If you are someone that is looking for information about asthma, working with any of these societies that are geared towards providing relevant information that you need is a great place to start. For many people that visit these society pages, the goal is to learn about what asthma is and how in the world you will learn to deal with and even live with it. Many of those that visit the society are looking for more information about asthma because they have just been told by their doctors that they have asthma or that they may have it.

What is important to take note of when visiting any society's website to learn more about asthma is that your condition is not alone. Today, there are many millions of people that have asthma and live with it day in and day out. Asthma does become a condition that you need to manage but when you do so carefully, following the recommendations that the society for asthma as well as your doctor tell you, you can lead a normal life without worrying about asthma every day of it.

Another benefit of any of the asthma societies that you will find throughout the web is the wide range of new treatment options available. There are always tests and clinical studies being done to help aid those that are suffering from asthma to get relief. New medications, new treatments, and even new diagnosing tools are something that can offer a bit of help to those that are looking for a solution to their asthma condition.
Understanding asthma cause factors can help you to insure that you know why and what is likely to happen to you. Those that face asthma do so, on a daily basis. The cause or triggers of their episodes or attacks really can range in what they are. But, what brings on the disease of asthma in the first place? Understanding this can help to provide you with the overall best results when it comes to treating your asthma condition as well.

For some people, asthma is caused by hereditary conditions, passed down through the course of their family genes. Yet, for others the cause of the asthma that they have has to do with the outside factors such as the environment in which they live. Still, there can be an infection or allergy that causes the asthma to come on as well. While finding out what has caused asthma in your specific case may seem important, what is more important is to know what causes your asthma attacks instead.

In this case, the cause of your asthma is that of the trigger. The trigger can be things such as dust, fumes, mists, smoke, cold air, or other conditions. In some people, too much physical activity, such as exercising, can bring on an asthma attack. Still others can get it just from laughing or from anxiety. The cause of your asthma will be something that you specifically need to take into consideration. Each person that has asthma needs to understand what is causing their condition in the hopes of insuring that they can avoid those things.

When it comes to asthma, the causes of your asthma attacks are very important things to know. You and your doctor can work out this to help in determining what the cause of the attack is so that you can better avoid it. If you do not do this, you will find that you may be unprepared to handle the asthma attack if and when it happens to you. <bio>Roger Thompson writes about asthma, health related Issues and Jobs for http://www.idohealthcare.com </bio>

Is there an asthma cure? While we know that there are millions of people around the world that are suffering from asthma, the cure for this condition may or may not be in the works. If you suffer from asthma, though, there are many things that you can do to just about cure your asthma attacks. The chronic condition of asthma is something that many suffer from on a daily basis. But, with the help of the right medications, possibly even all natural treatments for asthma, and the right type of lifestyle, those that have asthma may be able to avoid and even cure the symptoms that they face.

The cure for asthma may happen one day but until then there are some things that the asthma sufferer can do to feel better. First off, the asthma sufferer should determine what their trigger is. About 60 percent of all of those that face asthma have an allergic reaction to something that brings on an asthma attack. Removing that trigger from their lifestyles can work as the first step in the cure to asthma for them. Improving their health and well being by getting exercise, staying fit and keeping in good spirits can also improve and even help take a step closer to curing their asthma.

In addition to these things, those that want to find a cure for their asthma symptoms should work on insuring they have the best medications in store for the asthma attack should it come on and they should have the best possible natural remedies on hand to help in warding off possible asthma attacks as well. Natural products always work in a natural way to help the individual to rid themselves of the occurrence of asthma attacks. While there is no for sure cure just yet, there are many possible ways to improve the lifestyle and cure symptoms of asthma that you face. <bio>Roger Thompson writes about asthma, health related issues and jobs for http://www.idohealthcare.com </bio>

Adults and Asthma

This article talks about Asthma for the grown up and elderly. We know that asthma has many medical implications.

Adult asthma normally comes from one of three conditions. First off, some adults that have had asthma their entire lives or that have had it since childhood are in one condition. In the second, the asthma was there during childhood and then all symptoms of asthma were gone for a period of time and then sometime later in their adult life, asthma has come back. Finally, there are those adults that are first getting asthma during their adult years. In this case, the asthma is almost always brought on by occupational asthma conditions, or poor working conditions or exposure to triggers that over time developed into asthma in the individual.

