There are so many ways to attract wild birds to your yard. One of the best ways to bring all types of birds a little closer is by providing them water. There are many birds that do not "snack" on birdfeed, so adding a water source will attract many kinds of birds.

The easiest and most cost effective method to supply water for birds is to get a birdbath. Your local garden supply store should have a large variety of birdbaths available. If you are pinching pennies, you can also make one yourself out of a garbage can lid. It serves the same purpose and birds really don't discern between the attractive birdbath, from the trash can lid you have on the ground. However, there are many very elaborate baths you can purchase from ones that regulate the temperature of the water and some offer a regular flow of fresh water.

Keep in mind that birds like shallow water. If the water is to deep, they start to feel in danger. The ideal height of water is 2-3 inches. Remember to change it every few days as water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and they will lay eggs in your birdbath.

The bottom surface of your birdbath should be rough, not smooth. This gives the bird good traction. You might want to consider putting a few large rocks in there to allow smaller birds to perch.

Another method is to provide a farm pond. It is a small pond, which can be stocked with fish. A great advantage to this is that you will attract fish eating birds, like Herons. It is also easy to maintain. By planting bushes around the pond, you will attract even more birds as birds love to nest and hide in such brush.

Whatever method you choose, you will find more wild birds stopping in for a "drink" everyday. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the view! <bio>For more information about birds and their habitat, please visit the following URL: http://www.oldandsold.com/articles16/birds-1.shtml </bio>

Looking for ways to attract more of God's beautiful feathered creatures into your yard? Great! It's really not hard -- give the birds what they need, and they will come.

The first thing the birds need is food. A simple bird feeder with mixed seed can provide your birds with food, or you can go for something more complex, to attract more species of birds.

Thistle seed will attract many species of birds, such as some finches, that other wise would not come. Likewise, you may want to put out suet, or other "special" foods to attract more birds. Of course, during the summer, put out a hummingbird and/or an oriole feeder.

The second very important thing birds need is shelter. Birds have many predators out to catch them -- everything from hawks to cats. Some people will go so far as to build brush piles in their yards to shelter birds, but that is rather unsightly, to say the least. An easier solution is to plant a flower bed filled with some evergreen bushes, ground cover, etc. It will look great, and provide a haven for birds.

Another thing that you can offer birds is a bath. You can provide them with a typical water bird bath, or you can provide them with a dust bath. A dust bath can be as simple as a patch of sand underneath the bird feeder. Nothing fancy is required!

Last, but not least, you'll probably want to provide your birds with nesting houses -- a safe, dry place for the to raise their families! Of course, be sure that you choose appropriate houses for the species of birds that you have nesting in your yard. If you're fortunate, you might get to watch a pair of birds raise their young -- few things are more exciting to watch.

In summary, give birds what they need and want, and they will come to your yard -- and you can enjoy their colorful beauty. <bio>Be sure that you're outfitted with a pair of binoculars from Nikon or Olympus to watch your feathered friends with! Check out http://www.thompsonoutdoors.com/index.php?cPath=24_39 for great discounts on binoculars! </bio>

Birds have been one of the greatest subject for photographers for centuries now because they have an inspiring beauty and mystify us with their gift of flight and diversity. When it comes to photographing birds and their behavior, catching it on film will add a tremendous visual impact and feeling to any picture. There are different locations where birds gather, but really the best place you may what to start is your backyard. The thing about birds is that they are busy little bodies and a bird feeder in the backyard is a great place to get a picture when they are feeding or even the bird in the air getting ready to pounce one of the birds that is currently feeding.

When you venture out of your backyard to look for birds to photograph your vehicle may just become your newest piece of equipment. Birds see our cars less of a threat then a person carrying a long lens underneath their arm. A vehicle makes for a great blind and along with this patience is a virtue. When you find a location such as a prime feeding ground, park a bit of a ways from it and stop your engine to cut down on noise that may scare them.

Standard,wide-angle and short zoom lenses can be used for photographing birds, but for serious bird photography, a quality 500 mm or 600 mm telephoto lens is ideal.

Please keep in mind to avoid any situation that can put stress on the birds and their surroundings. If you notice a bird that is starting to show any kind of stress, this means that there is a nest or chicks near by. Any further picture taking should be disengaged and you should leave the immediate area. As a photographer of birds or any wildlife, it is a good thing to remember not to put ourselves or the birds around us in any kind of danger. <bio>Albreht Moy has fine art reproductions on his site: http://www.postersprintsphotos.com/buy-fine-art-reproductions.htm </bio>

All birds love to have a bath every now and again. Don't get me wrong, they do not like to be placed in water and washed all over. They prefer to give themselves a bath! Whilst our pets don't necessarily need one, wild birds absolutely love them, and you can buy one and place it in your garden without any hassle. In fact, some bird baths look really nice in a garden, and they can make really good outdoor ornaments.

