Celebrity Magazines such as Star Magazine and the National Enquirer make it their business to report on the love lives of celebrities. Up to the minute news and information on new relationships and couples who have called it quits. While celebrities are definitely different from us, it is definitely proven in the way they choose to end their relationships. Though sometime funny, celebrities can sometime choose the tackiest ways to end their relationships.

Breakups via television

Laura Dern and Billy Bob Thorton had dates for a few years and in fact were engaged. Unfortunately, for Dern, Thorton became smitten with Angelina Jolie on the set of their film Pushing Tin. The two married shortly thereafter but failed to inform Dern. She found out with the rest of the world as we watched in horror on one of our favorite celebrity gossip shows.

At the time, Laura Dern and Billy Bob were sharing a house. To make matters worse when Dern wanted to retrieve her things they were already boxed and put in storage, unceremoniously removed from the house the way Thorton removed her from his life.

Express Mail Break Ups

Sylvester Stallone dated model Jennifer Flavin but decided the relationship was not working for him. Unsure of how to break up with Jennifer, Sly decided to write a long heart felt letter to his girlfriend. Maybe because he was nervous about what her reaction would be Mr. Stallone decided it was best for him to be far away from Jennifer when she read the letter. The letter was delivered via express mail, and Jennifer found out the relationship was caput from the Federal Express Man.

Technology Driven Break Ups

We live in the information age, and it stands to reason that the demise of a relationship may take a futuristic turn. The world waited with baited breath for Britney Spears to end her marriage to Kevin Federline. Perhaps it is just a case of an individual getting their just desserts. The relationship between Britney Spears and Federline began when his girlfriend Shar Jackson was in her third trimester of pregnancy with his son. Perhaps Shar did not see it coming, but it is almost certain that Federline did not see it coming when Spears informed him that she wished to void their union via text message.

Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson were the darlings of MTV and famous for their television show Newlyweds. Unfortunately for Nick and Jessica their marriage could not withstand the strain or attention from the media. Rumors of a troubled relationship persisted for sometime before the couple called it quits Thanksgiving 2005. Rumor has it Jessica told Nick emailed the news to Nick.

Ending a relationship is usually never easy, whether you are famous or just a regular Joe. However, a break up should be done as painlessly as possible. Hopefully the next time Jess, Britney, or Billy Bob decide to break up with someone, the pages of Star Magazine or The National Enquirer will report that they at least did it in person. <bio>Lisa James is a writer for http://suscriba.com, seller of Star Magazine and other popular magazine subscriptions. </bio>

Billy loved everything about cars. This person loved the roar of the engine to the little parts that made the vehicle run. Since there were not were not any universities or colleges that specialized in automobiles, the only one that could offer this was the vocational school in Camden County where this individual resided in.

Camden County Vocational School has over a thousand students currently enrolled every year. Though majority of those studying are men, it offers courses for women who want to learn and get a better job.

Most vocational schools require the student to request for a brochure online. Billy filled up the application form, left the telephone number and address so that a representative from campus can call and a brochure can be sent.

A few days later, the brochure arrived. There were two programs being offered that could teach Billy to become a better mechanic. The first was automotive body repair while the second was automotive technician.

Billy believed a skilled mechanic should know everything inside and outside of the automobile. Given that this person wasn't doing anything, this person decided to enroll in both to be able to get certification.

Normally, vocational courses may take from one to two years. Billy was a smart guy and didn't have any problems with getting a full load. Because of this person's hard work and dedication, the two were finished in less than 18 months making the student graduate ahead of the rest in the class.

After graduation, this individual applied for work at the local body shop. Given that this individual did an internship while in school and had two degrees, Billy was able to ask for a salary higher than the minimum wage.

The money earned was then invested in buying parts for the roadster that was being assembled by hand in the garage.

Camden County Vocational School also has other courses for prospective students. It offers cosmetology, computer maintenance, carpentry, graphic designer, machine assistant and a lot more.

The courses offered by this school are accredited by an agency under the Department of Education. This means graduates can be sure the certificate earned can go a long way in moving up the corporate ladder.

It is never too late to learn something new. Those who want to go back to school and perhaps make more cash should ask for a brochure and obtain more information. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
Dancing with the Stars is a television program that is viewed by millions of viewers a season. There is much speculation as to why the show started off so popular and has not lost any of its following. There is no way to determine for certain why people like the show and continue to watch it season after season.

Dancing with the Stars is about to begin its 7th season in the fall of 2008. Since the very first season back in the summer of 2005, the world loved this show. For some reason people can not seem to get enough and anxiously wait for each new season to begin.

Each season starts with the introduction of the teams of professional dancer and their teammate celebrities. Then as the season progresses, the public gets to see a rare glimpse of their favorite stars or athlete's learning the complicated steps and moves required for the complicated dances they perform. Some say that Dancing with the Stars has such a large loyal following because people love to see famous people make mistakes and there has not been one season yet where the bloops and blunders of the workouts have not been shown.

There are also others that say they like to watch Dancing with the Stars for the simple fact that you can learn to dance yourself if you pay close attention. If you do not know how to dance and watch enough dancers performing the same dance week after week, it is natural that you will begin to pick up on the moves.

