Change is inevitable but that doesn't mean one cannot learn to make something worthwhile of the necessary changes that life presents us with. Careers are great; they keep you on a steady part. When you choose a career, it helps you narrow down your options and helps you build yourself better. But there comes a time in life when you just have to own up to yourself that things are not going right in your chosen career and you may have to consider changing your career path.

Here are the top 5 things to consider when thinking of changing your career path

Fulfillment

No matter how much you are earning in your chosen career, fulfillment must never be undervalued. You need fulfillment in your job to really enjoy the benefits that come with it. A lot of people have changed jobs and careers because of lack of fulfillment and are having the time of their lives today. When you are thinking of a career change, fulfillment must be top on your list of considerations.

Your career is what takes up a lot of your time. You invest in your education and basically guide your life by it. You can't afford not to enjoy it because not enjoying your career is simply not enjoying your life. So when changing your career path you must make sure that what you are opting for gives you more fulfillment than what you presently have.

Required Skills

What are the required skills in the career you are thinking of changing to? It is very important you know you know these. You need to know what you need to get to get what you want. Do you have to go back to school? Will your present skills or education be useful in the new career? You need to really take your time to know whether you will be able to acquire the skills easily or not.

Strengths and Weaknesses

When thinking of changing careers, you must take a critical look at yourself and consider your strengths and weaknesses. Choose a career that accommodates your strengths and weaknesses. One in which you can enjoy being yourself and make money doing it.

Money

While it is important to get fulfillment from your job and career, it is also important you review the financial implications of changing careers. You need to be realistic about your pending career change. Know how much you have to spend to get yourself ready for the change. Know how much money you will need to acquire the necessary skills and or education to enjoy the best of the new career.

Do you have the financial capability to change careers now? Will it be worth it financially, changing careers now? You really need to answer these questions to make the right decision.

Help

In making in a great decision in changing your career path, you may need help. Never hesitate to ask for it. There are specialists in the field, like career counselors, who can help you put everything in perspective and guide you in making the right decision. They also can help you in putting all the above factors to use. <bio>If you are looking for a career change, Trios offers career training and development to fit your lifestyle and help you fulfill your dreams for the future. http://www.trios.com/career/ </bio>

Career change is one of the most important decision and the most important step in ones life. This career change can alter ones life completely and change it for ever. People change careers because they find their current careers boring, monotonies, and unchallenging. There are people who change their careers because they want to try out something new. There are many career changing options available. The industries have become more flexible and are welcoming multi tasking individuals. There are many examples of people who have changed their careers and have been successful at it.

A few important things that one should consider before changing one career are that The fore most thing is to identify the correct reason for which you are changing your a career. There can be many things like friend's influence, monotonous job, lack of growth opportunities, lack of passion, lack of incentives, etc. Once you understand the basic reason why you want to change your career then you will be in a position to think of the new career options.

The second most important thing is to choose a new career. The choice of the new career should be made according to the job opportunities, the growth option, and the pay packages and last but not the least your passion for the new career. There is no point in changing ones career just for the sake of changing it. One should have a strong enough to change his or her career and then also should be confident of doing well in the new career. Then one should also check out the courses that are on offer for the new career. Taking these courses will help you get a better job in that field and will also be helpful for your growth.

There are many part time courses that are available and can help you change your profession. For, example if an IT professional undergoes a part time course for fashion designing and if he is good at it, then he can change is career and become a fashion designer. If there is commerce graduate and he undertakes computer language courses then he can turn into an IT professional. There are no limitations on which course you can undertake or which sector you can work in, each and every career has some pros and cons. There are also career options like modeling, acting singing, drawing, carpentry, sports, business, stock brokers, etc.

While making a career change decision, you must ensure that you have some financial back up, in case you have to wait for a while before you land the new job. This financial savings back up will also allow you some time to deliberate over the various options and will not force you into making a decision in a hurry. After all, your first career choice may have been influenced by peer pressure, parental insistence or simply something random you thought you would like to try. A career change may be a way to correct some such mistakes or simply a way to experience something new.<bio>James Copper is a writer for http://www.newcareerskills.co.uk where you can find out how to get a career change</bio>

What do you do when the career you have chosen stresses you out? When this happens, it is easy to get depressed since your career is very important. As a result, here are some suggestions on how to deal with your career anxieties.

