Every healthy diet should include lots of fruits =96 including different kind of berries. The Fiber35 Diet is no exemption from this rule. The fiber35 diet actually uses a lot of fruits to help you to increase the daily amount of fiber you consume. Berry fruits are a great source of (good) fiber for your body. Berries do not only contain fiber, but they also contain healthy nutrients that help to fight certain diseases. If you opt for colorful berries like blueberries and blackberries, you will discover that they are full of phytonutrients. Especially the skin of smaller blueberries carries a lot phytonutrients. Phytonutrients contains powerful antioxidants that can help you to fight diseases. These antioxidants are also called anthocyanins and cancer fighters. Blueberries are a great example that color makes your life richer: the darker the color, the better (healthier) the berry for you. By now you know that Blueberries are high in the soluble fiber. One cup of Blueberries has about 4 grams of dietary fiber.

Blueberries have the highest antioxidant concentration of berry fruits due to the high level of anthocyanins in the blueberry's dark skin. Bilberries as an example have anthocyanins in the flesh as well as in their skin. But consumer beware - not all blueberries are created equal. The smaller, wild blueberries have much more skin and less water than the artificially cultivated blueberries that grow on farms. Because most of the health-promoting pigment is in the skin, the smaller the berry, the more anthocyanins. As a rule of thumb - when it comes to these blue-ish benefits, bigger is certainly not better.

What are great tasting ways to eat Blueberries? Blueberries can be easily mixed into many recipes. Blueberries are a great add-on in pancakes, muffins, breakfast cereal, taste great blended into smoothies and shakes. I personally eat one cup 3 or 4 times a week mixed into my breakfast cereal. Here are a few quick and easy serving ideas: Add frozen blueberries to your breakfast shake. It's colorful and refreshing. Fresh or dried blueberries add great taste to cold breakfast cereals. Blueberry pie, cobbler and muffins are all-time favorites that can be enjoyed throughout the entire year. There is no need for a holiday or a specific season to start eating Blueberries. <bio>Since being fighting higher cholesterol levels, Chris Puetz has found a lot of help in the Fiber35 Diet.
Many people do not realize just how good for you berries really are. Besides being a tasty treat that's low in calories, berries are a very important part of a nutritious diet. They are valuable in fighting many diseases and conditions such as cancer, hypertension, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, and heart disease.

Antioxidants

Strawberries and darker berries such as blueberries and blackberries are extremely high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are helpful in delaying the aging process and reducing wrinkles. Antioxidants can help you feel better and look better.

Phytochemicals

Berries contain phytochemicals. Phytochemicals can be very effective in preventing major diseases such as diabetes and cancer. Phyochemicals are also effective at reducing the effects of existing conditions or diseases.

Raspberries, blueberries and cranberries can reduce your risk of

infection of the bladder. Raspberries can prevent the growth of more than 12 different kinds of bacteria, including the yeast that causes yeast infections. Straberries, mulberries, red raspberries and blueberries have also proven effective in fighting cancer of many different types.

Vitamin C

Berries are among the best sources of vitamin C in the world. Strawberries, cranberries, currants, gooseberries, and loganberries are also very high in vitamin C. Vitamin C helps to keep your body's immune system strong and healthy and it assists in the formation of strong connective tissue. The assistance with the immune system is why vitamin C is recommended to those who are sick.

Lutein

Blueberries and raspberries also contain components that will improve our vision. Lutein is also very effective at preventing age related macular degeneration or AMD.

Benefits of Blueberries (I Love Blueberries)

Blueberries also promote the healthy production of collagen within your body. Your bruises will often heal faster if you eat a large number of blueberries. You can also enjoy a reduced risk of unsightly varicose veins. Blueberries can delay memory loss and the loss of motor skills. Research has shown them effective in reducing the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. Every berry seems to have it's own positive effects so I recommend eating a great variety of berries! Blueberries are my personal favorite though so that's why they get their own section in this article.

In Conclusion

I personally don't need any more reason to eat berries than the fact that they are delicious. But it sure is nice to know that some of my favorite things to eat in the world are also very good for me. Next time you want something sweet have some berries instead of junk food like ice cream and candy bars. <bio>Leslie M.
Incorporating the following foods into your diet will help improve or prevent a lot of aliments as you age. This includes symptoms of menopause, osteoporosis and memory. These foods are tasty and can be easily prepared.

Tofu

Most soy products will alleviate the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes. Tofu can be another source of protein in the diet. It helps lower cholesterol that may cause heart disease.

Navy Beans

Navy beans are a good source of fiber. Fiber reduces the possibility of various types of cancer including colon cancer. It also reduces the symptoms of diverticulosis. The recommended amount of fiber per day for a woman is thirty grams. You can add them to chili or as a side dish.

Yogurt

Yogurt contains a lot of calcium and this prevents osteoporosis. Studies show that yogurt can also help maintain weight loss and give a boost to your immune system. It contains the bacteria acidophilus which prevents urinary tract and yeast infections. Yogurt is a source of protein. This is good for menopause symptoms such as weariness after a hot flash episode. Blueberries

Studies show that blueberries may improve short term memory and they are full of antioxidants. You can add them to your yogurt for an added punch of nutrients. The yogurt (as mentioned above), would benefit your bones and the blueberries will give a boost to your brain.

Avocado

Avocado is another source of antioxidants. It contains vitamin E. Vitamin E becomes more important to your skin and eyes as you get older. Avocados are full of monounsaturated fats and this improves the skin and hair. You could add avocado to your turkey sandwich or make a snack of guacamole and low fat baked tortilla chips.

