Everyone loves basketball. How could you not, what with the fast pace, the team coordination, and of course, those slam dunks. NBA basketball is the only sport that has special contests that highlight individual players, instead of the organization as a whole. NBA players are encouraged to not only work as a team, but also express their individual style. Pretty cool no matter how you look at it.

While the dual nature of NBA basketball players is certainly something to be encouraged, it can be taken too far like in the Olympic game between the US team and the Greek team. Basketball is about fundamentals in passing, shooting and lay ups, and of course team coordination. The US team seemed to lose their focus on the team as a whole and really just focused on dunking. While that may be somewhat entertaining to watch, it was useless against Greece. The Greek team had a remarkable passing game, and just scored lay up and 3 point shot one after another, while showing the world their awesome grasp on the fundamentals of the game. We now know that the Greek Olympic basketball team knows the drills.

Basketball fans always love to support their favorite team and of course, their favorite players. That is why you constantly see fans wearing their favorite player's basketball jerseys. Fans don't just go for the jersey's though. They love finding basketball collectibles like these: http://www.sports-collectibles-store.com/NBA_Player_Snow_Globes-p-1-c-53.html of their favorite player.

Basketball is also one of the most popular andquot;pick-upandquot; games around. If you can find a court in a neighborhood, you are likely to see a game in progress. Players give each other great basketball tips and drills, so everyone involved learns and gets better and better. Such a sport of cooperation! <bio>Michael Granger is a basketball fanatic who just happens to enjoy writing.
The National Basketball Association relies on various people to recruit the players that are ultimately selected to play professional basketball. These professionals have degrees that cover many areas of the sport, and most have experience with the game of basketball on a personal level. Some of those professionals simply have an eye for spotting talent in the oddest places, but still feel confident in their abilities to recruit the best after only seeing them play basketball once or twice.

Some of these professionals used to spend many hours driving from one farm to another in search of players who showed professional talent that had yet to be developed to play the game on a professional level. The scouting positions that they held for so many years, required them to learn the lingo used in scouting long before text messaging lingo appeared.

These professionals of basketball were often able to discuss all of the possibilities of playing professional basketball directly with a person before the player knew enough about the game to negotiate contracts or discuss which team they wanted to play for. Finding fresh talent is an exciting thing and being the first one to discuss playing professional basketball with a new talent can also be a energizing experience. Finding talent for professional basketball requires people that have a true sense of what is required to play the game.

At times, it takes a professional basketball player to find talent that is best suited for the game. Basketball requires more than the ability to sink a basketball into a net from 20 feet away. It requires an individual that is willing to train hard and become a part of a team concept that might just take them to a championship playoff one day. Some of the professionals involved in basketball have been around the sport for the better part of their life managing a basketball team at the college level.

Some of the head coaches in professional basketball were once college basketball players and felt that they could make their mark in the sport by turning professional and working for the National Basketball Association in an advisory position. Some of these professionals are good with statistics and serve the Association by figuring out which unskilled players have the right combination of talents to make a successful career out of playing basketball for a living. They take that data on a particular player and make their recommendations to the owners of the team.

Some professional specialize in strategies and are able to work out which game plans work best for which teams. Some of these professionals in basketball have worked behind the scenes for many years for several NBA teams and know just how things are done and what things they became aware of that need to be changed. There are changes occurring all over the National Basketball Association and the NBA is relying on these professionals to guide the sport in the right direction. Recruiting professional basketball players requires team support from people that truly have the power to make changes happen. <bio>James Brown writes about http://www.nbagearshop.com </bio>

Soccer and Basketball are currently considered to be the two of the most popular sports among the world's population. Although Basketball was created in the United States, and Soccer in Europe, the two have become increasingly popular in both countries.

Both sports require the athletes to be in shape and fit, but endurance might be more important among soccer players, while exquisite skill is the more important factor in basketball. Many of the major differences between soccer and basketball are being subdued, due to the fact that basketball is becoming more and more popular in Europe, and soccer in the United States.

In the United States, most of the sports television broadcasts on network TV are of sports other than soccer. You generally need to have cable to catch a glimpse of a professional soccer game, and even then only a portion of the games are broadcast, compared to a majority of games of other sports. In Europe, soccer is a favorite pastime, and most of the games are broadcast over other sporting events such as basketball.

However, the United States is becoming more involved in the soccer world since they introduced the World Cup, and maybe the gap between football and futbol is finally diminishing. It is still more likely than not that more American's, if asked to name 10 professional basketball players, then 10 professional soccer players, would have a much easier time naming the basketball players.

The fact still remains that American's simply do not consider soccer to one of the traditional, all-American sports that it does football, basketball, and baseball. Regardless of the fact that soccer has been around and played for many, many years, much like the sports that are considered to be favorite pastimes in the United States, it just hasn't been played religiously in the United States for individuals to simply give up our sports that consist mainly of players throwing balls, to players kicking balls instead.

