There is more than one way to calculate your body fat, but to be able to get anything even close to an accurate measurement (without going to a doctor), you will need to have some flexible measuring tape and a calculator. There are several methods of calculating boy fat, and this one is based on the "U.S. Navy Circumference Method." As a warning, these are pretty complex and it might be better just to get a physical.

To make sure all these measurements are accurate, you want to be within .5 a centimeter, or even a .25 centimeter, if possible. Men and women measure different parts of their body.

For men: measure the abdomen horizontally at the level of the navel, the neck (interior of the larynx, with the tape sloping slightly down in the front, and record your height without shoes. For women, measure your hips at the largest horizontal circumference, your waist horizontally at the level of the minimum abdominal width, and then take the same neck and height measurements as the men. Record all this data.

Men will need two more measurements before the formula, which are bodyweight and waist girth. Then to do all the math, follow the next steps to the letter:

1)Multiply your bodyweight by 1.082. Add that sum to 94.42. Once your calculation is finished, save that number. (Bodyweight x 1.082) + 94.42="Result 1"

2)Multiply your waist girth by 4.15. This is "Result 2." After this sum, subtract it from the "Result 1" number. Result 1 -- Result 2 = Lean Bodyweight. This result is your lean bodyweight.

3)Finally, subtract your lean bodyweight from your total bodyweight (Total weight-Lean Bodyweight). Multiply that number by 100. Once you get this result divide it by your total bodyweight. This is your body fat percentage.

That sounds really complicated, but when you have the numbers and are making the actual calculations, it's not nearly as hard as it sounds, although you definitely want a calculator of some type. This is how men should measure their body fat. For women, the measurements are different.

For women, there are 5 necessary measurements: bodyweight, wrist circumference (widest point), waist circumference (umbilicus), hip circumference (widest point), and forearm circumference (widest point). Then follow these directions:

1) Multiply your bodyweight by 0.732. Result 1.
2) Add the Result 1 to 8.987. Result 2.
3) Divide your wrist circumference by 3.14. Result 3.
4) Multiply your waist measurement by 0.157. Result 4.
5) Multiply your hip measurement by 0.249. Result 5.
6) Multiply your forearm measurement by 0.434. Result 6.
7) Add results 2 and 3. Result 7.
8) Subtract Result 4 from Result 7. Result 8.
9) Subtract Result 5 from Result 8. Result 9.
10) Add together Results 6 and 9. This is your lean body mass.
11) Subtract your lean body mass from your bodyweight. Take this number and multiply it by 100. Once you get this result, divide it by your bodyweight.

These formulas aren't exact, but they give fairly accurate approximations. This will give you the ability to measure your body fat and have a better idea of how healthy you are. Use this information well, and keep up the good work!

The body mass index is often used in lieu of actual body fat measurements because it is easy to measure and figure out, making it more popular.<bio>The BMI - Body Mass Index can help you to measure your body fat.
There are several requirements for patients of gastric bypass surgery. This is to ensure that the major surgery isn't performed unnecessarily or on those with very high risk factors. Be aware that gastric bypass is a major surgery and you will be in much pain, experience many changes in your body and have to adapt to a new lifestyle.

Initially a gastric bypass surgery is only an option for those with a body mass index of forty or higher. Your body mass index is a general measure of whether your body weight is healthy for your height. A BMI of forty or higher indicates that you are obese and would benefit from a gastric bypass.

A surgery of this kind is not available to everyone with a body mass index this high though. You need to have tried for sometimes up to two years to lose weight via alternative methods, such as dieting before a doctor will consider this last resort method.

In addition a doctor will consider the following requirements when discussing this surgery with you. Whether you have been obese for five years or more. They will make sure you do not have a history of alcohol abuse or an untreated mental condition such as depression. As these conditions can make it harder for you after your surgery and may be part of the root cause for obesity in the first place. You should be relatively healthy in order to undergo the surgery and have a reasonable chance of survival and success. You should also be between the ages of eighteen and sixty five. Any younger and a doctor will insist that you keep trying other methods of weight loss. Any older and an ethical and experienced surgeon will begin to question the plausibility of survival for the patient. <bio>Read more gastric bypass articles and gastric bypass surgery news or visit our http://www.gastric-bypass-advice.com.. </bio>

Aside from diet and exercise, some prescription diet pills are recommended by doctors in order to treat obesity. However, your doctor will conduct several tests before he will prescribe a diet pill for you.

One of the factors that your doctor will have to consider is your BMI or your Body Mass Index. Basically, if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, and sleep apnea, your doctor will recommend diet pills for you if your body mass index is greater than 27. Also, even if you don't have any underlying condition, your doctor may recommend diet pills if your body mass index is greater than 30.

What is the Body Mass Index?

Body mass index (BMI) refers to the ratio of body fat in our body based on our height and the corresponding weight for it. It is one of the most accurate ways to determine if your extra weight will result to increased health risks. BMI measurements should be taken into consideration in assessing the health of men and women, especially adults. The higher your BMI, the greater risks you have in getting more and more health problems.

To compute for your body mass index, you will just have to determine your weight in kilograms and divide it by the square of your height. If you BMI is less than 18.5, then you are categorized as underweight. If your BMI is anywhere between 18.5 and 25, then you have a normal weight. In excess of 25 but lesser than 30, you are considered to be overweight. However, if your BMI exceeds thirty, then you are already obese and prescription diet pills can be recommended by your doctor.

