Ladies, if your mother or any other female blood-line relatives have a history of breast or ovarian cancer then from next year onwards, you could face higher insurance premiums. You could even be refused cover altogether.

When these women apply for life and critical illness cover, the insurance industry wants to ask them whether they have been tested for the gene mutations BRCA1 or BRCA2. These are the gene complications that increase the chances of them developing these cancers. But before the insurance companies can ask these questions on their application forms, they must get approval from the Genetics and Insurance Committee, the body that advises the Government on these and similar issues.

In the coming months the Association of British Insurers (ABI) will be requesting the Committee for authority to ask women whether they have been tested positive for BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations. These are the mutations that are present in 1 in 10 of newly diagnosed cases of ovarian cancer and 1 in 20 of new cases of breast cancer. Approximately 1 in 850 women in Britain inherit a faulty BRCA1 gene and of those, 14 -- 18% will develop breast cancer during in their lives.

On the web site for the Genetics and Insurance Committee we found a notice saying, " The Committee expects that the Association of British Insurers will submit in late 2006/2007 four revised and updated applications for the use of adverse results from the predictive genetic tests of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes (breast/ovarian cancer) in helping to determine insurance premiums for life and critical illness insurance".

So far, application forms issued by British insurance companies are only allowed to ask for the results of predictive tests for Huntington's disease. Even then, the question can only be asked when the application is for more than £500,000 of life insurance cover or mote than £300,000 for critical illness insurance or over £30,000 for payment protection insurance. This rule is set under an agreement entered into by the insurance industry which is due to expire in 2011 but the Chairman of the ABI's Genetics Working Party, Harpal Karlcut, is reported in the trade insurance magazine "Cover", as saying: -

"We are looking to get approval for the breast cancer test by the end of the year", adding, "The two breast cancers are the next conditions that we will look at but after that we don't see the need to look at other conditions. We do keep an eye out for what diseases may come up in the future but there is nothing else on the horizon". We add another important rider -- yet! About The Author: Express http://www.express-life-insurance.co.uk specialise in life insurance quotations but also offer both critical illness cover - http://www.express-life-insurance.co.uk/what-is-critical-illness-insurance.htm and life assurance policies.
If you have been a person who has previously had cancer and wants to go on an overseas holiday, you may find that you have your work cut out for you when it comes to finding an affordable travel insurance policy.

In fact, there are some insurance firms which will not offer any insurance at all to those who have had or do have cancer. Of the companies that do offer insurance, they sometimes charge you more than the cost of your flights. For instance, one company, Free Spirit, charges a 48-year-old woman who had breast cancer five years ago £248.70 for a 17-day worldwide policy. Compare this to someone without any health concerns where the insurance costs are as little as £20.

This example has been backed up by a recent survey conducted by the charity 'Cancerbackup' which reveals that nine in ten people struggle to get travel insurance if they have had cancer. Even if people are fit to travel, seven in ten are offered policies with sky high premiums or else refused insurance all together, the survey suggests.

And so as a result of insurance problems, one in 20 people linked to cancer choose to travel without insurance. One in ten, as a result, cancel their trip.

But there is now, perhaps, some hope. As a result of the survey conducted by 'Cancerbackup', the Association of British Insurers (ABI) is investigating whether companies are in fact discriminating against cancer sufferers. The association says it also wants to make sure the 'Cancerbackup' survey results have not put people off taking out travel insurance all together before going on holiday. A spokesperson for the charity Macmillan Cancer Support calls for this sort of probing saying: "The insurance industry needs to recognize that not all cancers are the same and treat people accordingly."

Cancer as a disease itself is so grueling for people it is only natural many of them want to give themselves a relaxing overseas holiday when their treatment is finished. And rightly so says, one of the firms that does offer cancer suffers insurance -- Medi Travelcover.

A spokesperson for the company says the extra costs for the insurance are worth it because when someone is feeling low, a holiday can be just what they need. The company says it has sympathy with people who are refused travel insurance outright.

"Being refused insurance can have a terrible impact on their morale", the spokesperson says.

