When in college you usually have a choice of either taking an online class or a campus class. Both of these classes are very different but have a lot to offer. There are many advantages and a few disadvantages for both of them. If you want to learn more about both and need some positives and negatives for both to help you decide what you want read below.

Campus classes: These classes are going to the college, and learning from a professor that lectures you in class. Campus classes are similar to the atmosphere of high school.

Advantages: There are many advantages when it comes to taking a campus class. One advantage is that you learn from a class room setting which is what a lot of students like. You are able to ask the professor questions right then and there. Also you are able to make friends easily due to friendly college campus atmosphere. You are also able to get out of the house and learn what you are interested in.

Disadvantages: There are a few things that don't work for people when it comes to taking a campus class. Campus classes are only available certain days of the week and certain times. If you are working a part/full time job, this can be very challenging. Also if you have children, it can be very hard to find a scheduled class that works for you. With prices in gas rising it may be very costly to have to go to the campus also.

Online classes: Online classes are simply run by using a computer. You will never have to leave the house unless you want to meet with the professor. All your work is through a computer and the use of a textbook. Online classes are very different from campus classes.

Advantages: There are a ton of advantages for taking an online class. If you have children or a job this is the class you should definitely consider. Online classes are great because you go to school when you want to. You never have to leave the house and you don't have to worry about being somewhere at a certain time. Also online classes save you a ton of gas money. You never have to drive to the campus unless you want to meet with the professor which isn't common. Also you are capable of working at your own pace. You don't have to sit through a lecture of things you already know about. Also if you're sick you don't have to worry about the professor getting mad that you didn't show up for class. You can simply just make up the work the next day or when you feel better.

Disadvantage: One thing that people don't like is that you don't have as much interaction as you do at a campus class. You can still talk to people online but it isn't as easy to make friends as in class. Also you don't have direct contact with your professor like you do when you're at school. If you have a question it make take a little while for your professor to e-mail you back due to the fact that they don't know right then and there that you're trying to contact them.

Campus classes and online classes are both a great way of learning. They are very different from each other and have many advantages with just a few disadvantages. If you need help deciding what you want to take, read above and you'll get a good idea on what will work best for you.<bio>Find student credit cards and more of Tom's work at FINDcollegecards.</bio>

If you are a foreign student studying in the US, chances are that there are a lot of things that are unfamiliar to you. International students pay more than American students for tuition (sometimes almost double!) and so often have to get a job. If you are going to get a job, here are a few tips about getting a Social Security Number (SSN).

1. Try to work on-campus.

Working on campus is good for a number of reasons. Firstly, it helps you get a better feel for the campus, which will make you more comfortable in a foreign place. Secondly, the campus often have a lot of support resources that can help you. But most importantly, if you work on campus (in a library, as a research assistant, or in whatever capacity you can find) the international students office of you school will write you a letter to take with you to get your social security number.

2. Why do I need a Social Security Number?

You need a Social Security Number (SSN) if you are getting paid in any way in the United States. This means that you will need a social security number even if you are receiving a scholarship. (Even that money is taxable, and trust me, they will be taxed). Don't delay in your SSN application because sometimes employers won't be able to give you your pay check until you have your number.

3. How long does it take?

It takes about four weeks to get a social security number, once you have gone to the government office. This means that you need to make sure that you begin your paperwork right away.

4. Where do I start?

The first step is to apply for jobs on campus (or off-campus). Once you have a printed job offer in your hand, then you can go to the office of international students. They will probably photocopy your job offer, your passport, and your visa. If you are not getting a job on campus, you will still need a written version of your job offer to take with you.

5. What should I bring?

Find out where the nearest SSN office is to you. When you go there, you will need quite a few things: a) Your Letter of Offer (from your job or scholarship), b) A letter from the office of international students (if you are applying for an on-campus job; this letter will say that you are currently enrolled and attending classes; you don't need it for an off-campus job), c) your passport, d) your visa (F-1, J-1, etc), e) all other immigration papers that you have (this means bring in any forms that you can think of, such as your I-94 form; you can even consider brining your SEVIS fee form...it never hurts to bring too much).

When I went to get my SSN, they also asked to see my birth certificate, which is not on the list of mandatory items to bring. For a friend of mine, they asked to see her driver's license. It is better to bring these just in case. You don't want to be turned away or have to come back with more information.

There aren't any forms to fill out for the SSN before you get there. A person at the office will help you fill out all of the forms that you need to.

Good luck!

I'm sure that you won't have any problems finding a job, or getting your SSN. It's a lot of paperwork, but in the end it's worth it. <bio>You can also use your SSN to open up a bank account. You can even use it to take out a bank loan.
Student jobs have become a sort of trend among students around the world, who want to work while they are studying. In short, the term that suits this trend is 'Earn and Learn' policy. Other reason why student jobs are popular among students is they help to cope up with the constant increase in tuition feed, and a way to afford further educations. If you too are a student and are willing to do a student job, there are plenty of options available for you.