It's projected that within a few more years, the exposure of soccer in the United States, as well basketball in Europe and other countries, will begin to gain to popularity and respect as a sport well played by athletes who train just as hard as any other professional athlete. The media can help to play a huge role in broadening the horizons of soccer by simply making broadcasts of games more readily available and easier to access, as well as on other channels rather than only cable. <bio>Lanny Hintz writes about http://www.nbagearshop.com/,http://www.nbagearshop.com/Coupons/Footlocker.com.html and http://www.nbagearshop.com/Coupons/FansEdge.com.html </bio>

Those searching for the perfect sports collectible have a variety of different sports collectible options to choose from. Baseball, football, soccer and#8722;and#8722; all of those sports have a range of memorabilia that are sure to satisfy a devoted fan. However, basketball, with its famous players and amazing history, has the ultimate sports collectible to offer: basketball jerseys.

Why Basketball Jerseys are Such a Desirable Sports Collectible

The history of basketball is filled with talented players who stood out from the rest: Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Shaquille O'Neal, even Dennis Rodman. Each of these players brought either immense talent, or, in the case of Dennis Rodman, flashy personality to the game of basketball.

With such notoriety being generated by these basketball players, of course the sports industry had to manufacture copies of each player's basketball jersey in the hopes of it becoming valuable sports collectibles. The fans did not disappoint, and after every basketball game stadium vendors were met with long lines of fans wanting to get basketball jerseys as a sports collectible.

Of course, the basketball jerseys that a fan could get at a game or at a local sports shop were great ways to show their devotion to a particular player. However, for those sports memorabilia collectors, simply owning a copy of their favorite player's jersey was not enough.

Extremely devoted fans would wait outside locker rooms in the days when security was less strict, in the hops of getting their favorite player to sign a jersey. Many players obliged, thus increasing the value of the jersey by potentially hundreds of dollars.

Nowadays, outside of fan events, it has gotten considerably harder to obtain that much-wanted autographed basketball jersey. Thus, avid sports collectors are flocking to specialty shops and to online sites such as eBay, looking for the perfect basketball jersey as a sports collectible.

Of course, it would be ideal to have the actual basketball jersey of one's favorite player, but one truly needs thousands of dollars to fulfill such a wish, if such a wish is even obtainable. Prices of basketball jersey skyrocket when they were actually owned by the player, and even more so if the player's number was retired.

Basketball jerseys are the ultimate sports collectible because they are a way to pay homage to players of a truly exciting sport, a sport that has merged with the entertainment industry to be both a sport and a veritable who's who of both celebrity fans and players.

So, for those who want a true piece of fascinating sports history, buy a basketball jersey. Whether original and signed, or just bought at a game or sports shop, it is guaranteed to be the ultimate symbol of fan devotion to this great game. <bio>Ann Mariera writes articles about family life.
Practice, Practice, Practice! Yep, that's all you need to do. If you're trying to improve your game, you have to actually get out there and play. If you're new to the sport, you've got a lot to learn, it's true, but there's no other way. You can read all the books you can get your hands on, you can watch the stars on televised games or on DVDs, but you can never get better unless you get out there on the court or on your driveway and shoot some hoops!

Where to begin? First, you need the right equipment. Luckily, for basketball, not much more is needed besides a ball, a hoop, and some sneakers. Do some light stretches and then get started. Start out with some dribbling. If you're already good at this skill (you'd be surprised with how many folks have problems here!), incorporate it into moving around the court. Practice moving at different speeds and then work up to running with the ball and moving around obstacles (like other players). Take a shot and see how you do. Are you better and making the basket from one side or the other? From further away or up close? Now, while it feels good to always be successful from one spot, don't forget to move around and practice from other areas of the court. When you're playing a game (whether pick-up or in a league) you can't count on always being able to get your spot to shoot from! (In fact, once your opponents realize what your strong points are, they'll spend a lot of time and energy trying to keep you from using them!)

Get involved! You can do a lot of work on your game by yourself or with a friend or family member right in your own driveway or neighborhood park. But if you really want to improve, you've also got to play with others. Join a basketball league at your community center, local church or the YMCA. You'll get to work with a coach who (likely) has more experience than you do, and will be able to help you improve your skills. The other players on your team are an invaluable resource, as well. If you just can't seem to nail a three-point shot, someone else may be able to give you some tips based on how he or she improved on this skill themselves.

If joining a league is not for you due to time constraints, cash, etc=85 visit your neighborhood park. Chances are if there's a basketball court on site, there'll be people there, playing basketball! Ask to join in, and you'll get some practice you may not have thought you'd get. Plus, you'll be getting a great work-out and you'll probably learn something from the other folks on the court. You might even make a few new friends, you never know!

So, if you want to improve your basketball game, it's really very simple. Just get out there and play! <bio>basketball hoop Find the best basketball hoops on the web at this premiere online http://www.basketball-hoop-store.com basketball goal store.
There are coaches in each and every type of sport out there, and many of them are good at what they do. Many of these coaches have won a lot of games, and one of them is Dean Smith. He has coached for the North Carolina Tar heels for thirty-two years, and has won 869 games in his lustrous career. Dean Smith took his teams to NCAA playoffs for seventy-seven simultaneous years, and the final four as well. He also scored several sweet sixteen appearances.

Dean Smith has coached many college basketball players during his career: James Worthy, Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins, and the list goes on and on. Many people also say that Dean Smith is a very nice person, outside basketball.