Other changes in your diet that will help your overall condition are a good nights sleep; and cutting out cigarettes and alcohol. Too much sodium or fat will affect your health no matter what age, but if you are going through menopause, they aggravate the situation. <bio>Miranda Thompsen is a staff writer at http://www.retirementplanningdigest.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.aging-guide.com. </bio>

Current research has shown that a number of readily available foods such as berries and citrus fruits that make up a healthy diet, actually have a major impact on cancer prevention. These cancer fighting foods seem to have the ability to interfere with the development of cancerous tumors. Cancer fighting foods all contain large amounts of certain phytochemicals. Phytochemicals were developed by nature to protect plants against damage caused by insects, disease and environmental stress. These phytochemical molecules are the ones that give fruits and vegetables their brilliant colors, provide the smell to garlic and the bitter taste to tea. It is very likely that these phytochemicals, not the vitamins and minerals, that are the source of the cancer prevention capabilities of these healthy foods.

Most berries are great sources of polyphenol phytochemicals which provide antioxidants and cancer prevention capability. These berries include: raspberries, wild blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, and blackberries. Even when berries aren't in season you can add frozen berries or dried cranberries to your breakfast cereal. Frozen fruits and vegetables are just as healthy as fresh fruits and, of course, can retain their nutritional value during the off growing seasons.

Raspberries contain large amounts of ellagic acid which is a powerful cancer fighting phytochemical compound. This molecule is a member of the polyphenol family of phytochemicals which seem to be able to control the growth of tumors. In addition, raspberries contain other polyphenols such as anthocyanidins which are responsible for the very strong antioxidant potential found in berries.

Wild blueberries or low bush blueberries are smaller, more compact and have a more intense flavor than their cultivated cousins. They also have much more antioxidant capacity and anthocyanin, proanthocyanidin and phenolic phytochemicals than cultivated blueberries. Wild blueberries have the most antioxidant potential of all fruits followed by cranberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries. The anthocyanidin and proanthocyanidin phytochemicals contained in wild blueberries, strawberries and cranberries are powerful antioxidants. It is the anthocyanidins in blueberries and raspberries that seem to inhibit cancer development.

Strawberries are another good source of polyphenol phytochemicals such as proanthocyanidin although they contain less ellagic acid than raspberries. Strawberries have about the same antioxidant potential as raspberries.

Cranberries are close cousins of the blueberries and have similar antioxidant and anti-cancer capabilities. Apart from accompanying turkeys at Thanksgiving and Christmas, cranberries are mostly consumed in the form of juice. Unfortunately because the cranberry is so acidic, large quantities of sugar are added to make the juice more palatable. Dried cranberries can also be added as a topping for cereals or fruit deserts.

Finally some mention should be made of the citrus fruits that make up the orange family. These include oranges, lemons, grapefruit and mandarin oranges. The orange family not only contains polyphenols like the berries discussed above but also terpenes. The phytochemical compounds found in citrus fruits seem to reduce the risk of developing digestive tract cancers. People taking prescription drugs, especially statins, have to avoid grapefruit as it doubles the amount of medication in the bloodstream and increases the side effects. Citrus fruits are excellent sources of vitamins and minerals but also phytochemicals that are required in a cancer prevention diet.

Eating a healthy balanced diet can provide our bodies with thousands of different phytochemicals every day. However not all fruits, vegetables and other plant products provide the best anti-cancer phytochemicals. The ten best groups of anti-cancer foods are discussed in our website www.benefits-of-antioxidants.com . They include: berries and citrus fruits, cruciferous vegetables, garlic and onions, green tea, omega-3 essential fatty acids, olive oil, tomatoes, soy products, red wine and dark chocolate. <bio>Mark Ransome is a contributing editor and writer for the popular new website -- http://www.benefits-of-antioxidants.com.
Very few historical records exist on ancient blueberry culture in the Greek and Roman empires. Those cultures did use parts of the blueberry plants and fruit to eat or to treat ailments. The size and flavor of native blueberry plants was extremely variable, and the USDA, modern, extensive research and development of choice selections was judged on a basis of taste, yield of plants, aroma, small berry seeds, and the lasting quality of the fresh berries increased the popularity of this fruit in a period of fifty years as one of America's favorite agricultural products.

William Bartram, the early American botanist and explorer, reported seeing various members of the native blueberry plant relatives, Vaccinium varietas, as he and his father, John Bartram took an inventory of plants to establish on Georgia farms in his book, Travels, in 1773.

Luther Burbank was perhaps America's most prolific hybridizer of fruits, and he imported many native species of blueberries, Vaccinium Spp., from other countries and reported in his book, Small Fruits in 1921, that very little improvement had been made to produce a commercially, improved blueberry bush. In recent years the USDA has released excellent yielding blueberries that, when fully ripened, are sweetly flavored, aromatically pleasing, and easy to harvest. Some cultivars of blueberry plants can be machine harvested. Fresh blueberries are available in United States markets, beginning in April and extending until October.

Recent reports from health researchers have shown that blueberry fruit is higher in antioxidants than any other fruit or vegetable. These antioxidants block the presence of chemically charged particles called, "free radicals," that are believed to be the threat that initiates disease problems. The antioxidants are believed to be important in preventing cancer, stroke, heart disease, and loss of memory resulting from Alzheimer's disease. Chemically active anthocyanin pigments found in blueberries can improve failing eyesight and can prevent macular disintegration resulting from aging.

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, blueberries fight urinary tract infections and help to prevent eye macular degeneration, says Dr. Ronald Prior, director of the USDA. Early Indian culture in America taught that eating blueberries was good for coughs, and the blueberry bush leaves were used as a tea and health tonic. The North American Blueberry Council says that blueberry juice has higher concentrations of antioxidants than any of the 40 juices tested. Other health benefits from blueberries are Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin C, Niacin, and the minerals calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron.