Reasons to Work

Sometimes, it is very stressful to work as well as study simultaneously. Many colleges and universities offer student jobs in various departments. You may opt for such jobs in the college department. However, these jobs require through knowledge and understanding of academics of the department. Mostly, all the college jobs are part time jobs and they help students to work according to their schedules.

Advantages:

Student jobs on the campus are very advantageous. Students, who get these jobs and help run the campus, are able to adjust with the college life quickly. If you choose to do a campus job, it is the way to meet new students and get the knowledge about other professors and compeers. There are other departments apart from academics, which too offer campus jobs. Various administrative offices, bookstores and cafeterias are some departments that offer these jobs.

The percentage of working students in the non-teaching department account is 25% in all the universities across the U.S. These jobs help students to fund themselves for their tuition fees, textbooks, living and accommodation and for extra expenditures. The reason why students have to work is that a financial aid or loan may not be sufficient to cover all the studying expenditures of a student.

Other benefit of a student job in the campus is there are high chances of scoring better grades than other students score. You may also have a better job after your graduation, with a good work experience in the campus. After graduation, many companies visit universities to seek candidates for various posts and with a work experience in the campus, your chances of acquiring that post is much brighter than other non-working students. These companies also get an impression that you possess skills of multi-tasking and are able to manage your time well.

There is a misconception among students that working for more hours, hampers the students performance in classes. Studies show that these students perform well in their classes compared to non-working students. Thus, the time allotted for working is only 20 hours a week, as this keeps students stress free and does not hamper their performance too.

Overview:

Your decision to study for a college degree has to be the most important step towards a bright carrier. Keep in mind that whether you are building a good bio-data, developing a good reference list or learning better time management skills, these student jobs not only help you financially, but also help to get a good job after graduation.<bio>Find a student credit card and more of Tom's work at FINDcollegecards.</bio>

Heading off to college can be a nerve-racking experience, particularly when you start adding up all of the expenses you will be facing when you attend school. Though college is going to be somewhat costly regardless of what you do, there are a few things you can do to help save yourself some money when heading off to pursue your dreams.

Take Advantage of Pre-Paid Meal Plans

With pre-paid meal plans, which are offered by most colleges to students staying on campus, you can actually get a pretty good deal when it comes to how much you will be paying per meal. Of course, you need to be on campus and at the student dining hall in order to take advantage of these free meals. Try not to get caught up in socializing off campus so much that you miss out on the meals you have already paid for with the pre-paid meal plan.

Shop Smart when Purchasing Textbooks

College textbooks can be quite costly. In fact, the books you need for just one class can cost you hundreds of dollars if you buy your books from the campus bookstore.

Rather than shelling out unnecessary dollars, see about buying the used books the store will have to offer. You will need to get in early, however, because used books usually fly off of the shelf pretty quickly.

If the campus bookstore is out of used books, try looking online with bookstores such as Amazon.com. Another option is to ask around campus. More than likely, there is someone else on your campus that has already taken the class that will be more than happy to sell the book to you.

Another way to save money on textbooks is to purchase international books. Books sold in other countries usually have the same content as those bought in the states but cost much less in order to be appropriate for that country's economy. These books may be made of less quality paper and may contain only black and white print, but the savings can be quite substantial.

Bypass the Bookstore when Selling Old Textbooks

When you are done with your textbooks, you most likely won't be using them again. Therefore, you can sell the books in order to recoup some of the money you spent to buy them in the first place.

Many people take their textbooks back to the campus bookstore to resell them. While this is convenient, you can actually make more money if you sell your books directly to someone without bothering with the bookstore. In fact, you can make more money while also providing that person with a better deal than what the bookstore has to offer.

Look Into Student Discounts and Freebies

In order to experience college to its fullest, you will likely want to be involved in a number of different activities. Many times, students can actually receive special discounts or can even get into certain events for free. Be sure to find out about free events and concerts that are offered nearby and take advantage of them in order to socialize and have fun. Also, ask businesses whether or not they offer student discounts and take advantage of these offerings as well. <bio>StudentsMetro is a source of college textbooks for sale (http://textbooks.studentsmetro.com/college-textbooks-for-sale/) for York University Textbooks (http://textbooks.studentsmetro.com/school/9/York-University) and Seneca College Textbooks (http://textbooks.studentsmetro.com/school/2/Seneca-College) </bio>

Working on campus often has many benefits for students. Employers on campus can be more flexible with hours and more understanding of exams. Being on campus means that you are close to the library and other school resources if you have to grab a book or meet with a prof before or after work. You will also learn more about your school and how to use your resources to excel. Here are few places to look for jobs on campus:

What is important

Before you start your job search, you need to establish what is important about the job that you are looking for. Do you have certain number of hours that you want to work? A set amount of money that you want to make? For a sample budget, visit www.theguideto-studentloans.com/budgeting/.

