If your cat goes outside it's a really good idea to use a collar. It lets other people know that the cat has a home, and if your cat should stray or get lost then the contact details on the collar will have you re-united with your cat in no time.

Deciding what cat collar to buy can be a more difficult choice than you think. Do you go with a flea control collar, a reflective collar, an elasticated collar, a buckle on collar, or no collar at all.

Do flea collars really work? My experience has been that they, but they don't hurt either so we can look at form and fit. Fit is the most important consideration when buying a cat collar. If the collar is too tight it can cut off the cat's air and blood supply. Choking your cat is not a good thing!! If it's too loose the collar can get caught up on branches and fences while your cat is out playing. Cats have an uncanny knack of getting out of any collar that's too loose. For kittens and still growing cats you'll want an adjustable collar to allow for some growth, but make sure you check the fit on a regular basis.

Most collars have 2 methods of fastening around the cat's neck. You have the traditional buckle style which is easy to put on and take off but the buckle can break. Then there is the slide through adjustable kind. This is a more secure way of fastening but it's also more difficult to adjust, especially if you have a cat that doesn't like having a collar on.

Most cat collars come with an elasticated or a breakaway section. This is a safety feature that allows your cat to escape the collar if it becomes stuck on bushes or fences. It helps avoid strangulation as well as being trapped. Even though a smart cat can figure out how to escape its collar, this is an important safety feature that you should seriously consider. Along these lines buy a collar made of a material that can be easily cut through in emergencies.

Another feature you may consider is a reflective strip in the cat collar. This can be helpful at night especially in areas that have a lot of traffic. The number one killer of cats is traffic so give the driver every chance to see your cat, especially if it's a dark colored cat.

Many collars come with bells or some other noise making device. This is designed to warn potential prey animals that your cat is out hunting. The idea behind these is to avoid your cat bringing home gifts and presents, especially ones that are still alive!! In the main these devices are ineffective and its usually best to remove them so there's less to get caught up in bushes and fences.

If you have an indoor cat that you'd like to introduce to the great outdoors, try buying a cat harness and attach a leash. You should first practice with this indoors until the cat becomes accustomed to it. The next step - take the cat for walks; to the park, to the beach, or to Aunty Jane's house! You can train your cat to use the leash but it will take some time, practice and a lot of patience. <bio>Mary Amos is a cat love and long time cat owner.
Akeisha wrote to me with some very good questions. I've included her letter (and my responses) below:

Hi,

It's Akeisha again.

I do see what you mean if it is on all the time the dog will soon forget it is on and then will behave regardless. Ok, so the dog never wears a buckle collar again? This is what irks me. I want to be able to control the dog regardless of what collar is on not just the pinch or it could be no collar at all and the dog still behaves. What if the owner for some reason takes off the collar then they put the buckle collar on for ID but then forget the pinch collar? Then there is no control.

[Adam Replies] WRONG! The dog gets conditioned. Take off the collar for awhile. Doesn't matter.

Do you ever in the training go back to the buckle collar after months of what you recommend with a dog that is happy with doing the commands?

[Adam Replies] Yes, the dog does the command because he is happy and he likes it. But eventually, there will be something that tempts him. This is where conditioning comes in.

Think of it like this: You've lived in the same house for 10 years, right? You get up in the middle of the night and you reach for the light switch that is to the LEFT of the door. Pretty soon, you get conditioned to reach out to the LEFT of the door.

One day you travel and stay in a hotel. You wake up in the middle of the night and reach out to the LEFT of the door for the switch... even though you cognitively saw that the switch is on the RIGHT.

In fact, you may wake up for several nights-- perhaps even weeks or months-- and still reach out to the LEFT, even though the switch is now on the right. Some people will continue reaching to the LEFT for the rest of their lives. Some will begin reaching to the right.

Those people need to be reinforced. Get it?

Motivational corrections if on the right dog won't frighten them or make them hate you I know but aren't there other ways except using the collar that will eventually be established thought training that will allow you to take the collar off and have control?

[Adam Replies] Yeah, this way you can take the collar off and have control, ONCE THE DOG IS CONDITIONED. But eventually you'll have to go back and reinforce, for most dogs. And definitely if you start expecting to work the dog around new distractions that it's never been proofed around, such as chickens if the dog has never seen chickens.