Coach Smith had won more games than Adolph Ruff, another NCAA basketball coach. Ruff has won 866 games while he coached, and like it was stated earlier, Smith has won 869.There are no coaches that have won more games, although Bob Knight won 1869, the same amount as Dean Smith. Bob Knight will probably be the coach who wins the most games ever. Many people do not like Bob Knight, but he is a pretty good coach. He has never had any problems recruiting players, so in other words, he does things the right way. He also believes in discipline as well, which is why people keep sending their sons to the school where Bob Knight currently coaches. Bob Knight, Dean Smith, and Adolph Ruff are the best NCAA basketball coaches that there ever were.

Many people think that being a college basketball coach is easier than being a player, but that is not necessarily true. Coaches are under a great deal of pressure to recruit good players, train them well, as well as to win as many games as possible. If their team loses a game for some reason, it reflects, not only on the team, but on the coach as well. So as people can see, things aren't always peaches and cream for coaches. They must work just as hard, or even harder than the players do. They don't simply stand around and tell their players what to do--there is a lot that a coach is responsible for taking care of. <bio>Stacey Day writes about FansEdge Coupons, NFL Coupons code and http://www.ncaagearshop.com </bio>

Finding the appropriate basketball uniforms is one of the most essential things that you can make for your players.

In essence, it is the most important equipment every player should have because basketball uniforms visibly represent the school or the whole team. With the colors and logo embedded in every basketball uniform, a particular team can be clearly recognized among the players of different teams.

There is nothing more disgracing and shameful than to have basketball uniforms that unmatched colors or inappropriate designs. Basketball uniforms should be appropriate to the company or institution that the team represents. Colors and styles are vital in creating good basketball uniforms.

Of course, it does not necessarily mean that looking good should mean fancy decorations or stuffs that tend to draw too much attention. Simple designs will do such as companys logos or badges.

To know more about the proper way of choosing the best and the most appropriate basketball uniform, here are some reminders to guide you through.

1. Make it easily recognizable

It is imperative for every team to acquire basketball uniforms that bear designs that can be easily recognized. Getting some flashy designs and colors will only distract other teams. Similar styles will also create confusions among the players.

Hence, it is important to create basketball uniforms that include simple designs such as badges or logos alone. These things will easily denote a particular team.

Moreover, it is better to choose a design that cuts above the ordinary. It takes resourcefulness and creativity to create designs that will really set your team away from the other teams.

2. Make it uniform

Do you know why basketball uniforms are called uniforms? That is because each uniform, though worn by different person, should match what the other players in a team wears. No one should wear something unusually different from the other team players.

A basketball team needs to be recognized as a whole. Each player must be considered as just a part of the whole team. If the team players will not dress identical apparels, then, it should not be recognized as the teams uniforms.

Uni means united, as a one. Hence, it is important to choose basketball uniforms that have the same styles and designs. Wearing differently may lose the basketball uniforms standardized look and could damage the teams presence in general.

3. Beat the game!

Since basketball is one of the toughest and most strenuous games, it is best to choose uniforms that can endure the wear and tear of every game.

You can only be sure of that if you have chosen a good fabric for your teams basketball uniform. Good, quality fabrics can stand the beating and snatching of uniforms while on the game.

Moreover, since basketball uniforms are always soaked with perspiration, it is best to get fabrics that are cool to the skin.

4. Shop and compare

Before you decide on a particular fabric or style, it is best to shop around first and compare designs and prices. In this way, you get to choose the best basketball uniform in terms of quality and price.

Buying basketball uniforms need not be expensive just to say it is made from the highest quality. All it takes is a little investigation, shopping, and research on the different kinds of fabrics used in making basketball uniforms as well as the available prices for each set.

Once you know these things, it will be easier for you to identify the best kind of basketball uniform that will work for your team.

5. Consider the companys or the groups image

If your team will be playing for a particular company, choose a basketball uniform that will uphold the companys image. Never use a basketball uniform that will create a negative impression about the company.

Keep in mind that uniforms represent the company or the group as a whole, so it is best to make use of basketball uniforms that denote positive image about the group.

6. Choose those that are easy to wash

Due to the logos or badges used in making basketball uniforms, some designs, when washed tend to stick together thereby ruining the whole uniform.

Hence, it is best to choose basketball uniforms that are easy to wash. It is best if you will choose a fabric that does not require ironing. This will shorten the washing and ironing stress that you put on your basketball uniforms. These things can only expedite the basketball uniforms wear and tear.

All of these things should be well remembered in order to acquire the best basketball uniform in town. Keep in mind that basketball uniforms are the first things people look at when you are already in the court. Hence, it is important that you have to look your best through the kind of basketball uniforms that you and your team wear. <bio>For more great basketball uniform related articles and resources check out http://basketballuniformshq.info </bio>

There are many lessons what you can learn from playing a team sport like basketball that carry over into our "real" lives. Whether you are learning these yourself, or teaching them to children, the basketball classroom can be a lot more real than an academic one. Check these out and see if you would agree:

1. You Can't Do It All By Yourself

If you want the ventures you (or your kids) are involved in to succeed, you need to rely on other people to help you. Have you ever heard the expression, "No man is an island"? We aren't meant to do everything on our own. It may be hard to learn how to trust that your teammates will be there to help and support you on the basketball court just as it can be difficult to trust people off the court, but the fact is that there are people around you that you can count on. You just have to learn how to let go of your fear of getting hurt and let them in.