Prescription weight loss drugs

There are two prescription drugs that are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for weight loss management.

Sibutramine (Meridia)

The sibutramine prescription diet pills work by altering your mind chemistry. These pills help you lose weight by making you think and feel that you are already full. These can also prevent feelings of hunger and thirst.

These pills will eventually help you lose fat more quickly that diet and exercise. In fact, studies show that people who use sibutramine lose ten pounds more than people who just follow a low calorie diet. However, taking this pill can result to some side effects. This list of side effects includes headache, high blood pressure, constipation, and insomnia.

Orlistat (Xenical)

Orlistat pills are prescription diet pills that reduce the body's ability to absorb fat. When the fat and cholesterol are not absorbed, they are eliminated in the stool. That is why, you can have oily spotting when taking orlistat.

The average weight loss for orlistat regimen is at least six pounds for a year. However, you can definitely lose more weight if you engage in diet plans and exercises. Aside from oily spotting and lose bowel movement, the use of orlistat diet pills may result to a decreased absorption of nutrients from the food that you consume. As a countermeasure, your doctor may ask you to take a multivitamin before bed time.

A similar diet pill that works the same way as the orlistat prescription diet pills is the Alli diet pill. These pills are the first FDA approved over the counter weight loss pills that can be used by people with obesity problems.<bio>Compare list of OTC diet pills that work and read our diet pill reviews.
It can be tough to tell sometimes whether or not you are physically in shape. To that end, there are some tests that you can perform to ensure that your body is working in its top condition. In this article, we'll be discussing some of these tests, and explaining what they mean about your health.

The Body Mass Index is one of the most commonly used methods of gauging a persons level of physical fitness. Commonly referred to as a BMI, it is the standard method used by medical professionals when it comes to diagnosing whether a person's weight is healthy, overweight, or obese. The Body Mass Index operates on a basic formula:

Your weight in pounds x 704.5 divided by your height in inches x your height in inches. The result of this computation should rest between zero and an upper bound of more than thirty. Typically, a healthy weight is calculated to have a BMI of between 19 and 24.9. For a Body Mass Index that hovers between 25 and 29.9, a person is described as being overweight. Body Mass Indexes that have a result that is over 30 represent a clinical case of obesity. Obesity can cause a heightened risk of cancer and heart disease, not to mention a host of other health problems.

Another method of testing for fat content in the body is not used as often as it used to be. The Yuhasz skin fold test has been used by schools to test the health of their students for decades, but it has been cast aside due to the way that it made children feel when the result was less than desirable. The Yuhasz test measures total fat percentage in the body by measuring the layer of fat that is found directly underneath the skin. Various points on the body are tested to ensure accurate testing results, with a total of six test sites being examined to accurately gauge a person's body composition. The tricep, the abdomen, the front of the thigh, below the shoulderblade, and above the pelvis are tested in all individuals while taking a Yuhasz skin fold test. In males, the chest is also tested, and in females, the rear of the thigh is tested. Calipers are used to determine an accurate measurement of how thick the sub-skin fat layer is, and age, weight and gender all play into the calculation of fitness. The typical male has been found to have between fifteen and seventeen percent body fat, and the average female is known to have between eighteen and twenty two percent body fat. Athletes, known for their fitness, often have fat contents of six to twelve percent for males and twelve to twenty percent for females. These two tests can help you to accurately gauge where your fitness level is at and where you need to get it. <bio>Kadence Buchanan writes articles for http://letsdropsomeweight.com/ - In addition, Kadence also writes articles for http://cookingforfun.net/ and http://iwomensworld.net/ </bio>

Obesity today has grown in numbers and continues to grow at an alarming rate, especially in the modern day western worlds.

Essentially, obesity is a condition in which there is way too much fat being carried by your body... and today, obesity is reaching epidemic proportions.

Beginning with the most obvious health concern, obesity puts an enormous amount of strain on the joints and architectural structure of the body itself. This continual strain over a long period of time will effectively break down the joints and can lead to arthritis and chronic pain.

As the weight goes up and the body struggles to accommodate the extra pounds, people will generally become less and less active only contributing to the weight gain cycle.

Beyond the everyday strain that it put on the joints by being obese, the lack of activity, the general poor eating habits will also cause strain to the heart and the blood vessels resulting in high blood pressure, a higher risk of stroke, and other circulatory health issues. Obesity can also lead to sleep apnea which is the temporary stopping of breathing during sleep.

Once the body reaches a state of obesity, the ability to reverse the trend is difficult. By this time, it's usually not just a battle against the weight problem, but a battle for one's self esteem and confidence that they can win the battle. Obesity can be overcome, but it takes patience and a long term approach. Not just a new 'latest' diet.

If you found your way to an obese state, the first place to start your journey back to a recognizable weight is with your physician. Take the time to to discuss your weight and your plan to begin to reclaim your body. Be sensible and be realistic and work with your doctor as it pertains to both your diet (eating habits)and any type of newly found physical activity.

Defining Obesity.