Look, I don't make the rules. The dog is not a robot that you can suddenly say, "He's done" and expect him to act consistently for the rest of his life. Like any relationship you have with another person, boundaries need to be established and maintained. The dog is like your wife or husband... they will eventually test you. :)

Last question, how can the dog not realize the don't have it on since it feels a lot different than the buckle? Its like my id around my neck at school I have gotten used to it but I do realize when it is off? Just for the record I have no problem with pinches, many members in my 4-H club use them and they work great on the right dog.

[Adam Replies] Because the way you should be using the pinch collar is that the dog (since he has limited reason and logic) does not KNOW that it is the pinch collar that allows you to give him good corrections. But it's more than the pinch collar. If I put the dog in a number of small yards, with no collar on .... and I'm able to chase him down and make him come back to me, if he doesn't come when I call... then the dog will learn THE UNDERLYING PREMISE that I can make him do it, if he doesn't. So, the pinch collar and the long line make my job easier, but ultimately, the dog knows (or he thinks at least) that I am a man of my word and when I tell him to do something: If he doesn't do it, I'm going to make him do it. And his life will be a lot more fun if he does it willingly. So the dog starts to extrapolate this principle to other commands, too.

Hope I am not being irritating I just like to know why certain trainers value certain methods over others since I love competing in obedience with my dog.

[Adam Replies] Keep training.

That's all for now, folks! One type of sling is called the "Ring Sling." These are baby slings that work through the use of dynamic tension, cloth and rings. Basically, a piece of cloth is sewn into two rings. The remainder of the cloth is then wrapped around the body from shoulder to opposing hip, around the back, up to the original shoulder again. As the loose end of cloth comes back to the shoulder, it is threaded through the rings to make kind of a buckle effect. The baby can be placed safely in the resulting sling.

Here is some interesting information about baby slings in the form of ring slings:

How A Ring Sling Holds Your Baby

Ring slings work through the use of dynamic tension. Basically, the baby's weight pulls, or puts tension on the cloth and this combined with the positioning of the rings locks the sling into place.

How To Adjust A Ring Sling

Because of the "buckle" effect of these baby slings, once put together, they can be adjusted for different sizes and shapes, allowing for different people to carry the baby in comfort. To adjust the sling, put the sling on and place the baby inside -- supporting the child with one arm. While doing this, have a companion adjust the "buckle" from behind to a comfortable position for you. Pulling cloth through the ring will tighten the sling and letting fabric out will loosen it.

To Pad Or Not To Pad

Baby slings of this type can come padded or unpadded. Typically, you will find pads at the shoulder for greater carrying comfort and also in the sling itself, forming a type of seat for the baby. It boils down to individual taste as to whether or not you want pads on your ring sling or not.

Type Of Fabric Used

Baby slings can be made from all types of material. Ranging anywhere from cotton to silk and everything in between, baby slings can be as beautiful as they are functional. The most common fabrics used in the construction of these slings are homemade fabrics, twill or anything with not only good strength, but also a fair amount of diagonal "give." Fabrics to avoid would be a very slippery fabric, as the baby needs to obviously be secure inside the sling without sliding out. Also, the material should not easily slide out of the rings. Finally, you want a fabric where strong stitching will hold the fabric in place without fear of fraying or tearing.

Ring Construction

Craft rings are strongly discouraged for baby slings, as they are not strong enough to hold this kind of weight in the long run and are prone to breakage. Rings that are ideal for this kind of carrier are aluminum marine rings or rings designed for heavy livestock. These types of rings are designed for much heavier weights and should not break with the daily use of your sling.

A well-constructed ring sling can be both beautiful and functional for the new parent. These tips can help you when purchasing one, so that you know what is safe for you and your baby.<bio>Pure and Honest Kids offers a great selection of baby slings.
Dog collars are an important accessory of man's best friend -- they include your dog's registration tags, ID, and even leads (for leashes). When looking for the right collar for your pet dog, it's nice to know you have lots of options. Here are some tips to guide your shopping.

You need to find a collar that will fit around your dog's neck exactly. And as long as this is the case, you can basically choose whatever color, pattern, or style you like.