Work in your department

Do you want to stand out to future employers? Give yourself an edge in the job market by getting a job in your department. Often these jobs aren't posted, because they are snapped up so quickly. The best way to get a job in your department is to ask a few of your professors if they are doing research projects and need research assistants. Often this job is as simple as filing; sometimes this job could involve slogging through microfilms in the library to find facts or articles. You might even be assisting in experiments. Find out the nature of the job before you begin. Speak to the department secretary and drop off your curriculum vitae in case any professors are looking for help (even she might be looking for some student aid). A curriculum vitae is like a resume, but it highlights your scholastic accomplishments. For this, you would be able to put down any major projects that you have done.

Consider being a Teaching Assistant

Have you ever taken a course with a teaching assistant? Did you do particularly well in that course? You can visit that professor, or the professor who is currently teaching the course, to see if you can get a teaching assistantship. Sometimes these are paid positions. Other times you can be a teaching assistant for credit. Decide which is best for you. Remember: these don't all have to be in your department.

Secretarial Positions

Universities and colleges are massive bureaucracies. This means that there are many administrative assistant positions in order to get all that paperwork under control. Find out where students can apply, and you could land a job at the front desk of the Humanities Centre, or you could man the desk at the Student Resource Centre. Of course, all campuses are different, but find out where you can work at yours.

Special Interests

Oftentimes you can work at the Women's Centre, the GLBTQ space, or the childcare centre on campus. You could get a job at the international student centre, or at the aboriginal students centre. Do you fall into any special group on campus? Chances are that you could find a position doing something that you like based on your status on campus.

In Your Field

Do you want to work with computers? Consider a job at with the information technology people on campus. You could answer the helpline when students call in for tech support. You could supervise the computer lab.

Are you planning on working in the arts? Why not apply to the box office to get some front of the house experience? Box office experience looks great on any musician, artist, or actor's resume, because it shows that you truly have a passion for the entire field and are more than just a diva.

Do you think you might be a teacher? If you are interested at all in working in the resource centre, getting a job at the library might be an asset to you.

The list of jobs on campus related to your field goes on and on; these are just a few examples.

Go all in

If you can co-ordinate a centre or institute, do so. Work for a year in the child care co-operative, then become the co-ordinator. This will give you added responsibility, but will also improve your resume and help you get involved. Remember, however: don't overschedule yourself or get in over your head. The reason you are in school is for the classes. The rest is icing on the cake. <bio>If you are not going to make enough money (even with a job) to pay your rent, bills, and tuition, visit http://www.theguideto-studentloans.com.
Picking a college is one of your largest and most expensive investments in your life. It requires a lot of time and money, so you will obviously want a school that fits your needs and desires. By talking to the right people, asking good questions, and experiencing each school's unique collegiate atmosphere, you can learn a lot. Much of this can be learned in a one-day visit, more so than just looking at the school's promotional materials, websites, or advertising videos.

Arranging your visit in advance will give you some time to do a little research of your own so you aren't going in blind before hand. Arranging an appointment or walk-through is usually very easy and can be done by contacting the admissions office. It is to your best interest to schedule a walk-through on a school day so that you can observe a normal day on campus with students walking around. Also making an appointment to talk to a financial aid administrator, an admissions officer, and a professor in a few majors you may be interested in will really help you grab the most out of your visit. Talking to students will also give you a realistic view on what is happening at the school and how they like it.

Do your homework! Get ready for your walk-through by first going through the school's website, course catalogs, and any materials they have sent you already. As you investigate each school, jot down questions you have, things you see as a strength, as well as noticeable weaknesses. Start to make comparisons of each school, but remain open-minded as many of your questions will be answered during a visit.

Evaluate each campus you visit and remain attentive. Be open to what each school has to offer. During a visit, it's easy to be distracted by stately architecture, an enthusiastic tour leader, and the sheer energy of most campuses. What matters most is whether this college is right for you, your education goals, and your family's budget. Can you envision yourself spending several years there? Bringing a notebook to record your impressions and questions is highly recommended, along with a camera, and a map of each campus as well as the surrounding area. There are also a few things to consider doing or asking during a campus visit:

=95 Take a guided tour of the campus (dorms, academic facilities, student centers, athletic and fitness centers, and library).

=95 Try to eat where the students eat.

=95 Observe a class in session.

=95 Interview students to learn what they like and dislike about the school.

=95 Ask about the best places to study on campus.

=95 Is there a student writing center or tutor program?

=95 Ask about on-campus and local weekend activities.

=95 What are the cultural resources on and off campus?

=95 What medical facilities are available and are they open 24/7?

=95 Ask about the campus security situation and campus crime statistics.

=95 Read the school newspapers, student publications, bulletin boards, and online forums.

=95 At some time during your visit, wander the campus with no specific destination in mind. Most people will feel a sense of whether the school is right or wrong in their gut as they are walking around.

