Do you currently have the career of your dreams? If so, congratulations on all your hard work, because I'm quite sure that your success and accomplishment didn't happen over night. If you do not have the career you have always dreamed of, do not worry, you can get there. Career development isn't easy, but it is definitely worth it.

Career development can mean a lot of things. Here, for my purposes, I simply mean doing the things you have to do to get the career you really want. The first step in the process of career development is to figure out - really figure out - the career you want to have. This may be harder than it seems. You really need to know yourself, know what you're good at, and know what excites you. Not many people last long in a career that they hate. Career development begins with taking a close look at yourself. See a career counselor for even more help or to take tests that will help you to determine your personality and jobs that will fit it well.

Once you have determined a career or two that seems like it will fit you and your dreams, continue with your career development by discovering what needs to happen for you to be qualified for the career you want. Career development does not happen in an instant or even in a year, it may take years of hard work to get to where you want to be. It is important to be realistic about your goals and about the process. Does more education need to take place for your career development? Or perhaps you just need some special training courses in your field but you do not need another degree? Find these things out and then begin pursuing it.

Career development is important because I am convinced that it is important that people spend their lives on things they care about and feel like they can do well at. There is nothing worse than spending years of your life in an unsatisfying career. Fortunately, you do not have to let that be the story of your life. Take proactive steps that put you in control of your career development.

I guess what I'm simply trying to say is this: life is hard. Work is hard. Work is much easier and life is much better when it is doing a career that you love. Believe that it is possible for you to have a career that you love and then commit to whatever career development is necessary for you. It will be worth it for years to come. <bio>It took Martin Stoleman a few years to make it through the necessary career development for his now career as an author. Many local community colleges and some local high schools offer adult education courses and continuing education to guide individuals who want further career opportunities through career training.

Job placement after career training can offer individuals a better incentive for furthering their careers. Career training through education is one way to ensure candidates for jobs are well qualified for the positions they wish to secure. Often, career training programs offer degrees through continuing education as well as certificate programs.

The computer programming field as well as the medical field offers ongoing career training for individuals to pursue as they are working in their field of choice. Higher salaries are often realized as well as better job security following a career training program. Community colleges and high schools which offer career training programs will often schedule classes in the evenings and on the weekends so the working adult can benefit by scheduling classes after work and on their days off.

Career training is one of the best things you can do for yourself if you are planning to remain in the career of your choice for your lifetime. It not only gives you a competitive edge in the workplace but it also enables you to gain a more secure job realizing better rates per hour. Also, with more job training, individuals are likely to become recognized as an authority in their career of choice making the idea of career training that much more attractive.

The internet offers the working public a better way to seek further career training too. If you want to further your education or find better advancement within your career, log online and see if you can find internet courses which will enable you to reach your goals of career training. You can conduct keyword searches online to find the best opportunities to teach you more about a particular trade or a particular career.

Many colleges and universities have what they are commonly referring to as distance education and you may be able to find distance education courses offered online from numerous universities throughout the country which may appeal to you more than your local opportunities. Distance education programs range in all facets of job skills and requirements which can help you advance your career. Some colleges and universities will offer more training in your chosen field than others. Your local community college advisors may be able to help you with this if you are already taking classes to further your career locally. However, for the most part, distance education courses offered online will be something you can pursue on your own.

The important thing to remember when you are seeking more career training possibilities is to research your possibilities. With the internet, there are countless possibilities for you and you'll find the job training you seek for on-the-job can be valuable to you as well. Talk to your employer, search the internet and get ready to advance your career through career training programs. <bio>Joyce Jackson is a career advancement consultant for professionals and has extensive information and resources posted on her website at http://careerenhanceonline.com </bio>

As you enter the job market, (for the first time or after not searching for a while) you might find that there are a lot of buzzwords thrown around, including the terms career and job. You might be looking for a career, but you aren't going to enter the career market! Decide if you are looking for a job or a career today, and how to get the position you want.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a job is a piece of work that you do because of your occupation. A job also describes paid employment. A career, according to the OED, is a "person's course or progress through life." This article defines job as the place where you are employed, and career as the field in which you work.

