Whether you are shopping for wines or looking for hand crafted Spanish items, you will find something that intrigues you when you take your holiday to Canary Islands. The shops always have something for everyone. The shopping is great, but the nightlife is another fantastic attraction on the island. If you want to see some Cuban dancers or listen to Latin music, you could visit Emporium. This is a cute little Habana Café. The music is mixed and the DJ makes sure everyone has a good time. This place always has something to listen to or watch.

Then there is the Sunset Beach restaurant and bar. This is a family run business and the people are so nice. They enjoy new visitors and welcome everyone with a warm smile and tasty drinks and food. They have a sun terrace where you can sit in the sun and enjoy the warm breeze. Charlies is another hopping place at night. They have live music and big crowds. If you want Irish music, you could visit Craic n' Ceol or if you want to see an English pub, you can goo to Dolphin Inn or Cutty Sark. If you want karaoke, you will enjoy The Jellyfish bar. They have dartboards and pool table as well.

The restaurants are just divine. The cuisine is superb. You will find Irish cuisine at Lenegher's, Italian at Sausalito and Spanish, Indian, Mexican and Italian at El Boulevard. If you are looking for a Scandinavian cuisine, you will find Viking Husel exceptional. Pizza is served at Portbello as well as Italian cuisine. The restaurants are always open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some of the hotels have restaurants that are just as nice to dine at anytime. You will have quite an array of delights to choose when you take your holiday to Canary Islands.

Sightseeing is interesting on the island. You could spend days just walking around to see all the different areas of the island. It is beautiful to look at the volcanoes and the craters. The weather is always sunny and warm, which makes for a nice walk and a picnic. You can see more things on the island when you walk. The beaches are great for night walks. The sunsets and sunrises also look incredible from the beaches. You can walk for miles and enjoy the scenery that surrounds you.

You can take horseback and camel rides around the area. The beaches are so nice for horseback riding. The camel rides are intriguing if you never had the experience before.
Melissa was very excited because that Tuesday afternoon she was going to the zoo. She is very fond of animals, especially birds.

She doesn't tire looking, talking and playing around her favorite bird in that zoo--the canary. Canary is a small finch or kind of tiny bird that is a native to the Canary Islands.

Canary birds have a yellow to greenish color and has long been bred by people and bird collectors around the globe as cage birds.

Back to Melissa, happiness with Canary birds must not be a thing for her because after an hour, a strong discomfort was beginning to ruin her mood. She started coughing and itching until she could no longer take it.

Later, the physician who attended to her concluded that she has, yes, you have guessed it right, Canary allergy.

What is Canary allergy?

Canary allergy is no different from your usual bird allergy. It is brought about by the retaliation or defensive reaction of your body's immune system to allergens from birds or Canaries that gets through the system through feather dust or dander and through droppings or fecal matter.

Because Canary birds are cage birds that could not freely fly, expect that its feathers are very much loaded with these irritating dusts that may cause allergic reactions.

Exposure to Canary birds' dusts and allergens will bring about bird allergy symptoms within minutes, hours, or at very rare occasions days, which make diagnosing harder unless the patient volunteers the information.

Symptoms of Canary allergy

Like bird allergy, Canary allergy is also characterized by simple allergic reactions or symptoms including postnasal drip, stuffy nose, hives, coughing, itchy eyes, sneezing, watery or teary eyes and sore throat.

Canary bird allergies may not be that fatal but the onset of its symptoms will surely cause a great discomfort to the patient. Failure to address or address severe attacks or symptoms can also lead to serious complications which can be fatal or deadly if untreated or unattended.

In very sensitive individuals, Canary allergy is also accompanied by fever and chills.

Treatment for Canary Allergy

Canary allergy is a chronic attack that can cease by its own even if you do not take in any medication. Most often, the simple treatment recommended to people exhibiting canary allergy symptoms is to make that person get farther or away from Canary birds around.

It is a practical treatment because constant and continuous exposure to the bird that causes the allergy will surely keep the onset of the allergic reaction.

Doctors also prescribe little doses of antihistamines (drugs that treat simple allergies), decongestants (drugs that unblocks breathing areas or treat swollen nasal areas) and corticosteroids ( anti-inflammatory drugs).

Avoiding Canary allergy

Hygiene of course, is the most basic and effective measure to counter potential Canary allergy attacks. Always wash your hands even if you are not eating. Clean the surroundings and make sure there are no Canary bird feathers or droppings around especially if you have those birds at home.

If you are allergic to Canary birds, just like if you have allergies to other substances, be sure to always keep your room well-ventilated by opening windows or turning on air conditioners to an optimal temperature.

If you have Canary birds at home and there is no way you will be disposing them, there are measures that could help you avoid the onset of Canary allergy. First, make sure the Canaries' cage is clean and tidy.

Do not overcrowd the cage because that will cause the Canaries to fight and play around often, spreading their feathers around.

Make sure that area in the house where the Canary birds' cage is placed is properly ventilated. Buy an air purification system to make sure the air you breathe around your house is free from any allergen that may trigger another Canary allergy attack. <bio>Charlene J. Nuble 2006.
It just makes me sick. I get sicker and sicker everyday. Know why?

I'm constantly getting emails--almost on a daily basis--from people wanting to know why their canary died so suddenly. "He was fine yesterday" they say. Or "He was acting just a little funny yesterday and today he's dead". It breaks my heart every time.