Blueberries are loved by animals, birds, and many types of wildlife, such as deer, duck, and even bears. The berries provide wildlife a source of food over a very long period of feeding, when food is scarce at off season periods. Birds sometimes can be a pest to the backyard blueberry gardener, but the bird's appetite can be overcome by either the use of a screen netting to protect and cover the blueberry bushes, or a gardener can plant enough blueberry bushes for his own growing needs and the birds as well.

Blueberries are expected to rapidly become the most sought-after small fruit on the American market. Fifty percent of blueberries are grown for the fresh fruit market and Canada grows 25% of the world demand for blueberries. Growing blueberry plants is easy, but the culture differs considerably from growing other fruits and berries.

If a blueberry gardener understands the origin of wild blueberry plant occurrence, it is easy to predict the soil requirements necessary to successfully grow blueberries. The blueberry plants are found in the wild, growing on very poor, sandy soil with roots that surround the underground layers of decayed organic matter. The acidity or pH level is very low for wild blueberry plants and the bushes prosper in this acid environment. Fertilizer kills more blueberry plants than any other single thing. Blueberry commercial production is highest in Michigan, followed by Maine, New Jersey, Oregon, and Georgia. It is truly amazing that the blueberry can be grown in the South into Florida and then northwards to Arctic North America. Most blueberries are cross pollinated by insects such as bees and bumblebees. Most gardeners plant at least two different cultivars of blueberry plants for the additional advantages of extending the ripening season. Gardeners love planting a berry with no thorns to prick fingers at picking time, the occurrence of tiny seeds that aid in digestion, and the enjoyment of seeing the kaleidoscope of rainbow colors during the winter after the first freeze. Blueberry plants are among the most cold tolerant of all the small fruits, and in the South, the plants often only lose the leaves for a month, often blooming as early as January. Even if the flowers of blueberries freeze, a second wave of flowering will follow during later warm-ups in the weather.

Basically three types of blueberry are grown commercially in the United States; the Northern Highbush blueberry, Vaccinium corymbosum L.; the Southern Rabbiteye blueberry, Vaccinium ashei; and the Lowbush blueberry, also called the Wild Lowbush blueberry, Vaccinium angustifolium.

The Northern Highbush blueberry, Vaccinium corymbosum L., is grown in zones 4 to 7. Much of the early production appearing at blueberry markets came from native blueberry plants, but new cultivars of Northern Highbush blueberry plants are very promising, such as: Bluejay blueberry, Bluecrop blueberry, Blueray blueberry, Jersey blueberry, and Patriot blueberry.

USDA blueberry releases for Southern Rabbiteye blueberry, Vaccinium ashei, have been numerous. These include the older cultivars: Southland, Woodard, Bluebelle, Blue Gem, and more recent blueberry releases are Tiftblue, Climax, Delite, Brightblue, Brightwell, Bonita, Powderblue, and Austin blueberry.

The Lowbush or Wild Blueberry, Vaccinium angustifolium, is the most cold hardy type of blueberry, and commercially the plants are dwarf and only grow 1 to 2 feet tall. Most are not improved varieties, but variable native bushes. One modern Lowbush blueberry release is "Top Hat" blueberry, and the state of Maine accounts for the largest production of Lowbush blueberry bushes adaptable in zones 3 to 6.

In Florida and other various hot sections of the United States, many of these blueberry species have been interhybridized and complexly mixed to produce a wide array of plants adapted for hot climates. These cultivars are Beckyblue blueberry, Aliceblue blueberry, Sharpblue blueberry, Floridablue blueberry, Avonblue blueberry, Blue Ridge blueberry, Cape Fear blueberry, Gulf Coast blueberry, O'Neal blueberry, and Georgia Gem blueberry. These blueberry plants are best grown in zones 7 to 10.

Blueberries have many valuable gourmet food uses as in blueberry pancakes, blueberry pies, blueberry jam, blueberry juice, frozen and canned blueberries, and drying under vacuum, the blueberries can last for years to be rehydrated to eat in cereals and other things. These dried blueberries are especially promising for use in Army K ration canning in foreign countries. <bio>Patrick A. Malcolm, owner of TyTy Nursery, has an M.S. degree in Biochemistry and has cultivated berry plants for over three decades. http://www.tytyga.com </bio>

ASAP Plant Minerals gives plants the ability to manufacture phytochemicals essential to human health. Minerals facilitate phytochemical synthesis in plants, and it is well acknowledged that soil has been stripped of most of these minerals of the past 50 years. Minerals act directly or act as co-factors in the chloroplasts cells of plants which are natures pharmaceutical factory. At this point we know that the plant kingdom can produce over 4000 flavonoids and 25,000 phytochemicals. This is dependent on the concentration of micro-minerals in soil. There is a direct relationship to the nutrient content in food and the nutrient content in soil. Many of the nutrient minerals in soil are taken into roots, stems, leaves, fruit and nuts. Plant made nutrients, like vitamins, are dependent on these same minerals. Here are some foods with some of the best phytomchemicals!

Avocados: The green fruit with smooth, oily flesh confuses many people. It is high in calories and some people mistakenly believe the fat content raises cholesterol in the body. But the phytochemical beta-sitosterol makes the opposite true. Beta-sitosterol is one of the phytosterols - the equivalent in plants of cholesterol in animals. Because it is so similar in structure to cholesterol, beta-sitosterol competes with cholesterol for absorption into the body - and wins. The result is lower cholesterol in the bloodstream. Avocados also have more of the phytochemical glutathione than the other common fruits - three times more than oranges which have the second highest level. As an antioxidant, glutathione helps neutralize free radicals that can cause cell damage in the body leading to cancer and heart disease.