Medically speaking obesity is defined as having a body mass index of 30 or higher. Body mass index is simply a measurement of the person's weight proportional to their height. The body mass index works as a simple benchmark to indicate an amount of fat stored on the body. Needless to say the higher the number the greater the risk to the various health problems brought on by being overweight. <bio>For more important information on weight loss be sure to visit http://www.weight-loss-won.com where you will find product reviews and tips on weight loss, dieting, and more. </bio>

Obesity has been labeled as the most dangerous pandemic for the twenty first century by many social and health care commentators. While the idea of a non-communicable and non-pathogenic physical condition may not fit the traditional definition of a pandemic, the parallels are valid nonetheless. Obesity is related to many of the leading causes of death in the western world, and the rate of obesity has increased alarmingly in the last several decades. In fact, the prevalence and severity of obesity is so great today that many experts fear that the current generation may be the first one in many centuries that will have a life span that is less than that of the previous generation. Clearly, obesity is a major problem, and the health care community is working to make obesity detection and treatment a public health priority. While obesity can often be caused by an underlying physical disorder, as in the case of diabetes obesity or other obesity disease, the most common cause is a poorly controlled diet and a sedentary lifestyle. Obesity is increasing most precipitously in the young, and obesity in kids as well as teenage obesity are considered to be particularly worrying.

To determine if someone is seriously obese instead of just andquot;big bonedandquot; or plump, it is necessary to have a scientific way of measuring obesity. Simply measuring the weight of an individual is insufficient since other factors such as body type and height impact the weight of the individual without contributing to obesity. The most common way of obtaining a true measure of the relative level of obesity in an individual is to use the body mass index. A body mass index measurement is simply a ratio of the weight of the individual to his or her height. While body mass index measurements do provide a standard way to measure obesity, the approach is not terribly sophisticated and can not take into account whether the weight is caused by muscle or fat. More complex methods of obesity metrology are often used. One of the most common second level metrics is the body fat measurement. The most accurate way to measure body fat concentration is to measure how much a person weighs in the air and then weigh them again in the water. Since fat is more buoyant than muscle, it is possible to get a decent measurement of the ratio of muscle to fat weight using this technique. However, measuring body fat in this way requires special equipment and is not suitable for the average patient. There are other methods such as the skin fold test as well as more sophisticated electrical measurements that can be used to approximate body fat levels. <bio>Daniel Yancy writes on a variety of subjects and recommends http://www.diseaseinforx.com for more information on the subject. </bio>

In order to maintain a healthy weight management program, you need to know how to measure your body fat accurately. Most people will simply step on a weighing scale at home, read the numbers and exclaimed, "Arrrrrgh! I have put on extra 2 kilos and I need to lose those extra weight I have gained."

You know what? Body fat measurement on a weighing scale is unreliable. If you lose weight, how would you know that you were not losing fat but muscles, or water, or the food you have eaten? Or if you have put on weight, could it be from the muscle weight you have worked so hard for? Or could it be the heavy meal you have eaten or from the beer you have just drunk?

So your weight will fluctuate if you use the bathroom weighing scale as your body fat measurement. Then what is the best method of weight measurements can you measure your body fat more accurately?

Well, most methods of body fat weight measurement have their pros and cons but are usually better than the simple bathroom scales in measuring body fat percentages. Although not the best, here are two of the more common body fat measurement methods for effective weight management which you can do at home.

•Body Mass Index Measurement (BMI)

Body Mass Index body fat measurement method take your weight and height into consideration that will give you an indication of whether you are obese and overweight or in a great body shape. It is a calculation formula: BMI = kg/m2

A healthy BMI score is between 18 and 25. A score below 18 indicates that you may be underweight; a value above 25 indicates that you may be overweight.

However, BMI weight measurement method may not be accurate if you are an athlete or a bodybuilder with more muscle mass than an average person.

•Waist To Hip Measurement

Waist to hip method of body fat measurement is thought to be much more important than the BMI method. This is because it measures visceral fat which are normally accumulated in the abdominal area and can also be found in the organs which are considered more dangerous than normal body fat.

To measure your waist to hip ratio, measure your waist at your navel and your hips at its widest point (usually at the butt cheeks) then divide your waist by your hips. Your waist to hip measurement should be 0.92 or lower. More than that would mean that you are accumulating more visceral and body fat in that area and is an indication of susceptibility to obesity related diseases.

If you find that remembering formulae and number crunching being complicated, there are equipment you can buy to help you measure your body fat at home for your weight management program such as calipers and electronic body fat percentage calculator.

Armed with more accurate body fat measurement, then you can plan your weight management program more effectively whether to lose extra weight or gain healthy weight. <bio>Chris Chew is a personal trainer of pageant winners, models, actors and other celebrities.
Before you engage yourself in a body building work out, you need to know the basic exercises involving a body changing workout. And yes, what you need to know are the basics and facts which can more or less leave you in shock. What you need to keep in mind though is to concentrate on specific parts of your body to be able to gain muscle mass rapidly.

The parts of the body which allows fast muscle growth are the ones on the legs, back and the chest. These parts hold large muscles of the body and concentrating on these regions will help a person to not only gain muscle mass but strength as well. When using basic exercises, other areas of the body that you're probably not concentrating on at the moment are also gaining mass and changing although you might not realize it.

What is emphasized as the goal for knowing the basic bodybuilding exercises is the idea to increase your muscle mass. In other words, performing and mastering the basic exercises can help a bodybuilder to become larger. Leave the exercises for smaller muscle groups for later. Concentrate on the large groups of muscle first.

The Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, Bent-Over-Row, Overhead Press, Lat Pulldown, Chin, and Dip are among the basic exercises in body building any beginner should learn how to execute since this is when and how the muscles are able to coordinate with other muscles and joints of the body. What is recommended for beginners is to focus in gaining muscle mass without stressing the body too much or it will lead to exhaustion and bad body building outcome.

There are a lot of points one aspiring body builder needs to know before seriously diving in to the entire body building routine and exercises.
When it comes to measuring your body fat percentages, there are many ways suggested to go about this; however, not all of them are reliable in that they take all of the different compositional elements into account.

For example, the oldest way of measuring body fat percentage is known as the BMI, or the Body Mass Index. This is based on the individual's height and an average weight for the same but that is not a reliable way of measuring the initial or the changing composition of an individual's body.

There are two components to body mass in general; fat mass and lean body mass. However, to consider this issue, the lean body mass can also be further divided into three other categories; bone, muscle, and what is commonly known as 'everything else.'

Considering that all of these different components contribute to the overall body mass, the BMI does not consider how the mass is broken up. Thus bone is equal to muscle, which is equal to everything else; and this does not portray an accurate picture on how much mass is actually body fat.

Another problem with the BMI is that because it does not break the body mass down into the independent categories when one is participating in physical training, the decline in body fat can often be replaced by an increase in muscle mass yet there is no distinction between the two using the BMI.

So what's next? Now-a-days, a common way to measure body fat percentages is through the use of the andquot;Gold Standard Test.andquot; What is this? Well, it is not a test you can routinely do yourself; rather it is a test that needs to be monitored carefully. You get into a pool of water, expel all of the air from your lungs, and then submerge yourself; the goal being to test for your hydrostatic weight. Often times, it is necessary to repeat this four or five times before an accurate weight can be derived and the results are somewhat questionable.

A second option using the same basic premise as the Gold Standard Test available today is a test in which the BOD POD TM is used and measurements are taken on the air displacement released into an enclosed chamber. While the results here are more accurate, the equipment necessary to perform the test is very difficult to attain. And of course, the equipment is quite costly.

So the DEXA or more commonly called the DXA was introduced to try and compete with the expense involved with the BOD POD TM. However, this device has very poor results as they vary significantly simply based on who manufactured the equipment. So this is one new measurement you definitely want to stay away from!

Perhaps the most beneficial and accurate means of measuring your body fat percentage is found through the use of the BIA technology. BIA stands for Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. This test passes a small electrical current (which is not painful at all) through the body and then measures the body's electrical resistance which equals the total body's water content.

The body fat can then be determined through a distinct difference in resistance than the lean body mass has. Thus accurate results are forthcoming in all components of the body individually, instead of lumping them all together as the original testing was prone to do.

One does have to be cautious, however, when using this type of body fat analysis as it should not be done any more frequently than once a week. So those who like to test daily after each workout would not be able to use this method that continuously. There is some preparation that one must adhere to before beginning this test to assure accurate results. Firstly, you cannot eat or drink for four hours prior to the testing; secondly, you cannot exercise twelve hours prior to testing; thirdly, there can be no consumption of alcohol for forty-eight hours prior; and there must be no evidence of diuretic use at all.

After the testing is complete, measurements from the wrists and the foot are taken and analyzed for body fat, body muscle, and water percentages and the results can be charted for follow-up at a later date when another test may be administered.

So for all of you out there trying to figure out the best way to measure your body fat, the days of girth measurement are over! We all know that weight can deposit itself in many other places than just the waist and stomach; not just those we can see, either! Intra-abdominal deposits are becoming more frequent and the only way to truly know the percentage of body fat you have is to test in an accurate manner as is discussed above. <bio>Discover free how to get a 6-pack of washboard abs at http://www.burnthefatfeedmuscle.com </bio>

One of the first steps to realizing if you are leading a healthy lifestyle or not is determining if you are overweight. Calculating your Body Mass Index or BMI is an excellent first step. Once you've determined what your BMI you can use a combination of exercise and nutrition to help you reach your desire weight goal.

If you are trying to lose weight or just maintain a healthy weight, you should understand the connection between the energy your body takes in and the energy your body uses. Energy is taken in through food you eat and beverages you drink. Energy is used by activities performed. To lose weight you have to use more calories than you take in. To maintain, you have to match the calories you take in with those that you use. Eating a healthy diet and being physically active can help you reach either goal.

The number of calories you need each day depends on your age, activity level and whether you are trying to lose, gain or maintain your weight. Your diet should include the most nutritious foods including fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fat free or low fat milk and dairy products. Foods should be rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients.

You also must be physically active. Regular physical activity is important to your overall health and fitness. It can help you control your body weight. Aim to be physically active at a moderate intensity for at least 30 minutes a day. Increase the intensity or amount of time you exercise to have greater health benefits. Children and teenagers should be physically active for at least 60 minutes every day.

To see if you are at a healthy weight you can measure your BMI (Body Mass index). To calculate your BMI, multiply your weight in pounds by 704, and then divide by the square of your height in inches. For example: if you weigh 162 pounds and are 69 inches tall, your BMI is (162 x 704) divided by (69 x 69)= 23.9 which is normal.