Picking a college doesn't have to be stressful or confusing. Simply gaging what you want with what each college has should give you a pretty good idea of what college is right for you. <bio>Build your credit with student credit cards at http://www.findcollegecards.com where you can also find more of Charles' work. </bio>

There is an official college ranking list produced every year that lists the top colleges in the country but these do not cover the important issues to a student, namely if the college really is for them. Luckily there are a number of college ranking guides that are produced by students themselves. The most accurate form of college ranking places the greatest importance on student happiness. Students grade their college based on a number of different factors, not simply academic qualifications. This type of college ranking process reflects the opinions of current students and recent graduates and is not influenced by the institutions. If you search the internet you will find sites where students have given a college ranking based on criteria such as:

* Academics * Athletics * Campus Dining * Campus Housing * Campus Strictness * Computers * Diversity * Drug Scene * Facilities * Girls * Greek Life * Guys * Local Atmosphere * Nightlife * Off-Campus Dining * Off-Campus Housing * Parking * Safety and Security * Transportation * Weather

These different aspects of college life all have varying levels of importance for a prospective student and the college ranking for one area may not be of interest but having them broken down into the individual categories allows a student to investigate the college ranking that is of interest to them and not just an overall ranking.

For example, a student without a car will not be interested in the college ranking for available parking facilities but would be keen to find out about the transportation available in the college area. An art student may not be concerned that their first-choice college does not have high speed internet access in the dorm rooms but a computer major would class this as essential.

Female students are more likely to be concerned about a college ranking for security on campus and be especially interested in the levels of campus police but may not be bothered if the school has a low college ranking for the football coaching.

Apart from visiting some of the college ranking websites and reading surveys conducted amongst students it is also useful to attend the colleges that you are considering before making a decision. This will enable you to confirm, or refute the claims made by the college ranking yourself and also offer you the chance to see if the college actually feels right for you before you accept a place. <bio>Excellence In Academic Endeavors Is Not A Talent That A Person Is Born With.
The advancement of technology has opened up a lot of new opportunities for people all over the world. In the field of education, many top colleges and universities in the country today has opened their doors to students who want to study online. Many of these colleges and universities are now offering accredited online college degree to students from all over the world. One still needs to go through the usual application and student selection process of these top colleges and universities to be able to enroll in their accredited online college degrees. However. the fact that one can now study in the comforts of his or her home is already a huge advantage. This is especially true for students who are living in far away areas and could afford to relocate near the college or university.

If you are accepted to an accredited online college degree of a college or university in the country, you are eligible to apply for study grants and financial assistance. Note that just because you are studying online does not mean that you are not considered as a regular student of the college or university so you can still make use of whatever study grants and student financial assistance available. Since most colleges and universities now offer online applications for student grants and financial assistance, you do not need to visit the campus to apply for these student assistance programs. All you need to do is go online and log-in to the college or university's website and go to the page for student financial assistance. Use your student number to apply for student grants and financial assistance. Your application will now be processed by the college and university.

Since you are enrolled in accredited online college degree program of the college or university, the amount of financial assistance that you can get may vary from the assistance given to students who are studying in campus. In most cases, students that are enrolled in accredited online college degree programs get a fraction of the financial assistance given to students who are studying in campus. The reason behind the diminution in the amount of assistance that you can get is that since you are not living and studying in campus, you are supposed to incur lesser amount of expenses compared to those students that are living and studying in campus. However, the good news is that you will still enjoy the same rate of interest and payment schemes for student loans enjoyed by those students who are living and studying on campus.

For Information Contract,Telecommuting and Part time Jobs in India Visit http://www.bharathcontractjobs.com/index.php <bio>James Gunaseelan Wrties for India's No.1 Contract Job Portal

http://www.bharathcontractjobs.com/ind </bio>

The freedom that comes with leaving home and going to college can be exhilarating, but don't let it be simultaneously destructive or simply lost time. Once you leave for the campus and are responsible for yourself, you have to balance work, fun, and other life-relevant activities in between. The college experience affords a number of great opportunities that can be missed by the extremes of either studying or relaxing too much.

College life is largely about productivity. In it, there is probably some work you "ought" to be engage in at most times of the day and evening. The only way to accomplish it all and still have time to relax is to use your time wisely. When doing schoolwork, think about the fastest ways you can organize your assignments to complete them with quality work while seeking the best grades. The most successful students in college are not necessarily those who study all the time. Rather, they're the ones who don't waste time and instead use it efficiently.

The old adage "the more you do, the more you get done" is seldom more accurate than in college. The most active and purposeful people also tend to earn the highest grades. Don't simply go to class and hang out with your friends, but become involved in a few of the nearly limitless organizations around campus. Whatever your interests may be, there is likely a group to support, enjoy, or protest them.

If you can't find a representative organization of interest to you on your campus, consider organizing one yourself. Your eventual career may actually come not from simply the completion of your classes, but perhaps more from the skills and connections you make through campus organizations. Leadership in campus organization also looks great on your resume.

Certainly the costs you incur during your college years pay for classes, but they also cover opportunities for participation in school-wide and smaller events. You are afforded the accessibility of lectures, speeches, workshops, concerts, and other events that would otherwise cost a lot of additional money if you did not have them as part of being a student. Celebrities and other well-known people from all walks of life visit college campuses. So do "unknowns" who may turn out to have a significant positive influence on your life.

Become actively engaged in your classes, and get to know your professors. Ask a lot of questions during your classes. If you merely sit there nodding your head or staring forward, you won't be getting your money's worth.