Blueberries: The blue in blueberries holds one of the keys to the fruit's health benefits. The pigment, called anthocyanin, is a cancer-fighting antioxidant. While some fruits contain a few types of anthocyanins, blueberries have as many as 30 types and some in large concentrations. Besides their cancer-fighting compounds, blueberries contain a powerful anti-inflammatory agent called cyanidin which is helpful to arthritis sufferers.

Broccoli: The key protective compound in broccoli (glucoraphanin, which the body turns into sulforaphane) is at least 20 times more concentrated in 3-day-old broccoli sprouts than it is in broccoli. A single ounce of sprouts has as much glucoraphanin as 1.25 pounds of cooked broccoli offering a simpler means of consuming potentially healthful quantities. Sulforphane triggers the production of phase II enzymes that detoxify cancer-causing chemicals and are among the most potent anti-cancer compounds known. When indole compounds in broccoli are digested and broken down by the stomach they turn into a compound called diindolylmethane or DIM, according to Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University. "DIM suppresses human breast cancer cell growth by preventing cancerous cells from dividing and multiplying. In addition, beyond preventing the actual spread of the disease, DIM also promotes the death of existing tumor cells by altering levels of certain proteins that keep tumor cells alive".

Cherries: The antioxidant anthocyanin found in blueberries also is present in cherries which gives the sweet fruit anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory qualities. In fact, cherries have the highest level of anthocyanins of all fruits making them comparable to low doses of ibuprofen and naproxen in helping to deal with inflammation. Cherries also are rich in two flavonoids, isoqueritrin and queritrin. Queritrin is one of the most potent anti-cancer agents ever discovered. There are other substances, yet unidentified, in cherry juice that may help prevent tooth decay.

Grapes: Grapes join blueberries in fruit that contains anthocyanins but grapes also are the leading fruit containing the antioxidant resveratrol, a phytochemical that helps grapes fight fungus as they grow. Resveratrol is converted in the body to a known anti-cancer agent that can selectively target and destroy cancer cells. Concord grapes contain the most antioxidants. Concord grape juice has four times the antioxidant power of orange, tomato and grapefruit juice.

Spinach: Only kale and collard greens have more of the carotenoid lutein than spinach. Lutein is an antioxidant in the eye. Since the body uses lutein to manufacture yet another antioxidant, the carotenoid zeaxanthin, you get two for the price of one. Spinach contains two vital antioxidants, gluthathione and alpha-lipoic acid. Though the body manufactures these antioxidants on its own, the self-production slows down as the body ages. Without gluthathione the body dies. Gluthathione detoxifies pollutants and carcinogens, maintains a healthy liver, boosts the immune system, aids in healthy cell replication, by repairing damaged DNA, and reduces chronic inflammation. The other anti-oxidant, alpha-lipoic acid, guards against stroke, heart attacks and cataracts and it strengthens memory. It turns off genes that can accelerate aging and cause cancer and helps the body break down sugar for energy production. Spinach is the most potent in protecting different types of nerve cells in various parts of the brain against the effects of aging.

It is clear, if you want to raise crops with these phytochemicals in abundance you need to use ASAP in your soil. ASAP Plant Minerals contains all the critical 14 essential minerals plants need to manufacture phytochemicals. <bio>August Dunning is the head Research Director at http://www.asaporganics.com </bio>

Found in the Amazon Rainforest, the açaí berry is but one of the fruits located there and has recently been dubbed a "super berry". The rainforest is a perfect location for it, since the açaí berry prospers in swampy or floodplain areas. It comes from a palm tree and is known as the "Tree of Life" to the Brazilians because of its ability to provide an abundance of healthy food.

The açaí berry shares a lot of similarities with grapes. It looks a lot like them and even tastes a bit like them. The berry is the size of a large blueberry, formed like a grape and tastes different to each person. Some would say that it tastes like a wild raspberry, with a hint of grape. Others believe that it tastes like blueberries, ice cream and chocolate. You will have to try it and decide for yourself what you believe it tastes like. It comes off the trees in bunches and offers a variety of benefits, including antioxidants, fiber, fatty acids and more. The antioxidants from the berry are much higher than those found in red wine (at least 20 times more) or blueberries (at least two times more). It is rumored to have the best nutritional value of any fruit on earth.

Because the fruit does not last long after it is harvested, it is mostly available to anyone outside of the Amazon as a juice or frozen. It also cannot be eaten in raw form, but rather in pulp form. That has not stopped its popularity. The dark, purple skin is what contains a majority of the healthy benefits. The natives of Brazil have been passing down recipes to create purees, which you can warm as a sauce over grains or entrees like meat and fish. The açaí berry can also be frozen for a sorbet-like dessert.

The benefits of the açaí berry, as well as the media coverage it has received, have made research into this fruit a top priority. Researchers at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro have discovered that açaí extract can be used to fight infection, like the parasitic infection schistosomosis which affects 10 million Brazilians each year and the common bacterial infection staphylococcus aureus. The University of Florida also did a study which investigated the effect of the berries on human cancer cells. The study showed that the berries triggered a self-destruct response in up to 86 percent of leukemia cells tested. There is still no proof that the berry will prevent cancer. More studies are going on all of the time to research the benefits of this amazing berry.