For small dogs, pick out a collar that is neither too heavy nor too light. For puppies, a thin, leather collar or a soft, nylon collar is ideal. As for bigger, stronger dogs, wider and heavier collars are best. To make sure that a collar is the right fit on your dog, make sure you can squeeze at least two fingers in between the dog's neck and the collar. It should be a tight squeeze though, as you don't want to the collar to be too loose. Finally, you will want to cut off the excess length of strap because otherwise, the dog might chew it.

A snap-on type fastener is the most common replacement for buckle collars, because it makes for easy adjustment of a collar's length. As for choke collars, they are cool looking but shouldn't be used on younger puppies -- gentler, training collars are better.

Moreover, leather collars are long-lasting and are naturally softened by the oils of a dog's skin and they come in a variety of styles, widths, and colors. Nylon collars are washable and durable and are perfect for dogs that like to swim and for smaller dogs and puppies that need a softer touch. For bigger dogs, a nylon collar is okay, but it will need to be one with heavy webbing.

There are other collars that suit very specific kinds of dogs. For surfers, there are collars that are made out of the same material as wetsuits! And for those impatient dogs that pull on your leash during walks, head collars are the best option and are often used in training.
If you happen to work in law enforcement or other types of protective services, you will find that sometimes you need a good, old fashioned security belt. There are so many out there today that it is important to recognize what constitutes good belts and what should be avoided at all costs. These professional options allow you to get a bit closer to the perfection you need in your workplace experience. Whether your foreman or boss demands more, or you demand it of yourself, there is nothing likes finding the best in belts for your needs and your budget.

Good belts used to cost a small fortune. Today, even a security belt can be purchased at relatively low prices. The best thing is that if you know where to shop, you will not be negating the quality or the longevity of those belts you choose. Just because something claims to be the best does not mean you have to spend a whole weeks pay on that necessary part of your career. You can save money; you can look your best.

What is it with belts that make them such a cherished part of our culture?

Today more than ever, belts have made their way into our lives piece by piece. Times have changed, and with that change, the styles and types of belts we utilize has changed as well. Suspenders were popular a couple decades back as a replacement for belts because, yes, they were cheap in quality and high in price. Today, even a nice security belt will offer better things we all need for our lives. You will get a better buy, and of course, when you slip into your favorite pair of denim jeans, you will find belts offer a completion to the whole ensemble.

This is a style and type of belts you will appreciate if you need added protection. These excel at holding your pants up, but they do so much more too. The best type and style of belt is made of fine, top grade leather with a top split so you get a durable and rugged piece of material that will last you for years to come. In fact, you may just find you can pass to the younger generations who will learn to appreciate the best in working habits.

Whether you choose one or two of these popular fashions, you will find that they are customizable. Many of these will have a removable and customizable buckle. This means that you can appreciate and enjoy being able to add your special buckle to your favorite belts. You get to customize your experience, and that is going to make you more appreciative of your working experience as well as your day.

Another great reason people appreciate the heartiness of a good security belt is that they are affordable. Made from the finest materials on the planet, you will appreciate how little these do cost. You will get a perfect fit, look, and feel that will serve you well for years to come. Yes, you can get that much more when you choose nothing but the best.<bio>Click for more Work Apparel.
Learning to scuba dive was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Even these days, every time I go diving, the thrill is just like the first dive.

Along the way, many experienced divers have shared their own diving tips with me. Some other tips are gained from my own experiences -- usually after a bad one. Here are some of the tips to share with you.

When choosing a mask, it is best for you to try on the mask before buying. Put on the mask, and inhale through your nose. Make sure you don't have any hair stuck at the skirt of the mask. Hold your breath and see if the mask stays on and not fall off. Check to see if air is leaking into the mask. If the mask falls off, it usually means the shape of the mask skirt isn't suitable for your face shape. Try as many brands and models as possible.

Most new masks have a protective film on the window. This can cause fogging problems during your dives if the protective film isn't cleaned away. Before diving with a new mask, clean the window with a recommended cleaner liquid or defogging liquid. If you can't get hold of one, try rubbing some clothing powder detergent onto the window and soaking your mask in water mixed with clothing powder detergent and leave it overnight. I've had great experiences using this method. Cleaning your mask before the first dive is very important. I should know. I've dived at great dive sites but was so busy doing the "flood and clear the mask" manoeuvre to clear the fog that I didn't see very much, or just saw lots of blurry things at best.