2. There Will be Obstacles in Your Way

If you are the only person on the basketball court, then getting the ball from one end to another and putting in the basket is no big deal. During a game, though, it will be a lot more challenging, since you have a bunch of players from the other team not only trying to stop you from getting the ball into their net, but they are trying to take the ball and attack your net!

3. You Can Rise to any Challenge

When you see the other team's players coming toward you, do you give up and just hand over the basketball ever so politely? Not on your life! If they want the ball, then they are going to have to take it from your basketball hoop guarding hands.

Just like you use all the resources at your disposal to avoid that happening on the court (speed, skill, and cunning) to try to turn the course of the game to your favor, when you are faced with a challenge in life, you can draw on a number of inner resources to deal with it.

4. You're Stronger Than You Think

When the action is fast and furious and you are going full tilt in the middle of the game, you may be wondering if you have what it takes to continue on. You will find that you do. Our bodies have a wonderful ability to rise to the occasion and give us the extra burst of energy we need to respond to the challenges we face.

When we are pushed to the limit and don't think we have anything else to give, we are surprised to find that we can summon up an extra burst of energy or give just that little bit more to the task. We are all capable of a lot more than we give ourselves credit for and if we were to tap into our potential a bit more often, we may be surprised at what we can achieve.

What lessons have you learned from participating in sports and how can you translate them into your everyday life?<bio>Expertise about basketball goal equipment.
Have you ever dreamed of coaching or managing an NBA team? Fantasy basketball leagues can get your adrenaline going.

Being a member of a fantasy basketball league is fun and exciting for sports fans. With a fantasy basketball team, you're the manager and owner of your own team. You can draft players, trade players or bench players, just like professional managers and owners do in real life. There is even a commissioner who makes sure that no one in the league cheats, and everyone plays according to the league rules.

Fantasy leagues have become an addiction. Before the professional season starts, millions of Americans sign up for fantasy leagues set up by different organizations. These leagues are organized and operated very much like professional basketball leagues. First, you are required to register your team. Generally, a league has 12 teams, although this is not a fixed rule. Some leagues can have as many as 20 teams.

As for your team itself, the roster size varies from league to league, though generally it's set at 14 players. Only nine players are allowed to start every week, and the remaining five stay in reserve, their points not counted.

Draft day is the most exciting day for fantasy leaguers. On draft day, each team is allowed to choose its stock of players, based on their individual performance. In this way, teams can choose several superstars playing different positions. However, draft rules make sure that each team manager in a league has a fair chance, and that no one manager stacks his or her team with all the best players.

In fantasy basketball leagues, winners are decided using two points systems: Head-to-Head, and Rotisserie. In the Head-to-Head league, each team enters the points that its players have scored against a rival team during that week. These points include rebounds, assists, blocks, steals and points scored. The team that earns the most points, based on the way its players have performed on the court, wins that week. In the Rotisserie League, player statistics are tallied up against the entire league.

Before each game begins, you are required to prepare your team line-ups. This is where your skill and knowledge of the game comes into play. You may have superstars on your team, but if you play them in the wrong position, you may not get realize the greatest benefits.

The success of your team depends on how well (or how poorly) the players you have chosen are performing. You have the right to trade away players who are not performing well, or to draft a rookie who has taken the tournament by storm. The trade off is done in a very just manner, overseen by your league commissioner.

The team that tops the league with the most points at the end of the season walks away with the jackpot.

Millions have joined the fun of fantasy basketball leagues. They are fun ways to test your skills as a coach and manager, and prepare you for the day that you just might land that NBA dream job. <bio>Nancy Anderson contributes to several online magazines, including http://recreation-site.com and http://jebog.com </bio>

One positive thing about athletic pursuits is that they give us the opportunity to push ourselves in ways that we may not get to do otherwise. We've come a long way since the days when our ancestors lived in caves and tried to stay one step ahead of the saber toothed cats and other animals that would have loved to make a meal of Early Man.

However, we still feel that "fight or flight" reflex, but more often that not, it's a response to the stress of being part of the urban jungle that so many of us call home. Something happens that is unexpected or unpleasant (and sometimes the thought of something unpleasant happening is enough to trigger this response), and our bodies prepare to either make a stand or run. But we don't really do either and this response seems to be wasted in the situation.

When we get involved in a team sport, it's a different story. We get to challenge ourselves to do well and not let the team down. We also get an opportunity to measure our abilities against the players on the other team.

No matter what kind of team sport you are participating in, the energy that happens when the players are in sync and performing well has a kind of magical quality to it. If it's there, everyone will feel it and if the team is having an off day, then they won't be able to fake it.

