CaCO3 or calcium carbonate in chemistry.

Does it make sense to you?

Although you hear about this chemical compound before and see it as one of the ingredients in calcium supplements, there are still things that you need to know beyond the finished product. Read on and the rest of this article and learn more about this chemical compound.

Calcium carbonate, as mentioned earlier, is commonly used as a supplement. But there are also other uses of this chemical compound, which will be discussed in the later part of this article.

Aside from the aforementioned applications, calcium carbonate is also a natural ingredient of various elements. It is one of the active ingredients in agricultural lime, as well as a natural substance that can be found on rocks all over the world. Furthermore, it is also one of the major components of sea shells and the shells of the snails. Even the shells of the chicken's egg contain an estimated 95 percent of calcium carbonate.

Calcium carbonate that is used in the industry is sourced out from minerals or rocks such as calcite, limestone, chalk, and marble by means of quarrying or mining. Pure calcium carbonate which is used in processing foods or pharmaceutical applications is generated from a pure source, normally from marbles, and prepared by adding another chemical compound which is the carbon dioxide into the calcium hydroxide solution where the calcium carbonate precipitates out of the chemical reaction.

As mentioned earlier, calcium carbonate is used on various applications. These are as follows:

• It is mainly used in the construction application, whether as a building material (marble for instance) or limestone aggregate for road building purposes. It is also an active ingredient of the builder's lime together with the cementor.

• It also used as an extender in commercial paints, particularly in emulsion paints where thirty percent of the paint's net weight is either marble or chalk.

• It is also used as a filler in plastics.

• Calcium carbonate that is in the form of fine ground is important ingredients in the microporous film used in baby nappies.

• It is also used on adhesive applications, particularly in ceramic tile adhesives where it contains seventy to eighty percent limestone.

• It is mainly employed as whiting elements in ceramics application.

• It is the main component of the blackboard chalk.

• It is now used as an alternative to kaolin with regards to glossy paper production.

It is not just for your health--it also serves other purposes as well. So do not be surprised if the chalk that you are using in your classroom has the same main content as of the supplement that you are taking everyday. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
Since coral calcium is one of the hottest products on the market for the treatment of arthritis you would think that a site that is called the Arthritis Store would sell it. So why don't we sell coral calcium? It is simple we care too much for our customers. We do not sell products just because we can make money from them. We can offer coral calcium for one fifth of what it sells for on the info-mercials. But the simple truth is it is a scam.

Coral Calcium is not the best Calcium.

Coral calcium is calcium carbonate, the most common type of calcium on the market. It is no different than any other calcium carbonate. It is not more bio available. To say so is a lie. It does not work any different, it does not adjust your body's pH any differently and to say so is just a lie.

Coral Calcium cannot cure or prevent over 200 types of diseases including arthritis.

This is a flat out lie. There has never been one study to support this claim, not about this type of calcium or any type. Yes there is much research to support that calcium is good for you and everyone probably should take a calcium supplement. But there is no research anywhere that shows it can cure disease.

Coral Calcium will not keep you young

You hear the sellers say that the people in Okinawa live to be older, in fact they say that the highest percentage of people in the world over 100 live there. What they do not tell you is that the people in Okinawa do not eat coral and that researchers attribute their long lives to their mainly fruit and vegetable diets. There have been hundreds of research studies on calcium and not one has ever suggested that it will make you live or look longer.

Coral Calcium may actually be bad for you.

It is true that coral calcium contains trace elements that other forms of calcium do not carry. Some of these may be good for you. But what the sellers do not tell you is that among these trace elements are cadmium, aluminum, mercury, thallium, uranium, lead and other toxic metals. It is hard for your body to cleanse itself of these types of metals and even small amounts tend to accumulate and over time can cause health problems. Maybe this is why no living sea creature eats coral.

What is Coral Calcium good for?

Coral calcium is good for one thing, lining people's pockets. That is why the title for the article on coral calcium in the Berkley Wellness Letter is "How to Sell a 5=A2 Supplement for $1"

How to find a Good Calcium product

This is not to say anything negative about calcium. Calcium is something that almost all doctors, nutritionist and natural health practitioners agree on. We should all take a calcium supplement. It is good for our bones and our heart. Here are a few things to consider.

1. Calcium carbonate and calcium citrate are the two most bio available forms of calcium. This means that your body is able to absorb and use them

2. Do not pay too much. Do not buy into hype. Calcium is calcium. Just because it cost more does not mean it is better.

3. Some calcium's can be high in lead and other metals especially that from coral and bone meal. Check to see if it is certified as pure.

4. Vitamin D helps the body process calcium. This can come from your calcium supplement or from any other source. <bio>Rusty Ford Editor http://arthritis-symptom.com/ </bio>

When you hear the word "calcium chloride" what comes into your mind? Probably, you will say that just like other calcium compounds, it is used as an active ingredient on dietary supplements.

However, it is wrong.

Calcium chloride is not advisable to be used as an active ingredient in dietary supplements because of the presence of the element chlorine, which is one of the integral parts of the chemical compound apart from calcium. Instead, it is used on other applications that will be discussed on the later part of this article. But for the mean time, let us first discuss how calcium chloride is prepared.