After classes as you have time, approach some of your professors and start discussions relevant to the subject matters they teach. Professors are usually interesting people and can offer intriguing life perspectives that might not normally be evident during class time. Building a relationship with a few of them at your school can also provide you creative opportunities that would not take place otherwise.

Remember, you are paying a high cost for college, so make the most of it. Many people have fond memories of college as the best time of their lives. Take advantage of it while you can. <bio>For practical college and university information, please visit http://www.college-selections.com, a popular site providing great insights concerning options, such as http://www.college-selections.com/university-of-phoenix-online.shtml - to help you with some of the higher education choices in the US. </bio>

Campus Fire Safety: Dormitories

In most schools, fire safety and fire prevention are only taught through the third or fourth grades in elementary school. By the time teenagers graduate from high school and become adults as they go away to college, for many, much time has passed since they were last reminded and taught about fire safety.

The USFA (United States Fire Administration) states that where fire casualties occur on campus dormitories or housing facilities, alcohol has been a huge factor. Many people are aware of the stereotypical college student motto: work hard and play harder. Because of this, alcohol consumption is often rampant on almost any college campus. The USFA also states that nearly 50 percent of all college-aged fatalities occur when the victim was under the influence of alcohol. This hinders judgment, and greatly impairs evacuation efforts.

So what is the cause of most fires on campus? Cooking is at top of the list, though it is closely followed by careless smoking habits and even arson. Though students are often considered grown-up and `on their own' when they go to college, many college campuses have rules for students to follow in order to keep them safe. Depending on the school, oftentimes these safety rules can be ignored. Students are still learning how to be responsible for themselves and their space (i.e. dorm room, housing apartment facility on campus). Smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detection devices are often aged and are not replaced with batteries as often as needed, thus greatly hindering the fire warning systems.

So, what suggestions should be found in a safety pamphlet that is handed out to students each semester? Reminders of basic fire safety and prevention practices, of course. Here are a few examples:

- Do overload electrical circuits and be careful when using power cords

- Be safe when cooking, and implement fire prevention practices

- Make sure fire alarm batteries are current and working

- When lighting candles, make sure they are properly contained (i.e. in a votive) and are a safe distance away from paper, wood, or fabric

- Carefully and correctly dispose of smoked cigarette butts

Next, what can the college or university do to keep the students safe as they live on campus?

- Hand out a fire safety and prevention pamphlets at the beginning of each semester

- Replace smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector's batteries at the beginning of each semester

- Conduct regular inspections of the housing facilities to ensure everything is running smoothly and is up to code

- Provide cigarette butt disposals throughout campus and nearby the dormitories

- Teach students how to properly contact emergency services (9-1-1)

- Conduct fire drills

Though college students are grown-up, they are often still learning responsibility. Reminding students of fire safety and prevention practices could greatly decrease the instance of careless fires occurring on campus each year. Most times, students haven't thought about fire safety since they were in grade school. Remind them, and inform them. That is the best way to aid fire prevention on campus. <bio>http://www.firstfireextinguishers.com http://www.firstfireextinguishers.com </bio>

It's not always easy to be a Christian on a largely secular college campus. There are pressures from all around to agree to the politically correct secular world. From the posters other student hang up in their dorm rooms, to the clothes people wear and to the music they listen too, there are a lot osf messages out there.

Luckily, there are ways to express your faith and still be cool,

A great way to express your faith in your dorm or apartment is to hang some cool Christian art posters. Most of the dorms of friends have posters like John Belushi's andquot;Collegeandquot; poster, beer ads, posters of scantily clad women, to music posters. It's great to be able to have a stylish Christian art poster up of my own to reflect your own faith and to have a positive influence in your life and hopefully the art will open the eyes of a non-Christian to the lord.

Music is another area where one's faith can be tested. While some secular music is good and is made by talented musicians, much of the music on a college campus has a negative impact on the listener. Many students listen to gangster rap, death metal, or pop by such false idols as Christian Aguilera and others.

And this music is everywhere. You hear it blaring out of cars, dorm rooms, and increasingly on iPods and mp3 players on campus. There are some excellent Christian audiobooks that can be played on CD's in you car or dorm. They can even be loaded to your iPod player. This is a great way to keep your focus on your Faith while being immersed in the secular world.

Fashion is another influence on the Christian student. On campus you see girls wearing immodest clothing and the guys wearing t-shirts with all kinds of messages on them. There are Christian t-shirts out there that are both fashionable and stylish. Many of the Christian t-shirts take their style from changing around other popular slogans and brands you see out there.
Dumaguete is a university town which houses four universities that contribute to the nations education. These four universities are Silliman University, Negros Oriental State University, Foundation University and St. Paul University.

Dumaguete is a city with a little more than 150,000 citizen during the summer, but during school time this number grows almost double in size. This is because Dumaguete is the number one University town in the Visayas and thrives mostly because of its influx of students every semester and every year.

