When it comes to roofing, there are many options available. Among these options includes asphalt shingles. Asphalt shingles happen to be one of the most popular roofing options. They offer several benefits which include easy installation, affordability, versatility, and stylish good looks. Furthermore, asphalt shingles don't require any specialized accessories for the roof edges, wall terminations, and chimney or vent flashings.

Asphalt shingles traditionally come in 3-tab profiles. However, you will now see newer homes that have steeper roof pitches coming in laminate shingle profiles. A wide range of "architectural" shingles are available, whose profiles suggest the random shadows and patterns of slate, wood shingles, or ceramic tile. Furthermore, you should know that there are also two kinds of asphalt shingles on the market which include fiberglass shingles and organic-mat shingles. Both types are made with asphalt.

Quality and durability are important factors to consider with roofing materials. Asphalt singles come with a wind warranty. Quality shingles range from a 60 mph wind warranty to a 110 mph wind warranty. There are also several other options in between. Keep in mind, however, that warranties are a marketing device and are not a reliable predictor of lifespan.

To ensure quality, be sure to demand shingles that meet industry manufacturing standards. New shingle products are designed to resist damage from impact and high winds. Several manufacturers offer asphalt shingles designed to resist the effects of severe weather such as wind and impact from flying debris or hail. Make sure that you do your homework before selecting just any asphalt shingle for your roof.

It's easy to find a shingle that will suit your home because there is such a wide range of colors and patterns available to choose from. If you find yourself having a hard time selecting one that will best suit your home, consider asking a roofing specialist to help you out. They can usually direct you to homes that have examples of different shingles. Seeing the shingles on real homes gives you a much better idea of what to expect. <bio>For more information regarding asphalt shingle roofing and for a free cost estimate on shingle roofing visit http://www.RoofingKey.com </bio>

People often think of dream homes as those neat, crisp-looking houses with brick walls and triangular roofs. Such is a classic picture of what people imagine homes should be like. And this effect can be achieved with a home roofed with asphalt roofing shingles.

Asphalt shingles have become quite so popular when it comes to roofing options for homes. Their versatility and economic value have proven to be so attractive that they now cover as much as 80 percent of the market. Asphalt shingles are quite inexpensive and easy to install. They come in a great array of quality and style and are compatible with a wide range of roof pitches. They can be installed with different roof features, from roof edges to chimneys and wall terminations to vent flashings. Most of all, they are highly attractive and can really give a house that homey effect.

There are basically two types of asphalt shingles available in the market: the organic-mat shingles and the fiberglass shingles. Both of these are of course made of asphalt, but the difference lies on the reinforcing mat - the fiberglass variety of uses fiberglass while the organic variety uses a wood-derived mat made of cellulose fiber.

The organic type of mat requires two coatings of asphalt - a soft asphalt for saturation and then harder asphalt for protection. Meanwhile, the fiberglass type only needs one hard asphalt coating. People choose fiberglass for its light weight, thinness, ease of transporting and high fire rating.

There are those who still prefer the organic type because they are more durable and they are more flexible especially during cold weather. As such, fiberglass shingles are more popular in the central and southern parts of the country while organic shingles predominate the market in the northern parts as well as in Canada.

Buying Considerations

One of the major considerations when buying asphalt shingles is its service life. Warranties for asphalt shingles usually come as longs as 20 to 45 years. However, it is important to choose a particular brand not only for its warranty period as they do not really reflect the actual lifespan of shingles. There have been reports of asphalt shingles failing far earlier than the expiry date of their warranties, and a lot of homeowners have complained that the payouts did not really cover the replacement or repair costs as they should.

But this does not mean that one should completely shun asphalt shingles as a roofing choice with the right mindset in buying, you can still get quality shingles that last long.

When buying asphalt shingles what you need to look at is how much a particular brand meets industry standards, instead of the warranties. For fiberglass shingles, you should make sure that the product meets the standard known as ASTM D-3462, which means that the shingles can withstand tests such as nail withdrawal and tear-strength. In the past decade only a few products have passed this standards and you need to make sure that the one you buy are up to this standard. Shingles are inspected by Underwriters Laboratory and those who pass come with the UL logo and a certification.

Organic mat shingles, on the other hand, should meet the standard called ASTM D-225. Organic shingles usually have greater nail-pull and tear strength resistance compared to asphalt shingles and thus their standards are also higher. A good lose rule of thumb is that heavier organic shingles are sturdier than lighter ones. This may not always be true for fiberglass shingles, though.

As expected, shingles that fulfill the industry standards are more expensive than shingles of low quality. But aside from the quality of the shingles themselves, there is also the factor of installation when the roofing cost is being considered. You may opt to use cheaper nails, but it may be rather wasteful to install good quality shingles using low-grade nails.

Different Looks

What people usually consider when they want asphalt shingles is their appearance. Shingles comes in different styles and colors that can really bring out the beauty of a home. With the right kind of asphalt shingle you can achieve different looks for your dream home.

Asphalt roofing shingles are the roofing materials of choice for many homes and even commercial buildings. With its superb form and function there is no wonder why this has become quite popular when building dream houses. <bio>Ernest Jarquio is a successful Webmaster and publisher of http://www.flooring2roof.com/.
Roofing Shingles Installation Basics

When it comes time to replace the shingles on your home, you will need all the information you can get in regards roofing shingles installation basics. Therefore, why not start at the beginning, with the types of roofing shingles. There are four popular categories of shingles, wood shakes, slate, laminated, and asphalt shingles. To know which you should be choosing, you should understand how each one works and what features they have, all of which can help you determine which is right for you.

Asphalt roofing shingles are the most popular of all types. They are constructed with paper, glass, or fiber, with intense durability. These shingles are designed to last between twenty and thirty years.

Laminated roofing shingles are also becoming extremely popular. These shingles have a design that adds depth, color, and character to any room. Constructed with many different materials, such as asphalt, it creates a look of expensive roofing materials, without the large costs.