Preparation of Calcium Chloride

This chemical compound is a by-product of the so-called Solvay process, or also known as the ammonia-soda process. It is a major industrial process employed in producing calcium carbonate wherein the calcium carbonate is reacted with hydrochloric acid, thus producing calcium chloride.

Application

There are millions of tonnes of calcium chloride that are produced in United States alone. It has different applications which are as follows:

• Since calcium chloride is hygroscopic (substances that readily absorbs water from its environment), it can be utilized to dry air and other gases as well. The process involves the conversion of calcium chloride into brine as it absorbs either water or water vapor from the gases that need to be dried.

• Because of the extreme heat involved during the compound's dissolution, calcium chloride also acts as an ice-melting compound. It is quite harmless on soil and plants compared to sodium chloride. When used for this purpose, it is now of small white balls which are of few millimeters in diameter which is known as prills.

• It is also mixed up with concrete in order to strengthen its mixture as well as to help fast track the initial settings. However, it is not advisable to be used on reinforced concrete since the compound contains chloride ion which is corrosive to steel bars.

• It is also employed on minimizing dust on several highways. Its hydroscopic characteristic keeps the liquid layer on the highway's surface, which in return holds the dust.

• It is also act as an additive in manufacturing of plastics.

• It is also employed for waste water treatment as a drainage aid.

• Its aqueous form is utilized on the cell's genetic transformation by enhancing the permeability of the cell membrane. Such process permits DNA fragments to enter the cell.

There are several precautions with regards to exposure on calcium chloride. Since it also contains acidic properties, you must always use goggles and gloves to protect your eyes and hands. Avoid inhaling it or taking it directly into your mouth. Once reacted with water, it can burn your mouth as well as your esophagus. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy. It may be used only in its entirety with all links included.
Coral calcium is a dietary supplement said to be derived from "remnants of living coral that have fallen from coral reefs, as a result of wave action or other natural processes. According to the coral calcium infomercial, taking coral calcium can cure up to 200 human diseases including heart disease, cancer, diabetes etc. When you start taking coral calcium, your body alkalizes and drives out the body's acidic state. Coral calcium is composed of mostly calcium carbonate, just like those you found in Tums or other calcium carbonate supplements from your health food stores.

Coral is composed of tiny, fragile living organisms called coral polyps. Coral reefs are among the worlds most fragile and endangered ecosystems, strict laws are enforced to preserve them. Since coral reefs are protected by law, "coral calcium" is made by grinding up dead coral called limestone that no longer contains live organisms. Coral grains are mined from fossilized coral beds on the coastline, and pumped from coral beds in shallow waters. Coral calcium supplements come from fossilized coral beds. Since it is severely illegal to mine "live" coral reefs, coral calcium has to come from a different source which is dead coral loaded with calcium and trace minerals.

For people who need to consume extra calcium, coral calcium may be the best choice. The body absorbs coral calcium better than other calcium supplements in the market mostly due to the trace minerals also found in coral. The calcium content of coral calcium ranges from 24% to 38% and is composed primarily of calcium carbonate. Ninety-eight percent of people over age 60 are totally calcium-deficient meaning, they are not consuming enough calcium to sustain current bone density.

Most of the body's calcium is stored in the bones, which can release whatever amounts are needed to maintain adequate blood levels, this causes bone loss. Historically, calcium supplements haven't always been safe: years ago calcium carbonate from bone meal or oyster shells, for instance, was used in some supplements --but was later found to contain high levels of lead and other heavy metals. Now with new technology and strict government laws calcium is very safe.

Like many other supplements, coral calcium is beneficial to your body in many ways. And unlike other calcium supplements, coral calcium does have special properties that make it worth strongly considering as a supplement to your daily diet, mainly trace minerals. Almost every cell in the body, including those in the heart, nerves, and muscles; relies on calcium to function properly.

Calcium deficiency can weaken bones (osteoporosis), but it does not make the body more acidic or cause a wide range of diseases. The body needs about two times as much calcium compared to any other mineral. The body of an unhealthy person is acidic, or has low pH this acidic state cause's disease. Over 35% of the body's mineral makeup consists of calcium, which literally performs hundreds of operations essential to our everyday lives. Are you getting enough?

Consumers should be aware of the claims that coral calcium can treat or cure cancer, multiple sclerosis, lupus, heart disease, or high blood pressure are not supported by existing scientific evidence. Most of the health claims being made about coral calcium from Okinawa are based on the fact that the Okinawan's are among the world's longest lived people and supposedly drink water containing coral calcium.

In conclusion, there is no medical evidence to support these claims, and coral calcium has been identified by the United States Food and Drug Administration as a Fake Cancer Cure Consumers Should Avoid. Most of the claims are based on how calcium can bring the body into a more alkaline state and this alkaline state strengthens the body and helps it fight disease over time. Knowing this, have you had your coral calcium today?<bio>More information on coral calcium is available at VitaNet ®, LLC Health Food Store. http://vitanetonline.com/</bio>

It's true that oral contraceptives increase the risk of Candida overgrowth, but so can your diet. For instance, foods that primarily feed Candida albicans include foods high in starch and sugar. That being said, other foods, including dairy products (with the exception of butter and eggs) also encourage Candida overgrowth. For this reason, many people try to keep their Candida in check by controlling their diet by following an anti candida diet.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that dairy products encourage Candida growth, particularly in those who have an allergy to milk, most dairy products (milk, cheese, ice cream, cream, buttermilk etc.) are often eliminated from the diet. This fact has those on a Candida diet wondering how they can give their body the necessary calcium it needs, without stimulating the growth of Candida albicans.

