It's that time again: you need continuing education units (CEUS) to renew your professional license or credentials. Certification organizations, government licensing boards, and professional societies require continuing education (CE) for licensing. While some people plan carefully and attend courses, conferences, and seminars, others get caught behind. Such is the predicament facing nurses, marriage and family therapists, and social workers in need of continuing education every few years.

The International Association for Continuing Education and Training gives the following definition of a Continuing Education Unit:

• One (1) CEU is equal to ten (10) contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.

• One contact hour is 50 consecutive clock minutes in a board-approved continuing education class or activity.

Instruction must come from a continuing education program recognized by the licensing board of your particular profession. Upon completion, your CEU records not only supply evidence to licensing boards of successfully passing the courses, but they also give employers information about your training.

Luckily, getting CEUS is easier than ever with the internet. Whether you're an LCSW, an MFT, a nurse, or another professional in need of continuing education, there are a variety of CE offerings online. Online CEUS offer several advantages:

• Save time. You can complete CEUS online at your own pace. If your deadline is approaching quickly, you don't have to wait for books, materials, or tests to be mailed back and forth. You can finish your online education in a matter of a few days, whereas through traditional mail could take up to 30 days. You also don't have to wait for your conference or seminar to roll around and save commuting time.

• Gain Instant Access. After signing up, you get immediate access to reading materials and tests. You receive instant feedback on your test scores, and upon successful completion, you can print the course certificate from the comfort of home.

• Save Money. The online environment does not have the same overhead that conferences, seminars, and colleges do. Most online courses cost less than $10 per CEU. Compare that to hundreds of dollars you'd pay for CEUS at conferences or college courses.

Make sure your online CEUs will be accepted.

When considering online CEUS, verify that your course will count towards your CEU requirements. Requirements vary by state, so be sure to check with the professional licensing board over your jurisdiction. Save yourself the hassle: get an answer in writing before you start. <bio>Rob Zawrotny is a copywriter assisting Nursing CEUS in providing information to those looking to get a CEUS online. This summer Nashville Schools had to do this as well. The Nashville Schools' Board of Education, which included both the outgoing members from 2005-2006 and the incoming members from 2006-2007, reviewed the results from the Tennessee Adequate Yearly Progress. The results will help to pinpoint for Nashville Schools those areas that have improved and where continued progress is needed. Nashville Schools had both remarkable achievements in some areas and areas that continue to be a challenge. This is the third year that the majority of schools in the Nashville Schools have received a rating of Good Standing, the highest rating that can be given. The remaining schools had moved either up or down from the previous year. The number of schools in Good Standing was 81 which is the same number as last year.

Possibly the biggest gain this year for Nashville Schools is that some of the schools categorized as high poverty schools received Good Standing ratings. Two schools Kirkpatrick and Napier Elementary Schools achieved a Good Standing rating for the first time since the Tennessee Adequate Yearly Progress was established. These two schools are two of the highest poverty schools in Nashville School District. There ratings reflect the effort that the students, teachers, parents and principals put in last school year.

But many schools did not receive a rating of Good Standing or even the same rating as last year. Many of these schools received a lower rating than previously. This indicates that there are still lots of areas that still need improvement. Nashville Schools has made the commitment to strive for every school to receive a Good Standing rating. Each summer the Nashville Schools' Board of Education meets to determine what steps can be taken to improve the coming school year's scores. The difficulty is that there are a variety of factors that can influence the rating. A small adjustment in one area could affect the overall standing. With this in mind the Board tries to find a way to make every school a school that rates Good Standing.

One of the biggest concerns for the Nashville Schools' Board of Education is the size of the District. Nashville Schools currently has around 74,000 students and must provide educational opportunities that meet the needs of this student population. Nashville School District includes both Nashville and Davidson Counties, so there are logistic concerns also. Nashville Schools are very confident about how this school year will proceed. The Nashville Schools Board of Education is a nine member body that is elected at the end of every school year composed of educators, community leaders and administrators. The members are elected in a public vote by the citizens of the Nashville School District. The Board believes that there is a real potential for all the schools to gain ratings of Good Standing by summer of 2007. <bio>Stacy Andell is a staff writer for Schools K-12, providing free, in-depth reports on all U.S. public and private K-12 schools.
The answer is yes, and I am going to explain what a mother board is in this article so you can understand not only that they exist but also in what capacity that they exist. A mother board (or mobo for short) is the main circuit system in a complicated electronical system like a computer which is the most common thing in which they exist. It is the command station, if you will, and if you are going to add anything on to the system it will have to go through and be compatible with the mother board.