There are other fans of Dancing with the Stars that are indeed fans for the simple fact that the celebrities on the show (at least one per season) have been someone that they are a fan of. This became very evident in the fourth season of the show when Billy Ray Cyrus was teamed up with professional dancer Karina Smirnoff. Billy Ray Cyrus is a singer and actor with a wide following. He lacked skills in dancing to put it nicely. This did not prevent Billy Ray from making it to the final five contestants of the season. It was quite remarkable actually that he lasted all the way to be eliminated 7th.

I am a very large fan of both the show Dancing with the Stars and also of Billy Ray Cyrus and I even knew that he should have been eliminated before he was. The simple fact that the public gets to vote as well as the judges allowed Billy Ray and Karina to stay in the competition longer. If it were strictly up to the judges, they would have been eliminated long before they were.

One other reason for the wide acceptance of the show Dancing with the Stars could be the fact that this particular show is not age specific for its target audience. There really is not a target age. The show can be enjoyed by both children and adults as well as by females and males alike.

No matter why people like the show, it is true that people do seem to have fallen for Dancing with the Stars. Many people are anxiously awaiting the arrival of season seven to see who will compete this time and who will win.<bio>Kathy is a guest writer at Reality-TV-Online. Billy Joel has been filling venues and thrilling crowds with his unique style of classically-influenced music for more than 30 years, and he's back on the road once again to the delight of millions of fans.

Joel has lived a fascinating life, and a closer look at it may help explain how he ascended to the level of icon in the music world.

Early Life

William Martin "Billy" Joel was born on May 9, 1949, in the Bronx, New York, and he had a full-on New York City upbringing.

Joel's family history is one of trials and tribulations, as his father, Howard Joel, was a World War II holocaust survivor and his mother was from England. Ultimately, his parents divorced, and Joel's father moved back to Europe afterwards.

Joel became fascinated with music at an early age, and his genre of choice was European classical. Even though he loved music, he was not happy at all that his mother forced him to take piano lessons. Despite his resistance, however, the piano skills Joel acquired during this time would serve him well in his career.

Joel's interest in music also led to his being ostracized to an extent by his peers, as most of the children in his neighborhood were avid sports fans and participants. Joel's pursuit of music led to several instances of being picked on and bullied, and Joel ultimately grew tired of this treatment. He decided to do something about it by taking up boxing, and enjoyed a successful amateur stint on the Golden Gloves circuit before breaking his nose during a fight and deciding to dedicate himself to music.

Musical Beginnings

As Joel began high school, he also began to put his musical talents on display. He joined his first band, The Echoes, at the age of 14, and three years later he moved on to The Hassles, and this band released two albums before disbanding in 1969. Joel's next band was a duet with Hassles drummer Jon Small called Attila.

Attila released its debut album in 1970, but disbanded a few months later, and this created great distress for Joel. He fell into a deep depression, and even attempted suicide by ingesting furniture polish. He stayed in the hospital for months, and was ultimately released in 1971.

Upon his release, Joel decided to embark on a solo career. He signed his first recording contract later in 1971 and began to record and release albums. Although it took some time for his work to become a commercial success, his live act was already widely renowned, and Billy Joel tickets were a hot item immediately.

Period of Success

Joel released his first solo album, Cold Spring Harbor, in 1971, and it was a moderate success that gained air play on the radio. However, this only set the stage for his next release, which would instantly make him a legend. In 1973, Joel released Piano Man, and the album remains one of the most beloved and respected musical works in the world today. Since then, he has released more than two dozen additional works, and almost all of them sold over one million copies.

In all, he has sold over 100 million records, won six Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. He has also been married to super models like Christie Brinkley and continues to play his live acts as if he was in an intimate cocktail lounge.

All in all, Billy Joel tickets will expose you to an artist who knows all about struggle, failure and success, and every night with him is a night to remember. <bio>Written by Jay Nault, sponsored by http://www.stubhub.com/ .
One of the top-tier action series of the 1980s, Magnum, PI built a loyal cult following with its exotic setting and action-packed plotlines. Recipient of multiple Golden Globe and Emmy Awards, the series spent its long multi-season run as a regular in the Nielsen Top 20. Centered around a former Vietnam veteran and his close friends, the show broke new ground by being one of the first TV series to touch on the subject of traumatized Vietnam veterans and what they went through during the war. With clever writing, a stellar cast, and well-developed characters, Magnum PI is one of the more entertaining shows of its time...

The Magnum, PI (Season 2) DVD features a number of exciting episodes including the season premiere "Billy Joe Bob" in which Magnum is hired by the rambunctious Texan Billy Joe Bob Little to help uncover the whereabouts of his missing sister Carol Anne. Take for example "Billy Winks Money Box" a pixie figurine that is sleeping in his log home. Each pixie has a story that goes along with them. For example Billy's story is that he likes to steal little things from humans just to cause trouble, that by the way is what pixies like to do best. Unfortunately, Billy Winks is a lazy pixie and you can usually find him sleeping.

These figurines are perfect for adult or child alike. They can be placed in a child's room or through out the home. They even make a wonderful addition to any garden. Since the many of the pieces have aspects of nature in them, Anthony Fisher Pixies are a perfect match for the average gardener. These include a wine bottle holder, cooking utensil holder and bookends.
I was listening to one of the Parent Teacher Association meetings we have regularly at my son's school when our normal chit chat and conversations about the weather were ended abruptly by a question from Mrs. Stallworth.