Why Do Birds Like Bird Baths and Why Should You Buy One?

Birds love bird baths because they provide fresh, clean water which is really hard to come by sometimes, especially in summer. They love cleaning their wings and fluttering about in them and that can provide a lot of joy to families watching them.

If you love to watch birds then a bird bath is definitely a lot better at attracting them than bird feeders are. This is because bird feeders only attract birds which eat seeds. A bird bath attracts all different kinds of birds in the area and so you are likely to see a wider variety with a bird bath in your garden.

If you have children they will love to watch the different birds having a bath and it can even be educational. You could teach them about the various different birds and why they like having a bath. Children really do enjoy watching animals and so you will be doing them a big favor by adding one to your garden.

The Different Types of Bird Baths Available

There are a variety of different bird baths available to buy, or you could easily make one yourself.

One's which you can buy have all kinds of features including water accessories to attract more birds. Birds love the sound of moving water and many wild bird stores sell accessories which make the water move. They even sell drippers which provide a constant source of fresh clean water.

They come in all shapes and sizes and there is a design to suit each garden. Whether you want a wooden one or a fancy, elegant iron one, there is always something for you. Most people who make their own bird baths use wood as this is the simplest one to create.

Overall providing the birds with a bird bath in your garden is one of the nicest things you can do for them. They will reward you by coming and bathing in the water, and they will provide you and your family with plenty of joy. <bio>http://www.birdbathplanet.com is packed with information on copper bird baths and solar bird baths </bio>

Whenever you go outside what is the one type of wildlife you are most likely to see? Birds. No matter where you go in this world, apart from areas permanently covered in ice, you will see birds. Anytime of the day in any weather, in the city or in the countryside, there will be birds nearby, even if you can't see them, you'll probably hear them,.

In North America alone there are 835 species of birds that will spend at least part of the year there. Birding is reported to be one of the fastest-growing outdoor activities all around the world, and it is your choice to where you go and watch them. Right now more than 70 million Americans enjoy feeding and watching birds from there backyard.

The easiest way to get started in Bird Watching is to bring the birds to your back yard, this allows you to see them up close. Some ways you can attract birds into your garden include: Proper bird feeding all year round. Growing specialized plants in your backyard to attract them. Provide nesting sites or a birdhouses. Provide them with water either through a bird bath or providing water specially in extreme weathers.

Once you have attracted the birds you could get involved sketching them ot trying to catch that perfect picture, or you could just sit back and enjoy bird songs.

Some of the basic tips for bird watching are:

Try to observe the birds so they don't know you are there. Move slowly, make as little noise as possible, and keep your distance.

Going too close to a nest or repeatedly scaring a bird off its nest can cause the parents to abandon their nest leaving the eggs vulnerable to predators. On no account try to touch the eggs or the young birds as this can also cause the parents to abandon the eggs or chicks.

If you follow these simple tips birds will be attracted to your backyard and will keep coming back year after year. <bio>Gavin Dye is author and webmaster at http://www.birding-online.com where you can learn all about bird watching. </bio>

As many of us know birds are fascinating creatures. Their brightly colored feathers and they way that they act, sing and talk has fascinated man for a long time. For these various reasons there are people who have chosen to see about a bird adoption. The process for such a fact should be carefully.

As there are many different birds that can be considered as being suitable for living in our homes and environment you will need to see the type of bird that you want. You should also understand the various requirements for keeping your bird healthy and in excellent condition.

The best way that you can decide which bird adoption process to look into is to see the various birds that pet stores and exotic pet outlets have. One way to help you in this process is the internet. From the internet you can find the different birds that animal protection societies have declared as being dangerous to have as pets.

While these birds may look fabulous they are still wild in nature and you may end up being hurt. As a result of this the bird adoption laws will not allow you to adopt dangerous birds. Since these bird adoption laws are very stringent about the types of birds that you can keep you may adopt your bird from the various bird adoption and rescue centers in the country.

These adoption centers will have different adult birds that it is alright for you to adopt. These places will however make sure that you understand the full responsibility of adopting a bird whether the bird is a baby bird or a full sized bird. You will need to make sure that you understand the various needs of these birds.