On my dive trips, I've also found it useful to bring along some clothing powder detergent packed in a small pill container. I just clean my mask with detergent at the end of the day ready for the next day's diving. Great way to keep my mask crystal clear all throughout my dive vacation.

Have you ever felt the regulator in your mouth seeming to be pushing your mouth to the left during your dives? You know, the feeling that if you don't bite hard enough on the mouthpiece, the regulator might just get pushed out of your mouth? If you don't own an octopus with built in swivel at the regulator, or don't have a first stage swivel, you might experience this discomfort. One way to fix this is to buy and fit in a regulator 2nd stage ball swivel. Another way I found quite useful to me, is to turn the air tank slightly in the clockwise direction. As you assemble the Buoyancy Control Device (BCD) to the compressed air tank, with the BCD facing away from you, instead of having the K-valve face directly away from you, turn the tank clockwise by about 30 so that the K-valve is pointing slightly to the right before securing the BCD to the tank. You should be able to feel the difference.

If you regularly do boat and shore dives, I recommend that you get a pair of booties and open heel diving fins. Having booties on as you enter the sea from the shore will protect your feet from sharp corals and stones from cutting your feet. You can walk comfortably to a certain depth before putting your fins and begin your dive. On the boat, you will at least minimize your chances of slipping on the wet floor.

For open heel fins with those removable buckles, the best way to put on your fins is to slip the strap over your heels. While to take them off, by slipping the strap under your heels and removing the fins. I know this advise seems to make the buckle useless, but from my experiences and many other diver's experiences, the time we most often lose a fin strap or buckle is at the end of a boat dive when we take off our fins by unbuckling while in the water before getting on the boat. And finding a replacement strap or buckle while on an island dive trip can be somewhat frustratingly difficult.

At the end of your boat dive, when you take off your gear before climbing on to the boat, always take off your weight belt first, then your BCD and lastly, your fins.

I hope you find some of these tips as useful to you as it has been for me. Here's to wishing you a great diving experience on your next diving vacation. <bio>Jacob Mojiwat runs Sipadan Diving Vacation (http://www.SipadanDivingVacation.com), a booking service website for resorts on Mabul Island, the gateway to diving at Sipadan, Mabul and Kapalai Islands.
Scarf belts for that extra flair! Many women have been turning to new ways to accessorize their wardrobe and compliment their summer dresses and evening wear. Scarves and shawls have long been worn over the shoulders and around the neck as one way to do this, but lately the scarf belt has also become popular.

These accessories are basically what they sound like: worn around the waist. Generally they wrap around once or twice and then are either joined in the middle by a buckle or a knot so that the remainder of the scarf belt hangs loosely down the side, the front, or the back. These fashion statements can be knotted and dangling at the small of the back can look almost like a train for a gown and give a sense of elegance to the dress being worn.

A belt tied in front can give just the right detail to an otherwise plain colored dress and give that sense of motion and fluidity as a person walks. Less commonly, they can be tied and hanging from the side can set the dress apart from the norm and give that extra edge.

Strictly speaking, these scarf belts need to be made of relatively thin material or they end up adding bulk where slimness is desired and become cumbersome at precisely the place where agility is required. For this reason, silk and satin are popular fabrics for this type of clothing. One can also find sequined and crocheted varieties, as well as different types of synthetic fabrics.

The color and design needs to be chosen in relation to that which it will accessorize (That's why its important to have several). If it will be worn upon a decorative dress with a certain design then it will either need to match that design or be plainly colored to match and draw out one of the colors within the design of the dress. If it will be worn upon a plainly colored dress then it can add detail to the look by having a design or a complimentary color of its own.

Something else to consider when choosing and purchasing one is how exactly it is going to be worn around yourself. Some prefer to keep it simple and to loosely knot the it in the desired location. Others wish to have a buckle or a pin of some sort which can further accentuate the look of itself. Either way they will choose to have each side of it dangle at equal lengths or they will offset them for a less exact but no less fluid look.