Determine why your career makes you stressed out. Maybe its some aspect of your career that makes you anxious or maybe you need a new job. Do some soul searching and determine the main causes of your career anxieties. Once you know why you are stressed, then develop a plan of action.

Maybe it is not your career that is stressful, but instead your job that is the problem. If it is your job that makes you anxious then try to find ways to improve the situation. If this doesn't work then change jobs.

Sometimes it may be the career itself that is the problem. Do not be afraid to change careers if you have to. People nowadays change careers for various reasons. Many adults go back to school to get the necessary training for their new career. The important thing is to determine which career best suits you.

Remember you have options. There are all kinds of jobs and careers out there so do not feel that your back is in the corner. If you do not know what to do, then take a career skills assessment test which will determine what kind of job or career best suits your particular interests and skill sets.

There are many career coaches that can give you additional advice. Your local college has career counselors that can give you much assistance and provide you with information on a variety of careers.

It is important to find a job or career that makes you feel good about yourself. Do not just take a job because the money is good or because it will impress your friends. You're the one who has to go to work everyday, so find something that you like to do and also will pay the bills. It will take some work, but eventually you will find something. <bio>Stan Popovich is the author of "A Layman's Guide to Managing Fear" an easy to read book that presents a overview of techniques that are effective in managing persistent fears and anxieties.
Not many people like to think about death; actually, most people probably prefer to avoid the topic altogether. Sometimes death comes with old age. Grandparents are usually quite old when they pass on, and because of their age, it's no real shock when they do. Sometimes death comes with shocking tragic accidents, such as automobile crashes, home-related disasters, and crime. And, sometimes death accompanies illness and disease.

So, we urge our elders to take care of themselves. We remind our spouses to drive carefully. We warn our children to stay away from strangers. And we try to make sure we, and everyone in our lives, avoid contracting illnesses and diseases. But how many of us worry about the safety of ourselves, our family members, and our friends at our careers? Beyond just the safety of the commute back and forth from our careers?

Some of us -- but not all.

Despite how safe we feel at work, and how safe we believe our loved ones are at work, there are several careers that are considered quite dangerous and can be fatal. Employees of these dangerous careers should consider purchasing much more life insurance than the average person.

Some of the most dangerous careers include law enforcement, firefighters, construction workers, truck drivers, aircraft pilots, and farmers. These careers put workers at risk for dying in the line of duty or dying because of an equipment malfunction. These careers involve weapons, fire, extremely large vehicle both on land and in the air, and powerful machinery. Even the most skilled professional at any one of these careers is at risk for a fatal accident.

Dangerous careers put you, and your family members, at risk for disasters. If you work in one of these careers, you should seriously consider purchasing a greater life insurance policy; that is, if your life insurance company hasn't already recommended or required you to purchase a larger life insurance policy. <bio>http://www.myquoteguide.com/High-Risk-Home.shtml http://www.ezquoteguide.com/home/ North Carolina Car Insurance </bio>

After all, the phrase "medical career" covers a lot of different jobs. For this reason it is quite important that you know what type of career you want, as well as what you think you would be best at.

Listed below are three medical careers that you should consider. They are quite popular, and will at least point you in the right direction.

1. Nursing is one of the most common medical careers. And of course everybody knows that a lot of doctors make big time money.

3. There are many administrative medical careers that you can look into as well. These are more or less office jobs that you can do. They include everything from booking appointments to collecting money. Even though this is not direct care with patients, it is still in the medical field.

These three medical careers are very popular. But remember, there are many options available to you. If you are interested in getting into the medical industry you will want to look into every available career. This way you will know what is out there, and what would suit you best. There is a lot of money to be made in the medical industry. Get started today, and take home your share in no time at all. <bio>Francois Botha has written over 1000 articles on various career subjects.
Do you want to pursue a career as a pilot? If so, you are in for major excitement. Flying a plane can be one of the most exhilarating experiences in the world, and doing so day in and day out is a great career. But before you get too excited about becoming a pilot you need to be aware of all the careers that are available in this field. After all, the more that you know about pilot careers the better off you will be in the long run. The most obvious career choice for a pilot is to work for a commercial airline. These airlines employ hundred of pilots to fly from one end of the world to the next, everyday of the week. The only bad part about trying to break into this area of the industry is that jobs are scarce due to a lot of competition. But with that being said, this does not mean that you should shy away from looking into this area of interest. If you stick with things long enough you will eventually work your way up to being a pilot of a major airline company.