In Brazil, a majority of the population lives on the açaí berry. In fact, they consume more açaí than milk. Açaí shops, that sell only açaí, can be found on almost every street corner is the more populated areas of Brazil. With the popularity of the açaí berry spreading to Europe and the United States, it will not be long before açaí shops are opening around the world. There are already several companies and websites that offer products using açaí solely or with other fruits or plants. <bio>David Walters is an avid reader and loves to learn more about tropical fruits.
It's well known that exercise burns calories, but regular exercise also stimulates the activity of fat-burning enzymes. The exciting news is that leptin can also stimulate these enzymes, which increases metabolic rate even when not exercising. Leptin is a hormone that exists naturally in the body. It is not a drug.

Since people burn up to two-thirds of calories used each day at resting metabolic rate, boosting resting metabolism is the key to sustained weight loss.

The Fat Resistance Diet presents a weight loss program that makes leptin work, stimulating metabolism to burn more calories throughout the day.

This diet plan combines the latest in scientific research on weight loss with meal plans and recipes that are designed to maximize flavor and satisfaction. The Fat Resistance Diet is the first diet plan that uses nutrition to boost metabolism, facilitating healthy weight loss without drugs.

By enjoying Fat Resistance Foods such as tart blueberries, tangy pomegranate juice, and crunchy walnuts, you will be able to lose weight and get the body you want.

Boost metabolism in five easy steps from the diet plan:

1) Maximize Flavor and Nutrition

Fat Resistance Foods have the most flavor and nutritional value for the calories consumed and form a key part of the diet plan. These foods are rich in one or more of the dietary elements that help metabolism, including vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, fiber, and Omega-3 fatty acids. Delicious choices such as blueberries, tomatoes, extra-virgin olive oil, and fresh herbs make eating healthy a pleasure.

2) Use Healthy Omega-3 Oils

Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids are essential to the healthy functioning of body and brain. Omega-3s help heal inflammation, making leptin work properly and increasing metabolism. These healthy fats contribute to a youthful appearance, making skin, hair, and nails healthy. Sources of Omega-3s include ground flax seed, walnuts, and beans, as well as fish, especially salmon or tuna.

3) Enjoy 9 or 10 Servings of Fruit and Vegetables Each Day

A successful weight loss program finds delicious ways to include fruits and vegetables in every meal. Choose fruits and vegetables with deep colors and intense flavors that reflect their high content of anti-inflammatory phytonutrients, like carotenoids and flavonoids. The deepest red and blue flavonoids found in the jewel-like colors of blueberries, cherries, and pomegranate boost metabolism by helping leptin work properly.

4) Skip Artificial Sweeteners and Diet Sodas

The use of artificial sweeteners undermines an effective weight loss program. Studies show that artificial sweeteners interfere with weight loss by interfering with the body's ability to regulate the intake of calories. Furthermore, we are concerned about the potentially harmful and toxic effects of artificial sweeteners. So steer clear of sugar substitutes and diet sodas. Instead, enjoy a diet plan that uses fruit, fruit juice, and fruit concentrates for flavor and nutrition.

5) Indulge in Healthy Snacks and Desserts

Snacks satisfy hunger, and desserts add fun and satisfaction to a diet plan. Our weight loss program encourages indulgence in healthy choices. Enjoy delicious snacks such as crunchy walnuts or almonds, and dessert treats made from fruit and yogurt. <bio>Director of The Foundation For Integrated Medicine, Leo Galland M.D.is an award-winning lecturer and author of many scientific articles and chapters for medical textbooks.
Are you stuck for packed lunch idea? Aware that certain fats are bad but not sure how to avoid them? Well, read on because you will find lots of tips and ideas for healthy packed lunches.

As a parent, you might have gone through the anxiety of wanting to give your child health packed lunches, but also providing something that they will actually eat. After all, a child that won't eat their packed lunch is probably just as unhealthy as one that eats a packed lunch made up of junk. It's a huge pressure -- I know all too well - but there are certain things you can do to help ease the stress of it all.

The key is in the word "balance" -- making sure that your child has all the essential nutrients to help them be healthy and grow, but a little bit of naughtiness so that they don't get hung up about food and see it as being a bad thing.

Lunchbox ideas:

Sandwiches -- ideally, these should contain protein (cheese, meat or egg) plus either a vegetable or fruit - if your child won't eat veg, adding fruit to sandwiches gives a bit of sweetness and adds to their five a day. Using relish or salad cream/mayonnaise will also make it more flavoursome. For example: cream cheese and banana, cheddar and tomato relish, chicken and thinly sliced tomato, ham and tomato, egg mayo with sultanas, chicken and grapes (try it!).

Bread -- well we all know that white bread is no good. To try and wean children off white bread if they won't eat anything else, try making sandwiches out of one slice brown and one slice white -- you could even make this into a bit of fun, let them know that it's a special sandwich for a super special child!

Fruit -- children are much more likely to eat fruit if it is already chopped and in its own container or Tupperware, rather than if you give them a whole piece of fruit which can be a bit daunting. Try a mixture of grapes, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries for children that "don't like fruit" or the more traditional mix of orange, grape and apple (squirt a little lemon over it to help stop it turning brown) for those that do.

Snacks -- hummus with carrot sticks, cheese slices and tomato, nuts with dried fruit, homemade cake made with honey (instead of sugar) and banana, root vegetable crisps instead of potato ones (look in larger supermarkets).

If you involve your children in making snacks at the weekend, they may be more likely to eat them in their packed lunch. For example, making healthy muffins with blueberries, wholemeal flour and half honey/half sugar to sweeten. Or slice potatoes really finely, dowse in healthy olive oil and a pinch of sea salt and bake in a hot oven until golden brown, for perfect homemade crisps.