How can you get the calcium you need without the help of diary?

If you are concerned about calcium, you will be pleased to know that there are many other food sources that contain calcium such as:

- Dark leafy green vegetables (bok choy, kale, cabbage) - Raw broccoli - Seaweed - Dried fruit - Almonds - Sesame seeds - Pinto beans - Tahini - Canned salmon - Canned tuna - Sardines with edible bones - Calcium Fortified products (soymilk, tofu, orange juice, etc.)

That being said, you should keep in mind that certain foods that are high in calcium such as spinach and rhubarb also contain oxalates. Oxalates actually block calcium absorption and are, therefore, counter productive. Thus, make sure you research calcium enriched foods before trusting they will provide your body with the calcium it needs. It's also a good idea to visit a nutritionist or dietician if you plan on using non-dairy foods for sources of calcium.

In addition, in order to help your body maintain healthy calcium levels you should limit or eliminate your intake of caffeine and alcohol. These products deplete calcium levels. Furthermore, make sure you exercise regularly. Lack of exercise is another way to reduce calcium levels.

If you are having a difficult time ingesting foods rich in calcium, or are worried you are not meeting the daily requirements your body needs, you should talk to your doctor about taking calcium supplements.

It is highly recommended that you consult your doctor first before you begin taking calcium supplements. The reason is because it is not possible to accurately determine the correct amount of calcium your body requires without knowing your body chemistry first. There are many different calcium supplements on the market, and there is a high possibility that you can pick one which will make your pH worse rather than improving it.

You see, the vast majority of the less expensive calcium supplements have calcium carbonate listed as their main ingredient. Calcium carbonate is usually created from oyster shells or ground limestone. Calcium from oyster shells is the least effective supplement. Ground limestone, on the other hand, is a better calcium supplement than oyster shells (depending on how fine it's grinded), but it still doesn't compare to the better forms.

The best calcium supplement forms include:

- Pure calcium gluconate - Calcium citrate - Calcium lactate

In addition, avoid purchasing calcium supplements that list magnesium in their ingredients. The reason is because the body's Magnesium requirements should be attended to separately from calcium. Thus, the necessary calcium should be taken separately from other minerals. Moreover, you shouldn't buy combination supplements simply for their calcium content.

Don't forget that in order for calcium to respond effectively within the body to maintain balance, the correct type must be taken. Therefore, see your doctor first before you start supplementing your anti candida diet. <bio>By Jane Symms.
Calcium is one of the minerals that are good for the bones and are said to be able to treat some diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer's, lupus and cancer. However there are no research studies that have proven that coral calcium is capable of treating diseases better than other carbonated calcium pills which are not expensive.

Coral calcium became widely popular in the internet and health stores lately; however coral calcium pills are the most high priced in the history of pills.

Manufacturers claim that coral calcium is beneficial for treating almost two hundred kinds of diseases and also good for relieving pain. Advertisements and some websites are announcing that coral calcium cures cancer. They site a situation in Okinawa Japan where people who lives there are having a longer life span because the water that they are drinking has high level contents of coral calcium. Coral calcium is making the water into alkaline and it balances the acidity of the body in an individual. So coral calcium are good for acidic persons but be aware that you may experience some difficulties upon swallowing the pills if your acidity body contents are similar as the acidity in the labels imply.

Coral calcium is made out of corals and other sea creature's shells having higher contents of calcium carbonate and other minerals including magnesium.

Coral calcium is a dietary supplement so it is unregulated. People should learn that such products could not be safe even if its manufacturers are claiming its benefits. As history tells about supplements, there are basically some that has calcium contents that have found out to be unsafe thus some of them was tested to have higher lead contents which are health hazards.

Coral calcium alone cannot fight diseases. It must be combined with drinking mineral or spring water rich in oxygen and higher pH factor and other minerals or elements providing the natural ability of the body to fight back diseases.

Coral calcium is good for increasing the level of oxygen in the body helping it to get rid of toxicity build up. If you are a keen observer, you can determine the feeling of being sluggish after eating junk food or a heavy meal. It is because the oxygen are diverted away from the body's main metabolic functions making it hard to digest high calories.

Coral calcium offered the greatest advantage of balancing the pH alkaline level in the body in helping the system of the body fight or prevent diseases from attacking. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
There are a number of medications that are used to treat acid reflux. Some are over the counter antacids and others are prescription drugs. If over-the-counter medications are not treating your symptoms then you should consult a physician.

Antacids neutralize the digestive acids and are for mild symptoms of acid reflux. If you are going to use antacids, take them for relief of occasional instances of heartburn or acid reflux. Most antacids are available over the counter without a prescription as they are the first drugs recommended to relieve mild symptoms of acid reflux.