When it comes to life insurance or private medical insurance it is quite understandable how someone might be refused the opportunity to take out cover. But then it seems crazy that someone who has had cancer a long time ago cannot get any reasonably priced medical insurance for a straight forward holiday. The situation is likely to become more of an issue too, with one million people having been diagnosed with cancer sometime in their life. So it is no wonder the Association of British Insurers is now doing some probing about the situation -- some might argue that the probing has not happened soon enough.

Websites which offer more information include the Cancerbackup website (www.cancerbackup.org.uk) and Cancer Research website (www.cancerresearchuk.org/). <bio>New and up to date articles from insurance minimarket http://www.insurance-minimarket.co.uk </bio>

Britons are drinking too much, shout the headlines. Out of those who live in Great Britain, two thirds say they drink to excess at least once a week and almost a quarter hurt themselves while they are intoxicated. This is according to a report by the Drink Aware Trust and the British Chiropractic Association.

But binge drinking is not just a health issue, but a financial one as well. It hits you not just in the pocket through the excess weekly spending on alcohol, but it can drive up the cost of your Life Insurance premiums too.

Talk to the Association of British Insurers and they will tell you that in fact yes, years and years of heavy drinking will be taken into account when calculating your premiums on your life insurance policy. On the Life Insurance application form a questions asks about your alcohol and tobacco consumption. And as with all sorts of insurance products, the underwriting is done at the point of your application.

You might think you can get away with not declaring the fact that you have been drinking excessively for a certain period of time. After all, no one is really going to know when you die right? And of course, you plan to cut down your alcohol consumption in the years to come. Yet a spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers says that it is best to tell the truth. If you die, the medical experts can often tell from the post mortem examination if you are someone who has been drinking for a time frame that extends back before you made your life insurance application. They can refuse to pay out if you did not reveal the truth about your drinking at the time.

The spokesperson says: "The point here, as with any deliberate non disclosure, is there is a strong chance that if you do put down something that is not accurate on your application form and if you do have to claim on that policy, the insurance company may say that your policy was rendered invalid because you deliberately failed to disclose something."

However, if you develop an alcohol problem after you have made an application for Life Insurance you are most certainly entitled to a policy payment. He adds: "Your death might be related to some sort of alcohol consumption issue, in which case the policy will pay out. It is only things that are such at the time that you apply that are taken into account."

Most insurance firms ask you to disclose your average weekly consumption of alcohol, asking how many units of alcohol you consume each week. But this does depend on the individual company. Most look at the NHS guidelines with respect to deciding what is a normal and safe level of alcohol to consume and what is considered to be potentially dangerous. The firm will weight their premiums accordingly.

Direct Line insurance company charges a 30-year old who does not drink monthly Life Insurance premiums of £14.88. For someone who does drink the payment is £15.37. Over the years, this can make quite a difference.

A spokesperson for the ABI says alcohol consumption is one of a number of factors insurers will look at when they are establishing whether or not to take on an insurance risk and what the level of premiums for that person will be.

"From a public health perspective, there will be medical practitioners within insurance companies who will have concerns about this issue," he says. But he goes on to add: "The insurance companies must look at that factor dispassionately as they do with all of the other factors that they look at when they are calculating premiums." <bio>Get great articles on life insurance from life insurance shop http://www.life-insurance-shop.co.uk </bio>

UK mortgage payment protection insurance is one of the best things to happen to the mortgage industry in the last few years. However, high street banks and lenders recognised an opportunity to make a profit when they saw one, and this often clouds the general public's judgement of the product. Many dismiss UK mortgage payment protection insurance before probing into it as far as they should to see what it ca actually do for them.

UK mortgage payment protection insurance is a protective policy that will pay out for up to 24 months' if an individual is sick, injured as the result of an accident or involuntarily unemployed. All three situations would result in an individual being unable to work for a period of time and thus would jeopardise the financial security of a household in the ensuing months, if not years. It would certainly mean that it would be a struggle to keep up with mortgage repayments.

