The behavior of children is a direct reflection of the expectations of adults in the world of today. The information confirms the premise that the behavior of children is reflective of the context in which they are raised. Actually much of the unpleasant behavior of children is quite normal. The fact that parental behavior influences the behavior of children is well known. Assessing the needs and behavior of children is then examined, including the referral process and common assessment tools. Some of the disobedient behavior of children is just for the precise purpose of testing the determination of those in charge. The most surprising discovery, because it was not expected, is that the moral behavior of children is specific to the situation. Children's behavior is unpredictable and, developmentally, children will not make safe decisions.

The practice of assessing and treating attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders in not as difficult as one may think. Does the child have problems sustaining attention in tasks or play activities? The child may resist attention or passively accept hugs and cuddling. Understand and help any child with attention deficit disorder. Diagnosing attention deficit disorder is purely subjective.

However, the parent is far more of an influence than is the sibling. How far can a parent go when correcting a child's behavior? The parent must examine his or her beliefs when it comes to discipline and it was up to the parent whether or not to medicate their child. These parent needs to sit down with their children and explain the need to behave and pay attention in everyday life. Being an effective parent takes consistency, love and patience.

Strategies to teach all children are practiced. As parents, we found several strategies helpful. Parenting strategies are general ways of understanding and observing family life and the behavior of children. When you reprimand children, exclusions, and detentions are recorded as strategies that are not affected when trying to improve the behavior of school children. Parenting strategies and behavior management strategies are also effective. The relationship between disciplinary strategies and aggression in preschoolers does not always work in the best interest of the child. Plan appropriate teaching strategies to promote children's growth and development. Most teachers who implemented strategies from the beginning and create good habits and support system change the behavior of children.

It is worth considering whether the approach into children's behavior is a practical approach. The attitudinal behavior of children is recognized as a key determinant of. research indicates that the behavior of children is influenced by the age of the people with whom they are interacting. The general policy for guiding the behavior of children is based on respect for the child as a person. Children's behavior is affected by so many different variables if they are sick, healthy and or stressed. <bio>Melissa Fishman is the owner of http://www.mailordermommy.com Mailordermommy sells party favors </bio>

Talking to people who work for you about their performance is one of the most difficult tasks in the workplace. But, there are three quick changes to the way they talk about other people's behavior/performance that will dramatically improve the odds of a successful outcome.

First, put the description of behavior you're talking about ahead of the reason why you're having the conversation. That keeps those emotional protective shields from going up and blocking real communication.

This is hard to do, because most of our parents, early bosses, and role models did it just the opposite way. That means that you will, almost naturally, do the less effective thing unless you make a conscious effort.

I suggest that you rehearse your opening. That will help you put the behavior ahead of the reason for chatting. You'll probably have to practice the change, too.

Describe behavior the Joe Friday way. Just the facts. Drain off the adjectives. Then follow the description of behavior with a brief description of why that behavior matters.

The behavior you describe must be something visible or audible. It must be something that could be witnessed and can be described.

Do not, ever, use the words andquot;attitudeandquot; or andquot;always.andquot; Limit your discussion to observable behavior. Be specific about what happened and when.

Finally, once you've had your say, shut up. Wait for your subordinate to talk.

There are a couple of things that can happen next. Your subordinate might agree that you've got things right. Your subordinate might dispute your description of what happened.

Either way, you can now come to agreement on behavior. Then you're on your way to a meaningful discussion of how behavior should be different in the future. And what the consequences are for good and bad behavior.

This is simple and gets great results. So why don't more of us do it more of the time?

The answer to that one is easy. Old habits are hard to break and just about everyone we emulate did it the other way. If you do the preparation and practice to get these three things right, your conversations with subordinates about behavior will be much more productive. <bio>Wally Bock is an author, speaker, consultant and coach who helps leaders improve the performance and morale of their teams.
Many sleep disorders can affect the partner of the person suffering from the disorder, but this is often not as pronounced as in the case of those suffering from REM Sleep Behavior Disorder. If you or someone you know has a tendency to kick in bed, they may be a sufferer of REM sleep behavior disorder. While in many cases, such as when you see a dog twitching its legs as it sleeps, or if you know someone that occasionally talks in their sleep, the effects of REM sleep behavior disorder are minor, but should the symptoms become more pronounced, then there is a problem.

The Cause

REM sleep behavior disorder is a case where the problem results from being able to move when the body shouldn't. During REM sleep, the body in general is supposed to go through a sort of paralysis that inhibits motions. This paralysis acts as a sort of defense from a person acting out his or her dreams and causing injury.

The problem when someone is suffering from REM sleep behavior disorder is that this paralysis doesn't occur, allowing for a range of movement that can be as simple as a little twitching to punching, kicking, even jumping out of bed. When these motions develop to the point that they're violent, this disorder becomes a true problem.

Recovering

Until you can receive treatment for REM sleep behavior disorder, you will need to take steps to ease the danger of your symptoms. Remove anything dangerous from the immediate area of your bed, including lamps, your nightstand, and anything that can potentially be hit while flailing around. By doing so, you will minimize the bruising and fractures that can occur in those suffering from REM sleep behavior disorder.

Make sure to clear the floor as well, in case you roll from the bed or fall down, and if you can, place some cushions on the floor. Unfortunately, until you receive treatment, it's best to ask your bedmate to sleep somewhere else, or for you to sleep elsewhere instead, so that injury to them is minimized.

