One of the great things about having a backyard garden is all the birds that are attracted by the plants. If you don't have enough space to have a garden in your backyard, there are still ways to attract birds. Window bird feeders are a great way to do this, even if you don't have any yard space at all.

There are plenty of different sizes and styles of bird feeders, each designed for a different type of bird. You can also choose different types of food to attract different varieties of birds to your windowsill.

These feeders are usually made with a one-way mirror so you can see through it to watch the birds but they see a reflection so they're not scared by having you watching them.

These feeders can be refilled quite easily from the window, so you don't need to leave the comfort of your home to refill them. This is especially useful if you live in an apartment or townhouse and are on an upper floor.

There are various ways to mount these bird feeders. Some have suction cups and stick to your window, others clip into the window frame. The ones that clip into the window frames are generally a better choice because they are a little more secure, but the suction cups used on birdfeeders are better than most, and it's rare that they lose their grip.

These birdfeeders are made from a number of different materials as well, the most common being cedar and polycarbonate plastic. They are both resistant to the weather, however cedar is nice because it can be painted or decorated however you wish.

Some birds are attracted to certain colors so if you want to attract a specific species, being able to paint your feeder is helpful. <bio>Ronnie Booth offers tips for choosing the best window bird feeders on The Birding Guide website.
As a novice bird enthusiast you will want items in your garden that will entice the birds to come and visit. Besides providing water for them to drink and bath, a safe place to eat some food is a must. There are lots of bird feeders that you can put in your garden, but Hopper Feeders are probably an excellent choice for the beginner.

These feeders are also sometimes called Wood feeders. This feeder is very good because birds will feel comfortable here. The Hopper Feeders blend in quite well with the rest of your garden environment. A Hopper Feeder that is kiln dried and made from good quality Western Cedar wood will last for a long time and it will weather to a beautiful silvery gray color.

You can use Hopper Feeders right throughout the year. The Hopper Feeders have all-weather screws to help the feeder withstand whatever type of weather your region will experience. The top of the feeder can be easily opened to store bird feed and to make cleaning the Hopper Feeders easy. Since the Hopper Feeder is made from wood the rain will run off the top leaving the seeds inside nice and dry.

There are some birds that like to eat from a feeder that has a solid perch or platform for their eating ease. Northern Cardinals, Bluejays, Chickadees, Finches and others will come visit this sort of feeder. Owning large sized feeders like the Hopper Feeders will allow you to keep several pounds of sunflower and other seed mixtures in it without any hassle.

This means that you will spend less time refilling the feeder and more time spent on bird watching. A larger seed capacity is very important during the winter. The cold winter season means that with less food in the wild, the birds will depend on you. Your Hopper Feeders will then provide them with a valuable source of food.

The Hopper Feeders can come in many sizes but a good sized Hopper Feeder will measure about 11 =BD inches in length. 9 =BD inches in height and its width will be 9 =BD inches. As these feeders are made from wood you should take care where you will place them in your garden. Squirrels will demolish any Hopper Feeders that have no protection around them.

For this reason make sure that your wooden Hopper Feeders are in an area that has no trees or jumping points nearby for squirrels to take advantage of. Purchasing a good squirrel baffle is also another way to deal with the pesky problem. If you like these furry creatures however you could just place some extra seed away from your Hopper Feeders for the squirrels to enjoy. Whatever you decide, buying any of the Hopper Feeders available will only enhance your garden and bring a great many birds to your feeders. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pet_care/natural_pet_care_index.html </bio>

There are many beautiful birds in the world, but the bright orange color of the Oriole is one of America's more beautiful summer time visitors. These birds love to sip nectar from flowers and other flowering plants. Besides flower nectar they also love grape jelly, and fruits. While you can watch them eating their nectar straight from the garden flowers, you might enjoy seeing them at Oriole feeders as well.

Oriole feeders resemble hummingbird feeders in that there are little wells that the Orioles can drink their nectar from. These specialized feeders allow the Orioles better access to the nectar. Their bright orange coloring can be detected by Orioles even from a great distance.

The best type of Oriole feeder will have both a bee, and ant guard around it to keep these insects away. Should you leave your Oriole feeder untended then the bees will fight the Orioles for possession of the nectar stand. Therefore it's wise to invest in a bee and ant guard for any Oriole feeders that you buy.

The Oriole feeder should have a built-in moat so that there is water between the ants and the nectar at all times. A nectar scale on your new Oriole feeders will help you to gauge how much nectar there is in the feeders. A feeder that has perches around the edge will give you the opportunity to view the Orioles without any distractions. The most important feature of the feeder is that it should be easy to clean. This is very important because an unclean feeder will allow mold to grow on, and in it.

The best time to clean your feeders is every 1 to 3 days. You'll need to remove all of the left-over nectar and any fruits that are on the feeder. Then rinse out the feeder by washing it with warm water. Adding a handful of uncooked rice to the water and shaking the feeder tube will remove any excess nectar stuck to the sides. Once your Oriole feeders are clean and you are sure that no mold is growing on them, you can refill the feeders with nectar.

