The Basics of Motorola Two Way Radios

Motorola two way radios work almost like a cellular telephone in that they are used as a method of communication between people in different locations but there are a few major differences between the two way radio communication and telephone communication. The most noticeable difference between two way radio and telephone communication is that to the people talking on two way radios have to take turns talking -- this is called the 'half-duplex' mode of operation (telephone conversations, where people can be talking at the same time, uses what is called full-duplex mode).

There are two frequency bands in use for two way radios these are the Family Radio Service (FRS) band and the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) band. The FRS band is specifically used for short-range communication between two way radios -- short range is defined as 2 miles or less. The GMRS band is used for two way radios uses that require longer range operation, where the users may be up to eight miles from each other.

Some two way radios are only able to use the FRS band but almost all Motorola two way radios in commercial use are able to take advantage of both the FRS and GMRS bands.

One important note about GMRS operation: The FCC regulates two way radios that operate on the GMRS band and requires users of this type of radio to obtain a license and pay a fee. The GMRS license is good for five years and costs $80.00; the license must be obtained by an adult (the radios operating under the license may be used by minors but only with the licensed adult's knowledge and permission). Go to the FCC's Internet page at: http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/index.htm?job=service_homeandid=general_mobile for more information on GMRS licensing.

Channels! There are 22 channels commonly used on two way radios: Channels 1 through 7 can be used by all two way radios whether they are using the FRS range or the GMRS range; channels 8 through 14 are reserved for used by radios using the FRS band and channels 15 through 22 are reserved for use by radios using the GMRS band. How this works in practical terms is pretty simple; basically, all the two way radios within eight miles of each other that are set to the same channel will be able to communicate with each other. The catch is, everyone with a radio receiver set to that channel's frequency will also be able to hear whatever is said -- so be careful about what you say. To combat that problem, most Motorola two way radios are also equipped with "privacy codes." These privacy codes will break up a single channel into many sub-channels which gives the radio users much more privacy. <bio>http://twowayradioshq.com Find out more about Two Way Radios. </bio>

Frequency Considerations for Recreational 2 Way Radios

If you are in the market for 2 way radios for personal use, you have an immediate and important choice to make: What radio frequency band do you require?

Frequency! 2 way radios obviously utilize 'wireless' communication methods so when using a 2 way radio you are transmitting and sending your message through the air -- the same air that is currently carrying television signals, commercial radio signals, Ham radio signals and literally thousands of signals from other private 2 way radios. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has the job of controlling all of these communication signals so they don't run into each other; to accomplish this they have reserved frequency bands for use by certain types of communication (signal sending) devices. There are two frequency bands in use for recreational 2 way radios, these are called Family Radio Service (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS).

In 1996, the FCC reserved a set of radio frequencies they called the Family Radio Service (FRS) band, specifically for short-range 2 way radios (radios that operate no more than 2 miles away from each other) with a small power output (up to 500 milliwatts or one-half watt).

About fifty years before the FCC created the FRS band they had reserved a set of frequencies for higher power 2 way radios that operated over a longer range this is the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) band. The GMRS band is for radios with a power output between one and five watts and a range over 2 miles. The FCC regulates the 2 way radios that operate on the GMRS band and requires users of this type of radio to obtain a license and pay a fee.

When buying 2 way radios, your choice is between a set of radios that operates only on one of these frequency bands or a set of radios that is able to operate on either one of these frequency bands. This determination will obviously have to be made based on the maximum distance the radio users will be from each other. If the radios are to be used within two miles of each other, FRS will be the best (and least expensive) choice. If a greater distance is consistently required, 2 way radios that operate on the GMRS frequency band will be required. If the need for distance is uncertain or if you want the option of occasionally transmitting up to five miles a FRS/GMRS hybrid is the radio set to choose. <bio>http://twowayradioshq.com Find out more about Two Way Radios. </bio>

Two way radios are awesome! Do you even know what they are? They are radios that allow you to communicate in two ways! Unlike a phone, two way radios are limited in the distance that they can transmit and receive signal.

As a child, do you remember having walkie-talkies? You probably used to have a set. The set I had even had a Morse code button on it, and a key that showed common Morse codes that stood for certain words and phrases.

S.O.S. is one you've probably heard of, which is three short beeps for "S", three long beeps for "O", then three more short beeps for another "S". S.O.S. means "Save Our Ship" and was a common command used back in the days when two way radios were used by ship captains to call for help and communicate with other ships.

Even if you never learned Morse code, you probably had fun with walkie-talkies which is another name for two way radios. Your friend or sibling probably went around one side of the house while you were on the other side. Then you would message back and forth and pretend to be police, firemen, or even spies! How much fun was that?

Did you know that two way radios are still used today, and not just as toys? There are high quality two way radios you can buy from stores and online that allow you to keep in touch with people in areas where cell phone signal is low or non-existent!

Conventional two way radios use fixed radio frequency (RF) channels to send and receive audio or other information. Newer radios have multiple channels so that, in case other people are using two way radios nearby, you can find an unused channel.