Since a computer is the most common location for a motherboard we will choose to describe the mother board as it relates to the computer. Usually it will consist of a processor (i.e. intel Pentium, or athalon, etc.), and a main memory, and then the circuitry that make it the main board.

Other names for the mother board of a computer include the main board, or the logic board, or the system board. It is the brain or the central nervous system of that machine what ever it may be. Other components of a computers hardware such as the monitor, or drives, or the keyboard, or the video card, or the modem (you get the idea but I need more words to give this article the proper length that is required) will be attached into the main board via wire connections. These devices need to be compatible with the system board if the user who installed them wants these devices to work on that computer. These devices are (in our previous analogy) the peripheral nervous system or the PNS that relays information to and from the CNS.

The reason that most people don't know much about the mother board is that they only worry about it when they are looking to buy a new computer. And even then it is not in the terms that are being explained here it is merely in terms of the components of the main board. How fast is the processor? How many megahertz? How much memory capacity does it have? How many gigs? This is a sad fact because the mother board is perhaps the most important part of the computer and works so well that it never even crosses the mind of the user normally. Yet it gets no credit where credit is due! <bio>Hallidae Thomason is a computer nut and wants everyone else to jump on the bandwagon.
As the costs for the favor of a college education continue to rise every year, is it any wonder that achieving a decent education is seen as a great privilege as opposed to a legitimate right?

The average cost at a private college last year for tuition, fees, room and board, was $30,207.00. The experts predict that the average cost will increase by 5% each year; enrollment at a more prestigious college will cost you even more.

In comparison, the average cost of a year's tuition, fees, room and board at a public university was $11,351, and if the experts are correct these prices will also rise 5% per annum.

The luxury of a good education is a valuable asset, though regardless of scholarships, grants, and federal loans, with these kinds of exorbitant costs you may need to consider alternative types of loans.

Taking out a loan to further your education might not be such a bad idea when it comes to filing your tax return; e.g. $2,500.00 of the interest on your student loan might be a deduction that will help reduce your taxable income, possibly resulting in a smaller tax bill.

These are some of the filing requirement conditions should you choose to itemize this deduction:

If you are married, you cannot file separately to get this tax break; you must file jointly.

You are not entitled to this deduction if you can be claimed as an exemption on anyone else's tax return.

The loan must have been taken out by you, your spouse, or a dependent (related; or who receives most of their support from you).

The educational institution must meet student aid program guidelines administered by the U.S. Department of Education.

The qualifying student must be enrolled at least half-time in a program that leads to a degree, or other educational credential (certificate).

The loan must have been taken out solely to pay for educational expenses.

The loan cannot be from an employer, or from a related person.

The expenses incurred/paid must be within a "reasonable amount of time" before or after you received the loan; i.e. must be traced to a particular academic period.

The loan must be used to pay qualified higher education expenses, such as tuition, fees, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, and other necessary expenses.

The importance of education is solidified by the large number of provisions that Congress incorporated in the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Act of 2001 (e.g. tax breaks for saving toward future education; help for parents with current education costs). However, unless Congress acts before December 31st, 2010, to renew, extend, or amend these provisions, the changes will automatically expire.

Keep in mind, that like many other tax breaks, the student loan interest deduction is limited by the IRS if you earn over a certain amount of money. The differing limitations, interactions and definitions of these provisions, along with the education benefits already in the Internal Revenue Code, make it more important than ever to hire a CPA who can analyze and evaluate which of the education tax benefits apply to your particular situation.

So as you stumble through the complications of tax planning, just remember that education is a valuable commodity, and "THE MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE!" <bio>"Your" Money Matters By Carl Hampton From the Author of "From Credit Despair To Credit Millionaire" http://www.CarlHampton.com http://www.fcdtcm.com </bio>

For those most passionate about their music, a job in music education is a natural fit. Far from being a case of andquot;those who can't do, teachandquot;, those who take music education jobs are talented not only as artists but as teachers who want to pass their love of music on to another generation, to ensure that there is always music in the world.

Once upon a time, a degree in music education was seen as a 'fallback option'- the job that would always be there if a performing or production career didn't work out. That time is long gone now as states have cut funding for enrichment education across the country. While the job outlook for music teachers is still good, the Occupational Outlook Handbook says that jobs for musicians and teachers will grow at about average or a little faster than average rates through 2014 - school departments, private institutions and universities have the luxury of being able to be choosy about whom they hire to fill music education jobs.

One of the best ways to hear about music education jobs and openings is to establish a network of contact within the music education community. While basic networking is good, there are ways to network more effectively to concentrate your focus on finding and improving your chances of being hired for music education jobs.