UK mortgage payment protection insurance will pay the mortgage and related bills, such as home and contents insurance, for the period of time laid out in the terms and conditions of the policy. Anybody over the age of 18 and up to the age of 64 is eligible for UK mortgage payment protection insurance as long as they work over sixteen hours a week. This ensures that the majority of main wage earners are completely covered, and it is often them paying the mortgage and related bills.

There are many advantages and benefits to having UK mortgage payment protection insurance. It is an essential product these days and is most definitely worth its weight in gold to those who need it. Even if you hope that you will never need to use it, UK mortgage payment protection insurance is worth investing in just in case. <bio>Simon Burgess is Managing Director of the award-winning British Insurance (http://www.britishinsurance.com), a specialist provider of low cost income payment protection insurance (PPI), mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) and loan payment protection insurance. </bio>

Unemployment insurance can be a great asset to have in a world where nothing is certain. While you might right now be financially comfortable now, if you have taken on a loan or credit cards and were to suddenly find yourself out of work due to sickness, unemployment or an accident for any length of time then you could be left struggling to meet the monthly repayments.

Unemployment insurance is definitely worth considering and, even better, cheap unemployment insurance is worth buying. However, good value insurance can be hard to find and especially if you consider taking the insurance from the high street banks and lenders. In fact, you should beware of the high street lender when it comes to buying unemployment insurance as a high street lender is more likely to give you a quote which is way over the odds in comparison to a standalone provider.

A standalone provider can save you money on your premium but not only this; it is the safest way to ensure that you don't buy a policy that you cannot possibly claim on. The specialist provider has the expertise when it comes to insurance such as this as very often they specialise in only this type. You don't buy your food from a garage or your car from a supermarket, you go to those in the know and no one knows more about unemployment insurance than a specialist unemployment insurance provider.

A good quality cheap unemployment insurance policy can pay out for up to a period of 12-24 months after you come out of work for a specified amount of time and it can be a financial lifeline. If you are suffering an illness or are unemployed, then you don't want the added stress of worrying about when the next loan repayment is due and how you are going to pay it. Shop around for cover and go to a specialist to get the peace of mind you deserve, whilst making great savings. <bio>Simon Burgess is Managing Director of the award-winning British Insurance (http://www.britishinsurance.com), a specialist provider of low cost income payment protection insurance (PPI), mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) and loan payment protection insurance. </bio>

Thousands of women with family histories of breast and ovarian cancer could pay higher insurance premiums or even be denied cover altogether under new proposals from the insurance industry.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) is expected to lodge an application for permission for its members to ask women whether they have been tested for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations.

The faulty BRCA genes are responsible for about five per cent of the 41,700 new cases of breast cancer and 10 per cent of ovarian cancers diagnosed in Britain each year.

If the insurers are granted permission by the Genetics and Insurance Committee (the organisation that advises the Government on the issue), women who have tested positive could be forced to pay higher premiums. Some companies may even refuse high value life or critical illness insurance.

A notice published on the GIC's website said, "The Committee expects that the Association of British Insurers will submit in late 2006/2007 four revised and updated applications for the use of adverse results from predictive genetic tests of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes (breast/ovarian cancer) in helping to determine insurance premiums for life and critical illness insurance."

At present, the only predictive genetic test the committee has allowed insurance companies to ask about is for Huntington's Disease. This is because of the lack of environmental influences on its development.

However, across Europe, several countries have banned insurers from using genetic tests to decide premiums. Also, in 2005, a voluntary agreement to avoid using such tests by British insurance companies was extended until 2011.

Under this agreement, insurers can ask potential customers only about genetic testing results for Huntington's Disease. However, they can only ask for the information for policies that are worth more than £500,000 for life insurance, more than £300,000 for critical illness and more than £30,000 a year for payment protection.

But the association's genetics working party has indicated that it would like to bring about a change seeking permission to ask about two cancer genes and wants approval by the end of the year.

Approximately one in 850 women in Britain inherits a faulty BRCA1 gene. Those women will have a 14 to 18 per cent chance of developing breast cancer at some point in their lives.