"Is it right to discipline kids with spanking and other forms of corporal punishment?" asked the usually meek Mrs. Stallworth. The question caused immediate silence in the room as the normally loquacious parents and teachers seemed stunned by the frankness of the question. I'm sure no one wanted to imagine the thought of considering whether or not it is right to spank their kids. It was surprising, no doubt about that. But after we recovered from our initial shock, we realized that the question was relevant.

It seems that Mrs. Stallworth's son Billy was caught stealing some coins from his mother's purse. Mr. Stallworth, a man who exuded moral integrity and discipline, apparently had taken out his belt and hit Billy on the hand. Mrs. Stallworth stressed that it wasn't anything severely painful but it was nonetheless a jarring experience for Billy since it was the first time he had ever been spanked.

In an effort to make sense of it all, Mrs. Stallworth had done some research on the topic. Now, she wanted to share what she had learned with the rest of us and in exchange, she wanted us to tell her how we felt.

It turns out that there are many countries that legally ban and condemn the practice of corporal punishment for children such as Austria, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Cyprus, Denmark, Latvia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Germany, Israel, Iceland, Romania, Ukraine and Hungary.

The reverse is true in Asia where people not only tolerate the practice of corporal punishment but even endorse it. Many Asian countries carry the tradition and belief that a fair amount of punishment will make their children better people.

For instance, in places like China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea, it is legal to punish one's own child using physical means. However, China and Taiwan prohibit their schools from using corporal punishment against children. <bio>Kadence Buchanan writes articles for http://itsfamilytime.net/ - In addition, Kadence also writes articles for http://4kidsandteens.com/ and http://religioninformation.net/ </bio>

Have you ever watched the television program Dancing With The Stars? If not, that is surprising. Dancing With the Stars is a television show that is loved by many different people of all different ages. For example, I am a mother of 6 children. Dancing With the Stars is the only show that my children, all except the baby because he can not talk, and I love to watch. We try not to miss a single episode.

My oldest, an eleven year old girl and my 4th oldest, a four year old girl, sit week after week glued to the screen hoping to pick up some new moves to use in their drill squad performances. If we have to miss an episode, I hear it for days from them both.

Then there is the flipside, and by that I mean the portion of my family that are boys. I have two boys that watch it weekly as well and they are 7 and 8 years old. The older of the two watch it wondering if he will ever dance like that and the younger of the two watch it hoping to see someone mess up. Go figure, boys will be boys.

I personally like to watch it because it shows that celebrities do not automatically come by a wide array of talent they have to work to become good at some things. My personal favorite celebrity that has been on the show, probably showed that more than some. Billy Ray Cyrus is my favorite of the all the celebrities that have appeared on Dancing With the Stars. He struggled from day one. He was large and awkward to put it nicely.

Billy Ray never let his awkwardness hold him back though. He gave it his all every time he performed. An interesting point is that season, all of my children were also rooting Billy Ray on. Granted they were rooting for him because he is the father to their favorite actress but none the less, it again shows the wide range of ages that enjoy the show. After all, any show that can keep the interest of a woman in their mid to late 30s and also her six children must have something worthwhile in it.

Now let us take a minute to compare what the different age groups think of the judges. The three widely known judges are; Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonili. Every one has their own opinion of the judges. Some like one or two of them and there are also some that like all three or none of them. I like the fact that the judges usually will be right on the money. However, I have noticed that my children tend to get upset with the judges, even when their scores are warranted, if the judges give their favorite performer a bad score. They seem to be hardest on Carrie Ann, especially my boys.

No matter what age, sex, or geographic area you are from, chances are you have seen an episode or more of the ever popular show Dancing With the Stars. If you have children, try to sit down and watch an episode with them. It is a fun way to install quality family time in this hectic world we live in.<bio>Kathy is a guest writer at Reality-TV-Online.
These days when setting up your own website is remarkably easy, people who know the possibilities of the internet grab what's available and take their sites to the next level. How? By making money off their sites, of course.

It doesn't matter whether you're an online businessman promoting your own products, or a writer polishing a content-driven site. You can earn money by joining associate programs, one of the most popular internet options you'll have to monetize your site.

What are associate programs? Also known as affiliate programs, these are programs where an agreement is made between an online merchant's site and an affiliate website. The affiliate site will send traffic to the owner's site for a fee by posting links that lead to the merchant site. The payment for this arrangement will depend upon a particular agreement.

Let's say there's Billy the affiliate and http://Monypny.com the merchant site. Billy's job as an affiliate is to post ads and/or links on his website that lead to http://Monypny.com's site. Monypny then agrees to pay Billy a certain amount depending on their agreement.

Basically, Billy the associate's job is to ensure that traffic or money goes to Monypny's site by leading visitors to that site.

How did associate programs begin? We have Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of <a href="http://Amazon.com" >http://Amazon.com to thank for associate programs. He introduced this concept in 1996 as a strategy to promote his business and improve his sales. It became a huge success. These days, http://Amazon.com has more than half a million affiliate sites and other merchants have followed suit.

Why are associate programs used by merchant websites? An affiliate site is an excellent way of promoting the merchant website. It's also a great way to sell products and services online. It's a cheap marketing tool, it gives the merchant site online exposure and it's very effective.