Slate roofing shingles also referred to as stone shingles are heavy but durable. Popular, but not overly used before it tends to break easy and can be extremely hard to work with. Many people enjoy the natural, handcrafted, and colorful look that slate shingles offer, as well as the durability, which allows the shingles to last for more than 100 years.

Wood roofing shingles, also known as shakes, are constructed with different treated woods such as pine, spruce, or cedar, and although cedar is the best type of wood used. While with first installation, the wood shingles are bright and lively colors, after the first year of use, it will dull quickly to the color of gray. Furthermore, splintering, warping, and shrinking are common complaints with wood roofing shingles, and generally have to be replaced within thirty years or less.

If you simply do not know how to or want to install your own roofing shingles, your best bet is to hire a professional roofer. When contacting roofers make sure that you opt for a company that is well established, carries a business license, and has permanent addresses and telephone numbers. Ask to view the companies insurance, bonding, training, and certificate information.

You will also want to choose a company that provides you with a full, written estimate of every aspect of the job; this includes time of completion, warranty, labor costs, and materials they intend to use. Before choosing a roofing shingles installer, make sure that you obtain a minimum of three estimates. This allows you to compare prices, as well as warranty, services, and ultimately work ethics. Obtain references, this is obviously important, you are entrusting the roofer with a valuable possession, your home. You want to be sure that they are qualified, trustworthy, hardworking, and professional. <bio>Daniel Roshard is a interior designer fascinated by garden architecture, he is currently studying interior design integration to public parks and gardens.
Roofing and shingles is a process whereby tiles are laid partially overlapping in an ascending manner up and along rooftops. This is done as much for style as it is for structural and architectural soundness.

Roofing and shingles is a particular occupation that specializes in roof repair and coverings. This job entails making sure that roofs are attractive as well as providing protection from the elements and increment weather. The particular conditions wherein these specialized tradesmen and women perform roofing and shingles are met with certain building and fire codes and architectural standards of the countries, states, cities, or provinces in which the job is done. Further, learning roofing and shingles, like the trade work of electricians and plumbers, requires particular knowledge and skills that must be conducted and completed correctly, otherwise the roofs could pose a hazard to those living in the house. Patching up holes and cracked wood before appropriately covering the roof securely with shingle tiles is one example of this.

Materials used for roofing and shingles vary, but everything used is sturdy and safe architecturally and health-wise. Shingles used to be made of wood, but due to growing fire and structural hazard concerns, this material is rarely or seldom considered; instead, bitumen-soaked paper covered with aggregate (asphalt) or ceramic shingles are now used for their safer and more visually appealing nature.

Roofing and shingles also used standard appending. Shingles are tacked or nailed on securely, but only where the shingle tile meets the roof; shingle tiles are never tacked or nailed at the overlap. Such a procedure would be deemed less secure (as it is more difficult to nail through multiple asphalt shingle tiles), and the appearance looks awkward. For ceramic (and occasionally with the asphalt), a heavy-bonding tar or paste is sometimes used to attach the tiles to the roof. The shingle tiles are laid in a row along the bottom edge of the roof, and each ascending row, as said, overlaps the one beneath it by about half a length of the tile. The top edge of the roof is then capped.

Roofing slates, also call "slate shingles," are also used in roofing and shingles, and are applied the same way. Because of the heavy consistency of slate, it's unlikely that nails or tacks are used; instead, paste or tar seems the better choice for a bonding method.

Roofing and shingles is a meticulous and time-consuming process that must be carefully rendered for a roof to acquire that architectural appeal. Not only should know-how be necessary, but careful movement and stepping are a definite requirement as well. <bio>Find more roofing resources and other great topics at http://www.info-checkpoint.info </bio>

Metal roofing has been used in commercial and residential buildings for a long time now. Over the years, metal roofing designs, structures, and colors have become a lot better and more attractive. Also, metal roofing is simply more durable compared to all other roofing system options that are present today. In terms of performance, that of the metal roof is definitely at par with all the others, if not better. It is in the actual cost of metal roofing where the debate lies.

Generally speaking, metal roofs are lightweight, elegant, durable and colorful. If you choose this material for your home, then you are in for a big treat in terms of longevity, sophistication, and strength. If these elements are important to you, then metal roofs should easily be your preference. But when confronted about its price though, it can become a setback for you.

Metal Roofing Cost

There are a lot of factors to consider. But generally, the cost of metal roofing is computed per square foot. Professional installers usually calculate the total area plus the roof pitch that users require, when applicable. For example, a total roof area of 6,500 sq ft, having a moderate roof pitch of 8 inches rise for every 12 inches run costs somewhere around $4.50 per square foot.

That amount already includes installation, labor, and all the materials needed to put up the whole system. The total contract value of that particular job would then be around $29,250. That means you are to spend somewhere around thirty thousand dollars for your house's roof alone. That amount is high, when compared to a regular asphalt shingle roof system that most American home sports.

Asphalt Shingles Cost

Taking the same project, but this time using regular asphalt shingles which only costs about $1.50 for every square foot, the total roof cost would be $9,750. And when that is compared to the cost of metal roofing, as much as $19,500 can be saved. But it's nice to look at the bigger picture before concluding that the good old asphalt shingle is your better option for a case like this.

The average lifespan of a metal roof system is 50 years, and that's with very little maintenance. Research has it though, that metal roofs can last to as much as 100 years if a good maintenance job is being carried out on it. On the other hand, the lifespan of an average asphalt shingle is only 10 years, and for it to last that long, minimal maintenance should be performed. Keep in mind that an asphalt shingle requires a great deal of a maintenance job for it to reach its maximum lifespan of 20 years.

Assuming you installed asphalt shingles for $9,750, you are bound to renovate after 10 years or so. And so you'll have to spend another $9,750 after that period of time, not to mention the additional charges of $1,950 required for tearing off the existing shingles in your roof in order to lay the new ones. Ten years hence, you'll be shedding out around $11,700 for renovation.