One application of two way radios is for emergency crews such as police and firemen. Most likely you've seen televisions shows such as Law and Order or Cops, where the authorities use two way radios to connect to others in law enforcement or emergency situations. Again, the importance of a two radio in these situations is that cell phone technologies and other communication technologies might not be as stable or as effective as two way radio technology.

What a concept! A technology that came out as early as 1912 is still in use a century later and is still superior in certain applications! That's pretty amazing!

Two way radios are also useful for average people who want to do things like travel. If you are traveling with a loved one such as a friend or relative (especially a younger one) you'll want to stay in contact. Two way radios, once again, are the ideal choice since they are not subject to cell tower proximity or cellular signal availability. Just press the button and talk, as long as you're within a certain distance.

And yes, children do still use "walkie-talkie" two way radios. Surprisingly, they still enjoy it just as much as we did, too! Perhaps this is one invention that will outlive us all! <bio>Want a two way radio?
A lot of companies choose a promotional radio when they are looking for a promotional item for their company. They are something that people are going to like and that are going to give people a lasting impression of the company. They are going to be reminded of the company every time that they look at the radio. But when a company is looking at promotional radios, they wonder how they can choose which promotional radio they should choose for their company.

There are a few things to consider when you are choosing a promotional radio, and this will help you to choose the right promotional radio or radios that are right for your company.

Budget

One of the first things that you should consider when you are choosing a promotional radio is how much you can spend on them. You want to make sure that you don't overextend yourself but that you have enough so that you can get the right types of radios for your company.

Recipients

The second thing that you want to do is to figure out who you are going to be giving your promotional radio to. Are you going to be giving them out at trade shows and conventions to entice people to buy your products or are you going to be giving them to clients and employees as appreciation gifts? If you are giving them out at trade shows, chances are that you are going to buy promotional radios that are inexpensive. But if you are giving them out to clients and employees, you will want to buy nicer ones.

Company

The third thing that you want to do is to think about your company. What types of company is it? Do you sell high end products and services? If you are offering people items that are expensive as opposed to ones that aren't very expensive, you want to choose promotional radios that are going to aptly represent your company. You don't want to offer inexpensive promotional radios when the products that you sell are expensive.

Target audience

The last thing that you want to figure out when you are choosing promotional radios is your target audience. If your target audience is children, you are going to want to choose promotional radios that are more whimsical and fun, but if your target audience is adults, something more practical is going to be in order.

Promotional radios are something that every company can use to promote their business. There are a lot of different types of promotional radios that a company can choose from, all different sizes and colours.

They also come in a variety of prices, so there are promotional radios to fit any budget. When you give out promotional radios to people, whether they are potential customers, clients or employees, you are going to find that they are going to remember your company fondly.

When you give people the joy of music with promotional radios, you are going to find that you are getting more and more customers and people will keep coming back to your company more.<bio>Miles Lovegrove is director of Fluid Branding, the UK's largest supplier of promotional radio items and other Promotional Products at www.fluidbranding.com.
Radios that can receive and transmit communications are known as 2 way radios. Some common examples are walkie-talkies, CB radios and even cellular phones. While these products are very different in nature, they are common in that they receive and transmit communication and are classified as 2 way radios.

There are many uses for 2 way radios, including a camping trip with the family where walkie talkies help everyone to stay in touch. When in the wilderness, a cell phone is not likely to have a signal and this is why walkie talkies are so helpful. If individuals should get separated from one another while camping, having a way to remain in communication is invaluable. In order for 2 way radios to work, individuals must be on the same frequency or channel to communicate. Before separating, families should make sure that everyone is on the same channel incase the devices are needed.

The uses of other 2 way radios, such as cell phones, are more obvious. Car problems while out on the highway can be a major issue unless you have a cell phone to keep you in contact with the outside world. In addition, landline phones often have problems and may be out of service temporarily. In many of these instances, however, cell phones are still operational and can offer a way to report the outage to phone companies, stay in touch with family and friends or make emergency calls if needed.

There are a number of places to find 2 way radios, including retail and specialty stores. The internet is also a wonderful way to find 2 way radios in a variety of styles, features and price ranges. Most electronics feature a manufacturer's warranty when purchased new, so take note of any such offerings when browsing for 2 way radios. Warranties often last for 90 days to one year and cover repairs and/or replacements of any product that is defective as a result of workmanship or materials. It is best to keep any warranty information tucked away in a safe place for later retrieval.

As a final thought with 2 way radios, it is best to test the product before putting it to actual use. In other words, the best way to test a walkie talkie is not when you are already out on a camping trip. The best time would be before you leave home and always be sure to test the distance at which you can still communicate without any problem. <bio>To find out more about 2 way radios, please visit our website at http://www.2-way-radio-guide.info .
When was the last time you tried out a decent set of 2 way radios? Now wait a minute; those Dixie cups you had back when you were four, don't really count. Okay, what am I talking about. Of course they count. Those were like the caveman version of what we toy around with these days. However, sometimes that string between them just wasn't long enough. And you know what that meant; no long distance calls. Okay, now I'm just being down right weird. Regardless of the old-school method of transmitting messages, today we have much better technology. For example, have you seen those sweet new 2 way radios from Motorola?