One of the most important things a canary owner needs to know is what a canary looks like when he's sick.

Likely these canary owners would have seen the illness a lot sooner had they KNOWN WHAT TO LOOK FOR. Then they might have been able to give the bird what he needed to pull through. Do you know what to look for? ARE YOU SURE?

If not, don't worry. It's easy to learn.

INVISABLE ILLNESSES

Your canary is a master at hiding his illness. After all, as far as he's concerned, if he looks weak and sickly, he also looks like easy prey.

Now, you know, and I know, that your canary, in his metal powder coated cage, is in no danger of being eaten by a slithery snake or a wily wild cat (unless, of course, you have a Sylvester in your home) but your canary doesn't know that. So, he hides his illness.

But anyone with a little knowledge can see it. You can see it.

And to make matters worse...

Your canary has a super fast metabolism. And that means that whenever he contracts an illness--of any kind--it will speed through him faster than last nights ice berg lettuce. (NOTE: Don't feed your canary ice berg lettuce. It can be very rough on his digestive system.)

With all this in mind, do you think it would be valuable to know what a sick canary looks like? Do you think it be wise to be able to read your birds body language so that you can give him fast treatment before things worsen?

I'll help you out here. The answer is a resounding YES! I urge you...

KNOW WHAT A SICK CANARY LOOKS LIKE.

There are 5 premiere canary symptoms that every canary owner should know by heart. Many more symptoms exist but these are the some of the MOST common.

The Premiere 5 Symptoms

1. Lack of energy

2. Fluffed up feathers

3. Sitting at bottom of the cage

4. Closed or partially closed eyes

5. Lack of appetite

Now that you know the 5 premiere symptoms let's quickly discuss each one.

1. Lack of energy.

This is the hands down, fastest way to KNOW if your canary is sick or healthy.

Canaries are high energy birds so when you see a lack of energy you know there is a problem.

2. Fluffed up feathers

This is your canary's attempt to stay warm. When your canary gets sick he will often feel chilled and naturally will want to retain as much body heat as possible.

3. Sitting at bottom of the cage

Sitting at the bottom of the cage and fluffed up feathers (above) often occur together. Basically, what's happening is, your canary is feeling ultra tired and super "feverish".

He doesn't even want to expend the energy it takes to sit on the perch.

How do you spend your day when you've got a high fever and chills? Wrapped up in a blanket on the couch or in bed? Well, sitting at the bottom of the cage with his feathers fluffed up is your canary's way of staying in bed.

When your canary reaches this point he may be in big trouble.

4. Closed or partially closed eyes

Again, a general sign of listlessness. But this could also mean a respiratory infection, an eye infection, or he might just have something in his eye like a piece of seed hull.

5. Lack of appetite

This is obvious. A sick bird may not eat as much or with some illnesses he may even eat MORE.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Remember, your canary doesn't want you to know when he's sick. And when he does get sick, he gets sick FAST.

These 5 symptoms are just the tip of the iceberg. There are many other important symptoms that every canary lover should know about.

Make a point to read and learn all the other important symptoms that your canary may exhibit. You can treat him or even save his life from deadly canary disease if you catch it early enough. <bio>Darren P.D.
It may surprise some of the most frequent tourists but the island of Fuerteventura is actually thought to be the oldest island in the Canaries. Below we take a closer look at Fuerteventura's colourful history and how you might discover it on your next trip to the island.

When you mention Fuerteventura, most people think of wonderfully sandy beaches and lots of glorious sunshine. You may be surprised to hear that there is actually a lot more to Fuerteventura. Not only is Fuerteventura the closest Canary Island to the African coast, allowing it to bask in almost year-round sunshine but it's also believed to be the oldest Canary island.

Historians have traced the first settlers on the island back to 200BC. There is a certain amount of mystery surrounding their exact origins but most historians agree that they were probably of African, possibly Egyptian descent. These first inhabitants were thought to use shoes made of goatskin. In fact, islanders today still refer to themselves as Mahorero or Maho which is thought to come from an ancient word which relates to this goatskin.

Excavation of caves on the island has revealed tools and pottery used in the everyday lives of these settlers. This evidence points to very primitive people who were pastoral and certainly had not yet discovered the wheel. This basic form of life continued to exist until around the beginning of the 15th Century when the Canaries were invaded by the Spanish. Despite an attempted island uprising, the Spanish were successful in the invasion of Fuerteventura and continues to be a Spanish island to this day.

Little really changed on this island over the centuries since the Spanish invasion until tourism hit about 20 years ago. Even now, Fuerteventura is not as developed as the other Canary Islands of Tenerife and Lanzarote and for those who do visit, it is this tranquillity which remains a large part of its charm and appeal. Fuerteventura provides holidaymakers with the chance to take in the wonderful scenery and explore the colourful history which is attached to it. <bio>Islands in the Sun provide a variety of Fuerteventura self-catering holidays.
Macaronesia is the name given to the groups of Islands which scatter across the centre of the Atlantic. One such group is the Canary Islands which boasts the greatest variety of flora. Throughout the Canaries there is a mixture of endemic and cultivated plants, tropical and sub-tropical.

