they feel to enter a real crib. They are attracted by these lights that also give more importance to monuments, palaces and churches. It is an open-air exhibition that perfectly fits Christmas atmosphere.

In Turin `Luci d'Artista' event include 19 installations that have transformed the town in an open-air gallery. There are the works of art by Mario Air=F2 with "Cosmometrie" in Piazza Castello, Enrica Borghi with "Palle di Neve" in Via Roma, Daniel Buren with "Tappeto Volante" in Piazza Palazzo di Citt=E0, Francesco Casorati with "Volo su.." in Via Garibaldi, Nicola De Maria with "Regno dei Fiori..." in Piazza Vittorio, Richi Ferrer with "Lucedotto" in Corso Lecce/Corso Regina Margherita, Carmelo Giammello with "Planetario" in Via Cernaia and Via Pietro Micca, Jeppe Hein with "Illuminate Benches" in Piazza Carignano, Rebecca Horn with "Piccoli Spiriti Blu" at Monte dei Cappuccini, Joseph Kosuth with "Doppio Passaggio" at Murazzi, Luigi Mainolfi with "Lu=EC" in Via Lagrange, Mario Merz with "Il volo dei numeri" at Mole Antonelliana, Mario Molinari with "Concerto di parole" in Giardini Reali, Mimmo Paladino with "Schegge di luce" at Palazzina Fiat in Corso Agnelli, Qingyun Ma with "Neongraphy" at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Via Modane, Domenico Luca Pannoli with "L'amore non fa rumore" in Via Verdi, Michelangelo Pistoletto with "Amare le differenze" at Porta Palazzo, Jan Vercruysse with "Fontane Luminose" in Piazzetta Reale and Gilberto Zorio with "Luce, fontana, ruota" at Italia `61. On the first, third and fifth Saturday of the month, there are guided tours in Italian/French, while on the second and the fourth Saturday they are in Italian/English.

At the same time, many masterpieces are exhibited also in Salerno thanks to the twinning between the two towns.