Underweight= <bio>Sarah Verneke runs http://www.Fitness-Infomercial.com where she looks at health and fitness infomercials, and weight loss supplements. </bio>

Especially if you're a natural bodybuilder, exercise enthusiast, or just an average joe / jane looking to build muscle, gain quality weight, or burn body fat, you're always looking for any tips, tricks, or techniques that could help you towards reaching your physique-enhancing goals. Sadly, many studies that weight trainers place their full faith in can be completely misleading or misinterpreted.

In a recent issue of Flex magazine, they comment on two particular studies that in my opinion fit this description. Regarding the first study that's found in the International Journal of Obesity and Related Metabolic Disorders the study claims "the rate at which you eat your meals may influence the amount of body fat you hold. Researchers from the National Institute of Health and Nutrition in Tokyo assessed the eating rate and the amount of food eaten by almost 1700 female subjects along with their body mass index....They reported that the faster the subjects tended to eat their meals, the higher their body mass index, and therefore, their body fatness".

The second study cited in the same magazine that was included in Prevention magazine pretty much comes to the same conclusion, that the faster you eat the more body fat you gain, in addition to having higher blood glucose (sugar) and insulin levels.

Here's my problem with studies like these: anyone that would be skimming this could potentially be fooled into thinking that if they want keep body fat levels low while eating a higher calorie diet needed to build muscle and gain quality weight that you should eat s-l-o-w-l-y, and alls well. However, this study fails to look at the overall picture.

If I were a betting man I would say that it wasn't necessarily the eating quickly of food that made these subjects gain more body fat that normal. What you have to consider is the faster you eat food the more likely you are eat more of it. Period. So of course, if you are eating more food / bigger portions that means you are going to be eating more overall calories. And if you're eating way more calories than what you are supposed to, guess what's going to happen? You're going to put on body fat. That is going to happen whether you eat fast or slow. I don't know about you, but I know a ton of people that are slow as molasses when it comes to eating, and they have guts that protrude several feet in front and to the sides, if you get my drift.

Sad to say, but concentrating or focusing on the wrong aspect of eating to build muscle mass naturally is a major reason why you see so many weight trainers who day in and day out, faithfully, work out at home or gym, pounding away at the weights, yet never see any real results.

Bottom line, like I say in many of my articles, it will always come down to overall calories when it building muscle mass or gaining weight is concerned.<bio>There are two studies that claim that the speed at which you eat a meal can determine how much fat or muscle you can gain. But, they aren't considering all of the factors.
It is a known fact that people like to have good looking bodies. For some people this is a distant dream that is very hard to get. This is because these individuals are morbidly obese. When we hear these words many of us are not aware of what is being said. In fact we tend to think that this term means being fascinated with fat body shapes.

The reality of the matter is slightly different. The actual meaning for the words "morbidly obese" is that a person is severely overweight. The way that this is calculated is by seeing what their body height is and if the body mass is right for this height. While it is possible to get this information about being morbidly obese from your doctor you can find this information from internet sites as well.

This information that you will find on the internet will sometimes be in the form of a chart. The chart will have figures for both men and women. Following the numbers which are given you can see if you are in danger of being morbidly obese. Should you find that you fall into this category there are things that you can do to lose some weight.

The first step is to visit your doctor. From this individual you will be able to see the actual state of your health. Next you can plan the best ways for you to lose this morbid obesity. These can include activities like reducing your food types and intake. Additionally you should think about taking up an exercise routine where you are constantly moving.

Since at first, staying on these lifestyle changes can be difficult, you should set small steps. As you progress further you can see the results as you change from being morbidly obese to having a normal body shape and size. These are important steps for anyone who is interested in losing their morbidly obese body weight.

With the help if all of these activities you can start reducing your body mass to what is considered as being acceptable. When you have a slim body shape then you can no longer be called morbidly obese. This is the point when you have regained a healthy looking body.

You will then be in a position to help other sufferers who are morbidly obese. The personal knowledge that you have gained will provide these people with the knowledge that it is possible for any one person who is morbidly obese to lose weight safely and with satisfactory results. <bio>Author's Sites: http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pregnancy_weight_loss/index.html , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/home_remedy_for_vaginal_infections.html

</bio>

Health is the wealth. Due to development in the field of science, we have simplified our day-to-day work with the help of machines. The victim here is our health. Energy spent is less as we can do strenuous tasks by just pressing the button. But we never tried to reduce the intake. This results in excess energy intake. This excess energy is stored in the body in the form of fat. Hence our weight increases so also the susceptibility to various life threatening ailments. If you want remain healthy and live longer fat loss [weight loss] is the only remedy.

Our body is composed of water, muscle, bone and other organs. Besides this fat is the other important component of the body. The body fat can be classified as fat that is essential and fat that is for storage. Essential fat as the name suggests is most important component of the body and these fats can be seen in muscles, central nervous system, bone marrow and other organs like liver and kidney.

The excess energy intake is converted in to fat and stored in the body as storage fat. Storage fats can be seen under the skin, in the muscle and in specific areas of the body. It is not bad to have some quantity of storage fat in the body. The storage fat functions like insulator [conserves the body temperature], and serves as a source of energy at the time of the poor intake. We must lose this excess fat. This kind of fat loss is must for the healthy normal functioning of the body as we discussed already. While trying for fat loss we should keep in mind that neither too much fat nor too little fat is healthy.