Are you one of those gadget nuts? You know, the kind of guys who like to buy every new electronic advice known to man. Okay, sorry ladies. I know there are also some female gadget nuts out there. Anyway, what is your absolute favorite innovation? I'm talking about that one handy little device that you simply can't survive without. Is it the fancy new GPS system in your SUV? Is it that all-in-one remote control you purchased last week that basically deals with every electronic in your home? Or maybe it's your nifty cell phone that keeps you tied up for hours each day.

I think it's safe to say that we all have that particular device that we can't get along without. For me it is my Mac Ibook G4. I use this baby relentlessly, and certainly don't plan on quitting. However, for my seven-year-old daughter it is her 2 way radios. She addicted to these things.

Those babies are the bomb. I couldn't help but purchase a pair for my daughter and me. We love to play games around the house and pretend we're working covert operations for a secret government agency. With 2 way radios we can be in totally different areas and still have the ability to communicate well with one another. Not to mention that these are ideal for children when it comes to safety. Imagine all that you could do with a fine set of 2 way radios.

Pass one to your child when he/she steps out that door to play alone in the yard. Every once in a while you can send a quick message, inquiring their status. This is a great way to keep up with your little ones and keep them safe. With a contemporary set of 2 way radios, they will just think you're playing a fun game with them. Hop online today and check out all the 2 way radios available. <bio>Ernest R.
CB radios emerged in the 70s as a popular method for communicating on America's roadways. While not as mainstream as they once were, CB radios are still widely used by owners of trucks, jeeps, RVs, cars and motorcycles.

There are a number of alternatives to CB radios which include two-way radios, GMRS radios, HAM radios and business band radios. In order to choose a solution that best fits your needs, it's important to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each available option. CB radios, like all the previously mentioned radio types, have a number of unique advantages and disadvantages that should be evaluated when considering a purchase:

Advantages

No Licensing Fees: Unlike some types of radios, CB radio operators aren't required to obtain a license from the FCC. This makes CB radios a very convenient choice if you don't want to hassle with licensing exams and requirements.

Widespread Acceptance: CB radios are the most widely used means of radio vehicle-to-vehicle communication on America's highways. On virtually all major roadways, you'll be able to hear activity on Channel 19, the most widely used CB channel. Whether you'd like to obtain traffic information, road condition updates or just strike up a friendly conversation, you'll be able to on a CB due to the radio's widespread use.

Cost Effective: It's possible to purchase a complete CB radio setup (including a radio, antenna and mounting hardware) for well under a $100. On a cost basis, CB radios can match, if not beat, most radio options. Additionally, they are usually permanently installed in a vehicle which provides for additional convenience and professionalism.

Disadvantages

Restricted Range: Due to restrictions by the FCC, all 11 meter CB radios are restricted to 4 watts of transmission power. This usually limits a CB radio's effective range to eight miles or less, dependent upon terrain and weather conditions. While CB radios are effective for short to intermediate transmission distances, they aren't well suited for someone with long range communication needs.

Antenna Requirements: As all CB radios transmit with the same 4 watts of power, the antenna is the primary determinant of system performance. Subsequently, CB radios need to make use of large externally mounted antennas to perform well. As these antennas tend to run anywhere from 12 inches to over 5 feet in length, they can be impractical and inconvenient on many vehicles. While short antennas can and are used, they usually produce inadequate radio performance.

Permanent Installation: CB radios generally require a permanent installation due to antenna and performance concerns, and are not a practical choice when a compact and mobile means of communication is required. Handheld CB radios are available, but tend to provide sub-standard performance unless used with a long telescoping or external antenna.

Summary

CB radios are still a widely used means of communication, especially on America's roadways. While not suited for everyone, they offer an extremely affordable and convenient way to communicate for those who understand the medium's strengths and limitations.<bio>Right Channel Radios specializes in CB radios and CB antenna sales.
Americans are slowly changing the way that they listen to music. Instead of listening to limited radio stations that are sometimes filled with commercials, people are now getting their music through satellite radio.

Sirius and XM are the top suppliers of satellite radio. To listen to this amazing, commercial free programming all listeners will need a satellite radio player. If you are interested in making the switch from traditional radio programming to satellite radio then you have four options when it comes to selecting a player.

(1) Satellite Radio Players for the Car

When you are in your car, how often do you turn the radio on? Since the majority of Americans listen to music when they are in their vehicle, satellite radio players for the car are always in demand. Satellite radio players that are designed for cars often come in two varieties. There are some players that can be inserted where a traditional car radio goes. These players would require a mounting plate. Circle or other shaped players can be mounted on the dashboard or the ceiling of vehicle.

The average price for satellite radio players designed for the car is between $70 and $150.

(2) Portable Satellite Radio Players

In addition to satellite radio, other advancements in music include Ipods and MP3 players. These products are popular because they are portable. One thing that many individuals, maybe even yourself included, do not know about satellite radios is that some of them are also portable. These portable players are most commonly used when exercising or traveling on foot.