There is a beauty to seeing the ebb and flow of a basketball, soccer, or hockey game when all the players are performing well together that the spectators appreciate. The athletes themselves get a rush from the fact that they are pushing themselves to achieve the goal of putting the ball or the puck in the net. Just think of the energy in a game when players guard and approach a basketball hoop with life or death intensity. When they are successful, they get an extra boost that spurs them on to work toward repeating the task.

How many activities can you name that give you the chance to challenge yourself in this way? The truth is that we don't know what we are capable of unless and until we decide to push ourselves out of our own comfort zone. If you start playing the sport of your choice and your team doesn't score on the first pass, then you and your teammates push yourselves to try it again.

Now imagine what you could achieve if you took that grit and determination and quest for the joy of pushing yourself and used it in other parts of your life. How would it affect your performance at work? Can you see yourself pushing yourself just a little more to be that much better in whatever your job entails?

The truth is that it takes real courage to push yourself outside of your comfort zone, especially if you are doing it on your own. The effort is worth it, whether you are on the rink, basketball court, soccer field, relationships or on the job. Try it. You'll surprise yourself with what you can achieve.<bio>An excellent resource to find out best basketball goal and outdoor hoop and goal.
So, you're wondering how you can impress your new boyfriend. You know that he REALLY loves basketball, one team in particular. You want to show him that you'd like to share some of his interests, but how to go about it?

I've actually been in this situation, and went to the one guy I knew who would be able to give me good, reliable information. I called my dad. Yep, my dad is also a big basketball fan, and I knew that he could help me out with what I needed to know.

I didn't want to look like a complete airhead the next time my boyfriend and I sat down to watch a game together on TV; I didn't want to be asking questions every other second. So, I had my dad walk me through the basics of basketball. As an added bonus, my dad also helped me learn the names of the players on my guy's favorite team, and what positions they played. While I had doubts about whether or not I'd be able to remember them all, I did think he'd be touched that I'd taken the time to try.

If you have a guy friend, brother, uncle, cousin, or other type of man in your life, chances are that at least one of them is going to be able to give you a quick primer in the basics of the sport you need to know.

If he's really interested in you, and wants you to be a part of his life, your boyfriend will most likely be happy to discuss his favorite sport with you =96 even if he has to start at the beginning. If your questions are pertinent and not complicated, it will be easy for you to learn about the sport while it's on TV. (Take my advice, though, and don't start asking questions when there's a minute or less on the clock =96 he won't hear you and if he does, he'll just be irritated. Been there, done that.)

Of course, all this is assuming that you have not previously been interested in the type of sports your man enjoys. It is entirely possible, of course, that you yourself have a passion for a particular sport and team. If this is the case, you may already have lots to talk about in this area. You can even engage in some friendly rivalry if you both support teams that play the same sport. Of course, even the most peaceful relationship can experience some intense feelings of dominance and revenge if you happen to support two traditionally opposing teams =96 say University of Florida and Florida State. But even lovers of these diametrically opposed teams have been known to be in love and even cohabitate!

No matter your sports background (or lack thereof) you can talk to your boyfriend about his favorites. Whether you are in the know and spend time comparing the superiority of one team or player over another or are just learning about the ins and outs of the basketball court, just talk about it, or as Nike says, Just Do It! <bio>Find a cool http://www.basketball-hoop-store.com basketball hoop at this top http://www.basketball-hoop-store.com basketball goal retailer.
The organization of your practice can have a profound effect on the entire experience for you and your team. A good structure will help you keep your players attentive, having fun, and everything running smoothly.

A well-organized practice gives everyone the opportunity to have fun.

Our first and most important suggestion is to prepare well ahead of time and develop a written practice plan.

Take the time to strategically plan out and script your entire practice. You should know exactly which drill to run next by looking at your practice plan, which will help you dramatically improve the efficiency of your practice.

Beyond that, here are 10 basketball coaching ideas to help you better structure your practices:

1 =96 Introduce new drills and concepts at the beginning of practice when players are most attentive.

2 =96 Limit each drill to a MAX of 3-5 minutes. Young players just don't have the attention span and brain development to benefit from drills longer than this.

3 - If you have a tough or boring drill coming up, be sure to follow up with a fun one, and let players know what's coming. Many times, just knowing that something fun is around the corner will help them get through a difficult drill.

4 =96 Start to develop a consistent pattern and be sure that you don't go too long without something fun. If you work on intense stuff for too long, your players will get rambunctious and they'll never recover.

5 =96 Choose drills that are fast paced and incorporate conditioning. Avoid running players at the end because they will become anxious about the end of practice. Your normal drills should be so fast paced that you don't need conditioning at the end.

6 =96 Logically organize drills so there is little down time. If a particular drill requires lots of time to set up, then run that drill directly after a break so you can set up while players are getting drinks.

7 =96 Use your players to help you set up drills. For example, you can teach them how to get cones and set them up for certain drills. Have them run to set up the cones between drills so there is no down time. You can even make a game out of it. The player that gets their cones set up first gets two claps. Using this basketball coaching tip will keep your players constantly involved.

8 =96 Use your imagination to keep players busy at ALL times. If a certain drill requires only 5 players, have the rest of your players work on ball handing or jump rope on the side to keep them busy. No standing and waiting.