The good news is that there is a drug that's been shown in studies to relieve the symptoms of REM sleep behavior disorder, called clonazepam, which seems to work by forcing the muscles to relax while asleep. Even with years of treatment, it seems that this drug remains effective, which only slight movements reemerging after a while. The bad news is that REM sleep behavior disorder can be a sign that you may be suffering from other afflictions, such as Parkinson's disease or dementia, so be sure to discuss options for testing for related disorder with your doctor. Remember, if you are suffering from any sleep related problems, be sure to contact your doctor as soon as possible, and do your best to keep good sleep health. <bio>Simon Peters is the owner of http://www.on-sleep-disorders.com, it is THE best source for advice on the subject of insomnia and sleep disorders . . . </bio>

If you're a manager then you've been told at least once that you have to andquot;motivate your people.andquot; But how do you do that? Here's what you can do to get the job done.

Change your mindset. Forget about andquot;motivatingandquot; people. You can't see motivation. Motivation is inside another person's head and heart. You can't touch it. You can't measure it. And, therefore you can't manage it.

Think about managing the things you can see and measure. Start concentrating on behavior and performance. The things people say and do are behavior. The results of their efforts are performance.

Use the things you say and do to influence the behavior and performance of the people who work for you. Talk your talk. Walk your walk. Your people will pay attention to what you say and do and try to do what you want them to do.

Set clear targets. If your people don't know what you want them to do, they'll guess. And you may not get the behavior or performance you want. Learn to give good directions. Constantly check for understanding.

Tell people how they're doing. Give frequent and usable feedback. If you're the boss, your job is to help your people succeed and take away any excuses for failing.

Make sure that behavior and performance have consequences. Consequences are the result of behavior and performance. If you touch a hot stove, the pain you feel is a consequence of your behavior. If you make a great sports play or cook a great meal, the joy you feel is a consequence of your performance.

Good things should happen when behavior and performance are good. We call those good things positive consequences.

Positive consequences include praise, a better assignment, time off and cash. Positive consequences are things people want. They get people to continue what they're doing or try something new. Reward good behavior and performance. Catch people doing things right.

Bad things should happen when behavior and performance are bad. We call those bad things negative consequences.

Negative consequences include discipline, more work, embarrassment, and penalties. They get people to stop what they're doing. Make bad behavior and performance something that has a consequence every time. And remember that lots of small corrections are better than fewer, bigger corrections.

Keep doing it. This is work that is never done and it's the core of your work as a boss. Great bosses do the things we're talking about over and over, every day.

This may be simple, but it's not easy. <bio>Wally Bock is an author, speaker and coach who helps leaders improve the performance and morale of their teams.
Clicker training is a reinforcement or reward for a cat when training them. Clickers are use most often for support when training a cat for a reward. Cats associate the clicker with a good behavior they will use for a long time. Clicker training is associated with classical condition (they associate the sound with food.) and operant conditioning (cat performs movement to receive food).

Why use a clicker and not tell a cat or make a sound to get your cat to do a trick? A clicker has a sound a cat can hear and associate good behavior. With words, our tones in our voice can change from time to time, which a cat can become confused with the training. With talking for the commands, a cat could mistake the commands. With using a clicker, it is more of a training tool to get the behavior started with the cat. Then you can put the clicker away for that behavior or trick once a cat has learned the behavior

When taking the cat out for a walk or on a trip, the clicker is a good item to carry along with you. Cats can get distracted with other people, or animals in the area. With using the clicker, it will reinforce the behavior that you have taught them. In addition, a clicker can help you with having your cat walk with you instead of wondering around.

With the clicker, a cat can be trained using three easy steps: Get a behavior, mark a behavior, and reinforce the behavior. Get a behavior is the first step. A good example would be for the cat to jump a hoop. The cat will have to know that when you click that they get a treat. Start with very small treats in your pocket. Clicks, Treat, Click Treat do this for a few times until you see the cat coming for the treat on the click. Next marking the behavior: You will have to show the cat the hoop. Once the cat touches the hoop, click, treat. Then show the cat to go though the hoop once it does click, treat. Continue to do this until the cat goes though the hoop on its own or your command. Reinforce the behavior Remember to have snacks handy so when you do see your cat go though the hoop a snack is available.

Training a cat with a clicker can be fun for both you and the cat. Taking steps in training will be rewarding to you and the cat. Try not to rush a cat in training, as they can become confused especially if they did not get the step before down. The training will take time and steps to achieve this behavior. Patience, love, and rewards will be the key factor in training your cat.

The clicker is a good exercises tool for a cat. 10 to 15 mins a day you should get your cat to exercises. For exercising, you can have the cat use a hoop, play with a toy, and climb on the scratching post or something that focus on the cat getting exercise. Exercises will help the cat to stay healthy and help to keep it out of mischief.

Clickers can come with books to help you train, treats, and a clicker. Clickers come in many different size shapes, and color. You will want to research the clickers out. Check out a pet store, Internet sites give lots of information on training and using a clicker. Check out companies that make the clicker by using Internet to see what kind they offer and any additional information that you might need to get the process of training done. Check out articles about the clicker. Talk to someone that has used one. Talk to your area veterinary about training with a Clicker

Once you have used a clicker, the cat will get good exercise and be a healthy cat. The cat will be happier and you will be happier with the new behaviors that you have taught your cat.

To sum up training your cat, important things to remember is have patience, love and the clicker. <bio>Burt Cotton http://www.catcarenews.org </bio>

The number are staggering. Each year thousands of dogs are simply abandoned because their owners easily gave up on them. The reason for this phenomenon is simple. Some pet owners simply can't teach or control their pets. They blame "bad pet behavior" as their reason for taking their pets to the pound or worse, just dropping them of on some strange street. Sadly, these dogs are often euthanized in the pound because of over population.