Network locally.

Lucky you, you actually have three different sources of local networking that can help you narrow your job search focus. As an educator, get involved in local organizations for teachers and get your name out there. If you've made contacts while interning and practice-teaching, keep up with them, and ask their advice and guidance in your career path. By all means, let them and others know that you're looking for a job in music education. Other teachers are often the first to know that one of their own is leaving.

School department contacts are invaluable.

In most cities, the school department must post vacancies internally before advertising them to the general public. Those vacancies are often posted on a bulletin board in each school within the district. Let teacher friends and contacts know that you're looking and ask them to keep an eye out for you. Knowing that a vacancy is posted internally can give you a leg up on the competition and cue you to submit your resume and cover letter for music education jobs before they're advertised.

Network online.

Join national and local music teachers associations online, particularly those that hold regular events, symposiums and have a discussion board. Many of them post job openings for members, and more than a few allow members to post job leads and requests for job leads on their boards. Some organizations that you might consider joining include:

Technology Institute for Music Educators (http://www.ti-me.org/)

Music Teachers National Association (http://www.mtna.org)

Teachers.net Chat boards (http://teachers.net/mentors/music/)

The National Association for Music Education (http://www.menc.org/)

Keep in mind that in networking, you get out what you put in. Don't just join a group and start soliciting for music education jobs. Look for what you can offer - the more you become involved the more visible you'll become and the more willing others will be to recommend jobs to you. <bio>Rita Henry is a contributing editor for Jobs In Music, the leading job and resource site for the Music Industry.
The Arts Education Master Plan

September 28 was the beginning of a new era for arts education in San Francisco schools. The San Francisco Unified School district and the City are partnering on a historic effort to bring back the arts for all students. The Arts Education Master Plan will revitalize the education of San Francisco's young citizens by capturing the diverse cultural and artistic energy of a city that is internationally renowned for its love of the arts.

At 10:30 a.m. at the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum, Mayor Gavin Newsom, SFUSD's Interim Superintendent Gwen Chan, and SF Arts Commission President P.J. Johnston joined members of the Board of Supervisors and SFUSD Board of Education, arts providers from across the city and students from Lowell High School, Claire Lilienthal and George Washington Carver Academic Elementary Schools in celebration of the Arts Education Master Plan.

"This master plan is a living document that exemplifies the partnership between the City and the school district on arts education," said Mayor Newsom. "San Francisco's efforts are unprecedented - and over the next few months, we will witness 'order of magnitude' changes in the arts education that children receive," continued the Mayor.

The Arts Education Master Plan is San Francisco Unified School District's blueprint for integrating the arts into each student's daily curriculum. The Plan calls for a sequential, comprehensive arts education program that reflects the high quality of San Francisco's artistic landscape in the areas of dance, drama, music, visual arts and literary arts. The guiding principle of this plan is that all students deserve both access to and equity in arts education and each school community, no matter the neighborhood or academic emphasis, will be called upon to embrace the notion that every student must be provided with the arts as an integral part of the academic day.

Interim Superintendent Gwen Chan said "In San Francisco, we are committed to providing every student with a well-rounded education. For too many years, some students have not had opportunities to develop artistic literacy. Every school and every student will benefit from this plan."

Community Involvement

The Master Plan reflects the views of more than 1,500 students, parents, teachers, administrators, arts providers, and civic and business leaders. Proposition H approved by San Francisco voters in 2004, became the catalyst, making the Arts Education Master Plan, completed in August 2006, a funded mandate. The extensive increase in arts education spending, programming, support and resources that the Plan recommends will be funded largely by Prop H funds. Additional funding, such as the new State funding for the arts, will be aligned to the Arts Education Master Plan.

The new plan will hopefully keep San Francisco school students in touch with the vibrant artistic community around them and help them to take advantage of the many enriching opportunities for art in the classroom and beyond. San Francisco schools are ready to implement the new curriculum program at all levels to ensure a consistent and fulfilling learning experience for all students. Students, parents, and teachers at San Francisco schools are confident that the Arts Education Master Plan will mark their community as one committed to continued arts education. <bio>Stacy Andell is a staff writer for Schools K-12, providing free, in-depth reports on all U.S. public and private K-12 schools.
Surprisingly enough, even in today's age of video games and "instant gratification" entertainment, board games are still wildly popular. And many would suggest that chess reigns supreme as one of the world's most popular board games, both in the U.S. and around the world.