The largest of the Canary Islands is Tenerife, which although by most standards a small island it does carry a rich diversity of plant life. One of the reasons for this diversity is the climate. Tenerife's climate is remarkably varied for such a small island, apparently caused by the winds being affected by the rugged contours of the land. There are reported to be some 140 plant species thriving on the Island thanks to the climate and variety of volcanic soils.

For anyone interested in wildlife or flora there is are many treats awaiting them on Tenerife. Although the south of the island is quite dry and barren the rest of Tenerife has a wide variety of plant life to marvel at.

The unusual Red Tajinaste, which flowers in late spring and the Las Canadas are among the most spectacular examples. The flowering Teide wall flower or Codesco spread a fantastic yellow carpet during the spring, creating a sight to remember and enjoy.

Tenerife is also well known for the Drago tree, which is one of the oldest living members of the plant kingdom. 20 million years ago it was prevalent throughout the Mediterranean but the coming of the Ice Age meant that they remained only in Madeira, the Canary Islands and the Cape Verde Islands. Today they are only naturally grown in Tenerife and the neighbouring island of La Palma.

Tenerife's ancient settlers, the Guanches, revered the tree and performed sacred ceremonies with it. What was particularly interesting to them was that the colourless sap turned crimson upon contact with air and light. It became known as dragon's blood. The trees were looked after and have achieved a great age but it is difficult to be accurate because the bark does not create normal annual circles. Nevertheless, the most famous Drago tree, the Millenium Drago at Icod de los Vinos on the northern coast, is at least 650 years old and possibly over 1000 years. It is 17 metres high with a girth of 6 metres. They can be seen in most towns and villages in the north of the island. As well as the Millenium Drago, it is worth seeking out the Drago de la Ramble, magnificent against the blue ocean, and the Drago in the Sitio Litre gardens in Puerto de la Cruz.

Endemic species of wild birds also have appeal. With its dark blue feathers and elegant appearance, the Blue Chaffinch is one of the most beautiful and distinct, and is found in the pine forests. They may have originated from the nearby African continent and then evolved during their isolation on Tenerife. <bio>Take time to enjoy the fantastic flora and fauna of Tenerife. Too often people only see the beaches and nightlife, yet the natural world has so much to offer when http://www.tenerifeactivityholidays.com </bio>

A detailed map of Spain will come in handy when it's time to plan your vacation. You can get a quick overview of the geography and topography, and help you orient yourself to the important cities and landmarks within the country. You can also get a feel for where Spain lies in relation to the rest of Europe and the world.

Where in the World?

Spain is at the southwest part of Europe. In comparison, Spain is just over two times the size of the state of Oregon in the US. Besides the mainland, Spain also includes several islands off the coast of Morocco. The islands are the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Penon de Alhucemas, Islas Chafarinas and Penon de Velez de la Gomera. Understanding the physical layout and area of Spain goes a long way toward understanding the Spanish culture.

Though Spain borders several countries (France, Gibraltar, Portugal and Morocco), it still has a considerable amount of coastline (nearly 5000 km). Beaches are a significant draw for vacationers. Another reason it's so popular is because of the mild climate. Spain enjoys good weather nearly year-round. The most temperate area is along the coastline, with the more extreme temperature changes occurring inland.

At its lowest point, Spain is at sea level. The country's highest point is a peak in the Canary Islands. The Pico de Teide reaches 3718 m.

Important Cities in Spain

The Strait of Gibraltar lies at the southern tip of Spain. This is the route from the Mediterranean Sea to the North Atlantic Ocean. This is a popular passing area for merchants and trade.

The Alicante region, located in the southeast region of Spain, is a popular tourist attraction for visitors from Europe. It offers a wide variety of activities, from historical ruins to modern conveniences.

Madrid, Spain's capital, is near the center of Spain, near the Tagus River, which flows to the North Atlantic Ocean via Portugal. Seville is in the southwestern part of Spain. It's famous for it's tributes to Spanish culture through art and culture. It's also an important financial center in Spain. Barcelona and Cartagena are also popular tourist spots.

The cities of Gijon and Santander are located near the Bay of Biscay, on the northern coast of Spain. Other northern coastal cities include A Coruna and Vigo. As Spain is nearly completely surrounded by water, it's no surprise that fishing and salt harvesting are big business here. <bio>Peter J. Wilson usually writes detailed papers on information much like Spain and spanish culture. Through his reports such as http://www.alicante-spain.com/spain.html ,he confirmed his capability on things associated to detailed map of Spain. </bio>

There are lots of travel website owners who write travel articles for article marketing, many of whom I believe do not give themselves the best shot at successful results. In this article I will explain why from my observations that I think some travel writers let themselves down and how I believe they can improve their results.

The Nitty Gritty

First of all article marketers submit articles to article directories as part of their website promotions -- that and much of what I'm saying here applies for any niche. Ideally article marketers are working towards the following:

Long term backlinks pointing to their sites
Viral effect of articles being re-published on authority sites and ezines
Click throughs on those links
Establish themselves as an authority in their niche
Credibility in the eyes of readers

The first 3 are about getting more traffic to your sites, the last 3 are about benefiting from the traffic. Article marketers will not benefit from their work if they produce:

Poorly written articles
Show a lack of first hand knowledge
Ruin their credibility by misleading and disappointing readers

It's all common sense but not every writer gets it. In order to explain more I will use some potential scenarios.