Many people who want to reduce their weight may think why should we know about the body fat? And why should we calculate the body fat? The reason for measuring the body fat is that it is the realistic measurement of fitness of our body. Fat loss is nothing but weight loss. Body mass index is an indicator of the health and fitness of the body. The big disadvantage of the body mass index is that it may conclude that you are overweight. But your body fat may be normal. When the body fat is normal, your health is perfect though you are overweight. Hence body fat calculation is the best method to assess your fitness.

Like the quantity of the fat, the distribution of the fat is also important factor in determining the fitness of the body. Extra fat stored in the hip region is more harm full than the fat stored in buttocks and thighs. Hence fat loss from the hip region is highly preferable. In most cases if the person loses weight by following a perfect, safe, risk free weight loss or fat loss program, he will lose only body fat not the muscle. At times along with fat loss, some quantity of the muscle also will be lost. However the fat loss will be much more than the muscle loss, which is highly desirable. Some people due urgency and ignorance may follow bad diet and wrong diet pills to reduce weight. Those people will be losing body water instead of body fat. As the result there will not be any fat loss, which is of no use as far as the health and fitness of the person concerned. <bio>http://4starhealth.com/wlkp-fat_loss.php </bio>

I Am About to Make a Large Group of Bodybuilders Angry.

Like it or not, having too much muscle mass will give you a cheesy look. Seriously, when women are polled they find too much muscle mass a major turnoff. It is hard to look andquot;GQandquot; or andquot;hipandquot; when you have a large amount of muscle mass on your frame. If you have so much muscle mass that you can't fit into a normal pair of pants, then keep reading...

Women Prefer Men With Average Amounts of Muscle Mass, but With Exceptional Tone.

If you want a body that women find attractive then you will want to take a close look at men that women go crazy for. Here is a short list:

1) Abercrombie Models 2) Calvin Klein Models 3) Soap Opera Stars 4) Actors (Jamie Foxx, Matthew Mcconaughey, Hugh Jackman, Brad Pitt, etc.)

These men all have one thing in common. They all have an average amount of muscle mass. They also keep their body fat levels low to show of great muscle tone. This type of body looks great with or without clothes.

Are You Working Out To Impress Other Guys In Your Gym?

I know this sounds absurd, but I believe this is the real reason that guys try to gain as much muscle mass as possible. Guys are competitive by nature, so they end up competing with each other in the gym setting as well. The young guys see the older guy with huge arms, throwing around heavy weights and soon that becomes their role model. They go on a quest to gain as much muscle mass as possible, without realizing that it isn't a good look.

Don't Get Caught Up In the andquot;Muscle Massandquot; Trap and You Will Attract More Women!

It is really easy to get sucked into the quest of gaining as much muscle mass as possible. Huge guys get a lot of respect in the gym. You will see young guys kissing up to the big guys in every gym in the country. In the outside world it isn't the same. Women in particular think that these guys look funny. You simply can't look cool and have a large amount of muscle mass at the same time! When you try to wear nice or hip clothes something looks a little andquot;offandquot;.

Separate Yourself From the Goofy Bodybuilders.

So your goal should be to maintain an average amount of muscle mass and burn off all that extra body fat. What you will need to do is spend much more time on cardio and less time with the weights. It will be hard at first. You will be pulled to the dark side of andquot;maximum muscle massandquot; on a regular basis. You must remain mentally strong. Resist those temptations and you will look better. One more thing...where do you think most of the attractive women in gyms hang out? Yep...the cardio section of the gym. It sounds like a win-win situation to me! <bio>Rusty Moore is an avid trainer who gives advice to men and women who want their body to attract the opposite sex.
Newspaper reports in the early months of 2008 that life insurance companies will start charging overweight customers up to 50% more in premiums, begs the question whether they are being unfair or simply driven by actuarial logic.

Some people might consider it "unfair" that because they are overweight, they should have to pay, for example, £1,500 a year for a £150,000 life cover whereas his leaner peers will be paying only £1,000.

But the sheer logic of the situation is that life insurance companies are in the business of assessing the risk of an early death of their policy holders. And obesity is a medical condition with attendant health problems that can lead to an early death. Obesity has been linked as a major contributor, for example, to heart and liver problems, diabetes and certain forms of cancer. Many insurers, therefore, are paying increasing attention to the critical "body mass index" (or BMI) in new proposals for life cover.

The body mass index is a simple measure, widely used in medical circles, as an indicator of obesity. It is the index derived by dividing a person's weight (in kilograms) by their height (in metres) and dividing that result by their height (in metres) once again. A resulting index of 30 or more is classified as "obese" and a result of 40 or more as "very obese". According to responses to press questions from Britain's largest life insurance company, some 13% of new proposals are being made by individuals reporting a body mass index in excess of 30. This appears to be the marker at which many life insurance companies are introducing higher premium rates.

The actuarial logic of the situation is not lost on the Association of British Insurers, of course, who have said that obesity increases the risk of contracting certain diseases. A spokesman commented that premium increases for the overweight should be considered in the same light as those increases already applied to smokers or to those with previous or pre-existing medical conditions. In fact, when taken together, the difference in the cost of premiums for someone of the same age and gender in the lowest and in the highest risk groups can be as high as 400% - reverting to the example used earlier, that would be the difference between £1,000 and £4,000 each year for £150,000-worth of life cover.