Anyone that has asthma, including the adult, can find the help that they need in treating and living with it. As you will learn as an asthma patient, there are many types of medications on the market that can be used to treat asthma both in the episodes that you may experience (asthma attacks) as well as in the day to day living arrangements. Those that have had asthma as a child and then had no symptoms of asthma for much of their life only to have it resurface are often the hardest patients to treat. Here, something, possibly contaminants or even infection, has caused the resurgence of the asthma and it is often a severe case when this happens.

In cases where occupational asthma is the culprit, it is often the asthma specialist's first course of action to determine what the trigger is that is causing the asthma outbreaks. Then, the first treatment for this type of asthma will be to avoid that trigger. Of course, your doctor will help you to determine what that is and will work with you to determine just what can be done to help provide you with relief from your asthma. Even as an adult, it is important to seek out the help you need for asthma. <bio>Roger Thompson writes about asthma, health related issues and jobs for http://www.Idohealthcare.com </bio>

The asthma diagnosis comes from a series of tests. In many cases, a doctor will be able to determine if a patient has asthma and diagnose them right on the spot. In these cases, the diagnosis will be determined by the patient's pre history. The doctor will look at the patient's history of illness as well as his family history to determine if the symptoms and signs there are likely to be that of asthma. In addition, most doctors will use a simple examination to confirm their diagnosis of the asthma condition.

When an adult is to be diagnosed with asthma, the doctor may take some measurements of his airways. In asthma, the airways will constrict tightly, not allowing enough air to pass through them. This is a test that offers diagnosis of the condition, but can not be done on children. The doctor will use what is called a peak flow meter to help test and then diagnosis the adult asthma patient. In addition to it using an inhaler to test the benefits it offers to the potential asthma patient. For children to be diagnosed with asthma, the doctor will look at his medical history. Then, to insure that the patient does have asthma, he or she will monitor the child's response to various inhalers using bronchodilator medications.

In many cases, a doctor will diagnosis asthma within a matter of minutes due simple to the conditions that the patient is facing. Those that are facing asthma symptoms will usually be able to be diagnosed based on the conditions in which they face asthma like reactions. Doctors often can diagnosis a patient within a matter of minutes just by knowing the various factors that cause the body to react. In these cases, the final test comes from testing medications on the potential asthma sufferer to see if they do in fact relieve the condition. <bio>Roger Thomson writes about asthma, health related issues and jobs for http://www.idohealthcare.com </bio>

<a href="http://www.artwoo.com/tag/asthma+inhalers" rel="tag">Asthma inhalers allow a person that is facing asthma to experience what is happening to them with a bit of protection along the way. Asthma is not a condition that can be predicted. There are going to be times when something that you did not know was there causes a trigger in the person that causes the reaction of blocked airways. Although there are many various methods to treating asthma, having an inhaler is almost a must for those that face this type of condition with any severity. Even those that have mild asthma that does not often trigger with an episode should have access to an inhaler.

An inhaler that is used for asthma is quite important. This tool allows a person to get the almost immediate relief that they need from an asthma reaction. If you are outdoors, enjoying the day and then all of a sudden find yourself facing a reaction to the mist that you are breathing in, you need to be able to have an inhaler to help you. These inhalers work by allowing you to simply breathe in the medication quickly. This allows it to get right into your airways causing the muscles there to open up and allow you to breath normally again. Other medications that are taken in the form of a pill or even those that are injections will take more time to actual get into your system and provide help.

Not everyone that has asthma will have the same medications within their inhaler. The severity of your specific asthma reaction is what will trigger the type of medication that your doctor prescribes. You should always keep your medications up to date and keep them with you to provide the help that only your inhaler can. Of course, no one wants to use the inhalers that they have but when a time comes that you need one, can there be anything else that is more important? <bio>Roger Thompson writes about asthma, health related Issues and jobs for http://www.idohealthcare.com </bio>

Asthma is a condition that results in the narrowing and constriction of bronchial tubes that deliver air to the lungs, making breathing much more difficult. Asthma is triggered by exposure to substances like dust, pollen, animal hair and smoke, collectively know as allergens.

The exact cause of asthma is not known, but there is a genetic link. Asthma tends to run in families from one generation to the next. Lifestyle and environmental factors are also believed to cause asthma, as researchers have discovered a significant rise in asthma in children over the past 20 years.