Information Searches

Jess and Mick have booked a cheap flight on the Internet to the Canary Islands. As they need accommodation it's only natural that they do a search for the type of accommodation that they want. They use 'Canary Island holiday property rentals' in their first search and are pleased to see an article titled 'Canary Island Holiday Property Rentals' at the top of the search results.

Disappointment hits them when they find that the article is about the Canary Islands in general and has nothing to do with holiday property rentals except for a link in the resource box. The author has lost credibility because their title is misleading and the only links that are likely to be clicked on are the Google ads that you generally find on the article directory pages or more likely Jess and Mick click away and continue their search.

They finally find the information that they really want and accommodations sorted out they now want information about hiring a car. Their search is Canary Islands car hire, the top link is an article titled 'Canary Islands Car Hire'. Imagine how annoyed Jess and Mick feel to find yet another general article about the Canary Islands and the only thing concerning car hire is a link in the author bio -- goodbye credibility, article and click throughs!

Publisher Searches

Mathew is building a website about the Caribbean. He has some of his own material but decides to visit an article directory and find some content to help build his site faster. He finds a really great article about visiting Jamaica and would love to use it but the title 'Cheap Flights To The Caribbean' is a problem. Yes you've guessed right -- the only reference to cheap flights is in the author bio. Mathew decides against using the article on his website because he has ethics and does not want to mislead his site visitors.

He then spots an article titled 'Fabulous Jamaica Resort Review'. Mathew expects a genuine review from somebody who has visited the resort, but he doesn't get that. Instead there is a brochure like article extolling the virtues of a hotel or all inclusive resort that just happens to be linked to in the author bio - and an article that shows no indication of the author ever setting foot on the beautiful island of Jamaica. There is also a sentence recommending a website for more information within the article body and that website just happens to belong to the author -- goodbye credibility.

Reality Check

With these scenarios the authors have thought that they were being clever and used the best keywords and phrases in the titles for what they are promoting in the author bio. Fair enough if the article content matches the titles and key phrases -- shooting yourself in the foot article marketing if it doesn't.

If you promise a review of a resort you should deliver just that and not something that can be found on any travel brochure or travel site. A review should be an author's opinion written from experience and nothing less. Recommending your own websites in the article body not only spoils an article but is also a credibility hit.

If your misleading article is accepted on article directories do you want to benefit from the viral effect of your article being published on other websites and ezines? Would you want content on your website or ezine that is misleading or pure unpaid for advertising? I know that I wouldn't. I really enjoy reading good travel articles and reviews, but often find them disappointing for the reasons that I've outlined.

Any good and ethical sales person, and that includes Internet marketers know that to do well you need to build up trust with your prospective customers. You want your articles to work for you so start thinking about them from the point of view of a reader or publisher and you won't go far wrong.

The travel niche is huge and nowadays many travellers search the Internet for information before they book their dream holidays. The majority of travellers know nothing about Internet marketing, article marketing or key phrases. All they know is what they see -- that they are being misled. Would you click on a link and buy from an author or seller who is misleading you?<bio>The author Patricia Jones writes for the UK travel guide and Make Money From Writing where you will find lots of tips to help you with your writing and free writers tools.
A good, detailed map of Spain is one that gives you a quick visual image that creates a picture and orientates you to exactly where Spain lies. Also, maps can provide a lot more information if you study their legends and understand how the area you are viewing relates to the rest of the region and its place in the world.

Where on the Globe is Spain?

Spain is located at 40 degrees north and 4 degrees west. It is a part of Europe and makes up the south western part of the continent. To compare it to the United States, Spain would measure only a little more than two times the size of Oregon. It's total area is 504,782 square kilometres, with that being broken down as 499,542 sq km of land and 5,240 sq km of water.

Spain includes a couple of island chains and two autonomous cities: Melilla and Ceuta. The islands are the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Penon de Alhucemas, Islas Chafarinas, and Penon de Velez de la Gomera which are located off the coast of Morocco.

Spain borders on France, Gibraltar, Portugal, and two of Morocco's communities in different areas. Even with all of these land connections, Spain has almost 5,000 km of coastline and the beaches are a big part of the country's tourist trade.

Also adding to the tourist attractiveness of Spain is the temperate climate. The coast is most moderate, as the interior regions can get more extreme cold and hot temperatures in the summer and winter.

Spain sits right at sea level in its lowest spot along the Atlantic Ocean. The highest point is located in Tenerife at the Pico de Teide. This peak sits atop the Canary Islands and reaches 3,718 meters.

Key Cities and Regions of Spain

At the southern tip of Spain is the Straight of Gibraltar. This is an important passage from the Mediterranean Sea into the North Atlantic Ocean. The city of Algeciras sits watch over the merchant and tourist trades that pass through.

Along the Mediterranean coast is the Alicante region. This is a popular tourist location for all of Europe, Spain and International visitors from other parts of the world.

Madrid sits in the centre of Spain and is the country's capital. It is located near the Tagus river which then accesses the North Atlantic Ocean by way of Portugal. Seville sits in the south western part of Spain and is known for its art and culture as well as being a financial centre.

Other major and important cities in Spain are Barcelona and Cartagena both on the Balearic and Mediterranean Seas respectively.