All antacids rely on three main ingredients. Those ingredients are magnesium, calcium, or aluminum. Magnesium salts come in the form of magnesium carbonate, magnesium trisilicate and magnesium hydroxide. Milk of Magnesia is magnesium hydroxide. There is a major side effect of magnesium salts and that is diarrhea. Magnesium salts combined with aluminum will prevent this unwanted side effect. Products containing both magnesium salts and aluminum are Mylanta and Maalox.

Calcium is another treatment used to counteract the symptoms of acid reflux. Calcium carbonate is contained in such products as Tums and Alka Seltzer. Calcium is a fast acting antacid that can cause constipation. Taking calcium carbonate for quite a long time can lead to kidney failure. This is rare though.

Aluminum salts are available in products such as Amphogel and Alternagel. Constipation is a side effect of taking aluminum salts. People that take large amounts of antacids are at risk to eventually develop osteoporosis, which is a progressive loss of bone density or thinning of the bone tissue, thereby increasing vulnerability to fractures. However, regular exercise along with vitamin and mineral supplements can reduce or even reverse the loss of bone density. Osteoporosis can also result from hormone deficiency, dietary deficiency or disease.

Liquid antacids generally work faster than tablets. The liquids are also more potent than tablets. Continued long time usage of antacids will increase the risk of kidney stones.

Some Prescription medications act as Receptor Antagonists, or H2 blockers. These drugs inhibit the production of stomach acid. When there is less acid in the stomach, there is a reduced chance of it agitating up into the esophagus. Some popular H2 blockers include Zantax and Pepcid AC. H2 blockers are available in different strengths. These particular drugs are available from over-the-counter strength to prescription strength.

Other Prescription medications such as Prilosec and Prevacid are proton pump inhibitors. They work to reduce acid in the stomach. This type of remedy alters the stomach's natural processes for acid production and regulation. It is sometimes necessary to do so for relief, but it is important to investigate alternative remedies for acid reflux symptom relief.

Whatever method of therapy you select, always consult your doctor! <bio>Thomas D.
Calcium hydroxide is one of the chemical compounds that are not associated in calcium supplement manufacturing because of the presence of acidic properties. It takes the form of either white powder or colorless crystal which is produced when another chemical compound which is the calcium oxide is quenched with water. It can also be produced by the mixture of the aqueous (water-based) solution of sodium hydroxide and the aqueous solution of calcium chloride.

When processed under heat, it decomposes into water and calcium oxide. One of the products, which is the lime water (formed by a suspension of fine particles of calcium hydroxide in water) is considered to be a medium-strength base which reacts viciously with acids as well as assails many metals in the presence of water.

Due to its sturdy basic properties, calcium hydroxide is used on various applications, such as the following:

• When in the form of lime, it is used as a sewage treatment and for the improvement of acid soils.

• It is an active ingredient in the production of plaster, whitewash, and mortar.

• It also acts as an alkaline which is used as a non-lye substitute in lye-free hair relaxers.

• It is also used as a reagent in the following applications:

o For the reef aquarium as a bio-available calcium additive solution for organisms inside the aquarium that uses calcium such as snails, algae, corals, and hard tube worms. o For the tanning industry as a neutralizer on extra acids. o For the petroleum refining application as an ingredient for manufacturing oil additives such as sulphatic and fanatic. o For the chemical application as an ingredient in manufacturing calcium stearate. o For water processing such as alcoholic and soda drinks. o For clearing magnesium and carbonate contents of calcium in manufacturing salt for food.

• It is also used as a filler on the following applications:

o Solid oil manufacturing. o Brake pad manufacturing. o Ebonite production. o Dry mix preparation for decorating and painting. o Pesticide mix manufacturing. o Polikar manufacturing (a drug that is used as a preservative for vegetables and fruits during storage period).

• It is also used in paste which is employed in tooth's root canal procedure which reduces inflammation as well as acting as a disinfectant within the infected area.

However, since it contains acidic properties, calcium hydroxide overdose can lead to dangerous consequences such as breathing difficulties, internal bleeding, hypotension, skeletal muscle paralysis, and an increase in the blood's pH level, which can cause damage to the body's internal organs. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
If you are renovating an existing room you may be looking for a piece de resistance and what better focus to add to a room than a hand carved limestone fireplace. Limestone fireplaces are also a great addition to new houses and are available in a variety of styles, colours and sizes to suit your home.

The History of Limestone

Each piece of natural limestone is unique and unlike any other piece due to the way it is formed. A sedimentary rock made of calcium carbonate CaCO3 limestone originates on the floor bed of tropical seas and turns into stone by the accumulation of the constituent grains of calcite. Calcium and bicarbonate ions in the water combine to form calcium carbonate as the water is warmed by the sun and carbon dioxide is given off to form limestone. The appearance and quality of the limestone is influenced by factors such as the quantity of calcium carbonate in the limestone and the amount of fossil contained in the limestone.

The colour of the limestone is also decided at an early stage in its formation, as different amounts of iron oxide dissolving produces cream, orange, brown and red shades whilst grey and black shades are produced by organic matter and iron sulphide.