The University with the biggest campus is Silliman University. Silliman University was founded on August 28, 1901, by American missionaries. The initial set up in the early days of the University was only restricted to Elementary and High School departments, but eventually evolved into a full University with a College department. Silliman University also abbreviated as SU is the oldest university in Dumaguete and SU was the first University in the Philippines to establish a campus radio station in the 1950s called DYSR.

Now Silliman University has 7,000 students enrolled and still counting. Silliman University has a very big campus that stretches out through many districts in Dumaguete. SU has a marine laboratory in which they research the marine activities in the surrounding areas and in the entire Philippines. The university also has their own farm where animals are bred and milk and eggs are being manufactured. There are even housing projects throughout the districts of Dumaguete city for Silliman teachers, staff and students.

Silliman offers many undergraduate degrees, master degrees and doctorate degrees. You can get any undergraduate degree at Silliman University that you could wish for, but the university should have more doctorate degrees available for the hopefuls.

Dumaguete would not be called a university town if there was only one university present. Dumaguete is also home to another university called Negros Oriental State University in short NORSU. The roots of the Negros Oriental State University are different than Silliman University, because it is a state college and used to be a public school. Silliman University on the other hand is a private university and therefore charges a lot more on its tuition than other schools. Negros Oriental State University is also located in different areas of Dumaguete.

You can find campuses of the Negros Oriental State University in different places in Negros even and there is a college campus in almost every city throughout Negros Oriental. NORSU offers many undergraduate, master, and doctorate degrees which are not only qualitative but also very affordable. Dumaguete is also home of two other Universities. The first one is called Foundation University and is a private school. Foundation University has a beautiful campus with fountains and a lot of greens, and this university has even its own campus radio called Greyhound DYFU. The other university that can be found in Dumaguete is the St. Paul University. This school is a catholic school and is run by nuns. The big difference about this university is that the campus is more compact and that there are masses and prayers held every day, since it is a catholic school.

Dumaguete lives its status through the universities that reside in the city of gentle people. The universities stand for education and you see that Dumaguete City values education so that we all will live great lives.<bio>Peter Garant is writing Philippines Travel Articles for both Dumaguete Info and Dumaguete Board.</bio>

College is supposed to be one of the best times in a person's life. With so much to learn and experience, it's easy to get caught up in the fun and excitement. But what about safety? Though they might seem self-contained and cozy, college campuses aren't isolated from crime.

Know the facts about college safety

1) Rape is the most common violent crime on US campuses. 2) College students are victims of identity theft more often than other groups. 3) More college students are stalked than other groups.

Why is there so much crime on college campuses? When a bunch of young adults from all walks of life are thrown together, almost anything could happen. Alcohol

Having a few beers with friends at a bar is one thing, but getting tanked at a frat house filled with strangers is quite another. Alcohol plays a major role in sexual assaults. In fact, more than 70,000 college students are victims of an alcohol-related assault each year. If you want to stay safety-conscious, stay aware of how much you've had to drink. Date rape drugs

Your safety can also depend on who you know. Nearly all cases of date rape are instances where the victim knew his or her attacker. If you stop paying attention at a club or crowded college party, it's easy for someone to slip an odorless, colorless date rape drug into your drink. Don't be suspicious of all your friends, but keep an eye on your beverage. Computer labs

Labs aren't the problem. Students who are unfamiliar with computer safety precautions are. Many college students frequent campus computer labs to study and communicate with family and friends. Unfortunately, these labs are the perfect breeding ground for identity theft. You jeopardize your safety every time you enter personal information into lab computers. Use a private desktop or laptop to check your bank accounts, pay bills, and shop online. Sour relationships

Campuses are a common place for stalkers to prey on their victims. When college relationships end badly, stalking can and does occur. Worse, campus stalkers are familiar with their victims' daily routines. If you suspect you are being stalked, don't wait for the situation to get out of control =96 notify the campus authorities immediately. College safety guidelines

It's important to have a good time and enjoy your college experience, but you have to stay smart about safety. Just exercise good judgment and common sense:

1) Lock everything from your doors to your windows. 2) Keep an eye out for suspicious behavior and be aware of people as they approach you. 3) Check your car as you approach for someone hiding underneath or on the passenger side. 4) Don't carry large sums of money. 5) Travel in groups for added safety. 6) Stick to well lit areas if you have to walk on campus at night. 7) Yell "fire!" instead of "help!" if you are in danger, because people are more likely to respond to that. 8) Don't hang around outside your car or dorm room too long before going in. 9) Beware of headphones when you are jogging alone. They drown out any noise an approaching attacker might make. 10) Let someone know where you are going and when you should be back.

These are all easy things that could make a big difference in your campus life. Don't get so preoccupied with safety that it keeps you from having a good time, but keep your well-being in mind. <bio>Ralph Winn has over 32 years of education and experience in the security industry http://www.homesecuritystore.com </bio>

A college career is very important to have now a day. To have a successful future and a good paying job, college is most likely required to achieve both of those. There are a few different ways of going to college, either online or at campus. The two are very different ways of learning. Find out everything you need to know about attending college campus classes below:

What is the atmosphere like? -- When you go to a campus class for your first time, you will notice that is very similar to a high school atmosphere, although there are a few differences. There are a wide variety of age groups in your classes. Also, most colleges have a couple different buildings you'll need to walk to. Each building usually has some type of theme or specific subject. Example: One building is the math building, another for science and so on.