Up in the Bay of Biscay along the coast lie the cities of Gijon and Santander. Also part of the northern coastal cities are A Coruna and Vigo. It is easy to see why Spain is heavily involved in sea life either through fishing, salt harvesting or trade. However, even strategic location has not helped Spain with its relatively high unemployment rate.

Spain still has a strong and dynamic economy. This mostly evolved after the death of its dictator, Francisco Franco who died in 1975. Once Franco was not in power, Spain quickly became a democracy and saw a dramatic modernization of its economy.

Spain is an advocate of world freedom, remaining neutral in World Wars I and II, but fighting today for liberty and ending terrorism.

Spain may not be one of the most visited of European countries by Americans unless you count the Canary Islands. It is a mistake to rule out this beautiful country because of a lack of understanding. The Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca are among the most perfect vacation spots in all of Europe, any time of year. <bio>Concentrating on latest news in Spain, Ken J. Morris is publishing first and foremost for http://www.alicante-spain.com . Writing for publications like http://www.alicante-spain.com/spain.html ,the columnist established his experience on areas related to detailed map of Spain. </bio>

Have you discovered Tenerife yet? Many UK holidaymakers describe Tenerife as their dream holiday island. So, what is it about this island which makes it so popular with the UK holidaymakers?

The island of Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, and probably the most popular with visitors. In fact, studies suggest that over the last one hundred years holidaymakers have risen from one hundred a year to a staggering 11 million. For an island of only 778,000 inhabitants, this is an impressive level of tourism and suggests that Tenerife really does have quite a lot to write home about!

So why do so many people come here? Unsurprisingly it would seem that the British come for the sun. A quick peak at the average temperature in summer and in winter, which generally only varies by about 10 degrees, will confirm that Tenerife is the perfect destination for those fed up with the British weather. Even in the height of summer, Tenerife usually has a prevailing westerly wind which helps to keep it at a moderate temperature.

Although Tenerife is probably best-known for its southern beaches and golf resorts, the island is actually one of stark contrasts -- from golden sands to black volcanic beaches; from mountain peaks to green valleys. It is this dramatic scenery which not only draws in those wanting to enjoy the sunny beaches but also appeals to those wanting a more active, walking or nature-based holiday.

However, it is definitely possible to discover the "real Tenerife" without having to set off hiking. The island is surprisingly car-friendly and car hire couldn't be easier than in Tenerife. It's all there for you when you step off the plane.
Choosing which of the Canary Islands to visit is a real dilemma for the winter break tourist. All of the main seven islands, that are located just off the north African coastline, share similar climates, but the major differences lie in the way each of these islands has grown up and the level of urban development progression in each. Some of the resorts on these islands have their roots back in the 1950's and so exhibit some dated and, for some, unattractive architecture while the resorts that have only recently gained popularity boast modern developments that are more pleasing on the eye.

For the winter traveller who is looking for more than just a beach holiday (and the islands can certainly provide that) there are a host of other attractions from 15th century Spanish settlements, a number of spectacular national parks and a wide choice of art and culture to satisfy a range of tastes. On Lanzarote its most famous resident, artist Cesar Manrique, has left his impression all over the island with his distinctive style of sculpture, architecture and painting. The artist was sadly killed in a car accident on the island of Lanzarote in 1992 but has left his mark following his enthusiastic pursuit of sympathetic planning regulations resulting in a lack of high rise development on the island. His work reflects an acceptable form of modern functional design and includes the spectacular viewpoint at Mirador del Rio and the amazing Jameos del Agua, a cave system transformed by Manrique into an auditorium and breathtaking swimming pool and gardens. The excellent acoustic properties of the auditorium see it hosting several events including shows, concerts and regular discos.

Falling under the same administration as Lanzarote, Gran Canaria is one of the larger islands in the group and accordingly has a more established urban buzz and city feel. That's not to say it is not attractive as a resort for many visitors. A cheap flight to Gran Canaria in the off-peak season should be affordable enough to make it a suitable destination for a weekend city break. It has a varied selection of all the elements of city life including culture, restaurants, bars and clubs. The city also has a very important marina development given its location and it plays host to frequent regattas.

Gran Canaria has developed in popularity largely because of its amazingly mild climate. The temperature barely leaves the 20-30 degrees centigrade range making it pleasantly warm but never too hot. The trade winds bring pleasant breezes to create a comfortable environment for sightseers and sportspeople alike. In fact the sport of windsurfing has seen Gran Canaria establish itself as one of the world's most favoured destinations for top surfers. There a re plenty of sheltered location for newcomers to the sport but the more experienced are likely to head for Pozo Isquierdo where powerful winds provide all the thrills and challenges the best in the sport demand.

For British holidaymakers, the island of Tenerife has been a favourite ever since the 1950's. It's the largest of the Canaries and has seen its fair share of development which is still ongoing. The resorts being built now offer some of the highest quality amenities you will find anywhere in the island group. There are waterparks and golf courses, diving and sail bases. The island is now also home to many Brits who have chosen to live there permanently. Again the climate and abundance of frequent flights to several UK airports make it an easy choice compared to other ex-pat destinations like southern Spain which don't boast the same constant mild weather.