Even though you might have lost your job, you may still have a career. For instance, if you are an x-ray technician who has been laid off, chances are that you will be able to find new work in the field. Your job might change slightly: you might become a dental x-ray technician, or a veterinary x-ray technician rather than a hospital x-ray technician, but you will still remain an x-ray technician.

You can choose to change either your job or your career. For instance, you might still want to have your career as a computer technician, but you want to advance to a higher paying and more prestigious job. This would mean finding a new a job and quitting your current job. Conversely, you might feel that you want to change your career. Perhaps you no longer feel that you want to be a computer technician and instead you would like to become a journalist. Career-changes are more time-consuming that job-changes because they often require training. You will find yourself looking for experience in a field with which you don't have experience. Neither career-changes nor job-changes are impossible, and often they bring much happiness.

When you are looking for a new job, it is important to consider what this means for your career. Some people choose not to have a career. Rather than having an over-arching goal in life, or in the field in which they wish to specialize, they would rather simply move from job to job. They might wait tables for a few years, then work as a receptionist, then work in retail.

You can, however, choose to have a career. In order to have a career, you need to have a plan. What are your interests? What would you like to be paid? Once you have planned your goals, you might have to take certain steps to achieve them. It is all well and good to watch a few episodes of Law and Order and then decide that you want to be a high-paid lawyer, but the reality of the matter is that you will have to go to law school for years, which is an expensive and time-consuming proposition. Also, you might find that a real-life courtroom isn't as stimulating as a courtroom drama series. So if you have set a career goal, speak to people in that career. Volunteer or intern in that environment so that you know what to expect in your future life.

You can also create a career out of a job. Perhaps you work as an assistant in an office. If you want to become a sales representative, you might need to take some courses. You might need to put in a few years behind the front desk. Ask your supervisor what opportunities you have for advancement, and how you can achieve it. Another way to create a career out of a job is to work in retail and accept promotions that you get to management. Management is often more work and more hours, but the higher pay and possibility for promotion might appeal to you.

Some people choose to work a job while they are trying to create a career. Many students work summer jobs that are not related to their field. They might want the break from the same material, or they might not be able to find a job in their field until they have completed their degree. If you take a job, consider how it affects your career. Are you biding your time there until you can break into a separate market? If so, when and how will you make your move to your career? Many people work at a job while they search for a career; if you don't keep your ultimate goals in your mind, you might end up staying at the job you don't particularly care for for much longer than you had originally planned.

There are careers that are often begun later in life. Many careers in ministry are begun after retiring from a first career. A career in politics can similarly begin after having a career in a different field.

Career planning, like all planning, takes both short- and long-term thinking. Make your goals accordingly. Write down your goals so that you can refer back to them and see how you are progressing.

While you are looking for a job, always think about your career. You will be able to find your ideal job if you work diligently and are not afraid of a few rejections. So go find that perfect job, or simply find a job while you work on building the career of your dreams. <bio>If you are looking for a career or job, start with the perfect resume.
More so today than ever before people are interested in losing weight, and looking the best that they can. And a lot of these people know that they can never reach all of their goals on their own. For this reason they turn to a dietician that has a lot of experience in this field. Becoming a dietician may not be the easiest thing to do, but if you finally reach the end you will be glad that you put in all of the hard work. There are many things that you can do as a dietician, and when it comes down to it you can make a lot of money.

As a dietician you will be responsible for helping people to get their diet back on track. You will deal with a lot of people who are interested in losing weight, but at the same time you will also have the ability to consult with many other types as well. Basically, anybody who needs helps with their diet will come to you for advice.

You have two career choices if you are a dietician. First off, you can open your own practice and be the head of operations. For people who are interested in being in charge this is the best option. On the other side of things you may want to put your skills to good use for another institution. For instance, the majority of large hospitals have several dieticians on staff. You could work in this capacity and make a nice living.