Sign of an asthma attack

During an asthma attack, sufferers often make wheezing sounds when exhaling and have a cough that worsens at night, after exercise, of after exposure to an allergen. In severe cases, breathing becomes very rapid, the heart rate increase and the children may vomit. When your asthma symptoms become worse than usual, it's called an asthma attack. In a severe asthma attack, the airways can close so much that your vital organs do not get enough oxygen. People can die from severe asthma attacks.

Diagnosing and managing asthma

If your child wheezes or complains of trouble breathing, then a visit to the doctor is in order. Your doctor will check lung function and may administer a dose of asthma medication to see if the child responds favorably (a rapid improvement after receiving the medication is a good indicator that the child has asthma).

No special diets are generally indicated. Food allergy as a trigger for asthma is uncommon. Avoidance of foods is recommended after a double-blind food challenge that yields positive results. Sulfites have been implicated in some severe asthma exacerbations and should be avoided in sensitive individuals.

Though asthma is a chronic, lifelong condition with no cure, it can be mange effectively through medication and other measures. Daily "controller" medication using an inhaler helps reduce the frequency of attack, while a separate "rescue" medication is used at the onset of attack. Limiting exposure to allergens is another effective means to control asthma and help your child breathe easier. <bio>http://www.asthma-disease.com </bio>

If you or a loved one suffer from asthma, it is important to know about asthma control and ways to prevent the condition from affecting your health and well-being. Your doctor should be able to give you important asthma information during your visits, but you should also know a few things that will make asthma control easier for you on a day to day basis.

Since asthma affects your airways, you will want to figure out what triggers an asthma attack. During an asthma attack, the airways become especially small and sore, and prevent vital organs in the body from getting enough oxygen--especially the lungs. Some people experience asthma symptoms simply because their airways are swollen or constricted on a regular basis; this could be due to other conditions, such as sinus infections or lung complications. However, some asthma sufferers have allergic asthma, which means that certain factors cause the asthma, such as dust, pollen, certain foods, and pet hair. If you think that you may have allergic asthma, the condition is much easier to treat; simply dust as often as possible to prevent allergic reactions in the home, and keep pets out of the home. You may also want to visit an allergist to find out if certain foods or cosmetics are causing allergic asthma symptoms, so that you can receive a list of things to avoid.

It is also important to realize that people of every age group can suffer from asthma. Asthma in infants is somewhat common, and the condition should be treated and monitored as soon as possible in order to prevent further damage to the lungs as the child grows. Some people also experience asthma symptoms during the adolescent years, when tolerances to certain food substances and plant combinations change in the body.

For long term treatment of asthma, be sure to visit your doctor to find out in detail how your condition should be remedied, since everyone's asthma condition will be slightly different. There are two major forms of medication for asthma; quick relief medicines, such as the Epi-Pen, offer immediate relief during an allergic reaction or asthma attack, and longer term control medicines such as Singular work to open the airways on a daily basis in order to prevent asthma attacks. If you are unsure which type of asthma you have, and think you may need to have more tests done to determine if you have asthma, be sure to visit your doctor as soon as possible in order to receive the treatment you need.

Making sure that you are eating a diet that is rich in antioxidants, such as raw fruits and vegetables, will also help to fight off signs and symptoms of asthma. Many people also suffer from allergic asthma, so eating the right foods will help to cut down on signs of asthma. Staying away from foods that could cause more mucus to form in the body, which could further block the airways, so getting a skin prick test to find out what these foods are will significantly help to improve your health. <bio>If you are looking for more information on allergy or asthma conditions you need to visit: http://www.asthmaallergiestreatment.com </bio>

Do you wheeze and gasp after physical activity? Do you feel like your chest is filled with mucus and have impaired breathing after you have been around pollen and a long haired cat? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions then you may suffer from asthma, allergies, or both asthma and allergies. It is easy to confuse asthma and allergies because they have very similar symptoms. While there symptoms may be the same, the underlying causes of each condition are different and the treatment for each condition is very different. Therefore, it is critical to know how to identify the difference between allergies and asthma symptoms.

So what are the symptoms of asthma? The common symptoms of asthma include: persistent coughing, gasping for air, wheezing, a tight chest, decreased tolerance of physical activity, and persistent chest colds.

So what are the symptoms of allergies? Allergies come in many forms from skin allergies to sinus allergies. Symptoms of allergies include coughing, sneezing, wheezing, and itching in reaction to triggers such as pet dander, pollen, and mold. If you have allergies you can suffer from persistent chest colds and rhinitis as well.