9 - End each practice on a positive note. Team oriented drills give them a feeling of togetherness as they leave the floor.

10 =96 Break up the monotony. It helps to break things up throughout practice to avoid boredom. Players generally lose focus after working on the same thing for too long, so the more variety the better. For example, you could do 5 minutes of defensive drills and then change things up to a competitive shooting drill that they enjoy. <bio>Jeff Haefner is the owner of http://BreakthroughBasketball.com.
These days, even the littlest school children are playing team sports. They are out there in droves with their whole families watching while they are playing t-ball, peewee football, soccer and even basketball. The rules of the games are simplified to allow these littlest players to learn the basics while having fun and the playing fields and basketball hoops are sized down to fit the players. Watching these pint-sized players makes a person feel good in so many different ways.

Imagine a late spring evening, the park lights are on, cars line the streets and families are out in droves to support the team. The players aren't much bigger than a regular baseball bat, but their love of the game is as big as the field they're playing on. The little players learn the basics of the game and enjoy the benefits of their own accomplishments. The excitement that each little play generates rivals that of any major league team.

Now imagine a wide field marked into numerous smaller soccer fields. The smallest fields with the smallest players have but four players on each side and no goalie. The players run determined behind the ball in a little bunch as it is dribbled up and down the field.

Each player tries his or her hardest to get the ball away from the group and guide it down the field to kick it into the goal. The parents, siblings and grandparents on the sidelines cheer each little attempt and personal accomplishment, often for other players on the team as well as their own. Applause is heard from all whenever one of these littlest players scores, even if it is a score for the other team.

Basketball for the little guys is played on half courts with adjustable basketball hoops that have been lowered to fit the height of these smaller players. They take as much pride in their ability to score a goal as the big guys do though and are cheered just as enthusiastically. Their games are often indoors and out of the chilly weather that often accompanies basketball season.
Anyone who has ever played the sport can attest to the greatness that can come out of a game of basketball. Whether one plays for a purpose, such as making a competition team or just plays for fun, the game itself brings a ton of benefits into the lives of the players that are oftentimes totally overlooked.

Little Johnny and his dad set up their portable outdoor basketball hoop after Mom gave it to them as a Christmas gift. At the time, they had no idea how the many nights they would spend underneath that simple nylon net would become some of the best memories both of them would carry well into the time when Little Johnny had a Little Johnny of his own.

There are countless stories of boys and girls alike who would say that they learned many life lessons, shared stories and grew closer to their families through play. Children learn through play, and so do we adults. Setting up a home basketball court brings about so much more than an opportunity to let off steam and get some exercise; it can open doors of communication, and doors of opportunity for the future.

Just mounting a weather resistant hoop over the garage may seem like a simple task to provide entertainment for the kids, but what it actually can do in the long run is give them reason to exercise, with all the fun their having. To go along with that, should kids get the basketball bug that then leads them into their school basketball program, it can lead to better nutrition all around, since coaches are consistent about advising players to avoid sugary drinks and candy.

Aside from motivating kids to get outside with mom, dad, siblings and friends, a basketball hoop can also provide the drive for kids to do better in school. Should they desire to play on a school team, they will undoubtedly be driven to keep that GPA up, but mom and dad can even use that home basketball hoop as leverage for getting school work and chores done!

Listen up Moms, Dads, Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents! A home basketball hoop for the kids is not just another toy. By creating an area, either indoors or out, where the kiddos can shoot some hoops, preferably with you, you can make a much bigger impact on their lives. And in turn, you just might receive many of the benefits yourselves.

Finding the right basketball hoop for your home is quite easy, really. All outdoor hoops are made with weather resistant materials and have options that make installing and using them easy as 1-2-3. There are even hoops of all kinds for inside the home or office, giving ample opportunity for everyone to get in on the fun.

Get a sturdy basketball hoop for your family and let the good times roll. There are so many different types and styles to choose from so you're sure to find the perfect hoop that meets all your needs.<bio>Author Bill Parsons is the creative author of a variety of online specialty stores that offer both items and information for all your athletic equipment needs.
There are many professional basketball players who have many different talents, and some teams have players who specialize in the defense and others that specialize in offense. Yet there is one player who can do it all. This talented NBA player is Kobe Bryant. He is probably the best player in the entire NBA. During one game, he scored a whopping eighty-one points. This caused him to score nearly 60 % of the total score for the Los Angeles Lakers, which is an astounding percentage. Some people feel that he is merely a ball hog, and sometimes he may actually be a ball-hog, but being one isn't a negative thing. It's actually a positive thing because he's doing a great deal to help his team make it to the play-offs. One pro basketball player can't possibly win a game by himself, so obviously the entire team has to contribute, and they definitely do.

Although Kobe Bryant is an awesome player, and has scored such high amounts per game, there is another basketball player who has outscored him. This person is Wilt Chamberlain, and he is currently deceased. Chamberlain scored an amazing one hundred points in a single game. He played for the San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, yet he retired from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Again, though, we can't forget about the importance of the other players and their significance in assisting the team in winning the game, and ultimately the championship. Besides just scoring a play in defense, there are many players who contribute by assisting and getting rebounds and blocking shots. Every pro basketball player has his area of expertise. Some players don't do well at making free-throw shots, but they may do well making regular baskets. On the other hand, a player may do excellent at making all or most free-throw shots, but not as well making regular shots. Wilt Chamberlain was famous for his 'underhand' free throw shot, which he did very well at.