What are the professors like? -- Your college professors are just like any other teacher you may have had in the past. You future college professors will all be different most likely, depending on their personality. Some professors are stricter, some easier going and so on. Although, most college professors expect more out of you than your high school teachers did. When you're going to college, you are also paying a high tuition so they want you to do your best!

What are the students like? -- The students in you class will usually be younger, but there are different age groups in college. They may range from 15-80 it's always different. Also, the amount of students in your class is always different. They usually range from like 20-50 on average. College is a great place to make friends. Once you know what your major is and take all the classes you want towards it, you will find that a lot of the same people are in your classes. You'll notice a lot of the same people, which will help you make great study buddies and friends.

What kind of assignments do you get? -- All college professors are different, but the majority of them send you home with quite a bit of homework. When you attend college it is usually more homework than when you were in high school. There is a lot of reading and papers to write unlike high school it was a lot of handouts.

What are the quizzes, tests and exams like? -- Your college professor's quizzes, tests and exams are all different. Depending on how challenging your professor is, that gives you a good idea on what there tests are usually like. Once you take your first one, you will have a pretty good idea. Some professors like to give pop quizzes though, so always be on your toes!

From reading above, you should have a pretty good idea on what a college campus class is like. After you're first year, you'll feel like you've been in college for years.<bio>Find a student credit card and more of Tom's work at FINDcollegecards.com</bio>

Having fun in college can be very easy for some but difficult for others. The world is filled with many different people with many different hobbies. Some find college built for their mindset while others find it frustrating and boring. College can fun for everyone if you think of the ideas that can keep your entertained. I'll show you a few examples of how to have fun on campus without getting in trouble.

Campus sponsored events -- Depending on the campus you're attending, there's probably an event going on everyday that you're not aware of. A good way to see what events are going on is to either check the local bulletin boards, the college website or ask fellow classmates. Sometimes you'll be amazed at what kind of events the college offers. Who knows? There may be something you love that you can make a ton of friends and have fun at the same time!

Some of the events that you may find yourself attending are block parties, organized sporting leagues, movies, concerts, social clubs, chess clubs, etc. I guarantee that you if you look at the list of events that you'll find something that will cater your needs.

Join an organization -- No matter what college you're attending, you'll always find an organization. If you're not familiar with what n organization is, it's a group that usually has a focus or cause. Groups like MADD are a perfect example where their group focuses on mothers against drunk driving. If you have a view on something and you want to get with a group that has similar thoughts, an organization may be for you.

Host parties -- If you're renting out a house or you simply know of a big common ground, hosting a party or get together might be one of the best times you'll ever have. Simply tell your friends and the word will spread very quickly. You can simply put on the invitation that everyone needs to bring their own drinks and food. This way, you'll only be responsible for your house or the area. Parties don't always have to include alcoholic drinks; instead you can a fun time without them and just socialize with friends instead.

Think like home -- Staying on campus can make some people very home sick. Instead, try and think of what you did while you were at home to keep busy. Did you play a lot of video games? Did you read a lot? Try and pretend that your dorm room and college is your home now where you and your family live. If you can condition yourself to do this, keeping busy and having fun shouldn't be a problem. Remember, you can't live with mommy and daddy forever.

As you can see by these few options that college can be a blast if you become motivated and find ways to have fun. Sitting in your dorm all day and being depressed won't be fun. Just remember that the fun won't come to you, you'll have to go out there and find it!<bio>Find credit cards for students and more of Tom's work at FINDcollegecards.</bio>

Beginning a PhD program is a very big decision. Not only does it cost money, but you're making a very large time commitment as well. The sheer fact that you're considering this commitment suggests that you already have a very busy lifestyle. Generally a PhD candidate would be required to travel to the university/college to gain access to the best doctorate program in their field. This could mean taking leave from work and you family. How ever with todays modern education technologies PhD candidates can search for a program on the Internet. The distance learning PhD programs that are available online today are usually fully accredited and come with all the prestige that a PhD deserves.

Where should you start to look?

The Internet offers potential students all of the features of both a big and a small town or city. Using a good search engine will bring you right up to the community of your choice. One of the great things about online education is that no matter where you are in the world you can find as many options as you'd have in the largest cities in the world. Once you've begun your search your first task is to narrow down the distance learning PhD programs in your discipline. You want to learn as much about the institutions as possible, often schools will send you free information about their programs, it's a good idea to learn all you can about a school and their reputation.

It's very possible that you could never set foot on the campus of the university that graduates you with a PhD. Of course we all have the doubts that we without seeing it cannot be as good. Your mentor/advisor is someone you may only ever know through emails and work exchange. How ever this doesn't make the quality of the experience any lower. It's important to discover what your colleagues think of the potential program. Will you're degree be treated as equal in the professional world? A good source of education on each school and program are educational journals that may have articles regarding the distance learning PhD programs. These are an excellent source of valid information.