Who are involved in an associate program? The major parties are the merchant, the affiliate and the customers or visitors.

Who can join associate programs? Basically, it's anyone with a website, although most associate programs do not allow sites with offensive language or content to join.

Do I have to be an internet business owner to be part of an associate program? Not really. All you have to do is increase your merchant site's traffic and you don't have to sell anything else. Associate programs are a great way to become part of e-commerce, even if you don't directly sell anything.

What are the types of associate programs? There are three types of associate programs: Pay-per-click or cost-per-click, pay-per-sale or cost-per-sale and pay-per-lead or cost per lead.

Pay-per-click -- in this type of associate program, http://Monypnny.com pays Billy the Affiliate based on the number of internet visitors who click on the link to Monypny's site. PPPs don't require Billy's referrals to do anything on Monypny's site, much less buy something. All they have to do is click on the link to help Billy earn.

Pay-per-sale -- in this type of arrangement, Monypny pays Billy the Affiliate for every visitor he sends to Monypny's site that actually buys something. It's either he gets a fixed amount or a percentage of the sale made.

Pay-per-lead -- Monypny pays Billy based on the number of visitors that he sends who sign up as leads. These visitors are those who agree to fill out some information found on Monypny's site. Monypny uses this information as sales lead, to sell products or services to at a later time, or keep this information and sell it to another company.

How do I join associate programs? You can join by becoming an affiliate or by recruiting them. Or you could do both. If you are maintaining a site as a hobby, why not earn money for its upkeep by becoming an affiliate? Apply with an affiliate site (these are free). You will need to fill out a form that requires some personal information like your name and address and other things like your web address and type of content.

If your application is approved, you can then pick the affiliate program that suits you. Once the online merchants handling these programs approve, you can then begin setting up links with the help of the affiliate network.

If you are an e-commerce entrepreneur, you can start your own associate program. Start by joining affiliate networks. This will require you to pay a fee, usually a one-time charge plus a deposit and some can be quite expensive, ranging from $1,000 to a high of $5,000. Your membership will also require you to pay the network with a percentage of what you pay your own affiliate.

If you don't like the idea of paying someone else to do your affiliate program for you, you can always use your own associate program. You'll need to set up your own tracking technology, recruit and screen your affiliates, set up a reliable and timely accounting system and a help line. You will also need to teach your affiliates the ins and outs of your program plus how to add links to your site. <bio>Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects.
In 2001, the vacuum cleaner celebrated its 100th birthday. It was in the year 1901 when British engineer H. Cecil Booth patented a cleaning machine that incorporated a vacuum to remove dirt. His machine was a huge one. Named andquot;Puffing Billyandquot;, this vacuum machine was horse-drawn and used a gasoline engine to provide the power needed generate suction. Booth's idea was great, but because of the sheer size and inconvenience his machine brings, he never gained a great amount of success with it.

But, since Booth's time, the face, shape, size, design and engineering of the vacuum cleaning machine have changed tremendously. The basic idea is still there but due to the changing fashions, the development of science and advances in technology, vacuum cleaners have evolved to be a revolutionary invention that altered forever the way people clean. Today andquot;Puffing Billyandquot; would be put to shame by vacuum cleaners that are ten times smaller yet many times more powerful. From houses to cars, vacuum cleaners have become very practical pieces of tools in the battle against dirt.

Just like your house, your car needs and deserves the same level of attention and care. Leaving your car dirty would totally ruin your vehicle. Dust and other particles can cause scratches on the paint and can damage your car's upholstery. Also, especially with newer car models, heavy dust can cause damage to the computer and electronic devices usually found behind the dashboard. Garbage also piles up fast. Before you even realize, your back seat's floor resembles a dumpster.

In cleaning your car, your first step would be to vacuum the interior. From the start you will need a strong, reliable vacuum cleaner to do the job right. andquot;Puffing Billyandquot; would hardly be adequate for even this type of job. You'll need the power of modern day vacuum cleaners.

Present day car vacuum cleaners are equipped with powerful machines that can easily remove dust from your car interior. With various attachments, you will also be able to reach those tight cracks and corners like the areas around the car seats, behind the dashboard, and near the sides of the trunk.

For cars, both the portable vacuum cleaners and the upright units are at your disposal. The portable ones can be very convenient. These are good for both dry and wet operations. The rechargeable battery is also a plus especially with some portable models that can be charged using the cigarette lighter of your car. Upright cleaners, on the other hand, have at their disposal hoses and on-board tools that will allow a thorough clean up in a matter of minutes. These add-ons would extend and flex into gaps that ordinary nozzles or tools can't go. <bio>Low Jeremy maintains http://Vacuum-Cleaners.ArticlesForReprint.com.
700 Sundays tickets offer something for everyone - comedy, top-notch theater, story-telling, memories, nostalgia and more.

Of course, all of this is brought to you by one of the living entertainment legends of our time - Billy Crystal, whose life story and perspective is on display during this eye-opening and gut-busting production. A look at Crystal and this story should help explain why this event is more than worth the effort to see live.

The Story

The story is all Crystal, as he performs as a one-man show. The setting is his childhood home in suburban New York, and the play even incorporates Crystal's family's home movies in order to add context to the overall presentation. Several of Crystal's family members "appear" in the play, either in the home movies or through Crystal's interpretation of them.