Meanwhile insurers are not allowed to ask prospective policyholders if they have HIV, but they can ask them if they have exposed themselves to the risk of infection through unsafe sex or sharing needles.

An alliance of 45 leading charities, unions, scientists and lawyers have called on the Government to ban this genetic discrimination.

A study carried out by the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer found 28 per cent of women with a family history of breast cancer said the would be deterred from having a genetic test if insurers had access to the results. <bio>Get great articles on life insurance from Life Insurance Quotes http://www.life-insurance-quotes.me.uk </bio>

In about every four in ten cases when someone applies for Life Insurance, the insurer has to obtain a medical report from a General Practitioner.

They need the reports when someone has declared that they have a medical condition on their life insurance application form. The applicant then has to give consent that the insurance company can gain a medical report from their GP. The GP gets called on to supply information about the specifics of that medical condition and any other relevant information.

But despite the fact that these are often costly to get hold of for insurance companies, there have been cases where GPs have not been supplying the quality information that they need. In some cases, they simply print out the computerised records of their patients and send them to the insurers.

This is not just a problem because insurers have paid the doctors to supply specific reports, but that this approach means that they often do not get the specific information they need. And on top of this, the GP winds up breaching their patient's confidentiality because the insurance company gets extra information about the applicant's medical state that they do not need to know. It is a situation both the British Medical Association (BMI) and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) would not want to occur and goes against the agreement between both parties that medical information could be obtained for the purpose of Life Insurance applications.

But because of concerns, a new agreement between both the BMI and ABI has been made where GPs have to provide high quality reports to the insurance companies for fees that will consistently rise by 6% over five years.

The fees were re-set as part of the negotiation process for reports, supplementary reports and medical examinations.

An ABI spokesman for health insurance says that the reports help people to gain much needed health insurance, such as life insurance policies that they would otherwise not normally be able to obtain. "This agreement is good news for customers because again the BMA has pledged to uphold high standards from doctors. This includes making sure that doctors fill in forms personally and accurately, rather than simply sending printouts of medical records, which does not give the insurer the information that it needs," he says. "The deal provides both stability and certainty."

For a GP report that needs to be obtained in the year from 2006 -2007, the cost is £74.70. That increases to £79.20 for the next year and £84.00 after that. For a supplementary report the cost increases from £19.10 this year, to £20.20 the year after that and £21.40 for the year after that again.

And medical examinations will this year cost £82.20, increasing to £87.10 in the year after that and then £92.30 in the following year.

The BMA tells GPs as part of the guidance in the new agreement that they need to recognise that life assurance is a "social good" and of benefit to patients at significant points in their lives. And that, as with other fee paid work, the reports should be completed thoroughly to justify the fees. <bio>Get great articles on life insurance from life insurance underwriters http://www.life-insurance-underwriters.co.uk . </bio>

UK mortgage protection insurance can provide you with a safety net on which to land if you should find yourself out of work due to suffering from an accident, suffer from sickness or find yourself unemployed by way of redundancy.

While the UK mortgage protection insurance cover can give you great peace of mind you do have to make sure that a policy would be in your best interests. Your mortgage is your biggest outlay each month and it is important that you keep up with the repayments because getting behind on them means that you are putting your home at risk. Repossessions and unemployment are on the increase and if UK mortgage protection insurance would be suitable for your needs then it can ease the worry about where you would find the money to keep the roof over your head if you did lose your income.

Mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) would begin to payout once you have been out of work for a set amount of time which varies from provider to provider. The cover can start paying out once you have been out of work for 31 days or it could be as long as the 90th day so check this out when you check out the small print and the exclusions.

The exclusions are what can stop you from being eligible to claim against a UK mortgage protection insurance policy and you have to understand them, or you could buy a policy that you couldn't claim against. Some of the most common include being in part time employment, retired, or if you suffer from an ongoing medical condition.