If you're really at a loss and are not sure where to start, a good place to begin is by first establishing if your child prefers sweet taste or savoury taste. If children prefer sweet taste, try and encourage fruit eating, and for savoury eaters, try and encourage them to eat veggies sticks chopped matchstick thin and eaten with something tasty such as cheese.

They key is to take small steps and to not give up. You will get there, even if you are not sure how! One small step at a time.<bio>Rach Eden writes in association with Compare4kids, a website for comparing childrens bedroom furniture from the UK's top online retailers.</bio>

It is time you got rid of the notion that the excess weight you carry on your body is the result of overeating. Many of you would welcome such a revelation because who knows for how long you have suffered because of the pangs of hunger in your stomach being brutally suppressed for the sake of losing weight.

The term `diet' has become a dreadful word, associated with things like hunger pains and starvation. But that is a total misinterpretation of the term. A diet refers to eating healthy food, not starving. A good diet should supply bulk to fill the stomach and at the same time cut down on excessive calories.

A scientifically executed weight management program allows you to choose foods that have fewer calories by volume. This is referred to as `low-energy-density.' Brenda Watson, natural health advocate and author says in her book The Fiber35 Diet that fiber is the prime example of low-energy-density food. This includes whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables.

In contrast, the high-energy-density foods contain a lot of calories and are high on fat per bite. For instance, a bowl of fiber rich blueberries contains much less calories to a similar bowl full of chocolate candies. In fact, Ms. Watson's book says that it is safer to eat three and a half cups of blueberries instead of a classic candy bar containing almost 270 calories.

People are waking up to the fact that fiber can be used effectively as an aid to weight management. Fiber allows you to consume larger servings of fiber rich foods without the fear of increasing the intake of calories. In addition, fiber can also provide support to maintain a healthy blood sugar balance. It helps to slow down our body's conversion of carbohydrates to sugar. It also helps us keep our blood chemistry stable by providing a slow drip of energy into the blood stream so that we don't feel the need to munch sugary snacks between meals.

Fiber, like fats, also promotes the release of satiety hormones in the intestine. This means that fiber consumption encourages your body to produce a hormone that creates a feeling of fullness. This hormone is called cholecystokinin (CCK) and it conveys the messange to the body that it is full and cannot take more. Therefore, fiber can actually take care of your appetite, so you can eat less, and yet feel full for a long time.

According to the recent studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, healthy weight management is all about the caloric content of the food choices we make. So, we should try and find foods with lower caloric count but are filling. Fiber fits the picture ideally. Fiber rich diets are an easy solution to the common problems associated with weight management. Fiber shows you the light at the end of the tunnel so that you can eat more fiber, and forget about your growling stomach and feelings of deprivation. <bio>Brandon H.
So here I am writing to you about what I just ate for breakfast. It was extremely fast and easy. It was loaded with health benefits. Curious?

I grabbed a Dannon Light and Fit Yogurt out of my fridge and tossed in 6-7 whole blueberries and two spoons of whey protein powder. This particular yogurt has no High Fructose Corn Syrup while most brands are loaded with it. The blueberries are a super-food and are loaded with antioxidants.

The whey protein is what I really want to tell you about. I buy mine in bulk from a local vitamin store and it is very inexpensive considering all the health benefits of eating whey.

In 2003 a study appeared in the Journal of Natural BioChemistry examining the health benefits of whey protein. The results of that study are truly amazing.

Whey protein has long been used by body builders to increase muscle mass. It is considered to be the very, very best type of protein you can consume to pack on muscle mass. I bet most of these body builders didn't realize that whey also has a host of other benefits in the human body.

The first thing to know about whey is that its' amino acid content is nearly identical to that of skeletal muscle in the human body. Whey is the most rapidly absorbed type of protein and moves out of your stomach almost immediately. When this rush of amino acids hits the bloodstream, your body goes into a frenzy of muscle building activity. This process continues for about two hours. Therefore, according to the study a constant intake of whey protein all through out the day will cause your body to build muscle non-stop! Most people desire more muscle than fat=85this is one way to help that process.

The second thing to know about whey is that it is a natural by-product of making cheese. Thus, it is very high in calcium. Now, besides building and keeping healthy bones calcium has another major benefit. The study found that in diets lacking calcium, the body creates calcitrophic hormones which tell your body to increase fat storage. These hormones are making you fat!

By consuming a high calcium diet you can prevent your body from releasing these calcitrophic hormones and therefore greatly decrease the amount of fat that gets stored. Consuming increased amounts of whey protein will cause you to lose weight.

As if this weren't enough to convince you, whey protein also contains high concentrations of immunoglobulin (IgA) which is essential for your body to fight off infections. More research is being done currently but the strong indication is that increased IgA can help your body prevent infections. So far, whey protein has been shown to have strong anti-microbial effects in animal tissue cultures.

And finally, whey protein contains high concentrations of lactoferrin which is a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants protect body tissues from damage by free radicals and are the key component in anti-aging and disease prevention. Lactoferrin also does a very good job of preventing bacterial infections.

As you can plainly see, whey protein is a powerful supplement to enhance your overall health. More muscle, less fat, stronger immunity and a good dose of antioxidants are the health benefits you will experience with this supplement that can be mixed in with almost any type of food. <bio>There is so much more to learn about protecting your health and living to the fullest...Go to http://www.blog.longerlifebetterhealth.com to get the latest research and facts about your health. http://www.blog.longerlifebetterhealth.com </bio>

What would you say if I told you that your next diet program could let you eat larger servings, but still promote a healthy weight? That you won't have to go hungry to be successful? It would be exciting news, wouldn't it?