The average price for a portable satellite radio is between $200 and $350.

(3) Home-based Satellite Radio Players

Satellite radio players that are designed for home are similar to the above mentioned players; however, they are often stationary. Home-based satellite radios come in a wide variety of different designs. The different design options make it possible to match a player with a particular home dιcor color or style. Due to the size of most home satellite radios, they are often unable to be used in vehicles or as portable players.

The average price for a home-based satellite radio player is between $100 and $400.

(4) AllinOne Satellite Radios

If you are music lover then it is likely that the above mentioned satellite radio players appealed to you, but what if all of them did? Purchasing a satellite radio player for the home, vehicle, and another one to take with wherever you go can get fairly expensive. All-in-one satellite radios are a solution to that potentially expensive problem. All-in-one satellite radios are small enough so they can be transported whenever you go and they can also be used in the home or in your car.

The average price of an all-in-one satellite player is between $150 and $350.

The features found on a satellite radio player will all depend on the manufacturer; however, there are some common product features. The majority of satellite radio players come with rechargeable batteries, full color displays, channel presents, a remote control, and song storage. Portable players are likely to come with headphones and a belt clip. Satellite radios that are designed for the vehicle are likely to come with stands, suction cups, and other dashboard accessories.

If you are interested in subscribing to a commercial-free satellite radio service then you will need at least one of the above mentioned satellite radio players. Of course, you have the final decision when it comes to selecting a particular player, but you should know that all-in-one satellite radio players are now the most popular. All-in-one satellite radios give you the ability to hook the player up to your car speakers, your speakers at home, or your headphones. To most Americans, the features are well worth the price. <bio>Matt Barstow offers valuable tips and information about satellite radio, players, and services.
The citizens' band radio (CB) is a communication system used for short-distance communication in selected channels within a single band, usually 27MHz. This system is, more or less, a personal communication system and does not require any license to operate. It's very popular in the United States.

CB radio systems operate in MHz between HF and UHF bands. The signals at different frequencies behave differently and thus affect the performance of the equipment. Initially, CB radios operated in the 460 to 470 MHz band. In 1958, a type of CB radio known as Class D was permitted to be used in the 27MHz band. A government band used primarily by the forest department and military, this band had a secondary band that allowed amateur radio services which later became the popular CB. With the advent of Internet and mobile communication, CB has lost some of its appeal, but many people continue to use it to communicate and as a hobby. It is still widely used by truck drivers for truck-to-truck communication. It's also used by among hunters and farmers in remote areas where telephone landlines and cell phone towers are uncommon. People who go out in groups for camping, hiking or other outdoor activities also use this technology.

The first CB radios were of two types, A and B. Class B required less technical and less expensive equipment, but its range was smaller. As technology increased, another model, Class D, was developed using the 27 MHz band. Class D became the standard for CB radios, inexpensive and widely available. The category of 460MHz to 470 MHz band was later allocated to public safety and business purposes. The latest CB class is the general mobile radio service, which is used between friends for personal communication. This system utilizes the VHF band for two-way communication.

Uses of the CB radio

Radio activity depends on whether the transmission mode is AM or SSB. The AM mode allows communications up to a distance of approximately nine miles , depending on the quality of the antenna, interference level and terrain. SSB allows communications up to 18 miles. <bio>http://www.information-finers.com http://www.auto-tips-tools.com </bio>

Naturally, you're not going to be making phone calls on a two way radio. If you have the gift of gab and you think this article might suggest that a two way radio is the best way to gossip with your BFF, you seriously need to get out more.

For the rest of you, the question is, in a situation where one-to-one communication is critical, which is better: a two way radio or a cell phone?

To develop the answer, let's look at what constitutes such a situation.

Trips and Travels

The next time you take a long trip across your state or across the country, take notice of how many times your cell phone signal's availability fades or disappears completely. While many major cell phone service carriers are working to make coverage available everywhere someday, we are by no means there yet.

Now try caravaning across your state or across the country. What happens if one vehicle loses sight of the other or needs to take a break, or even has an emergency or vehicle problem? Call each other on your cell, right? Aha=97but what if there IS no cell signal at the time? What then?

This is one everyday situation where a two-way radio (which does not depend on a third-party tower to function) would be crucial. As long as each radio has fresh batteries and you're within a certain range, your two way radio will allow you one-to-one communication with the other party regardless of available cellular signal at any given time.

Family Amusement

Going to the beach or an amusement park, or other public event or location? What happens if you're in a building or area, again, where cellular signal is low or nonexistent?

No two-way radio set means communication between the parent and the kids is impossible, even if you both are carrying phones. This could be a serious issue if you lose sight of one another.

Throw a set of two way radios into the mix here and it's a completely different story! Again, a set of two radios will save the day in this scenario.

Camping and Hiking

For outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, hunting and the like, two way radio sets are great. In the wilderness, there is a good chance you will not have the luxury of perfect cellular coverage.