Remember, its important to have several available (how about keeping them in your car?) so you can quickly and easily change your look to fit the impromptu occasion. Add a bright colored one when going out to meet friends at your favorite drinking spot. Guaranteed...you will be noticed. Or use a more subdued one to wear at work and on that important first date.

Regardless of how they are worn or what style and fabric in which they are made, scarf belts are a wonderfully versatile and elegantly beautiful way to add to any wardrobe and compliment what you are wearing. <bio>http://www.FashionScarvesAndShawls.com has quality scarf belts and shawls for every unique and important occasion.
Automobile accidents are responsible for the injury or death or thousands of children and young adults each year. Many of these events could be prevented by proper use of seat belts and other safety features of cars.

Outside of a car, it is important for children to know how dangerous moving vehicles can be. When playing outside, never chase balls or other objects into the street without looking for traffic, and never run between parked cars into the street as it is hard for drivers to see over them. Teaching children these behaviors at a young age is an excellent way to prevent accidents in the future.

In the car, there are a set of effortless rules that new drivers and young passengers should always follow. The way to prevent most serious injuries is to simply always buckle up. Even if no one else in the car is wearing one and the trip is just around the block, it is important to wear one regardless. In a case like this, it wouldn't hurt to insist that everyone else buckle up as well to ensure their safety.

When wearing a seatbelt, older children should be tall enough to sit without slouching with their feet on the floor. The lap-shoulder belt system will not fit most children until they are about 4'9" tall and weigh about 80 pounds. The lap portion of the belt should fit low and tight across the upper thighs, while the shoulder portion should fit over the shoulder and chest. Although it may be more comfortable, never put the shoulder belt under the arm or behind the back of the child.

Reckless behavior in and around automobiles is also a large contributor to the injury and death rate. Never stick arms, legs, or any other body part out of the window of a moving car. If another vehicle is passing too close it could cause serious injury. One of the most dangerous but easily preventable behaviors is drunk driving. Never try to drive after drinking, and never ride with anyone who has been drinking. It is important to always have a designated driver, or at least someone to keep keys hidden.

New and young drivers cause many of the accidents because they may have not yet learned how to handle a car properly, may drive at speeds to fast for the conditions, and are more likely to perform risky behaviors. Although they are commonly given a negative image, being a back-seat driver can save lives by telling a reckless driver to be more attentive or to slow down.

Concerning very young children, there is even more information to be aware of related to accidents and safety. Generally, the back seat is the safest place in a car accident, and any child under 12 years should ride there, especially if the vehicle has a passenger side are bag. Infants should be placed in rear facing car seats in the back seat until at least 1 year of age or around 20 lbs. Forward facing seats are acceptable after this point. In either case, always read the child restraint manual for proper and effective installation and use. It is recommended that children use a safety seat until at they are at least 40 pounds and then use a booster seat that will help the lap-shoulder system fit well.

It is important to remember that injury or death from an automobile accident can happen to anyone, not just children and younger drivers. Always promote safe behaviors near roads, behind the wheel, and also the lifesaving benefits of using safety belts and child safety seats correctly.

Copyright =A9 Schwebel Goetz and Sieben <bio>http://www.schwebel.com/ Minnesota Personal Injury Attorney and Lawyer Schwebel Goetz and Sieben offers legal services to Minneapolis MN car accident victims. </bio>

From its original leather material, saddle bags are now made out of synthetic material. There are different kinds of Saddle bags that can fit your needs.

An important part of the equine track, since the first saddle was invented, is a saddle bag. It is a great addition to your saddle. Since there are things that a person likes to carry with him, saddle bags are good for:
•	water bottles
•	rain coat
•	cell phones and others

Saddle bags are originally made from leather. At current, equine saddle bags are made out of synthetic material. Examples of these synthetic materials include:
•	Condura Nylon
•	Canvas

Some nice-looking saddle bags available have soft linings on the backside. An example of a soft-lining saddle bag is the Fleece. Soft lining bags are used in order to prevent the bag from chaffing your horse. With this, you can consider how much load you want to take before choosing a saddle bag for your horse or mule. Of course, choose the one that best fit your needs.
Trailmax Saddle Bag System also offers a removable cantle bag. This is very easy to pack and load. It is even lined with removable foam insuliners. This helps protect delicate baggage. When properly and securely attached, this bag will not slap against the horse's flanks.