Should you prefer you can put grape jelly into your feeders instead. However don't put food coloring or other dyes as these can be dangerous to the Orioles. A possible recipe for grape jelly follows. Use 1 part water and 1 part grape jelly. Mix them together until it resembles a thick juice. If you want you can use a blender to get the right consistency. Afterwards using a funnel pour the grape jelly juice into the Oriole feeders. Keep the rest of the mixture in the refrigerator.

Another good idea is to place an Orange halve on a twig, or try placing your Oriole feeders in a patch of bright-orange flowers as they're attracted to orange more than any other color. These few simple steps along with your Oriole feeders are all that is required for attracting the bright Orioles to your garden. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://myaroma.blogspot.com </bio>

You can choose to enhance your garden with bird feeders and there are many different feeders that you can choose from that will suit the many various bird species that are around. One type is the hopper feeders which also include gazebo bird feeders in their range. These gazebo bird feeders will also accommodate large sized birds and are practical. They're also made with great care so that they add a decorative touch to your house and garden.

One type of gazebo bird feeder is handcrafted and made in America and is made from both inland and Western Red Cedar wood. The paint coating on the feeder is a non-toxic water based stain varnish. The roofs of the gazebo bird feeders are made of copper. This helps to control the damage that is inflicted by the weather. The top of the feeder slides open allowing you to clean the feeder of mold and other growth that will hurt any birds that come to your gazebo bird feeders.

This easy slide opening lets you pour more seed into the tubular feeder that is within the Gazebo feeder. The design of the feeder allows placing the feeder on a sturdy post or putting it up on a strong pole. Care should be taken with the placement of your Gazebo Bird Feeders so that no lurking predators will be able to eat any birds that are at this station.

Gazebo style feeders are great for attracting lots of different types of birds. The feeder will hold sunflower seeds, mixed seeds and safflower seeds. With these different seed types the birds that come to your gazebo bird feeders will also be different.

Using black-oil sunflower seeds will bring Goldfinches, Woodpeckers, Titmice, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Redpolls and Pine Siskins to your bird feeders. Finches, Grosbeaks, Cardinals, Nuthatches, Titmice and Chickadees will also flock around the gazebo feeder if you put safflower seeds there.

In general these feeders come in many shapes and sizes. They also come in attractive colors or you could perhaps purchase a do-it-yourself kit. These can be assembled with the greatest of ease and you'll also have the option of choosing your own color scheme. Painting it in bright colors will greatly attract many birds to your feeders and will lend your yard an air of festivity. Any paint used though, should be bird-friendly so check before buying it.

Buying multiple gazebo bird feeders will also allow you the opportunity to feed a great many birds and will afford you great pleasure as you relax and watch the antics of the birds. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pet_care/natural_pet_care_index.html </bio>

Bird watching is an amateur sport of many. We trudge out in the snow to see the chickadees, call the neighbours when there's a bluebird in the yard and sprinkle seed out for the magpies even though they're loud and scare our pets. At some point in everyone's life it's very likely that one or two bird feeders will be purchased so that we can pursue our odd obsession. But it's tough to know just which bird feeders to buy. Hanging, tree-attached, free-standing? There is a lot of choice out there.

It's a good idea to decide which sort of birds you want to attract to your yard, and think about which ones are already habitual visitors. All birds have different tastes and styles, and will respond to bird feeders and seeds in different ways. While your chickadees might enjoy smaller seeds and a bird feeder surrounded by bushes, cardinals will be happier with safflower and aren't picky about tree cover. They're just as picky as us, so it's best to know a little about the birds you want to meet before choosing seed and bird feeders!

The best way to discover about the birds in your garden is not to surf the net, but get down to your local library or bookshop and buy a book. Get one with color photographs if you can. You'll also learn about their nesting and rearing habits, which can become a hobby in itself.

While most small birds are partial to sunflower seeds, you are likely to find that an abundance of them in your yard (scattered across the ground by messy birds) will attract other sorts of wildlife as well. Squirrels, raccoons and the odd rabbit might come ambling by to sample the free food, and you'll be well on your way to owning a full-fledged menagerie. But what's wrong with that? You always did like a little bird-watching, and now you've got the whole zoo to yourself. <bio>http://www.birdfeederbox.com is a website packed with information on wild bird feeders and humming bird feeders </bio>

The world's tiniest bird is the Hummingbird. This small bird drinks a lot of nectar to sustain its body, as it flies very quickly. To satisfy this need for high energy you can plant lots of flowering trees, plants, shrubs, vines and trees. The other thing that you can do is to have Glass Hummingbird Feeders in your garden.

There are a great many Glass Hummingbird Feeders that you can get. These range from the simple and functional to stunning works of art. The bright colors, the intricate details and the beauty of these feeders complement the visual beauty of the Hummingbirds.

The leading designer and manufacturer of Glass Hummingbird Feeders is a company called Par-a-sol. The hummingbird feeder designs of this company are of a vintage style. There is an air of delicacy to these glass feeders, and all of these Par-a-sol Glass Hummingbird Feeders have red colored crystals hanging from the feeders, so as to attract Hummingbirds to come and visit.