Why Cell Phones Are Better In Many Situations

The reasons cell phones are better than two way radios in a variety of situations, although apparent, are worth noting. First of all, two way radio sets only cover a certain range. In the aforementioned road trip caravan example above, this could quickly mean a loss of signal between the two parties.

Another instance where a cell would be better is if you have a young teenage child who is going to go down the street to the park or out for a bike ride and you want them to check in. Two way radios, again, are going to be limited due to distance.

So Which Is Better?

The truth is that cell phones and two way radios both have advantages which set them apart from each other. Neither is better, and both are important to have on hand for a variety of situations. <bio>Check out the Motorola XTNi Licence Free Handportable Radio at http://www.apexradio.co.uk/motorola-xtni-licence-free-handportable-radio-17= 0.htm </bio>

You have probably heard of the two satellite radio companies, Sirius Radio and XM Satellite Radio, but you may not know a lot about them such as how much each costs or what radio talent is available on each. Many people are tired of listening to regular AM and FM radio stations for several reasons. It may be that they are tired of being bombarded with commercials. It may be that they do not like the programming available to them. On the other hand, it may simply be that they are in a rural area and tired of losing their radio signal all the time. Regardless of the reason, many consumers are turning to satellite radio as a viable alternative to regular radio stations.

Both companies are able to offer you static free radio due to satellites. XM (based in Washington D.C.) has two and Sirius (based in New York) has three satellites across the United States. Both companies offer users commercial free radio. Sirius offers over 125 channels and XM offers 160 different channels. There are dedicated channels for genres of music such as jazz, folk, country and pop for diehard fans. One cool feature of satellite radio is you can see the name of the artist playing as well as the song title. So never again do you have to spend time wondering just who sang that song you just heard! There are also channels for local weather and traffic, sports, comedy, women's issues, talk shows, even old time radio shows. Soon, you may be able to see video as well as hear audio on your satellite radios.

There are also celebrity shows for both satellite radio companies. Martha Stewart recently signed a deal to launch a 24-hour radio channel on Sirius Satellite Radio. And most everyone has heard that Howard Stern is on Sirius as well - uncensored. Having gotten in trouble with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for his radio talk show, he decided to jump to the uncensored airways of satellite radio. Since his show started, the Sirius subscriber base has increased by at least 2.7 million. If have satellite radio and want to hear National Public Radio (NPR), you will have to subscribe to Sirius as they are the only one offering NPR. But XM is not to be left behind by Sirius. XM signed Snoop Doggy Dog, but the big coop is Oprah. In September of 2006, XM users will be able to tune in to Oprah andamp; Friends. The new channel will offer broadcasts of The Oprah Winfrey Show, O, the Oprah Magazine and programming on fitness, health and self improvement.

All this sounds great, but what do you actually need to be able to receive satellite radio? You will need either a Sirius or an XM radio. This does not necessarily have to be a radio only for use in your car either. There are also home radios available today and there are even radios you can use both at home and in your car. The price for a basic radio offered by both Sirius and XM is as low as $49.99. You will also need to subscribe to a service. Both Sirius and XM charge $12.95 a month for you to receive satellite signals on your radio. However, if you have several cars with satellite radios, you can save by choosing the family plan available from both companies.

Just how popular is satellite radio becoming? In March of 2005, Hyundai announced that it would be the first automaker to put satellite radios in all of its models sold in the United States. Each Hyundai, including the popular Sonata, Santa Fe, and Elantra models, will come equipped with an XM satellite radio. When this was announced, shares in XM's parent company rose by more than 8 percent. Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz also announced in March 2005 that Sirius radios would be a dealer-installed option on some of their models.

So which satellite radio should you choose? That depends on you. You should check out the stations available by visiting each company on the web before making a decision. Both offer radios at comparable prices, so it really comes down to what you want to hear. Are you a Stern fan? Then you have to go with Sirius. But if you love Oprah, you can only hear her on XM. Regardless of which one you choose, you will no doubt be very pleased with the services and reception of satellite radio. <bio>Matt Barstow offers valuable tips and information about satellite radio, players, and services.
CB radio offers a short-range communication system that can be used for business as well as hobby purposes. One need not have any technical qualifications to use it. CB radio service generally doesn't interfere with other radio signals. This is normally accomplished through frequency regulations adopted by the government. Considering the safety aspects, many governments have made it mandatory to have a license for operating a CB radio.

The signals sent into the air do not stop at the borders; therefore, every country should have the proper rules set up for planning and managing the radio signals so that one does not interfere with another. If this fails, the CB radio service is useless. Therefore, the installation and use of CB radios should by done with someone with a valid license, preferably one issued by a government agency. The agency manages the radio signal spectrum in such a manner that they are available to those who need them.

In the UK, the agency that regulates the use of CB radio is a subdivision of the department of trade and industry. They manage the CB radio spectrum of the UK both nationally and internationally. CB radios can be used only with a valid license or under the supervision of a license holder. OAP networks, Girls Guides and Scouts are exempted from having a license. The license is issued by the radio-licensing center in the UK. Other countries have other agencies that issue CB radio licenses.