Looking At The Long Term

Now we need to match the cost of asphalt installation and renovation with the cost of metal roofing. In a span of 50 years, you would have changed your asphalt roofing for as much as 5 times. So that's an overall total of $68,250. You are now to compare that with the $29,250 that you have spent for on a metal roofing system. You see after 50 years, you are bound to save twice as much on metal roofing than the low-cost asphalt shingle roofing, which requires the lowest cash outlay initially.

This only goes to show that the cost of metal roofing redeems itself in the long run. If you are a homeowner who values permanence and endurance in constructing your house, then it is safe to say that metal roofing is actually the option with the lower cost for you. While you might need bigger cash outlay with this type of roofing system, it certainly is worth it in the years ahead. <bio>Ernest Jarquio is a successful Webmaster and publisher of http://www.flooring2roof.com/.
Asphalt paving refers to the laying out of asphalt concrete in thin, smooth layers on the Portland concrete of old roadways, driveways, and airport fields. The process of asphalt paving is for the purpose of correcting, improving, and/or protecting damaged or worn concrete surfaces, much like applying a "band-aid" to a sore.

Asphalt paving uses asphalt concrete, which is essentially the mixture of asphalt with a binder (or adhesive) and mineral aggregates to ensure solidity and strength. Asphalt concrete can be prepared in a number of different ways:

Hot Mix Asphalt Concrete (HMAC): Asphalt is heated to reduce stickiness and moisture in the mineral aggregates.

** Think: coagulating blood through heat to seal the wound.

Warm Mix Asphalt Concrete (WMA or WAM): Zeolites, waxes, or asphalt emulsions are added to allow lower laying that results in less fossil-fuel consumption.

** Think: applying sunscreen lotion to keep out the bad elements.

Cold Mix Asphalt Concrete: emulsifying water and soap into the asphalt concrete. This reduces stickiness and makes the material easier to manipulate and compact.

** Think: adding cool water to clay to easily mold works of art.

Cut-back Asphalt Concrete: binder is dissolved in kerosene or other forms of lighter petroleum. This reduces stickiness and makes the material easier to manipulate and compact.

** Think: pouring water into paint to make it more easily spreadable.

Asphalt paving, just like anything else, has its good points and its bad points, depending on how and where it's used.

Pros of Asphalt Paving:

No cracking in winter Easy snow removal Coloring and pattern-stamping, which is harder with concrete Can be re-laid, whereas concrete cannot Less expensive than concrete, which explains why asphalt concrete is usually used as the great fixer-upper.

Cons of Asphalt Paving:

The main concern with asphalt paving is that it requires constant resealing for long-lasting effectiveness, so maintenance is strongly advised and expected.

In the end, asphalt paving is more economical and provides wider flexibility in use than concrete. This resolution to surface wear-and-tear provides greater allowances and is therefore preferable in the long-run. <bio>Find more Asphalt resources at http://www.Asphalt-Paving.info, and other great topics here http://www.information-checkstop.info. </bio>

The problem is, they usually have to be repeated every six to 18 months to maintain cleanliness.

Chlorine Solution Washes: Chlorine bleach solution application requires a lot less rinsing than the two other methods, thereby allowing a cleaning procedure of shorter duration. One good consequence of a quicker process is less wear and tear for the roof. However, chlorine can be toxic to some people and plants, so care should be exercised to protect employees or residents, as well as the property itself, from spray runoffs. Asphalt shingle roofs are particularly well adapted to this type of cleaning.

Sodium Hydroxide-based Cleaning: Sodium hydroxide-based cleaners are very effective degreasers, but they require a lot more rinsing than chlorine solutions. As a result, using this type of cleaning agent can be time-consuming and carries with it greater risk for causing damage to the roof. And, while only 100 psi of force is needed to rinse away a sodium hydroxide-based compound on an asphalt shingle roof, some amount of asphalt granule loss is to be expected still. Even if advertisements would have us believe otherwise, sodium hydroxide can be toxic too, and should be kept from coming into contact with persons and property, and especially plants in the surrounding landscape. It is also caustic, so high levels of this compound may cause irreversible damage to roofs, especially those made of asphalt shingles.

Pressure Washing: Pressure washing is an option only for roofs made either of concrete, metal or barrel tiles. One of the distinct advantages of this method is that it does not require the use of chemicals, which does away with some costs, and which makes it more environment-friendly. This procedure, however, requires more time to perform and may exert more strain than some roofs can handle. Another downside is that it can wash away the thin layer of coloring with which some roof tiles are coated. The natural gray color of the concrete roof begins to show through, requiring the additional task of painting or staining. <bio>http://www.pressurewashingking.com </bio>

What is Shingles - Herpes Zoster: Shingles (known also as Herpes Zoster) is a very sore, rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. It affects a limited area of the body and skin. Not only can it be very painful but it can also make you feel weak, tired and many even cause severe depression.

What causes Shingles - Herpes Zoster: You can only get shingles if you have previously had chickenpox. After having chickenpox the virus lies dormant in the nerves, and shingles occurs when it is revitalised in one particular nerve to the skin, this explains the way it affects a certain band or area of the skin. Many times the outbreak is caused by a decrease in your body's natural resistance or a weakness to the immune system. Most people who get shingles are more than 49 years old.

Shingles - Herpes Zoster - Symptoms: Usualy the first symptom of shingles is often over-sensitivity or a burning sensation on the skin in the affected area. After a few days, a rash develops. It usually appears as a band or path, following the route of a nerve under the skin. At first, the rash consists of small red spots and reddened skin in the same area. The spots then turn into small blisters, which dry up after a few days, and gradually form scabs. Shingles is often a very painful condition, since it affects the nerves, the pain may continue after the rash has cleared, sometimes lingering for months or years.

Shingles - Herpes Zoster - Treatment: Shingles is most often treated with acyclovir, famciclovir, or valacyclovir (also named: Valtrex). Your doctor will decide which of these medicines might work the best for you. Most of the medications work better if they are started within the first couple of days after you get the shingles rash. Often a doctor will also prescribe a steroid medicine to reduce the pain and swelling. If you get Shingles of the eye it is often treated with antiviral medicines and steroids.