Another career path that you may want to look into is becoming a private pilot. There are many people who need pilots to fly them around the world based off of their busy schedule. You can even start your own chartering business if you have enough interest in this line of work. Although it may take some time and money to get started, you can make much more in the long run.

Overall, there are many careers that you can follow if you are interested in becoming a pilot. You may be up against a bit of competition, but when you think about it this is the same regardless of what type of career you are interested in. The key is to find out what careers are available, and then make a decision early on as to what path you want to follow. <bio>Francois offers information on career descriptions at his website http://www.career-descriptions.co.uk. The fear of not having any keeps most in their current positions as it is safe, they know that the income is secure for as long as they stay there. It is easy for money to take over people's lives and have power over them. It can get in the way of making important decisions due to already conceived beliefs and attitudes towards it.

How do you perceive money? There is a popular misconception that one must be unhappy at work should they want to make money, and if they were to be happy at work this would mean that financial reward would be sacrificed. And then there are some people that believe in order to change careers they need to be well-off to start out, and that they shouldn't even be thinking about a career change if they can't afford it initially.

In actual fact, money isn't everything and it certainly shouldn't stand in the way of you getting a job you really enjoy. Many people's dreams of their ideal job are lost to apathy and discouragement towards the idea of having to leave a comfortable position in an attempt to move up the career ladder. There have been plenty of people before who have actually changed careers without having to compromise money. Here are some tips for how to achieve a happy medium:

It is best to take it easy. Career changes happen progressively so you don't need to have sorted all of your money troubles ahead of time. Take one step at a time, allowing time to work things out with your finances. It's more important to focus on your career change e.g. setting up interviews and getting things underway, and also on your money e.g. making plans to pay down your debt or sort your retirement savings.

Finding the money to pursue your career venture is all part of the process. Practical dreamers do not wait for the lottery in order to make a dream happen, they go out and fight for it. They won't complain about not having the money to make a change happen, they will instead get to the heart of the matter straight away and figure out how to make the money.

When you assess how important your dream is to you, you will find that you are most likely to give up expenses that don't mean much in comparison to your dreams. Because of this, you end up spending less money in the future, whilst also reducing the amount of stress. As your career is taking top priority, you will find that you want and need less.

Money can be seen as a tool for providing you with what you want, and it should not be messed around with. Dissect your relationship with money: work out why you have issues with it. Think of how you feel about money and don't let it take over your life. Remember: it is you that is in control of your career path, the path should not control you.<bio>James Copper is a writer for http://www.newcareerskills.co.uk</bio>

If you are looking for the perfect career for you but are unsure of where to look or what to look for, then don't go any further without doing a career search. A career search is a great way to learn about potential careers without making any commitments or signing any contracts first.

The basic idea of a career search is two-fold. The first main purpose of doing a career search is to learn about all the possible careers that are available to be had as great professions. For example, you may know that some people make a great career out of being a chef, but have you ever considered being a chef that gets to travel the world and cook on cruise ships? Or maybe you have considered nannying as a career choice for you. With a career search you may learn that you can be a nanny in another country and make just as much money if not more.

The possibilities for making money and for enjoying your career are nearly endless. Do not let yourself get sucked into a job you hate simply because you haven't taken the time to find a career that is right for you. As a career counselor, I meet with far too many people each week that are stuck doing jobs they hate simply to pay the bills because they didn't know that other careers were really possible. So take my advice and do a career search before you make any other job commitments. You just may be missing out on a career you could love.

A second main purpose of doing a career search is to learn more about yourself. You may not even have a good idea of what kinds of careers would fit your personality and skills until you do a career search to learn more about yourself. Take time to do some of the personality and skill tests that accompany career searches and see what is right for you. If you are going to spend the majority of your life working, as most people do, than why not take your time and through a career search learn what is truly the best career for you.