Besides seeing which type of birds you want to have living with you there are other considerations that you will need to think about. These considerations will be the food that these birds eat. Some birds will need fresh meat and seeds.

Other birds will fruits, seeds and grains. This type of information will most likely be found in various animal care books and articles but for more specific information you should ask the bird adoption center for detailed dietary preferences of these birds.

As you see there are many factors that need to be taken into account when you are considering adopting a bird. The various bird adoption centers can help you with the process of selecting the proper type of bird but you should really remember that you are dealing with a wild animal.

Therefore the next time that you are thinking of having a pet you may want to consider having a pet dog or a kitten instead. By leaving these beautiful birds free you are ensuring that your children and other generations can see these graceful creatures flying or singing to their heart's content outside of a cage. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://www.easyhomeremedy.com/pet_care/natural_pet_care_index.html </bio>

Creating a habitat for birds can be a fun and rewarding hobby. To attract and keep birds coming to the new environment you've created, there are a few simple things you need to do.

Hang a variety of birdhouses for different types of birds. Many birds will come back year after year to roost in the same house. Do some research to find out what types of birds you want to attract, where and what kind of houses they like.

You will also want a variety of bird feeders and food. This is key...if you want to keep the birds around you must provide food and shelter for them year round. If you forget to feed for a while them or stop feeding them all winter, they will go elsewhere.

Birds also love a good bath and a drink. A birdbath is a great item to have in your yard for the birds. They can cool off in the summer heat, take a bath, etc. I find a shady place for a birdbath to be the best. In the summer it won't dry out as fast or grow algae. Make sure you put fresh water in regularly to keep away mosquitoes. They also need a water source in the winter. A Bird Bath Heater is a great way to provide a water source during the frigid winter months.

Birds are super fun to watch. Each species of bird seems to have their own personality, song and dance routine. It is like a guessing game to find the bird and match it up to the song. Get a pair of binoculars and keep them handy. A close up view of the birds will give a whole new perspective of their beauty. A book about birds of your region will also help you identify new birds and learn about their habits and environmental needs.

I'm no expert on birds by any stretch of the imagination, however, I know I love to watch the pair of House Finches come back to the same bird house each season. This bird house has been hanging in the same spot on my front porch since the previous owners lived here. In the early spring they have to fight off other birds to keep their home. It is an amazing sight. My family all love to watch the birds come to the window feeder. They are so up close, it is the only time my 3 small children stay still and quiet.

Providing a good habitat for birds can also be just having good natural shelter. Trees and shrubs can provide natural shelter, shade and protection. Shrubs that have berries in the fall and winter, like Viburnum, Oregon Grape Holly, and Pyracantha provide food for the birds into the winter. Sunflowers are a great summer treat for the birds.

Be patient when creating a new habitat for the birds. It takes a little time for the birds to discover a new environment. Once they do, you will be surprised and pleased at the variety of beauty now in your yard.<bio>This article may be reproduced and/or distributed.
Very few people dislike birds and watching them, but most homeowners don't want their home to be bird-central. Unfortunately, this is precisely what happens when birds decide that hanging around your house is a good idea. While birds are visually appealing, they're also a major pain as they are quite noisy and can cause significant damage to your home with their droppings. It is for these reasons that many companies offer bird control that is both safe for your home and for the birds themselves. If you're thinking about why you should get bird control, you'll want to read on.

Three Reasons Why to Get Bird Control for Your Home

1. It's Humane. During the winter months, many birds choose to sit on chimneys or other things on the roof of a home that may warm them. Sometimes, if these things are uncovered, the birds fall through into your home. This can cause an injury--or even death--to the bird, not to mention, they'll probably get your home messy. Bird control is very humane for this reason alone: it will prevent the bird(s) from getting hurt due to warming itself.

2. The Prevention of Damage to Your Home Both Inside and Out. Birds are unfortunately very destructive, and can do a whole lot of damage to your home. For starters, their droppings are acidic, meaning they can eat through materials and completely mess up your roof or attic, if the bird manages to get into your home. Birds also have sharp beaks that can peck through screens and cost you a lot of money in window repair. Bird control will prevent the birds from even setting foot on your home.

3. No More Nests. Birds of all kinds can be noisy creatures, and once they've established a nest in or outside your house, it will be very difficult to remove. You can try knocking it down, but they'll just rebuild it and you'll continue to have the same problem. Fortunately, bird control, provided by a good company such as Northwest Windows, will take care of this issue once and for all. The nest will be permanently removed and the birds will not want to rebuild.