Experts can effectively read the history of a piece of limestone and decipher when and where it was formed.

The Design of your Limestone Fireplace

As a versatile stone, limestone can either be carved or left untreated for a more contemporary looking fireplace. Due to the uniqueness of the stone, few limestone fireplaces are the same and most have different dimensions and styles, so you can be confident in the knowledge that your fireplace is a 'one off'.

The dimensions of the fireplace can be tailored to meet your requirements and made to compliment your interior design scheme. Fireplaces from reputable companies are usually individually made and signed off by a master mason, an expert in stone. The beauty of the limestone fireplace is that these days it is at home under any chimney with or without a hearth or mantel and is functional for any type of wood burning, solid fuel, electric, gas or enclosed stove fire.

One of the advantages of a limestone fireplace is that they never go out of style. You may choose to go for a more contemporary simple design, alternatively you may consider an elaborate design. Stone and art have worked alongside each other for years and fireplace consultants are starting to use stone in new and creative ways. If you are looking for a jaw dropping focal point for your room you will appreciate the fine detailing that can be achieved in a limestone fireplace design.

The Cost of your Limestone Fireplace

The price of limestone fireplaces is very much dependent on the quality, style and finish you choose. As fireplaces can be tailored to your requirements, most fireplace consultants will provide you with an idea of the cost based on your specifications. A limestone fireplace may be a little more expensive but is definitely worth the investment for your home.<bio>To view a range of limestone fireplaces visit registered installers of fireplaces MK Fireplaces at http://www.mkfireplaces.co.uk.
Many people have busy schedules and do not have the time to eat properly. Their diet does not contain the right ingredients to provide vitamins and nutrients that the body needs to function. To fill this need, there are vitamins available for people to take to supplement the lack of vitamins in their diet.

These vitamins are supplied in pill form, liquid elixirs, liquid vitamin supplements, and powder form. Some of these vitamins are sold in a multi-vitamin tablet form and contain all of the necessary supplements that a body will need to function properly. These multi-vitamins are sold by many manufacturers and in many doses, but the most popular dosage is 500 mg tablets.

There are commercial advertisements that ponder whether you have enough milk in your diet. Vitamin D is found in milk products and is said to help prevent people from getting diseases like multiple sclerosis. Calcium vitamins are sold in two varieties, calcium citrate and calcium carbonate. For calcium carbonate to be effective it must be taken with meals. These vitamins can be taken at any time of the day.

Many people wonder what the benefits are in taking vitamins and herbal supplements. They think their diet is sufficient in vitamins and nutrients and can not justify spending more money on something that they have plenty of in their bodies. The fact is that our bodies do not get enough vitamins, even if we eat a well-balanced diet.

People take vitamins because they help prevent many diseases and help slow the effects of aging too. Some vitamins are not manufactured properly and may lose their potency if they are exposed to heat and light. Vitamins that are found in meat, vegetables and other food groups loose their effectiveness when exposed to heat when they are cooked on a stove.

Vitamins are virtually useless to drug abusers because vitamins can not be absorbed into the body properly. Cigarette smoking affects the way a body absorbs vitamins into the body. Many junk foods contain no nutritional value at all. Fast food restaurants serve food that is high in fat content and low in vitamins. Without the proper amount of vitamins in their diet, children do not grow to their full potential.

Some vitamins will affect how the body absorbs iron into the body. Milk is one of the food sources that hinder iron absorption. If people plan to take iron pills, then they will have to take them when milk is not being ingested. A two to three hour wait is sufficient between dosages.

People rely heavily on the US RDA requirements that are placed on many food packages to determine whether their dietary intake is sufficient to have a healthy life. People do not understand that US RDA requirements might be well below what your body actually needs to live and function properly. The scale that is listed on the food product packets and boxes might be for just one day of nourishment, not a yearly consumption level, or might not consider the total nourishment level different age groups might need to live a healthy life. <bio>Linda Polansky writes about http://www.vitaminsdietshop.com/ </bio>

If you keep up with health news you have heard about the benefits of calcium. Calcium is needed to keep you bones strong, it can help prevent osteoarthritis, it can aid in the treatment of arthritis, it benefits you heart and can help you loose weight just to name some. But what is the best way to get the calcium you need.

A new study in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggest that calcium from food sources may be absorbed better in the your body than calcium from supplements. Women with health diets had higher bone density than those who took in larger amounts of total calcium from supplements. The researchers in the study ask 133 postmenopausal to keep a record of their diet for a week. After that they had their bone mineral density checked.

There were three groups identified in the study.

and#61623; Women who received at least 70% of their calcium from food sources. and#61623; Women who received most of their calcium from supplements. and#61623; Women who had a balance of calcium from food and from supplements.

Interesting was that the women who took in the least amount of total calcium (830 milligrams) but got their calcium from a healthy diet had stronger bone density than women who took in a lager total amount of calcium (1030 milligrams) but got their calcium mostly from supplements. The women who got their calcium both from a healthy diet and from supplements had the highest bone density but also took in the highest amount of calcium (1620 milligrams).