Having a career you love is one of the most rewarding things in life. Doing a career search can be one of the easiest ways to discover what careers will bring you the best rewards. <bio>Triston Huntsmin is a professional career counselor that encourages all potential-workers to do a career search before making a long term choice about careers.
So, you want to be an Interior Designer. Interior design careers are full of excitement, hard work and potentially a lot of money! A designer is a businessperson and an artist; they are not just a person with an eye for beauty. You have the opportunity to work with a variety of people and even do a lot of traveling. Interior design careers allow an individual to display their creativity. There is detailed sketching, designing and arranging gorgeous living spaces and of course, a lot of shopping is involved.

Interior design careers are not all about glamour. There is a lot of hard work and stress involved. An Interior Designer must be able to manage people and work under a great deal of pressure. They must also be able to manage budgets and build client relationships. A designer must adhere to all building and safety codes as well.

A degree is becoming essential for those embarking on interior design careers. Many states require designers to be licensed.

Before choosing a school to embark on your interior design careers, it is crucial to research the school curriculum and to research the proper state licensing requirements. Then, find out which schools will allow you to reach your goal. When you have done your licensing research then you should determine what type of interior design degree you want and whether or not the school has the proper accreditation.

Another important factor when considering interior design careers is work experience. An apprenticeship or internship will greatly enhance your transition from school to the real world. A program called the Interior Design Experience Program is a program that will help the student during their transition period.

The student who aspires to enter the world of interior design careers should have a personal portfolio of their work. The portfolio should show the students creativity and their interior design ability. Examples of organization and problem solving are also an important part of a student's portfolio.

Find out if the school has a placement program or career services program. This will be very important if you do not know the right people or know someone that knows the right person. Good luck as you embark on the exciting world of interior design careers. <bio>Thomas D. Houser Thinking of a career in Interior Design?
Career is one big word. Sometimes, that word alone gives the whole idea of the plans of a particular person, of where he or she is heading.

This is could be one reason why people take their careers seriously. For one, college courses taken are very crucial as the years spent in the university can very well direct the course of a lifetime.

Some people make the big decision when they leave school. Some prepare for this in high school or as early as during the years of late childhood, when one becomes dreaming to become someone, a doctor or a lawyer perhaps.

Of course, there are those who realize their desired careers in their adulthood. In the middle of performing a career, they suddenly realize that they need a complete change of direction. Changing Your Career

Changing career is not an easy thing to do, especially for one who has stayed on one field for quite a long time. This can sometimes occur because the individual suddenly had a change of heart. For some, they simply found their current work hostile to them.

For example, a person in the advertising world may found the pressures of the job too much to handle. A radical choice can lead him or her to quit job to do home-based business where one can easily manage the time for everything.

There are several factors that push people into changing their careers. For one, they do not get the right support in the working place. Possibly, people are too competitive that everyone is left on their own without much encouragement.

Another reason is the discrimination that could occur in many ways. This is not favorable for those on the other end of the line, especially if the organization does nothing with such events.

There are also work places where the opportunity to advance to higher positions is very limited. This hinders growth and can often leave the employee to a stump. As such, most people seek further studies and go to another field where they can best excel and display their prowess.

How to Successfully Change Your Career

The event of changing your career can be very nerve-wracking. It sounds like a drastic move. The other end of the tunnel seems so unsure and unstable.

This is a normal reaction, given that you could have gotten used to your present career that leaving it can also need some courage and determination.

Of course, there are people who have done this before and they made the right choice in following their heart and establishing themselves in the careers they really want. The change can be easily facilitated by just knowing how to do it.

1. Know Your Skills

Get a sheet of paper. Recall the past years that you have worked. Write down all the things you have been good at or the things you have enjoyed doing. Consider all the activities and experiences that will come to mind.

The things listed shall give you a good idea of your mechanical, intellectual and social skills. It shall also apprise you of what you really like and passionate about.

2. Get Help on Career Suggestions

Given the points above, evaluate the other careers that utilize your skills. It may also be more advisable to seek assistance in this aspect. There are counselors who can help you in the career exploration aspect.