As noted above, the user either should have a valid license to operate or be under the supervision of a license holder. Supervision by a licensee stipulates that both the licensee and the non-license holder should be in close proximity. However, genuine cases of group operations are exempt from direct supervision. Normally, the license is issued in the name of the CB radio license holder. Individuals under the age of 14 are not issued a license.

A license is still required for the reception of CB signals, even without transmission. Walkie-talkies are exempted from licensing, but they do need to conform to the agency directives on equipment. Taxi drivers should be licensed individually and the taxi company must comply with all the rules of CB radio service. Normally the license is valid for one year, after which it must be renewed for further use. If caught using the license for illegal activity, the agency may cancel the license. <bio>http://www.information-finers.com http://www.auto-tips-tools.com </bio>

I simply love my CD clock radio. For me the way you wake up in the morning is important, so why not do it the right way? Why torment yourself with some earsplitting and obnoxious beeping alarm clock? Since the time I got my CD clock radio I've been waking up in the most luxurious ways possible.

At times if I'm feeling especially sophisticated I'll set on some Bach or perhaps some Beethoven to wake up to on my CD clock radio. There's really nothing like starting the day off with some timeless classical music softly wafting into your ears and easing you from your slumber into a state of wakefulness. There have been times when I have dreams of hearing this music before I arise, and the rest of the day I feel composed and rested instead of irritated and rushed.

Obviously, I presume the main reason people prefer loud buzzers to wake up to, is to ensure they really awaken, but personally I have found that even gentle music from my CD clock radio almost always does the trick. Or if I'm worried about getting up by a certain time, I can set the CD clock radios buzzer alarm as well as the music. First the music plays, but then five minutes later I set the buzzer to go off just to make sure. Despite the fact that I never had to hear that buzzer, it's reassuring to know that its there.

Another nice feature about my CD clock radio is the alternative sounds it has to wake up to. Made by Timex, my CD clock radio has a selection of 'nature sounds' to play in place of a buzzer. Though it may not have a very extensive selection of sounds, but they are actually pretty nice. One of them is not really a nature sound, but is a series of gentle wind chime like tones that play in a very Zen like manner. Perhaps if I'm tired of waking up to classical - Bach, I can adopt a more Eastern style of starting the day and wake up feeling like a Buddhist monk instead! With regards to the sound quality on my CD clock radio is only fair, and is not really designed to replace or act as a CD player.

CD clock radios are just great alternatives to your standard clock radios, and enable you to slip in any kind of music you want to wake up to. And yes! You even have the option of waking up to the radio as their names imply, if you run out of CD ideas. <bio>Linda E.
As a child, one of the very best times at school is when a field trip is arranged so you can break free of the shackles of the classroom. However with children's safety at the forefront of every parents and educators minds, this article look at how modern technology can make school field trips as safe as possible.

School field trips are a great experience for children as it gives them the chance to see exciting places and take it sights and sounds that are not available from a text book or DVD. It is for this reason that school field trips provide our children with such a buzz of excitement. However, field trips can also be a logistical nightmare for teachers as controlling several children in unfamiliar surroundings can be a difficult and stressful experience.

So with childrens safety paramount, schools, nurseries and colleges alike can now take advantage of modern technology to make the school field trip is as safe and enjoyable as possible.

With the vast majority of people in the western world now being familiar with cell or mobile phone technology, staying in touch has never been easier. However, mobile or cell phones often suffer from a lack of coverage, short battery lives and they certainly incur ongoing costs which mean they are not a viable option for schools and teachers who want a portable communication method in which to stay in touch whilst away from school on field trips.

Schools can however now take advantage of modern Two Way Radios like the Kenwood TK3201 which allows teachers and teaching assistants to stay in touch both in the school itself and whilst away on trips and visits. With no rental charges, no call charges, long battery lives and a robust and reliable way to stay in touch, both at the school premises itself and on field trips, Two Way Radio is a must for any school with a focus on security, communication and safety.

Gone are the days where teachers have to struggle to communicate whilst away from school on field trips as Two Way Radios can now be used to communicate over wide areas and modern radios can also provide functions and features such as panic alarms (ideal for lone workers), license and call charge free and a highly robust and portable communications solution.

Two Way Radios such as the superb Kenwood TK3201 are ideal for schools, nurseries and colleges who organise field trips as they provide them with an affordable and mobile way to stay in touch. And with school safe two way providers like Apex Radio Systems Ltd offering great deals for schools, colleges and universities on school safe it has never been easier for schools to make modern technology work for them.

Two Way Radios give schools a reliable and economical way to stay in touch both in and away from the school and means their pupils and staff members well being is always secure.
My satellite radio is just about the best toys that I bought myself in a long time. No more spending the majority of my driving time switching between stations, with a satellite radio, I can choose exactly what I want, when I want it.

The units that receive the satellite signal in the home are rather limited but the ones for the car, well that's another story. Here are some tips for selecting satellite radio for your car.