For the traveller who favours more a natural attraction rather then the bustle of establish tourist traps, the less well-known island of La Gomera provides an refreshing alternative as it is home to one of the best preserved laurisilva forests or humid sub-tropical laurel forests. The evergreen hardwood trees grow to height of up to 40m and harbor a wealth of endemic plant and animal species. Many forests of this type in the world have been devastated by logging activities so La Gomera provides one of the most accessible locations to experience these rare natural features.

So a flight to the Canaries can be a gateway to a mild winter break, a trip to visit friends and relatives or the start to a trip full of exciting natural and cultural experiences.<bio>The Canary Islands offer many choices and articles by Dan Williams cover everything including flights to Lanzarote and flights to Tenerife to help holidaymakers find economic travel arrangements.</bio>

Gran Canaria is an Island of discovery through its history of being the crossroads of many cultures and its consistently mild climate. Its location at the southern extremes of the European continent makes it a popular location for holiday visitors who use the myriad of available flights from the colder countries of Europe to enjoy warmer temperatures, particularly during the winter months.

The legacy of the Island warmly welcoming travellers throughout the ages has left it with a wealth of archaeological sites, a mix of architecture and many artistic and cultural traits for the modern traveller to enjoy and which give the Island a variety that is a pleasure to discover in a relatively small area. This history is reflected in the many activities that can be found on the Island today which includes International film and music festivals, exhibitions and museums. The Canary Islands Music Festival held at the beginning of each year is world renowned and particularly special in that it due to the Islands' climate it is able to be held in the European winter.

The Islands' museums range from the painted caves at the Cueva Pintada archaeological site to the Elder technology and science museum and the Abraham Cardenas sculpture exhibition. You can also find houses that were homes of the Islands more famous residents that have been restored and can be visited. Gran Canaria has been officially declared a World Biosphere reserve due its' natural richness and great diversity of environments.

The Islands climate reflects the diversity in the culture. From the hot south of the Island and its majestic beaches whose 60kms of sand make up over 25% of the Islands' coastline and where the skies are clear for most of the year. A short trip into the middle of the Island will find sub tropical valleys and forest and you can even find snow on the tops of the mountains at certain times of the year. However wherever you are on the Island you will have sunny skies and warm temperatures the year round. For those seeking more than just a quiet break the resort of Puerto Rico is easily the most lively with a wide selection of clubs, bars and restaurants to satisfy most tastes.

For sports lovers Gran Canaria is an ideal location. The absence of any extreme temperature variations makes this a favourite destination for top sportsmen and women to train for major events. The sports that typically benefit from the Island's facilities include athletics, cycling and triathlon. Not only Europeans but athletes from the USA also prefer the stable climate during the winter. Gran Canaria welcomes these visitors and provides the infrastructure to make this the ideal destination for the clubman through to the Olympic hopefuls. There is a strong tradition of golf on the Island with a number of courses plus the weather and facilities to play 365 days per year. Gran Canaria also has a number of its own sports that you won't see at any Olympic games; they include stone lifting, stick fighting, plough pulling and Shepherds leaping!

With sea temperatures ranging from a mild 18deg through to 22deg then it is no surprise that watersports feature highly in Gran Canaria. The Island boasts many champions from various disciplines developing their skills in the local waters including the 13 times world windsurfing champion. As well as windsurfing, sailing, both yacht and dinghy sailing and kitesurfing are also popular.

Evidence that Gran Canaria is still welcoming the traveller today is that there are over 25 tourist offices located around the Island to help you enjoy your break. Companies such as Thomas Cook, Thomson and Their multilingual staff has extensive information on accommodation, sights, activities travel etc and are always there to help you.<bio>Discovering Gran Canaria and any of the other Canary Islands is made easier and cheaper by reading Dan Williams' reviews of cheap flights to Gran Canaria and flights to Las Palmas to help you save money and visit this beautiful island.</bio>

They come in many shapes, sizes and geographical varieties and the people that visit them are as varied as the islands themselves. Whilst you can move between the islands, most people choose to stay on just one for the duration of their holiday. The islands are traditionally divided into seven groups: Cyclades, Aegean, Dodecanese, Sporades, Ionian, Argosaronic Gulf and Crete which, as a single island, is the largest in the group.

Where can I stay?

Try a Greek Island holiday with a difference by choosing a boutique hotel. You can't beat the individuality of these small, intimate hotels where detail is a primary consideration and the needs of the guest always come first. Try Elounda Gulf Villas and Suites on Crete, Katikies on Santorini and Ostraco Suites on Mykonos. These are all unique places to stay, offering the ultimate in quiet understated luxury.

What can I see?

For most people, the attraction of the Greek Islands is the beaches. The quality and size of the beaches varies from island to island, as does the level of development in the main resorts. The sheer number of islands means that you can usually find exactly what you're looking for; whether it's 24-hour entertainment or a quiet relaxing break. For those that want to explore the islands' culture, there are plenty of historical buildings, traditional villages and museums to visit.

How do I get around?

You can get to some of the islands such as Mykonos and Santorini by air, but most of the other islands are reached by ferry from Athens. The ferries are regular and there are ticket operators at the harbours, so you can also use them to visit other islands during your stay. To get around an island, you can hire a car or a bike, or use the local bus system. There are no train services once you're off the mainland. If you're feeling especially adventurous, hire a sailing boat and navigate your own way around the islands. <bio>Chic Retreats is a collection of cool, smart hotels with less than 30 rooms and an eye for detail and design.
Kitchen islands are becoming increasingly popular amongst those with available space in the kitchen, and this is because these islands offer a wide range of benefits, all of which help to improve one of the most important rooms in the home. The kitchen is one room in the house that should be both practical and appealing, and this is because it is a room in which many people not only have to work and cook but also relax and entertain. Having one of these islands installed in your kitchen will really add to the look of the room, giving it a sleek, modern look and adding to the practical features of the room. You will find your island is an invaluable addition to your kitchen, and will make life far easier when working in this room as well as adding to the look of the kitchen.