Shingles - Herpes Zoster - Prevention: There is a study under way for a vaccine to prevent shingles, called the 'Shingles Prevention Study'. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is asking for volunteers for the study at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
In the past ten years recent studies and research with alternative treatments for shingles has shown it is possible to recover in less than one week and to reduce outbreaks of lesions and pain in three days.

Shingles is a serious health condition and it is important to follow your doctor's recommendations. Traditionally, most doctors prescribe painkillers for the temporary symptomatic relief of the pain and an antiviral drug to suppress the virus. This form of treatment with drugs reduces the severity and frequency of outbreaks but does not eliminate it from the body. This course of treatment can take six weeks or more and does very little for the patient. The pain associated with shingles can continue long after the initial outbreak.

Some doctors prescribe steroids or itch-relieving creams that contains steroids. Recent studies question the effectiveness of steroids in relieving shingles and suggest avoiding any treatment with steroids. Monitoring by your doctor is recommended, if steroids have been prescribed. It is best to find alternative treatments with your doctor and to seek out natural remedies.

The virus herpes zoster causes shingles and is the same virus that causes chicken pox. Shingles is an infection of the central nervous system and may affect the elderly, those with a compromised immune system, anyone under severe stress or those who have been exposed to the chickenpox virus again. Symptoms may include burning, itching, or pain in one part of the body. A few days later, blisters and a rash appear. The infection may run along a nerve path and look like a branch of a tree. Shingles usually appear on the trunk area and the chest but can also be found on the face. Shingles can cause blindness if it affects the eyes. If an outbreak occurs on the face the patient should get immediate medical care.

Natural Remedies For Shingles

A good starting point for treating shingles is a diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables. A good diet and reducing daily stress will help boost your immune system

A simple remedy for lesions is to apply a cool or cold wet washcloth or towel to the affected area. A wet towel can be put into the freezer for a while after wetting it to make it colder.

Eliminate sugar from your diet and add these important nutrients to your daily diet - vitamin E, vitamin B12 and vitamin C.

* Vitamin C is suggested with an initial diagnosis of shingles. You may start with 1,000 mg. (+)

* Vitamin E taken daily before meals may reduce the pain of shingles (Study published in the Archives of Dermatology) (+)

* Vitamin B12 injections may reduce the pain of shingles (Study published in the Journal Geriatrics) (+)

(+) It is recommended that you consult with your doctor before starting any vitamin program.

* E capsules can be squeezed directly onto lesions.

* Avoid heat as well as tight clothes and itchy fabrics like wool.

* Calamine lotion may relieve the pain and help dry the lesions.

Shingles is a serious illness and before starting any treatment program you should consult with your doctor. Shingles is the same virus as chicken pox. You cannot catch shingles from someone else unless you've never had chicken pox. If you have shingles you should use caution being around pregnant women who have not had chicken pox - you could infect both the woman and her unborn baby.

Copyright © 2006 Wayne McDonald. It's a condition in which painful blisters develop and show up on the skin. The root cause is the same virus that results in chicken pox. This virus is the "varicella zoster virus" or VZV. If you've had chicken pox as a child, then you are at a higher risk for developing shingles later in life.

This is because when a child contracts the chicken pox, he or she is left with a trace amount of varicella zoster virus. This virus lingers in the body for years until the immune system is ravaged by an autoimmune disorder, an immune deficiency, or the basic effects of aging. At that point, there is a stronger likelihood that VZV will return as shingles.

To find out more about the Shingles disorder, including how to identify the symptoms of the disease and prevent its spread, read on.

Shingles Symptoms and Signs

Common symptoms associated with Shingles includes a fever that generally lasts about four to five days. This may be accompanied by a headache. Patients will also experience a marked decline in their energy levels and possible digestive problems. Additionally, chills can accompany the aches and pains. Other than the itching and the rash and blisters that will eventually develop, the symptoms are very similar to the flu.

Eventually, the patient will develop small and painful blisters on the skin. These will usually extend from the spine to the chest and are the most common and visible symptom of the malaise.

Why It's Important to Treat Shingles

Shingles and the VZV can directly affect the nervous system leading to issues and other medical problems throughout the body. It's critical to seek treatment swiftly before the disease progresses.

People at Risk for Developing Shingles

The people who have the highest risk levels for developing Shingles are those who had chicken pox as children. Primarily, the disease affects those over the age of 50 and is especially prevalent in persons suffering from any other condition that damages the immune system (like AIDS or cancer). Also, it can impact anyone taking immunosuppressive drugs.

Tips for Living With and Treating Shingles

Shingles are often contagious, so precautions should be taken to protect family members and others in close contact with the patient. When sores or blisters are present, they should be covered at all times, and bedding and clothing should be washed separately.

Another tip to alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with Shingles disease is to avoid exposure to direct sunlight and try to stay in a cool, dry room as much as possible. Also, avoid scratching the rash. Finally, the best thing you can do is to strictly follow the regimen assigned to you by your doctor.

Shingles is not a disease to take lightly.
An old fashioned material for roofs that has been around for a long time is gaining in modern popularity. Many people are realizing the benefits and advantages of metal roofs. Harsh weather in certain areas, and the new variety in types of metal roofs have led to this new popularity.

Metal roofs are much more durable than asphalt shingles and other types of roofing materials. They hold up better against heavy rain and snow, hail, heat and even hurricane force winds. Another benefit is its fire resistant quality. A home is much better protected from both natural and man made disasters when it has a metal roof.

Environmental factors are also leading to new found popularity of metal roofs. Metal roofs reflect the heat of the sun better than traditional materials, keeping your house cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Energy costs can be as much as 20% lower with metal roofs because of this thermal reflectivity.

Most metal roofs have a system that interlocks the sheets on all four sides, instead of just overlaying like shingles or tiles. This makes metal roofs much stronger and more durable.

The paint and other coatings used on modern metal roofs is also a different kind. The coatings are metallic and polymer, making the roofs corrosion resistant. The polymer coatings will look faded due to exposure, but a good rinse with water will restore their looks. Because of these new materials, modern metal roofs require little to no maintenance.