The fact of the matter is that there is no dietician career that is better than the rest. You will need to look into what you are interested in, as well as what you feel most comfortable with. This will push you towards the career that will best suit your needs. And remember, you can always change your career path if you find out that you are not heading in the right direction. <bio>Francois is an expert on http://www.career-descriptions.co.uk.
Do you want to pursue a career as a pilot? If so, you are in for major excitement. Flying a plane can be one of the most exhilarating experiences in the world, and doing so day in and day out is a great career. But before you get too excited about becoming a pilot you need to be aware of all the careers that are available in this field. After all, the more that you know about pilot careers the better off you will be in the long run. The most obvious career choice for a pilot is to work for a commercial airline. These airlines employ hundred of pilots to fly from one end of the world to the next, everyday of the week. The only bad part about trying to break into this area of the industry is that jobs are scarce due to a lot of competition. But with that being said, this does not mean that you should shy away from looking into this area of interest. If you stick with things long enough you will eventually work your way up to being a pilot of a major airline company.

Another career path that you may want to look into is becoming a private pilot. There are many people who need pilots to fly them around the world based off of their busy schedule. You can even start your own chartering business if you have enough interest in this line of work. Although it may take some time and money to get started, you can make much more in the long run.

Overall, there are many careers that you can follow if you are interested in becoming a pilot. You may be up against a bit of competition, but when you think about it this is the same regardless of what type of career you are interested in. The key is to find out what careers are available, and then make a decision early on as to what path you want to follow. <bio>Francois offers information on career descriptions at his website http://www.career-descriptions.co.uk.
Do you plan your vacations? Do you plan your weekly activities? It would make perfect sense then, to create a plan for a successful career, right? The term "career planning" is foreign to most people, but it is a very important process by which we reach our goal of attaining the career we desire.

The definition of career is "a person's progress or general course of action through life or through a phase of life, as in some profession or undertaking" (striving for a goal). What is the definition of planning? Planning is "a scheme or method of acting, doing, proceeding, making, etc., developed in advance" or "a specific project or definite purpose" (such as preparing for the future). So, for our purposes, let's say that career planning is "A goal that you desire to achieve in a selected field or occupation with a well thought out plan to get you there".

Why is it important to decide on a career goal?

A career goal can:

Help you focus and make decisions on what it is you want to do for a living.

Function is a motivator and therefore helps you accomplish your goal.

Assist you in discovering hidden abilities or skills you might not have otherwise realized you possessed.

Keep you from wandering from job to job.

Once a specific job (such as a teacher) or area of expertise (such as business) has been chosen, steps need to be taken to reach that goal. A goal is "the result or achievement toward which effort is directed". We would like to see our efforts result in having the career of our dreams.

Now," why is career planning important?" We must consider that the world around us is constantly changing. In order to meet new challenges as time goes by, one aspect of career planning is to look to the future to see what additional training or knowledge is necessary to continue to excel in a specific field. Most people today are constantly learning throughout their careers.

Six steps are taken in the career planning process:

1. Self-Assessment - evaluate and judge your abilities 2. Career Exploration - researching different careers 3. Targeting - deciding on what goals to set 4. Career Preparation - workshops, seminars, internships 5. Marketing Yourself - a professional resume, dress, and attitude 6. Career Management - "rolling" with the trends in your particular field and realizing when our own needs or interests change

It is possible that these steps will be taken several times throughout a lifetime.

Something else to consider is to find a mentor in your field who is willing to assist you as you achieve your goals. They can be invaluable to you!

Goal setting is a learned skill and crucial to success in a career. Just as with any sport or hobby, "practice makes perfect". Those who are successful in achieving their life's dream (career) set both short-term and long-term goals. If it is helpful to you, write them down. The long-term goals will need to be re-evaluated from time to time as interests or circumstances vary.

Why is career planning an `art`? Because it is a skill that we obtain through study, practice and/or observation. Gather your information, set your goals and go after the career of your dreams! <bio>Jason West is the marketing manager for http://www.jobnut.co.uk, one of the fastest growing online Job Websites in the UK. </bio>

Engineering is a great career choice for many. With 1.4 million engineering jobs in the U.S. alone, it's no wonder this career field is a popular one. Let's take a look at a few reasons why engineering is such a hot and rewarding career.

Challenging Work

Engineers get to combine their creativity, mathematics and science background with technology in order to help solve everyday problems. They get to work on the design and development of new products, help with their production, monitoring, maintenance and testing.