Enjoy the many benefits of kitchen islands

When you have one of these islands installed you will enjoy a range of benefits. You can get islands that boast extra drawers which means that you will be able to enjoy additional storage space. The extra countertop space will provide you with additional space to work, and can also double up as table top space when you are not working in the kitchen. You can enjoy a great choice of islands, such as butcher block style islands and granite islands -- in fact, you will find something to suit practically every kitchen with styles and designs to fit in with your kitchen cabinets, décor, theme, and personal taste. Having a separate place to prepare food away from the sink and other work surfaces can be a real blessing, particularly if you have a lot of food to prepare, so those with big families will really appreciate the extra workspace that these islands provide.

These islands will help you to make the most of your kitchen space

Having a larger kitchen is great, but for most people having a lot of empty space in the middle of the room is simply a waste. More often than not extra workspace and storage is far more beneficial, and by having a stylish and modern island fitted in the kitchen you will be able to enjoy these benefits without compromising on the comfort and great look of your kitchen. You can look into buying some stools that match your island, enabling you to use it as a breakfast bar or table as and when required, and you will find it a pleasure to work in an area where you have the freedom to move around away from the other equipment and appliances in your kitchen. These islands can be very cost effective, and are a great way to enjoy kitchen and home improvements without breaking the bank. And with the excellent choice of islands available you can find something that suits your kitchen, your pocket, and your tastes perfectly. <bio>Concentrating on news and information about kitchen cabinets, Jerry Blackburn publishes normally for http://www.kitchen-cabinets-tips.com .
Commercially, the Phoenix genus of palm trees is broad and very desirable for use in landscape situations of the south, and to decorate offices. Huge specimens of the Canary Island Date Palm, Phoenix canariensis, show considerable cold hardy qualities in northern parts of southern states such as zone 7. Phoenix sylvestris can also be used as landscape specimen for landscapers who look for slender trunks. The Medjool date palm, Phoenix dactylifera, can be planted as a fruit tree to produce delicious dates, or it can be planted as a tropical landscape specimen. The size of the dwarf pygmy date palm tree is in great contrast to the giant Canary Island date palm tree. The pygmy date palm tree, Phoenix roebellenii, is a very popular container choice for outdoor display that can be moved indoors during cold weather.

Canary Island Date Palm -- Phoenix canariensis

Leaves 20 feet long growing on 50 foot massive trunks make the Canary Island Date Palm, Phoenix canariensis, a highly desirable palm tree for a tropical look around entrances to patios or pools. The Canary Island date palm has been considered fairly cold hardy in lower southern states and specimens of large trees have survived in winters as far north as Columbia, South Carolina. The trunk of the Canary Island date palm is huge in diameter and the triangular cuts on the palm leaves are considered to be highly decorative. The resort of Sea Island, Georgia is loaded with large palm tree specimens of the Canary Island date palm, and none of these trees have ever been damaged from snow or cold since 1927. The Phoenix palm, Phoenix canariensis, is not fast growing, thus this particular palm tree is very expensive; however, the Phoenix canary palm is easily transplanted and easy to grow. In Florida, long lines of the Canary Island palm trees are planted on the boundries of boulevards. The Canary Island palm tree was the best survivor of hurricanes that hit Florida in the year 2004 because of its massive size and extensive root spread.

Medjool Date Palm -- Phoenix dactylifera

In ancient history, this famous Medjool date palm fed the many areas of the Mideast. A food, the dried date, was easily preserved to sustain travelers who promoted caravan trade throughout the East and Western civilizations. Like grain, olives, raisins, and wine, these commodities, along with dates, flourished in stable empires of the past with properity that overflowed abundantly. The Hebrew Scriptures repeatedly mentioned the Medjool date palm, Phoenix dactylifera, as God's gift to the chosen people, the Jews. Groves of the Medjool date palm trees still grow in the ancient lands of the Israelites, and newer groves have been established and grow productively in the Western United States, where dates are harvested yearly for gourmets to buy at markets. The Medjool date palm trees grow into enormous specimen trees with time and are choice landscape trees at vacation resorts for that tropical look. The Medjool date palm tree is cold hardy in most southern areas of the United States in zones 7-11.

Pygmy Date Palm Tree - Phoenix roebellenii Although the Pygmy Date palm tree, Phoenix roebellenii does not show the same cold hardy characteristics as the other Phoenix palm trees, it is a very popular landscape plant. It can be used for outside use but is best when planted in containers to be moved inside during winter or to be grown inside in offices year round. The dwarf nature of the Pygmy Date palm, Phoenix roebellenii, makes it easy to grow and manage with minimum care. The Dwarf Pygmy Date palm tree is armed with sharp spines that are often clipped off in office situations. The tropical look of the Pygmy Date palm leaves is a valuable characteristic for the nursery tree buyer, who shops for tropical office trees that require a minimum of care.