Three Methods of Bird Control

Now that you know why bird control is such an essential part of home maintenance, you may be a bit curious as to what the methods of bird control are. You can rest assured that all of them will not hurt the birds at all. Rather, they will simply give the birds reason to not visit your home.

The first method of bird control involves the use of spikes on the home. These spikes, contrary to what others may think, will not harm the birds. Instead, they will make it so that it is uncomfortable for the bird to sit on your roof. This will result in little to no further damage by the birds.

Another method of bird control makes use of an electronic track. Sort of like a bark collar on a dog, the electronic track sends a small electrical shock to the bird if it sets foot on your house. The shock does not harm the bird in anyway, and is a very effective method of bird control.

Finally, the last method of bird control is a non-toxic, transparent gel that is spread on your house (typically your roof). Like the other two methods, the gel keeps birds away but does not harm them.<bio>Discover one of the best gutter cleaning and window cleaning in Seattle companies at http://www.Northwest-Windows.com</bio>

The common types of food offered in bird feeding are seeds, nectar, suet and fruit.Early morning is the best time for bird watching since many birds are then searching most actively for food.

Once you start feeding birds, you'll probably want to identify who is coming to visit.Equipment used for birding includes binoculars,a blank notebook, and one or more good field guides.

Field guides are books with pictures and descriptions of the birds.A field guide shows birds of just one country, or one region of a country, or one habitat.

Binoculars are described by two numbers: 8x32 for example. The first number tells you the magnification power of the binoculars. The second tells you the size of the objective lens at the end of the binoculars in millimeters. Most bird watchers think that 7 or 8 power is about right for most birding.

The next step is to broaden your birding experience beyond your own backyard.Plan a trip to a bird sanctuary, national park and other locations where you can see birds in large numbers.Wherever you go,never harm the birds and always respect other birders.

And don't forget to join a local birding club.Clubs organize field trips, show films of good bird watching destinations and some of them are involved in local environmental projects. Also visit your local library and check out books on birds and ornithology.
Many of us love watching the birds that flock to our gardens. We transform our gardens from basic human-enjoying spaces to areas where we'll see lots of different birds. While we may enjoy just watching and listening to birds, to gain the most out of bird watching it's best to go where you'll find many types of birds.

One such place to find a wide diversity of bird species is to go to your local park, nature reserve or even a bird sanctuary. There are about 500 National Wildlife Sanctuaries to be found in America itself. To find one that's near you, the internet should be of help.

Another way to enjoy bird watching is to know what particular bird lives in the area that you'll be visiting. As there are more than 900 species of American birds to be found it pays to be able to say that you recognize the birds that come your way. The way to achieve this is do some research prior to going on your bird watching excursion. Keeping listed notes will let you keep track of the birds that you've seen.

Binoculars are an essential piece of bird watching equipment. While you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on an expensive model it does pay to have a pair of binoculars that can stand up to the terrain that you'll be going through, and the weather that you'll have to endure. Your binoculars must be able to keep the images stabilized as this is necessary for long distance bird watching. Also your binoculars must be able to work in dim lighting and not fog up. As birds are not stationary creatures you should be able to focus on them very quickly.

To be able to track birds in flight with ease demands skill in bringing your binoculars or camera up and panning along with their motion quickly and accurately. The only way to get this technique is to practice raising your arm quickly and following a fast moving object like a plane or your dog. Once you're proficient at this, you'll be able to focus on anything that moves out in the field.

Taking someone who shares your interest in bird watching will make your trip an exciting one. Not only will they be able to discuss all that they know about bird watching with you, they can help to spot any birds that are hidden from your sight. They may even know some tricks that'll let you see and photograph some posing birds.

The reasons for bird watching are numerous but the main reason is that you'll enjoy understanding more about these feathered creatures that inhabit the world alongside us. This will make your enjoyment of the birds in your garden and home even more intense. After all, as every bird watching fanatic knows there's nothing quite as pleasant as bird watching and nothing quite as relaxing. Add a good cup of steaming coffee into the mix and you're all set. <bio>Author's Sites: http://dogi-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://cat-food-recipes.blogspot.com , http://myaroma.blogspot.com </bio>

Bird watching is an amateur sport of many. We trudge out in the snow to see the chickadees, call the neighbours when there's a bluebird in the yard and sprinkle seed out for the magpies even though they're loud and scare our pets. At some point in everyone's life it's very likely that one or two bird feeders will be purchased so that we can pursue our odd obsession. But it's tough to know just which bird feeders to buy. Hanging, tree-attached, free-standing? There is a lot of choice out there.