In addition to weather and fire resistance, energy efficiency and durability are compelling reasons for choosing a metal roof. The energy saving qualities of metal roofs have made them very much in demand and have therefore increased the resale value of the homes that have them. With energy costs soaring, people recognize this as a very valuable quality. IN addition, metal roofs last 40 to 50 years, unlike shingles or tiles, which traditionally last about 25 years.

The modern versions of the metal roof have a much larger variety of styles and colors than other roofing materials. Since they are painted, the choice of colors is almost limitless, limited only by your imagination. The polymer paints used allow an infinite variety of color to make your home unique.

In addition to these advantages, metal roofs are easier to install than shingles or tiles. It can be placed directly over the old roof, keeping costs down by avoiding the demolition and cart away costs of tearing off of the old roof.

It is no wonder that metal roofs are becoming more popular. Low maintenance, incredibly long lasting, energy efficient, attractive and available in many styles and colors are qualities that are ideal in a roof. <bio>Focusing on informating about plastering drywall, Eric Slarkowski writes articles first and foremost for http://www.insidewoodworking.com .
Shingles is a skin rash that is caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV), the very same virus that causes chickenpox. Once a person gets over the initial outbreak of chickenpox, this virus lives in the nervous system, never fully leaving the body. When certain situations, such as stress, or the onset of immunodeficiency disorders develop, the virus can reactivate, causing shingles. More commonly however, the actual cause for the reactivation of the virus is never found. Anyone who has ever had chickenpox is at risk or developing shingles.

What are the symptoms of Shingles?

The initial onset of shingles can display as an extreme sensitivity or burning sensation on the skin in the affected area. It can include itching, tingling, burning, constant aching, or deep, shooting pain. Within a few days, a rash develops. It will usually present itself as a band that follows the route of a nerve under the skin. The Shingles rash itself looks like small red spots and reddened skin in the same area that eventually turn into small blisters. The blisters dry up after a few days, forming scabs that leave a small pockmark in the skin when they fall off.
Shingles is considered to be an intensely painful condition because the virus affects the nerves. The pain may even linger and continue long after the rash has cleared up. This pain could go on for weeks, months or even years. This is called post-herpetic neuralgia and is more likely to occur in older people and those who had a severe outbreak from the rash.

What causes Shingles?

Although the reasons are not fully understood, any weakening of the body's immune system can cause the Varicella zoster virus to "reawaken" and appear in adulthood as shingles. Conditions that may weaken the systems include aging, HIV/AIDS, colds, cancer, organ transplants, long term courses of steroids, various medical treatments like chemotherapy or radiation therapy, stress or excessive alcohol intake.

It is important to note that shingles is not a new infection; it is a second outbreak of the chicken pox virus. For whatever reasons, the herpes zoster virus wakes up from the dormant state and grows. Once active, the germs travel along the nerve paths to the skin, and the result is the aching rash of shingles.

Will Painwave X4000 Help with Shingles?

Definitely! The Painwave X4000 is revolutionary, non-invasive, drug-free method of pain relief for the treatment of shingles. What is most amazing about the device is that the Painwave X4000 works in concert with the body's own bioelectromagnetic ecosystem. The astounding Painwave X4000 has no side effects, and is utilized by moving the unit gently over the surface of the skin in a small circular motion. After a short period of time, the Painwave X4000 stimulates improved circulation, cell activity and lymphatic movements, all of which are beneficial in the relief of pain and other discomforts.
Metal roofing for residential homes must be able to provide the home owners the security they have been searching for in their household. To elaborate, metal roofing must protect the family from fire, rot, insects and water. Metal roofing has become popular over the years simply because it has delivered the goods and can be easily installed too.

What is Residential Metal Roofing?

The demand for metal roofing increased over the past few decade because it has proven to be a better alternative to its predecessor, the traditional shingles. Residential metal roofing comes with many advantages and is also available in various styles and colors which allow the home owner to go with what he or she prefers.

Many people ask, "Why metal roofing?" Here are some answers:

Durability and Longevity

Residential metal roofing is durable and stronger when compared to shingle roofing made from asphalts. Most companies selling this product give their clients a 30 year warranty, simply because they know that the roofing will last that long. Metal roofing is completely durable that it is not only used in residential areas, it is also the number one choice for government, school and business enterprises.

Also, residential metal roofing is the most superior composition when it comes to battling all kinds of weather conditions, specifically sun exposure, hail and wind. Quite different to shingles, residential metal roofing does not deteriorate as easily when exposed under the sun. Also, high winds often destroy composite roof but residential metal roofing has enough structure support that can handle the speed of the wind.

Energy Efficiency

Metal roofs containing light colors reflect away the UV rays from the sun. This keeps the house cool. Studies conducted show that a residential metal roof can cool the house 25% more than the other roof materials.

Therefore, residential metal roof make the most out of this capability by incorporating the "Cool Chemistry" paint which allows the roof to keep the house cooler even when it has been coated.

Environmentally-Friendly

According to studies conducted by the National Association of Homebuilders, over 20 billion pounds of shingles made from asphalt are dumped into American landfills year after year. Even though the content has been recycled and turned into steel and metal roofing, it remains to be a complete waste of shingles. Also, because of the low composition, residential metal roofing prove to be environment friendly and also cost-efficient for that matter.

Residential Metal Roofing is a Superior Product

Because of the growing demand for metal roofing, residential homes are provided with high quality products. Most residential metal roofing have 26 gauge steel and have panels that are 33% thicker than the average. That being said, this has advantages such as the following:

1. Handling. Because of the added strength, residential metal roofing are least likely to be damaged during the handling as well as the transporting process.

2. Resistance. Because it has been rated to be a Grade 1 panel, residential metal roofing can resist any kind of weather, specifically hail. It has already proven its durability and strength as confirmed by the 35% discount Texas homeowners insurance provide to the material.