Aside from this, it is made from 1,000 denier nylon with two sizes and six colors. The western saddlebags of TrailMax are also durable. You can use machine wash on it.

For the trail rider, a Synergist Saddles' saddle bag is appropriate for the conventional look. It comes in large or small sizes. It can fit with any Western or endurance saddles made by any manufacturer.

Large Saddle Bag
Measurement: 11" across with 5" gusset
Small Saddle Bag
Measurement: 8.5" across with a 3" gusset
Colors:
-	Black
-	Brown
-	Mahogany
-	Saddle Tan and
-	Natural

It is important to load your horse saddle bags on your saddle so as to be:
•	equal in size
•	equal in weight and
•	equal in weight distribution

Your horse saddle bags can have a heavy weight. Hence, it cannot adjust in the saddle like a rider.

Equal Size
TrailMax Horse Saddle Bags have equal sizes in their models. TrailMax Saddle Bags are of the same size on each side, regardless of the design or material.

Equal Weight
When loaded, make sure that each side of your horse saddle bags is within a few ounces of each other.

TrailMax Packers Scale is easy to:
•	read
•	lightweight and
•	designed to allow one person to weigh items without assistance

Equal Weight Distribution
It is important to balance your heavy stuff on both sides evenly. Riding saddles can make you slip to the heavier side if it is not evenly placed. Aside from this, it is uncomfortable and hazardous riding down the trail with a heavy saddle on one side.

Some horses can carry more than others can. Consider the following:
•	The size of the horse.
•	The conditioning of the horse.
•	The build of the horse.
•	The attitude of the horse.
•	The age of the horse.
•	The size, fit, and weight of saddle.
•	The ability of a saddle to distribute weight.
•	The weight of the rider.
•	The design of the horse saddle bags
•	The distance of the ride
•	The weather

The horse can carry load better over the front quarters as compared to behind the saddle. You can use horn bags for heavier gear like:
-	Water
-	Camera
-	binoculars and others

The Cavalry Style Western Saddlebags
These saddlebags are handcrafted. It can outlast any other saddlebag available. Cavalry Style Western Saddlebags are available in two styles:
•	Three-buckle full size or
•	Two-buckle size

The TrailMax Pommel Pocket
This little gear bag is good for those little things you need closer to you. It will fit over your horn bags as well.

The Economy Western Saddlebags
It is made from the same 1,000 denier nylon with a Velcro flap closure. These saddle bags are simple but heavy duty. It is machine washable. It has removable foam insuliners that protect your baggage. It is attached to the saddle's front rigging, along with leather tie straps. Thus, it also has grommets for saddle string attachment.<bio>For more information on Saddle Bags please visit our website.</bio>

Dogs are definitely man's best friend. It is very easy to see this today, because of the fabulous lives they lead. Who would not want to lie around all day, get scratched behind the ears, and eat all of the good food that humans get to eat on a daily basis? Not only do they get all of these wonderful things, but they also do not have to go to work, cook dinner, or clean the house. I would give anything to be a dog. If this was not bad enough, while visiting the mall I saw that dogs have quite a few accessories available to make their lives even better.

The only accessory that a dog had when I was growing up was a collar, if they were lucky. These collars were nothing fancy, usually just a piece of leather with a buckle on it to allow you to adjust it as the dog grew larger. Now I see collars in every shape, size, and color, and with all different kinds of decorations on them. I have seen collars with the dog's name on them, collars with gemstones on them, and even collars that will play a song when the dog scratches them. These collars are ridiculous, but they are not even the most outrageous extravagance that has been created for dogs lately.