The designs produced by this company are considered to be the most beautiful ones in the industry. With these Glass Hummingbird Feeders you can transform your garden into a magical garden where any place that you look, you'll be able to see these jeweled beauties daintily drinking nectar.

It's easy to create a flower garden with Glass Hummingbird Feeders that are shaped like stunning flowers. These "flowers" can be mounted on stakes in whatever design that you want. A chandelier style Glass Hummingbird Feeder will give an air of elegance and vibrancy as the hummingbirds flock to its many red drinking ports to have their fill of nectar.

Another way to decorate your garden with glass feeders is to use the Bohemian glass feeders in multiple groupings on a tree. Their sparkling colors will look like bright, colored fruit.

There are of course other companies that sell glass hummingbird feeders. Some of the glass feeders are shaped like antique hurricane lanterns and they hold about 16 ounces of nectar syrup. There is a rubber stopper at the top which allows easy to clean and refill action. The nectar ports are shaped like red flowers. As Hummingbird love the color of red they will investigate any flowers that are red in color.

Then you might want your feeders to look like jeweled balls. This type of feeder will be about 4.5 inches in diameter and a glass loop at the top will enable you to hang your glass bird feeder where you think it'll do the most good.

One of the hummingbird's most favorite flowers is the Trumpetvine. Some glass hummingbird feeders have been designed that have three of these "flower" feeding stations that are nestled into individual metal baskets which all have their own perches. The whole design is that of a Ferris Wheel, but doesn't turn allowing for the safety of the hummingbirds. As you can see all of these glass hummingbird feeders will enhance your garden's natural beauty and attract many hummingbirds to your garden. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pet_care/natural_pet_care_index.html </bio>

Droll Yankee Brand bird suppliers are very popular with bird enthusiasts. They have a great many bird feeders that you can choose from. All of these Droll Yankee Bird Feeders come with a Lifetime Warranty. For any damage that's caused the company will replace any defective parts and free of charge. This lasts for as long as you own any Droll Yankee Bird Feeders or other items. The warranty doesn't cover any misuse, neglect or accident caused by you.

While there are many types of Droll Yankee Bird Feeders to choose from only two of them are mentioned here. The first of these is the Tube Feeders. These feeders can be mounted on a pole or hung from any place that you deem as being good for you to see the birds that come to your garden.

The seed is poured into the clear tube and the feeding stations provide access to the seeds through small openings. This feature provides the tube with its squirrel resistant feel, but birds can still get to the seed without a lot of harassment from the squirrels. The tube can't be eaten-through by the squirrels either.

Unlike other tube feeders the Droll Yankee Bird Feeders includes an extra long extended-top area. This area acts as a storage facility for extra seeds. When the level of feed gets very low you it refills the tube with what's in the top area. Therefore there's less chance of hungry birds at the higher placed feeding stations. To let the birds eat in peace each feeding port comes with its very own perch of which there are 4-8.

Another of the Droll Yankee Bird Feeders is the Hummingbird Feeders. These feeders are easy to clean and refill, with the top lid snapping on and off easily. As the feeder is a horizontal circle you get a clear view of any Hummingbird that stops by the feeder.

The nectar guard tips, which is a trademark feature, and fits securely on to the port feeding stems and blocks ants and bees from entering the Hummingbird Feeder and getting to the nectar. There are 8 feeding stations. Each of these ports comes in the shape of a red flower. The outside edging of the feeder provides a sitting ledge for the hummingbirds while they drink the nectar that's in the bird feeder.

The feeder is made from UV stabilized impact resistant plastic. It's 10 inches in diameter and will hold 1 quart of nectar. The feeding ports are easy to remove and clean and the brass hanging rod is very durable and looks great too. You'll also find a nectar recipe engraved on the lid of these Droll Yankee Bird Feeders.

As you can see from these two Droll Yankee Bird Feeders buying one will have many advantages for you. And with so many of these bird feeders to choose from you know that you can't go far wrong. Droll Yankee Bird Feeders are some of the best on the market. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pet_care/natural_pet_care_index.html </bio>

Bird watching is an enjoyable hobby for many of us. We love the antics of the different birds as they try to get the best and largest amount of food. The bright colors and different species that come to our gardens are also a source of interest. One of the best ways to attract birds to your garden is with a feeder. As there are different aspects to the feeders, you might want to check out Audubon bird feeders just to get an idea of what you can buy.

There are different bird feeders that will suit the eating habits of your garden visitors. Ground feeders are best for birds like Doves, Goldfinches, Cardinals, Juncos, Towhees and Sparrows. These Audubon bird feeders need to kept in open areas, at least 10 feet away from any trees and shrubs. This way the birds will have a good chance of escaping from any incoming danger. The feeder is designed in a way that keeps the seeds fresh by separating the bird droppings from the seeds. Sometimes the ground feeders will have covers over them.