It's a good idea to decide which sort of birds you want to attract to your yard, and think about which ones are already habitual visitors. All birds have different tastes and styles, and will respond to bird feeders and seeds in different ways. While your chickadees might enjoy smaller seeds and a bird feeder surrounded by bushes, cardinals will be happier with safflower and aren't picky about tree cover. They're just as picky as us, so it's best to know a little about the birds you want to meet before choosing seed and bird feeders!

The best way to discover about the birds in your garden is not to surf the net, but get down to your local library or bookshop and buy a book. Get one with color photographs if you can. You'll also learn about their nesting and rearing habits, which can become a hobby in itself.

While most small birds are partial to sunflower seeds, you are likely to find that an abundance of them in your yard (scattered across the ground by messy birds) will attract other sorts of wildlife as well. Squirrels, raccoons and the odd rabbit might come ambling by to sample the free food, and you'll be well on your way to owning a full-fledged menagerie. But what's wrong with that? You always did like a little bird-watching, and now you've got the whole zoo to yourself. <bio>http://www.birdfeederbox.com is a website packed with information on wild bird feeders and humming bird feeders </bio>

One of the great things about having a backyard garden is all the birds that are attracted by the plants. If you don't have enough space to have a garden in your backyard, there are still ways to attract birds. Window bird feeders are a great way to do this, even if you don't have any yard space at all.

There are plenty of different sizes and styles of bird feeders, each designed for a different type of bird. You can also choose different types of food to attract different varieties of birds to your windowsill.

These feeders are usually made with a one-way mirror so you can see through it to watch the birds but they see a reflection so they're not scared by having you watching them.

These feeders can be refilled quite easily from the window, so you don't need to leave the comfort of your home to refill them. This is especially useful if you live in an apartment or townhouse and are on an upper floor.

There are various ways to mount these bird feeders. Some have suction cups and stick to your window, others clip into the window frame. The ones that clip into the window frames are generally a better choice because they are a little more secure, but the suction cups used on birdfeeders are better than most, and it's rare that they lose their grip.

These birdfeeders are made from a number of different materials as well, the most common being cedar and polycarbonate plastic. They are both resistant to the weather, however cedar is nice because it can be painted or decorated however you wish.

Some birds are attracted to certain colors so if you want to attract a specific species, being able to paint your feeder is helpful. <bio>Ronnie Booth offers tips for choosing the best window bird feeders on The Birding Guide website.
Bird watching is a popular hobby especially for families where every member of the family can take part regardless of your age or budget as it is a relative inexpensive outdoor activity. It is also not affected by your geographical location as bird watching can be done anywhere in the world in the great outdoors, therefore making bird watching an ideal family activity with minimal start up costs. For those who love birds and are eager to learn more about them, observing these birds in their natural habitat and discovering the different spectacular species is what bird watching is all about. What a sight it is when an eagle soars above the canyons or a hummingbird hovering close to some pretty summer flowers or a flock of playful gold and blue macaws fluttering their bright blue and yellow wings in the trees.

Unlike many outdoor activities such as fishing or mountaineering which require expensive specialist equipment, bird watching does not cost the earth. Additional gadgets may enhance the experience and help in gathering observational data for research purposes but they are not a necessity. Anyone can bird watch from a chair by the window of a flat, others who are more adventurous can hike to the far corners of the earth to catch a glimpse of some of the more exotic and rare species. It is usually done by using the naked eye and for enthusiasts who would like to get a better and closer view of the birds, they would use binoculars. With affordable digital cameras so readily available on the market these days with zooming ability, bird watchers are now able to take high quality photographs of these birds and share them with other fellow bird watchers by publishing them on the internet. Speciality books on birds rich with illustrations are easily available at bookstores and libraries, making bird watching a very accessible hobby for everyone.

Bird Watching Is Not Science

It is very common for bird watching enthusiasts to be very knowledgeable about the different species of birds in the world but this does not make them a scientist. They do not study the birds by scientific methods. They simply take great enjoyment in watching, observing and listening to the different birds. They engage in this activity purely as a favourite pastime. Some are quite happy to observe the birds that visit their backyards, others travel far and wide to observe as many birds as possible around the world. Many bird watchers will get up at the crack of dawn to see what type of birds might appear that day as birds like to look for food in the early morning. Some will log their observations by keeping a journal.