Just in case these figures give any encouragement to lie about your weight or height on the proposal form, there is a salutary warning from the Financial Ombudsman. The latter recently determined a disputed claim arising from the death of a 37 year-old man who had declared to his insurers a height of 6ft and a weight of 16 stone. He died some months after the start of the life cover, but his life insurance company rejected the claim when it was revealed that he was actually 5ft 9in tall and weighed 21 stone (measurements that would have increased his premium by 275%). The Financial Ombudsman ruled that the insurer had been right in rejecting the claim.<bio>Confused.com is one of the UK's biggest and most popular price comparison services.
Physical health can be measured (with certain exceptions) through the appropriateness of a person's weight to his height; where the body weight refers to the measure of one's heaviness and the height is the measure of his tallness. For instance, a woman measuring 5 ft high (1.52 m), with a medium body frame should weigh between 103 lbs to 115 lbs (46.72 kg to 52.16 kg) to be considered healthy.

Another example: a man standing 5 ft 8 in (1.72 m) tall, with a large body frame is healthy if he is weighing between 144 lbs to 163 lbs (65.32 kg to 73.94 kg). Otherwise, if their weight is lower than the desired body weight for their height, they are considered underweight. And if, in turn, their weight is higher than the desired body weight for their height, they are said to be overweight.

Body Mass Index is an indicator of surplus body fat and has since replaced the height-weight charts as mentioned in the above examples. It is a mathematical ratio of height to weight that is used to determine body composition (or body fat percentage) to assess a person's level of health risk. Calculating BMI is as follows:

BMI = Weight (in kg) divided by Height (in m)2orBMI = Weight (in lbs) x 700 divided by Height (in inches)2 For example, the calculation for someone weighing 80 kg (176 lbs) and 1.60 m (63 in) tall is: BMI = 80 divided by 160 squared = 31.2 or BMI = 176 x 700 divided by 63 squared = 31.1

People with a BMI of 25.1 to 29.9 are considered overweight, and people with a BMI of 30 or above are considered obese. Thus, from the example above, a person weighing 80 kg and is 1.60 m tall is obese. A high BMI assumes a higher percentage of body fat, which places a person at greater risk for developing chronic diseases and other serious illnesses.

BMIWeight Category 19 and underUnderweight 20-25Normal (Healthy) 26-29Overweight 30 and aboveObese Body weight categories according to BMI

However, for some people, the BMI is not a reliable indication of health. A highly muscled individual who is very fit and healthy may have a somewhat heavy body weight because muscles pack on a lot of pounds. This person may have a high BMI that improperly puts him or her in the overweight or obese categories. Likewise, thin individuals who have a low body weight with very little muscle and a higher percentage of fat may have a normal BMI, which would be an incorrect indication of healthiness.

If you are overweight or obese according to the calculations shown here it is imperative that you undertake a weight loss and fitness program and start bringing that weight down. Remember that for every 10 pounds that you are over your ideal weight, the risks to your health increase and for every 10 pounds that you lose bringing you closer to your ideal weight, the risks to your health decrease. <bio>Jim O'Neill gives you tons of valuable information on the subjects of weight loss, fitness, and nutrition to make it easy for you to live a healthy lifestyle.
So you want to build muscle mass but don't know how? So many people believe the answer is to get into the gym and lift for three hours a day will get the job done. While lifting and working out is certainly a crucial part to building muscle mass, your diet is the other half of the puzzle. If you can accommodate a healthy diet with a vigorous workout schedule, you will be on your way to increasing your muscle mass.

The type of work out and lifting that you do will determine how quickly you build muscle mass and how efficiently you do. The number of sets and repetitions that you select for each muscle will set up how much result you see from your workout. If you can put the right amount of stress on the different muscle groups, you will see the effects. On the other hand, not putting enough stress on the muscles will tone your muscles as oppose to build mass.

If you are just starting out, you will have to get a feel for what weight is right for you. Everybody's body is different and no workout is perfect for everyone. The typical workout to build muscle mass is 4 to 6 sets with 6 to 8 reps for the major muscle groups. The major muscle groups consist of the chest, back, thighs, shoulders and arms. For the smaller muscles, such as the abdominals and calves, 2 to 4 sets with 10 to 15 reps is best.

Although your muscles will become more stressed out and quicker with free weights such as barbells and bench press, you will also be able to build muscle mass much quicker than with machines. Using machines can be effective for toning muscles, but getting stronger and finding a gauge of you true strength can be done with free weights.

As mentioned, the second half of building muscle mass is through the diet. The basic concept is to eat more calories than you burn. A high protein diet should be an important part to any diet, specifically protein derived from animal sources. Along with a high amount of protein, carbohydrates such as potatoes, rice, beans, bread and pasta should be included in your diet.

While protein will allow you to build muscle mass, carbohydrates will keep your intensity level up to par. The combination of the two will allow you to have a good diet and stay energized enough to workout hard.