After you have completed your search and believe you've found the correct distance learning PhD program for you begin looking at the other required resources. If you're not going to be on a campus you're going to need a library. Does the school you're considering offer an e-library? Does it supply you with alternatives to not having a campus library at hand? Of course your work will be limited to the research you can do, and a library plays a big role in that.

More often then not a college close by will offer accessibility if you follow the correct channels during your time of enrollment. Of course you might like a distance learning PhD program that allows it's campus to be available. The bottom line is if you've made it this far to be ready to take on the challenge of a PhD, then you have what it takes to complete a distance learning PhD program. Find the right one, and it's smooth sailing. <bio>If you're serious about earning your PhD Degree online take a moment to visit our website to find out more information regarding enrolling for a PhD Degree online. http://progressyoureducation.com/Education/Online_Degrees/PhD_Online_Degrees </bio>

The mugger grabbed the woman's purse, pushed her against her car, and ran away... straight into a golf cart driven by campus police. The mugger was caught, placed in handcuffs, and held until county sheriff's deputies arrived to take the miscreant away. The woman got her purse back. Then, turning to the security camera covering the action in the parking lot, Campus Police Sergeant Jack Emmett gave a thumbs-up to Campus Police Chief Sam Acres... and unhandcuffed Campus Police Officer Gregory Layne. The test was a success.

Fraleigh College isn't the only gathering-place installing security cameras in order to make people safer. The Northside Church of Clement has also put the cameras up in its parking lots, monitored by a security officer in the office who is in constant radio contact with her fellows in the field. "We've got a lot of people here after dark -- especially moms with their young children," Security Director Christine Fargo said. "Pastor Jake asked me how we could make them safer."

The answer Northside and Fraleigh both discovered was closed-circuit video monitoring of their parking lots and other open areas during hours of darkness. "During the daytime, we've got good visual coverage of these areas without cameras," Acres assured me. "At night, with the recent uptick in violent crime, we decided we needed an extra edge. Fortunately, the Trustees agreed and ponied up for the system."

Jacob "Pastor Jake" Pascal, Northside's spiritual leader, also found the cameras to be a worthy investment. "We can only afford so many security officers. The cameras increase their effectiveness. They're our new first line of defense." With the new evening children's programs at the church, Pascal says, it was time for new ideas. And with the new advances in camera technology, "it was a no-brainer," Fargo said. <bio>Visit our Security Camera Store for Home or Business~ http://www.securitydefenseoutpost2.com </bio>

As high school students graduate and prepare to move away to college, they find out there are many things they need to know and understand before they truly are on their own. Many children learn about fire safety when they are in grade school. Once they reach third or maybe fourth grade, they are no longer reminded about the hazards of fire, and how they can prevent fires by applying fire safety practices each and every day.

The tragedy is, many students leave for college with little to no reminders about fire safety. The result is often careless fires on campus that could have easily been prevented; sometimes lives are even lost. If college campuses would take the initiative to educate and inform college students who live on campus about fire safety, certainly fewer fires and fatalities would occur on campuses across the United States each year.

So, how can college campuses educate and remind students about the necessity of creating good habits by practicing fire safety in their daily lives? Pamphlets in dorms, restrooms, and campus apartment rooms, including a pamphlet in students' orientation packets help as well. Many campuses put wellness signs up throughout the grounds to remind students to be healthy. Possibly signs on campus or sheets of paper on bulletin boards are also excellent ways to get the word around. Also, if campuses want to get the local community involved, they could invite the local fire department to come and speak to students about fire safety. Making it a student or school sponsored BBQ is always fun, and poor college students always show up for free food!

So, what kind of tips and information should be included in these pamphlets? Statistics always help people to understand the seriousness and the extent of fire damage on campus grounds (often the campus dormitories or apartment housing). On campus, the number of one cause of fire is started in the kitchen. Providing students with tips on kitchen safety would certainly help reduce the number kitchen-related causes of fire on college campuses. Reminding students to keep books, magazines, paper towels, napkins, and bags away from the stove top, in addition to keeping the handles of pots and pans turned inward on the stove.

The pamphlet can also remind students to always put candles in votives or a similar form of protective shield or base. Mention that candles should not be lit unless someone is present in the room, and when the person leaves, they should be responsible for blowing out the candle.

Many people are familiar with the unflattering college student stereotype: work hard, and play harder. Studies have shown that the most fatalities that occur on college campuses are the deaths of students in fires who were under the influence of alcohol at the time. Being intoxicated limits judgment and it also inhibits a quick response for escape.

Many college campuses are active when it comes to reminding students to lead healthy lives and pay attention to their mental, physical, and emotional well being. However, fire safety can often be overlooked, and sadly, student housing has been destroyed and loves have been lost due to the lack of fire safety practices of careless smoking habits. Reminding students of fire safety through pamphlets, message boards, and posted signs can reduce the number of campus fires, in addition to saving the lives of ambitious students. <bio>http://www.firstfireextinguishers.com http://www.firstfireextinguishers.com </bio>