There are many national and international organizations devoted to this hobby. Members of these organizations exchange helpful tips and information to enhance the experience of other fellow bird watchers. Some local bird watching hobby groups are formed to observe and make records of the birds that are in their area. <bio>For more great articles on Bird Watching, please visit http://birds.articlebee.net </bio>

1. Birds need to eat a nutrionally sound diet in order to live a long life. Improper feeding can lead to malnutrition and disease resulting in a shorter lifespan. Start off by feeding your bird right from the beginning.

2. Parrots and birds of the parrot family can eat a variety of different kinds of foods. Seeds should not be a parrot's only food. This is a mistake many new bird owners make. Seeds contain mostly fat and not enough protein and very few vitamins.

3. Birds can eat most table foods but it is best to stick to healthy items including items containing whole grains, pretzels, and whole wheat pastas and bread. Foods high in fat should be avoided. Never feed them avocados as they are toxic to birds.

4. Good sources of nutrition for your bird include beans and legumes as well as various vegetables and fruits. Some birds resist new foods at first while others are open to trying many new things. Although it may take some time keep trying to introduce your bird to a variety of healthy foods.

5. Changes to a bird's diet should be done slowly and progressively over time. Provide fresh foods twice per day for approximately an hour each time. Be careful not to leave fresh food in the bird's cage too long as it will develop bacteria which can make your bird sick.

6. Your bird should be fed two times per day. This will result in your bird getting hungry which will make it more active. Also, a good appetite can make it more likely that your bird will try new foods. Feeding at set times twice per day will also allow you to be able to monitor how much your bird is eating. If your bird is not eating well this can tell you that it is not feeling well or has a health problem.

7. If your bird is a picky eater and you cannot get it to eat a varied diet you can try warming or cooking the vegetables. Take away seeds except at meal time until your bird starts eating healthy foods on a regular basis.

8. Just as water is necessary for people it is also necessary for healthy birds. Keep your bird's water dish filled with fresh, clean water at all times. Bird bowls can become very dirty and should therefore be cleaned each day with hot soapy water. Once every other week you should clean your bird's water dish with a solution containing bleach. Also make it a point to pick up some water soluble bird vitamins at the local pet store and add vitamins to your birds water daily.

Birds make wonderful pets for the whole family and they can live a long time if taken care of properly. Proper care of birds includes maintaining a healthy diet of seeds, vegetables and fruit. <bio>Robert Michael is a writer for Las Birds which is an excellent place to find birds links, resources and articles.
Birding enthusiasts find all kinds of ways to attract birds to their gardens and backyards. They often use bird feeders of various sizes and shapes, filled with a variety of food and other things to attract many different species of birds.

A bird bath is another common fixture, providing a place for passing birds to perch and drink in peace.

One of the best ways of attracting birds is to provide them with a place to nest - they will keep returning instead of just stopping on their way past. You can buy pre-made bird houses or kits that you assemble yourself. If you're handy you can even build your own from scratch.

If you're thinking of using a bird house kit the first thing to consider is how it will be used. Is it going to be a permanent fixture in your yard or do you want it to be more portable? And what types of birds are you hoping to attract with it?

Some kits are made for single birds, others for more than one. Some are hung while others can be mounted on a fence or a post of some sort. Taking the time to plan ahead will make your birding experience much more satisfying.

If you're buying a ready-to-assemble kit, the wood will all be pre-measured and cut and all the other hardware will also be included. The entrance holes will be pre-cut and the mounting holes will be prepared for you. These kits are generally made from cedar as it is a good weather-resistant wood.

You may find the surfaces are rough or possibly primed, ready for a finish coat of paint. Painting the bird house is often half the fun. You can go simple, with a color that attracts the type of birds you want or you can go with a fancier paint job, making it a nice addition to your garden. <bio>Ronnie Booth offers helpful advice about building bird house kits and other related topics for The Birding Guide website.
There are not many situations in life where two passions meet, and in some rare cases they even compliment each other in such a way that it almost seems natural that they are combined. The passion for pets and especially birds is very unique, although many people enjoy having pets, the bird owner can be a very different character than the average pet lover.

Birds are creatures of delicate beauty, they are also capable of the one thing humans wish for the most and can not have, flying. With incredible grace and power they can lift themselves to the sky and fly away to great distances, encompassing in their flight the pure meaning of freedom and independence. Many can think that holding a bird in a cage is simply cruel and is unnatural, in some cases, and in my opinion these people are right.