When looking for UK mortgage protection insurance shop with a specialist provider as they can get you the best deals and among the cheapest premiums along with offering you the advice you need to ensure that you make the right decision regarding the suitability of the UK mortgage protection insurance. <bio>Simon Burgess is Managing Director of the award-winning British Insurance (http://www.britishinsurance.com), a specialist provider of low cost income payment protection insurance (PPI), mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) and loan payment protection insurance. </bio>

Luckily there are other options when it comes to taking out cheap mortgage insurance and the cheapest quotes can be found when you choose to go independently to a specialist for your cheap mortgage cover.

Not only will you get cheap mortgage insurance when you go independently but you will also get sound advice when it comes to the key facts and the exclusions within a mortgage payment protection insurance policy. When taken out correctly cheap mortgage insurance can give you peace of mind that if you should find yourself out of work after suffering from an accident, or sickness or through unemployment such as redundancy, then you would still be able to pay your mortgage repayments.

Providing you fit the bill for the requirements of a policy then the cover would begin to provide you with a tax free income each month to ensure that you keep the roof over your head.
If you have loan repayments to make each month and worry how you would continue to repay them if you should suddenly lose your income through having time off work due to accident, sickness or becoming unemployed, then loan protection insurance is the solution.

A loan protection insurance policy would give you an income with which you could continue to meet your loan repayments each month after you had been out of work for a certain length of time. The waiting period for claiming depends on the provider and this can be from the 31st day of being out of work right up to the 90th day and the majority of policies are then backdated to day one. Once the policy has started then it would continue to give you a tax free income for up to 12 months and with some providers for up to 24 months.

All loan protection insurance policies do have reasons which can stop you from claiming against them and some of the usual include if you are suffering from an illness or have been within the last 2 years, if you are retired or if you only work in part time employment. It is essential that you do check the exclusions in any loan protection insurance policy you are interested in as exclusions can vary slightly from provider to provider.

Loan payment protection insurance can help to stop you from getting into debt and the best way to purchase the cover is with a standalone provider who can not only offer you some of the cheapest premiums for the cover but also the advice that you need to be able to make an informed decision regarding the suitability of loan protection insurance for your circumstances before you buy the product. If you are in doubt over the policy's suitability then always be sure to take advantage of the specialist's expertise and ask questions. <bio>Simon Burgess is Managing Director of the award-winning British Insurance (http://www.britishinsurance.com), a specialist provider of low cost income payment protection insurance (PPI), mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) and loan payment protection insurance. </bio>

There is always the right way and easy way to do things in life. Then there is the wrong way and the hard way and when it comes to purchasing your mortgage insurance, this is no exception. Sadly, the majority of people who buy mortgage protection do things the wrong way; these people purchase their mortgage insurance alongside their loan from the high street lender or their bank. Now if you were to go about things the right and easy way then you would go shop around and go to an independent specialist for your mortgage insurance.

An independent specialist can in most cases offer you cheaper premiums for your cover while making sure that you understand what the policy entails. And as a standalone provider usually just specialises in payment protection insurance, they can give you the best information and point you in the right direction.

Another factor is that sadly the majority of those who buy their policy from the high street lender do so through ignorance - they simply don't know they can go independently for the cover.

Mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) is purchased in order to protect your monthly mortgage outgoings, as these will be considerable. Many people have stretched their budget to the limit already and if they should find themselves out of work for any period of time due to redundancy, illness or accident, the mortgage would still have to be paid. This could leave many wondering where to get the money from. Of course, if you have mortgage cover then this will kick in after a predefined period of time and allow you to meet the repayments for your mortgage as well as any associated costs such as home insurance.

When it comes to buying your mortgage insurance, make sure you do it the right way. It is essential that you shop around for cover and fully understand what the cover entails.
The number of UK residents how now have overseas homes is steadily on the increase. In some cases these overseas homes are for holiday purposes, such as with Spain, in other cases they're bought for the purpose of spending at least part of the time of the owner's retirement, such as with Cyprus. Either way, more often than not the British owner of the home would prefer not to have the overseas home insured by an offshore insurance provider, but rather by an insurance provider closer to home.

So, if you have an overseas home and would like a UK home insurance company to provide you with insurance, what can you expect to get?