3. Strength. Because of the thick gauge, residential metal roofing panels are stronger and therefore less susceptible to the oil canning or the waviness of the material. It also lets the roof to be installed with relatively few screws, which gives off a clean look and also decreases the difficulty and costs of installation. <bio>Ernest Jarquio is a successful Webmaster and publisher of http://www.flooring2roof.com/.
When one is forced to think about the cost of various replacements around the home, frequently one of the things that need to be replaced is the roof. Unfortunately, the cost of replacing one's roof is among some of the most expensive home repair jobs to be done.

On the other hand, there are lots of variables when it comes to repairing or replacing your roof and whether you'll actually need a professional roofing company to get the job done. If you're experiencing multiple leaks in your house from the roof in your home then it may be a good idea to actually call a professional home repair company for a free service quote. Here are some things that one may want to think about, though, when it comes to repairing the roof of a house.

What Goes Into Roof Repair Jobs: First, one should realize that a roofing company or handyman is not just throwing a certain price in the air when asked about replacement or repair costs for a roof, but there are several things included in that quote. Many times a home repair or construction company will include several things when giving out quotes for roof replacements: the material of the roof shingles, how many shingles need to be replaced, a roof cement sealer product, any debris or removal of old shingles that need to be gotten rid of, and of course the labor cost.

For many roofing and home repair companies, they'll have fixed prices for a certain amount of shingles that need to be replaced. For example, if only one or two shingles need to be replaced then they may only charge $150. On the other hand, a small roof replacement job like that can usually be done much cheaper when completed on your own. The only thing that an individual needs to pay for when repairing a couple shingles on the roof is the actual shingles themselves and any sealer that's used.

Leaky Roofing Repair Costs: One issue that often needs to be assessed is whether or not the roof has any leaks in it. A leak in the roof is actually one of the main reasons why many people decide to contact a home repair or construction company in the first place to repair or replace the roof.

However, in order to understand what all goes into repairing a leaky roof, one must first understand what a leaky roof is. A leaky roof on a house usually results from damage or pieces of faulty flashing, and these are pieces of vinyl or metal situated between the roofing shingles and the rest of the house or chimney. When the flashing is damaged or manages to get pulled up then the homeowner experiences leaks in his or her roof.

It is this damage to the flashing material on the roof that is the most expensive, however. Replacing the metal or vinyl flashing for a roof repair job usually costs between $350 and $500. When it comes to completing a roofing job such as this, it is usually best to let an actual construction or home repair company handle the roof repair so that one can be sure that no mistakes are made.

As you can see, the costs of roofing associated with repairs of the roof that are made are typically expensive. If it's not possible that the homeowner can fix the problem by himself, then a construction or roofing company should definitely be contacted. Even though it will be expensive, hiring a roofing company can be just as effective as doing the work yourself, especially if you don't have enough time to complete the job.<bio>You should compare roof cost and metal roof cost through several contractors before making a final decision.</bio>

Cement is mostly known to be made out of asphalt, which stands for secure in the ancient Greek language.

Cement is a mixture of several different types of materials. This includes sand, limestone and asphalt. Asphalt and cement were found to be used beginning in 625 BC in Babylon as well as in Greece. The idea of this secure foundation was lost for centuries, and began to be experimented with beginning in the 1500's. After much exploration, European's found that this type of material was being used in Venezuela. They took the idea and began to use cement for re-caulking ships.

Road building using cement became popular in America in the middle of the 1800's. This was part of the revolution that began with the industrial age. Cement was first taken from natural resources, such as the lakes that were in Trinidad. However, by the beginning of the 1900's, the mixture for roads and pavement began to be a mixture of several different types of rocks.

Cement mixers first became popular in the 1920's, when automobiles started to become popular. Mixers were first seen as trays that were heated over coal fires. Aggregate was dried in this tray, than asphalt would be poured on top of it. This mix was then stirred by hand. Drums were soon after invented to be used, and soon wheels were added in order to make it easier for the building of roadways and sidewalks. These were known as floating screeds and were popular until the 1960s.

By the 1970s, these types of construction were becoming a concern with the environment. This caused even better technology to be produced in relation to cement mixers. The mixtures that are being used now have an increased improvement with mixture, allowing for less noise, skid resistance, and weather resistance.

Because of the ability to use the cement mixer in relation to the types of roads and sidewalks that are being built, it is allowing for greater roadways and sidewalks. It has also caused the major modes of transportation to be supported by this type of rock. More than ninety-four percent of the ground that is used for transportation is made out of cement. The cement mixer plays an important role in making sure that this secure surface is made. <bio>http://cementconcretemixers.com Everything you need to know about cement concrete mixers. </bio>

Postherpetic neuralgia is an extremely painful medical condition that affects the nerve fibers and skin. It is most often a complication of shingles, a second outbreak of the varicella-zoster virus, otherwise known as chickenpox. Called the adult chicken pox, the shingles can come on suddenly after the virus has lain dormant for many years. It is also wholly possible for postherpetic neuralgia to re-start some months after the episode of shingles have passed.

What are the symptoms of Postherpetic Neuralgia?

Postherpetic neuralgia pain can be relatively short or linger on for many years after the shingles event. Most often, the symptoms of postherpetic neuralgia occur around the area of your skin where the shingles outbreak first occurred. These symptoms can include burning, sharp and jabbing throbbing sensations in the face, deep and aching pain, hypersensitivity to touch and temperature change, Itching, numbness and severe, debilitating headaches. In rare cases, you might also experience muscle weakness or paralysis if the nerves involved also control muscle movement.
The good news is, once postherpetic neuralgia resolves it rarely returns.

What causes Postherpetic Neuralgia?

After an initial infection of chickenpox, some of the virus can remain in your body. Years later, the virus may reactivate, causing the adult version of the disease, called "the shingles." The virus then travels along sensitive nerve fibers, damaging them and causing extreme pain. Some pain can also be experienced when the damaged nerves make their attempt at repair and re-growth. Once the virus reaches your skin, it can produce a rash and/or painful blisters. A case of shingles (herpes zoster) usually heals within a month, however, an unfortunate few will continue to feel pain long after the rash and blisters heal. This pain is called postherpetic neuralgia. Pain associated with postherpetic neuralgia can impede sleep, eating, and daily exercise and can greatly affects an individual's quality of life. There are a variety of treatments that can be utilized in an effort to treat postherpetic neuralgia, but these treatments may not be enough to fully alleviate the excruciating pain often associated with the disorder.