Typically we associate the term `diet' with things such as hunger pains and even starvation. But a diet doesn't have to leave you feeling empty. The goal should be to provide bulk to the diet so that our tummies are full, and yet we reach satiety without excessive calories being consumed.

Experts suggest that when considering what to eat as part of a weight management program, we should choose foods that have fewer calories by volume. This is referred to as `low-energy-density.' In her book, The Fiber35 Diet, natural health advocate and author Brenda Watson shares that a prime example of low-energy-density food is fiber. This includes whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables.

High-energy-density foods on the other hand, are typically high-fat, and contain a lot of calories per bite. Compare, for instance, a bowl of fiber rich blueberries to a similar bowl full of chocolate candies. The fruit tastes great, and yet calorie wise is significantly less than the higher fat content of the chocolates. In fact, according to Ms. Watson's book, you could eat three and a half cups of blueberries, and yet still have consumed fewer calories than in a classic candy bar. (Roughly 270)

As of late, fiber has gained increasing popularity as an aid to weight management. Not only can one consume larger servings of fiber rich foods without the associated fear of caloric overload, fiber can also provide support to maintain a healthy blood sugar balance. Fiber can slow down our body's conversion of carbohydrates to sugar. By providing a slow drip of energy into the blood stream, we keep our blood chemistry stable, and we are less likely to reach for sugary snacks between meals.

Fiber, similarly to fats, has also been shown to promote the release of satiety hormones in the intestine. What do we mean? Simply put, fiber consumption will encourage your body to product a hormone that creates a feeling of fullness. This hormone is called cholecystokinin (CCK) and it is the messenger which tells your body, "I'm full, so stop eating." Therefore, fiber can actually help address appetite, so you can eat less, and yet feel full longer.

Since recent studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition have shown that healthy weight management is all about the caloric content of the food choices we make, then our goal should be to find foods which are filling, but have a lower calorie count. To that end, we should consider fiber rich diets an easy solution to the common problems associated with weight management. Eat more fiber, and let your growling stomach and feelings of deprivation become things of the past. <bio>Cassandra Cox is a 10-year veteran of the natural products industry.
More people are looking for viable, healthy methods of lowering their cholesterol. The purpose of lowering cholesterol is to decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease and increase life expectancy. However, many of the cholesterol lowering drugs cause serious health problems, and can even be fatal.

The medical industry knows that removing animal fat from your diet, and increase plant fat, will lower cholesterol significantly. Some plant fats, like almonds, can protect against cholesterol and cancer.

It is easy to add plant fats to the average diet. One way is to add almond milk to the diet. You can guy it, or make it at home. Almond milk is not only better for you than cow's milk, it has anti-cancer properties, brain-boosting nutrients and cardiovascular protectors.

Blueberries contain cholesterol-lowering remedies. The blueberry plant synthesizes natural phytochemicals and stores them in the skin as the blue pigment that gives the berry its color. These fit into the medicinal chemicals called anthocyanins, which have carefully documented medicinal properties.

One pint of blueberries each day (fresh is best, but frozen or freeze-dried also works) lowers total cholesterol by at least 25 points in 30 days. Plus, you receive the antioxidant benefits, nervous system protection, skin protection from UV light, and other benefits. All this, at a fraction of the cost of cholesterol lowering drugs.

Garlic is a miracle cholesterol-balancing food that also contains anti-cancer medicine. It is one of the best-documented natural medicines in history.

You need to eat a lot of garlic before experiencing the cholesterol-lowering effect of garlic, Baked garlic is delicious, with a nutty flavor and no harsh odor.

However, most people in today's 'drug for symptoms' culture stop at taking something which is suppose to make cure them. This is only half the battle against cholesterol.

The most important thing is to stop poisoning your body. These include Hydrogenated oils / trans fatty acids, Fried foods, Homogenized dairy products.

Fried foods are extremely dangerous. This includes french fries, egg rolls, fried onions and foods cooked in oil at high temperatures.

The frying process creates acrylamides deadly, cancer-causing chemicals. Fast food restaurants that fry foods use the same oil over and over, concentrating the acrylamide content so that each successive batch are more toxic than the previous.

Eating fried foods is simply incompatible with being healthy and a long life.

You cannot eat your way to good health. The body is not meant to be static and stationary. The good news is that it isn't meant to be athletic and buff too.

A 30 minute walk, five days a week, with a 3-minute sprint in the middle of the walks, you can nearly double the cardiovascular benefit of your health program.

The best exercise combines low-impact cardiovascular repetition with a short burst of high-intensity exertion. Adding a low weight to the mix and the health benefits increase again.

Heart disease is one of the top killers in the world, but it is the most preventable. Everyone has the power and ability to lower their cholesterol and extend their lives. <bio>Ethan Miller advises on improving your heath and reducing pain from his web site at http://www.babyshowerstar.com He invites you to get his FREE health guide http://www.asthmaroom.com </bio>

Man will age with time--this is an inevitable part of life. Yet many still hope that using creams on their faces or ingesting the right kinds of food would turn back time (at least for a few years!). There are many foods which promote longevity and healthy aging. There is no magic involved and you would be surprised that most of these foods are readily available at the local supermarket.

Olive Oil

This oil has been around for centuries as the Greeks in Crete have consumed this particular oil for centuries. There have been hundreds of studies that would confirm that olive oil has many health benefits. People who use olive oil in cooking or making dishes have lower rates of heart disease as compared to people who consume a different kind of oil. Olive oil is specifically rich in mono-saturated fats and polyphenols. These protect the human body from heart illnesses and other heart-related problems.