Sylvester Palm Tree - Phoenix sylvestris The feather-like leaves of Phoenix palm trees are all similar, however, the thin, slender trunk of the Sylvester palm tree, Phoenix sylvestris, sets it apart from the massive thick trunk of the Canary Island palm tree, Phoenix canariensis. The Sylvester palm tree, Phoenix sylvestris, is a choice specimen tree with it's towering trunk topped and a spreading canopy of ten foot leaves. Phoenix sylvestris transplants well in small or large tree plantings, and the seeds easily sprout to form new palm trees. The Phoenix sylvestris palm tree exhibits the same cold hardy survival characteristics as the Canary Island palm tree, Phoenix canariensis, growing undamaged in Zones 7-11. <bio>Visit TyTy Nursery to purchase the trees mentioned in this article, or many others that you may be looking for! http://www.tytyga.com </bio>

There are many wonderful and beautiful places to visit in the world. If you are blessed enough to get frequent vacations then you are well aware of the fact that it can be hard to choose what kind of vacation to go on and where to spend your days away from work. Do you want to vacation somewhere warm or somewhere cold? Do you prefer a bit of an isolated vacation or do you like the busyness of being surrounded by many people? As my family and I have been vacationing for the past few years, we have determined our favorite spot that we just cannot get enough of: the Caribbean islands.

I knew the Caribbean islands were something special the first time we took our children there. There was a magic and a wonder in their eyes upon seeing the water that even Disney World didn't evoke the year before. Our kids were absolutely hooked on the sheer beauty of the Caribbean islands. I didn't mind the relaxed pace or the daily agenda of just being by the water and swimming if we felt like it.

One of the great things about the Caribbean islands is the variety of locations and feels there is to choose from. If you are looking for an island with a lot of activity, you can find it in the Caribbean islands. If, however, you are looking for a quiet and secluded feel for your vacation, it is not hard to find a Caribbean island that fits your needs. Few places in the world offer such flexibility for any kind of vacation. You can stay on a Caribbean island that offers a lot of tourist attractions or you can stay somewhere that only offers the beach. It's up to you.

Another obvious thing to love about the Caribbean islands is the sheer beauty that surrounds you. I have never been to a place more beautiful in all my travels. From the moment we stepped off the plane we were struck by just how full of beauty the Caribbean islands were. The water held a variety of shades of blue and green. The sand was nearly angel hair white and the sky was bright blue and full of sunshine every day. The landscaping was immaculate and I have rarely seen as green of grass and plants. The Caribbean islands are simply unmatched for this kind of beauty.

So, if you're looking for a great place to vacation, look no further than to the Caribbean islands. You can experience any kind of vacation you want to, but all in the midst of the beauty and wonder of the Caribbean islands. What could be better than that? <bio>Analeese Burnabaker loves to visit the Caribbean islands. As a travel consultant, she also loves to encourages others to visit there too.
As bird lovers, there are a couple of things that you should bear in mind when you decide to redecorate your home, or that of your precious feathered friend. Apparently that 'canary in a coal mine' situation isn't the stuff of sayings and folklore. Well into the twentieth century coalmines did not have adequate ventilation systems. So miners in the UK and the United States would keep canaries in cages in the mines. These beautiful, little yellow birds are especially sensitive to methane and carbon monoxide -- so as long as the canary kept singing then the air was safe. A deceased canary signaled an immediate evacuation.

The canary in a coalmine story has strong implications for us bird lovers. All animals are sensitive to toxic fumes, but birds are the most sensitive of all and we need to consider how our actions can affect them.

One of the greatest threats to air quality in a home is the use of paint. Newly decorated walls can off-gas volatile organic compounds and toxins for up to six years after application. Therefore, although many people know to remove their birds when redecorating their home, even bringing the birds back in when that new paint smell has gone, may still not be enough to protect them from harmful toxins.

It is important also to remember this basic principal when repainting your bird's cage. Instead of using normal paint and going through the trouble of drying it and making sure that your bird doesn't scratch it and ingest flakes, you may want to look at bird safe paint. Odorless paint means that the paint doesn't contain any toxins or vocs. That new paint smell comes from the solvents that are used in paint to help the paint harden. No voc paint means that they don't contain any solvents and so are safe to use around your birds and are actually better for the environment too.

There are a couple zero voc paints on the market and some of them come in a wide variety of colors and different finishes -- always remember to read the label to ensure that the paint is actually completely toxin and voc free. Some paints call themselves low voc but actually contain high levels of the stuff that can be dangerous for your birds.

When you have found your bird paint there are a couple of things to bear in mind. Never paint the cage when the bird is in there. Better yet, move your bird to another room or out of the house and make sure that the room is well ventilated. However, if you are using a truly no voc paint then this should not be much of a problem, but all other paints are going to require heavy ventilation to protect your pet. Also make sure that they cage is properly covered without any collection of paint at the joints etc, as this can easily be picked off and ingested. And remember, don't bring your bird back into the room until that new paint smell has gone -- unless of course you are using odorless paint with zero vocs, and then you can paint away with your bird on your shoulder!<bio>Delilah Jones has a passion for zero VOC paints and the impact to consumer safety. She is also interested in how a 100 percent non toxic paints and low odor paints can correlate.</bio>