Although Ben Wallace of the Detroit Pistons plays pro basketball very well, he doesn't do very well with free-throw shots. Perhaps it is because of the pressure that placed on him in that moment, especially if scoring could mean the difference between winning or losing the game.

So, as you can see, there are some really prolific NBA players, no matter if they score immense amounts or block many shots <bio>Leon Groom writes about http://www.nbagearshop.com/Coupons/NBAStore.com.html, http://www.nbagearshop.com and http://www.nbagearshop.com/Coupons/Football%20Fanatics.html </bio>

I wound up volunteering to coach basketball, a game I new nearly nothing about. Shortly after I wound up with the job, a parent approached me and asked what sort of coaching style I was going to use. After I managed to clear up the blank look on my face and stammer out some lame answer, I drove quickly to the privacy of my own home to avoid any more questions, and thus, not let my inexperience be known, for I knew after that question that I was in way over my head.

At the time I was probably more suited to coach football, but basketball was what I was dealt. A buddy of mine who had played basketball in high school told me that his coach had used a hands-on coaching style. The coach played with the athletes, showing them the different techniques to use, and what situation to use them in, etc...However, he also pointed out that coaching basketball is more than just playing basketball with the kids like his coach did, but coaching is also about teaching fundamental skills that the players will use for life, as well as team work.

Feeling even more hopeless and confused after this conversation I set out to do heavy research on the topic of coaching basketball. I immediately realized that a large list of references existed to help me, which gave me a great feeling of relief. I had never thought of such concepts as team play, sportsmanship and sharing in regards to coaching sports before, but from my reading I began to get familiar with the topics and ideas. I quickly learned that basketball was about more than just putting a ball through a hoop.

As part of my research I began reading articles that focused on building skills and confidence level in young athletes while coaching. I did my best to absorb everything, but still felt that I might be a little out of my element coaching a basketball team. I had to constantly reassure myself that I could do it. The whole experience ultimately taught me that before you can coach other people you must be able to coach yourself, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

I've been coaching for six weeks now. I feel I've done a fair job of helping my players build skills and confidence levels they can use on the court and in the real world. This experience has taught me much about myself and about coaching. In regards to coaching, I have learned that it is not all fun and games, but a huge responsibility; however, I think I've prepared myself for the challenge. After all, my team is 5 and 1.

While coaching a team might seem a very attractive job to many a sports fan, it is not easy. I only coach at the Junior High level and it's exhausting and stressful. I can't imagine what it is like at the professional level, and I don't want to. If you are interested in being a coach, make sure and give it some serious thought. <bio>Read more from Joe Goertz at: http://www.mysports-magazine.com </bio>

While not really an offensive basketball shooting move, free throws are very important as they still contribute points to the scoreboards. It has been proven many times over that free throws can be crucial in important games. Such fact warrants that every basketball player should be accurate from the foul line, or else end up like Shaquille O'Neal who, during his younger days in the NBA, was the target of consistent fouling to make him go to the freethrow line. His poor freethrow shooting made him a liability during tight ball games.

While it can be an easy shot for most players, especially those with a knack for midrange and 3-point shooting, a freethrow can also be the most difficult to make. Players who have low self-confidence or can be easily broken psychologically experience difficulties in making a freethrow, even if they are exceptionally good shooters during game time. Mental pressure does come into play during freethrows -- crowds booing, other team players saying things for distraction, and even the gravity of situation can spell a lot on a person's freethrow accuracy.

Apart from the usual, basic method of freethrow practice, there are several basketball shooting drills that are effective in increasing freethrow accuracy, though in general these drills and basketball shooting workouts are used to improve a player's midrange shooting.

To The Foul Line

This drill is designed for novices who are starting to work with their freethrows. There are three different shooting spots in this drill, all places in front and straight from the basket. Position A is located just a foot in front of the basket. Position B is slightly farther away, just between Position A and the foul line. Position C is at the freethrow line.

For this particular drill, you will need two players and at least one basketball.

Instructions:

Player 1 will start from Position A and try to make as many shots as possible within 1 minute. Player 2 will grab the rebounds and pass them to Player 1. While shooting, coaches should emphasize the proper basketball shooting form when doing the drill. Since this is a freethrow exercise, coaches should also instill to the player that he should not jump and must remain planted on his feet.

If Player 1 is able to make 20 shots within 1 minute, he can now move on to the second spot and repeat the same procedure. If he makes another set of 20 shots within the same amount of time, he can then move to the freethrow line.

The goal of this drill is to teach basketball novices the basics of freethrow shooting and getting them accustomed to take shots without jumping. This drill also helps them to adjust their strength when shooting near or far from the basket. By gradually moving them away from the basket, they get more and more proficient with not just their freethrow shooting, but overall shooting skills in general.