It seems miscommunication plays a vital role in the increasing number of deaths in dogs cause by behavioral problems. Since it is easier to teach a dog a wrong behavior, most dog owners tend to accomplish this feat. They usually impose punishment improperly and do not make an effort to correct the wrong behavior of their pets. Sadly, proper training and positive reinforcement can address this kind of problem.

The most effective way of teaching a dog proper behavior is knowing how to correct their wrong behavior. There are two ways to correct the wrong behavior of your dog, a positive way and a negative way. Spanking, kicking or yelling at your dog to correct his wrong behavior will most likely only lead to more negative behavior. Spanking a dog when he enters an area in which he is not allowed will relay a wrong message that you do not want him to go there if you are not watching. In addition, when you rub the dog's nose on its feces he will think that you want him to eat his own feces. This kind of behavior is called coprophagia.

In contrast, when you are able to correct the negative behavior of your dog, you may give him positive commands like sit, lie down or stay. If the dog ignores you, walk away from him for a minute or two then come back again. When he obeys, you give him positive reinforcement such as good rub or a treat. Positive reinforcement of good behavior works.

Exercise is a vital component of dog training. In fact, dogs that are not exercised regularly tend to find ways, usually destructive, to release their energy. The common reason for the lack of exercise is that most owners find it difficult to control their dogs during walks. The result is less frequent walks and more behavioral problems.

Teaching your dog the basic obedience training is not a difficult task; it merely requires patience and constant practice. However, the price of the hard work is long years of enjoyment. If you think you cannot teach your dog the basic obedience training, there are available training class programs for owners. After all, usually it's the owner, not the pet, which needs the training. <bio>http://www.discount-pet-mall.com </bio>

Violence is a trait of many NFL players. Let's face it, football is a violent sport and it encourages violent behavior. Unfortunately, what football does not do is teach players how to behave non-violently to problems off the field, particularly when it comes to relationship problems.

This violent behavior begins when boys start playing football as children. The boys are taught to behave tough and aggressive by their coaches, teammates, and even their parents. Boys are taught to use their body and strength to tackle competing players. Making a good "hit" is encouraged. This positively reinforces boys to behave aggressively. The boys are taught to be strong, to be unafraid, and to be a man. The name of the game is to be tough, dominant and show no weaknesses.

Unfortunately, the boys playing football are not taught that this behavior is acceptable only on the field. As boys who play football reach adolescence and adulthood, they have learned how to use aggressive and dominant behavior to win. It is this behavior that can lead to domestic violence against women.

Football never teaches players how to commutate with a woman. Is this the fault of football coaches or should parents take responsibility? The correct answer is that both should take responsibility. If you are going to reward a child for behaving violently while playing football, you must teach that child how to control their behavior when not playing football. I believe that from childhood all the way through the NFL, football players must be taught how to control aggressive and violent behavior. They need to be taught that violence off the field is unacceptable, especially towards women.

The divorce rate among NFL players is very high. Players bring the violence and aggressive energy they have on the field home. After practice or a game, a player's adrenaline is flowing and they may have a lot of extra energy. If the player was in a big game that his team lost, this can increase the likelihood of violence at home. When you take the environment of football where problems between players are sometimes solved in scuffles and pushing each other around, this behavior becomes second nature to players. In football, if somebody gets in your face, you push them away. However, there is a huge difference between pushing a strong 275 lb player out of your face and pushing a 130 lb woman out of your face. What seems like nothing between players can be deadly when used toward a woman, and much of the time, it is done as a reflex from years of being physical with other players. That is why it is so important that from childhood on, football players are taught how to control their behavior off the field.

The NFL does have programs to teach players how to behave off the field. The problem is that by the time a player reaches the NFL, it is almost too late to teach behavior control. By this time the player has spent more than have of his life being taught to be physical and aggressive. This behavior is now so deeply embedded in the player's mind that it is very difficult to change. That is why it is so important that football coaches and parents teach these young boys how to behave off the field and to be gentle with women.

If you are a parent reading this article, please talk to your son about violence and that violent behavior towards other people, especially women is wrong. Yes, physical and aggressive behavior is ok on the football field with other players, but that is the only place it is acceptable. Off the field, players must be taught to control their aggressive behavior and use their mind to solve problems, not their body. <bio>Martin Chase is a retired NFL player who now owns a popular NFL Merchandise website at http://www.mcsportsfan.com. </bio>

Cat training is not always easy, but it is possible. Though your cat may seem too independent and stubborn to change its behavior, you can get the job done if you make a commitment to the right strategies.

There are a few basic tents of successful training about whichever cat owner should be aware. Let us look at three of those cat training fundamentals:

The Need for Immediacy

Cats are incredibly smart animals, but they do not necessarily make the same kind of connections people do with respect to cause and effect. That is why it is essential to take action immediately when you observe inappropriate behavior. If your response is delayed by even a few seconds, it will lose a great deal of its effectiveness.

Never assume that your cat will remember what it did earlier in a day or that the cat will make any connection between your discipline and past behavior. Rarely, if ever, will that happen. If you correct your pet for something it did earlier, it will have no idea of why it is being corrected and may incorrectly link your actions to the behavior displayed immediately before you took action.