Buying an after market radio that has a satellite receiver built in is the easiest way to add satellite radio to your car in my opinion. My husband went the route of adding a simple satellite receiver to his existing radio. The drawback was, not only did it take awhile to install it came out messy.

Aftermarket radios, can be purchased to bring in just the satellite signal, AM/FM radio stations, CD or it can come, as I selected, with all three built in.

When traveling on a trip, I found this was the most convenient as I could keep up with local happenings with my regular radio but when I wanted crystal clear tunes, I had my CD or Satellite radio to choose from.

One of the things that people mistakenly think about satellite radio is that all you have to buy is the monthly subscription to enjoy commercial free satellite radio. The fact is you do have to consider the cost of your subscription AND the cost of your satellite radio AND the cost of a professional installation. In most cases this amount can easily add up to a few hundred dollars.

By far the least expensive way to get started with satellite radio is to add one of those add on radios, like my husband bought. You can buy one for about $100 dollars and although the installation will take some time, it sis nothing that most people can't do themselves.

Some don't require installation at all, all you need is something called the FM modulator to be located near the FM radio in your car, IT will do the rest. This is a great solution if you just want to try satellite radio or if you change cars often.

So you can get started for as little as $100 dollars but for a mid to top of the line radio, expect to pay between $300 and $500 plus installation, and worth every penny! <bio>Holly Dodd writes for and publishes a number of consumer oriented websites like: http://www.My-Satellite-Radio-Review.info, she can also be found at http://www.blog.freeofferguide.com </bio>

Sirius Satellite Radio is certainly here to stay. When you have a Sirius satellite radio receiver you can listen to whatever you want wherever you go. There is a Sirius satellite receiver to meet the needs of everyone, whether you want one for your home, your office, your car, your boat, or your RV. There's a lot of buzz right now about satellite radio. With the introduction of XM and Sirius the new satellite radio broadcasts will give local broadcast radio a run for their money. If you've been thinking about buying an XM or Sirius Radio, now might be a good time to make that purchase as the cost of these radios is now at the lowest point ever. The top 2 contenders are Sirius and XM Radio.

Both providers offer high quality, digital programming with over 100 channels to listen to so you can never run out of something good on the radio. As mentioned above, cable started to address those issues, but it's been the advent of satellite technology that has really brought clear digital entertainment to the masses no matter where they live in the US. Satellite radio and TV both broadcast their signal in digital formats rather than analog.

Sirius charges more because they claim to use technology that improves the digital sound even more than XM and they also have given more attention to customer service to address issues that may arrive after the sale. Satellite radio broadcasts are made in digital format, so they are much higher quality than land-based radio. Satellite radio or is a digital and is able to receive signals from just about anywhere which of course has a broader range than normal radio.

With satellite radio you pay a certain subscription fee every month (around $15 or so) to get around 100 music channels broadcast by satellite. All programs are transmitted a satellite and then is beamed to the ground where the satellite radio picks up the signal. None of the channels are pre-recorded and all of them are LIVE stream videos from the fastest servers in their network.

There are several different kinds of music genres. For instance, rock has channels devoted to hard rock, early rock, soft rock, heavy metal, and many more. When using a satellite radio you can have your favorite music broadcasted right into your home or car, with crystal clear digital sound. Some system have a slight delay in the broadcast so if you enter a tunnel you do not loose the signal.

Satellite radios come in many forms including at-home devices and portable players much like Apple's ipod. People that have taken a liking to satellite radio are flocking to their local electronics store looking for a portable satellite radio. Like a full size or car satellite radio a portable satellite radio has all the required equipment to decode the encrypted signal broadcasted by a satellite.

Subscribers to satellite radio will be required to pay a monthly fee. It is subscription based, meaning that you pay a monthly fee for the service.

Subscribers usually have to pay a monthly fee of approximately $9. When purchasing a satellite radio there is usually a small monthly fee, but this will introduce you to a new world of commercial free radio. <bio>David Marc Fishman is the owner of http://www.priceriot.com Priceriot is a new online auction where prices drop as people shop. </bio>

If you're not familiar with HD Radio, it's the hot digital technology that's being pushed by radio broadcasters as the next big thing and the savior of terrestrial radio.

The Good

First, the good news. HD Radio does sound better than regular radio. In fact, HD AM sounds almost as good as FM radio, and FM sounds almost as bright, clear and interference free as if you were listening to a CD. And because HD is digital, broadcasters can squeeze more signals into the same frequency. This allows them to broadcast different programs on what they're calling HD2 channels. For example, an oldies station could program contemporary CandW on its normal frequency, and old-time CandW on its HD2 channel.

More good news is that fact that, depending on who you believe, there are now either 1,300 to1,500 stations in the U.S. that are broadcasting HD Radio.

The difference? It's that he HD Radio Alliance claims there are 1,500 HD stations, but the FCC has only 1,300 licenses on file.