But on other situations the holding of a bird in a cage may serve for its own protection, some birds are also capable of living in a cage and flying away from time to time, always coming back to their cage, in these cases the cage has become a home. For those who admire and love birds and bird watching there is no greater joy than having your own bird and watching it take flight from time to time.

One other thing you can do with a bird cage is place it in your home, as a decorative item, enhancing the interior design with a beautiful bird. Anyone who has even visited a house of a bird lover who also has a passion for interior design will remember a room with a few bird cages, the unique sound and the almost outdoor feeling that the birds bring to the indoors is very inspiring.

When one thinks of combining these two, owning a bird and keeping an interior design that will embrace the birds presence, one must take into account the living conditions suitable for the birds he is holding, this will require a detailed talk with a professional, or a veterinarian. The other things to take into consideration is the effect that the regular every day life of the birds, a thing that will require maintenance and attention, since you will want to have the birds in a main room. Placing the bird cage in locations that will reward the birds with a nice view is also important, although in some cases there are birds that prefer not to have any view at all, if the bird does not want to be placed in such location it is almost always something that is very clearly displayed.

It is very surprising that the two, bird cages and bird ownership and the interior design of rooms that hold the animals go together, but after all it is a mater of simple common sense, if we were to design all rooms with a thought about the creatures that will live in that room except from us, we may find other surprising combinations. <bio>Daniel Roshard is an interior designer fascinated by outdoor architecture, currently studying public parks and outdoor design.
The pattern of working of the avian influenza is like that of touring of a cricket/hockey team...one country after another. Everywhere it meets with success in some degrees.

Avian influenza, popularly known as bird flu did not spare the vast continent of Australia either. Could it be the migratory birds that have done the trick? Migratory birds were held in awe and admiration by you, particularly by the bird-watchers all over the world. But, now you await them with suspicion.

Does avian influenza in birds cause the disease to spread in human beings also? Luckily, not to a great extent so far. The deaths reported since 2003, with the arrival of the flagship bird flu virus, H5N1, are just 120 all over the world. Why then researchers and scientists are so much worried about the outbreak of the bird flu? Why the concerned authorities are culling birds in millions?

The root cause of the worry is on account of the mutating capacity of the bird flu virus. It is likely to take the deadly shape anytime, if the past behavior of this type of virus is any indication. Whether the migratory birds will do it in Australia? Or the international travelers should be blamed, when the expected pandemic occurs in Australia? Why such strong fears among the medical fraternity of Australia? What is the basis for this latent fear?

The Australian health authorities are vigilant and confident. They can prove to you that H5N1 virus is not present in Australia. The job of spreading the virus is carried out by water fowls in Europe, Asia and Africa, but they do not migrate to Australia. But the species of birds that do migrate luckily are not the carriers of the bird flu virus. Australia has strict quarantine laws and the measures are correctly followed. So the disease can not arrive in Australia through imported birds or poultry products.

The standards of personal hygiene are excellent in Australia. So, the normal contacts of the people with the birds will do no harm. The Australian authorities and the people also know how to take care of caged birds, aviary and yard birds. The measures adopted are simple, just don't allow them to mix with the wild birds and give them good feed and clean water supply.

Australia knows it well- prevention is better than cure. A mock exercise conducted in November 2005, gave detailed instructions with practical demonstrations, how to meet the emergent situation, should there be an attack of bird flu.

The incidents of avian influenza reported in Australia so far are just five, but they are small incidents, very well controlled- and controlled in time. The last incident reported was in the year 1997. <bio>http://www.isitbirdflu.com/ and Bird Flu website provides detailed information on bird flu, bird flu prevention, bird flu symptoms and more. </bio>

Bird Watching Or Birding?

Bird watching is a hobby which involves watching and tracking birds for pleasure or fun. The official term for this hobby is ornithology, although it is more commonly known as bird watching, or birding, depending on your location. However, I am lead to believe that there is more to this distinction than just geography.

The use of the shortened term birding was most commonly used originally in America, whereas in the UK it was referred to as bird watching. But in the UK a third term is also widely recognised to distinguish someone as a person who watches birds and that is twitching. However, there are now three different definitions widely accepted for the three different terms, those being that birding refers to someone who watches wild birds for pleasure, bird watching is for those amateurs who study birds but who do so for their own purposes and who are not professionals in the field, and that twitching is undertaken to compile a long list of all the wild birds which have ever been seen in a particular geographic location. For those among you who participate in this hobby, you should now be able to work out which specific type of bird watcher you are!