Encouraging Alternative Behaviors

One of the best ways to teach your cat not to engage in an undesirable behavior is to encourage the animal to do something else instead. This strategy works even better when the encouraged behavior is completely incompatible with the undesired action. This technique works because cats, like all animals, are more responsive to positive reinforcement.

You will have greater success encouraging and rewarding what you would like to see than you will by trying to stop what you do not. Instead of discouraging your cat from scratching a table leg, encourage your pet to exercise that instinct on its scratching post!

Avoiding Physical Discipline

Physical punishment will not contribute to successful cat training. Negative reinforcements do not work well for cats and hitting or otherwise physically reprimanding your pet will only make your relationship more difficult while inspiring unnecessary fear in the animal.

Cats are not always the easiest animals to train, but if one approaches the project with the right attitude and strategies, it is possible to direct a cat's behavior. The three elements of cat training we've discussed all share features common to all successful techniques--they are all based on the understanding that positive reinforcement offers the greatest chance of success and that cat owners should always use the least aggressive means of correcting behavior.

Those three rules of thumb are at the very core of smart cat training. <bio>This article was written by Liz Barton.
If you have ever tried to train a cat or any pet, you have probably realized that it isn't the simplest process. Training a cat is not the same thing as training a dog, as cats are not performance pets like dogs can be. There are three rules to follow when training a cat; reward, praise, and positive reinforcement. If you can learn how to use these rules and how to apply them to your cat's training, you will be able to teach your cat simple tricks - and perhaps even toilet train it!

Basic cat training tries to encourage good behavior and discourage bad behavior. Anything you want your cat to do should be rewarding, enjoyable, and pleasant. Likewise, those things you don't want your cat to do should be unpleasant, not enjoyable, and should never be rewarded. It is important to remember that reprimands don't work in cat training. Punishment will only cause the cat to mistrust you and to repeat the bad behavior, when you are not around. Sometimes cats won't align the crime with the punishment and act out with another bad behavior.

Training will require time and diligence. You should never stray from your routine. If a cat has a pleasant experience when he does something, and is rewarded with food or praise, you can bet he will repeat this behavior. So, help your feline friend achieve a desired behavior, such as litter box training, with this in mind. When litter box training, you can control what your cat takes in and determine where it comes out. A short time after eating, take your cat in an enclosed room with the litter box. Make him sit in the box. When he has used the litter box, provide plenty of oral praise and hugs, maybe even a little treat, and your little friend will get the point. Soon he won't need to be kept in the box to achieve the desired result.

No one wants their cats to use their new couch as a scratching post. Of course, initially, they really don't know any better, so make it an unpleasant experience. Cats don't like to get their claws caught up in anything, so cover the bottom of your sofa with netting. The cat will realize this is not any fun and retreat to his scratching post. Once again, positive reinforcement with the good behavior is key.

As important as it is to reward good behavior, it is also as important not to reward bad behavior. If your cat does something you don't like, don't give him a treat to divert him from the bad behavior. He will associate the improper behavior with rewards and continue to do it. Instead, ignore him or squirt him with water. He will get your point. Also, keep in mind that sometimes a cat will behave badly to get attention. So be sure to schedule regular playtime with your feline and provide them with plenty of toys.

Once you've accomplished the basics in training, you can teach your cat to do many things. They have been taught to sit, lay, walk on a leash and, as mentioned before, even potty trained. Your well-behaved cat will be the envy of all. <bio>Cats andamp; Kitten Articles at http://Cats-Today.com.
Cats look cute and adorable. That is until they start biting poor unsuspecting human beings. Cats need to be taught good behavior. A lot of biting that is done by cat is a result of uncorrected bad behavior. Keep in mind that cats came from the wild. Even though now cats have been domesticated and live in close contact with humans, their instincts remain the same. They are born hunters and are equipped with the natural tools designed to hunt a prey.

Cats have predatory instincts

Biting is a part of a cat's defense mechanism. They do this when they feel threatened. Since biting is a cat's way to protect themselves, humans have to be careful that their cats don't think they are threatening them in any way when they are playing with their cats.

Remember that cats are predatory by nature. They exhibit this trait by playfully pouncing and biting the hands and feet of their owners.

It's important for owners not to tolerate this behavior. Otherwise, their cats will think it is acceptable.

Cat owners should not encourage their cats to think that their hands and feet are play things. A lot of cat owners who tolerate this behavior have scars to prove this unfortunate mistake.

Look for the cause

Sometimes cats exhibit bad behavior such as scratching and biting when they are ill or have an injury. They also do this when they feel anxiety or fear.

Cat owners need to pay close attention to the health of their cats. They also need to examine their cat's environment to assess if there's something about their surroundings that is causing their cat's bad behavior.

Train your cat

When training a cat, owners should reward their pets for their good behavior and obedience! This encourages the cat to maintain a good attitude. You can do this by giving them treats, or showering them with affection.

Fun activities

Sometimes cats bite when they get listless. When a cat starts to scratch and bite, owners can put a stop to this by distracting the cat with a fun activity. Give the cat a toy to play with. This will get the cat's attention, and keep the cat preoccupied.

Cats are wonderful pets to have. Not only are they clean creatures- they keep themselves clean by licking their fur. But they are also very useful. The Ancient Egyptians used to keep cats to catch rodents.

But first things first, cats need to be trained and taught the rules of the house. Luckily for cat owners, this means, no more biting! <bio>Cat Care Secrets is an excellent place to find cat links, articles and resource.
So what is the problem you are having with pooch? Is your dog not behaving like the angel you thought it would? There could be any number of reasons as to why the animal is not properly behaving, but one of the most important reasons is the reason of listening. Do you actually listen to what your dog is trying to tell you?