Because of that, chess sets, chess pieces and related items still continue to be popular gifts. If you're in the market for a complete chess set, including both the pieces and a matching board, you'll find many suppliers online that provide you with chess set combinations that are already properly matched. But if you need a new chess board to go with an existing set of pieces, or you're looking for a set of pieces to play on an existing chess board, then it helps to know how to choose the right size product before you make your purchase.

Scenario #1: You Already Have Chess Pieces and Need a Chess Board to Match

As you shop around for chess boards online, you'll notice that most websites list the dimensions of the entire board as well as the size of the squares that the pieces sit on. The size of the board is somewhat important, but more from a standpoint of where you'll be placing the board (e.g., on a coffee table, in an office, etc). The more important factor for choosing the right board to match with your chess pieces is the size of the squares. First, you'll need to know the size of the base of the king. Then take that number and multiply it by 4/3 (or 1.33). That will tell you the MINIMUM sized squares you should look for when picking out your new chess board. Okay, at the risk of doing math in public, a quick example:

- Base of the King: 1.5"

- Minimum square size: 1.5" x 1.33 = 1.995"

In this example, a board with 2-inch squares or larger would be just fine. However, you don't want to go smaller since you run the risk of the pieces being too close together on the board, making them hard to move without bumping against each other. In addition, a board with squares that are way too large would just look out of proportion.

Scenario #2: You Already Have a Chess Board and Need Chess Pieces to Match

Of course, the other option is that you already have a chess board and simply need to find the right chess pieces to match. In this case, the procedure is just the opposite as above. You will need to know the size of the squares on your board. Then, simply take that number and multiply it by 3/4 (or 0.75). That will tell you the LARGEST measurement you would want in terms of the base of the king. Again, a quick example:

- Size of the squares on your board: 2.5"

- Maximum size of the base of the king: 2.5" x 0.75 = 1.875"

In this case, pieces with a base of 1.75" or even 1.5" would be appropriate, but obviously that great looking set of pieces with the 2-inch base might be pushing it a bit.

By following those simple tips, you'll see that finding the right size chess pieces or chess board is quick and easy. And wouldn't your math teacher be proud? <bio>Looking for a new chess board, chess pieces or chess set?
Have you ever played the bean bag game? You probably have, and you just don't remember. Most likely you played it in elementary school, in your physical education class. If you did and you've forgotten it's time you remembered how much fun it was. If you've never played it, it's time you learned how much fun it is. You can play it on your own, but it's usually more fun with friends and family members. However, if you want to learn to play it fairly well before you start enjoying the game with other people you might want to practice on your own for a little while. Whichever way you choose to handle it, playing the bean bag game -- which some people also call the Cornhole game -- can be a really enjoyable and rewarding experience. First, you have to learn how to play, and it's a simple thing to do. Basically you throw lightweight cloth bags at a hole in a board. If they go through, they score points. There is, of course, more to the game than that, or it wouldn't stay very interesting for very long.

The board for the bean bag game is usually constructed of either plastic or wood, but wooden boards are more common and more traditional. Plastic ones have been constructed recently because some people think that they hold up to the weather better. Others disagree and say that plastic boards don't perform well because they degrade in sunlight where wooden boards do not. Whatever your preference, you can learn to play the game on either kind of board, according to what you like. You can even build your own bean bag game board and make your own bags if you enjoy working with your hands that way. Bags can be hand-sewn, so there's no sewing machine required. Once you have a board and the bags that you need, you can start playing. There is a specific distance that you need to stand from the board, and you'll toss the bags -- which used to be filled with dried corn or dried beans but are today usually filled with plastic pellets -- toward the hole. If they go into the hole they are worth points. If they stay on the board but don't fall in they're also worth points, but just not as many.

Bags that don't hit the board at all or that don't stay on the board once they hit it don't score any points, and you need twenty-one points to win the game. You can play on your own, against another person, or in teams, making the game very versatile and fun for all ages. Since gatherings of family and friends usually have a lot of different age groups, the bean bag game is a good choice. It's not difficult, confusing, or physically strenuous, and everyone can play the game and enjoy it. There aren't that many games around today that young and old alike can play and enjoy. With that being the case, the bean bag game should have a place at family get-togethers for a long time to come.<bio>Dave Roth owns a site that sells cornhole products.
Many people, especially in the northern part of the country and out west, know about the bean bag toss. They played it in elementary school physical education classes, but they also played it just for fun -- and a lot of them still do. What they often don't know, however, is where it came from. This makes sense, because there are differing views and opinions. There are some who say it was started in Chicago, Illinois. There were others who say it was started in Cleveland, Ohio. These are the most common assumptions. In addition to those, there were also some other options for where people say the bean bag game started. One of these is Europe, with the most popular country of origin being Germany. However, this is not something that's seen to be very likely. Most serious bean bag game enthusiasts discount these rumors and focus on either Ohio or Illinois. Then they argue about the name. The bean bag toss or the bean bag game is one of the most widely accepted names. Another often-used name is the Cornhole game.