Although many people know the basics of Crystal's interests, the play goes a bit deeper into his love for things that include baseball, jazz, comedy and social acceptance. The seminal event upon which the plot is based is the sudden death of Crystal's father in 1963. That night was especially painful for Crystal, as he had just finished an argument with his father. After the argument, Jack Crystal goes bowling with his wife and dies of a heart attack. Billy Crystal never had a chance to apologize to his father for the argument, and that's a pain that stuck with him for the rest of his life and is emotionally portrayed on the stage.

The rest of the story takes a look at the figures in Crystal's life who made an impression on him either directly or indirectly, including his uncles Berns and Milt, his hero, Mickey Mantle, and any number of jazz musicians who helped Crystal through some difficult times both as an adolescent and an adult. This is why 700 Sundays tickets are so varied in their reach - they allow you to see several different views and norms of society through the eyes of one person.

Crystal's Life and Motivation for this Story

Crystal wound up being one of the most prominent comics of his time, and he appeared on Saturday Night Live, performed stand-up routines all over the world and appeared in several films. His career was a smashing success, and even before he put this story together, he had nothing to prove to the general public.

However, he never quite got over the pain of losing his father the way he did, and when his mother died in 2001, all the old pain came back to the forefront. At that point, Crystal hadn't performed in the stand-up world for more than 15 years, but losing his second parent motivated him to put this story together and to "get back into it" in a way that was both therapeutic for him and engaging for theater audiences everywhere.

If you enjoy the musings of one of the great comics of modern times, then 700 Sundays tickets are sure to provide you with a memorable night at the theater. <bio>Written by Jay Nault, sponsored by http://www.stubhub.com/ .
Nominated for 17 Emmys, Soap is a cult classic among the sitcom elite.
Vacuum cleaners have become staples inside the house. Not only does it make cleaning faster but it also ensures that the dust will stay inside the vacuum bag unlike with ordinary duster when the dust will just fly off some place else.

You use vacuum everyday but do you know how it was developed Read on and find out how this little piece of great invention came about.

The first cleaner that used the same system as that of the vacuum cleaner was created in 1865 in Chicago. Called the Whirlwind, it was hand-powered. But it was only in 1901 when the vacuum system was patented by British engineer H. Cecil Booth through a cleaner called Puffing Billy. He got the inspiration for the device from an almost similar cleaner that blew off dust from chairs. He thought that it would be even better if the device sucked it off instead.

Testing his idea, he laid a handkerchief on a chair and then sucked it off. Upon seeing the dust that adhered to the handkerchief, he realized that his idea had merit. Puffing Billy is a rather large device that needs to be transported. Suction is done by an internal combustion device that burns gasoline. Because of its size, his invention did not click.

In 1905, Walter Griffiths patented a similar device that is smaller in size. He called it the "Griffith's Improved Vacuum Apparatus for Removing Dust from Carpets." Manually operated, a person need to compress a bellows-like contraption in order to suck in the dust, which will pass through a flexible pipe. This is perhaps the closest thing at that time to the modern vacuum cleaner.

A year after, American janitor James Murray Spangler, created an electric version of the vacuum cleaner with the use of a fan, a bax and a pillow case. This seems simple enough but it really worked. When Spangler sold the idea to his cousin Hoover, the company Hoover Harness and Leather Goods Factory produced the device. Up to this date, Hoover remains to be one of the leading manufacturers of household goods in the country. The vacuum cleaner idea made him really wealthy. <bio>Low Jeremy maintains http://Vacuum-Cleaners.ArticlesForReprint.com.
In 1930 a talented musician aged 21 decided to form a dance band, and hey presto, the country's, if not the world's, longest serving entertainment unit was born and has been doing jus that non-stop ever since! The Joe Loss Orchestra now directed by Todd Miller is still appearing countrywide to this day.

I say "entertaining" because Joe always said, "although we are in the music business we are also entertainers." When Joe became ill in 1990 he asked Todd to take over the Orchestra and not one booking was cancelled. Todd himself joined the Orchestra in 1972 and is now regarded by many as one of the best front men in the business.

It was in 1969 that Joe decided, for financial reasons, that he would reduce the personnel to ten musicians and three vocalists. He felt that when the moment was right he would re-assemble the big band. Indeed to this day there are many musicians playing in present day big bands who appear in the Joe Loss Big Band whenever the band is booked.

On the subject of big bands and their leaders there is an amusing story relating to Joe and Billy Cotton. It appears that one morning just after the end of the war, Joe arrived home after a gig just before breakfast. Having had a quick cup of tea and still in pyjamas and dressing gown, who should be knocking at the front door other than Billy Cotton with a brand new motor car. He insisted on taking Joe for a spin and although the weather conditions were pretty grim, bitterly cold and with thick snow off they went into the surrounding countryside. Unfortunately, before too long the car ran out of petrol (it still being rationed that time didn't help) and Billy left Joe in the car whilst he set off in the quest for a garage. There sat Joe as cold as ice and with teeth chattering when along came the local bobby. Pushing his bicycle, he enquired as to why Joe was sitting in the car in freezing weather wearing his pyjamas and dressing gown. Joe informed the police constable that he was Joe Loss and that Billy Cotton had gone off to try and get some petrol. By the look in his eye the constable was finding it hard to believe such a story, until Billy re-appeared with a can of petrol and convinced the sceptic that the story was indeed true! The constable cycled away with a smile on his face with two prized autographs in his notebook!