Sunflower seed tube feeders are good as they come with metal ports around the seed dispensers. These metal ports will stop hungry squirrels and house sparrows from raiding your bird feeders. It's best to position this type of feeder about 5 feet off of the ground. To see more bird varieties coming for some food, you may want to hang your feeder near the windows. Audubon bird feeders like these attract Chickadees, Nuthatches, Siskins, House Finches, Goldfinches, Titmice and Purple Finches as well

Another type of bird feeder that you should look into is the Suet feeder. Titmice, Chickadees, Nuthatches and Woodpeckers love to eat suet. Wrens and other birds will also sometimes eat the suet cake. You can feed suet by placing it in a mesh onion bag, or your other option is to buy Audubon bird feeders that are specially designed for feeding suet cakes to the different birds.

You can hang your suet feeder from trees or on a wire that's stretched out between trees. You can also place it near other feeder poles and watch different birds eating both the seeds and the suet cakes. Since the suet can turn rancid you should avoid giving this feed when the outside temperatures rise into the 80 degree range.

Hopper feeders will let larger birds like Jays, Grackles, Red-Winged Blackbirds and Cardinals enjoy the mixed bird seed. You will find that these types of Audubon bird feeders have the smaller bird types coming to eat as well. The feed is released as the birds sit on the feeder trigger.

With so many birds around you should think carefully what type of birds that you want coming to your garden and buy your feeder accordingly. The Audubon bird feeders will allow you a greater choice in feeders and will also give you the opportunity to see lots of interesting birds in the relative quiet of your home. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pet_care/natural_pet_care_index.html </bio>

Even before manufacturers took advantage of the growing popularity of feeding hummingbirds, the first hummingbird feeders were typically constructed out of laboratory apparatuses. These were constructed primarily to attract the birds that would normally fly around a garden. To these, the response of the manufacturers is to market and create sugar-water feeders. Many of which are uniquely created thus giving logic to the high cost of each feeder. But most are mass-produced to provide such equipments to the larger public.

Like with most things in the market, hummingbird feeders come in literally all forms of shapes, sizes and designs. The ideal feeders are those that can be cleaned easily and hangs readily. These must also be sturdy and must have limited number of parts that can be separated or broken. Majority of hummingbird feeders comes with both glass and plastic reservoirs.

Glasses have longer lifespan and may be cleansed easily but may shatter when dropped. Plastics on the other hand are relatively cheaper than that of the glass reservoirs but discoloration is notable.

Small feeders typically have only a port for feeding while larger feeders have three or more. Many of which may provide perches for hummingbirds to rest upon while feeding.

The most common mistake among novice feeders is the buying of overly sized hummingbird feeders. This is wrong since the water-sugar solution easily stales even before the arrival of the birds.

One hummingbird feeder may not be enough for the birds in a moderately sized garden. It is best to place two or if possible, several hummingbird feeders throughout the garden. Chances are, the dominant birds would not defend all locations. This may welcome larger number of birds in your place. Logically, it is a good idea to put these hummingbird feeders in locations where you may observe the birds feeding. After all, the sugar solution we give is just a bonus the birds get for dropping by in our places. They, at all rate, can survive even without our help.

Most hummingbirds are gone during winter. This is because they migrate to the tropical regions. If in any case a bird visits you during this season, it is likely that it is genetically inferior and cannot travel. To provide shelter for such birds, some enthusiasts prefer to leave the hummingbird feeders outside their homes, offering both food and sanctuary for the lovely creatures. The sugar-water solution in the hummingbird feeder must still be changed daily.

When choosing a hummingbird feeder, most experts recommend those that are red in color. Though there so little scientific research to support the claim that hummingbirds are especially attracted to red, most feeders seem to appear in shades of red. Plus the common practice of dying the water sugar solution with red. Choose a hummingbird feeder that has excellent protection over ants.

It is also good to restrain from buying a yellow-colored feeders. This is to avoid the bees and wasps from being attracted to the feeder. Look also for feeders that have built-in perches and those that are small. Only when you have determined how thick your visitation of these birds is, may you only start using bigger feeders. This principle will prevent the nectar solution from spoilage.

Hummingbirds are truly marvelous to look at especially with their aerial display. This probably is reason enough why most enthusiasts go crazy over feeding hummingbirds. About The Author: Robert Thatcher is a freelance publisher based in Cupertino, California.
We all have a soft spot for birds. This means that we try and ensure that their environment is ideal for their needs. A bird house is a good way to provide an instant nesting site or home for any visiting birds. A bird bath placed near a bird feeder provides a source of water for drinking, splash bathing and just having fun. The many types of feeders make sure that there is a ready supply of food for the birds. However Cedar Bird Feeders go beyond being just a bird supply item. They bring a level of sophisticated beauty to the garden.

Cedar Bird Feeders from Woodlink will give you the rustic look that you desire and yet this is combined with a practical usage. These feeders can be used anywhere it's necessary to feed large amounts of birds. They're also good for bird feeding sanctuaries.

Keeping this large sized feeder in your garden is an invitation for lots of birds to dine there. The Cedar Bird feeders are in the classic Hopper feeder style. Both sides of the feeder have lots of perching space in front of the feeding stations and there are clear plastic panels on both sides that show you the reservoir of seeds inside of the feeder.