But accuracy is only half of the equation as a player must also be tough mentally to block out any distractions. Teaching kids some useful tips like having a mantra or a habit to help them relax before taking a freethrow shot improves the players' chance of making the shot.<bio>For more basketball shooting tips, drills, and workouts, go to: www.breakthroughbasketball.com/pr/btshooting.html"</bio>

Many people find that they have social relationships with people from school or from work. The problem with having only these kinds of acquaintances is that the relationship is based on the fact that you are in the same location for a certain number of hours each day. If one of you leaves, there isn't enough common ground for you to maintain the relationship and you don't keep in touch over the long term.

If you are interested in making some new friends, what can you do? Joining a team is a wonderful way to meet some people that you may not otherwise meet. Your common interest brings you together for some good times.

Choosing a Team

The first thing you need to figure out is what kind of team you are interested in joining. If you are looking at a sports team, like lacrosse, basketball, soccer, or hockey, you need to be honest with yourself about your level of athletic ability and ability to commit to playing on a regular basis. Are you driven enough to play in a competitive league? Are you willing to commit to attending games and tournaments (which may involve travel) as part of the deal? If not, then you may want to join a recreational league and focus on having fun.

Once you have determined how much time and energy you are prepared to devote to this pursuit, it's time to start looking for a team to join. There are a few different approaches you can take to find out what is available in your area.

You can get a lot of good information online. With a few clicks of your mouse, you can find listings for local teams and leagues near you. This is a way that you can learn something about the team and its members to get a feel for whether you would be a good fit. If the first one (or few) you click on don't seem to be quite right, no need to despair...just keep looking.

Another way to find a team to join is to check out the locations where they play. Visit your local soccer field, skating rink, or gym where basketball games are being held to get information. (Many rec centers have adjustable basketball hoops that can be used by players at different ages and skill levels.)The leagues that are active in your area may have posters up or brochures that you can take home.

Advantages of Joining a Team

When you sign up for a group activity, you walk into the situation with something in common with all of your fellow players. If you are a bit shy, you won 't with what to say to continue the conversation after you say hello to your fellow players.

Being part of a team means that you have a sense of belonging, and we humans are very social animals. There is reason why being put in solitary confinement is a punishment, after all! By sharing a team activity, you give your social life a boost, which is something we can all use sometimes.<bio>Find quality goal systems, from portable goals to heavy duty inground hoops, you can find the hoop or goal you're looking for.</bio>

Basketball is a very exciting sport to watch, and NBA basketball is among the absolute best. The high-scoring games and the high-flying dunks--even the way that they hang in the air in order to get off a shot, all add to the game's excitement. But sometimes, though, something happens during an NBA basketball game that you as a fan, can not control. Sometimes the players become so angry with one another during a game that things escalate from a simple heated argument, to a full-fledged fist fight, right on the court. These brawls can even get so out of hand that they spill into the stands, where the fans are.

Many people wonder how these brawls begin, and most of the time, the losing team starts them. Even though it's usually the losing team that starts them, it is sometimes the winning one. The winning team will taunt the other team, causing the losing team to became angry and retaliate by what they call a hard foul. Like when Ben Wallace and Ron Artest got into an argument, which quickly escalated. Many of the other players were drawn into the fight, as well. The worst thing about it is that there were fans involved in the fight, and that's when things really became very dangerous. Several of the NBA players were fined and suspended from a certain amount of games. Fortunately major tussles like this don't happen all the time, but when they do happen, it's usually very serious.

Just recently the Denver Nuggest and the New York Nicks were playing, and Denver was beating the Nicks badly. There was a hard foul on the Nuggets that triggered it all. This brawl also spilled into the stands, but fortunately, the fans stayed out of this one. These players, just like the ones involved in the other brawl, were fined and suspended from a certain number of games.

A good thing to study is what makes these players become so angry that they end up in horrible and dangerous physical altercations. Well, stress and pressure is probably a major cause of it. The players are under an immense amount of pressure to perform well, and win as many games as possible so that they have a chance at winning the Championship. Perhaps anger management and stress management should be mandatory classes for all NBA players to undergo in order to prevent and minimize these brawls. <bio>For the NBA fans, there is some great gear at great prices at: http://www.nbagearshop.com. </bio>

Football is the most popular sport in the world with its grand stage, the World Cup every four years. Many of the world's players can become huge celebrities if they perform well during the World Cup. Fans will travel across the globe just to make sure that they see their favorite team play. This type of excitement can not be duplicated by any other sport anywhere in the world. Football does a wonderful job building many different skills in young children. These skills can help them progress in football, other sports, and in life in general.

Some of the physical skills that football will help children develop are speed, quickness, balance, endurance, and strength. Football players must have these skills to be able to play the game even at a young age. Players that develop these useful skills when they are young, have a great chance to blossom into a star later in life. Also many of these children will take these skills and use them in other sports as well. The skills learned in football can translate well into almost any sport. American football players, basketball players, baseball players, and even hockey players can benefit from playing football at an early age. One of my favorite basketball players of all time, Hakeem Olajuwon, grew up playing football in Africa. He attributed his great balance and coordination to the many years playing football. I believe that every child should grow up playing football, because I think that it can help them later on in life.

Football can also teach children many life lessons that they can look back on as they grow older.