The name is something that people argue about, and so is whether the game is the same no matter what it's called. Technically, say some people, the bean bag game board is two feet by four feet and the Cornhole game board is three feet by four feet. The rules are also said to be modified just slightly. Not everyone agrees with that assumption, either. There are a lot of people who say that the Cornhole game and the bean bag game are the same thing. People who play the Cornhole game often use the smaller board so that they can transport it more easily. It will fit in the back of a pickup truck, but it will also fit in the trunk of a larger car. The bigger board usually won't go into a car trunk. However, some people are die-hard fans of the game by one name or the other, and they won't play with the board that they don't feel is the 'right' one for their game. Of course they are entitled to their opinion of the proper board and the proper name for what they choose to play and enjoy. Others who have differing opinions are also entitled to them, and most of the arguments over the issue are friendly ones.

The different names likely come from the idea that there were different fillings for the bags. Whether they were filled with dried corn or dried beans makes a difference. Now, however, most of the bags that are purchased for either game are filled with plastic pellets. This helps to keep the bags from being ruined because of problems like moisture, so they last longer. That's a great idea that makes the game a lot more enjoyable for a longer period of time. It also gives the game a better value for the money. For people who like to play the game most of the name and board size and bag filling issues aren't that relevant. No matter what it's called or how big the board is, it's fun for their friends and families.<bio>Dave Roth owns a site that sells cornhole products.
This would be a really great idea if it were really true. In some cases when you do a search for free education online you do get results, however after you go to the web site to see more about it, then you find the truth about free education online.

It is in fact free education online, however there are fees and other things you have to buy in order to take whatever it is you are wanting to learn more about.

Then, you go to a different site completely and find out that you can get a free education online, if you comply with certain college incentive programs.

So, where is the free education that applies, with no attachments of any kind? There are some but they are few and you really have to do some searching. That is if it is for something worth learning in the first place.

What I am trying to say is that yes, there is free education online in forms of typing or language skills, phonics, or some other easy thing. But is there really free education online without any type of cost. Where you take a full fledged course and receive a certificate or diploma as part of the free education online. I'm really not sure.

I have done a lot of research and it seems there is always something attached to the free education online that you find, and when you find a possible or maybe free education online, it is only for a certain amount of time and then after that you start paying if you don't complete the course in a certain time frame, then the free education online, becomes costly. You have gone so far, do they really think you are going to just quit? It just doesn't seem to make any sense at all.

Then, I found this course finder that says they will help you find free education online and all this other information, however, the so called course finder doesn't seem to be able to find any thing you are looking for in a free education online.

So ultimately, you try another and once again it seems you are being let on a wild goose chase once again.

There are free education online programs and other web sites you'll find, however as you get into the web site and read more into it, I have a feeling you will soon find the truth of the matter. Although some people really don't care, because once they get to the web site, they are so in to what the site has to offer they essentially aren't worried about the small fees they have to pay or the e books they have to buy and then download.

Somewhere I am sure there is free education online, because there are so many search results that I didn't check however, you need to have some time set aside to where you can check out several of the free education online web sites in order to find one that actually means what it says. For the most part, there seems to be a conflict in the image of free education online. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects.
If you like playing the Cornhole game, or if you haven't played it yet but have an interest in it and want to learn, one of the most enjoyable and educational things you could likely do is to build your own Cornhole board. If you're worried that this might be difficult, it's actually not. There are many things to do that are more complex, and if you have basic tools and woodworking skills you can build your own board with no problem. You can even get plans for free on the Internet. The plans are the first step in building your own Cornhole board, and you should make sure that you get plans that are good quality and have been created by someone who knows what he or she is doing. Anyone can put Cornhole board building plans out there on the Internet, but only those who've built boards and/or who sell Cornhole products really know whether those plans are good ones. Go to a reputable site and get your plans from there so you don't have to worry about having trouble later.