Luckily, not everyone who has suffered from shingles develops postherpetic neuralgia.

Will Painwave X4000 Help with Postherpetic Neuralgia?

Yes! Painwave X4000 is a non-invasive, drug-free method of relief that can successfully treat the pain associated with postherpetic neuralgia. Since most treatments and medications won't reduce the pain of postherpetic neuralgia, it may be best to explore new technology like Painwave X4000, which works in concert with the body's own bioelectromagnetic ecosystem. Painwave X4000 also has no side effects, and is very easy to use. Simply move the unit gently over the surface of the skin in a small circular motion to eliminate pain. After a short period of time, the Painwave X4000 can improve circulation, cell activity and lymphatic movements. This can be extremely beneficial in the relief of pain and other discomforts. In many cases, this stimulation will greatly reduce or eliminate pain permanently.

Note: The contents of this article cannot be used to diagnose any disease.
How do I know if I need a new roof?

The roof should always be checked. You should keep tabs of its state. The following are signs that you may need a new roof.

Your roof is between twenty and twenty five years old. The shingles are excessively cracking, curling, or they are blistering. There are many shingles that are missing and/are torn or damaged. The roof is leaking in many places.

* How much does a new roof cost?

There is no definitive answer as to how much a new roof will cost. There are a variety of considerations needed before an estimate can be given. From that information, a price quotation or an estimate could be done.

Some of the considerations are:

Size of roof Materials to be used Location of house (this is needed to determine which materials would be best for that area's weather) Is it for a new house or a re roofing State costs and taxes Type of home

After that, you can have several contractors bid on the project to get the best price.

* When re-roofing, should I peel off old layers or simply add a new layer of shingles?

It is recommended that you add a new layer of shingles to your roof. Scrapping the old layers will just consume more time and energy, and at the same time by peeling off, the thickness of the shingles are decreasing, leading to possible leakages in the future. By adding new layers of shingles onto your roof, it protects the inner part of the roof and provides you relief against further leakages. Obviously, it would be a lot cheaper.

* What kinds of questions should I ask a roofing contractor?

Getting a roof contractor to do your roof needs a little certainty and guarantee. You can ask the following questions to the contractor to erase doubts regarding his/her services:

• Ask your roofing contractor questions with regards to their standing in their field of expertise. It will give you a hint whether they are really offering quality service to their clients.

• Ask questions with regards to their operation. This includes whether they have necessary permits and licenses to operate such business, and if they are carrying insurance in case there are unforeseen incidents that may happen during the construction.

• And lastly, ask questions with regards to the actual roofing constructions and the post-construction services and warranty. Inquire if they can explain to you in layman's terms how they will construct your roofing, what materials are going to be used, and what services and warranties they offer in case leakages or damages happened to your roof within a time period after construction.

* What kinds of questions should I ask references of a roofing contractor?

Sometimes, you need referrals from people who know the roofing contractor's work you are considering, especially when you are unfamiliar with that type of business. As the roofing contractor for references, especially from customers who have had work done by him. Questions like the following can be asked of your references of a roofing contractor:

• Initially, ask questions with regards to their relationship with the contractor. Maybe the contractor is a friend or a relative of your reference. That will give you an idea how well that reference knows the contractor.

• You can inquire if they have acquired the services of the roofing contractor. Ask them if they have personally witnessed the construction of their roof, and at the same time letting your reference talk about the quality of service.

• Lastly, ask queries on the reliability of their service, if it withstands the different outside elements surrounding the roof. In this way, you will have no doubt of the integrity of the contractor because the reference himself will tell all. <bio>Rae Fakner is a regular contributor to roofing- and construction-related websites such as http://www.Roofing-Tips.com </bio>

Many people are going for metal roofs, as new materials for roofing are available. It has been seen that the metal roofs are having more advantages than any other kind of roofs so these roofs are having more popularity. Metal roofing is more popular due to the make as well as the weather differences.

Metal roofing is becoming more and more popular in the houses as in comparison to the asphalt shingles or the other kinds of tiles and shingles these are more durable. The metal roofs can withstand tough weather that includes hurricane force winds, heavy snow, wind-driven rains, extreme heat and hail. Many people choose metal roofs as it can also withstand fire that can occur due to man-made fire or due to the heat of the sun.

To make it more durable metal roofs have various kinds of layer of paint and also other kinds of resistant stuff. Polymer as well as metallic coating is one such coating layer. In comparison to other metals it makes them extra corrosion resistant. While they are painted, they also use high-performance polymers. The color will start fading due to the airborne contamination after sometime but due to the polymer's usage you have to spray down the roof using a garden hose so that it looks new again.

Metal roofing adds value to each home; this is one more reason that people are moving towards it. Metal roofs are expected to continue for forty-fifty years and normally it has a warranty that is also expected to last such long. In addition to the value of the house it is also expected that metal roof does not need to be replaced in a lifetime.

In comparison to other kinds of roofing metal roofs are known to have extra varieties of colors and styles and so many people are using it. It is not only that the metal roofing is extra weather resistant rather than other houses but is undoubtedly a low-maintenance kind of roofing that lasts longer and also adds color as well as style to your home, which otherwise would not have been available.
PHN is the onset pain from Shingles. In many cases, the aftermath pain of Postherpetic Neuralgia or PHN is worse than the shingles disease. PHN affects the nerve fibers in the skin. It is the most common complication of shingles and results from damage to nerve fibers. The rash and pain from shingles usually lasts about a month. But people with PHN may have pain from that will last for months, and sometimes years, after the shingles rash has healed. This article explores the various pain relief treatments for Post-Herpetic Neuralgia (PHN).