In alphabetical order, the main engineering specializations are: aerospace, agricultural, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, electronics, environmental, health and safety, industrial, marine, materials, mechanical, mining and geological, nuclear and petroleum.

Career Tidbits

The following list includes some interesting information about this career field according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook:

- Engineers generally work 40 hours per week, but the workload may increase under tight deadlines. Daily engineering tasks often involve work outside the desk space including lab research, field work, exploration and construction sites, monitoring stations and more.

- Engineers need to continue their educations to keep on top of the latest research and technological changes. Some companies offer funding for this. Not staying on top of the changes can mean the difference between maintaining employment and being laid off.

- The Internet has opened the doors for telecommuters (who may often come aboard for less money via long-distance arrangements), but local engineers are still in demand. Engineers often work on-site teaming up with others and their support staff.

- In 2004, engineers with higher degrees (Master's and PhD's) earned more. And for specialty engineers, workers earned well into the 6-figure ranges.

- Rapid growth in the technology sector means companies must seek the means to stay ahead of competitors with product and technology development, testing, and monitoring. Therefore, engineers are in demand and will be for some time to come. <bio>So check into career opportunities in your area and see what rewards you can reap as an engineer!
Change is inevitable but that doesn't mean one cannot learn to make something worthwhile of the necessary changes that life presents us with. Careers are great; they keep you on a steady part. When you choose a career, it helps you narrow down your options and helps you build yourself better. But there comes a time in life when you just have to own up to yourself that things are not going right in your chosen career and you may have to consider changing your career path.

Here are the top 5 things to consider when thinking of changing your career path

Fulfillment

No matter how much you are earning in your chosen career, fulfillment must never be undervalued. You need fulfillment in your job to really enjoy the benefits that come with it. A lot of people have changed jobs and careers because of lack of fulfillment and are having the time of their lives today. When you are thinking of a career change, fulfillment must be top on your list of considerations.

Your career is what takes up a lot of your time. You invest in your education and basically guide your life by it. You can't afford not to enjoy it because not enjoying your career is simply not enjoying your life. So when changing your career path you must make sure that what you are opting for gives you more fulfillment than what you presently have.

Required Skills

What are the required skills in the career you are thinking of changing to? It is very important you know you know these. You need to know what you need to get to get what you want. Do you have to go back to school? Will your present skills or education be useful in the new career? You need to really take your time to know whether you will be able to acquire the skills easily or not.

Strengths and Weaknesses

When thinking of changing careers, you must take a critical look at yourself and consider your strengths and weaknesses. Choose a career that accommodates your strengths and weaknesses. One in which you can enjoy being yourself and make money doing it.

Money

While it is important to get fulfillment from your job and career, it is also important you review the financial implications of changing careers. You need to be realistic about your pending career change. Know how much you have to spend to get yourself ready for the change. Know how much money you will need to acquire the necessary skills and or education to enjoy the best of the new career.

Do you have the financial capability to change careers now? Will it be worth it financially, changing careers now? You really need to answer these questions to make the right decision.

Help

In making in a great decision in changing your career path, you may need help. Never hesitate to ask for it. There are specialists in the field, like career counselors, who can help you put everything in perspective and guide you in making the right decision. They also can help you in putting all the above factors to use. <bio>If you are looking for a career change, Trios offers career training and development to fit your lifestyle and help you fulfill your dreams for the future. http://www.trios.com/career/ </bio>

People struggle with career development issues no matter what industry they are in. Whether you are a doctor, a lawyer, a self employed business man, or some other type of business person, the pressure to succeed is great in any field. If you have been spinning your wheels for too long, then it might be time to take a step back and figure out what is holding you back. People like to throw out excuses as to why their career is taking so long to take off. These excuses don't accomplish anything, though. They are simply a way to take the pressure off of yourself. The real reason why your career hasn't taken off is because you have deep rooted issues in motivation or confidence.

People who don't go forward in their career are often bothered by problems with confidence. They are scared to move forward for fear that they might fail. After working a number of years at a job, people don't want to move on from that position. They get very complacent and they lose the desire to get better. They are scared that a career move might mean that they need to learn new skills or impress new people. This problem in motivation is something that will always hold back a person's career unless it can be fixed.