An internal seed baffle design makes sure that any empty seed shells are emptied out on to the platform below. This design feature ensures that no residue is left in the Cedar bird feeders. The feeding platforms are green metal screens that can be removed. For the ease of cleaning and easy refilling the roof of the Cedar bird feeders are hinged.

These large Cedar bird feeders can hold 18 quarts of seed in them. This means that you don't have to continually refill the feeder and if you need to go on your holiday you won't be worrying about hungry birds.

Many bird species like to use this type of feeder. These include Wrens, Towhees, Sparrows, Jays, Grosbeaks, Blackbirds, Cardinals, Doves, Flickers, Redpolls, Woodpeckers, Titmice, Kinglets, Bluebirds, Goldfinches, Starlings, Finches, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Grackles, Siskins, Mockingbirds and Juncos.

These huge Cedar bird feeders are made in America from kiln dried Inland Red Cedar. They are hardy and durable. Their appearance will complement not only your garden but also any bird sanctuaries where they are needed. Due to the size of this feeder it may be best to pole mount it.

The best types of seed to use in this feeder are sunflower seeds, mixed seeds, cracked corn, sunflower kernels, safflower seeds and peanut chunks. The use of these varied bird seeds will bring different bird types to your Cedar Bird Feeders.

With the purchase of any Cedar Bird Feeders you can be assured of getting a good value and there are many years of enjoyment to be had from watching birds eating from the bird feeders. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pet_care/natural_pet_care_index.html </bio>

I love my summer visitors to all the decorative birdhouses I have in the yard. The winter and year round residents don't seem to nest in the bird houses too much but rather in the trees. They do however, come down to the wooden bird feeders and garden birdbath fountain I keep ready for them. I find every one has their own personality with some being braver than others. The chickadees seem to be the first line of defense, they have a very specific warning call. If I am in the house and I hear it I go out expecting to chase the neighbor's cat away. Of course they yell at me sometimes if I get to close but mostly they put up with me.

In setting up my bird friendly garden I tried to think of all the obvious dangers to my visiting friends. The bird feeders are out in the open where the cats have no where to hide but close enough to the trees so that they can quickly flee if predatory birds show up.

The garden birdbath fountain is set up the same way as the wooden bird feeders with care to not give kitties a place to hide. It is hard to keep the bird feeders close enough to trees and yet out of the reach of hungry squirrels it's a bit of a juggling job.

The front windows seem to be the biggest problem. According to the experts birds can't recognize glass and fly toward the refection thinking it's real. The front windows get a couple each year mostly they just bang their heads, swear and fly off, though occasionally there is a fatality. Some say to paste the silhouettes of predators, but then they wouldn't be relaxed enough to eat at the bird feeders or play in the birdbath fountain so I hang wind chimes along the front and they avoid the windows. Remember to watch for various dangers when designing your visitor friendly garden. <bio>After working for over 20 years in an office, I decided to work at home and sell something I really like. To me there is nothing like the sound of birds chirping in the morning. So after lots of pondering I chose to help them out and provide them with their own home at http://www.birdbathplus.com/ </bio>

In an effort to find excellent big game for their hunting, many people, particularly hunters although photographers as well, use deer feeders to draw their targets right within striking distance. In the meantime, ranch owners also use the same tactic to attract more deer into their vicinities. For these purposes, learning how to build a deer feeder can truly be a very worthwhile experience. To learn exactly how to get the job done, follow these simple and basic instructions on how to build deer feeders.

Before anything else, it is necessary to procure all the right tools and materials first before moving on with the building process. The required tools in making deer feeders include a pencil and a paper, a tape measure, a posthole digger, a hammer, and a saw. In the meantime, nails, wood, and feed are all the materials needed to build stable and reliable deer feeders.

When building deer feeders, the process can be classified into five separate parts, namely the location, the trough, the roof, the fences, and the foundation. Let's take a closer look at how to do these things the right way.

Choosing a Location
When selecting a location where to build a deer feeder, people must first consider the number of deer they are planning to feed. For larger numbers, a complex deer feeder may easily get the right job done. However, a simple backyard feeder is enough when planning to feed just a few numbers of deer.

Creating the Trough
In all kinds of deer feeders, the trough plays a very important role especially because it is where the feed is to be placed. In order for a trough to be effective, it must be spacious enough to accommodate a deer and at the same time simple looking in order to avoid attracting unwanted animals from gorging the feed. At the same time, it is important to arrange the walls of the trough in a slightly slanted position to allow the deer better access to the feed.

Making the Roof
The roof is another important aspect of deer feeders because it keeps the food dry. In making the roof, simply attach four poles on the outside corners of the trough. Another important thing to remember is to choose poles that are high enough for the deer to fit inside.

Installing Fences
In making deer feeders, fences can contribute to the overall effectiveness of these stations. Because deer are very much wary of all the predators near them, it is best to install some fences around these structures. By doing this, the deer will feel much safer and they will stay longer within the fence. When making fences, it is important to remember that the feeder must be stationed directly inside the fence, and can hold in between 20 to 50 deer all at the same time.