As you can see the symptoms of asthma and allergies are similar. Some people even suffer from allergic asthma. Environmental triggers such as perfumes and cigarette smoke cause their airways to constrict and experience an asthma attack.

What causes asthma? Asthma is the result of inflammation in your airways. It is a chronic disease that requires both short term and long term medication. Most people with asthma have a genetic predisposition to condition. Their asthma is revealed either in childhood or adulthood based on outside factors such as exercise or environmental triggers.

What causes allergies? Allergies are the result of environmental factors as well as genetics. Allergies do not inflame your airways like asthma.

So how do you know if you have asthma, allergies, or allergic asthma? You will need to have a doctor give you a proper diagnosis. It is important to see a doctor so that you can find the most effective medication for your condition.

How will a doctor determine the diagnosis between asthma, allergies, and allergic asthma? Since asthma has to do with the inflammation of your lungs, your doctor will test your lungs. Basically, you will blow into a spirometer to measure your air flow and a variety of medical factors. They will also have you track your symptoms and give your medical history.

Once your doctor has determined whether or not you have asthma they will create a health wellness plan to follow. For example, if you do have asthma you will learn about the various asthma medications. You will learn what to do to stop an asthma attack as well as remove asthma triggers from your environment.

If you do have asthma, one of your strongest weapons is to learn all you can about asthma. Find out what medications are available, look for support groups, and learn the best way to manage this chronic disease. You can find a plan that best meets your needs while living a healthy, normal life. <bio>Are you an asthma sufferer?
One of the common symptoms of asthma is coughing, particularly during the night. It generally doesn't have the typical wheeziness most coughs product, however. This night cough has a particularly negative effect because it can affect the sleep of both the asthma sufferer and anyone else in the house.

This cough is often the first sign of asthma in children, so if their cough continues for any length of time it's best to let their doctor know. It's also often a warning sign that asthma is either getting worse or is not being controlled properly.

If someone who is asthmatic develops a persistent cough it is paramount that they follow their prescribed asthma treatment. These treatments - usually inhalers - contain medication that will usually relieve their cough.

It's important to understand that coughing is a symptom of asthma - not the condition itself. The underlying cause of the coughing needs to be addressed in order to eliminate the problem.

If any of the following symptoms accompany your cough, it's important that you consult with your doctor as soon as possible:

- Fever and/or sweating - Whooping cough or croup - Coughing up discolored phlegm - Sudden weight loss - Chest pain - Swelling and pain in the calves - Recurring night-time cough - Shortness of breath and/or wheezing

Treating asthma that is characterized by coughing spells is no different than any other asthma characterized by other symptoms. Inhaled corticosteroids are generally the most helpful, with inhaled beta2-agonists also helping.

If the symptoms of asthma are particularly severe, oral corticosteroids are often used as an initial treatment, followed by the inhaled version.

Your doctor will be able to properly diagnose the condition and prescribe the treatment that is best suited for your particular case and situation. If you have any symptoms that could be related to asthma, it's best to consult with your doctor as quickly as possible. <bio>Jackson Sperry writes about childhood asthma symptoms and treatments as well as other related topics for the Asthma Explained website.
Asthma is a chronic lung condition that is characterized by breathing difficulties. People who suffer from asthma have air passages that are extra sensitive or hyper-responsive. In the course of an asthma attack, the airways become irritated and react by narrowing and constricting, causing increased resistance to airflow, and obstruction of the flow of air through the air passages to and from the lungs.

There is research to indicate that the symptoms of asthma may worsen when stomach acid rises in your throat. This condition is called gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. It is commonly referred to as acid reflux. One result of acid reflux is painful heartburn which can be relieved with the administration of antacid medicines. These are special medications which neutralize stomach acids. Acid reflux commonly affects older and overweight people. However, it can also occur in children and people of all types.

There have been studies in which researchers have injected acid into the stomachs of asthma sufferers and it had a significant impact on their asthma resulting in worsened asthma symptoms. Evidence also suggest that asthma sufferers get acid reflux with greater frequency than people who do not suffer from asthma. This is probably due to great pressure changes present in the chest of people with asthma during the course of breathing. This high pressure could cause liquid to travel up the esophagus from the stomach.

In these cases, it would seem that people who have asthma lose out twice: they suffer from asthma and they may suffer from acid reflux more often than people who do not suffer from asthma. However, there is more to this story. If acid reflux was an genuine and important cause of increase in asthma severity, then acid reflux treatments should make the asthma better, however, this is generally not the case.