But I digress. It was with an eight-piece band, playing in the style of Oscar Rabin's Romany Band at the Astoria Ballroom, that Joe took the first steps to becoming well-known. His growing popularity brought him a job at the Kit Kat Club where he made many of the BBC outside broadcasts. During his time there he raised the personnel to 11 plus a young lady vocalist -- a croonette as they were known. She made her first broadcast singing "Red Sails In The Sunset" the top hit of the day in 1935. She was only 18 and in years to come became the "Forces Favourite" none other than Vera Lynn.

After a long residency in London Joe began to tour the music halls, as did many bands of the day. During the war he took the band to entertain the troops around the UK and eventually to France and Holland. In 1946 Joe began a regular residency in the Isle of Man from May until the end of September, which lasted until 1959. With the coming together of the ITV companies Joe and the orchestra became the house band for ABC and opened up all of the television regions throughout the UK during the period from 1956 to 1960. They were to be seen regularly on television often up to four times a week. This was followed by a long residency at the Hammersmith Palais until August 1969 broken only by an 18-week season at the Empire Leicester Square and 12months at the Lyceum in 1967. They then moved on to the Empire until November 1970 at which point Joe decided to retire. He told Sam Watmough, the current manager of the band, who joined in 1956 that during the meeting he was to inform the band of his decision.

Joe opened his speech saying "Gentlemen, we shall be leaving the Empire and Mecca in 6 weeks time on November 30th." This brought Stan Pickstock, lead trumpet, to his feet, Stan had been with the band since 1961, who said, "bloody great, now we can get back on the road," at which point the band applauded.

Joe however was taken aback and said, "I didn't think you would want to go on the road again, but if you do that's fine." So the Joe Loss Orchestra was back on the road once again and had remained so ever since.

When Joe first became too ill to travel To0dd fronted the Orchestra until Joe eventually retired on January 31st 1990, two weeks before his 81st birthday. Joe passed away on 8th June, many thought that the Orchestra would not carry on without him, how wrong they were! They remain one of the most popular and busiest bands in the country. To quote Sam Watmough, who had been Joe's manager for 30 years, "I knew what Joe wanted and we are still proud to be known as Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra." As Todd himself says, "We must be doing something right!" <bio>THE JOE LOSS ORCHESTRA are regular entertainment at Potters leisure resort on the Norfolk coast and more information can be found at (http://www.pottersholidays.com) </bio>

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm thankful for grammar. You heard me right. I'm thankful for grammar. I guess maybe I should say that I'm thankful that I learned grammar. It's really true. As an author, I learned quickly to be grateful for those years of elementary school, junior high, and high school grammar class.

Do you remember sitting through those dreadful grammar classes? I sure do. I remember being asked to memorize the function of a noun, pronoun, verb, adverb and adjective. And I remember learning the difference between the subject of the sentence and the predicate of that same sentence. I have no real memory of how the concepts of grammar made it off the pages and from the teachers' mouths into my head, but they did. I never intentionally paid attention during grammar class because at that time I was years away from deciding to be a writer. I guess the grammar I needed to learn somehow came to be through osmosis.

Think about our what our society would be like without the existence of grammar.

Basically, grammar is the thing that allows us to communicate the same kind of English. Sure, you and I both know what a dog or a tomato are, but what if you thought that each sentence that ended with a period was really a question. Wouldn't that be confusing? Or what if I decided to write my next novel uses sentences like this: "Told Billy to Sarah loving a mother being a." Does that make sense to you? Of course not, because that sentence was not written with proper English grammar in mind. If we're lucky or just have a good imagination then we can determine that Sarah is telling Billy something about loving to be a mom. But without grammar, understanding even the most common English words just isn't easy.

Do you love to sit down and read a good book? Or perhaps relaxing in front of a movie is your cup of tea? Do you enjoy surfing the internet for the latest facts and news? If you enjoy any of these things, then you better appreciate grammar. It is proper grammar that allows you to read a book or to understand the script of a film or even to make sense of the internet.

If you still are not convinced about the importance of grammar to your life, trying having a conversation using mixed up sentences like the one I wrote for you earlier. It is pretty hard to make it through a day when no one understands each others thoughts or questions.

Fortunately, because we have grammar, we never have to worry about miscommunicating with people because of the way we arrange our words. So be thankful for grammar because I guarentee it has made your life a lot easier. <bio>Writer Denton Krypps frequently gets on his soapbox about the importance of grammar to any society.
One of the hardest things about fitness and exercise is establishing a routine and sticking to it. Part of the problem is because people simply don't like the exercise program they've selected. While exercising should present a challenge, it should also be fun.

Below, I list 5 exercises that can be fun and present a bit of a challenge.

Tennis or Paddleball. Tennis and paddleball can be played all year round, and you can find courts that are open to the public for free. Check out courts located at public schools: some of them are open round the clock, and you can get in evening time when it's cooler. When looking for a racket, make sure to find one that has the proper balance and weight that you like. You can get them at any Kmart or Wal-Mart for a reasonable price.