Creating Foundations
To make the deer feeders stronger and more stable, build a solid foundation for the structures by cementing their poles directly onto the ground. This is necessary to keep the feeding stations from collapsing.<bio>John Grant is a the author for a how to site where he is writing articles about how to build a deer feeder.</bio>

Finally, well it seems like forever, some of my migrating feathered friends have returned to their favorite bird feeders, at least to my favorite bird feeders. The youngest pair of evening grosbeaks were the first to return. I find this interesting because they were the last to leave by several weeks. They brought a friend whom I have never seen before, a variegated thrush. A few days later the rest of the grosbeak flock landed. They are still some of my favorite birds with their bright colors and high pitched whistles. Some of them will even talk back to me if I get the notes right.

Unfortunately along with the song birds come the darn bears so in order to save my beautiful bird feeders from destruction I must bring them in at night. Friday the dogs announced the first influx of bears I ran out and harvested the wooden bird feeders but left one of the less expensive ones out as an experiment. Yep, next day it had bear all over it. Well not really but it had been grabbed and tweaked just enough so that the evidence of large varmint was recognizable. They can do so much damage to the bird feeders it can cost me a fortune to replace them all.

I am still expecting more snow (seems like it snows forever up here) we really only had 2 big storms this year. It might be time to worry about drought conditions again. Wherever you can use grey water to irrigate landscape plants, this really helps conserve. Grey water is the stuff that comes from showers, washing dishes and laundry. If you use a good biodegradable soap it does no damage what ever to the plants or the water table. Make sure it's legal in your neighborhood, if it isn't them speak up and get it legal! There is only so much fresh water and we need to be wise.

Time to get out the garden water fountain, check the pump and scrub the bowl real good. Then the bird bath needs restoring. Until then the pond is almost up and running, well it has fresh water which is a start for me. I think I am going to tell my friends that I want some new ornamental birdhouses for my yard and maybe a few of those fun wooden bird feeders too. I only lost 6 to the bears last fall. <bio>After working for over 20 years in an office, I finally decided to do what I want to do. I've traveled to many countries and finally settled down in N. California. I work from home selling what our feathered friends need; shelter and a place to eat. http://www.birdbathplus.com </bio>

We love to feed the birds that flock to our gardens or that decide to live there. To make this habitat even more attractive to these birds we'll even place bird friendly items around the garden. Some of these things are very expensive and yet they're needed. The best way to be able to provide suitable things like bird feeders is to make cheap bird feeders from items that we have at home.

There are lots of things that we can use. An old onion bag is good to hold suet cakes or balls. Suet can be made from any meat fat. This is easily obtainable at your butcher's or meat department. Melt the fat by boiling it and combine it with fruits, peanuts, peanut butter, grains or seeds to make a high energy meal. Place this cake into the onion bag and hang it outside where birds like Woodpeckers, Bluebirds and Nuthatches will enjoy this treat from cheap bird feeders like this.

You can also create a tasty pine cone bird feeder. You need to tie a strong string piece or twine around one end of a pine cone. Roll the pine cone in peanut butter very thickly; coat the entire peanut butter pine cone in bird seeds of your choice. Use the twine or string to hang it up near a tree.

Other cheap bird feeders can be made from an old plastic 2 liter drink bottle. Wash the bottle out thoroughly with warm water only. When the bottle dries completely replace the cap back on the bottle. Turn the bottle over so that the fat end is facing you. Cut 3 triangular flaps in the bottle. These flaps shouldn't be very big or very wide. The pointed end of the flaps should face towards the bottle cap when they are pulled outwards. These flaps will act as the bird perches of your "new" cheap bird feeders.

Everyone loves to eat Shish Kabobs. This food type does not have to be restricted to humans alone. You can give birds a fruit and vegetable "Shish Kabob" too. What you need to do is to choose some fruits, bread pieces and vegetables that you can give the birds. Pierce these foods together with a metal hook to create some tasty cheap bird feeders.

More, easy to make yet cheap bird feeders are trays that you fill with bird seeds. You can put these up on tree stumps or knee high tables to make platform feeders. You should however keep an eye out for cats who might decide to make a meal out of your birds.

Whatever you decide to make your cheap bird feeders from, remember to keep sharp edged items away from them. The birds can be hurt from these edges. Besides this anything that will hold bird seed and suet cakes are good cheap bird feeders that you can make and keep in your garden. There's no better way to enjoy the birds that live in your area. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pet_care/natural_pet_care_index.html </bio>

After a long snowy winter as I get to work in the garden I discovered the need to completely redo the birdbaths, bird houses and other bird friendly aspects of my garden. Rain, snow and ice did major damage to the pond, the birdbath fountain, the decorative bird houses and all the bird feeders. Wow! I didn't have this much maintenance on my own house. Of course the bears took out their spring energy on the decorative bird feeders and the raccoons keep hanging off the more unique bird feeder because they appear to love that seed mix. Is there a seed mix that doesn't attract as much wildlife as it does birds?