People who continue to feel pain long after the rash and blisters heal are experiencing a pain called postherpetic neuralgia which basically is damage to their nerve fibers caused by a reactivation of the varicella zoster virus. Nerve fibers essentially send messages from the skin to the brain. Damaged Nerve fibers due to shingles are not able to send messages to the spinal cord as they normally do and it is believed that the body may perceive these "mixed messages" as pain signals.

Age and PHN are related. Older people are more susceptible to PHN. PHN usually does not develop in people under age 50. Over 40% of patients with shingles age 60 or older develop PHN. After the shingles rash has healed, 75% of people over age 70 have pain at 1 month, and 50% still have pain after 1 year.

Treatments for postherpetic neuralgia depends on the type of phn pain you experience. Generally for~post herpetic neuralgia these include:

> Antidepressants

> Drugs that inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin

> Certain anticonvulsants

> Injected steroids

> Painkillers

> Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)

> Spinal cord or peripheral nerve stimulation.

> Lidocaine skin patches

There are even some alternate remedies that have been tried by those suffering from PHN such as hypnosis, acupuncture, diluted apple cider vinegar, colustrum and vitamin B5.

Two highly effective alternative medicine treatments for PHN pain are Menastil and EZ Pain Relief. Both are non-narcotic, non-addictive topical solutions that effectively penetrate the skin to reach the inflamed area to cause the nerve ends to relax and allow the blood and oxygen to flow back into the painful area to effectively cutoff the pain signal to the spinal cord and therefore to the brain. You still have the PHN condition, since these products are not cures, but you will not feel substantially less pain with the use of either of these products.

Multiple pain relief treatment regimens as notated above for postherpetic neuralgia generally brings complete pain relief. But most people still experience some pain no matter what the treatment, and a few don't get any relief at all. Although some people will live with postherpetic neuralgia the rest of their lives, most people can expect the condition to gradually disappear during the first three months. For about 10 percent to 20 percent of people with postherpetic neuralgia, the pain may persist for a year or more.

The key to solving PHN pain is to experiment with a number of regimens to find which treatments work for you.
What is Shingles?

Shingles or Herpes zoster is a condition where a crop of blisters caused by the varicella zoster virus form a band across one side of the chest, abdomen or face.

What is the cause of shingles?

The same virus that causes chicken pox causes shingles. The chickenpox virus remains in a dormant state in certain nerve cells of the body from months to many years, and then reactivates, causing shingles.

This infection is due to a temporary decrease in the body's resistance, allowing the virus to start multiplying and to move along nerve fibres towards the skin.

Who are the People at risk of getting Shingles?

About 1 in 10 people who had chickenpox as children will develop shingles as adults.

The disease occurs

1. More often in older people (over 50 years old) because the immune response is believed to be weaker in older people.

2. Trauma or possibly stress may also contribute to an attack of shingles.

3. Weakened Immune system people like those with cancer, eg. Leukaemia, lymphoma, undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy for cancer, patients with organ transplants and taking drugs to ward off transplant rejection and patients with diseases that lowers the immune system eg. AIDS.

What are the symptoms of shingles?

The first symptom is a burning pain or tingling and extreme sensitivity in one area of the skin.

This may be present for one to three days before a red rash occurs.

A group of blisters then forms on a red base which looks like chicken pox lesions.

The blisters generally last for two to three weeks, during which time they accumulate pus and then crust over and begin to disappear.

The pain may last longer for a month or longer.

A slight discoloration or scarring of the skin is also possible.

How severe is the pain of Shingles?

The pain is usually severe enough for the doctor to prescribe painkillers.

A long-lasting painful complication of shingles called post-herpetic neuralgia occurs in some older patients.

This may last long after the shingles have healed.

For these people the slightest touch or contact with clothing can be unbearable.

Where do shingles appear on the body?

Shingles generally affect only one side of the body.

Most commonly, blisters will appear on the chest or abdomen, including the buttocks and genitalia, and even the face.

If the blisters involve the eye region, permanent eye damage can result. Your doctor will refer you immediately to an eye specialist when such a complication develops.

What are the complications of shingles?

Post-herpetic neuralgia, a condition in which either constant or episodic pain persists for a long time after the skin has healed.

About 50% of affected patients are over the age of 60 years.

The chronic pain is believed to be due the damage to nerve endings.

People who suffer this long-term pain may experience psychological sufferring such as depression, insomnia and weight loss.

Infection of the blisters by bacteria can also cause delayed healing of the skin.

Antibiotic treatment is needed.

If the shingles affects the forehead, sometimes inflammation of ophthalmic nerve of the eye may occur. It may cause severe pain in the eye and cause blindness. Damage to the cornea may also occur.

If the shingles affect the the ear, it may cause pain, tinnitus (buzzing sound in the ear), dizziness, loss of hearing or an increased risk of spread to the brain.

In patients with weakened immune systems, there may be high fever and spread of the disease all over the body.

Is shingles contagious?

Shingles is much less contagious than chicken pox. People with shingles can spread the virus if blisters are broken to someone who has never had chicken pox or who is already ill.

The people who are at risk include babies and those who already are ill such as cancer patients.

Does Shingles cause much scarring?

Shingles can result in scarring if the blisters are infected or if the patients have used toxic home remedies on the blisters.

Some Chinese physicians believe that a snake in the skin causes the disease and the head of the snake must be burned with chemicals in order to stop the snake from growing.

How is shingles treated?

In most cases Shingles clears on its own in a few weeks and seldom recurs.

Treatment consists of painkillers, as well as cool compresses to help dry the blisters. Antibiotics are given if there is bacterial infection

The antiviral drug, acyclovir, may be given especially for patients with eye involvement or who are very ill. It is useful only if it is started early in the disease.

The earlier it is taken after the disease begins the better the effect. The drug might prevent post-herpetic neuralgia.

Post-herpetic neuralgia can be treated with painkillers and high doses of tranquilisers at night. <bio>Kenneth Kee email: kwk481@gmail.com website: http://www.kennethkee.com http://kennethkee.blogspot.com http://dotkee.110mb.com http://mirage800.110mb.com http://success.myweb.io http://mirage.myweb.io Profile: A newbie to world of internet marketing.