Proform Ab Coremaster. This thing is a lot of fun, I'm surprised to say. There are all kinds of fitness products out there today that are designed to work your abdominal area. They don't all work. The Coremaster exercises are challenging, but you don't get the strain on your neck and back than you would with getting on the floor and doing situps and crunches (which I hate!)

Bike Riding. As a kid, I lived on my bike, and rode it everywhere I was allowed. I still like to bike ride, although I don't get to do it as much as I used to, I do the stationary bike thing more. Bike riding will give you a good cardio workout, and depending on how rough the terrain in your area, will help shape your legs.

Tae Bo. Billy Blanks Tae Bo combines martial arts and boxing techniques in an intense fat burning workout. And I do mean intense. Billy Blanks developed this program to lose weight and build muscle. I suggest starting with the kid's workout, especially if you're not in shape. You'll stay motivated all through the videos, and you'll evolve as the routines become more innovative =96 you'll challenge your body and your mind. Great for women, men and even kids.

Dancing. Consider taking some dance lessons. It's never too late to start dancing, even if you were never a dancer as a young put. Dance classes can be fun, they can help you to lose weight and change your shape. Consider Latin dance lessons. Latin dancing is fast paced: you'll work up a sweat, increase your endorphins, which will create a feeling of euphoria. Try to convince a partner to go along with you =96 while you can take dancing lessons alone, it's more fun with someone else.

If you've never done any of the above exercises, you can be sure you'll be sore for a while until you get used to doing it on a regular basis. Consider trying them all to see what works for you. Once you've find an activity you love, you will find that it is easier to stick with it. <bio>Elizabeth Ramer has followed many weight loss diets since 2nd grade and is currently on the You on a Diet weight management program.
Nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and eventual winner of 3 Oscars, On Golden Pond is an unconventional Hollywood blockbuster. Based on the play of the same name by Ernest Thompson, the film offers a character driven storyline that explores numerous themes such as aging, abandonment, and family relationships of various types. Veteran film and TV director Mark Rydell packs the big screen with a star-studded cast for this 1981 release. Because of its well developed characters and realistic portrayal of human interactions, it's a film that's almost certain to make you laugh, cry, and/or smile. In fact, if you don't find Norman to be one of the most hilarious and eccentric characters ever created, then you must not be watching the same film.

On Golden Pond follows the lives of a retired New England couple on their annual summer vacation to Golden Pond. Norman Thayer (Henry Fonda) is an aging, long-retired college professor. Sarcastic and crotchety, he manages to distance himself from just about everyone but his wife Ethel (Katharine Hepburn). In fact, his biting demeanor nearly destroys he and his daughter's relationship, Chelsea (Jane Fonda). When Chelsea brings her new boyfriend Bill (Dabney Coleman) to visit, it isn't long before Norman stirs things up once again. But Norman and Ethel get an unexpected summer guest when Bill and Chelsea take a prolonged European vacation and leave Bill's 13-year-old son Billy in their care. It makes for an odd threesome, but as the three learn to live with each other's quirks, they also learn from each other. But the true test for the new family comes when Chelsea and Bill return from Europe. Can she learn to accept her father's vices? And can Norman finally be proud of his daughter for who she is?

Hollywood veterans Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda turn in two of the best performances of their respective careers. Fonda is absolutely brilliant as the doddering and cranky Norman. One can't help but laugh at his antics, although it helps that he has the best written lines in the entire movie. Dabney Coleman, although brief in his appearance, makes an immediate impression when he engages in a classic dialogue with Henry Fonda over the evening's sleeping arrangements. However, in the end, On Golden Pond works because of the chemistry between the three characters who encompass the majority of the story -- Ethel, Norman, and Billy. They bind together to create an epic drama rife with conflict, conquest, and chaos without all the usual Hollywood blood and gore. It's truly rare to have a film of this nature capture audiences without boring them, and On Golden Pond pulls it off.

Complimenting this strong cast and screenplay is a simple, yet memorable instrumental soundtrack composed by Dave Grusin, veteran TV and film composer known for such works as Tootsie (1982) and The Goonies (1985). Filmed on location on and around the Squam Lakes in New Hampshire, the beauty and majesty of this untainted landscape blends perfectly with its tailor-made soundtrack to create a theme of endless peace and tranquility. Overall, it makes for a rather enjoyable movie experience. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch On Golden Pond. Then, see if you can say "Ethel Thayer" really fast without a lisp! <bio>Britt Gillette is author of The DVD Report (http://thedvdreport.blogspot.com), a blog where you can find more reviews like this one. </bio>

How would you like to drop ten pounds?

Anyone can do it. You do need discipline and motivation to lose weight.

But losing weight fast?

How much time have you got?

1 month? 7 days?

Before I begin, I would like to warn you that if you lose weight fast, you are likely to regain back the weight you lost.

Do it wisely with a permanent change in your lifestyle to keep that weight off. Go for inch loss first by toning your body. Actual weight loss comes later. Muscle is heavier than fat but muscle burns far more calories. I'll elaborate on this later.

Back to the fast ways to lose weight

Here are the most popular options.

1. Crash diets

Crash dieting can let you shed those pounds, at the expense of your health. Once you eat normally, you will regain what you lost and more. When you fast, or when you go on a crash diet, you might lose weight rapidly at first, then your body adjusts, trying to conserve calories just to survive.