Now a dog has the luxury of sleeping in a nice and soft bed. When I was a child our dog slept on our cold, hard tile, and she liked it just fine. Our dog now has a big fluffy denim bed that is more comfortable than the bed I sleep on. Dogs also have many different types of clothes for them to wear. My dog wears a sweater and actually has a jacket that she wears in the winter so she does not get cold. Whatever happened to dogs growing their winter coat so that they would not get cold? The warm clothes are bad enough, but now dogs have dresses, Halloween costumes, and even feather boas. What is this world coming to? I am not sure, but as long as my wife and others like her are shopping for dog accessories, I am sure that manufacturers will not stop making them! Now if I could just get her to buy ME such nice luxuries... <bio>Visit http://www.hotdiggidydog.co.uk and treat your pet like royalty with our selection of dog collars, dog beds, dog clothes, cat beds and more! </bio>

The forehand drive is the opening of every offensive in tennis, and, as such, should be most carefully studied. There are certain rules of footwork that apply to all shots. To reach a ball that is a short distance away, advance the foot that is away from the shot and thus swing into position to hit. If a ball is too close to the body, retreat the foot closest to the shot and drop the weight back on it, thus, again, being in position for the stroke. When hurried, and it is not possible to change the foot position, throw the weight on the foot closest to the ball http://www.york7.com

The receiver should always await the service facing the net, but once the serve is started on the way to court, the receiver should at once attain the position to receive it with the body at right angles to the net.

The forehand drive is made up of one continuous swing of the racquet that, for the purpose of analysis, may be divided into three parts:

1. The portion of the swing behind the body, which determines the speed of the stroke.

2. That portion immediately in front of the body which determines the direction and, in conjunction with weight shift from one foot to the other, the pace of the shot.

3. The portion beyond the body, comparable to the golfer's "follow through," determines spin, top or slice, imparted to the ball.

All drives should be topped. The slice shot is a totally different stroke.

To drive straight down the side-line, construct in theory a parallelogram with two sides made up of the side-line and your shoulders, and the two ends, the lines of your feet, which should, if extended, form the right angles with the side-lines. Meet the ball at a point about 4 to 4 1/2 feet from the body immediately in front of the belt buckle, and shift the weight from the back to the front foot at the MOMENT OF STRIKING THE BALL. The swing of the racquet should be flat and straight through. The racquet head should be on a line with the hand, or, if anything, slightly in advance; the whole arm and the racquet should turn slightly over the ball as it leaves the racquet face and the stroke continue to the limit of the swing, thus imparting top spin to the ball.

The hitting plane for all ground strokes should be between the knees and shoulders. The most favourable plane is on a line with the waist.

Never step away from the ball in driving cross court. always throw your weight in the shot.

The forehand drive from the left court is identically the same for the straight shot down your opponent's forehand. For the cross drive to his backhand, you must conceive of a diagonal line from your backhand corner to his, and thus make your stroke with the footwork as if this imaginary line were the side-line. In other words, line up your body along your shot and make your regular drive. Do not try to "spoon" the ball over with a delayed wrist motion, as it tends to slide the ball off your racquet.

All drives should be made with a stiff, locked wrist. There is no wrist movement in a true drive. Top spin is imparted by the arm, not the wrist.

The backhand drive follows closely the principles of the forehand, except that the weight shifts a moment sooner, and the R or front foot should always be advanced a trifle closer to the side-line than the L so as to bring the body clear of the swing. The ball should be met in front of the right leg, instead of the belt buckle, as the great tendency in backhand shots is to slice them out of the side-line, and this will pull the ball cross court, obviating this error. The racquet head must be slightly in advance of the hand to aid in bringing the ball in the court. Do not strive for too much top spin on your backhand.

I strongly urge that no one should ever favour one department of his game, in defence of a weakness. Develop both forehand and backhand, and do not "run around" your backhand, particularly in return of service. To do so merely opens your court. If you should do so, strive to ace your returns, because a weak effort would only result in a kill by your opponent.

Do not develop one favourite shot and play nothing but that. If you have a fair cross-court drive, do not use it in practice, but strive to develop an equally fine straight shot.

Remember that the fast shot is the straight shot. The cross drive must be slow, for it has not the room owing to the increased angle and height of the net. Pass down the line with your drive, but open the court with your cross-court shot.

Drives should have depth. The average drive should hit behind the service-line. A fine drive should hit within 3 feet of the baseline. A cross-court drive should be shorter than a straight drive, so as to increase the possible angle. Do not always play one length drive, but learn to vary your distance according to your man. You should drive deep against a baseliner, but short against a net player, striving to drop them at his feet as, he comes in.