Home Contents and Home Buildings Insurance

A number of providers of overseas home insurance policies have merged the home contents and home insurance policies to be an amalgamated overseas home insurance policy. This mega policy should cover you for both circumstances.

Public Liability Insurance

Should be a must, especially if you are considering renting the overseas home out for the part of the year that you are not there.

Lost Earnings

If you think that renting your overseas home about is going to be a major money spinner for you, you may well want to consider insuring yourself against any lost earnings. Basically, this insurance will reimburse you if your holiday tenants suddenly have to cancel.

Theft

As with mainland UK home insurance policies, you need to make sure you are protected against theft. All the usual precautions about invoicing your possession needs to be taken into consideration with your holiday home. Also, you need to check the excess deductibles carefully, as in most cases this can range from £50 - £200

Natural Disasters

As recent natural disaster such as the hurricanes, tsunami, and earth quakes have shown, certain geographical regions outside of the UK are more prone to natural disasters than the UK itself is. Consequently, you should make sure that your overseas home is adequately insured against this risk.

Insurance for your overseas home can be arranged cheaply over the internet, or else you can arrange to have the insurance provider by a specialist overseas home insurance company in your area. Do keep in mind that as this is effectively your second home, your home insurance premiums will be marginally higher than you may normally be expected to pay with the home you live in, especially if you are using the home in any way to generate income. <bio>Joe Kenny writes for the UK personal finance sites http://www.ukpersonalloanstore.co.uk and also http://www.cardguide.co.uk </bio>

You see people these days talking on their top-of-the-range mobile phones or listening to their costly MP3 players everywhere. So it can come as no surprise that latest police statistics reveal that the number of street muggings and robberies increased by 8% last year.

Statistics from the British Crime Survey of 45,000 people shows that the number of gunpoint robberies jumped by 10% for 2005. Perhaps the most startling result from the research is that robberies alone have rocketed by 22% to 311,000. This is the highest level in four years.

You have a situation where property is being stolen more in public places, but less from homes, according to the numbers, which says the rate of household burglaries dropped by 7%.

So is the number of people carrying mobile phones really to blame for the rise in robberies and muggings? Home Secretary John Reid thinks so. He has been reported in the media as saying that the rise in this sort of crime has been driven by the number of young people carrying expensive goods like mobile phones and MP3 players with them.

Most mobile phone companies are quite insistent with customers of the benefits of taking out insurance should their phone get stolen. But what many people do not realise is that these policies only usually cover phone theft, rather than the loss of your property. And you often do not actually need this insurance anyway because your property might already be covered for these sort of street thefts through your home contents insurance.

Association of British Insurers spokesperson Kelly Ostler says many home contents policies offer an All Risks Extension. An All Risks Extension is the technical term for cover of property taken outside the house.

"You have to check your household contents insurance has got it," she says.

Ostler reminds people, however, that insurance or no insurance, people also need to take simple precautions with their property when they take it outside the home. "We tell people to take care and use your common sense when you are going out -- not to leave your mobile phone or your mp3 player on the table or a bar."

You have to pay extra for 'All-risks' cover, but it means your property will not only be covered for theft, but accidental damage and loss. And you need to check and compare the price to make sure it is worth your while.

Insurance company Endsleigh offers home contents insurance with an All Risks Extension for an annual home and contents policy for almost £280. This covers up to £1000 worth of property taken outside your home. Norwich Union UK offers an annual cover for a minimum of £15,000 worth of property with an All Risks Extension for £260.99. This covers everything inside your home including £6000 for valuables like mobile phones. It also covers £2000 worth of your property away from home. For this you pay a £100 excess.

So before you sign up for insurance with your mobile phone company, check you do not already have cover with your home contents provider. You might be pleasantly surprised that you have insurance for your property outside the home already.