The bad news

While HD Radio may sound great and while there at least 1,300 stations broadcasting HD Radio, you can't hear them. That is, not unless you purchase an HD radio. And HD radios tend to be expensive. There is only one, inexpensive, entry-level tabletop available, the Radiosophy HD100 at $99.95. The next step up is RadioShack's Accurian HD Radio, which usually sells for about $199 and a Sony unit at $199.95. Beyond that, there is the Sangean HDR-1 with a manufacturer's suggested retail of $249, and then it's pretty much into the stratosphere of $300-plus.

Want HD radio in your car? The situation there is even worse. There are very few HD car radios available and most of them are only tuners and must be connected to your existing factory radio =96 an ugly solution at best.

The ugliest part of th HD2 channels is that the programming =96at least so far =96 is hardly good enough or creative enough to warrant buying a HD radio.

What makes it ugly is that the broadcaster could be using HD2 channels to do something really exciting as broadcasters have in Great Britain, where digital radio has just skyrocketed. Unfortunately, here in the U.S., most broadcasters have chosen to use their HD2 channels as just "variations on a theme," or variations of their regular programming (see rock station example, above).

So, what's the future of HD Radio? At this point, it doesn't seem great, especially when you compare it to satellite and Internet radio. But as they used to say, "stay tuned for more" because it could get brighter. <bio>Douglas Hanna is the editor and publisher of the highly popular website, http://www.hd-radio-home.com, which he believes is the Internet's number one site for fair and balanced news about HD radio. He is a long-time radio listener and unabashed radio fan who has been following HD Radio for more than two years. </bio>

According to an industry research report released recently, more young adults are on cholesterol and blood pressure medications than ever before. The numbers of young adults on these medications is rising more rapidly than with senior citizens. According to the president of the American Heart Association, Dr. Daniel W. Jones, this is good news. He says that more people should be on these medications which lower the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Dr. Robert Epstein, chief medical officer at Franklin Lakes, NJ-based Medco, says that this could be indicative of the obesity epidemic that is currently taking place in the United States. However, the earlier these medications are started, the better for the patient experiencing difficulties in these areas.

In the spirit of this interest in prevention and healthcare, it would not be a bad idea to promote it further. There are many products that can be personalized and used to promote a business or organization as well as good health and exercise.

A pedometer is a good start for such a promotion. It will inspire people to take more steps during the day. If you are looking to motivate employees, make it a competition. Whoever takes the most steps in a certain length of days wins a special prize. It would be a great way to promote good health and inspire employees to take a step toward better health. Perhaps less people would be taking the elevator and more people would be prone to taking the stairs.

Your clients and customers would appreciate these products as well. They could be looking for something to help them start exercising more or they just need some inspiration.

Another product that might serve as an inspiration is a sport or nalgene bottle. This could help people to drink less soda and more water or juice. Sport bottles and Nalgenes are incredibly convenient to carry and range in size from 14 ounces to 36 ounces. This may also cut down on the amount of garbage that your business or organization deals with.

If you know of customers, clients or employees that are already into fitness, you could purchase exercise and yoga mats. These mats are easy to carry and come in a variety of colors.

A personal radio is also a great idea for promoting good health. There are few better companions out there than music. Personal radios come in a slew of colors and styles. There are radios available that clip on and some even have fans attached. If the recipient of the gift gets a little overheated during their workout, they can cool down with their new running partner. All radios can also be imprinted with a personal message. Perhaps you wish to combine the pedometer and the radio idea. No problem, Absorbent, Ink. has a pedometer radio available as well.

Despite some rumors, Americans are working to create a healthier life. With this new interest, your business or organization should get in on the act. Not only will you be promoting your company, you will be helping people to live happier, healthier lives. <bio>Elizabeth Chesney is a senior majoring in English at the University of Kansas.
Walkie-Talkie

Possession of walkie-talkie makes you experience the adventure of being a walkie-talkie man acting in Hollywood movie. Walkie-talkies facilitate you to communicate with other people without any restriction of place. You can keep in contact with other people even when you are at home, office or experiencing the adventure of hiking, mountaineering etc.

A good quality walkie-talkie has following features.

• Range about 3 miles • Stop watch • CTCSS and VOX • 8 to 10 channels • Channel scanner • Auto power off facility • Earpieces • Different call tones • Charging cradle • Some warlike-talkies even have baby monitor

Warlike-talkie handsets are normally available in black and silver shades. Most of the present day walkie-talkies have LCD display. Walkie-talkies with earpieces are preferred more as they offer you freedom of moving around without carrying the handsets.

How does Walkie-Talkie function?

You must be eager to know how does walkie-talkie works? Warlike-talkies function by sending signal (radio waves) to or receiving signal (radio waves) from another walkie-talkie. Frequency is the main factor in the use of walkie-talkie. When the tuned frequency matches people using walkie-talkie can communicate with each other. The communications signals received by the walkie-talkie are converted into radio waves and these radio waves reach the receiver. Once the radio waves reach the receiver, they are again converted into communication signals.

Walkie-talkie provides you the communication faculty without any cost within the coverage area. Some walkie-talkies offer you facility of communicating with more than one person at time. Many walkie-talkie service providers have their own cellular network and also0 share network with other service providers.