The conclusion the authors made is that the best way to get your calcium is from food. I am not sure that the study supports this conclusion. Yes, the women who had a calcium rich diet but did not take a supplement had a higher bone density than those with a calcium poor diet but took calcium supplements. It is interesting to note that the women who did both had the highest bone density. This suggest that a calcium rich diet alone is not enough. The simple truth women are living longer after menopause than ever before and postmenopausal women need more calcium and if they do not take enough in then the body looks to bones to meet it's calcium needs.

I believe the conclusion should be make sure you have a good calcium rich diet and do not forget to take your calcium supplement. Doing both in combination should help keep your bones strong. <bio>Rusty Ford Editor http://arthritis-symptom.com/ </bio>

Need strong bones and teeth? Take enough calcium.

What is calcium?

Mainly, calcium is the most common mineral in our body. Calcium comprises 99% of the structure of your bones and teeth, while the remaining 1% is found in your blood and soft tissues. Calcium provides the needed strength and stiffness to the skeletal system so as to keep you around and to protect the internal organs as well.

Without enough calcium, your body would not be able to keep its constant cycle of rebuilding and growing of the bones so as to provide the required strength to hold up your body. Your body's need for the required calcium level changes very fast as it goes through different levels from childhood to adolescence stages.

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, the recommended calcium intake for adults over the age of 31 must consume 1000 mg everyday and this will go up to 1200 mg everyday for adults over 51 years of age.

Furthermore, if you have an insufficient intake of the required calcium level from foods, it is advised that you must take additional calcium. You can ask for an advice from your personal physician on how to get other calcium supplements. It's is proven that by taking the additional amount of calcium may decrease the risk of having osteoporosis, bone loss-in elderly men and postmenopausal women, and increasing the bone mineral density to children, adolescents, and adults.

You can get calcium in ample quantities in different kinds of food and other supplements like calcium tablets that can be purchased in drug stores. But before purchasing any calcium tablets for your calcium needs, better consult first a doctor.

Calcium tablets can help in adding the required calcium levels to your body as the National Institute of Health Consensus Panel is recommending the calcium intake as follows:

• The 1,000 mg per day must be consumed by men who are 25-65 years old, women who are 25-50 years old, and to women who are 51-65 years old that take estrogen.

• The 1,200 to 1,500 mg per day must be consumed by persons who are 11-24 years old and to pregnant and lactating women.

• The 1,500 mg per day is needed to those women who are 51-65 years old that is not taking estrogen and to everyone who are more than 65 years old.

So in taking your calcium tablets as additional supplement, your body structure will be as strong as ever. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
We eat everyday.

Others may prepare your food or you do it yourself. You use fresh foods to prepare your meal such as newly picked vegetables or unsullied meat products. There are times that you do not have the luxury of time to buy and carefully choose what is fresh and blemished. Henceforth, you run to the nearest shopping center and buy some canned goods.

Whenever you buy canned goods, seldom it is that you read the small labels written on the package. You barely read what the ingredients are. Did you know that there are some canned goods that contain calcium citrate? If you only read labels then you would know.

If our body needs salt, then citric acids also need salt. The salt of citric acids is termed as calcium citrate. Usually it is utilized as a food preservative or as food flavoring. However if you are to carefully discover the value of calcium citrate, you will know the following aspects.

These days many people are consulting their physicians due to calcium deficiency. Calcium citrate can help avert and to some extent, cure calcium deficiencies and other related conditions.

Potential Calcium Citrate Users You can take calcium citrate to fill the gap of any calcium deficit. Make sure though that you have verified with your physician the following conditions before taking calcium citrate:

1.If you are pregnant and plans to breastfeed.

2.If you have kidney illness and related health problems.

3.If you are taking other calcium-related vitamins. Additionally, convey to your physician if you have been taking antacids.

Proper Intake of Calcium Citrate Ensure that you have your physician's prescription and advise to take calcium citrate. By doing this you will avoid further health damage to yourself. Furthermore, it is also important for you to know proper intake of calcium citrate.

•Your physician will give you instructions on how to take calcium citrate. Make sure to follow them.

•Do not try to ingest calcium citrate directly without the help of water. It is recommended that you consume calcium citrate with a glassful of water.

•Unless directed by your physician, it is best to take calcium citrate after taking your meals.

Calcium citrate is not just an ordinary food preservative or flavoring, it is more to that. It helps you achieve the calcium that is needed by your body so you will have strong bones and a healthy well being. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
Natural saltwater contains myriad different substances at varying concentrations =96 this is what saltwater mixes for home aquariums try to reproduce as closely as possible. There are differences between brands of saltwater mixes, but the concentrations of elements are generally quite similar.

The elements contained in saltwater are essential to the health of your fish. As an aquarium runs through its cycles, however, essential minerals and nutrients tend to become depleted and need to be refilled through a water change or special aquarium supplements.

Not everyone needs to add supplements to their aquarium =96 it really depends on the situation. If you keep up with water changes and maintenance, and only keep fish, supplementation may not be necessary. This is because with each water change essential elements are automatically replenished. Coral reef tanks require supplements to keep the amount of calcium at a high enough level.