If your dog is not ready to do anything and is lazy, it is not going to obey your commands. It is just as simple as that. Now on the other hand, if you can get your dog excited to start listening, you will have one of the most obedient dogs on the planet. You must make the dog excited to want to learn and want to please you. Only then will you have the full attention of the animal.

So what is one to do? Well, without getting into too much detail, you just have to keep things simple and to the point. Animals do not have to learn by repetition, although I would strongly suggest you do this. How do you practice getting your dog motivated? Come up with a routine that you can do on a daily basis for about a week or so, that will not make your dog distracted.

For example, go to a quiet room and with a dog treat, begin your training. When you can get the dog to focus its attention on you and on the treat, you are winning the battle here. You must always make the dog want to please you and never forget to reward it for the awesome behavior it displays, the good behavior that is. Teaching your dog to sit and then giving it a treat, will let the dog know that you are happy with what it has just accomplished.

Taking these simple things into consideration, you will go a long way in helping your dog understand that when it comes time to pay attention, it better do so. Why would it want to disobey you anyways? It really wants that treat. So with treat, practice, and patience, you will see an amazing change in the way your dog behaves.

You have to keep in mind that a treat is a reward with your dog. Dogs love rewards just like we do. So be generous and be kind when handing out the reward for good behavior. Stay positive in your teaching and never be negative about it. Negativity will only hurt the process. Stay sharp and good luck. <bio>=A9 2006 -- Zane Madison -- Learn how to stop a dog from digging at this website. http://www.dogtrainingguide.org/dog/training/behavior/digging/stopdigging.h= tml </bio>

All children are blessings. The same is the case with those who bear a neurological disorder called autism. As such, just like any blessing, they too should be treasured and cared for. It is our responsibility to make them feel better by guiding them towards a normal and happy life.

As a neurological disorder, autism cannot be dealt with through psychiatric treatments, contrary to the former dominant beliefs of the early 20th century. However, there is still hope when it comes to modifying behavior through the provision of appropriate stimuli. This behavior modification process will take some tools such as autism toys and autism behavior checklists. Some autism behavior management treatments are also advised such as autism behavior cognitive therapy. When combined, these procedures and tools will surely result to an observable positive change in an autistic child's behavior and outlook in life.

Autism Behavior Checklist

The autism behavior checklist is the first stop to make. This will include certain aspects of behavior which need to be modified such as manners, attention span and a child's level of maturity. It is crucial to monitor the progress a child is making, or in some cases, failing to develop.

In order to make the checklist work, cognitive behavior therapy should be applied. This can happen with the help of special education centers which teach children with autism the right ways of life through thoroughly researched manners. Hand in hand with such professional help should be the parent's or guardian's devotion into reinforcing the lectures whenever the kid spends time with them.

Autism Toys

To reinforce the lessons and therapy, a child with autism should gain access to the best neurological toys. These are playthings which stimulate and enhance the brain's function, in order to make up for an autistic child's way of thinking. Mostly, these consist of easy to moderate puzzles and colored toys. The use of these toys will also train the children to lengthen their patience, a trait which most autistic kids lack.

There are also toys which produce sounds and visuals which easily catch a child's attention. The development of such toys is a clever move since children with autism often suffer from short attention span.

By utilizing all these tools, anyone will be able to treat a child with autism with utter warmth and care. As you can see, these methods are very easy and the tools aren't too expensive. As such, bringing light and joy to an autistic child's world is as easy as can be.

If you are experiencing troubles with your child regarding autism, just apply all that you have read in this article. Combine it with a lot of love and care and you'll see that bringing happiness to life's greatest blessings is as easy as one- two- three. <bio>http://www.howtoall.com/Healthfiles/howtocopewithachildwithautism14.htm http://www.howtoall.com/Healthfiles/howtodetectsignsofautisminachild13.htm http://www.howtoall.com/index.htm </bio>

What determines human behavior? There is not a Life Coach or for that matter a psychologist, psychiatrist or physician who can definitively answer this question yet this is the most fundamental question if you wish to initiate permanent behavior change. If you can not answer this question, how can you possibly expect to help someone make a change in their behavior let alone a permanent change? How can you move forward if you do not know what is moving you forward. Another question your need to ask yourself is "Can I fix anything if I do not know how it works?" Occasionally you can guess and by accident you can fix something but if you are guessing, especially in terms of human behavior it is unlikely you will ever be able to repeat the results. Burris MIND/FITNESS Life Coach Training and Life Coach Certification begin by answering the question..."What determines human behavior?" In the resolution of any problem it is always about the question. Never has this been more relevant. Imagine if for the last 60 years psychologists asked, "How can I fix it?" instead of "Why is it broken?!"

Example: If you get a flat tire on your car, do you want to walk back down the road to find out why you got the flat or do you want to know how to fix it so that you can keep moving forward? At some point it may be useful to know what caused the flat but the first objective and first question always needs to be...How can I fix it?

It is certainly not necessary to spend the last 40 years of your life analyzing the first 40 years of your life.

The new standard that Kelly Burris establishes for Life Coach Training and Life Coach Certification is a clinically proven process for behavior change. Back in the late 1980's when I completed the first version of this program process I presented it to my partner who was an MD PhD and a fanatical statistician. After explaining the process and how well it could work, his response was "Prove It!" After he said that I realized that no one in the business of behavior change could prove what they were selling and this is still true today. Your mind and in particular your subconscious mind controls everything in your life yet no one can tell you how it works, until now.