3. Do Your Own Research

It also pays if you can do your research to get more career ideas. There are web sites that can be utilized to get ideas on what careers will best suit your skills. Classified ads are also helpful in this regard.

Also, once you have narrowed down on the choices, it pays to learn more about a particular selection. Make sure that you know how it works, be familiar with the other skills you need and acquaint with the institutions involved.

4. Get into a Career You Really Love and Enjoy

Passion is an important thing in this lifetime. This is the driving force to make you reach new heights. Thus, you must evaluate careers that are in line with your passions so you can love and enjoy what you do. This will help you realize the real you. <bio>For more great career related articles and resources check out http://123careers.info </bio>

Are you searching for your dream career? Have you gone through many bad jobs, and are finally getting tired of it? Do you just want to find a career that you like? If you answered yes to any of these questions you are in the same boat as a lot of people. The bottom line is that finding a career that you like is not always the easiest thing to do. Some people go through many careers before they finally find the one that is right for them. At the same time, there are many others who find their dream career the first time out. Regardless of what situation you are in, you can find your dream career if you put your mind to it.

The first step to finding your dream career is determining what it is. After all, if you do not know what your dream career is, how can you ever find it? You can get information on many different careers by searching online or talking with a career counselor. The point is you need to know what is out there to find what you are interested in the most.

When you know what career you want to try out, you will then want to search far and wide for the best position. This can be done by going through the classifieds in your local newspaper and also using the internet job boards. The more jobs that you come across, the better chance you have of finding one that is your dream career. You should not make the mistake of only searching in one place or in one location. If you do this you will have a very difficult time pinpointing your dream career.

Overall, finding your dream career may take you many years. But one thing is for sure; if you put the time into searching for your dream career you will get it in the end. And all in all, this is the only thing that counts when everything is said and done. <bio>Francois Botha has written over 1000 articles on various career subjects.
We all get to the point in life where it seems like something is missing, something small that could help you get to the point in your life where you could attain true happiness, whether it be in the area of work, family, relationships, or anything else.

Motivational speakers are people who are professionally trained to address an audience with a specific purpose in mind, and that is to provide motivation for various circumstances that occur during the natural course of life. If you need a little motivation in any area of your life, perhaps you should consider attending a seminar or looking up events that feature motivational speakers in your local area.

It is okay to need a little bit of help sometimes; motivational speakers are excellent aids in self improvement as they design their speeches and arrange their words in a way that is supposed to engage the listener, and allow the listener put themselves in the speaker's position allowing both of them to identify with each other. This way, it is easier for the listener to see the way out of their current problem, to see how to fix the problem or correct whatever it is about the situation that isn't right. It is often something small and minute that hinders people in life, and self improvement is often a matter of finding what it is that needs to be fixed, no matter the size or severity of the problem.

Some of the areas in which motivational speakers can aid in self improvement are:

*Parenting - Step Parenting

*Careers - Transitioning Careers - Changing Careers - Career Advancement

*Relationships - Marriage

*And More!

For all of life's situations, there is at least one motivational speaker out there who is trained to deal in that; many different people choose to attend motivational speaker events, whether it is for work or pleasure. You might not think that motivational speakers and events like that are not your cup of tea, but if you try attending at least one event, chances are that your mind will change. True, motivational speakers are not for everybody. Their style is to motivate and stimulate the brain and not everybody is into that. However, if you are at all into self improvement and you are looking to make a change in your life, consider taking the advice of a motivational speaker, or at least being open to the idea. You might be surprised with the results! <bio>http://www.HealthLifeLove.com and http://www.TheHerbalRemedy.net are dedicated to helping you achieve levels of wellbeing that cross the barriers of conventional standards. </bio>

There are fewer worries when you're a kid. Your parents provide for all your material and emotional needs. As a person grows old, their needs and wants also grow with them. And finally, when they graduate college, it is now time to start a life of their own.

Looking for the right career that is of great interest to you can be quite hard. But if you successfully choose a good career and decide to keep it, you're life will be worth living.

There are many career paths to take. So before anything else, you should make sure that you're on the right path. Oftentimes, people end up with a job or career that they are not interested in; they simply manage to push through with it because they need the money.