I love fancy bird houses, so do my feathered visitors. They flock to the unique bird feeders and great designs of the decorative bird houses and argue over who gets to move in. I have a decorative bird house shaped like a lighthouse and 2 sets of chickadees got into a rental war before one moved in and made it her own. Some of the residents of my garden prefer the birdhouse feeders. I guess that way they don't have to go far for food, live upstairs eat downstairs. I also appreciate the more unique bird feeders, especially those designed to thwart the squirrel population. Will someone please explain to me how I can have 4 different kinds of squirrels in one yard?

The raccoons keep taking the pump out of the pond to play with it and they burn out the motor so I decided to switch to a birdbath water fountain where they couldn't reach the pump. This works great but make sure to place some rocks in the basin so if someone falls in they can get out again. Even if you have raccoons make sure to have running water in the form of a small birdbath fountain, a birdbath or a pond. Your birds need and enjoy the sound of bubbling water and the availability of fresh water especially as we go into the dog days of summer. Enjoy the finer things in life this summer, enjoy your garden! <bio>After working for over 20 years in an office, I decided to work at home and sell something I really like. To me there is nothing like the sound of birds chirping in the morning. So after lots of pondering I chose to help them out and provide them with their own home at http://www.birdbathplus.com </bio>

I now have a full flock of ring necked doves visiting regularly. This started several years ago when 3 doves began feeding in the yard under the decorative birdfeeders. Doves eat off the ground and won't eat at any of the bird feeders, but everyone else is so messy there is plenty for them to pick up. They don't seem to use the garden bird bath either, but they do love the pond. Now after 4 years the flock seems to be up to 10-12 or so. I must admit I don't pay as much attention to them as I do to the smaller birds and I am not sure why, possibly because they don't eat at the unique bird feeders, but they are just as interesting as the others. What I do notice most about them is that their wings squeak when they fly. Well, if it isn't their wings it sure sounds like it. Pay attention the next time you see some.

I also get Oregon Junkos and dark eyed Junkos. They ignore the fancy birdfeeders too, preferring the seed left on the ground. They don't seem to sing instead they have a rather distinctive click. The Junkos will use the garden birdbath fountains I wonder a bit about the nuthatches and creeper and some of the other insect eaters that visit my habitat. They seem to be attracted to the seed mix I give the other birds in the wooden birdfeeders and in the decorative birdfeeders as well. But their normal diet is insects, what is with that? I figure that anyone who wants to come to the decorative birdfeeders is a welcome addition to the family.

Other migratory birds that come regularly to the fancy bird feeders are members of the finch family. In the spring they prefer the wooden birdfeeders to be filled with thistle seed and can go through pounds of it without really trying. This time of year however, they seem to enjoy the same seed mix that the others want in their bird feeders. This may be because there is plenty of thistle seed available naturally. Make sure to keep the birdfeeders and birdbaths clean and full this time of year as everyone is getting ready for the long flight to winter quarters. <bio>After working for over 20 years in an office, I decided to work at home and sell something I really like.
You can make your wooden bird feeder as simple or extravagant as you desire, according to your level of expertise.

Those who are more adept with the tools of woodworking, may want to try their hand at making a wooden castle bird feeder. The idea behind this is to have all the stools on each side of the castle manufactured so as to stick out for the birds to eat their food out of. Or maybe you consider yourself to be talented enough to make a tube that spirals around, having a trough for the birds to snack away at. However, if you are not so talented and have never built one before, you may want to start with a simple step-by-step design.

You could try starting with a simple wooden tray feeder, where you just glue and nail a few pieces of wood together. As you become more experienced in constructing your wooden bird feeders, you'll be able to experiment a bit more until you feel confident enough to make the bigger feeders that call for a lot more talent and patience. As a child, perhaps you may have built your very first wooden tray feeders in wood shop. On the other hand, if you weren't fortunate enough to take the class you may have built your own bird feeder at home using a soda bottle or a coffee can. I can remember, back when I was a child, taking the empty coffee can, filling it up with my dad's sunflower seeds and hanging it from a tree just to watch the birds come to the yard Endless hours of pleasure!

Check out this quick and easy way to make a simple wooden tray feeder. Please keep in mind that if you are a child you will need adult supervision.

MAKING A WOODEN TRAY FEEDER

4 pieces of wood about 2 inches wide 1 square piece of wood Nails

Use the square piece of wood as the base for your wooden tray feeder. Now take your four pieces of wood and prop them up on all sides of the square. Hammer each strip to the base until you have a small square dish with sides. Insert a newspaper into the base, making sure to flatten it down properly so it doesn't fly out. Pour in the seeds and you are set to go. On top of a large post or table would be a great place to position your tray.

Children love building bird feeders as well. Once they spot you making one they'll naturally want to do something to help. Try giving them a pine cone, butter knife and some peanut butter and have them spread it all over the pine cone. When finished, have them sprinkle seeds all over it. They'll be happy that they got to make a bird feeder too.