In 1990 I introduced what is now Burris MIND/FITNESS Life Coaching into psychiatric care with dramatic results. In 1992 I set up my first clinical studies and have maintained and refined the infrastructure for study of the program ever since. Even though the clinical studies specifically focused on Depression, Eating Disorders, Weight Loss, Motivation and Relationships the program has seen success in virtually every behavior. The reason for this is the program is designed to guide you through the process of how a behavior works. You then learn how to recognize, access and change any behavior that simply does not work. This makes the Certified Burris MIND/FITNESS Life Coach the very best because if they are asked to "Prove It" they have the training and infrastructure to do so.

Burris MIND/FITNESS Life Coaching is based on the reality that all behavior is emotionally driven or in other words your emotional state = your behavior. How you feel about things will always determine whether you move toward them or not. You will always move toward perceived pleasure and away from pain.
Behavior problems are at the top of the list of unhappy dog owners. Each year dogs are abandoned, put out of their adapted homes, or put to sleep because of bad behavior. Destructiveness, excessive vocalization, and house soiling are the most common signs of separation anxiety. These bad habits occur when the dog is separated from its owner.

Dogs are considered pack animals, so they prefer to be part of a group, and have a "pack leader" to follow and look up to. The dog's owner becomes the "pack leader" in the eyes of the dog, and when the leader isn't there to follow, the dog feels abandoned. This abandonment leads to anxiety and frustration which the dog has to deal with, the only way he knows how, what we call bad behavior.

Positive indications of separation anxiety are bad behavior primarily when your dog is left alone, he follows you everywhere you go, he becomes overexcited when you return home, he becomes excited or depressed when you prepare to leave home, or if he dislikes being alone out of doors.

Separation anxiety is not due to disobedience or lack of training. It is an instinctive behavior and should not be punished. The key to treating this problem is to gradually train or condition your dog to get used to your absence. When you leave home or return home make it a low key event.

Begin by leaving your dog alone at home for only a few minutes for the first few days or so. Then gradually lengthen your leaves in the weeks ahead. Also you should try to very your leaves at different times of the day so as not to create a pattern or habit. To yelp ease his anxiety, you can leave your dog an article of clothing that has your scent on it.

Remember, you are attempting to break your dog's old habit of dependency on you, so you must develop new habits and condition your dog to accept them. It takes time, patience, and love, but in the end it is well worth the effort. <bio>Randy Jones and his partner Brent Jones have been in the pet industry for a long time.
Cat behavior is often misunderstood because of our inability to read their body language correctly. Cats are just like humans, use body language to communicate and broadcast information about their feelings and moods, desires, likes and dislikes. Cat behavior is not an area where mere humans can exercise a great deal of control. Cat behavior is, I think, every bit as complicated as human behavior, with the drawback that cats don't express themselves verbally, so all we have to go on is body language. Ears that are beginning to press down means the cat is getting annoyed. If the ears are so flat against the head that you cannot see them, the cat is ready to attack. Early socialization, then, becomes very important in a kitten's development.

Humans have lived with cats for thousands of years, and there are now more cats kept in Western households than any other animal. Cherished as companions and valued as rodent catchers, their rather strange behavior has intrigued and amused us for generations. Humans have spent generations selecting just the right cats that aren't scared of humans and that we associate with pleasure and family.

With cat behavior, when a cat is purring that can be a sign of pleasure or pain; usually it is the former. Scientists have not yet been able to discover how purring works, but it is suspected that it is caused by minute vibrations in their voice box. Many people assume that a purring cat is content and happy which is what purring generally indicates. Hissing, spitting, and snarling are expressions of fear, anger, or dissatisfaction. Purring therefore can be a sign of pleasure or pain; usually it is pleasure.

Kittens purr to let their mother know they are nearby and everything is ok. In adult cat behavior, purring will let others know they are friendly and not a threat. Kittens, especially, needs other kittens for companionship. Like any young animal, they need stimulus, activity, play toys, and grooming. Kittens are born with closed eyes and folded down ears. It takes five to ten days before they first see the light of day. Kittens do seem to like to play in the litter pan. They usually grow out of it, but in the mean time, a higher sided litter pan is probably a good idea

Imagine your being a cat sitting home all day with the curtains closed with nothing to do and no one to play with. If you lived in the wild your natural cat behavior would lead you to watch birds and bugs, roam, chase, jump, hide, pounce and spend half a day happily looking for a mouse to eat. If you're relying on your visit to the vet to solve your problem, you can forget about it. Cat behavior is about the cat just being home with the curtains closed and nothing to do or with anyone to play or interact with, so it is necessary for them to have things to play with push around and pounce on and the like.

NOTE: This article is for information only. See your veterinarian for medical advice.<bio>We plan to post articles that are informative and helpful to other cat lovers.
Children who suffer from ADHD often experience difficulties at home or in school. What can be seen as unruly behavior in young children can become overwhelming in children as they reach their teens. They may perform badly in their academic work, become involved in fights or struggle to make friends. Some end up being moved from one school to another due to disruptive behavior. So it's important to try and find relief of ADHD while children are young.

Although studies have been conducted, there are is yet no defined cause of ADHD, although scientists are moving away from environmental factors and are concentrating on looking at biological causes. However, there are some environmental treatments that can provide real improvements in ADHD behavior.