In today's hard times, having a good paying job is already enough. You can finance all your expenses, most especially if you have children to support. But if the situation is like this, a time will come when you will finally get tired of doing a work that you're not interested in.

If you belong in the generation of the baby boomers, you already have a career by now. You're the type of person who wants to work harder and for longer hours. If you want a career change, it's never too late. In fact, most of the baby boomers in the workforce are retiring late, and there are still those who change their careers. Most boomers want to continue in contributing or working even after they retire.

It's common to change a career in your lifetime. You can even find people who changed their careers more than three times. The reason behind this is that they haven't found yet the right career that they can be satisfied with, and what they love doing. Perhaps they will stop changing careers only after they found what suits their needs and wants.

Confronting a career change for a baby boomer can be a bit difficult. Boomers grew up in a prosperous world, where everything was easy for them to have like education and their material needs. And with today's competitive market, a baby boomer should be able to compete with other capable people.

It would be better to view a career change as an opportunity to find a better career, one that will suit you best. You should find a job that you love doing and one that you could be satisfied with until you retire from work.

Around 3% of people going through changes in their career are only forced to do so because they were laid-off and about 4.5% just want to explore something else. Undergoing a shift in career will be much easier, enjoyable, and productive if you do a couple of things like:

1.	assess your skills and see if it can be used in other jobs 2.	money doesn't matter to most people; so find a job that is meaningful for you, one that you love doing 3.	find where your passion lies 4.	always be realistic; if your skills doesn't suit the job, you're probably better of without it 5.	do you want to stay in the profession or do you want a radical change in your career 6.	if you're satisfied with the present company that you belong, perhaps you can ask for re-training 7.	don't mind your age, what's important is your skills and the things that you can do 8.	you can join organizations in the field that you're interested in

These are just few of the things that you can do before seeking for a new career. Your job experience matters in getting into another career, as well as relevant trainings.

Change is natural. The world changes every day; inventions can happen overnight. But with a career change, you can't do it with the snap of your finger. You should consider a lot of things like your family, your needs, and other important matters.

It's never too late for baby boomers. You've lived your life long enough as a happy-go-lucky individual. It's time to stick with the realities of life and start working hard in your new-found career. <bio>Steve D'Agostino has extensive experience with financial planning and health issues.
Imagine how dull life would be if it weren't for change. Life is all about changes: in our relationships, our selves and our professions. There will come a point along your career path when you'll be facing a change. When it happens, grab onto the opportunity and run with it!

Career change is a natural life progression. Many studies show that average job seekers will change careers several times over the course of his or her lifetime. Facing career changes can be unsettling, but following a simple six-step plan can keep you grounded and on the path to success.

Step One: Assess your likes and dislikes.

Determine what you really love to do, and what you could do without. Many people change careers because of the elements they dislike; for example, their organization, their boss or even the type of work they do. It's important to identifying exactly what it is you're unhappy about. You may think it's your boss, when it's actually the work itself.

On the other hand, you can't possibly know what career path to take unless you examine your likes. What do you really love to do? What's the best thing about your profession? What is your passion? What do you do for fun? If you could have any profession, what would it be? Ask yourself these questions, and reply honestly. If you've analyzed your likes and dislikes, but you're still not sure what career path to take, consider taking a career assessment. The key is investing in the time to rediscover yourself, and using your self-assessment to steer your new career search.

Step Two: Research new careers.

Once you've discovered your passion, spend some time researching the types of careers that will focus on those particular skills or interests. Don't worry if you're feeling insecure or unsure. This is a natural and healthy part of the career change process. Research online, visit the library or career centers, or speak with professionals in that line of business. Find as much information as you can. The amount of research you do will reflect how badly you want a career change.

Step Three: Know your transferable skills.

Recognize your current skills, and leverage some of that well-earned experience into your new career. There are many skills that you hold right now that are transferable and applicable to your potential new career. Make a list of the skills and experience you already possess, and those that will be required in your new profession. Chances are you'll be surprised to see that you already hold a solid amount of talent and knowledge to apply to your new career.

Step Four: Training and education.