In the meantime, if you suffer from both asthma and acid reflux, it could just be that careful management of your reflux will ease your breathing. If your asthma is severe and the cause is unknown, some doctors might test to see whether you have or had acid reflux by conducting tests to measure your stomach acidity. If the result showed acid reflux tendencies, then your doctor would most likely attempt to improve your lungs by treating your stomach. <bio>David Brown writes for several web sites, including http://bowem.com and http://sofod.com </bio>

Those that have allergic asthma are known to have chronic inflammatory conditions within their breathing airways. Those that face allergic types of asthma will have an asthma attack that is brought on by the various types of contact with such things as they are allergic to such as dust, pollen, dander and even mold. The treatment for this type of asthma is important to take note of although the treatment method often starts by learning what the allergy is.

Those that have allergic forms of asthma are those that often have the same types of symptoms as other asthma patients. It is estimated that about 60 percent of those that suffer from asthma actually have allergic asthma. The symptoms of an attack are the same as other asthma in that shortness of breath, changing breathing patterns, pain in the chest area, wheezing, coughing and rapid breathing are all experienced by those that suffer from this form of asthma. The most common way to get this type of asthma is to inherit it from a parent or relative that has had allergic asthma.

As far as treatment goes, the first step is to determine the allergn to individual and then to avoid that allergen. In doing this, the frequency of allergic reactions will happen. The same medications that are used to treat other asthma sufferers such as anti inflammatory, are used to treat those that suffer from allergic asthma. In addition, there are other medications that can be taken to limit the reaction that the body has to the allergen thereby lower the frequency of the asthma reactions. Those that face asthma should determine if allergic asthma may be behind their asthma. If so, avoiding the trigger to that allergy will help in minimizing the asthma attacks. <bio>Roger Thompson writes about asthma, health related Issues and jobs for http://www.idohealthcare.com </bio>

Asthma is a chronic condition where people have trouble breathing. These breathing problems are brought on by hyper-responsive airways, which become irritated during an asthma attack and constrict in response. This increases the resistance to airflow and allows less air to reach the lungs.

Some people who suffer from asthma will be affected by altitude, whether in an airplane or simply at a higher elevation. If you are in relatively good health and your asthma is under control, however, you shouldn't have any serious problems with altitude, provided the ascent is not too fast. In some cases, asthma medication may need to be adjusted to cope with the altitude change.

If the conditions are very cold, inhalers may not work properly because the pressurization can be affected. If this is the case, warm them somehow prior to using them.

One of the reasons that higher altitudes can aggravate asthma is because the air is quite often drier and colder. If your asthma is often triggered by cold, higher altitudes could contribute to that.

If the higher altitude is reached by climbing - say hiking up a mountain - the exercise may also trigger asthma for some people. This is not exactly due to altitude, but this can add to the problem when combined with the changes in air and temperature at higher altitudes.

Some people may find that higher altitudes can actually improve their asthma. If a person's asthma is triggered by dust mites, altitude may help because dust mites are not able to survive in the colder temperatures.

If you are flying somewhere that is at a higher elevation, keep in mind that you won't have a chance to acclimatize yourself for the change. If this is the case, you should discuss it with your doctor to be sure you are prepared. <bio>Are you looking for information about the link between asthma and childhood?
Asthma is a chronic lung disorder caused when the airways react to certain allergens or stimuli. If it isn't treated and managed effectively, it can ultimately become a life-threatening disease.

People can develop asthma during adulthood, even if they've never had any problems earlier in life - even during middle age or even older. This is known as Adult Onset Asthma.

Proper diagnosis is important because asthma symptoms are often similar to other illnesses that can develop in adults, including chest problems, cough and even heart disease.

The most common asthma symptoms in adults include the following:

- Wheezing - Shortness of breath - Persistent cough - Excess mucus production - Pain or tightness in the chest

There are number of things that can trigger asthma in adulthood. One of the most common - and severe - triggers is smoking. Cigarette smoke can cause acute asthma episodes as well as increased sensitivity to other allergens.

Smoking will always make asthma more severe and can also lead to other problems such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Smoking doesn't only effect the smoker who is asthmatic, either. Second hand smoke will aggravate asthma for anyone exposed to it, and fetal exposure to maternal smoking can also lead to early onset asthma.

Some of the other common asthma triggers in adults include:

- Pollen, mold and other allergens - Strong odors - Infections - Certain medications such as beta-blockers and anti-inflammatory drugs - Dust - Exercise

Asthma is a permanent condition - not something that is treated then gone. Even when the symptoms are not apparent, the condition still exists.