Imagine the days of the cavemen. Sometimes, the hunter is successful and returns with food for the familiy. Other times, he returns empty-handed. Our bodies are adaptable. That is how our ancestors survived. When food was plentiful, they ate to their fill. Their bodies stored the food in the form of fat. When food was scarce, they had little, at times nothing to eat, the body could depend on the stores of fat for the necessary energy for survival. Hence when food is available, the body stores what it can for the bad time.

Back to modern day. The first crash diet might seem wildly successful, with the pounds falling off rapidly. Then you reach your target weight and stop dieting. You bloat up and the weight piles on even more easily. Well, congratulations. You tricked your body into going into starvation mode, slowing down your metabolism. Now that you are finally, eating, your body is storing what it can in case of a famine.

Now you diet again. That drastic diet you tried doesn't seem effective. After cutting even more calories, you manage to shed the offending pounds. Satisfied, you take a break from the diet and all your hard work is wasted. The pounds return with a vengeance. Looks like your body is becoming very adept at holding on to the much needed energy stores in case of a famine.

You crash diet again. This time, your hair falls, the pounds seem even harder to lose. You are depriving your body of the nourishment it needs and that shows in your brittle hair, nails and dull skin.

Basically, although crash diets seem effective at first, they are a bad idea in the long run.

2. fasting to lose weight

People do fast for religious reasons. Muslims fast for an entire month in a year, eating lightly only before sunrise and after sunset. In between, for that fasting month, the devout muslims would train their discipline by not eating or drinking anything.

I've seen a Muslim friend slim down each year after that fasting month, wearing dresses that show off her slimmer figure after that. So how about fasting to lose weight?

Personally, I have not tried it. I have a problem with gastritis and for me, skipping a meal can lead to a gastric attack. Once you have gastric problems, they are pretty hard to get rid of, so if you do want to fast, check with a doctor first to see if you can do it safely in the first place.

My concern about fasting as a way to lose weight fast is the same as my concern for crash diets. Would you end up slowing your metabolic rate the way you might with on and off crash dieting?

3. Endurance sports

Did you notice how lean marathon runners are? How about those who engage in endurance sports.

I actually did go for a day trip cycling to a beach with a group of friends. 3 and a half hours cycling up and down hill with hardly any breaks to get there. The next day, another 3 and a half hours to get back. All of us lost some weight on that trip.

A friend of mine had a dynamite figure even though she had 3 kids. She was training for a marathon and it showed in her figure. Lean where it mattered. She showed off her figure in gorgeous dresses and looked better than most women ten years younger than she was.

I doubt if you can lose weight that fast, like in a week, by picking up an endurance sport but over the weeks, training for a marathon, or cycling as long as you can to explore your surroundings, or for day trips would go a long way in losing weight.

You would need to pick up speed first. Training for half an hour a day, before you increase your time to an hour or longer if necessary.

4. Strength training

Muscle burns far more calories flab. Basically, if you work out and tone your body, you boost your metabolic rate. Yes, you burn calories when you workout, but even after the workout, your body would continue to burn more calories at rest than if you had been lazing around all the time.

Incorporating strength training might not bring down the numbers on the scale. Muscle weighs more than fat, so you might even end up heavier.

Instead, you would see inch loss, which translates to a slimmer figure. On a guy, bulking up is far more positive effect than just reducing the fat.

4. Diet and exercise plan

The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to incorporate both a healthy diet and a daily exercise plan you follow for the rest of your life.

You will have to fit the daily exercise into your lifestyle. Something that incorporates strength training to boost your metabolism and tone your body with aerobic exercise to burn calories all around. Maybe get a set of weights you can use for strength training at home and an aerobics video for the aerobics part of it. Or a pair of running shoes for a daily run. Then get a diary specially to write down what you eat and drink each day, totaling up your calorie count per day. Use that to monitor your diet. Substitute unhealthy foods with healthier substitutes. Grill food instead of frying it. Take fruits instead of sweets. Drink water instead of sodas. You know the drill.

If you want to lost weight quickly, or rather, reduce inches quickly, incorporate crunches and abdominal exercises before you go for a daily run. Do strength training exercises to boost your metabolic rate and aerobic exercises to burn calories more rapidly. Eat a healthy diet focusing on more fruit and veggies, less carbohydrates and enough protein to get you through the day. Cut down on junk food and watch your drinks. A glass of coke could contain 200 calories. Now how hard do you have to work out to burn those calories. It is easier to keep them off by not taking unnecessary calories than to burn them off.

Personally, I would vouch for Billy Blanks workouts for fast inch loss. If you really follow that plan, in one week, you can measure the difference in your waist with a tape measure. The workouts are demanding but effective. They also have a decent meal plan which if you follow strictly, can help you shed the inches quickly. There are many other weight loss plans in the market. The ones that focus both on exercise and a healthy meal plan are your best bet. <bio>More about Billy Blanks Elite http://www.home-weight-loss-programs.com/Billy-Blanks-Elite.htm The author wrote how to lose weight without dieting http://www.home-weight-loss-programs.com/How-To-Lose-Weight-Without-Dieting= ..htm for http://www.home-weight-loss-programs.com </bio>