If you determine that your saltwater aquarium needs supplementation, using a test kit is essential so that you know exactly what's missing and how much needs to be added to the water. Also, adding too much of a particular element can cause problems for your fish. A mistake is not easy to fix, either. You'd have to do a full water change to remedy the oversight, causing a lot of stress for your fish.

There is still a lot of debate about supplementation because routine water changes are normally enough to replenish supplies and keep the tank running well, especially for fish only aquariums or fish and live rock aquariums. However, most experts do agree that for coral reef tanks, supplementing with calcium is beneficial. To keep the water alkaline in reef aquariums, you may also want to supplement with magnesium and Kalkwasser.

Calcium supplements are beneficial for tanks with clams, corals, and algae, as it helps them grow. For hobbyists who require a high level of calcium in their aquariums akin to the amount found in natural saltwater, it can be difficult to maintain the right quantity without adding supplements. There are some products on the market that dose aquarium water with calcium, or you can purchase diluted calcium chloride to dose the water. The latter method is more expensive, but easier. To avoid lowering the alkalinity of the water with liquid calcium, you may have to use a carbonate or bicarbonate as a buffer.

To maintain proper alkalinity, which needs to be around 2.5 meq/L (the alkalinity of natural saltwater) you may have to add kalkwasser (lime water) to the aquarium. This is calcium hydroxide =96 it must be added through doses. The process can be set up to occur automatically according to the pH levels in the water, or you can do it manually when you carry out water top-offs. You can also drip it slowly, directly into the aquarium.

Kalkwasser gives your aquarium a double whammy, adding calcium and maintaining alkalinity, so it has many benefits.

In the end, the choice to supplement is all in your hands. If you're planning to put together a reef aquarium, supplementation is a necessity to keep corals and any other invertebrates living in your tank healthy. <bio>Salty Supply Provides quality Aquarium Supplies at http://www.saltysupply.com </bio>

Many people have no idea about marine coral calcium, what are its health benefits. Or maybe it is their first time to encounter this term. However, what really is marine coral calcium?

Simply defined, it is considered as one of the best calcium supplements that were ever discovered. It is proven much better and finer than the other types of calcium supplements. The intensity of risks for taking such is also limited.

There are two different types of marine coral calcium with respect from where they originated. One type is called the fossilized calcium, which is commonly found washed up on seashore. The second type is called marine bed coral calcium that is obviously useful. It is derived from the bed area of the sea. Since it is found on the seabed, this is generally composed of corals. Moreover, it is potent and more effective than the fossilized calcium.

The two types of marine coral calcium are both being processed naturally and the normal motion of the waves of the sea is responsible for doing this. The process helps the corals to retain its organic elements and its minerals. This is the reason why the use of seabed corals calcium is more efficient than fossilized calcium.

One of the most significant elements on marine coral calcium is Magnesium. This element plays an important role for the marine coral calcium to do its job on our system. With proper ratio of coral calcium and the amount of magnesium, it will surely create an immense benefit on our health. Taking marine coral calcium as supplement everyday, as experts say would help us prevent degenerative diseases such as hypertensions, heart attacks and diabetes.

Adult people are advised to take marine coral calcium because this serves as a preventive ingredient against heart failures. It performs functions for neutralizing the processes within the system of a person.

Marine coral calcium can be considered as the best alternative calcium supplement. It has large extracts of minerals and organic elements, which comes from a very natural process and established to ward off common diseases that are the major cause of deaths nowadays.

So, why try to risk your lives on different diseases due to deficiency in calcium. Marine coral calcium is the best choice. Marine coral calcium is the key to your good health and a lifetime diet. Now that you know its significance, you can incorporate it in your diet. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy. It may be used only in its entirety with all links included.
Calcium is one of the most essential mineral needed to sustain life of a human body. Calcium has many functions like preventing the signs and symptoms of pre menstruation, reducing the possibility of hypertension, regulating muscle build up, strengthening the nerves as well and the most important use of calcium in the human body - maintaining strong bones and teeth. Adequate intake of calcium makes you free from the conditions like muscle spasms, absence of menstruation, hypertension, weak bones and teeth, improper heart function, disturbs the proper wound healing process and it slows down blood clotting. This is why you need to have adequate calcium intake everyday.

Aside from the human body, there are also things that need calcium. Would you believe that the aquarium needs it as well? If you continue reading this article, you will find out the use of calcium and calcium reactor in aquarium is crucial.

Calcium is not only needed by the body but the reefs as well. Calcium reactor is needed to maintain the calcium and alkalinity of the reef tank. You will need to maintain the right amount of calcium reactor in the reef to maintain its existence. The calcium reactor is needed for heavy stocks tank and stony corals because in this area calcium demands are increased.

Calcium reactor is also needed for the growth of many coralline algae. These coralline algae are very important part of the reef. The calcium reactor provides supply to the calcium by counteracting with CO2. It dissolves the media in the calcium reactor which releases the calcium in the water. The release of the calcium in the water stabilizes the pH level of the water. This is why calcium reactor is needed in water parts or in large aquariums as well.