As people get older, the lungs become less and less capable, resulting in more pronounced effects from asthma. For this reason, adult onset asthma must be managed properly because if the lungs deteriorate, they may never recover. The sooner it can be identified, the better. <bio>Jackson Sperry discusses asthma respirators and other asthma-related topics on the Asthma Explained website.
Asthma is a very serious condition affecting both children and adults. The effects of an Asthma attack are disabling if your doctor doesn't know about your condition, leaving you improperly cared for. Though treatments for Asthma are much more advanced than they were years ago, more than half a million people every year, are in need of in-patient care while nearly four thousand ultimately die. How your doctor or specialist chooses to treat your asthma is based on your age and how severe your Asthma is.

It's possible to pass Asthma on to a child through heredity, but more likely asthma is caused by your environment. An Asthma attacks happens when allergens infiltrate your respiratory system causing your bronchiole airway to constrict which leads to over production of mucous. It's also possible to bring on an Asthma attack by merely laughing. There are plenty of warning signs to indicate an Asthma attack is brewing.

If you have a history of Asthma or suspect you or someone you know might, watch for signs such as: Coughing (sometimes so severe it wakes you from sleep), wheezing, tightness in the chest and the feeling of not being able to catch your breath. If you experience these symptoms its imperative you seek medical attention immediately.

If you have mild or intermittent Asthma, your doctor may suggest the use of over-the-counter medication such as a bronchodilator. More severe Asthma may require the use of a prescription medication or an inhaler containing corticosteroids, as treatment. Prescription medications used to treat Asthma contain active ingredients used to decrease the inflammation in the lungs and sensitivity to allergens. A bronchodilator is prescribed and used for immediate relief of Asthma symptoms but has no long lasting effects.

It's possible your doctor will choose to use a combination of treatments to relieve your Asthma symptoms and attacks. An ever popular and effective treatment for Asthma caused by allergies in children and adults is Immunotherapy. This method works by building antibodies in the system to the allergens that set off the attacks by exposing the Asthmatic to ever increasing doses of said allergen. Eventually, the allergy is resolved and with it, hopefully, the Asthma attacks. This article in no way should be taken as medical advice.

As with any medical condition, its important to speak with your doctor for the best course of action and prevention. If you are currently under your doctors care for Asthma, and feel your symptoms are not improving, speak with him/her about alternate forms of treatment. If short term inhalers are being used often, this is a good indication your Asthma is not effectively being controlled.

Ask your doctor about physical exercise, how much is too much and if there are certain activities you should avoid or limit. Breathing should not be a chore, tell your doctor today if you suspect that you or someoneyou love may e suffering from Asthma. <bio>Karina Jacobsen is a staff writer at http://www.wellness-digest.com and is an occasional contributor to several other websites, including http://www.alternativehealthadvisor.com. </bio>

Many believe that the majority of asthma cases are confined to adults, but this is definitely an incorrect assumption. because asthma in kids has become increasingly common in the last 20 years. We are uncertain as to why this is so, but it is an undoubted fact that in the United States alone there are 5,000,000+ children beneath the age of 18 who suffer from asthmic symptoms.

In a recent study (2004) it was discovered that the #1 cause of absenteeism in school is asthma, accounting for a whopping 14,000,000 lost days in school. According to the American Lung Association, four million kids below the age of 18 had an asthma attack during this year.

Anyone, at any age, can manifest asthmatic symptoms - even infants - but most often symptoms manifest themselves around the young age of five.

Who Is Most Vulnerable To An Asthma Attack?

1. Boys are more likely than girls to be sick in earlier childhood

2. Children of African American descent are more vulnerable than Caucasians, Hispanics or Asians

3. And, not surprisingly, children in our increasingly polluted cities are more vulnerable than kids in the less-crowded suburbs and rural areas

Symptoms Of Childhood Asthma

Childhood asthma is like adult asthma in that the symptoms are generally the same:

* Inflammation in the airways * Coughing * Difficulty in breathing * Wheezing * Rapid breathing * Shortness of breath * Symptoms that worsen at night * Tightness in the chest

There is a special problem with childhood asthma that doesn't apply to adults and that is that children are much less inclined to take care of themselves and thus the parental role is critical. Some kids are simply too young to assume this responsibility while those who are older may have various reasons for neglecting the necessary treatment. For instance, they may dislike being seen as andquot;differentandquot; from their classmates or they may be too busy with sports and other activities to monitor their breathing. Thus, an asthma attack that could have been avoided, or at least reduced in severity, is allowed to emerge.