Behavior Therapy The premise of Behavior therapy is that it is based on simple concepts about what leads people to behave in socially acceptable ways. This works for ADHD by looking at the relationship between parent and child. Most children want to please their parents and make them feel proud as it also boosts the child's feeling of self-worth. Also, most children have realized that if they behave in the correct or appropriate manner they can gain rewards for doing so. By contrast misbehavior generally brings with it negative consequences.

In order for your child to get the most out of behavior therapy they ideally need to be involved from the start. So sit down with them and go through what behaviors are expected from them in various situations. Be very clear in your descriptions so there is no ambiguity. Discuss all the possible outcomes and agree on the rewards and also the punishments. By doing this exercise your child will be clear on what you expect of them and also what they stand to gain or lose.

Some parents may wonder why they are providing rewards for behavior that should done anyway and fear that they are bribing their children. This isn't the case. You are providing your child the motivation they need in order to improve their behavior.

This approach will take time and perseverance on both the parents and child's behalf. However, stick with it and you should see some improvements.

If you would like to learn more about natural solutions to help ADHD, including why diet has such a big impact, sign up for the free newsletter below.

Using behavioral therapy in conjunction with a number of the other treatment options like medication, natural remedies, diet and neurofeedback can help provide relief of ADHD behaviors. However, before adopting any treatment program it is a good idea to chat your thoughts through with your child's doctor for their input. They may be able to offer referrals or other suggestions. <bio>Sign up for Sue Perkins' free ADHD newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about relief of ADHD at http://www.recognizingadhd.com?source=is </bio>

I really don't have a problem with the clicker, itself. It has it's place in more advanced training exercises and for tricks. But not for basic obedience and behavior modification that is the result of a fundamental lack of respect from the dog to the owner. And not for behaviors that can be fixed immediately with a firm, well timed correction.

I've never understood why someone would choose to take a whole week to fix a behavior that can instead be fixed in 10 minutes, if you use the right technique. It's not like the dog is any more or less happy, one way or the other.

(To learn more about how to get maximum results in minimal time with your dog, click here: http://www.dogproblems.com/secretsbook.htm)

The clicker can be used to more accurately mark subtle differences in behavior, as mentioned above, slight differences in positioning, for teaching the competitive heel.

Where I take exception is with the andquot;clicker training methodologyandquot; which uses pop psychology terms to try to explain away the necessity of correcting your dog for unwanted behavior.

For basic, companion dog obedience, it comes down to this: Why fix it, if it ain't broke? Especially if the andquot;fixandquot; takes longer and provides no greater benefit to the happiness and well being of the dog?

The other issue I have with the andquot;clicker training approachandquot; is that it fails to account for the fact that most owners are smart enough to realize that they can moderate the firmness of their correction, based on the dog's temperament and the motivation for bad behavior. The andquot;clicker training approachandquot; adopts the viewpoint that every correction is a level 10 correction, and that every dog owner cannot be trusted to not over-correct his dog.

And in my experience... even WITH the pinch collar... 98% of dog owners consistently UNDER-CORRECT the dog, initially.

That's all for now, folks!
As a non-medical treatment approach, behavior therapy ADHD treatment is a well-recognized therapy for children who have been diagnosed with ADHD. The process is also sometimes referred to as behavior management.

Although medications can manage the symptoms of ADHD, they may not be suitable for every child. For some children medication has little or no effect on behaviors, for others the side effects can be just as bad in different ways than the ADHD symptoms. Also for some children the medications may not address all the symptoms and others may just refuse to take it. This can sometimes happen in older children and teenagers.

Behavior therapy for ADHD aims to reduce ADHD behaviors by focusing on three main factors. Children, especially young children, generally want to please their parents and may change behaviors to gain parental approval. Behavior therapy can also work by using positive reward as a motivational tool and also by the avoidance of negative consequences (punishments).

So, the idea is to increase the emphasis on the child achieving parental approval with rewards for positive behavior and discouraging inappropriate behavior with consistent punishments.

Having a child with ADHD can be like living in a war zone with constant tension, arguments and fights due to the frustrations felt on all sides over ADHD behaviors. Parents are constantly having to nag, berate and cajole to get anything done and children get fed up always being in trouble and labeled as `bad' or naughty. The relationship can quickly break down.

So going back to behavioral therapy and focusing on aiming to increase the child's desire to please their parents there needs to be some time out from all this aggression where parent and child can enjoy an activity together. The best way to increase some goodwill between parent and child is for the child to choose an activity and then work with the parent to complete it. Parents need to ensure that they use motivational language and not try and take over or correct the child. This doesn't have to go on for hours, about 30 =96 40 minutes should to be enough.

By spending quality time together that's fun, your child will start to enjoy Mom or Dad's time and will hopefully become more willing to please.

The use of the positive reinforcement can be a powerful tool in behavior therapy. ADHD kids generally spend much of their time doing something they shouldn't and getting reprimanded for their actions. It's not very often that they get told they've done something right. It is generally much easier to criticize than to praise but if you make the effort to thank them or compliment on the behaviors you want to see more of the likelihood is that they'll be repeated.

As well as verbal rewards you can also use other rewards. For example: for every good behavior your child earns a point that they can then accumulate for either a toy or a special treat of some kind. Try to avoid food treats though as these can encourage bad eating habits.

Negative consequences work in a similar way. Once you have explained to your child what is expected in a certain situation and they have understood you can use predetermined punishments if their behavior is not acceptable.

By punishments I don't mean physically hitting your child, rather the removal of some privileges. In order for this approach to truly be effective you must be consistent or your child will soon realize that there is a difference between what you say and what you do.