If you are looking for a store where you can find calcium reactors, you do not have to worry about which one is to choose. There are plenty of calcium reactors sellers in your area.
Calcium is one of the most important minerals we need in order to sustain life. The function of calcium is to strengthen the human bone and teeth. This is why people with adequate intake of calcium are prevented to experience bone malformation and diseases.

Where can you get calcium? Almost all dairy products contain calcium. Samples of these dairy products include cheese, milk, yogurt and butter. Vegetables, meat, eggs and fruits are good sources of calcium as well. We need calcium everyday to supply the requirements of the body. If enough calcium is not taken, the bones will be open to many diseases and the bones will become weak in time. So, it is very important to have an adequate supply of calcium everyday.

What is the purpose of calcium to your body? It helps build the skeletal system and makes your bones healthier and stronger. Aside from the use of calcium to the bones, it is also essential to the functionality of nerves, responsible for blood clotting and muscle health as well. However, if is taken in small amount, it can also cause some health problems like hypocalcaemia but increased intake can reduce high blood pressure and eliminates pre menstrual symptoms.

Seaweed calcium is one among the most famous source of calcium. If you do not take enough calcium everyday, you need to take this particular supplement to maintain normal calcium in your body. This is very essential since people do not get much calcium from the food they eat everyday. This is ideal for men and women who are workaholic and do not spend much time watching about the food they eat everyday.

If you do not have adequate calcium intake you may suffer from the following conditions:

• The bone structure will be weak and more prone to fractures • It can cause severe nerve sensitivity, leg cramps and muscle spasm • It can induce improper heart function • It takes time for your wound to heal • It slows down the blood clotting • It weakens not only the bone but the teeth as well • You will experience gum problems like bleeding gums • Hypertension can occur

So, calcium is really important in the human body. You will need to supply your body with enough calcium everyday to survive life. The right dosage of calcium must be taken to avoid developing certain conditions that can cause death. Never overdose with calcium since it can also be harmful to health if introduced to the body in large amount. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
If you want optimum health, but you understand that you can't easily get it purely from the foods you eat, one very beneficial supplement is Coral Calcium.

You probably know that calcium is an essential mineral for all of us, especially for the strength of our bones. But did you know that it plays many vital roles in the body? Chief among them are: allowing the body to heal properly from wounds, promoting the healthy functioning of the heart, helping nutrients disperse across cell membranes, lowering blood pressure, and keeping bones and teeth strong. It is also extremely important in preventing osteoporosis which can go undetected for years, until one day a slip or fall could cause already weakened bones to easily fracture.

One reason I'm enthusiastic about coral calcium is because it's a highly absorbable form of calcium, proven by studies to be significantly better than milk or daily sources (and without the high amounts of undesirable saturated fats).

But what do I mean by coral calcium? Corals are tiny marine animals. Stony corals (which are one form of coral) living together as a group are generally known as coral reefs. Salts of calcium that are obtained from fossilized coral reefs are known as coral calcium. Coral calcium is acquired by grinding up limestone, which is found above the ground and was once part of the coral reef. Living coral reefs cannot be harvested because they are endangered. As well, coral calcium taken from deep sea deposits is likely to be quite polluted and its harvesting can have a negative environmental effect.

Calcium carbonate, small amounts of magnesium, and other trace minerals together constitute the Coral calcium.

The United States Surgeon General recommends women, children and men to consume an adequate amount of Calcium and Vitamin D to help build strong bones. Calcium can also help support proper muscle contractions and nerve functions. It is stated that 90% of all women and 60% of men in the U.S. do not get enough calcium in there diets.

So, coral calcium can play a huge part in correcting this deficiency, partly because it also contains magnesium and 70 other trace minerals that are needed in our daily diets.

It certainly seems to be a significant factor in the diets and thus the longevity of the native Okinawans (where most coral calcium is harvested), who have coral calcium as a regular part of their diet.

Okinawa has 10 times the number of centenarians as the U.S. Okinawans have far less incidence of coronary heart disease, strokes, and certain types of cancer than North Americans. They are often found in excellent health, and in full possession of their mental faculties into their 80's and 90's.

Of course there are other factors that help them keep their health to an old age, but their intake of coral calcium is a contributing factor.

Coral calcium can of course be taken in various forms, and I've found that the sachets that Coralcal Daily uses are an efficient, pleasant way to take it. In this form it purifies, alkalizes, and mineralizes your beverage without changing the color or taste. Simply drop a "tea bag" into your favorite non-carbonated beverage,

The sachets transform ordinary water or non-alkaline beverages into a calcium-charged powerhouse of delicious tasting, highly absorbent, and alkalized liquid to hydrate your body.

Besides the normal benefits of coral calcium, Coralcal Daily has some other benefits:

=95 Purified, mineralized beverages taste crisp and clean =95 It neutralizes chlorine in drinking and cooking water =95 It improves taste and quality of water and other beverages =95 It replenishes essential minerals absent in filtered and bottled water.

So, I may not become as healthy as an Okinawan resident tomorrow, but I do think that with regular use of coral calcium I'll make giant strides in that direction. <bio>Mike Vincent is a health food and health supplement expert and runs the website http://www.speedyhealthsupplements.com .