Parents must ensure that:

1.
Asthma can be scary and quite dangerous if it is not kept in control by the person afflicted with the disease. Asthma, if not kept in check, can lead to serious complications with breathing and may even result in death.

There are many different triggers that cause one to have an asthma attack. The majority of asthma attacks are caused by allergens, pet dander, dust, mold, cold or hot weather, moist air, cigarette smoke, exercise and sometimes even stress. Asthma is a condition that can be kept in control by taking medicines such as Singulair, Zyrtec, Advair, Proventil and Serevent.
Medicines don't always work though. Sometimes asthma is so difficult to control in a person's lungs that they need to receive allergy shots on a regular basis to keep the triggers from affecting their body. Patients with asthma should always remember one thing; always keep a rescue inhaler within reach. Rescue inhalers are different from the everyday inhalers that asthma patients use. A rescue inhaler is used only in an emergency. When an asthma sufferer feels their lungs constricting or has been coughing more often, they will take a puff from their rescue inhaler for relief.

Asthma causes a constriction of the lungs, inflammation of the lungs, and an added buildup of mucus within the lungs. All of this brings about shortness of breath, coughing, and wheezing. Many patients that suffer from asthma use nebulizer treatments more than once a week for severe cases. The nebulizer is a type of breathing machine that is filled with asthma medicine in liquid form. The liquid is then vaporized and the patient breathes inhales the vapor into their lungs. The vaporized medicine helps reopen the patient's airwaves and dries up the mucus.

Not all asthma patients suffer from it on a daily basis. A lot of asthma patients have exercise induced asthma. This is asthma that only affects those who are exercising. Exercise induced asthma doesn't always occur during the workout. Many asthma attacks related to exercise occur well after the workout is complete.

Many patients with asthma, but not all, also suffer from sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a condition that affects patients while attempting to sleep. Sleep apnea is when a patient has pauses or lapses in their breathing pattern while they are sleeping. This causes them to wake up startled and takes away from their daily rest needs. Sleep apnea is treated with the use of a CPAP. A CPAP is a breathing machine that aides respiratory ventilation. Asthma patients who also suffer from sleep apnea have found it easier to breath when the sleep apnea is diagnosed and treated. Sleep apnea can also be considered a trigger for asthma attacks.

Asthma, whether bronchial or nocturnal, is a dangerous and often deadly condition if it is not treated properly. When kept under control, asthma will not be a hindrance to the patient and the patient will be able to resume their normal activities of enjoy the outdoors and owning a pet. As soon as symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing and excessive coughing occur, asthma patients should use their rescue inhaler or consult their physician. It could mean the difference between life and death.<bio>Raleigh DentistImplant Dentistry in Raleigh</bio>

There are several types of asthma medication that can be used to help a patient that is struggling with asthma. Usually, a doctor will prescribe medications from the start of the episodes that seem to be that of asthma. If the medication helps to relive symptoms, the patient is considered to have asthma. In other cases, medications can be given after the diagnosis has been made that the patient has asthma.

The most common medications for the treatment of asthma are called bronchodilators. These medications are well known as simply inhalers. They are small sized inhaler units that offer a measured dose of the correct medication to the patient, allowing him to receive almost instant help from asthma symptoms. The medications within the asthma inhalers can range. Short acting medications such as salbutamol, terbutaline and bitolterol are some options here. There are older medications that some asthma suffers take. These are adrenergic agonists such as ephedrine tablets and epinephrine in an inhaled form. Ipratropium bromide is another medication that is provided to asthma suffers. This medication, unlike others, does not have as many potentially drastic health risks.

All of these medications have some type of side effect or can cause potentially life threatening conditions if the medications are used in the wrong way or over used for asthma treatment. Some will cause heart reactions such as high blood pressure and should be monitored closely.

To help a child or an adult to get relief from the asthma that they suffer from, a wide range of medications are available. Usually, these medications will be administered through an inhaler that will allow the medications to instantly enter the airways, opening them up and allowing the asthma symptoms of restriction to vanish. The right medication is something that can take a bit of working out to find the right one for the specific asthma reaction the individual has. <bio>Roger Thompson writes about asthma ,health related issues and jobs for http://www.idohealthcare.com </bio>

If you frequently experience asthma attacks, you are acquainted with the often unexpected onset of a tight feeling in your chest, coughing, and difficulty getting your breath when something triggers an attack. Knowing what type of asthma you have can help you control, or even eliminate your attacks.