If you are one of those people who have problems with confidence within your career, then you should take notice and step up to do something about it. If you have gotten a little ways in your career, you probably have some qualifications that have helped you. You have reasons to be confident. It is your subconscious that is telling you lies about your ability. In order to move on and make a successful career, you have to take a shot at these problems at their root. You have to attack the subconscious.

Hypnosis is a great way to get into the subconscious and take away all of the negative thoughts. I've seen lots of patients over the past few years and many of them talk about how amazing hypnosis is when it comes to changing their thinking. If you can change the way that your brain works and the messages that it sends, then you will be able to move up in your career. I encourage you to find information on hypnosis and do your best to make a change in your life. <bio>For more on career development and your career development plan, please visit Richard MacKenzie's website http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/shop/career-development-mp3.htm and http://www.richardmackenzie.co.uk/career-development.htm </bio>

Are you searching for your dream career? Have you gone through many bad jobs, and are finally getting tired of it? Do you just want to find a career that you like? If you answered yes to any of these questions you are in the same boat as a lot of people. The bottom line is that finding a career that you like is not always the easiest thing to do. Some people go through many careers before they finally find the one that is right for them. At the same time, there are many others who find their dream career the first time out. Regardless of what situation you are in, you can find your dream career if you put your mind to it.

The first step to finding your dream career is determining what it is. After all, if you do not know what your dream career is, how can you ever find it? You can get information on many different careers by searching online or talking with a career counselor. The point is you need to know what is out there to find what you are interested in the most.

When you know what career you want to try out, you will then want to search far and wide for the best position. This can be done by going through the classifieds in your local newspaper and also using the internet job boards. The more jobs that you come across, the better chance you have of finding one that is your dream career. You should not make the mistake of only searching in one place or in one location. If you do this you will have a very difficult time pinpointing your dream career.

Overall, finding your dream career may take you many years. But one thing is for sure; if you put the time into searching for your dream career you will get it in the end. And all in all, this is the only thing that counts when everything is said and done. <bio>Francois Botha has written over 1000 articles on various career subjects. If you enjoy participating in a debate or have a knack for arguing your side of a situation, perhaps a career in law or public speaking would be ideal. If you are better at writing words than speaking them, you may want to consider a career in writing. If you love animals, a career as a veterinarian or animal trainer may be a good option for you. The bottom line is that, before you decide on a career, make sure that it is something that you are involved in for the love of the work and not strictly for the money.

The next step to choosing a career is to determine what goals you will need to achieve in order to find success in your career choice. Will you need to attend college? If so, how many years will it take to earn a degree in your chosen field? These are all important considerations when choosing a career. If you need to find a job to help pay for college, you may find that enrolling as a part-time student and taking classes on a per credit hour basis will make the process more affordable. It may take longer to receive your degree, but you will avoid having a large student loan to repay after graduation.

Another important consideration in your career choice is a look at how you envision your future. Do you plan to get married and have children? Do you already have a family? If the answer is yes, then you may want to choose a career that will allow you to spend time with your family while also enjoying the rewards of a stable job. For many, starting their own business and determining their own hours is the best way to balance a successful work and family life.

Whatever career choice you make, it will be one that requires a commitment and determination. When you set out to succeed in a career, you will have to overcome certain obstacles that may include starting at the bottom of your industry and working your way up to the top. It takes awhile, but a view from the top is definitely worth the climb. <bio>The author is a regular contributor to http://www.better-career.com where more information about career paths is available. </bio>

The ultimate goal of most individuals is to have a rewarding career. After years of grueling studies, you would naturally want to practice what you have learned in school. But a rewarding career can not be achieved overnight. It usually takes time and a lot of sacrifices before you eventually reach your career goals. The easiest way to accomplish this is thru career development.

Career development is very important if you plan on being successful. It usually involves a realistic plan that is detailed and organized. You can start making this plan by assessing your self. You should determine your interests, skills and strengths as well as limitations and weaknesses. After doing this, you can now consider which aspects of your past and present employment you find most interesting. All these can help you pinpoint exactly what path to take to further your career. You should also determine whether you are committed enough to relocate or work on different shifts.