Once you've got your plans, make sure you spend time looking at them and understand them before you start building. You should know what you'll need in the way of tools, and you should also know what kinds of items you're going to need for actual construction. The wood for the board should be of a good quality and designed to hold up to the elements. Naturally it will be stained or painted to help protect it, but using cheap wood is still not a good idea. As much fun as it might be to make a Cornhole board, you still want it to last, and you don't want to have to make a new board all the time because the old one fell apart. This can take away from the joy of the game. After you have found the right plans for your Cornhole board and have selected your materials, you'll need to make sure you have all the tools that you need. It's best to do this before you start so that you don't run into problems in the middle of your work. Not having what you need when you need it could turn an otherwise-fun project into something tedious.

When your Cornhole board has been built you should stain or paint it in order to make sure that it's protected as much as possible from the elements. You can make it whatever color you want and you'll have the option to decorate it, make the edges fancy, or add your own touches to it. Just make sure that you make it the right size. If you ever want to compete in a Cornhole tournament you don't want to be practicing with the wrong size board! Take the time to make your Cornhole board the right way and you'll have hours of enjoyment with it, playing outside with your family. Sure, you can buy a Cornhole board and enjoy playing the game just as much, but the pride of building your own is something that you just can't get any other way.<bio>Dave Roth owns a site that sells cornhole products.
Backgammon is pretty much a race to see who can get their checkers off the board first. This can be accomplished easily but it depends on how you move your checkers around the board. Here we will look at some that can help you win and make your opponent a little dumbfounded.

While it may seem stupid to let yourself lose a piece to your opponent early on, it actually might be smart. In the beginning, you both have less pieces in your home board, and thus it's easier to get those checkers back into the game and around the board to your own home. The more pieces your opponent has in their home board later in the game, the harder it can be to get those back on the board to do anything. So leaving one or two checkers open can make it easier for you later when you have your checkers almost all home and on the way off the board to win.

Your distribution of checkers is a big part of how to win. You should try not to have six on any one point. Definitely don't have more than six; it makes you an easy target to get crunched in by your opponent. And while it would seem sound advice to have two checkers on four spots, it's actually not a good move. Better to have three checkers on two spots at once. This is because the dice seem to fall better for more even distribution and improves your chances of winning the game.

Blocking can be a crucial part of winning. It is best to block your opponent in your home board. Here they will have a harder time getting out as you bring more checkers in to go off the board. This strategy works if you start early and get six checkers inside your home board early. This way you can block your opponent in and still get your own pieces into your home board. Six in a row is called a prime in backgammon. The best places to try and block from are points 4, 5, and 7.

To make an impact against your opponent, hit as many pieces as you can. However don't just hit pieces to hit. Sometimes this can work against you. If your opponent has at least two bars in their home board, it is better for you to get your checkers home instead of taking out another checker of theirs. Don't hit if it will leave you open to hits or blocks yourself. This is counterproductive to actually winning.

The final strategy move to help you win is called anchoring. This is where you have a strong spot on their home board. It helps if you get hit, you have a strong spot, an anchor, to move your piece back on the board safely. It also keeps your opponent from being able to go out themselves. And if you have more than one anchor it can help if you are behind in points early on. As well as making you stronger against your opponent. If you do have two points make them adjacent to make it harder for your opponent to move on their home board.

All of this isn't guaranteed to make you win, but it can help you along the way. Used properly you can get 'lucky' rolls and make your opponent wonder just how long you have been playing. <bio>All of Shawn's backgammon strategy articles can be found at http://HomeBackgammon.com along with bonus codes, freeroll listings and tournament schedules. </bio>

There are many things in life that I care about, but there few things that I get passionate about enough to write about to people I don't know. One of the things that I just cannot talk enough about is education. I believe that everyone who lives in the West needs to understand the absolute privilege and value of education.

I became passionate about education when I lived next to a family growing up whose children didn't attend school. I have no idea the reasons why or even the legal ramifications of the situation, I just know that they did not go and that they never learned how to read or write. I remember feeling really sad about this even as a little girl. Sad because I didn't understand why I got to attend school and learn all these things when they couldn't. And sad because I knew somehow that their lives would be very different than mine because they didn't have the opportunity for an education.

I have continued to be passionate about education because I have a deep belief that education is the primary thing that leads to freedom in the lives of people, families and even nations. If you think about it, many of the choices you make each day would not be in your life if you hadn't had the education that has given you the abilities you have. For example, take reading alone. What would your life look like if you were unable to read? Pretty different, huh? It is the education you've had that has taught you to read and hence opened up an entire arena of possibility for your life.

What does this mean for you? Well, if you're reading this article than the chances are that you've had the privilege of an education and that you are able to work. It also means that you need to take that privilege seriously and use it wisely. Think about ways of continuing to learn. If you aren't a reader, then that is my first suggestion: become one. Become a person who enjoys the privilege of education by reading and learning all you can.