Source: ABI, Insurance Companies and BBC website article 'Phones and MP3s fuel robbery rise' 20 July. <bio>Home Insurance underwriters - great home insurance articles http://www.home-insurance-underwriters.co.uk </bio>

The key to making UK mortgage payment protection insurance work is to understand a policy; be aware of the key facts and the exclusions in a policy; and, how it can affect your circumstances. If not taken out with the exclusions in mind then a policy might not be right for you which would mean that it could be just a waste of money.

UK mortgage payment protection insurance can give you an income which would make sure that you would have the money with which to continue repaying your mortgage and so not get into arrears on the repayments and risk losing your home to repossession. You cannot rely on the income that the State offers as even if you do qualify for the help it usually isn't enough to give the peace of mind that UK mortgage payment protection insurance can give - providing you are eligible to claim of course.

The UK mortgage payment protection insurance cover would begin to give you an income so that you could pay your mortgage repayments each month once you had been out of work for a certain length of time and this can vary from provider to provider. Cover can begin to pay from the 31st day of being out of work but it can be as long as the 90th day before the cover kicks in. However the majority of UK mortgage payment protection insurance policies will be backdated to the first day of coming out of work.

The cover will continue to payout and give you peace of mind and security for up to 12 months although some providers will pay for up to 24 months.

Exclusions which are common to all policies and which could mean that a UK mortgage payment protection insurance policy wouldn't be suitable for your circumstances include if you are only in part time employment, if you are retired or if you have suffered from an illness within the past 2 years. You do have to make sure that you check out the small print of UK mortgage payment protection insurance policies as they can differ slightly from provider to provider and the best way to buy the cover is with a specialist provider of payment protection. <bio>Simon Burgess is Managing Director of the award-winning British Insurance (http://www.britishinsurance.com), a specialist provider of low cost income payment protection insurance (PPI), mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) and loan payment protection insurance. </bio>

You have taken out a critical illness insurance policy so that if you ever are in the unfortunate situation of developing a life threatening condition, you will be compensated.

But what if you wind up with a critical illness that is not guarded against on the insurance policy? What many people do not realise, and what can be of real concern, is that you may find that after you have purchased critical illness insurance you are only covered for up to 35 listed medical conditions. And this is the deal with most insurance policies. So if you develop a life threatening illness not named in your policy you could be faced with the disastrous situation where you get no pay out from your insurance company at all.

On the other hand, it could be that you have an easily treatable sickness and because it is ranked with what the insurance industry calls a "lower grading", you end up getting a full payout.

The Financial Services Authority and the Association of British Insurers are wary about whether insurance companies actually make these differences clear.

Jonathan French, a spokesman at the Association of British Insurers, says it is important that customers have an insurance policy fully explained to them before it gets purchased. "The situation we would not want to see occurring is for them to be buying a product thinking that it does something it doesn't do."

And for this reason, the ABI recently updated its codes of best practice for critical illness insurance. French says until recently, 35 conditions was the maximum number any company covered for critical illness insurance.

"What we set out are essentially the minimum standards companies have to apply to their policy. The guidance we have published improves the way the critical illnesses are defined. It makes it clear to consumers what levels of illness are covered and what aren't."

The cost of critical insurance varies. For someone in their late 30s for a 35-year term with a payout of £500,000, premiums cost anything up to £600. Scottish Equitable charges premiums of £290 and Scottish Provident charges £409 premiums for policies based on these conditions. Both these policies are reviewable. A guaranteed policy with Scottish Provident is £560.

So these figures give you an idea that the amount of money you pay out for this type of insurance can be expensive. You can imagine how infuriating it could be to find that you have paid out on the policy only to learn that when you do become critically ill your insurer will not pay you out.

There is now, however, a new critical illness product on the market. Prudential is marketing a new 'Flexible Protection Plan', which covers up to 140 medical conditions.

In the 'Flexible Protection Plan' there are partial payouts depending on the severity of the condition. If the condition worsens, there is more paid out to the maximum sum which has been insured. Most other policies do not offer partial payouts.

Take loss of eye-sight for an example. It would normally be the case with a critical illness policy that you would only receive a pay out if you became completely blind. But the Prudential policy will pay out 25% if you loose sight in just one eye.