After considering all these factors, you can now move on to another aspect of career development, which is exploration. When exploring possible career paths, you should keep in mind the different opportunities that come with different job titles. By having a clear idea of career ladders, you can find out whether or not the path fits your career plans.

Additional research is very important. You can find individuals who work in the field you are interested in and ask them specific questions about their jobs. You should make it clear to them that you are exploring options as part of your career development plans. When inquiring about their work, make sure that you only get objective assessment of their job in order for you to have a very clear picture.

For more information on career development, the internet is a good source. You can search for information like scope of duties, compensation, qualifications and required work experience. It would help you decide which career path would be more rewarding. Aside from the internet, there are also counseling centers that could provide you with expert advice and tips as well as additional information about the career you are interested in.

After doing all these, you are finally ready to decide the best career move for you. Of course, the most important factor you should consider when exploring career options is if it would make you happy and fulfilled in the long term. <bio>One excellent way to address the career development issues within your mind is to go through hypnosis. http://careerdevelopment.y54.com </bio>

For a great number of reasons, having a post-secondary education is vital to furthering your career-- no matter your field or profession. In today's business world, your options for career advancement can be limited --or sometimes eliminated-- by not having a post-secondary education. Many types of careers actually require post-secondary education as a prerequisite for entry to that particular field. Even in those occupations where post-secondary education is not a mandatory prerequisite, it is certainly viewed in a favourable light by employers.

When employers go through the process of screening job applicants, they look to find candidates who have the skills and knowledge to effectively perform the essential functions of the job that is available. However, employers also want to select candidates who are likely to have long-term success within the company, giving them reason to remain with the company for a long period of time. In other words, employers try to reduce the potential for turnover by hiring highly qualified candidates who not only have a genuine interest in the job for which they are applying, but also an ability to grow and expand to new and higher positions.

When you have completed a post-secondary education in your chosen field, you demonstrate to employers that (a) you have formal training that has prepared you with at least entry-level skills related to that occupation and (b) you are committed to pursuing a long-term career in that particular field. The fact that you started and completed a post-secondary education program gives employers confidence in both your qualifications and your commitment. Because of this, the completion of post-secondary education in the field is often the deciding factor in the hiring process.

Even if you were able to gain employment in the field of your choice without any post-secondary education, it is certainly in your best interest to pursue continuing education if your want to advance your career. By pursuing advanced education related to your career field, you will acquire skills that help you perform better in your job. Additionally, your actions will demonstrate to your employer your continued commitment to your chosen profession.

Having a post-secondary education can also benefit you financially. Without a post-secondary education, there are a number of jobs for which you will not even be eligible for consideration. For many positions, the starting salary differs depending on the level of education that you have completed. Many times, pay raises and promotions are also tied to completion of post-secondary education programs. Therefore, while you might be able to gain entry to a particular occupation without a post-secondary education, you can't move up --or make more money-- until you complete additional studies. <bio>Enter the exciting world of travel by training at triOS College!
Over the past few years the nursing industry has really taken off. There are many different reasons for this, and if you are interested in becoming a nurse you should definitely look into them.

The number one reason that nursing has become so popular is because of the high demand for them all over the world. Since so many hospitals and doctors are looking for nurses on a regular basis it is not difficult to find a job. Sure, you will be up against a lot of competition, but demand is out numbering supply at this point in time.

Another reason that a career as a nurse is a good choice is because of the benefits that are being offered. Not only can you make a lot of money as a nurse, but you will secure a benefits package that is not rivaled by many other careers. This includes everything from health insurance to tuition reimbursement. Of course this has a lot to do with the company that you work for, but all in all nurses of today are getting top notch benefits.

Finally, there is room for promotion within the nursing industry. You will more than likely start out at the bottom, but over time you should be able to move into more substantial roles which will of course increase the amount of money that you make.

Now can you see why a career as a nurse is such a good idea? Not only should you be able to find a job right out of school, but when you do you should have the ability to make a good living with plenty of benefits.

To get started as a nurse look into the schools in your area that offer these programs. You will more than likely be able to find more than one school that will give you the education you need to follow your career path in the nursing industry. If you decide to get into this field you will be glad that you did in the end. <bio>Francois offers information on career descriptions at his website http://www.career-descriptions.co.uk.
Career Enhancement

Choosing a career is a hard decision to make. The decision and choice you make will impact you for most of your life because it sets a course for you for decades.