Another great way that you can use your education to impact other people is to teach them. See what programs exist at local schools and get involved with helping children in their earliest years of education. See what kind of impact you can make on lives simply because you have had the gift of an education. Education is far too costly a gift to be taken lightly or wasted. <bio>Julee Mitchelsin is an educator that believes strongly that education is a privilege.
For various reasons many parents decide to homeschool their children. Homeschooling can provide an enhanced learning experience that far surpasses what can be had in a public or private school system. There are many advantages to home schooling especially during the elementary years.

However, before you even consider homeschooling, you must make certain you are familiar with the laws governing homeschooling in your state and in your school district. You want to make sure you stay within the law because there can be serious consequences if you do not. Some of these consequences may even have an affect on whether your child will be accepted into postsecondary educational institutions especially if they are state run.

Homeschooling laws vary from state to state so you must know the laws as they pertain to you. There are certain states which are very homeschool friendly and if homeschooling will be your lifestyle for several years, you may want to consider moving to one of these states. There are also states on the other end of the spectrum which make it very difficult for families to homeschool. Inquire with you local school board, you will probably be required to register with the school board even though you are homeschooling. You might be asked to complete a letter of intent that you will be homeschooling your children and have to file the appropriate forms before the fall deadline each year.

Instead of navigating the maze of laws and bureaucracies on your own, seek help from your local homeschooling association chapter. They will be well familiarized with the laws and procedures for your area.

The law also requires that your children take standardized tests so your child can legally be assigned to a grade level in your school district.

You will also be required to keep certain homeschooling documents on file as well as coursework for a certain amount of time. It is possible in some of the more homeschooling unfriendly states that you will be subject to periodic audits of your homeschooling paperwork.

It really isn't difficult to follow the laws that are set forth by each state and even though you may not agree with them, it is in the best interest of your children to comply with the laws and make sure you understand them. It is your children's education future at stake if you if you don't follow the laws carefully and on time. <bio>Jennifer Petersen is a staff writer at http://www.education-digest.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.careers-digest.com. </bio>

When you give someone a promotional chopping board, you know that they are going to use it and that they are going to be reminded of your company and what you have to offer. They can be given one for an anniversary when they have been with the company for a certain length of time. If you have seen others do 360 flips and want to do them yourself this how to learn.

The 360 Flip

If you've followed the first of the skateboard trick tips and have learned how to do an Ollie, this trick will go more smoothly. This one is really cool, and looks impressive when you do it in front of your friends.

When you slam your back foot on the board just like when you do an Ollie, hit it extra hard in order to try and flip it.

While you're doing this, allow your front foot to slide off the board and use your toes to flip it that way as well.

Be careful while you're doing this trick, because it's easy to get jumbled up and fall. After you've managed the flip, you want to catch the board with your feet and center it again.

Don't forget to bend your knees no matter which of the skateboard trick tips you're doing.

With all tricks, it will help you absorb the shock of the landing so you won't be injured. You can try and learn these tricks on a stationary board, as it may be easier.

Just place your board on grass or some other textured surface to keep it from moving. Once you've learned to do these tricks on a board that's not moving, you should practice them with the board rolling.

If you want to see some online instructional videos check out http://www.skateboardtricktips.net If you follow the skateboard trick tips above, you'll look like a pro in no time. <bio>Amy J is creator of http://www.skateboardtricktips.net Visit and discover how to take your skateboarding level from poser to pro. </bio>

If you want to do something fun with your family but you've run out of ideas, why not build a Cornhole set? Not everyone knows about Cornhole, but it's a great game, and it's something that everyone can play, regardless of age or activity level. The rules are easy to follow and the game itself is not in any way confusing or physically strenuous. The player simply stands a specific distance from the Cornhole board, and he or she tosses small cloth bags, one at a time, at a hole in that board. Some people also call this game the bean bag toss or the bean bag game. You might have played it in your elementary school physical education class. Your children probably did, too. And your parents might have, as well. If the tossed bags, which are gently weighted so that they can be thrown far enough, go through the hole they are worth points. Bags are also worth points if they land on the board and don't go through the hole, as long as they don't fall off.