For more natural treatments for ADHD sign up for the free newsletter below.

For behavior therapy treatments to work parents must be very clear about what their expectations are for their child's behavior. The children need to understand both the actions they are expected to do and also the consequences for not carrying out those actions. Parents must be consistent with both reward and punishments and take care not to over react to situations.

If you are interested in designing a behavior therapy ADHD plan for your child then speak to your doctor who should be able to give you a referral to a qualified professional. <bio>Sign up for Sue Perkins' free ADHD newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about behavior therapy adhd at http://www.recognizingadhd.com?source=is </bio>

ABA, or Applied Behavior Analysis, is one of the most universally popular treatments for children with autism. In fact, most experts agree that the Applied Behavior Analysis method is the most complete and powerful treatment available for children within the autism spectrum disorder. The following article will provide a brief overview of ABA autism treatment methods, as well as some resources that you can utilize.

Overview

Applied Behavior Analysis has been around for quite awhile. In fact, it was all the way back in the early 80's that ABA began to be widely considered as one of the best treatment methods available.

True to its comprehensive label, ABA provides training for a multitude of situations and scenarios.

Applied Behavior Analysis attempts to always use pro-active methods of teaching. Essentially, this means that ABA attempts to find a positive action to teach in a certain situation, instead of simply teaching a child what not to do. The program focuses on the appropriate behavior to display in a certain situation. This is one of the reasons why ABA is considered such a great teaching tool.

ABA also covers a wide range of ages. And while the early intervention portion of the program receives significant accolades due to the great amount of time researching and studying its effects, ABA provides ample material for autistic children of all ages, making it a tool that can be continuously used over a period of time.

Applied Behavior Analysis, like you may expect, is not a simple or easy process by any means. ABA takes work, and a little patience and dedication from those in the life of an autistic child. But, the effects of this hard work are visible and significant, making it well worth the effort.

Resources

There are a lot of really good resources available to you if you'd like to learn more about ABA. The most overarching and detailed resource is probably The Association for Behavior Analysis (http://abainternational.org), which has a wealth of information about ABA, it's methods, and studies of its effectiveness. http://Behavior.org, and http://shapingbehavior.com are also really good resources for finding out more information.

Also, doing a quick Internet search will also probably turn up a great deal of information on ABA. And if you're thinking about using the ABA method of treating autism, it is important to pick a behavior analyst that is a good match for your situation. Due to the complex nature of ABA training, it is not recommended that parents attempt to home school their children using the method, though they will obviously play a very important role in the development of their child regarding the ABA method. There is a registry of certified behavior analysts; so doing a quick search for approved experts in your area may be a good place to start.

Again, Applied Behavior Analysis is not easy. But effective results are very possible with a little time and patience. Look into the previously mentioned resources for more information on ABA autism treatment. <bio>By Rachel Evans. This section, Part 4, explores the fourth belief, "I can have control over how others feel about me and treat me."

If I had to choose one false belief that causes the most pain for most people, it would be the belief that we can control how important people in our lives feel, think and behave.

In my work with individuals and couples dealing with addictive behavior, I encounter this belief and the many ramifications of it over and over. It seems very difficult for most people to accept the truth about their lack of control over others. The pain, frustration, loneliness and aloneness that result from not accepting your lack of control may be the underlying cause of your addictions.

Take a moment right now to reflect about what you think and do that is a direct result of this belief.

• Do you judge/shame yourself to try to get yourself to act "right" so that others will like you? If you do, you are operating from the false belief that you can control how others feel about you by how you act. You are also operating from the false belief that self-judgment will work to control your own behavior. Judging and shaming yourself can lead to addictive behavior to avoid the resulting pain.

• Do you act "loving" to others with the hope that others will act loving to you? If you do, you are operating from the false belief that your behavior controls others' behavior. It is wonderful to be loving to others because you feel good when you are loving, but when you have an agenda attached of being loved back, then your "loving" is manipulative -- you are giving to get. The hurt you feel when others don't love you back can lead to addictive behavior.

• Do you get angry, judgmental and critical of others? If you do, then you are operating from the false belief that anger and judgment will have control over how others feel about you and treat you. You can certainly intimidate others into complying with your demands as long as they are willing to do so, but you cannot control how they feel about you. And they will comply only as long as they do. At some point they might leave, so ultimately you have no control over them. Your resulting stress may lead to addictive behavior.

• Do you give yourself up, going along with what another wants of you, such as making love when you don't want to, or spending time in ways that you don't want to? If you do, then you are operating from the false belief that giving yourself up will have control over how another feels about you and treats you. A loss of a sense of self can lead to addictive behavior.

• Do you withdraw from another or resist another's requests? If you do, you are operating from the false belief that you can change/control another's behavior toward you by punishing them through withholding love. The deadness of withdrawal can lead to addictive behavior.

In important relationships, most people do some or all of the above behaviors, resulting from the false belief that you can control how others feel, think and act.

If you really accepted the truth of your lack of control over others, what would you do differently? If you deeply, totally, completely accepted the truth of your lack of control over others feelings and behavior, you would be left with what you CAN control -- yourself.

I have seen over and over that people finally take loving care of themselves only when they fully accept the truth of their lack of control over others. It is truly amazing the rapid progress the people I work with make when they finally accept this truth.

Shifting out of this one false belief and into the truth will go a long way toward healing your addictions. <bio>Margaret Paul, Ph.D., best-selling author of eight books, including "Do I Have To Give Up Me To Be Loved By You" and co-creator of the powerful Inner Bonding healing process.