When you are looking to gain muscle mass, the accommodation of a well-rounded diet with a heavy weight lifting program will get the job done. If you research and get a feel for what is best with your body, you will be able to efficiently build muscle mass. <bio>Gregory E Newton's muscle gain website offers an email course, books, articles, information and guarantees of how you can build your dream body today.
Of all the different breeds of dog that you can choose from, the Bichon Frise can definitely be considered as one of the most popular. These are really adorable, beautiful dogs, and absolutely a fan favorite. They make great pets, and not only that but because they are always so alert and active they make reliable watchdogs as well.

The Bichon Frise, when properly trained of course, is also great around children and so is the perfect family pet. If you are interested in getting a Bichon Frise dog, the first thing you are going to want to do is find a good breeder. There are many Bichon Frise breeders out there, but you need to understand that some are good while others are bad. It is very important that you take your time and take the process of finding a breeder very seriously if you want to have the best results you possibly can and find yourself a healthy and happy puppy.

Before you even begin your search for Bichon Frise breeders, it is important that you understand what mass breeders are. These are breeders that basically breed purely for the profit, the financial means, and do not care for the dogs, as they should. In fact in most cases these breeders produce litters of dogs that are mistreated and malnourished, and as a result they grow up to be untrained and have poor behavior skills.

Puppies bred by these mass breeders are more often than not ill and mistreated, and so it is then obviously important that you take your time to make sure you are only dealing with the best breeders you can find. There are a few things that you can do to make sure of this, and namely you want to ask a lot of questions. Never feel as though you are being too forward or intruding, because any respectable and reputable breeder is going to be more than willing to help you out here and answer any questions that you may have.

To find good Bichon Frise breeders you are going to have to ask lots of questions, and that is all there is to it. There are good breeders and there are bad, most of which are mass breeders. You should always check the breeder's licenses and certificates, so that you have proof of their knowledge and experience. You may also want to ask questions involving such things as the dog's temperament, where they breed, how many types of dogs they focus on, and how much they charge per puppy.

Your breeder should always keep you involved throughout the process and you are going to think of even more questions as you go along. You should never be afraid to ask a breeder anything, because good breeders understand that this is just part of the job and will not get frustrated or angry with you. Even if you think that a question you have is dumb or unimportant, you should feel comfortable enough with your breeder that you will ask anyway. <bio>As a dog owner and lover, Mary Stevenson understands that no matter what breed you are looking for you need to take your time and ask lots of questions when you are looking for a breeder. There are many http://www.bichonfriseguide.com/Bichon_Frise_Breeders/index.php Bichon Frise breeders out there you just have to know how to find the right one. The best idea is to learn as much http://www.bichonfriseguide.com/About_The_Bichon_Frise/index.php Bichon Frise information as you can and then go looking for a breeder, so that you can make the most informed and intelligent decision. </bio>

The concept of "Food Triggers" in health science is not new. Simply put, a food trigger can be any food that causes or "triggers" a reaction or change in the body. Food triggers work by the interaction of the body with the macro nutrients (Proteins, Carbohydrates, and Fats) in the foods. Because of their genetics and biochemistry each individual reacts to food macro nutrients differently. Many people are familiar with and affected by food triggers like milk, peanuts, cheese, and wine that cause allergic reactions and migraine headaches; but fewer people are familiar with food triggers that can generate weight loss.

Simply stated, a Weight Loss Food Trigger is any food or combination of foods that help generate weight loss in an individual. When we speak of a food helping generate weight loss, we are really speaking of how your body utilizes the proportions of the macro nutrients in the foods you eat. Although the biochemistry involved in the metabolization (break down) of these macro nutrients is similar between individuals, how they are utilized in the body can be very different between individuals.

Despite fad diets and media hype; ALL of the macro nutrients are essential to life and NONE are more important than the others. Any healthy diet will include ALL the macro nutrients although not necessarily in equal proportions. Common to all the macro nutrients is carbon and all the macro nutrients are all ultimately metabolized through a set of chemical reactions called the Krebs Cycle to generate heat and energy.

Scientists measure the relationship between how macro nutrients are metabolized in the body through a process known as Calorimetry. Calorimetry is commonly done at hospitals, research facilities and elite fitness facilities reserved for professional and Olympic athletes. It involves the athlete riding a sophisticated cycle or treadmill while attached to mouth breathing and electronic body monitors. It measures oxygen inhaled versus the products of metabolized macro nutrients exhaled with the mouth monitor.

Nutrition research results reveals that changes in the proportions of macro nutrients ingested can effect changes in weight. Thus, weight loss is not only dependent on how much you eat but also the proportion of macro nutrients you eat. Further, the specific proportion of macro nutrients necessary to generate weight loss (Weight Loss Food Trigger) is different for each individual.

Until now, the only way to calculate a weight loss food trigger would be by an expensive and week long stay at a hospital, research facility or elite fitness facility. Now, commercially available software allows anyone to calculate their own weight loss food triggers in the privacy of their own home. Macro nutrient information that would be derived from Calorimetry can be approximated indirectly by using Body Index calculations. Body Index calculations include things like: Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR); Body Mass Index (BMI); Lean Body Mass (LBM); and Body Fat Percentage (BF). This software automatically, monitors and looks for a relationship between your Body Indexes, Food Intake, and weight to find your weight loss food trigger. <bio>Dr. Parchment began her medical career with clinical medicine specializing inInternal Medicine for almost fifteen years. http://www.mycaloriescount.com/parchment.html </bio>