Fish

If you are conscious about aging, then you have to make sure that fish is a part of your diet. Fish promotes a healthy heart because it has a high content of omega 3 fats. These fats prevent the build up of cholesterol as well as prevent the occurrence of an abnormal heart rhythm. Many people who are fond of eating fish are observed to be safe from numerous heart illnesses. In fact, native Inuits who are people from Alaska (whose regular diet is mostly fish), have managed to steer clear of heart diseases.

Blueberry

Another age healthy food is the blueberry. Blueberries are known to be good at maintaining healthy balance and concentration as people age. This berry is also capable of reducing inflammation and oxidation damage (this occurrence is associated with age-related memory deficits and also reduction of motor function).

This means that a person who eats a lot of blueberries would have an improved and healthy memory, has good coordination, and has many more characteristics that are often associated with the younger generations.

High Fibre Foods

Having a well-balanced nutrition is tantamount to having a healthy digestive system. Fibre does much in promoting a healthy digestive system and also a person's overall health.

There are many vegetables and fruits that are high in fibre. To name a few, these are: mangoes, avocadoes, carrots, beans, apples, citrus fruits, whole grain cereals, nuts, and many more. Before buying any food from the supermarket, make sure that you read the label and that the contents include at least one of the fibrous foods.

Food is a vital part of nutrition and that is why it is important to look for foods that are high in fibre since fibre takes care of sweeping your body's toxins out of your system.

Recommendation

Older people suffer from conditions such as constipation or incontinence, memory gap, and being less agile. Eating all the age-defying foods that were mentioned would not only make you younger, but they would make you feel younger also.

If you don't get enough fruits and vegetables, then it's time to make a change. People who suffer from many illnesses are those who do not have a healthy diet--this is common knowledge yet many still do not give heed.

If your time is what makes you grab instant food, then you can still load up on fibres and other nutrients by eating fruits and power bars instead. Grabbing an apple is much easier than heating up an instant meal in your microwave oven! Keep a chart of foods that are easy to buy and prepare. Ways of including whole grains in your diet include:

=95Trading sugary cereal and white bread for whole-grain cereals =95Brown rice instead of white rice =95Whole-wheat pasta

Read food labels to be sure whole grains are listed first in the ingredients (whole-wheat flour, not simply wheat flour). Fruits and vegetables provide you with Vitamin C and fiber as well as many other vitamins and minerals. Vitamin C also promotes healthy gums and other tissues for both you and your baby. Other important nutrients during pregnancy are Vitamin A, iron and folic acid.

You should choose three or more servings of fruit and four or more servings of vegetables per day.

Servings include:

=951 medium-sized piece of fruit =95=BD cup fresh, frozen or canned fruit =95=BC cup dried fruit =951 cup raw, leafy vegetables =95=BD cup cooked or other raw vegetables =95=BE cup fruit or vegetable juice =951 small baked potato

If you are tired of canned and fresh fruit, try dried fruits. There are several different fruits available such as apricots, cherries, strawberries, blueberries. Blueberries and strawberries are packed with antioxidants. I just love the dry pineapples! Protein is extra important for your baby's growth especially during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Choose at least three servings of protein-rich foods a day. These foods include choices in the meat, poultry, fish, eggs and beans category.

A serving includes:

=953 ounces of cooked lean meat, poultry or fish =95=BD cup cooked dried beans =951 egg =951/3 cup nuts =952 tablespoons peanut butter

And don't forget the dairy products that helps build your baby's bones and teeth as well as keeps your bones and teeth healthy. Calcium-fortified soy milk is a good choice during pregnancy. Choose three or more servings a day. Servings include:

=951 cup skim milk =951 cup yogurt =951 =BD ounces natural cheese (about the size of six dice) =952 ounces processed cheese =95Calcium-fortified orange juice =95Some bottled waters contain a little calcium per bottle

Indulge in fats, oils and sweets only once in a while during pregnancy. Keep an eye on portion size. Your doctor will probably also prescribe a daily vitamin. Even women who eat a healthy diet daily may miss out on some nutrients. A daily vitamin can help fill in the gaps. There are also special supplements your doctor may recommend if you have any kind of a chronic health problem.

Source: Mayo Clinic

Written by: Connie Limon. Different antioxidants combat different free radicals, so it's wise to know and use a wide range of antioxidant foods and vitamins that help preserve health and vitality.

Vitamin C is a well-known antioxidant vitamin. Foods that contain the antioxidant properties of Vitamin C include oranges, lemons, grapefruits, cantaloupe, many leafy greens, broccoli and peppers. Beta carotene, found in carrots, is another antioxidant nutrient.

Garlic is another food known for its antioxidant properties. Garlic actually has many healthy properties and can even be used as an antibacterial.

Berries of almost every type are excellent antioxidants. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries all have antioxidant properties.

Although cooking can dilute the nutrients in food, most foods have more than enough to last. The antioxidant properties of red grapes are even found in wine, so it's not necessary to eat raw foods in order to get antioxidant benefits.

And speaking of antioxidants that you can drink, don't forget about tea. All different kinds of tea have these good-for-you properties, not just green tea, as was originally thought.

While nutritional supplements are available to help us get the nutrients we aren't getting from food, the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables a day (especially if those vegetables are broccoli and spinach) should provide most of the antioxidants you need. Especially for children, it's wise not to get in the habit of relying on supplements when a naturally varied diet can provide for most nutritional needs. As we get older, however, it may become necessary to supplement certain vitamins and minerals; for example, some older people lose the ability to naturally synthesize enough Vitamin B12. Vitamin D is another vitamin that may need to be supplemented in older people. Your doctor can do blood tests to determine if you could benefit from vitamin supplementation. <bio>http://www.foodhighinantioxidant.com </bio>