There are three major types of asthma, allergic, idiopathic, and mixed asthma.

1. Allergic asthma is usually caused by airborne and seasonal allergens. Typically, there is a family history of allergies, but not necessarily asthma. Once you are exposed to the allergen, it becomes a trigger for an asthma attack. By avoiding the allergen, the asthma is controlled. Children with this kind of asthma generally outgrow it by the time they reach puberty.

2. Idiopathic or non-allergic asthma is not related to any specific allergen or substance. Common triggers can include the common cold, exercise, emotions, a respiratory tract infection or environmental pollution. Food additives such as sulphites might also trigger this type of asthma. Over time, asthma attacks can become more frequent and severe. It could also develop into a more serious respiratory condition, such as chronic bronchitis, or emphysema.

3. Mixed asthma is a combination of the above types. It is the most commonly diagnosed kind of asthma.

4. Exercise induced asthma is not considered to be one of the basic types of asthma. It is common in people who have one of the above varieties. If you experience exercise induced asthma, your airway is reactive to certain conditions, and exercise acts as a trigger. Sometimes, the first symptom you have is suffering from shortness of breath when you exercise. You might ignore it, thinking that it is because you are out of shape, or haven't worked out for a while. You will find that you cannot build up your endurance because you remain short of breath after minimal exercise. Aerobic exercise, running, playing soccer or hockey, is most likely to trigger this type of asthma attack.

No matter what asthma type you suffer from, it can take control over your life. It determines how well you sleep at night, how much energy you have during the day, and how much enjoyment you get out of life. Understanding your asthma type puts you back in control, and helps you prevent those episodes. <bio>Gerri Stone is an R.N. who enjoys sharing tips with others to help them stay healthy.Become Naturally Free From Asthma with a safe, fast-working and drug-free treatment proven in scientifically-controlled, clinical trials at a major hospital.
Asthma is a terrible condition. You can live much of your entire life and only experience the mildest of symptoms, or you can live each and every day with the fear that it will be your last. These are two opposite ends of the spectrum, but they are almost entirely true of most cases of severe breathing difficulties.

Asthma attacks can be life stopping event or even fatal. Knowing the danger signals can help you recognise an imminent attack, and allow for life-saving time to take the proper medications and/or precautions.

How to Recognize an Asthma Attack

Asthma can be a very cunning disease. Raspy breathing, troubled or heavy breathing, and light to violent coughing can sometimes be attributed to outside influences (i.e. smoke, or exercise). But in the case of an asthma sufferer, they might be the onset of the early stages of an extremely bad asthma attack.

Severe wheezing on its own doesn't necessarily mean an asthma attack is coming on, but when this wheezing is heard and felt while both breathing in and out (inhaling and exhaling), you might be in the first throes of an asthma attack. This raspy wheezing isn't just heard, it can be felt when you or your carer places a hand upon your chest.

If you have the experience of a persistent cough that is accompanied by another asthma attack symptom, you may be developing for an asthma attack. Bear in mind that while a hacking cough in itself isn't a symptom, coughing uncontrollably is an indication that you are having an asthma attack.

Mild or severe chest pains or feeling pressure on the chest is another asthma attack symptom that may be confused with another problem- that is a heart attack. If you feel you have excruciating pain and pressure in your chest, but do not feel that the pain is traveling out to your left shoulder and arm, it is probably an asthma attack. The pain is a symptom that your body is trying hard to draw in fresh air. It can also be caused by your bronchial tubes or lungs tightening up.

These are some of the foremost asthma attack symptoms that you need to be aware of. If you are experiencing any one or maybe more of these asthma attack symptoms you should; Stop whatever you are doing, try to administer your medication - usually an inhaler or other drugs as prescribed, also try to get some help, and above all try to relax. Taking your medicine is very important to your recovery and survival.

If you find that your medicine isn't helping or not working quickly enough to relieve the symptoms, or that you asthma attack symptoms are getting worse, have someone call the emergency services. Don't take chances as calling for some assistance could save your life.

Now that you are know what the three main asthma attack symptoms are, you now know what to look for, and forewarned is forearmed! <bio>Steven Lucas Hampshire, UK http://asthma.know-all.info </bio>