Never allow your opponent to play a shot he likes if you can possibly force him to one he dislikes.

Again I urge that you play your drive:

1. With the body sideways to the net.

2. The swing flat, with long follow through.

3. The weight shifting just as the ball is hit. <bio>http://www.networking3.com </bio>

Today wood flooring is making a great comeback for many years people have been replacing or covering there wood floors with carpet. Today's choices in wood flooring have never been greater we will examine several differences between a solid wood flooring that was the staple for many years compared with the advantages and disadvantages of a laminate wood flooring.

Solid wood flooring has a few advantages over laminate. The first advantage is that it can be refinished over and over But has a floor becomes worn scratched or damage they can be sanded out stained and you have a new floor. A solid wood floor will truly last for a lifetime. A laminate floor which is constructed not of solid wood but has a fiberboard type base and a laminate covering that mimics real wood. A laminate floor will resist scratching but cannot be refinished. Although laminate flooring will last many years if it is damaged it will need to be replaced.

As a rule solid wood flooring is much more expensive than laminate flooring it is also much more expensive to install because it requires much more labor. The solid wood flooring usually comes in strips approximately 2in. wide each strip has to be laid down individually and nailed in place with a special pneumatic flooring nailer. The whereas laminate flooring can be put down in larger sections the section simply snap together and can be put down rather quickly the typical homeowner can easily lay laminate flooring down in a weekend with only basic tools.

Laminate flooring however cannot tolerate a lot of moisture what happens is that the fiberboard backing on the laminate flooring will absorptive the water And swell the swelling will cause the floor to buckle the only recourse is to replace the floor. The solid wood flooring on the other hand will tolerate much more moisture. But if you're not sure which way you would like to go with your new flooring solid wood or laminate I would advise that you go to your local home center or better yet a dedicated flooring store If they will be able to answer any questions you might have they will be happy to show you how to install your new flooring and they can even recommend some highly qualified contractors to install you flooring if you do not want to do it yourself. Whatever type of new flooring you decide on the warm classic look of real wood will add the feeling of warmth to your home. <bio>Megan Cherry writes for http://www.pegandrail.com </bio>

You are walking along when you see a suspicious looking character coming towards you. You adjust the hold on your umbrella or walking stick and prepare to defend yourself.

Aware of the need to protect yourself, as he approaches you suddenly hit out and break his head.

Good!

No! Bad! Very Bad!

The result? He lands up seriously sick in hospital.

And you end up seriously sick in jail!

Until proven otherwise, he is doing no wrong walking where he is. He has not at that point actually offered you harm. He is simply an innocent A.N.Other fully entitled to walk where he chooses, as long as it interferes with no-one.

You observe the possibility of an attack. Take several steps well to one side out of his direct path. If he simply continues on his way, on his original path, all well and good. No problem. He is (probably) not going to mug you.

But if now he changes direction towards you, the situation alters. You are under direct and immediate threat. You are in fear for your life. If you don't take command you will end up mugged or raped.

With your weapon at the ready =96 that is, prepared to deliver an `invisible attack' into his face =96 call out to him "Stay There! Don't come any closer!"

If he continues towards you he is about to enter your Personal Space. He is offering you violence. His hand is declared and he means to attack you. If he hits you, you are finished.

As he comes into range of your particular weapon, with absolutely no warning hit him in a major target. Like the chops, the temple, the eye. In such a manner and with such force that his knees will buckle and he will sag down in front of you. WHACK!

If necessary, to secure the situation, hit him again (and again and again=85) till you are manifestly safe, out of danger and beyond his ability to get up catch you and kill you.

If you attack him without reasonable excuse, you will be arrested. If he attacks you (and there are no witnesses) he will probably get away with it.

ALWAYS establish your legality by giving this mandatory warning:

"Stay There! Don't come any closer!"

Then =96 WHACK!

"It's not over till it's over =96 and even then it may not be!"

(14th Precept of sutekki-shin-jutsu) <bio>John Roberts-James is a Black Belt 4th Dan, a Senior Coach and author of many practical books on personal protection. http://www.personalprotectionpublications.co.uk </bio>