Bags that fall off the board, or bags that miss the board entirely, don't score any points. Players take turns, and the first person to twenty-one points wins the game. People can also play the Cornhole game in teams if they want to, and a lot of dedicated players also organize tournaments where people can play for cash and prizes. For most people, tournaments are not part of their game plan. They just want something that they can play with their family and enjoy. Some people even play it on their own and find it a very enjoyable one-person activity, similar to those people who get out a deck of cards and play solitaire. The Cornhole set -- both bags and boards -- can be bought online quite easily. A lot of people choose this route because they get their set fast. They can also choose from some different colors for their bags and they can get either a wooden or a plastic board. There are arguments as to which one of these materials is the best choice for the board. Mostly, it comes down to a matter of personal preference.

For people who want to make their own Cornhole set, they'll need basic tools. They also need a few easy woodworking skills and they should be able to sew the bags. You don't have to have a sewing machine, either. You can just sew the bags by hand. As for making the board, there are very easy instructions that you can get for free on the Internet. Just make sure you get them from a reputable place so that you're happy with your Cornhole game. It will turn out right and the instructions won't be so confusing if you take the time to make sure you're getting good information. It's not that difficult to make a Cornhole game, so you really shouldn't have any trouble with it. Just take your time, let your family help you, and enjoy making your very own Cornhole game. It's an experience now and a fun time for years to come.<bio>Dave Roth runs a site that sells cornhole games. In addition to free building dimensions and rules, the site also carries discount cornhole bags boards.</bio>

Playing backgammon can be fun, especially if you know how to win by playing effectively. But sometimes a tip or two can help you even more and make you a better player.

One of the best strategies to win is to block your opponent in. It will keep them from moving their <a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/checkers" rel="tag">checkers out of your home board and going out. This must be done early in the game to keep your opponents two checkers in your home board there. So you must move your checkers to points 7, 5, and 4 as quickly as possible and even 2 and 3 if possible. Keep your point of 6 with the six checkers where it is. This will ensure that your opponent can't get out of your home board and help your chances of blocking them in to win.

By blocking your opponent in, they will be praying for double sixes once all other moves have been made to get those two checkers out of your home board. If doubles aren't rolled, your opponent will be forced to move one checker at a time, as long as they get a six or better, and leave one checker vulnerable behind. Of course while veering off your own checkers, make sure you don't leave one alone where your opponent can send you off the board to go through their side.

When in doubt, hit. This can help you win because once your opponent is hit, that checker is the piece they must move before they can do anything else on the board. So if you hit them multiple times, they will have to get several pieces back on the board and get past your checkers to win. Make sure you do not hit where it will make you vulnerable to being hit yourself. Unless of course it will be advantageous to you, as in early in the game when your opponent won't have you blocked in.

Hitting when you have a block started can also be good because once you get several spots blocked, your opponent will have a harder time getting their checkers out of your home board and beating you. It is even possible to hit them several times and get your block set. That way you can block them from returning to the game board and even having a chance at beating you.

These two tips are not the only way to win, but they are good ideas for beginners to become better players. Once you master these, winner most of the time will not seem like such a hard thing to do. <bio>All of Shawn's backgammon strategy articles can be found at http://HomeBackgammon.com along with bonus codes, freeroll listings and tournament schedules. </bio>

If you have the important responsibility of determining what schooling situation is best for your children, then please take your time and make an informed decision based on as much research as you can handle. There are quite a few options these days, which is all the more a good reason for parents to take seriously the job of providing the best possible education for their children. Public education, Christian education, and homeschooling are just three of many options available to families today.

Many Christian couples will opt to send their children through the Christian education system without giving it much thought. It is a Christian program, after all, so what could be the problem, right? This happens in much the same way that non-Christian parents don't think twice about sending their children to publich school. And while I am not suggesting that Christian education is a poor choice, I am saying that it is a choice to be considered among other good choices.

There are obvious benefits to choosing Christian education for children. First and foremost, there is no better place for children to be introduced to the foundational beliefs of Christianity that during the school day as they grow up. So if you place a high priority on your children being raised in the faith that you believe in, then you should take a good look at the Christian education options in your area. See if there is more than one Christian school available and find out which program best fits the needs and beliefs of your family.

Be warned, however, that sometimes choosing Christian education for your kids means sacrificing a little bit in the actual education that they will learn. This is not always the case, thankfully, but I am learning that quite often Christian education systems put things like math or science on the backburner in the hopes of really focusing in on faith issues and on how to live as Christians in a non-Christian world.

What is the best choice for your family? No one can make that but you. All I can tell you is not to make a choice about Christian education or public education quickly. Take your time, do some research, and talk to parents you trust that have put their kids through Christian education and public education to see what they would suggest. You will have to pick and chose on some things, so just begin to gather ideas and figure out what things you are and are not willing to compromise on. <bio>Hallidae Thomason is a consultant for parents trying to make the best education choices for their kids.