Career changes usually require training or upgrading. Depending on the path that you choose, you'll likely find it necessary to update your skills and broaden your knowledge. Sign up for a course or two, just to be sure that this is a career you'll really enjoy. Take it slowly, and learn everything there is to know so that you can start your new career on the right foot. If the skill that you need to learn is one that could be applied in your current profession, look into training courses that your employer might cover financially. If you need to obtain a new degree or certification, check the accreditation of the school you choose, and verify their placement success.

Step Five: Networking.

One of the real keys to successfully changing careers will be your ability to network successfully. People in your existing network of coworkers, friends, family members and associates may be able to give you job leads, offer you advice or provide information about particular companies or industries. Broaden your network by asking the people you already know to introduce you to others. Professional organizations are an excellent way to expand a network. Consider joining a service club, or a professional organization involving people in your field of interest. Contact college alumni who are working in the field to see if they can offer leads or advice.

Step Six: Be flexible.

Career changes can be sudden and unplanned, so you need to be ready to adapt to possible changes. You will need to be flexible in your employment status and seniority, and perhaps even areas like salary or residence. You need to decide how badly you want the career change, and how far you are willing to bend to make it happen. Set positive goals for yourself, but expect changes or setbacks. Don't let unplanned changes dampen your positive outlook. Even lateral moves can turn into complete career turnarounds. You may take the same job with a different company, and find that your new forward-thinking supervisor wants to promote you.

If you're considering a career change, think it through and take the time to make it work. Then, when the opportunity presents itself, you'll be ready to grab on and run with it. <bio>Linda Miller contributes articles to several popular web sites, especially http://nugoz.com and http://wetid.com </bio>

A culinary arts career is an inviting prospect for many people.

For one thing, demand is up, as people's busy lives cause them to eat out more and more. For another, a culinary education opens up a variety of possible careers, from running the kitchen in a top restaurant to the very desirable option of owning your own business.

But many ask if there really is money to be made in a culinary arts career. Most of us, when we think of cooks, think of the greasy hamburger flippers at the local diner. There is a good reason that those jobs are normally filled with teenage employees, and that's because anyone with a culinary education and a career plan sets their sights much higher. There are a number of culinary arts careers that offer ambitious folk true earning potential.

Below is a list of eight top culinary arts careers available to those with the appropriate education and experience.

Personal chef A personal chef typically works in a private home for a private employer. Because of this setup, a personal chef often has more flexibility within his or her work environment, not to mention more creative control over the menu. Full time personal chefs usually earn between $35,000 and $50,000.

Head cook or chef The head cook or chef is a culinary arts career that many cooks set their sights on. The head chef at a restaurant is generally in charge of developing menu choices and managing a team of cooks. Although the average salary is $34,000 annually, a head chef at a top restaurant can easily make as much as $60,000, or even more.

Restaurant manager A restaurant manager is in charge of not just the kitchen and its cooks, but also the wait staff. Although a restaurant manager's salary averages around $50,000 annually, a manager in an upscale restaurant can earn considerably more. However, you should also keep in mind that many managers work long hours with little or no overtime compensation.

Pastry chef Believe it or not, being a pastry chef is another good culinary arts career. Pastry chefs' salaries average at about $50,000 annually, although the yearly income is a little less for those who are paid hourly wages.

Executive chef Executive chefs are primarily found at upscale restaurants, and average around $75,000 annually. However, executive chefs can make as much as $120,000 annually in top restaurants.

Sommelier A sommelier, also known as a wine steward, is usually present in upscale restaurants. Although a sommelier's income averages around $60,000, it can sky rocket as high as $150,000.

Wine director A wine director does much the same thing as a sommelier. The average income for a wine director is $85,000 annually.

World-class chef World-class chefs are the ones you see and hear about every day. For example, Wolfgang Puck is a world-class chef who is well known for his signature line of convenience foods. World-class chefs can easily make as much as $100,000, but that figure can increase exponentially if you know how to market your signature lines via books, magazines, television, and other media outlets. A world-class chef is the type of culinary arts career that most cooks fantasize about, and many self-employed caterers hope to eventually make a reality.

As you can see, there are many opportunities available for you to find a high paying culinary arts career. Next time you talk about your dreams, and your friends or family say, "There's no money in that," rattle off a few of these jobs and see if you can't change their minds. <bio>Andy West is a freelance writer for The Culinary Institute of Virginia College.