But here is the catch. The cost of the policy is almost twice that of conventional illness cover and spectators worry that there will be some confusion about how the severity of an illness would be defined. <bio>Get great articles on life assurance from life insurance specialists http://www.life-insurance-specialists.co.uk </bio>

Income protection insurance can be your safety net if you should find yourself out of work through suffering from an accident, being off work long term sick or finding yourself unemployed through no fault of your own. It can bring peace of mind that you would have the money each month to carry on living your lifestyle in the manner you are accustomed and pay your essential outgoings.

Income protection insurance can, providing you have made sure that a policy is suited to your circumstances, give you a tax free income once you have been out of work for s set period of time. The period you have to wait before you can make a claim is determined at the time of taking out your policy and typically can be anywhere between the 31st day of being out of work up to 90 days. Once the cover has started you would then have an income each and every month you were out of work for up to 12 months and with some providers for up to 24 months.

While the cover can be a great product to have, you do have to ensure that it would be suitable for your circumstances. All income protection insurance policies do have exclusions and these can be found in the small print of a policy, some of the most common reasons included are if you are only working part time, suffering from an illness at the time of taking out the policy or if you are retired.

You do have to be careful when buying income protection insurance and the best way to buy the cover is with a standalone provider of income protection insurance. Beware of the high street lenders when thinking of buying payment protection cover as the cover is generally dearer with little or no advice given. The specialist will always give you the best deal and this means that you get the cheapest premiums along with the best advice. <bio>Simon Burgess is Managing Director of the award-winning British Insurance (http://www.britishinsurance.com), a specialist provider of low cost income payment protection insurance (PPI), mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) and loan payment protection insurance. </bio>

A far better way to purchase the cover is by going with the standalone providers of payment protection, this way you can be sure of getting a quality policy for the lowest premiums.

Cheap mortgage protection insurance can be made to work if you realise that there are exclusions such as being in part time work, self-employed, retired or if you suffer from a pre-existing medical condition. You do have to read the small print of the policy and check as they can differ slightly both in exclusions and the cost for the premiums.

Providing a policy would be suitable for your needs it would begin to payout after you had been out of work for a set period of time which can range from the 31st day to the 90th day of being out of work depending on the provider. Cover would then continue to give you a tax free income with which to carry on paying your monthly mortgage repayments without worry about where to get the money from each month.

Cheap mortgage protection insurance can help you to keep your home safe from the possibility of repossession but you have to stick with the standalone provider and make sure a policy would be suitable for your circumstances. <bio>Simon Burgess is Managing Director of the award-winning British Insurance (http://www.britishinsurance.com), a specialist provider of low cost income payment protection insurance (PPI), mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) and loan payment protection insurance. </bio>

Motor trade insurance is very important if you are in the motor trade business. Any of your cars could be damaged or completely wrecked while you are driving, or even while they are parked. The amount of cars on the road now-a-days that do not have insurance is very high, so you do not want to lose your whole investment on a car if your car gets wrecked and the person who caused the accident does not have insurance.

Motor trade insurance can also be used to protect your car if you are the one that causes the accident. Some people think that motor trade insurance is only good until you get into an accident, because then the insurance company decides that they do not want to pay your claim. Most of the time it is hard to know if you have a good insurance company until you have had an accident. However if you use an insurance broker then they usually have someone that works for them that will work with a particular insurance company on your behalf.

This in-house claims manager as they are sometimes referred will work for you to get the insurance company to pay for your claim. The best thing about using an insurance broker is that they work for you and not the insurance company, so they are going to do everything in their power to make you, their customer, satisfied. If you bought your own motor trade insurance, then you have to fight with the insurance company by yourself to get the money you deserve on a claim.

The biggest problem with this is that most of the time you do not know all of the insurance jargon that an insurance company uses, so you will not be able to understand everything that is going on. The insurance broker's claim manager knows the insurance business inside and out, so they can fight for you and get much better results. <bio>Save $$$ on your motor trader insurance at http://www.northerncounties.com/motor-trade-insurance.php </bio>