How do you make such a choice?

First, realize that since you make that choice you can always make another one. In other words, you are not locked into a single career for life. You can change your mind and your direction at any time.

Whether you change your mind or stick with your original decision, you will want to advance and refresh your job and career often. It's called Career Enhancement and should be a part of any career plan and path.

Most professions require constant enhancement of skills called continuing education. Professional organizations typically advertise programs and allocate credits for enhancement courses.

If you are not in a professional organization set up your own career advancement program. It can be a simple class taken once a year or a complete program over several weeks. What ever your choice study your options and make judicious choices.

Then, do at least one class a year. If your employer does not pay for career enhancement programs, pay for them yourself and attend.

After completing a class, update your progress and resume regularly. Keep a log of your classes, instructors and where you attended them. The real value in this will unfold as you prepare for your annual review, ask for a raise or promotion or search for a new job.

It comes down to setting goals, planning a path to those goals and accomplishing them. Even if you are alone on your path you can grow in your career.

Finally, take action. Make the first step toward your career enhancement goals even if you feel uncertain. Action opens all kinds of unseen opportunities and clarifies issues once you get going forward. Set your sights high, aim for your goals and take action to move ahead towards successful career enhancement. <bio>Joyce Jackson is a consultant in the field of Career Enhancement and job fulfillment.
Choosing your major in college or university may seem like the decision of a lifetime. It certainly may be the most important decision to date in your lifetime and possibly you feel poorly equipped to make the decision.

You should take this decision seriously and give it some time to think on it. Your major will make a big impact not only on your course of study over the next few years, but it will prepare you for career selection and put you in a position to find a job that you may wind up sticking with for a long time or the rest of your working life.

Take an Aptitude Test

Ideally, your major should focus on a subject that you enjoy or for which have an aptitude. After all you are going to be studying this field and may possibly be in this line of work for a long time. Aptitude tests available in your career counseling center can really help point you in the right direction.

Study the Majors Available

Study your course schedule and talk to some of the professors in your chosen field of study. Talk about the skills that will be required and see if this is something that interests you. You may find that some fields of study require courses that you aren't certain about. That's okay. Don't be worried too much if it seems that some difficult classes might be required for your field of study. Be certain to ask about those classes and try to find out why they might be included. There are good reasons for including those classes even if they are just there to round out your education.

Check It Out Online

You have more resources available to you on the internet than any other generation before you. Make sure to spend some time checking blogs and discussion forums dedicated to your chosen industry or field of study. You may learn some interesting background information that you might not discover elsewhere.

While you're online, do some checking on growth patterns in your chosen industry. There's nothing worse that finding yourself locked into a career choice that is stagnant and not looking for new job candidates. This requires a little bit of a crystal ball type approach. But a little bit of digging can help uncover the trends. You might consider checking with some professional associations for your chosen industry. Sometimes these associations have just the crystal ball type of outlook that you are searching for.

Interview Professionals in your Chosen Career Path

You may also take some time to interview people who are already working in your chosen field. If possible, spend a day or at least a few hours, with someone already working in your chosen field. This can really shed some light on any potential career decisions. You will find that most career professionals will gladly take some time, if they are able, to help you in your search for the perfect career. Don't be shy. Ask around in your counseling center or people that you may know to see if anybody is available to help you in your quest. Who knows, if you choose a career based on your interview, this may help provide a job contact later down the road.

Consider an Internship

If you are commited to a major or a field of study, consider doing an internship in your chosen career. This can do more than any of the above steps to reveal how you may like the industry and the personality types that are attracted to that industry.

In Conclusion

If you discover that you might be barking up the wrong tree, don't hesitate to make an adjustment in your training. Every day people discover that they have trained for a career that they hate or don't enjoy. Life is too short to spend in a job that you don't like. Search for something that will bring you happiness for years to come. <bio>Gisela Harris is the owner of http://www.FoxUniversity.com a website dedicated to bringing great resources to those searching for the perfect college or university. </bio>