Hopper feeders are little wooden bird feeders that look like houses; birds love these because they keep the wind and rain off them.

When caring for your wooden bird feeders always remember that you need to empty them of food every night, unless you can somehow cover them. Rain can ruin bird seeds and make birds extremely sick, and I'm sure that's the last thing you want.

Bird watching has always been, and always will be, a fun hobby. By building your own wooden bird feeders, you can make this a time full of memories for you and your children.

Decide what type of feeder you'll use and where in the yard it will go. Location is a key item when it comes to wooden bird feeders. If you don't have it in the right place the birds may never find it. <bio>Take a look at our video which shows you exactly how to make a wooden bird house at http://www.landscaping-for-wildlife.com/birdhouse-construction-video.html - Loads more information on landscaping for wildlife at our website at http://www.landscaping-for-wildlife.com </bio>

No matter what type of fish you have, whether it's an anemone, coral or crustacean...they will fall into one of three types of feeder.

Carnivores. These types of feeders eat other fish. They are all either predators or scavengers. Predators like to hunt for their food, so they may be uninterested in what you're feeding them, if they want to hunt instead. Once a predator has eaten, it may not feel the urge to eat again for a few days. Scavengers are more opportunistic, and usually prefer to eat the leftovers left by predators.

Herbivores. These types of feeders eat many marine plants and algae. To find their food, they spend their days moving around and grazing, picking up food whenever they can find it.

Omnivores. These types of fish are a mixture of the two above. They like to eat a combination of corals, crustaceans, invertebrates and also plants and algae.

It's important to remember that when you put food in your tank, many of your fish will ignore it for a while first. Because they aren't "fed" when they are in the ocean, they just aren't accustomed to being served food. Some of your fish will eventually learn that you are giving them food, but many others won't.

Herbivores and omnivores tend to adapt to being tank-fed quicker than other types of feeders. However, some breeds, Angels comes to mind, are used to finding their food on the ocean floor rather than free floating, so it will take a little long for them to understand.

How often should you feed your fish?

It's a good idea to stick to feeding your fish just once a day, and to feed them no more than they can eat in one minute. To some people this may seem like not enough, but if your fish aren't hurrying to eat up the food within a minute, they simply aren't hungry enough to need feeding. <bio>Learn more about tropical fish here: http://www.tropical-fish-blog.com </bio>

What is a bird feeding station? It's simple. It's an area within your yard or your property where bird feeders are set up. Most bird feeding stations are set up near the deck or a window, so that the birds are easier to view when they come.

A variety of feeders of different kinds should be used for attracting and feeding a wide variety of species. As for the food itself, bird seed is still popular, but fruit, suet, peanut butter, nectar, and mealworms are also great choices. If you want to attract a specific type of bird, though, there is a specific type of feeder and food that each species favor.

When placing your feeders, it's recommended that you pick a spot that can be seen while indoors, yet close enough to bushes or trees, so the birds can quickly fly to safety if danger should happen to be near. It's also advisable to separate the feeders for the smaller birds from those of the larger birds. Doing so will allow the smaller birds to enjoy their food in peace, and not have to compete with the other, bigger ones. They will appreciate you for it and will reward you by more frequent visits.

A curious thing will sometime happen when you place your seed bird feeders near or within a garden, because sometimes the seeds will sprout! Now, some people may not like the idea of pulling out sprouting plants, especially if they have a well-manicured garden. If so, they can choose to get shelled seeds instead. They will also have the bonus of not having to deal with discarded shells, although the downside is that shelled seeds tend to mold faster. Others may just let the seeds sprout (sunflower seeds for example) and grow a natural sunflower forest for the birds.

I have seen some bird feeding stations that have long branches along with the feeders; these are very nice. These branches can either be tied onto the feeders or pushed into the ground, thus adding some helpful perches for the birds to sit. Some people also use these branches to hang pieces of fruit, while others grow vines up the branches. Vines are useful for breeding insects for the birds, as well as adding some decorative touches. If you want to use vines, though, I suggest using red trumpet-shaped flowering vines, since these help attract hummingbirds and also provide nectar.

A great focal point for your bird feeding station, if you can find one, would be a dead tree (or snag), with the dangerous limbs removed. Woodpeckers and other insect-feeding birds can use the top of the tree, while the other feeders can be hanged on the lower branches. But avoid putting nesting boxes on a snag that is being used as a feeding station, as parent birds do not like lots of other birds around their little ones.

One critical ingredient in having a good bird feeding station is having a water source for the birds to drink and bathe. Never put a bird bath or pond too close to the feeding station, though. Aside from the fact that preening birds prefer some peace and quiet while arranging and drying their feathers, birds will avoid baths that have lots of other activity around them. Lastly, plant some flowers and plants near the bird feeding station to provide nectar and seeds for your visitors. Zinnias, coneflowers, and sunflowers are good choices. Birds will devour these seeds, especially during the autumn season. <bio>Azlan Irda is a co-founder of http://www.iannaturemall.com, where you can get all the bird watching equipment at the best prices.