Typically speaking, the hobby of bird watching has not had a very good press. Often seen to be the hobby of the geek, it is little known that there are actually some celebrity fans who don their binoculars to look at birds of the feathered variety. Former US president Jimmy Carter enjoyed relaxing with nature while bird watching, as did former UK Prime Minister Harold Wilson. It is also a little known fact that Ian Fleming's most famous creation, James Bond, was named after a famous ornithologist of the same name. Suddenly the hobby seems much cooler.....!

Amateur bird watchers have also been responsible for some impressive finds over the years. The spotting of a rare species has been known to cause many professionals to descend on an area and conservational work has been undertaken as a result of the discoveries.

Bird watching is incredibly popular and it is a great way for people to get out and explore nature first hand. The best time of day for bird watching is thought to be for the first few hours after the sun rises as it is when the birds are at their most hungry and so are more visible and slightly less wary. Bird watchers often situate themselves in a hide, which is usually an enclosed hut with small spaces to view outside, so they have a good view of the surrounding area but they are largely hidden from the birds, preventing them from scaring them off. <bio>The author is a regular contributor to http://www.thebirdingcenter.com where more birding tips and birding tours information can be found. </bio>

Home is where the heart is, isn't it? Ever thought about those who have no home and make us feel good daily as we enjoy their music and admire their beauty. Shouldn't they also have a beautiful place of their own? Yes, we are talking about the birds whose melodies we wake to every morning and who warm our hearts. These pretty creatures have their nests perched on trees and shrubs. However, when the humans have started keeping birds as pets, the pretty birds do not have the luxury of having their own nests. This is how the concept of birdcages came into being. Since birdcages are the only option that we humans have for them, why not make it beautiful?

Types of Birdcages

There are many kinds of birdcages available t day for the birds. Since birds can be classified into three sizes, small, medium and large, cages are also provided in the same way (i.e., small, medium, and large). It is true that no one else but you knows the best your bird requires, so you're always advised to get your birdcage designed as an acrylic bird cage which is ideal for any bird that you may own. The birdcages come in variety of designs and materials, including the manzanita, ribbon wood, grape wood and acrylic perches. Aside from that, you can buy bird toys for your bird/s to play with. You can also make sure they have a wide variety of food to eat.

Decorating Your Bird's Home

Select the birdcage that's easy to clean. For this you can place a tray into the cage, which you can remove easily when you need to wash it off. You can also make sure your birds get their well-deserved rest by purchasing a cover to place over their cage at night. You can buy lots of toys and hanging materials to enhance the looks and charm of their home. For example, you can give put a ladder in their cage that they can walk up and down on. This is just one of many ways to keep them from getting bored and enjoying their home. Your birds are special for you, so they deserve a special home. <bio>Barney Garcia writes about various pet bird and bird cage topics.
Everyone knows that bird cages are built for birds -- big or small, loud or quiet, with or without any vocabulary range, birds live in cages and call them home. That is purely what they are designed to do, right? Well, not exactly. Chances are that you've got someone in your family who decorates with them. Bird cages hanging from the ceiling, sitting on top of the TV and perched at the back of the toilet; they are well and truly a decorating scheme.

Certainly, most bird cages are indeed built to house an occupant. You will find these cages in pet stores everywhere, and they are generally built tough and made to withstand all sorts of ruckus from the little guy inside. There are big steel ones with fancy trim and little sliding doors for you to slip food and treats in and out. There are domed plastic ones for smaller birds, easy to move around and without the irritating clanging that comes with the metal cages. There are even enormous wrought-iron cages for those big, exotic birds who probably know how to say your name. There is no limit on size and range for this functional item.

There is also no limit to the little fake ones, woven together with willow branches or bamboo and never meant to hold a live occupant of any kind. These also come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, but are purely meant to pretty up a room. Don't put your bird in these!

The cage is probably too small anyway, but the tiny doors are usually stiff and difficult to manipulate. There is a drastic difference between cages of this sort and actual bird cages. The best advice you can get about the two types is don't mix them up! Your little chirpy friend won't be happy about it. Get him a nice strong big one, and use the pretty willow one for visitors to your bathroom. They'll enjoy it more. <bio>http://www.birdcagehut.com is full of information on parrot cages and wooden bird cages </bio>
